- 0:00Speaker 1: Live from the Sky New Center. This is the Kenny Report.
- 0:06Speaker 1: Thanks for joining me.
- 0:07Speaker 2: That long awaited US and Israeli strike against Iran, what
- 0:11Speaker 2: it means for the people of Iran, for Israel and
- 0:14Speaker 2: the Middle East, as well as global security. I'll talk
- 0:17Speaker 2: to James Patterson, Eleka Lebon and we'll cross to Israel.
- 0:21Speaker 1: The ABC is added again.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Running lines that are anti Trump, anti Israel and anti
- 0:28Speaker 2: Australia and Australian mosque prepared to honor the late Ayatola
- 0:33Speaker 2: and what they call is martyrdom.
- 0:38Speaker 1: All that plus Caroline and Jimmy.
- 0:39Speaker 2: It's thirty years today since John Howard was elected Prime Minister.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Let's get cracking.
- 0:49Speaker 2: The repercussions of the war against Iran are momentous for
- 0:53Speaker 2: the Middle East and for global security. The potential benefits
- 0:57Speaker 2: for the free world are enormous, not to mentioned for
- 1:00Speaker 2: the oppressed people of the Islamic Republic of Iran, especially
- 1:04Speaker 2: the women. Let's start with the incredible military strike. Convinced
- 1:10Speaker 2: that Iran will not give up its nuclear ambitions, long
- 1:13Speaker 2: range missile program or sponsorship of terrorism, the US and
- 1:18Speaker 2: Israel were ready to act, as we've discussed here for weeks.
- 1:22Speaker 2: Then the CIA received intelligence that the Supreme Leader of Iran,
- 1:27Speaker 2: Aetola Ali Hamane, would be meeting in Tehran with his
- 1:33Speaker 2: military leadership. The US alerted Israel, and on Saturday morning,
- 1:39Speaker 2: they struck with precision in Tehran, decapitating the religious and
- 1:44Speaker 2: military leadership of the country. The US and Israel have
- 1:48Speaker 2: also been taking out military facilities and the ruthless Islamic
- 1:53Speaker 2: Revolutionary Guard Corps.
- 1:56Speaker 3: Iran's formerly supreme leader, Atol Amene is dead. This wretched
- 2:04Speaker 3: and vile man had the blood of hundreds and even
- 2:08Speaker 3: thousands of Americans on his hands and was responsible for
- 2:12Speaker 3: the slaughter of countless thousands of innocent people all across
- 2:18Speaker 3: many countries.
- 2:20Speaker 2: Iranians have had forty seven years under this Islamist regime,
- 2:24Speaker 2: where dancing is prohibited, there are nightly curfews, and women
- 2:29Speaker 2: are arrested for not wearing their veals properly. All the
- 2:33Speaker 2: while around rhetoric and terrorism has been directed at Israel.
- 2:39Speaker 4: Tatoya mohobot regime. Sambo you know this would be iron
- 2:48Speaker 4: cardrat Takar rodea mile tirandro Hanu Sanehman. Either way, being munin.
- 3:24Speaker 2: The elimination of Israel has long been a national goal
- 3:28Speaker 2: pursued literally with religious zeal. In recent months, people protested
- 3:34Speaker 2: against their theocratic overlords and thirty thousand of them were slaughtered,
- 3:41Speaker 2: which explains why across Iran over the weekend, people cheered
- 3:46Speaker 2: foreign bombs attacking regime facilities, and then crowds flooded streets
- 4:04Speaker 2: celebrating the death of their Islamist dictator the Aetola. Although
- 4:21Speaker 2: not confirmed, it seems the US managed to hack into
- 4:25Speaker 2: Iranian television broadcasting part of President Donald Trump's speech, complete
- 4:30Speaker 2: with subtitles.
- 4:32Speaker 5: America is backing you with overwhelming strength and devastating force.
- 4:37Speaker 5: Now is the time to seize control of your destiny
- 4:40Speaker 5: and to unleash the prosperous and glorious future that is
- 4:45Speaker 5: close within your reach.
- 4:47Speaker 2: This is the moment for action, extraordinary stuff. The bombs
- 4:51Speaker 2: and missiles continue, and Iran has fired indiscriminately at civilian targets.
- 4:58Speaker 2: At least nine people were in Israel, and Rokison drones
- 5:02Speaker 2: hit hotels and airports in the United Arab Emirates. The
- 5:06Speaker 2: exchanges could go on for weeks, or they could end
- 5:10Speaker 2: sooner if Iranian military chiefs defect or surrender. Iran has
- 5:15Speaker 2: killed three US soldiers in Kuwait, and Donald Trump has
- 5:19Speaker 2: warned there will be more casualties. But let's unpick the
- 5:24Speaker 2: big picture in what could be a watershed for the
- 5:26Speaker 2: Middle East and global security. You see, it all stems
- 5:30Speaker 2: back to October the seventh, a fatal miscalculation by Israel's enemies.
- 5:36Speaker 2: The rationale for October the seventh, back in twenty twenty
- 5:39Speaker 2: three was clear. Hummas and its supporters in Gaza wanted
- 5:44Speaker 2: to attack Israel with such ferocity and barbarity that it
- 5:48Speaker 2: would spark a war, a ground invasion in Gaza. This
- 5:53Speaker 2: invariably would lead to civilian casualties. Hummus wanted that and
- 5:57Speaker 2: made sure of that. The idea was to generate enough
- 6:01Speaker 2: outrage and animosity in the Arab world to support a
- 6:04Speaker 2: multi pronged attack on Israel, and that's what we saw.
- 6:10Speaker 2: After Hamas invaded in the south, Hesballah attacked Israel again
- 6:15Speaker 2: from the north, and the Houties fired missiles from their
- 6:18Speaker 2: Yemeny base to the east. Then, of course Iran attacked
- 6:23Speaker 2: Israel directly. There are two crucial points to understand about
- 6:29Speaker 2: this five pointed assault on Israel. First, all of the attacks,
- 6:35Speaker 2: all the terror groups are funded and largely controlled by Iran.
- 6:41Speaker 2: This was a multi pronged assault on Israel by Iran. Second,
- 6:47Speaker 2: Israel has defended all these attacks and defeated the enemies.
- 6:52Speaker 2: Humas is all but eliminated in Gaza, Hezbillah has been
- 6:56Speaker 2: decimated in Lebanon, the Hooties hit hard in Yemen, and
- 7:00Speaker 2: now Iran itself is on the brick. If Iran's evil
- 7:06Speaker 2: regime can be eliminated, then not only will its military
- 7:10Speaker 2: cease to be a threat, but its proxy terrorist armies
- 7:14Speaker 2: across the Middle East will be largely newted. This could
- 7:19Speaker 2: create a golden opportunity for security and peace in the
- 7:23Speaker 2: Middle East. The Abraham Accords could be expanded so that
- 7:26Speaker 2: more Arab nations accept Israel's right to exist. One worries
- 7:33Speaker 2: the Sunni Shia divide in many ways. It's more telling
- 7:36Speaker 2: than the national borders. The last thing we want is
- 7:39Speaker 2: the Shia majority in Iraq siding with the Iranian Shia
- 7:43Speaker 2: in destabilizing the region. Already, the reaction from the Shia
- 7:48Speaker 2: minority in Pakistan has been worrying. As for Israel, despite
- 7:54Speaker 2: more than two years under constant terrorist and military attack
- 7:59Speaker 2: and years of demonization and diplomatic criticism. Well, it's now
- 8:05Speaker 2: more secure than it's been for a very long time.
