Latest / Banter with the Boys / Dramatic Canadian Grand Prix Recap - Fast Laps with the Boys - F1 2024 - Spain Preview
Transcript
- 0:00Yo, welcome back to Banter with the Boys Fast Laps.
- 0:19I know it's been a minute.
- 0:20We went back to our original plan of recapping the race a good week after that's happened.
- 0:27So of course we're going to talk about the Canadian Grand Prix and the Spanish Grand
- 0:32Prix coming up.
- 0:33So let's just get right into it here.
- 0:37Obviously Joe right next to me as always our co-host.
- 0:39Joe, what's going on?
- 0:41Happy to be here.
- 0:42Three weeks is way too long.
- 0:43It felt extremely long.
- 0:45It felt extremely long, especially after a race like that and a race coming up, which
- 0:47is going to hopefully be equally as fun.
- 0:49Yeah, three weeks is way too long.
- 0:51Really happy to be back here.
- 0:52For sure, for sure.
- 0:53And next to him, obviously we got Cole, Cole Hauser Week, man.
- 0:56Good, good.
- 0:57Looks like we're going to get storms today.
- 0:58So on suit for Tuesday.
- 0:59That is cool.
- 1:00Yeah, has to be that way.
- 1:02And I was saying this yesterday when we were all chatting, but this was like the first
- 1:05race where I was pretty locked in the entire time.
- 1:08It was a very fun race.
- 1:09I'm excited to get into it.
- 1:10I'm really disappointed.
- 1:11I missed a good chunk of this race.
- 1:12I was not locked in, but we still we still know what went on.
- 1:16Tyler, what's going on?
- 1:17Not much, man.
- 1:18Just typical Tuesday storms.
- 1:20Hopefully we actually get a good one.
- 1:22Typical Tuesday storms, hoping for a tree to fall, according to him.
- 1:25Yeah, just take out just clip the top out the top portion of the house and take out
- 1:28the garage.
- 1:29That's it.
- 1:30That's all you're asking for.
- 1:31We need not a big deal.
- 1:32That's it.
- 1:33That's it.
- 1:34Let's just head right into quality for Canada real quick.
- 1:37We don't need to touch on it that much.
- 1:39It was a little bit different.
- 1:40Did anybody actually catch quality like live or actually watch the whole duration of it?
- 1:44Yep.
- 1:45Joe, you did.
- 1:46Yeah, I tried.
- 1:47I always try to at least watch quality in the race whenever weekends coming up.
- 1:49For sure.
- 1:50What was you could take away one thing from quality?
- 1:52Since this specific race, what did you see that impressed you?
- 1:57I mean, there are check going out in Q1.
- 1:59It's like it's surprising, but also it's starting to become not surprising, which is not great
- 2:04considering he just got that contract extension.
- 2:07I guess the other really big thing to call out for qualifying, we're actually two things
- 2:12to call out, three things to call out.
- 2:14Ferrari's out in Q2, both V carbs in Q3.
- 2:19And finally, George and Max with the exact same time at the end of Q3.
- 2:23I think that this is the first time in like, it was either like 40 years maybe.
- 2:28I could be wrong, but it's been a while.
- 2:30It was the late 90s.
- 2:31It actually happened at Canada.
- 2:32Oh, okay.
- 2:33Oh, it did really?
- 2:34Yeah, it was three people had the same time.
- 2:37Wow.
- 2:38That's crazy.
- 2:39So not 40 years, but about half of that.
- 2:40Yeah.
- 2:41So very, very interesting quality.
- 2:42It was a fun watch.
- 2:43And then the race just kind of, yeah, it followed suit.
- 2:45It was maybe not like how I would want the race to end, but it was still a really good
- 2:50race to watch.
- 2:51Probably the best this year so far in my opinion.
- 2:53Yeah.
- 2:54The one other call out in Quali is Danny Rick putting up a five spot in Quali was not expected.
- 3:00If you're thinking a V carb is going to be up there, it'd be Yuki.
- 3:02But he answered that one dude whose name is blank in me's criticism.
- 3:06Yeah.
- 3:07It was Jacques Villeneuve.
- 3:08Yeah.
- 3:09The guy who was like the tracks named after.
- 3:11Either the son or the father.
- 3:13Yeah.
- 3:14Wait, wait, what did he say?
- 3:15He was like before the race, he was just saying like this guy should not be in a car basically.
- 3:19Yeah.
- 3:20He was like pretty much watched.
- 3:21He was like, there's no reason this guy's in a car.
- 3:23It was right before Quali.
- 3:24It was like a part of like the Sky Sports broadcast.
- 3:26So then he qualies P5 and then finishes in points.
- 3:30Yeah.
- 3:31Yeah.
- 3:32And he made his remarks known because he was asked that question after I think either
- 3:36qualifying or the race.
- 3:37And he's like, well, here I am, you know, qualifying fifth, super close to first.
- 3:42Like he's a little bit explicit, I think.
- 3:45I might be wrong, but didn't Danny Rick said that there was like a few times like this
- 3:48guy's been consistently hating on him, right?
- 3:50Oh, really?
- 3:51He said he's always been a hater and he can lick his.
- 3:53Ah, word.
- 3:54Word.
- 3:55Nice.
- 3:56Things and stuff, things and stuff.
- 3:59Yeah, no, for sure.
- 4:02Right off the bat in the GP, obviously for Sap and getting the dub.
- 4:07But he had a little, I mean, it was a little bit of hiccups early on, but he got it figured
- 4:11out.
- 4:12I thought for sure that the box by who was it Lando?
- 4:15I thought for sure maybe they had time timed that up appropriately.
- 4:19And then he got loose coming out and you could tell he wasn't going to make it.
- 4:23But if he would have made it out, do you think Lando could have held for Sap and off this
- 4:27race?
- 4:28Not on those tires.
- 4:29That first lap probably got him.
- 4:30I mean, it would have been a prey to just keep up and keep the DRS.
- 4:34If he stayed in the DRS after that lap.
- 4:36Yeah, I think he was just really is a faster car.
- 4:39I mean, you saw earlier on the race.
- 4:41He went up by like 12 seconds, I think.
- 4:43Lando?
- 4:44Yeah, I don't remember the exact time.
- 4:45It was a good show.
- 4:46But clearly it was the quickest car on the track.
- 4:48Right before, right before the safety car, he was building a good amount of time on Max
- 4:51for sure.
- 4:52He was Max for Sap.
- 4:54He was Max for Sap at the beginning of the season.
- 4:56That's how much of a gap.
- 4:57It was just unreal.
- 4:58Yeah.
- 4:59Do you guys know when you box, do they keep those, the next set of tires or whatever,
- 5:04do they heat those up as well or keep those at a certain temp?
- 5:07You know?
- 5:08Yeah, almost all the tires that are like.
- 5:09Oh, are they?
- 5:10Are they under warmers?
- 5:11You only do so much though, really.
- 5:13Well, right, because that's what, you know, I think the commentators may have even mentioned,
- 5:16I can't even remember.
- 5:17But when Lando was coming out and he, you know, broke loose a little bit, obviously,
- 5:21he was just trying to push it probably more than he should to try to get out in front
- 5:24of Max.
- 5:25But is that maybe an issue where the tires just obviously didn't have an opportunity
- 5:28to actually get warmed up enough?
- 5:30I think the pit lane was just still super wet compared to the rest of the track and
- 5:34the exit was super, super wet.
- 5:36So like we saw Lando, like you said, kind of fishtail a little bit and Max went right
- 5:39past him.
- 5:40That was just a case of he's on slicks driving on like a wet portion of the track.
- 5:46It's going to be a tough and also his tires aren't warmed up.
- 5:49So even if it was a dry track, he would have had to fight Max at least a little bit.
- 5:53But yeah, that is that wet track definitely gave it to Max.
- 5:55I think it was entirely.
- 5:56It was just it was just wet.
- 5:58But because he was 20 seconds ahead going into the end.
- 6:02Yeah, because because Max had hit it.
- 6:05But do you think so?
- 6:06The curious thing I thought was, do you think he waited?
- 6:08I thought I felt like he waited too long.
- 6:11I think he shouldn't have done that next lap.
- 6:12He should just pitted and then came out.
- 6:15Yeah, I think he did one to one lap too many.
- 6:18Yeah, it was the opposite of what happened to Verstappen in Miami.
- 6:22You know, it was like but it was it wasn't that like he pitted too late.
- 6:25It was like they when he got past the pit exit, they hadn't actually called the virtual
- 6:31safety car yet or the actual safety car.
- 6:33It was still virtual.
- 6:34So he was just trying to hit lap delta.
- 6:36And if they wouldn't have if they if they would have called it just a second earlier,
- 6:39they would have put him in.
- 6:40But those are you're talking about two different times, though, because you're talking about
- 6:44in the initial where you got caught behind and you got caught behind the safety car and
- 6:46couldn't.
- 6:47I'm talking his second pit.
- 6:49I mean, in the second one, it was the second one.
- 6:52He was on the Elbon crashed.
- 6:53But the second one, he was on the enters and just trying to gain speed.
- 6:56And then he did another lap.
- 6:58And then because he went out lap longer and pitted.
- 7:00Right.
- 7:01Yeah, that was so that to go to the mediums.
- 7:03Yeah, that was when he spun on the on the track.
- 7:07I got you.
- 7:08I got you.
- 7:09That's and that was and that was after the initial safety car where Lando missed the
- 7:11pit and then got yeah and then got screwed over in the same thing in Miami.
- 7:15But yeah, he was I mean, he was back in first because of the because he's putting out crazy
- 7:19laps on the enters to where he might have had a chance to still come out in first and head
- 7:23of Max.
- 7:24But like they had him go another lap and the track was so dry.
- 7:26Just didn't make any sense.
- 7:27He was trying to go for an overcut and hopefully.
- 7:29And I think what they were really hoping was what happened to him after coming out of the
- 7:32pits is that it would take longer for them to warm up and maybe he would get some sort
- 7:36of advantage.
- 7:37But yeah, it didn't work out that way for sure.
- 7:40Well, we'll touch back on Lando and Piastra here in a second.
- 7:43But staying with Red Bull, obviously, I know I have not much to say about Max this race,
- 7:48you know, typical stuff.
- 7:49But what about Sergio?
- 7:52Again, going back to your point that you've already mentioned about the quality of him
- 7:57signing that new deal.
- 7:59And then, you know, not only did he, you know, smash his vehicle up, but he's now received
- 8:07a three grid penalty for next race.
- 8:09You said typical stuff from Max.
- 8:10Can we not start saying this is typical stuff from Czechos?
- 8:13100 percent.
- 8:14I mean, at this point, 100 percent.
- 8:16I think you can, which again is awkward to talk about after the extension.
- 8:21I'll stay quoted on this.
- 8:22I think in the beginning, I think episode one or two that we released from the season,
- 8:25I said that he will not be in the top five.
- 8:29I think I do remember you saying that.
- 8:31I can't remember what episode it was.
- 8:33You will not finish in the driver's standing.
- 8:34Yeah, he will not finish in the top five.
- 8:35And I think that's even more the way it's going.
- 8:37You might not be wrong.
- 8:39He's always struggled in Canada.
- 8:41It's like his worst track on the grid.
- 8:43But just like over the last couple races, too, like I get this race kind of really sucked
- 8:46for him.
