- 1:32Speaker 2: just a bit the crack in last night, a two
- 1:35Speaker 2: to one win over the Carolina Hurricanes, not as convincing
- 1:39Speaker 2: as a five to one win over Vancouver, but just
- 1:42Speaker 2: as big of a statement making win, if not a
- 1:45Speaker 2: bigger statement as they're getting ready here for the Blues
- 1:48Speaker 2: Ottawa and a big one coming up next Tuesday against Nashville,
- 1:52Speaker 2: all wrapped around the trade deadline. Coming up on Friday
- 1:57Speaker 2: at noon, we're gonna hear from David pan Yota, by
- 2:00Speaker 2: the way, the one and only an NHL insider for
- 2:02Speaker 2: the fourth period NHL Network Serius XM, NHL Network Radio,
- 2:07Speaker 2: where you can basically say, right now the Kraken are
- 2:10Speaker 2: a buyer, but how lightly are they going to emerge
- 2:13Speaker 2: with a top end score? What big names could be
- 2:16Speaker 2: lurking out there still ahead of Friday. Our conversation with
- 2:19Speaker 2: David Panyota coming up in just a bit without further
- 2:24Speaker 2: ado Everett fits you Al Koniski, jumping right back in
- 2:27Speaker 2: here with this and before I get to the opening
- 2:29Speaker 2: thoughts fellas, my goodness, it's going to be back home,
- 2:33Speaker 2: isn't it. First time in a month, first time since
- 2:35Speaker 2: the Super Bowl happened.
- 2:37Speaker 1: Man, between the between the last road trip and then
- 2:42Speaker 1: the Olympic break and then you start out on the
- 2:45Speaker 1: road after the break, I had to get my maps
- 2:47Speaker 1: out and figure out how to get down the rink last.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Night that al had ishi my name maya name is
- 2:53Speaker 2: stickers out for last Saturday?
- 2:55Speaker 1: Oh my god Saturday. Yes, yes, the the team won
- 3:01Speaker 1: a big win five to one. But for me, Saturday
- 3:03Speaker 1: that was probably one of the best crowds I think
- 3:06Speaker 1: we've seen this year. And I think it was because
- 3:08Speaker 1: of the fact that you had the long layoff.
- 3:11Speaker 5: It was your first game back in about a month.
- 3:14Speaker 1: The you know, a number of the players from the
- 3:17Speaker 1: Torrent were there.
- 3:18Speaker 5: They were paying tribute.
- 3:20Speaker 1: To both women's and men's Olympic hockey teams. It was
- 3:23Speaker 1: black hockey history night. Gop Pocaco, Elie Tolviden got their right,
- 3:27Speaker 1: rightful recognition for winning bronze. That crowd was awesome and
- 3:31Speaker 1: then you know we were treated last night to I
- 3:35Speaker 1: would say probably one of the biggest top two three,
- 3:39Speaker 1: four wins of the season for Seattle, giving where they
- 3:43Speaker 1: are in the standings given how they played coming out
- 3:46Speaker 1: of the break, So it felt good. These last two
- 3:49Speaker 1: games felt really good to be back home.
- 3:51Speaker 6: Yeah, I think coming out of the break, which by
- 3:53Speaker 6: the way, I think was too long, I think I've done.
- 3:57Speaker 2: You can only get so much golf and barbecue.
- 3:59Speaker 4: Now.
- 4:00Speaker 6: I'd like to advocate for just a standard two weeks
- 4:03Speaker 6: every year. You know, I don't care if it's the
- 4:05Speaker 6: Olympics or what they got to fit it into two
- 4:06Speaker 6: weeks or if it's All Star four Nations.
- 4:09Speaker 4: Two weeks is the right amount of time.
- 4:11Speaker 6: And I think I could argue that both for the
- 4:13Speaker 6: comments that Ever just made about trying to find his
- 4:16Speaker 6: way back to the rink, but also the players as well.
- 4:18Speaker 6: Coming out of the break, the krack and we're not
- 4:20Speaker 6: ready to play. They had a couple of bad losses
- 4:23Speaker 6: on the road, and you started scratching your head a
- 4:26Speaker 6: little bit, like is this playoff team? And now they've
- 4:30Speaker 6: got two back two wins at home to kind of
- 4:33Speaker 6: cancel out those first two losses, and you're.
- 4:35Speaker 4: Seeing that team that was winning, that was having.
- 4:39Speaker 6: Success going into the break win again in the last
- 4:42Speaker 6: two games, and I think that's the team you're going
- 4:44Speaker 6: to see going forward.
- 4:45Speaker 2: That's very good. And I want to have this say
- 4:47Speaker 2: for our opening thoughts because we're going to get into
- 4:49Speaker 2: a lot of meat of what could be affecting this
- 4:52Speaker 2: team short term and long term coming up here beginning
- 4:56Speaker 2: at Friday at new of the NHL trade deadline looming.
- 5:00Speaker 2: I'll go here first off with my opening thoughts, and guys,
- 5:02Speaker 2: i'll let you take it away with your own after
- 5:04Speaker 2: this here and for me, this week is all about
- 5:06Speaker 2: the reality and the playoff picture, and what the Kraken
- 5:09Speaker 2: want to do is very very important here for the
- 5:12Speaker 2: landscape of Seattle, the Mariners, of course, eight outs within
- 5:16Speaker 2: the World Series last year, the Seahawks are now in
- 5:19Speaker 2: the class of the NFL winning another Super Bowl. So
- 5:22Speaker 2: now the intention is on hockey with the Kraken and
- 5:25Speaker 2: the Torrent and for the crack inside, what can you
- 5:29Speaker 2: do to get into the playoffs because this is a
- 5:31Speaker 2: gate revenue league. But don't ask me, ask the players,
- 5:35Speaker 2: and Brandon Montour told us me on these airwaves, they
- 5:40Speaker 2: know what they feel that the playoffs are so important
- 5:42Speaker 2: because of that, because the attention is so critical in
- 5:46Speaker 2: this market, and I think which now leads me on
- 5:49Speaker 2: here to the trade deadline, the realism for what this
- 5:53Speaker 2: team of what they want to do, and then what
- 5:55Speaker 2: they can do based on market conditions. Here's what they
- 5:59Speaker 2: want and it's a superstar score. I think we all
- 6:02Speaker 2: want this. Well, it's realistic. Might be different here based
- 6:05Speaker 2: on just how quiet it may be this week, and
- 6:09Speaker 2: it's maybe at least can you get somebody who can
- 6:11Speaker 2: move the needle a bit more in that direction. They
- 6:14Speaker 2: reportedly again took a swing in our Timmy Penarin earlier
- 6:17Speaker 2: this past month. Didn't work out. I mean, it was
- 6:19Speaker 2: going to be La or bus for him, but that
- 6:21Speaker 2: was all about optics. If they're willing to trade for
- 6:24Speaker 2: him at his age and his contract and offer an
- 6:28Speaker 2: extension reportedly in Leon dreys settled territory, they want to
- 6:32Speaker 2: give the impression that anything's possible, which leads me outto
- 6:36Speaker 2: the curiosity of what they can do to take a
- 6:39Speaker 2: big swing and say, Robert Thomas, I love that name
- 6:42Speaker 2: and that thin Could Jordan chyrou be out there and
- 6:45Speaker 2: does that make tomorrow night against the Blues? Absolutely positively
- 6:49Speaker 2: grab your popcorn Grand Theater. Any one of those would
- 6:53Speaker 2: make a massive upgrade or at least raise the floor
- 6:56Speaker 2: of your offense. So who goes out we'll see, But
- 6:59Speaker 2: as far as the from the outside, the goal is
- 7:02Speaker 2: to find offensive upgrades, which then leads me to what
- 7:06Speaker 2: this team is right now in the championship contending window.
- 7:10Speaker 2: They are a ways away from the same group as Colorado, Tampa, Bay, Carolina, Minnesota, Dallas, etc.
- 7:17Speaker 2: Yet they're hanging around this playoff mix. And by this
- 7:20Speaker 2: part of the season, folks, I don't care what your
- 7:23Speaker 2: narrative was back in October. At this point of the year,
- 7:26Speaker 2: stop moving the goalposts. You are who you are the
- 7:29Speaker 2: Krack and are a playoff team. They're a postseason contender.
- 7:32Speaker 2: Lane Lambert and its defensive scheme and goaltending have a
- 7:36Speaker 2: lot to do with this. Yes, it is sustainable, but
- 7:39Speaker 2: they need an offensive boost. Another big time scorer takes
- 7:43Speaker 2: the pressure off of what they have. It creates better
- 7:46Speaker 2: matchups and gives this offense a little more street cred
- 7:49Speaker 2: as well. So depending upon how big that name is,
- 7:51Speaker 2: that could also be a big factor in being a
- 7:54Speaker 2: box office drop. But ultimately, this week is about can
- 7:57Speaker 2: you find a way to at least raise the floor
- 8:00Speaker 2: of your team offensively, it's possible, and they got a
- 8:03Speaker 2: few days here to sort this out. Guys.
- 8:06Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean I listen, Mike, everything that you said
- 8:09Speaker 1: I think rings true. And what really stood out to
- 8:12Speaker 1: me is that a lot of folks listening. You know,
- 8:17Speaker 1: we listened to a lot of the national media right
- 8:20Speaker 1: and people are still trying to find a way to
- 8:24Speaker 1: put this Kracking team down.
- 8:26Speaker 5: I don't know if they got it. They're not sexy enough, they.
- 8:29Speaker 1: Don't score enough goals. Listen, the goalpost can't move right.
- 8:33Speaker 1: And I'm with you there. I think this is a
- 8:35Speaker 1: playoff team. I think the game against Carolina showed it,
- 8:39Speaker 1: because yes, you beat Vancouver five to one, and with
- 8:44Speaker 1: respects to your opponent, you need to beat that team.
- 8:47Speaker 1: And I think if the Kracking had one a two
- 8:50Speaker 1: to one, three to two overtime game against Vancouver, there
- 8:54Speaker 1: probably would have been more questions that you had to ask.
- 8:58Speaker 1: Whereas with Carolina, a team that is offensively, you know,
- 9:02Speaker 1: one of.
- 9:03Speaker 5: The top of the NHL.
- 9:04Speaker 1: They had a good power play and they've got a
- 9:06Speaker 1: good defense. For you to go out and work your
- 9:09Speaker 1: system almost perfectly, including killing off of six on four
- 9:13Speaker 1: power play with a minute and half left. I mean,
- 9:16Speaker 1: the kraket have been playing playoff hockey all year long.
- 9:19Speaker 1: A number of players have said it, number of coaches
- 9:21Speaker 1: have said it. This team has been in a playoff fight,
- 9:25Speaker 1: in a playoff mindset since a Halloween basically. So I
- 9:30Speaker 1: think that this team is for sure a playoff team.
- 9:32Speaker 1: I think that when we're looking at the schedule, it's
- 9:36Speaker 1: not going to be an easy route to the playoffs
- 9:39Speaker 1: for Seattle. I was looking at the schedule. Kraken have
- 9:43Speaker 1: got two games each against Colorado, Tampa Vegas, one against Buffalo,
- 9:47Speaker 1: one against Edmonton, one against Utah Minnesota, all those teams
- 9:50Speaker 1: currently right now in the playoffs.
