- Nolan: Welcome back to the podcast, ladies and gentlemen, you're here with the boys of Poi & Soy on our post-credits segment. Post-credits is a segment where we go through movies, TV, entertainment, and all the good stuff in between. I am your co-host Nolan Chang, and with me as always is my longtime friend and co-host, Jalen Holston. Say what's up to the crowd. Jesus: Crowd what's poppin what's cracking another Friday? There's movie stuff. We're here in the booth. You know what's about to go down Nolan: And if anyone's wondering we always look to jail and do our locker room pregame talks, you know how it goes We got a good little grip of trailers that we're gonna review today as well as some good little news nuggets that we're gonna cover with you But before we get to all that we gotta give a big shout out to our partners at W energy our favorite energy supplement coming in powdered form Beautiful little tubs delicious flavors whether you gaming doing some errands run Jesus: you Nolan: running around doing the office work, going to the gym, know, that we've got your back, it'll get you through the day. So go to w.gg or the app W energy and use the promo code pulling soy P O I n s o y for 10 % off your order, you're not supporting them as a business, you're supporting us as content creators, and we appreciate you all. long-winded but we gotta do what we gotta do. How's it going, Jalen? How's life treating you? Jesus: We got... we got dog walked yesterday, so that was lit. In four sets we were playing great for a set and a half and then one serve run and we just shit ourselves. But we have a tournament this weekend to make up and see if we can, you know, improve and recover and, you know. Nolan: Cool. Jesus: fix some mistakes so it's a good opportunity for the boys and we'll see if we can get it crackin' get it poppin' all that good stuff. Nolan: Right on, right on. Would you say that they were playing as if they were blind? Jesus: Very blind. Yeah. It's almost like they were also deaf, which was crazy. yeah, picture Helen Keller. Like that's what they turned into after that service run. Yeah. Nolan: Yeah. ⁓ Gotcha. Gotcha. Well, you know, speaking of blind, not so much deaf. Our first news nugget of the day. We got the John wick spinoff for Kane the blind assassin. See what I did there little layup Jesus: Bang. Let's see what you did there, little... you son of a gun. Nolan: Well, as you all know, because we've talked about it before, and we know that you are our avid listeners who follow along to every word that we speak on this podcast. ⁓ Donnie Yen, one of the great martial artists of Hollywood, was in the most recent John Wick film, ⁓ playing the character Kane, who was a blind assassin. ⁓ And they did set up some little Easter eggs or I guess you could say Easter eggs that were kind of hinting at his own spinoff film. Officially, the film has been greenlit and they are expected to start production within the next month or so. ⁓ Jalen, biggest question for you regarding this. Obviously, I don't think there's any stretch of imagination saying that you don't want to see Donnie Yen on screen doing his thing. Biggest question is. Has the steam train that is John Wick kind of already left the tracks by the time that this film is now starting production and going to be moving to theaters? Jesus: Hmm. Ooh, uh, yeah, I think maybe because like John Wick 4 came out what like two, three years ago, two and gonna say John Wick 4. 2023. So we are three years removed from the last John Wick. Now we're doing Nolan: Two and a half years ago? Let me check that for you. Yeah we are three years. And they said that the genre five was happening I don't know where that's going. Obviously we we had ballerina. ⁓ Jesus: Right. We did have Ballerino, so maybe, maybe not. Maybe not. Because he was in that movie. So I wouldn't say they're as hot as a couple years ago. Let's say that. Let's go with that. Okay. But there's definitely been a little bit of a slowing of the like, yeah, John Wick. You know what mean? In that regard. I think if there's a world with no Ballerino, I would say, yeah, this is way too late. Nolan: Well, I guess here's my biggest issue. Jesus: You know what saying? But we've had like little crumbs of things, because didn't ⁓ the hotel show also came out between all that as well? Which was pretty good. I thought it was okay. I thought was pretty good. I had a good time. Nolan: Yeah. Yeah, yeah, it was was half and half received, you know, yeah. I mean, like, it was half and half like divisive, like some really liked it, some thought it was kind of not necessary kind of thing. The only issue I was going to share with you is that ballerina only made 137 million worldwide. Jesus: Right. Nolan: And now we're going into this film where, you know, Donnie Yen deserves the best because we love Donnie Yen. We love it, man. Come on. ⁓ I'm worried, you know, I understand why they're trying to capitalize on the John Wick verse. ⁓ But I don't know what they could really do to make us. Jesus: We love Donnie Yen. Nolan: fill the seats of a theater for this film because if you really think traditionally how many people really went to theaters to see it man none you know why because it was a it was more shared at home kind of thing Donnie Yen is kind of that actor who doesn't bring people into the box office or bring to the the seats to build the box office but he is someone that everyone reveres and was very well respected I don't know if this is gonna do it like in my head You're gonna have to pull another John Wick or another ballerina where you're bringing in John Wick and Keanu Reeves in the trailer to entice people to be like, yeah, you know what? It's a John Wick film. I'm gonna go see it on its on its surface. I don't know if that's gonna be it for this film. Do you agree? Yeah. Jesus: Ahem. True, true. I think there's that world. ⁓ I think there's also a world where there is the kind of like we, know, the problem with ballerinas, it fell into the trope of the female-led action movie where they just do the stuff the guys have already done, so there's nothing impressive about it. You know what I mean? ⁓ Nolan: Hmm. Jesus: They definitely tried to like make it somewhat unique to like her character and stuff. They tried to put a little bit of a wrinkle in the movie and Anna de Armas did fine. know, the performances were all good. ⁓ Nolan: She did real action star stuff, that one. I'll give her a lot of credit for that. Jesus: Yeah, but like at the end of the day, it's just one of those things where like we can't just have the female do what the male does in the action movie. We've got to make it somewhat cooler or do something more creative in that realm. It's like that other movie that had like all the girls in it and they were all doing like the action spy stuff, the red notice thing or something like that. I forget what it was called. It was like three female lead actresses just doing all the spy movies tropes that we've already seen done before. ⁓ Nolan: Mm-hmm. why am I blanking on this? Jesus: You know you're talking about? I don't remember the name of it, was but that was like the gist of it, right? So like you have that kind of stuff and it was the same like the same thing with Black Widow. They tried to make a Jason Bourne movie, but like, dude, we've already seen Jason Bourne like make it more about the MCU stuff, incorporate some more weird. I think that movie also suffered from being locked into a PG-13 rating. I think that's a movie that has to go and push the envelope a little bit further of like how much trauma women can really handle and still be Nolan: I think so. