- 0:21Speaker 1: Hey, what's up everybody? Welcome back. We are here live
- 0:26Speaker 1: and in living color. I say that because we're not
- 0:29Speaker 1: a black and white TV show, but we are on
- 0:32Speaker 1: the Lanai.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Did you want to keep eating your bagel podcast? I
- 0:38Speaker 2: put it down.
- 0:39Speaker 1: It was that last little piece of cheese.
- 0:43Speaker 2: I wanted to go, going, going, god bye.
- 0:45Speaker 1: We'll do it again, but I'll never do it as
- 0:47Speaker 1: well as I did it that last time.
- 0:49Speaker 3: No, keep going, it is perfect.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Fine. Hey, morning fuckers, morning, welcome, Welcome, We have a
- 0:56Speaker 1: very nice We have a guest. Yeah, we have our
- 1:00Speaker 1: first guest and by the way, we'll probably be our
- 1:03Speaker 1: frequent visitor if I'm honesty, the one and only Karen Fang. Hi, guys,
- 1:11Speaker 1: I should have we should have done it's oh wow,
- 1:20Speaker 1: I thought it didn't. Oh Andy, Yes, and our producer's
- 1:26Speaker 1: birthday is tomorrow, so Hannah came because it's it's a
- 1:30Speaker 1: dogy's birthday. It's right. I still have bagel in my mouth.
- 1:35Speaker 1: It's just begel's made out of like those birthday candles
- 1:39Speaker 1: that won't blow out, it's the bagel that won't chew.
- 1:42Speaker 2: Just leave it never ye.
- 1:50Speaker 1: Yeah, you guys welcome.
- 1:53Speaker 3: No idea what you're singing.
- 1:54Speaker 1: This is a song that never Lamb Chop.
- 1:58Speaker 2: Did you never see that?
- 2:00Speaker 3: No? I didn't watch Lamb Chop.
- 2:02Speaker 1: Oh, oh it hurt you.
- 2:04Speaker 2: We'll have to educate her my brother. Wow, that got trauma. Sorry,
- 2:13Speaker 2: there's how does that make you feel?
- 2:15Speaker 3: Therapy has been heavy?
- 2:18Speaker 1: No, it's true. We have. We've talked a little bit
- 2:20Speaker 1: about your childhood drama, and I apologize for bringing what up.
- 2:25Speaker 1: I have trauma from my brother from another mother, but
- 2:28Speaker 1: it's not as extreme. For years, my brother Pierce thought
- 2:32Speaker 1: it would be very funny to lie about his birthday
- 2:34Speaker 1: on Facebook so that he would know who to unfriend
- 2:38Speaker 1: every year because they didn't know his real birthday. And this, truthfully,
- 2:42Speaker 1: I think this was around even back when my Space
- 2:45Speaker 1: was the only And so yesterday when I wished my
- 2:48Speaker 1: brother a happy birthday, terror filled my body and I
- 2:52Speaker 1: was like, fuck, is this the real date or the
- 2:54Speaker 1: fake date? What is in my iPhone? Because he has
- 2:58Speaker 1: since become an adult and so his Facebook has his
- 3:01Speaker 1: real birthday. But when I saw that Facebook said it
- 3:03Speaker 1: was his birthday, for a minute, I was filled with
- 3:06Speaker 1: terror that I would be unfriended because I had texted
- 3:09Speaker 1: him on the wrong day. But he was like, thank
- 3:11Speaker 1: you so much, and I said, you know, I'm gonna
- 3:13Speaker 1: have drama for the rest of my life because of
- 3:15Speaker 1: your stupid birthday prank in your twenties, you dick.
- 3:19Speaker 3: Does he still do it?
- 3:20Speaker 1: No? He finally No, he finally changed it back. But
- 3:24Speaker 1: now he is is his birthday as a day to
- 3:26Speaker 1: remind him who he doesn't like anymore. So he still
- 3:29Speaker 1: uses his birthday to unfriend, but it's more like, oh,
- 3:32Speaker 1: did you say like eighty six rude things over the
- 3:36Speaker 1: year about someone I care about or something, and now
- 3:39Speaker 1: you've wished me a happy birthday? Bye? Like it's his
- 3:42Speaker 1: reminder who he doesn't like. That's still his friend.
- 3:45Speaker 3: No makes sense. I used to do that when I
- 3:47Speaker 3: was dating.
- 3:48Speaker 1: Happy birthday, I hate you, that's what we're gonna call that.
- 3:53Speaker 1: That's a lot of Yeah, I just I would just
- 3:56Speaker 1: take men ice skating and see how horror bad they
- 4:01Speaker 1: would look, And if they looked not completely horrible, I
- 4:05Speaker 1: would go on a second date with him.
- 4:08Speaker 3: But those who couldn't skate nothing really.
- 4:12Speaker 1: But there's a guy in tender that might earn a
- 4:14Speaker 1: first date with me because he asked me when he
- 4:17Speaker 1: wanted to know what my podcasts were and I'm like,
- 4:20Speaker 1: I've started not saying how many I actually have because
- 4:23Speaker 1: they're not all super active, and I just don't want
- 4:25Speaker 1: to explain them all. And so I said, oh, I
- 4:28Speaker 1: was Golden Girls one, and then I won a couple others,
- 4:32Speaker 1: and he said, oh, how do you feel about Golden Palace?
- 4:36Speaker 1: And we had like a fucking Golden Palace conversation. Wow, Like,
- 4:41Speaker 1: I think this guy earned a date because he's up
- 4:43Speaker 1: on his like eighty ninety yeah, ticking boxes, sir Jason.
- 4:51Speaker 3: He's got his finger on the poles.
- 4:54Speaker 4: I've actually been surprised how many guys are Golden Girls
- 4:57Speaker 4: fans out there?
- 4:58Speaker 3: Oh?
- 4:58Speaker 5: Many?