- 9:52Speaker 5: In the Hut, they got a game against the Kings.
- 9:54Speaker 1: Four back of the wildcard, five back of Seattle, Nashville
- 9:58Speaker 1: four back of the wildcard, Ottawa out East, five points
- 10:01Speaker 1: back in the Loudcard, Columbus three points back in the Loudcard,
- 10:04Speaker 1: and then the other two Vancouver, Florida's twice Winnipan Calgary
- 10:07Speaker 1: doesn't matter. I think the Kracking have got a very
- 10:10Speaker 1: you know, manageable road, but I think those games are
- 10:14Speaker 1: gonna be tough, and I think the deadline this week,
- 10:17Speaker 1: the game against Saint Louis tomorrow is gonna offer a
- 10:19Speaker 1: little bit of distraction, and I'm curious to see how
- 10:21Speaker 1: the Crack can handle that, because anytime you go into
- 10:23Speaker 1: a deadline, you know, you look around that locker room.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Somebody ain't gonna be here on Saturday when Ottawa comes
- 10:30Speaker 1: to town. So that's another area that you have to
- 10:32Speaker 1: look at. But I think you know this team's a
- 10:35Speaker 1: playoff team. They've shown it time and time again. I
- 10:38Speaker 1: want to get through this home stand first, but I
- 10:41Speaker 1: think we're entering that time of the year where it
- 10:44Speaker 1: would be considered a catastrophic failure if the Kraken fell
- 10:49Speaker 1: out of the playoffs, because once you're in the playoff
- 10:52Speaker 1: or once the deadline passed, rather this league goes for me,
- 10:56Speaker 1: in a four to three league to a three to
- 10:58Speaker 1: two league almost overnight. Every game a three point game.
- 11:01Speaker 1: It's hard to make up five, six, seven points in
- 11:04Speaker 1: eighteen games.
- 11:05Speaker 5: Like that's a historic run.
- 11:07Speaker 1: So we'll see what happens, you know, after next week
- 11:11Speaker 1: when Colorado leaves on Thursday. But I think we're getting
- 11:13Speaker 1: close to that point where we can maybe erasable pen
- 11:18Speaker 1: the Kraken into a playoff spot and then we'll see
- 11:21Speaker 1: what happens.
- 11:22Speaker 5: Yeah, I think that.
- 11:24Speaker 6: You know, my third year with the team, I have
- 11:28Speaker 6: not recalled a year yet compared to this year where
- 11:32Speaker 6: it feels like a big move has to be made.
- 11:35Speaker 6: And I say that, you know, believing that with the
- 11:38Speaker 6: roster as it is right now, this is still a
- 11:40Speaker 6: playoff team. But I think there's an opportunity to go
- 11:43Speaker 6: deep in the playoffs with a big move.
- 11:45Speaker 5: And I know the name.
- 11:46Speaker 6: Robert Thomas has been thrown around a lot. We've talked
- 11:49Speaker 6: about it internally to.
- 11:51Speaker 2: Beat this drump for about a month. You know me.
- 11:54Speaker 6: You know he's a twenty six year old, proven elite center.
- 11:57Speaker 6: But it's gonna come with some pain. Every big move us.
- 12:00Speaker 6: You know, you're not gonna send over a fruit basket
- 12:02Speaker 6: and a second rounder for Robert Thomas.
- 12:05Speaker 4: You have to ask.
- 12:08Speaker 5: What do you want?
- 12:09Speaker 6: Do you want to draft and pray or do you
- 12:11Speaker 6: want to pay and win. There's no clearance track for
- 12:13Speaker 6: franchise centers, so if you're gonna package something, it's gonna
- 12:17Speaker 6: come with some pain and a likely You know, Shane
- 12:19Speaker 6: Wright's name has been thrown around, but it's going to
- 12:21Speaker 6: take more than that. Probably a couple first rounders, maybe
- 12:24Speaker 6: even a pre and asset after that. If you don't
- 12:26Speaker 6: like that, you don't like elite centers, and then you
- 12:29Speaker 6: have to ask yourself, does Robert Thomas as a one
- 12:32Speaker 6: se and Maddy Beveniers is a two seed get you
- 12:35Speaker 6: in deeper into the playoffs? If the answer is yes,
- 12:38Speaker 6: that's the kind of swing of the changes a franchise,
- 12:41Speaker 6: and I believe that's that's exactly what they should be
- 12:44Speaker 6: focused on. If the answers know, then you grow right
- 12:47Speaker 6: and you keep your picks and you just stay patient.
- 12:50Speaker 6: It's not a depth tweak. It's an identity shift in
- 12:53Speaker 6: this organization. It's window acceleration. It's the we're done waiting mentality.
- 12:58Speaker 6: If you're not willing to give up something that that
- 13:00Speaker 6: makes you slightly uncomfortable, you're not serious about getting Robert Thomas.
- 13:04Speaker 6: And I think that's the way. That's the mindset set
- 13:07Speaker 6: that Jason Bottle has to go into these conversations with.
- 13:10Speaker 2: Let's go back to last night and a two to
- 13:13Speaker 2: one victory over the Carolina Hurricanes, because we all felt
- 13:17Speaker 2: after Saturday ights it was a big win based on
- 13:21Speaker 2: circumstances of bouncing back from two clunkers out of the gate.
- 13:24Speaker 2: But this was a much, much, much bigger hill to climb.
- 13:28Speaker 2: In Carolina, the class of the Eastern Conference. They have
- 13:31Speaker 2: an identity, They've long had this identity here of skate
- 13:35Speaker 2: a pace as well. And you knew that you were
- 13:37Speaker 2: going to be in for one if you want to
- 13:38Speaker 2: get at least one point, let alone two shot attempts
- 13:42Speaker 2: last night eighty three thirty one. That's almost comical. Eighty
- 13:47Speaker 2: three point thirty one, have five on five. It was
- 13:50Speaker 2: seventy one twenty one Carolina, but scoring chances just twenty
- 13:55Speaker 2: thirteen in favor of Carolina. This is where we say, yes,
- 14:00Speaker 2: the analytics tell a story, but watch the game as well,
- 14:05Speaker 2: because for much of last night, Carolina is gonna shoot
- 14:09Speaker 2: the puck virtually every shift, but you're fine keeping shots
- 14:13Speaker 2: toward the outside. It's all about the middle and keeping
- 14:17Speaker 2: those shots away from the middle. And virtually the only
- 14:21Speaker 2: egregious mistake the crack And committed last night wound up
- 14:25Speaker 2: in the back of their own net. And that was
- 14:27Speaker 2: enough because they were opportunistic. A. The Coppocaco goal, b
- 14:32Speaker 2: the Ben Meyers line. There they are again on the
- 14:36Speaker 2: game winning goal, and see Joey decord.
- 14:40Speaker 5: You know my thoughts on advanced stats.
- 14:42Speaker 1: I don't care what your shot percentage per Wayanney Crescent
- 14:45Speaker 1: Moons is.
- 14:46Speaker 5: I don't care. Last night for me was I'll call
- 14:51Speaker 5: that the Chandler Stevenson game.
- 14:52Speaker 1: I don't need advanced stats to know that that was
- 14:57Speaker 1: the Kraken played well and they won that game. I
- 15:00Speaker 1: don't need advanced stats to know that Chander Stevenson is
- 15:02Speaker 1: one of the best players offensively and defensively on this team,
- 15:06Speaker 1: regardless of everybody who loves to say, well, is shot
- 15:09Speaker 1: per sixty ratio is not, you know, inducive to shut up?
- 15:14Speaker 5: I don't care. Last night was a playoff game.
- 15:17Speaker 1: Last night was Game two, Right, that felt like the
- 15:21Speaker 1: type of game that Seattle's gonna have to win and
- 15:25Speaker 1: have to play in the playoffs. That felt like Game
- 15:28Speaker 1: seven against Colorado, Right, that felt like.
- 15:31Speaker 5: Game was that Game five?
- 15:33Speaker 1: I think it was against Dallas, Game four, maybe against
- 15:36Speaker 1: Dallas a few years ago. It was one of those
- 15:39Speaker 1: games that was back and forth. Anybody could have won it,
- 15:42Speaker 1: but you just knew the Kraken were gonna come out
- 15:44Speaker 1: on top of that game. And those are the games
- 15:49Speaker 1: that Seattle has been playing all year long. And I've
- 15:53Speaker 1: said this before and I'll say it again. The deadline
- 15:56Speaker 1: is when the league shifts. There are a lot of
- 15:58Speaker 1: three point games. There are a lot of low scoring games.
- 16:01Speaker 1: You know, gone about Goneer of the day is coming
- 16:05Speaker 1: up here of the six to one forour to one stinker.
- 16:10Speaker 1: I think all the teams that are within spitting distance
- 16:14Speaker 1: of a playoff spot, they're gonna be playing for the tie.
- 16:17Speaker 1: They're gonna be playing for as many points as possible.
- 16:20Speaker 1: There's gonna be a lot more defensive hockey. There's gonna
- 16:23Speaker 1: be a lot more of cautious hockey these last twenty games,
- 16:28Speaker 1: especially if you're a team that's in the playoffs. You're Colorado,
- 16:31Speaker 1: you're Tampa. You know you're going you know there may
- 16:34Speaker 1: be some rest in there. But for Seattle, they can't
- 16:37Speaker 1: afford to take their foot off the gas. But I
- 16:39Speaker 1: also think that the way that they play sets them up.
- 16:43Speaker 1: You know they're gonna fall. They're gonna be a couple
- 16:45Speaker 1: of losses here and there. But as we saw the
- 16:47Speaker 1: first two games out of the break, but I think
- 16:49Speaker 1: this more, maybe so more than any other team in
- 16:54Speaker 1: Seattle's category, obviously the Colorado's and the the Dallases of
- 16:59Speaker 1: the Warld, the Minnesotas of the world.
- 17:01Speaker 5: They've got the superstars, they've got all that.
- 17:03Speaker 1: But for those teams that you would put in that
- 17:06Speaker 1: cracking mold, I would say they've got the best chance
- 17:09Speaker 1: of any of them of having success and maybe a
- 17:13Speaker 1: deeper playoff run than people would expect.
- 17:16Speaker 6: Yeah, I you know, you say fits that you knew
- 17:19Speaker 6: they were going to pull it out at the end.
- 17:21Speaker 6: I didn't know they were going to pull it out.
- 17:22Speaker 6: I thought the last three minutes of the game last
- 17:25Speaker 6: night was a test.
- 17:26Speaker 5: Until Toby took the penalty. I was like, they got this.
- 17:29Speaker 2: That was me nuckles by the way in Tom's watch bar.
- 17:32Speaker 6: All right, Okay, That's what I'm talking about, is the
- 17:36Speaker 6: last three minutes of the game. You're up by a goal,
- 17:38Speaker 6: You're playing a top team from the East with tons
- 17:41Speaker 6: of talent. They're going to pull their goaltender goes six
- 17:45Speaker 6: on four because you got a guy in the box.