- 8:47But the last couple races, now you're giving him a three grid penalty that probably puts
- 8:50him out of the top 10 based on how he's performing.
- 8:53I just I don't know, it's going to take another race car at Spain, though.
- 8:57He might be able to at least.
- 8:59But I mean, even even like you were saying, he only has three street races left.
- 9:02Is that correct?
- 9:03I think you said I think there's more than three.
- 9:06I'd have to look at the other three.
- 9:08But like, let's say even if there's three.
- 9:11Something's got to click, something's got to build momentum, something's got to build
- 9:13confidence in him again.
- 9:15Is it the next street track and how long until that actually how long until that next one
- 9:19is?
- 9:20It's not the next three races.
- 9:21I know that.
- 9:22But with with Checos will accident.
- 9:27Was it the team orders to have him try to bring the car back?
- 9:29OK, so we were trying to they were trying to prevent a safety car.
- 9:32100 percent.
- 9:33100 percent.
- 9:34So you can't fault them for that.
- 9:35No, the three place grid penalty.
- 9:36That's not Red Bull.
- 9:37That's not on Checo.
- 9:38No, 100 percent.
- 9:39You know, stuff falling off.
- 9:40Put himself in a place where his car was banged up, where he had to pit.
- 9:43Of course.
- 9:44I mean, you're fighting for he was trying to fight for 17th.
- 9:47And what are you doing?
- 9:49He spun and went backwards into the wall.
- 9:50Right.
- 9:51Yeah.
- 9:52Yeah.
- 9:53So, I mean, honestly, not much else to talk about Checo other than I guess.
- 9:58You know, we'll see what he does in Spain.
- 10:00I mean, he's got to have a bounce back bounce back race at a track that Red Bulls can do
- 10:05very well at, I would imagine.
- 10:09He kind of needs it personally.
- 10:10You say he's going to do pretty well.
- 10:11We'll talk about that later.
- 10:12Well, and we'll just roll right into it.
- 10:15The Mercedes this weekend.
- 10:16Did they have any upgrades coming into this race that we know of?
- 10:20Like not that I know.
- 10:21It's like huge life changing.
- 10:23They had them coming into Monaco, actually.
- 10:24Sure.
- 10:25So they had the upgrades going into Monaco.
- 10:26But Monaco is like I said, it's a time trial.
- 10:28It's how you qualify.
- 10:29So they didn't get the qualifying so they couldn't actually show the cars like potential
- 10:32and performance.
- 10:34When we were chatting to you were saying that the upgrades are more for the fast corners,
- 10:39correct?
- 10:40Yeah, they were more for the high speed corners.
- 10:42Because that's where the Mercedes downfall the last two, maybe even three years is high
- 10:45speed corners.
- 10:46They just cannot perform at the high speed corners of all the other cars.
- 10:49Well, the top cars on the grid.
- 10:51Or McLaren's been amazing the last couple of years.
- 10:53Even Aston.
- 10:54Aston's been substantially better than Mercedes in the high speed corners every year the last
- 10:58two years.
- 10:59It's been it's insane, actually.
- 11:00I mean, they had something else this weekend or this at least in this race.
- 11:04It seemed a little better.
- 11:05Not a lot of high speed corners.
- 11:06It's not as high speed.
- 11:07It's not a lot of high speed corners.
- 11:09That's the thing about Canada.
- 11:10It's really like there's the DRS zone.
- 11:13So there's a lot of potential for overtaking.
- 11:15But like high speed corners and even, you know, with the with it being wet pretty much
- 11:19half the race, you didn't get the even see the full potential of what that car can do.
- 11:23For sure.
- 11:24You're talking about the Mercedes, right?
- 11:25Yeah.
- 11:26If the race was dry, does Mercedes still finish where they did?
- 11:29I mean, it's hard to say, right?
- 11:31I mean, we can go and throw these things.
- 11:33I think so.
- 11:34I was I was surprised with how much of a fight it was for Hamilton against Alonso for as
- 11:39long as it was.
- 11:40Yes.
- 11:41How good Russell looked in that car.
- 11:43That surprised me.
- 11:44Well, and Hamilton came out and said after the race that this was his worst race he's
- 11:48ever raced.
- 11:49And then he was racing Canada.
- 11:51Where's well, what was it?
- 11:53One of the I'm sorry, not ever race.
- 11:55One of the worst races I've driven is what he said.
- 11:58Because he's still pretty good.
- 12:01I know.
- 12:02He had pace.
- 12:03Obviously finishing before still pretty solid.
- 12:06And he had the he had the fastest lap, didn't he?
- 12:08He did.
- 12:09That sounds right.
- 12:10Yeah.
- 12:11Him and George are going back and forth.
- 12:12Yeah.
- 12:13With the fastest lap.
- 12:14He was just disappointed because he knew they had the opportunity to win the race, which
- 12:17you know, Max still drove away with it to a point, but it's still not that gap that
- 12:21we're used to seeing this season.
- 12:23But I mean, it was fun to watch George and Landau just battle it out.
- 12:28It was fun.
- 12:30It's fun and also sad to see them do so well.
- 12:34Pretty much their first race of the year.
- 12:36They've done really well.
- 12:37And both of the drivers be pretty disappointed with third and fourth.
- 12:41Because I mean, you know, Russell got pulled, but he was also you could see it in his face
- 12:44like in the cool down room and on the like before the podium, you know, he just he couldn't
- 12:49keep up with Max and Landau a little bit.
- 12:51Or maybe the strategy just wasn't right for the time.
- 12:53I don't even think there's a strategy thing.
- 12:55He owned that about the terms.
- 12:56Because he led a good amount of the first like portion of that race.
- 13:00Well, he also he also said after the fact he was like there's two or three times where
- 13:03I messed up in corners and I cost myself that race.
- 13:06Yeah.
- 13:07That's why he was more upset.
- 13:08Definitely had.
- 13:09And he got called to the stewards after the race and they just called it a race against
- 13:11it.
- 13:12And I think as it should have been the very last corner of the race.
- 13:14Yeah.
- 13:15No, but I mean, that's how he lost P2.
- 13:18Was that that slip up there allowed Landau to get through and then you're not going to
- 13:21catch him once he's by.
- 13:22Right.
- 13:23Right.
- 13:24No, I just lost my train of thought.
- 13:26No.
- 13:27But yeah.
- 13:28And then at the end, it's tough with Hamilton on the hards to like obviously Russell's going
- 13:33to get back by him, which is kind of tough because Hamilton, you know, like we just said,
- 13:37Hamilton did have did have good pace.
- 13:38It would have been interesting to see if he had a better tire to try to catch up to Landau.
- 13:42Yeah.
- 13:43I was really surprised that they they switched them because like George had the hards went
- 13:47to mediums.
- 13:48Lewis had the mediums went to hards.
- 13:50I figured they would throw a new set of mediums on on Lewis.
- 13:54I feel like that's always what Mercedes does, though.
- 13:55They always switch.
- 13:56Yeah.
- 13:57It's like they're throwing all their money at one at this point of the season with how
- 14:02low you are on points.
- 14:03You need to throw all of them in both.
- 14:04Yeah.
- 14:05Yeah.
- 14:06That's a good point.
- 14:07100 percent.
- 14:08What?
- 14:09Why is that?
- 14:10Why do you think they're just trying to test different things all the time, different
- 14:11strategies all the time, or is it like tailored to each driver specifically?
- 14:16I think it's like as far as tire management, to be completely honest, I think it's entirely
- 14:20based on where they they finish at in the qualifying.
- 14:23I think that's where they're basing it off of and what they're thinking of.
- 14:27But either way, I don't think.
- 14:29Like, it just I don't know, it just makes more sense to go hard.
- 14:32I don't know what because of being wet, being that race, I feel like they had to kind of
- 14:36bank on and we'll talk about Haas here, obviously in a second.
- 14:39So I have some things to say, but I feel like they should have been banking more almost
- 14:43on the carnage, if you will.
- 14:45Right.
- 14:46And it might have been it might have been like a tire limitation that they didn't have
- 14:50a new set of mediums for Lewis because Lewis was on the mediums.
- 14:53Like you only have a certain allocation and if he uses meant X amount in like practice
- 14:57and qualifying, you could always throw on a huge set.
- 15:01But you know, you're better off with a new set of hearts than a used set of mediums.
- 15:03Well, yeah, but I would think so.
- 15:05Yeah, I hear that.
- 15:06But they could have switched that.
- 15:07Well, he already did.
- 15:08Because he had started with the Inners and went to the mediums.
- 15:12But I think what I'm talking more so about is the going from medium to hard to hard to
- 15:17medium.
- 15:18Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 15:19You would think that and I think when they did that, they were trying to gauge what the
- 15:23better tire is to get about that at that point because it was the first slick they put on
- 15:26after the Inners.
- 15:27Oh, so you're just saying that it would make sense to go back with another medium.
- 15:30Right.
- 15:31OK, OK, OK, gotcha.
- 15:32I mean, all in all, great showing from from Mercedes, something that I know I didn't expect
- 15:37to see this weekend and obviously our podium predictions.
- 15:41I don't think anybody had a Merc in there.
- 15:43No, why would you?
- 15:44Why would you?
- 15:45That'd be a good bet to win though if you had you placed a little if you would have
- 15:51placed Russell on the podium.
- 15:53Yeah, I wouldn't have made that bet.
- 15:55Only a true Mercedes fan would.
- 15:58Right, right.
- 15:59It was probably Lewis.
- 16:00It was probably Lewis.
- 16:03Since we touched on Lando and Russell, let's just head right into McLaren real quick just
- 16:07to bring them up again.
- 16:10Obviously Lando being pretty disappointed with with the second place.
- 16:14But I mean, all in all, another great drive from Lando, another consistent drive from
- 16:19Lando.
- 16:20I don't know.
- 16:22I'm not trying to compare because obviously two different cars, two different drivers,
- 16:24but he's starting to show us like kind of what Charles was showing us a couple of years
- 16:28back just with the consistency.
- 16:31You know, he's starting to get more consistent podiums.
- 16:33He's a mainstay on the podium.
- 16:35I'm here for it.
- 16:36So I think this switch, the both sides, kind of like we talked about last episode, I think
- 16:41this again shows.
- 16:45What's his name?
- 16:46Piastri.
- 16:47This kind of does show like his experience a little bit.
- 16:50Right.
- 16:51This is more and more showing his experience coming through in these later races where,
- 16:55you know, there's so much battling and so much carnage going on.
- 16:58Right.
- 16:59But as far as Norris, this is why people love Norris, I think.
- 17:02Like afterwards, he was like, I got me in Miami.
- 17:04You know, I got him in Miami.
- 17:05You just make, you know, it's fair.
- 17:07All is fair.
- 17:08It's just I think this is why people love Norris.
- 17:09He's just he's so fun to watch.
- 17:11He's he's he's one of those guys that just impossible to hate.
- 17:13He's super straight with it, too.
- 17:14If he's if he's at a bad day, he'll tell you like, yeah, it was a bad day.
- 17:18We're not where we should be.
- 17:20But knowing that he says that, like he's he's straight with us and hearing him say, like
- 17:25the car's performing well, though, so we can fight for it.
- 17:28That's super promising for future races.
- 17:30Right.
- 17:31And he's like he actually said, like, I look forward to every track because it seems like
- 17:34we're performing like that's not something that was said earlier in the definitely not
- 17:37definitely not.
