Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: You know, one of my unrealized ideas for a podcast. Yes,
- 0:06Speaker 1: I remember this was the potty caste where I would
- 0:12Speaker 1: review bathrooms public restrooms because because they're they're they're wide
- 0:18Speaker 1: ranging in all amenities. Yes, and so this headline caught
- 0:23Speaker 1: my eye yesterday. More than just a restroom Utah's Little
- 0:27Speaker 1: America Hotel as a finalist in competition, Guests are frequently
- 0:32Speaker 1: overheard gushing over the quality about the Little America Hotel
- 0:37Speaker 1: lobby restroom. I would like to applaud whoever they wrote
- 0:40Speaker 1: that the people are gushing.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Who's the publication? Yeah, that's qualified to say such.
- 0:48Speaker 1: Well, let me say for for several consecutive years, the
- 0:52Speaker 1: Salt Lake City Hotel has been seeking recognition for its
- 0:55Speaker 1: thoughtfully crafted restroom space by submitting itself as a nominee
- 0:59Speaker 1: for the Sintos America's Best Restroom sintas you know, they like, I.
- 1:07Speaker 3: Don't know, like the uniforms and then give you supplies
- 1:10Speaker 3: for your businesses and things like that.
- 1:13Speaker 1: In twenty twenty three, the restroom made the cut as
- 1:15Speaker 1: a finalist, but was outvoted by a restroom in the
- 1:19Speaker 1: Baltimore Washington International.
- 1:21Speaker 4: Thurgood Marshall Airport boh.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Sintos believed Little America Hotel deserved a second chance at
- 1:26Speaker 1: the title, something they rarely provide. You know what one
- 1:29Speaker 1: and done is what they say is the Sintos Bathroom left.
- 1:32Speaker 2: A stunned with your bathroom. We have to bring you back.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Now for a second time. The Little America Bathroom is
- 1:38Speaker 1: a finalist for the twenty fourth annual America's Best Restroom competition.
- 1:43Speaker 1: The hotel boths a fantastic chance of winning the twenty
- 1:46Speaker 1: twenty five Crown.
- 1:48Speaker 3: Well, who's judging this? Does it? Say?
- 1:51Speaker 5: Well, send to somebody at Sintas, somebody at Sentas. So
- 1:54Speaker 5: this one person is going to go from bathroom to bathroom.
- 1:58Speaker 5: He's going to fly America Hi Farrell to do that.
- 2:02Speaker 1: Here is my proposal, Carrie Jackson, WHI I would be
- 2:07Speaker 1: willing to offer up my services.
- 2:09Speaker 3: You're away from work already too much. My point is
- 2:13Speaker 3: this person is not going to fly on Sintoss's dime
- 2:19Speaker 3: to visit each one of these bathrooms.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Here.
- 2:22Speaker 4: I'll let me go on.
- 2:24Speaker 3: Okay, go ahead, I'm sorry.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Restrooms across the country are selected based on criteria such
- 2:29Speaker 1: as innovation, cleanliness, functionality, and design. Sintos sifts through hundreds
- 2:35Speaker 1: of nominations every year and relies on interviews, photos and
- 2:41Speaker 1: reviews to narrow the finalists down to nine or ten restrooms.
- 2:46Speaker 1: So here here are the nominees for this year. And Carrie,
- 2:50Speaker 1: I was going to ask if I could be sent
- 2:52Speaker 1: to all of these to try.
- 2:53Speaker 3: Them out, see if they're relying on interviews. Of course,
- 2:57Speaker 3: and airport bathroom is going to get more traffic than
- 2:59Speaker 3: the Little America. I mean, anyway, go.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Ahead, Bearhead Lake State Park in Ealy, Minnesota. The City
- 3:08Speaker 1: of Frudia in Frudia, Colorado, their public restrooms, Rudia Modern
- 3:14Speaker 1: Bar in Orlando, Florida, the rooftop at Peer seventeen in
- 3:19Speaker 1: New York, Rosebook Lodge in New Hampshire, Tatsu which is
- 3:24Speaker 1: a club in Dallas, Texas. And Telecote Shores in San Diego, California.
- 3:31Speaker 1: Now I'm headed to San Diego next week, and I
- 3:35Speaker 1: think at the very least I can examine the candidate
- 3:40Speaker 1: for best bathroom in America. Whatever Telecote Shores is.
- 3:45Speaker 2: Well.
- 3:45Speaker 6: I pulled up the Bestdressroom dot com website, as hosted
- 3:49Speaker 6: by Sintas, and you might recall I remember you guys
- 3:51Speaker 6: talking about this in the Hall of Fame. Last year,
- 3:55Speaker 6: Maverick made the top of the list as America's first
- 3:58Speaker 6: stop with their absolutely incredible bathroom. So this is not
- 4:02Speaker 6: the first time Utah has seen bathroom attention.
- 4:04Speaker 4: No, and I am a big fan of the Maverick bathroom.
- 4:07Speaker 4: Yes they are. They are clean and well appointed.