- 17:47Speaker 6: That last three minutes, to me, it was a test,
- 17:50Speaker 6: and the test was can you beat a top team
- 17:53Speaker 6: when you're up by a goal with three minutes left
- 17:55Speaker 6: in the game and you've just taken a penalty.
- 17:57Speaker 4: And then the Cracking passed that test.
- 17:58Speaker 6: But at that point of the game, I thought, this
- 18:01Speaker 6: is likely going to overtime. The Cracker will get a
- 18:04Speaker 6: point out of it. That's okay, it still points. And
- 18:07Speaker 6: they proved me wrong. They were like, no, this is
- 18:09Speaker 6: a playoff game for us, and we're gonna win this
- 18:11Speaker 6: game as if it's a playoff game. So it was
- 18:13Speaker 6: a big test and they passed it.
- 18:14Speaker 1: That game reminded me of the Winnipeg game the Crack
- 18:17Speaker 1: and played a few months ago, back in November. They
- 18:19Speaker 1: won that one three to nothing with two empty net goals.
- 18:22Speaker 1: It was in Winnipeg and it was one nothing. Uh
- 18:25Speaker 1: you know, pretty late in that game. The Cracket had
- 18:28Speaker 1: a one nothing lead for a lot of that game.
- 18:30Speaker 5: And and that.
- 18:31Speaker 1: Was I think the first time here in the Lane
- 18:33Speaker 1: Lambert era that I was saying to myself, Okay, this system,
- 18:37Speaker 1: this works, this will work.
- 18:40Speaker 5: This team is a better team for it. And I
- 18:43Speaker 5: and I felt again.
- 18:45Speaker 1: Some of those same I don't want to say comforting feelings.
- 18:49Speaker 5: Because I was very puckered last night. Don't get me wrong,
- 18:52Speaker 5: but I had some of those yeah, right, but but
- 18:57Speaker 5: I had.
- 18:57Speaker 1: Some of those same maybe cautiously optimistic feelings last night
- 19:02Speaker 1: against Carolina that I felt against Winnipeg, and like, you know,
- 19:06Speaker 1: Joey Decord is dialed in. The Kracking aren't really in
- 19:09Speaker 1: the last ten minutes of the game. They're not really
- 19:13Speaker 1: giving up a whole lot from the house. They're keeping
- 19:16Speaker 1: most of the opportunities to the outside. Those shot numbers
- 19:19Speaker 1: are being inflated a bit. The Krack can out hit
- 19:22Speaker 1: Winnipeg or Winnipeg Carolina last night by what thirty one
- 19:27Speaker 1: to thirteen, right, thirty one to thirteen margin last night.
- 19:31Speaker 1: So everything was going right for Seattle in the last
- 19:35Speaker 1: fifteen to twenty minutes of that game. So I felt like, yeah,
- 19:40Speaker 1: you know this, I didn't see the game tying goal.
- 19:43Speaker 1: I didn't see a loss coming for Seattle. Then tolven
- 19:46Speaker 1: It takes the penalty, and then you change a little bit.
- 19:49Speaker 1: Then you know, you pay for the full seat, you
- 19:51Speaker 1: only need the edge. That's where I was in the
- 19:54Speaker 1: last ninety seconds of that game.
- 19:56Speaker 5: But there was maybe a little bit of.
- 19:58Speaker 1: That cautious optimism that I felt in that Winnipeg game,
- 20:01Speaker 1: knowing this team was going to be okay because of
- 20:03Speaker 1: the system they played.
- 20:04Speaker 2: And I love the fact that you brought up physicality
- 20:06Speaker 2: here in this point because I think it bears a
- 20:08Speaker 2: question how much of a blueprint from the last two
- 20:10Speaker 2: nights are we looking at here for the stretch drive
- 20:13Speaker 2: the playoffs as well. If you're playing a puck possession team,
- 20:17Speaker 2: I get it in the modern day and age, hits
- 20:19Speaker 2: mean that you don't have the puck, but HiT's awesome
- 20:21Speaker 2: me you can find a way to get it back.
- 20:23Speaker 2: And we knew from the morning on part of the
- 20:26Speaker 2: Lane Lamberg game plan was physical contact against Carolina, who
- 20:31Speaker 2: loves escape. But again, can they take and can they
- 20:34Speaker 2: sustain contact on their side? The hit category thirty one
- 20:39Speaker 2: thirteen in favor of the Kraken Jacob Alanson had seven
- 20:43Speaker 2: hits and the big Rig Jamie Alexiak. I think this
- 20:48Speaker 2: is a teaser here for our three stars of the
- 20:50Speaker 2: week at least eleven hits by the Big Rig last
- 20:53Speaker 2: night three blog shots that was twenty twenty three playoffs
- 20:57Speaker 2: Jamie Alexiak as well. And then when you get onto
- 21:01Speaker 2: the block shots part of this the crack and add
- 21:02Speaker 2: twenty three Carolina ads seven four block shots as well
- 21:07Speaker 2: from Ellie Tolvenen. We'll talk about him with David Panyota
- 21:10Speaker 2: coming up because reports are surfacing about his name in
- 21:13Speaker 2: the trade market UFA status as well, but also four
- 21:17Speaker 2: block shots to Kale Flurry. My goodness, his stock is
- 21:23Speaker 2: rising right now as far as depth on this defense,
- 21:26Speaker 2: and I'll get back to him versus the whole Ryan
- 21:29Speaker 2: ln Gren situation here in a bit, But I do
- 21:31Speaker 2: want to pose this question and again again a pull
- 21:33Speaker 2: question of the week at Krack and audio net at
- 21:36Speaker 2: Twitter and next to you think ninety points are enough
- 21:39Speaker 2: to make the playoffs here for this season? The way
- 21:42Speaker 2: I look at this, you got twelve games beginning in March.
- 21:46Speaker 2: Eight are against non playoff teams. There are a couple
- 21:49Speaker 2: of big ones in there against Nashville, which they are
- 21:52Speaker 2: technically are not a playoff team. But yet I look
- 21:56Speaker 2: at this where you find a way to take care
- 21:58Speaker 2: of business on home ice, your final boss, I think
- 22:01Speaker 2: to me, of this home schedule, before you are truly
- 22:05Speaker 2: in position A is going to be this very very
- 22:10Speaker 2: very long stretch coming up here on the road. But
- 22:13Speaker 2: yet you're facing as well a Florida team that isn't
- 22:17Speaker 2: playing their best and could very much miss the Stanley
- 22:19Speaker 2: Cup playoffs here for this year. So the Blues coming
- 22:23Speaker 2: up Ottawa coming up. Nashville is a big one here.
- 22:26Speaker 2: Colorado is in that Carolina category. If you're facing a
- 22:29Speaker 2: juggernaut and can you take down that juggernaut for two points?
- 22:33Speaker 2: But then the Canucks the Panthers, you get Florida again.
- 22:38Speaker 2: I mean, you find a way to take care of
- 22:40Speaker 2: business here all of a sudden, ninety points with where
- 22:43Speaker 2: they're at right now and the standings playing just about
- 22:46Speaker 2: a shade over five hundred hockey, that's very, very attainable.
- 22:50Speaker 2: The cracket are already at sixty seven points here, they
- 22:55Speaker 2: need twenty three more in just twenty two games coming up.
- 23:00Speaker 5: Yeah, I think ninety points is definitely attainable.
- 23:04Speaker 1: And coaches will break down the season in chunks, right,
- 23:08Speaker 1: you know Dave Hackstall, Dan Biosma, and they were more
- 23:11Speaker 1: of the five to seven game chunks.
- 23:13Speaker 5: I know, Dave Hackstall like to.
- 23:15Speaker 1: Break things down into kind of mini playoff series, right,
- 23:18Speaker 1: Every seven games is a playoff series, and you work
- 23:22Speaker 1: your way there. Cracking a struggled coming out of the break.
- 23:24Speaker 1: They're two and two in their last four, but if
- 23:26Speaker 1: you go over on their last ten games, Cracking are
- 23:28Speaker 1: seven and three. If you go seven and three over these.
- 23:31Speaker 1: You know, for every ten game segment, you go seven
- 23:34Speaker 1: and three over your last twenty one games, right, I
- 23:39Speaker 1: mean you're a playoff team, you know what I mean
- 23:42Speaker 1: that you're definitely in the playoffs. Or seven and three
- 23:44Speaker 1: seven three or seven three and one, seven to three,
- 23:46Speaker 1: whatever it is. If you find ways to get thirteen
- 23:50Speaker 1: to fourteen points out of every ten or out every
- 23:54Speaker 1: twenty coming up in the next twenty games, for you,
- 23:57Speaker 1: you're going to hit ninety points. I said before, the
- 24:01Speaker 1: schedule looks maybe a lot easier than it is. You know,
- 24:06Speaker 1: the playoff teams, you talked about Colorado twice, Tampa twice,
- 24:09Speaker 1: Vegas twice, and then Buffalo, Edmonton, Utah, Minnesota. But then
- 24:13Speaker 1: the Kings, I mean, the Kings made a big move.
- 24:15Speaker 1: They just fired Jim Hiller and they replaced him with
- 24:18Speaker 1: DJ Smith. Which listen, if you're a Kraken fan, I mean,
- 24:22Speaker 1: you wanted Jim Hiller to stick around for maybe another week,
- 24:25Speaker 1: just to help you out a little bit.
- 24:28Speaker 2: At the first game. Though they went out and lost
- 24:29Speaker 2: last night.
- 24:30Speaker 5: They did not all they did.
- 24:32Speaker 1: But anytime you bring in a brand new coach, you're
- 24:35Speaker 1: going to get that immediate shot in the arm. And
- 24:38Speaker 1: obviously our Temi Paneren does a lot for them as well.
- 24:41Speaker 1: But they're four back of you, five back of you,
- 24:44Speaker 1: four back of the wildcard. You got a game in
- 24:46Speaker 1: Nashville coming up to kick off that six game road trip.
- 24:49Speaker 1: They're four back of the wildcard, which, depending on what
- 24:52Speaker 1: happens in the top three in the division, the wildcard
- 24:55Speaker 1: very much is a possibility for Seattle. I mean, I
- 24:57Speaker 1: think it's gonna come down to Edmonton, Seattle, you tall,
- 25:00Speaker 1: maybe Anaheim for that second. Those two wildcard spots, and
- 25:05Speaker 1: then out East, although they don't matter to you and
- 25:09Speaker 1: the standings, Ottawa's five back, you've got them coming up
- 25:12Speaker 1: on Saturday, and then Columbus is three back of a
- 25:14Speaker 1: wildcard spot.
- 25:15Speaker 5: You're there after Nashville later this month.
- 25:18Speaker 1: So those two teams in particular, they're trying to get
- 25:20Speaker 1: back in the playoffs, so they're not going to roll
- 25:22Speaker 1: over either. So the schedule provides some good opportunity for
- 25:26Speaker 1: Seattle to test themselves against some good teams, but also
- 25:29Speaker 1: it provides them with an opportunity to say, hey.
- 25:32Speaker 5: We've beaten Carolina, we beat.
