Transcript
- 0:10Hello to all the Marvel fans, comic geeks, and all the nerds
- 0:12in between. Welcome to another episode of
- 0:14the Vigilantevides podcast where we talk all things Marvel
- 0:16without the toxicity that's taken up way too much time in
- 0:19each and every fandom, not just Marvel.
- 0:21I'm your host, Megan Nicole, and today I am very pleased to
- 0:24introduce a very special guest today.
- 0:26I'm joined by someone who has been on the show before, but it
- 0:28has been way too long. And ever since then, he's been
- 0:32making all kinds of moves in the nerd world and in the world of
- 0:35media. Please welcome Richard Nebbins.
- 0:38Thank you so much. It's a it's great to be back.
- 0:40It's it's definitely been way too long since since we've done
- 0:42this and I'm glad to be back. Yeah, you came in when the first
- 0:46trailer of Deadpool Wolverine was had just released.
- 0:50Yeah, which I mean that was like 2 years ago now.
- 0:53Yeah, yeah. So for some, I have new
- 0:57listeners and they may not remember you being on because it
- 1:00was 2 freaking years ago. So why don't you tell my
- 1:03listeners a little bit about you?
- 1:05Yeah. So I am a entertainment
- 1:07journalist is that's my my job. I write mostly for the direct,
- 1:12but I also have a new job that I just started about a month and a
- 1:15half ago at Movie Web. It's a, it's kind of a
- 1:18subsidiary of Green Rant and Collider and those guys.
- 1:22And, you know, I'm working my way up in the business.
- 1:24I've got, you know, a bunch of articles for my name, but I
- 1:27love, I love covering everything in the entertainment space.
- 1:30I, I mean, I specifically could focus on like Marvel, DC, Star
- 1:33Wars, that kind of thing. But, but I covered just about
- 1:36everything. And you know, I, I love what I
- 1:38do. It's, it's a great gig and I was
- 1:42looking forward to seeing like what 2026 has to offer and what
- 1:44the future has to offer offer me with this position.
- 1:47It's it's a lot of fun. Yeah.
- 1:49And I remember before when you were just doing the direct and
- 1:52it was like you were always busy.
- 1:53So my question is, when do you sleep?
- 1:57That, that is a good question. Yeah.
- 1:59Things have slowed down a little bit at the direct, which, you
- 2:02know, partially why I got the movie web gig.
- 2:04And I'm working with a great team over there.
- 2:05My buddy, my buddy Joe Deckelmeyer, he's he was the
- 2:08former guy, main guy at Screen Rand, who does like all the big
- 2:11interviews with everybody on the planet in in the movie world.
- 2:15And yeah, I know I'm looking forward to hopefully doing some
- 2:18big things. They're working my way up and,
- 2:21you know, hopefully getting some big events and premieres and
- 2:23doing more of like what I really want to do in this space.
- 2:26But, but no, I have been pretty much ever since I got back from
- 2:29my vacation a couple weeks ago, I have been busting my tail
- 2:34writing like crazy. I probably didn't been doing
- 2:36anywhere from 6 to 9 articles a day, almost every day.
- 2:41And, and, and I love it. I mean, I mean, it's, it's
- 2:43tiring and you know, it's, it's, it, it could take a lot, but
- 2:46it's, it's a great job. And honestly, I, I get to work
- 2:49from home and write about movies and TV for a living.
- 2:51I'm not sure I could really get a cushier gig than that.
- 2:55That's true. So you mentioned working your
- 2:58way up to doing the things you really want to do.
- 3:00What is that? I mean, eventually I'd love to
- 3:04like do more interviews with people and like go to premieres
- 3:07and things like that in the in the journalism world.
- 3:09I've got friends who like what Joe does that they'd like do
- 3:12panels at comic cons with all these celebrities and stuff.
- 3:16But I'm working a bit up to it. I'm actually just about to hit
- 3:19six years at the direct Which? Is.
- 3:21Pretty thank you. Yeah, being pretty huge
- 3:24accomplishment. I don't think I've ever been at
- 3:26a job for six years. And, and that's been a great
- 3:30team. I've put out so many articles
- 3:33and I've done like podcasts and interviews.
- 3:35There's I've actually just recorded a, a Patreon episode
- 3:38for Direct Podcast with my buddy David this morning, which is up
- 3:42on the Direct Podcast Patreon account.
- 3:44It's only like I think the top amount you could do is like 5
- 3:47bucks a month if you want. If anybody out there wants to
- 3:49join us, it's a great group of people.
- 3:52We get. We have our own Discord channel
- 3:54and we talk about movies and stuff all the time and that's a
- 3:57great podcast to listen to if you guys are ever in the need
- 4:00for something else besides obviously, obviously the joint
- 4:02vibes. Thanks.
- 4:04Speaking of podcasts, it feels, I feel like I see you everywhere
- 4:07now. Like I see the direct, I see
- 4:09movie web, but then I see you on like fundamentals.
- 4:12I see you on Hops Geeks News and it's like this guy really gets
- 4:15around. I, I am just glad that I have so
- 4:21many friends in this industry who like can tolerate me and
- 4:24like me and like having me talk about movies and TV and stuff.
- 4:28You know, I, like I said, I'm lucky that I get to like be in
- 4:32the movie world for a living. Like I actually get to pay my
- 4:36bills by watching movies and TV shows.
- 4:39I mean, how many people can really say that?
- 4:42Facts because a lot of us are still trying to get paid for
- 4:44doing this stuff and you are living on dream.
- 4:48Well, thank you. You're welcome.
- 4:50You just, you're doing so much and it's all very, very cool
- 4:54stuff. Like you, like I said, you're
- 4:56living the nerds dream doing all of this.
- 4:58So you write so many articles a day, which I have to tell you,
- 5:02that sounds exhausting. I hate writing.
- 5:04I hate it. You know, it's funny coming from
- 5:07somebody who used to be the world's worst writer.
- 5:10Could not write an essay to save my life from middle school
- 5:12through college. I still can't believe that this
- 5:15is what I do for a living every day.
