Latest / Revelio: A Wizarding World Podcast / Episode 42: First Look at the Making of the "Harry Potter" HBO Show
Transcript
- 0:11Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome to episode forty two of Revellio for
- 0:15Speaker 1: April sixteenth, twenty twenty six.
- 0:30Speaker 2: I'm Amy, I'm Nicole, and I'm Lucy.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Yay, Lucy's back.
- 0:36Speaker 2: Thanks for joining us, Lucy, I'm so excited for this episode. Yes, okay,
- 0:41Speaker 2: I'm telling Amy.
- 0:45Speaker 1: We knew what we were talking about, and we're like,
- 0:47Speaker 1: we got to get Lucy on this one. But you
- 0:51Speaker 1: may have noticed that Tom has been absent for the
- 0:55Speaker 1: past couple episodes, so we just wanted to let you
- 0:57Speaker 1: know he is fine, he is doing well. He's just
- 1:00Speaker 1: taking a short break from the show and we hope
- 1:03Speaker 1: he'll be back soon.
- 1:05Speaker 3: So we're having a little another detour of our episode topic.
- 1:11Speaker 3: We were, as you guys know, we mentioned in our
- 1:13Speaker 3: last episode last week we were going to be discussing
- 1:17Speaker 3: Professor Lupin, and then we told you guys in last
- 1:21Speaker 3: week's episode that we were going to be talking about
- 1:23Speaker 3: Professor Lupin in our next episode, and poor Professor Lupin
- 1:28Speaker 3: continues to have a very rough night because he's getting
- 1:33Speaker 3: the boot to our next episode because things have happened
- 1:37Speaker 3: in between like our last episode. So in this episode,
- 1:42Speaker 3: we will be discussing the HBO Behind the Scenes special
- 1:46Speaker 3: finding Harry the Craft behind the Magic. But first.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Listening to w W in the Wizarding Wirely Network No
- 2:01Speaker 2: for the latest headlines.
- 2:03Speaker 1: Okay, so we have a couple news items, not too
- 2:06Speaker 1: much though. First off, Tom Felton is extending his Broadway
- 2:12Speaker 1: run into November first, twenty twenty six. So originally we
- 2:18Speaker 1: know he was going to be in the role through March,
- 2:20Speaker 1: and then that got extended to May, and so this
- 2:25Speaker 1: is the second extension, and the show cites high demand
- 2:28Speaker 1: for tickets as the reason.
- 2:33Speaker 2: That's fit.
- 2:36Speaker 1: The stage store continues to be a little bit crazy.
- 2:39Speaker 3: It's going to continue to be longer. But I'm like
- 2:42Speaker 3: both surprised by this but not surprised, Like, I'm definitely
- 2:44Speaker 3: not surprised that it's extending. I am surprised that it's
- 2:47Speaker 3: extending for this long. Yeah, so he will be doing
- 2:50Speaker 3: almost pretty much a full year run.
- 2:52Speaker 1: I would have expected in like July or something like that.
- 2:56Speaker 2: But yeah, I've gotta get old summer months gonna write
- 3:00Speaker 2: and old cash. Yes, Honestly, I was thinking about the
- 3:05Speaker 2: other day. I was like, I do want to see
- 3:06Speaker 2: Kiss Child again because it is a like if you
- 3:09Speaker 2: just ignored story. It is a great production.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Yes, well you'll have to come see it, and then
- 3:16Speaker 1: that'll be mine and Nicole's reason for going again, because
- 3:20Speaker 1: like we gotta go see it with Lucy.
- 3:23Speaker 3: I mean, yeah, we've already talked about like going again
- 3:25Speaker 3: when they extended it till May, and then now all
- 3:28Speaker 3: of a sudden it's mid April and clearly we had
- 3:31Speaker 3: no plans, and now that it's November.
- 3:35Speaker 2: Yeah. Fun fact up into New York twice and never
- 3:37Speaker 2: seen a Broadway shirt sir, Oh no.
- 3:42Speaker 3: Yeah, that's really fair though, because like I live five
- 3:45Speaker 3: hours north of New York and I had never really
- 3:50Speaker 3: gone either until actually the thing that got me finally
- 3:54Speaker 3: down to New York was when Dan was in How
- 3:56Speaker 3: to Succeed. That was my first time in New York City.
- 3:58Speaker 2: So yeah, I feel like Dan will be the reason
- 4:02Speaker 2: why go and see Broadway, because like I did the
- 4:04Speaker 2: Mass when I was lasting New York and it was
- 4:07Speaker 2: actually cheaper for me just to see when it came
- 4:09Speaker 2: to Australia. So it's like there's no point because these
- 4:13Speaker 2: shows will come to Australia and they have and I've
- 4:16Speaker 2: seen the Australian version. Sounds like I think I'll just
- 4:20Speaker 2: go and see Daniel Roycliffero Broadway because you know he's
- 4:22Speaker 2: not stopping anytime soon.
- 4:25Speaker 1: I would love to see his one man show same
- 4:29Speaker 1: I reckon.
- 4:29Speaker 2: He just does a world tour of it, just pitching it.
- 4:33Speaker 1: Yes. Speaking of Dan Radcliffe, his Tony Award winning performance
- 4:42Speaker 1: of Merrily We Roll Along is now streaming on Netflix.
- 4:46Speaker 1: So the pro shot is of the original cast, including Dan,
- 4:51Speaker 1: Jonathan Groff, and Lindsay Mendes. The Stephen Sinheim Musical is
- 4:55Speaker 1: a revival, with the original first being performed in nineteen
- 4:59Speaker 1: eighty one. The show was reworked and revived over the
- 5:03Speaker 1: years in various places, with the off Broadway revival with Radcliffe,
- 5:09Speaker 1: Graff and Mendes opening in twenty twenty two, and then
- 5:12Speaker 1: it moved on Broadway in twenty twenty three, and it
- 5:16Speaker 1: ran at the Hudson Theater until the show closed in
- 5:19Speaker 1: twenty twenty four. So over that time it was nominated
- 5:23Speaker 1: for and won a bunch of Tony's, including Dan Radcliffe's
- 5:27Speaker 1: win for Best Featured Actor in a Musical in twenty
- 5:30Speaker 1: twenty four.
- 5:32Speaker 2: That's on my to watch list today, yep. I'm so
- 5:36Speaker 2: excited to see it.
- 5:38Speaker 1: I was so sad I missed it when they put
- 5:40Speaker 1: it in movie theaters and now I get to watch it.
- 5:44Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:44Speaker 2: I feel like they should do this a lot with shows,
- 5:47Speaker 2: Like I get they don't deal with shows that are
- 5:48Speaker 2: still running, but like shows that have come and gone,
- 5:53Speaker 2: they should put them out somewhere. Yeah, it's fun. Well
- 5:57Speaker 2: even with Hamilton, they've put that on Disney and still tickets,
- 6:00Speaker 2: so it's like, come on, give me the original cast
- 6:03Speaker 2: of Curse Child exactly.
- 6:06Speaker 1: I think when you do it and it's still running,
- 6:09Speaker 1: if you put out the one with the original cast,
- 6:11Speaker 1: that's like the incentive.
- 6:13Speaker 2: Well, especially since I can't see them anymore. Yeah, and
- 6:16Speaker 2: the original production is not going. I think it ends
- 6:19Speaker 2: in June or something this summer in London. Yeah, and
- 6:23Speaker 2: it's like perfect opportunity, right.
- 6:26Speaker 3: Right, They need to just I Yeah. I think we
- 6:28Speaker 3: talked about that in like our Curse Child episode two,
- 6:30Speaker 3: Like I really really really hope that they recorded that
- 6:34Speaker 3: two parter before it's gone forever, and.
- 6:36Speaker 2: I'm sure they did with the original cast.
- 6:39Speaker 3: I remember hearing that too, So like now they just
- 6:43Speaker 3: need to put it out. And I remember at one
- 6:44Speaker 3: point I think there was some weird like movie deal
- 6:47Speaker 3: kind of thing that was talked about with it, and
- 6:49Speaker 3: so like there was all these rumors that it was
- 6:51Speaker 3: going to get put out and then it just kind
- 6:53Speaker 3: of like died away. But I agree, I hope that
- 6:56Speaker 3: this is like the start of them putting these shows
- 7:00Speaker 3: out more because to your point, right, if they can
- 7:02Speaker 3: capture the original cast, that's great, and also it's such
- 7:05Speaker 3: a good opportunity for people who can't easily get to
- 7:08Speaker 3: shows to still be able to see shows. And no,
- 7:11Speaker 3: it's not the same as seeing it in person, but
- 7:14Speaker 3: it's also still better than not seeing it at all.
- 7:16Speaker 1: So yeah, yeah, well maybe after Tom's run in November,
- 7:24Speaker 1: because right now they're not going to want to put
- 7:26Speaker 1: it out because they're going to want the most people
- 7:28Speaker 1: possible to go see it in person with Tom Felt.
- 7:31Speaker 2: But he's also doing the one part. I'm talking about
- 7:33Speaker 2: the two part.
- 7:34Speaker 3: Two parts that with the original cast, and.
- 7:37Speaker 2: It's only in London for like a couple of months
- 7:40Speaker 2: that like anywhere in the world are doing the two
- 7:42Speaker 2: partter So I just want to rewatch the gain because
- 7:47Speaker 2: I don't remember what happens in tupat like Walco Cut we.
- 7:50Speaker 3: Talked about that like on our course held episode because
- 7:52Speaker 3: it's been now, like, gosh, how many years since I've
- 7:55Speaker 3: seen the two parter.
- 7:56Speaker 2: And well, I saw it in twenty nineteen in Australia.
- 8:00Speaker 3: Yeah, I saw it in Lent, like right when it
- 8:02Speaker 3: first opened, like during previews, so gosh, whenever that was now.
- 8:06Speaker 3: But sometimes when I go see it, I'll remember like
- 8:08Speaker 3: a little bit and I'm like, there was more here
- 8:10Speaker 3: with Hagrid somewhere, or like I remember like like an
- 8:13Speaker 3: extra scene here and there. But I hate that it's
- 8:16Speaker 3: like gone from my memory. I'll have to I still
- 8:19Speaker 3: have the original like script, like the pre preview script book.
- 8:25Speaker 3: I'll have to like at some point go back and
- 8:26Speaker 3: read that just to like refresh and like tab all
- 8:29Speaker 3: the things that I don't that are not in the
- 8:31Speaker 3: show now.
- 8:32Speaker 2: Yeah, that's so true, because I got my two part
- 8:34Speaker 2: of one and the one part of one m h.
- 8:37Speaker 2: So that'll be curious. And I saw both original strength
- 8:40Speaker 2: toss for both of them, so that'll be interesting to
- 8:42Speaker 2: look at these. I don't know what about that.
- 8:44Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I see it on my shelf all the
- 8:46Speaker 3: time and I'm like, hmm, right there, probably gives me
- 8:48Speaker 3: like what the original show was like.
- 8:50Speaker 1: But it's so much effort.
- 8:52Speaker 3: It's so much effort, and then it's not the same
- 8:54Speaker 3: reading it right, Like it's just you're just reminded by
- 8:57Speaker 3: how much things of the story are kind of aren't
- 8:59Speaker 3: right when you're reading it versus when you're seeing it right.
- 9:02Speaker 3: So one day, but.
- 9:08Speaker 1: All right, So we have a couple of fun things
- 9:10Speaker 1: for butter beer season as well. A Walmart in McKinney,
- 9:15Speaker 1: Texas has a butter beer parlor set up until May. Second.
- 9:22Speaker 1: This looks really fun. I keep seeing it pop up
- 9:24Speaker 1: on social media. Super random.
- 9:28Speaker 3: I saw it on social media, and I'm like, is
- 9:30Speaker 3: this real, like real, like official or question? And then
- 9:34Speaker 3: I was like, it's it has to be because it's
- 9:36Speaker 3: in like a store. Yeah, it's It's the most random thing.
- 9:40Speaker 2: But that's me with this next point at the butt
- 9:43Speaker 2: of beer. That's what I feel. Someone's like, this is
- 9:46Speaker 2: so random.
- 9:48Speaker 3: Well, and then it's just the fact that it's in
- 9:49Speaker 3: just this one Walmart in Texas, Like I'm just so confused.
- 9:54Speaker 1: Like why that Walmart?
- 9:55Speaker 2: Right?
- 9:57Speaker 3: Lucky you guys, if you live anywhere near McKinney, Texas,
- 9:59Speaker 3: please go on our behalf. But like I just want
- 10:03Speaker 3: to know the thought process behind behind us.
- 10:07Speaker 1: So weird. Yeah, but then there's also a traveling butterbeer
- 10:12Speaker 1: truck that's making its way around the stops scheduled in Pittsburgh, PA, Melbourne, Australia, Lucy,
- 10:21Speaker 1: to go check it out.
- 10:21Speaker 2: We're confused by that it's at It's at Chadston, by
- 10:26Speaker 2: the way, So if anybody's in Melbourne, it's at Chadston,
- 10:29Speaker 2: the largest shopping center in the northern in the Southern Hemisphere. Okay,
- 10:33Speaker 2: it's well so random. They also have another Harry Potter
- 10:37Speaker 2: thing happening out there, so I don't know if that's
- 10:40Speaker 2: in conjunction with it. Again, that popped up on my feet.
- 10:44Speaker 2: So yeah.