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Jesus: really strong people afterwards. Like that's what that movie should have been for a lot of people, in my opinion. ⁓ But that's where it is. But now if we go with Donnie Yen, I think it will perform better just on the merits that it's something a little bit more aligned and makes a little bit more sense. Like Donnie Yen does action really well, as we all know. ⁓ Is he a Jackie Chan or like a Jet Leaf, like 90s wise, like in a box office draw, like you mentioned? No. But it is a little bit more of something that I think people could get behind and rally up more than Ana D'Armas trying to kind of like break a little bit more at Nolan: Mm-hmm. ⁓ yeah Jesus: of her career of expanding and trying things and all those kinds of things. So I think it has a chance of doing a little bit better than Ballerina, but like you said, I don't think we're ever hitting John Wick numbers, because it was just such a unique thing that came out and people love Keanu and he's definitely somebody that would just entice a lot of people to go see another John Wick film. All the ones that he's in made decent money. So those are the ones that really, he is the universe kind of thing is one of those. things so ⁓ but he's also getting older so maybe there's a world where he wanted to do this as like on the back end as a producer to where like hey I'll do some cameos here there but like let's like elevate some you know some other people in the universe that you know kind of took off from my movies and all that kind of stuff much like you know rdj and iron man kind of thing so ⁓ Nolan: No, of course. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Jesus: That's just kind of like what I see for Donnie Yen. So I think I have a little bit more faith in you. I think it'll do better in some regards, but I don't think it'll be a total back-end bomb or anything. Nolan: Fair enough, fair enough. Now Hollywood, I know you're listening, hear me out. You have the collab of the century. You bring in Charlie Cox's blind daredevil. You bring in Donnie Yen's blind assassin Kane. And you have him duke it out to see who can hear better. Jesus: Mm-hmm Mm, Jesus. For some reason, they're in Hell's Kitchen for this movie. And Donnie Yen's gone in there doing all the, like, criminal underworld stuff, and bow, there comes Daredevil. What's going on? That be lit? That be so lit. Nolan: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm Exactly, just kidding. But I mean, hey, you know, yeah Don't worry AI will make it at some point ⁓ nonetheless Let us know what you guys think in the comments down below regarding the spin-off Kane, I'm assuming that's gonna be the title ⁓ Starting up or gearing up for production within the next month Next news nugget Kirsten Dunst joins the housemaid now, you know Jesus: Probably. Hmm Nolan: I watched the housemaid, per Nicole's request. Jesus: Pernacles request. Nolan: It actually threw me for a loop. had some twists I was not expecting. ⁓ It was definitely kind of ⁓ an interesting thriller. Did I think it was a fantastic movie or a great acting performance from all those included? Some of them. I'll give them some of them. But they are leaving it, they did leave it open for a sequel. And it appears that Kirsten Dunst is going to be joining Sydney Sweeney in the sequel for The Housemaid. Now, obviously we haven't seen Kirsten Dunst in a lot of ⁓ work in the most recent years. It's been a lot of her husband, Jesse Plemons, who's been doing a lot of the heavy lifting. Obviously, because Kirsten Dunst, her childhood was kind of a huge hurricane of success. ⁓ So it's not like she needed to go out there and continue to work. that being said, Jesus: Yes. Nolan: It's great to hear that she's coming back to the screen. ⁓ But Jalen, what are your thoughts on her joining Sidney Sweeney in this sequel? Do you think that she is going to be kind of playing that similar Amanda Seyfried role in this sequel? Jesus: Mm-hmm. I think so. She'll probably fit that same kind of archetype in there of some degree. ⁓ Definitely something that would fit into her wheelhouse. Bit interesting to see her back kinda in, you know, working in Hollywood again. So good for her. But yeah, I think she could fill exactly what Amanda Seyfried did well in Housemaid. I didn't see Housemaid yet, ⁓ but given from what I saw in the trailers for Housemaid, think Kirsten Dunst can probably do fine. We know she can scream a lot because of Spider-Man, so surely that'll work out, I assume. Nolan: The one thing I'll give a shout out to is once again, Oldboy, what's his name? Why am I drawing a blank? Yellowstone, it's a prequel series. He's also like in talk or he's in rumors to be the next Batman. Oh my God, why am I forgetting his name? I gotta look this up or else I'm hurt myself. Jesus: Feel that. Nolan: What am I Brandon's Glen are Brandon's Glen are ⁓ definitely a different side of acting for him. ⁓ There was a lot that you know when the twist happens he starts showing a much more ⁓ expansive way of acting so I'll give a big shout out to him on that. ⁓ So I do think that there is ⁓ the possibility that this film can be pretty successful. Jesus: Yellowstone. ⁓ Nolan: in what it does because it's not a high budget. It's not crazy. ⁓ I think that typically if you really look at the first one, this one and we just talked about Anna Darmis's film making what 100 some some mod under 200. This film made about 400 million worldwide ⁓ on a 35 million dollar budget. So if you were wondering why they're coming out with a sequel, that's why they're coming out with a sequel. ⁓ Jesus: Right. Nolan: it just makes the most sense so I am very excited to see Kirsten Dunst back in it. ⁓ Probably going to be playing a role that she's not normally known for maybe a little bit more demented who knows we'll see ⁓ but you know if you ever got the time I would say go ahead and watch Watch the Housemaid it's it's not as like weird as you would think it is it's just more of a almost like a a suburban plot I don't know yeah Yeah, yeah, words, things. But anyways, let us know down in the comments below what you think about Kirsten Dunst returning to Hollywood for a role in The Housemaid 2? Once again, don't know what the sequel title will be? The Apartment Maid? ⁓ Next news nugget. 13 going on 30 is getting a reboot. ⁓ Jesus: to the other housemaid? the apartment, mate? Great movie. Doesn't need a reboot though. Nolan: You know, it doesn't. It doesn't. It doesn't. Yeah, great movie. ⁓ This one will be starring Logan Lerman and Emily Bader. Obviously, Logan Lerman is probably the more known name of the two main actors coming into this reboot. But we have to talk about it. Jesus: Great movie though. Nolan: Because you kind of just hinted at it. This is a film of the early 2000s. Very fun, very exciting. People loved it. It was not necessarily anything of thespian award season nature, but it is a film that is near and dear to a lot of people's hearts, whether it's for the intense thriller dancing scene, whether it's incorporating the 80s and how it approaches into the early 2000s, ⁓ dealing with growth, separation and friendships. Jesus: cultural Nolan: relationships as you get older, things happen, the social clicks that occur when you're young, how it affects you and influences you into the person you are today. Am I digging a little deep on the real meanings behind this film? Probably, but that's really what it carried. It carried all of that. ⁓ Jesus: Absolutely not. Absolutely not. This film should have been Oscar nominated. I'll say it right now. Hot take. Nolan: I you're alone on that one, but you know, ⁓ it was a good movie. I'm not gonna, you know. ⁓ It also kind of brought Mark Ruffalo, think, more to more audience eyes before he kind of blew up more and more. Jesus: I'm not. Yeah I think this was his probably coming out party, because he really got to do a lot in the role ⁓ alongside Jennifer Gardner, who was, you Nolan: Yeah, he did. Emotionally, thing like that, But, thus the question remains, Jalen. For why? For why is this reboot happening? Why? Why? Why? Jesus: Mm-hmm. Why? Why? I know. I don't need it. I probably won't see this reboot, to be honest, just because like... I just, have the... Like, if I want to watch it, I'll watch the original movie. Like, I'll never think of watching the rebooted version of what this movie is, because it's just the original is so, so good. And so timeless, to be honest. Like, you can still watch it right now and everything still kind of tracks and works. ⁓ Outside of the obvious, you'll see weird