- 0:22Speaker 2: Hey, welcome back in.
- 0:23Speaker 2: It's another instant reaction from the North Florida Sports Network of the FSU's home win over the Hokies.
- 0:32Speaker 2: I got Jimmy Reno with me 39 to 17.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Trey Vincent 200 yards of the ground, almost on two carats.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Was that 147 on two carats?
- 0:57Speaker 1: That's right.
- 0:59Speaker 2: 85 on the last one, yep and the Seminoles moved to 5 and 0, 3 and 0 in the ACC.
- 1:07Speaker 1: All right, all right, sitting nice.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Yep, it was one.
- 1:12Speaker 2: There was the end of the first half, in the beginning of the second half, obviously with the return for touchdown.
- 1:18Speaker 2: That was the time of the game where you're not happy with it.
- 1:22Speaker 2: All other than that dominated the game Right.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, defensively.
- 1:29Speaker 2: Well, not according according if you watch the game on television.
- 1:33Speaker 2: Not according to Lewis Reddick, who.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Wow, yeah, I thought he went to Pitt, not Virginia Tech.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Yeah, he was a little bit.
- 1:39Speaker 1: Maybe he's just like a big guy.
- 1:40Speaker 1: He thought to play.
- 1:41Speaker 2: I mean some of those plays, I mean the quarterbacks running for his life and he's over there's a guy wide open 50 yards across the field.
- 1:48Speaker 1: Right, and if it was Tech Mobile, you'd be able to hit him.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:51Speaker 1: But it's not.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:54Speaker 2: It seemed like, but, but overall.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Yeah, again, you know it's, it's 17 points, but the defense effectively shut the door.
- 2:05Speaker 1: Save for one drive.
- 2:07Speaker 2: Right.
- 2:09Speaker 1: This game for me was much more about just the still.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Jacqueline Hyde on offense Right.
- 2:18Speaker 1: First half.
- 2:18Speaker 2: I think you're right the first quarter looked like the second, like the third quarter in the LSU game.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, it was 22 to 0.
- 2:25Speaker 1: And it was.
- 2:25Speaker 1: It was clear that you were going to be able to dominate up front, just by the size advantage you had.
- 2:33Speaker 2: Johnny Wilson had two touchdowns in the first quarter.
- 2:36Speaker 2: He's left the game.
- 2:37Speaker 2: The broadcast team said it was a knee, but Sure, looked like a concussion.
- 2:42Speaker 2: Yeah, he was hard on the field.
- 2:43Speaker 2: It looked like he was a little dazed and he wasn't limping with his knee.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, it was big loss.
- 2:52Speaker 2: Yeah, but.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Travis up and down in the in the passing game man.
- 2:58Speaker 2: Yeah, he's missing.
- 2:59Speaker 2: He's not there on the deep ball Like he was last season.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Yeah, those, those two to to Jekai Douglas were late and under thrown.
- 3:06Speaker 1: Yeah, the second one was a touchdown.
- 3:10Speaker 1: You just throw it on time Like he's.
- 3:12Speaker 1: He had him beat by three steps so that you know, but he looked good on.
- 3:17Speaker 1: I mean again, the throw to Destin Hill is perfect.
- 3:21Speaker 2: Right.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Shoulder 30 yards downfield, put it right where it had to be.
- 3:24Speaker 1: It's just kind of up and down.
- 3:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:28Speaker 1: It was good to see the trade.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Benson is still really really fast.
- 3:31Speaker 1: Yes, like, get moving at that speed.
- 3:34Speaker 1: He's got a lot of wiggle that people don't realize.
- 3:36Speaker 1: That move he put on that defender on that, that little check down, that was big time.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, that was good man.
- 3:44Speaker 2: I mean, you know you knew they were going to try to run the ball and they did, and so that's good to see them, you know, work on something and be able to get the job done.
- 3:53Speaker 2: In that regard, I mean you're when you say Jordan Travis, he's yeah, you're you're saying he missed on some, on some plays that could have been big scores.
- 4:02Speaker 1: Yeah, a couple throws downfield.
- 4:04Speaker 1: One of them was probably a touchdown, the other one would have been a day, the other one should have been past interference.