- 4:59Speaker 2: Yeah, it's good show.
- 5:01Speaker 1: Our buddies at bfy tw are literally like desperate to
- 5:06Speaker 1: get on the show. And we were like, now we've
- 5:08Speaker 1: got our first guest and probably a frequent guest, so
- 5:12Speaker 1: try to await your turn. Buddy.
- 5:14Speaker 3: Hey, speaking of this guest, we want to talk a
- 5:17Speaker 3: little bit more about it.
- 5:18Speaker 5: Yeah, please tell us about from Pasadena this week or yesterday,
- 5:23Speaker 5: we went to to the Rose Bowl and I got
- 5:27Speaker 5: to see a bunch of friends that I've been friends
- 5:29Speaker 5: with for thirty years. As my friend Eric likes to say,
- 5:33Speaker 5: I have known them longer than I haven't, So it
- 5:36Speaker 5: was just a super fun time. Yeah, seeing all the friends.
- 5:39Speaker 5: Our team loss, but it you know, it didn't really
- 5:41Speaker 5: matter that much because it was just a really lovely
- 5:43Speaker 5: time reminiscing with people that I've known forever. Just good peeps.
- 5:48Speaker 1: Now, can you tell me about the flavor flame sized
- 5:51Speaker 1: medallion you were wearing please?
- 5:53Speaker 3: Oh oh yeah, it was like Marty Grass.
- 5:56Speaker 5: But yeah, so my friend, my friend Brian is the
- 6:00Speaker 5: party tailgate champion of the world. You know, he's always
- 6:05Speaker 5: got some kind of gimmick going on. So he and
- 6:08Speaker 5: his wife had ordered these giant plastic gold chain necklaces
- 6:13Speaker 5: that had a giant hawkeye.
- 6:15Speaker 3: Oh wow.
- 6:18Speaker 5: And so yeah, he brings things like that to the
- 6:20Speaker 5: tailgates just you know, just so that people know, you know,
- 6:24Speaker 5: who our team is, because clearly they couldn't just tell
- 6:26Speaker 5: by the golden black that we were wearing.
- 6:28Speaker 3: If you can't be it's an update right when you're
- 6:32Speaker 3: when you're repping your team. Yeah, who even are you.
- 6:38Speaker 4: Bigger the better?
- 6:39Speaker 1: Honestly, I was like, check that out. That is somebody
- 6:42Speaker 1: that's like a twenty to thirty dollars up cell. If
- 6:46Speaker 1: you're like at Marti Gras or like like the Steelers
- 6:50Speaker 1: version of that was like twenty five bucks because I
- 6:52Speaker 1: specifically asked my dad if he was home for me
- 6:56Speaker 1: because I was, I have to wear this every time
- 7:00Speaker 1: we watch a game. And I had seen a guy
- 7:03Speaker 1: at the start of last season wearing one, and I
- 7:05Speaker 1: was like, money is no objects. And then they came
- 7:08Speaker 1: home from Pittsburgh without one, and I was like, I said,
- 7:12Speaker 1: money was no object and it was like twenty five
- 7:16Speaker 1: dollars for one of those. So you you you bougie
- 7:20Speaker 1: Falcon fan Falcon No, sorry, that's that's boys sports Hawk guys.
- 7:27Speaker 1: Everybody's yeah.
- 7:30Speaker 5: So just I mean, I'm just a die hard Hawkeye
- 7:33Speaker 5: fan all sports. Most recently, I've been really getting into
- 7:36Speaker 5: women's the women's basketball team, and I mean, I know
- 7:40Speaker 5: we're not here to talk about sports, but that's kind
- 7:42Speaker 5: of my that's kind of my thing when it comes
- 7:45Speaker 5: to Iowa.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Your favorite is your favorite player coming here? I think
- 7:49Speaker 1: we talked about this in California, right or No, am
- 7:52Speaker 1: I on drugs? I'm on drugs? I'm not.
- 7:56Speaker 5: And oh, well, there's a there's going to be a
- 7:59Speaker 5: new w NBA t in your city.
- 8:00Speaker 2: In Portland.
- 8:01Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I didn't know that he's not coming. Okay, now, well,
- 8:05Speaker 1: because we talked about I had when Karen and John
- 8:08Speaker 1: and I met up for gar anniversary trip, I had
- 8:11Speaker 1: just toward the Ritz Carlton Residences up here, which are
- 8:16Speaker 1: these seven hundred and like fifty square foot eight hundred
- 8:19Speaker 1: and fifty thousand dollars condos that they're selling it downtown Portland.
- 8:23Speaker 1: Do that math. It's fucking sad. But a big reason
- 8:27Speaker 1: that they brought those condos to the area was in
- 8:30Speaker 1: collaboration with the w NBA coming to Portland. Some of
- 8:34Speaker 1: the players, I guess are gonna reside there as one
- 8:37Speaker 1: of the perks living there, you might brush elbows with
- 8:40Speaker 1: a WNBA player. So I think I got that confused
- 8:46Speaker 1: for a minute because.
- 8:47Speaker 5: I thought you me and John and John became an
- 8:51Speaker 5: uncle for the first time. I'm an aunt for the
- 8:53Speaker 5: first time. Yeah, So we definitely will be coming your
- 8:58Speaker 5: way to see the little baby and of course visit
- 9:01Speaker 5: to see eron two. If it might correspond with a
- 9:04Speaker 5: WNBA game. It might not, but that's you know, in
- 9:08Speaker 5: this case, that's not the focus. Yeah, it's just a perk.
- 9:17Speaker 1: I would be remiss if I didn't ask, Now that
- 9:19Speaker 1: we've forcibly made Jody go get one, because you forgot.
- 9:24Speaker 1: What's today's suck, Jody.
- 9:25Speaker 3: Today's today's suck is Harry. It's a Harry Potter themed
- 9:38Speaker 3: otter socko was also purchased in the sock shop and not.