pagers and beepers because it was still early 2000s, but ⁓ everything else though, the message of the movie is transcendent of what goes on. Nolan: Yeah, but you gotta think. You gotta assume. They're gonna shift it. like something that would be when you're 17 years ago from being 30. So let's say this film comes out in 2028, no, seven, 2027, right? End of 2027. That means that this would have been, their young days would have taken place in 2010. know, like 2010 was a different time than it is today. Jesus: your We were, yeah, soft-worn high school for me. Yeah, it was a good time. And it definitely was a different time. Like, I see those TikTok reels of like high school in 2010. I'm like, wow, like we were really on some weird shit. You know what I mean? It was... Nolan: Yeah, exactly, that was a different time. Yeah. People were wearing skinny jeans of light blue color and jerking in the streets and... Jesus: And then all the like, all the like, all the basically bowl emo cuts of like the super long but like Zac Efron tuft hair like yeah dude like what were we doing? ⁓ Nolan: Where are you? Jesus: Amber Crombie just everywhere. But no, like, mean, there's definitely like a time and a place like there's a way you can reboot it. But like, I'm just I'm never rebooting and taking that reboot seriously. It might hit some nostalgia points for me, probably, if you see the trailer from that aspect, for sure. Like if it's made for our generation of kids that were, you know, a little too young to understand everything and the original 13 going on 30, that would be interesting. I mean, that's definitely a take. That's just like updating the movie. Nolan: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Jesus: But at the same time, I can't. think the original is so good and just so well done that it's just gonna not be that. The chemistry with Jennifer Gardner and Mark Ruffalo in that movie is so good. It's so, so good. And I don't know if Logan is gonna really replicate that with somebody else. know what mean? Really, the main thing is who's the female lead gonna be? Because that was Jennifer Gardner's movie. She... Nolan: You know, I do have Emily, so Emily Bader, let's take a look really quick. No, you're good here. Jesus: ⁓ sorry, Emily Bader, sorry, excuse me. I'm like, I don't know that person. You know what mean? Nolan: So she was most recently in that, I believe it's on Netflix, People We Meet On Vacation, which kind of took the young adult viewers by storm, I would say. She was in a couple other TV show things, a couple movies here and there. Nothing crazy, nothing to write home about. But I would assume that the People We Meet On Vacation role is probably what kind of we're like, yep, you know what? Jesus: Okay. Nolan: Let's do that one. ⁓ So I think that's pretty exciting in itself. it makes sense. They're kind of just digging into what's hot now. And then of course, you're bringing in Logan Lerman, who's been around the block for a good minute, but is still a great actor. And I think he deserves a little bit more ⁓ prominent roles. ⁓ But yeah, it's big shoes to fill. Now. Jesus: It really is though, cause Jennifer Gardner was like red hot in Hollywood when that was part of her like, you know what saying? So like that's the other part of, yeah, like she was doing everything. Like it was, yeah, she was everywhere. So like this movie for her really made sense because it's just another good role to add onto her like, you know, like just train of, you know, when actors kind of hit that streak for a while, you know what I'm saying? They really make their like career money. Nolan: Yes. She was doing alias. She did Electra. She did Daredevil Electra. Jesus: Like that was, that was Jennifer Garner. like Emily Bader, like I'm sorry. That's just not, that's just not, you know, what are we doing? Who is this? are we doing? What are we going no name for? Nolan: We'll give you a chance. We'll give you a chance. Jesus: We could, but like, we couldn't do someone a little bit more... relevant. You know? Nolan: Yeah, I mean it is going straight to Netflix, so it's not like Jesus: Like I think about what about the gal that played ⁓ his old the older version of Scott Lang's daughter Cassie in Endgame I feel like that girl would be great unless she could have just popped right in there Yeah, Catherine, you get her in there. Get her in there. Why not do that? Do that let her do a bigger role. Why not do that? Nolan: Catherine Newton. Let her do bigger roles, you know? You know? But yeah, I mean, this will be going to Netflix, it's, I think, clear in a way you're kind of seeing where what kind of vibe we're getting for the film. Clearly, couch watch, because it's only where you can really watch it. ⁓ Last question before we move on. Let's set the bar at 35%. that Jennifer Garner and all Mark Ruffalo make a cameo in this film or have a role in this film. Over. Jesus: over. Over. 100%. Nolan: I'm with you. I'm with you. I think she's gonna be like the mom or something. Jesus: Just it's too easy of a cash grab to not just be like, come do a cameo on the reboot real quick so we can make some money. Nolan: I like she's gonna be the mom of the young girl and then... yeah. Yeah. Nonetheless, let us all know what you think in the comments down below about the movie reboot for 13 Going on 30 starring Emily Bader and Logan Lerman. Jesus: could do it that way too and that's a classic way to do it right and just have her fucking be the mom whatever yeah but yeah definitely over Nolan: Next news nuggets. Jalen. Good news. Some good good news. So open AI, the corporation, I guess, or company that has Sora, the AI generating program decided to close Sora. ⁓ not really saying why, they said it's more for kind of resource, ⁓ not limitations, but preservation. ⁓ But it seems, you know, there's there's whispers going around that it's probably more for the fact that Sora is just a heaping steaming pile of copyright issues, you know, because it's literally taking IPs and making something different with them. ⁓ And thus, and thus, Jesus: Correct. Nolan: Bob Iger, before he stepped down as the CEO of Disney, did one last strategic deal and canceled the deal with OpenAI. We spoke about it maybe a couple months ago that they did sign a billion dollar deal with OpenAI in order to kind of create these shorts ⁓ with these Disney characters, you know, alleviating the possibility of copyright issues because the Disney characters would be allowed to use it freely because of licensing. ⁓ But now they decided to cancel it. seems like a logical idea because it does seem very dangerous for corporations, for businesses, for IPs, for the fact that open AI is just becoming, or AI in general, mean, is becoming a bigger and bigger deal in everyday society. ⁓ But Jaylen, what do you think about the deal that was, that is now isn't? Jesus: I mean, I think, thank God that he canceled it, because what a dumb deal in the first place. Like, there is no route where that was a smart move. Like, because then you're just letting everybody and anybody have a hold of this IP and do whatever they want with it in AI. So it could disparage the characters, they could make stuff that's inappropriate for the characters and all this other shit. ⁓ So yeah, thank God A for one that it's done and over. B, ⁓ now they have more legal grounds for every time they don't like a piece of AI, they can just go in there and get that lawsuit ready. And then, thou bang, they win it every time because all AI is doing is literally stealing and recreating owned and stuff that's not theirs. That's all AI is. Nothing is originally created and generated through AI. It's referencing something, somewhere, it can all be proven in a court of law. So yeah, the more of these that pop up, that we can just keep suing these idiotic AI bros out of existence until it just kind of dies and we get through this trend of having everything be AI, the more I'm just smiling ear to ear because like you have to start creating things again. This was a cool fad that's popped up in the last like two to three years. I think once more the lawsuits start piling