- 17:38And back to whoever said, you know, he's been super consistent.
- 17:41He's the last person on the grid to have a point in every single race this year.
- 17:45Who's the other Charles?
- 17:46No, he's the last one.
- 17:49Charles hadn't finished outside of top four going into this race.
- 17:52Yep.
- 17:53Well, wow.
- 17:55With that, I mean, Oscar finishing fifth, I don't I don't want to like down credit Oscar,
- 18:00but just to keep things moving.
- 18:01Obviously, finishing P five, another great drive for McLaren as a whole.
- 18:07But we'll just go right into the Ferraris and Charles missing points and signs doing
- 18:12whatever.
- 18:13I can't remember who is involved with the sign saying if it was Albon or whatever.
- 18:17But what the hell happened to Ferrari this in Canada?
- 18:23Like I don't it's it's a replay for Leclerc, right?
- 18:26The engine failures was it?
- 18:27It was engine failures.
- 18:29But like he qualified P11.
- 18:31No, but yeah, but they were saying that he was losing half a second a lap.
- 18:35That was in the race.
- 18:36Yeah, for 20 laps.
- 18:37I was in I get I get the qualifying, but even in the race, like being in the Ferrari, he's
- 18:40climbing.
- 18:41He's not finishing out of the top 10 if he's not losing that much.
- 18:44He was in P10 when the engine started going like he was only able to gain one spot.
- 18:49The Ferrari is just they did not look like they had any pace.
- 18:52Where did Carlos quality?
- 18:53You remember off the top of your head?
- 18:54I can check real quick.
- 18:55But it was 1112.
- 18:561112.
- 18:57Gosh.
- 18:58And I mean, they were two they were two tenths of a second off that Q2 pace to to get into
- 19:04the break to top 10.
- 19:05It wasn't even like they were like close.
- 19:08When did that switch flip?
- 19:10You know what I mean?
- 19:11I think I think we're just looking too much into it.
- 19:13I think they're fine next race.
- 19:14I think it's I do too.
- 19:15I do too.
- 19:16I'm probably still putting Charles on my podium, actually.
- 19:18Yeah, which seems wild after this race.
- 19:20But I mean, he didn't qualify well.
- 19:24But for the most part, it was a car issue for Charles.
- 19:26Yeah.
- 19:27And with it being wet, the first, what, 30 laps of the race, 40 laps of the race or whatever,
- 19:31things are just going to be different.
- 19:32I mean, almost unpredictable for lack of better terms.
- 19:35You know what I mean?
- 19:36The first like 10 to 15 were just so pure.
- 19:40Just wild.
- 19:41I mean, we saw a K-Meg.
- 19:43I mean, we'll get we'll get into just just wildness.
- 19:46But yeah, I mean, I guess I don't really have anything else to say about the Ferraris.
- 19:49The only note I literally put in there, as you guys saw, just says yikes.
- 19:53It's just a bad race.
- 19:55You know, probably one that they can just wash their hands of and hope for the best
- 19:58next week.
- 19:59But it's it's another like.
- 20:02It is just kind of like whatever.
- 20:03I think we're back to normal business next week for Ferrari.
- 20:06But as far as like the points and we're stepping taking first, that's huge.
- 20:10And then like actually inching up to Red Bull.
- 20:13Ferrari?
- 20:14Yeah, for the constructors.
- 20:15Yeah, for sure.
- 20:16It's such a big jump now.
- 20:17For sure.
- 20:18When they're slowly starting to tighten that gap and you have a check out of the top 10
- 20:23again.
- 20:24It's like, OK, now we can make it closer or something.
- 20:27It sucks.
- 20:28I hate to see it.
- 20:29I don't want Red Bull to win the constructors.
- 20:30Even if they were to move up to like a six, seven in that race, right.
- 20:32It narrows that margin that they broke away from.
- 20:36Give them a couple of points.
- 20:37Yeah.
- 20:38How far back?
- 20:39I know we're not doing a full, you know, update on constructors.
- 20:43How far back is McLaren at this point from Ferrari?
- 20:46Still a good chunk, I'd imagine.
- 20:48Forty points.
- 20:49Forty points.
- 20:50OK.
- 20:51And how far is Ferrari from Red Bull?
- 20:53Forty nine.
- 20:54Forty nine.
- 20:55I mean, that feels weird.
- 20:56I mean, that's closer than we're used to seeing at this point.
- 21:00You got to think about it.
- 21:01It would have.
- 21:02It could have been a lot closer to the 24 if it wasn't for the 25 was zero.
- 21:04100 percent.
- 21:05You know, it's crazy.
- 21:06100 percent.
- 21:07Even if they just were to knock 10 points, it's 32.
- 21:09It's 39 points.
- 21:10That just seems so much better than 49.
- 21:12So much more attainable.
- 21:14Yeah.
- 21:15Just just to see.
- 21:16Just just as a fan that doesn't isn't particular to a team, just to see what what would happen,
- 21:22what changes heading into this week.
- 21:23Probably nothing.
- 21:24You know, everybody's just looking at each race individually.
- 21:26But I don't know.
- 21:27That would have been wild to see.
- 21:29Huge opportunity miss for Ferrari.
- 21:31I. Yeah.
- 21:32At the same time, though, like the way this season is unfolding, I think there's more
- 21:35opportunities if the question is if they can capitalize on them.
- 21:39That's it.
- 21:40That's it.
- 21:41Ferrari, if they can capitalize on opportunities.
- 21:44Aston.
- 21:47Finishing about where we kind of expect them to see, including Stroll.
- 21:50Hit in that top 10, probably a couple of spots up than where we're used to seeing them or
- 21:56where we would expect to see him because of the Ferraris.
- 21:58I see Alonso maybe I know about Stroll.
- 22:01That's I mean, hey, I mean, he's still beat out, you know, nobody.
- 22:06I mean, everybody else, everybody else in that top 10 is also not really.
- 22:10I mean, he beat out exactly.
- 22:11He beat out exactly who he should have beat out.
- 22:14His car is exactly where it should.
- 22:17So not much that we can really say about that.
- 22:21Alonso looked great early fighting with Hamilton.
- 22:23He did.
- 22:24He did.
- 22:25No, he did.
- 22:26And why did it?
- 22:27Why did they track off a little bit?
- 22:28I mean, obviously, that car is not going to keep up.
- 22:30They just don't have the pace.
- 22:31Yeah, they're not.
- 22:32Once it once it dried up, I mean, once it dried up and they're trying mediums and hards,
- 22:35it was kind of.
- 22:36Alonso just let them buy.
- 22:37That's true.
- 22:38The battling was again when it was wet.
- 22:39Yeah.
- 22:40It's just pure unpredictability.
- 22:41If it's pure skill in the rain and just the line.
- 22:44I mean, Alonso is going to be able to fight with you wherever he's at.
- 22:46But first legend, I mean, it was still kind of fun.
- 22:48Yeah, it was entertaining.
- 22:49It's always fun seeing those two go head ahead.
- 22:53But moving right along, Alpine taking advantage of two missing Ferraris in the top 10.
- 22:59That's three big points for that team, man.
- 23:01100 percent.
- 23:02No doubt.
- 23:03I mean, we still saw O'Conn still saw O'Conn cutting the lawn, you know, a couple of times,
- 23:10I think, actually, even went flying over the curb.
- 23:12Yeah, O'Conn's going to O'Conn.
- 23:14Yeah.
- 23:15Yeah.
- 23:16I was actually having like a very heated debate with a friend who I watched these races with.
- 23:21You get heated, Joe?
- 23:22I did.
- 23:23OK, so I get heated in the comfort of my own home on Discord and on the Internet, you know,
- 23:31where I can't see my face.
- 23:33You silly goose.
- 23:36Yeah, exactly.
- 23:37Those words were thrown around.
- 23:38I'm curious.
- 23:41Who do you think is the better driver between the two, Gastly or O'Conn?
- 23:45Got to ride with my boy.
- 23:46Gastly.
- 23:47Got to ride with my boy Gastly.
- 23:48No, no, no.
- 23:49But we're all Gastly fans.
- 23:50I agree.
- 23:51And I unfortunately think that on my end, I agree.
- 23:54I think Gastly is the better driver, but I also think it's because I dislike O'Conn so
- 23:57much.
- 23:58I just don't.
- 23:59I think from a talent perspective, I think Gastly hasn't.
- 24:01I think if O'Conn didn't mess up so much and he wasn't so aggressive, he could.
- 24:06They're probably pretty evenly stacked with each other.
- 24:08I would agree with that, but you have to take that into account.
- 24:11100 percent.
- 24:12That's a part of the talent is not being able to control that.
- 24:14Why do you dislike O'Conn so much?
- 24:17I don't want to make you mad.
- 24:22This conversation is getting too silly.
- 24:24Team Lookers.
- 24:25You know what?
- 24:26I'm going to hop on Discord right now.
- 24:27I think it's just kind of his path.
- 24:31I don't think DTS really painted a great picture of him either, so maybe that's a little bit
- 24:35why too.
- 24:36I don't think DTS painted a great picture of a lot of people.
- 24:38I think Monaco did.
- 24:39They have their favorites.
- 24:40Yeah, 100 percent.
- 24:41They have their favorites.
- 24:42Hey Rick.
- 24:43Lando.
- 24:44Yeah, I just think, yeah.
- 24:47He feuds with every single teammate he has.
- 24:50He didn't get along with Alonso very well.
- 24:56I think he was okay with Ricardo maybe, but I don't really think they...
- 25:00So on that though, do you think he has a seat next year?
- 25:03No.
- 25:04O'Conn?
- 25:05No, he doesn't.
- 25:06We already know he doesn't.
- 25:07Yeah, but do you think he gets picked up?
- 25:08He has a seat in general.
- 25:09No, no.
- 25:10So okay.
- 25:11No?
- 25:12I'm going to...
- 25:13I'm going to bring him up again because there is another part of the argument where I don't
- 25:17think it's going to happen, but it would be a safe bet.
- 25:19But I will bring him up again when we start talking about what seats are left, specifically
- 25:24the Mercedes seat and who their options are.
- 25:27Oh yeah, we'll touch on that a little bit.
- 25:29I'm not saying he deserves it.
- 25:30That's interesting because he's total his boy.
- 25:34That's what I'm thinking.
- 25:35I never even thought about that.
- 25:36Let's talk about that when we get to news, but I'll hold it for a little bit just because
- 25:40we have a lot of seat discussion to talk about this this week for sure.
- 25:44Well, let's just touch on...
- 25:45Sorry to derail by the way.
- 25:46No, that's okay.
- 25:47I'm not going to get mad.
- 25:49Let's just go right into the V...
- 25:50Are you mad at me?
- 25:55Let's just go right into V-Carbs real quick.
- 25:57Obviously, we mentioned Danny Rick into points, kind of doing his best Yuki impersonation
- 26:02with Yuki finishing 14th this week.
- 26:05He had a spin near the close to the end of the race that got him further down or something
- 26:11like that.
- 26:12Yeah, some kind of issue.
- 26:13Yeah, something like that, which...
- 26:15He spun on three laps before the end.
- 26:19Okay, okay.
- 26:20So where was he before the spin?
- 26:22No, I don't know.
- 26:24Was he in points?
- 26:25I wouldn't imagine.
- 26:26Yes, he was.