- 5:17Like considering that like the fact that I barely passed
- 5:19English and like all of my English and writing classes from
- 5:23middle school through college and I do this for like and get
- 5:26paid for it now is insane. You ever look back at your old
- 5:31articles and you're like, oh, what did I do?
- 5:33Yes. All the time.
- 5:34But like, like from 5-6 years ago.
- 5:36Yeah. I'm just thinking like what was
- 5:38I doing? And like, And like, I know like
- 5:39formats have changed and like that all so much has changed
- 5:43over the last few years, but it is kind of funny looking back on
- 5:46that kind of stuff. And like, and I've made it like
- 5:49I've made on, on stuff like ifunny and people have like
- 5:52posted my stuff on like weird places all over the Internet.
- 5:54And it is weird like finding stuff like that on the Internet.
- 5:58But like my family has sent me stuff like that every once in a
- 6:01while. Oh.
- 6:02My God and. It's and it's wild.
- 6:05I've never even thought about that aspect of it.
- 6:08Yeah, like I remember once one specific one that I remember,
- 6:14it's just hilarious. I ended up on I funny once for
- 6:17this article I wrote, I think it was on the Amber Heard thing,
- 6:20like during all the Aquaman stuff and somebody posted like
- 6:25the first little bit of my article next to that meme that
- 6:28goes the Lion, the Witch and the audacity of this bitch.
- 6:30It was pretty great. So many good memes came out of
- 6:37that point in time. Yes.
- 6:41So you are pretty much ahead of the game when it comes to like
- 6:46movies, TV shows, everything that's happening.
- 6:48What are you looking most forward to this year?
- 6:52Avengers, Doomsday, anybody, I mean like, I mean kind of like
- 6:56the biggest superhero movie possibly ever, you know, that's
- 7:00going to be a lot of fun. Obviously Spider Man obviously
- 7:03I'm really looking forward to all the DC stuff too.
- 7:05Like we just got that Lanterns trailer today, you know, think.
- 7:09Of. Now the Lanterns, the Lantern
- 7:13show looks awesome. I'm really excited for
- 7:14Supergirl. Clayface is going to be a lot of
- 7:17fun. I'm looking forward to seeing
- 7:18what they do. Like, I'm not much of A horror
- 7:20person, but I'm excited to see like what the comic book movie
- 7:23world horror movie looks like. And then I mean, obviously we
- 7:26got Star Wars 2, Mando and Grogu.
- 7:28That should be a lot of fun. Yeah.
- 7:31And then just just so much stuff, obviously that like I
- 7:34have to keep track of, like I just watched.
- 7:36I just been catching up on Monarch, Legacy of Monsters,
- 7:38early Season 2 stuff. Wrote a couple of exclusives for
- 7:41my buddy Joe that he got from the cast, like did today and
- 7:44yesterday. And yeah, no, it should be a
- 7:47really, really big year for just the whole movie and TV world in
- 7:51general. Yeah, and we still have
- 7:53Daredevil this month and Vision Quest is supposed to happen at
- 7:57some point. And the Punishers special.
- 8:01And it's like, what are we? How are we going to breathe?
- 8:04Like content creators, this is this is our year to thrive.
- 8:08Exactly like, like it's, it's a crazy gig for writers and
- 8:11content creators and everything but it, but it's so fun.
- 8:13Like we've got, we have so much to cover this year.
- 8:17Yeah, just today, like you said, the Lanterns teaser came out.
- 8:21I thought it looked fantastic. Half the fandom did not.
- 8:25They were not. I know the the suit is a little
- 8:29weird. Well I am curious to see where
- 8:31they what they do with that in the show.
- 8:34Did not expect it to be so F bomb heavy.
- 8:36Although he should have because I guess Nathan Fillion said that
- 8:38he, I remember if there was a quote he said where he's like,
- 8:41he had more F bombs than that than I think anything he'd ever
- 8:43done before. I didn't expect to be in the
- 8:46teaser like 3 or 4 times. And it's like, I love Kyle
- 8:51Chandler, I'll watch him be a dink in a show.
- 8:53I'm good. Yeah, yeah, I love him and I'm
- 8:56really liking Aaron Pierre as as Jon Stewart so far.
- 9:00I've just decided to get more Green Lanterns up because I
- 9:02think he's one of the coolest DC characters and literally this is
- 9:04the first live action DC thing we've gotten since Ryan
- 9:07Reynolds. Yeah, that did happen, didn't
- 9:11it? That that certainly happened.
- 9:15I was. Like I was like 20 when that
- 9:16movie came out and I remember thinking it was so cool and like
- 9:20all the effects and everything and I was just a dumb 20 year
- 9:23old that it is. It is perfectly enjoyable.
- 9:25Ryan Reynolds does his thing, but.
- 9:27I fell afleet like 10 minutes in and then the next day I was
- 9:32asked like, do you want to try to give it another try?
- 9:34I was like no, no, no I don't. Cause at that point I found Ryan
- 9:40Reynolds so irritating as a person, but then he got into
- 9:44Deadpool and I was like this fits, this is good.
- 9:48But in everything else, I'm like, dude, just shut this guy
- 9:50up. Yeah, right.
- 9:54Yeah, but I liked it. I thought it was really fun.
- 9:58I do have questions like how is he the only Green Lantern when
- 10:05Guy Gardner is right there? So does that mean this is back
- 10:08in time? Like is this early 90s eighties?
- 10:12I thought that I had to like, is this a prequel kind of thing?
- 10:16Like does he not know about Guy Gardner yet?
- 10:18Is it like way before Superman happens And like, because they
- 10:22think they're the only human Green Lanterns?
- 10:26No, I I'm very curious to see where they go with that route.
- 10:29And people are so quick to say, no, this isn't it, This isn't
- 10:32it. They're not going to boot up
- 10:33till like the Ace episode. And it's like, just let them
- 10:37cook because a lot of you have been proven wrong by James Gunn
- 10:40lately, so. Peacemaker, anybody?
- 10:44I actually have not seen season 2.
- 10:48I'll say this, it's not quite as great as season 1 to me, but I
- 10:50still really really really like it.
- 10:52I mean honestly Peacemaker season 1 is probably my one of
- 10:55my favorite like DC properties ever.