- 10:49Speaker 1: So it's also got stops in Brazil. Uh, two stops
- 10:54Speaker 1: in Ohio because why not, Cleveland and Columbus, Detroit, Indianapolis, Louisville, Kentucky,
- 11:02Speaker 1: and more dates to come. I saw it's gonna be
- 11:06Speaker 1: in Melbourne twice, so you got two chances here, Lucy.
- 11:09Speaker 2: No, it's here multiple times. It's like here for a
- 11:13Speaker 2: couple of weekends. I looked because I went through the
- 11:16Speaker 2: list and I was like, this is so weird. It's
- 11:18Speaker 2: like here this weekend, next weekend, the weekend after like.
- 11:21Speaker 3: Because that's what I'm just gonna be there. Like they're
- 11:23Speaker 3: talking about this being a truck moving around, but it's
- 11:26Speaker 3: like going from like America to Australia, like we can't
- 11:28Speaker 3: drive a truck there. It's the most random like list like,
- 11:32Speaker 3: so you probably just get your own truck and you're like, well,
- 11:35Speaker 3: we're just going to keep this here for a couple
- 11:36Speaker 3: of weeks because where else are we going to drive it?
- 11:39Speaker 3: Probably that's with Brazil right right where if the American stops,
- 11:44Speaker 3: they can actually move it.
- 11:46Speaker 2: Drive it. Yeah, so that that happened. It's like randomly
- 11:53Speaker 2: one weekend the night bus popped up in Sydney and
- 11:56Speaker 2: so this is weird and just get that weekend and
- 12:00Speaker 2: it's going between like some stuff in the CBD too,
- 12:02Speaker 2: I think BONDI I was like, what is going on?
- 12:06Speaker 1: Well, it's like there's this bus that keeps parking downtown
- 12:11Speaker 1: where I live, like but like in a weird place
- 12:14Speaker 1: like in this like random parking lot like behind buildings,
- 12:18Speaker 1: and it's a curse child bus and I like keep
- 12:22Speaker 1: seeing it and I'm like why why, Like you are
- 12:27Speaker 1: too far north from the city right now, there's no
- 12:32Speaker 1: touring production of this nearby. I can't imagine. This is
- 12:36Speaker 1: just like a bus that drives around like a public
- 12:42Speaker 1: transit bus. It's like plastered in Curse Child. It's really weird.
- 12:47Speaker 3: You need to go back to your investigative journalism days
- 12:50Speaker 3: because I'm so confused.
- 12:53Speaker 2: I need to know. I've got a feeling that someone
- 12:57Speaker 2: just bought the bus with the Curse Child stuff on.
- 12:59Speaker 2: It just went your mind now, right.
- 13:03Speaker 3: But they're just parking in a but random parking lots
- 13:07Speaker 3: in an upstate New York city.
- 13:08Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know, because the first time I saw it,
- 13:11Speaker 1: I was like, oh, is it touring nearby? And like
- 13:14Speaker 1: they like it's just parked there. No, And like I've
- 13:18Speaker 1: seen it a couple of times, and it's so confusing.
- 13:24Speaker 1: I need to find out more work my sources.
- 13:29Speaker 3: Right, I said, you've got you can do it. If
- 13:31Speaker 3: anyone is equipped to figure it out, it's certainly you.
- 13:35Speaker 1: I'll report back if I get any more information.
- 13:38Speaker 3: But don't don't like, you know, go up to it,
- 13:40Speaker 3: because I've just like, what if this is some random
- 13:43Speaker 3: Joshmo that, like Lucy said, like, bought this truck and
- 13:46Speaker 3: is like trying to Lureen for the next episode, I'll
- 13:54Speaker 3: drive down and find her.
- 13:56Speaker 2: Okay, next episode is just gonna be way.
- 14:02Speaker 1: I'll just see the bus going down the highway with
- 14:04Speaker 1: like my face plastered in the back.
- 14:06Speaker 2: Window reporting live from the highway.
- 14:11Speaker 3: Yeah, you'll have me Like I'll get a dash cam
- 14:14Speaker 3: and I'll make a documentary out of it, and like,
- 14:16Speaker 3: because I'm not video inclined, it will be shaky and
- 14:20Speaker 3: like found the.
- 14:20Speaker 1: Footage finding Amy the chase behind the bus.
- 14:27Speaker 2: Is she the curse child?
- 14:31Speaker 1: Oh yeah. So lastly, this item of news is actually
- 14:41Speaker 1: what we're going to discuss in main discussion, So not
- 14:44Speaker 1: going to spend a lot of time on it. But
- 14:47Speaker 1: HBO aired behind the scenes look at the upcoming TV
- 14:51Speaker 1: series and it was it's called Finding Harry, the Craft
- 14:55Speaker 1: behind the Magic, and this aired on April fifth.
- 15:00Speaker 3: I also love how we got like no notice of this.
- 15:02Speaker 3: It was like, hey, this is driving in a couple
- 15:04Speaker 3: of days.
- 15:05Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, super random, but much appreciated all the same.
- 15:11Speaker 2: It was a great day.
- 15:14Speaker 3: I did say too. It's like one of the top
- 15:17Speaker 3: like streaming. It's I mean they're considering it a movie
- 15:20Speaker 3: on HBO because of like the way they do their categories.
- 15:22Speaker 3: But it's like this top streamed movie on like HBO
- 15:26Speaker 3: Max or one of the top three.
- 15:28Speaker 2: It was very interesting. I don't know if it's the
- 15:31Speaker 2: same for you guys, but when I went to go
- 15:33Speaker 2: and watch it second time, which I think was the
- 15:35Speaker 2: day later, it popped up on like you know, top
- 15:39Speaker 2: ten in your region and then number two to I
- 15:43Speaker 2: think there was like out of all the ten to
- 15:46Speaker 2: five of them were the first tiphles.
- 15:49Speaker 3: Yeah. When I went to watch it last night again,
- 15:54Speaker 3: it came up and the other thing that came up
- 15:56Speaker 3: next to it was I don't know if you guys
- 15:58Speaker 3: got this in HBO in Austria, Lucy, but the like
- 16:01Speaker 3: twenty five years of Magic special that they did when
- 16:04Speaker 3: Dan Labour and Emma came back and did some interviews
- 16:07Speaker 3: and stuff that was up next to it. So people
- 16:09Speaker 3: are just in their Harry Potter documentary era right now
- 16:12Speaker 3: and I love it.
- 16:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I love it as well. It's so cool how
- 16:16Speaker 2: excited they face is getting again. Yeah.
- 16:22Speaker 1: All right, So that's it for the news. Want more

- 16:49Speaker 1: So continuing on with our discussion of this Finding Harry documentary.
- 16:56Speaker 1: So this was very short and sweet. It was only
- 17:01Speaker 1: thirty minutes long, but there was a lot packed in there. Yeah.
- 17:09Speaker 1: What were your guys's like initial reactions to actually seeing this?
- 17:12Speaker 1: Is it what you expected it to be?
- 17:15Speaker 2: No, it was. I didn't expect him to go so
- 17:18Speaker 2: deep so early. Like I thought it was just going
- 17:21Speaker 2: to be about the casting process and a lot to
- 17:24Speaker 2: do with how they found the main cast plus the
- 17:27Speaker 2: other cast. I didn't expect him to go so far.
- 17:31Speaker 2: It also shows so much It is so cool. Yeah.
- 17:39Speaker 1: Yeah, they really did show a lot of detail. And
- 17:43Speaker 1: it's funny because it's been so like obviously top secret
- 17:48Speaker 1: for so long, and it was just like, here's like everything.
- 17:52Speaker 2: Yeah, especially being still what eight months out from release
- 17:57Speaker 2: and we don't even have a full trailer yet, we
- 17:59Speaker 2: only have the tea just to build off the teaser
- 18:03Speaker 2: so close I felt, I don't know for other people,
- 18:07Speaker 2: but because the teaser, it's a teaser, it's just to
- 18:10Speaker 2: build hype and not so much to build off that
- 18:15Speaker 2: and actually go into because I heard that a lot
- 18:18Speaker 2: of people just like, where's the magic, where are the creatures?
- 18:20Speaker 2: Where all that stuff? To show like we actually did
- 18:24Speaker 2: all this stuff. It's not CGI, which I was afraid of.
- 18:28Speaker 2: I was afraid they were going to do a lot
- 18:29Speaker 2: of CGI, especially like with the buildings and the creatures
- 18:32Speaker 2: to show it's like, nope, we actually built the sets.
- 18:35Speaker 2: We built the creatures is pretty much extension of the films.
- 18:41Speaker 2: It was incredible, you see.
- 18:44Speaker 1: It's very reassuring.
- 18:47Speaker 2: Because I did feel like with the teaser, hearing it
- 18:49Speaker 2: from a lot of other people who don't really know,
- 18:53Speaker 2: who didn't really understand what the teaser was, how they
- 18:56Speaker 2: were just like, oh yeah, we didn't get like, you know,
- 18:58Speaker 2: the magic, the spells and all that really stuff that
- 19:02Speaker 2: Ma said Harry Potter, they were very excited when they
- 19:07Speaker 2: saw the documentary because it's like, oh, actually we're not
- 19:11Speaker 2: getting that. It's just they haven't filming.
- 19:14Speaker 3: Of course we're getting that, guys. That's Harry Potter and
- 19:17Speaker 3: Amy and I talked a lot about that last week too,
- 19:19Speaker 3: or last episode, and you know, in our thoughts of
- 19:22Speaker 3: the trailer, and I won't go too deep, I guess
- 19:24Speaker 3: and how I thought this, because I did put a
- 19:26Speaker 3: question at the end to kind of get our overall
- 19:28Speaker 3: thoughts on it, so it's kind of kind of a
- 19:30Speaker 3: different question than when you asked Amy, But I think
- 19:32Speaker 3: that my I agree. I was really surprised by how
- 19:36Speaker 3: much they showed, especially because like I don't know some
- 19:39Speaker 3: of it. You'd think you'd want to like keep under
- 19:41Speaker 3: wraps until it's seen on screen for the first time, right,
- 19:44Speaker 3: So this very much felt like something you'd absolutely get
- 19:48Speaker 3: like after the season is out, And I think this
- 19:51Speaker 3: is the very first time I've ever seen a behind
- 19:53Speaker 3: the scenes thing like this before we've even seen yeah, exactly.
- 19:59Speaker 2: Like that's why I was so shocked that we got
- 20:01Speaker 2: so much. Yeah, But I guess it's like there's no
- 20:05Speaker 2: point in hiding it because everybody really knows what Harry
- 20:07Speaker 2: Potter is. Everybody knows the story, and it's like there's
- 20:11Speaker 2: going to be parts of the story people don't who
- 20:13Speaker 2: just watch the films don't know which will be a
- 20:16Speaker 2: big surprise for them, But we already know what the
- 20:20Speaker 2: filmmakers are capable of doing. Plus we had fantastic beasts,
- 20:23Speaker 2: which also enhanced all the technology. Again, so I think
- 20:28Speaker 2: there was still just like, there's no point how hiding it.
- 20:30Speaker 2: We may as well show them and get them hyped.
- 20:33Speaker 1: Right, there's no spoil Yeah, there's.
- 20:36Speaker 2: No spoilers, right.
- 20:38Speaker 3: I think that it's Yeah. I think that it's very
- 20:41Speaker 3: like strategic on their behalf, because obviously they're also having
- 20:45Speaker 3: to go up against like a lot of people being
- 20:49Speaker 3: like understandably like critical and like nervous about the show
- 20:54Speaker 3: and you know, remaking this and remaking it so soon.
- 20:58Speaker 3: So I think that and again I'll talk about this
- 21:00Speaker 3: definitely more later with the overall thoughts, but I think
- 21:04Speaker 3: that there was strategy in putting this out when they did.
- 21:08Speaker 3: And I think if I'm picking up on the strategy
- 21:11Speaker 3: that I hope was their strategy, I think it worked,
- 21:16Speaker 3: especially for me. But it's yeah, I think that it
- 21:21Speaker 3: is part of this building hype because I hope that
- 21:24Speaker 3: like maybe some people that were maybe like more skeptical,
- 21:27Speaker 3: like maybe aren't now like you said, Lucy, like people
- 21:29Speaker 3: that were like where's the magic and the teaser trailer
- 21:32Speaker 3: and then it's like here it is, like, you know,
- 21:34Speaker 3: shot after shot in the behind the scenes. Hopefully maybe
- 21:38Speaker 3: that like builds hype or also really just yeah, differentiating
- 21:45Speaker 3: themselves right from the film, but also being like, this
- 21:48Speaker 3: is still the same world that you love, like here
- 21:50Speaker 3: it is, and yeah, I mean, I'm glad you had it, and.
- 21:55Speaker 2: I'm so glad I like to hear your points of
- 21:57Speaker 2: view because I didn't grow up with the books. I
- 22:01Speaker 2: was just a tad too young when they were coming out.
- 22:04Speaker 2: And I didn't grow up with the films either, because
- 22:06Speaker 2: again I was too young and I only really saw
- 22:08Speaker 2: the last two in cinema, and for me, this is
- 22:12Speaker 2: sort of like my version of growing up with them.