up, the more copyright stuff kind of gets refined and as far as like the law of it, right, to catch up with the AI boom, then we'll be good to go. Nolan: Yeah, I mean you're not wrong. Yeah, it just seems like things are getting way out of hand. think one day I was scrolling through Twitter or X or whatever you want to call it and I saw an AI generate a video of Homelander versus Hancock. No way I was thinking those two characters would ever share a screen together, but AI makes that possible which is crazy to think. Jesus: There's literally entire like Star Wars AI generated films on YouTube that don't have copyright strikes at all, which is insane to me. That's literally what it is. It's a copyright violation. Like you don't own any of those characters. Nolan: Not yet. But yeah, ⁓ good stuff from Bob Iger before stepping down and we'll see how they kind of pivot from here. Let us know down in the comments below what you think about Disney canceling their billion dollar deal with OpenAI. ⁓ Next news nugget, Wonder Man is renewed for season 2, Yaya Abdul-Mateen and Ben Kingsley set to return. ⁓ Jalen, you and I both agree, fantastic show, great writing, great character development, ⁓ didn't even need that many action scenes, it was just a good show through and through. ⁓ As we move on to what is now announced as season 2, what do you want to see from it? Jesus: Yes. Yes. I think now we can kind of lean more into the superhero-ish stuff in it. A little bit more action from damage control, trying to get involved again, obviously. ⁓ Nolan: Okay. Jesus: trying to keep him in check as they go through his fame and rise through the premiere of this movie, which he's now going to be a very globally known star. That's kind of what the last episode left off with. Obviously the movie did very, very well. ⁓ But he's also now kind of more comfortable with his powers and doing things with them publicly, like saving his friend that he made. So the main thing for me in the second season is there's things that work that got to keep working, which is the Ben Kingsley and ⁓ Yaya's just on-screen relationship stuff and just keeping that consistent. ⁓ And then other than that, that's gonna be the biggest thing for me is just maybe we lean a little bit more into the superhero-y stuff, for sure. Nolan: Fair enough. Now my question to you, just based off of my own memory, don't recall ⁓ it being disclosed, did they really venture into how he got his powers? Cause in my head, just looking at it from the outside in, this probably will be premiering as we enter the mutant arc of MCU. Are they gonna kinda go dig into it and say that he is maybe just a mutant? Jesus: Yeah. You could go that route, because the OG route I think is involving Galactus and the power cosmic stuff, which is kind of weirder. So I think a mutation is probably just an easier, like, know, divulge. Maybe just say, he's a mutant. Throw him in there with the X-Men. Call it a day. Whatever. Who cares? Nolan: That would make sense, just given his power set. He's a mutant, you know. His DNA is tainted. Jesus: But yeah, they really didn't get into a lot of how he's dealt with those powers outside of that one little story we got in the kitchen with him and his mom and all that other stuff. It's all alluded to, but we didn't see anything. Nolan: Mm-hmm. Jesus: And part of that, I think, is really good from a creative standpoint, because it just adds this tension of wondering about it. And so I wonder if maybe there's just going to be one of those episodes where we just get that whole day and it's really dramatic. And I would love to see that kind of thing happen ⁓ to fill in that gap. No, they could go into more of how we got his powers or how they manifested and all that other stuff. Nolan: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Right on, right on. Well, we'll find out. Hopefully ⁓ this isn't going to be one of those things where it takes forever. Maybe they kind of hop on the daredevil train and just let's get to production now. Let's get things cracking, get things maybe released by, you know, fingers crossed, end of 2027, beginning of 2028, because I mean, now that they've announced it, I doubt they have really gotten anything prepped or, you know, locations and all that good stuff. ⁓ Jesus: I would love that. Nolan: Yeah, let us know down in comments below what you think about the season 2 announcement of Wonder Man. Final news nugget we got today, Jalen. This one's an interesting one because I wanted to get your take on it. Now I know that ⁓ Keoni kinda are... Was it Keoni? Yeah, Keoni spoke to me about it. About this. Because we are some Lord of the Rings nerds. ⁓ They are getting a sequel to the Lord of the Rings trilogy after the hunt for Gollum. Jesus: Mm-hmm Nolan: ⁓ after meaning in real life once Hunter Golem premieres they're gonna start working on the other one not that it's sequential in chronological you know of films this one based off of reports ⁓ is gonna be set 14 years after the passing of Frodo ⁓ Sam, Merry and Pippin set out to retrace the first steps of their adventure meanwhile Sam's daughter Eleanor Jesus: Right. Right. Nolan: has discovered a long buried secret and is determined to uncover why the War of the Ring was nearly lost before it even began. The kicker for this film is that Peter Jackson will be co-writing it with Stephen Colbert. Now for those who are unaware, Stephen Colbert is kind of like the mega nerd. He is the Sam Witwer of Lord of the Rings, if that makes sense. You know, I mean, you, yeah. Jesus: Hmm. He really is. Yes. I mean, that's not a bad person to be collaborating on this project with. Like, he's definitely a, like, am here for Mordor guy. Nolan: Yeah, but I have to ask because online, as there is always with any announcement in life and world in Hollywood, there is the split group of he is the most knowledgeable person to co-write a film. He has screenwriting abilities. He's done it before in Hollywood and now he has a plethora of knowledge of Lord of the Rings and every single, you know, sequential book that has come from that world of Middle Earth and he's going to be co-writing it with Peter Jackson while the other side of it is saying we can't just let a nerd who loves the thing just write it because he thinks he knows everything about Lord of the Rings and that he's going to ruin it because he's going to make it all woke and slop and whatever. Where's your take on it? Jesus: I think he's gonna be fine. I think he said it's like having Sam Witwer in the room for Star Wars. So these people that are upset about it are dumb and uninformed and very very sad. But yeah, no, I think that's a good collaboration. I'm interested in why we're trying to do another Lord of the Rings trilogy thing, whatever. But hey, if we're do it, sounds like a good guy to do it. Nolan: Yeah. Jesus: Sounds like it could work. Interesting that we're going female lead again too, which I think is where probably the woke vibe is coming from. Nolan: ⁓ I am curious though. Well, I don't know if it's female-led. I think she's gonna be like a subplot kind of thing. ⁓ Because it does seem like it's gonna be centered around Sam, Mary, and Pippin, so I don't know if that means we're getting the boys back. You know, Dominic Monahan, ⁓ Billy... I forgot what his name was. Billy Boyd. And Sean Astin. ⁓ You know, we'll find out. We'll find out. ⁓ Jesus: Maybe, maybe, maybe. see. Nolan: I'm actually very excited to see where this goes because I'm a big Lord of the Rings fan. I would love to see more in that world. I don't know maybe it's like a public domain thing where like you gotta make a film or else... Jesus: It could be dude, it could be. Or like a Spider-Man thing, right? They only have that five year window to crank out another Spidey movie or they lose the rights. Nolan: Ahem. Yeah. Cause I'm trying to think when was the last Hobbit film released. Jesus: ⁓ good lord. I think we're still in college, man. Nolan: 2014 yeah, so maybe it isn't public domain because I think it would have it would have kicked the bucket by now. Yeah, yeah, but well We're just shits and giggles. Fuck