- 25:33Speaker 1: Winnipeg earlier in the year before they have their falloff,
- 25:36Speaker 1: they beat Edmonton here at home the Colorado game next week.
- 25:40Speaker 5: That's going to be the big test for me.
- 25:41Speaker 1: I think if they can get by Colorado, if they
- 25:44Speaker 1: can get Colorado to overtime, if they lose four to
- 25:48Speaker 1: three in the last two minutes of the third period,
- 25:50Speaker 1: when they played a really good game throughout, that will
- 25:54Speaker 1: answer a lot of questions for me.
- 25:57Speaker 5: Anyway, going into that stretch on the road.
- 26:00Speaker 2: Before we get to David Paniota, I did want to
- 26:03Speaker 2: again bring up Ryan Lindren. He was seen in a
- 26:05Speaker 2: red non contact jersey at morning skate on Monday before
- 26:10Speaker 2: the Carolina game, so it leads us here to believe
- 26:12Speaker 2: he could be a few days away, maybe even this weekend.
- 26:15Speaker 2: But did cale Flury's performance last night you think maybe
- 26:20Speaker 2: change course where this could be pushed maybe into next week,
- 26:24Speaker 2: to perhaps give lynd Gren more time if he needs.
- 26:27Speaker 4: Yeah, I think so, Mike.
- 26:29Speaker 6: I think that again, we've talked a lot about the
- 26:32Speaker 6: benefits of a healthy roster right now, and other than Lingren,
- 26:36Speaker 6: a very mostly healthy or healthy roster. Murray still on
- 26:41Speaker 6: IR as well. But I think when you when you
- 26:45Speaker 6: have that luxury, you have the luxury of giving a
- 26:48Speaker 6: guy an extra day or two if he needs it.
- 26:50Speaker 6: And for a guy that plays to kind of game
- 26:52Speaker 6: lingerin plays, I think he's a guy that could use
- 26:55Speaker 6: that extra day or two.
- 26:57Speaker 1: Yeah, cal Fleury has proven to be a really good option,
- 27:03Speaker 1: you know, in that seventh eighth defenseman category. It's been
- 27:06Speaker 1: also nice to see Kale this season get some more
- 27:10Speaker 1: consistent shifts on the ice. I mean, I remember, you know, Al,
- 27:13Speaker 1: you and I were talking to Calee back during training
- 27:16Speaker 1: camp and he was saying to us kind of effect that, hey,
- 27:19Speaker 1: I've been in this league now for a handful of years.
- 27:21Speaker 1: I'm twenty seven years old, primarily an AHL guy. This
- 27:25Speaker 1: is a make or break year for me. I'm kind
- 27:27Speaker 1: of paraphrasing his overall.
- 27:29Speaker 5: Comments, but you know, this is a big year.
- 27:31Speaker 1: I need to show that I belong in the NHL
- 27:34Speaker 1: and I'm a full time NHLer And I think he's
- 27:37Speaker 1: proven that. Even though he's only got eighteen games this season,
- 27:40Speaker 1: the games that he has played and he's been effective,
- 27:42Speaker 1: He's not been out of place. He's been up here
- 27:45Speaker 1: all year long for the crack. And I also respect
- 27:49Speaker 1: a guy like cal Fleury for maybe wanting to play more,
- 27:54Speaker 1: but he knows his role. He doesn't complain. He's out
- 27:57Speaker 1: there to help the team as much as he can.
- 27:59Speaker 1: And every time I see him, he's gonna smile on
- 28:02Speaker 1: his face like he's happy to be in the National
- 28:04Speaker 1: Hockey League and you need a lot of guys like
- 28:06Speaker 1: that on your team.
- 28:08Speaker 5: He's got a goal and an assist.
- 28:09Speaker 1: I remember when he scored that goal, his first goal
- 28:11Speaker 1: in over two thousand days, back against Vancouver on January second.
- 28:16Speaker 1: I like the way that he plays. He's been able
- 28:18Speaker 1: to come in. He can slide and play with anyone
- 28:21Speaker 1: on the defensive corps. And you're right, I think that
- 28:23Speaker 1: game against Carolina last night showed me that if Lyndren
- 28:28Speaker 1: needs another day, he needs another.
- 28:30Speaker 5: Couple of games.
- 28:31Speaker 1: I have zero issue putting Calle Flury in that spot.
- 28:36Speaker 5: You know, to more than fill in that role for
- 28:39Speaker 5: Ryan lingran.
- 28:40Speaker 2: Again Kale Flury last night. Eighteen shifts, fourteen to eight
- 28:44Speaker 2: of ice time, two hits, four block shots as well.
- 28:48Speaker 2: My goodness for coming off the ben, so to speak,
- 28:51Speaker 2: in a depth role. That is a lease that you
- 28:52Speaker 2: can ask for here until the crack and can finally
- 28:55Speaker 2: get Ryan lynd Grin back again. Lane Lambert confirming he
- 28:58Speaker 2: is day to day all right again, pull question of
- 29:00Speaker 2: the way. Do you think ninety points will be enough
- 29:03Speaker 2: to make the playoffs this season in the Western Conference?
- 29:06Speaker 2: Go and vote right now with Crack and audio net
- 29:08Speaker 2: at Twitter NX. The one and only day Panyota right
- 29:13Speaker 2: after this right here on Cracking Weekly on ninety three
- 29:15Speaker 2: three KJRFM. Let's just say we have our shovels ready
- 29:20Speaker 2: and set to dig in Day Panyoda coming up in
- 29:23Speaker 2: just a bit here from the fourth period and NHL
- 29:25Speaker 2: Network before that time. Now for a look at the Firebirds,
- 29:29Speaker 2: so hanging in right now in the playoff race again
- 29:31Speaker 2: top seven make it in the Pacific Division. The Firebirds
- 29:34Speaker 2: within twenty games left right now fifth place and their
- 29:38Speaker 2: record at twenty eight nineteen and five sixty one points,
- 29:43Speaker 2: six points clear of the cut line in the Pacific Division.
- 29:47Speaker 2: They got a one off stop coming up in Henderson tomorrow,
- 29:50Speaker 2: that going down at seven o'clock and then back at
- 29:53Speaker 2: home back to back home games against the Calgary Wranglers
- 29:56Speaker 2: beginning on Saturday. That's a six pm faceop than three
- 30:00Speaker 2: pm for the rematch coming up on Sunday at Atrissure Arena.
- 30:04Speaker 2: Logan Morrison, Jagger, Fergus by the way, your co leading
- 30:07Speaker 2: scorers for the Firebirds. They are right now ninth and
- 30:10Speaker 2: tenth in American Hockey League scoring. Morrison leaves the Firebirds
- 30:14Speaker 2: twenty four goals. Furcus not too far behind him with nineteen.
- 30:18Speaker 2: Tyson Jugnat continuing to build his case right now as
- 30:22Speaker 2: a crack and prospect on the back end, he is
- 30:25Speaker 2: fifth amongst all defensemen in scoring and fourth amongst all
- 30:29Speaker 2: American Hockey League rookies in scoring as well. Seven goals
- 30:34Speaker 2: twenty eight assists in a thirty five point effort all
- 30:38Speaker 2: across fifty two games. You better believe it this keeps up.
- 30:41Speaker 2: We might be seeing Tyson Jugnass sooner then later. But
- 30:45Speaker 2: of course, you know, defenseman take a little bit more
- 30:47Speaker 2: time here to blue him and blossom as compared to Ford's,
- 30:51Speaker 2: especially when it comes to the minor league ranks. Again.
- 30:54Speaker 2: More Firebirds information Cvfirebirds dot Com. All right, without further
- 31:00Speaker 2: NHL trade deadline coming up this Friday noon Pacific time.
- 31:05Speaker 2: We can basically say, as of this point, the crack
- 31:07Speaker 2: and looking to be buyers here in this market, how
- 31:10Speaker 2: deep do they have to go to dig up a
- 31:13Speaker 2: top line or a top six score for a scoring
- 31:16Speaker 2: bump for them who could be out there and maybe
- 31:19Speaker 2: who might be on the move still here from this roster.
- 31:22Speaker 2: A lot of questions and a great place right here
- 31:25Speaker 2: to go for answers. All right, that brings us to
- 31:28Speaker 2: the Beacon Plumbing Hotline. A pleasure to have the one
- 31:31Speaker 2: and only David Paniota joining us here on Cracking Weekly.
- 31:36Speaker 2: His handiwork at the fourth period also seen on NHL
- 31:39Speaker 2: Network here on SiriusXM, NHL Network Radio. And I would
- 31:43Speaker 2: bet the cell phone bill, the phone calls, the text
- 31:46Speaker 2: messages are enormous here for this week. David, Thank you
- 31:51Speaker 2: for joining us here. How is that cell phone by
- 31:54Speaker 2: the way this week?
- 31:56Speaker 4: Thanks for having me.
- 31:57Speaker 6: It's warm, trying to cool it down every now and
- 32:01Speaker 6: again when I can, but yeah, keeping a charge, keeping
- 32:05Speaker 6: the coffee pot full. And it's hopefully going to be
- 32:09Speaker 6: a pretty exciting week.
- 32:10Speaker 2: Yeah for you and others in this capacity. It's the
- 32:13Speaker 2: most wonderful time of the year. As they say, trade
- 32:16Speaker 2: deadline coming up on Friday at noon Pacific time. I'll
- 32:19Speaker 2: first get into this here. It is so tight, especially
- 32:23Speaker 2: in the Western conference, how much, especially in how quiet
- 32:27Speaker 2: it was maybe this week to begin does the standings
- 32:31Speaker 2: that you think maybe having effect potentially on movement.
- 32:35Speaker 4: Yeah, without a doubt it does.
- 32:37Speaker 6: I'm talking with a number of different gms and others
- 32:40Speaker 6: around the league. You know, a lot of teams are
- 32:43Speaker 6: a little bit hesitant to still do a little bit
- 32:45Speaker 6: of business early because they want to see how their
- 32:48Speaker 6: team performs, and it's also not only how their team performs,
- 32:52Speaker 6: but how others perform, to see how they can gauge
- 32:54Speaker 6: the seller's market for teams that are buying and vice versa.
- 32:58Speaker 6: So we may see, well, we did see a move
- 33:01Speaker 6: you know early between Chicago and Edmonton. We may see
- 33:04Speaker 6: a few more kind of trickle in, but it really
- 33:06Speaker 6: looks like Thursday and Friday day off the deadline seems
- 33:09Speaker 6: to be when a lot of business is expected to
- 33:11Speaker 6: get done league wide. You know, talks really started to
- 33:16Speaker 6: pick up about a week before the season resumed from
- 33:19Speaker 6: the Olympic break and everybody gauging the market, trying to
- 33:23Speaker 6: understand what the prices are, and then going back into
- 33:25Speaker 6: the start of the season, things just continue to escalate.
- 33:28Speaker 6: But everybody's still proceeding with a little bit of caution here,
- 33:31Speaker 6: or at least a good chunk of teams because they
- 33:33Speaker 6: still want to have a better understanding is where they're
- 33:35Speaker 6: where they're positioning, is going into Friday's deadline.