- 4:12Speaker 1: Yeah, I get the degree.
- 4:14Speaker 1: I mean he was all over him.
- 4:16Speaker 1: But whatever it, you know it's not one of those old-school dominant wins that you know they were able to run the ball a little bit.
- 4:24Speaker 2: Yeah, we're all.
- 4:24Speaker 2: The Drones had 80 yards on the ground and then Thomas had 58.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Yeah, and that little guy tootin.
- 4:32Speaker 1: They just kind of grinded it out there at the end and the kick returned.
- 4:36Speaker 2: Yeah toon, yeah toon was tough, but he only had 29 on the ground.
- 4:39Speaker 2: He had the kick return.
- 4:40Speaker 1: We knocked him out, man, but he all, he had this, he had this other score too.
- 4:44Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, he had to run there at the end.
- 4:47Speaker 2: Speaking of knocking him out.
- 4:48Speaker 2: It was Conrad Hussie who showed up in the secondary freshman.
- 4:51Speaker 2: We've been talking about him.
- 4:53Speaker 2: Yeah this was coming out party for him.
- 4:55Speaker 1: He looks good man.
- 4:56Speaker 2: He does physical fast.
- 4:59Speaker 1: That hit.
- 4:59Speaker 2: He put on him was really a huge play in the game.
- 5:03Speaker 2: Yeah, I haven't there was a momentum shifter, because that was the guy that had scored.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Yeah you know and you nobody put a hit on him, nobody hit him yet, yeah, it was good to see man, it was good to see Hussie out there.
- 5:17Speaker 1: I mean, the defense didn't play terribly.
- 5:19Speaker 2: The Keem Dent was back out there.
- 5:21Speaker 1: Yeah, the linebackers were we're.
- 5:25Speaker 1: You know hit and miss.
- 5:26Speaker 1: I don't think Bethune played much of the game, if if at all.
- 5:29Speaker 2: So it was.
- 5:30Speaker 2: Jordan.
- 5:30Speaker 2: Travis had the two touchdowns early to Johnny Wilson, but once Wilson was out, yeah, you saw the there seemed to be, the rhythm was lost.
- 5:40Speaker 2: Yeah, passing game kind of yeah, I kind of just looked a little sluggish choppy yeah and he looked the timing looked a little bit off and then you know the like he said he missed two.
- 5:52Speaker 2: Yeah to Douglas.
- 5:55Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I think Brent Pry came in, like they came in with a really good game plan.
- 5:59Speaker 1: Right tech was was grind clock.
- 6:01Speaker 1: Yeah keep the ball out of the hand.
- 6:03Speaker 1: I mean, you saw what we had the ball three minutes in the second quarter.
- 6:07Speaker 2: I was it.
- 6:09Speaker 1: So you know you limit the chances you're not gonna get, you know you're not gonna put a bunch of points on the board.
- 6:15Speaker 1: But overall, man, I give it maybe a solid B.
- 6:20Speaker 1: You know could have been cleaner, but you never really you know.
- 6:26Speaker 1: When they got that kick return for the touchdown, people were like the second half that response as soon as you got the ball, though.
- 6:32Speaker 2: Yeah, the special teams obviously was terrible, but like on that play, but yeah, to be able to hold them without scoring on offense, defensively.
- 6:41Speaker 2: After they got some momentum at the end of the first half, you answered the bell there, so you just really gave up One drive.
- 6:50Speaker 2: They were able to get some first downs and that's what teams are gonna try to do.
- 6:52Speaker 2: They're going to try to keep the offense off the field because yeah, it's gonna be the same, all the more pre because they're gonna go for those plays.
- 7:01Speaker 2: So, jordan Travis, we play a better team that's gonna hit those plays on offense.
- 7:06Speaker 2: He's gonna need to hit those plays to keep the score up.
- 7:09Speaker 1: Yeah, I definitely left some points out there.
- 7:11Speaker 1: But you know, the thing is is, even with these mobile quarterbacks, they seem to be able to somewhat Figure them out in the second half.
- 7:22Speaker 1: Not that drones is anything spectacular, you know, I put them on the same level as that Castleanos kid with BC.
- 7:30Speaker 1: But You're right, man, he's gonna have to hit on those plays.