- 9:44Speaker 1: A wild I was just gone, now you you recently
- 9:49Speaker 1: got not and then recently is you know, adjacent to
- 9:52Speaker 1: the truth here, but semi recently received some socks from
- 9:57Speaker 1: uh three of us?
- 9:59Speaker 3: Right, yeah, I received six single socks for my amazing microphone.
- 10:08Speaker 3: They all say something like I don't have any friends,
- 10:14Speaker 3: no lonesome sock.
- 10:17Speaker 1: There's the one that says something about underwear.
- 10:19Speaker 3: Gnomes stole me. This is what you got.
- 10:22Speaker 1: Yeah. One of them definitely said something about milk, because
- 10:25Speaker 1: I was like, this seems weird. We need yeah, tomato milk, right,
- 10:33Speaker 1: tomato milk just ketch, Let's just sketch.
- 10:36Speaker 2: Guess all of us in Vegas had the same thought.
- 10:39Speaker 2: Let's get Jody more socks.
- 10:40Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 10:41Speaker 4: I can't go into a shop, sock shop and not
- 10:44Speaker 4: think of Jody.
- 10:45Speaker 5: Like behind the socks, is there a story?
- 10:50Speaker 6: Well?
- 10:51Speaker 3: Yeah, there is, actually, so I can't be bothered to
- 10:55Speaker 3: go down into my garage to get the little slick
- 11:00Speaker 3: leave and uh, you know the.
- 11:03Speaker 1: The sound of the windscreen windscreen screen. You mean the
- 11:07Speaker 1: garage you go down to every day to leave your house.
- 11:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm quiet.
- 11:12Speaker 3: I can't be bothered to go and grab that, so
- 11:16Speaker 3: I instead use a sock. And so each episode I
- 11:20Speaker 3: have a different sock.
- 11:21Speaker 5: I love it.
- 11:22Speaker 2: The wind sock.
- 11:23Speaker 1: We made it her weird Blanche thing.
- 11:26Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, because I'm weird.
- 11:29Speaker 1: Blanche has we love it. Blanche has eighty seven thousand
- 11:33Speaker 1: nail polishes and perfumes on her little vanity. So Jodie
- 11:38Speaker 1: has that, but in socks. Socks.
- 11:40Speaker 2: Yes, it's the modern version.
- 11:42Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, so buttons, yes, so buttons.
- 11:50Speaker 5: So.
- 11:50Speaker 1: But do you know we saw a movie yesterday.
- 11:54Speaker 2: That I think we did not together, but we did.
- 11:58Speaker 1: Relatively the same.
- 11:59Speaker 2: It felt like we were together.
- 12:01Speaker 1: Yeah. Before we say anything else, I do want to
- 12:06Speaker 1: say that Hugh Grant has been someone I've had a
- 12:09Speaker 1: legitimate crush on most of my adult life. This movie
- 12:12Speaker 1: was very troubling for me.
- 12:14Speaker 2: The movie is called Heretic with Hugh.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Grant, or if I call it Heretic, which I did
- 12:21Speaker 1: twice yesterday, like I completely forgot the English language. But yes, I.
- 12:26Speaker 3: Heard some buzz on Mormon TikTok about this movie.
- 12:31Speaker 1: Sorry, well, now we have to stop everything.
- 12:34Speaker 2: We haven't heard a Mormon TikTok. Have you seen the
- 12:39Speaker 2: Mormon Wives show? Now? Is that what you're talking.
- 12:42Speaker 3: About the Mormon side of TikTok?
- 12:46Speaker 2: Oh?
- 12:46Speaker 1: Someone told me about that show. Well, we're not friends
- 12:50Speaker 1: right now, so I didn't want.
- 12:53Speaker 2: I'm not gonna watch your show.
- 12:54Speaker 1: No, it's an annoying coworker. So I went went on
- 12:57Speaker 1: air and out the other it's not Chris and it's
- 13:00Speaker 1: a different co worker.
- 13:02Speaker 5: Oh, how do you find Mormon TikTok?
- 13:07Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, good question.
- 13:09Speaker 3: Well I kind of went on this bizarre rabbit hole
- 13:13Speaker 3: about scientology and other cults and which led me to
- 13:18Speaker 3: the Mormon side of TikTok. And I guess a lot
- 13:22Speaker 3: of people were talking about how the church is now
- 13:27Speaker 3: using this video as better ways to protect their missionaries
- 13:34Speaker 3: when they go out, and maybe two young females shouldn't
- 13:40Speaker 3: be knocking on doors.
- 13:44Speaker 1: I routinely accidentally cut myself with things like raisors. Truly,
- 13:49Speaker 1: I almost evered the tip of my thumb off the
- 13:51Speaker 1: other day, making that small, wooden miniature lots of blood
- 13:55Speaker 1: that said, I don't want to be left alone in
- 13:57Speaker 1: a room with huge or huge rent huge Jackman for
- 14:00Speaker 1: different reasons.
- 14:03Speaker 2: I think the best part is that he for once
- 14:07Speaker 2: wasn't just mumbling the whole time. He's actually is very articulate.
- 14:13Speaker 1: So articulate and well educated. And when he doesn't have
- 14:17Speaker 1: his weird eighties dad glasses on, very sexy in an
- 14:20Speaker 1: old man way. But then also you want to cry
- 14:23Speaker 1: and I don't want blueberry pie ever again.
- 14:27Speaker 2: Yeah, so what is this movie about? Okay, so there's
- 14:31Speaker 2: two Mormon missionary girls that have an appointment, like he
- 14:37Speaker 2: asked for more information about the church you grant, and
- 14:41Speaker 2: they go to his house. They're very young girlsm not
- 14:45Speaker 2: nineteen twenty.
- 14:46Speaker 1: When you're on your mission, you're either nineteen or twenty.
- 14:48Speaker 1: It's typically that first year.
