- 0:15Without further ado, we begin hello to everyone. My name is Damian
- 0:22and what I will tell you next. I do so in the hope that
- 0:26my story will not be repeated, hoping that whoever hears it will not make
- 0:31the same mistakes that I made. I remember that night as if it were
- 0:37yesterday, although many years have passed since then, it was Halloween day,
- 0:41a date that my friends and I looked forward to every year, as it
- 0:46was our favorite holiday. That year, however, was the last time I
- 0:50had that party. I was 15 years old. Back then I lived with
- 0:56my parents and my younger brother. Eleven- year- old Dante. Our
- 1:00parents were the kind of people who believed money was everything, so they spent
- 1:04most of the day working. They used to leave the house at seven in
- 1:10the morning and didn' t come back until after ten in the evening.
- 1:15That left me as the one responsible for taking care of my younger brother.
- 1:19I can' t deny that it was an overwhelming responsibility for a teenager,
- 1:26especially because my parents seemed to trust me too much and didn' t seem
- 1:30to worry about anything but the financial part. I was in charge of waking
- 1:34Dante up to school. I made sure he did his homework and sometimes even
- 1:38attended his school meetings instead. All that while trying to keep me up to
- 1:46date with my own studies and responsibilities. The relationship with my brother was complicated.
- 1:52I can' t blame him for anything he lived through back then,
- 1:56but at the time he felt a certain resentment towards him. No or r
- 1:59R. It wasn' t fair to him and I know it now that
- 2:02I' m older, but at the time I couldn' t help it.
- 2:07On halloween day, my friends had been talking for days about a party
- 2:10that would take place on an abandoned property. The property was owned by the
- 2:15father of one of my friends and the idea of a party in an abandoned
- 2:21house excited us all. However, I knew I couldn' t leave you
- 2:24alone at home. Our neighborhood wasn' t the safest and if anything happened
- 2:30to it, I was sure my parents would go crazy. That' s
- 2:36when I came up with the idea of taking him to the party with me.
- 2:38After all, dante was a quiet child and used to be easily entertained
- 2:44with my phone. I could stay in a corner while I was having fun
- 2:47with my friends and we could come back before our parents came home so they
- 2:53wouldn' t find out about our getaway. Everything seemed pretty simple. I
- 2:58told n n n about the party and to my surprise, he agreed to
- 3:01come with me. He seemed excited about the idea of being at a Halloween
- 3:07party with older guys, and that made me feel a little less guilty about
- 3:12dragging him with me. We prepare for the party and after making sure we
- 3:17have everything we need, we head towards the abandoned property. I remember it
- 3:24took us a while to find the property, but when we did, my
- 3:29friends were already there laughing and joking as they prepared to enter the house.
- 3:34Dante was holding on to my hand hard. I noticed he was scared,
- 3:38but I tried to reassure him by telling him everything would be fine. We
- 3:44explored the house for a while laughing and joking as we frightened each other with
- 3:50ghost stories and dante apparitions kept close to me At all times this faked courage,
- 3:55but I knew that inside I was scared to death. We finally stayed
- 4:00in one of the rooms and set out to just have a good time.
- 4:05Time passed and everything seemed to be fine, even dante seemed to be having
- 4:11a little fun. Which calmed me down. However, my peace of mind
- 4:15faded when one of the guests pulled a daughter board out of his backpack,
- 4:19suggesting that things might become more interesting. All those present at the party began
- 4:26to support the idea, eager to experiment with the board. Although I did
- 4:31not often believe in such things, I had always had a little respect for
- 4:36them. Besides, when I looked at Dante, I could see the fear
- 4:41reflected in his eyes. I wasn' t sure I wanted to participate,
- 4:46but I didn' t want to look like a coward in front of my
- 4:49friends either, so I decided to play along. The other guys turned off
- 4:53the lamps they had turned on to be there, leaving us only under the
- 4:58faint light of the candles they lit to give more atmosphere to the game,
- 5:01so we started playing by asking questions to the board, which only seemed to
- 5:09give vague answers. At first, it all seemed like a farce. I
- 5:12was sure the guy holding the pointer was moving him to play a joke on
- 5:16everyone. But then the temperature began to drop abruptly and the board pointer began
- 5:24to move unsettlingly, repeating the word over and over again. Only the candlelights
- 5:30began to move strangely and a gust of cold wind passed through the room,
- 5:35freezing our bones and sending chills down our spine. A cry that seemed like
- 5:44agony broke the air and everyone present at the party ran away in panic.
- 5:50I grabbed Dante' s hand and tried to keep him close as we ran
- 5:56into the crowd of terrified kids. But in a moment the sun was ons
- 6:00and I lost sight. The darkness was so dense that I could see nothing
- 6:03beyond a few meters in front of me. I wanted to believe he was
- 6:09still running with the group, but I couldn' t be sure. Finally,
- 6:13when we got off the property, I realized Dante wasn' t among
- 6:16us. My heart sank into my chest as I realized that I had disappeared.
- 6:23I knew I should go back inside and look for him, but none
- 6:27of the other guys were willing to go back into that house. My supposed
- 6:31friends began to disperse to return home. Leaving me alone for a moment I
- 6:38felt paralyzed by fear, but then the instinct to protect my brother made me
- 6:43overcome it and I knew that I had no choice but to go back inside
- 6:48and find him at any cost. The cold, wet air hit me in
- 6:53the face. When I entered the house again, the darkness was overwhelming.
- 6:57Wrapping me up like a cold blanket and it' s a thick mistake,
- 7:01I didn' t remember the house feeling that way. The first time I
- 7:03entered I was cautiously advancing through the dark corridors, calling Dante' s name
- 7:09over and over again. The echo of my words resonated in the darkness,
- 7:14but there was no answer from my brother. I felt a knot in my
- 7:17throat as I walked through every room and hallway. My steps resounded on the
- 7:21floor, creating a rather gloomy echo. I kept calling my brother desperately waiting
- 7:29to hear his answer in the dark. Then a sound broke the suffocating silence,
- 7:35causing my heart to stop in the chest. The sound of rusty old
- 7:40metals, falling to the ground, resonated around me, filling the air with
- 7:45a sense of danger. Fear took hold of me, but the idea that
- 7:48that noise might have been caused by my brother prompted me to move on.
- 7:55I moved on to where the noise had come and there, squatting, I
- 8:00found my brother trembling and frightened a relief. He invaded me when I saw
- 8:05him, and I ran to him, holding him by the shoulder with trembling
- 8:07hands. I asked him to stand up to get out of that place I
- 8:11questioned him if he was okay, but he seemed so scared that he didn
- 8:16' t utter a single word. He got up slowly and I took his
- 8:20hand to get him to the exit. However, in doing so, I
- 8:24noticed that it was freezing. It was as if it had been submerged in
- 8:28cold water for hours. I attributed the feeling of cold to the freezing temperature
- 8:33of the room. I decided not to pay much attention to him at that
- 8:39time, knowing that we should leave before our parents returned home. So I
- 8:43squeezed your hand hard and led you out in the hope of leaving that nightmare
- 8:48behind. Finally we arrived home, where we received the warm light from the
- 8:56living room and the comforting smell of microwave pizza that warms up as soon as
- 9:00we arrive. My parents had not yet returned, which meant that we had
- 9:05time to recover before they arrived. I had Dante sit on the couch and
- 9:11I made him a cup of tea trying to warm his frozen hands as he
- 9:16sank into the lost seat in his own thoughts. I sat next to him
- 9:22feeling the weight of the world on my shoulders, remembering the terrible things we
- 9:28had witnessed in that house. I explained to him further that our parents could
- 9:33never find out what we had experienced that night. He had always been a
- 9:37quiet boy, but at that time he seemed completely out of himself. Still,
- 9:43he went on to say that he wouldn' t say anything that relieved
- 9:48me a little bit with that clear between us both headed to sleep after dinner.