- 26:27I actually listed he drops from points after going super wide and spinning.
- 26:30What lap is that?
- 26:31I see you have...
- 26:32Lap 66.
- 26:33Ah, dang.
- 26:34Okay, so literally right at the...
- 26:35He was intent, I think.
- 26:36I think there was still one person between him and Rick, Danny.
- 26:40He was definitely still in points and then he dropped.
- 26:42So he almost kept his consistency going, but...
- 26:45So we'll see a little bit of bounce back from Yuki maybe.
- 26:48A little closer action next week or this coming weekend.
- 26:51I think it's going to be a good battle between Stroll and the two V-Carbs going forward.
- 26:55Just in general?
- 26:56I do, I do.
- 26:57I mean, I like what I've seen out of Danny Rick the last...
- 26:59He seems like he's kind of getting back to form.
- 27:01Now, let's see if he continues it.
- 27:03I think the thing with him is the inconsistencies, but...
- 27:05Do you think form is as big of a deal?
- 27:08Obviously getting in form and being in form is used a lot in football, but do you think
- 27:14it...
- 27:15Do you think it matters as well in racing?
- 27:17Just pretty much any level of racing I'd imagine.
- 27:21I think what matters most is the mental form more so than the physical form.
- 27:26Anybody can get into that physical shape.
- 27:27These level of drivers don't get out of that physical shape.
- 27:31So the mental just actually buying into where he's at and showing that he can actually still
- 27:38race and then buying him to himself.
- 27:40You know what?
- 27:41That's why I'm so bad at the game.
- 27:42My mental form is never there.
- 27:45Just can't quite get it.
- 27:47All right, who wanted to talk about Haas?
- 27:50Somebody really wanted to...
- 27:51Whoa, whoa, whoa.
- 27:52Yeah.
- 27:53Take it away.
- 27:54I have something like...
- 27:55It was...
- 27:56I liked the strategy.
- 27:57You're that team, you're down low.
- 27:58I love going on the West to start and just flying through and just racing and just flying
- 28:03by everybody.
- 28:04I mean, he was taking advantage of his opportunities.
- 28:06That was so fun to watch.
- 28:08And he also like...
- 28:09I mean, if you compare him to Hulkenberg, he looked fast compared to Hulkenberg.
- 28:12Just the laps time he was putting out and everything.
- 28:14He was putting in work too.
- 28:16He got up to P9.
- 28:17Just a climb though out of KMAG.
- 28:18It was nothing like KMAG.
- 28:20So here's my issue though.
- 28:23If you're doing that, you're banking on something, right?
- 28:25If you're doing that move as a risky move already, if everybody else then enters, why
- 28:31bail out so soon to get your tires changed to an enter?
- 28:34Why not wait?
- 28:35They had to.
- 28:36They had to.
- 28:37They were...
- 28:38If you're in fourth, at least, I think then at least, if you're in fourth right there,
- 28:40and you wait...
- 28:41At the end of the day, they didn't finish in points.
- 28:46The car wasn't keeping up.
- 28:47If you're in fourth and you wait and just pray for the safety car and then it comes
- 28:51and then you're at sixth or seventh, at least then you're fighting somewhere where it matters.
- 28:56Why not taste that?
- 28:57You're already taking a chance.
- 28:58Why not keep that chance going?
- 28:59But to be the opposite of that then, right?
- 29:02Let's say they go four more laps.
- 29:05KMAG's not holding fourth.
- 29:06He's probably dropping to sixth or seventh and then they're forced to pit because there's
- 29:09nothing left on the tire.
- 29:11They drop to 12th, 13th, 14th when they come out.
- 29:13If they would have had a three second stop, not even a quick stop, just a three second
- 29:17stop, KMAG comes out in eighth place.
- 29:20And then he's on a fresh inner when everybody else is on used inners, he could maybe start
- 29:24to climb again.
- 29:25But they had a what was it?
- 29:26It was like 6.9 or like an eight second stop.
- 29:29That two, three seconds that early in the race, nobody's gained that gap between the
- 29:33drivers to where that matters.
- 29:36I just feel like at that rate you got to commit to it.
- 29:38But I see what you're saying.
- 29:39There's obviously a strategy involved there.
- 29:41If you're going to push it that hard and he succeeded at it, okay, now what?
- 29:45It's like it happened and they were successful with it and then they're like, oh damn, that
- 29:49actually works.
- 29:50So even if he dropped to nine or 10 and they had the safety car come through, he could
- 29:54have got tires ended up in that position.
- 29:56I don't think they were banking on a safety car.
- 29:58I think I think you're putting too much into that, right?
- 30:00I think they were.
- 30:01Go ahead, Joe.
- 30:02Yeah, no, I'm sorry.
- 30:03I think I think you're right.
- 30:04I don't think they were banking in a safety car.
- 30:06I think they were banking on it being wet for much longer and then having the newer
- 30:10inters around everyone else having more use.
- 30:13So when everyone else has to pit, maybe they're they're pitting for for slicks and then they
- 30:17pit at the same time and have that advantage.
- 30:19I wrote, I wrote, Mag made up 10 places and then unfortunately when he did go on to inters,
- 30:25it was just hot strategy and they they you know, they biffed the pit stop.
- 30:29But I definitely see like why not just stay on.
- 30:33Yeah, I totally get that.
- 30:34I totally get it.
- 30:35Especially when you do the move commit.
- 30:36Yeah, commits to the move.
- 30:37But I think I mean, I think they did commit.
- 30:39I think they like strategy wise, it worked exactly like they planned.
- 30:43But didn't they they had Hulkenberg stay out like another six, seven laps.
- 30:46They did have Hulk stay out a bit longer.
- 30:49That's that's correct.
- 30:50No, that's interesting.
- 30:51But then then it's the two different strategies like Merck, like the Mercedes view, you know,
- 30:56maybe two different strategies for him.
- 30:58If you want to be aggressive, use it with the guys and forth.
- 31:01But I don't know why the car to stay there.
- 31:02And it's no no offense to K-Mag.
- 31:04They have the best radars.
- 31:05I get they thought it was going to stay wet longer.
- 31:07Maybe I don't like that.
- 31:08I don't like that argument because they had the radars.
- 31:11They see everything.
- 31:12They had a top tech there.
- 31:15If you're and if you're going to use two different strategies, why?
- 31:17No offense to K-Mag.
- 31:18But why pick K-Mag over Hulkenberg?
- 31:20You know what I mean?
- 31:21Because of where he called it.
- 31:22I started.
- 31:23He started.
- 31:24I think he started.
- 31:25Yeah, he started.
- 31:26He started up there.
- 31:27K-Mag started 14th.
- 31:28P. Nico started 19th.
- 31:30So Nico got up to P nine.
- 31:31He gained 10 spots just like K-Mag did.
- 31:33Just not as pretty.
- 31:36So yeah, why did they?
- 31:37It reminded me the whole time I was thinking that it's you see like the clip that gets
- 31:41run through on Instagram of Kimi in his Lotus years where he started like P 16 and then
- 31:47got up to like P four before like the end of the first lap.
- 31:51It was that clip just kept running through my mind.
- 31:52This came back just going on the complete wet portion of the track and just flying by
- 31:57these guys.
- 31:59Taking outsides of corners around people.
- 32:01I'm just like this guy is insane.
- 32:02I hate it.
- 32:03All of that with.
- 32:04And then it just freaking.
- 32:05I know.
- 32:06And all of that with all those points on his license.
- 32:08He hits one car.
- 32:09He seriously raked it.
- 32:10He hits one car.
- 32:11He's out for a race.
- 32:12I forgot about all that.
- 32:14Yeah.
- 32:15Like the cojones on that guy, man.
- 32:17Is he resigned?
- 32:18No.
- 32:19He's just sending.
- 32:20This is last year.
- 32:21He's sending it.
- 32:22He's told he's not coming back.
- 32:24Bearman's taking that seat as soon as he loses that license.
- 32:30Oh my God.
- 32:33With that, let's roll right into news, Kev.
- 32:43Oh, right back at it.
- 32:44Didn't even see you there.
- 32:45I'm just kidding.
- 32:46That's messed up.
- 32:47Anyway, let's just head right into news.
- 32:49Obviously, FIA adjusts the minimum age for Antonelli.
- 32:54Or is it is it confirmed that they have now changed the age or is it going to?
- 32:58Yeah, they've confirmed now.
- 33:00It's 17.
- 33:02So now that's pretty much his spot locked up in the Mercedes next year, you think, or
- 33:08what?
- 33:09Well, I mean, they didn't need to change it for that.
- 33:10This opens up a way for him to get into F1 and two this year.
- 33:14Yeah, which we're thinking would be for Sargent, I'd imagine.
- 33:17No, just F1 and two.
- 33:19So F1 and two, a couple of races throughout the year, like the reserve drivers actually
- 33:22just go and race in F1.
- 33:23They've been a race, but they get on track.
- 33:25They get some time in the car.
- 33:27Yeah.
- 33:28Do we think he still has could replace Sargent before the end of the year just to get some
- 33:31actual grand prix experience?
- 33:33I think so.
- 33:34Yeah.
- 33:35I mean, what do you got to lose right now for Williams?
- 33:36Soon.
- 33:37Soon.
- 33:38It'll happen soon.
- 33:39Not much.
- 33:40Paying Logan, I assume he is not paid per race.
- 33:42It's a like yearly whatever.
- 33:43I would only imagine.
- 33:45But again, Williams isn't the one foot in the bill.
- 33:48I think it'd probably be after the my guess would be after the the summer break.
- 33:54After the summer break.
- 33:55I would say so, too.
- 33:56It gives Kimmy comes in to make the search.
- 33:57Yeah.
- 33:58I think the next race is the they are allowing or they are doing the reserve drivers because
- 34:02I don't they haven't done it at all this year.
- 34:04I think it's only like two races a year.
- 34:06They tried to do it with Jack Duhan at Alpine, I think in Canada.
- 34:11Yeah, they did it for FP1 with him in Canada, but it was raining the whole practice session
- 34:16so they didn't put him out.
- 34:17So he went out.
- 34:18He went out to do a practice start and then they brought him back in.
- 34:20So we didn't do any running.
- 34:21But so I think they just decide when they do it because last year it was like all of
- 34:25them did it at the same time.
- 34:26Do all teams is it mandated?
- 34:28I think it might be.
- 34:30And then they just choose when they do it.
- 34:31Or can you only can you only do it so many times to you think?
- 34:34Or could you do it every week and they just choose not to?
- 34:36Well, I'm confused here.
- 34:38You only allowed to let the reserve driver drive in two races.
- 34:41No, no, that's what I don't know, because I think last year I think it only happened
- 34:45twice.
- 34:46Oh, I feel like you should be able to let him every race if you wanted to.
- 34:48Yeah, I don't see why there would be anything against that.
- 34:51I mean, you're only penalizing yourself by not giving your driver the experience.
- 34:54Yeah, unless it's Sergeant.
- 34:56But yeah.
- 34:57Well, then you're really penalizing yourself.
- 34:58It's like if it's like Lewis, I could see passing up.
- 35:02But let's be honest, Lewis needs the experience in that car, too.
- 35:06Yeah, to practice sessions, the teams must provide younger drivers each year.
- 35:11They must provide.
- 35:12It was a Google Gemini automated search that could be wrong.
- 35:15But that's just the minimum, though.
