Transcript
- Lucas: Hey Luna, ready to learn some new body parts in Amharic? Luna: Absolutely! I've been practicing my hand and foot words from before. What's next? Lucas: Today we're going to focus on two important joints: the knee and the elbow. In Amharic, knee is ጉልበት. Say it with me: ጉልበት. Luna: ጉልበት. That sounds like 'gulbet'. Lucas: Exactly. And elbow is ክርን. Repeat: ክርን. Luna: ክርን. That's 'kirn'. Lucas: Good. Now let's use them in phrases. 'My knee' is ጉልበቴ. So 'my knee hurts' is ጉልበቴ ይታመማል. Can you try? Luna: ጉልበቴ ይታመማል. That's a mouthful, but I think I got it. Lucas: You did great. Let's slow it down: ጉልበቴ... ይታመማል. And for elbow, 'my elbow' is ክርኔ. 'I hit my elbow' is ክርኔን መታሁ. Say it. Luna: ክርኔን መታሁ. Oof, that's tricky. Lucas: You're doing fine. ክርኔን መታሁ. Let's break it: ክርኔን... መታሁ. Luna: ክርኔን... መታሁ. Got it. Lucas: Now let's practice a little scene. Imagine you're at a park and you fall. You might say ጉልበቴ ይታመማል. Or if you bump into a table, you say ክርኔን መታሁ. Let's try a quick dialog. I'll ask 'What happened?' and you respond. Luna: Okay, hit me. Lucas: ምን ሆነ? What happened? Luna: ጉልበቴ ይታመማል. Lucas: Oh no! And if you hit your elbow? Luna: ክርኔን መታሁ. Lucas: Perfect. You're a natural. Luna: Thanks! You know, learning these phrases makes me realize how handy they are. Hey, speaking of handy, I've been meaning to say — if Fexingo has been helping you make actual progress with this language, there's a small way you can help keep it going. Lucas: Yeah, a few listeners chip in monthly through buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo, and that literally funds making this many episodes. No ads, just listener support. Luna: Exactly. It's a simple way to say thanks if you're enjoying the show. But no pressure — we're glad you're here learning with us. Lucas: Totally. So back to body parts — let's review all the phrases we learned today. First, ጉልበት. Luna: Knee. Lucas: ክርን. Luna: Elbow. Lucas: ጉልበቴ ይታመማል. Luna: My knee hurts. Lucas: ክርኔን መታሁ. Luna: I hit my elbow. Lucas: Excellent. Now you can talk about two more body parts in Amharic. Practice saying them throughout the day. Luna: Will do. Thanks Lucas! Lucas: You're welcome, Luna. And to all our listeners, keep practicing. We'll see you next time on Learn Amharic with Fexingo.