- 33:39Speaker 1: You know, David, a lot of folks know how aggressive
- 33:44Speaker 1: the Kraken probably should be. You know, this team for
- 33:47Speaker 1: the last couple of years has been talking about wanting
- 33:49Speaker 1: and needing a bona fide.
- 33:52Speaker 5: Forward, how aggressive?
- 33:54Speaker 1: What types of move do you expect the Cracking to make,
- 33:57Speaker 1: because there's there's a difference there the Krack and need
- 34:00Speaker 1: to do X.
- 34:01Speaker 5: What do you expect them to.
- 34:02Speaker 6: Do right exactly? It takes two to tango. So they
- 34:06Speaker 6: can continue to search as much as they want. They've
- 34:08Speaker 6: got to find somebody else to dance with. And we
- 34:12Speaker 6: know that they've explored big names before. I put Seattle
- 34:14Speaker 6: into the category of big fish hunting. If they can
- 34:17Speaker 6: find that big fish at either end of the ice,
- 34:20Speaker 6: preferably upfront, then I think, you know, Jason Botterol and
- 34:23Speaker 6: Ron Francis and company are going to want to pull
- 34:25Speaker 6: the trigger on that. They've been exploring it going back
- 34:27Speaker 6: to last off season, going back to last season and
- 34:30Speaker 6: continue to We've seen them connected to guys like Jordan
- 34:33Speaker 6: Cayrou and of course they tried with respect to our
- 34:36Speaker 6: Tammy Panerin before he was traded to Los Angeles.
- 34:38Speaker 4: That just goes to show you.
- 34:39Speaker 6: The type of pool that they're fishing in, and that's
- 34:42Speaker 6: what they would like to do. There have been some
- 34:43Speaker 6: teams that have poked around on some of their pending
- 34:45Speaker 6: unrestricted free agents. Everything and every indication that I've been
- 34:49Speaker 6: given is that they want to.
- 34:49Speaker 4: Hold on to their guys.
- 34:51Speaker 6: They'll talk after the trade deadline and resume contract discussions
- 34:55Speaker 6: with a lot of those players.
- 34:56Speaker 4: After the deadline.
- 34:57Speaker 6: They want to focus on adding and again two to
- 35:00Speaker 6: pull this off. But from every indication I've been given
- 35:04Speaker 6: from people close to the organization and league wide, they
- 35:07Speaker 6: would like to make a splash. And if they can't
- 35:09Speaker 6: pull it off now, they're going to continue to look
- 35:11Speaker 6: to do that in the summer around draft time. But
- 35:13Speaker 6: that's the priority for this club right now. Make a
- 35:15Speaker 6: big splash. See if you can add a top six
- 35:17Speaker 6: preferably a first line type of player. And it wouldn't
- 35:20Speaker 6: shock me if they can actually do that between now
- 35:23Speaker 6: and the deadline. David, you know a lot of times
- 35:26Speaker 6: we talk to fans and the question we always get
- 35:28Speaker 6: asked is are the crack I'm going to make it,
- 35:30Speaker 6: make a move?
- 35:31Speaker 4: Are they going to make it?
- 35:31Speaker 6: And you know, we all know on this call that
- 35:35Speaker 6: it takes more than just answering that question. You've got
- 35:37Speaker 6: to find a team that's interested in something you have.
- 35:40Speaker 6: You've got to find a GM that you've got a
- 35:42Speaker 6: relationship with, You've got to find a player that wants
- 35:46Speaker 6: to play in Seattle. And so you know, you know
- 35:49Speaker 6: a lot of the names that are floating around out
- 35:50Speaker 6: there that might be candidates to be moved. Who do
- 35:54Speaker 6: you think are you know a couple of the favorites
- 35:56Speaker 6: that might be good fits in Seattle? Well, I think
- 36:01Speaker 6: they're going to continue if they haven't already, and I
- 36:03Speaker 6: suspect they have to circle back on guys like Cairo,
- 36:07Speaker 6: a player like Robert Thomas, his teammate in Saint Louis. Again,
- 36:11Speaker 6: those caliber of players that that are available that are
- 36:15Speaker 6: out there, there are others that are you know, you
- 36:18Speaker 6: have nosen Kadri and Vinnie Trochek and Braden Shan and
- 36:22Speaker 6: Ryan O'Reilly and so on that kind of you know,
- 36:24Speaker 6: have generated a ton of interest le league wide, But
- 36:26Speaker 6: it seems like the priority is top tier star to
- 36:30Speaker 6: add to this, to add to this lineup easier said
- 36:33Speaker 6: than done, clearly, because they would have done it already.
- 36:36Speaker 6: But you know, Bottlerel and everybody are trying to find
- 36:39Speaker 6: that one piece that they can add to to the group.
- 36:41Speaker 4: And it's not exclusive to a center or a winger.
- 36:45Speaker 6: If it is a winger, great they can add that
- 36:47Speaker 6: to the first line and immediately implement that. But that's
- 36:49Speaker 6: what they've been that's what they've been trying to do,
- 36:51Speaker 6: and it seems like they might be a little more
- 36:53Speaker 6: geared to the wing, but again, we'll see where that goes.
- 36:56Speaker 6: The other name that I'm a little bit curious about
- 36:58Speaker 6: is Elias Petterson not too far away in Vancouver. There
- 37:01Speaker 6: are teams that have interest in him. The Canucks have
- 37:03Speaker 6: made it clear they don't want to retain on that contract.
- 37:05Speaker 6: He's got eleven point six million dollars aav and they
- 37:09Speaker 6: are willing to listen. And a team like Seattle, with
- 37:12Speaker 6: a lot of cap space sitting around twenty twenty one
- 37:14Speaker 6: million right now, they have the financial flexibility to do it.
- 37:19Speaker 6: You know, whether they have the assets, the pieces in
- 37:21Speaker 6: the drive to pull that off, we you know, obviously
- 37:23Speaker 6: we'll have to wait and see. But again, these are
- 37:26Speaker 6: you know, top tier names across the National Hockey League,
- 37:29Speaker 6: and these are the caliber of players that Seattle is
- 37:31Speaker 6: trying to add over these next few days.
- 37:33Speaker 2: David Paniota joining us here on Cracking Weekly. I'll get
- 37:36Speaker 2: here to the Elias Peterson and Jake Debrust thing that
- 37:39Speaker 2: name also surfacing in just a bit here, But going
- 37:43Speaker 2: back here to Thomas and Jordan Kiro, David, as far
- 37:47Speaker 2: as what they're commanding here in the marketplace, what's the
- 37:51Speaker 2: realistic asking price right now where you see a lot
- 37:55Speaker 2: of teams, you know, pooning up the best offer here
- 37:57Speaker 2: for them.
- 37:59Speaker 6: Yeah, there's substantials. Certainly Thomas is higher than that of
- 38:02Speaker 6: Cayrou's by all indications. Thomas is the package and the
- 38:06Speaker 6: cost that it would take. You're looking at a top
- 38:09Speaker 6: tier prospect, a first round pick and at least one
- 38:12Speaker 6: other asset to bring him out of Saint Louis, and
- 38:16Speaker 6: I think Kyros is a little bit less. You're probably
- 38:18Speaker 6: looking at a first round pick in a top prospect,
- 38:20Speaker 6: whereas for Thomas, you've got to add at least one
- 38:22Speaker 6: other piece as part of that. Now, the crack can
- 38:25Speaker 6: do have a pretty solid base. They've got some assets
- 38:29Speaker 6: that you know, some teams are certainly interested in. And
- 38:33Speaker 6: we've heard, you know, Shane Wright's name floating around. He's
- 38:36Speaker 6: been one carrot that the team seems to be willing
- 38:39Speaker 6: to dangle and and that other teams have expressed interest in.
- 38:43Speaker 6: That might be a centerpiece of a potential return depending
- 38:46Speaker 6: on the type of deal that comes into play here
- 38:48Speaker 6: for either of those guys or somebody else. But it's
- 38:52Speaker 6: going to be hefty, and it's one thing to take
- 38:54Speaker 6: on big dollars because both of those guys have eight
- 38:56Speaker 6: point one twenty five million dollars cap hits. Again, they
- 38:59Speaker 6: have the flexibility to add those caliber players and those
- 39:02Speaker 6: players with high prices, but you've got to give up
- 39:05Speaker 6: a certain package in order to achieve that. And that's
- 39:08Speaker 6: what clearly they seem to be evaluating when it.
- 39:11Speaker 1: Comes to these names, the prospects or the players the
- 39:15Speaker 1: Kraken could potentially be getting.
- 39:17Speaker 5: Does term matter?
- 39:18Speaker 1: I mean, are the Kraken looking for a rental or
- 39:21Speaker 1: are they looking for someone who has a year two
- 39:24Speaker 1: three left on their deal that if we're going to
- 39:27Speaker 1: give up, say a Shane Wright, we want to have
- 39:30Speaker 1: another piece that we can at least build upon for
- 39:33Speaker 1: the next couple of years and hopefully re sign long term.
- 39:37Speaker 6: Yeah, if we're talking about players of you know, Shane
- 39:41Speaker 6: writes Elk, you're you're looking at somebody with term. You're
- 39:45Speaker 6: looking at somebody who's not just going to help this
- 39:47Speaker 6: team now, not just going to help this team next season,
- 39:49Speaker 6: but for the foreseeable future, presumably a piece that's going
- 39:52Speaker 6: to build with this group and grow, which I should
- 39:54Speaker 6: say with this group as they continue to build into
- 39:57Speaker 6: into legitimate, you know, year after year and tenders. The
- 40:00Speaker 6: Panerian thing was a little bit different. Those caliber players
- 40:04Speaker 6: don't come around too often, and given the age, a
- 40:07Speaker 6: three year extension kind of tied to it made sense.
- 40:10Speaker 4: But for some of the others that are out there, Yeah.
- 40:13Speaker 6: They're primarily looking for controllable assets that either have full
- 40:17Speaker 6: term or are controllabile still of RFA status on the
- 40:20Speaker 6: restricted side, so you can still control their their future
- 40:25Speaker 6: and their fate moving forward. So if they do make
- 40:27Speaker 6: that type of impact move by moving out some of
- 40:29Speaker 6: their key young pieces or prospects slash draft picks, they
- 40:33Speaker 6: want to make sure that they're bringing in somebody who's
- 40:34Speaker 6: going to work with this team and the longevity of
- 40:36Speaker 6: that career is going to build with the Kraken. Put
- 40:40Speaker 6: your your biggest odds had on for a second, David,
- 40:43Speaker 6: then give us a few names who you think are
- 40:46Speaker 6: high likely not to be on their teams here in
- 40:48Speaker 6: a week. I suspect Blake Coleman is one player out
- 40:51Speaker 6: of Calgary that's going to be moved out over these
- 40:53Speaker 6: next few days. He's certainly at the top of my list.
- 40:58Speaker 6: I think we've got a few plays on Saint Louis.