- 22:16Speaker 2: So that's why I'm also very excited because I didn't
- 22:18Speaker 2: get to go through that high like I sort of
- 22:20Speaker 2: came at the end of it. And I love that
- 22:23Speaker 2: they're like from you guys point of view, that you
- 22:26Speaker 2: guys are so excited now for it, because I guess
- 22:29Speaker 2: you guys did grow up with it and it was
- 22:33Speaker 2: coming out when you like, at the same time, it's
- 22:36Speaker 2: hard to explain, Yeah.
- 22:37Speaker 3: I sadly, Yeah, I was seven years old when the
- 22:41Speaker 3: first book came out, and I was there from the
- 22:43Speaker 3: through it, through it all, so yeah, so yeah.
- 22:45Speaker 2: I understand why there was a lot of concern for like,
- 22:51Speaker 2: especially older people who did do it, And yeah, I
- 22:56Speaker 2: was concerned as well, like with technology and stuff, but
- 22:58Speaker 2: it in a really different way. Like I love the films,
- 23:02Speaker 2: I love the books, but I'm not that attached to
- 23:07Speaker 2: the films because I think I'm sort of a bit removed.
- 23:10Speaker 2: Like I came in like I got to binge watch
- 23:12Speaker 2: them basically. So with this one, I'm gonna it's gonna
- 23:17Speaker 2: be like, oh, get to go with the hype, Like
- 23:19Speaker 2: especially it's gonna be one per week, be it's like,
- 23:21Speaker 2: oh my god, what's gonna happen? Like this is gonna
- 23:23Speaker 2: be so exciting.
- 23:25Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I mean it's interesting because like I feel
- 23:31Speaker 3: that way too, like in terms of excitement. And we
- 23:34Speaker 3: touched on this a little bit like on our episode
- 23:36Speaker 3: last week too about like I'm I am really glad
- 23:40Speaker 3: that I feel that way, because, Yeah, to your point
- 23:44Speaker 3: that it is, I guess it can be very different
- 23:48Speaker 3: if you grew up with it. I mean obviously, especially
- 23:50Speaker 3: if you went to the night release parties and all that.
- 23:54Speaker 3: It's like part of the entire experience, Right, It's not
- 23:56Speaker 3: just the films, it's the whole experience of it. And
- 24:00Speaker 3: I'll never trade going through that, right. I think that
- 24:03Speaker 3: was such a formative part of my Harry Potter lifelong
- 24:07Speaker 3: fandom and something that will not really be present in
- 24:11Speaker 3: that way with the show since it's just streaming, right,
- 24:15Speaker 3: So I'm so glad for that, and yeah, but I'm yeah,
- 24:21Speaker 3: I'm really excited. And I think that we'll probably touch
- 24:24Speaker 3: on this a little bit more too, in terms of
- 24:25Speaker 3: like what they've talked about in terms of like new
- 24:29Speaker 3: fans and like introducing this world to new fans or
- 24:33Speaker 3: even like you Lucy, someone who kind of got on
- 24:35Speaker 3: kind of later, but also like really still honoring as oldies.
- 24:43Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, we'll talk about lighter as well. But I
- 24:46Speaker 2: loved how a lot of them was saying, like my
- 24:50Speaker 2: kids are going to grow up with this, it's their
- 24:53Speaker 2: version now, or like we say, we're again talk about later,
- 24:59Speaker 2: but a lot of the original film makers and artists
- 25:03Speaker 2: now their kids are on the next one, or like
- 25:05Speaker 2: they were apprentices during the first ones. It's like very
- 25:08Speaker 2: much a whole growing up. But yeah, I do wish
- 25:13Speaker 2: that I got to experience the midlight releases. That would
- 25:15Speaker 2: have been cool. Like I loved going to the cinema
- 25:17Speaker 2: to see the last two with my friends. In discussion,
- 25:19Speaker 2: we had so I'm just putting it out there. I reckon,
- 25:22Speaker 2: we should just all hop in a zoom cool. Watched
- 25:25Speaker 2: the first.
- 25:26Speaker 3: Episode when they dry.
- 25:28Speaker 1: Yeah, maybe we can run out a movie theater.
- 25:32Speaker 2: Well, I have a feater downstairs in my apartment buildings, so.
- 25:37Speaker 1: Perfect.
- 25:38Speaker 2: Come on over.
- 25:41Speaker 3: The plane here I happen on the butter beer truck. Yeah,
- 25:46Speaker 3: that's gonna drive me there.
- 25:51Speaker 1: Yeah. So a little bit about the special. It was
- 25:55Speaker 1: narrated by Nick Frost, who we know is playing Hagrid
- 25:59Speaker 1: in the show, and it shows various aspects of the
- 26:03Speaker 1: making of the upcoming Philosopher's Stone series, which we're going
- 26:07Speaker 1: to go through each of these aspects and some of
- 26:12Speaker 1: the info we learned during each of those sections. But
- 26:18Speaker 1: further still looks like, Nicole, you've got well.
- 26:21Speaker 3: And because when I was rewatching it, like we kind
- 26:23Speaker 3: of have it a little bit in order, like not
- 26:26Speaker 3: as much as we did in order when we went
- 26:28Speaker 3: through the trailer, but I just thought that this was
- 26:32Speaker 3: ironic because literally this is how the special opens, so
- 26:36Speaker 3: like we have to talk about it first. But last
- 26:39Speaker 3: episode we talked a lot about the Hogwarts crust, right,
- 26:43Speaker 3: Like that's such a big deal. I feel like for
- 26:47Speaker 3: Harry Potter fans, and you know, of course we saw
- 26:49Speaker 3: the little h with the trees on the patches, and
- 26:54Speaker 3: I think that maybe a lot of us were not
- 26:56Speaker 3: like initially a fan of that. My opinion on that
- 27:01Speaker 3: has absolutely changed now after watching this behind the scenes.
- 27:05Speaker 3: I actually really love the patch with the age. But
- 27:08Speaker 3: I'm also glad that it's not like our official Hogwarts crest.
- 27:12Speaker 3: And there is also an official Hogwarts crust in addition
- 27:15Speaker 3: to it, and we get to see it right in
- 27:17Speaker 3: the opening shots of this documentary where we get to
- 27:20Speaker 3: see Harry's letter. So it's it is very I mean,
- 27:25Speaker 3: it's very different.
- 27:27Speaker 1: Than much more detailed, much.
- 27:29Speaker 3: More detailed again still has We're going to talk a
- 27:32Speaker 3: ton about nature in this episode, but that is even
- 27:35Speaker 3: interwoven in this logo as well, with like the almost
- 27:39Speaker 3: looks like vines or like leaves. But wanted to kind
- 27:44Speaker 3: of just get everyone's opinion on this crest now that
- 27:48Speaker 3: we have it, and has your thought changed on the
- 27:51Speaker 3: other little subcrest we'll call it the subcrest.
- 27:55Speaker 2: Well, for me, the subcrest remind me of christ Child. Yeah,
- 28:00Speaker 2: and I was like, oh, okay, this is interesting. And
- 28:03Speaker 2: then I saw this crest. I was like, whoa, this
- 28:05Speaker 2: is so different, which is what I'm loving it. Like
- 28:10Speaker 2: they're very much distinguishing themselves a new designer, new everything,
- 28:15Speaker 2: and at first it's like where's the snake?
- 28:18Speaker 1: I now, I kind of wish that they used this
- 28:26Speaker 1: full crest on the robes, like this is beautiful with
- 28:30Speaker 1: the vines.
- 28:31Speaker 3: Like embroidered, it would look really pretty.
- 28:33Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 28:36Speaker 2: I wonder if it's just because it's so big and detailed,
- 28:39Speaker 2: it might just look two weird.
- 28:42Speaker 3: Small wonder too, if we'll get a colored version of
- 28:48Speaker 3: it or if it'll just be because obviously in the
- 28:51Speaker 3: shot we just see it like gold foiled on the ladder.
- 28:57Speaker 2: I don't see reason. I don't know how they do
- 29:00Speaker 2: a colored like. I think it will look weird colored.
- 29:03Speaker 2: I agree, you know, like gold is just beautiful and
- 29:06Speaker 2: just simple. Mm hmm. Like color makes sense for the
- 29:11Speaker 2: film version because it was a lot more. It was
- 29:15Speaker 2: like blocked divided. Yeah, but this, I think it'll just
- 29:19Speaker 2: look too tacky. Yeah.
- 29:21Speaker 3: I agree. It's very ornate and detailed, so I feel
- 29:24Speaker 3: like it makes sense to keep it neutral. Yeah. The
- 29:28Speaker 3: only thing I don't love about it is well, I
- 29:31Speaker 3: don't know. I guess my feelings have changed. Initially I
- 29:33Speaker 3: had the same thought. I'm like, but where's my snake?
- 29:36Speaker 3: Like as a Slytherin, I'm like, where is the snake?
- 29:39Speaker 3: Once you see it, you can't unsee it, right, But
- 29:43Speaker 3: I yeah, But then now that I see what they did.
- 29:47Speaker 3: And if you guys like listening, haven't seen this logo yet,
- 29:50Speaker 3: just if you google it, it'll come right up. But
- 29:51Speaker 3: the snake is literally like encircling the h in the
- 29:55Speaker 3: crest in the middle, and the head is kind of
- 29:58Speaker 3: down at the bottom where we have our motto. Yeah,
- 30:02Speaker 3: I don't know what they do call it, but so
- 30:05Speaker 3: I really I like what they did with it. Like,
- 30:08Speaker 3: now seeing it, I'm like, where else would they put
- 30:10Speaker 3: the snake? Like it works so well? But yeah, initially
- 30:13Speaker 3: it's like we forgot some of the right.
- 30:16Speaker 1: This badger is scary though.
- 30:19Speaker 3: I wanted to get your opinion on the badger. Amy.
- 30:22Speaker 3: As soon as I saw it, I'm like, ooh, what's
- 30:24Speaker 3: Amy gonna say of this badger?
- 30:25Speaker 1: Terrified?
- 30:26Speaker 2: I thought it was a wolf at fish.
- 30:27Speaker 1: I was like, that's not right, right, I thought it
- 30:29Speaker 1: was a griffin And I was like, but it can't
- 30:31Speaker 1: be because what why would it be a griffin. This
- 30:34Speaker 1: guy's a badger.
- 30:35Speaker 3: Yeah, it is not a traditional badger whatsoever.
- 30:39Speaker 1: He's ferocious.
- 30:41Speaker 3: It looks nothing like a badger, but at all.
- 30:45Speaker 1: I'm not mad. I mean, I'm kind of loving that
- 30:49Speaker 1: the badger has like this very prominent placement right across
- 30:54Speaker 1: from the lion. It's like we are on level footing
- 30:57Speaker 1: with the Gryffindors finally.
- 30:59Speaker 3: And so like, right, the badger and the lion are
- 31:02Speaker 3: so big, and then you've you know, you've got your
- 31:05Speaker 3: like the like raven claws just like perched up their smaller.
- 31:12Speaker 1: For us. Now we are moving up in the world.
- 31:15Speaker 2: You are slow and steady wins the race.
- 31:25Speaker 3: But yeah, I thought that that would be cool to
- 31:26Speaker 3: talk about right at the beginning, because that is literally
- 31:28Speaker 3: our opening shot of the documentary.
- 31:33Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, all right. So one of the first sections
- 31:37Speaker 1: that we get some info about is casting, and in
- 31:42Speaker 1: this part of the documentary they really detail the casting
- 31:47Speaker 1: process for the child actors and like specifically what they
- 31:52Speaker 1: were looking for, which I thought was really interesting.
- 31:56Speaker 2: Yeah, that's something you don't normally get when like you,
- 32:00Speaker 2: we don't get an insight really into how the casting
- 32:03Speaker 2: process really happened apart from like, oh, yeah, we went
- 32:05Speaker 2: to so and so and we saw this many people.
- 32:08Speaker 2: They actually went into detail what specifically they were looking for,
- 32:11Speaker 2: which is quite unique. They saw over forty thousand people,
- 32:17Speaker 2: which is well, they stopped counting at forty thousand.
- 32:20Speaker 4: Auditions, which is in thesane, and they went to multiple
- 32:26Speaker 4: locations throughout the UK, so just to remind people how
- 32:32Speaker 4: the casting process went.
- 32:35Speaker 2: Children could submit their auditions online and then they got
- 32:39Speaker 2: asked to go to it in person audition around the UK.
- 32:43Speaker 2: So I think they did five stops, if I remember correctly,
- 32:49Speaker 2: across England, Wales, Scotland and norman Land.
- 32:52Speaker 1: M Yeah, and like they said in the documentary, they
- 32:56Speaker 1: wanted to make sure every child had a chance to
- 33:00Speaker 1: audition who wanted to. So I think that's really cool
- 33:02Speaker 1: that they kept it so open and accessible. Yeah, because
- 33:07Speaker 1: you never know where you're going to find someone it's
- 33:09Speaker 1: going to be perfect, and it.
- 33:11Speaker 2: Was very much like throwback to how they originally did
- 33:13Speaker 2: it as well, like they went everywhere to find the
- 33:16Speaker 2: right people for it. And I thought that was amazing
- 33:19Speaker 2: and that they didn't care if they had experience or
- 33:23Speaker 2: they had no experience or what the experience was. It
- 33:26Speaker 2: was very much like if you're perfect for the role,
- 33:28Speaker 2: we're going to take you.