- 14:51Speaker 2: After and I don't know how much we want to
- 14:54Speaker 2: ruin it. But they he traps them in his house.
- 14:58Speaker 1: Okah, they sure, and he says he tests their faith, yes,
- 15:03Speaker 1: with are you okay that there's metal in the walls,
- 15:07Speaker 1: and because they're young kids, they're like sure, and then
- 15:10Speaker 1: they never they're just as bad news.
- 15:13Speaker 2: Bears yes, and there is a lot about blueberry Pie
- 15:17Speaker 2: that will make you go ooh, so you can.
- 15:20Speaker 1: Blueberry Pie is.
- 15:21Speaker 3: A character being okay, all right, So it's not going
- 15:25Speaker 3: to do the whole apple pie thing like from American Pie.
- 15:30Speaker 2: No thing like.
- 15:31Speaker 3: That's going to happen. Okay. So I was just thinking
- 15:33Speaker 3: that another pie will be ruined for me essentially where
- 15:38Speaker 3: it was going.
- 15:39Speaker 1: I was worried it was going to be like the
- 15:41Speaker 1: chocolate pie from The Help.
- 15:43Speaker 3: Oh, I don't like chocolate.
- 15:47Speaker 5: I didn't know that you could request a visit from missionaries.
- 15:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I didn't know that either.
- 15:52Speaker 1: Yeah, that's why they travel in pairs, because they do
- 15:55Speaker 1: go kind of door to door, but they don't want
- 15:58Speaker 1: a man and a woman missionary traveling. This is this
- 16:01Speaker 1: is real life now that women also go on missions,
- 16:04Speaker 1: because that wasn't the case for so long. It's either
- 16:07Speaker 1: two women or two men that go out because they
- 16:10Speaker 1: don't want to put you in a situation where you
- 16:11Speaker 1: might feel sexy time. But with the women, they actually
- 16:17Speaker 1: make a point in the show of saying is your
- 16:20Speaker 1: wife home? Because they're not supposed to be alone.
- 16:22Speaker 2: With it women. Yeah, I mean, I don't know. By
- 16:26Speaker 2: the time this error is we could probably spoil it anyway,
- 16:28Speaker 2: but the three of you might want to.
- 16:30Speaker 3: I want to see it, not spoil it. Yeah, I plan.
- 16:33Speaker 1: My friend died on the last day of his mission.
- 16:37Speaker 1: Oh he got hit by a double decker bus. And
- 16:40Speaker 1: I was like, and his parents true story. My friend,
- 16:43Speaker 1: my buddy, Mark Gleason, we went to high school together
- 16:46Speaker 1: all four years, same class friends. He always wanted to
- 16:50Speaker 1: borrow my Adida's track suit and I was like, get
- 16:52Speaker 1: the fuck out of here. This is vintage and my
- 16:54Speaker 1: dad's you get your own vintage track suit. Last day
- 16:58Speaker 1: of his mission, he was talking through London and he
- 17:01Speaker 1: get hit by a double decker bus because he looked
- 17:03Speaker 1: the wrong way. Because he's from America. In his whole
- 17:06Speaker 1: life he was taught to look right first and then
- 17:09Speaker 1: boom dead. So his parents stayed in the church. And
- 17:13Speaker 1: I always thought it was weird because I was like,
- 17:15Speaker 1: if my like about to be nineteen year old son
- 17:20Speaker 1: who was like a super gifted athlete and was on
- 17:23Speaker 1: an academic and athletic scholarship at BYU got hit by
- 17:27Speaker 1: a bus, you best believe I'm gonna have a little
- 17:30Speaker 1: trouble with my faith.
- 17:31Speaker 3: Trust and believe that's why though they have painted on
- 17:36Speaker 3: the ground now su sure, yeah, which direction to look?
- 17:41Speaker 1: This was ninety eight, Yeah, this was ninety eight, And
- 17:44Speaker 1: I don't.
- 17:45Speaker 2: Look both ways, look just look right.
- 17:47Speaker 1: I do everywhere I travel. I'm like, I do like nine.
- 17:52Speaker 2: Checks nor friend.
- 17:54Speaker 1: Yeah, well I think I do more checks because sure,
- 17:58Speaker 1: I think initially I would have just casually looked like
- 18:01Speaker 1: maybe once or twice and gone. And now I'm like,
- 18:03Speaker 1: I gotta make sure there's nothing that even if some
- 18:06Speaker 1: dick in like a testla speeds up, I don't die.
- 18:09Speaker 2: Oh rowing flying by the Only other thing I want
- 18:11Speaker 2: to add about the movie talk is I didn't notice
- 18:14Speaker 2: it till the credits. Did you notice that one character
- 18:16Speaker 2: was TOF Grace?
- 18:18Speaker 3: Oh shit, shit shit.
- 18:21Speaker 1: I saw his name in the kits, but I didn't
- 18:23Speaker 1: realize that's who that was. Why did they put so
- 18:24Speaker 1: much makeup and shit on it? I don't know, are
- 18:28Speaker 1: there two to for Graces.
- 18:29Speaker 2: Unless there's another such a cameo. Yeah, shit, see if
- 18:34Speaker 2: you can find him.
- 18:35Speaker 1: But that yeah, so he's he's like the third build
- 18:39Speaker 1: actor in that film, like above, one of the other women,
- 18:41Speaker 1: even like the two lead characters or the two female
- 18:45Speaker 1: leads if you look at the billing, it is like
- 18:48Speaker 1: he grant the one girl to for grace the other girl.
- 18:52Speaker 1: And I don't remember seeing him, but I think he
- 18:54Speaker 1: had to be the weird small cameo part, which makes
- 18:57Speaker 1: no sense.
- 18:58Speaker 2: There you go.
- 18:59Speaker 1: Also, guys, watch out for Y two K that's coming
- 19:02Speaker 1: out on this That.