- 35:18So it seems like you could do it every race.
- 35:20I think they have to do that.
- 35:21They have to allow these younger drivers to get into the car, at least a practice session
- 35:25or two.
- 35:26So you think they could do it for Alpine then since they tried?
- 35:29I would assume so.
- 35:30No, there's probably no.
- 35:31There probably has to be like, yeah, I would hope so, because that'd be kind of bogus.
- 35:36That'd suck for Jack Doohan.
- 35:38You watching me?
- 35:40That's the other driver.
- 35:41I watched you pull right back off the track.
- 35:44He's currently my teammate on F124 in my team.
- 35:47Doohan, do the Jack Doohan.
- 35:48You couldn't afford anybody.
- 35:50You don't get much when you start.
- 35:53Fair enough.
- 35:55Well, while Joe looks at it, let's stay with Mercedes really quick, which I think Joe is
- 35:59actually going to bring up as a possible landing spot for Ocon as he's out at Alpine.
- 36:04So this is kind of where the conversation went with this individual that I was having
- 36:10this heated argument with.
- 36:11Call him out.
- 36:12Talking about you, Michael.
- 36:15Yeah.
- 36:16Michael.
- 36:17OK, Mercedes, right?
- 36:20We know Antonelli is slotted for Mercedes at some point.
- 36:24What are the possibilities they put in a rookie like on his first year in F1 in a Mercedes,
- 36:29right?
- 36:30Or I think they should put him in a Williams for a year, get him antiquated to F1 before
- 36:36getting him into a Merc.
- 36:38So my whole view right now is what are Mercedes options?
- 36:42They have a seat they need to fill.
- 36:43Carlos probably isn't going to take it.
- 36:45At least they don't seem interested in him.
- 36:47Kimi definitely feels like who they should go for, but going with a rookie is dangerous,
- 36:53especially with a rookie who isn't doing spectacular in his F2 season.
- 36:57He's not doing awful, but he's not doing amazing.
- 36:59He's not doing good.
- 37:00Right?
- 37:01So what are their options?
- 37:02So that's where Ocon came from.
- 37:04Ocon and Toto have gone way back.
- 37:06Toto got Ocon his job in Alpine.
- 37:09Toto was his manager.
- 37:10I remember on DTS.
- 37:11Exactly.
- 37:12That's why I know that is from DTS.
- 37:14He called up Renaud at the time and he was like, hey, get Ocon in there.
- 37:19Get him a seat.
- 37:22Do they put Ocon just because they know he knows how to drive an F1 seat and they're
- 37:26like, you know what, let's get this kid one more year while we get Kimi into a Williams
- 37:30for a year, get him antiquated in.
- 37:33We know that Ocon is aggressive, but he's not going to crash all the time as Kimi might
- 37:38because he's new to the sport.
- 37:40Or is Kimi Antonelli going to be like a piastri, right?
- 37:43Where he comes in and he just kind of knocks out of the park almost immediately.
- 37:47I think if you're talking about Ocon and going into that seat, if George Russell has any
- 37:51say, and at this rate, I think he should, I don't think you want, if you're, if you're,
- 37:55I don't think if you're Russell, you want to race with him.
- 37:57Right.
- 37:58You'd rather have a young gun one because you want to be the stud on the team and two
- 38:02because like that just builds your stock as a race driver.
- 38:05If you, if you have the Kimi next to you and you're helping him progress, I think that
- 38:08helps him.
- 38:09I think Ocon.
- 38:10He's good for George.
- 38:11Kimi is good for George.
- 38:13I think if George has a say, he wants Kimi.
- 38:14I think if George has Ocon, it's bad for George.
- 38:18If you've looked at Ocon's record and you're George, you're like, I don't want to race
- 38:21with this guy.
- 38:22I don't want to race next to him.
- 38:24If we're qualifying next to each other, it's a nightmare for me.
- 38:26Right.
- 38:27Those are two really interesting views actually.
- 38:29Cause I could see both.
- 38:31I could see both.
- 38:32I could see Ocon taking the seat for a year with the plan that you're going to put Antonelli
- 38:36in there in year two from now.
- 38:39Then then maybe that slots Ocon right into Williams or Ocon's gone out of F1 at that
- 38:43point.
- 38:44But if he does well, and maybe then Antonelli, maybe Antonelli just like isn't good.
- 38:48Right.
- 38:49He just comes to F1 and he just can't, he can't do it.
- 38:50Now they put him in, they put him into last year's Merc and he, he, now they're reporting
- 38:54that he did good laps in last year's Merc.
- 38:57So at what track?
- 38:58So did, so did Danny.
- 38:59Probably Silverstone, I would imagine.
- 39:00I'm not a hundred percent sure.
- 39:01So did Danny Rick in the RV-19.
- 39:02Exactly.
- 39:03Yeah.
- 39:04Exactly.
- 39:05So what does that really say?
- 39:06So how much are you basing it off that?
- 39:07Can they get him on the sim?
- 39:08They can, right?
- 39:09Yeah.
- 39:10Oh yeah.
- 39:11I would imagine.
- 39:12I mean, that's probably where they're pulling all their information off.
- 39:13Right.
- 39:14Yeah.
- 39:15I feel like that's more a publicity and for show to put him in the last year's car.
- 39:20I feel like they're pulling all their real information off the sim for Kimi.
- 39:24Do you think, do you think Mercedes waits that long to see if A, then they make the
- 39:31change with Sergeant, right?
- 39:33And now Sergeant is racing for, or I'm sorry, Kimi's in for Sergeant at Williams.
- 39:38And then based on that, do they then decide what they want to do with that second seat?
- 39:41Or is that too late for Mercedes at this point?
- 39:44I think.
- 39:45I think that's what the months down the road from now we're talking about probably.
- 39:47I think the big, the biggest reason you put Kimi in that spot next year is so nobody else
- 39:53can the following year.
- 39:54If he's in a Williams, if you're Mercedes, why you put him in that seat next year?
- 39:58If he's in a Williams next year, who's to say Kimi's a shoot just wants to go to Mercedes
- 40:02if Mercedes drops the ball and their development's not there for 2026?
- 40:05Pulls a pastry.
- 40:06You're a lot more likely to stay with the team you're already on than, and you're, when
- 40:10you're a contender, right?
- 40:12If you're on a Williams, obviously you're going to go to whoever would offer you better.
- 40:15That's of the top five.
- 40:17But I mean, that's why I think that Mercedes is afraid of losing him because a similar
- 40:21thing happened with Verstappen.
- 40:23They don't want to lose the young gun who's the prodigy of F1 for the next 10 years.
- 40:31You don't want to lose that potential.
- 40:32So you think Kimi's in the Mercedes next year?
- 40:34I do.
- 40:35Cause then the other kicker here with that here as well, right?
- 40:38Let's say Kimi just epically drops the ball next year.
- 40:41So you go find whoever's in 2026 with the new regs, you go with the driver market.
- 40:46That's going to be pretty open at the time as well.
- 40:48And you find that other driver.
- 40:49You got George locked down.
- 40:51So it's George ain't going anywhere.
- 40:52Yeah.
- 40:53No, George's not going anywhere.
- 40:54So see what you got in Kimi.
- 40:55I think there's, it only makes sense to put him into Mercedes next year, to put him into
- 40:59Williams, see what you got.
- 41:00I understand that point, see if he can perform at the F1 level, but that would be, I would,
- 41:05I would understand that if there was a good person to put in the Mercedes seat.
- 41:08There isn't.
- 41:09Carlos is not going there.
- 41:10If they can get science.
- 41:11He's on long term.
- 41:12Carlos isn't the long term plan for them obviously.
- 41:14Exactly.
- 41:15And why would he be?
- 41:16Right.
- 41:17Right.
- 41:18So like if you're Carlos, like why would you go and sign that with that team that you're,
- 41:20you're all, you know, you're only going to have a spot like definitively for one year.
- 41:24Now there's a chance Kimi goes into Williams, messes up and Carlos gets a long-term deal
- 41:27with Mercedes.
- 41:29But if Carlos were to go to Williams this year, sign a one year deal, Kimi messes up
- 41:33at Mercedes.
- 41:34I'm going to hate that.
- 41:35Now he might have a longer spot at Mercedes than if Kimi messes up.
- 41:39Him going to Williams is like a botus going to Sauber.
- 41:42But I think that's probably the most likely case.
- 41:44I mean, what, I don't know if it's their, their team boss or whatever came out and said
- 41:48the number one target now is Carlos for Williams.
- 41:50And I mean for Carlos, it's just.
- 41:53That's for every team I think right now.
- 41:54Of course, of course.
- 41:57But if you're Carlos, if you can't be in those arguably top four teams, right?
- 42:01Red Bull, Mercedes, McLaren, Ferrari, like then what?
- 42:05Then what?
- 42:06Then you take whatever you can get because you already have, what is it already like
- 42:09a line, a deal already lined up or he didn't.
- 42:11It was on the table and he decided not to sign it.
- 42:14With Williams?
- 42:15For Audi Sauber coming up.
- 42:16I don't know.
- 42:17I haven't heard anything because there was like the, you had to make the decision by
- 42:19what race was it?
- 42:20Right.
- 42:21But then we heard Monaco, wasn't it?
- 42:22No, it wasn't Monaco.
- 42:23It was before Monaco.
- 42:24What was the race before Monaco?
- 42:26Imola.
- 42:27It was, they wanted a race and the answer by Imola.
- 42:29I haven't heard it.
- 42:30Yeah.
- 42:31I haven't heard anything since then.
- 42:32Like whether Audi.
- 42:33For one way or the other.
- 42:34Whether Audi pulled the contract.
- 42:35Obviously Carlos didn't accept.
- 42:37Right.
- 42:38So that leads us into Carlos then, you know, obviously like what, what are his options
- 42:43now?
- 42:44We talked about Ocon's options.
- 42:45What is Carlos realistic options?
- 42:46I feel like he's got to have the playing field right now.
- 42:49I still feel like obviously like, uh, even if Audi we said, you know, they have this
- 42:55amount of time until he's done and then like Mercedes maybe just done with him.
- 43:00I think he's still, if he really wants to go anywhere, I think he can go anywhere.
- 43:03He might not get the same price he wanted to originally at the beginning of the season,
- 43:06but I still think he can go where he wants to go.
- 43:08But maybe he's viewing it as like maybe sign a one year deal and then hopefully hit new
- 43:13regs and you know, maybe he can be a player somewhere else.
- 43:16But that's, I mean, what do you do?
- 43:18What if you do if you're college for that one year deal?
- 43:20Do you try to get a championship or you just get the bag?
- 43:23Well, no, he's not going to be able to, he's not going to be able to sign with anybody.
- 43:27There's one team that has the potential to do that and that's Mercedes and you're only
- 43:30getting a one year deal.
- 43:31All right.
- 43:32Is it a shoe in for a championship?
- 43:34No, but you have a hell of a lot better chance at it.
- 43:36Any other team that has an open.
- 43:37But back on that, then, is it even worth it for Mercedes to sign Carlos for a discount?
- 43:41Right.
- 43:42They'll do it.
- 43:43One year.
- 43:44They've already come out and said they'll do it to risk losing Antonelli then potentially.
- 43:47Is that worth it to Mercedes?
- 43:48Well, I think so.
- 43:49If they can get Carlos, I think Carlos is Carlos would compete in the Mercedes because
- 43:54Carlos.