- 33:32Speaker 3: Well. And I think it was cool too that we
- 33:34Speaker 3: got to see like clips of like video auditions, because
- 33:38Speaker 3: I think typically like like kind of what you said, Lucy,
- 33:41Speaker 3: like you wouldn't really ever get insight into that. Like
- 33:44Speaker 3: I feel like sometimes we get clips of video auditions
- 33:49Speaker 3: like ten plus years, like after the thing comes out,
- 33:52Speaker 3: it's like, hey, we're going to finally release this or
- 33:55Speaker 3: someone finds it or whatever. But to just kind of
- 33:57Speaker 3: have it really from the beginning, And again I think
- 34:01Speaker 3: maybe again this was strategic right to like I don't know,
- 34:07Speaker 3: maybe que many doubts about the three of them taking
- 34:10Speaker 3: over such big roles.
- 34:14Speaker 2: And I love how they talked about why they would
- 34:17Speaker 2: like how they made it, not why they were chosen
- 34:20Speaker 2: to put how they enhanced the children's audition, like specifically
- 34:26Speaker 2: we can talk about women talk about Arabella, but how
- 34:29Speaker 2: they made sure that they put in her snort because
- 34:32Speaker 2: they thought it was very playful for Hermione, Like they
- 34:35Speaker 2: really made sure that they gave the children forty plus
- 34:40Speaker 2: forty thousand plus a really good chance of en showing
- 34:45Speaker 2: their best side as well, which I've loved and they
- 34:49Speaker 2: talked about each of the main trio and what they
- 34:52Speaker 2: loved about them.
- 34:54Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 34:56Speaker 3: I think that one thing that stood out to me,
- 34:58Speaker 3: which I think players a really big role in things
- 35:01Speaker 3: they talk about later, is like they kept referring to
- 35:03Speaker 3: the fact that like, at the end of the day,
- 35:06Speaker 3: like all of these people are just like ordinary kids
- 35:09Speaker 3: who just end up doing extraordinary things. And again, I
- 35:13Speaker 3: think this plays a role into things we'll talk about
- 35:15Speaker 3: later when they talk about like nature and realism. But
- 35:19Speaker 3: I really loved the focus on that. And I think
- 35:21Speaker 3: also to your point, Lucy, of them talking about like
- 35:25Speaker 3: just letting all of these kids audition and they weren't
- 35:28Speaker 3: necessarily like caring about like what your background was. It
- 35:31Speaker 3: was almost like based on a feeling, right. I think
- 35:34Speaker 3: that that just plays into that. It's like we also,
- 35:38Speaker 3: I think, have some like ordinary kids that are about
- 35:41Speaker 3: to also become extraordinary like in real life, like as actors,
- 35:45Speaker 3: and we're going to watch them grow up into that,
- 35:47Speaker 3: And so I think that's a really interesting parallel. But
- 35:49Speaker 3: I think at the end of the day, like you know,
- 35:53Speaker 3: I think we put like Harry Ron and Hermione like
- 35:55Speaker 3: on this pedestal right, as like these amazing characters because
- 35:58Speaker 3: they are, but like if it was real life, like
- 36:02Speaker 3: they are just ordinary kids. And so I just really
- 36:05Speaker 3: loved that they kept mentioning that, and I loved them
- 36:09Speaker 3: in the video auditions. It's so funny because I love well.
- 36:13Speaker 3: I love that all three of them read poems. Yeah,
- 36:16Speaker 3: and I thought that each poem that they read was
- 36:19Speaker 3: like so fitting for each of their characters. Like Alistair
- 36:24Speaker 3: read like a funnyish kind of poem, right, which like
- 36:28Speaker 3: fits very well with Ron. Arabella reads this like dramatic poem,
- 36:33Speaker 3: which of course Hermione would pick like a poem like
- 36:36Speaker 3: that to read. And Dom's was one that he wrote himself,
- 36:41Speaker 3: and like they described him as just having this quiet
- 36:44Speaker 3: confidence in himself, and like, to me, like that's Harry,
- 36:48Speaker 3: Like Harry has such a quiet confidence in himself. So
- 36:51Speaker 3: I just I thought that was just so. I mean,
- 36:54Speaker 3: I was already sold on them before this, but if
- 36:57Speaker 3: I wasn't originally sold on them, I think I would
- 36:59Speaker 3: have become sold on them watching their video interview.
- 37:01Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, pretty sure.
- 37:05Speaker 2: I think the poems were an excellent move by the
- 37:08Speaker 2: cast because I feel like it was the requirement they
- 37:11Speaker 2: had to choose a poem a FOURT that.
- 37:13Speaker 3: Would make sense why they all did it.
- 37:14Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, by the casting because no one reads poems casting,
- 37:20Speaker 2: But I think it really shows the acting if you
- 37:23Speaker 2: can pull off a poem.
- 37:24Speaker 3: Yeah, that's true.
- 37:26Speaker 1: Yeah, and shows the personality to depending on when they choose,
- 37:30Speaker 1: like you just kind of alluded to. Yeah, So what
- 37:36Speaker 1: I found really interesting was they read off like the
- 37:40Speaker 1: sheets of character traits that they had going into these
- 37:45Speaker 1: auditions and what they were looking for from each kid
- 37:49Speaker 1: for each of these roles, and Nicole, I know you
- 37:53Speaker 1: took notes and actually wrote down what that says.
- 37:56Speaker 3: Well, because yeah, when I I love watching with close
- 37:58Speaker 3: caption eings, I like, rewatch it to get the close caption,
- 38:00Speaker 3: and I was like, I'm just gonna pull these direct
- 38:02Speaker 3: quotes because they just described it perfectly. So they with Hermione,
- 38:08Speaker 3: they kind of had I feel like a lot to
- 38:10Speaker 3: say about her that I just have never thought of
- 38:12Speaker 3: Hermione like in this way. And then as soon as
- 38:15Speaker 3: they said it, I'm like, oh my god. Yeah. So
- 38:18Speaker 3: they described Hermione as being someone with a quote lack
- 38:21Speaker 3: of filter from being an only child, and I just
- 38:23Speaker 3: want to say, like I resonnated with that. As somebody
- 38:27Speaker 3: who grew up like as an only child, I think
- 38:30Speaker 3: I don't necessarily have a lack of filter. But I
- 38:32Speaker 3: knew what they meant, because I don't think Hermione completely
- 38:35Speaker 3: has like a lack of filter, but in an only
- 38:38Speaker 3: child kind of way, I know exactly what they mean.
- 38:42Speaker 3: They talked about her superpowers, her emotional intelligence, and she's
- 38:47Speaker 3: got main character energy.
- 38:51Speaker 1: Hermione's getting all the appreciation in this, and I love
- 38:55Speaker 1: it because she always gets just written off as you know,
- 38:59Speaker 1: book smart, bossy, no at all, yep, And that's like
- 39:03Speaker 1: it like she's got like character depth, and I appreciate
- 39:08Speaker 1: that they recognize that.
- 39:11Speaker 3: I mean, Harry and Ron probably would have died a
- 39:13Speaker 3: million times if it wasn't for her. So she is
- 39:17Speaker 3: main character energy. But like you mentioned earlier, Lucy, like,
- 39:21Speaker 3: they also talked about like, given all of this right,
- 39:24Speaker 3: she has to be playful. And I think, to what
- 39:26Speaker 3: you just said, Amy, like this is like the first
- 39:29Speaker 3: time I think I've ever heard anybody ever describe Hermione
- 39:32Speaker 3: as playful. But I also like love it, and I
- 39:36Speaker 3: think it's such I've never even thought of that word
- 39:39Speaker 3: to describe Hermione, but it's so true, and they mention
- 39:45Speaker 3: her reading a scene where she's talking to her parents
- 39:48Speaker 3: about Harry and Ron and she gets all these giggles
- 39:51Speaker 3: and starts snorting and like you mentioned Lucy with a
- 39:53Speaker 3: snorting And I do hope that this ends up being
- 39:56Speaker 3: an actual scene that we get in the show, And
- 39:58Speaker 3: kind of also wanted to get your guys's thoughts on,
- 40:01Speaker 3: like if this does end up being a scene that
- 40:02Speaker 3: we get in the show, Like when do we think
- 40:05Speaker 3: this scene could be? Well, we've already.
- 40:09Speaker 2: Told that we're getting Hermione receiving her hogwot Setter, So
- 40:13Speaker 2: I was thinking about when that would happen, like because
- 40:17Speaker 2: the first part is very much Harry's journey, So I
- 40:21Speaker 2: was thinking, like when would they Like will they have
- 40:25Speaker 2: a montage of everybody getting the Like, how's that going
- 40:28Speaker 2: to work? Or it's I reckon it probably would happen
- 40:33Speaker 2: over Christmas break, That's.
- 40:34Speaker 3: What I was thinking, because it's obviously after she meets them,
- 40:37Speaker 3: right and it's probably been with them for a bit
- 40:39Speaker 3: to be able to kind of like talk about them.
- 40:41Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm wondering if we'll get like a whole maybe
- 40:47Speaker 2: half an episode on Hermione, because we also got told
- 40:51Speaker 2: that we're getting Draco's backstory, so unless they're talking about it,
- 40:56Speaker 2: might be they already know that they're doing season two,
- 41:01Speaker 2: which I think was confirmed. I can't remember that that's
- 41:05Speaker 2: going to happen then for Draco, So I'm kind of
- 41:10Speaker 2: curious how it's going to fit in because eight episodes
- 41:12Speaker 2: for Floor of Stone is still it's going to be
- 41:15Speaker 2: jam packed.
- 41:16Speaker 3: Right, It's like, how important is it for us to
- 41:18Speaker 3: see Hermione just at home, like randomly in the middle
- 41:22Speaker 3: of the season, like at over Christmas or something like that.
- 41:24Speaker 3: But yeah, that was the only thing I could think
- 41:26Speaker 3: of of, Like when she would be going home Ray
- 41:28Speaker 3: and her parents are asking her, okay, like tell us
- 41:30Speaker 3: about this magical score that you've been out right, and
- 41:33Speaker 3: she talks about the friends that she's made, and.
- 41:36Speaker 2: Yeah, so I wonder if episode one will end with
- 41:40Speaker 2: a little montage of everybody getting their whole courts litter,
- 41:43Speaker 2: because that's the only logical spot for it to happen.
- 41:47Speaker 3: But she wouldn't be talking about to her parents about
- 41:49Speaker 3: Harry and Ryan at that time.
- 41:51Speaker 2: She has out, and it kind of would be weird
- 41:55Speaker 2: if they pull off into a Christmas bit of her
- 42:02Speaker 2: at home because of everything that happens at Christmas at Hogwarts, right,
- 42:06Speaker 2: the jewel and stuff. So that's an interesting one unless
- 42:11Speaker 2: she comes back and she tells but or I don't know,
- 42:17Speaker 2: like the platform at the end of the whole series
- 42:21Speaker 2: when they're on the platform, right, maybe.
- 42:24Speaker 1: Or it could be like the very beginning of season two.
- 42:29Speaker 3: Potentially, yeah, maybe, But I just thought it was a
- 42:32Speaker 3: very interesting, like, and again, it might not even be
- 42:35Speaker 3: a scene that actually makes it into the show. It
- 42:36Speaker 3: could just be something they wrote specifically that they wanted
- 42:39Speaker 3: her to read. But it's also kind of like if
- 42:42Speaker 3: you wrote that whole scene, like why don't we just
- 42:44Speaker 3: fell the like eventually and put it in. And I
- 42:46Speaker 3: thought that was interesting. But but yeah, I love how
- 42:50Speaker 3: they also mentioned that, like Arabella snort ended up being
- 42:53Speaker 3: really crucial in her getting casted. I just love that
- 42:57Speaker 3: that that was like the part that they're like, we
- 42:59Speaker 3: gotta make sure we show the director like her snorting,
- 43:03Speaker 3: because that's what's going to sell him on this is
- 43:05Speaker 3: our Hermione, Yeah, which we already know, Like I brought
- 43:11Speaker 3: this up. I think I don't know if it was
- 43:12Speaker 3: last episode or what, but we already know she's going
- 43:15Speaker 3: to be great, because she's great in the audible narration,
- 43:18Speaker 3: so like we just already know she's going to be great.
- 43:21Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 43:23Speaker 3: So then when they described Harry, they said, quote, he's
- 43:28Speaker 3: skeptical of the adult world. He's got a vulnerability and
- 43:33Speaker 3: a melancholy, a solitary quality to him because he grew
- 43:38Speaker 3: up alone and survival is his thing.
- 43:43Speaker 2: Yeah, yep, that's Harry.
- 43:46Speaker 1: Makes sense. Which is funny because if you remember all
- 43:52Speaker 1: the interviews of them talking about how they originally cast
- 43:56Speaker 1: Dan back in the day and how they were just
- 44:00Speaker 1: taken with like this haunted, kind of melancholy look that
- 44:04Speaker 1: he had as a kid, and like how serious he
- 44:07Speaker 1: could work. So it's funny that that's kind of carried over.
- 44:12Speaker 1: They're looking for the same sort of kid in this situation.
- 44:16Speaker 2: Well, I just recently read the first couple of chapters
- 44:18Speaker 2: and I was like, I do not remember being this dark,
- 44:23Speaker 2: like yeah, traumatic.
- 44:25Speaker 3: And I think and I think we talked about that.
- 44:27Speaker 3: The teaser trailer like really captures that. Like I think
- 44:30Speaker 3: that sometimes, you know, we think about all of the
- 44:35Speaker 3: trauma that Harry went through, like once he got to Hogwarts,
- 44:39Speaker 3: right and every year after that, but like sometimes not
- 44:42Speaker 3: stepping back and looking at like the trauma that he had,
- 44:46Speaker 3: like even before he got there in a very different way.