- 19:02Speaker 2: Did look good. That looks horror movie about like what
- 19:07Speaker 2: if Y two K happened and the robology went crazy?
- 19:14Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 19:14Speaker 3: Yeah, he played Elder Kennedy.
- 19:17Speaker 1: Holy Function? Where were we the whole time?
- 19:20Speaker 2: I did not realize that was him.
- 19:22Speaker 1: My eyes don't work apparently.
- 19:24Speaker 5: Was this movie based on any real events or is
- 19:27Speaker 5: it completely fiction?
- 19:29Speaker 3: Not that I know of it's completely fiction.
- 19:33Speaker 1: It could be real.
- 19:35Speaker 3: I mean, I'm sure that true events inspired the screenplay.
- 19:39Speaker 2: Also, you're going to get an awesome speech about Monopoly
- 19:42Speaker 2: by the way, and radio.
- 19:44Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I hope you like music and Monopoly. If
- 19:48Speaker 1: you choose Monopoly of the games like the origins, Like,
- 19:53Speaker 1: I want to look that up and see if that's true.
- 19:55Speaker 1: And I may take that to A and E if
- 19:57Speaker 1: we resume at some point, because it's pretty good. Yo,
- 20:00Speaker 1: there was this whole other game in theory. I have
- 20:03Speaker 1: to look it up and see it through but made
- 20:05Speaker 1: by a woman first, and then this dude stole it. Yeah,
- 20:09Speaker 1: so weird. There he is right there to for grace,
- 20:12Speaker 1: so weird. Saw his name, never saw his face, And
- 20:15Speaker 1: now I'm feeling you did, I.
- 20:18Speaker 3: Mean I did.
- 20:19Speaker 2: But anyway, it should.
- 20:21Speaker 3: It should be on Amazon Prime to rent.
- 20:25Speaker 2: The time you hear this, I'm sure you can watch it.
- 20:28Speaker 2: I hope you enjoyed it, Dody.
- 20:29Speaker 3: Oh, I'm sure I will.
- 20:30Speaker 1: I love.
- 20:32Speaker 3: I'm very much into because of my background, which was
- 20:37Speaker 3: I grew up uber Christian, almost married a theologian that
- 20:42Speaker 3: went to Viola University, was planning on being a pastor's wife.
- 20:48Speaker 3: You can see I took a completely different road. So
- 20:51Speaker 3: I'm I'm very interested in finding out about other faiths,
- 20:56Speaker 3: but specifically when like they're supern natural things or horror
- 21:01Speaker 3: movies kind of like all mixed in. That's spot that
- 21:06Speaker 3: is the sweet when you should enjoy this.
- 21:09Speaker 5: Is this on a streaming service or did you just
- 21:12Speaker 5: came out on Thursday?
- 21:13Speaker 2: We just sa in a theater, but we're projecting to
- 21:16Speaker 2: win this episode airs. I'm sure you'll be able to
- 21:18Speaker 2: get it online.
- 21:19Speaker 1: I did some googling for you. And I will tell you, Karen,
- 21:24Speaker 1: it is not based on anything factual, but it does
- 21:27Speaker 1: say that oftentimes horror authors pull from other murder cases
- 21:31Speaker 1: and other things, so there's not a specific missionary, but
- 21:36Speaker 1: that some of this could have been somewhat potentially true. Oh.
- 21:40Speaker 2: Also, one of the girls if you watch Yellow Jacket
- 21:42Speaker 2: is young Natalie, and I was like, young Natalie.
- 21:46Speaker 1: Oh, is that this sexy brunette or the yes or blonde?
- 21:50Speaker 2: And she sexy brunette And she's the one who plays
- 21:53Speaker 2: young Juliette Lewis on Yellow Jackets.
- 21:56Speaker 3: Which we get season three.
- 21:59Speaker 2: I can't wait very I don't know when I can't wait.
- 22:03Speaker 1: Well, what do you think? Do you guys want to
- 22:05Speaker 1: talk more? Or no?
- 22:08Speaker 2: Let's tell you about the episode girl. Yeah, well I
- 22:10Speaker 2: gotta tell you about it.
- 22:11Speaker 3: Hold on, okay, all right?
- 22:13Speaker 2: Episode nine is called Blanche and the Younger Man. The
- 22:20Speaker 2: original airdate is November sixteenth, nineteen eighty five, directed by
- 22:25Speaker 2: Jim Drake, written by Susan Harris, James Berg and Stan Zimmerman.
- 22:31Speaker 2: Do we have a guess of what this episode is about?
- 22:34Speaker 3: I think the show or the episode is going to
- 22:37Speaker 3: be about pretty descriptive already Blanche getting the hots for
- 22:43Speaker 3: a younger dude. Okay, get them young, treat him rough
- 22:47Speaker 3: and tell him nothing or at least that's what my uh,
- 22:52Speaker 3: that's what my dad used to say as a joke
- 22:55Speaker 3: because all of his wives were ten years plus younger
- 23:00Speaker 3: than him.
- 23:01Speaker 1: Okay, well, you're making me a turtle out of this conversation. Cool.
- 23:07Speaker 5: How much younger do we think the young man is?
- 23:10Speaker 1: I know the answer because I have to rewat. I
- 23:12Speaker 1: have to watch them at least twice to write the question.
- 23:15Speaker 2: I don't remember. I'm gonna guess twenty years.
- 23:17Speaker 3: I'm gonna ooh no, I'm gonna say he's like twenty
- 23:20Speaker 3: he's in his early twenties.
- 23:23Speaker 2: Okay, Oh, I don't think it's that much.
- 23:25Speaker 4: I'm thinking like ten to fifteen year difference.
- 23:28Speaker 1: If I try to date someone in their early twenties
- 23:31Speaker 1: and I'm only forty four, please stop me.
- 23:33Speaker 6: No, yeah, I mean the only reason why I would
- 23:38Speaker 6: be encouraging you to ever be involved with somebody that
- 23:41Speaker 6: much younger than you is for that.