- 7:36Speaker 1: You know, when you got a touchdown Gifted to you like that, you got a.
- 7:40Speaker 1: You got to be able to get it Right.
- 7:43Speaker 1: Otherwise we just need to take a little step back of expectations.
- 7:48Speaker 2: Well, yeah, you could look at it both ways.
- 7:52Speaker 2: I mean, I think at this when this team is playing at at its peak, it can play with anybody in the country.
- 7:59Speaker 2: Yes, you see holes in the team, but it is.
- 8:02Speaker 2: It's a 60 minute game.
- 8:04Speaker 1: Yeah, and we're also paying.
- 8:06Speaker 1: Yeah, we're looking at this you're going to get.
- 8:09Speaker 2: Everybody's best shot each week, and this is not.
- 8:13Speaker 2: This was not a two and three Virginia Tech team.
- 8:15Speaker 2: This was more of the team that you saw last week play.
- 8:18Speaker 2: I know it's a bad pit team, but they were yeah, yeah, the drones has been.
- 8:23Speaker 1: This is what start number three for him.
- 8:25Speaker 2: Right.
- 8:26Speaker 1: I mean, you got a kind of coach throw the first two games out right.
- 8:28Speaker 1: Grant Wells was terrible, you know.
- 8:30Speaker 1: Yeah they came in him.
- 8:32Speaker 1: You know, if he was starting this game it would have been a lot different.
- 8:36Speaker 2: They're putting up 17 points, but I yeah I could have had some better, more efficient passing in the in the passing game.
- 8:45Speaker 2: That was probably the one critique on the offense could have looked a little cleaner.
- 8:50Speaker 1: It could have looked a little cleaner in the passing game, but you still you were wanting to run the ball going into this game, yeah you ran it easily.
- 8:58Speaker 1: You know it did kind of power run.
- 9:01Speaker 1: You got first downs when you needed.
- 9:02Speaker 1: I mean, nothing was was overly difficult for the team outside of the kick coverage.
- 9:11Speaker 2: Yeah, that didn't look too.
- 9:13Speaker 1: I just you know, I don't think that we, we should expect these, these real sexy dominant games going forward.
- 9:21Speaker 1: Like you know, 59 to 3 type of deals.
- 9:24Speaker 2: Oh, no, yeah, it's just no it's not gonna happen no, but it's okay.
- 9:29Speaker 2: Yeah, and that doesn't mean you know, you, just you just have to get by, can't?
- 9:35Speaker 2: You want to look better?
- 9:36Speaker 2: You don't want to turn the ball over, you want it.
- 9:38Speaker 1: I'm perfectly fine with being picky about three touchdown wins man, it's You'd to go back and scout Miami.
- 9:46Speaker 2: Yeah there were some other games today.
- 9:49Speaker 2: The Red Roover shootout was a hell of a game lived up to it.
- 9:53Speaker 2: It really did.
- 9:54Speaker 2: I called that one Did, but Dylan Gabriel.
- 9:58Speaker 2: He was able to stay healthy and he was.
- 10:00Speaker 2: He didn't turn the ball over and he came up clutch After Texas had taken a lead in the end and went right down the field With the late score dark horse for a highman.
- 10:12Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, that nobody was talking about and that's because they hadn't really played anybody.
- 10:16Speaker 2: But you know, that's why I picked them.
- 10:19Speaker 2: They looked, they looked a lot better and I, you know, I saw them last season in the bowl game and you could kind of see again.
- 10:26Speaker 1: It's.
- 10:27Speaker 2: Dylan Gabriel was a real D and he stays healthy and defense improves right right, that team's gonna have something to say.
- 10:32Speaker 1: I think three of their, three of their, what four losses or whatever what it was.
- 10:35Speaker 1: He wasn't even around exactly.
- 10:37Speaker 2: So yeah that he's yet dark horse.
- 10:40Speaker 2: I was, like you said, nobody's talking about.
- 10:42Speaker 2: If he continues to, he's going.
- 10:44Speaker 2: They're only gonna get better.
- 10:45Speaker 2: That's the toughest team they have.
- 10:47Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, you look for him, maybe down the line like maybe Kansas State.