- 44:50Speaker 3: So yeah, So, I mean, sadly they didn't really give
- 44:57Speaker 3: the same kind of analysis for Ron, which I would
- 44:59Speaker 3: have love to hear them like describe what they were
- 45:02Speaker 3: looking for for Ron in this way. But they did
- 45:05Speaker 3: describe Alistair, who obviously ended up being casted as Ron,
- 45:08Speaker 3: as being really funny and charming, which is Ron.
- 45:12Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I just made some random stop points.
- 45:21Speaker 2: These are just thoughts that I had dom I didn't
- 45:26Speaker 2: know who was Scottish. Oh my god, yeah, he does
- 45:29Speaker 2: an English accents so well. Also the Scottish accent. It's like,
- 45:33Speaker 2: oh god damn, which made me think, will McGee get
- 45:41Speaker 2: a Scottish accent?
- 45:43Speaker 3: Right, because we hear her talk and she very clearly
- 45:45Speaker 3: has an English accent. Yeah, I hope. I mean I
- 45:49Speaker 3: think if she's able to pull it off, I would
- 45:52Speaker 3: say probably, especially because you know they're really going for
- 45:55Speaker 3: book accurateness. So I hope so too. Yeah, I know,
- 46:02Speaker 3: so because I gotta say, like, if you like, if
- 46:06Speaker 3: you haven't listened to the audio book. So Michelle Gomez
- 46:11Speaker 3: voices McGonagall in that, and she's already awesome, Like I
- 46:14Speaker 3: loved her from Doctor Who, but she's just amazing and
- 46:17Speaker 3: she just has such a stern, amazing Scottish accent and
- 46:24Speaker 3: it's just perfect because it's McGonagall, Like she is just McGonagall.
- 46:27Speaker 3: And like so now I'm like, Okay, the standard has
- 46:29Speaker 3: been set, Like we need a Scottish McGonagall because it's
- 46:32Speaker 3: just it's her and it works with her.
- 46:35Speaker 2: It's like, I just need McGonagall just to be Scottish.
- 46:37Speaker 3: Yeah, whatever else they do, don't care.
- 46:41Speaker 2: Don't teach teach the actor how to get some Scottish
- 46:45Speaker 2: into it. You need it.
- 46:47Speaker 3: And I think, like looking at her in her face
- 46:49Speaker 3: and like when we get that picture of her, like
- 46:51Speaker 3: you know, standing and looking at the students with her
- 46:53Speaker 3: stern face, I do just expect this really like sasy
- 46:56Speaker 3: Scottish accent to pop out of that. So I yeah,
- 47:00Speaker 3: I think I think if she can do it, it'll
- 47:03Speaker 3: be there.
- 47:03Speaker 1: Oh I hope. So maybe the next trailer will actually
- 47:06Speaker 1: hear her talk like yeah.
- 47:08Speaker 2: Because we didn't hear any of the adults just Hagrid.
- 47:14Speaker 3: Well, it was funny because when you put this in
- 47:17Speaker 3: the dock. Initially, I was like, wait, but we haven't
- 47:19Speaker 3: even heard them speaking in English accent, Like where have
- 47:21Speaker 3: we heard him speaking in English accent? And then I
- 47:23Speaker 3: remember he's got like one line or like like one
- 47:26Speaker 3: line I was to know about my parents.
- 47:29Speaker 2: Yeah, because when I originally talked to it and I
- 47:31Speaker 2: was like, oh, I can't wait to hear his English accent.
- 47:33Speaker 2: And I was like, wait, we have.
- 47:37Speaker 3: Briefly, briefly, but we have ye.
- 47:39Speaker 1: So that's one.
- 47:39Speaker 2: It's like, oh my god, to have a thick, strong, cute,
- 47:43Speaker 2: like you know, kid Scottish accent into like this, that's
- 47:46Speaker 2: already incredible freak to be.
- 47:48Speaker 3: Able to do that. Yeah. Well I think he said
- 47:50Speaker 3: too that he like was in Macbeth and everything too,
- 47:52Speaker 3: which he could have obviously done his Scottish accent from Macbeth,
- 47:55Speaker 3: which Scottish works really well with Macbeth, but that was
- 47:59Speaker 3: really also to hear that he did you know, a
- 48:02Speaker 3: production like that too, I was like, Okay, he definitely
- 48:04Speaker 3: has some acting chops here, but.
- 48:10Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
- 48:13Speaker 1: So we also got quite the in depth look at
- 48:17Speaker 1: the animatronics and the process behind creating those, which is
- 48:22Speaker 1: so cool. Some of the creatures that they showed us
- 48:29Speaker 1: animatronics of is owwls, the dog bog, firecrabs, flobber worms,
- 48:35Speaker 1: and scabbers.
- 48:39Speaker 2: I if you look at this doc like, I was
- 48:42Speaker 2: so excited, this is really cool.
- 48:44Speaker 1: This was probably my favorite part of the documentary.
- 48:47Speaker 2: Just yeah, because seeing that process. Like I said before,
- 48:51Speaker 2: I was so scared that they were going to do
- 48:53Speaker 2: a lot of CGI for the characters because it'll make sense.
- 48:56Speaker 2: And I was like, well, you can't really CGI for
- 48:58Speaker 2: kids because yes, they'll probably have imaginations, but so hard
- 49:04Speaker 2: without them, like you know, feeling touching, seeing it is
- 49:07Speaker 2: always the best option for a kid because you know,
- 49:09Speaker 2: the imagination is just wild. Because we also saw that
- 49:12Speaker 2: in Chamber of Secrets where they had to see Gi
- 49:15Speaker 2: part of the snake and it was hard for Dan
- 49:17Speaker 2: to imagine a snake. So I'm so glad that they
- 49:23Speaker 2: put so much effort into these And oh and just
- 49:29Speaker 2: to bring back the creature department, like one of the
- 49:32Speaker 2: guys was an apprentice on the third film and some
- 49:37Speaker 2: of the guys are back from the films doing this
- 49:40Speaker 2: again and it's just so exciting just to see the
- 49:44Speaker 2: upgrade these creatures are getting. Like one of them said,
- 49:50Speaker 2: we now have smaller and more powerful computers to work with,
- 49:54Speaker 2: and you can see what they're doing, Like, yeah, it's
- 49:57Speaker 2: going to be so cool to a cause you know
- 50:01Speaker 2: see where they started in like the first couple of films,
- 50:05Speaker 2: because we have to remember, like the first couple of
- 50:07Speaker 2: films were really at the height of that technology change,
- 50:11Speaker 2: and it was so cool just to see the films
- 50:13Speaker 2: growing with the technology and now what they have. Oh,
- 50:18Speaker 2: I just got so excited.
- 50:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 50:21Speaker 2: I mean, we have to talk about these owls because
- 50:25Speaker 2: they're forty thousand individual feathers.
- 50:29Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, So I watched it and she said when
- 50:32Speaker 3: I watched it last night, Yeah, she said, it was
- 50:34Speaker 3: like thirty six thousand feathers and they did ten owls
- 50:38Speaker 3: god each with that many feathers. Crazy and just watching
- 50:42Speaker 3: her do it, I'm like my hand would be shaken,
- 50:44Speaker 3: Like I just would not be able. I wouldn't have
- 50:46Speaker 3: the patience to do it. And I think it's just
- 50:49Speaker 3: like they talk so much, like the word like details
- 50:52Speaker 3: comes up so much in this documentary, and I think
- 50:55Speaker 3: like they really like it wasn't just a hollow word,
- 50:59Speaker 3: Like they were really showed how much the detail was
- 51:02Speaker 3: and I think that that's important, right, because one thing
- 51:04Speaker 3: we talk about that we love about the film so much,
- 51:06Speaker 3: especially like the graphic design work, is like the attention
- 51:09Speaker 3: to detail, and that's definitely not being skipped out in
- 51:14Speaker 3: the show at all. And actually it sounds like their
- 51:16Speaker 3: biggest thing is they want even more detail than the
- 51:19Speaker 3: films were able to do. And like later on in
- 51:21Speaker 3: the documentary they talk about honoring what came before, but
- 51:25Speaker 3: with more detail, and they yes, they have the space
- 51:29Speaker 3: to do more detail. They have the time to do
- 51:32Speaker 3: more detail.
- 51:33Speaker 2: I have the budget they have.
- 51:34Speaker 3: They definitely have the budget to do more detail, right,
- 51:37Speaker 3: And I was nervous too about like the elements of CGI,
- 51:41Speaker 3: because obviously, like we live in a time right now
- 51:44Speaker 3: where the technology is so advanced, right that we could
- 51:47Speaker 3: do all these things CGI and make them look pretty believable.
- 51:54Speaker 2: But it loses the magic it does this when I
- 51:57Speaker 2: was lost on that. My favorite kind of seen some
- 52:00Speaker 2: moment a couple of times when George g from Narnia
- 52:05Speaker 2: who played Lucy, stepped into the woods for the first
- 52:08Speaker 2: time and it's like, that's what you just need, Like
- 52:12Speaker 2: you can't have a child imagine half the stuff, Like
- 52:17Speaker 2: you can't even have adults imagine half the stuff, like
- 52:19Speaker 2: the pure joy, like half those outs had while walking
- 52:23Speaker 2: on to like I think they walked from stagnollity, like
- 52:26Speaker 2: all those influences. It's like, you can't recreate that with
- 52:30Speaker 2: CTI No, you get that even with people walking into
- 52:34Speaker 2: the theme parks, like with our friends who first went
- 52:36Speaker 2: to the theme parks with us in January, just the pure.
- 52:40Speaker 3: Just oh my god, you get a more genuine reaction.
- 52:44Speaker 3: And I think they kind of talked about that too
- 52:45Speaker 3: when they were like showing like the flabber worms and
- 52:48Speaker 3: like wow, those looked gross, like so and just the
- 52:50Speaker 3: way and it's so crazy to me that you can
- 52:52Speaker 3: make an animatronic like we're at that. I mean, I
- 52:55Speaker 3: know that we're at that point, right, Like I'm a
- 52:57Speaker 3: huge Disney fan, right, Like I see what they do
- 52:59Speaker 3: with these animatrons in person all the time. But it
- 53:01Speaker 3: still blows my mind. And to see in the way
- 53:04Speaker 3: that they were able to add all of this like
- 53:06Speaker 3: slime and goo and everything to it and it doesn't
- 53:09Speaker 3: ruin it right and to like and they talked about
- 53:12Speaker 3: like the kids not like I think they said something
- 53:14Speaker 3: about the kids like not knowing that they were going
- 53:15Speaker 3: to be touching them and stuff, and so like, yeah,
- 53:18Speaker 3: to your point, like, I think a lot of the
- 53:19Speaker 3: reactions that we'll get there is not even acting. It's
- 53:22Speaker 3: like genuine reactions, which you just can't replace.
- 53:25Speaker 2: Yeah, And it's so shocked when you picked up the
- 53:28Speaker 2: phone room and I.
- 53:29Speaker 3: Was like, oh my god, and it just like yeah,
- 53:32Speaker 3: and the way that this line just like carry it
- 53:34Speaker 3: up like a good cheese pole, Like I'm just like, wow,
- 53:37Speaker 3: how did they do that? And I think my other
- 53:40Speaker 3: thing that I'm really glad that they are still doing
- 53:43Speaker 3: heavy on the animatronics is just for like the longevity
- 53:46Speaker 3: of the series. You know, we talked about this a
- 53:48Speaker 3: lot when we did our episode on like does the
- 53:50Speaker 3: movie Magic still hold up? And like, really, the things
- 53:54Speaker 3: that hold up the most are the things that were
- 53:56Speaker 3: done practically, And I'm glad that they recognize that, I think.
- 54:02Speaker 3: And I think it helps too that, like I mean,
- 54:04Speaker 3: I didn't even realize we had so many people working
- 54:06Speaker 3: on this show that were so heavily connected to the films,
- 54:09Speaker 3: and that just also has me. Obviously we knew that
- 54:12Speaker 3: like a lot of you know, producers and people were
- 54:14Speaker 3: coming back, but just to know that people working in
- 54:17Speaker 3: these behind the scene roles have such a connection to
- 54:20Speaker 3: these films, whether it's through family connections or they worked
- 54:23Speaker 3: on them themselves, just gives me so much more hope,
- 54:26Speaker 3: Like in this and I think that I think that
- 54:32Speaker 3: things will end up being different but like more similar
- 54:37Speaker 3: than maybe I don't know, different, maybe similar but more different.
- 54:42Speaker 3: Like dear what I'm trying to say, Like, I think
- 54:44Speaker 3: things will be very similar and familiar in a way
- 54:47Speaker 3: that we're expecting, but also like very different in a
- 54:50Speaker 3: way that like really separates this from the films. That's
- 54:52Speaker 3: not what I'm trying to get at, which I felt
- 54:55Speaker 3: watching these animatronics.
- 54:57Speaker 1: And you talk about the advancements in technology, like I
- 55:02Speaker 1: feel like just seeing just the couple clips who got
- 55:05Speaker 1: of the owl's head turning and how it showed us
- 55:09Speaker 1: like robotics and all the little motors involved in that,
- 55:13Speaker 1: Like that was so fluid, Like it looked so good,
- 55:19Speaker 1: and like that's something that I feel like, yes, you
- 55:22Speaker 1: could see gi that, but I don't think you can
- 55:24Speaker 1: pull it off in the same way.