- 8:09Speaker 2: Israel has been attacked on five fronts, and it's defeated
- 8:13Speaker 2: four of those enemies. The fifth is Iran, which has
- 8:18Speaker 2: been the main enemy for two decades, and it could
- 8:21Speaker 2: soon be defeated too. Israel emerges from all this vastly
- 8:28Speaker 2: more secure, perhaps than it's ever been. How's that worked
- 8:33Speaker 2: out for the so called terrorist masterminds? While all this
- 8:41Speaker 2: has played out over the past twenty eight months, Australia
- 8:44Speaker 2: could have been on the right side of history. We
- 8:46Speaker 2: could have stood by Israel as the US has done.
- 8:50Speaker 2: We could have stood by our ally the US too,
- 8:53Speaker 2: by voting with them at the United Nations and supporting
- 8:56Speaker 2: US attempts to eradicate terrorists and defeat Hummas.
- 9:01Speaker 1: But instead Albanesi has been weak.
- 9:05Speaker 2: He's abandoned Israel, he's demonised Israel, he's recognized the non
- 9:10Speaker 2: existent state of Palestine, thereby winning praise from Hummus. And
- 9:16Speaker 2: with the evil Empire of Iran about to tumble, a
- 9:20Speaker 2: regime that's had a synagogue firebomb on our shores, well,
- 9:24Speaker 2: with Iran on the brink of defeat, Albanesi was again
- 9:28Speaker 2: weak and Waffley.
- 9:31Speaker 6: I wanted to see when it comes to military action,
- 9:35Speaker 6: I think as always Australia always supports diplomatic action where possible,
- 9:44Speaker 6: and we hope that the actions that have been taken
- 9:48Speaker 6: lead to a swift resolution. And we also say that
- 9:55Speaker 6: very clearly the consequences of this, that we are concerned
- 10:02Speaker 6: about the regional escalation.
- 10:05Speaker 1: Albou Albo, Albo, it's not that hard mate.
- 10:11Speaker 2: Just support Israel, support the US and condemn the Iranian regime.
- 10:18Speaker 2: Sometimes there are good guys and bad guys. There is
- 10:22Speaker 2: good and evil. Just find the moral clarity and the
- 10:28Speaker 2: political backbone to stand up for good and to stand
- 10:33Speaker 2: against evil. But he can't do that, can he Either
- 10:38Speaker 2: because he can't work it out, which would be a worry,
- 10:42Speaker 2: or more likely Albo is wobbly on this stuff because
- 10:45Speaker 2: he's petrified about the political reaction from some elements of
- 10:49Speaker 2: the Muslim community and from hard left.
- 10:53Speaker 1: Activists, and that's even more of a worry.
- 10:57Speaker 2: Meanwhile, Mosques in Australia planning to hold prayer ceremonies to
- 11:03Speaker 2: honor what they called the martyrdom of Ayotola Ali Haminae.
- 11:09Speaker 2: This man has been the chief funder of global terrorism
- 11:13Speaker 2: for decades. He was responsible for the murder of thousands
- 11:17Speaker 2: of innocents, including Iranians. His personal army, the IRGC, is
- 11:24Speaker 2: now a listed terror group in this country. So any
- 11:28Speaker 2: support for this man or his supporters is surely support
- 11:32Speaker 2: for a banned terror group. Let's see if Albanezi has
- 11:36Speaker 2: the spined, the spine and backbone to.
- 11:41Speaker 1: Stand up against this.
- 11:46Speaker 2: Media coverage of the Iranian strikes has been appalling.
- 11:51Speaker 1: So many journalists and commentators.
- 11:53Speaker 2: Who have ignored the slaughter of thirty thousand protesters in
- 11:57Speaker 2: Iran in recent weeks are suddenly outraged that the US
- 12:00Speaker 2: and Israel are attacking the perpetrators of that brutal repression,
- 12:06Speaker 2: and media, including our own ABC, have been quick to
- 12:10Speaker 2: accuse the US and Israel of bombing a school and
- 12:15Speaker 2: killing more than one hundred students and staff. Remember, most
- 12:19Speaker 2: of these media organizations and journalists have been willingly duped
- 12:23Speaker 2: by Hummas propaganda for years, wrongly accusing Israel of bombings
- 12:28Speaker 2: and attacks and then burying their corrections. This time they
- 12:32Speaker 2: accuse Israel and the US of bombing a girl's school.
- 12:37Speaker 2: I mean, you couldn't imagine a worse war crime here
- 12:42Speaker 2: it is from Women's Agenda. The death toll from a
- 12:45Speaker 2: US and Israeli missiles strike on a girls school in
- 12:50Speaker 2: southern Iran has risen to one hundred and sixty five,
- 12:54Speaker 2: according to Iranian authorities. According to Iranian authorities, how could
- 13:02Speaker 2: you quote a terrorist regime in the middle of a war.
- 13:07Speaker 2: But the ABC two said more than one hundred were
- 13:10Speaker 2: killed by US and Israeli air strikes on a school.
- 13:15Speaker 2: They make it sound like they targeted a school. You
- 13:19Speaker 2: might as well get your news from the anti Israel,
- 13:22Speaker 2: anti US Katari based Al Jazeera, which said the death
- 13:26Speaker 2: toll has risen from an Israeli strike that hit a school. Now,
- 13:32Speaker 2: don't get me wrong, and don't be misled. Something terrible
- 13:36Speaker 2: has happened here. Make no mistake about that a school
- 13:39Speaker 2: was hit and that casualties are terrible. But whether this
- 13:43Speaker 2: was a misfired Iranian missile or a misdirected US or
- 13:48Speaker 2: Israeli attack, we just don't know yet. And quoting Iranian
- 13:53Speaker 2: sources without caution or at least some skepticism, well, that
- 13:57Speaker 2: obviously is reckless. And to suggest it's a strike at
- 14:02Speaker 2: a school is just sick because if indeed this turns
- 14:06Speaker 2: out to be a US or Israeli missile, we know
- 14:09Speaker 2: it won't have been deliberate. It could be a tragic
- 14:13Speaker 2: accident in war. There are Iranian military installations nearby. Anyway,
- 14:19Speaker 2: It's clear the anti Israel and anti US coverage that
- 14:22Speaker 2: we've seen for more than two years over Gaza is
- 14:26Speaker 2: already being fired up in this conflict. And your taxes
- 14:31Speaker 2: are funding biased ranting at the ABC, attacking Donald Trump,
- 14:36Speaker 2: attacking Israel and even attacking the LIMP support they've received
- 14:41Speaker 2: from alban.
- 14:41Speaker 7: Easy when they put out Australia puts out a statement
- 14:45Speaker 7: like this and doesn't even say we support the war.
- 14:48Speaker 7: I think the Australian public are entitled to say, who's
- 14:52Speaker 7: writing all this stuff?
- 14:53Speaker 8: So what do you think is behind it? What do
- 14:55Speaker 8: you think is this in an agenda?
- 14:56Speaker 7: I think the real agenda here is for long time,
- 15:00Speaker 7: Benjamin Ettejoho in Israel have wanted regime change in Iran.
- 15:04Speaker 1: They've made no secret of that, and I think that they.