- 9:52In the middle of the morning, however, I woke up feeling that
- 9:58someone was watching the light from the street posts leaking out the window. It
- 10:03allowed me to see you at the foot of my bed. He was dressed
- 10:07in his pajamas and seemed to stare at me. That puzzled me, since
- 10:13it wasn' t something he used to do. I asked him what was
- 10:16wrong with him, but he simply replied that he was very afraid. I
- 10:20fully understood the reason for your fear. After all, I was a little
- 10:24scared, too, so I let him get into bed with me. I
- 10:31tried to fall asleep again, but one of my hands touched the dante that
- 10:35was as cold as ice. That alerted me and asked him if he was
- 10:39feeling well, but again I did not get an answer. I got up
- 10:43a little bit to look at the best and that' s when I saw
- 10:48her eyes open, but they seemed to be completely black and her face seemed
- 10:54strange. That made me immediately get out of bed, screaming and drawing Mr.
- 11:00Our parents. They came to see what was happening and when my father
- 11:03lit the light, I could see you looking at me with his perfectly normal
- 11:09eyes and face. My parents asked me what was going on and I lied
- 11:13to them saying I had had a nightmare. After all, I thought I
- 11:18might have seen bad because of the little light, although a part of me
- 11:22was uneasy about that explanation. The feeling of seeing my brother' s black
- 11:28eyes and his strange face continued to disturb me and fill me with a deep
- 11:33restlessness that I could not ignore. We went to bed again, but this
- 11:37time I couldn' t get Dante' s image back to sleep, with
- 11:43his black eyes and his strange face engraved on my mind. Chasing me in
- 11:46my thoughts, I couldn' t shake the feeling that something strange had happened.
- 11:52As the days passed, I tried to forget what I had seen,
- 11:56to convince myself that everything had been a producer of my imagination, but every
- 12:01time I looked at Dante I couldn' t help but feel a chill running
- 12:05around my back. I couldn' t explain the reason, only that his
- 12:09presence alone made me feel a mixture of nervousness and fear. I could notice
- 12:15that my brother had changed a lot He was no longer the same shy,
- 12:20loving boy he used to be. He was now just staring into nothingness as
- 12:24if he was lost in his own thoughts and many times when he thought he
- 12:31was not listening to it, he seemed to begin to speak alone, murmuring
- 12:37incomprehensible words in a low and chilling tone. All that, along with the
- 12:41fact that since that day of the Halloween party dante never seemed to have a
- 12:46normal temperature, was always cold, as if it were ice cream inside.
- 12:52I tried to talk to my parents about my concerns, but they just said
- 12:56that he was growing up and that it was normal to notice cano in his
- 13:01behavior. However, something was not right for me. There was something about
- 13:07the way Dante behaved, the way he seemed to be losing contact with reality
- 13:11every day. I was worried about him, about what might be going on
- 13:18in his mind, if all that wasn' t enough. Neighbors' pets
- 13:22began to mysteriously disappear. At first it didn' t seem relevant to me,
- 13:30just a curious fact that didn' t attract much attention. But one
- 13:33day, while I kept Dante' s clothes, I found something that made
- 13:39me stop dry between his things, I found several dog collars, some even
- 13:46seemed to have reddish spots, It was like I was keeping them as trophies,
- 13:50as if they were memories of something I had done. I shuddered at
- 13:54thinking about what that might mean, what my brother might be doing. I
- 14:00didn' t want to believe that Dante would be able to hurt the animals,
- 14:05but I couldn' t ignore the evidence in front of me that I
- 14:07could do most. I had tried to talk to my parents, but they
- 14:13didn' t believe me. Now I was facing a difficult decision between a
- 14:16confrontation or continuing in denial. Part of me wanted to face Dante directly,
- 14:22confront him about his strange behaviors and the disturbing evidence he had found, but
- 14:30another part of me was afraid that it would only make things worse, that
- 14:35it could drive him further away. I decided I needed to better understand what
- 14:39was going on with him. Before I took any drastic action, I began
- 14:43to observe as closely as possible, trying to understand that I was disturbing him
- 14:48so much and that I was leading him to behave that way. I noticed
- 14:54that he spent a lot of time alone in his room, often with the
- 14:58door locked and not wanting to be disturbed. Sometimes I heard him whispering incomprehensible
- 15:01words, as if he was talking to himself or someone I couldn' t
- 15:07see. I also noticed that it avoided physical contact, as if it was
- 15:13preventing someone from touching it. His hands were always cold, even on the
- 15:16warmest days, and he seemed hostile to the idea of letting someone get too
- 15:20close I felt powerless in the face of the situation. I didn' t
- 15:28know how to get close to him or how to talk to him I was
- 15:33thinking about how to make him understand that he was there to help him and
- 15:37I was wondering if I should look for professional help, talk to a therapist
- 15:41or a doctor who could understand what was going on with him. But before
- 15:43I could make a decision, life took it for me, because something happened
- 15:46that would change everything. One night, while I was asleep in my room,
- 15:52I was awakened by a noise coming from Dante' s room. This
- 15:56was a soft, but persistent sound, as in the form of a barely
- 16:00audible whisper. I got out of bed and approached his door with my heart
- 16:04beating hard. When I opened the door, I came across a scene that
- 16:11left me breathless. Dante was sitting in the middle of the room, staring
- 16:15at the wall with empty eyes and an unexpressive face. He seemed to repeat
- 16:22the same words over and over again, as if it were an infinite loop.
- 16:27I tried to understand what he was saying. However, he seemed to
- 16:32be speaking in a language he was completely unaware of. At that moment I
- 16:36knew I couldn' t stand by. I had to do something to help
- 16:41my brother. I approached him to move him out of that trance state.
- 16:47However, in doing so, he stopped speaking to stare at me and could
- 16:52notice the fury in his gaze I did not know how to react to it.
- 16:56It was certainly something I was not prepared for, so, without nr
- 16:59I just let go and went to my room remembering all that. I wish
- 17:04I had acted better. Two nights later, while I was sleeping deeply,
- 17:11I felt a presence watching me, slowly opened my eyes and saw my brother
- 17:15standing at the foot of my bed. With her pajamas barely visible in the
- 17:18dark. The street light pole had melted a few days ago, so the
- 17:22room was plunged into almost total darkness. He could only distinguish the silhouette from
- 17:30his figure in the shadow. I called him several times asking him what was
- 17:36wrong with him, but I didn' t get any answers. I felt
- 17:38a knot of fear twisting in my stomach. While I was wondering what was
- 17:44going on with him I temptfully reached my phone and lit it by lighting up
- 17:48the room. What I saw filled me with horror. My brother' s
- 17:52face was deformed before my eyes, twisting into a diabolical and inhuman grimace.
- 17:57I had a demonic smile that iced my blood and his eyes shone with an
- 18:03evil light that left me paralysed with fear. Before I could react, my
- 18:08brother clapped over me, covering my mouth with his frozen hand. I was
- 18:14surprised how strong I was and struggled to get rid of his grip, but
- 18:18it was as if I was fighting a supernatural force in a moment of despair.
- 18:23He whispered in my ear with a voice that smelled my blood. I
- 18:26am no longer alone in his breath smelled of sulfur and before he could do
- 18:33anything else, he let me go and ran out of the room, leaving
- 18:37me trembling with fear. In the dark, I jumped up and ran after
- 18:41him, but when I got to the door, I could only see him
- 18:45disappearing in the darkness of the street. My parents, alerted by the sound
- 18:51of the door opening, came running towards me wondering what had happened. I
- 18:56couldn' t contain myself any more and told them everything, from the night
- 19:00of the Halloween party to the terrifying encounter I had just had with my brother.