- 43:55So you put Carlos in the car next year.
- 43:56You have Carlos and George.
- 43:57That puts them in the best financial situation to go into 2026 because they are going to
- 44:02finish better in the constructor sand is then you would assume Kimmy and George would.
- 44:06Who knows?
- 44:07Kimmy comes in and could win 15 races next year.
- 44:09Yeah, I think, you know, is it going to happen?
- 44:12No.
- 44:13Yeah, especially in Mercedes.
- 44:14But for a team perspective, I definitely think that's the safest option for Mercedes to do
- 44:19because like you get in for one year, he doesn't cut it, get Antonelli in.
- 44:23But if he does cut it, maybe just keep Antonelli at Williams and keep, you know, the veteran
- 44:27of science.
- 44:28Then you're losing Antonelli.
- 44:29There's no way Kimmy, like with the Kimmy's talent that he has right now and the potential,
- 44:35he's not in a contender.
- 44:36I mean, sign, make him sign a contract that says you're with Williams for one year plus
- 44:41one year option.
- 44:42You get moved to Mercedes, maybe.
- 44:44Right.
- 44:45Why would he do that?
- 44:46And that's saying Antonelli got the Mercedes seat for next year or something.
- 44:49No, no, no Williams.
- 44:50No.
- 44:51Oh, if Antonelli.
- 44:52And if science got, science got Mercedes, no, science got Mercedes and then Antonelli
- 44:56got Williams.
- 44:57I really, really hope that science doesn't go to Williams because I feel like that's
- 45:01just that's just going to wear you out.
- 45:03I feel like the key ends the career.
- 45:05What better option is there?
- 45:08What better option is there outside of obviously Mercedes?
- 45:10Steak isn't good either, but long term that gets turned into Audi and that's like, that's
- 45:15like a perfect scenario.
- 45:16Who knows?
- 45:17For Carlos.
- 45:18Potentially.
- 45:19The Audi might be super bad, but like you have Carlos, his dad races Audis, right?
- 45:26And it just, it just makes sense.
- 45:28I've built this like fantasy story in my head that I've been sticking to since I've learned
- 45:32that Carlos doesn't have the Ferrari seat.
- 45:34He just, I think he needs to go to stake for that Audi seat.
- 45:37But yeah, hearing that Williams has been, I mean, they've been all over social media,
- 45:41I feel like talking about him.
- 45:43It's a little scary.
- 45:44I want him.
- 45:45I'm not going to lie.
- 45:46And I mean, I think you look at Williams with an Albans science pairing for at least a year.
- 45:50I mean, more than likely Carlos is going to sign a multi-year deal.
- 45:53Whether he sticks to it or not is beside the point, but that's a damn good pairing for
- 45:58a mid-level team.
- 45:59That's the most, this is the best outlook Williams has had for a minute.
- 46:03You're fighting for five, six at that point with those two.
- 46:04A hundred percent, a hundred percent.
- 46:06Especially Albin looks like he's gotten some pace these last couple of races.
- 46:09Albin's been picking it up.
- 46:10I mean, you get him, you get him a car underneath him.
- 46:12He's a dog.
- 46:13Yeah.
- 46:14No.
- 46:15Yeah.
- 46:16I really wish he would have got that Red Bull seat.
- 46:17Yeah.
- 46:18Yeah.
- 46:19I can't tell you how upsetting that Red Bull did that.
- 46:20And I hope it's to their demise.
- 46:21Oh yeah, let's talk about that.
- 46:22Yeah, go for it.
- 46:23Yeah.
- 46:24Lead right into it.
- 46:25Can't go obviously sign the deal.
- 46:26I hope it's to their demise.
- 46:27I think we're going to see by the end of the year, I don't think he makes it to two years.
- 46:31Yeah.
- 46:32Okay.
- 46:33I think after next year, maybe even mid season, they're pulling that guy.
- 46:36It's the team option.
- 46:37The team can decide to sign him for another year.
- 46:40I don't know how it was in F1.
- 46:41I thought it was a two year deal with a third year team option.
- 46:43Oh, I thought it was a two year with the second year being the option.
- 46:46I can double check.
- 46:47I don't.
- 46:48Yeah, double check.
- 46:49Yeah, look that up.
- 46:50I used to like NFL contracts and player options.
- 46:51Is that even a thing in F1?
- 46:53Is there a driver option or is it only team options that can extend you for that extra
- 46:57year?
- 46:58They can't get rid of him after one year either way.
- 46:59Well, I mean, if you sign them to your contract, you get rid of it the first year.
- 47:02You still got to pay him for that second year.
- 47:03Yeah, I think they take that risk.
- 47:05Depends on how much.
- 47:06I'm saying no matter what, no matter what the contract is, I don't think that he is
- 47:12there for two years.
- 47:13Yeah.
- 47:14No matter what the outcome is, no matter what the actual layout of the contract is, I don't
- 47:19think he's there for two years.
- 47:20I think it's dumb for them to do that.
- 47:22And it almost because of social media.
- 47:24And again, it's social media, so we don't really know the full story.
- 47:27But because he seemed to be the one that was asking for the two year deal, then they said,
- 47:32yeah, let's do it kind of.
- 47:33That's what it looks like on the outside looking in because it looked like on the outside looking
- 47:36in, they wanted to offer him a one year deal.
- 47:38And he was like, no, he wasn't about that.
- 47:40And he wants to.
- 47:41Yeah.
- 47:42And he finally got that.
- 47:43Oops.
- 47:44Oops.
- 47:45Right.
- 47:46It looks like there's no team or driver option.
- 47:49It's a two year deal.
- 47:50So it looks like Checo, though.
- 47:51It looks like Checo got the upper hand on that deal, and that makes Red Bull look dumb.
- 47:55But you're saying that you don't think even though it's a two year deal, you don't think
- 47:59even makes it those two years.
- 48:01Just that Red Bull take it, take a bite.
- 48:03But who would you put in there to pay?
- 48:07Hey, you got to also pay certain.
- 48:09Oh, wait, hold on.
- 48:11Whoever that's not that's not Checo.
- 48:14That's a big oof by them.
- 48:15They just lost themselves potential winning a couple more constructors by not putting
- 48:20a better driver in that seat.
- 48:21If you want to compete with Hamilton and Leclerc, if that car keeps getting better or McLaren
- 48:26or McLaren, when those drivers keep getting better, you can not have Checo in that second
- 48:30seat.
- 48:31It'll not pan out the next couple of years.
- 48:32Good.
- 48:33So heading into next season while these two keep going on the keyboards, you're thinking
- 48:37that Max and Checo, you know, you got Leclerc, Lewis and then obviously the two McLaren
- 48:43fellows going into next season.
- 48:46Do you have Red Bull winning the constructors next season?
- 48:49No, no, they're going to have a tough time winning it this year.
- 48:52No, for sure.
- 48:53We're already seeing that for sure.
- 48:54With Checo, they're going to have a tough time winning it.
- 48:55And I think that it's going to be one of those moves by the end of the year.
- 48:58This year, everybody's going to be like Red Bull.
- 49:00What were you thinking?
- 49:01And now that brings up the question of Max that we won't even touch on today because
- 49:05it'll be way too long of a conversation.
- 49:07But now you bring up the Max situation.
- 49:09Does Max end up departing?
- 49:11So for clarification on Checo's contract, it was a one plus one.
- 49:15So we don't know what that means because the team is not going to release that information.
- 49:18But it's a one year deal for sure.
- 49:20It's a one plus one is how Horner said it.
- 49:23That's open for interpretation.
- 49:24Horner literally said it.
- 49:25Horner came out and said it.
- 49:27So there's clauses within that.
- 49:30So he's here for one year.
- 49:31Hey, he also said 2026, new driver, right?
- 49:35Within that same like, they also mentioned Yuki's contract extension and Horner came
- 49:42out and said afterwards that they're all Red Bull drivers.
- 49:46Oh, that's interesting.
- 49:48The play on words there, I think is like some swap next season.
- 49:52So yeah, do you think he, I mean, so I think I feel like Checo is probably racing most
- 49:58of next year no matter what.
- 49:59But when 2026 comes around, yeah, maybe they swap him over to Alvatar for Yuki or something
- 50:03like that.
- 50:04That'd be crazy.
- 50:05That would be, I mean, at the moment, Danny Rick's still there too.
- 50:07I think Danny's there next year.
- 50:08I think Danny's got his pretty much all but confirmed.
- 50:11Which sucks because I want to see Liam in the car.
- 50:13But I also like Danny too.
- 50:15It's just, I don't know.
- 50:16The toughest thing for me about F1 is the amount of just same faces you see.
- 50:21And I love Danny Rick, but like it's tough to see the same faces every year.
- 50:26Like you get maybe two new faces every year, but the rest of them you don't.
- 50:30Maybe if you're lucky.
- 50:31Yeah.
- 50:32And you know the rest of them, so it's kind of tough.
- 50:33And I get like they bounce teams and stuff, but.
- 50:35Maybe two new colors with like people switching teams, but two new faces.
- 50:38Like that's just a huge rarity.
- 50:40Yeah.
- 50:41And it'll be interesting next year because if you look at like the new faces that would
- 50:44come in next year, who would they be?
- 50:45There's really only two candidates and it's Kimmy and Oli Behrman.
- 50:50And Liam.
- 50:51And Liam and Jack Dewan.
- 50:52I mean, reserve drivers.
- 50:53Jack Dewan, yeah.
- 50:54They're not new faces, but you know.
- 50:55No, no, no.
- 50:56That's what I'm meaning though.
- 50:57That's what I'm meaning.
- 50:58Different, different drivers on the grid.
- 51:00I didn't think of Alpine because Alpine I think it only makes sense if it was Dewan
- 51:03and Gaston next year.
- 51:04I don't think Liam has a seat next year.
- 51:06I think that's all we're going to do.
- 51:07Yeah, I think so too.
- 51:08Behrman deserves one obviously with Haas.
- 51:10Behrman sure should get one.
- 51:11Behrman's going to get it.
- 51:12But Behrman's not doing good enough too right now.
- 51:14Yeah, but I think he's kind of like, you know, he's proved himself a little bit.
- 51:19I think I think he's probably fine.
- 51:20I mean, he did get points in his first F1 race.
- 51:23Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 51:24It was in a Ferrari, but I mean, he's never driven an F1 car before.
- 51:28So or at least at that level.
- 51:30So obviously we've already mentioned Yuki staying at V-Car then too.
- 51:34It was like, yeah, it was wasn't it like a three?
- 51:37I did not put down what it was.
- 51:40Oh, no, it's one year.
- 51:41So Yuki's only there guaranteed for 2025.
- 51:43So yeah, he's still.
- 51:45And then you got the plus one on synergy.
- 51:47And Danny Rick probably get the same deal one year.
- 51:49I think so.
- 51:50They're not going to get him too.
- 51:52I feel like last time we were talking, I think we were all saying a different tune that Danny's
- 51:56probably gone.
- 51:57Right.
- 51:58So maybe rest of the season, maybe this was just like a good race for him and he just
- 52:00kind of starts messing up again.
- 52:02We're back on our old tune of like, he's not keeping him.
- 52:04When was the last time they had a team switch drivers?
- 52:07Was that when Red Bull pulled Gastly out and put in Albon or whatever?