- 15:07Speaker 7: Have convinced Donald Trump to come along for this. Donald
- 15:11Speaker 7: Trump thinks it's fairly low risk politically for him.
- 15:14Speaker 1: Iran has not.
- 15:15Speaker 7: Been top of his agenda by any mean, I think
- 15:17Speaker 7: it's been driven by Israel to change the regime in Iran.
- 15:22Speaker 2: What biased, disingenuous tosh. Of course, Israel wants rid of
- 15:27Speaker 2: the evil regime in Tehran. What sane, civilized person wouldn't.
- 15:32Speaker 2: Here's what Iran's been saying about Israel for decades.
- 15:42Speaker 9: Death to America, death to Great Britain, death to Israel,
- 15:45Speaker 9: death to the hypocrites, the hypocrites meaning the met And
- 15:50Speaker 9: finally that's to Israel.
- 15:53Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, why would Israel in the US want
- 15:55Speaker 2: to get rid of that regime? And Lyons knows also
- 15:58Speaker 2: that thirty thous and Iranians have been killed in recent
- 16:02Speaker 2: weeks for protesting against the regime. He knows also that
- 16:06Speaker 2: the proxies he's talked about are terrorist armies funded and
- 16:11Speaker 2: controlled by Iran that murder people and destabilize the region.
- 16:16Speaker 2: And he also knows Iran has committed to rebuilding its
- 16:20Speaker 2: nuclear program, refusing to disavowl it after months of negotiations.
- 16:27Speaker 2: Lions knows all this, but ignores it to run at
- 16:31Speaker 2: your expense a misleading undergraduate anti US, anti Israel, anti
- 16:38Speaker 2: Western civilization line that would be popular at a university.
- 16:43Speaker 2: Pro Palestinian rally.
- 16:45Speaker 1: There's a lot of.
- 16:48Speaker 7: Untrue statements and narratives being told.
- 16:51Speaker 10: At the moment, they're almost making that case for war.
- 16:53Speaker 7: After that's strike, they're all in mind unison now, I
- 16:57Speaker 7: mean Anti Albanesi's statement could have been written the United
- 17:00Speaker 7: States and Israel.
- 17:02Speaker 1: It is straight out of their playbook.
- 17:05Speaker 2: And Lions rants could have been written by the Aetola himself.
- 17:10Speaker 2: Most of us surely would want the US and Israel
- 17:13Speaker 2: and Australia standing together. Western liberal democracies should stand together
- 17:20Speaker 2: against terrorism, against proxy armies, against the repression of women
- 17:26Speaker 2: and the slaughter of protesters, and they should work together
- 17:30Speaker 2: to prevent rogue states getting nuclear weapons and long range missiles.
- 17:35Speaker 2: This can keep us safe and lunatic ranting like we
- 17:40Speaker 2: get from Lions does not belong on publicly funded media.
- 17:45Speaker 11: The group Stand for Palestine OZ on its Instagram page
- 17:49Speaker 11: has actually reposted these comments. So I didn't mean to
- 17:54Speaker 11: play that of John Lyons. And of course there is
- 18:00Speaker 11: some suggestion that this group is a front for Hitzbati here,
- 18:04Speaker 11: so I am really concerned about the tenor of this commentary,
- 18:09Speaker 11: and I would call on hu Marx as the editor
- 18:12Speaker 11: and chief to shut down this sort of commentary and
- 18:14Speaker 11: just stick with the facts.
- 18:17Speaker 2: Yeah, Lions and plenty of others at the ABC are
- 18:20Speaker 2: a disgrace.
- 18:21Speaker 1: They show no moral integrity.
- 18:24Speaker 2: The ABC needs to remember it is funded by taxpayers
- 18:29Speaker 2: who in the main support liberal democracy and oppose terrorist regimes.
- 18:37Speaker 2: This isn't a political position. This is kind of central
- 18:40Speaker 2: to our national values. Let's head straight down to Canberra
- 18:48Speaker 2: then and catch up with Shadow Defense Minister Senator James Patterson.
- 18:51Speaker 1: Thanks for joining us, James.
- 18:53Speaker 2: Look, Anthony ALBERNIZI has kind of supported the Israelian US
- 18:59Speaker 2: action again, Iran, has he been strong enough in supporting
- 19:02Speaker 2: this action?
- 19:05Speaker 9: Well, because I think it's a good thing and appropriate
- 19:07Speaker 9: thing that the Australian government is supportive of this action.
- 19:10Speaker 9: But like you, I've noticed there's some weasel words and
- 19:13Speaker 9: careful language in the Prime Minister statements about this. For example,
- 19:17Speaker 9: he said he welcomes the United States action in this.
- 19:20Speaker 9: Of course, it's a joint operation between Israel and the
- 19:22Speaker 9: United States. It would not have happened if it wasn't
- 19:24Speaker 9: a joint operation between Israel and the United States. And
- 19:27Speaker 9: we should state that we're supportive of both what Israel
- 19:30Speaker 9: and the United States are doing. Here in Iran, because
- 19:32Speaker 9: otherwise it wouldn't have proceeded. The Prime Ministers also said
- 19:35Speaker 9: that he doesn't mourn and no one would mourn the
- 19:37Speaker 9: departure of the Alatai hominy. But actually, shouldn't we just
- 19:41Speaker 9: be saying it's a good thing that the Aatollah has
- 19:43Speaker 9: been removed from power as a result of this joint
- 19:45Speaker 9: action by the United States and Israel. So do give
- 19:48Speaker 9: the credit to the government for welcoming this action. But
- 19:51Speaker 9: of course I think he has one eye on domestic
- 19:53Speaker 9: politics and his left wing base, and he's conscious of
- 19:56Speaker 9: not being too overt in his welcoming of this action.
- 20:00Speaker 2: Now there's no doubt about this, and nobody wants war,
- 20:03Speaker 2: and lives have been.
- 20:05Speaker 1: Lost and will be lost.
- 20:06Speaker 2: But we can just see from the response of Iran
- 20:09Speaker 2: what sort of a regime it is, because it's attacking
- 20:11Speaker 2: civilian targets in states like the United Arab Emirates which
- 20:15Speaker 2: are not directly involved, so it's trying to spread the terror,
- 20:19Speaker 2: if you like. And the other point here is we've
- 20:22Speaker 2: got to talk about what the benefits of this action,
- 20:25Speaker 2: the benefits for Middle East peace and eliminating the spread
- 20:29Speaker 2: of global terrorism, as well as the threat of nuclear
- 20:33Speaker 2: weapons and long range missiles is huge, isn't it, Chris.
- 20:38Speaker 9: When people show you who they are, you should believe
- 20:41Speaker 9: them the first time. And the Uranian regime has shown
- 20:43Speaker 9: us who they are in their slaughter of their own citizens,
- 20:47Speaker 9: in their sponsorship of terrorism around the Middle East, in
- 20:50Speaker 9: their world, in their sponsorship of state sponsored terror in
- 20:53Speaker 9: our country in Australia, and now, of course, as you say,
- 20:56Speaker 9: with this indiscriminate rocket fire targeting neighbors who are not
- 21:01Speaker 9: parties to the conflict, and targeting civilian assets and infrastructure
- 21:05Speaker 9: including hotels, airports, roads and other significant features of the
- 21:10Speaker 9: United Arab Emirates and Qatar and others. So it's very
- 21:13Speaker 9: clear the nature of this regime, and it's very clear
- 21:16Speaker 9: that the world would be a better place if this
- 21:18Speaker 9: regime was no longer in power. Certainly it would be
- 21:20Speaker 9: better for Iranians. And if we're in any doubt about
- 21:23Speaker 9: where we should stand on this, just look at the
- 21:26Speaker 9: joy with which the Iranian diasper in Australia and the
- 21:29Speaker 9: rest of the world have welcomed these attacks and welcomed
- 21:33Speaker 9: the Aatolas removal from power.