- 4:10Speaker 6: Yeah, but I do agree there needs to be more
- 4:12Speaker 6: of a scientific method to this.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Yes, there needs to be a control you know.
- 4:18Speaker 6: Uh, there needs to be one person, one person who
- 4:21Speaker 6: eats the same meal for every visit before every visit, Yes,
- 4:25Speaker 6: a Southwestern burrito, extra spicy, and then they judge their
- 4:30Speaker 6: experience based off of that.
- 4:32Speaker 4: I don't.
- 4:33Speaker 1: I mean, I'm just saying I think I could be
- 4:35Speaker 1: a good judge. Yeah, I know what I'm looking for.
- 4:39Speaker 1: I like a bathroom where I don't have to ever
- 4:41Speaker 1: touch a door handle.
- 4:43Speaker 4: Hmm. I like an a maze entrance to a bathroom.
- 4:47Speaker 1: I don't even want to I don't want to touch
- 4:49Speaker 1: it with a foot or a hand or anything.
- 4:51Speaker 4: I like a maze entrance.
- 4:54Speaker 1: I like uh, I like I like paper towels, not
- 4:59Speaker 1: not the hand dryers.
- 5:00Speaker 4: Oh yeah, I'm gonna pay you gotta have a paper towel.
- 5:04Speaker 3: Okay, the other requirements.
- 5:08Speaker 1: It can be a mild scented soap or unscented, but
- 5:14Speaker 1: not some crazy scented soaps because I might not like
- 5:17Speaker 1: because especially like if you're gonna go eat after and
- 5:20Speaker 1: your hands smell like, you know, roses or something that's not. Yes,
- 5:25Speaker 1: I think I could do this.
- 5:26Speaker 2: What about a bathroom attendant.
- 5:29Speaker 3: I mean, not a requirement. I'm not a fan.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Yeah, I kind of feel bad that they have to
- 5:36Speaker 1: sit in there. I'm also not a fan because you
- 5:39Speaker 1: like some privacy. You don't want to think this person
- 5:41Speaker 1: just sits there and listens.
- 5:43Speaker 3: To I can't make all the horrible noises because they're
- 5:45Speaker 3: sitting right out there. They can hear me.
- 5:47Speaker 1: I like a full door, top to bottom, up to bottom,
- 5:51Speaker 1: full door.
- 5:53Speaker 4: Yeah, these are all important.
- 5:56Speaker 2: We need a Barberry bathroom star system.
- 6:00Speaker 4: Mm hmm.
- 6:01Speaker 2: You go around the country rating every single bathroom.
- 6:05Speaker 4: I could do.
- 6:06Speaker 3: Well, let's find this one in San Diego. Let's see
- 6:08Speaker 3: where it is and if it's going to be even
- 6:10Speaker 3: close to where you are, And then I want video,
- 6:14Speaker 3: I want photos, I want Gina.
- 6:16Speaker 6: I think we need a compromise list of everywhere you
- 6:20Speaker 6: go to the bathroom.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Yes, and start rating it.
- 6:23Speaker 3: And it should be an only fans, so I just make.
- 6:27Speaker 4: Some money on it.
- 6:28Speaker 1: Sure, let's see. Oh this is a park. Okay, I'm
- 6:33Speaker 1: a little nervous about a park.
- 6:36Speaker 3: Really. I don't think she's qualified for this.
- 6:38Speaker 2: No, no, no, you don't have the guts.
- 6:40Speaker 3: There are some places that you just won't go.
- 6:42Speaker 4: Yeah, let's see. You know this is close to where
- 6:46Speaker 4: I will be staying. I think I owe it to science.
- 6:52Speaker 2: Gina's favorite bathroom locations to.
- 6:55Speaker 4: Give it a go. I don't know a park bathroom.
- 7:00Speaker 3: Yeah. See, I knew right away this is going to
- 7:02Speaker 3: be an issue.
- 7:03Speaker 6: We can we can put an air tag on you
- 7:05Speaker 6: and and broadcast your location in real time to where
- 7:10Speaker 6: you are going to your next bathroom break, so that
- 7:13Speaker 6: everybody knows it's on the up and up.
- 7:17Speaker 2: I think that's the only way we can do this.
- 7:18Speaker 3: We're getting texts for your rating system. Hook on the
- 7:26Speaker 3: door for a purse, yes, or I like when the
- 7:34Speaker 3: door doesn't open toward the toilet so you're forced to touch.
- 7:42Speaker 6: Does traffic influence the rating as in like how many
- 7:45Speaker 6: people use it?
- 7:46Speaker 4: Like?
- 7:46Speaker 2: Is it a high traffic bathroom?
- 7:48Speaker 4: Would that further be a high traffic bathroom.
- 7:52Speaker 3: Right, Well, I think you should start by going to
- 7:57Speaker 3: the Little America one on your way home.
- 8:00Speaker 4: Okay, I can do that.
- 8:02Speaker 3: Yeah, give it a report, and then do the park.
- 8:05Speaker 4: Okay.
