- 0:05Speaker 1: suitable for all audiences. Listener discretion is advised. Welcome to
- 0:12Speaker 1: Patriot's Unfiltered. Paul's on nc double a vacation, God forbid.
- 0:20Speaker 1: He misses, you know, Dayton and Cincinnati whoever that hell's playing,
- 0:23Speaker 1: I don't know. And we're keeping a few and Paul's
- 0:26Speaker 1: going crazy about that. Well. He was also in a
- 0:29Speaker 1: mood on Tuesday, was it? Yeah, because I made him.
- 0:32Speaker 1: I made him right. Thing with Paul, you never can
- 0:34Speaker 1: quite pin him down, like I said, he thought he
- 0:36Speaker 1: was gonna be bad, because that's what Bill does. See.
- 0:39Speaker 1: He doesn't know all the specific moments of everything you
- 0:42Speaker 1: say about him. And then it's in the open next
- 0:44Speaker 1: week and then he's staring Dagger said, are you afraid
- 0:47Speaker 1: of Paul? Matt Morrel's cleverly edited opens Bill Belichick is
- 0:53Speaker 1: like the gift to Boston Sports Radio. The Patriots have
- 0:56Speaker 1: signed running back Time Montgomery. Oh, I know him, like
- 1:00Speaker 1: you said, wins up. You don't know who's the right
- 1:02Speaker 1: tackles we're hearing. That's that's Fred using the tide pen
- 1:05Speaker 1: and not just Paul's. It's wrong because my feelings is
- 1:08Speaker 1: still hurt that bled Cell was replaced. I put that
- 1:10Speaker 1: one in the open him Araule. This is Patriot's Unfiltered,
- 1:13Speaker 1: fueled by Duncan. All right, welcome the Patriots Unfiltered. It
- 1:19Speaker 1: is Tuesday here at Let's Stadium. It's Eric, it's Paul,
- 1:23Speaker 1: it's me, It's Matt. Deuce is on assignment at holy Cross. No,
- 1:27Speaker 1: I don't think he is. No. I think he's afraid
- 1:30Speaker 1: of Paul. Oh you think he quit the show. Well,
- 1:32Speaker 1: I think he's hiding. Yeah, hiding. Don't worry every Poe.
- 1:35Speaker 1: All right, I'm back. But Deuces that holy Cross is
- 1:38Speaker 1: following the scouting. We're doing a piece on scouting and um,
- 1:42Speaker 1: so he's following Jerry. Yeah, they have around quarterback pro
- 1:46Speaker 1: day going on over there, so he's with the scouting.
- 1:49Speaker 1: BC not have theirs yet, I don't believe so, now, don't.
- 1:54Speaker 1: I thought it was odd that they usually they usually
- 1:56Speaker 1: go to BC. They usually go to the bigger Division
- 1:58Speaker 1: one school in the area, So I thought that was
- 2:00Speaker 1: a little odd that they're having one at holy Cross. Yeah,
- 2:02Speaker 1: because BC has a number of prospects. It's not like
- 2:05Speaker 1: they don't have any. They'll have theirs I'm sure, right.
- 2:08Speaker 1: I just think usually the regional one is held at Ye.
- 2:16Speaker 1: What I usually do is they take the biggest Division
- 2:19Speaker 1: one school in the area and then the smaller schools
- 2:22Speaker 1: around that might have a guy that so generally a
- 2:26Speaker 1: guy from Holy Cross will go to BC's right, right,
- 2:29Speaker 1: that's you know, kind of how they do it around
- 2:31Speaker 1: the country. I was just thinking, you you get a
- 2:35Speaker 1: handful of guys, you know, like a Merrimack might have
- 2:37Speaker 1: some of Bentley. I think there was a guy from Bentley,
- 2:40Speaker 1: a couple of what's the guy's name, the offensive lineman anyway,
- 2:43Speaker 1: like Bentley's not going to have the entire NFL send
- 2:46Speaker 1: upon Bentley, um say, anyway, that's what Deuce is today.
- 2:53Speaker 1: And the brown quarterback M. E. J. Perry from andover
- 2:56Speaker 1: mass Uh is going to be throwing there today as well.
- 3:00Speaker 1: And he had a really good workout at the combine. Okay,
- 3:03Speaker 1: you know, he's got a lot of measurables, as they say.
- 3:05Speaker 1: But we got a lot. We got some Patriots news
- 3:08Speaker 1: we got to talk about that's happened since our last
- 3:10Speaker 1: show on Thursday. We've got a lot of NFL news. Well,
- 3:14Speaker 1: you talk about there were a couple of signings. Yeah,
- 3:17Speaker 1: but I mean, I mean mostly there's been stuff going
- 3:19Speaker 1: on around the league. I know we're gonna get I
- 3:23Speaker 1: mean there's a lot. I mean it's crazy. You know,
- 3:26Speaker 1: it is crazy. We said never seen anything like Yeah,
- 3:29Speaker 1: we said when you know when the season ended, Boy,
- 3:32Speaker 1: there's gonna be a lot of big name movements. By
- 3:35Speaker 1: the way, I sometimes done when it happens, though, right,
- 3:38Speaker 1: I just wrote exact exact phrase that you just used.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Even though we all started coming, it's still stunning, right,
- 3:44Speaker 1: because a lot of times you say it and it
- 3:46Speaker 1: doesn't really live up to it, but this year it did.
- 3:49Speaker 1: I mean, I wrote, you know there could be high
- 3:51Speaker 1: profile movement in quarterbacks with Russell Wilson, Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady,
- 3:56Speaker 1: you know, Deshaun Watson and sure enough, right, there was
- 4:00Speaker 1: just major news which one of them changing teams. I
- 4:03Speaker 1: want to offer an apology. Well, do you have an apology? Yeah,
- 4:07Speaker 1: because this this should take I know what the apology is. Yeah,
- 4:10Speaker 1: we know what your apologies. Go ahead, and I will
- 4:13Speaker 1: only speak for myself, but I know there were others
- 4:15Speaker 1: on the show who expressed similar opinion that there was
- 4:17Speaker 1: no way in hell on God's greener at that Davante
- 4:20Speaker 1: Adams was going anywhere, because that's why Aaron Rodgers resigned
- 4:24Speaker 1: in Green Baylim I count that as a stunning trade.
- 4:29Speaker 1: I agree with Eric. I did not see any way
- 4:32Speaker 1: that he was going to get traded. I was. I
- 4:34Speaker 1: don't think as adamant about the trade itself any trade
- 4:38Speaker 1: as Eric was. But yeah, I I echo eric sentiments,
- 4:43Speaker 1: completely stunning trade. I was talking in terms of the Patriots.
- 4:47Speaker 1: I think there was a lot of people that just
- 4:48Speaker 1: should make a run at and I said, they're not going.
- 4:50Speaker 1: He wasn't out here. But but Eric's right in full disclosure.
- 4:54Speaker 1: I didn't think he was going anywhere, right, I didn't
- 4:56Speaker 1: think he was going anywhere. But I mean, good for
- 4:58Speaker 1: Josh though, forgetting not just him, but like he's got
- 5:01Speaker 1: he got Chandler Jones another signing. I mean, he's made
- 5:04Speaker 1: some moves over there to try to keep pace because
- 5:06Speaker 1: you have to. It's and that's the most exciting division
- 5:09Speaker 1: in football right now. And Smith Schuster signs with Kansas City.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Like every day you turn around, it's like another one
- 5:16Speaker 1: that's piling on top of the other one. It's like,
- 5:19Speaker 1: could they have the entire like division being in the playoffs.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Now that now that you got the seven team, like also,
- 5:27Speaker 1: all four of them could be in the playoffs. Well,
- 5:28Speaker 1: they're gonna you know, they're gonna have to beat each other, right,
- 5:31Speaker 1: Like let's say, let's saying each other up for instance,
- 5:34Speaker 1: they all they all go three and three in the division,
- 5:36Speaker 1: right because it's that and then and then they have
- 5:39Speaker 1: winning records in their non non division games, like they
- 5:41Speaker 1: could all be and it's possible. I mean, you could
- 5:44Speaker 1: even go crazy. There's no reason why you can't go
- 5:46Speaker 1: two and four in the division and get to ten wins. Yeah, yeah, sure,
- 5:50Speaker 1: that good. You know, it's not out of the realm
- 5:53Speaker 1: of possibility. But yeah, I mean it's a good division.
- 5:56Speaker 1: I think you know, the Colts getting Matt Ryan, I
- 5:59Speaker 1: think that's a pretty good team. I think Matt Ryan
- 6:02Speaker 1: is a little bit long in the tooth, but I
- 6:04Speaker 1: think it's an upgrade over Carson. Yeah. Yeah, So I
- 6:07Speaker 1: think that puts them, you know, right in that race
- 6:09Speaker 1: with Tennessee UM. And then you look at what the
- 6:15Speaker 1: North is with Deshaun Watson joining you know, Joe Burrow.
- 6:19Speaker 1: And I'm not completely ready to dismiss Pittsburgh either, even
- 6:23Speaker 1: though it's Mitch Drubisky. I'm going to tell you another
- 6:25Speaker 1: thing that's an upgrade over what they had a quarterback
- 6:28Speaker 1: last because Ben was because Ben's done shadow of himself,
- 6:31Speaker 1: you know, great career. No no rocket shots intended at
- 6:34Speaker 1: Ben Roethlisberger, but the last two years he's been done right.
- 6:37Speaker 1: And Mitch Drubisky, as flawed as he is, is better
- 6:40Speaker 1: than last year's version of Big Ben. Yeah, so that
- 6:44Speaker 1: division is going to be a nightmare too. Lamar Jackson
- 6:46Speaker 1: Baltimore done about. It'll be healthy. So the Cleveland thing,
- 6:50Speaker 1: that all adds up to an incredible arms race in
- 6:52Speaker 1: the AFC. Yeah, the Cleveland thing with the contract, you
- 6:55Speaker 1: know what's reported with Watson. Yeah, they they've done it
- 6:59Speaker 1: so that in this first year it's only like a
- 7:02Speaker 1: million dollars, so if he does yeah, so if he
- 7:06Speaker 1: does get suspended, he doesn't really lose out in any money.
- 7:09Speaker 1: And then the rest of it is like fully guaranteed.
- 7:13Speaker 1: Who contract is fully guaranteed, which is an unheard of
- 7:16Speaker 1: for a contract of that size. Was it five years
- 7:19Speaker 1: to thirty yeah, something like that? Forty six million a year? Yeah,
- 7:23Speaker 1: I mean, what are they doing? Is that a I
- 7:26Speaker 1: guess that's what you mean that's what they had to do.
- 7:31Speaker 1: I just I just can't imagine like in also, and
- 7:33Speaker 1: I don't I don't want to go on my I'm
- 7:35Speaker 1: not on the high horse. Like I read Peter King
- 7:37Speaker 1: yesterday and it made me nauseous. It's Peter King um,
- 7:40Speaker 1: to be honest with you, how someone could be that
- 7:42Speaker 1: offended um by anything, by anything in life that doesn't
- 7:45Speaker 1: really have anything to do with them, but regards I
- 7:49Speaker 1: do find it stunning that not that they would give
- 7:52Speaker 1: a guy a second chance, but that they would be
- 7:54Speaker 1: that invested in that desperate to give a guy a
- 7:59Speaker 1: second chance. It's almost like, did you not realize there
- 8:01Speaker 1: are twenty two women out there that yeah, you're you're
- 8:04Speaker 1: potentially uh you know, disrespecting and really disrespecting a large
- 8:10Speaker 1: portion off you're own fan base. Like it's one thing
- 8:13Speaker 1: to say, hey, you know, everybody makes mistakes. We're going
- 8:16Speaker 1: to give this guy a second shot. But this isn't
- 8:19Speaker 1: given a guy a second shot. This is putting, like
- 8:21Speaker 1: you said, Fred desperation, everything into one basket. If this
- 8:25Speaker 1: doesn't work, oh yeah, this could be you're setting you
- 8:28Speaker 1: a franchise back, Like, yeah, it's not because of the money.
- 8:33Speaker 1: It's because of the damage you're gonna do it. It's
- 8:34Speaker 1: like Washington, it's Daniel Snyder, like it's the disrespect to women.
- 8:39Speaker 1: You're so if this doesn't work, like listen, if Deshaun
- 8:42Speaker 1: Watson turns out to be one of those guys who
- 8:46Speaker 1: did who made some mistakes, but isn't that person, you know,
- 8:50Speaker 1: and he ends up playing well and Cleveland has success,
- 8:54Speaker 1: they'll be Okay. If this doesn't work and he ends up,
- 8:58Speaker 1: you know, three months from now, it's it's way worse
- 9:00Speaker 1: than anybody even thinks. Now, Cleveland's gonna be Washington. They could,
- 9:05Speaker 1: it's gonna be the you know, they could be moving again.
- 9:08Speaker 1: I mean it could. They could be the organization that
- 9:10Speaker 1: condones the you know, the do you think the disrespect
- 9:13Speaker 1: we think they have sharps and do you think they
- 9:15Speaker 1: know something? Well, the thing was the thing I was
- 9:18Speaker 1: wondering was are they are they betting on last year
- 9:25Speaker 1: being a de facto suspension for Watson? Oh no, he's
- 9:28Speaker 1: going to get suspended, but they're betting on the fact
- 9:30Speaker 1: that not for the He's not. No, he's gonna probably
- 9:32Speaker 1: get like some months, he'll get six games. Well, why
- 9:35Speaker 1: at this point, what would be the basis of the suspension. Well,
- 9:39Speaker 1: if these are two but right now, he said, she
- 9:44Speaker 1: said right. And Ben Roethlisberger he said, he said, they
- 9:46Speaker 1: said yeah, they said and Roethlisberger and Ezekiel Elliott both
- 9:49Speaker 1: got suspended for the same thing. But we get criminal
- 9:53Speaker 1: I thought, Roethlisberger, there was like evidence, there were no
- 9:55Speaker 1: criminal charges. There were there were witnesses other than the
- 9:58Speaker 1: woman with with No, there weren't criminal charges. But there
- 10:01Speaker 1: were witnesses other than the woman saying it. Yeah, women
- 10:05Speaker 1: said it it was he said, she said the same
- 10:07Speaker 1: thing as this. Yeah, but they each woman wasn't a
- 10:12Speaker 1: witness to the other. You know what I'm saying. There
- 10:13Speaker 1: weren't witnesses for each thing. I mean, I'm not a lawyer, obviously,
- 10:18Speaker 1: so I'm not even gonna dress myself by trying. But
- 10:20Speaker 1: my point is, you can get suspended without criminal charges,
- 10:24Speaker 1: and no, I know he will get suspended. My guess
- 10:26Speaker 1: is Cleveland thinks they vetted this enough to the point
- 10:30Speaker 1: where they think that they know the worst and there's
- 10:33Speaker 1: nothing that's going to happen that's gonna be worse than this, right,
- 10:36Speaker 1: And I think they're probably fully prepared. Fred your point
- 10:38Speaker 1: about the money paragraph five salary. Yeah, that's what he'll
- 10:42Speaker 1: get subjected to lose with a suspension. They know that's
- 10:47Speaker 1: coming in the first year. Yeah, but if it turns
- 10:50Speaker 1: out that it's worse than people think, and these these
- 10:54Speaker 1: civil cases end up bringing that out, then that's when
- 10:57Speaker 1: Cleveland's gonna look evey. But you would imagine know that
- 11:00Speaker 1: if if it's probably won't be because if if there
- 11:04Speaker 1: was other evidence that they're going to use in the
- 11:06Speaker 1: civil cases, wouldn't it have come out during this grand
- 11:10Speaker 1: jury thing? And you know, so they chose not to
- 11:13Speaker 1: indict because there wasn't anything to base criminal charges on.
- 11:18Speaker 1: So there isn't the evidence to do that. I don't know.
- 11:22Speaker 1: I guess is that's probably the way it's going to
- 11:24Speaker 1: run fold Yeah, but with what trials you never know,
- 11:26Speaker 1: like lawyers bring out surprise witnesses or thinking the criminal
- 11:31Speaker 1: part they would have done that. I don't know anyway,
- 11:34Speaker 1: But it's harder, But it's it's harder to prove it
- 11:36Speaker 1: from all. Oh, it is it is. So that's what
- 11:38Speaker 1: I'm saying. If you have evidence, that's the time to
- 11:40Speaker 1: bring it out, isn't it. You know, I don't guess
- 11:43Speaker 1: but yeah, just the whole AFC is getting ultra competitive. Yeah,
- 11:47Speaker 1: it's And then so then where does Baker may feel go?
- 11:50Speaker 1: Where does Jimmy Garoppolo go? I don't know this. There's
- 11:54Speaker 1: a couple quarterbacks out there, like Jimmy probably would have
- 11:57Speaker 1: been gone by now if he didn't have you know,
- 12:00Speaker 1: and he's not like, at best, he's going to be
- 12:02Speaker 1: throwing by the time training camp start. He's got to
- 12:04Speaker 1: get somewhere and learn an offense and he can't throw.
- 12:07Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, so does he stick around for another year?
- 12:11Speaker 1: I can't imagine they're going to do that again? Yeah,
- 12:14Speaker 1: San Francisco, Although I would. I would because I think
- 12:19Speaker 1: that that's a team that can absolutely especially in the NFC.
- 12:22Speaker 1: Now with all the talent that's left the NFC, that's
- 12:25Speaker 1: wide open. Brady's like, all right, let's go. The only
- 12:31Speaker 1: competition is Aaron Rodgers. It's the Rams of the Bucks.