- 10:59I didn't have to be. I have to admit something to
- 11:02you. I didn't like Season 1, but
- 11:04that's only because I didn't like John.
- 11:07I don't like John Cena that much.
- 11:08But now, like over the years, I've grown to appreciate him as
- 11:12an actor, and not just because it's.
- 11:15Kind of like. Yeah, it's kind of like if the
- 11:17UFC fighter jumped in to a main acting role.
- 11:21I'm like, I can't take you seriously.
- 11:23I've seen you being clipped in the nuts before.
- 11:25Like I can't do it. Yeah, I mean, I'll say between
- 11:28between him, The Rock and like Dave Batista and everything,
- 11:32honestly, I think he's probably done the best job of like
- 11:34transitioning from like wrestling to acting and
- 11:37everything. But I'm curious to see where he
- 11:39goes from here, like after Peacemaker.
- 11:41But I do love, I love the Peacemaker show.
- 11:44I want to give it another try but it's just like I'm just so
- 11:47busy so. And also, and also I got to give
- 11:49John, I got to give John Cena credit to apparently he is one
- 11:52of the nicest people ever to talk to.
- 11:54Like everybody I've talked to who's interviewed him before
- 11:57says he is just a gem. So that, so I I appreciate a lot
- 12:01for that. Which is crazy because like
- 12:0210-15 years ago I used to like religiously listen to I live
- 12:08near DC and they had this like big radio channel and they said
- 12:13who was the meanest celebrity you've ever met?
- 12:17And almost every call was Cena. Every single call.
- 12:21It was like all like 10 calls, but one was not.
- 12:25And I and I was like, I guess he is an asshole.
- 12:28And then the next thing I hear he's like, oh, he broke the
- 12:31world record for the most Make a wish foundation events.
- 12:35He's gone. And I was like, what is he
- 12:37playing at? Yeah, and maybe maybe he's just
- 12:41really grown over the years and. That's what I like to think.
- 12:44I really like to think that WWE, him leaving it, is he done?
- 12:48Is he out? I think he's officially retired.
- 12:51OK, so him stepping back and then finally retiring, like
- 12:53changed him some. That's what I like to think.
- 12:56Yeah, but no, I'm glad to see where he's going.
- 13:00Especially Peacemaker. I want to know is Peacemaker
- 13:02going to show up in some movies? Is it going to be a big part?
- 13:05Also blue beetle? Where's Blue Beetle?
- 13:08Oh, seriously, I loved Blue Beetle.
- 13:10That's that movie. Yeah, I had a lot of fun with
- 13:12Blue Beetle. I'm like, I know they're working
- 13:14on an animated series, but I don't know about like, live
- 13:17action or anything. I really hope they bring him
- 13:19back. I.
- 13:20Do too. I love this movie it was so
- 13:22underrated but when I went. He was in that weird flux time.
- 13:25He was in that weird flux time between like the transition
- 13:27between the the Snyder stuff and the gun stuff.
- 13:30Yeah, because James Gunn had to actually come out and say he's
- 13:33going to be a part of the new DC.
- 13:35And it's like, I was like, oh, thank God, but I went to the
- 13:37movie theater and only person in the theater on a Friday, only
- 13:41one. It was like such a kick in the
- 13:43Nats. Like, man, I liked it.
- 13:46It was a fun, fun movie. It was funny.
- 13:48I remember my wife and I did a triple feature the day we saw
- 13:52Blue Beetle. We saw Blue Beetle, Teenage
- 13:54Mutant Ninja Turtles and Barbie all on the same day.
- 13:57That's the only time we I think that's the only time we've ever
- 13:59done a double feature, much less a triple.
- 14:00And it it was so fun. We loved all three.
- 14:03I would fall asleep so hard. So like, how did, how, how many
- 14:08snacks did you sleep in there? I think we ended up doing like a
- 14:12couple of popcorns and a couple of drinks or something.
- 14:15We, we snuck a couple of things in, you know, here and there,
- 14:18but I, I think actually in the beginning of Barbie, I think my
- 14:22wife fell asleep for a little bit, but that was for ruling
- 14:25time. So I mean, we got through 3
- 14:27movies in a day pretty solidly. I know that was that had to be
- 14:32at the Barbenheimer time and now we're going to get Doones day,
- 14:36which is like Doom and Doomsday. It's like, look, I can only take
- 14:40so much. I can't do a double feature.
- 14:42I can't do a single feature because they're doesn't matter
- 14:45the movie. At one point I might fall asleep
- 14:47because I'm tired as a person, but like, how did you do 3?
- 14:52It's like a superpower. It was, it was pretty, pretty
- 14:56fun. And you know, it's funny too,
- 14:57thinking about the whole doomsday doom thing.
- 15:00I'm actually I I I appreciate the Dune movies for like, I
- 15:04mean, how they're made and everything.
- 15:05Not the biggest fan of them. I like them enough.
- 15:09But like, like if you're going to make me pick between Doomsday
- 15:11and Doom, give me Doomsday every day of the week.
- 15:13It's like die hard Marvel fan. Doom Dune has always been an
- 15:17afterthought for me as well. Like if I have nothing else to
- 15:20watch, I'll try it. I and then I watch it.
- 15:22I was like, you know, it was like it was like super OK, but I
- 15:26didn't read the book, didn't do any of that.
- 15:28So it's like, I don't know, it's, it's what I but I'm not
- 15:32about to go sit in a theater for three hours to watch these big
- 15:35old piles of sand and Timothy Charlemagne apparently doing the
- 15:39best job he's ever done, According to him.
- 15:43Yeah, I I've got my share of three hour movies that I will
- 15:47watch and most of them are the Lord of the Rings ones now,
- 15:48because I've, I've been on a real Lord of the Rings kick ever
- 15:51since the Comic Con cruise that I went on with where it had like
- 15:54Billy Boy, Dominic Monahan and a couple other like big people
- 15:58from. From that, this is your second
- 16:01year on the Comic Con. Cruise.
- 16:04Yeah, Cruise. Yeah, Thank you.
- 16:05I wanted to say parade, and it made no sense in this situation.
- 16:09Tell me about that, because personally, I'm not a cruise
- 16:12person, but I never heard of this before.