- 19:06However, my parents completely ignored the paranormal part of my story and called
- 19:11the police to find dante. But despite all his efforts, he was never
- 19:15found. Since then I have lived with the terror of not knowing what happened
- 19:22to my brother, of not knowing what came home with me, since I
- 19:26am convinced that whatever came back that night was no longer my brother. There
- 19:37are moments and decisions in life that we would often wish to return in time
- 19:44to do things differently in this way, but, for the misfortune of all,
- 19:48life does not work this way and you must always bear the consequences of
- 19:52your actions. A lesson I learned from a very young age and not in
- 19:57a good way. It all started on a hot Easter vacation afternoon. After
- 20:04our water balloon pranks were abruptly interrupted, we found ourselves not knowing what to
- 20:10do. Suggestions for games and activities were rejected until Carlos, the group'
- 20:17s largest boy, proposed the idea of visiting the abandoned church. The mere
- 20:22mention of the church generated a buzz of emotion among us, although we were
- 20:27too young to have seen it in its glory. The stories about that place
- 20:32were legendary in our village. It was said that it was built on cursed
- 20:37ground and that since the first day it had been plagued with strange phenomena,
- 20:44things like shadows moving on the walls cold air even on the hottest days,
- 20:48and the accounts about the appearance of a woman in white were just some of
- 20:52the stories told about that place. But the story that always set the hairs
- 20:59on anyone listening to it was that of Sacristan Doroteo. Doroteo was an older
- 21:04man who used to be in charge of keeping the church in order and who
- 21:08often mocked the stories about the place, ensuring that they were nonsense and that
- 21:14his faith in Christ protected him from any evil. One night, however,
- 21:19while cleaning, the Church heard noises coming from the bell tower and apparently decided
- 21:26to investigate and climb the stairs and what she found up there no one knows
- 21:30for sure, but the next day, her body was discovered with an expression
- 21:36of terror engraved on her face. After his death, the church was closed
- 21:41and abandoned. Our parents were strictly forbidden to play around, as they said
- 21:47it was dangerous because of the old structures, but that did not stop our
- 21:52childish curiosity. That day, with emotion and fear in the air, we
- 21:56venture into the Church. Despite the warnings and doubt of some. Charles'
- 22:03enthusiasm dragged us all to the Church. When we arrived we stopped in front
- 22:08of their old wooden doors. The details were architectural, though covered with moss
- 22:15and dust, they were still impressive. The lock that closed the door was
- 22:19so old that it was enough to move it a little to open and with
- 22:23a creak. The doors opened slowly before us as if the same structure were
- 22:29inviting us in. The interior was wrapped in shadows barely illuminated by the rays
- 22:36of light that filtered through broken windows. The air was filled with a smell
- 22:41of moisture and dust and the silence was overwhelming. We' re moving cautiously
- 22:47down the main hallway. Our steps resounded on the stone floor. The wooden
- 22:52benches were covered with dust and cobwebs and the broken stained glass windows let in
- 22:57flashes of multicolored light. As we explored, I could feel the tension growing
- 23:03between us and even though none of us wanted to admit it, we were
- 23:08all scared to death of being there. As we approached the bell tower,
- 23:14the atmosphere seemed to become more oppressive. The wooden stairs creaked under our feet
- 23:18as we climbed and each step was filled with a sense of fear. Finally,
- 23:23we arrived at the door leading to the bell tower and with a collective
- 23:29sigh we pushed her. What we found on the other side disappointed us a
- 23:33little, as it looked like any bell tower barely illuminated by the light leaking
- 23:40through the slits of the walls. Luckily, some of us were carrying flashlights.
- 23:47Suddenly, a sinister sound resonated around us. My friends and I looked
- 23:52at each other nervously wondering what the hell could be causing that noise. But
- 23:57before we could even be a theory, the atmosphere suddenly changed. Suddenly in
- 24:04the middle of the darkness, one of my friends screamed a terrifying scream,
- 24:08scaring us all. That fear dissipated when we realized it was just a joke,
- 24:15although we all began to laugh we were still nervous about the tension that
- 24:19had filled the air. While we were trying to recover from that scare,
- 24:26Carlos called us to get closer to where he was. When we arrived with
- 24:30him we saw what had caught his attention. A dusty daughter board on the
- 24:34floor with traces of candle wax all around her. I remember clearly as a
- 24:41chill. He toured my back when he saw her, for he had heard
- 24:45many stories about that cursed artifact, and none of them was comforting. I
- 24:49could see in the faces of my friends who shared my restlessness. When looking
- 24:53at the board on the floor. Carlos, trying to sound brave as ever,
- 24:59took it and suggested that it probably belonged to his older brother or one
- 25:03of his friends. He claimed that his brother used to go there all the
- 25:07time. Although his explanation seemed true, the mere fact of having that board
- 25:12in our hands was disturbing. Someone in the group questioned whether he knew how
- 25:18to play what Carlos immediately claimed he did. Some of us began to incite
- 25:25him to prove it and, although he seemed to doubt it, it was
- 25:29obvious that he did not want to retract his words, so with a feigned
- 25:33value, he shook the table and placed the pointer before uttering the expected words.
- 25:37There' s someone there. For a few moments nothing happened. The
- 25:42heavy silence hovered over us while we waited for an answer. But then the
- 25:49pointer began to move toward the position of itself. Many of us accused Carlos
- 25:55of moving him, but he swore he hadn' t. We all distrusted
- 25:59his words and called him a liar. Suddenly, a chill swept through my
- 26:06spine when I felt a cold and oppressive presence in the room. The hairs
- 26:11on the back of my neck stood as I looked around for some sign of
- 26:15what was happening, but all I could see was the daughter board on the
- 26:19ground with my heart. Beating hard, I looked at my friends looking for
- 26:27comfort in their pale, sweaty faces, but what I found was the reflection
- 26:32of my own fear. I could not ignore the feeling that we had unleashed
- 26:37forces beyond our control. As the child table pointer kept moving and pointing at
- 26:42unknown answers. In the dark I knew we were in an unknown territory.
- 26:49The presence in the room intensified, enveloping us all in an aura of terror.
- 26:55Just when I thought I couldn' t get more disturbing, the rras
- 26:59started to sound with a deafening force. The sound was so overwhelming that I
- 27:04had to cover my ears to protect myself from noise and, in case that
- 27:10wasn' t enough, the lamps of everything went out. At the same
- 27:14time, the atmosphere became suffocating to such an extent that none of us could
- 27:19stand it any more we ran outside the bell tower. The light that used
- 27:22to filter through the broken glass had completely disappeared, leaving us in the dark.
- 27:30While we were running. I could only hear the short breaths of my
- 27:36friends and the echo of our hasty steps. At one point I realized I
- 27:41couldn' t hear my friends behind me anymore. I wondered why, but
- 27:45I didn' t stop to find out. I went on desperate to escape
- 27:49from that cursed place. Suddenly I found myself in front of a door.
- 27:56I figured it was the exit and I tried to open it, but it
- 28:00was locked in the face. When I stopped trying to open it and stood
- 28:03still in the dark, I heard what seemed to be pitiful tears coming from
- 28:08behind the door and in that I felt a hand on my shoulder and gave
- 28:12a choked scream of surprise. I turned to see who it was and I
- 28:17could see Carlos, who insisted on coming out of there I nodded, grateful
- 28:22that I was not alone at that terrifying moment. We both left the church
- 28:26to meet the rest of my friends outside. They were all visibly agitated and
- 28:33trembling, but none of them wanted to mention anything we had experienced within the
- 28:38abandoned church. We knew that we could not tell anyone about our forbidden excursion
- 28:45in that place and, besides, who would believe us while we were away
- 28:51from the church. I couldn' t get out of my head the sound
- 28:53of that pitiful cry behind the closed door, but I decided to keep that
- 28:59detail to myself and be r or r trying not to scare my friends any
- 29:03more, not knowing that the nightmare was just beginning. For me. When
- 29:07we got home, everything seemed normal. My parents didn' t even seem
- 29:12to have noticed my absence, which reassured me a little bit and after dinner,
- 29:17I decided to take a bath to relax after the terrifying experience. As
- 29:22I washed my hair and closed my eyes to soap me, I heard a
- 29:27slight snap that made me open my eyes at once. To my surprise,
- 29:30the bathroom was in the dark. My heart was beating hard on my chest.