- 23:45Speaker 1: Yeah. Okay. Place is where this rule doesn't exist. Are
- 23:50Speaker 1: people like Austin Butler like that's fine?
- 23:54Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 23:54Speaker 1: Oh yeah.
- 23:55Speaker 2: There's always exceptions how much younger do you think the
- 23:58Speaker 2: man is?
- 23:59Speaker 5: Karen, Well, probably what I what I will say is
- 24:04Speaker 5: I think that the man is probably younger than Blanche
- 24:07Speaker 5: will elude.
- 24:07Speaker 1: That he is.
- 24:10Speaker 2: Good point.
- 24:12Speaker 1: I mean, you're not wrong. I'll spoil that. We're seeing
- 24:18Speaker 1: the show.
- 24:19Speaker 5: You know what Blanche is like.
- 24:21Speaker 3: Yeah, hey, we like him young Ross.
- 24:25Speaker 1: I mean a little bit young, zac Efron called me,
- 24:28Speaker 1: but like not too young.
- 24:30Speaker 3: Free or post face or jaw surgery.
- 24:34Speaker 1: Well, it's not exactly like he planned it. Yeah, he
- 24:37Speaker 1: smashed his face open on like the granite counter in
- 24:39Speaker 1: his kitchen. Ahlipped on like wet floor or something and
- 24:44Speaker 1: smashed his face. He has a whole new face. Look
- 24:47Speaker 1: at him now. My mom was like, oh he's had
- 24:49Speaker 1: too much plastic surgery then, and I was like, no fucker,
- 24:52Speaker 1: he almost died.
- 24:54Speaker 3: Yeah, oh yeah, I don't. I don't hate it though
- 24:58Speaker 3: it doesn't look too bad.
- 25:00Speaker 1: I'm fine either way.
- 25:02Speaker 3: I mean, I'm not kicking him out of bed either way.
- 25:05Speaker 1: So about his sense of humor and his abs for me.
- 25:07Speaker 1: So the show is like it goes with you know,
- 25:13Speaker 1: it's time to watch the show, but we aren't going
- 25:17Speaker 1: to We'll be back, Yeah, we'll be back. Hey, we came.
- 25:24Speaker 3: Back right around the corner, but we're back. I don't
- 25:31Speaker 3: know why I went around the corner.
- 25:32Speaker 1: We'll be right back was the one I remember, but
- 25:36Speaker 1: that was when they were on their way to commercial.
- 25:39Speaker 2: I have a little trivia for this episode if you
- 25:41Speaker 2: like it. Yes, Jeanette Nolan, who played Rose's mother, was
- 25:47Speaker 2: actually only ten years older than Buddy White.
- 25:51Speaker 5: She looked like she was, I'm not that much older.
- 25:53Speaker 5: And then they put a lot of heavy makeup on
- 25:55Speaker 5: her because if you were kind of look, you could
- 25:57Speaker 5: see like at the bottom of her neck it was
- 26:00Speaker 5: darker right right, and't like to where her chest started,
- 26:04Speaker 5: and then it was you could see a definite change
- 26:06Speaker 5: in the tone in her skin.
- 26:09Speaker 3: They do the same thing with Sophia's makeup.
- 26:12Speaker 2: Yeah. The other bit of trivia is that the week
- 26:15Speaker 2: that they filmed this episode, be Arthur's mother died, so
- 26:19Speaker 2: her scene with Sophia, I guess her emotion was was
- 26:22Speaker 2: actually real. Yeah.
- 26:26Speaker 3: Oh that's horrible.
- 26:29Speaker 2: Sorry, Sorry for the sad one.
- 26:31Speaker 1: I mean, not as sad as their plates and cups
- 26:35Speaker 1: that they use on the basis I really hate them.
- 26:38Speaker 1: All of it happens when we watched the show for
- 26:41Speaker 1: those of you you know that want to know what happens,
- 26:43Speaker 1: always sit here. I'd say twenty percent of the episodes
- 26:46Speaker 1: because they're in the kitchen a lot. I'm saying shit like, well,
- 26:50Speaker 1: here are the prison cups again, and today I was like, oh,
- 26:52Speaker 1: look at those beautiful dishes. I can tell because they
- 26:55Speaker 1: weren't the regular prison ones.
- 26:57Speaker 2: And how much you want Dorothy's outfit? You wears that
- 27:01Speaker 2: blue plaid?
- 27:02Speaker 1: Oh yeah, oh fuck, I want that so bad. It's
- 27:04Speaker 1: so hideous, But like I would wear the shit out
- 27:07Speaker 1: of it because it looks comfious.
- 27:08Speaker 2: It doesn't comfy.
- 27:11Speaker 1: Should we jump into the game? Karen the impressions on
- 27:14Speaker 1: the episode? What would you like to do?
- 27:15Speaker 5: You're our guest, say, let's jump right into that game?
- 27:19Speaker 2: Hell yeah, yeah.
- 27:20Speaker 3: We do have a little side note. Yes, during the episode,
- 27:25Speaker 3: we realized we did not pick a villain. Yes, So
- 27:29Speaker 3: it was about five minutes into, maybe seven minutes into
- 27:33Speaker 3: the episode, and we determined that both Kristen and myself
- 27:38Speaker 3: thought Rose was the villain of the episode.
- 27:41Speaker 2: Well, you had a lot of clues at that point, right.
- 27:44Speaker 1: My compendium of snark when that happened was that I
- 27:47Speaker 1: said yes and and Obviously, we've watched enough of this
- 27:50Speaker 1: show that we're pretty sure it's gonna be Rose because
- 27:53Speaker 1: she just she comes in hot with her mom. Man,
- 27:55Speaker 1: she yeah, you don't fucking you sit down and I
- 28:00Speaker 1: will make you.
- 28:02Speaker 2: Why don't you lay down?