it ⁓ But yeah, let us know down the comments below what you think of the next Lord of the Rings film coming out after the hunt for Gollum is released Co-written by Stephen Colbert and Peter Jackson himself set about 14 years after the original trilogy Jesus: Definitely would have expired by then for sure. So we're just doing it to do it again, it seems like. Just for, yeah, just for gigs. Nolan: That'll do it for our news nuggets everybody. We're gonna dive into some trailer reviews. We got a couple doozies involved with those or mixed in with those as well as we're gonna cover Daredevil Born Again Season 1 or Season 2 Episode 1. So get your towels ready everybody. First trailer though. The End of Oak Street. Now the reason we included this one is one because Ewan McGregor, Obi-Wan himself, and Hathaway. Catwoman herself, you know. Jesus: Beardless Obi-Wan, very weird looking. Nolan: Everyone loves Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor. ⁓ End of Oak Street centers around a family in a suburban neighborhood who seemingly have their neighborhood street removed from where it is, like physically, and just dropped in what seems like a prehistoric time with dinosaurs. ⁓ They Have Said It is a little bit more of a thriller. It's kind of a weird twist and turn movie. It's produced by J.J. Abrams. It's directed by the director who did It Follows, which was a phenomenal low-budget horror film from, I want to say 2014, 2015-ish. But Jalen, you saw this teaser, what'd think? Jesus: I it was definitely intense. Definitely leaning into some more like kind of real sci-fi with a lot of those horror elements in there but some weird like space creative things so yeah it looks very very interesting. Cool to see you and McGregor out and about again doing some more work. Just a phenomenal actor that really didn't get a lot of like... Nolan: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Jesus: I feel like his glow up post-Star Wars wasn't as much as it should have been. Because he had the one movie where he was on the island and he was a clone or whatever and that didn't really pop off. I think it was The Island, yeah. Conceptually that movie was really cool, it just didn't execute a lot of those high level ideas well. Nolan: ⁓ yeah. The island. So know, he had a ton of good films wrapped around it though. did Moulin Rouge, ⁓ Big Fish which was a well received classic film, amounts ⁓ fantastical nature. I get what you mean exactly. And then Anne Hathaway seems to be having her resurgence, her renaissance. Jesus: He did. He did. soon. She just kind of goes away for a little bit and then all of sudden she's cranking out some bangers, bang, bang, bang, one after another, you know what saying? She really doesn't. Good for her. Good for her. Same. Nolan: And doesn't age, it's kinda crazy, you know? I need to know her skin routine. Good for her. Good for her. But let us know down in the comments below what you thought of the trailer, teaser really, of the end of Oak Street. Next trailer. The Furious. Now Jalen, just watched this before we recorded. It is very The Raid-esque. Jesus: Good lord. Nolan: Ang Bak as you mentioned while you were watching it ⁓ It does not hold back now You turn on the trailer you think it is a foreign film. It's all in English. So this is This is centered around English speaking characters everybody ⁓ But the thing that stood out for me is obviously it's this guy Going after someone who kidnaps his daughter teams up with this guy Jesus: Yes. The raid on Bach. ⁓ Nolan: looks like he's fighting the criminal underworld and is just letting them have it. The cinematography looks absolutely insane in this film. I can't speak on it enough like If this gets a wide release in theaters and does half as well as I think, I wouldn't be surprised if cinematography is one of the award season things for this film. It sounds sacrilegious because it's just like an action film, but you get the nomination for something like this. think that it was just amazing. That's all I can say. But also the trailer pulled no punches. Literally, was sledgehammers smacking against people's heads. Jesus: It could be. It could be. It's gonna be going up against Dune though, if we get that far. No. Literally none were pulled. Everything was, yes, very violent. Nolan: There was kicking and breaking and a lot of things that probably you don't want to take your children to see. Yeah. But Jalen, what did you think? Jesus: I felt it. good time. Like I said, we've been fans of Jet Li and Jackie Chan for our entire lives and nobody's really filled the void. Obviously Donnie Yen and Ip Man, that sequence of films is fantastic. We love that. ⁓ So anytime we can maybe shine a light on some new blood to come into that role and fill that void in my heart ⁓ is always a good time. ⁓ Because this just looks fun. Looks like it's gonna be a good time. A lot of action, a lot of great, I think if anything, it could get nominated for some stunt coordinating. ⁓ or stunt category stuff if it gets that far. It looks like it was clearly produced and shot overseas but like you said they did not do a dub. This looks like they're speaking just English in the film so good on them for trying to make that work and trying to execute that because normally that's it's the inverse. You're going to shoot and produce something looks like this and it's really cool but you're going to to either read it or dub it ⁓ but they found a bunch of actors that spoke English and wanted to Nolan: Mm-hmm. Jesus: of the lines that way, so good for them. So it makes it more palatable, I think, to a U.S. audience, but clearly has all the overseas flair that we're used to from films like Aung Bak and The Raid and all the other stuff. So yeah, I'm glad we didn't have to compromise anything there. Nolan: ⁓ yeah. ⁓ yeah. I know, I'm in total agreement with that because I think that's something that makes these films much more exciting to watch is ⁓ how they kind of create everything crafted, put it together with a little bit more TLC, you know what I mean? And we are getting introduced to these newer actors who maybe are bigger in some respects in different forms of Hollywood overseas. ⁓ And then we're getting... ⁓ yeah, yeah. Yes. Jesus: Yeah, for sure. They're... Yeah. 100 % the main actor has done other work for like overseas movies. 100%. There's no way this guy's just randomly there. So... Yeah, there's no way they just found this guy and this is first movie. Nolan: He just comes off the street like, you're in it, man. You're Wonder Man now. ⁓ But yeah, go check out this trailer. If you're interested in those martial arts films from back in the day, this is going to definitely whet your whistle and let us know what you think about it in the comments down below. Next trailer, Jalen. the Moana live action Jesus: Mmm. Yeah. Nolan: You know... ⁓ Jesus: Can we just say it? Nolan: I didn't like it. Jesus: Yeah, he did his ass. What are we doing? Cancel the movie. Right now. Nolan: I didn't like it. I didn't like it. Not for anything. It's too soon. Jesus: A, it's just too soon. I think it was our first note when this was even announced. We talked about how soon, it was way too soon. And then also, just like, just no. You know what I mean? Just no. We don't need this live action remake. hasn't, Moana is a Disney, I would say it's a Disney classic with how popular it got and performed. Nolan: Yeah, yeah. Yeah, no, no, no. Jesus: But it's way too close to be in that category of like a Snow White or a Beauty and the Beast or a Cinderella to where we're doing a live action remake for younger kids now that had never seen the original animated films, right? That was the idea with this whole like make everything live action and rehash and get some more money in the Disney bank. ⁓ This is just like dumb. This is just, yeah, I was thoroughly not interested in seeing Dwayne The Rock Johnson be Maui. Nolan: Mm-hmm. Jesus: ⁓ I enjoyed him in Moana, the original film, as a voice actor, ⁓ but no part of me was like, ready for that. Nolan: Also, you know, maybe it's just the bias because he's been bald for so long. The wig