- 41:01Speaker 6: You know, Cayrou and Thomas are so tough because of
- 41:03Speaker 6: how good they are and how those packages are. It's
- 41:05Speaker 6: hard to handicap you know kind of where that's that's
- 41:07Speaker 6: going to go. But I think Justin Falk is a
- 41:09Speaker 6: prime candidate to be moved. He has another him like Coleman,
- 41:13Speaker 6: both with one year left on their contracts.
- 41:15Speaker 4: What we've what we've been seeing lately is guys.
- 41:17Speaker 6: With term that have that aren't necessarily pure rentals on
- 41:21Speaker 6: expiring deals becoming more attractive because of how the salary
- 41:25Speaker 6: cap has increased, and everybody can kind of map out
- 41:27Speaker 6: their game plan rather than just have to figure it
- 41:30Speaker 6: out in the summer and move on. You can forecast
- 41:33Speaker 6: a little bit how your roster is going to look.
- 41:35Speaker 6: So teams are looking at players like Fulk with one
- 41:38Speaker 6: year left with Coleman, like Coleman, excuse me, with with
- 41:40Speaker 6: one year left as well. It seems like Coleman's teammate
- 41:43Speaker 6: nozem Kadri, there's a growing an increased chance that he
- 41:47Speaker 6: is going to be moved ahead of the deadline as well.
- 41:50Speaker 6: Also another name, Patrick lion A in Montreal. The Canadians
- 41:53Speaker 6: are looking to free up a little bit of cap space.
- 41:54Speaker 6: They've been talking to a number of teams about line eight.
- 41:58Speaker 6: It sounds like they'll retain on that deal. He's on
- 42:00Speaker 6: an expiring contract, but the expectation surrounding him is that
- 42:04Speaker 6: he will be moved ahead of the deadline. So the
- 42:06Speaker 6: odds a little bit more favorable on that front as well.
- 42:11Speaker 6: Andrew Manngrepani, who just cleared waivers in Edmonton. They've been
- 42:14Speaker 6: trying to move him. They're going to continue to do that.
- 42:16Speaker 6: A good chance and again expectation on that front that
- 42:19Speaker 6: he will find a new home over these next few days.
- 42:23Speaker 4: And Vinnie Trochek is.
- 42:24Speaker 6: Another one that by all indications, will be moved ahead
- 42:27Speaker 6: of the deadline. Big price as well for him, lower
- 42:30Speaker 6: cap hit at five point six two five million.
- 42:32Speaker 4: He's got three years left on that contract.
- 42:34Speaker 6: He's indicated and told everybody that he wants to stay
- 42:37Speaker 6: East or as close to East as possible.
- 42:40Speaker 4: So not a fit here, but you know, certainly.
- 42:42Speaker 6: A player that other teams are going to look at,
- 42:44Speaker 6: and the expectation on that end as well is that
- 42:46Speaker 6: he'll be moved by Friday's deadline.
- 42:48Speaker 5: Back to the comment that is son.
- 42:50Speaker 1: I love the comment that Trochek's sun had the other day, right, Yeah,
- 42:53Speaker 1: he was preparing his kid for the opportunity that he
- 42:56Speaker 1: could be traded, and his son is seven, and he goes, well, Dad,
- 42:59Speaker 1: I'm staying here because I've not been traded from my
- 43:01Speaker 1: hockey team.
- 43:02Speaker 6: So I thought that was that was awesome. I like
- 43:05Speaker 6: that quote of the year already. Oh yeah, oh yeah.
- 43:08Speaker 2: Kids are real, Families are real. This trade deadline is real, David.
- 43:12Speaker 2: I want to get back here to the situation with
- 43:14Speaker 2: the LEAs Peterson and the Canucks where it just seems
- 43:17Speaker 2: like anything goes right now with their roster and time
- 43:20Speaker 2: is ticking. Jake Debrusk's name is in there. I kind
- 43:23Speaker 2: of got the sense maybe he would have been a
- 43:25Speaker 2: fit when he was originally available about a couple of
- 43:28Speaker 2: summers ago. Here on the crack inside Brock Besser's name
- 43:31Speaker 2: is out there. But between Besser Debrusk Petterson, what difference
- 43:36Speaker 2: is there to you, I think, for the fit in
- 43:38Speaker 2: this process and what it would take to get them
- 43:42Speaker 2: either one of them here and maybe what kind of
- 43:44Speaker 2: difference of a timeline are we looking at as well
- 43:46Speaker 2: now than say versus a summer when they could maybe
- 43:49Speaker 2: be on the move next.
- 43:51Speaker 6: Right, I'll throw kind of Garland in that mix as well.
- 43:53Speaker 6: He's very much available in Vancouver. And you know, these
- 43:58Speaker 6: types of players, and I think the Brusk actually acknowledged
- 44:01Speaker 6: this the other day that with the shift in direction
- 44:04Speaker 6: for the Canucks now going into a full rebuild, that's
- 44:07Speaker 6: not desirable for a lot of these players, especially those
- 44:10Speaker 6: who have been in the league for a while and
- 44:11Speaker 6: want to chase a championship, want to compete and win
- 44:14Speaker 6: on a regular basis. It's not exactly what the Brust
- 44:17Speaker 6: signed up for when he signed there as a free
- 44:18Speaker 6: agent a couple summers ago. You know, he wanted to
- 44:21Speaker 6: be in a position where he was going to be
- 44:23Speaker 6: on a contender and that's just not the case, there's
- 44:27Speaker 6: a willingness. He has a full no move, there is
- 44:29Speaker 6: a willingness for him to waive for the right for
- 44:31Speaker 6: what he feels is the right environment. So the Canucks
- 44:33Speaker 6: will continue those talks. They haven't been overly vast lately.
- 44:37Speaker 6: I think those conversations are going to start to pick
- 44:40Speaker 6: up on that front. Garland certainly a lot of interest there.
- 44:44Speaker 6: The price tags for those players certainly different than that
- 44:47Speaker 6: of Eleaz Petterson. But Petterson's case is fairly unique because
- 44:51Speaker 6: of his cap hit, where he's at and the struggles
- 44:53Speaker 6: that he's had over the last few seasons.
- 44:56Speaker 4: And he acknowledged this on Monday.
- 44:57Speaker 6: That he has not lived up to those expectationtions of
- 45:00Speaker 6: that contract and he's trying to get back in it.
- 45:03Speaker 6: A lot of people that have inter a lot of
- 45:04Speaker 6: teams excuse me, that have interest in him, believe he
- 45:07Speaker 6: can go back to that eighty ninety point player that
- 45:10Speaker 6: he was a few seasons ago.
- 45:12Speaker 4: But you're not paying for an eighty ninety point player.
- 45:15Speaker 6: You're paying, excuse me, for the player that he effectively is.
- 45:18Speaker 6: Plus with that salary cap hit of eleven point six million,
- 45:22Speaker 6: you're not going to be paying a premium for this player.
- 45:24Speaker 6: And I think the Canucks understand because they're not willing
- 45:26Speaker 6: to retain and how the player has been the last
- 45:29Speaker 6: few years, that they're not.
- 45:30Speaker 4: Going to get maximum value for him.
- 45:33Speaker 6: They're looking for a key piece, a centerpiece of that deal,
- 45:35Speaker 6: to be a top level prospect or young NHL caliber
- 45:38Speaker 6: player already that has first second line potential and then
- 45:43Speaker 6: other pieces added to it. That's kind of the price
- 45:46Speaker 6: tag there for guys like Connor, Garland and Debrusque, similar
- 45:49Speaker 6: type of mindset, first round pick in an additional last
- 45:52Speaker 6: set or equivalent value to a first round pick, and
- 45:55Speaker 6: another prospect added to it. So we'll see whether it's
- 45:58Speaker 6: a Crack or another team stepping up Vancouver listing on
- 46:01Speaker 6: a variety of different players, including their top tier guys.
- 46:04Speaker 1: I got one more for you here, David, and I've
- 46:06Speaker 1: always I've always want to ask someone in the know
- 46:09Speaker 1: this question.
- 46:10Speaker 5: You look at the NBA trade deadline.
- 46:12Speaker 1: They make this back early February with thirty some odd
- 46:16Speaker 1: games left, thirty five games after the season. When you're
- 46:19Speaker 1: looking at the NHL deadline and it's coming down after
- 46:22Speaker 1: the deadline, the Crack and will have twenty games left
- 46:25Speaker 1: in the regular season. Would you advocate or do Do you
- 46:29Speaker 1: think the timing of the deadline for the NHL is
- 46:33Speaker 1: one that works. Do you want to see it earlier
- 46:35Speaker 1: to maybe have if I'm giving up a first round pick,
- 46:39Speaker 1: or if I'm giving up all these top prospects, I'd
- 46:41Speaker 1: like more than twenty games to have this player. Where
- 46:45Speaker 1: do you stand on the timing overall of the deadline?
- 46:48Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't mind it personally.
- 46:50Speaker 6: It keeps it around the twenty five percent mark of
- 46:53Speaker 6: the regular season. It does add additional excitement. It does
- 46:57Speaker 6: provide a bit of a gap in the schedule in
- 46:59Speaker 6: terms of where we're at in the beginning.
- 47:01Speaker 4: Typically you've got All Star weekend.
- 47:03Speaker 6: This this year we had, you know, obviously the Olympics
- 47:06Speaker 6: last year was four Nations All Star returns next season,
- 47:09Speaker 6: so there's still a bit of a buffer after that,
- 47:10Speaker 6: and then you get into the home stretch after the deadline,
- 47:13Speaker 6: into into playoff mode. I kind of maybe it's because
- 47:16Speaker 6: I'm so acclimated to it and accustomed to it just
- 47:19Speaker 6: kind of flows. But I don't mind that flow. I
- 47:21Speaker 6: like I kind of like where things are at. You've
- 47:24Speaker 6: got that twenty game stretch before the playoffs where you know,
- 47:27Speaker 6: effectively for all the playoff bound teams, it's a full,
- 47:30Speaker 6: you know, steam ahead race and the hockey kind of intensifies.
- 47:33Speaker 6: It's kind of like mini playoffs before you get to
- 47:36Speaker 6: the actual playoff, which is which is why the NHL
- 47:39Speaker 6: has been such an advocate against expanding the playoff format
- 47:43Speaker 6: and going towards like a play in tournament. They feel that,
- 47:46Speaker 6: especially that stretch with the intensity for a lot of
- 47:49Speaker 6: those games, that's that's basically their playing tournament, and then
- 47:52Speaker 6: you get the playoffs itself. If lee continues to grow,
- 47:55Speaker 6: maybe that changes, but that's where they're at now, and honestly,
- 47:59Speaker 6: I don't mind it.
- 47:59Speaker 4: I like this scheduling of it.
- 48:01Speaker 6: I wouldn't mind NHL GM's being as bold and aggressive
- 48:05Speaker 6: as the NBA gms because those are some some pretty
- 48:08Speaker 6: wild and exciting trades.
- 48:09Speaker 5: Trading six first picks for one.
- 48:12Speaker 2: Content Thunderland here for radio.
- 48:14Speaker 6: I'll tell you that, yeah, yeah, exactly, add so much
- 48:17Speaker 6: more to the conversation.