- 28:03Speaker 4: Actually take a nap.
- 28:05Speaker 1: Sorry, guys, no game this week, but if you if
- 28:08Speaker 1: you're watching along with us, games, no villain games this week.
- 28:14Speaker 1: If you're watching along with us, I'm pretty sure by
- 28:16Speaker 1: the five minute point, you're like, fuck, Rose is the villain.
- 28:19Speaker 1: She's a bitch. So we're gonna forego that.
- 28:22Speaker 2: We'll have to do it for the next one.
- 28:24Speaker 1: Guys.
- 28:24Speaker 5: Yeah, Well, you know what I was thinking about that
- 28:27Speaker 5: episode is that Dorothy really does talk to Sophia like
- 28:30Speaker 5: that sometimes and forbids her from doing so. It was
- 28:35Speaker 5: interesting to see Rose doing that with her mother and
- 28:39Speaker 5: then being counseled by Dorothy when she sometimes does.
- 28:43Speaker 1: She just did that on the bowling episode when she
- 28:46Speaker 1: said she couldn't go to the San Lanardo. Yeah so
- 28:52Speaker 1: in school.
- 28:52Speaker 4: Dorothy says, as the resident Dorothy of this podcast, I
- 29:00Speaker 4: do that quite frequently.
- 29:01Speaker 2: Stop treating.
- 29:03Speaker 1: Yeah right now.
- 29:07Speaker 2: Opining of which, this was our first pussy Cat that
- 29:10Speaker 2: we remember hearing. Yeah, I think that's what Sophia calls Dorothy.
- 29:14Speaker 1: Yes, all right, so let's jump into the QUI let's
- 29:18Speaker 1: do it just I guess, scream your name and I'll
- 29:21Speaker 1: try to pay.
- 29:21Speaker 2: Your name is your buzzer?
- 29:22Speaker 1: Karen? Yeah, okay, at some point I might just get
- 29:25Speaker 1: us buzzers, but for right now. So here's question one.
- 29:29Speaker 1: Who is the first golden girl that we see in
- 29:31Speaker 1: the episode?
- 29:33Speaker 5: Kristen?
- 29:35Speaker 4: Yeah, correct, She's got the popcorn and the chutie board.
- 29:41Speaker 2: Kristen takes notes, so she's a good girl.
- 29:45Speaker 5: Had to hide the food from Roses because.
- 29:50Speaker 3: Diet. Okay, I know it's hard to take notes during
- 29:55Speaker 3: the episode when Aaron starts going into her prison cups
- 29:59Speaker 3: and how she would just like roll over and die
- 30:02Speaker 3: if anybody ever forced her to drink or eat off
- 30:06Speaker 3: of these things, and I'm like, now you're distracting me.
- 30:10Speaker 3: You're too funny. Wait, what was that?
- 30:13Speaker 2: She does have the best commentary, except.
- 30:16Speaker 1: I know that you read your subtitles while I'm talking,
- 30:20Speaker 1: so it.
- 30:21Speaker 2: Just becomes gobbledygook in my head.
- 30:23Speaker 1: Oh okay, that's fair, that's okay. I didn't factor in
- 30:26Speaker 1: the gobbledygook.
- 30:27Speaker 2: Yeah, the technical term.
- 30:31Speaker 5: Is that your strategy putting on the caption so that
- 30:34Speaker 5: you remember the details of the episode better.
- 30:37Speaker 1: There are old people that need them to like just
- 30:39Speaker 1: like watching everything with them, I put captions on everything.
- 30:42Speaker 3: I want to make sure that I am hearing what
- 30:47Speaker 3: is actually being said, like if there's a spelling of
- 30:51Speaker 3: a name or like a location.
- 30:54Speaker 1: But that's wrong A lot of the times I'm learning.
- 30:57Speaker 3: Well, it's very helpful when you watching British British things, yes,
- 31:04Speaker 3: because I'm like, oh, what, like especially if you're in
- 31:07Speaker 3: Scotland or Wales and they're trying to speak in their
- 31:13Speaker 3: native tongue and I'm like, how there's no h there? What? What? What?
- 31:22Speaker 3: Aaron likes to say, It's just I like subtitles on
- 31:26Speaker 3: because I'm old.
- 31:28Speaker 1: Let me let me put it to this way, old one.
- 31:31Speaker 1: We're going to have this debate today. But here's the problem.
- 31:35Speaker 1: The subtitles for the British shows are often misspelled, like
- 31:39Speaker 1: for instance, Love Island. The subtitles are done by the
- 31:44Speaker 1: American company m playing the show, so if they don't
- 31:50Speaker 1: know the word, they make up something. There's just like
- 31:53Speaker 1: a fucking series of letters that make no sense sometimes,
- 31:56Speaker 1: and so her whole reason other than the fact makes
- 32:01Speaker 1: no sense because the words are not they're not right. Yeah,
- 32:05Speaker 1: and then I can't remember who, but someone who I
- 32:08Speaker 1: know how to spell their name once repeatedly on the
- 32:13Speaker 1: TV was like just wrong all the time.
- 32:16Speaker 2: The live captions, yeah, the trunks, Yeah, they.
- 32:22Speaker 1: Just make up words. So it doesn't it doesn't help me,
- 32:25Speaker 1: but I leave them on in case my house guests
- 32:27Speaker 1: come and they need to read their show.
- 32:30Speaker 3: Well.
- 32:30Speaker 5: We use it a lot to it for the same reasons,
- 32:33Speaker 5: especially when we're watching fortish shows or any show where
- 32:35Speaker 5: someone has a thicker accent or is using slang that
- 32:39Speaker 5: we don't know.
- 32:39Speaker 1: It's better if it's not a live but if it's
- 32:42Speaker 1: if it's an actual like live captioning, it's trash. You
- 32:47Speaker 1: can't rely on it. The only live person's name was Puppy,
- 32:52Speaker 1: and the name's like Pavarotti, and you're like, I don't
- 32:55Speaker 1: know why that said puppy.