- 8:05Speaker 6: I mean I've said it before when I was up
- 8:08Speaker 6: on the u of U campus going to school, Like,
- 8:12Speaker 6: the best part about all the degrees that I changed
- 8:15Speaker 6: in was knowing the different bathrooms in the different.
- 8:18Speaker 4: Departments and had a favorite, didn't you.
- 8:20Speaker 6: Yes, the Math building had some of the best bathrooms,
- 8:24Speaker 6: and I would purposefully go out of my way to
- 8:27Speaker 6: use the bathrooms on the third floor of the Math
- 8:30Speaker 6: building or was it the second floor.
- 8:32Speaker 2: It's the top floor of the Math building.
- 8:34Speaker 1: Somebody says, Snowbasin has the best bathrooms, has gray bathrooms,
- 8:40Speaker 1: and it's the same it's a little it's the same owners,
- 8:43Speaker 1: so they know they know their bathrooms. Somebody says, Arci
- 8:47Speaker 1: Willie and Layton is great bathroom.
- 8:52Speaker 3: Uh, changing table for a baby a must, it says here. Yeah,
- 8:58Speaker 3: handicap accessible, low sync bars, et cetera, eighty eight compliant toilets,
- 9:04Speaker 3: no shiny reflective floors.
- 9:07Speaker 4: I never thought about that.
- 9:09Speaker 6: Ambiyance with music, you know, like lobby music, kind of
- 9:13Speaker 6: follows its way into the bathroom.
- 9:14Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:15Speaker 6: I like that.
- 9:15Speaker 2: That's kind of nice. It adds some white noise element
- 9:17Speaker 2: to everything going on. But an echo factor or lack.
- 9:22Speaker 3: Of should I say I don't like an echo factor?
- 9:24Speaker 2: No?
- 9:25Speaker 3: Oh, I just got a text from Sue. It says
- 9:28Speaker 3: we were really impressed Don and Drew Wred. Some of
- 9:32Speaker 3: the people that we were traveling with were really impressed
- 9:34Speaker 3: that the majority of men's stalls in Asia had a
- 9:37Speaker 3: seat for babies and toddlers. See, they have kids, so
- 9:40Speaker 3: they would notice that. I didn't notice. Yeah, yeah, I
- 9:43Speaker 3: wasn't paying attention to that.
- 9:46Speaker 1: That's much appreciated. M Somebody says bathrooms that saw like
- 9:50Speaker 1: airport are great. They're great.
- 9:51Speaker 2: They're really good.
- 9:52Speaker 1: You got the maize entry, which I like. Yes, and
- 9:55Speaker 1: hot hot water in the sink.
- 9:58Speaker 3: Yes.
- 9:58Speaker 1: Not all bathrooms have hot water to wash your hands with.
- 10:03Speaker 4: Oftentimes it is just cold. I want hot water to
- 10:06Speaker 4: wash me.
- 10:07Speaker 3: Stalls in Japan and Korea had babbling brooks sounds.
- 10:10Speaker 4: Oh that's help.
- 10:12Speaker 3: That gives you a little inspira motivation.
- 10:15Speaker 1: Plus it masks the sound. That's good for two reasons.
- 10:21Speaker 3: Mom of musician, Here we need rules on venue bathrooms. Uh,
- 10:27Speaker 3: you mean just well, because like.
- 10:31Speaker 4: Music venues can be some of the grossest bathrooms.
- 10:34Speaker 2: Yeah, which I won't name Gina.
- 10:39Speaker 1: When I was young, my family would call me the
- 10:41Speaker 1: potty Princess. I would review all the restrooms while we
- 10:44Speaker 1: were out unsolicited.
- 10:47Speaker 4: Free tampons and pads.
- 10:49Speaker 3: Yes, yes, socialism, these are all good.
- 10:55Speaker 1: As a man the coals the Cole's bathroom is good,
- 10:59Speaker 1: all right.
- 11:00Speaker 6: Do you like a bathroom with a sense of community
- 11:02Speaker 6: and culture where the inside has been written.
- 11:04Speaker 1: On by.
- 11:07Speaker 4: With like somebody's phone number, like that.
- 11:09Speaker 2: Phone number, maybe artwork, graffiti?
- 11:13Speaker 3: Yeah, you're talking about graff.
- 11:15Speaker 4: I mean if it's if the bathroom's clean.
- 11:18Speaker 3: Guys already made you a logo there it is? What
- 11:23Speaker 3: is it Barbari's bathroom blog? Yeah?
- 11:26Speaker 1: Wow, Well I I will take I will take it
- 11:31Speaker 1: upon myself to seek out this bathroom.
- 11:34Speaker 3: Like I said, hit the Little America first, and hit
- 11:36Speaker 3: the one in San Diego.
- 11:38Speaker 6: Let's get a list going. I do sales now, I
- 11:40Speaker 6: can I can sponsor this. We can get you a Yeah,
- 11:45Speaker 6: bathroom sponsor could be.
- 11:47Speaker 4: Like Sherman or something.
- 11:50Speaker 6: Now reach out to me and Davis a Bwaymedia dot com.
- 11:53Speaker 6: If you like to sponsor Gene's bathroom visits.