- 12:33Speaker 1: Yeah right right, I mean, I mean I know that
- 12:36Speaker 1: the Bucks were you know, that's why Brady retired because
- 12:38Speaker 1: he knew the Bucks were going to stink. Yeah, but
- 12:40Speaker 1: the Bucks are the I think the favorite in the
- 12:43Speaker 1: NFC because you got a figure it's tired to repeat, Yeah, yeah,
- 12:48Speaker 1: I would say the Bucks are the favorite. Yeah, although
- 12:50Speaker 1: the Rams made a big move too, getting Alan Robinson. Yeah,
- 12:54Speaker 1: trading away your guy Bobby Trees going to Tennessee. They
- 12:58Speaker 1: didn't get much for him, didn't He's got a twenty yeah, yeah,
- 13:03Speaker 1: but what they get a fifth round pick for him
- 13:05Speaker 1: something like that. I think it may have been a sixth. Oh, Okay,
- 13:09Speaker 1: it might have been a fifth. I don't know. You
- 13:10Speaker 1: could be right. Yeah, all right, but um, getting back
- 13:13Speaker 1: to the Patriots, you guys don't care that they signed
- 13:16Speaker 1: Trent Brown. It's fine, yeah, but I mean compared to
- 13:19Speaker 1: all the other stuff we just talked about it, Pales,
- 13:22Speaker 1: I would rather have the other two offensive lineman that
- 13:24Speaker 1: they let go than him, because the other two offensive
- 13:27Speaker 1: lineman will play. I know you're you're dead set on
- 13:30Speaker 1: that he's not gonna play a whole season because he
- 13:32Speaker 1: has because he won't. He missed twenty four the last
- 13:34Speaker 1: fifty games. He might, you know, he could he you know,
- 13:38Speaker 1: just he has had an injury history. I mean it
- 13:42Speaker 1: does help in that you you at least have that's
- 13:46Speaker 1: one less player on the old line you have to
- 13:48Speaker 1: worry about in terms of Yeah, it's better to have
- 13:50Speaker 1: him back than not. Right. So, like last week we
- 13:53Speaker 1: were all talking as if they lost three starting offensive lineman.
- 13:56Speaker 1: Now they've only lost two. But but and if I
- 13:59Speaker 1: wasn't here Thursday, but I didn't think he was going
- 14:00Speaker 1: anywhere because I don't think anybody wanted him. Yeah, well
- 14:03Speaker 1: I think I think. I think on Thursday he had
- 14:05Speaker 1: a visit with Seattle, which is why we were talking about,
- 14:07Speaker 1: like he's probably gonna be gone. And did you see
- 14:10Speaker 1: how that like played out on Twitter? No, it was
- 14:12Speaker 1: like he's going to visit Seattle, you know, on Tuesday,
- 14:16Speaker 1: He's going to visit Seattle. On Thursday. On Wednesday, he's
- 14:18Speaker 1: going to visit Seattle tomorrow. On Thursday, he visited Seattle. Today.
- 14:22Speaker 1: On Friday, he stayed overnight in Seattle. I was like,
- 14:26Speaker 1: Seahawks don't want any part of this guy that agents
- 14:28Speaker 1: working overtime. To try to say, Patriots, he wants to
- 14:32Speaker 1: stay with you, righto. And then even then they still
- 14:35Speaker 1: didn't want him. The Patriots still didn't want him back.
- 14:38Speaker 1: They wanted Lyle Collins. Yeah, and then went to Cincinnati
- 14:42Speaker 1: and a lot of people say the Patriots offer was comparable,
- 14:45Speaker 1: if not better. Yeah, for me, they wanted Collins based
- 14:50Speaker 1: on reports. We don't know, but they wanted Collins, and
- 14:53Speaker 1: then I think they looked at it and said, all right,
- 14:55Speaker 1: we got to take him back. But it's not even
- 14:58Speaker 1: just like he gets hurt a lot. I think he
- 15:01Speaker 1: gets hurt and is out a long time. Yeah, when
- 15:05Speaker 1: people wonder. I think the Patriots were very impatient with
- 15:08Speaker 1: him last year with the calf problem and didn't realize
- 15:13Speaker 1: didn't feel like he maybe needed to miss seventy eight
- 15:16Speaker 1: games or whatever it ended up being. Yep, that's what
- 15:20Speaker 1: worries me. And they need him. They need him to
- 15:23Speaker 1: be um, you know, the good player he is when
- 15:26Speaker 1: he plays, They need him to be out there all
- 15:28Speaker 1: the time. Yeah. I think when he's healthy he's one
- 15:30Speaker 1: of the best tackles and right tackles in football. I
- 15:34Speaker 1: really do. I mean, we'll never know. I mean he's
- 15:37Speaker 1: never been healthy, so I don't know. He had twenty
- 15:39Speaker 1: eighteen was yeah, and then I mean helped him win
- 15:43Speaker 1: a Super Bowl that year, got to give credit where
- 15:45Speaker 1: credits due, and drove Dante crazy for half the season.
- 15:49Speaker 1: This is my like, I know, he just when when
- 15:52Speaker 1: you win, it's the elixir and everybody just watches away
- 15:55Speaker 1: all the stuff that was frustrating. But he got him
- 15:58Speaker 1: on He got him on the right track. They won
- 16:00Speaker 1: the Super Bowl, so all was forgiven, but and he helped.
- 16:03Speaker 1: He's not a reliable player. I didn't say all was forgiven.
- 16:05Speaker 1: I'm just saying give him. No, I mean him with it,
- 16:07Speaker 1: like I don't mean you. I mean in general. Yeah,
- 16:11Speaker 1: we sort of overlook the things that were problems. All right.
- 16:15Speaker 1: So they they signed Trent Brown and you know, we
- 16:18Speaker 1: knew last Thursday they signed Time Montgomery. I think that
- 16:21Speaker 1: happened during during the show, you know, uh they officially resigned.
- 16:25Speaker 1: Um uh Jowan Bentley Joan Bentley's back. Um, is that
- 16:30Speaker 1: what you guys were making fun of me about when
- 16:32Speaker 1: I said that Bill will bring him back. You know
- 16:33Speaker 1: he's going to bring him back. I don't think so. No,
- 16:37Speaker 1: there was a lot we were making fun of you.
- 16:39Speaker 1: I know, I believe me. I was. I think it
- 16:42Speaker 1: was Boles. Yeah, all the guys I said that would
- 16:47Speaker 1: be back. The Bolden is the only one that wasn't.
- 16:49Speaker 1: All the rest of them are here and by the way,
- 16:51Speaker 1: high towers still lingering. Yeah, I don't know. I don't
- 16:54Speaker 1: think he'll be back. But he's still out there. Um,
- 17:00Speaker 1: what was I gonna say? Uh? Oh, I forgot it
- 17:04Speaker 1: couldn't have been that important. Then it's I mean, it's
- 17:10Speaker 1: a disappointing off season. I don't know how you can
- 17:13Speaker 1: put it any other way, I think, but I just
- 17:16Speaker 1: I was expecting them to let some veterans go so
- 17:19Speaker 1: they could sign some younger players. Instead, they signed all
- 17:22Speaker 1: the veterans, and now they've succeed I gotta give them credit.
- 17:27Speaker 1: They've successfully convinced everyone they don't have the money to
- 17:30Speaker 1: do anything. They had plenty, but they spent it on
- 17:33Speaker 1: guys that were thirty five years It's not over yet. Wow,
- 17:36Speaker 1: But the talent Zaq was. I mean, there are still
- 17:40Speaker 1: some guys, but older guys like I, Like, I thought
- 17:44Speaker 1: there was a chance they could get some younger talent.
- 17:47Speaker 1: You know, I would have taken Smith Schuster, I would
- 17:49Speaker 1: have taken Djhark, I would have taken one of those
- 17:52Speaker 1: receivers who I could bet on the future. Sure, but like,
- 17:56Speaker 1: it doesn't it's not going to break the bank. I
- 17:58Speaker 1: think Judrew Smith Schuster cut like three million dollars. The
- 18:01Speaker 1: rest is all incentives, right, But I think like we've
- 18:04Speaker 1: kind of I think We kind of talked about this
- 18:05Speaker 1: a couple of shows ago, like, if you're Smith Schuster,
- 18:08Speaker 1: oh yeah, where would you rather go? No, Kansas City
- 18:11Speaker 1: or Foxburg, no question. But I'm just saying, at this point,
- 18:15Speaker 1: did they even look into it? Yeah? I don't know
- 18:17Speaker 1: they had, right, I absolutely agree with you. They had
- 18:20Speaker 1: some guys in workouts. Yeah, Leonard Fournette, Malcolm Butler, um Ryans,
- 18:27Speaker 1: someone else, Ryan Bates, Yeah, the guard from Joshua Dobbs
- 18:31Speaker 1: arm that's not like high in the priority list. But
- 18:34Speaker 1: I want to talk a little bit about quarterback later
- 18:36Speaker 1: in the show. Um, Leonard Fournette already, I believe we
- 18:43Speaker 1: signed with Tampa this morning, So that was that was
- 18:47Speaker 1: probably a dog and pony show by his agent. Yeah,
- 18:50Speaker 1: you know, I think he signed a three year deal
- 18:52Speaker 1: with the Bucks. Well somebody said, oh, London Fournette, does
- 18:55Speaker 1: that mean Damian Harris might be you know, I think
- 18:58Speaker 1: that was Phil Perry. Well, if they had signed him, yeah,
- 19:01Speaker 1: I would have said, yes, that's what that's what it means,
- 19:03Speaker 1: and you would have been upset again like Sony Michelle,
- 19:07Speaker 1: Um but the the um. Ryan Bates is a I
- 19:14Speaker 1: think would be a good candidate to come in and
- 19:16Speaker 1: give you some depth at guard. I think he could
- 19:18Speaker 1: start at guard in the in the Shack Mason spot. Um,
- 19:22Speaker 1: he played a few games for Buffalo last year. I
- 19:26Speaker 1: forget the guy's name. There was a guy that got
- 19:30Speaker 1: hurt here the day after Christmas game, but yeah, yeah,
- 19:38Speaker 1: um oh, I know who you mean. I forget his name,
- 19:41Speaker 1: but he tore his achilles in the game the day
- 19:44Speaker 1: after Christmas. And this kid, I think his name is
- 19:47Speaker 1: Ryan Bates. Am I getting that right? Um? He's a
- 19:51Speaker 1: backup guard for but he played the last handful of
- 19:53Speaker 1: games for the Bills evidently did reasonably well. He's a
- 19:56Speaker 1: restricted free agent but got the lowest tender, and he's
- 19:59Speaker 1: he's drawn some interest. I think he would make some
- 20:01Speaker 1: sense as one of those interior guys for the Patriots.
- 20:03Speaker 1: So I would like that signing a young guy that
- 20:06Speaker 1: you could plug in and hopefully get something out. Where
- 20:09Speaker 1: is it when you're gonna play? Is he gonna be
- 20:11Speaker 1: just quite super sub again? Or is he? I don't
- 20:13Speaker 1: think think he's gonna have to think he's gonna start
- 20:15Speaker 1: like that. Don't have any start right, Okay, I'm just
- 20:17Speaker 1: when I'm I'm sorry, he's got to start somewhere I know.
- 20:21Speaker 1: So I'm just wondering, Like, so he's gonna be a
- 20:23Speaker 1: guard unless they switched Whin to guard and make him
- 20:28Speaker 1: an all pro like you've always dreamed. That's his floor. Yeah, right,
- 20:31Speaker 1: I wouldn't rule that out. We've since learned that that's
- 20:34Speaker 1: not his floor. His floor is what we've seen for
- 20:37Speaker 1: the last three years. But no, I would not rule
- 20:40Speaker 1: that out. I wouldn't if they think that's the best
- 20:42Speaker 1: five right, So I'm not telling you he will play guard.
- 20:45Speaker 1: But when they can have to move, I mean, Trent
- 20:47Speaker 1: Brown ain't playing guard, no, right, No, so Whin would
- 20:50Speaker 1: have to move if O when you was gonna start
- 20:52Speaker 1: at But if they moved when let's just say they
- 20:55Speaker 1: moved when to guard, would you put Brown back at
- 20:59Speaker 1: left tackle like he did in twenty eighteen and then
- 21:02Speaker 1: have on when you go to the right tackle. I
- 21:04Speaker 1: might look at that. Yeah, Yeah, I don't know. I
- 21:07Speaker 1: don't know how they feel about Trent Brown left to right.
- 21:11Speaker 1: I don't know what they felt better or about. Yeah,
- 21:15Speaker 1: and he had you have a whole at least you
- 21:17Speaker 1: have a whole season's worth of tape to look at
- 21:19Speaker 1: from how he did that year and you don't from
- 21:21Speaker 1: this past year at right tackle, he missed what was
- 21:24Speaker 1: the sixth almost half the year right So I don't know,
- 21:28Speaker 1: just something to consider. You know, he's played on both sides,
- 21:31Speaker 1: so so the offensive line is still an area that
- 21:35Speaker 1: makes addressing, and I think that that's still a high
- 21:38Speaker 1: priority in the draft. Yeah, Like I haven't changed my
- 21:41Speaker 1: thoughts on that. Because they signed Trent Brown, they could
- 21:44Speaker 1: go and see any of the financials on that. By no,
- 21:47Speaker 1: I'm not either interesting. It's probably incentives, probably incentive laden
- 21:51Speaker 1: because of all the games that he's missed, probably has
- 21:54Speaker 1: some you know, game day bonuses and that kind of stuff.
- 21:57Speaker 1: I know this only so much that you get put
- 22:00Speaker 1: into not likely to be earned. But I don't really
- 22:03Speaker 1: care for I'm just concerned about how much money he's
- 22:05Speaker 1: he's making. I don't care about I might have. Didn't
- 22:08Speaker 1: I see something like thirteen or fourteen million two years
- 22:10Speaker 1: for fourteen millions, you know, for whom that'd be pretty cheap. Trent, No,
- 22:14Speaker 1: like each year, oh fourteen million a years year, something
- 22:17Speaker 1: I didn't see. I wouldn't be cheap. I haven't seen
- 22:19Speaker 1: any numbers on him though. That's what win's making to
- 22:21Speaker 1: play left. Yeah, I don't know. I thought thirteen fourteen.
- 22:26Speaker 1: I haven't seen any finny, yeah, just that it was
- 22:29Speaker 1: two years. Yeah, I agree with Eric, that's all I've seen,
- 22:32Speaker 1: But yet I don't. I don't scour the web for
- 22:35Speaker 1: the contracts because they're not that important to me really,
- 22:39Speaker 1: all right, um yeah, so seriously, like we don't pay
- 22:43Speaker 1: it like Robert wants. No, I know, I wish we
- 22:46Speaker 1: didn't have to talk about money and contracts, you know,
- 22:49Speaker 1: I really do, Like it gives me a popsicle headache.
- 22:53Speaker 1: All that stuff I could care less. Well, Plus the
- 22:56Speaker 1: stuff that gets reported is really so deceiving, right, almost
- 22:59Speaker 1: every time, you never know, they're very few shn Watson's yea,
- 23:02Speaker 1: the first sport is rarely accurate. You know it's accurate,
- 23:06Speaker 1: it just doesn't tell the whole story. Yeah, right, like
- 23:08Speaker 1: Juju Smith Schuster. I think it was one year, like
- 23:10Speaker 1: ten and a half million, and then you find out
- 23:13Speaker 1: like a day later that you know, like six and
- 23:16Speaker 1: a half to seven million is in incentives, right, and
- 23:19Speaker 1: then you got to look and see what are they incentives?
- 23:21Speaker 1: Are they at all you know attainable? Right? Like remember
- 23:25Speaker 1: the year that they gave Brady the bump, but it
- 23:28Speaker 1: was like he needed to be MVP and like top
- 23:31Speaker 1: five and like you know, every like whatever, and there's
- 23:35Speaker 1: no way he was going to do all that. Ye. Yeah,
- 23:37Speaker 1: we got made fun of on Thursday, Paul, because I
- 23:40Speaker 1: was Tuesday. We never even mentioned Brady deciding to come
- 23:43Speaker 1: back to Tampa. Yeah. I saw people asking during the show.
- 23:47Speaker 1: I was looking at with fifteen minutes in, there's no
- 23:49Speaker 1: mention of Brady. What is there to say. We've been
- 23:52Speaker 1: telling you all along that we think he's coming back.
- 23:54Speaker 1: He came back. Was anybody really surprised by the fact
- 23:58Speaker 1: that he came back. I was a little I was
- 24:01Speaker 1: a little less than forty eight hours after we had
- 24:04Speaker 1: initially retired. He already talked about never saying no, no,
- 24:08Speaker 1: I know, but I wasn't surprised that he came back.
- 24:10Speaker 1: I was surprised he came back to Tampa Bay a
- 24:12Speaker 1: little bit without a fight. Like I thought he was
- 24:16Speaker 1: using this whole retirement as leverage, right. I mean, Arian's
- 24:22Speaker 1: pretty much came out and say, yeah, he can come
- 24:23Speaker 1: back to me once. But he was always opened the
- 24:25Speaker 1: lights on. Yeah, so that that part of it. I
- 24:27Speaker 1: was a little surprised at that and when they were
- 24:29Speaker 1: so adamant both he and Light at the combine about
- 24:33Speaker 1: no not don't have any plans. When he showed up
- 24:36Speaker 1: at the Manchester United game, you know, before you knew
- 24:41Speaker 1: something was up. Yeah you know, right, Yeah, you knew
- 24:44Speaker 1: something was up. See now that part that would I
- 24:47Speaker 1: would have found that interesting right over my head. No idea,
- 24:51Speaker 1: what you're talking about? You don't know. He like, like
- 24:53Speaker 1: all of a sudden, he just shows up at a
- 24:55Speaker 1: Manchester United game and he meets with Ronaldo. Is that
- 24:59Speaker 1: the guy's chann Yeah on the field, and you know
- 25:02Speaker 1: obviously everyone knows that Glazer team. It's like that. That's
- 25:06Speaker 1: kind of weird. You just retired from the team and
- 25:08Speaker 1: then you show up there. You know that was a
- 25:11Speaker 1: rendezvous he was trying to get him on the TV
- 25:14Speaker 1: twelve method. Yeah. You're in your late thirties, you're gonna
- 25:16Speaker 1: need this. Yeah all right, Well, um, I think we've
- 25:21Speaker 1: laid out some things to talk about. Sure certainly. Um. Yeah,
- 25:26Speaker 1: the Patriots need to do more, there's no doubt, you know.