- 29:37While trying to understand what was happening. I heard my mother scream from
- 29:42the outside that the light was gone, but that didn' t reassure me
- 29:47at all. Then, to my ears came the sound of the pitiful weeping
- 29:52I had heard in the church. The crying began to increase in intensity and
- 29:56thanks to the light of the moon that leaked through the window, I could
- 30:00distinguish a silhouette on the other side of the curtain from the shower looked like
- 30:04the figure of a hooded man with his shoulders bent and a sinister presence.
- 30:11Fear invaded me, making me tremble from head to toe. However, full
- 30:15of courage, I approached the curtain and pushed it away with a sudden movement,
- 30:21but in doing so I found that there was no one there. I
- 30:25looked around confused and frightened. While trying to understand what had just happened,
- 30:32as he sought the light, he returned flooding the bathroom with his comforting glow.
- 30:37It allowed me to see more clearly that I was alone in the room.
- 30:41I tried to calm myself by telling myself that I was only suggested by
- 30:47everything that had happened that night in church. I decided to finish my bath
- 30:52as quickly as possible and leave feeling the weight of fear of a clinging to
- 30:57my back. Every shadow seemed to come alive in the dark and every little
- 31:02noise scared me to death. But I repeated to myself that everything was the
- 31:06product of my imagination, a natural reaction after an experience as frightening as the
- 31:12one I had just lived. When I finally came out of the bathroom and
- 31:18went to my room, I tried to leave behind the disturbing thoughts that haunted
- 31:22me. I got into bed and closed my eyes, hoping the dream would
- 31:26take me. Away from those dark and terrifying memories. The darkness enveloped my
- 31:33room when I finally closed my eyes, but my mind was still tormented by
- 31:37the disturbing images and sounds of the abandoned church. In addition to what had
- 31:42just happened to me in the bathroom, I tried to remove those thoughts from
- 31:48my mind by focusing on the tranquility of my room and the warmth of my
- 31:52bed. But as time went by, I realized something wasn' t right.
- 31:57A feeling of restlessness gripped me as if I was being watched by something
- 32:01dark and evil in the darkness of my room. I turned around in bed
- 32:07desperately looking for a source of comfort, but all I found was a sense
- 32:13of oppression and fear. Then, suddenly, I heard a faint, chilling
- 32:20whisper right next to my ear. I froze in my place, feeling a
- 32:24chill crawling through my body as I tried to figure out where that sound came
- 32:30from. My hands clung to the Sheets with force and my heart began to
- 32:35beat with alarming intensity. The whisper grew louder and I soon realized that I
- 32:40was filling the whole room with his presence. I tried to block him,
- 32:46to keep him away from my mind, but he seemed to follow me wherever
- 32:50I went. Then I began to hear again the pitiful weeping that had resounded
- 32:57in the church. The sound filled me with an indescribable sense of dread,
- 33:00as if I was being dragged back into those moments of terror and despair.
- 33:07Desperate to get rid of that nightmare, I got out of bed and ran
- 33:12to the door of my room. My hands were shaking as I grabbed the
- 33:16crock of the door, feeling the urge to escape from that darkness. Suffocating
- 33:22with a sharp twist, I opened the door and ran down the hallway.
- 33:24I didn' t even know where I was going, because I just knew
- 33:30I wanted to get out of my room. I was walking down the hall
- 33:34when suddenly I felt a presence behind me and when I turned around. It
- 33:38was when I saw him a dark, hooded figure materialized in front of me
- 33:44with empty eyes fixed on mine. A scream got stuck in my throat.
- 33:47As I receded feeling a paralyzing fear taking over my body. The figure approached
- 33:54me and though I tried to retreat and escape his gaze or s R.
- 33:59S or Pies seemed to be stuck to the ground, I felt trapped and
- 34:04helpless. Before that entity. It was then that the entity took off the
- 34:08hood, revealing a face that seemed to come from the same hell, lifeless
- 34:14eyes and an elongated face with sharp teeth that made me turn back with horror.
- 34:19His empty eyes seemed to penetrate into the depths of my soul, filling
- 34:24my body with indescribable terror. As I struggled to process what I saw a
- 34:30scream. He finally escaped from my throat, breaking the silence that had enveloped
- 34:35the room, alerting my parents, who came quickly, but when they came
- 34:40to where I was, they found the room empty. Only me standing in
- 34:45the middle, trembling with fear and confusion. I tried to explain to them
- 34:51what I had seen, the deformed face and the dark presence that had stalked
- 34:55me in the darkness of the hallway, but my words seemed to fall into
- 35:00deaf ears, as my parents attributed my experience to a simple nightmare. They
- 35:06tried to reassure me that everything was fine and that it had only been the
- 35:12product of my imagination. However, deep down in my being I knew that
- 35:15what I had experienced had been real. The sense of terror and despair I
- 35:22had felt could not have been just a dream. But I resigned myself to
- 35:27keep my thoughts to myself, knowing that it would be useless to try to
- 35:31convince my parents otherwise. The next day, while meeting my friends, I
- 35:37decided to question him about his experiences after leaving the abandoned church. But everyone
- 35:44denied seeing or feeling anything out of the ordinary. After leaving, I felt
- 35:47confused and frustrated, wondering why he seemed to be the only one that entity
- 35:53had followed. As the days passed, the memory of that terrifying night mer
- 35:59continued to torment and fill with persistent fear that could not shake. Each shadow
- 36:05seemed to hide the threat of that dark entity and every sound made me jump
- 36:09out of fear. Over time, my quality of life began to be significantly
- 36:15affected. My nights became an endless nightmare, plagued by terrifying encounters. With
- 36:22the spirit of the sacristan that seemed to have adhered to me every time I
- 36:28closed my eyes, I found myself facing him, feeling his cold breath in
- 36:32my neck as I struggled to escape his mortal embrace. Insomnia took over me,
- 36:37denying me the restful rest I needed so much. My days became a
- 36:44haze of fatigue and anxiety, as I struggled to stay awake and function in
- 36:49the outside world. The food became tasteless in my mouth and hunger became a
- 36:53constant company. My mother, worried about my condition, decided to take me
- 37:00to the village healer for help. From the moment I set foot in his
- 37:05humble abode, I knew that I was standing in front of someone who understood
- 37:09the dark forces that stalked me, for with a simple glance, the healer
- 37:15knew that I had played with things that I should not and that I had
- 37:20brought the attention of an evil spirit that had adhered to me. The healer
- 37:22performed several clean and protective rituals, trying to free me from the dark influence
- 37:29that had consumed me. However, as the days progressed, it became clear
- 37:34that the spirit had no intention of leaving me so easily it seemed to cling
- 37:38to me with unrelenting force, patiently waiting for its opportunity to claim my soul.
- 37:45The only thing the healer could do for me was give me some protective
- 37:50amulets, little relics that hoped to give me a shield against the dark forces
- 37:55around me. I held on to them in despair or waiting for them to
- 38:00be enough to keep the sacristan and his sinister company at bay. In time
- 38:06I learned to live with the shadows that haunted me constantly. I learned to
- 38:12recognize the signs of their presence and to protect myself from their attacks. As
- 38:15I grew older, I realized that this was my destiny, living in the
- 38:20shadows of that unfortunate sacristan, waiting for the moment when I made a fatal
- 38:24mistake that will finally allow me to claim my soul forever. My name is
- 38:37Javier and what I will tell you today is a chapter in my life which,
- 38:42despite the fact that I tried to forget me, is impossible to do.