- 16:14You said you were going. And I am so invested because
- 16:18this sounds insane to me. Well, and that's the problem is
- 16:22apparently for hopefully not forever, but they don't have
- 16:25another one planned. They're like reworking it and
- 16:28hoping to bring it back in the next like year or two.
- 16:30But this thing was so fun. Literally it was sponsored by
- 16:33San Diego Comic Con and it was basically a giant Comic Con on a
- 16:38cruise. There's like, you know,
- 16:40thousands of people there. You know, it's a four day thing.
- 16:43And they brought in a ton of like big movie stars to do like
- 16:48panels and like like Felicia Day from Supernatural was the host
- 16:52both years and and she did a fantastic job the first.
- 16:56So the first year I did Ernie Hudson, Grace Caroline Curry and
- 16:59Virginia Gardner. And then this year I didn't get
- 17:02any interviews, but I met Doug Jones from Hocus Pocus, Ashley,
- 17:06Ashley Eckstein from Star Wars Ahsoka, Billy Gordon, Dominic
- 17:11Monahan from Lord of the Rings, And then, oh, Jason Isaacs from
- 17:16Harry Potter. I got pictures with all of them
- 17:19and and it was just so. Oh my gosh.
- 17:23And so it's a Comic Con. Are people like constantly
- 17:28dressed up? Not all the time, but there are
- 17:33like incredible cosplays just all over.
- 17:36Actually. It was really cool with my wife
- 17:38and I did one this year. We did.
- 17:40I don't know if you know what we Do in the Shadows.
- 17:43Laszlo and Nadja and she, she made everything like both of our
- 17:50costumes, just about everything in it took her, I think almost
- 17:5380 hours to do. And we actually got a judge's
- 17:55award at the at the Cosby competition they held.
- 17:58I mean we lost to a guy who literally was 6 foot 7 and had a
- 18:02handmade Chewbacca costume on. Can't.
- 18:04Beat that. No, no, He was standing right
- 18:06behind us in the in the judging line and like, yeah, you're
- 18:08going to win. Like we weren't even mad about
- 18:11it. That's so cool.
- 18:14I like, I love comic cons, I love conventions, I love them
- 18:18all. But like all of it on a boat.
- 18:19It's hard to wrap my head around 'cause I'm like, that's just so
- 18:22much awesomeness and one sitting for like a constant time period.
- 18:28Yeah, I know. It's so great.
- 18:29There's literally stuff going on from morning till night.
- 18:32There's late night stuff. This time there was a they had a
- 18:35trivia night for Lord of the Rings with Billy Boyd, Dominic
- 18:38Monahan and I think one other person.
- 18:41But but and, and like it, it's just so much fun.
- 18:44You make such good friends there because that's the thing about
- 18:47the cruises. Like it's all people who love
- 18:49like comic cons and movies and TV and stuff.
- 18:52So you make friends so easy. Like I know so many people from
- 18:56that now that I'm going to be keeping in touch with for such a
- 18:58long time and like I'm just fingers crossed they bring it
- 19:02back like I because my wife and I so want to go again.
- 19:06And that's a great networking situation as well for someone in
- 19:10the media you're getting. Totally.
- 19:12You're meeting new people, making new connections, and
- 19:14you're right in the middle of all of it.
- 19:17Totally. Yeah.
- 19:17Like, I mean, there's people who do like YouTube channels and
- 19:20podcasts and stuff and like, and some people who do what I do.
- 19:24No, it's a great place to like meet people and do that kind of
- 19:27stuff. Oh wow, so you are a huge Marvel
- 19:32fan. Yes.
- 19:34Yes, and something I've always appreciated about you because
- 19:36same. But do you have any Marvel hot
- 19:40takes? Because I'm a sucker for those.
- 19:45I don't know if I had any 2 crazy hot takes for me
- 19:48personally. The one thing I will say is I
- 19:51will defend almost anything from the MCU like no doubt.
- 19:55I know where this is going. The and like, I know like you
- 19:59and me disagree about love and Thunder.
- 20:00Me and just about everybody disagree about love and Thunder.
- 20:03But the one thing I will say is the one Marvel thing that I just
- 20:07cannot get behind. Secret evasion.
- 20:11Yeah, yeah. As soon as you said I, I take up
- 20:15for almost all of that. I was like, there's that one,
- 20:17that one that keeps us up at night.
- 20:19There is the one like it that just and I remember really
- 20:23wanting to like it at 1st and even like liking parts of it at
- 20:26first. I remember I did a review of it
- 20:28with my guys on the direct podcast afterwards and like it
- 20:31just looking back on it. I just, it just makes me so
- 20:35angry that they, I mean, a, a, it should have been a movie.
- 20:40I think, I think it maybe could have been a double dose of
- 20:42movies considering how big that story is.
- 20:44And like, and I think the thing that gets me the most mad about
- 20:48it is they did all the good stuff and the stuff they should
- 20:51have done throughout the series in the last 10 minutes of the
- 20:54last episode. Like like all the paranoia about
- 20:57the scrolls and everything and like just the world going nuts.
- 21:01That's what should have been the entire series.
- 21:03And, and, and also, I love Talos.
- 21:06I love Ben Mendelsohn as Talos and I'm so mad that they killed
- 21:08him off. I think if Marvel said look
- 21:13guys, we're going to pretend it didn't happen, I think the
- 21:16everyone would be like, word, it's cool.
- 21:18Not Cam. When it's cool, bring Maria.
- 21:20Back and I did think of one other thing too.
- 21:24I wish they would have kept the Inhumans movie in in the slate
- 21:30because because remember that they did that big phase 3
- 21:32announcement at the El Capitan and and the Inhumans was part of
- 21:37it. And that was like right as they
- 21:38were starting off the inhuman stuff on ages of shield two in
- 21:41season 2, I think. I mean, I know we've got the
- 21:44X-Men now and that's awesome and I can't wait to see where they
- 21:47go with the X-Men. But I know they were doing the
- 21:48Inhumans to like, you know, I don't necessarily replace the
- 21:53X-Men, but stayed in for him until they got the rights back.