- 25:29Speaker 1: So what can they do at this point that's gonna
- 25:32Speaker 1: make alter the landscape? You gotta work other than the draft.
- 25:35Speaker 1: I mean you have the draft. Ye yeah, and you
- 25:37Speaker 1: to bank on that this defense is going to have
- 25:40Speaker 1: to be better than it was last year for this
- 25:42Speaker 1: team to be able to compete. Yeah, and I think
- 25:45Speaker 1: you're gonna have to have players who haven't played much
- 25:49Speaker 1: step up into roles and play not only play more,
- 25:52Speaker 1: but play well. Yeah. Yeah, And we don't know which
- 25:56Speaker 1: way that that's gonna go because we have we've hardly
- 25:59Speaker 1: seen some of these guys. Ye Perkins. Ohay, these guys
- 26:03Speaker 1: gonna be regulars in a rotation along with Judean and uh,
- 26:07Speaker 1: you know, we don't have to worry about Nikovic anymore
- 26:09Speaker 1: being part of that. So, like, what does that mean
- 26:12Speaker 1: for the younger guys? Yeah? All right? Eight five Ticket
- 26:17Speaker 1: hot line eight five five Paths five hundred. Web radio
- 26:21Speaker 1: at Patriots dot com is the email address. Uh, let's
- 26:25Speaker 1: uh talk to you see what you're thinking. We'll start
- 26:29Speaker 1: with Bill and DC on the ticket line. What's up? Bill? Hey, Jents,
- 26:34Speaker 1: I have a who am I game? Okay? All right, um,
- 26:38Speaker 1: but real quick, I wanted to give a comment on
- 26:40Speaker 1: the Deshaun Wasson thing. Um you know the attorney for him, Uh,
- 26:45Speaker 1: Tony Buzzby, I don't I don't know him. That's that's
- 26:49Speaker 1: one of them, right. Isn't Rusty Harden involved in that too?
- 26:53Speaker 1: He's on the other side, pardons on Deshaun side. Isn't
- 26:57Speaker 1: that what you just say? Oh, I'm sorry, I think
- 27:01Speaker 1: when when hosts aren't listening, I thought you said Deshaun
- 27:03Speaker 1: Watson's That's that's why I said, isn't it Rusty Hart
- 27:06Speaker 1: I'm sorry the guy going after him? Okay, twenty women
- 27:10Speaker 1: and just real quick to ever and be careful. I
- 27:13Speaker 1: you know, I twenty women complaining they got assaulted. I
- 27:17Speaker 1: think they're very seriously. Just the one thing is I
- 27:20Speaker 1: was in the Marine Corps with Tony as a lieutenant,
- 27:24Speaker 1: a compacent marine and not the most honest person and
- 27:28Speaker 1: the most like self serving guy I knew from that time.
- 27:32Speaker 1: If you look at his web page, he describes himself
- 27:35Speaker 1: as like a war hero in the Marine Corps, like
- 27:37Speaker 1: he wasn't bad and he's good. He's actually a really
- 27:39Speaker 1: good marine. But like it's fundamentally dishonest. If anyone was
- 27:43Speaker 1: like bsking on this, it'll be Tony Buzzby. So just
- 27:46Speaker 1: a little nugget there, Okay, a little background. I was
- 27:50Speaker 1: we've got connections everywhere. Did you outrank him, Bill, No,
- 27:54Speaker 1: we were. We were to actually to keep the s together,
- 27:56Speaker 1: so exact same rank, same day to rank um and
- 27:58Speaker 1: and again like Aton, guy went reconnaissance. But like you know,
- 28:03Speaker 1: people who are always like they never lie out right,
- 28:06Speaker 1: but they're always shading things in ways that served their
- 28:08Speaker 1: own end like that. Yeah, yeah, okay, So who am
- 28:12Speaker 1: I like? Number one? I was drafted by the Patriots
- 28:16Speaker 1: in the fourteenth round of the nineteen seventy three drafts
- 28:21Speaker 1: fourteen fourteen seventy three. Oh my god. Okay, goodna need more? Okay.
- 28:27Speaker 1: I've coached New England, the Jets, the Jags, the Browns,
- 28:31Speaker 1: the Falcons and the Raiders. I've coached Art Shell. I
- 28:37Speaker 1: don't know, no, no coach. I assume you mean as
- 28:42Speaker 1: an Asia obvious. Yeah it wasn't head coach. Yeah yeah,
- 28:46Speaker 1: assistant coach. How about this a line coach? It depends
- 28:48Speaker 1: a line coach. Ray Hamilton, you got it my first
- 28:53Speaker 1: nice wow, good job, Palli, Ray Hamilton. I didn't. I
- 28:57Speaker 1: didn't rest he was drafted in the fourteenth round. I
- 29:00Speaker 1: needed a little bit of prodding there, though. I know
- 29:02Speaker 1: that can't take a lot of can't take too many
- 29:05Speaker 1: bowles on that one. The defensive line blue would have been.
- 29:09Speaker 1: I swear to god, I never touched Kenny s Tabler,
- 29:12Speaker 1: all right. Second one, I was drafted by the San
- 29:18Speaker 1: Diego Superchargers in the second round of the nineteen draft. Wow,
- 29:24Speaker 1: second round sixty eight. Okay, I played the Patriots, including
- 29:32Speaker 1: a record setting O line. Bill Lenchitis, you are on fire. Yeah.
- 29:39Speaker 1: I was thinking it's either Morris Lnchitis or Pete Brock.
- 29:43Speaker 1: And it's not Pete Brock because he was drafted by
- 29:45Speaker 1: the Patriots. I didn't know that Lynchitis wasn't drafted by
- 29:48Speaker 1: the Patriots. I didn't know that. Yeah, right here. Last one,
- 29:56Speaker 1: I was a first round pick out of Texas by
- 29:59Speaker 1: the Patriot. It's in nineteen seventy seven, Ray Clayborne, yours,
- 30:05Speaker 1: Paul three for three. I didn't even need an extra
- 30:08Speaker 1: hint there. First. Here we go, first round pick in
- 30:11Speaker 1: the seventies. Now that's my wheelhouse. Ye See. It's good
- 30:14Speaker 1: when you have the host live and not an email
- 30:16Speaker 1: because Eric can't check the email. Good point, Yeah, good job, Bill,
- 30:22Speaker 1: Thanks for all. He hung up. He might tell Billy said,
- 30:26Speaker 1: and he was a Marine. That's what I was confused
- 30:29Speaker 1: for a while the officer, we're not on the same
- 30:31Speaker 1: level department of the Navy, the mena's department. MALOI grunt. Sorry,
- 30:39Speaker 1: that's good. I'm sure that's an old Ben's in Pittsfield.
- 30:43Speaker 1: Hey Ben, Hey, guys, what's up? Hey? Hey, just a
- 30:48Speaker 1: couple of things about the draft. But there's one thing,
- 30:50Speaker 1: and I feel like guy hasn't been talked about it enough.
- 30:52Speaker 1: I wonder your guys thoughts on it. But why isn't
- 30:55Speaker 1: there like more of a It seems like they didn't
- 30:57Speaker 1: see more of an effort. And I know there can't
- 30:59Speaker 1: really be one for the actual draft, but like, in
- 31:02Speaker 1: my eyes, the Patriots need to get John Metchi like
- 31:05Speaker 1: that is just a no brainer. And you know, I
- 31:08Speaker 1: don't know, I've seen in a couple of months draft
- 31:10Speaker 1: like Hufalda three and stuff, But like, if he is there,
- 31:14Speaker 1: isn't it like a no brainer to get him? Like
- 31:16Speaker 1: I'm hearing other things from people, but you mean at
- 31:18Speaker 1: twenty one, if I'm there, I can see the ACL
- 31:22Speaker 1: But yeah, he's looking good, so you're you can you
- 31:25Speaker 1: want him to be a red shirt year this year? Basically, well,
- 31:30Speaker 1: wasn't he gonna be ready for training camp. They said
- 31:33Speaker 1: he might start running at training I can't. Well, I
- 31:36Speaker 1: know these I don't ever want to dismiss someone's chances
- 31:39Speaker 1: because I know, you know medicine these days that I mean,
- 31:42Speaker 1: it's ridiculous how fast they come back. But I'd be
- 31:45Speaker 1: skeptical that and you'd be ready that fast. And and
- 31:49Speaker 1: do you got to remember acls, No matter how quickly
- 31:52Speaker 1: you come back from them, the first year back, you're
- 31:55Speaker 1: not the same player that you were before the injury.
- 31:58Speaker 1: It usually takes a full season for you to get
- 32:00Speaker 1: back to where you were. So even if he does,
- 32:03Speaker 1: you know, somehow get to play in the fall, he's
- 32:06Speaker 1: not going to be the guy who saw at Alabama
- 32:08Speaker 1: until probably next year. So let's just say, you know,
- 32:12Speaker 1: for argument's sake, that the Patris check out with the
- 32:14Speaker 1: doctors that did his work, and he's gonna be good.
- 32:17Speaker 1: He's he's he would yeah, it was good. You take
- 32:20Speaker 1: him at twenty one. I wouldn't. I wouldn't. No, I
- 32:24Speaker 1: wouldn't take him at twenty one if he didn't have
- 32:26Speaker 1: a twenty al Really, I think I think second round pick.
- 32:29Speaker 1: If he's there, Yeah, okay, that's okay, that's where I
- 32:33Speaker 1: would take absolutely, Yeah, I just I cannot. I know
- 32:38Speaker 1: the ACL is kind of a tough stub dick with it.
- 32:41Speaker 1: But other than that, like I mean, if he's in
- 32:44Speaker 1: second round, I don't think my whole thing with Jameson
- 32:47Speaker 1: William is I'm not a fan of you know, I
- 32:49Speaker 1: wouldn't want red first round. Like if we're picking someone
- 32:52Speaker 1: first round, like we got to play him next year,
- 32:54Speaker 1: like that's a no brainer. But like second round pick,
- 32:57Speaker 1: especially because I've been hearing not not time creep, but
- 33:00Speaker 1: a couple of things about how they might trade for
- 33:02Speaker 1: another second round pick, um, depending on whether or not
- 33:04Speaker 1: they're bringing Leonard Fournette in or not. Um, he just
- 33:07Speaker 1: signed with Tampa Bay. I thought we heard, yeah, Fournette
- 33:11Speaker 1: is back with Tampa Bay. Well, I'm not up to date.
- 33:15Speaker 1: My dad's Okay, happen this morning. Happened this morning? Yeah,
- 33:19Speaker 1: Oh well that's unfortunately. Well yeah, but I just wonder
- 33:23Speaker 1: you have thoughts on that. I really am a fan
- 33:25Speaker 1: of MATCHI Yeah, I think he's I think he's a
- 33:27Speaker 1: good player too. I do want to see, you know,
- 33:30Speaker 1: how the Tony ACL affects him, because I know he's
- 33:33Speaker 1: one of those quickness route running like that's the kind
- 33:37Speaker 1: of thing that can be affected. Look even Edelman. Edelman
- 33:41Speaker 1: got hurt in the preseason, and then the next year
- 33:44Speaker 1: he came back, he wasn't quite as good as he
- 33:47Speaker 1: was the year after that. Exactly. It's it's usually a
- 33:50Speaker 1: year removed from It's just like Tommy John surgery in
- 33:53Speaker 1: Major League Baseball. Once you come back, it's the next
- 33:55Speaker 1: year that you really just settle in. Yep. But I
- 33:58Speaker 1: like Matchie. I agree with bad. Thank you appreciate the call. Uh,
- 34:02Speaker 1: let's go up to California. Cory's on the line. What's up, Cory? Uh?
- 34:08Speaker 1: Quarry my bad quarry? Okay, Sorry, Yes, I just had
- 34:14Speaker 1: to feel in, Um, when are we gonna get Mac
- 34:17Speaker 1: Jones a weapon? Uh? Do you guys believe like Kendrick
- 34:21Speaker 1: Barne is like the number one? I was like, what
- 34:23Speaker 1: are we doing at? Wow? Were by defaultiest? But he
- 34:27Speaker 1: shouldn't be You're you know, he's not a first receiver.
- 34:30Speaker 1: They need to improve their wide receiver situation. I agree.
- 34:33Speaker 1: I'm just confused on where we're going with it. You
- 34:36Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. You have a bunch of like
- 34:37Speaker 1: free agents. I know, kill Harry was a bust I
- 34:40Speaker 1: feel like, you know what, Well, we made the decision
- 34:44Speaker 1: to not have a fullback based offense. So that's good
- 34:47Speaker 1: for the passing game, right, No more fullback on the Patriots,
- 34:52Speaker 1: that's true. Um, but I just I would like to
- 34:56Speaker 1: see some more you know, explosive this. I thought we've
- 34:58Speaker 1: had a few receivers. Oh what happy still there didn't
- 35:05Speaker 1: pay I guess it's just you know, mid sentence, right, Yeah, Okay,
- 35:10Speaker 1: So then we'll go back across the country to the
- 35:13Speaker 1: East coast and we'll talk to Rashad in Baltimore. What's up, Rashad? Hey,
- 35:18Speaker 1: what's up? What's up? Um? Well, let me see, I
- 35:22Speaker 1: lost my training thought I was. I was listening to
- 35:24Speaker 1: the call, but my main thing was, um, like praying
- 35:29Speaker 1: your stories last week, like about like the Lord, the
- 35:32Speaker 1: Lloyd Malloy and the Tom Jackson. Yeah, if you had
- 35:35Speaker 1: like a little bit more of those stories. Because like,
- 35:37Speaker 1: of course, like back then when you have social media,
- 35:39Speaker 1: so I wasn't really in tune with like the little
- 35:42Speaker 1: stories like that back then. But like when you said
- 35:45Speaker 1: to Tom Jackson thing, I went back and looked at it,
- 35:48Speaker 1: and that was crazy. I didn't know nothing about that. Okay,
- 35:51Speaker 1: So like I mean, like you know, you can wait,
- 35:54Speaker 1: like you know, to the end of the show, but
- 35:55Speaker 1: if you had like any more stories, well it's gonna
- 35:58Speaker 1: be organic. I mean, the subject has to come up
- 36:00Speaker 1: and then a story you get reminded of a story. Yeah, yeah,
- 36:04Speaker 1: we've got millions of them. Yeah I it was that. Yeah,
- 36:08Speaker 1: that was that was cool. Okay, Yeah, that's what you
- 36:11Speaker 1: get with this show. You get the present, but you
- 36:14Speaker 1: get the past too, and you talk about the future
- 36:16Speaker 1: to pass because yeah, a lot of Patriots history start
- 36:19Speaker 1: trust the stuff. I don't know. Yeah, okay, we'll do
- 36:24Speaker 1: I will that. Yeah. No, I don't really got enough
- 36:26Speaker 1: about the current Patriots because I don't really I don't
- 36:29Speaker 1: really know the plan, so I don't really Yeah, I
- 36:31Speaker 1: don't really know what they don't. You don't either, And
- 36:34Speaker 1: with the Patriots, like what they off season, you just
- 36:38Speaker 1: gotta just let it go, like just like you know,
- 36:40Speaker 1: they're gonna wait, They're gonna wait, like you know, it
- 36:42Speaker 1: might not be enough to splash you. I'm not even
- 36:44Speaker 1: expecting enough, and I'm just waiting for training campus. You
- 36:47Speaker 1: got a team, but I know, I know you got
- 36:49Speaker 1: you got a draft to look as we do. We
- 36:52Speaker 1: do and they did. I mean, they got some good returns,
- 36:56Speaker 1: early returns on their draft last year. So if they
- 36:58Speaker 1: can build on that, because you know, we've said it
- 37:01Speaker 1: many times on the show, good teams build through the draft,
- 37:05Speaker 1: not through free agency. Free agency helps to augment what
- 37:08Speaker 1: you already have, but you you have to build a
- 37:11Speaker 1: foundation through the draft. So they need to get a
- 37:14Speaker 1: few more of these in a row under their belt,
- 37:16Speaker 1: right to to have something around mac Jones that's gonna
- 37:20Speaker 1: last for more than one or two seasons, you know,
- 37:23Speaker 1: So I think you look forward to that next year.
- 37:27Speaker 1: I think it was The Herald said that right now
- 37:31Speaker 1: as of today, they're projected to have something like one
- 37:33Speaker 1: hundred million dollars under the cap next offseason. Patriots. Yeah, yeah,
- 37:38Speaker 1: so they could be they could have another off season
- 37:40Speaker 1: like last year. Right. So I think when people say
- 37:43Speaker 1: I don't know what the plan is, I think that
- 37:46Speaker 1: they're talking about this year. Yeah, And because that's all
- 37:50Speaker 1: they look at it. They only the immediate and right now.
- 37:54Speaker 1: You know, I heard um Christian Floury. I think he
- 37:57Speaker 1: was saying, you know, I consider the Patriots a team.