- 21:35Speaker 2: Well, one aspect of this that you've campaigned for over
- 21:39Speaker 2: a long period of time, and the government finally acted
- 21:41Speaker 2: on last year was the listing of the Islamic Revolutionary
- 21:45Speaker 2: Guards CORE as a terror group in Australia. Now this
- 21:48Speaker 2: is effectively the Aatola's key military wing, the aa Toler's
- 21:53Speaker 2: private army, the Late Aatoler.
- 21:55Speaker 8: That is.
- 21:56Speaker 2: Yet we read that Australian mosques in coming days are
- 22:01Speaker 2: proposing the whole prayer services for the Ayatola for the
- 22:05Speaker 2: martyrdom of the Aotola. Could these prayer services be in
- 22:09Speaker 2: breach of that listing of the IRGC.
- 22:14Speaker 9: It is possible. Chris, Yes, it's deeply disturbing, whether it's
- 22:17Speaker 9: a violation of the law or not, that anyone in
- 22:19Speaker 9: Australia thinks it's a good idea to hold a celebration
- 22:23Speaker 9: of the life of the Aetola after everything he has
- 22:25Speaker 9: done to our country, the Middle East and Iranians. But
- 22:28Speaker 9: it may also be a breach of the law because
- 22:31Speaker 9: it is an offense to glorify terrorism. It is an
- 22:33Speaker 9: offense to praise a terrorist organization in a way that
- 22:36Speaker 9: incites others act to take out an active terrorism and
- 22:40Speaker 9: of course it's also an offense to display a symbol
- 22:43Speaker 9: or logo of a listed terrorist organization. Now, as you say,
- 22:46Speaker 9: as a result of coalition campaigning, the IRGC, which the
- 22:49Speaker 9: Aetola is the head, is now listed as a terrorist
- 22:52Speaker 9: organization in this country. So I hope the federal police
- 22:55Speaker 9: are now investigating these mosques and anyone associated with these
- 22:58Speaker 9: activities for breaches of the lad law.
- 23:00Speaker 2: I just want to share with you some of the
- 23:02Speaker 2: commentary we've had from the taxpayer funded media in this country,
- 23:06Speaker 2: the ABC and their America's editor, John Lyons, have a
- 23:10Speaker 2: look at this.
- 23:11Speaker 1: My main impression is that this is being driven by Israel.
- 23:14Speaker 7: And what we just heard was the President of the
- 23:17Speaker 7: United States, in my assessment, almost saying word for word
- 23:21Speaker 7: Israel's agenda.
- 23:23Speaker 2: So it's all about the evil agenda supposedly of Israel,
- 23:26Speaker 2: as if Israel doesn't have a right to have an.
- 23:28Speaker 1: Agenda to defend itself.
- 23:30Speaker 2: But is this sort of commentary from the ABC what
- 23:34Speaker 2: taxpayers should expect.
- 23:37Speaker 9: Those comments by John Lyons are reckless and irresponsible given
- 23:41Speaker 9: the climate of antisemitism we've seen in our countries since
- 23:44Speaker 9: October seven. One of the tropes, one of the anti
- 23:47Speaker 9: Semitic conspiracy theories about the Jewish community and israel Is
- 23:51Speaker 9: that they secretly control foreign governments, including US government. Now,
- 23:55Speaker 9: it is ludicrous to suggest that President Trump is controlled
- 23:58Speaker 9: by anyone other than himself, that is not making decisions
- 24:01Speaker 9: in what he believes is the US national interest and
- 24:04Speaker 9: consistent with US values. So for John Lyons to suggest
- 24:07Speaker 9: that is outrageous. He should have apologized. The ABC should
- 24:11Speaker 9: haul him in if he will not apologize. Equally inappropriate
- 24:16Speaker 9: was his comments about our Prime minister, suggesting that the
- 24:18Speaker 9: statement from the Australian government reflected quote political propaganda. Now,
- 24:22Speaker 9: I am no defender of Anthony Alberanzi, but in this instance,
- 24:26Speaker 9: all he was doing was stating the obvious and appropriate
- 24:30Speaker 9: Australian government position, which is we are in favor of
- 24:33Speaker 9: degrading the nuclear and ballistic arms capability of a terror
- 24:37Speaker 9: state like Iran. And to suggest that that political propaganda
- 24:41Speaker 9: is again completely unhinged, John Lyones really needs to be
- 24:44Speaker 9: brought back to hell.
- 24:46Speaker 1: Yeah, it is just beyond the payo.
- 24:48Speaker 2: I want to go to question time today in the
- 24:49Speaker 2: Lower House and Anthony Albanesi was questioned on the return
- 24:53Speaker 2: of Islamic state families to Australia whether his government had
- 24:58Speaker 2: provided any assistance.
- 24:59Speaker 12: Part of his response, we are not repatriating these people.
- 25:05Speaker 1: We have made it clear a non.
- 25:07Speaker 12: Government organization took us to court demanding that we do
- 25:12Speaker 12: that when we oppose that court action. We won the
- 25:15Speaker 12: court decision, and those opposite know that this is the case.
- 25:20Speaker 12: Their hypocrisy on this is extraordinary given that forty people
- 25:24Speaker 12: came home on their watch, including including not partners or relatives,
- 25:31Speaker 12: including ISIS fighters.
- 25:34Speaker 1: Is he right, James Patterson?
- 25:35Speaker 2: And that this government is doing nothing that previous coalition
- 25:38Speaker 2: governments haven't done.
- 25:41Speaker 1: Well.
- 25:41Speaker 9: Previous coalition governments use the powers available to them to
- 25:44Speaker 9: firstly take out a temporary exclusion orders to keep people offshore.
- 25:48Speaker 9: We did so on eight occasions. This government's only done
- 25:51Speaker 9: so on one occasion. And previous coalition governments refused and
- 25:55Speaker 9: canceled hundreds of passports to suspected ISIS fighters and supporters
- 26:01Speaker 9: to either prevent them from leaving our country joining Islamic
- 26:04Speaker 9: State or to prevent them from returning to Australia after
- 26:07Speaker 9: they left to join Islamic State. This government has failed
- 26:10Speaker 9: to do so. In fact, they've been telling us that
- 26:13Speaker 9: they have no power to do so. When Section fifteen
- 26:16Speaker 9: of the two thousand and five Australian Passports Act is
- 26:18Speaker 9: clear the government can and in our of you should,
- 26:22Speaker 9: refuse and cancel passports for anyone who represents a security
- 26:25Speaker 9: threat to Australia as an ISIS supporter.
- 26:27Speaker 1: Clearly does James Patterson, thanks so much for joining us.
- 26:32Speaker 1: Thanks Chris.
- 26:34Speaker 2: Let's now get an Iranian Australian perspective on the weekend's events.