- 52:12Or did they pull Albon and put Gastly?
- 52:13I can't remember.
- 52:14They both moved up that year.
- 52:15They pulled them both.
- 52:16They pulled one season and one literally the next season.
- 52:18Who was the driver that got kicked though?
- 52:20Who was the driver that lost their seat?
- 52:22Was it Red Bull driver that?
- 52:24Well, Gastly was with Ricardo first, right?
- 52:26And then he got pulled for Albon?
- 52:27But did Albon start the year as a Red Bull driver?
- 52:28No, I don't think Albon started the year as a Red Bull driver.
- 52:31I know I just hope he can't.
- 52:32Gastly got moved up to Red Bull after Danny left.
- 52:36Mid-season, Gastly got kicked for Albon.
- 52:38That's right.
- 52:39Albon started the year.
- 52:40Albon stayed for a year and a half and then got kicked for Checo and Albon was out a seat
- 52:44for that year and then he moved to Williams the next year after that.
- 52:47So Gastly went back down to Alfatari and stayed there.
- 52:51He didn't lose a seat at all.
- 52:52But Albon did not lose a seat mid-season.
- 52:54He gained the seat and then lost it after the second season he was in.
- 52:57Got it.
- 52:58Okay.
- 52:59Oh, so Albon didn't lose it during the year.
- 53:00No.
- 53:01Is that a possibility for next season then?
- 53:03I know.
- 53:04I know.
- 53:05And then we'll move on because we don't want to stay on there.
- 53:06I 100% think so.
- 53:07That's why I think that.
- 53:08Checo for Yuki?
- 53:09I mean, I think it's a subliminal horn or saying that they're all Red Bull drivers.
- 53:12I mean, in that tune he's also including that.
- 53:14Does that keep Ricardo in that conversation?
- 53:16Ricardo wasn't brought up in that conversation.
- 53:18So in that tune you would think the RBs, whoever those two are, are Red Bull drivers.
- 53:22It's not just Yuki of those.
- 53:25But it's interesting.
- 53:26I agree with you though, Cole.
- 53:27I don't think Checo finishes the year next year as a Red Bull driver.
- 53:30By the end of the year, we're all going to be, the last podcast, we're all going to be
- 53:34laughing that they even made that deal.
- 53:35I'm already laughing.
- 53:36I'm already laughing.
- 53:37Yeah.
- 53:38I'm already laughing.
- 53:39I'm already laughing.
- 53:40I'm already laughing.
- 53:41It's good to see it.
- 53:42It's a bad deal.
- 53:43It's a bad deal.
- 53:44It gets harder though, dude.
- 53:45I was 50-50.
- 53:46I figured we'd see at least another one.
- 53:47Because who else are they going to put in other than Carlos?
- 53:48Science.
- 53:49Science, science, science.
- 53:50What are we talking about?
- 53:51Science every day of the week.
- 53:52Other than Carlos, who would it have been, right?
- 53:53Nobody.
- 53:54So if they know they can't afford Carlos or don't want to afford Carlos, then you sign
- 53:59Sergio, like they did.
- 54:00I would've given Alban another spot up there.
- 54:03Yeah.
- 54:04Science.
- 54:05I would've given Bottas a spot before Checo.
- 54:07I wouldn't done that give you here Danny chance you can Danny are finishing
- 54:11Yuki and Danny are giving our finishing higher than check out when check goes in the better car like it it just yeah
- 54:17It doesn't I don't know. It's such a bad
- 54:20We also got a we also got to look at this from a larger lens though and look at the whole year
- 54:24Yeah, cuz where's checko in comparison to Danny and Yuki in the overall grand scheme of things driver, okay?
- 54:30fifth
- 54:31Cars this this point was brought up
- 54:33Yeah, this point was brought up to me by someone else that I was talking to about this last race and also talking about
- 54:38The contract with do you think Red Bull even like do you think they're even really like trying super hard to get that constructors?
- 54:45Are they just focusing solely on max getting driver? I?
- 54:48Think they're gonna hand in hand
- 54:51Want both money brother with getting with getting yeah with getting and that's kind of the point
- 54:56I brought up as well
- 54:57But with giving check out that that one year one plus one year like they're not focusing on a team effort
- 55:05If they signed him like that right well, but like last year the last year they even said with checko
- 55:12They were like he's gonna have to step up his performance if they want to see him in a car next year
- 55:15They said that about checko last season because of the fact entirely around the constructors. I think it's the same thing this year
- 55:21Mm-hmm. I think they're honestly probably banking on max a little too much this year
- 55:26I think it's gonna not for them well, and it's gonna be a big change next year, but I I think
- 55:32I just blanked on his name the president
- 55:36Horner Horner I think Horner wants both
- 55:40He wants the constructors and the drivers. Oh sure sure he does for sure he does
- 55:46Speaking of leaving Red Bull and all that new we obviously we know is out is now
- 55:51Very strongly rumored to be going to Ferrari on a three-year deal three-year 105 million oops
- 55:59That guy's change uh-huh so tell me this like with with Red Bull not having to pay this dude. How can't they afford science?
- 56:07That's a good point. Do you think that's why they didn't want to pay science though
- 56:10No, I don't think I don't think the Red Bull was even coming close to paying him this much money
- 56:15I think newie no no newie. I don't think I don't think Red Bull was paying him anything remotely close to 34 million dollars
- 56:21Sorry, sorry. I was thinking
- 56:24Yeah, I think for all he's going all in on like obviously Charles is their boy, but like
- 56:28Lewis is sniffing Mick. I think what I think he
- 56:32True we could see Lewis coming back
- 56:35Ferrari afford Lewis and new way yeah
- 56:38It's for our know they have cost caps right they don't have cost caps for personnel they have cost cap for like driver improvements
- 56:46Don't they have cost caps for drivers too. I don't think that
- 56:51Personnel but maybe not drivers. I'm pretty sure they have it for personnel
- 56:54I think I don't I don't think that factors into it because you got it because remember when Aston stole
- 56:5875% of Red Bull or Mercedes whatever was team like that couldn't have come cheap
- 57:02Yeah, yeah
- 57:03So it's like on I think the cost cap is like solely to do with upgrading the car and like which limitations you can place on
- 57:09the car itself and
- 57:11It also I just feel like that wouldn't make sense if they did that anyway because if you're the top guy like newie let him rip
- 57:17Yeah, and I mean I think what Ferrari is doing if this is true is they are banking on the new regs with having newie under belt
- 57:23Oh for sure. Oh, yeah, does include team personnel excluding the drivers so excluding drivers are okay team personnel
- 57:29So that's still 105 million for one of their junk. Maybe he isn't included this this has most team personnel salary
- 57:36So maybe he isn't there's probably a loophole they can get away with it. Oh, he's working on her hyper car
- 57:45You can give my title you could uh, they can do some stuff like NFL does I could change up the salary make it
- 57:51You know benefit them. I feel like there's so many ways there's so many ways you could like just fluctuate it
- 57:55So I keep finding more and more the cost cap does not include the wages of the three highest paid staff members
- 58:07Because we have the money and it won't matter yeah, that's that's interesting how there's like that in there
- 58:12I could literally have the three most expensive personnel members in the world and it doesn't count against
- 58:17Build your team. I mean like it don't depend and that's kind of where you know being is part of being a better
- 58:23Yeah, that's what's we're being a bigger company or a bigger brand. That's where you're yeah, that's where winning races
- 58:29Yeah, Ferrari doesn't have a cost like a cap require a cap limitation
- 58:35I mean Mercedes shouldn't I mean Mercedes doesn't need yeah, I mean no Red Bull does cuz it's like Red Bull doesn't have I mean
- 58:41It's obviously Red Bull. They're huge in the action sports on top of energy. Yeah, it's by the energy drink
- 58:46I'm gonna go back to check. Oh just for really really really really really really quick another
- 58:52Theory I heard of why check out got the gear extension is because of the Red Bull sales in Mexico if they drop him
- 58:59Think of like that just dipping it wasn't it wasn't only that that was a huge play in it
- 59:03But it was like the sponsorships they would lose. Yeah
- 59:10He's crazy marketable down
- 59:12The sponsors and he like that mean that the drivers a lot of the reason why they get their spot is the sponsorships
- 59:17They bring it's not about talent. Well, it is about talent to a certain obviously not for check
- 59:20But it's like but with the money that you bring to the team for in sponsorships alone
- 59:25That's how a lot of these guys get their like start good
- 59:31Yeah, that's how much I'm gonna get in Latifi same thing but so real quick I heard that um, who is the old?