just doesn't look right. It just doesn't. Doesn't. It doesn't. Jesus: Doesn't look great. Doesn't look great. This looks like AI, but it's not somehow. And I legit thought it was an AI trailer. That's how not great this looks. Nolan: This looks like Fabio. Now this is no discredit to the young actress who is playing Moana. This is no discredit to all the actors and the crew and everything that is making this film. It just, when you look at something that's being remade or turned into a live action, you gotta ask the question, what do you bring into the table that's gonna make me love this on the same bar as the original or more? And I don't see that in this trailer. don't, know, other than the oohs and ahs of it being live action, What is it doing for me? I just don't see it. I'm not saying that the film is going to fail. It could be fantastic because we know that the younger generation is going to love watching this film brought to the live action screen. ⁓ You brought Hey Hey Back the Chicken. Yeah, yeah. So that's going to be the comedic relief. You know that The Rock is going to have some weird comedic relief, too, that people may attach to. But I'm just not digging it. Jesus: Did see the chicken, it's there. It's... yeah, nah, it's not a... Nolan: Just not diggin' it. Yeah. Yeah. Jesus: It's not working for me, Chief. tell you that. It ain't working for me. Nolan: Not working for me chief. Yeah. Yeah. But you know to each their own if you love this trailer good on you. I'm happy for you. If not I see you're probably on the same board that we are but let us know down the comments below what you did think of the trailer for the live action Moana. Next and final trailer we're reviewing today. Harry Potter. Now rolling off my last statement, you're making a remake, what are you doing for me, what are you bringing to me, that's gonna be new, fresh, different. I'm gonna be plumb honest. This is another trailer I was not really digging. ⁓ Jesus: It's Harry Potter, innit? It's bloody year, innit? Yeah. ⁓ Nolan: once again, not because of anything that these actors and actresses did, the crew, production, the set designs, everything, it looked gorgeous. It was sensational to see it again, but that is where the line is drawn. See it again. ⁓ Obviously I'm going to have to watch the series to understand if there's really some nuance differences, but it just didn't seem like I was brought into a Jesus: that HBO money. Nolan: different world. It seems like I was returning to the same world with different faces. And that's something that I'm very scared about with this series because I'm a huge Harry Potter fan. watch it yearly. We go through eight films, ⁓ usually around like the Christmas time, Halloween time, just because it's fitting around that. ⁓ But we got to give these characters their due. I'm going to give them the good old try. ⁓ Jesus: Yeah, for sure. No, for sure. Nolan: ⁓ But it just didn't it didn't feel fresh it didn't feel like I was being brought into we got a lot of good images We got a image of John Lithgow as Dumbledore himself. We got a ⁓ great shots of these three characters ⁓ Shot of him in his Quidditch robes. We got a shot of McGonagall ⁓ Hagrid, which was interesting to see because it was definitely a different vibe. Let's let's let's Yeah, we're getting there. I was gonna get to that one Jesus: Mm-hmm. Snape. We saw Black Snape. It's lit. It's lit! I thought it looked good! Save some brother now! We're down with it! Come on! Nolan: We got, we got, we got Blacks night. ⁓ ⁓ That is the question now that I was gonna bring to you, Jalen. Because once again, they are letting this actor have it. There have been... There have been a lot of... jokes. Yeah. Jesus: Of course they are. This was a massive fumble from them, I will say that, because in the book it's very clear that he's white. Like there's not really like, it's not open for interpretation like with some other things and characters and IPs that are like, like Captain America is never described as a white American male. He is just. He is just Steve Rogers. He does the experiment. And everything that is like core and essential to Steve Rogers is not regarding him being a Caucasian person. However, in Harry Potter, like Snape is literally described as this kind of pasty, slenderish man, like in the book. Like it's in the text. There's really no getting around hiring a black guy to play Snape. Okay. That's the, like, that's yeah. You, you, you fucked up. Nolan: pale, greasy haired, crooked big nose. Jesus: Okay, you fucked up. was pretty bad. I liked the trailer, actually. I'm not gonna lie you. I was excited to get back into Hogwarts and all those things. And I also love Harry Potter itself. Did we confirm, I think, is the idea with the series is they're gonna try to do one book per season? Okay. So that makes sense. So from that aspect, here's what the problems are. Because your notes about it feeling samey are... Nolan: Mm-hmm. One season for each book. Yep. Jesus: both what is fun about Harry Potter, but also what makes it repetitive if we're trying to do something different because you don't have a lot of wiggle room because of the success of the previous films. So like, I hear what you're saying, but like, what else can they really do? Because you can't make stuff look different because then you, I mean, also that, but actually I was down for a series because with the book property, I think they lend better to... Nolan: That's true. That is true. That is true. not make this. Like why? Yeah, there's more details. There's more details to be ex- yeah. Jesus: There's more we can get into and that's what it looked like to me in this trailer, is we're gonna get a lot more into some sweatier stuff from the book. ⁓ And I'll be honest, I read the first three to four and a half. I didn't get all the way through the book series myself. But ⁓ I loved the first book, The Philosopher's Stone, or The Sorcerer's Stone, whatever it is. It's awesome. So. Nolan: Why crush those things? In the UK they go by philosophers, don't everybody who's curious of why it says philosophers? Yeah. Yeah. Jesus: I was gonna say, wasn't it not like America, we got the Sorcerer's Stone, but this says Philosopher's Stone, so was like, what the hell is going on here, guy? ⁓ Fun facts for you, but there you go. But I think my initial takeaways were the new lead for Harry looked fantastic. However. Nolan: Mm-hmm, I'll agree. Jesus: I was not sold on Ron and Hermione on the recast. They are going to bother me a lot. I can tell you that right now. ⁓ I can get over the fact that Snape is black, because I think the actor has the same aura. And when he popped up on screen, I was like, ⁓ this is working for me. OK, I see what you're putting down, young man. Go ahead. Go to work now. Go to work now. Nolan: I would give it that as well. Yeah. Jesus: ⁓ So I got the same like kind of vibes from that Dumbledore looked great. I thought Hagrid looked really cool I loved that casting worked out so well like he still had the same kind of energy that the previous actor had And it also like it it's Hagrid, but it's a little different than what we're used to it's all just reimagined Cinematically all the shots look fantastic. That's not to be Nolan: It's a little different. It's a little different. Jesus: I wasn't surprised by that because it's an HBO show. They hire great cinematographies and like costuming and whatever. ⁓ So this trailer will like... Nolan: Mm-hmm. This set design looks fantastic. I'm not gonna take anything away from them. Yeah. Jesus: pretty worked out well for me, I will say. So it still got me interested in the film, but I will say this, I just, I was not sold on Ron and Hermione from the trailer. I was sold on the new Harry. Harry looked great. I think that kid did awesome. I think he's gonna carry the role well, just like Daniel did back in the day. ⁓ But I, those other two, man, we are, we might be in some trouble, that's for sure. ⁓ Nolan: Yeah? Yeah? Jesus: Yeah, we'll see. We'll see. So for me was like a seven and half out of 10, I would say. I'm not gonna give three episodes, man. Can I give the