- 32:56Speaker 4: See. I like it because sometimes, especially in certain movies,
- 33:00Speaker 4: the volume changes and so when more softly, I can't
- 33:05Speaker 4: always hear what they're saying, so I always have the
- 33:08Speaker 4: captions on.
- 33:09Speaker 1: You're proving my point in that ear old age has
- 33:11Speaker 1: prevented your ears from working. They're full potential. Yeah maybe so.
- 33:15Speaker 1: Question two, why does Dorothy say that Rose ordered her
- 33:20Speaker 1: mom the wheelchair at the airport, the special meal on
- 33:23Speaker 1: the plane, and that there's an oxygen tank in the garage?
- 33:28Speaker 5: Oh shit, Oh Karen, Yes, she's a disabled welder on
- 33:33Speaker 5: a special diet.
- 33:34Speaker 2: Yes, Karen, well done.
- 33:39Speaker 1: It's one of my favorite lines in the entire thing
- 33:42Speaker 1: because it's like, what just came out of your brain?
- 33:46Speaker 2: And to remind people, if she stumps us, Aaron gets
- 33:49Speaker 2: the point.
- 33:50Speaker 1: Yes, yes, what is Roses mothers? I have so many
- 33:54Speaker 1: apostrophes in this sentence. I'm mad at myself. What Roses
- 33:59Speaker 1: mother's last name?
- 34:00Speaker 5: Karen? Yes, Lindstrom name Karen tarenya.
- 34:07Speaker 3: I only wrote down the first name. Missus, missus, fuck you, Gina, oh.
- 34:19Speaker 2: God, missus Rose's mom.
- 34:22Speaker 5: I mean, I'm from the Upper Midwest and Lindstrom is
- 34:25Speaker 5: a pretty popular name. It's easy to remember it is.
- 34:28Speaker 1: I work with a Lindstrom and she's like Rose was
- 34:30Speaker 1: always my favorite, and it was like because her maiden
- 34:33Speaker 1: name was Lindstrom, that's my name. And I was like, yes,
- 34:38Speaker 1: I know what your name is.
- 34:39Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 34:41Speaker 1: So why Is there nothing wrong with taking naps.
- 34:45Speaker 2: Gina, Yes, Bob Hope takes naps.
- 34:49Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 34:49Speaker 2: Yeah, this is Bob for taking naps. Hope.
- 34:53Speaker 1: I wasn't permitted to meet. I told the story every
- 34:57Speaker 1: time they say name spoiler, and they will say Bob
- 35:03Speaker 1: Hope thousands of times in the course of the Golden Girls, probably,
- 35:06Speaker 1: But I worked a special event and I was the
- 35:10Speaker 1: person that was like there with him and his wife,
- 35:13Speaker 1: and as like a media host. I was in the
- 35:15Speaker 1: section they were in. But he was already old nineteen,
- 35:20Speaker 1: he was already pretty close to the end, and so
- 35:22Speaker 1: he didn't even really talk. He just pushed the button
- 35:25Speaker 1: to start the Christmas festivities for Disney that year. And
- 35:29Speaker 1: it was really sad, but I'm taking that as a win.
- 35:32Speaker 1: I mean, he looked at me, but we weren't really
- 35:34Speaker 1: allowed to talk to him because he didn't know what
- 35:36Speaker 1: was going on.
- 35:38Speaker 2: Don't you speak to mister Hope.
- 35:40Speaker 1: Yeah no, Well it was just like, don't he's not well,
- 35:43Speaker 1: don't bother him kind of a thing. So we stood
- 35:46Speaker 1: there with him, but I was like, I just want
- 35:49Speaker 1: to talk to you about all your mouths. All right,
- 35:53Speaker 1: this is strictly confidential. But Dirk is nearly how many
- 35:57Speaker 1: years younger than Blanche?
- 36:00Speaker 2: Did they say?
- 36:02Speaker 1: Yeah? Blanche says, this is strictly confidential, but Dirk is
- 36:06Speaker 1: nearly We were talking.
- 36:08Speaker 3: Yeah, we said a little bit.
- 36:13Speaker 1: No, a little bit. It's not an answer.
- 36:16Speaker 2: But Gina twenty years now, get a chance, okay.
- 36:21Speaker 5: Karen, Yes, nearly five?
- 36:23Speaker 1: Yes, good job, Hereen nice, She's nearly fine, Karen, well played.
- 36:30Speaker 1: I like what you did there.
- 36:33Speaker 5: That's not allowed to answer.
- 36:35Speaker 1: I wrote this as sort of a part too, but
- 36:38Speaker 1: this is the second half of that scene, so hopefully
- 36:41Speaker 1: someone caught this. And what is Dorothy's response to Blanche
- 36:45Speaker 1: being only five years older than Dirk? How what does
- 36:50Speaker 1: she say?
- 36:51Speaker 5: Karen? Yes, if you're counting a dog ears?
- 36:53Speaker 2: Yes, yes, I miss that?
- 36:56Speaker 1: And what dog ears?
- 36:58Speaker 3: Yeah, we were, we were kind of chatting.
- 37:03Speaker 4: I got the dog ears part.
- 37:05Speaker 1: I got the dog ears part. So Blanche tells the
- 37:09Speaker 1: story that she's told before. So this is gonna be
- 37:13Speaker 1: four two points, but it is technically two points, so
- 37:16Speaker 1: don't overshare. Who does Blanche meet behind the counter at
- 37:20Speaker 1: Rexell's drug store in this first version she's telling today
- 37:25Speaker 1: on this episode of Joe Christs Dan, Yes, you almost
- 37:36Speaker 1: said that The way, I can't think of her character.
- 37:39Speaker 1: But when Chris dan is main main it is the
- 37:43Speaker 1: Days of our Lives moment there. Okay, all right, so