- 55:26Speaker 2: No, And like I love to talk to just the
- 55:30Speaker 2: creature effects department, Yeah, because I know, like we've all
- 55:35Speaker 2: heard like Nick Dugman Dougman talk I love to hear
- 55:40Speaker 2: these guys talk more like I want to sit down
- 55:43Speaker 2: and talk well, I want to America.
- 55:50Speaker 3: Well. And when we sit with the guy and he's
- 55:52Speaker 3: like showing, like how and they talked about like how
- 55:54Speaker 3: they spent so many hours like studying like owls in
- 55:58Speaker 3: nature so that they can mimic that. And I think
- 56:01Speaker 3: to your point too about the technology I was thinking
- 56:03Speaker 3: about this earlier, is like technology has advanced so much
- 56:06Speaker 3: when it comes to this, and I think, right now
- 56:07Speaker 3: a lot of films and TV shows and stuff go
- 56:10Speaker 3: right to the CGI, right, But this is them still
- 56:14Speaker 3: utilizing the advancements in technology, but in a different way.
- 56:18Speaker 3: Like it's like we've got these advancements, but like it
- 56:21Speaker 3: doesn't have to all be computer generated. We can use
- 56:24Speaker 3: those same advancements and put it into this like insane
- 56:27Speaker 3: animatronic that looks like a real owl or like scabbers,
- 56:31Speaker 3: like literally so real. And I put in the dock
- 56:35Speaker 3: like I'm someone who is terrified of mice and rats,
- 56:37Speaker 3: and like the second they put that animatronic on the floor,
- 56:40Speaker 3: you would have fooled me, like I would have thought
- 56:42Speaker 3: it was real.
- 56:43Speaker 2: Yeah. I also put in like the number one thing
- 56:46Speaker 2: I did not like best Skavis in the film was
- 56:48Speaker 2: how obvious he was as an amateurg, especially when Molly
- 56:52Speaker 2: is running with him to the train in the third film,
- 56:55Speaker 2: It's like so obviously. But then the guy who was
- 57:00Speaker 2: talking about scabs picked him up and he said how
- 57:03Speaker 2: you can squish him like a rat and how like
- 57:06Speaker 2: certain parts will move, and it's like, oh my god.
- 57:10Speaker 2: And then they came out with the one on the finger.
- 57:12Speaker 2: I'ms like, it doesn't happen, Like when does that happen
- 57:16Speaker 2: in the book? Like when does I thought some scabbards
- 57:20Speaker 2: bites him in the third film, Like does this mean
- 57:22Speaker 2: we're getting firs season.
- 57:25Speaker 1: Or maybe they're just planning that far ahead They're like,
- 57:29Speaker 1: well we need to also make fighting scabberds for down
- 57:32Speaker 1: the road. Oh yeah, I was wondering when would we
- 57:41Speaker 1: see a dog barg.
- 57:44Speaker 2: I was wondering, I don't recall there being a dog bog.
- 57:50Speaker 1: In the Crabs too, Yeah, like it did we.
- 57:55Speaker 2: Miss like something in like the third book, Like I
- 57:58Speaker 2: need to re read them again, but they an't first years. Yeah,
- 58:05Speaker 2: don't bog on a fire doesn't doesn't seem right, Like,
- 58:08Speaker 2: I mean, I know they've.
- 58:09Speaker 3: Talked a lot about like us being able to see
- 58:12Speaker 3: more like classroom moments than usual. So I mean maybe,
- 58:18Speaker 3: I mean, maybe we get classroom moments that don't involve
- 58:21Speaker 3: Harry Ron and Hermione, right, like I know, I think
- 58:24Speaker 3: they I don't remember. I feel like we just talked
- 58:26Speaker 3: about this. I don't remember it was in an interview
- 58:28Speaker 3: or like where the heck it came up, But it
- 58:30Speaker 3: was like talking about getting to see the professors more
- 58:34Speaker 3: like getting to see them in their little professor room
- 58:37Speaker 3: in between classes and stuff like that.
- 58:39Speaker 2: And so maybe I need to see probably Plank. Probably
- 58:43Speaker 2: Plank has so much floor in the books, and she
- 58:46Speaker 2: just disappears. It's just like she's mentioned in the in
- 58:50Speaker 2: the third one, and that's it. It's like, I need
- 58:53Speaker 2: she has so much law. I need her. I need
- 58:57Speaker 2: her sitting with the children, as they know they do
- 58:59Speaker 2: flobblems in the third one, don't they We'll just the
- 59:02Speaker 2: first one. I don't remember. I just need that class
- 59:06Speaker 2: the following ones where they're just feeding it letters, Like
- 59:11Speaker 2: that's the stuff that made the book so magical and special.
- 59:15Speaker 2: It's just that every day stuff with them complaining about
- 59:18Speaker 2: feeding flopper worm's letters.
- 59:20Speaker 3: Right, And that's obviously something, you know, when we were
- 59:23Speaker 3: never going to get in the films. We just don't
- 59:24Speaker 3: have the time for that. But I think that, yeah,
- 59:27Speaker 3: I definitely think we have the time for it in
- 59:28Speaker 3: the show, and I think they're showing us that we
- 59:30Speaker 3: will get to see those things because we have the
- 59:32Speaker 3: time for it.
- 59:33Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 59:33Speaker 2: And I'm a groobby plank, stand. I need her.
- 59:37Speaker 3: She's so underappreciated, so I'm really excited too.
- 59:40Speaker 2: And she always just pops up at the most brilliant
- 59:43Speaker 2: times as well. Like I remember there's a scene where
- 59:47Speaker 2: Hedwig gets injured and Harry's just in a frantic and
- 59:50Speaker 2: She's like, Oh, You're fine, isn't she like?
- 59:54Speaker 1: Yeah something?
- 59:57Speaker 2: I love her Justice for groobbling plan.
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: So we also got a very detailed explanation of this
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: whole naturalism thing that we've been talking about for like
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: what a year now. So we first heard this in
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: an interview with showrunners, which I believe was in the
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: Hollywood Reporter if I'm remembering correctly, And this is where
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: they said the show would focus on quote naturalism as
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: opposed to the stylized looks of the films.
- 1:00:35Speaker 3: And everybody lost their minds and everyone was like.
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: What do you mean, are you taking away the magic? No,
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: that's not what this means.
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: I remember, I think it was a cinematographer for Philosoper's Stone,
- 1:00:49Speaker 2: his name skates my mind, talking about how it was
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: very stylized and it was sort of I don't think
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: he said high fantasy, but it was very realm. Yeah,
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: were contemporary, not contemporary, but there was that very much feel.
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: Yeah, definitely. But in this special designers explain that the
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: idea is that magic really has this connection to the
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: natural world, and that this idea influenced design decisions such
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: as drawing on natural elements in architecture and costuming, which
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: we get quite a few examples of throughout this entire documentary.
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: I actually really love this idea because I feel like
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: that is the thing, right, like witches and like magic
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: in legends oftentimes is tied to the natural world and
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: plants and animals and being able to communicate and stay
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: close with nature, Like, I feel like that it has
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: credence and I understand where they got this idea from.
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: And I think it's gonna look really cool aesthetically as well.
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: So yeah, yeah, I agree with you.
- 1:02:13Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, And I love this idea too, and I
- 1:02:16Speaker 3: think I said in our reaction episode last week too
- 1:02:18Speaker 3: that I actually, in just seeing the teaser trailer, like
- 1:02:22Speaker 3: got a pretty like quick I knew what they meant,
- 1:02:27Speaker 3: Like I didn't know on this level, right, Like they
- 1:02:29Speaker 3: definitely dived into the topic more and explained it more.
- 1:02:32Speaker 3: But I think like something we'll talk like a little
- 1:02:35Speaker 3: bit later when we talk more about the costuming and
- 1:02:37Speaker 3: how they how they end up talking about this naturalism
- 1:02:41Speaker 3: with the costuming is kind of I think what I
- 1:02:42Speaker 3: picked up on when I saw the teaser trailer. But yeah,
- 1:02:47Speaker 3: I think to exactly what you said, Amy, Like something
- 1:02:49Speaker 3: that stood out to me like immediately is that like
- 1:02:52Speaker 3: nature and plants like already play like a really huge
- 1:02:55Speaker 3: role in the magical world, like not even just in
- 1:02:58Speaker 3: Harry Potter, but like across anything that does magic. But
- 1:03:02Speaker 3: like when we look specifically in like our Harry Potter
- 1:03:05Speaker 3: Wizarding World, it's always been a big crux there, right,
- 1:03:09Speaker 3: Like think of the focus on herbology and potions. I
- 1:03:11Speaker 3: mean literally potions is all about using plants and animals
- 1:03:15Speaker 3: and everything.
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: Like that and caregical creatures.
- 1:03:19Speaker 3: Right, It's always been there, And I really like how
- 1:03:23Speaker 3: they described like one of the quotes they said was
- 1:03:26Speaker 3: a deeply rooted logic. They wanted to create a deeply
- 1:03:29Speaker 3: rooted logic to what was happening. And I think sometimes,
- 1:03:33Speaker 3: like with magic, right, like we just just accept it,
- 1:03:38Speaker 3: but like but then have questions about it. And I
- 1:03:41Speaker 3: know we talked about this back in our episode where
- 1:03:43Speaker 3: we talked about like I don't remember what are I
- 1:03:47Speaker 3: remember what the subject was, but we were talking about
- 1:03:49Speaker 3: like the Department of Mysteries and like there being a
- 1:03:52Speaker 3: room about like the creation of magic, and like what
- 1:03:55Speaker 3: really is that? And I just feel like they were
- 1:03:57Speaker 3: like also talking about that when they were discussing wanting
- 1:04:01Speaker 3: to make this logical, like I think when you were
- 1:04:04Speaker 3: saying Lucy about like high fantasy. They actually talk about
- 1:04:07Speaker 3: that a little bit later with the costuming. But I
- 1:04:10Speaker 3: think when we look at these works of high fantasy,
- 1:04:13Speaker 3: a lot of it is just here's how it is,
- 1:04:16Speaker 3: and this is how it is. It might not make sense,
- 1:04:19Speaker 3: it might not be logical. You don't need to figure
- 1:04:21Speaker 3: out it. It's just this is how it is. But
- 1:04:24Speaker 3: they're really stepping back and they're like, no, like we
- 1:04:26Speaker 3: want to make this feel real, and to make it
- 1:04:29Speaker 3: feel real, like we have to somehow put some kind
- 1:04:34Speaker 3: of logic into it. And I like that really, Like
- 1:04:39Speaker 3: they said, like magic is not logical for us, it's
- 1:04:42Speaker 3: more about the consequences of magic that we're interested in.
- 1:04:45Speaker 3: And I love that idea because it does make it real.
- 1:04:51Speaker 3: And like another quote that they said that I loved
- 1:04:53Speaker 3: I put in here was they talked about diving into
- 1:04:55Speaker 3: the science of something that should be unexplainable. And yeah,
- 1:05:00Speaker 3: that because it's it's not just a here's how it
- 1:05:02Speaker 3: is and why it's like, you know, here's why it
- 1:05:05Speaker 3: is that way, And I think it's just a very
- 1:05:08Speaker 3: different way to like approach the series that I didn't
- 1:05:12Speaker 3: think we would get in the show. Like I feel
- 1:05:14Speaker 3: like it made the show like twenty times deeper. I
- 1:05:17Speaker 3: love it.
- 1:05:18Speaker 2: I love that connection because, like you said, Amy, it's
- 1:05:22Speaker 2: it's rooted in history like magic. And you can also
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: say it with the author's research as well, that a
- 1:05:30Speaker 2: love of stuff is based on actual legends, actual artifacts,
- 1:05:36Speaker 2: and we got that with the History of Magic book
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: and exhibition. It's like it is very much rooted and
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: sort of I think they also say in the documentary
- 1:05:44Speaker 2: how they want you to feel like it is just
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: around the corner, right, Can you just walk around the
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: corner and you're in the magical world and it feels
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: no different.
- 1:05:57Speaker 3: Yeah, And you can't do that when it's too high fantasy,
- 1:06:01Speaker 3: because that's not like that. It's high fantasy, it's not real. Yeah. Yeah, So.
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: We were able to spot some ways that this inspiration
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: is coming through in the creations on screen. So in
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: the architecture specifically, you can see a lot of these
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: natural elements. The greenhouse is super obvious. But also like
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: when we were doing our trailer watch last episode and
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: I had paused and I said, you know, that column
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: really looks like a tree, Like there's tree roots and
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: like you can see it growing up. Yeah, it's a tree.
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: So there's like trees that are just part of the
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: structure of the castle and the entrance hall. We also
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: see vines on a staircase railing at a certain point
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: in this documentary, so it looks like they're really working
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: this in And obviously, you know, that makes a lot
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: more sense now with that age on the patch and
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: how it looks like a tree, which.
- 1:07:11Speaker 3: Is why my opinion has changed now on that. And
- 1:07:15Speaker 3: I can't wait to get a pen. I want a
- 1:07:16Speaker 3: pin of that each where the trees were green fors letherin. Yeah.