- 26:38Speaker 2: And I'm joined on the desk by doctor Saba Vsefi,
- 26:41Speaker 2: who's an Iranian Australian academic with the Sydney University. Good
- 26:44Speaker 2: to speak to you again, Saba. We're going to talk
- 26:46Speaker 2: to you about some of these issues anyway. But it
- 26:49Speaker 2: turns out that over the weekend it looks like the
- 26:52Speaker 2: regime is close to falling.
- 26:54Speaker 1: Certainly the Ayah Toola is dead.
- 26:56Speaker 13: What's your reaction when I was elated like million Iranians
- 27:01Speaker 13: and to see chief sponsor of terror is eliminated. And
- 27:08Speaker 13: I think when a serial killer cannot be restrained, I
- 27:14Speaker 13: think elimination is one element that we can prevent further
- 27:22Speaker 13: murder and killing, like what the Australian police did in
- 27:25Speaker 13: Bondai Beach when they killed the terrorists. So I celebrated,
- 27:30Speaker 13: and I think this is a legitimate right for Iranians
- 27:35Speaker 13: who have been persecuted for over decades to celebrate the
- 27:39Speaker 13: butcher of Iranians. And something which is critical in the
- 27:47Speaker 13: vest that is more and more become visible these days
- 27:51Speaker 13: is there are some groups and entities that they are
- 27:57Speaker 13: using strategies like what the regime was using in order
- 28:01Speaker 13: to silence to silent Iranians. Sometimes they use their stigma
- 28:08Speaker 13: of Islamophobia to Iranians in order to silence them. While
- 28:16Speaker 13: Iran is very diverse country with different religious different belief
- 28:23Speaker 13: and I think they brush the reality under the carpet
- 28:27Speaker 13: and sometimes they are pasteurizing the reality rather than calling
- 28:31Speaker 13: the real name. What is happening in Iran is the
- 28:36Speaker 13: impact and consequence of radical Islamist Islamism and fundamentalism, and
- 28:42Speaker 13: fundamentalism in any foreman shape is destructive and dangerous.
- 28:47Speaker 2: You live in fear of the Iranian regime here in Australia.
- 28:51Speaker 2: I don't want to go into too much detail, but
- 28:53Speaker 2: I know that our security agencies.
- 28:55Speaker 1: Help you protect yourself here.
- 28:58Speaker 2: Do you hope that in coming days and weeks that
- 29:02Speaker 2: load will be lifted from your shoulders?
- 29:05Speaker 13: I think despite the cuture of Iranians or is eliminated. However,
- 29:13Speaker 13: IRGC is out there. We need global solidarity to decapitate them.
- 29:20Speaker 13: And I think, for example, Australia has had the opportunity
- 29:24Speaker 13: as your assessment showed that the IRGC and Iranian ambassador
- 29:31Speaker 13: in Australia had some kind of involvement in terrorist attack
- 29:35Speaker 13: and Australian domestic law had that sort of opportunity to
- 29:40Speaker 13: prosecute them.
- 29:41Speaker 1: They there's been no prosecution, prosecution.
- 29:44Speaker 13: Now they can, they have the ability to call their
- 29:48Speaker 13: allies to demand the release of all the prisoner they.
- 29:52Speaker 1: How to go to that.
- 29:53Speaker 2: We haven't got much time, but one of the cases
- 29:56Speaker 2: we were going to talk to you about today, before
- 29:58Speaker 2: we knew that war would break out on the weekend.
- 30:01Speaker 9: With some of the.
- 30:01Speaker 2: Protesters in jail in around now facing what you say
- 30:05Speaker 2: are trumped up charges possible death penalties, you must be
- 30:09Speaker 2: hoping now that if the regime could fall in coming days,
- 30:13Speaker 2: those people will be set free and not have to
- 30:15Speaker 2: face that kangaroo court.
- 30:18Speaker 13: Yeah, but as I said, still there are funded, IOGC
- 30:23Speaker 13: is funded and the regime is armed, so we need
- 30:27Speaker 13: to decapitate that IO.
- 30:29Speaker 1: You think it will fall in.
- 30:30Speaker 2: You say you're not very optimistic about the regime falling
- 30:34Speaker 2: in coming days.
- 30:35Speaker 1: Some people tell us that it's a fad of complete.
- 30:38Speaker 13: Yeah, it's a process. I don't think so. It happened abruptly.
- 30:43Speaker 13: We need more work and we need global solidarity to
- 30:47Speaker 13: demand that sort of decapitation of IOGC. Yeah, and this
- 30:52Speaker 13: is not the solution that these groups, and these groups
- 30:56Speaker 13: in the vest I think they are trying to exploited
- 31:00Speaker 13: the Iranian Iranian struggle for their ideological and political advantages
- 31:06Speaker 13: in order to rather than speaking up about the extremination
- 31:11Speaker 13: of over thirty thousand innocent, unarmed people, including children. And
- 31:19Speaker 13: the fact is at the moment there are children on
- 31:22Speaker 13: this throw as a result of their contribution to the protest.
- 31:27Speaker 1: But according to.
- 31:28Speaker 2: The death Row now maybe hearing the bombs coming down
- 31:31Speaker 2: and hoping that it could signal freedom for them soon.
- 31:34Speaker 1: And I'm gonna have to leave it there. Sorry.
- 31:37Speaker 2: Well, I'll try and have you back in coming days
- 31:39Speaker 2: as we see events unfold.
- 31:40Speaker 1: I really appreciate it.
- 31:41Speaker 2: Saber Vasefi there from Sydney University. We'll try and catch
- 31:44Speaker 2: up with her again later in the week. We're going
- 31:46Speaker 2: to get to Israel after this break and get the
- 31:48Speaker 2: latest from there.
- 31:49Speaker 1: Don't go away.
- 31:56Speaker 2: Let's cross the Israel now and catch up again with
- 31:58Speaker 2: Gerald Steinberg, Professor of politics at bar Ilan University.
- 32:02Speaker 1: Good to talk to you again. Gerald.
- 32:04Speaker 2: We've been talking about the threat of Iran for so long.
- 32:07Speaker 2: Nine people killed in Israel yesterday your time. That's a
- 32:11Speaker 2: heavy toll. What is the feeling in Israel at the moment?
- 32:15Speaker 2: Is this, in a sense the war that it's been
- 32:19Speaker 2: waiting for, attacking the central threat in the region, which
- 32:23Speaker 2: has been skirted around for so long.
- 32:27Speaker 14: This has been now we've been at war consistently since
- 32:30Speaker 14: October seventh with the massacres that came from Gaza, from Kamas,
- 32:34Speaker 14: but it was Iran that was behind it. Iran was
- 32:36Speaker 14: braining the weapons, the training, a lot of the propaganda
- 32:38Speaker 14: that was behind that. And then we Hadribala in Lebanon.
- 32:42Speaker 14: We reached a ceasefire with them about over a year ago,
- 32:46Speaker 14: but they still had many of the weapons, and of
- 32:48Speaker 14: course we had these great international pledges of s Lebanese government.