- 38:45And I remember that night as if it had happened yesterday. Although years
- 38:49have passed since then, the images and sensations are still as fresh in my
- 38:54mind as something recent. Back then I was just a ten- year-
- 39:00old boy, shy and introverted with an older sister who seemed to live in
- 39:06a world completely different from mine. That night of nightmare began with our grandfather
- 39:09’ s sudden illness, which led my mother to leave the house to take
- 39:14care of him in the hospital. That' s how my sister and I
- 39:17were left alone at home. A situation that would normally only have made me
- 39:22feel anxious, became the most terrifying experience of my life. My sister,
- 39:28five years older than me and very distant in terms of personality, decided to
- 39:32take advantage of my mother’ s absence to arrange a sleepover with her friends.
- 39:37For her it was an exciting opportunity to have a night without adult supervision,
- 39:44but for me it was a frightening prospect. I was always the kind
- 39:49of kid they rated as sensitive, which is why I had no friends,
- 39:53which made the idea of being alone with a group of older girls more than
- 39:58intimidating. My sister' s friends started arriving around six o' clock in
- 40:04the afternoon, all radiant with excitement from the prospect of a fun night without
- 40:08parents. My sister ordered me to go to my room and not disturb them
- 40:13during the night. However, I didn' t want to stay alone in
- 40:16my room all night, so I just ignored my sister and stayed there.
- 40:22The last one to arrive was Laura, a girl with a mysterious look,
- 40:27in a gothic style, who, in my opinion, always carried with her
- 40:31a disturbing energy. The girls murmured among themselves, exchanging nervous glances and laughter
- 40:37as they talked about something I did not understand intrigued. I started asking questions,
- 40:44but I was completely ignored. My sister looked at me with disdain and
- 40:49again ordered me to retire to my room, warning me not to disturb them.
- 40:53However, my curiosity was too strong to be ignored. I kept insisting
- 41:00on getting answers until finally my sister gave herself a tone of contempt and told
- 41:05me they would play the run that night. My eyes were wide open before
- 41:08that revelation, as I was beginning to see images of horror films that I
- 41:15had seen before. I knew the daughter was more than just a game,
- 41:21which was surrounded by chilling stories and legends. After telling me that, the
- 41:28girls noticed my fear and began to laugh questioning whether I really believed in ghosts,
- 41:35so, trying to look tough and brave, I told them that I
- 41:37didn' t believe in ghosts and that I had even played with the getaway
- 41:43many times with my friends. At that time I thought I was cheating on
- 41:46everyone, but now, with an adult' s perspective, I realize I
- 41:51wasn' t cheating on anyone but myself. The girls, listening to my
- 41:57statement, decided that if I had played before, then I could be there
- 42:01with them and even though I didn' t want to participate in the game
- 42:07of the huija, I felt trapped by my own words and I couldn'
- 42:10t back down. While the girls prepared everything, from candles, incense and
- 42:15even a bell like the ones I had seen in spiritist sessions on television.
- 42:21Miñedo increased with every minute that passed. I tried to think of an excuse
- 42:25to go to my room, I even resented my sister sending me back to
- 42:30my room, but for my bad luck, none of that happened. When
- 42:35everything was ready, Laura pulled out of her backpack a wooden board daughter looked
- 42:40rudimentary and gloomy as if it had been handmade. Laura claimed that the board
- 42:46belonged to her grandfather, who was a Satanist and claimed to speak to the
- 42:51dead. Thanks to her, with a chill, I walked around my back,
- 42:55sat down with the girls around the table. My sister showed the candles
- 43:00and turned off the light, allowing only the blinking light of the candles to
- 43:05illuminate the room. Then the session began with shaky fingers. I put my
- 43:10hands on the board or daughter along with the other girls. A feeling of
- 43:15static electricity seemed to fill the room while we waited quietly. The atmosphere was
- 43:22charged with tension and every movement of the daughter board was closely followed. The
- 43:27questions were asked one after the other and the answers we received were ambiguous and
- 43:31meaningless. To tell you the truth. Still, fear gripped me, as
- 43:36the girls continued to ask questions about the supposed spirit we had invoked. Each
- 43:43response seemed more disturbing than the previous one, and my heart was pounding in
- 43:47my chest as I struggled to contain the panic that threatened to consume me I
- 43:54thought we had finally reached the end of our supernatural activities. But then one
- 44:00of my sister' s friends, named Hannah, suggested that that was boring
- 44:05and that it would be best to summon a specific spirit, mentioning someone named
- 44:09Don José. Once again, I felt completely lost and confused, having no
- 44:15idea who that Don José was they were talking about. As the girls began
- 44:22to laugh and agree with the idea of contacting this spirit, Hanna noticed my
- 44:25confusion and decided to tell me the story of Don José. According to her,
- 44:31this man had lived many years ago and was the owner of much of
- 44:36the neighborhood we were now in. In those days, the area was nothing
- 44:40more than a green field where cows and sheep were grazing. Don José was
- 44:45known for being extremely stingy and cranky and no one wanted to approach him.
- 44:52He did not hire anyone to help him take care of his animals, which
- 44:55he often mistreated and beat. Many times they kill the hungry for days.
- 45:01One day, as he fed his pigs, Don José slipped and could not
- 45:06get up. Because of their advanced age, hungry pigs began to eat it
- 45:12and no one could hear their cries for help. When finally someone decided to
- 45:16go and see what had happened, they found his body half devoured and disfigured.
- 45:22The scariest thing was his face, which had been devoured until it was
- 45:28unrecognizable. Don José' s death had been appalling and it was said that
- 45:31he could still see himself walking through the neighborhood, seeking to replenish the parts
- 45:37of his body that had been torn from him. Don José' s story
- 45:40left me completely terrified. I wished I could go to my room at the
- 45:46same time, but I knew I had no valid excuse to leave, so
- 45:51I was forced to stay there. While the girls were preparing to summon Don
- 45:55José, I felt a knot in my stomach and a cold iced cold ran
- 46:00through my spine. My hands were shaking as I waited for the beginning of
- 46:06the next session, praying in silence that it would all end soon and I
- 46:12could escape that living nightmare. The candlelight blinked as the girls began their invocation.
- 46:17Every word resounded in the room filled with dark and sinister energy that made
- 46:22me tremble with fear. I closed my eyes hard, wishing to be anywhere
- 46:28but there, facing the horror that was coming. Suddenly, the candles went
- 46:34out by submerging the room in complete darkness. My eyes were wide open in
- 46:39the face of that sudden change and just then, the lights of the spotlight
- 46:44began to turn on and off intermittently, casting shadows all over the room.
- 46:51The girls began to look scared, exchanging nervous looks among themselves. It was
- 46:59then that the shaky voice said out loud that if Don José was in that
- 47:04room he should give a signal and at that moment three strong blows were heard
- 47:08from inside a small room, which served as a cellar. The blows echoed
- 47:15in the room stronger and more persistent, causing a chill that swept my body
- 47:22from head to toe. Another of my sister' s friends got up with
- 47:28determination and approached the cellar door. I looked at her with my eyes disorbited,
- 47:35feeling a mixture of terror and curiosity that threatened to overwhelm me. When
- 47:38he finally opened the door, a figure emerged from the shadows screaming in a
- 47:44frightful way. The figure wore a white mask that concealed his face and ran
- 47:50directly to where I was sitting screaming and waving my arms frantically. A scream
- 47:57escaped my lips as I receded over my eyes with my hands in a desperate
- 48:02attempt to protect me. But when I finally gathered the courage to look,
- 48:07I saw that all the girls were laughing with laughter and the figure with the
- 48:13mask was actually another of my sister' s friends who had hidden in the
- 48:17cellar when she had gone to the bathroom. The relief and shame mingled within
- 48:21me as I tried to understand what had just happened. Fear barely allowed me
- 48:28to understand the situation and soon I found myself crying overwhelmed by the emotions and
- 48:34experiences of that night. To calm my nerves, one of my sister'
- 48:38s friends proposed to paint my nails and I accepted with gratitude for any distraction
- 48:45that might help me forget the terrifying joke that had just happened. The night
- 48:52continued with relative normality after that, and I finally went to my room to
- 48:58try to sleep at once. However, only a couple of hours later I
- 49:02woke up abruptly because of a nightmare related to the story of Don José.