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: I also love how it's extended into diagonally. When we
- 1:07:27Speaker 2: first saw that, I felt like we were stepping into
- 1:07:31Speaker 2: epic universe, especially with like the mushroom, because that's there
- 1:07:38Speaker 2: and I'm like, oh my god, that's so cool. It
- 1:07:40Speaker 2: feels like you're actually walking like into a theme park
- 1:07:42Speaker 2: or something like that. It very much. I love how
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: they did dig Nolly. It's so cool. It reminds me
- 1:07:49Speaker 2: a lot of York and Victoria Street in in the UK,
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: which is what it's inspired by by the Office. But
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: I just love how it's very much rooted in like
- 1:08:04Speaker 2: a Muggle typical street, but then you have the elements
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: of the magic, which just like a plant pulsing or
- 1:08:16Speaker 2: like just a staircase going over like the whole like
- 1:08:19Speaker 2: defying gravity sort of thing. It's like that staircase should
- 1:08:23Speaker 2: not be like that. And there's the different levels of
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: like it really feels. I feel like diagonally, what we
- 1:08:32Speaker 2: see is the one that it really feels like it's
- 1:08:34Speaker 2: lived in and it's just everyday people putting their stuff
- 1:08:38Speaker 2: out on the streets, trying to get tice people into
- 1:08:40Speaker 2: the shops, the different levels of all the shops, and
- 1:08:44Speaker 2: it really does feel like like a living, breathing market
- 1:08:49Speaker 2: in a way.
- 1:08:53Speaker 3: It's funny that you mentioned like the living and breathing
- 1:08:55Speaker 3: because something that I did like notice and really thought
- 1:08:58Speaker 3: about last night that I put in here is that
- 1:09:00Speaker 3: I feel that all of the vines and the growth
- 1:09:04Speaker 3: you know that we're talking about that are in the castle.
- 1:09:05Speaker 3: And I think all of like you know, all these
- 1:09:07Speaker 3: plants and stuff that we're seeing, there's just everywhere, I
- 1:09:10Speaker 3: mean everywhere, there's structures, there's plants growing. There is no
- 1:09:14Speaker 3: weed treatments, they're just letting them grow, right. But I
- 1:09:17Speaker 3: think that it really makes like seeing them in Hogwarts especially,
- 1:09:21Speaker 3: like really makes the castle feel alive and like, you know,
- 1:09:26Speaker 3: like hopefully that makes sense, but which I think is
- 1:09:29Speaker 3: important because the castle like is a character in it
- 1:09:33Speaker 3: of itself, and I think that is something where like
- 1:09:36Speaker 3: you know, I don't know, I think about like Incanto
- 1:09:38Speaker 3: as well, in the Casito, Right, it's like a house,
- 1:09:40Speaker 3: but it's like it's part of the family. It's alive,
- 1:09:43Speaker 3: and and Hogwarts is that way too, and we see
- 1:09:45Speaker 3: that especially later on. It's important when we get to
- 1:09:49Speaker 3: like deathly hallows in the castle like protecting itself as well.
- 1:09:53Speaker 3: And it's and I think that that's that's really what
- 1:09:56Speaker 3: makes the mat almost what makes the magical world more
- 1:10:00Speaker 3: believable then watching them throw spells around is seeing like
- 1:10:04Speaker 3: to your point, Lucy of like this street might look
- 1:10:07Speaker 3: like an ordinary muggle street, but then there's these weird
- 1:10:11Speaker 3: elements of it that just make it that next level,
- 1:10:13Speaker 3: like something floating or the plants moving around. It's just
- 1:10:17Speaker 3: like muggle plus. And I think that that's like what
- 1:10:21Speaker 3: a real wizarding street would be. It wouldn't be something
- 1:10:27Speaker 3: super different than what we would have in the magical world.
- 1:10:30Speaker 3: It would just have a little plus.
- 1:10:34Speaker 2: Yeah, And it looks and I'm just reading the doc
- 1:10:37Speaker 2: and you said, Nicole that it reminds you of hop
- 1:10:40Speaker 2: Quartz Leigacy, and it's like that is one hundred percent
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: what it does. Like I remember watching it for like
- 1:10:46Speaker 2: the trailer stuff for the first time, going oh my god,
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: this is Howarts legacy. And when Howkwartz Legacy came out,
- 1:10:52Speaker 2: I was like, this is my whole Quartz, Like, this
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: is how I imagined Hawkwarts to be, like huge castle
- 1:10:58Speaker 2: full of all this amazing things. For still these little
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: nooks and crannies that feel very cozy, which they couldn't
- 1:11:05Speaker 2: do in the films. They again didn't have the budget,
- 1:11:10Speaker 2: it wasn't the right period of time for technology and stuff.
- 1:11:14Speaker 2: So I always felt the films with Hobbars felt a
- 1:11:17Speaker 2: bit too small for a castle. And now looking at
- 1:11:21Speaker 2: it in the TV show, I was like, oh my god,
- 1:11:25Speaker 2: it actually looks so cool. It feels like it's living
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: and breathing, which is hard to do with some of
- 1:11:33Speaker 2: the castles nowadays, because you know they're not lived in anymore.
- 1:11:36Speaker 2: They're just there's a museum where it's living and breathing.
- 1:11:43Speaker 2: I can't be saying that evenmore.
- 1:11:45Speaker 3: It just and that's what I mean. It just it
- 1:11:46Speaker 3: feels alive, like it feels alive, and I think we
- 1:11:50Speaker 3: talked about it in our last episode two of Just
- 1:11:52Speaker 3: Like It. I mean, it just it just looks like
- 1:11:56Speaker 3: a real old castle wood, whereas maybe like in the films,
- 1:12:02Speaker 3: it's a little too style. Well to literally use the
- 1:12:06Speaker 3: words that they used, it's too stylized, and I know
- 1:12:10Speaker 3: exactly what they mean now, like it is too stylized.
- 1:12:14Speaker 3: It is too perfect, it is too clean, it's too
- 1:12:19Speaker 3: it's too stylized. It's just the perfect way to describe it.
- 1:12:24Speaker 3: And this new Hogwarts is not that, and I think
- 1:12:27Speaker 3: it's perfect. And even my thoughts have changed. I know
- 1:12:30Speaker 3: when we talked about like that initial when we get
- 1:12:32Speaker 3: to see the entryway, I think I had some skepticism
- 1:12:35Speaker 3: when we like first saw it in the trailer. Yeah,
- 1:12:37Speaker 3: this skepticism is gone, like now that we've seen more bits,
- 1:12:40Speaker 3: I think it just of course that's what the entryway
- 1:12:44Speaker 3: of a castle would look like. It's it's not the
- 1:12:46Speaker 3: most grand part of the castle, right, and it's just.
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: Well and like of course wizards would just like build
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: their castle and not clear a spot for it, just
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: kind of be like build around the trees.
- 1:13:01Speaker 3: If the trees want to keep growing, let them grow.
- 1:13:03Speaker 2: It works.
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: Hellga's over there like watering the tree.
- 1:13:09Speaker 3: I like she probably, like you know hulfle Puff, any
- 1:13:14Speaker 3: herbology professor ever, would just like thrive in this new Haward.
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: She was probably the one who was like, no, we're
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: not cutting down trees to build our castle. We build
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: it around them.
- 1:13:27Speaker 2: Well you have to finger, Yeah, that's a good point
- 1:13:29Speaker 2: because you have to think about all the whole quarts.
- 1:13:30Speaker 2: Fanders like so much in trees potions, so he would
- 1:13:34Speaker 2: build something where potions would thrive, and also the ingredients
- 1:13:38Speaker 2: will thrive again into her horpology, so of course she'll
- 1:13:44Speaker 2: keep all the plants happy. And then you've got Raven
- 1:13:48Speaker 2: call that very much is you know, wisdom, So I
- 1:13:51Speaker 2: wouldn't be surprised. I don't know if it's in the
- 1:13:54Speaker 2: law of Harry Potter, but lay lines and all that
- 1:13:57Speaker 2: stuff to do with ground magic plays a big part
- 1:14:00Speaker 2: into why Hogwarts is this alive. I'm sorry, I don't
- 1:14:04Speaker 2: know what Griffin don't bring to the table.
- 1:14:05Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know. With the naturalism, I don't know,
- 1:14:11Speaker 3: but that's okay. I think it definitely works for the
- 1:14:12Speaker 3: other founders, and yeah, it's just so cool. And I
- 1:14:17Speaker 3: also I mentioned too, I loved that, and they linger
- 1:14:21Speaker 3: on this shot too, so I think it's definitely you know,
- 1:14:23Speaker 3: it was an intentional shot where they show that really cool,
- 1:14:25Speaker 3: like big spirally looking tree that's in the courtyard and
- 1:14:29Speaker 3: then you can just see all the over like the
- 1:14:31Speaker 3: overgrowth in the background. It also looks like honestly coming
- 1:14:35Speaker 3: out of the like wall, it looks like it's a
- 1:14:40Speaker 3: head like. It reminded me so much of like the
- 1:14:43Speaker 3: Chamber of Secrets and like Slytherin's head. Of course, I
- 1:14:48Speaker 3: can't really tell what it is because it's like in
- 1:14:50Speaker 3: the back corner.
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: But is it supposed to be like the topiary how
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: they have them for the different houses. Maybe that's the
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: snake one.
- 1:14:57Speaker 3: No, it was a face. It looks like a face
- 1:14:59Speaker 3: in the I'll have to see if I can grab
- 1:15:01Speaker 3: like a screen grab of it. But it's like it's
- 1:15:03Speaker 3: like in the stone kind of coming out.
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: Oh is it like the Green Man? It's like in architecture.
- 1:15:11Speaker 3: It reminds me of that a little bit.
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: That would make sense too, if they're going for this
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: naturalism thing.
- 1:15:17Speaker 3: Yeah, it looks like there's if you look kind of
- 1:15:19Speaker 3: in that courtyard, it looks like there's maybe some different
- 1:15:21Speaker 3: carvings and stuff like along the way above the pillars.
- 1:15:24Speaker 3: Like it might not be a face. It just like
- 1:15:26Speaker 3: it looks like this giant face coming out of the stone,
- 1:15:30Speaker 3: which is cool, like super cool? Yeah, awesome.
- 1:15:35Speaker 2: Can someone get us onto the set so we can
- 1:15:37Speaker 2: just geek out?
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: Right?
- 1:15:39Speaker 3: We don't invite these influencers who probably have never even
- 1:15:42Speaker 3: read Harry Potter invite.
- 1:15:43Speaker 2: Us, Yeah, Like, I'll come with all the questions, don't
- 1:15:47Speaker 2: you worry right, Like.
- 1:15:49Speaker 3: We'll be excited about the right things. Like I can't
- 1:15:52Speaker 3: imagine like they would like not knocking any influencers here,
- 1:15:57Speaker 3: but it's just obviously certain people are in to go
- 1:16:00Speaker 3: on these set visits because they have the followings. But yeah,
- 1:16:06Speaker 3: get us like behind the scenes geeks in because oh yeah,
- 1:16:10Speaker 3: I all asked the questions.
- 1:16:12Speaker 2: I would geek out and like I asked all the
- 1:16:14Speaker 2: questions at this year too, and they're just like we
- 1:16:16Speaker 2: never had those questions, Like why not? It's important to know.
- 1:16:20Speaker 3: I need to know.
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: Can't be the only one thinking it.
- 1:16:23Speaker 3: No, we're just part of this, Like I think niche
- 1:16:25Speaker 3: group of people that are really into the behind the
- 1:16:28Speaker 3: scenes kind of stuff, which it's totally fine, but I
- 1:16:31Speaker 3: think more people should join us on the side because
- 1:16:35Speaker 3: it's so cool when you really dive into the you know,
- 1:16:38Speaker 3: behind the scenes.
- 1:16:39Speaker 2: And oh yeah, I remember my friend and I took
- 1:16:42Speaker 2: a behind the scenes tour of Alktras and before we
- 1:16:46Speaker 2: start the tour, the lady's just like, so raise your
- 1:16:48Speaker 2: hand if you like history, I mean, and my friend
- 1:16:50Speaker 2: just wrote the hand like say come to it, and
- 1:16:52Speaker 2: we're just like nobody else's and they're just like you're
- 1:16:55Speaker 2: my peoples, Like yes, we are so sorry about what's
- 1:16:58Speaker 2: going to happen, and then like every moment we're just
- 1:17:01Speaker 2: like just asking questions. She loved it because she she's
- 1:17:05Speaker 2: a huge, huge fan like multiplace, and she's like, I've
- 1:17:08Speaker 2: never hads.