- 10:51Speaker 1: They don't.
- 10:52Speaker 1: They don't look like they're really gonna match up well with Oklahoma.
- 10:55Speaker 1: They move fast, man, oklahoma's yeah pace, yeah, they look.
- 10:59Speaker 1: They looked really good.
- 11:01Speaker 2: Yep, big, big win for the Sooners, but I don't think Texas is out of it.
- 11:07Speaker 2: No you know they they still got.
- 11:09Speaker 1: That was especially as long as Alabama keeps winning, Like you know.
- 11:13Speaker 2: Alabama, yep and me to that Alabama was able to beat Jimbo.
- 11:17Speaker 1: Yeah, wow, man, that's.
- 11:20Speaker 2: Jimbo had lead, it was just they were shut down in the second half three points.
- 11:23Speaker 2: Yeah, at the end I settled for field goal, but that was it late in the fourth quarter in the fourth quarter.
- 11:29Speaker 1: That's it.
- 11:29Speaker 2: That's all that difference in the game, Gosh man.
- 11:33Speaker 2: So what is that quarterback?
- 11:36Speaker 2: Is that Bobby?
- 11:37Speaker 1: You know, is that Bobby Petrino calling that office or is that Jimbo coming out there?
- 11:40Speaker 1: Somebody's gonna have to answer for three points.
- 11:44Speaker 2: Yeah, they did not make the adjustments.
- 11:46Speaker 1: No, that's they had to have.
- 11:49Speaker 2: I think you need to win that if you're Jimbo man.
- 11:51Speaker 2: Yeah, that was.
- 11:53Speaker 2: That was to take control of the West.
- 11:56Speaker 1: Yeah, it's wide open for for Alabama right now.
- 11:58Speaker 1: Yep, Alabama takes full control of the West of everything they keep winning, They'll have a path right to the playoffs.
- 12:05Speaker 2: Yep they went out, though They'll be in.
- 12:07Speaker 2: Yeah, of course what.
- 12:08Speaker 2: What would happen, though, if Texas wins out and Alabama wins out?
- 12:14Speaker 1: And that's their vine for the last spot.
- 12:16Speaker 1: Yeah, then that could be some that we're getting a little bit ahead of it.
- 12:22Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I don't.
- 12:25Speaker 1: I mean, you know that's a good question, though that's a real good question.
- 12:30Speaker 1: Anything else happen today?
- 12:34Speaker 2: see well, so Ohio State struggled for yeah, you saw that Maryland came out there.
- 12:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 12:41Speaker 2: Was up in the second half.
- 12:43Speaker 1: You know, they had the lead man.
- 12:44Speaker 1: It looked like they're gonna hang with them and they just Ran out of gas.
- 12:48Speaker 2: Yeah, they didn't cover.
- 12:49Speaker 1: No, they didn't cover Thought.
- 12:51Speaker 1: They could thought they could do it, but nope, what else, oh LSU man, that I'm telling you, I'm telling you.
- 13:01Speaker 2: If LSU, if that defense holds, missouri under 40 points 40 and they damn they didn't do it.
- 13:06Speaker 1: Man 39.
- 13:07Speaker 1: Hey, that's under 40.
- 13:10Speaker 2: Yep cuz Jaden Daniels is kid deserves a better defense.
- 13:14Speaker 2: Well, I mean, he wouldn't be able to put up the numbers he has if he had a better defense.
- 13:19Speaker 1: Yeah, that's true Still.
- 13:22Speaker 2: Yeah, that defense is really bad, but he's, he keeps, just he's really fast.
- 13:29Speaker 1: And he can.
- 13:29Speaker 1: He can swing on the run, that's yeah, that's the difference.
- 13:32Speaker 1: Yeah, but hey, I mean it looks impressive.
- 13:36Speaker 1: Florida State holding them to what 17 points until?
- 13:39Speaker 2: garbage, I mean right.
- 13:42Speaker 1: Right now I put the defense ahead of the office.
- 13:45Speaker 1: Florida State man.
- 13:46Speaker 2: It just seems, whoa I mean that's just in terms of complete games.
- 13:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:53Speaker 1: Every week.
- 13:56Speaker 2: That's it.