- 38:00Speaker 1: It's in the hunt. That's how I categorize them. Coming up.
- 38:03Speaker 1: I'm not sure for a playoff for a playoff spot,
- 38:07Speaker 1: I'm not sure about that right now. As of right now.
- 38:10Speaker 1: It's a big statement, being dead serious, it's a big
- 38:13Speaker 1: statement from me as of right now. They've fallen behind. Now, obviously,
- 38:17Speaker 1: all of this is on paper. All these improvements that
- 38:20Speaker 1: these and it's March quote unquote improvements that these other
- 38:23Speaker 1: teams have made are on paper. We don't know how
- 38:26Speaker 1: the team is actually going to show up on the field.
- 38:29Speaker 1: That includes the Patriots. But you know, certainly these other
- 38:33Speaker 1: teams that have added you know, Russell Wilson could go
- 38:35Speaker 1: to Denver and maybe Denver is not that good. I mean,
- 38:38Speaker 1: I don't know. Yeah, you should think they would be,
- 38:40Speaker 1: but you just you don't know for sure. Here's the thing,
- 38:43Speaker 1: you know, and I know, like Sean Watson could go
- 38:46Speaker 1: to Cleveland and they could still stay. Some Patriots fans
- 38:48Speaker 1: have done this this game. Yeah, but when you have
- 38:51Speaker 1: to do that for like five teams to get yourself
- 38:54Speaker 1: right feel better, That's that's why. And that's why I say,
- 38:58Speaker 1: right now, as of this moment, I don't think they're
- 39:00Speaker 1: in the hunt. Yeah, I think they're on the outside
- 39:02Speaker 1: looking in. I think Denver in particular, is not a lock. Yeah, Like,
- 39:08Speaker 1: I'm not just automatically anointing them as being a playoff
- 39:11Speaker 1: team just because they got Russell Wilson. I think they
- 39:13Speaker 1: will be. I think they will be. I think they're
- 39:16Speaker 1: going to be right in the mix. But there's a
- 39:19Speaker 1: you know, a transition that needs to happen. They're same
- 39:22Speaker 1: with Cleveland, but there are other teams that are getting
- 39:25Speaker 1: better that are sort of like Cincinnati is making progress,
- 39:30Speaker 1: and you know, maybe they lost the Super Bowl, so
- 39:33Speaker 1: maybe they have a step back, which is often what
- 39:36Speaker 1: happens to teams that lose the Super Bowl, right, yep.
- 39:39Speaker 1: So that's that's that's a real thing. But at the
- 39:43Speaker 1: same time, like Baltimore isn't probably going to lose its
- 39:46Speaker 1: entire roster to injuries this year. Yea. So even if
- 39:49Speaker 1: Cincinnati takes a step back and Baltimore is back to normal,
- 39:53Speaker 1: the Chargers, yeah, they're going to have a third year
- 39:56Speaker 1: quarterback who's getting better, with a roster around him that's
- 39:59Speaker 1: getting better, and a defense that was absolutely wretched last
- 40:03Speaker 1: year that on paper has improved. Ye So again, so
- 40:06Speaker 1: now we're talking, well, maybe the Chargers route moves won't
- 40:08Speaker 1: won't work. And maybe the Raiders moves won't work. Maybe
- 40:10Speaker 1: DeVante Adams got the contract and he's cooked, right, you know,
- 40:14Speaker 1: he's twenty nine years old. But maybe too many of them.
- 40:18Speaker 1: But the logic tells you that a couple of these
- 40:22Speaker 1: teams that made these moves are gonna have that bump
- 40:24Speaker 1: that the Patriots got last year. Right, and we were
- 40:27Speaker 1: on the fringe last year. You're gonna improved by two
- 40:29Speaker 1: or three games. If the Chargers improved by three games
- 40:32Speaker 1: like the Patriots did, then they were a lock for
- 40:34Speaker 1: the playoffs. Yeah, and look at the Colts. I mean,
- 40:37Speaker 1: the Colts were like a win away from making the
- 40:39Speaker 1: Pots lost the last game of the season to the
- 40:42Speaker 1: Jacksonville Right to miss the playoffs. So you got to
- 40:45Speaker 1: imagine with Matt Ryan, they're gonna be better, you know.
- 40:48Speaker 1: So I just have to be honest Patriots fans right now,
- 40:52Speaker 1: you know, it's we're not there yet. We've got like
- 40:55Speaker 1: five and a half months before the first game that matters,
- 40:59Speaker 1: um and that's a long time. But right now they've
- 41:03Speaker 1: fallen behind. Yeah, and again I think maybe their focus
- 41:08Speaker 1: this year was more draft, right, and like you said,
- 41:12Speaker 1: then that's gonna take some time. Yeah, then we're gonna
- 41:14Speaker 1: have to be a little patient, right, and people are,
- 41:17Speaker 1: you know, but you don't. Fans are very very hard
- 41:20Speaker 1: at being patient. But you don't have a lot of
- 41:23Speaker 1: draft capital. So it's a kind of an odd year
- 41:25Speaker 1: to say, well, we're gonna do that in the draft. Well,
- 41:27Speaker 1: you got to hit at least on your first three picks. Yeah, well,
- 41:30Speaker 1: who does that. I'm not gonna I'm not gonna kill
- 41:34Speaker 1: Bill Belichick if he doesn't do that. No, I know,
- 41:36Speaker 1: but they did last year and they need to do
- 41:37Speaker 1: that again. You know, what do you mean? No, Well,
- 41:41Speaker 1: what do you make it faces about? I'm not gonna
- 41:44Speaker 1: be I'm not. And what's the third one? Well, they
- 41:49Speaker 1: got three picks. Three, they got three guys that contributed.
- 41:52Speaker 1: They had their quarterback was one of them. Okay, okay,
- 41:55Speaker 1: so out of the rest of normal picks, I would
- 41:59Speaker 1: say barmb or as a slam dunk. And you have
- 42:01Speaker 1: and Stevenson and you have a running back who played
- 42:04Speaker 1: well half the year. Okay, So if he's not going
- 42:06Speaker 1: to be enough for you, if if you can get
- 42:08Speaker 1: three guys that contribute, and I love Stevenson and wanted him,
- 42:12Speaker 1: by the way, to play before Bill did. Well, you
- 42:14Speaker 1: know more than Bill. No. But but my point is
- 42:17Speaker 1: you're gonna draft three guys that he's probably going to
- 42:20Speaker 1: be reluctant to put in the lineup when you think
- 42:23Speaker 1: he should. I don't think I shouldn't say you when
- 42:25Speaker 1: everybody else thinks that's fair, you can say me. And
- 42:27Speaker 1: I think this year it's a little different mindset than
- 42:29Speaker 1: last year. I think last year they might have thought
- 42:32Speaker 1: they were said yeah, yeah, But I think this year,
- 42:35Speaker 1: why do you think that anything has changed? They brought
- 42:37Speaker 1: the whole team back. They did not, Oh, for crying
- 42:41Speaker 1: out loud, They retained all the guys. They brought back
- 42:44Speaker 1: James White, who didn't really play last year. They brought
- 42:48Speaker 1: back Bentley, who is probably of all the linebackers. We
- 42:51Speaker 1: said he's the one guy we would bring back, and
- 42:54Speaker 1: they brought back mccordion Slater. That's it, right, So mccordy
- 42:57Speaker 1: and Bentley, you're going to prevent the guys that I
- 42:59Speaker 1: want to play play to from playing. We'll say about that.
- 43:02Speaker 1: I mean, you know they're gonna I mean, no rookie
- 43:05Speaker 1: is gonna come in and play over Devin mccordy. Well,
- 43:09Speaker 1: I mean we don't know my plan, but maybe Dougger
- 43:12Speaker 1: and Phillips play more. I mean, he's nine million, Well
- 43:15Speaker 1: they play. They'll play plenty in Phillips, just like they
- 43:18Speaker 1: did last year. But it's the same. But my point
- 43:20Speaker 1: is you can't take the same team you did last
- 43:22Speaker 1: year basically come back with the same thing and then say, well,
- 43:25Speaker 1: it's gonna be different this year with the way he
- 43:27Speaker 1: employs the personnel, like not going to be team. It's
- 43:30Speaker 1: not the same team. It's virtually the same team. And
- 43:32Speaker 1: there's gonna be a couple of linebackers mixed in. That's it,
- 43:37Speaker 1: guys back, it's gonna be the guys that couldn't stop
- 43:40Speaker 1: the run last year are all gonna be. They have
- 43:43Speaker 1: to bring in corners, right, yes they will, but but
- 43:49Speaker 1: who Tres Mitchell? I don't know the answer to that.
- 43:53Speaker 1: I do. They signed Terrence Mitchell. Okay, he's not gonna
- 43:56Speaker 1: he's not the end. But if they draft I know
- 43:58Speaker 1: Andrew Booth in the first round, you gotta he's gotta
- 44:01Speaker 1: figure he's gonna start, right, Okay, If you tell me
- 44:05Speaker 1: a first round corner is not going to start, I
- 44:08Speaker 1: don't see it. I mean, maybe Chi Dowling started. I guess, so,
- 44:12Speaker 1: I guess the president is there. He was a second
- 44:14Speaker 1: round pick, so a first round pick should be a starter. No,
- 44:18Speaker 1: I know, let me know when he does that. Mac
- 44:21Speaker 1: Jones is the answer to the question, like he doesn't
- 44:25Speaker 1: like to do it. I just don't see it happening.
- 44:27Speaker 1: I just think he's in. I mean, who is he
- 44:29Speaker 1: gonna put out there? Is you're gonna put Terrence and
- 44:31Speaker 1: Mitchell ahead of your first round pick. I couldn't see that. No,
- 44:36Speaker 1: Jalen Mills, Yeah, I think. But I think the whole
- 44:40Speaker 1: thing is the mind. Like I said, the mindset for
- 44:43Speaker 1: this season might be different than last season, where they thought,
- 44:45Speaker 1: you know, we get it shot, we could you know,
- 44:47Speaker 1: catch a little lightning in a bottle with I don't
- 44:50Speaker 1: think so. You think that they had more confidence going
- 44:52Speaker 1: into last year with a rookie quarterback than they will
- 44:54Speaker 1: this year with that same rookie quarterback who won ten
- 44:57Speaker 1: games entering his second year. Yeah, I think that last
- 45:00Speaker 1: year's team was capable of more than this year. Yeah,
- 45:02Speaker 1: because I think last year, you know, you wanted to
- 45:05Speaker 1: rely heavily on your defense in your run, and your
- 45:08Speaker 1: defense failed you toward the end. I think this year,
- 45:10Speaker 1: they're not gonna I think they're gonna be a little
- 45:12Speaker 1: bit more realistic that way and say, Okay, we're not
- 45:16Speaker 1: going to be able to hold teams, you know, under
- 45:19Speaker 1: twenty four points every game in order to give our
- 45:22Speaker 1: offense a shot. I think it's gonna take a little time.
- 45:25Speaker 1: So I think young players may get more of a
- 45:28Speaker 1: chance this year than last year. The ones they have
- 45:32Speaker 1: and the ones that they bring you. I think the
- 45:34Speaker 1: ones they already have at that are almost aren't really
- 45:37Speaker 1: young anymore. They're interning like their third year. But those
- 45:40Speaker 1: guys I think will play. I don't think that sight unseen.
- 45:43Speaker 1: You're just gonna pencil in your top three draft picks
- 45:46Speaker 1: as prominent roles. Didn't accord he start as a rookie. Yeah,
- 45:50Speaker 1: there are always outliers. They're always outliers. I'm not telling
- 45:54Speaker 1: I'm not telling you he never did it. I just
- 45:56Speaker 1: told you ROSSI Dowling was the thirty third pick of
- 45:58Speaker 1: the draft. He started Week one, never played again, but
- 46:01Speaker 1: he started week one. So I'm not going to tell
- 46:02Speaker 1: you that Bill will never do it, because I've been
- 46:05Speaker 1: down that road before. There's nothing that Bill will never
- 46:08Speaker 1: I just think again, you know, we have to look
- 46:11Speaker 1: at it completely different than we have history, because history
- 46:14Speaker 1: included Tom Brady. Now it doesn't. I'm just looking at
- 46:17Speaker 1: the post Tom Brady era. Yeah, I know, I don't
- 46:19Speaker 1: play the young guys I'm going by by now I'm not.
- 46:22Speaker 1: This is my point. I could give you a million
- 46:24Speaker 1: Richard Seymour's and Matt Matt Lights, Vince Wilford, Vince Will.
- 46:28Speaker 1: I mean guys that played prominent roles right out of
- 46:30Speaker 1: the Rod Mayo. That doesn't happen anymore very often. Well,
- 46:34Speaker 1: this is my point. Yeah, let's let's the post Brady
- 46:38Speaker 1: era is different, like those guys haven't played. Yeah, right,
- 46:41Speaker 1: I think I think in whether it was Bill or
- 46:44Speaker 1: pressure from ownership, I think there was a little pressure.
- 46:47Speaker 1: We gotta stay relevant. We gotta we withss the playoffs
- 46:50Speaker 1: one year. We can't do that two years in a row. Um.
- 46:53Speaker 1: I agree that that was part of the impetus for
- 46:56Speaker 1: the free agency free last year. Everybody just says it
- 46:59Speaker 1: was storm, but I think there was. But I think
- 47:02Speaker 1: it was also opportunity. They were the only team that
- 47:05Speaker 1: really had a lot of money. I don't think Bill
- 47:07Speaker 1: wanted to do that. Well I don't know, but they
- 47:09Speaker 1: did it, and they I think they took advantage of
- 47:12Speaker 1: an opportunity. I do, I don't you know, Um, I
- 47:15Speaker 1: think in a lot of ways they're paying for it. Well,
- 47:19Speaker 1: you know, I I listen. You know, I think Hunter
- 47:23Speaker 1: Henry is a good player. I'm glad he's on the team.
- 47:25Speaker 1: I'm glad Borne's on the team. You know, you gotta
- 47:29Speaker 1: you gotta pay somebody. You're just not difference makers. Yeah,
- 47:33Speaker 1: all right, Um, I think I'm just cautioning everybody. I
- 47:38Speaker 1: think this could be that one. I've told people they
- 47:41Speaker 1: aren't in the hunt. I just cautioning now, his finger
- 47:46Speaker 1: wagging everybody, I said, you do want to put me
- 47:48Speaker 1: on on the lets That's why I'm saying. I wasn't
- 47:51Speaker 1: expecting that out of you. You know, he doesn't even
- 47:53Speaker 1: let me finish my sentence. I said, I'm just cautioning
- 47:57Speaker 1: people to not have your expectation manager expectations. They could
- 48:02Speaker 1: take a step back to this could be that Bridge year.
- 48:04Speaker 1: You know, this could be that Bridge year, and then
- 48:08Speaker 1: next year we watched it out. We liked out when
- 48:12Speaker 1: those teams have to pay their guys like that rocket.
- 48:17Speaker 1: You know, we like that rocket next year. So it's
- 48:22Speaker 1: you know, you have to take that one year where
- 48:24Speaker 1: you take a hit. Yeah. The only part could be
- 48:27Speaker 1: more than a year. The only part that I would
- 48:28Speaker 1: disagree with you is I can't fathom, for the life
- 48:30Speaker 1: of me, how they thought more of a team with
- 48:33Speaker 1: a rookie quarterback than they do when said rookie quarterback
- 48:36Speaker 1: had a promising rookie year and now was in year two. Yeah,
- 48:39Speaker 1: but they don't think there was good now, Like, I
- 48:42Speaker 1: don't understand how that works. Well, I just think because
- 48:44Speaker 1: of the defense, I really do, the defense is going
- 48:47Speaker 1: to be what what it is like. So they're not
- 48:51Speaker 1: playing with cornerbacks this year. They lost Jase Jackson, Fred Yeah,
- 48:57Speaker 1: that's it. Every other member of the second area that
- 49:00Speaker 1: played last year is bad. I know. But you had
- 49:02Speaker 1: Jonathan Joe at the beginning, missed the last half of
- 49:04Speaker 1: the year. Yeah, and remember last year at the beginning,
- 49:06Speaker 1: we're like, well, you know, Gilmore will come back second
- 49:08Speaker 1: half they you know, so really to what we're still
- 49:11Speaker 1: out there by the way, Yeah, what we thought the
- 49:13Speaker 1: defense was gonna be last him and Malcolm Butler. Yeah, listen,
- 49:17Speaker 1: I'm fight over who is twenty four they've got. I
- 49:19Speaker 1: think they've got twenty shoes on defense. You know, that's
- 49:23Speaker 1: the Paulist thing ever. But it was like, you're gonna
- 49:27Speaker 1: have it. I were twenty one, twenty one. You know,
- 49:29Speaker 1: unless all these unless all these guys that haven't been
- 49:32Speaker 1: playing suddenly start playing and are better than what they
- 49:37Speaker 1: had last year, I think the defense is going to
- 49:40Speaker 1: take a step back. I think the defense would be
- 49:42Speaker 1: better this year than it was last year. You do, yeah, Okay,
- 49:45Speaker 1: I don't think that'll be good enough. But I think
- 49:47Speaker 1: those young guys depends on how much. But I don't.
- 49:49Speaker 1: I don't think my feelings the guys, if if they play,
- 49:54Speaker 1: will be better than the guys they're replacing last year's
- 49:57Speaker 1: version of the guys. Yeah, yeah, not the career I'm
- 50:00Speaker 1: not telling you is better than High Tower, of course.
- 50:02Speaker 1: I'm telling you Jay can be better than High Tower
- 50:04Speaker 1: was last year. Okay, like you were saying about Big
- 50:07Speaker 1: Ben and Tisky, right, all right, then we're back, baby.
