  It's Wednesday. It is July the 30th.

  And you know what today is? Today is the International Day
• 0:20
  of Friendship. This is a day that if you
• 0:22
  haven't reached out to a friend in a while, do it today.

  Today's the day that the United Nations encourages all of us not
• 0:29
  just to reach out to our mates, but for countries to reach out
• 0:32
  to each other, for cultures to reach out to each other, so that
• 0:35
  we can have our world be a place of friendship, not a place of
• 0:39
  strangerhood. So what a fantastic thing.
• 0:42
  Let us celebrate that. However, you can do that today
• 0:44
  by reaching out in friendship to the people around you.
• 0:48
  And ironically, today, today is a Bible reading that is going to
• 0:53
  be, well, it's going to seem the opposite of that because it'll
• 0:56
  begin by God through Moses giving instructions to build a
• 1:00
  temple and then curses to anyone.
• 1:03
  Not not friendship, but curse on anyone who doesn't follow the
• 1:08
  other ways that God has set out in the aforementioned chapters.

  So. So this is a day where God will
• 1:15
  set out how to worship Him, and then woe betide those who fail
• 1:21
  to worship Him there. Oh dear, on this day of
• 1:24
  friendship, let us read about how to worship God and how to
• 1:29
  follow God as we read together Deuteronomy chapter 27.
• 1:42
  Then Moses and the leaders of Israel gave this charge to the
• 1:46
  people. Obey all these commands that I'm
• 1:49
  giving you today. When you cross the Jordan River
• 1:52
  and enter the land the Lord your God is giving you, set up some
• 1:56
  large stones and coat them with plaster.
• 1:59
  Write this whole body of instruction on them.
• 2:02
  When you cross the river to enter the land, the Lord your
• 2:05
  God is giving you a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the
• 2:10
  Lord the God of your ancestors promised you.
• 2:13
  When you cross the Jordan, set up these stones at Mount Ebal
• 2:18
  and coat them with plaster as I'm commanding you today.
• 2:21
  Then build an altar there to the Lord your God using natural
• 2:26
  uncut stones. You must not shape the stones
• 2:29
  with an iron tool. Build the altar of uncut stones
• 2:34
  and use it to offer burnt offerings to the Lord your God.
• 2:38
  Also, sacrifice peace offerings on it and celebrate by feasting
• 2:43
  there before the Lord your God. You must clearly write all these
• 2:47
  instructions on the stones coated with plaster.
• 2:51
  Then Moses and the Levitical priests addressed all Israel as
• 2:55
  follows. O Israel, be quiet and listen.

  Today you have become the people of the Lord your God.
• 3:06
  So you must obey the Lord your God by keeping all these
• 3:09
  commands and decrees that I'm giving you today.
• 3:14
  That same day, Moses also gave this charge to the people.

  When you cross the Jordan River, the tribes of Simeon, Levi,
• 3:24
  Judah, Isaka, Joseph, and Benjamin must stand on Mount
• 3:29
  Gerizim to proclaim a blessing over the people.
• 3:33
  And the tribes of Reuben, Gad, Asher, Zebulun, Dan, and Naftali
• 3:40
  must stand on Mount Ebal to proclaim a curse.
• 3:44
  Then the Levites will shout to all the people of Israel.

  Cursed is anyone who carves or casts an idol and secretly sets
• 3:53
  it up. These idols, the work of
• 3:56
  Craftsman, are detestable to the Lord, and all the people will
• 4:00
  reply Amen. Cursed is anyone who dishonours
• 4:06
  his father or mother, and all the people will reply Amen.
• 4:12
  Cursed is anyone who steals property from a neighbour by
• 4:15
  moving a boundary marker and all the people will reply.
• 4:19
  Amen. Cursed is anyone who leads a
• 4:23
  blind person astray on the road and all the people will reply.
• 4:27
  Amen. Cursed is anyone who denies
• 4:31
  justice to foreigners, orphans or widows, and all the people
• 4:35
  will reply, Amen. Cursed is anyone who has sexual
• 4:40
  intercourse with one of his father's wives, for he has
• 4:42
  violated his father and all the people will reply Amen.
• 4:49
  Cursed is anyone who has sexual intercourse with an animal and
• 4:52
  all the people will reply Amen. Cursed is anyone who has sexual
• 4:58
  intercourse with his sister, whether she is the daughter of
• 5:02
  his father or his mother, and all the people will reply Amen.

  Cursed is anyone who has sexual intercourse with his mother in
• 5:11
  law and all the people will reply Amen.
• 5:16
  Curse it is anyone who attacks a neighbour in secret and all the
• 5:21
  people will reply Amen. Curse it is anyone who accepts
• 5:26
  payment to kill an innocent person and all the people will
• 5:30
  reply Amen. Curse it is anyone who does not
• 5:35
  affirm and obey the terms of these instructions, and all the
• 5:41
  people will reply, Amen. Jesus, thank you for coming into
• 5:57
  this world, for saving us, and for creating a new covenant
• 6:03
  where there is love and forgiveness and it is your
• 6:06
  righteousness that just covers over all of our wrongdoings.
• 6:12
  Lord, I pray that in our lives, even though you have saved us,
• 6:16
  no matter how broken our attempts are to live according
• 6:20
  to Your ways, that you inspire us to worship you and to worship
• 6:25
  You alone. And as that worship, not just
• 6:30
  singing songs to You, but Lord, that that worship would shape
• 6:33
  our entire life and that our hearts would permanently have a
• 6:38
  posture of worship toward You, our wonderful God who blesses us
• 6:43
  and loves us so wholeheartedly and unconditionally.
• 6:48
  You are good to us, and we thank You and we praise you, placing
• 6:53
  you high above every other name. And it's in your name that we
• 6:57
  pray, Jesus, Amen.