- 49:08I tried to go back to sleep, but the persistent memory of history kept
- 49:15me awake. Tormenting my dream with every thought, I decided to get up
- 49:21and go to the bathroom to try and calm myself down. While washing my
- 49:23hands, I stared at my freshly painted nails, but a strange movement in
- 49:29the mirror reflection caught my attention. I looked up to see a scary figure
- 49:34standing in the bathtub, and this was a man' s. The man
- 49:38with his clothes torn and stained with old blood, had a disfigured face,
- 49:44without lips or nose hardly looked human. A chill ran through my back as
- 49:50I watched it with horror before I could react. The light suddenly went out,
- 49:55plunged me into darkness. Once again, as my fear gripped me and
- 50:00my screams resounded in the house drawing the attention of my sister and her friends.
- 50:07The sound of hasty steps resonated in the hallway and soon my sister and
- 50:12her friends ran into the bathroom with expressions of concern and confusion on their faces.
- 50:17They tried to reassure me by asking me what had happened, but my
- 50:23words were cut short by fear. I finally managed to articulate what I had
- 50:29seen in the bathtub, describing the disfigured and bloody figure that seemed to have
- 50:34appeared out of nowhere. The girls exchanged nervous glances among themselves, trying to
- 50:38find a logical explanation for what had just happened, trying to calm the situation
- 50:45I had generated by my statements. My sister tried to minimize the situation,
- 50:51claiming that everything was simply childish fears and that we should not worry too much.
- 50:58The other girls seemed to want you to believe in that comforting explanation,
- 51:02but deep down in my being I knew it wasn' t like that,
- 51:07with the refusal to stay alone in my room. My sister. Finally,
- 51:10he agreed to have me stay in his room, where all the other girls
- 51:15were, too. Once there I tried to fall asleep, but the memory
- 51:21of the disfigured figure in the mirror kept tormenting me, preventing me from finding
- 51:29peace while listening to the girls speak quietly. I tried to block the disturbing
- 51:34thoughts that invaded my mind, but suddenly, a loud sound put us all
- 51:38on alert. They were heavy knocks on the door of the room. The
- 51:43sound resonated through the room and that didn' t make sense. It was
- 51:47almost midnight and there was no reason for anyone to be knocking on doors so
- 51:54hard at that time of night, let alone the door of a room.
- 51:58Mine all got hold of us while we were looking at each other nervously asking
- 52:05who or what might be knocking on the door. My hands were shaking as
- 52:08I got out of bed, feeling a wave of panic going through my body.
- 52:14We all approached the door with caution, without daring to open, but
- 52:17the blows continued to be more and more persistent and threatening. Finally, my
- 52:25sister took the initiative and opened the door with a determined gesture, but what
- 52:30we found on the other side left us breathless and frozen with terror, for
- 52:35there was no one there, only the darkness of the corridor and the deaf
- 52:39echo of our own heartbeats. Beating hard in my chest, I turned to
- 52:45my sister and the other girls seeking comfort in her presence. However, at
- 52:52that time I could not find the desired comfort, for all those present seemed
- 52:57as frightened as I did. Some more innscuso. We remain silent trying to
- 53:04comfort each other with our presence. However, the sense of security we were
- 53:08trying to build quickly faded away when an atmosphere of oppression and discomfort began to
- 53:15fill the room, as if something was lurking in the shadows, waiting for
- 53:21its time to make its appearance. Suddenly, a thick, icy mist began
- 53:25to fill the room, enveloping us in an unpleasant atmosphere. Our hearts were
- 53:32pounding in our breasts as we watched with horror as a haze took shape,
- 53:38adopting the figure of a tall and gloomy man. The sinister whispers filled the
- 53:44air, accompanied by the chilling sound of what appeared to be chains, crawling
- 53:50down the ground with terrified eyes. We clung to each other unable to turn
- 53:55our gaze away from the demonic specter that became present in the room, and
- 54:02then we saw his face, a disfigured and grotesque face with empty eyes that
- 54:07seemed to pierce our souls, with his stare without life. For me there
- 54:10was no doubt. It was Don José, the spirit whose history he had
- 54:15heard that same night, manifesting before us a collective cry of terror escaped from
- 54:22our lips as we retreated desperately wishing to escape from the evil presence that surrounded
- 54:30us but it seemed that we were trapped in a world of nightmare. Suddenly
- 54:34that figure faded away and for a moment we thought that would be all.
- 54:39The worst, however, was just about to happen. The lights began to
- 54:45blink erratically, flashing all over the room. The furniture began to move alone,
- 54:53sliding with a chilling sound. The objects flew through the air as if
- 54:59they had their own life, breaking against the walls. Then something happened that
- 55:05left us paralyzed. The demonic figure of Don José materialized before us once again,
- 55:10this time more solid and tangible than before. His empty eyes shone with
- 55:15a sinister malice, as he watched us with a twisted smile on his disfigured
- 55:22face without a word, he stretched out a bony hand towards us, as
- 55:29if he were inviting us to join him in the afterlife. A choked cry
- 55:31escaped our lips. As we retreated, we were unable to turn our gaze
- 55:37away from the horrible vision before us. And then, just as we seemed
- 55:42to be on the edge of the abyss, the demonic figure began to fade
- 55:50slowly, dissipating in the darkness. That left us trembling and bewildered by the
- 55:54intensity of the supernatural experience we had just witnessed and gathering sufficient courage, we
- 56:00headed to the front door, determined to leave the house as quickly as possible.
- 56:07No one had the courage to go back into the house and once we
- 56:12walked out the door. All my sister' s friends rushed back to their
- 56:15homes. Some of them offered us a place to spend the night. However,
- 56:22my sister rejected each of those proposals because my mother could arrive at any
- 56:27time. Time spent leaving me with my sister in front of the house in
- 56:34which we had lived a night of unimaginable terror. We stood silently in front
- 56:39of the house for the rest of that night, feeling the weight of what
- 56:44we had witnessed. There was no need to say anything. We both knew
- 56:49that we would never do the same again After that terrifying experience, when the
- 56:54first rays of the sun began to illuminate, we finally found the courage to
- 57:00enter the house again. Every step we took was full of fear, but
- 57:04we knew we had to face our fears. After all, our mother would
- 57:08arrive in a few hours and neither one of us had a good explanation for
- 57:14the events that occurred that night. Once inside, my sister remembered that the
- 57:20daughter board was still in her room. It was clear that neither of us
- 57:23wanted to know anything about that cursed board. However, we did not have
- 57:30many options. After researching how to properly dispose of objects linked to the supernatural,
- 57:36my sister assured me that burning was the recommended method and apparently worked,
- 57:40as we never experienced anything supernatural again in our home. Despite getting rid of
- 57:49that board and the passing of the years, we could never fully come to
- 57:53the feeling that someone was watching us from the shadows and during the time we
- 57:59lived in that house there was always a feeling of restlessness in the air,
- 58:02as if Don José' s ghost was still hanging around the halls waiting for
- 58:08his next chance to torment us once again. My name is Philip and what
- 58:20I will tell you next is an event that even today causes me nightmares.
- 58:25When all this started, I was just an eight- year- old boy.