three episode track? Three episode track. Nolan: People see I'm gonna I'm I'm gonna give it the old college try, you know, I think that this Look, I have no doubt, just especially because this is an HBO original, technically, know, HBO gold standard of TV shows. I have no doubt that this will be a great show. But I do know that there is going to be always the thought in the back of my head where ⁓ I prefer the original iteration of it. ⁓ You know, this is that it's just going to be it's unfair thing. but it's something that they knew that they signed up for once they decided to make this show. ⁓ But I do think that this has some promise. I am on board with you with Hermione and Ron. They did feel little off. I'm wondering how they're gonna portray their energies because if it feels like it's a stock standard remake of how Emma Watson and... ⁓ Rupert Grint performed Ron and Hermione then it's gonna be like well you just copied exactly that but I'm hoping that they give Jesus: Yeah. I'm also worried that it's gonna turn into like, we're just watching the movie with a little bit more in between all the different parts of the movie. You know what I mean? Like, we're watching eight episodes of the movie where they're just putting in a little bit more at a time and making the cut, the runtime 45 to like, you know, an hour. Nolan: We're watching the director's cut. Jesus: versus like actually diving in and like giving us more than what was able to be shown. There should still be those classic moments from the movies and the books that we should see, right? But there's other things that I'm hoping are filling in gaps a lot that we didn't get to see because of it being a movie and you can only do it for like two hours, two and a half hours. Nolan: Yeah, yeah, I agree. Hopefully we're gonna get some more footage and things coming out soon and then we can get a real good look to see how they've maybe immersed us in the world of Harry Potter but change things for the better or for their own flair and taste. But I'll be here, I'll be here watching it. I'm not gonna shy away from it. I'm not gonna shun it and say I'm gonna 86 this from my watch list. It's gonna be there. ⁓ But let us know what you guys thought in the... comments down below about the first trailer for Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone season 1 technically. That'll do it for our trailer reviews. Jalen before you get out of here we gotta do it because we've been talking about it we're getting all these shows and things ⁓ Jesus: Here it is. Nolan: Daredevil Born Again Season 2 premiere. They are going for the one episode a week, which is fantastic because it's gonna keep people coming back to watch it. But we're back. Jesus: I did see there were two this next week and then it goes back to the one. Yes, it was like one, two, three, and then four, five, six, seven, eight on the release schedule that they put out. Nolan: How is it? Interesting. Let me take a look but Jalen, I'm gonna let you go everybody where this is gonna be spoiler heavy so just be prepared as you're listening to this Jesus: Yeah, this is your warning right now. If you have not watched the episode, get out. Like right now. Nolan: Get the hell Go ahead, Jalen. I'm gonna look up the episode list. Jesus: and then come back. I just loved the immediate return to it feels like it's a real show again. This doesn't feel convoluted. This didn't feel like they were doing like a weird Frankenstein stitched together job. is very clearly they had a vision of where we're starting the season and where it's going and how all these plot threads need to start for us to kind of go on our different ways throughout the ⁓ entirety of this story. ⁓ And it's also very much getting away from ⁓ some of the things that I did like about the original concept of Born Again and leaning back into more of the Netflix stuff, which I didn't like so much, where it's like, they try to make him Batman again. And it's very clear that like, because of the events of season one, is full blown daredevil in season two. So there is no, there is no, right, there is no Matt Murdock, which I really, you know, I think that was one of the things I did enjoy about the Born Again. I want to see him be a lawyer. Nolan: Mm-hmm. He's dropped the Matt Murdock. I love the lawyer stuff, you know? Jesus: and do all that stuff. think that's cool. I don't wanna see Batman in red. Like that's not who Daredevil is. And so that part of it I'm not so thrilled about, I will say off rip just as a fan. But my God does it look good to have those Double D's finally back on the suit. We've just been waiting and waiting and waiting as fans. ⁓ And the black suit looked great. I loved the opening sequence on the ship, on the boat dock where he comes in and it's just immediately like reminding you Nolan: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Jesus: that this is brutality at its finest. Matt doesn't care anymore, and he is very much just trying to get things done by basically as many means necessary as possible. ⁓ The cinematography also. ⁓ my god. Just, all the shots in here looked amazing. The, the, the... Yes. Nolan: Mm-hmm. Fantastic. Choreography, cinematography, everything, the nuance of when he's listening, it kind of like creeps in with like the camera shots. Yeah, yes. Jesus: The aspect ratio changes with the super hearing thing. ⁓ my God, that was so sick. That was beautiful. And then I think in general, we're back to having that Netflix quality. Like one thing that was always so striking with the Netflix version of the show was like the lighting and how that would kind of set moods and tones to all the scenes. I think we're getting back to that era of Daredevil, at least from this initial. ⁓ episode of season two because like this like the bedroom scene with him and Karen when he comes home and all that and then in the morning where it's like just focused on Matt but there's this beautiful kind of yellow light breaking through the lens and she's blurred in the background while they're having that conversation that's just like a really beautiful shot in the the scene and then the other one where him and Herod and Cherry are walking down the little like columns thing outside in the park like that shot was really cool. ⁓ I mean man they really ⁓ Nolan: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Ooh, that was a great shot. Jesus: stepped up a lot of their game for season two. ⁓ And I really enjoyed pretty much every minute, every second of this ⁓ and all that kind of stuff. my only drawbacks again are, initially, is that it feels like we're going back to, know, Daredevil is Batman and he's not Batman. But it makes sense for, I guess, what they're trying to kind of go through for this right now, which is that he has to kind of commit everything to trying to stop what's going on with Wilson Fisk. Nolan: Yeah, yeah. Mm-hmm. Yeah, yeah, absolutely. ⁓ Diving into that, Wilson Fisk, still the mayor. The anti-Vigilante task force is in full effect. ⁓ Very reflective, I'll say, of certain things going on in today's... Yeah, it's not subtle. They're sticking it to you. ⁓ We have, obviously, the contrast turn of... Jesus: It's not subtle. It's not subtle. It's very direct. Yeah. Nolan: Heather Glenn from season one, Dr. Glenn from season one to season two where now she's kind of like this, you know, she's she's a pawn to to to Fisk, but she's also kind of dealing with her own PTSD of what happened with I forgot what the villain's name was from last game, but you guys know what Muse there you go. Obviously. Jesus: I have a theory. Muse. Nolan: We get a lot of cool things, they're kind of developing as it goes. We continue with this weird thing with Matthew Lillard's introduction and how he seems to know everything. And he's like, ah, you think you're this and that, blah, blah, blah. So you're going to want to take that call. like, I miss you on screen more and more, Matthew Lillard. I'm glad to have him in this season. It was very, very fun to see. Jesus: How great was he though? Was he not amazing? Right? So good. He was so good. I loved Matthew Lillard's