- 50:13Speaker 1: Let's get back to the differences around the AFC. That's
- 50:16Speaker 1: why I think Friend's mindset is right. Yeah. I think
- 50:19Speaker 1: when you look around the AFC and you see four
- 50:21Speaker 1: or five six teams with markedly more talent than they
- 50:24Speaker 1: had last year when you already like you beat you
- 50:29Speaker 1: beat the Chargers, you lost to the Colts, you lost
- 50:31Speaker 1: to the Dolphins twice. Those are the teams that you're
- 50:33Speaker 1: you're sort of like minded with. Yeah, and those teams
- 50:37Speaker 1: look like I don't know about Miami, but those teams
- 50:39Speaker 1: look like they've gotten better Indie the Chargers, and you haven't,
- 50:44Speaker 1: right your sort of status quo. Even the Bills, I mean,
- 50:48Speaker 1: well the Bills were already yeah, they were already good.
- 50:51Speaker 1: But like the last two games were eye openers for
- 50:53Speaker 1: even Patriots fans to not be able to make a
- 50:57Speaker 1: team punt team punting two games, yeah, I've never seen
- 51:01Speaker 1: that point. When the second one was was even more
- 51:03Speaker 1: dramatically because it wasn't just punted. They didn't stop them
- 51:07Speaker 1: from getting into the ends. Yeah, they scored every time.
- 51:09Speaker 1: I mean, that's that's a whooping. That's a whooping. And remember,
- 51:14Speaker 1: you know, like we said the other game, we had
- 51:16Speaker 1: the billboard out here that take the Patriots, the Bills
- 51:20Speaker 1: and all that stuff. Boy, we look bad there. Huh.
- 51:24Speaker 1: You know, at least we were ready just in case.
- 51:26Speaker 1: Oh yeah, uh, let's go to Bill in Oklahoma. What's up, Bill, Gent,
- 51:32Speaker 1: I'm a good afternoon. How are y'all okay? All right?
- 51:35Speaker 1: I don't know if y'a I mean, I'm doing great.
- 51:38Speaker 1: I hate to be like doctor Phil and put y'all
- 51:40Speaker 1: on the couch and get y'all calmed down a little bit.
- 51:43Speaker 1: But it's fun here in the feistiness in the off season.
- 51:46Speaker 1: It's really good to hear. So sure, uh quick question.
- 51:50Speaker 1: I don't know if i'll get a consensus or if
- 51:52Speaker 1: y'all want to ask this individually. Answering individually? What are
- 51:55Speaker 1: the top pre position needs in ranked order you could have?
- 52:03Speaker 1: You could have three ties for first, Well, you have
- 52:05Speaker 1: the first one back? Yeah? Yeah, I think cornerback is
- 52:08Speaker 1: the number one you have to replace Jason, Right, what
- 52:12Speaker 1: do you like Booth? I'm just saying I just threw
- 52:14Speaker 1: his name out there. I mean I would say corner
- 52:18Speaker 1: what's the Florida kid? Uh Kayer Elam Yeah right, it's
- 52:22Speaker 1: not how you pronounced his name. I think it's Kayer.
- 52:24Speaker 1: I'd say cornerback maybe. Yeah. See, now I would flip.
- 52:30Speaker 1: It's not that they don't have wide receivers. They don't
- 52:32Speaker 1: have a first wide receiver, so it's that particular wide
- 52:37Speaker 1: receiver that they need. Sure, you know, I just think
- 52:39Speaker 1: they need a dynamic wide receiver if they if Nikil
- 52:42Speaker 1: Harry had worked out, you wouldn't have that problem right now, right,
- 52:45Speaker 1: you wouldn't be worried about that. I wanted a style,
- 52:47Speaker 1: like a guy with a style, you know, a skill
- 52:50Speaker 1: set that they don't have. Right. Cole Beasley still out there.
- 52:53Speaker 1: I know he's not that guy, but believe he's still
- 52:55Speaker 1: out there. Yeah, he's out there. I mean you got
- 52:59Speaker 1: your slot guy with him. Yeah. Paul doesn't like I'll
- 53:03Speaker 1: take Jacoby Myers and they did. I mean, I don't.
- 53:06Speaker 1: You don't like it when I, you know, speak highly
- 53:09Speaker 1: of the guys that are on the rock. I think
- 53:11Speaker 1: Jacobe Myers is better than Colby'sley today. Okay again not
- 53:15Speaker 1: career today, okay, alright, alright, ask question? Yeah, do you
- 53:22Speaker 1: all have any idea of when training camp starts? Has
- 53:24Speaker 1: that been announced it all yet? Or that way too work?
- 53:26Speaker 1: It's normally the last week of July, and it starts
- 53:30Speaker 1: usually on a Wednesday or Thursday, the last Wednesday or
- 53:33Speaker 1: Thursday of July. Brother, get that pushed back a week
- 53:35Speaker 1: this year? Yeah? Well, it was nice last year to
- 53:37Speaker 1: have that weekend at the end of August, which we
- 53:40Speaker 1: don't usually have. But yeah, you're right, I'll take I'll
- 53:42Speaker 1: take the one. You can count that last Wednesday or
- 53:46Speaker 1: Thursday of July of when it starts. Okay, but we're
- 53:49Speaker 1: actually playing in a trip and that would be a
- 53:51Speaker 1: bucket list to see the see the guy's playing, or
- 53:53Speaker 1: at least sure running around a little bit. Yep, all right,
- 53:57Speaker 1: thank you? All right? Bill Bill from Oklahoma. Uh, guess
- 54:01Speaker 1: who's on the line, Melvin and Tennessee. You called him,
- 54:04Speaker 1: sweet kid. He hasn't been calling. I haven't heard from him.
- 54:08Speaker 1: What's up? What's up? Sweet kid? He's been benching too much?
- 54:11Speaker 1: He interacts with us behind your back? What's that? I've
- 54:14Speaker 1: been listening to everybody hate on Bill, So I'm just
- 54:17Speaker 1: sitting back listening. Yeah, everybody who's Brian? I know? I mean,
- 54:25Speaker 1: I'm just sitting back listening. Yeah, that's fine. What you've
- 54:28Speaker 1: been up to? I'm nothing much. Yeah, relaxing. I'm building
- 54:32Speaker 1: me a little theater room. So I got a lot
- 54:34Speaker 1: of stuff designing. So that's really what i've been doing.
- 54:36Speaker 1: And work actually makes me work sometimes, I guess. But whatever,
- 54:39Speaker 1: I want to talk on them radio. So you're building
- 54:41Speaker 1: you're building a little man cave. Yep, yea being a
- 54:45Speaker 1: little man cave. But I'm a little childhood. So I've
- 54:48Speaker 1: been working on that. That's about it. What what size
- 54:50Speaker 1: TV you're going with? Sixty five? That's big sixty five
- 54:56Speaker 1: eight pretty it's a pretty nice it's pretty new. It
- 54:58Speaker 1: just came out this past year. So yeah, walll mounted
- 55:01Speaker 1: or on the stand mounted for that one. Okay, all right, yeah,
- 55:06Speaker 1: I did it myself. But nice. I got a simple questions.
- 55:10Speaker 1: It's a remarkably easy to do. Is I'm as incompetent
- 55:15Speaker 1: as they come, and I did that, I'd missed the
- 55:16Speaker 1: stud it would fall out, it would be It's pretty easy. Yes,
- 55:20Speaker 1: it's pretty game Fred to new pev No. But simple question, Well,
- 55:28Speaker 1: how do you prepare an athlete like mac jone. Let's
- 55:31Speaker 1: say if somebody hadn't really played in that type of weather,
- 55:35Speaker 1: how do you prepare him for like playing in New
- 55:39Speaker 1: England with so we might actually be able to throw
- 55:40Speaker 1: the ball in some particular games with the win and
- 55:43Speaker 1: the code weather. I know he's played in code weather,
- 55:45Speaker 1: but I imagine it beats It's a little bit different.
- 55:47Speaker 1: But somebody like me, for example, who hates anything below
- 55:51Speaker 1: damn near forty degrees. Yeah, I mean that's that's the
- 55:53Speaker 1: way he looked, to be honest with you. I mean,
- 55:55Speaker 1: the only way you can do it is take every
- 55:57Speaker 1: advantage you can in practice when this bad weather. Just
- 56:00Speaker 1: gotta get him out there, just gotta get used to
- 56:02Speaker 1: just gotta get used to it. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I
- 56:05Speaker 1: was just wondering because you know, of course, is the
- 56:07Speaker 1: web is different now, so athletes like that they don't
- 56:10Speaker 1: really have They got time to practice now, but you
- 56:12Speaker 1: can't really replicate that type of you know, web engine,
- 56:16Speaker 1: you know situations. So I don't know, I don't know
- 56:19Speaker 1: how long they'll take him to get used to it,
- 56:21Speaker 1: but I'll be does because you know you're gonna have
- 56:23Speaker 1: to You're gonna have to do that up there, playing
- 56:25Speaker 1: up there. But's Brady playing in California. He got used
- 56:28Speaker 1: to it. I mean you can do it, Brady. Oh yeah,
- 56:32Speaker 1: that's true. You have to send you have to send
- 56:34Speaker 1: Mac to like uh, Norway or the Antarctic. Aaron Rodgers
- 56:40Speaker 1: in the offseason. Aaron Rodgers did play at California. You
- 56:42Speaker 1: got that one, right, Yeah, Bully for you, Fred, you
- 56:45Speaker 1: got that one right. Now. He's in the coldest of
- 56:47Speaker 1: the cold stadiums, you know. So it's all about hand size,
- 56:53Speaker 1: all right, thanks, Max's hands are frying. Yeah, they're average.
- 56:57Speaker 1: It's about hand size. If you have small hands, it's
- 56:59Speaker 1: tough and the cold. What's what's this now? I heard
- 57:03Speaker 1: an eight? Yeah? Oh god, can you believe that we
- 57:07Speaker 1: talk about it. It's like it's real, like we really talk.
- 57:10Speaker 1: Abo went from eight and a half to eight. I mean,
- 57:15Speaker 1: but that is his hand. That's a small hand. Combine
- 57:18Speaker 1: to prod that's a small hand for a quarterback. But
- 57:23Speaker 1: it is. It's definitely and when you see him gripped
- 57:25Speaker 1: the ball, it's way at the end. But he also
- 57:27Speaker 1: had talked to it. And I have no idea if
- 57:29Speaker 1: this is accurate or just you know, sort of a rationalization.
- 57:33Speaker 1: Evidently he has a sort of unorthodox grip where this
- 57:39Speaker 1: like the between his thumb uh finger zab normally large
- 57:45Speaker 1: and he's able to wrap around the football that way.
- 57:48Speaker 1: Why he like I don't know if he's double jointed,
- 57:52Speaker 1: but it's a way that he I guess compensates. But
- 57:55Speaker 1: I mean eight and five eight, that's a small hand.
- 57:57Speaker 1: Now when they measured the hand, is it go from
- 57:59Speaker 1: the wrist to the top of the I believe it
- 58:01Speaker 1: from Pinky. Yes, I think Fred's right. Yeah, Pinky like this,
- 58:06Speaker 1: like I have a really small head. Yeah, it's the
- 58:08Speaker 1: only thing that's wow. I have big Italian stallion, big stomach.
- 58:15Speaker 1: Italian did you head? Now? I know we used to
- 58:18Speaker 1: talk about the coke spoons, but did you wear the
- 58:20Speaker 1: Italian horn? You know what I'm talking about it. I
- 58:23Speaker 1: did wear an Italian horn. I did. Was fertility right,
- 58:26Speaker 1: it's to ward off the evil spirits? Oh yeah I
- 58:29Speaker 1: didn't know that. Yeah, I just you just wore it. Yeah.
- 58:33Speaker 1: My grandmother brought one back from Sicily. Oh nice. Yeah,
- 58:37Speaker 1: my dad had one hanging in the garage all the time.
- 58:40Speaker 1: I was a little Italian horn. My grandmother and I
- 58:42Speaker 1: Camela went to Sicily on Camela from Famous Stories from
- 58:45Speaker 1: Famous Stories. That was like mid seventies, late seventies, okay,
- 58:51Speaker 1: And I yeah, I wore I actually wore that. I
- 58:53Speaker 1: never took it off for chain time. Um yeah I was.
- 58:57Speaker 1: I was a gold chain guy. Um but no, like
- 59:00Speaker 1: uh sweatsuit not yeah, not a gavone. God like I
- 59:03Speaker 1: didn't have them like hanging out one give the only
- 59:07Speaker 1: one listening and knows what I'm talking about. Chris with
- 59:09Speaker 1: the tia, and we'll know that's true. He'll get that.
- 59:11Speaker 1: He'll get that. So he had like a thin like
- 59:13Speaker 1: a thin gold It's just a regular gold chain, and
- 59:15Speaker 1: I woard inside, not like a run DMC rope. No. No,
- 59:18Speaker 1: I did have a rope chain at one point, but
- 59:20Speaker 1: not again, not like hanging out or anything like that
- 59:23Speaker 1: with his track suit zipped up half. No, I never
- 59:25Speaker 1: had the trip. Well, if you want, you had, but
- 59:29Speaker 1: that was more for skillots, not for like lounge right,
- 59:33Speaker 1: not for fashion. Yeah right, all right, guy, lunch just
- 59:38Speaker 1: got delivered by marine my gold. So we're gonna take
- 59:41Speaker 1: a little break. And when we come back, we get

- 1:08:52Speaker 1: check out this snippet from Drew Bledsoe on the latest
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: episode of Pats from the Past podcast. Do you realize
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: how much the region loves you? Did it take maybe
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: that Hall of Fame induction weekend with everything that had
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: gone on, everything like that we talked earlier about, you know,
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: you're part of the Holy Trinity. Man, it's you, it's parcels,
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: it's craft, That's what built this. Do you realize that
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: there's legions of Patriot fans that love you for that?
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: You know? I do. Um. It's really fun for me
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: now when I go back because the the people that
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: were fans then or are older now, and I feel
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: like they have this really strong um um feeling that
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: we're buddies. And I feel that way too, you know.
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: So I walk down the street and instead of you know, hey,
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: we gotta get a self here signed this autograph, like, hey, Drew,
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: how you do a man? Good? Good? How's the wine
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: business good? You know, and it's and it's you know,
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: high five and keep moving. Um. But the the Hall
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: of Fame induction was really really cool and it was
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: it was Honestly, it was really great closure for my family,
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: you know, because I think i'd kind of pross sut
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: was was was through it. And but for my family,
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: you know, when something happens to somebody that you love,
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: it's more painful than when it happens to you. And
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: we've all experienced that in our lives. And for my
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: family to feel like I wasn't treated, you know, properly, um,
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: to be out there and to stand there and to
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: hear that ovation from that stadium that day, um, it
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: was a great closure for for mom and dad, my brother,
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: for my wife. Um, you know, I was a great
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: closure for them as well. That's a little snippet from
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: Patch from the Past with no socks. Matt Smith and
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: Brian Morey everybody's favorite UM Hall of Fame except that
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: my sands Brian Morey. Oh it was that was just Matt,
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: just Matt. Matt and I were going to do it together,
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: but we had some concerns about me being on the
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: East coast and Matt being on the West coast. Okay,
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: Matt was actually out Withdrew um at his wineryact. Yeah,
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: I think it would. I would have had more consumes
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: if you were out in the West coast Withdrew. So
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: that was just a Drew would have had the concerns
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: that because I raised my hand when when he was
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: talking about the guys who sort of grew up with
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: him and then they sort of think that they were buddies.
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: That's me. That's me. Yeah, so you and means buddies, right,
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: what Pal's right? Drew? Yeah, like scrappy doo s. That
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: was just a snippet. And uh, you know you'll find
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: out is Drew Bledsoe a football player who is now
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: in the wine business or is he a wine businessman
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: who was once a football player. The answer may surprise
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: you who wrote that. That was the That was the
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: most natural tease that I've ever heard anybody. You should
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: get into radio. Yeah, yeah, but the pass of the past.
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: If you if you don't listen to Matt's laughing, if
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: you don't listen to them, you should there's a whole
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: bunch of them. Yeah, they're good and um they're good.
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: You know you catch up with former Patriots players, it's
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: it's good stuff. So this is the latest drop Drew Bledsoe.
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: But uh, Pats from the Past podcast that look that
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: it's like unlike most of them, what you're done in
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: the studio or sometimes like uh, you know, via the
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: video conference like that. That's one that seems like it
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: could have lent itself to a video version as well
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: because the scenery of the winery and it will be
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: will it's not going to be the exact podcast, but
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: they're gonna do a feature on his wine. Oh good,
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: that's why they were out there. Yeah, they weren't out
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: there to do the the Pats in the Past from
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: the Past. Yeah, so you have that to look forward
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: to as well. Yeah, okay, the podcast, yeah, yea, the
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: d y J. Yeah all right. Um. Web Radio at
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: Patriots dot com is the email address. We got a
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: lot of emails coming in, so we read something I
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: will uh. First one is from Joel and he says,
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: I was curious to hear the PEU cruise opinion on
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: the state of the Patriots. Did the Patriots become better,
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: worse or the same after the first week of free agency.
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: That's one question I think about this. I think the same.
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: Did the Patriots ranking in the AFC become better worse
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: than the same after the first week in free agency? Worse?
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: Probably all think worse. Yep? Do you all agree that
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: we have a bottom five assistant slash coordinator coaching in
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: the league? Not not talking about Bill? I can't really
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: kind of hard to separate those two. I think we
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: got two former head coaches. I think we're in good shape.