- 21:56And, and I thought that would have been such a cool, you know,
- 22:00group of people to do. And I wish they, I, I, I would
- 22:02just love if they just ignored the, the series that they did
- 22:06and, and like, just try it again because, because I think, I
- 22:10think Vin Diesel is Black Bolt would be one of the coolest
- 22:12castings ever, if I'm being perfectly honest.
- 22:14Well, he's already Groot. Well, that's The thing is he
- 22:17talks there, but he's just CGI. This one, it would just be his
- 22:22body and he wouldn't have to talk.
- 22:24See I agree because we should be making him work for all that
- 22:28money he's getting for saying 3 and sometimes 4 words.
- 22:31I mean, it is a damn good gig. It's it's, I mean.
- 22:35It might be cushier than yours. Honestly, yeah, get to go to
- 22:39recording studio for what? And also I will say though, he
- 22:42does all of the all of the dubs for it like on all the other
- 22:46languages I've I've heard like does stays in the studio and and
- 22:49doesn't just do the English. So, so I appreciate that about
- 22:51it at least. He does have that going for him.
- 22:55Yeah, and of course he's got Fast and Furious and everything.
- 22:57He's he's got a good life. But but no like I I would love
- 23:01to see them actually do the Inhumans right.
- 23:05I agree. I when they announced that,
- 23:09you're right, it was at the time where Agents of SHIELD was
- 23:11starting to dip their toe into it.
- 23:13And that's when I thought, OK, Agents of SHIELD is about to
- 23:16become one and one with the MCU. Yeah.
- 23:20And then I feel like something happened.
- 23:22They're like, no, no, no, we are going to turn away from that
- 23:25completely. Yeah, I think that was part of
- 23:28the whole like Ike Perlmutter thing, like back of the day and
- 23:30like with him and Feige being at each other's throats or
- 23:32whatever. And thank God that whole thing
- 23:35ended. But.
- 23:36But I think that's also what they're trying to make up for
- 23:38with like, you know, the mole Marvel TV thing now in phase
- 23:41four and beyond. Because really, the series have,
- 23:44outside of a couple exceptions, done a really good job of like
- 23:48integrating with the entire, I mean, maybe like stuff like Moon
- 23:51Night isn't maybe as connected as we'd like it to be.
- 23:54But other than that, I mean, I think they've done a really good
- 23:56job of really connecting everything between movies and
- 24:00TV. Moon Night, it's it's such a
- 24:03hard place to be because if you haven't read any Moon Night
- 24:07comics whatsoever, you know nothing about that man.
- 24:10You're like, oh, a pretty good show.
- 24:11They did pretty well. But then if you have, it's like,
- 24:14OK, well, first of all, no, it's a good show.
- 24:18But it's not like, yeah, you just made-up a whole bunch of
- 24:21stuff about Moon Night and put it in a show.
- 24:22And I dubbed the show, but it was like when I was watching, I
- 24:25was like, what? What are we talking about here?
- 24:29Yeah, and, and like, I mean, especially me being Jewish,
- 24:31that's like, that's my guy. I mean, I love that we've got a
- 24:33Jewish superhero, but no. And and there was there was some
- 24:37really cool stuff in that series.
- 24:39Like I don't, I don't Yeah, I don't dislike it at all.
- 24:43I just wish, I just wish they could have like gone further
- 24:45with some things. And maybe and I wish it would
- 24:47get a season 2. I I hope it gets a season 2 or
- 24:50that they bring him into that Moon night Midnight Suns movies
- 24:52that they're talking about. See, I don't think it should get
- 24:55a season 2 because I I think it was there to introduce who he
- 25:00is, introduce Layla and I think it was just stopped there.
- 25:03I don't think he'll ever get a season 2, but I do think he's
- 25:05going to show up at some point because he was originally
- 25:08supposed to be in Kang Dynasty. Right.
- 25:11Yeah, yeah. But then you know.
- 25:13Everything changed and. Everything changed and it's like
- 25:16he very well could be showing up again.
- 25:18But I do think Midnight Suns would be the way to go.
- 25:22But I think you have to introduce those other characters
- 25:24first. Don't give us an eternal
- 25:25situation. Totally.
- 25:27Yeah. And like, and I've always said
- 25:30actually another one, I thought about Eternals just because I, I
- 25:33love that one because that's like the first big movie
- 25:35premiere I've ever been to was Eternals.
- 25:37That's right, you went to it. Yeah, it, it was so much fun,
- 25:41the time of my life. I think what they should have
- 25:43done with Eternals, even if they kept the same movie The way it
- 25:47was, I think they should have done a Disney Plus series,
- 25:49introducing all of them at first.
- 25:51Like like do 6 episodes, maybe one or two of them each per
- 25:55episode, have them team up at the end for something big.
- 25:57And that would have set them up really well for movies.
- 26:00Because I think the problem with that movie was you had way too
- 26:05many new characters to introduce who barely anybody had ever
- 26:07heard of before. I mean, Lilia, there was the 10
- 26:09Eternals, Dane Whitman, you know, Crow, the the Deviants,
- 26:16all that stuff. Like I liked it, I enjoyed the
- 26:19movie, but I think it was way too much for like the casual fan
- 26:24to to dive into at the same time.
- 26:27Yeah, if the only familiar voice you know in a movie is ends up
- 26:31being Blade at the end. And you have to like, and you
- 26:35have to hear from other people that it's Blade.
- 26:37You don't even like, know for sure who that is, because I
- 26:40didn't know it was Blade when it first came up at the post
- 26:42credited. Like people, I had people
- 26:44whispered to me like, oh, that's virtual Ali.
- 26:45And like, yeah, but and even then, like, yeah, when you don't
- 26:50know for sure that that's Blade and, and, and that's literally
- 26:54the final seconds, yeah. Yeah, and they they broke my
- 26:58heart because he doesn't know he's in love with me yet.
- 27:02But Harry Styles will know someday.
- 27:04And they made him Star Fox. And I was like, say no more.
- 27:09I don't care how this movie comes out.
- 27:11I'm in. I don't care.
- 27:12Do whatever you want, just to make sure I'm there and.
