Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Jevin Gray is our UK and europe correspondence. A radical
- 0:03Speaker 1: preacher has been found guilty under UK Tyrrah laws. Given.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Yeah, that's right, Ryan. Now, the name and jam Chowdhry
- 0:11Speaker 2: might not be well known to many people, but it
- 0:15Speaker 2: is well known in the UK, and that is because
- 0:18Speaker 2: he is a man who's continually gone very close, sailing
- 0:21Speaker 2: to the wind, very close when it comes to supporting
- 0:24Speaker 2: Islamic state and supporting Islamic terrorism. At least that's what
- 0:28Speaker 2: his opponents say. Today, he's been found guilty of directing
- 0:33Speaker 2: a group banned under UK terror laws and also encouraging
- 0:37Speaker 2: support for it online. The group is called al Mahahadji
- 0:41Speaker 2: Ruhn and it's said to be something that he'd founded
- 0:45Speaker 2: and now he faces life in prison for that. The
- 0:48Speaker 2: group is effectively someone that has been linked to all
- 0:52Speaker 2: sorts of different action here in the UK. Three attackers
- 0:56Speaker 2: that kured eight people at London Bridge in twenty seventeen
- 0:59Speaker 2: were led by a former member of the group. The
- 1:01Speaker 2: murder of five people at Westminster Bridge earlier that year
- 1:04Speaker 2: was by a man who'd spent years associating with the group,
- 1:08Speaker 2: and another member killed two people at London's Fishmongers Hall
- 1:11Speaker 2: back in twenty nineteen. So the police say this group
- 1:14Speaker 2: has a clear linked terrorist attacks, and they believe as
- 1:17Speaker 2: well and have now proven it in a court of law.
- 1:19Speaker 2: And Jem Chowdry has a clear link and is a member.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Of it, all right, Kevin the very quickly. The Hungary
- 1:26Speaker 1: has kind of got itself on a spot of bother
- 1:28Speaker 1: with the European Union.
- 1:30Speaker 2: Yes, shrugging it off though so of course, the European
- 1:33Speaker 2: Union presidency is on a rotation among the members of
- 1:38Speaker 2: the EU. It's Hungary's turn, and Hungary has really led
- 1:41Speaker 2: the way in completely disagreeing with EU policy when it
- 1:44Speaker 2: comes to Ukraine and Russia. The Prime Minister Victor Auban
- 1:48Speaker 2: is currently holding that EU presidency and yet on an
- 1:52Speaker 2: unofficial meeting went to meet President Putin and also has
- 1:55Speaker 2: in the past said that the EU kind of provoked
- 1:58Speaker 2: the war in Ukraine. Anyway, he's now been wrapped on
- 2:02Speaker 2: the knuckles, but it's a very small rap. He was
- 2:05Speaker 2: due to host the EU Foreign and Defense ministers in
- 2:08Speaker 2: formal meetings which take place every six month. It was
- 2:11Speaker 2: going to take place in Hungry. It's now not and
- 2:14Speaker 2: Hungry won't be holding the chair post either that's going
- 2:18Speaker 2: to be given to another country. It all sounds very
- 2:20Speaker 2: small beer and indeed Hungry's described the move as completely childish,
- 2:24Speaker 2: but it certainly shows just how fed up the EU
- 2:28Speaker 2: is with the Hungarian presidency so far.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Kevin, thank you for that. Kevin Gray, UK europe Correspondent
- 2:34Speaker 1: with US this morning.