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: Do you agree that if Bill decided to retire today
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: and the current coaching staff and players stay in place,
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: we are probably picking fifth overall in the twenty twenty
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: three draft meanings the who's the head coach of building? Well,
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: that's he doesn't It doesn't matter to him, he thinks, Okay, Yeah,
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: I mean it's I need more, a little bit more information,
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: hard with hypotheticals. So another would you're telling me, with
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: the current roster and no Belichick, the five win team? Yeah,
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: I think that might be generous. And he's saying, basically,
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: we stink, But let's look at a positive side. We
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: overpaid for a thirty five slash forty five free safety
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: that's past his prime. Fo Okay, well he's not happy
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: signed Paul, He's not happy with the free agent resignings.
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: I'm not happy that they beside all of them, Like,
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: if you could have convinced me, well, you know one
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: from moral fine, I think there was room to sign
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: some younger talent as well. I just also think it's
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: a little it's a little unrealistic for some people to
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: think that, you know, you go, first of all, you
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: had twenty years of a dynasty, greatest quarterback of all
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: time played for you for that that span, that you
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: were immediately going to continue the dynasty run immediately, no
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: brakes whatsoever. I'm not gonna take any steps back. I
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: think people are just I don't know anyone who thought that.
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: I mean a lot of the people that ran into
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: the show, people think like, what are we gonna do?
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: How are we gonna get back to where we were?
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: But here's where I this is ridiculous. The people that
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: thought it was all Belichick. Here here's where I disagree
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: with what Paul saying. Yes, they could have signed some
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: younger players, but I don't think that them signing James
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: White and the three other guys precluded them from doing that.
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: I don't think that that's what they're telling us. No,
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: they're not. I don't know what they're telling us. But
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: i'd read any of the stuff but from the writers,
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: which I know where it comes from. But I don't
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: think signing James White or signing Bentley, Slater or mccordy
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: is the reason why they haven't signed younger players. Yeah,
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: I would take Bentley out of the equation. The other
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: guys I think they have. So Okay, when you give
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: nine million dollars and you supposedly are tight in cap space,
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: that's nine million dollars you can't sign young But I know,
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: but I'm not buying that. Okay, I don't think I
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: think that's their excuse. But I don't buy it either.
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: I don't think that that kept them or could keep
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: them from signing younger players, you know, like, it's not
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: they didn't sign those guys to the detriment of the team.
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: In other way words, you know, we'll see, Yeah, we'll see.
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: I mean, they can still sign younger players. There's nothing
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: stopping them from doing it. I agree, you know, I
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: totally agree with that, But that is the reason that
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: is being put forth by a lot of the local media, Well,
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: they're wrong that they're up against it in the Cape.
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: They're they're wrong, right, Have you not heard that? I
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: think micguel has the numbers all the time. They're gonna
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: need another two or three million for their draft picks
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: and operating costs, and that's going to be they can
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: if they if there's young players they want to sign,
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: they can create space. I agree, they can create space.
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: They're gonna have to do things to create that space,
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: but they can. And I don't think that signing those
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: other guys keeps I think the bigger problem that people
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: aren't talking about, and it's not anything that's provable. It's
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: completely anecdotal. I think you're right, Fred, I don't think
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: this is a cap space issue. But I think what
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: they want to do is they want to continue, Yeah,
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: be interested in this guy, that guy and the other guy,
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: but I want to do it on my terms. And
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: they're finding out that when you're not the only one
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: with money, it's hard and you're not willing to overpay
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: like you did for the vast majority of the guys
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: you signed last year. They're not going to pick you. Oh,
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: that's fair enough, you know, you know, but like, I'm not, like,
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: but I'm not down on these signings that they have made.
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: How can you not be? I can't understand that because
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: I don't think I'm it's fair to be down that
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: they haven't signed young players. But I don't blame them,
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: these young guys for I mean the older guys for
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: not being for not signing those players. Did you think
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: they were good last year when the season ended? No? So, like,
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: why would you be in favor of bringing a lot
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: of those pieces back because you need some veteran leadership,
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: you need some Yeah, and they don't have a lot
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: right now. These are the guys. These are the guys.
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: These are the some that we're talking about. You know,
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: you need some circle the wagon. I think you need
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: one of those guys. They signed three of them. Yeah,
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: I I disagree. I you know, they need to do more,
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: But I don't think this keeps them from doing like
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: we could. We could really nitpick all of this, and
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: again there's no answers to it, so it's kind of useless.
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: But you guys know what I think of James White.
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: You know how much love them is there? Like no
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: chance that j J. Taylor could play. You signed Time Montgomery?
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: Is there no chance that he can't fill that role
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: instead of JJ, instead of James White? He might So
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: they're gonna cut White or he may just not play.
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know. They signed him to do
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: a two year deal. Yeah, but these are the little
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: things I'm talking about, Like, but there's a young James White,
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: isn't good if Time Montgomery can play, James White isn't
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: gonna keep him from playing, is what I'm saying. Well,
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: where is he gonna play? You didn't sight he's a
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: pass catching running He may not play that much, So
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: why you sign him to a two year deal? Right?
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: There's a lot of guys on two year deals that
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: may not play. Not everybody's on a one year proof,
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: So that would be a bad, bad signing. Then if
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: he doesn't play, I mean, you have to sign players,
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: you have to fill your roster. I'd rather you know,
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: I know, But they they would seem to have a
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: little bit of a glut at running back, which they
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: always do, and we always say, oh were they gonna
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: do with all these running backs? And then they end
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: up using them all They'll get rid of one of
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: them is what they'll do that, that's what they did
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: last or they could do that. Yeah, so we don't
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: even know. We don't even know what I think James
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: White was. We love you, James White signing because you
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: don't even know how. Don't sign a guy for two
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: years because I love you. You don't even know how
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: he's gonna be. They think he's going to be back
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: in that role this year, and I, for one, I'm
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: hoping he is because I love the guy, absolutely love
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: the guy, and he's far superior to Ty Montgomery. Brandon
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: Bolden last year was better than Ty Montgomery. Brandon Bolden
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: had a good year last Oh he had a great year.
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: Thank goodness. You know, you take him out of the
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: equation as close as they were not making the playoffs.
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: He that could be a reason why. Now what I
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: don't know is JJ Taylor, because they've never let him
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: do anything for any extended period of time. Small hands.
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: Maybe maybe that's why. Maybe he's got small hands. Christen Colfax, California.
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: With everyone complaining about Bill not going out and spending
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: money on free agents, is there a chance people are
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: mad at the wrong guy? Is there a chance Craft
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: is not allowing Bill to spend much of his money
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: this year, With the additions to the stadium and all that,
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: Craft is spending a lot and maybe looking to save
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: money at the cost of the team. For the last
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: twenty years, he has stood back and let Bill do
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: his thing. But could he be going the way of
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: Jerry Jones and start meddling with the team? I hope not.
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: You know, I don't think that's it. I don't think so,
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: because if you're Robert Craft, right and you're paying you
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: know all the reports, you're paying Bill lot of money.
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: You know, if you start meddling, then you don't have
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: an excuse if the time comes right, Yeah, you know,
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: you gotta let Bill do his thing. That's what you're
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: paying him to do. I also don't think I mean, listen,
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: they spent a ton of money last offseason, so there
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: was not any way a possibility that they're going to
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: do it all again one million guaranteed. So I don't
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: think people are upset that the Patriots haven't spent money.
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: I think people are upset that they haven't spent money
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: on guys that they want, right, which is, by the way,
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: two totally different things. What they normally do Like, what
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: if we're normally we're watching the whole thing go by us? Right?
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: What if what if instead of Tie Montgomery and um
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: Terrence Mitchell they signed d J. Chark. Yeah, you think
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: people would be happy or be pissy that they didn't
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: spend any money. They'd be happy that would have cost
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: you less. Yeah, they'd be happy because they feel like,
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: that's a guy I know right at a position of need, right,
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: and he can help grass is greener yep, yep. Right.
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: That that's and again that doesn't mean it's right. Eric
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: is right, like everybody always sort of gets upset. Now,
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: I would say it's different now because you didn't need
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: to make a splash every year in free agency when
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: Brady was here. He just needed a couple of tweaks
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: here and there and give some specific things that were,
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: you know, deficient. I think they have deficiencies across the
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: board right now, and you do too, Fred, based on
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: they're not in the hunt. Um Power writes in He's
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: gonna He's gonna hear that one that quite often that
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: one month and mac Jones isn't that good? That was
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: that was that was fake that I have fun with? Yeah, Yeah,
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: they're not in the hunt right now, is real right,
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: They're on the outside looking in right now. I don't
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: think Max's that good. We all know Matt Matt. He
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: doesn't have to have his words right back to him.
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: He knows what he said. He's a big boy. Uh.
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: Paul Pal says, I have a gripe with Paul. I've
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: been listening, Yeah, Pal, it's Pal, oh not Paul Pale Sal.
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: I've been listening to the radio show religiously, going on
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: my fifth season, and I love every episode. But Paul,
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: as of the last half of the season up to now,
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: you have gone off the rails with being a duomer
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: arguing for sport and overall rude. It's taking away from
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: the quality of the show. Sometimes it's almost unbearable to
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: continue through the show when Paul will not let anyone
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: speak without speaking over them louder and give it a
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: rest on taking the opposite side of an opinion, just
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: to be that guy. I don't think he's doing He's
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: not doing that. They're talking over guys. I'll take that criticism.
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: You're as bad and being an argumentative for the sake
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: of being an argumentative. I'll take that. The whole rest
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: of the real reason, the ninety percent of the reason
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: why you're mad at me, it's because I was right.
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: I told you that it wasn't as good as the
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: seven game winning streak. That proved to be correct, and
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: now people like fred Or claiming that they're not in
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: the hunt. So my doom scenario last December turned out
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: to be correct, and now you're upset that I ended
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: up being right. That's ninety percent of the reason why
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: you're upset up. We should let people speak for themselves.
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: But okay, I think he's interpreting the email as he said,
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: So you actually defended me as well as I defended myself. Well,
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: I don't. I don't. I don't argue things for the
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: sake of art. I like to He really does hate
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: the Patriots, It's true. It's not that it's a put on.
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: You really don't think they're in the hunt for the playoffs.
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: I thought to put on either, But for this season,
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: I'm realistic. I am if nothing, think nothing else. First time.
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: If nothing else, I'm very objective. I'm not willing to
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: tell you just so you know, I think against the
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: Patriots a few times. I'm not willing to say that
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: they're not in the playoff hunt. I think that they
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: need some help, but I'm not willing to say there
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: out well, and I'm willing to say they might get
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: that help. So I'm not giving up. It just seems
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: right now, It seems right this moment in time we
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: play Cleveland, right yeah, yeah, So that'll be in the
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: first six weeks of this season, Deshaun Watson will be suspending. Like,
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: I mean, we all know how these yet work, right
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: AJ in the Bay Area? Do you think the Patriots
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: are depending on last year's free agency acquisitions to take
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: another step forward this season and they are holding out
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: on free agency this year in hopes of that. Clearly
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: they saw the lack of talent in the passing game
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: and addressed it last off season. How realistic is it
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: that Smith can take a step forward in his second year?
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: What about Agalore? I consider Born as having a decent
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: showing last year. Has he reached his ceiling yet as
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: a player, even though they swung and missed with Harry?
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: I think they need to acknowledge that as a big
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: need and step up to the plate again for a
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: wide receiver In the first two rounds. Can they draft
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: a corner and wide receiver with the first two draft picks,
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: or is there another need that requires picks that high
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: to address? I would take those two positions for sure.
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: I think there you probably have four or five positions
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: where you could take any combination of them and they
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: could be the first two picks. And I think you'd
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: be right. There are that many needs that they have edge, linebacker,
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: cornerback or receiver, mean o line, Any of those could
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: be the first two picks, depending on, you know, how
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: how the board falls. But his other point is, yes,
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: I hope that the second year of the free agents
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: works out, and yes, I think there's a chance that
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: they could be better. Some of those guys could be
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: better in year two. Yeah, the flip side, I was
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: gonna say, they don't know. That's nothing to do with
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: why they weren't aggressive in free agency, right, And they
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: don't normally spend a lot in free agency to begin with,
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: So the fact that they do normally bring players in though,
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: and they haven't really done that this year, well, and
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: Terrence Mitchell in in time oncome. I mean, also, but
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: to be fair, let's assume they were interested in someone
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: like l Collins or Leonard Fournette or Juju Smith Schuster
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: and those guys decided, Yeah, not quite as attractive a
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: place as it used to be. I'm gonna go somewhere else.
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: We don't know for sure how hard they went after
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: guys like that, and maybe those guys turn them down
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: right way through. Then you have to adjust. Yeah, when
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: you don't have Aaron Rodgers of Tom Brady blah blah blah. Yeah,
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: you have to pay a lot more. You have to. Yeah,
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: And if that's what they did exactly, and when you
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: do that, guys will come. But when you don't, when
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: things are even or even if you just a little
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: bit more, they're gonna go when they can win. If
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: you give a guy the most money, ninety nine percent
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: of the time he'll take it. Yeah. Yeah, So otherwise
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: I think they have to adjust. I mean, Cleveland had
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: a ton of good players, you know, before they got
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: to Shawn Watson, they paid a lot of money. You know,
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: do you think if they because obviously they didn't know
- 1:28:02Speaker 1: last year at this time that they were going to
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: have Mac Jones, and and mac Jones was going to
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: be their starter at this point last year, they didn't
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: know that that's right, that's true. They went in and
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: when did they resign cam? Was that it was the draft? Right? Yeah,
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: it was an it was right before free agency. Oh okay,
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: remember it was right before free agency and right, it
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: was like they wanted to need that, right so they
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: could attract players. And I was thinking, I think that's
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: gonna have the opposite effect, but whatever, Right, So do
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: you think that they spent more last year uncharacteristically for
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: them because they needed to do like you said, Fred,
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: they needed to entice the players to come here with
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: the money, not the quarterback. Do you think that was
- 1:28:43Speaker 1: a factor in why they threw some so much money
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: at I don't think last year it was the money
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: they threw. I mean, Fred's right, they threw They threw
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: a lot of money around and other teams had no money.
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: So teams, you know, teams were deciding, players were deciding
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: between a good out of money in a significantly less
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: amount because of the the oddities of what happened, because
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: remember that the cat went way down. Sure, yeah, everybody
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: had less to spend, but the Patriots had more. They
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: had they just happened to have more that year, Yeah,
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: they did, But I like the Patriots prepared for COVID.
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: They didn't know it was coming either. No, but my, my, my,
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: large have a pandemic plan. No. My larger point though,
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: was about the quarterback, Like they went into last last
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: free agency with thinking Cam was their their starter right
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: at the time, right, And so did they need to
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: entice players to come here more with the money as
- 1:29:39Speaker 1: opposed to saying, Hey, you're coming here to play with
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: fill in the blank quarterback Brady or Roger, You're you're
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: If it was Brady or Rodgers, I don't think they
- 1:29:46Speaker 1: would have had to spend as much. But that's my point,
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: just to you a point. I mean, you did. You
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: did a story on Kendrick Bourne and he flat out
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: can't believe the amount of money. I think was the
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: quote something like, I couldn't believe the amount of money
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: they paid me, Right. So I just wonder if they
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: felt like they really needed to more so because Cam
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: was the quarterback at the time. But it wouldn't have
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: been any different if Mac was the quarterback. But to
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: Fret's point from from our discussion earlier in the show,
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: you know about what they thought heading into a season,
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: it's kind of what like I suppose you could make
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: an argument that they thought when they were building the
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: team and they were higher on the team, that it
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: was with Cam Newton. But I think too much of
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: Bill to think that he thought that Cam Newton was
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: capable of bringing him to heights that. No. I think
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: we can all agree they might have in twenty twenty. Yeah,
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: before it all, yes, well, I think we were all
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: in that, but they took a wholyar in twenty before,
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: before we saw him play in twenty twenty, I think
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: we were all excited about the possibility you could be
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: healthy and that show. We were like, oh my god,
- 1:30:51Speaker 1: you know which you kind of forgot about Cam Newton,
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: which is not for nothing, But like, it's not like
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: I wasn't glooming doing the day they signed Cam Newton. No,
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: like the opposite. I think I thought that was a
- 1:31:02Speaker 1: chance that he could be healthy and rekindle some of
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: his own magic. And I was like with Bill and Josh, yeah,
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: I was on board with that, let's go. It's a
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: great move. Let's go. But as as much as on
- 1:31:12Speaker 1: board as I was with that in twenty twenty, I
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: was against it in twenty one. It was a terrible move.
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: Last year, no one was looking forward to that, and
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: it ultimately worked out for them because they got a
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: quarterback in the draft and they ended up playing him. Anyway,
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: let's get back to the ace ticket outline Williams and
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: fill him. What's up William? Hey William? Well, well, yeah,
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: well I am was it in a playground? I think
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: that's that's here? All right? Uh sorry, William. Let's go
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: to Todd North Carolina. Hey, Todd, Oh, Pauliam it's a
- 1:31:45Speaker 1: pretty good show. Yeah. The last day, Yeah, I apologize.
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: I heard the color protecting me, which is really absurd
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: because most of the time people call him to complain
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: about me. Just ericy. Wow. But what I was the
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: point that's gonna make the other day was just I
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: feel like we're still a little bit too old, Like
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: we got and Henry Andrews, you're too old friends thirty two,
- 1:32:10Speaker 1: Hoyer thirty two, McCarty thirty two, Slater thirty six, White thirty,
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: Mitchell thirty, Folk thirty. We got Montgomery, he's twenty nine.