- 48:19Speaker 4: But you know, maybe we'll see some more fireworks.
- 48:21Speaker 6: Of maybe not of that ad magnitude, but some fun
- 48:24Speaker 6: ones here later this week.
- 48:25Speaker 4: Is again, it looks like we're.
- 48:27Speaker 6: Going to see a lot of activity, maybe Thursday and
- 48:30Speaker 6: definitely Friday. But yeah, if they want to go to
- 48:33Speaker 6: the NBA route in terms of the explosive nature of
- 48:35Speaker 6: those deals, I'm all for it.
- 48:37Speaker 2: David, Hey, one more before we wrap this up here
- 48:39Speaker 2: and get the fireworks maybe ready here for you and
- 48:40Speaker 2: everybody else. You mentioned the l E. Tobn in situation
- 48:43Speaker 2: where an extension could be maybe on the table and
- 48:47Speaker 2: he's not going to get moved really unless there's a
- 48:49Speaker 2: big wow offer. But I mean, when you look at
- 48:52Speaker 2: the context of the remaining UFAs and their scenarios here,
- 48:56Speaker 2: is this still an open door where someone is moved
- 48:59Speaker 2: off the off or is there like a hockey trade
- 49:02Speaker 2: or the krack and don't want them move period, or
- 49:04Speaker 2: where this is kind of like an own rental maybe
- 49:07Speaker 2: until extensions are basically reached.
- 49:10Speaker 6: Yeah, my understanding with with tolven and the other three
- 49:13Speaker 6: key you know, Penning, Ufa, Schwartz, every and Alexiak Excuse me,
- 49:20Speaker 6: it sounds like the messaging to them was Hank tight,
- 49:23Speaker 6: we have no plans to move you. Someone's going to
- 49:25Speaker 6: have to really convince us, uh for us to even
- 49:28Speaker 6: consider that possibility right now, because they're they're mindset's on
- 49:31Speaker 6: the playoffs and they're trying to add to this group.
- 49:34Speaker 6: So unless they're completely you know, blown away by by
- 49:37Speaker 6: an offer, it sounds like those guys are going to
- 49:39Speaker 6: stay for the time being. And I was told that
- 49:41Speaker 6: extension conversations will get back to it after the deadline,
- 49:45Speaker 6: So perhaps next week is when things will start to
- 49:48Speaker 6: pick up on tolven In's front, and uh some of
- 49:51Speaker 6: the other some of the other guys as well, So effectively,
- 49:54Speaker 6: I guess, technically, because they're not going to be locked
- 49:55Speaker 6: in early utilized as their own rentals for the time being.
- 49:59Speaker 6: But the plan is to have those conversations or at
- 50:01Speaker 6: least pick up those conversations contract wise after the deadline
- 50:04Speaker 6: as they look to as they look to add. So
- 50:07Speaker 6: I'd be a little bit surprised, but as I if
- 50:10Speaker 6: any of those guys removed, but as I said, unless
- 50:13Speaker 6: their socks are blown off, you know, it's a possibility,
- 50:16Speaker 6: but more likely that they stick around and that the
- 50:18Speaker 6: cracking ads in this group in the next few days.
- 50:21Speaker 2: Great stuff here, David Panyota, Busiest time of the year,
- 50:24Speaker 2: most wonderful time of the year, joining us here from

- 50:37Speaker 4: Thank that would be lovely. Thank you, thanks for having.
- 50:40Speaker 2: Me, guys, fantastic once again, appreciate the info, David, Thank
- 50:43Speaker 2: you very much. As David pan Yota. By the way,
- 50:45Speaker 2: find him at Twitter and x at the fourth period.
- 50:48Speaker 2: His handiwork also seen via NHL Network and heard via
- 50:52Speaker 2: Sirius XM, NHL Network Radio. NHL insider David Panyoda joining
- 50:57Speaker 2: us here on the Beacon Plumbing hotline. All right, more
- 51:00Speaker 2: reaction plus our three stars coming up after this right
- 51:02Speaker 2: here on Cracking Weekly on ninety three to three KJRFM.
- 51:07Speaker 2: Cracking Audio Net the place to votes for our whole
- 51:09Speaker 2: question of the week. Do you see ninety points being
- 51:13Speaker 2: enough here to make the Stanley Cup playoffs? As of
- 51:15Speaker 2: right now, A staggering seventy two percent of you say
- 51:20Speaker 2: the answer is yes. Seventy two percent of you say
- 51:23Speaker 2: ninety points will be enough to make the Stanley Cup playoffs.
- 51:27Speaker 2: Go and vote right now at Twitter and XS at
- 51:29Speaker 2: Cracking Audio nets again to reach that mark for the Kraken,
- 51:34Speaker 2: it will require twenty three points only in the final
- 51:37Speaker 2: twenty two games of the regular season. All right, trade
- 51:41Speaker 2: deadline once again coming up noon Pacific time this Friday.
- 51:44Speaker 5: Eight.
- 51:44Speaker 2: My goodness, David Panota, thank you very much. That was
- 51:48Speaker 2: a treasure trove of information. Oh my god, that.
- 51:53Speaker 5: Might have been one of our best conversations.
- 51:55Speaker 4: Because of anything we said.
- 51:56Speaker 5: His answers, Oh yeah, no.
- 51:57Speaker 1: No, we yeah, we If anything, we brought it down
- 52:00Speaker 1: a little bit, he made he made us sound like
- 52:04Speaker 1: we knew what we're talking about.
- 52:05Speaker 2: He is, he has called an insider for certainly a
- 52:09Speaker 2: very particular reason. That's a big tip of the cap
- 52:11Speaker 2: here to David Paniota joining us.
- 52:14Speaker 1: These guys, like, I want to ask a David Paniota,
- 52:17Speaker 1: Elliott Freeman, you know, on the on the NFL side,
- 52:20Speaker 1: Adam Schefter, how do you become an insider?
- 52:23Speaker 4: You know what I mean?
- 52:24Speaker 5: Like, because a lot of these guys aren't former players,
- 52:28Speaker 5: they're not coaches, they're not you.
- 52:30Speaker 1: Know, as far as we know, they're not in the
- 52:34Speaker 1: in crowd.
- 52:35Speaker 5: How do they get in the in crowd?
- 52:37Speaker 1: You know, I've always been curious, and I don't think
- 52:39Speaker 1: that's something you can ever ask an insider publicly that
- 52:42Speaker 1: maybe one of those things where you open up a
- 52:44Speaker 1: bottle of line and you swear to secrecy.
- 52:46Speaker 5: But I'm always curious how these guys build.
- 52:50Speaker 1: And forage these relationships to become insiders. It's always been
- 52:54Speaker 1: fascinating to me that.
- 52:55Speaker 2: That always, to me goes back to the old rule
- 52:57Speaker 2: of journalism, where I know, ever reveal my inside sources?
- 53:01Speaker 5: Oh no, never.
- 53:02Speaker 2: But I'm curious how thick that rollodex is. That's a
- 53:06Speaker 2: big thing for me, and how big.
- 53:08Speaker 1: The big for the big guys too right, for the
- 53:11Speaker 1: for the Shefters, for the Elliott Friedman's, Bob McKenzie before
- 53:14Speaker 1: he retired. You know, you look at Sham's in the NBA,
- 53:18Speaker 1: you know Jeff Passing in Major League Baseball. These guys
- 53:22Speaker 1: have been doing it for fifteen, twenty thirty plus years.
- 53:26Speaker 1: I mean they how much info can you store in
- 53:29Speaker 1: a phone? And that again, it was it was. It's
- 53:33Speaker 1: always been something that I love a thirty for thirty
- 53:36Speaker 1: on how to become an insider or behind the scenes
- 53:39Speaker 1: and becoming an insider, And that's something that I've always
- 53:42Speaker 1: always been curious about.
- 53:43Speaker 2: I can't wait for the wildest stories for that thirty
- 53:45Speaker 2: for thirty because we hear of a court we at
- 53:47Speaker 2: least see Elliott Freeman literally texting as he's doing a
- 53:50Speaker 2: live TV hit at the same time. Then we hear
- 53:52Speaker 2: about stories of guys like Adam Schefter. He literally has
- 53:57Speaker 2: a car service for him where he is working in
- 54:00Speaker 2: the car in the passenger seat, on the phone on
- 54:03Speaker 2: Twitter and X and someone else is driving for him.
- 54:07Speaker 2: This is a very, very fascinating industry that we're a
- 54:10Speaker 2: part of, the Fear. Big thank you today, Paniota once again,
- 54:12Speaker 2: all right to our Mailbak segment. Once again, find us
- 54:15Speaker 2: at Twitter and X at Kraken Audio Net, and we
- 54:18Speaker 2: get to one here from Claude saying, is Jamie Alexiak
- 54:21Speaker 2: showing up as the trade deadline approaches and need more
- 54:25Speaker 2: shots on goal, especially in the third but otherwise good
- 54:28Speaker 2: energy here from last evening, I'll revert back to what
- 54:31Speaker 2: David Panyota told us and where we're learning that the
- 54:35Speaker 2: Kraken aren't actively shopping their UF phase. And I think
- 54:39Speaker 2: if you're able to find what you got from Alexiak
- 54:43Speaker 2: last night on a consistent basis the physicality of his nature.
- 54:48Speaker 2: He's a six foot seven behemoth that is a serious
- 54:53Speaker 2: what we call quote unquote own rental coming up here
- 54:56Speaker 2: for the trade deadline. So what really got the juices
- 54:59Speaker 2: flowing for him? We may not know whether it was
- 55:02Speaker 2: a conversation or something else here, but I mean it
- 55:05Speaker 2: was certainly fascinating as far as the optics us being
- 55:08Speaker 2: four days out here from the trade deadline to see
- 55:11Speaker 2: an eleven hit game and the block shots that he had.
- 55:15Speaker 2: But I mean, assuming that they're gonna stay course, so
- 55:17Speaker 2: all the UFAs, that was some serious, serious light at
- 55:22Speaker 2: the end of the tunnel we saw for what they
- 55:23Speaker 2: could be building up here ahead of trade deadline time.
- 55:26Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm gonna I'm gonna look at this from from
- 55:29Speaker 1: a personal introspective.
- 55:34Speaker 5: Lens.
- 55:34Speaker 1: I think for Jamie Alexiak, it's no secret that he's
- 55:38Speaker 1: been the subject of trade rumors for the last couple
- 55:41Speaker 1: of seasons, and that can be very hard to always
- 55:44Speaker 1: have in the back of your mind that you know,
- 55:47Speaker 1: am I staying?
- 55:48Speaker 5: Am I going? Where am I going?
- 55:50Speaker 1: You know that we forget that players are more than
- 55:53Speaker 1: just numbers and assets, you know what I mean. These
- 55:55Speaker 1: people have These people have people, They have families and
- 55:59Speaker 1: why and kids and all that stuff. So I think,
- 56:03Speaker 1: you know, listening to David Panota and saying that, hey,
- 56:06Speaker 1: you know, we're not gonna get rid of you, We're
- 56:09Speaker 1: going to keep you here. To me, that says, you know,
- 56:12Speaker 1: and again I'm going to speculate, which is the one
- 56:15Speaker 1: thing you're never.