- 59:37a Ferrari president before
- 59:39Mario Mario Mario Benado
- 59:47Buddies with Gunther yeah
- 59:50I heard that he's going to Aston Martin. I
- 59:54Think I heard something so much
- 59:56A few weeks now that's a president but but to workable. They're not presidents principal, whatever
- 1:00:04Your world homie
- 1:00:06But I heard a rumor of that actually a few weeks ago
- 1:00:10He's going to ask and not not so that's all not for the principal. But there's another high up
- 1:00:16Yeah, it was a big position. Yeah, probably one of those three. You don't have to
- 1:00:23You got anything to add real quick, I'm not finding anything on him. I thought I saw the same thing
- 1:00:30Maybe it didn't pan out or locked it in this fact
- 1:00:32Probably his dark lab Kev. Let's head to the Spain preview
- 1:00:48And
- 1:00:49Obviously right off the bat with their Spain preview Joe's kind of got our rundown of last year's Spanish Grand Prix Joe
- 1:00:56Take it away. Yes talking about
- 1:00:58The circuit day Barcelona Catalunya last this year's is called Formula One Aramico Gran Premio de España 2024
- 1:01:06This is thank you. Thank you. Like I said, I'm gonna try I'm gonna try naming them out every single race
- 1:01:12This is just a personal note. This is probably one of my best tracks in the in the actual game
- 1:01:15I feel like I crush crush this track
- 1:01:19A quick a quick fun fact to makes it to quarter four. Yeah. Yeah, and then I spin
- 1:01:24This is Fernando Alonso's most recent f1 win came at this circuit in 2013
- 1:01:31Another quick fact the circuit isn't amazing for overtakes
- 1:01:34But we did see a little bit of action last year that I'll jump into the start was max Carlos and Lando
- 1:01:40We saw the start of the race Carlos fighting max through the first few turns
- 1:01:44He got beaten by the Dutchman meanwhile behind them a bit of contact between Lewis and Lando season McLaren fall back slightly due to front wing
- 1:01:51Damage Lando has to pit early for a new wing ruining his chances of the his best finish so far in 2023
- 1:01:57This is still when the car was not looking amazing. It was right at the turning point. I would say
- 1:02:03For eight laps
- 1:02:04We saw stroll running third ahead of Hamilton before he made a move that gave him the overtake in the first corner
- 1:02:09On lap 28 after the first round of pits. We saw him go for the overtake on signs for second and
- 1:02:15Lewis makes that stick seven laps later
- 1:02:17Russell makes the overtake on signs to collect the final podium position with 30 laps to go in the race
- 1:02:23Alonso show shows seniority to his old teammate Ocon going for the overtake on lap 52 and fighting through Ocon super late wide defensive move
- 1:02:30Slotting him into seventh behind his teammate
- 1:02:33Perez who qualified 11th for Red Bull actually had a very strong race finding his way through the field and overtaking signs for fourth in
- 1:02:40lap 53 13 laps before the end of the race
- 1:02:42That move solidifies our final grid position Max finishing first a whopping 24 seconds ahead of the two Mercedes
- 1:02:49Who fill out the rest of the podium with Perez for four seconds and Ferrari another 10 seconds behind
- 1:02:54So our final was for Stappen to Hamilton to Russell to Perez to signs to stroll to Alonso to Ocon to Joe and then to
- 1:03:02Ghazli
- 1:03:03Sonoda was in the points, but he got a penalty for forcing Joe off the track
- 1:03:07Both McLaren's finished out of the podium
- 1:03:09Peastry 13th and North 17th Ferrari's only hope was signs today
- 1:03:13But he was unable to keep his position and he finishes fifth Leclerc finishing 12th
- 1:03:17This is a really good day for Mercedes both got into the podium Russell climbing nine positions to get his placement during the race
- 1:03:24So I think a couple things to note
- 1:03:27Checo good on this track. I think Red Bull in general were good on this track last year
- 1:03:33McLaren
- 1:03:34Lando
- 1:03:36Qualified really well, but he got a bad damage. So I wouldn't put his final position
- 1:03:40I wouldn't say that that's really means anything this year and then Mercedes also very good on this track
- 1:03:45So I don't have them in my predictions, but we might see another good race for Mercedes this weekend
- 1:03:52Yeah, no, that's what I'm thinking for sure. I mean
- 1:03:56Do you see I don't know that's really pushing it
- 1:04:00I don't know but with how well Mercedes ran last year
- 1:04:03It's such a different beast about that final chicane on the right before the last turn
- 1:04:07Yeah, then all the drivers love it too. Yeah, it makes it makes overtaking so much nicer
- 1:04:11Especially coming into that. Mm-hmm. This is a bottleneck right there that obviously McLaren is gonna have a way better day than they did
- 1:04:18Oh, yeah last season. I would imagine I think we see Ferrari bounce back for sure
- 1:04:22I think Mercedes gonna have another good race
- 1:04:24Last year they had two good races this time of year. They had a good race last year
- 1:04:29I think these tracks just line up for that that car if Lewis has an actual good drive by his definition
- 1:04:35I don't know. I don't want to like get crazy here and say Lewis is on the podium
- 1:04:40But let's let's say it again. I mean Lewis mid to end of the season every year will show out
- 1:04:48So he does this is when I mean looking I'm just looking at the Wikipedia of last year's kind of results here
- 1:04:52And this is when Lewis kind of made that turn in the season
- 1:04:54Mmm, no granted last year. Oh last year the ones I'll say it again
- 1:04:59I'm gonna take a risk on my podium when we get there, but same I'm gonna take a risk. But
- 1:05:05Do we see a guy like like Danny Rick not that we got to keep beating
- 1:05:10Beating a dead horse on Danny Rick's name. I mean, we always talk about him
- 1:05:13But do we see a guy like Danny Rick or the Alpines?
- 1:05:16Do they have an opportunity even get it in the season?
- 1:05:18I mean, I think they're gonna be a little bit more aggressive than they were last year
- 1:05:22It means do they have an opportunity even get into points this week or because those Ferraris we're assuming will be in that top 10
- 1:05:29Does that push a couple of these guys out stroll might be in that conversation?
- 1:05:33Do we see Hulkenberg have a better day? You know what? I mean who's who's gonna be that eight nine ten area?
- 1:05:39Difference I mean, yeah, and maybe I think Albon's gonna have a good race this week. You missed the bee first time threw me off
- 1:05:46Alon
- 1:05:51But I think we see Hulkenberg for sure up there with that car I think we see a bad race from Aston
- 1:05:57See a bad race from Aston. We see a bad race from Aston both the Astons
- 1:06:02and then we were gonna see one of the racing bulls we're gonna see either Yuki or
- 1:06:09Danny Rick, I'm curious to see if Danny Rick can
- 1:06:12I also I don't think it's gonna be finishing for Yuki again. I don't think it's got another good race for Alpine
- 1:06:18Yeah, I think we're gonna see back to almost kind of what we saw
- 1:06:23Earlier in the season kind of the top dogs are up there again
- 1:06:26I think this race for sure and I think we see
- 1:06:29You know where she like the the one Haas and I think we see one of the racing bulls and it's gonna be interesting
- 1:06:35I think we're to see the same kind of fight going up top. I think we're see a different switch of the fight you said
- 1:06:40a bad day for Aston
- 1:06:43Maybe you think Alonzo still in points type of bad day or do you think he's out of points?
- 1:06:47I mean, I'm assuming if you're saying Aston's having a bad day strolls not sniffing points. No, but no
- 1:06:53What about your boy Alonzo if if Alonzo sniffing points he's fighting 910
- 1:06:58Okay, he's not gonna have another 7-8 race or 6-7 8 race. Well again, I think they only finished that high
- 1:07:04I mean two Ferraris that automatically drops them another two spots from from Canada, but no, I think that's something to pay attention
- 1:07:11I mean, I didn't look bad. They finished 6-7
- 1:07:14But if you have eight right if you have eight of the top the top four teams, I think all eight are in the top ten
- 1:07:20Barring barring an engine issue or something that all eight are in the top ten this track especially with how good Mercedes
- 1:07:26So now you're talking about now who's a who's there to nine ten? Haas has got the top end speed. I
- 1:07:31Think we see one of the Haas up there. I think it's Nico
- 1:07:33They had the top end speed fastest track and I mean the reality is I mean the racing bulls look good right now
- 1:07:39they look very good both drivers look good and
- 1:07:42I think we see one of those two in the other other spots
- 1:07:45I think we see a Haas and a racing bull in 910 or 810 type situation
- 1:07:51Interesting. This is a comeback week for check. Oh
- 1:07:54I have scratch that scratch that we will not see all the top four in the top eight. I
- 1:08:01Check those check. Oh is either ten or
- 1:08:04Ten or out. I think that three like he's not somebody he has not shown this year that he can climb like he did last
- 1:08:10Year at all. He doesn't have that climb. I think no matter who he's fighting with it doesn't matter
- 1:08:15I think that three place grid penalty. I
- 1:08:19Keep forgetting about that. So I mean
- 1:08:21He might he might quality
- 1:08:251213 maybe climbs to 10 maybe dude. That's a good point. I totally forgot about the three place grid penalty for him, too
- 1:08:33Yeah, yeah
- 1:08:35It's at the bottom if we see him in there and I think if he's not in there I think again it's I think it's
- 1:08:41either Albon
- 1:08:43if
- 1:08:44Checos not in the top ten. It's either Albon or
- 1:08:46a Danny Rick in the top ten in that tenth spot. Mm-hmm. So what since you're since you got the floor
- 1:08:55What's your podium my podium is gonna be versus Stappen
- 1:09:00Classic I'm waiting for him. He's a
- 1:09:03Checking whether we're stopping. I'm gonna put a Lando. Yeah, and I'm gonna put Hamilton
- 1:09:10While go next I got the same thing. Oh
- 1:09:12whoa, oh
- 1:09:14I'm gonna be the one that won out looking at me. Yeah, I'm gonna go with
- 1:09:21For Stappen. Yeah, of course. I was tough second
- 1:09:26You're going for stepping in. Whoa, I think Lando's gonna win this race
- 1:09:33I'm going for Stappen
- 1:09:37Charles and then Lando, okay
- 1:09:41Very close to yours actually I'm going max Lando and signs
- 1:09:46Signs, okay. Yeah, it's just it's his home race. I'm done. I gave up on putting him in the top three
- 1:09:51I gave up on it gave up on putting signs in your top three so many times
- 1:09:54I lost so many points
- 1:10:02Give an update on the standings not the best week from Cole and Joel last week only getting one point
- 1:10:08Smell team I've got two so we are both currently tied for the lead with 16 points
- 1:10:13Joe was in third with 15 and Cole is bringing up the rear with 13
- 1:10:17Three's my lucky numbers, bro
- 1:10:20It's been killing me a whole year. I mean Russell last week just I mean instantly screwed us all. Yeah, that's all
- 1:10:27You know between you guys it was LeClaire, you know, it should be fun for next season would be getting an extra point for
- 1:10:36quality
- 1:10:37P1 like who's gonna quality P1?
- 1:10:44Yeah, quality blue bonus point I'm gonna add a whole nother line to all of these I pre-made this
- 1:10:50This spreadsheet for the whole year
- 1:10:53No, it's all good. We can do it
- 1:10:55You gotta do this off
- 1:11:02Max
- 1:11:04Not to be really lame on the first time we're doing it but I
- 1:11:09Got Lando
- 1:11:12Let's put me in for land. I was gonna say Lando too
- 1:11:14I was hoping I could be a little odd this week because I need the points dude
- 1:11:18I have the same lineup as Tyler and you're tied for first
- 1:11:22Take Lewis for pole
- 1:11:24It's just a straight listen to me. You're in last place. What are you doing?
- 1:11:28Although I was in last place for a hot minute. I start taking risks
- 1:11:31I thought I was taking a risk Orlando thing. We have money on this
- 1:11:37Joe who's your who's your it's gonna be for stabbing a hundred percent Maxwell. Yeah, he's coming back
- 1:11:43All right, screw it. We'll try it out. See you see what happens. Hmm. I like that extra little bonus point
- 1:11:50A little extra cheddar
- 1:11:52Let's do it this way you pick this race the other three of us any one of the races
- 1:11:56We get to pick a race. We want the extra one
- 1:11:58What you mean to only do it four times this season? No, let's do it every race. Yeah
- 1:12:03So we start thinking who's gonna finish?
- 1:12:05Should we start picking who's gonna finish last?
- 1:12:08Logan Logan
- 1:12:12That'd be kind of fun look a boost point we call it or the tents that'd be cool calling tent calling
- 1:12:17Tents would be fun. I should be fun. Yeah, and to be three points
- 1:12:20Oh boy now we're getting I think that's too many points now. We're getting crazy. I need them
- 1:12:33I wouldn't mind 10th. I like that idea. You know, I'm doing I'm pulling out check of the rest of the year
- 1:12:40Let's try this this week we might add 10th next week
- 1:12:43Or next whenever the heck we can just switch it up every race to just like a bonus point for whatever this week 10th or quality
- 1:12:50How many safety cars?
- 1:12:55We just have something that's worth the bonus point this week who takes first next week who finishes last week after like it
- 1:13:01I like it. Yeah, let's change it or how many safety cars are in the race. Yeah, I mean, it's a bonus point
- 1:13:06So whatever just last thing on this the scoreboard thing can we start going from first to last?
- 1:13:11I'm not gonna win if I if I if I can't just do the wild cards. I'll give you some crazy ones up there
- 1:13:17I'll just give it to me dude. I'm gonna be the crazy one. You want to predict first second and third?
- 1:13:21No, I'm saying I will throw in some crazy predictions in there like Lewis for pole
- 1:13:26That's not that crazy, but it's kind of crazy right now, right? Yeah, I'll throw those in there
- 1:13:30But I need to go last some dead last
- 1:13:34I want to go last cuz I don't want anybody else to be the same pick cuz I need the point
- 1:13:37Oh, so you just want to throw a wild card in no matter what so if we all
- 1:13:41Point so if we go max Charles Lando, you're gonna be like Botas. Yeah. Yeah, so
- 1:13:54Alright well with that that was