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: We got we got a twenty nine year old. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: we threw that in there, not just thirty, not just thirty,
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: Todds thirties. Yeah, he just rattled them all off, they're
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: all thirties seven, they're all up there, fulk really thirty seven? Yes,
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: So now we're complaining about Nick Folk, Yeah, I mean
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: and Brian Hoyer. Yeah, I wouldn't complain about Nichol. I
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: think they could use great a backup quarterback. Remind me
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: because I teased that earlier. Yeah, yeah, yeah, Sorry. Are
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: they going to grow with mac Jones? What do you mean?
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: Are they gonna go with gone? No? He's saying, are
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: theys mac Jones? No, they're gonna be gone. He's right,
- 1:32:59Speaker 1: Nick Folk, who cares? Don't focus on don't pull an
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: Andy in Cherry pick one name that he said. Or
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: Brian Hoyer, I mean, come off, he's talking about mccordy
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: in white and Henry Anderson and the guys that are players.
- 1:33:14Speaker 1: He's not talking about the special team's kicker. Let's see
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: who they draft and let's see who they play this year.
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: But I'm actually with Eric. I've got Eric's mindset from
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: last year. I'll be surprised if they do very well.
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: I'll be pleasantly. I just want to see them like
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: for record wise, but I want to see them take
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: steps you don't want to see them take steps, and
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: I don't think you take steps with old guys. I
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: think he takes steps with some youth. Do you have
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: any hope for the draft? Todd? I got some bad news, Eric.
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: I think they might trade out of the first and
- 1:33:44Speaker 1: second round is to get more drafts. Well that's fine,
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: but do you think do you think that the guys
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: that like, let's say they trade down to get like
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: a pair of second round picks, So now suddenly they
- 1:33:53Speaker 1: have like three first three second round picks. Do you
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: have any hope that those guys can contribute right away
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: after last year? I have a little, I have some
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: whole park. I'm actually kind of thinking that there's enough
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: receivers here that I don't think they can go wrong.
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: I think that day two, absolutely, Day two receiver. Todd's right,
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: they can get a good a good receiver on Day two.
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: I'm hoping so too, and not just a receiver, but
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: other So I do have hope. Like I said, I'm
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: not down on the team. I cheer to them since
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: seventy two. For god sick, that's a long time. Yeah,
- 1:34:23Speaker 1: you don't sound that old, Todd. I'm sixty five. I
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: was born in sixty seven. Wow, But you know, I'm excited.
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: I don't know why I'm excited about the new year.
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: I think I think mac Jones will take a leap.
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: I just I think we've got a really good running game.
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: And I'm really just I want to see what they
- 1:34:41Speaker 1: can do. But I'm a little nervous about having a
- 1:34:43Speaker 1: little bit too much old guy on the on the team.
- 1:34:47Speaker 1: That's just my thought process, is it. If you're going
- 1:34:49Speaker 1: to go young and you're looking at the future, go young,
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: don't just kind of find your way. And I don't.
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: I'm not mad about last year because I think last year,
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: I think they actually had an attempt. If if there
- 1:34:59Speaker 1: would have been this one a little bit better step
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: left in High Tower and some of these other guys
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: Bolden had a step left, who knew, Yeah, you know,
- 1:35:05Speaker 1: if some of that would have happened with High Tower
- 1:35:07Speaker 1: and with the linebackers and stuff, there was a chance,
- 1:35:10Speaker 1: if we hadn't gotten a dB hurt, there was a chance.
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: So I think last year wasn't that bad of an effort.
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: And Todd, don't don't get me wrong, I'm gonna be
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: disappointed if they trade down on in the first round.
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: Don't you worry I'll have I'll have a runt for
- 1:35:23Speaker 1: you on draft night if they do that. Yeah, and
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: I went to analysis Ark. I read it. It's really good.
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: It triggered a nice little argument at the end of it. So,
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: oh did it where in the comment? Yeah? I did.
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: I got a little more Pat span on Pat Stan
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: at the bottom of good excellent. So social media is
- 1:35:40Speaker 1: all about right, thanks godd Let's go over to North Carolina.
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: Oh he was staying in North Carolina and North Carolina
- 1:35:49Speaker 1: Eldred can't wait to argue with Paul. What's up? Eldredating
- 1:35:53Speaker 1: is fundamental? Oh you're gonna agree with Paul. Oh that's
- 1:35:58Speaker 1: no fun. Agree with Paul. Paul. I root you one
- 1:36:01Speaker 1: hundred percent. Bro, I agree. I mean all of them
- 1:36:04Speaker 1: thirty just leave me one, you know, just one? And Bill?
- 1:36:08Speaker 1: You got some young I understand, you got the young
- 1:36:11Speaker 1: free agent. You got this corn and green Bay distillman
- 1:36:13Speaker 1: in sign. Yet he's six six three, he's like twenty six.
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: You know, I would take a flower him to take
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: one on Mathis and then you don't. You're gonna let
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: two of your best corners go fil Moore and and JC. So,
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: like I said, you back of the heap again, and
- 1:36:29Speaker 1: then I'm like you, Paul, give him some youth. I'd
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: rather go down fighting with youth and then going down
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: swing if yeah, if Fred is right and they're gonna
- 1:36:39Speaker 1: struggle this year to be in the playoff hunt, then
- 1:36:42Speaker 1: I would rather do that with a roster that is,
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: you know, three years younger by average age. Who are
- 1:36:49Speaker 1: you talking about for green Bay Rosal Douglas he signed, Yeah,
- 1:36:53Speaker 1: he signed, Yeah he's not. Green Bay resigned. Green Bay
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: resigned him. Well in a wind tunnel, all right. Uh,
- 1:37:04Speaker 1: but like I said, you know, just get no Trin Brown.
- 1:37:07Speaker 1: I can understand that that one they had, well, they
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: had to sign Trent Brown because they were desperate. Yeah,
- 1:37:12Speaker 1: I got panic signing. Yeah, but time Montgomery and that
- 1:37:18Speaker 1: those are guys. No, Like I said, I saw on
- 1:37:22Speaker 1: the NFL network that Lenette for Nette was coming in
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: for a workout or looks. Yeah, he was here yesterday
- 1:37:28Speaker 1: for a workout, but he signed this morning with Tampa.
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: Signed back with Tampa. Yeah. I gets Brady getting the
- 1:37:34Speaker 1: game back, so brunk Grunk could be next. So I'm
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: just I'm just be honest with you. I understand what
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: you said. Uh uh turn Er, Yeah, about this on
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: how you spend. But like I said, you want some excitement.
- 1:37:50Speaker 1: These something optimists, these show mean that you want to
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: fight a little bit instead of giving up the whole chip.
- 1:37:56Speaker 1: To me, like I think Bill just went the old
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: game back and think of death gonna be in this.
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: It's not back in the day. This is something just
- 1:38:03Speaker 1: up to up to date. Well what if they're let me,
- 1:38:05Speaker 1: let me just just to play Devil's advocate. What if
- 1:38:07Speaker 1: they're playing the long game here right? I've read that.
- 1:38:12Speaker 1: I've read that a lot. But like but there are
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: in order to move forward, sometimes you have to take
- 1:38:19Speaker 1: a step back. And maybe by signing these older guys,
- 1:38:22Speaker 1: that's what I wanted to do. I wanted to take
- 1:38:24Speaker 1: a step back. He's running it back, but maybe a back.
- 1:38:29Speaker 1: Maybe running it back is taking a step back. Yeah,
- 1:38:32Speaker 1: that doesn't make any sense at all. This show don't
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: know to me. Like I said before, I love him
- 1:38:40Speaker 1: as a coach, I can't stand him as a GM
- 1:38:42Speaker 1: never did, never did call the stupid simes like you
- 1:38:46Speaker 1: pays foot soldiers instead of ones that produced, they go
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: get somebody else. It's drafting last year. I get I
- 1:38:52Speaker 1: get him a for that. I get him an ad
- 1:38:54Speaker 1: for that for last it's an excellent draft, an absolutely
- 1:38:56Speaker 1: one out of seven years one of you know, so no,
- 1:39:02Speaker 1: I wish. Yeah. I mean, he's definitely in a drought,
- 1:39:06Speaker 1: a little bit of a draft drought. But I think
- 1:39:08Speaker 1: if you look at it, the entirety of his twenty
- 1:39:10Speaker 1: whatever year is twenty two. Very very good draft. It's
- 1:39:12Speaker 1: a very good draft. I've said that repeatedly. Fred, It's
- 1:39:15Speaker 1: another one that I'm play. I know that's true. That's
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: why you get to the GM part, Like people is like, well,
- 1:39:25Speaker 1: I don't know, he won twenty years and up, Well,
- 1:39:27Speaker 1: I think you know, as time is moving on, I
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: think we're seeing more and more as to why that was.
- 1:39:33Speaker 1: Because I think they had opportunities to do things in
- 1:39:35Speaker 1: individual seasons and didn't always do it the right way. Um.
- 1:39:39Speaker 1: You know, the two thousand and six season is a
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: great example of it. When they allowed Givens to go
- 1:39:44Speaker 1: in free agency, they trade Branch and they end up
- 1:39:47Speaker 1: with nothing for a team that was absolutely capable of
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: winning a Super Bowl, and they fell short because of that. So,
- 1:39:54Speaker 1: I mean that's just one small example they get short.
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: They fell short because the cults cheated. They were pumping
- 1:39:59Speaker 1: the flu into the lot, and the heat and the
- 1:40:03Speaker 1: and the noise was probably the onset of COVID right there,
- 1:40:07Speaker 1: I think, brewing it up in Indiana. So I wanted
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: to talk a little bit real quick about the backup
- 1:40:13Speaker 1: quarterback thing because there were a couple of things that
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: have happened, and I don't know if maybe some of
- 1:40:16Speaker 1: our listeners may not be aware of some of the
- 1:40:18Speaker 1: minutia um. But last week the Patriots were at a
- 1:40:24Speaker 1: pro day for Western Michigan and yeah, one of the prospects,
- 1:40:30Speaker 1: now they have a sky sky more is a highly
- 1:40:35Speaker 1: thought of Day two wish. I think a slot guy
- 1:40:38Speaker 1: who was you know, so they absolutely could have been
- 1:40:41Speaker 1: looking at him, but reports indicated that they were really
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: interested in watching Caleb Ellaby, who was a Day three
- 1:40:49Speaker 1: quarterback prospect. And part of this was Joe Judge was there.
- 1:40:55Speaker 1: The reporter for the I think it was M Live, Yeah,
- 1:41:00Speaker 1: m A Zoo where Western Michigan has reported that he
- 1:41:04Speaker 1: was asked specifically who they said with a quarterback because
- 1:41:07Speaker 1: because evidently they said that the quarterback coach for the
- 1:41:09Speaker 1: Patriots was watching Ellibe. Yeah, and then he was asked
- 1:41:12Speaker 1: I think Mark Daniels asked specifically that guy who did
- 1:41:16Speaker 1: they say was the quarterback coach? And they reported it
- 1:41:18Speaker 1: was Joe Judge. So I don't bring it up just
- 1:41:21Speaker 1: for the reason to say, well, that looks like Joe
- 1:41:23Speaker 1: Judge is gonna be working with quarterbacks, because I think
- 1:41:25Speaker 1: that those kinds of things. I don't think Western Michigan
- 1:41:28Speaker 1: knows who the quarterbacks coaches, So I'm not putting as
- 1:41:30Speaker 1: much stock in that part of it as I am.
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: The fact that that was interested pro day They're looking
- 1:41:38Speaker 1: at a day three quarterback. Yeah, I thought that was interesting. Okay,
- 1:41:42Speaker 1: fast forward. They have a situation yesterday where they had
- 1:41:47Speaker 1: a handful of guys in for workouts. One of them
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: was Joshua Dobbs, formerly Pittsburgh, who spent some time I
- 1:41:53Speaker 1: think he played for Tennessee in college, spent some time
- 1:41:57Speaker 1: with the Steelers, and has been in the league for
- 1:42:01Speaker 1: a couple of years as a number three type quarterback.
- 1:42:06Speaker 1: That to me is not a coincidence. Now there's something
- 1:42:09Speaker 1: that you're looking at backup quarterbacks. They're looking to get younger,
- 1:42:15Speaker 1: you know in some way. My question is to and
- 1:42:18Speaker 1: I'll pose it to you, goat, do you think that
- 1:42:20Speaker 1: maybe Jared Stidham should not be buying too many green bananas,
- 1:42:25Speaker 1: um or do you think they think they can do
- 1:42:27Speaker 1: better than Hoyer as a backup and Stidham could be
- 1:42:30Speaker 1: the backup and they put a kid in for when
- 1:42:32Speaker 1: Stidham's going next year? Because I think I think the
- 1:42:35Speaker 1: last year, well, either one of those. Yeah, I'd like
- 1:42:39Speaker 1: to think it's the ladder Paul. But they sign Horrier
- 1:42:44Speaker 1: to a two year deal, so what does that. That's
- 1:42:47Speaker 1: no real money though, so you can just cut them,
- 1:42:49Speaker 1: you could, but I mean, like again, I'll go back
- 1:42:51Speaker 1: down myself. No, but like if they if they wanted to,
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: they could have just like let Horyer that not signed
- 1:42:58Speaker 1: Hoyer at all and say Jared stidhams are backup quarterback.
- 1:43:00Speaker 1: If they felt that good about him, I would prefer
- 1:43:02Speaker 1: that that's what the road they would have gone down.
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: But I have to think that they don't feel that. Yeah,
- 1:43:10Speaker 1: what I think. What I think is they've they're probably
- 1:43:13Speaker 1: going to look to draft a quarterback sometime in Day three,
- 1:43:16Speaker 1: and if that guy comes into camp and shows any
- 1:43:19Speaker 1: kind of promise, I think it's a battle between Hoyer
- 1:43:22Speaker 1: and Stidham the losers out. Yeah, I think I think
- 1:43:26Speaker 1: now you could always put the rookie on the practice
- 1:43:28Speaker 1: squad or whatever. You know, like Caleb Ellabe could probably
- 1:43:31Speaker 1: go to the practice squad without fear of losing him. Um,
- 1:43:34Speaker 1: and we'll see what the new rules, if any adjustments.
- 1:43:38Speaker 1: I know the NFL has said the COVID nineteen protocols
- 1:43:42Speaker 1: are no longer in place as of right now, but
- 1:43:44Speaker 1: we don't know what that means for the rosters. Eric
- 1:43:46Speaker 1: will be going to the owner's meetings next week. Next week, UM,
- 1:43:50Speaker 1: so maybe there'll be some news coming down with some
- 1:43:52Speaker 1: of those kind of you know, i R designations, roster
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: limitations and um, you know the practice squad, EXPAN protection
- 1:44:01Speaker 1: on the pre there's a lot of different things that
- 1:44:03Speaker 1: went into place two years ago because of the coronavirus
- 1:44:06Speaker 1: and see if they stay. It's interesting because normally in
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: the lead up to those meetings, they send out this
- 1:44:13Speaker 1: big document of proposals for rule changes, and typically you
- 1:44:18Speaker 1: get like a half dozen or so maybe eight club submissions,
- 1:44:23Speaker 1: Like teams will come up with their own things, and
- 1:44:25Speaker 1: sometimes they band together and they submit a joint proposal,
- 1:44:28Speaker 1: and then the competition committee will have like three or
- 1:44:31Speaker 1: four of their own. So you've got like this large
- 1:44:33Speaker 1: document of like a dozen rule proposal changes. They sent
- 1:44:37Speaker 1: it out this past week. There were three. Yeah, I
- 1:44:40Speaker 1: think it's just really over and it's really really two
- 1:44:42Speaker 1: well like three teams. Two proposals to change overtime. One
- 1:44:45Speaker 1: of them is like for allowing scouts to stay with
- 1:44:49Speaker 1: their team through the draft before they can get hired.
- 1:44:51Speaker 1: That's like a administrative kind of thing. But the two
- 1:44:54Speaker 1: actual proposals were about fixing overtime, and there was nothing else.
- 1:44:59Speaker 1: It's nothing else about like nothing wrong with the game. Fred, Yeah,
- 1:45:02Speaker 1: like need no need to look here. You know what
- 1:45:04Speaker 1: I want more taunting penalties this year. Let's increase the
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: right now. Do you think that that like Goodell threatened
- 1:45:10Speaker 1: everybody and if you propose getting rid of the taunting rule,
- 1:45:13Speaker 1: you're out. Sorry, No, it's okay. But like it struck
- 1:45:17Speaker 1: me as weird because normally there's a there's a lot
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: of business on the agenda, and it seems like like
- 1:45:22Speaker 1: unless they send another one out at the at the
- 1:45:24Speaker 1: eleventh hour, there's not that much that's going to be
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: to talk about. I mean, I think that's a I
- 1:45:30Speaker 1: think that's a big one that you bring up though
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: about the the the practice squad rules and the game
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: day like promotions, and that won't necessarily be a rule change.
- 1:45:37Speaker 1: That's a big, big thing, and that that's because they
- 1:45:39Speaker 1: I think that was part of the coronavirus sure the
- 1:45:42Speaker 1: a yeah, that they shoehorned in before the twenty twenty season.
- 1:45:46Speaker 1: I just want to be an amendment to that sure
- 1:45:48Speaker 1: and and I don't remember if the amendment said that
- 1:45:51Speaker 1: that was temporary for during the COVID or if they
- 1:45:54Speaker 1: were going to keep that like long term, because I
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: think it worked. It's worked out great over the past
- 1:45:58Speaker 1: two years. I know, my buddy for teams having that
- 1:46:00Speaker 1: flexibility to be able to maneuver I practice squad guys
- 1:46:03Speaker 1: at the last minute, and that's I think that's some
- 1:46:06Speaker 1: of that stuff I think has worked well. I think
- 1:46:08Speaker 1: the unlimited i R I think is a home run. Yeah,
- 1:46:11Speaker 1: I don't think you need sixteen guys in the practice squad.