- 58:30I lived in a house where my parents were scarce because of their work
- 58:35as doctors. Sometimes when they couldn' t get a babysitter, my older
- 58:42brother, who was then fourteen, took the role of caregiver. He was
- 58:46an outgoing and popular boy and on one of those nights when he was in
- 58:51charge, he decided to take advantage of the absence of our parents to organize
- 58:55a party at home. I remember being completely oblivious to his plans. I
- 59:01thought it would be a night like any other. However, as soon as
- 59:06the first guests started arriving, my brother asked me to stay upstairs for the
- 59:10rest of the night. I refused at first, for I had nothing to
- 59:14do upstairs, but my brother persuaded me to stay upstairs. He could watch
- 59:20TV in his room. I was excited to have a chance to watch TV
- 59:24in her room. That was a place I was rarely allowed in and as
- 59:30if that wasn' t enough, he told me he could have all the
- 59:35soda he wanted, as well as eat candy until he bursts. That offer
- 59:39was enough to excite me I spent most of the night locked in his room,
- 59:46watching all kinds of programs, which many times my parents had forbidden me
- 59:51to watch. Meanwhile, in the living room, the party noise was starting
- 59:55to increase. Laughter, lively music and conversation filled my home. I felt
- 1:00:02excluded from all that and, despite the endless channels, the monotony of television
- 1:00:07finally ended up getting bored and I decided to come down to join the party.
- 1:00:14When I arrived in the living room, I found a tense atmosphere.
- 1:00:17One of my brother' s friends was playing with a huija board and the
- 1:00:22others were around watching the show and, despite my fear, I approached to
- 1:00:28see what was happening. The boy' s hands moved on the table as
- 1:00:32he asked questions to the supposed spirit. At one point, the boy suggested
- 1:00:38someone else try and who did it was my brother. Again he questioned who
- 1:00:44he was talking to, and the table marked the hatter' s letter by
- 1:00:47letter. When my brother said that out loud. The laughter did not wait,
- 1:00:52as they compared it to the character of the animated films. The atmosphere
- 1:00:58became even more disturbing when the mild storm that had been intermittently all night became
- 1:01:04more intense with thunder and lightning rumbling in the sky. That made my hair
- 1:01:10stand up. However, the rest of the boys seemed to enjoy the game
- 1:01:15more like this, suggesting questions and laughing at each other. Then, one
- 1:01:22of the thunders caused a blackout across the neighborhood, plunged us into total darkness.
- 1:01:29In the middle of the darkness, lightning lit the room for a brief
- 1:01:32moment and I saw something freezing my blood. At the kitchen door, a
- 1:01:37dark figure was seen backlight with a top hat on his head. That vision
- 1:01:44made my heart speed up. A scream escaped my lips and at that moment
- 1:01:50the light returned revealing that the figure had disappeared. My brother finally realized my
- 1:01:57presence I pointed to a gift where I had seen the shadow, but it
- 1:02:01was too late, as nothing was there. My brother' s friends began
- 1:02:07to laugh at me, making even jokes that at night the hatter would show
- 1:02:12up to pull my feet. Although my brother followed the game a little,
- 1:02:16when I was genuinely scared, he decided to end the party. Everyone left,
- 1:02:23leaving me alone with my growing thoughts and fears. My brother assured me
- 1:02:29that nothing that had happened was real, besides he promised me that he himself
- 1:02:32had moved the pointer. His words reassured me, though not too much.
- 1:02:38After that we strive to clean the house meticulously, eliminating any trace of the
- 1:02:45party to avoid arouse suspicion among our parents. However, as I helped my
- 1:02:52brother to collect the remains of the party, my mind could not stop wandering
- 1:02:55towards that terrifying encounter in the darkness of the kitchen. Every time I closed
- 1:03:00my eyes, the figure of the hatter became present in my mind. His
- 1:03:06presence filled my thoughts with a paralyzing fear. I tried to convince myself that
- 1:03:10it had only been the product of my imagination, but something deep inside of
- 1:03:15me knew it had been real. While we were cleaning the room, my
- 1:03:22brother asked me to go get a garbage bag that was in the kitchen.
- 1:03:27I tried to turn on the light, but because of the blackout the focus
- 1:03:31had melted with the heart beating hard in my chest, I went into the
- 1:03:36darkness of the kitchen, struggling to keep composure. The living room light.
- 1:03:40It barely illuminated the threshold of the kitchen, leaving it wrapped in a disquieting
- 1:03:45semi- darkness. My steps resounded on the ground. As I approached the
- 1:03:51place where the garbage bags were supposed to be. My hands trembled slightly as
- 1:03:57I groped among scattered objects. Suddenly, thunder broke out in the sky,
- 1:04:03followed by lightning that left the house in the dark. Once again I tried
- 1:04:09to keep calm, reminding myself that there was nothing to be afraid of,
- 1:04:13but then I heard something, soft steps approaching the kitchen to finally get into
- 1:04:18it and stop right behind me. My heart began to beat harder than ever.
- 1:04:27I tried to convince myself that he was just my brother, but a
- 1:04:30feeling of restlessness took over me. Trying to keep my voice steady. I
- 1:04:35asked him if he could enlighten me to see better, but there was only
- 1:04:41silence in response. I continued to stir things up in search of the garbage
- 1:04:45bag. My nervousness increased with every second I spent in the dark. I
- 1:04:49asked again, but this time a voice answered me from the living room.
- 1:04:54It was my brother' s voice, asking if he had already found what
- 1:04:59he was looking for. Fear took over me at the time, leaving me
- 1:05:02paralyzed in the place. If my brother was in the living room, then
- 1:05:08who was in the kitchen with me. A chill ran through my back as
- 1:05:13I turned slowly to face the darkness behind me, and there he, the
- 1:05:18hatter, was with his dark figure and his top hat. The flashing light
- 1:05:24of the lightning briefly illuminated his presence, revealing an inhuman glow in his empty
- 1:05:30eyes, a cry of terror. He ran away from my lips as he
- 1:05:33receded, but when my brother ran into the kitchen, the figure disappeared once
- 1:05:40again in the dark. My tears flowed freely as I tried to explain what
- 1:05:45I had seen, but my brother only looked at me with disbelief. He
- 1:05:49assured me that he was only nervous about what happened, but that he would
- 1:05:55forget in a few days. I wasn' t sure that was true.
- 1:05:58After everything you just experienced it had felt pretty real. However, I didn
- 1:06:04' t want to make a fuss about it, so I just gave him
- 1:06:09the reason. That night it took me hours to fall asleep and when I
- 1:06:15finally achieved it, I was dragged into a world of nightmares. In my
- 1:06:17dream I was standing in the kitchen, with the darkness wrapping me and a
- 1:06:24feeling of discomfort that oppressed my chest from my back I saw the hatter with
- 1:06:30a butcher dagger in his hand, cutting something with precise and methodical movements.
- 1:06:34A chill ran through my back as I watched the scene in horror, feeling
- 1:06:41the urge to flee from there as quickly as possible. I tried to turn
- 1:06:45around and run in the opposite direction. But something did not allow me to
- 1:06:50move slowly towards the hatter. Each step was heavier than the previous one,
- 1:06:56until I finally could see what I was cutting was a rabbit. His body
- 1:07:00was torn and mutilated with torn skin and exposed bones. The hatter noticed my
- 1:07:08presence and slowly turned around, revealing a distorted face and a diabolical smile on
- 1:07:14his lips. He began to laugh in a manic way. His laughter resonated
- 1:07:18in my head. I tried to scream, but I couldn' t do
- 1:07:23it. I tried to wake up, but I was trapped in that horrible
- 1:07:28dream with the hatter coming closer and closer. I finally woke up sweating and
- 1:07:33shaking with my heart, pounding against my chest like a drumming drum. I
- 1:07:39looked around feeling that someone was watching me from the darkness of my room,
- 1:07:44but there was no one else there, or at least no one who could
- 1:07:47see me. I was awake the rest of the night, afraid to close
- 1:07:51my eyes and fall back into the clutches of that dream. The days passed
- 1:07:58each marked by a constant tension. It was a feeling of being watched by
- 1:08:02the shadow of the hatter. Sometimes I could spend whole days without feeling his
- 1:08:08presence, allowing me to relax a little bit and feel almost normal again.