- 32:52Speaker 14: They would just arm Rizbala and Iran as the master
- 32:56Speaker 14: puppet or the puppet master rather of this entire process Iran,
- 33:00Speaker 14: we had a twelve day war with them, but again
- 33:02Speaker 14: it seas fire before the job was done. So I
- 33:04Speaker 14: think almost all Israelis knew that this was going to
- 33:07Speaker 14: be a second round. It was then worked together with
- 33:10Speaker 14: the United States. That's something that's unique. We've never seen
- 33:13Speaker 14: that that type of cooperation before. And this hopefully will
- 33:17Speaker 14: be the final round in terms of disarming the Iranian
- 33:21Speaker 14: the entire Uranian machine that has been pledged not only
- 33:25Speaker 14: to destroy Israel but also against the Great State in
- 33:27Speaker 14: the United States and all Western Democratic countries. Yes, he's
- 33:31Speaker 14: really publics been waiting.
- 33:32Speaker 2: For Ivan, not the id IF recommenced actions in southern
- 33:37Speaker 2: Lebanon against his Palla, trying to take out those remaining weapons,
- 33:40Speaker 2: of course, but let's turn out attention back to Iran itself.
- 33:44Speaker 2: Here's something of what the President Donald Trump said yesterday.
- 33:48Speaker 3: Last night, all over Iran, the voices of the Iranian
- 33:53Speaker 3: people could be heard cheering and celebrating in the streets
- 33:57Speaker 3: when his death was announced. The entire military command is
- 34:03Speaker 3: gone as well, and many of them want to surrender
- 34:07Speaker 3: into saving their lives. They want immunity.
- 34:11Speaker 5: They're calling by the thousands.
- 34:14Speaker 1: Yes, this would be the great hype of the US.
- 34:17Speaker 2: Is there any evidence, Professor, to suggest that Iranian military
- 34:22Speaker 2: are defecting, that, in effect, the regime could collapse.
- 34:27Speaker 14: The second part is easier. It's possible if the regime
- 34:29Speaker 14: could collapse, there would be some sort of a takeover.
- 34:33Speaker 14: We don't know from where. It might be people in
- 34:35Speaker 14: the military that understand that Iran is being devastated every day.
- 34:39Speaker 14: As far as large numbers of people asking for all
- 34:43Speaker 14: for be able to surrender and get some sort of
- 34:48Speaker 14: support to the United States, I think that there may
- 34:50Speaker 14: be few of those. There's no external evidence Iran, the
- 34:53Speaker 14: Iranian capabilities of the regime is still firing deadly weapons
- 34:57Speaker 14: against Israel. You mentioned we have a deadly attack yesterday.
- 35:01Speaker 14: At least nine people were killed. There were attacks again
- 35:04Speaker 14: this morning, not long ago. They're using cluster munitions in
- 35:07Speaker 14: their missiles. It's very likely that these were all prepared
- 35:10Speaker 14: before the death of Kamini, before the attacks that began
- 35:15Speaker 14: on Saturday morning local time. But they are still ongoing.
- 35:19Speaker 14: Those have to be stopped, those have to be disarmed
- 35:22Speaker 14: those weapons. That's going to be a long process. It's
- 35:24Speaker 14: not a complicated process. We don't know what type of
- 35:27Speaker 14: government may take over and that's the key issue. Is
- 35:30Speaker 14: there going to be a successor government that's not going
- 35:32Speaker 14: to call itself the Islamic Republic and try to impose
- 35:36Speaker 14: its version of terror across the world.
- 35:39Speaker 1: That is the key questioning To take down these weapons,
- 35:41Speaker 1: that is the key question. Day. Thanks for joining us again, Jared.
- 35:44Speaker 2: I appreciate Professor Gerald Steinberg there from the Bailin University.
- 35:48Speaker 1: We're got to get to a break.
- 35:49Speaker 2: On the other side of that, we're catching up with
- 35:51Speaker 2: British Iritian attorney and advocate Eleka lebon to find out
- 35:55Speaker 2: how the news has been received in the un US.
- 36:06Speaker 2: The Iranian diaspora has been crucial in raising awareness about
- 36:10Speaker 2: what's going on in their home country. One prominent member
- 36:13Speaker 2: is Eleka lebon Us, attorney and advocate who we've caught
- 36:18Speaker 2: up with before. I spoke to her in Elai today
- 36:21Speaker 2: and asked her about her reaction to the weekends military
- 36:24Speaker 2: action and the killing of the Supreme Leader.
- 36:28Speaker 10: I mean, it's still surreal. It's still hard to, you know,
- 36:31Speaker 10: metabolize everything that's gone on the extent of it, especially
- 36:34Speaker 10: while it's still in the process of happening. You know,
- 36:36Speaker 10: we heard about the news of the elimination of the
- 36:39Speaker 10: top IRGC officials, of the Supreme Leader, basically the slow
- 36:43Speaker 10: dismantling of the apparatus that has been oppressing the Iranian
- 36:47Speaker 10: people for the past forty seven years. I think we
- 36:50Speaker 10: can firmly say, from myself and everybody else that I've
- 36:53Speaker 10: spoken to, that this is by far the most hopeful
- 36:55Speaker 10: that we've ever been. And I think this at this point,
- 36:58Speaker 10: we aren't just treating this as optim anymore. We aren't
- 37:01Speaker 10: just treating this as you know, fingers crossed. Hopefully one day.
- 37:04Speaker 10: I think we are in the home stretch of the
- 37:06Speaker 10: final destruction and dismantling of the IRGC. So that's pretty
- 37:11Speaker 10: much where most of us are. We just have to
- 37:14Speaker 10: wait for this to unfold and hope that it, you know,
- 37:17Speaker 10: this war ends as quickly and swiftly and safely as possible.
- 37:21Speaker 2: Well, the military strikes from the US and Israel are continuing,
- 37:25Speaker 2: but it's very clear that the US president wants to
- 37:28Speaker 2: see regime change and he's calling on the Iranian people.
- 37:32Speaker 1: To deliver that.
- 37:33Speaker 2: In fact, the US managed to hack into Iranian television
- 37:37Speaker 2: so that some of the President's broadcast was broadcast in
- 37:42Speaker 2: Iran with subtitles have a look.
- 37:45Speaker 5: America is backing you with overwhelming strength and devastating for us.
- 37:50Speaker 5: Now is the time to seize control of your destiny
- 37:53Speaker 5: and to unleash the prosperous and glorious future that is
- 37:57Speaker 5: close within your reach for action.
- 38:02Speaker 2: It's incredible to think, Eleka, that millions of Iranians may
- 38:05Speaker 2: have seen that.
- 38:06Speaker 1: But we've seen many people out on the streets in Iran.
- 38:09Speaker 2: What do you expect these happening and will happen in
- 38:12Speaker 2: coming days?
- 38:14Speaker 10: Well, you know, I think people will absolutely be heeding
- 38:16Speaker 10: that message from President Trump. They did so the first
- 38:19Speaker 10: time when he said, you know, go out into the streets,
- 38:21Speaker 10: take over your institutions. They listened, they went out, And
- 38:25Speaker 10: now I think there is a definite, acute awareness of
- 38:28Speaker 10: the fact that this really is a time like no other.
- 38:30Speaker 10: President Trump did say this in his speech. He said
- 38:33Speaker 10: this is the I didn't say this is the last time,
- 38:35Speaker 10: but he said, this is the best chance that you
- 38:37Speaker 10: are ever going to get to free yourselves from this regime.