- 56:15Speaker 5: Supposed to do.
- 56:16Speaker 1: But to me, that says that Laine Lamberton or Ron
- 56:20Speaker 1: or Bots or whoever had a conversation I said, listen,
- 56:23Speaker 1: you helped us get here.
- 56:24Speaker 5: You're part of this.
- 56:25Speaker 1: We want you part of this, and that type of
- 56:28Speaker 1: buy in even though he's an unexpiring deal. You never
- 56:31Speaker 1: know what's going to happen in the summertime. But even
- 56:33Speaker 1: though you know you don't have any clarity on your
- 56:37Speaker 1: future past this season, that type of belief, I think
- 56:42Speaker 1: it goes a long way. So you saw last night
- 56:45Speaker 1: again a guy that was given the vote of confidence.
- 56:47Speaker 1: You helped us get here, We want you a part
- 56:50Speaker 1: of this. And you know, Jamie Lexiaks has never been
- 56:54Speaker 1: a guy who will shirk his defensive responsibilities. I think
- 56:59Speaker 1: his size is reached the way that he plays the game.
- 57:02Speaker 1: Never known for being overly physical, but I don't think
- 57:06Speaker 1: he's ever really needed to be, just because of how
- 57:08Speaker 1: well he plays that position. But last night I think
- 57:11Speaker 1: was a really good breath of fresh air. And I
- 57:13Speaker 1: think if Alexi I can play that way throughout the
- 57:16Speaker 1: stretch and in the playoffs, that's the type of player
- 57:19Speaker 1: that can change your fortunes and can change the direction
- 57:24Speaker 1: of a playoff series.
- 57:26Speaker 6: Yeah, I saw a guy that clearly you know, had
- 57:30Speaker 6: been given a spark. Well you know what that spark was.
- 57:33Speaker 6: Where it came from is anybody's guest. That's the speculation part.
- 57:36Speaker 6: But that's a game where Alexi I had more physical
- 57:40Speaker 6: play than I've seen in three years. And my question
- 57:44Speaker 6: is are you going to see it tomorrow night? Are
- 57:47Speaker 6: you going to see it in the game after that?
- 57:48Speaker 6: He doesn't have to be eleven hits, but if he's
- 57:51Speaker 6: getting four to seven hits every game going forward, that's
- 57:55Speaker 6: a different level to his game.
- 57:56Speaker 4: And I hope he does.
- 57:57Speaker 6: I really hope he does, because he's a bigger threat,
- 58:02Speaker 6: no pun intended, when he's playing that way.
- 58:04Speaker 2: It would not surprise me to see, you know, just
- 58:06Speaker 2: like for the Crack and other teams kind of go
- 58:08Speaker 2: through this whole process of having their own rentals, meeting
- 58:12Speaker 2: UFAs about the contracts dry up and we'll see how
- 58:16Speaker 2: long it takes until which ones are extended here. But
- 58:20Speaker 2: I mean, my goodness, if you can maybe split the
- 58:22Speaker 2: difference with what Alexiak gave and dial it back to
- 58:25Speaker 2: twenty twenty three playoff Jamie Alexiak, that is a serious
- 58:29Speaker 2: physical upgrade for the blue line that you need to
- 58:33Speaker 2: really put a scare into teams coming up here for
- 58:36Speaker 2: playoff time. Time to get to our three stars, zeal Kiniski,
- 58:39Speaker 2: why don't you take it away here? Go ahead?
- 58:41Speaker 6: Yeah, First of all, I gotta start with the defensive
- 58:44Speaker 6: side of the line. I thought Adam Larson has had
- 58:46Speaker 6: a good couple of games, and I'm basing this off
- 58:49Speaker 6: of the two wins, not the two losses coming out
- 58:51Speaker 6: of the break. He's had two assists and two hits
- 58:53Speaker 6: in that time, and he's always consistently a backstop for
- 58:57Speaker 6: this team. So he's my third star, my second star.
- 59:00Speaker 6: You know, we've talked a little bit on this about
- 59:02Speaker 6: Chandler Stevenson. He had a goal and two assists in
- 59:04Speaker 6: those games. He was plus due. But I want to
- 59:06Speaker 6: point out a couple of stats that Fitz and I
- 59:08Speaker 6: talked about on the broadcast last night going into the
- 59:10Speaker 6: game last night, he was second on the team and
- 59:12Speaker 6: shooting percentage. After the game, he's taking the number one spot.
- 59:16Speaker 6: So he is the sharpest shooter on the team right
- 59:19Speaker 6: now at eighteen point nine percent. That's better than Jared McCann.
- 59:23Speaker 6: That's better than Jordan Eberley. So when we're talking about
- 59:26Speaker 6: Chandler Stevenson, keep that in mind.
- 59:28Speaker 4: His best.
- 59:28Speaker 6: He's also your best face off man at fifty two
- 59:30Speaker 6: point two percent as well. That continues game in and
- 59:34Speaker 6: game out. So he's my second star. My first star
- 59:37Speaker 6: is going to go to the captain, Jordan Eberley. Almost
- 59:40Speaker 6: a hat trick, a sort of hat trick, a two goals,
- 59:44Speaker 6: one assists. You know, that was against Vancouver. I felt
- 59:48Speaker 6: bad for him because you know, those those opportunities don't
- 59:52Speaker 6: come around very often. And let's be honest, he's in
- 59:54Speaker 6: the latter half of his career. You don't know when
- 59:56Speaker 6: your next hat trick's going to come. That might have
- 59:58Speaker 6: been the last one. Who knows.
- 1:00:00Speaker 4: I hope it's not. But he's my number one star.
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: Ever, go ahead, and those are all great.
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: You know, I wrestled with this because you had two
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: clunkers and you had two really good games. I think
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: I'm gonna go my third star overall this week. I'm
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: gonna go Copocaco. I think you get the goal for
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: him in Saint Louis. He scores again last night, and
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: I the way that he's played out of this Olympic break,
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: you know, he hasn't skipped a beat. It can be
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: easy for a guy who's played extra hockey, didn't have
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: any time off to need that break, and he did
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: sit in that first game out against Dallas. But you
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: know when he comes back in St. Louis, immediately gets
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: the crack and almost scoreboard. He had a really good
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: game I thought against Vancouver last night although he was left.
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: He had a goal last night as well, plus one.
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: So I think the way that that he's played out
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: of the break overall has been good. I think Number
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: two for me is Jordan Eberlee for what Al said,
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: you know, the hat trick that wasn't but he's continuing here.
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: You know, second best offensive start to his season of
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: his career. This is now the second fastest he's ever
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: gotten to this goal mark through fifty games for him,
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: so you know, fifty plus games, he's got more goals
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: now than he's ever had except for one season, and
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: he's continuing to find that fountain of youth and leading
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: this team by example. And I'm gonna give my number
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: one started Chandler Stevenson. I think I said it before
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: in the beginning. He gets I think way too much
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: flack for the the underlying numbers, And anyone who watches
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: this team on a consistent basis will tell you there's
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: a reason why he takes most, if not all, of
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: your defensive draws. There's a reason why he is one
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: of your best skaters. It looks so effortless that people
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: want to call him lazy. He's not lazy. He's just
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: that good of a skater that it looks so effortless.
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: And sure, his shot quality volume per whatever is it
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: as high as you'll want it to be. But he's
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: got the second highest shooting percentage on this team. He
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: had a two point three point night the other night,
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: and even though he snapped an eight game goals rout
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: or eleven game goal drout the other day, he still
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: has got ten points his last twelve game. So I
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: think Chandler Stevenson for me, has been one of the
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: best players for the crack in this season. Watch him play.
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: Look at the eye test, you'll see it there. That's
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: my number one star for the week.
- 1:02:41Speaker 2: For my three stars, it begins with a couple of
- 1:02:43Speaker 2: names here that and fit into this picture where it
- 1:02:46Speaker 2: takes a lot to end a team like the Carolina
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: Hurricanes has run of ten to zero and two finally
- 1:02:52Speaker 2: snapped in last night's game. My third star goes to
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: Jamie Alexiak, who had the obvious numbers eleven hits well
- 1:03:01Speaker 2: last night in the game, putting his body on the
- 1:03:03Speaker 2: line three block shots. I said this earlier quintessential vintage
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: twenty twenty three playoffs, Jamie Alexiak, if they can get
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: that kind of presence out of him, may be a
- 1:03:16Speaker 2: little bit I think split in the difference, they're going
- 1:03:19Speaker 2: to be in really good shape. In my goodness, what
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: a formidable deep pair you've got now between him and
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: Brandon Montour as well. Plus also you think the value
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: that he's got for the penalty kill or we mentioned
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: last night in finding a way to shut it down
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: against Carolina. Look at the top guys that were deployed
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: by Lane Lambert to close out that two to one win,
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: among them Stevenson Goodreau, Larsen, ben Myers, and Jamie Alexiak,
- 1:03:50Speaker 2: who was on the ice to close out Game seven
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: against Colorado Beck in twenty twenty three. Jamie Alexiak, he
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: showed the kind of game that you'd need from a
- 1:03:59Speaker 2: run good and physical approach to win games at this
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: time of year. He's my third star. My second star
- 1:04:05Speaker 2: goes to Jordan Everly for what he did back this
- 1:04:09Speaker 2: last weekend against Vancouver. Nearly had a hat trick, but
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: his play with Maddy Beneer's electrifying and depending upon if
- 1:04:17Speaker 2: they add somebody here by trade deadline time, the attention
- 1:04:20Speaker 2: will focus I think on him Veniers as well, Jared McCann.
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: Can that line show up in key moments and in
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: key games as well against the Canucks. Yes, I know,
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: worst team in the NHL, You're not going to find
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: someone I think that consistently who's a lop set of
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: bet here to beat in this tretch drive. But I
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: think just for the fact where they had to get
- 1:04:44Speaker 2: a win to get back on the tracks, that top
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: line came through. One of these days, Emily's going to
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: have a hat trick and Jordan every Yet is my
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: second star of this past week. My first Star goes
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: to Joey Decord showing up in big games. Had to
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: get a win against vancou and against Carolina, a big
- 1:05:02Speaker 2: hill to climb, thirty six save effort. He was phenomenal
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: turning in key saved down the stretch as well. Him
- 1:05:10Speaker 2: plus Philip Grewbauer. If you can find again that consistent
- 1:05:14Speaker 2: or that a consistency between them in these games coming
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: up in March and April, that is a big, big
- 1:05:22Speaker 2: piece of the sauce for the Laine Lambert recipe that
- 1:05:25Speaker 2: you need to win games and get into the Stanley
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: Cup playoffs. The Cords showed up when it mattered big
- 1:05:31Speaker 2: time last night against Carolina. He's my first star, all right,
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: gotta run big. Thank you once again to David Paniota.
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: We'll talk to you once again very soon tomorrow night,
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: by the way, against Saint Louis on air six point thirty,
- 1:05:43Speaker 2: face up, little past seven o'clock. Big thanks to Everett
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: Now and a David Panyota and for cracking weekly. I
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: might bet and see it