- 27:15I had I had non comic book movie fan family members asking me
- 27:20about sex. I got a bunch of like girl
- 27:22cousins who are all younger than me and like, yeah, a couple of
- 27:26them are definitely into hairstyles.
- 27:28Well, he's just a God. I mean, just a voice of an
- 27:32Angel. I make sure between Fergie and
- 27:34Jesus, you know. But then they just pretended it
- 27:37never happened. It was like you bastards.
- 27:40You gave us Pip the troll too though.
- 27:41Like you gave us so much. And I love Patton Oswalt too.
- 27:44Like like he's Marvel legend Patton Oswalt.
- 27:48Yeah, And you could have set up so much like you had the Black
- 27:50Knight. You set up, laid all of it.
- 27:53And then you just were like, you know what?
- 27:54Never mind, we suck. Pretend this never happened.
- 27:57And then it took us 10 years to figure out what's going on with
- 28:01that big old statue, and here we are.
- 28:05And honestly, like, like that wasn't, it wasn't bad what they
- 28:07did. I, I didn't actually didn't mind
- 28:09what they did with that in Cat 4.
- 28:10But the fact that it took us, yeah.
- 28:12But the fact that it took us so long to get there, literally it
- 28:15took five, almost 5 full years to to get there.
- 28:19And. We only got like one reference
- 28:21to that and that was in She Hulk and it was.
- 28:24And it wasn't even a line. It was like on a computer
- 28:26screen. Yeah, yeah, you had to.
- 28:27Like you had. To it was an Easter egg.
- 28:31They didn't want you to see it like.
- 28:33Yeah, right. And now it's like, all right,
- 28:36well, you've announced a lot of things for Wednesday and not one
- 28:40eternal so. Yeah, I mean, fingers crossed
- 28:43for Secret Wars because like, I mean, they're bringing, I really
- 28:46can't complain with what they're bringing to Doomsday.
- 28:48I mean, they've got the Russo Brothers directing it.
- 28:49They've got what, 20 MCU people, all the X-Men.
- 28:53I mean, it's and there's more we haven't heard about.
- 28:56There's rumors that Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman have a
- 28:58have a part in it just. Leave them out of it because I'm
- 29:01tired, tired of those two. They their promotional campaign
- 29:06for Deadpool's like that is just enough.
- 29:08Do nothing else. And then it ends with us came
- 29:12out and they took over that campaign.
- 29:13I was like, I hope you 2 fall in a hole.
- 29:17And now I'm just like just leave me alone.
- 29:19Both of you go away for a while. But yeah, no, it's it's so
- 29:22funny, like thinking about doomsday, like the cast that's
- 29:24already announced and who they've shown in the trailers
- 29:26and everything and thinking about who they haven't like
- 29:30talked about, because there's no way that just that is the cast.
- 29:35It there's, there has to be other people that they're not
- 29:38bringing up because why all the secrecy?
- 29:41But then it's like, I feel like they had this whole plan for a
- 29:45big promotional thing like the Russo brothers were posting
- 29:48their cryptic messages. They, we, they give this
- 29:51absolutely nothing, barely any leaks.
- 29:54And then they had the movie theater thing with the trailers,
- 29:58and that felt like Disney was like, look, we've been pretty
- 30:03cool, you're going to do this for us.
- 30:05And they're like mother. And I think they filmed those
- 30:09scenes, the trailers, just for that, because all of them don't
- 30:13fit into a movie. Honestly, yeah, I think at least
- 30:16a couple of them are are just and like Marvel's done that, but
- 30:20so many times as I've written at least like 5 or 6 articles
- 30:24before, unlike stuff that's in the trailers that isn't in the
- 30:27movies and everything. So that's that's no surprise.
- 30:30I believe it has. It differs because it's not in
- 30:33the official trailer. That's where that lawsuit comes
- 30:36in. This is just a teaser.
- 30:37They can do whatever they want. A teaser.
- 30:39But that X-Men one that is not in a movie.
- 30:41You cannot tell me any movie that X-Men scene is in.
- 30:44It is not. Yeah, no.
- 30:47And, and, and I will say too, the X-Men one I think was
- 30:52probably my favorite. Literally that three, that 3
- 30:55seconds of Cyclops is the best Cyclops material that we've ever
- 30:58gotten. I know.
- 31:00And in the the three seconds they fixed so many things that
- 31:05they did to us for I just watched all of the X-Men movies
- 31:08over and I was just saying they were like, this is bullshit.
- 31:11Wait, what are we doing? Like they made Cyclops such a
- 31:14little wimp and it makes me so mad because I like.
- 31:16This they just did absolutely nothing with him.
- 31:19And it's funny, I've actually met James Marsden before, like a
- 31:21long time ago at the hotel I was working at in Boston.
- 31:25Very nice guy. I'm a big fan of him, but and
- 31:27like I'm just so glad he's get like not just Tim, but let the
- 31:30rest of the X-Men cast are getting to do this.
- 31:32Like like what the X-Men should be in live action.
- 31:36Like what Alan Cummings talked about with his with his
- 31:38Nightcrawler stuff. And like, yeah.
- 31:42And like, and we know what the Russo brothers have done with
- 31:44Thor and like, that's been incredible.
- 31:47I love the Thor trailer, the Russo brothers with the X-Men as
- 31:51much as I'm, I'm actually really excited for Jake Schreyer.
- 31:54Like I'm really excited that Jake Schreyer is doing the X-Men
- 31:56Movie because I think he's going to do a great job with that.
- 31:58But the Russos with the with these legacy X-Men that we know
- 32:02and love and they're going to be even better.
- 32:04Like signing me up for Doomsday yesterday.
- 32:07Agreed. I think the Russos, they are the
- 32:10two directors that I would trust in my life.
- 32:12I do whatever you want. I trust both of you, both the
- 32:15X-Men. I know they're not going to be
- 32:17the ones that direct the X-Men Movie, but they are the ones who
- 32:21are setting the tone. So I think that's almost more
- 32:24important because Jake Schreyer is going to watch Doomsday and
- 32:27he's like, well, hey, I can't, I can't have my Cyclops looking
- 32:32like a wimp compared to theirs. You know, like, I think it'll
- 32:36set a lot of standards because they do.
- 32:39These are the people who do care.