- 38:40Speaker 10: And it's a small window in time. If we miss it,
- 38:43Speaker 10: it's gone. I think the Iranian people are absolutely aware
- 38:46Speaker 10: of that fact, and I think that they feel the
- 38:48Speaker 10: responsibility and power of that fact. And I think as
- 38:52Speaker 10: these strikes continue, and as this regime gets weaker, and
- 38:55Speaker 10: as the forces, the ILGC forces begin to defect to
- 39:00Speaker 10: the other side, you're going to see the people coming
- 39:02Speaker 10: out into the streets. And not only will they be
- 39:04Speaker 10: coming out into the streets, they will be now be armed.
- 39:07Speaker 10: They will now be protected with the forces that are
- 39:09Speaker 10: now walking alongside them. And if you remember in nineteen
- 39:13Speaker 10: seventy nine, that was the same method that that revolution,
- 39:17Speaker 10: or shall we say a coup was succeeded. There was
- 39:20Speaker 10: a defection. The army did walk alongside the Iranian people,
- 39:24Speaker 10: and that brought them to that regime change.
- 39:27Speaker 1: At the time, it's hard to.
- 39:29Speaker 2: Know exactly what is going on in the streets and
- 39:31Speaker 2: what information is verified and what is not, But there
- 39:34Speaker 2: are certainly reports that IRGC troops have been firing on
- 39:38Speaker 2: some of the crowds celebrating.
- 39:41Speaker 1: What are you hearing from your contacts in Iran?
- 39:44Speaker 2: And do you think that the protest will be strong
- 39:47Speaker 2: enough to overwhelm that sort of those sort of efforts
- 39:51Speaker 2: by the remnants of the regime to maintain control.
- 39:55Speaker 10: Yeah, I do, because I think at the stage where
- 39:57Speaker 10: the regime is at its weakness, it isn't going to
- 39:59Speaker 10: have the apparatus and methodology that it had to crush
- 40:02Speaker 10: the protesters as it did in January. You know, it's
- 40:06Speaker 10: important to understand that before this war broke out over
- 40:10Speaker 10: the weekend, there's been a long strategy within the IRGC's
- 40:14Speaker 10: ranks of what would happen if the war inevitably broke out.
- 40:17Speaker 10: There were conversations pertaining to the propaganda warfare. In terms
- 40:22Speaker 10: of Western media, it was long discussed that as soon
- 40:25Speaker 10: as there were any strikes they were going to After
- 40:30Speaker 10: the protesters were killed in January, family members told us
- 40:33Speaker 10: that they retained the bodies, and they didn't return those bodies.
- 40:36Speaker 10: They retained them so that they could repurpose them in
- 40:39Speaker 10: the event of a war and claim those victims as
- 40:42Speaker 10: casualties of US and Israeli strikes. So this has been
- 40:46Speaker 10: a long, long standing pattern. If they are shooting protesters now,
- 40:51Speaker 10: just as they shot protesters in the past, those corpses
- 40:55Speaker 10: in a very chilling and dystopian way, will be used
- 40:59Speaker 10: as proof of casualties of Israel and the US. And unfortunately,
- 41:03Speaker 10: we have seen just how quickly Western media regurgitates the
- 41:07Speaker 10: Islamis propaganda as fact. Just today, it has been regurgitating
- 41:13Speaker 10: the regime statement that the US Israeli forces struck a
- 41:17Speaker 10: school in Iran. Now, although we don't yet know whether
- 41:21Speaker 10: that was an IRGC missile or a US Israeli missile,
- 41:25Speaker 10: we have a strong suspicion that it was in fact
- 41:28Speaker 10: an IRGC missile. Why because it's sloppy, it's messy, it's careless,
- 41:31Speaker 10: it's indiscriminate. We know that the US and Israel are
- 41:35Speaker 10: extremely surgical, are extremely precise, and this is a deja
- 41:39Speaker 10: vus of when her Maas's rocket backfired onto the hospital
- 41:43Speaker 10: and the Western media immediately said that this was an
- 41:46Speaker 10: Israeli strike. So in the coming days, we're also going
- 41:48Speaker 10: to need to keep a keen eye on Western media
- 41:53Speaker 10: regurgitating this regime's propaganda, and it needs to be taken
- 41:56Speaker 10: as seriously as North Korea and as nineteen eighty four.
- 42:00Speaker 2: You are right, you are so right, and those examples
- 42:03Speaker 2: are spot on, and I've had a bit to say
- 42:05Speaker 2: about that at the top of the program. Just in closing, ELK,
- 42:08Speaker 2: I want to talk about regime change and whether it
- 42:12Speaker 2: can be successful, and whether Iran can be run successfully again.
- 42:16Speaker 2: People have seen this sort of thing happened in the
- 42:18Speaker 2: past and go to custard to use an expression. But
- 42:22Speaker 2: Iran is a highly sophisticated country with a highly educated population.
- 42:27Speaker 2: I've been to Tehran, I've seen this myself, so there
- 42:30Speaker 2: must be a lot of optimism about how a new
- 42:32Speaker 2: regime can be put in place. And I want to
- 42:34Speaker 2: get your thoughts also on the role of the diaspora
- 42:38Speaker 2: in that Iranians like yourselves, with expertise and money around
- 42:42Speaker 2: the globe would be looking to play a role presumably.
- 42:45Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 42:46Speaker 10: I mean, not only is it a sophisticated and educated
- 42:49Speaker 10: population with an iiron itself, but you have to remember
- 42:52Speaker 10: it's also a highly politically mobilized population. That is the
- 42:57Speaker 10: difference between Iran and Iraq, whos saying actually made it
- 43:01Speaker 10: impossible for them to be politically mobilized at the time.
- 43:04Speaker 10: But anyway, the point is they are mobilized, and we
- 43:07Speaker 10: have a transitional leader who is the Crown Prince where Azapahlavi,
- 43:11Speaker 10: and as we've seen the people in Iran overwhelmingly calling
- 43:14Speaker 10: his name to invite him in as that transitional leader,
- 43:17Speaker 10: and then when he comes in, that will be the
- 43:20Speaker 10: time where you know, the constitution will be written, the
- 43:22Speaker 10: constitution will be ratified, It will detail will outline if
- 43:27Speaker 10: the people choose a constitutional monarchy, what will be the
- 43:30Speaker 10: limitations and the constraints of that monarchy, or will they
- 43:33Speaker 10: choose a liberal democracy with no monarch at all. The
- 43:37Speaker 10: point is that the Crown Prince is ready with a
- 43:40Speaker 10: plan that will institute democracy, and at that point it
- 43:44Speaker 10: will be exactly what we've been calling for this entire time.
- 43:47Speaker 10: The people themselves will be able to vote their leaders
- 43:51Speaker 10: in power and those leaders. You know, we from the
- 43:54Speaker 10: diaspora can't say what that will look like because we,
- 43:57Speaker 10: unfortunately haven't been able to be privy to exactly the
- 44:00Speaker 10: sentiments of the Iranian population who have been living in
- 44:04Speaker 10: extreme suppression for the past forty seven years. So once
- 44:07Speaker 10: this transitional leader, the Crown Prince gets to Iran and
- 44:10Speaker 10: institutes this apparatus of a transitional facilitates the transitional transition
- 44:18Speaker 10: into liberal democracy. That is when we are going to
- 44:21Speaker 10: discover for the first time who it is that the
- 44:24Speaker 10: Iranian people choose to represent for them, whether it's the
- 44:27Speaker 10: Crown Prince as a constitutional monarch or a liberal secular
- 44:31Speaker 10: democracy with some type of prime minister at the head
- 44:35Speaker 10: of it.