- 1:46:13Speaker 1: I don't think that necessarily is you know again, Bill
- 1:46:16Speaker 1: will tell you, yeah, if you give a sixteen spots,
- 1:46:18Speaker 1: well we'll fill the sixteen spots. I don't think you
- 1:46:20Speaker 1: need sixteen guys on the practice squad. But I think
- 1:46:25Speaker 1: the i R thing is something that they would probably
- 1:46:27Speaker 1: look into. I hope so, because yeah, like even the
- 1:46:29Speaker 1: short term aspect of it, Like you can put a
- 1:46:31Speaker 1: guy on you know, week three, yep, and know that
- 1:46:35Speaker 1: you can get him back right by you know, three weeks.
- 1:46:39Speaker 1: Like that to me prevents teams from stashing guys on IR, right, Yeah,
- 1:46:44Speaker 1: Like you're not taking a guy who wouldn't be on
- 1:46:46Speaker 1: your roster and put him on IR and preventing him
- 1:46:48Speaker 1: from playing somewhere else, right, yeah, yep. So do you
- 1:46:52Speaker 1: what do you think of the quarterback thing? Fred I? I,
- 1:46:55Speaker 1: like I said, I mean, don't you think that there's
- 1:46:57Speaker 1: probably some interest? I mean, I know all teams should
- 1:47:00Speaker 1: always be interested in quarterback development, but I think it's
- 1:47:04Speaker 1: more than just that in this case. Oh, I do too,
- 1:47:06Speaker 1: And I think either one of your scenarios could be true.
- 1:47:10Speaker 1: I tend to think that Stidham's the one that would
- 1:47:12Speaker 1: go me too, because I think he's in the last
- 1:47:17Speaker 1: year of his contract. Maybe you try to, you know,
- 1:47:20Speaker 1: waited under his age and his contract, but don't forget
- 1:47:25Speaker 1: what was his situation last year during during preseason back injury,
- 1:47:30Speaker 1: couldn't play. Yeah, maybe he plays this year. Has a
- 1:47:34Speaker 1: couple of you know, decent flash kind of play. You
- 1:47:37Speaker 1: get a conditional late round pick for him, and you
- 1:47:40Speaker 1: deal him and you have the guy that you drafted
- 1:47:43Speaker 1: to replace the number three, and otherwise you're gonna end
- 1:47:46Speaker 1: up losing him for nothing as a free agent. And
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: you know, I know it's not much. Was he a
- 1:47:52Speaker 1: fourth round pick? Yeah, so it's I mean, the rookie
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: fourth round, fourth year contract is not you know, onerous
- 1:47:58Speaker 1: or anything like that, but you do save some buck. Yeah,
- 1:48:02Speaker 1: Justin writes in I have two questions for US guys today.
- 1:48:07Speaker 1: I've heard you talk about the AFC East when Brady
- 1:48:10Speaker 1: was here being weak compared to the Patriots. Buffalo's are
- 1:48:13Speaker 1: joining the same thing right now, Now that the NFC
- 1:48:15Speaker 1: has weakened as far as competition goes, does Brady find
- 1:48:18Speaker 1: himself again in a sweet spot? Absolutely? Yeah, absolutely, Especially
- 1:48:24Speaker 1: it's good to be Tom Brady. Yeah, like a lot
- 1:48:27Speaker 1: of things have worked out for him, being in an
- 1:48:29Speaker 1: Alabama fan and watching Mac lead his team to a
- 1:48:32Speaker 1: national title and find himself in contention for the Heisman Trophy.
- 1:48:36Speaker 1: I have hope for his future in New England. I
- 1:48:38Speaker 1: also am aware that college level talent does doesn't always
- 1:48:42Speaker 1: translate into pro talent, but who knows. We'll have to
- 1:48:45Speaker 1: wait and see. I do think he has the foundation
- 1:48:48Speaker 1: under his under him to be great or something like that.
- 1:48:52Speaker 1: Thanks for all you do for the show. We'll hear
- 1:48:55Speaker 1: from I don't even know. That was the exasperated Fred. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:49:04Speaker 1: something about a spat and talking after the show or
- 1:49:08Speaker 1: I don't know, he's in a spat with somebody. I
- 1:49:10Speaker 1: don't know what you guys did last week, but you
- 1:49:11Speaker 1: got everybody all riled up. Yeah, somebody called it angry
- 1:49:14Speaker 1: at Deuce. Oh Bryan and Indiana. Brian, Yes, Fred, he no,
- 1:49:22Speaker 1: he ripped him a new one, did he ripped? Oh
- 1:49:25Speaker 1: that's much better. Yeah, he uh he gave him telling
- 1:49:29Speaker 1: me he was all a flood. And Deuce was just like, yeah,
- 1:49:32Speaker 1: well because I came in the next day and uh,
- 1:49:34Speaker 1: Deuce was hurried right over to my office and fill
- 1:49:38Speaker 1: me in so powering. Yeah, Brian, and you know how
- 1:49:41Speaker 1: he talks. Yeah, And Mike was just like, okay, all right, Brian,
- 1:49:50Speaker 1: and Indiana needs a radio gig. You know. I kind
- 1:49:53Speaker 1: of like Bill. I think he's a good coach. You
- 1:49:56Speaker 1: know what I like about Deuce, He's he's already taken
- 1:49:58Speaker 1: to the fred tactic right, putting words and people pretending
- 1:50:02Speaker 1: that you don't like. Yeah, I don't know about you,
- 1:50:04Speaker 1: but you know I'm anti abortion because I'm not pro death,
- 1:50:11Speaker 1: you know, Like, Oh, is that what being pro choice means?
- 1:50:14Speaker 1: Like I want to kill babies? Oh? Oh, I get
- 1:50:17Speaker 1: it all right. Yeah, Prene writes in from Chicago. I've
- 1:50:20Speaker 1: been following with the show for two years and like
- 1:50:23Speaker 1: all your thoughts on different topics. But on last Thursday show,
- 1:50:26Speaker 1: I really missed Paul when I was hearing. When I
- 1:50:30Speaker 1: was listening to that show, everybody is like, there's no Paul,
- 1:50:33Speaker 1: so let's get our thoughts out with any pushback, because
- 1:50:36Speaker 1: usually pushback is from Paul. Pushback Paul. But I had
- 1:50:40Speaker 1: a feeling it was gonna be one of the most
- 1:50:41Speaker 1: backhanded ps. Of course, this is a snark email with
- 1:50:46Speaker 1: some truth to it. I think Mike waits for the
- 1:50:48Speaker 1: time when Paul is not on the show to give
- 1:50:50Speaker 1: his Belichick love without any pushback. Mike's afraid of me.
- 1:50:54Speaker 1: I think that was established in the first five minutes
- 1:50:56Speaker 1: show when we heard the open. He doesn't get it.
- 1:50:59Speaker 1: He doesn't want to get yelled at by Paul. You
- 1:51:02Speaker 1: don't get a lot of pushback from me about Belichick
- 1:51:04Speaker 1: the coach. By the way, right, Mike m Mike is
- 1:51:09Speaker 1: formerly in sp New Jersey and now in Winchester, Virginia.
- 1:51:14Speaker 1: South Do you know South Brunswick. Maybe, Yeah, that's what
- 1:51:19Speaker 1: I was thinking. Yeah, the men of PFW. This that
- 1:51:22Speaker 1: includes Eric, because I'm not an a hole, got your back.
- 1:51:25Speaker 1: Eric h Sitting here typing away at a huge research
- 1:51:28Speaker 1: paper for my pediatric neurology class that I have due
- 1:51:32Speaker 1: tomorrow morning at eight am, and I happen to run
- 1:51:35Speaker 1: into a perfect situation to use the word want with
- 1:51:38Speaker 1: an oh. Makes me chuckle every time I have an
- 1:51:41Speaker 1: opportunity to use it because I think back to all
- 1:51:43Speaker 1: the crazy stuff on this show. Somehow, you guys always
- 1:51:46Speaker 1: leak into my everyday life. If there's a PU reference
- 1:51:50Speaker 1: to be made, I have to make it, even if
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: it's just under my breath, into myself. Your work on
- 1:51:55Speaker 1: this traditional podcast that's for you, Fred, helps keep this
- 1:51:59Speaker 1: grad student going, helps keep this grad student from pulling
- 1:52:02Speaker 1: his hair out. You all give much needed relief at
- 1:52:05Speaker 1: times when I and everyone else who listens need it most.
- 1:52:09Speaker 1: PS had a dream last night where I was able
- 1:52:11Speaker 1: to ask Belichick the question, and I chose to ask
- 1:52:14Speaker 1: about whether he would rather have Gillette converted to grass
- 1:52:17Speaker 1: instead of having to play on turf to reduce injuries
- 1:52:20Speaker 1: to players. Really hope that wasn't my one truth serum question.
- 1:52:24Speaker 1: So yikes. What was his ancestor earlier? Probably woke up
- 1:52:28Speaker 1: before he Yeah, that's too bad. Yeah, imagine if he had,
- 1:52:32Speaker 1: like you want to contest, you ask Belichick one question,
- 1:52:35Speaker 1: anything in the world, anything you want. Would you rather
- 1:52:38Speaker 1: have Joette Stadium natural grass? And he looks at you,
- 1:52:42Speaker 1: he goes, Really, that was the question you're asking. That's
- 1:52:44Speaker 1: all you gotta Huh. I have no idea. You don't
- 1:52:48Speaker 1: want to know why Malcolm Butler play the Super Bowl?
- 1:52:51Speaker 1: Dana Virginian, Michigan. Um, well, Paul, there's good news and
- 1:52:54Speaker 1: bad news. The good news is that the Patriots haven't
- 1:52:57Speaker 1: resigned any more of the old players and the roster
- 1:52:59Speaker 1: you concerned they would in one elsewhere. The bad news
- 1:53:04Speaker 1: is that they were having old players in for visits,
- 1:53:06Speaker 1: including old former Patriot players. Given that Paul is in
- 1:53:10Speaker 1: today and this game improved a bit difficult last week.
- 1:53:13Speaker 1: It was a nickname game. Oh yeah, nickname going back
- 1:53:18Speaker 1: to the seventies, here's a new round of the nickname
- 1:53:20Speaker 1: game for you, for Paul's benefit. You have to identify
- 1:53:23Speaker 1: the Patriot player by their nickname. I make no guarantee
- 1:53:26Speaker 1: about the accuracy of the nickname, but so it's what
- 1:53:29Speaker 1: you call them well, like for instance, like that he
- 1:53:31Speaker 1: gave one of them was like mister one O eight
- 1:53:36Speaker 1: and he's like, I was a Patriot between two thousand
- 1:53:38Speaker 1: and five and two thousand and nine whatever it wasn't
- 1:53:40Speaker 1: like we're then it was Ellis Hobbs and we were
- 1:53:43Speaker 1: thinking was it because he ran the kickoff back one
- 1:53:45Speaker 1: hundred and eight yards? Like, so he makes up the nickname. No, no, no,
- 1:53:48Speaker 1: I think who called him. Somebody did at one time.
- 1:53:50Speaker 1: He might have called himself that, you know, but anybody
- 1:53:52Speaker 1: I don't ever remember that. It was that kind of
- 1:53:56Speaker 1: level of difficulty that's made up. Yeah, they're all from
- 1:53:59Speaker 1: published horses and should be legit. After last Thursday, I've
- 1:54:03Speaker 1: revised the list to include players only from the nineties onwards,
- 1:54:07Speaker 1: So nineties onwards who were on the team for at
- 1:54:10Speaker 1: least a few years, aside from a couple of long
- 1:54:12Speaker 1: term players who were well known. Okay, all right, first
- 1:54:15Speaker 1: one is Boo nickname was Boo or one of his
- 1:54:19Speaker 1: nickname was Boo. Played from seventy eight to ninety so
- 1:54:26Speaker 1: he said ninety onwards. The end of the career, he
- 1:54:33Speaker 1: was Tippett. No, because I mean he was best known
- 1:54:35Speaker 1: for him a special team. He was Mozy to two
- 1:54:39Speaker 1: poo and they called him Boo. Yeah. I guess the
- 1:54:43Speaker 1: Flyer eighty four to ninety two, Irving Irving Friar, the Undertaker,
- 1:54:51Speaker 1: Vince Vincent Brown. That's right, that's that one's that's yes. Uh.
- 1:54:56Speaker 1: He had two uh nicknames, Big and Winter ninety one
- 1:55:06Speaker 1: to ninety nine Winter. Oh, Ben Coates, that's right. Oh, Hollywood,
- 1:55:16Speaker 1: I can confirm this one anyway. Best known as a
- 1:55:20Speaker 1: special teamer. See that's why I don't know these guys.
- 1:55:24Speaker 1: Ninety four to two thousands, so he was on the
- 1:55:26Speaker 1: team for a while, Hollywood. Two thousand. Larry Wigham, Larry Wiggham, Wow,
- 1:55:32Speaker 1: Larry Wigghamwood. Um, this one I didn't know. He was
- 1:55:36Speaker 1: called the pound puppy. Yeah, I have a little question.
- 1:55:43Speaker 1: I'm suspected some of that, I bet you. When somebody
- 1:55:45Speaker 1: called him that pound puppy ninety five to two thousand
- 1:55:49Speaker 1: and four, ty law, Nope, first name begins with T
- 1:55:57Speaker 1: Ted Johnson, Ted Johnson, I was just Johnson the Pound.
- 1:56:02Speaker 1: I don't even think have the nickname. I think of
- 1:56:04Speaker 1: the years that he tells me they were on the table.
- 1:56:07Speaker 1: I don't remember that one. How about the thumb? I
- 1:56:12Speaker 1: know why? I think I know the thumb? Oh one,
- 1:56:16Speaker 1: two thousand and one to two thousand and three, Tom Tupa, No, No,
- 1:56:21Speaker 1: he was in the ninth the thumb. He was in
- 1:56:23Speaker 1: the night. Wasn't he in the nineties? Tupa, yeah, mid nineties.
- 1:56:27Speaker 1: You get it. Mike Compton, I think you not have
- 1:56:30Speaker 1: a thumb. I think he had a toe that looked
- 1:56:32Speaker 1: like a thumb or something like that. I like. I
- 1:56:36Speaker 1: like games this one even even I don't know the nicknames,
- 1:56:40Speaker 1: and I'm still enjoying this. Um. This one is a
- 1:56:44Speaker 1: little bit tricky. Boss Hog Boss. See when I first
- 1:56:55Speaker 1: saw it, I thought it was John Hannah, but Hannah
- 1:56:57Speaker 1: was just Hog. Yeah, I didn't know that. This person
- 1:57:02Speaker 1: I'm thinking of like a Southern guy. But what years
- 1:57:05Speaker 1: three to eight on defense Ty Warren Boss Hog Tiny
- 1:57:15Speaker 1: two more, his nickname is tiny Remember anybody calling these
- 1:57:19Speaker 1: people the real deal? Jake Steele oh two? Then he
- 1:57:26Speaker 1: skipped a year then, oh four to eight mm, no idea,
- 1:57:38Speaker 1: you're wrestling with it. Steven S the real deal, Steve Neale,
- 1:57:43Speaker 1: last one kool Aid. Oh that one I do remember.
- 1:57:48Speaker 1: I don't remember it, but I do remember someone being yeah,
- 1:57:52Speaker 1: first round pick, first round pick. M Daniel Graham, what
- 1:58:04Speaker 1: year Lawrence Moroney. Yeah, that's that's right, the cool I
- 1:58:08Speaker 1: remember that one. Yes, I remember that. That one's legit.
- 1:58:11Speaker 1: Some of these other ones, though, have me thinking that,
- 1:58:13Speaker 1: like he said, they were documented. Yeah, so maybe maybe
- 1:58:17Speaker 1: in a story somebody referred to them once like a
- 1:58:20Speaker 1: like a teammate may have referred to him once. But
- 1:58:21Speaker 1: that's oh yeah, different than a nickname. A nickname is
- 1:58:24Speaker 1: something like people call you all the time. Is that
- 1:58:26Speaker 1: like if you know, we could do high for high
- 1:58:29Speaker 1: Tower because Bill says high in the press conference all
- 1:58:32Speaker 1: the time. Yack, you know things like that. We didn't
- 1:58:35Speaker 1: talk about that. By the way. Oh yeah, the Patriots
- 1:58:37Speaker 1: will no longer have a fullback. According to Jacob Johnson,
- 1:58:40Speaker 1: he's not back because the Patriots don't plan to have
- 1:58:42Speaker 1: a fullback in their offense right more. At eleven. Yeah,
- 1:58:48Speaker 1: you know, I just thought it was interesting. Yeah, now
- 1:58:51Speaker 1: they got time Montgomery or maybe or maybe he was
- 1:58:54Speaker 1: pulling like a like a passer regress. Well, I guess
- 1:58:56Speaker 1: they don't want to have a fullback in their offense anymore.
- 1:58:57Speaker 1: They don't want said him in German or from rust.
- 1:59:02Speaker 1: I think Jono Smith could see some time in that
- 1:59:05Speaker 1: kind of a role. Yeah, and we do have him
- 1:59:07Speaker 1: do something. It's maybe Dalton Keene can get on the field. Yeah.
- 1:59:11Speaker 1: All right, that's gonna be it for this edition of
- 1:59:13Speaker 1: Patriots Unfiltered. We'll be back on Thursday with more talk