- 32:40Like you do trust some of these things because it's what they
- 32:43do. They they said they'd only come
- 32:45back to Marvel if they could do Secret Wars.
- 32:47So it shows you they're not doing it for the movie.
- 32:49They're doing it for the past fashion and we're gonna, I think
- 32:52we're gonna see, I think we're all gonna come out with some
- 32:54trauma and I'm really agree with that.
- 32:57I'm really happy for that. Me too.
- 32:59And and, and think about too, about Jake Schreyer.
- 33:01I actually just watched Thunderbolts again yesterday and
- 33:03I, I forgot how much I just thoroughly love that movie.
- 33:06Like he did such a good job, especially too like because it
- 33:10was with a team of people. I'm really looking forward to
- 33:12seeing that kind of same team dynamic with with the X-Men
- 33:15whenever they're cast and like ready to go and everything.
- 33:18But I think the X-Men are gonna be in like the best spot they've
- 33:21ever been in. Like with Marvel Studios, as
- 33:23excited as I was to get them in the Fox deal in the 1st place, I
- 33:27think now that everything's coming together, it's like we
- 33:30are in for a good run with the X-Men, especially after X-Men
- 33:3397. Especially after X-Men 97.
- 33:37My gosh, I watch that show like every two weeks.
- 33:40But they there's also, it's not just them working on them.
- 33:44They have comic creators who are involved with the X-Men that are
- 33:49there to give their support and their advice.
- 33:52Like Chris Claremont. Yeah, he's a big one.
- 33:55He's got a big old mouth, but he's a big one.
- 33:57I remember. What he said about 50 Jensen.
- 34:01Dog, why would you do that? Like, why?
- 34:04Like she, she was playing it so perfectly.
- 34:07She had us all fooled. And then he's like, oh, she'll
- 34:09be there. And it's like.
- 34:11Oh, I mean, after the after the whole Andrew Garfield thing, I
- 34:13don't trust anybody. But I will say she did an
- 34:17admirable job of of making us believe she wasn't in it.
- 34:22See, I agree, we've all been Garfielded before and I refuse
- 34:25to be Garfielded again. But her and Halle Berry looked
- 34:28genuinely pissed when they talk about it and like, wait a
- 34:32minute, are you not going to be in it?
- 34:34And now it's like you guys are good actors, like and.
- 34:36Especially with Halle Berry like being next to Chris Hemsworth
- 34:39all the time on On that Crime 101 tour and rock and Mark
- 34:41Ruffalo. Yeah, hers I would believe.
- 34:44She's not going to be in it because she was tricked into
- 34:47taking the role of Storm to begin with.
- 34:49Right, Yeah, yeah. I mean, like, I, I know they
- 34:52would do right by her with, with Marvel, but I, I am curious to
- 34:56see where she stands on that because she's one of those ones
- 34:58that I might actually believe might not be in it.
- 35:02Same. But also, like, I know we all
- 35:04love Storm. I know we love Halle Berry, but
- 35:06she was not a good storm, guys. And I wish we'd all just agreed
- 35:08to that because like I, I'm so protective of Storm.
- 35:12She's such a beautiful, amazing, powerful character.
- 35:16And it's like, yeah. And it's like Halle Berry's
- 35:19very, very pretty and a very good actress, but she wasn't
- 35:23Storm. And I think that's OK to admit.
- 35:26It's cool. Yeah, yeah, I know.
- 35:28I, I, I am very curious to see if they do bring her back.
- 35:30I mean, no, she's not. If she comes back, she's not
- 35:32going to be back for more than like Doomsday or Secret Wars or
- 35:34whatever. But even just that I'm very
- 35:37curious to see like how many of the old back spend they're
- 35:40bringing back. I mean, just from the people
- 35:42that are confirmed, it's a hell of a team.
- 35:44Like I'm loving like the the team that they have, especially
- 35:47with like Jenny Tatum is Gambit and they're like finally getting
- 35:50him with a team and everything. That's going to be fantastic.
- 35:53Oh, and even like Mystique is coming through.
- 35:56Last time we saw her, she was a human.
- 35:58What are you people about to do? Why is she here?
- 36:01Because here's the thing, Magneto's also going to be in
- 36:04this movie. And last time we saw her, she
- 36:08was a human and she was ratting on Magneto and his team and
- 36:12selling them out. So it's like, yeah, how many
- 36:14internal conflicts are we going to get?
- 36:16And it's like I knew it was just so old now.
- 36:19That's that's what I'm curious to see is like, how many of
- 36:22those old movies actually like, play into Doomsday because like,
- 36:26like the versions of the X-Men that we've gotten so far, Like,
- 36:28like Professor X was a completely different Professor X
- 36:31in Doctor Strange. And like, I mean, obviously
- 36:35Deadpool and Wolverine were the same, but that's, you know, it
- 36:37was part of the story. And yeah, like, like, I'm really
- 36:40curious. And I mean, good for Ian
- 36:43McKellen for like, for doing this at freaking 87 years old.
- 36:46I mean, that dude is a freaking rock star.
- 36:48Between that and him still playing Gandalf, I mean like,
- 36:53good for him. It stresses me out what he's
- 36:55doing 'cause it's like. It's a lot of work for a guy.
- 36:58He's a lot of work and it's like you're just so seasoned.
- 37:03You're well seasoned and it's like, I don't want you to
- 37:06overwork yourself. And it's, and I'm just like, you
- 37:09know, it's Magneto. Yeah.
- 37:12He's a part of our culture. Absolutely, and especially after
- 37:15all the good Magneto stuff we've gotten recently.
- 37:17Like I mean, doomsday is going to be the event of the decade.
- 37:22Like I can already tell I can't. I can't wait for I don't know
- 37:25how much of the new trailers I'm going to want to watch.
- 37:27I know I'm going to have to because it's my job and
- 37:30everything, but like I'm I'm not going to like go seeking out
- 37:34vendors, doomsday promo material because I want to go in as fresh
- 37:37as I possibly can and like experiences with the world.
- 37:40It's going to, it's going to be an event.