character in this. Very clearly working for some high, high, high ups in the government that have clearly been corrupted by Fisk ⁓ and whatnot. At least that's the TLDR from his character. I do have a theory for the former love interest with Daredevil. I think... Nolan: Go for it. Jesus: Not a ton of people might love it, but I do think this is leading into her picking up the mantle of being the muse. Just from comics, that's a thing that could happen. She doesn't really get over the trauma, she then just becomes the trauma and starts just kind of killing people a lot in a different way. So, hot take, I think that's what the threads could lead to, because that villain was kind of cool. Nolan: Gotcha. I mean it could pan out, know? Jesus: And also like, what a great, like a psychologist that turns into a villain would be so fun because she would really mess with people as the muse in a different way. Yeah, she really fuck you up. Yeah, so I think kind of keeping that villain thread alive while he deals with Fisk and then maybe that's a come back around thing that we deal with in season three would be cool. ⁓ I... Nolan: mentally fuck you up. Mm-hmm. Jesus: I'm so salty that Frank is allegedly not in this second season. Nolan: And what a redirect. Like in that final scene, I was like, ⁓ these are snipeshots. ⁓ it's Frank. But no, was bullseye. ⁓ Jesus: Yeah. No, it was our boy Bullseye. I loved it. In that moment I'm like, ⁓ my God. First of all, felt like Cherry was gonna eat it also. We spent a lot of time with him. We spent a lot of time with him in the episode though, and it's one of those things where you're like, man, we're hanging out with you a lot, and I'm not liking this. I don't like how this is making me feel right now. ⁓ Nolan: ⁓ I mean, he still might eat it. You're taking too much time. Yeah. Jesus: And then yeah, I thought Matt was cooked and then he got saved by Bullseye. So very clearly there's gonna be some lines drawn there, which is very interesting. Exactly, now we have that question of why in episodes two coming up this next week. Nolan: Now, the question is why? You were correct, it is two and three coming out next week. Jesus: Which means they're both gonna be bangers because they felt like if we just release one, people are gonna be pissed. Yeah, so there's gonna be some crossover there. Which is good, which makes me think that maybe they thought of this opening set piece of the first three episodes as really tight so they didn't wanna have a big delay of setting up all this stuff for later. ⁓ Nolan: They have to connect. Mm-hmm. Jesus: But yeah, overall, like phenomenal return to the show. It's just nice to see that there's a clear vision. A cohesive vision also is the big thing. How do you feel about him and Karen again? Because I'm kinda over it. Nolan: It felt kinda like that fresh, we shouldn't be together but can't resist you kind of thing, not necessarily like they were star-crossed you know? It didn't... yeah, yeah. Jesus: I didn't, I never bought it in the original show either. I never got, I was more of a castle, know, a carassal fan. I wanted that thing to happen. That's the ship I was on, and now it's not happening, and I'm a little sad about it. I legit thought when he comes back from the ship and you just see the arms on the Muay Thai pole things or whatever the hell they're called, ⁓ Nolan: Well, you know... ⁓ yeah. Jesus: I thought we were gonna get a shadow blind spot drop in there. His actual sidekick from the show, or from the comics. was like, oh, did they keep something? And then it was Karen, I was like, oh, okay. This is like my immediate reaction, was like, all right, whatever. That's great. Or maybe that's kind of like what she'll fill in as this season, it's like kind of maybe a pseudo. Nolan: Mm-hmm. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I mean Yeah, it's just you. ⁓ Jesus: sidekick. it seems like Karen's gonna have a little bit more to do ⁓ and whatnot. So yeah, it was great to see all the characters. I loved it. Nolan: Do you think? Do think, ⁓ cause you know, you look at this, there is three ways that this new, not new, but this return to the relationship can kind of take place. One, they break up because they realize it's just not meant to be anymore because it was fresh, fun, exciting. Two, they stay together for the entirety of this series. Jesus: Mm-hmm. sure. Nolan: and they're just known as the relationship, which is fine, know, that's what you're gonna go for, cool, whatever. Or three, they kill her and remove all remnants from his past, including her and Foggy, and it's kind of him going off to be the daredevil. Jesus: Sure. Oof. Killing Karen just from a story and narrative standpoint is hard for his character as Matt Murdock in Daredevil because she's pretty close in the comics. That would be interesting to do. ⁓ I could see them going either way with that though. That's hot take. I could see them killing Karen just because. Why not? Why not? Nolan: Mm-hmm. because why not but yeah what a banger of an episode what a way to start the season strong guys good going marvel way to go ⁓ but yeah i'm w's w's definitely excited for episodes two and three ⁓ and we will review it with you here when we watch them ⁓ before we get out of there or here Jesus: Bang. Collapse. Collapse in the chat, snaps in the chat, all of it. W's in the chat, we're so back, baby, we're back. That's right. Nolan: Jalen, clearly, we've both watched the first three episodes of Invincible, fantastic show, giving me something more to look forward to each week. I was a little disappointed with episode 4, I won't spoil it for any of you guys out there, but it was little bit of a nothing burger, just kind of setting the scene for future things. Jesus: It does feel very set up heavy this season. the set pieces are there, but there is a lot of dialogue and it feels very, like the pacing is very, very slow in these early, like the first half of this new season is very slow. So I'm hoping that picks up. Like the most fun episode so far was the one with Omni-Man trying to go figure out all the other weapons that he hid to kill Viltrumites so far. Like that was my favorite episode of the four that I've, like that one's awesome. Nolan: Yeah. Yes. Yes. Yeah, yeah. That was actually pretty fun. I like that one in the the incompetent ship crew. That was was a Larry. was great. Jesus: Yeah, that should, yeah, the incompetent captain or whatever, that was pretty good. But yeah, I think Mark is going through some very interesting things. I wanna see what the rationale is with Adam Eve and her powers for sure. ⁓ Nolan: ⁓ Yeah, and for those of you who have at least gotten to episode 3, that'll be spoiler heavy for this part at least, she is pregnant, which seems to be the reason why her powers are failing or not working correctly. And that seems like another thing that's just gonna be trauma-ed onto Mark's brain this season, because yeah, at least from episode 4 he does not know yet, so for those of you wondering, it's gonna be a long haul season I think for information. Jesus: Yep. Yeah, that's why not? Make the kid suffer. Yeah. for he's definitely having to take a lot on as a hero this season, which is nice. ⁓ But also limit testing some more and more, he just kind of keeps figuring out ways to do the best that he can and yeah, we'll see. Cecil is gonna get more involved I think later on, that's my theory. He really is, like good for that guy. Nolan: Yes, definitely. Yeah, we will see. Yeah, shout out to Walton Goggins. He's everywhere now, you know. But yeah, we will be here for episode 5 next week as well. Remember everybody, we got a lot of things coming. A lot of stuff. Be ready to review it with us because that's what we do here. We watch all the good stuff from movies, TV, entertainment, and we break it back. But that'll do it for us here on this segment of Post Credits. Thank you so much for joining us this week. Thank you so much for making us a part of your day. Jesus: That's right. Nolan: We enjoyed having me be a part of ours. From all of us here at Poinsettia, good vibes and love everybody. Jesus: deuces