- 1:08:13But something in me knew that entity was always present in the darkest corners of
- 1:08:18my home. Relieving the corners almost as if waiting for the right moment to
- 1:08:25appear again, I did not know who to turn to. I couldn'
- 1:08:30t tell my parents about my brother' s party, the daughter and the
- 1:08:33hatter, because that would mean ratting out my brother without mentioning that they would
- 1:08:39surely think they were just fantasies of a scared child and my brother, even
- 1:08:45though he was trying to be understanding, just didn' t understand the magnitude
- 1:08:47of my fears. There were days when I almost forgot the existence of the
- 1:08:53hatter, days when I felt brave enough to move freely through my own home
- 1:08:59without feeling stalked. A whole week had passed without a single sighting of that
- 1:09:04terrifying entity and I began to allow myself the hope that perhaps, only perhaps
- 1:09:11everything had been the product of my imagination. But the calm lasted for a
- 1:09:16very short time. One day my father decided to take a day off and
- 1:09:23spend quality time with me. As a special gesture, he proposed to play
- 1:09:28hide and seek my favorite game back then, so I couldn' t resist
- 1:09:32the opportunity and accepted excitedly to be able to play with my father. The
- 1:09:38game started and my father didn' t take long to find me. Then
- 1:09:43it was my turn to look for him. I explored every corner of the
- 1:09:45house, every room and every closet, but I couldn' t find it
- 1:09:51anywhere until I entered the guest room. There by the bed, lay a
- 1:09:57figure covered with a sheet my run right my run almost turned a turn of
- 1:10:00emotion when I thought that I had found my father and with a smile on
- 1:10:05my face I approached and pulled the sheet waiting to see my father' s
- 1:10:11familiar face, but what I saw was something completely different. Under the sheet
- 1:10:16was not my father and instead was the hatter dressed in a red suit,
- 1:10:21worn and a little mistreated. He turned his head in a creepy way to
- 1:10:28look at me with his black, bright eyes. The sound of his bones
- 1:10:31breaking as he turned his head rang in my ears. His face was a
- 1:10:36mask of horror, pale and disfigured, with an inhuman smile revealing sharp teeth.
- 1:10:44His head was turned back and a cry of terror escaped my lips.
- 1:10:47As he retreated, tripping and falling to the ground. The head of the
- 1:10:54hatter turned in front again. His neck creaked with movement filling the air with
- 1:10:59a creepy sound his laughter resounded in my ears, just like in my dreams.
- 1:11:05My screams attracted my father, who ran to my aid, but when
- 1:11:10the figure of the hatter arrived he had vanished into the air, leaving me
- 1:11:15trembling and sweating on the ground. My father tried to understand the origin of
- 1:11:19my fear. However, I was not able to tell him what I had
- 1:11:24seen, and I did not know where to begin, so I again kept
- 1:11:29silent. Another macabre experience with the hatter occurred on a dark and stormy night
- 1:11:35when I was alone at home while my parents were away for a work engagement.
- 1:11:42My brother, despite my pleas, had gone out with his friends to
- 1:11:45watch a movie leaving me only decided to spend the night in my room trying
- 1:11:53to distract me with a book to remove my thoughts from the disturbing presence of
- 1:11:59the hatter. However, the storm roared furiously and every thunder resonated in my
- 1:12:02chest with a sense of restlessness. As I struggled to keep my focus on
- 1:12:10my reading, an unexplained cold feeling began to flood the room. The temperature
- 1:12:15seemed to fall rapidly with every second passing, which is why I decided to
- 1:12:20wrap myself in my blanket in an attempt to retain some heat. As I
- 1:12:26tried to read I felt someone watching me from a corner of my room,
- 1:12:30I looked up and it was then, when I saw him in the corner
- 1:12:35of my room, barely visible among the shadows was the dark figure of the
- 1:12:41hatter. His presence seemed to fill the room with an oppressive atmosphere, making
- 1:12:46the air denser around me. My hands started shaking. As I watched him,
- 1:12:54his figure was motionless, like a specter in the dark. His top
- 1:12:58hat stood on his head and his empty eyes seemed to pierce my soul with
- 1:13:02his penetrating gaze. I tried to scream, to ask for help, but
- 1:13:08my voice got trapped in my throat, as the hatter slowly moved towards me.
- 1:13:13I still have no idea where I got the courage to stand without turning
- 1:13:17my back on that entity. I remember trying to go back, but I
- 1:13:25found myself trapped against the wall without escape in front of the terrifying figure that
- 1:13:30was getting closer and closer. His laughter resonated in my ears and filled me
- 1:13:32with a paralyzing fear. To my fortune, my brother returned just at that
- 1:13:39moment, causing that entity to fade back into darkness, leaving me again alone
- 1:13:44that night. I remember having to go to sleep with my brother, because
- 1:13:49I refused to be alone in my room again. The deterioration of my emotional
- 1:13:55and physical state did not go unnoticed for my parents. Every day I looked
- 1:14:00paler, more oblivious to the torment that the hatter had brought into my life.
- 1:14:05Concerned about my well- being, they decided to take me to a
- 1:14:12psychologist in a desperate attempt to find a rational explanation for my experiences. The
- 1:14:16psychologist listened attentively to what he had to say, but instead of offering understanding
- 1:14:21and help, he simply dismissed my fears as fantasies of an imaginative mind.
- 1:14:28He told my parents that he had probably pulled all those ideas out of some
- 1:14:31horror movie he had seen and that he was only trying to draw attention to
- 1:14:38my supposed supernatural experiences. One day I found myself getting dressed quickly to go
- 1:14:45to school. It was late as usual, so as I walked down the
- 1:14:48stairs to get down, I could feel like cold, bony hands taking me
- 1:14:54by the shoulders before I could react. I felt like my feet lost in
- 1:15:00balance because those hands threw me forward. I screamed with horror as I fell
- 1:15:05and the pain of my arm as I broke rang in my ears and walked
- 1:15:11through every part of my being When I finally got to the ground, I
- 1:15:15twisted with pain with my arm immobilized by my side and when I looked up,
- 1:15:21there was he, the hatter, watching me from the top of the
- 1:15:27stairs, with a twisted smile on his pale and disfigured face. My parents
- 1:15:30ran to me horrified by what had happened to me. They took me urgently
- 1:15:35to the hospital, where my broken arm was taken care of, because even
- 1:15:40though my parents took care of it, it wasn' t enough and while
- 1:15:45I lay in bed recovering from physical trauma, I couldn' t help but
- 1:15:53think that the hatter was still stalking, waiting for his next chance to hurt
- 1:15:54me. After that chilling incident on the stairs, my brother finally decided to
- 1:16:00break the silence and tell the truth about what had really happened that night,
- 1:16:05where he had made that party and where they played with the bank. My
- 1:16:10parents, though initially unbelieving of what they considered to be childish, were dismayed
- 1:16:15and severely rebuked by having organized the party in their absence and exposed their younger
- 1:16:21brother to dangerous situations. Although they were not convinced of the veracity of paranormal
- 1:16:30events, they decided to take steps to reassure us. They consulted a spiritual
- 1:16:35specialist, who cleaned the house and blessed it to protect us from any evil
- 1:16:41entity that might be lurking in the shadows. To my surprise, it seemed
- 1:16:48to work, because after the cleansing and blessing, the hatter completely disappeared from
- 1:16:54our lives. I no longer saw him in the shadows or felt his presence
- 1:16:58in the naked dark corners. The house, peace and tranquility returned to our
- 1:17:01home and little by little, emotional wounds began to heal. However, despite
- 1:17:10the apparent calm that had returned to our lives, I could never completely shake
- 1:17:14the persistent fear that the hatter would one day return. Every dark shadow,
- 1:17:20every inexplicable noise fueled the fire of my paranoia. To this day I keep
- 1:17:28looking over my shoulder, always alert to any sign of his presence, because,
- 1:17:32although cleanliness and blessing may have banished him forever, I know in the
- 1:17:38depths of my being that the hatter must still be somewhere waiting for his moment
- 1:17:43to return and continue with his wave of terror. And as long as I
- 1:17:49live in that fear, I know I can never feel completely safe from his
- 1:17:54influence. Stories written and adapted by Aurora Escalante