- 13:56Speaker 2: Well, that's a good thing.
- 13:57Speaker 2: If you were looking at that for the like the end of the outcome of the season, because you're going into the season you thought maybe the defense would have been the weak point.
- 14:06Speaker 2: The weak point, but it's good to see Dent back in action.
- 14:10Speaker 2: It's good to see guys like Hussey come in and make a really big play in the impact where you know he's only going to play more moving forward.
- 14:19Speaker 1: Yeah, I do like that man that's.
- 14:20Speaker 1: That's a good sign.
- 14:22Speaker 2: Just need to get the ball get a little more consistency with the with the passing attack.
- 14:26Speaker 2: Hopefully Johnny Wilson is healthy and if he's not giving him some time to heal up, yeah, I mean you know you got these next two home games.
- 14:36Speaker 1: Man, it'd be nice to have him back for Duke.
- 14:38Speaker 1: We'll see what.
- 14:38Speaker 1: We'll see what's up.
- 14:40Speaker 2: We had to go.
- 14:41Speaker 2: Oh, we gotta get on out of here, man.
- 14:46Speaker 2: Yeah, I hope he gets back healthy.
- 14:49Speaker 2: I mean, Jordan Travis looks different when he's not in there.
- 14:55Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean it's huge target.
- 14:58Speaker 1: He is dude clutch catches.
- 15:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:02Speaker 1: I know that Keon's had more of the touchdowns, but uh to Johnny Wilson's been just as key.
- 15:09Speaker 2: Yeah, that's his guy.
- 15:10Speaker 2: Hope he's all right.
- 15:13Speaker 2: Yeah, some games going on tonight.
- 15:16Speaker 2: Georgia Gonna be taking on stoopes in Kentucky.
- 15:21Speaker 2: Watch that one.
- 15:22Speaker 1: Oh yeah, it might be a little pissed off.
- 15:27Speaker 1: People have been kind of taking shots at him in the media.
- 15:30Speaker 1: Kentucky's the perfect team to like beat the crap out of.
- 15:34Speaker 2: Yeah, they're about to get worked, yeah.
- 15:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:37Speaker 2: I could see that one coming.
- 15:38Speaker 2: We'll talk about that one.
- 15:41Speaker 2: Shout out to Aunt Fran and resting piece to Aunt Mary 102.
- 15:50Speaker 2: Wow, great lady, north Carolina one.
- 16:02Speaker 1: Killed this area.
- 16:04Speaker 1: I think you make the argument.
- 16:05Speaker 2: They're probably most impressive and looking on tape, but I don't know if they watch my any play tonight, what a state gets by with the window.
- 16:13Speaker 2: That's what you need to do, so clean it up a little bit.
- 16:16Speaker 2: We have two weeks at home to get it done.
- 16:19Speaker 2: You get on the road.
- 16:21Speaker 2: I mean Clemson's struggling with Wake Forest.
- 16:24Speaker 1: Yeah, they ended up pulling out 1712.
- 16:27Speaker 1: Yeah, wow, that's right, that's right.
- 16:33Speaker 2: You got to keep winning the games.
- 16:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean this is.
- 16:37Speaker 2: Virginia Tech is not.
- 16:38Speaker 1: Virginia Tech is not a great team, but they're not the team that you know.
- 16:42Speaker 1: Started the game.
- 16:43Speaker 1: You're going to get everybody's best effort.
- 16:45Speaker 2: Well, we got a lot of games to watch tonight and we're going to do so.
- 16:48Speaker 2: Postseason baseball, oh my God.
- 16:52Speaker 2: We got to watch the Phillies and the Braves.
- 16:54Speaker 2: This bull crap man.
- 16:55Speaker 2: I don't know why.
- 16:56Speaker 2: I should be playing the D-becks, but they're losing already.
- 16:59Speaker 2: One and nothing.
- 17:00Speaker 2: We'll go check that out.
- 17:01Speaker 2: We'll talk about it.
- 17:02Speaker 2: Nfl as well A lot to get to.
- 17:06Speaker 2: We'll react to it all, but thank you for listening.
- 17:08Speaker 2: I'm Gene and we'll talk to you next time right here on the North Florida sports network.