- 44:35Speaker 2: Yeah, Michaelabon, thanks so much for talking to us at
- 44:38Speaker 2: this tumultuous time.
- 44:40Speaker 10: Thank you so much.
- 44:42Speaker 1: Okay, we're going to get to a break.
- 44:44Speaker 2: On the other side, Carolinda or So and Jim Aton Yini,
- 44:46Speaker 2: we'll talk about a few things.
- 44:48Speaker 1: But it's thirty years today since John Howard was elected.
- 44:57Speaker 2: Let's bring in Jim and Toon Yini from GT Communications
- 44:59Speaker 2: on desk here with me as ever light weekend UET
- 45:03Speaker 2: weekend Caroline, who also joins us, per very quickly your
- 45:06Speaker 2: thoughts on what we've seen transpire over the weekend.
- 45:09Speaker 8: I have hope for the Iranian people. I am so
- 45:11Speaker 8: dismayed that there's still a cohort mainly on the political
- 45:14Speaker 8: left here in Australia and elsewhere, who are so full
- 45:18Speaker 8: of hatred for the liberators that they would deny liberation
- 45:21Speaker 8: to millions and millions of people. You can't have freedom
- 45:24Speaker 8: because I don't like the people who are free.
- 45:26Speaker 2: They don't like Donald Trump or Benjamin Netanyahu. So therefore
- 45:29Speaker 2: people should live under the yoke of this ISLAMUS regime.
- 45:32Speaker 2: Women in particular, it's just extraordinary.
- 45:34Speaker 8: I could go on, but I won't because we are
- 45:35Speaker 8: short of time.
- 45:37Speaker 2: To you, Caroline, we can show you some pictures here
- 45:39Speaker 2: of a US fighter jet that's come down off Kuwait.
- 45:43Speaker 2: We don't know much detail about it, but you can
- 45:45Speaker 2: see here where the pilot ejects it perhaps has taken
- 45:49Speaker 2: a hit from missiles in the area.
- 45:51Speaker 1: But Caroline, that just reminds us that this was it's
- 45:55Speaker 1: not over in a flash. In fact, Donald Trump's talked
- 45:57Speaker 1: about this going on for up to four weeks.
- 46:01Speaker 15: No, it's not over in a flash, and it's not
- 46:04Speaker 15: a game. You know, we saw at the very beginning
- 46:06Speaker 15: of last month the US and that almost surgical movement
- 46:10Speaker 15: in Venezuela. This is a very very different creature that
- 46:13Speaker 15: we're dealing with here, and there's lots of moving parts,
- 46:16Speaker 15: and there is a very very angry regime who is
- 46:20Speaker 15: not only taking its aggression out on the US and Israel,
- 46:24Speaker 15: but is just spraying missiles across the whole golf and
- 46:27Speaker 15: they've been hitting Cyprus and Katar and other parts of
- 46:32Speaker 15: the Middle East. So when you have that sort of
- 46:36Speaker 15: irrational type behavior, it becomes very dangerous for civilians and
- 46:41Speaker 15: that sort of thing, and we have seen civilian carnage
- 46:43Speaker 15: out of that. So look I understand that at this point.
- 46:47Speaker 15: My understanding is that there's three US servicemen that have
- 46:51Speaker 15: been lost. There's been some civilian casualties, but you know,
- 46:55Speaker 15: depending on how everyone chooses to behave going forward over
- 46:58Speaker 15: like you said, the next four weeks, there unfortunately could.
- 47:01Speaker 2: Be more of that. Let's let's go to Rita Panahy,
- 47:05Speaker 2: our own Persian princess. And this is a really telling
- 47:08Speaker 2: contribution from her on outside is yesterday, and.
- 47:12Speaker 16: I just want to conclude this editorial with this message
- 47:15Speaker 16: to the late Supreme Leader Pid sag Hockpa sadded vessels
- 47:23Speaker 16: to Jahanna.
- 47:25Speaker 1: Yeah, Jim, and that means you son of a bit,
- 47:27Speaker 1: Shame on you.
- 47:28Speaker 2: Burning Hill addressed to the Aatola now reader's emblematic of
- 47:32Speaker 2: what's at stake here. She grew up as a girl
- 47:34Speaker 2: that had to wear the veiled death to America. I've
- 47:37Speaker 2: been to Teyran, see all these posters. It's good to
- 47:40Speaker 2: see it all.
- 47:40Speaker 1: How has I felt so happy for her?
- 47:42Speaker 8: And I was saying to a colleague, a former colleague
- 47:45Speaker 8: who you know Molly Smith as well? Today and imagine
- 47:47Speaker 8: one day Rider being able to take her child to
- 47:49Speaker 8: a free Iran. Wouldn't that just be incredible. I just
- 47:54Speaker 8: and again as a woman, sort of like a reluctant feminist.
- 47:56Speaker 8: But if you stop and clinically look at how women
- 47:58Speaker 8: in particular. I know men have been dealt a very
- 48:01Speaker 8: poor hand there as well, But if you look at women,
- 48:03Speaker 8: you don't travel unless your husband or your father gives
- 48:06Speaker 8: you permission to travel.
- 48:07Speaker 1: Ditto work.
- 48:08Speaker 8: Child marriage is legal, all of this stuff. Sixteen year
- 48:11Speaker 8: old rape victim was executed for having been raped. I mean,
- 48:15Speaker 8: there are hundreds of thousands of these stories. And yet
- 48:18Speaker 8: people in this country who call themselves political elite or whatever,
- 48:22Speaker 8: or the elite of academia, are shilling for this idea.
- 48:26Speaker 1: They call themselves human rights activity.
- 48:28Speaker 8: And they are nothing of the sort.
- 48:30Speaker 1: Shocking.
- 48:30Speaker 2: Let us go back to a great memory thirty years
- 48:34Speaker 2: ago today, how time flies when you're having fun.
- 48:38Speaker 1: John Howard was elected Prime Minister. Have a look.
- 48:41Speaker 17: My first words are addressed to all of the people
- 48:44Speaker 17: of Australia. But I am very conscious of the enormous
- 48:51Speaker 17: responsibility that has been placed upon me and upon my
- 48:55Speaker 17: colleagues by the verdicte of the Australian people.
- 48:58Speaker 2: Today, and so began a gold Mira. We're nearly out
- 49:06Speaker 2: of time ten seconds each. Shall start with you, Caroline.
- 49:09Speaker 2: I'm just how good that government was.
- 49:11Speaker 1: It looks better given everything we've seen since. Too so good.
- 49:17Speaker 15: And I was too young to vote back then, but
- 49:19Speaker 15: I do remember watching that on Channel two and come back,
- 49:24Speaker 15: so your country.
- 49:24Speaker 1: Needs you coming back.
- 49:28Speaker 2: I'm homeing to talk to him next week because of
- 49:29Speaker 2: the wonderful documentary Chris Yillman's put together.
- 49:32Speaker 1: Thanks for joining us, Jimmy and Caroline.
- 49:34Speaker 2: Yes, I was old enough to vote at that time,
- 49:37Speaker 2: and I was lucky enough to work with the Howard
- 49:39Speaker 2: government for.
- 49:39Speaker 1: The second half of it. It was a mighty fine
- 49:42Speaker 1: government at the time, and it looks even better now.
- 49:44Speaker 1: Here's Peter Kredlin.