- 37:42I'm going to be actively searching for spoilers and
- 37:47everything and I want I I'm going to go in very
- 37:50knowledgeable but still like that always makes me more
- 37:53excited if the more I know. Yeah, usually if I, if I find
- 37:56out about spoilers, either I'll forget about it in the day or
- 37:59two and like not even worry about it or like pop up in my
- 38:01brain later or I'll just like I'll just get really excited for
- 38:05it and you know, it'll help out. Yeah.
- 38:08So do you have a theory about Avengers Doomsday?
- 38:13Theory about Doomsday. Well, one thought I do have.
- 38:18I think the Young Avengers and like young kid characters in
- 38:21this movie are going to be important because obviously,
- 38:24obviously Franklin Richards is going to be a huge part of this
- 38:27movie considering he's probably the most powerful being in the
- 38:31multiverse. And also on that note, I want to
- 38:34shout out my parents too, for giving me the middle name
- 38:36Franklin because they had no idea that that that was going to
- 38:42be part of my life like that. My name was going to be Richard
- 38:45Franklin and it was going to be important in the comic book
- 38:47movie world. It was written in the stars.
- 38:50It it, it must have been, honestly.
- 38:52I was named after my grandma and my, my, my parents.
- 38:55God bless them. They don't.
- 38:56They don't know anything about comic movies.
- 38:59But but seriously, like I mean, Franklin Rich is going to be
- 39:03there. We know love is going to be
- 39:04there from Love and Thunder. And I feel like there's going to
- 39:08be more come. We might get like the young
- 39:10T'challa back. There's rumors about like them
- 39:13maybe recasting for an older T'challa coming in.
- 39:16I feel like the kids in this movie, however many of them
- 39:19there may be, are going to be important in the plot.
- 39:23I mean, it's obviously Doom's going after Franklin for his
- 39:25power and everything, and he's going to be important with the
- 39:28whole multiverse thing, but I feel like he's not going to be
- 39:31the only one that's important. I think kids have a big are a
- 39:37big deal in this movie, but I don't think it's just because
- 39:39they're kids. I think it's doom is going after
- 39:42incursions and bringing them to battle world.
- 39:44So love never supposed to be Thors daughter.
- 39:48She is a Captain America. Steve Rogers never supposed to
- 39:52have a kid, but he went back in time and did all that.
- 39:56Franklin Richards, he's a little incursion on his own.
- 39:59He's just his own little thing. And it's like all of these tiny
- 40:04little things like I would not be surprised that if Wiccan was
- 40:07in the movie because he's an incursion, he wasn't supposed to
- 40:11happen. So that's what I think it'll be
- 40:13because you everyone can see that there was a very big
- 40:18pattern of children in those trailers, which I still don't
- 40:23think. I think only one of them's in
- 40:25the movie, like the Wakanda one. That's it.
- 40:28But. Yeah, I can.
- 40:29I can see that. The meeting between Mbaku and
- 40:31Ben. Yeah, that makes sense because
- 40:34that's actually call back to the comics because yeah, we all know
- 40:38that. And but the other ones, they're
- 40:42all about children. They Captain Mayor's kid, Thor's
- 40:46child, and then the X-Men, who are the children of the Atom.
- 40:51So it's like. Yeah, and Scott Summers, who's,
- 40:54you know, one of the most famous parents in the MCU having, you
- 40:57know, Gene. If they've had, I mean, we need
- 41:00to know where he's at because he could be apparent to many or,
- 41:05well, three, but or he could be apparent to none.
- 41:07But he's also Charles Xavier calls them his children.
- 41:11Yeah, absolutely. So it's like.
- 41:14And also, what is Scott so mad about?
- 41:17Oh, yeah. I mean, I mean that he, he
- 41:19looked like he was ready to kill somebody.
- 41:22You know what that means? Someone killed Jean.
- 41:26Again. Again, she dies so much and
- 41:29that's all right. They all, they all do.
- 41:31How many times does Professor X die now?
- 41:34Not enough apparently. What is that?
- 41:39Yeah. Oh God, I think it's, I don't
- 41:42think we're ready. Like I don't think we're going
- 41:44to be ready. And I know, I know, like my
- 41:48anxiety and excitement is going to kick in as soon as they start
- 41:50showing those popcorn buckets. I am done.
- 41:54I am. I am throwing hands because I
- 41:56remember what you people, not you, what you people did during
- 42:02Fantastic Four. And I've been looking for a
- 42:04Herbie popcorn bucket on eBay. I checked twice a week at the
- 42:09beginning and the end of the week just to see because that's
- 42:12how bad I want it. And you bastards hook them the
- 42:16first day. There's only one other movie
- 42:19where I can't wait to find out what the popcorn bucket is, and
- 42:21that's Spaceballs 2 in 2027. Because.
- 42:24Because we're going to get Spaceballs the popcorn bucket,
- 42:27and it's going to be freaking glorious.
- 42:29I didn't. Think about that.
- 42:32I forgot that was happening. Oh my gosh.
- 42:34Outside of Secret Wars in 27, that's probably the movie I
- 42:38can't wait for most. And we don't even know most of
- 42:41the movies are coming out in 2027.
- 42:43I'm tired. Like we have a, we have a we
- 42:45have. 2026 to get through and. We're not even there.
- 42:49Like it's smart. It's like we've had, we haven't
- 42:51even gotten a full Daredevil trailer.
- 42:53Yeah, we've had what, 2-3 big movies come out so far and
- 42:57that's about it. I don't even know all the days
- 43:02they're like. Yeah, I mean, what project?
- 43:03Hell, Mary just came out. Well, that's right.
- 43:05Hoppers is this week for Pixar. Yeah, it's almost 100% on Rotten
- 43:09Tomatoes. That's.
- 43:10Why, Yeah, people love it. Everybody I've seen like is
- 43:13really, really looking forward to that one.
- 43:14So that one should be fun. I like when the people like the
- 43:18movies that are just like, yeah, really like a kid one and it's
- 43:21like, yeah, it's really good. That makes me happy.
- 43:23I. Don't, I mean, it's Pixar.
- 43:24How often have they like, dropped the ball?
- 43:27True, true. They do.
- 43:29They do good work. They do good work.
- 43:31So we have had such a fun conversation.
