- 1:01Speaker 1: If you are a mess right now, or think you are a mess Good, then I'm not alone.
- 1:08Speaker 1: We are a hot mess right now everyone.
- 1:12Speaker 1: There are no exemptions.
- 1:14Speaker 1: With a highly contested election looming, I feel we are all teetering on an edge and there's no one to keep us from going over the edge.
- 1:23Speaker 1: That's pretty much as political as I'm going to get.
- 1:27Speaker 1: We are in the midst of personal meltdowns and we have no validation for where we are.
- 1:31Speaker 1: We cannot articulate any viable reason for our state.
- 1:35Speaker 1: It's tough and we're struggling.
- 1:38Speaker 1: I was writing the other day.
- 1:41Speaker 1: I remembered Ephesians 2.10.
- 1:43Speaker 1: For we are God's masterpiece.
- 1:46Speaker 1: He has created us anew and crushed Jesus so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Masterpieces, wow.
- 1:56Speaker 1: You see, we aren't really the mess we think we are.
- 2:00Speaker 1: We are the masterpiece in the mess we are.
- 2:09Speaker 1: We are the masterpiece in the mess.
- 2:10Speaker 1: This puts a whole new spin on things.
- 2:11Speaker 1: As a masterpiece in the mess we do the things that masterpieces do.
- 2:13Speaker 1: We show the world how to stand in the mess so that our future grandchildren and their grandchildren know how to stand.
- 2:21Speaker 1: We model what to do.
- 2:24Speaker 1: We continue to influence generations and change the way people look at Jesus.
- 2:29Speaker 1: We are so original that once you've seen us, our love influences you.
- 2:35Speaker 1: A masterpiece defines a whole set of cultural values and is brilliantly above reproach values and is brilliantly above reproach.
- 2:43Speaker 1: You see, we have to remember to act like a masterpiece, not the mess.
- 2:53Speaker 1: We are masterpieces created by God to influence the world in a loving, non-judgmental way.
- 2:56Speaker 1: You see, masterpieces stand the test of time.
- 2:59Speaker 1: They endure because the artist's skill, subject matter and craftsmanship will endure through the latest fad.
- 3:09Speaker 1: And let me just say this here and remind you, you and I, we are not a fad.
- 3:16Speaker 1: Masterpieces speak to every generation and our mission is to show the world.
- 3:22Speaker 1: The artist who created us, the woman at the well, is a clear example for me.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Jesus could and had the right to condemn her, judge her and tell her off, but he didn't.
- 3:36Speaker 1: He spoke the truth and love to her and she realized then she was a masterpiece.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Then she was a masterpiece.
- 3:51Speaker 1: She then brought the rest of the town to him and her story is still a masterpiece today.
- 3:52Speaker 1: You see, you are a masterpiece even if you feel a little messy right now.
- 3:56Speaker 1: You're a masterpiece even if your life is not gone as planned and is currently spinning out of control no-transcript.
- 4:12Speaker 1: You are a masterpiece even if you've lost your job and are wondering what's next.
- 4:16Speaker 1: You're a masterpiece even if you are in shock or in limbo.
- 4:23Speaker 1: These things don't change who we are, but they could and may change our circumstances for just a minute.
- 4:29Speaker 1: You see, as messes we tend to over-control things, trying to control everything around us our jobs, relationships, children and, really, god.
- 4:40Speaker 1: This is typical and apparent, for who messes are?
- 4:44Speaker 1: We become an overnight sensation in the insecurity of it all.
- 4:49Speaker 1: We fight to get what we want and believe our way is the only right way.
- 4:55Speaker 1: Ask me how?
- 4:57Speaker 1: I know let's just stop.
- 4:59Speaker 1: The only way out of this messiness is to pause and learn to slow down.
- 5:05Speaker 1: You see, when we're in shock, we cannot make a rational decision.
- 5:10Speaker 1: We base our decision on our emotions, and I've learned the hard way.
- 5:14Speaker 1: This is not a great idea.
- 5:18Speaker 1: Let me give you five little things to try right now and see if it helps.
- 5:22Speaker 1: The first thing is to control the easy things like the laundry, the kitchen, cleaning it up or making your bed every day.
- 5:32Speaker 1: This will remove some of the overwhelmness.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Number two listen.
- 5:37Speaker 1: This is a learned trait.
- 5:39Speaker 1: We tend to create a mess because we don't listen.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Learn to hear what is not being said and sometimes it's just okay to keep our mouths closed.
- 5:50Speaker 1: Rest, do whatever is best for you, don't apologize for it and don't come up with excuses to avoid it.
- 6:01Speaker 1: Number four cry.
- 6:03Speaker 1: It will be one of the biggest releases you will ever do.
- 6:07Speaker 1: To this day, my children make fun of me because I cry over the craziest things.
- 6:13Speaker 1: Number five laugh.
- 6:15Speaker 1: I love this more than anything Sarcastic, dry humor that makes me laugh until I can't breathe.
- 6:23Speaker 1: These days, the memes are just outstandingly hilarious.
- 6:29Speaker 1: These things help to remind ourselves we are real, breathing, moving people.
- 6:35Speaker 1: I can't guarantee this will make us less of a mess, but it will remove the stigma of being a hot mess.
- 6:44Speaker 1: Control the simple things.
- 6:46Speaker 1: Side note, I'm trying to control the creatures who continue eating my plants on my patio.
- 6:54Speaker 1: You see, the world is always going to be a mess, but we don't have to be Right now.
- 7:00Speaker 1: Even in the middle of the biggest mess of our lives, we are still the masterpiece.
- 7:05Speaker 1: We just have to remember what masterpieces do Be, that it's what you were created for.
- 7:12Speaker 1: The day we stop being a mess is the day we reach full masterpiece certification.
- 7:18Speaker 1: No matter, remember who created you and why you were created.
- 7:23Speaker 1: And, as my boys would say, stop listening to the haters.
- 7:27Speaker 1: They don't really know.
- 7:28Speaker 1: There is a way out of the mess.
- 7:30Speaker 1: It is a simple step of creating a game plan to create a path for you out of the mess you find yourself in.
- 7:37Speaker 1: It won't change your masterpiece status, but it will remove the garbage in your way.
- 7:43Speaker 1: It is a simple but profound way to help you see.
- 7:47Speaker 1: Clearly, in the middle of your mess, you see masterpieces have to be cared for, tended to and protected, otherwise, over time, they will fall apart.
- 7:57Speaker 1: You are not meant for that.
- 8:01Speaker 1: Your game plan will get you off the bench and moving into your life again.
- 8:06Speaker 1: You want that right.
- 8:08Speaker 1: In the show notes I've listed the first three episodes that deal with shock, limbo and re-entry.
- 8:14Speaker 1: Listen to them.
- 8:15Speaker 1: Better yet, listen to them and then share them with somebody you know who needs to hear them.
- 8:21Speaker 1: Well, that's it for today.
- 8:23Speaker 1: Join me next week as I discuss the topic.
- 8:27Speaker 1: I'm Sorry you had to Be First.
- 8:30Speaker 1: It's a story very close to my heart.
- 8:33Speaker 1: You won't want to miss it.
- 8:35Speaker 1: Hey, thanks for listening.