- 1:17:09Speaker 3: I was probably doesn't get people like that. And I
- 1:17:13Speaker 3: do hope that, like, you know, I love that they
- 1:17:15Speaker 3: put out this documentary right and like really focused on
- 1:17:18Speaker 3: the behind the scenes stuff, because I really hope that
- 1:17:20Speaker 3: like it does I don't know it's behind the scenes
- 1:17:26Speaker 3: books and stuff are great, right, but like the people
- 1:17:28Speaker 3: that are buying those books are the people that are
- 1:17:30Speaker 3: already interested in it, right to me, but right me,
- 1:17:33Speaker 3: like all my reference books. But like if you're not
- 1:17:38Speaker 3: already into that, I don't think you're like seeking that
- 1:17:40Speaker 3: content out. But putting that content visually I think makes
- 1:17:44Speaker 3: it more accessible to like everybody, and I hope that
- 1:17:47Speaker 3: it really draws more people into that and like creates
- 1:17:51Speaker 3: a love and especially in the younger generation, like I
- 1:17:54Speaker 3: really think about like to your point, you were just
- 1:17:57Speaker 3: talking about when the first time that I brought my
- 1:18:00Speaker 3: boyfriend and his daughter to like Disney and we went
- 1:18:04Speaker 3: to in Epcot and the American Pavilion, there's the American
- 1:18:08Speaker 3: Adventure and it's literally this twenty minute show that is
- 1:18:11Speaker 3: all animatronics, like the craziest lifelike animatronics. And like after
- 1:18:17Speaker 3: we were like done with that, like I said to
- 1:18:19Speaker 3: my boyfriend's daughter, like, wasn't that like just I don't
- 1:18:21Speaker 3: even remember what I asked her, but I was just
- 1:18:23Speaker 3: trying to say, like, wasn't that amazing? And like she
- 1:18:25Speaker 3: was so bored and was not interested in at all.
- 1:18:28Speaker 3: I'm like, how do you not think about, like how
- 1:18:30Speaker 3: the heck do we like have the technology to do this?
- 1:18:33Speaker 3: Like when I go to the Hall of Presidents and
- 1:18:35Speaker 3: Abe Lincoln stands up out of the chair, Like I'm
- 1:18:39Speaker 3: just like looking around, like I've seen it a million times,
- 1:18:41Speaker 3: but everyone's like on their phones and stuff, and I'm like, yeah,
- 1:18:43Speaker 3: this is like mind blowing stuff.
- 1:18:46Speaker 2: Like I just I've never seen that, but I watched
- 1:18:49Speaker 2: so many documentaries somehow that amatro pythe I was like.
- 1:18:53Speaker 3: So next time and then like the person, Yeah, it's
- 1:18:56Speaker 3: just the technology and the science and the math that
- 1:18:59Speaker 3: goes behind. It's just I guess I'm just like I was.
- 1:19:03Speaker 2: Watching the teaser and I was like, what frame rate
- 1:19:07Speaker 2: did you use? Like, we are we using like sixty
- 1:19:11Speaker 2: because you know it's American. Also, we are we in
- 1:19:13Speaker 2: four k are we? Aka? Like I need to know
- 1:19:17Speaker 2: what you're using? Yeah? And I also yeah, also at
- 1:19:23Speaker 2: the Japanese studio, so I think they had some of
- 1:19:25Speaker 2: the cameras and I was speaking out over those and
- 1:19:28Speaker 2: like this is amazing.
- 1:19:30Speaker 3: I mean yeah, I think I also everyone's going to
- 1:19:32Speaker 3: be to that level, right, No, because I'm very specific
- 1:19:36Speaker 3: because like I am a film nerd as well.
- 1:19:38Speaker 2: So I went to film in school and Harry Potter
- 1:19:40Speaker 2: did take me on that path. Like I saw an
- 1:19:43Speaker 2: interview with David Hayman and I was like, I love
- 1:19:46Speaker 2: to do his job or something similar. So I'm very
- 1:19:49Speaker 2: much like I want to know everything about films, and
- 1:19:55Speaker 2: Harry Potter's just just a different little niche exactly. So
- 1:20:00Speaker 2: Warner Brothers, we volunteers tribute. Yes, I will pay for
- 1:20:06Speaker 2: my own ticket over there, just just get.
- 1:20:11Speaker 3: Just into the set. I'll pay for everything else up
- 1:20:13Speaker 3: until that moment. Yeah, Needless to say, I think we're
- 1:20:17Speaker 3: all excited that what they really focused on in this
- 1:20:20Speaker 3: documentary was that was behind the scene things, and that
- 1:20:23Speaker 3: it brings more people into this world with us and
- 1:20:26Speaker 3: being excited about behind the scenes things. That's the short
- 1:20:29Speaker 3: version of the whole judget we just went on.
- 1:20:31Speaker 2: Yeah, and we're not done. We're only halfway through the
- 1:20:33Speaker 2: dop Sorry, it's gonna be like an all nighter for you, Lucy. Hey,
- 1:20:39Speaker 2: I've already committed to this. I have to get up
- 1:20:41Speaker 2: at five am to take my roommate to the.
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: Airport, so at this point you might as well just
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: stay as well.
- 1:20:46Speaker 2: Stay up.
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, So the naturalism is really a great bridging
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: point into costumes because we also get that influence in
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: the costume design and we get this really great clip
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: of the costume designers showing how they used leaves to
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: create the patterns and prints on things like a jacket
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: for Dumbledore.
- 1:21:11Speaker 2: Very specifically, can we just appreciate how the costume designer
- 1:21:15Speaker 2: was gaiking out?
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: Yes?
- 1:21:21Speaker 2: Oh, I love her. Also, I need to know how
- 1:21:23Speaker 2: she did her hair. It's like, girl, how's that staying up?
- 1:21:29Speaker 2: I need to know magic, it's just defying gravity. I
- 1:21:36Speaker 2: just love the contrast between the Muggle and the wizarding world.
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: Sorry, yeah, yeah, no, but yeah, to talk about that,
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: like I thought that was super interesting too, because they
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: really leaned into the colors and styles of the nineties
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: for the Muggle world, but they wanted to have that
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: contrast between the Muggle and the Wizarding World in costumes
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: as well, so they gave the Wizarding World more of
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: like she describes it as an inky look, which makes
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: sense when you see it, and it's more like organic
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: and tied to nature, whereas the mug of world is like,
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: you know, those like nineties blues and green and red
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: and like, so it's got this very different look in
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: like the man made versus the natural.
- 1:22:33Speaker 2: Like, I love how the films were they were going
- 1:22:35Speaker 2: for a time let's looks like I appreciate that, but
- 1:22:38Speaker 2: I love how the TV show is making it more
- 1:22:42Speaker 2: obvious between the two sides.
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:22:45Speaker 3: Oh, and like I was the opposite of that, right,
- 1:22:48Speaker 3: Like they're not going for a timeless lot. They're like, no,
- 1:22:51Speaker 3: we are going to time travel back into this time,
- 1:22:55Speaker 3: you know, And they talk about like finding real clothes
- 1:22:58Speaker 3: from the time. And as they're describing this, I'm literally like,
- 1:23:01Speaker 3: oh my god. They're talking about going to vintage shops
- 1:23:03Speaker 3: and stuff, and I'm like, I was born in nineteen
- 1:23:05Speaker 3: ninety like my vintage. Like I'm at this point where
- 1:23:08Speaker 3: like like I just had such a aah, a little
- 1:23:13Speaker 3: existential dread as they were talking about finding clothes from
- 1:23:16Speaker 3: the nineties. But yeah, they talk about like it being
- 1:23:19Speaker 3: very important to do that and recreating them. And I
- 1:23:22Speaker 3: love that because I think that, yes, the films are
- 1:23:26Speaker 3: timeless in a lot of ways, but at the same time, like,
- 1:23:29Speaker 3: let's not like what's wrong with us having it being
- 1:23:31Speaker 3: set in the time that it is. There's a reason
- 1:23:34Speaker 3: why shows that are set in the eighties are so
- 1:23:36Speaker 3: popular and do so well. Like people love the aesthetic,
- 1:23:39Speaker 3: they love the nostalgia. So I'm really glad that they're
- 1:23:42Speaker 3: leaning into that. And I also I am glad that
- 1:23:47Speaker 3: they're not like just making the Wizard's costumes just like
- 1:23:54Speaker 3: I don't I don't know the right word to use.
- 1:23:56Speaker 3: I don't want to say like ridiculous, because that's not
- 1:23:58Speaker 3: how they were in the films matter, Like, but do
- 1:24:00Speaker 3: you know what I mean, really, yeah, that's a better way,
- 1:24:02Speaker 3: Like they could, yes, outlandish, That's maybe the better word
- 1:24:05Speaker 3: I wanted to do. Is like they could have just
- 1:24:07Speaker 3: said like, well, this is like high fantasy and otherworldly
- 1:24:11Speaker 3: so we're just going to make them look that way,
- 1:24:14Speaker 3: but instead they're actually like more subdued in a way
- 1:24:18Speaker 3: than the Muggles, because like the nineties was kind of
- 1:24:21Speaker 3: outlandish clothing. And I really like how they described the
- 1:24:25Speaker 3: magical clothing as being beautiful because they are imperfect and
- 1:24:29Speaker 3: it's really what makes them magical is that it's all
- 1:24:32Speaker 3: these different materials and different bits of nature and like
- 1:24:37Speaker 3: almost this hodgepodge of things that they put together to
- 1:24:41Speaker 3: make their clothes, and like that's what makes them different.
- 1:24:45Speaker 2: Than I also loved how they they got so excited
- 1:24:51Speaker 2: when they saw someone out in the world who they're
- 1:24:53Speaker 2: just like, that person's magical just by the way they dress. Yeah,
- 1:24:57Speaker 2: I was like, that is amazing because also I appreciate
- 1:25:00Speaker 2: people as well who have.
- 1:25:01Speaker 3: Have like an exact style.
- 1:25:03Speaker 2: Yeah, And its like it is incredible, And I'm.
- 1:25:07Speaker 3: Drawn to them too. Walking around You're even really drawn
- 1:25:10Speaker 3: and it's like and I'm drawn in such a way
- 1:25:12Speaker 3: of like I want to know your story and I
- 1:25:14Speaker 3: want to know more about you, and look, you look
- 1:25:16Speaker 3: so cool and I wish I could be half as
- 1:25:18Speaker 3: cool as you.
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: And I think that's like part of it too, is
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: like the wizards are not dressing on trend. They're using
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: such a mixture of things because you know, I guess
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: like trends. I mean, sure they exist in the Wizarding World,
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: but it's not so much like think about how they've
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: been wearing robes for how many years, like how many
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: thousands of years? So yeah, I like that it's combining
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: a lot of different eras of clothing rather than just
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: one thing. Like it's not like just medieval, it's not
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: just British boarding school. It's like everything.
- 1:26:06Speaker 3: I'll make sure all of that.
- 1:26:07Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: Yeah, So we did get a closer look at the
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: Hogwarts uniforms as well, and yes, the vest, the knit
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: vests are indeed all maroon. The house colors are just
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: on the neckline of the vest.
- 1:26:27Speaker 2: So I actually didn't notice that.
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: Yeah, that was something we've been trying to figure out,
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: like looking at all the stills and the trailer and everything,
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: and yeah.
- 1:26:36Speaker 3: Because you could tell when we see like Draco and
- 1:26:39Speaker 3: them in the trailer. I think that's when we first
- 1:26:41Speaker 3: talked about it, where it's like, wow, like the VESTI
- 1:26:43Speaker 3: looks maroon here, but just with the silver and trim.
- 1:26:49Speaker 2: I love the new uniforms I love them. Yes, I
- 1:26:53Speaker 2: love how they pay homage to Scotland for the tweeds. Yeah,
- 1:26:58Speaker 2: they are beautiful.
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: They look really good.
- 1:27:02Speaker 2: Yeah, and they don't look like they come out of
- 1:27:05Speaker 2: costume shop. No.
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: I love the mixture of fabrics, like there's so many
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: different textures going on it.
- 1:27:14Speaker 2: Yeah, playing into like the wizarding will just grass whatever
- 1:27:18Speaker 2: they want to m.
- 1:27:21Speaker 3: Yeah. I think that. I really like the costumes too.
- 1:27:24Speaker 3: I actually I don't love that they're all Maroon. I'm
- 1:27:28Speaker 3: gonna stick on that. I definitely preferred them being like
- 1:27:31Speaker 3: the gray kind of like tweed and then having like
- 1:27:35Speaker 3: the because I just it just gray is a more
- 1:27:37Speaker 3: like neutral palette. And then we've got this differentiations of
- 1:27:40Speaker 3: the houses where Maroon just seems very like Gryffindor to me.
- 1:27:44Speaker 3: So it's like they all look like Gryffindors with like
- 1:27:46Speaker 3: a touch of something. So I will say it's I know,
- 1:27:49Speaker 3: we've been very positive the whole time. That's the one
- 1:27:51Speaker 3: like negative that I will add just for me personally,
- 1:27:55Speaker 3: But everything else us about the costume I love.
- 1:27:57Speaker 2: Yeah, I need to go back and watch that now
- 1:27:59Speaker 2: because I originally felt the marine was for Gryffindor and
- 1:28:02Speaker 2: then you know, sled room will have like a dark green.
- 1:28:05Speaker 2: I didn't notice that it was just a stripe. Now,
- 1:28:08Speaker 2: if that is the case, I'm we you know, call
- 1:28:11Speaker 2: like that's so weird.
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: It's a little strange.
- 1:28:14Speaker 3: Yeah, I think even if they do that house patch too.
- 1:28:17Speaker 3: I think we talked about that too. If on all
- 1:28:19Speaker 3: of them, it's like Gryffindor colors, it's like the maroon
- 1:28:22Speaker 3: and gold, and it's like, I think if they could
- 1:28:24Speaker 3: just change that and use that same logo but make
- 1:28:27Speaker 3: it the green and like a mustard yellow and blue,
- 1:28:30Speaker 3: or maybe they're not just doing those colors at all.
- 1:28:32Speaker 3: Maybe they're not. Well they are because we do see that.
- 1:28:34Speaker 3: We do see that in the scarves and the you know,
- 1:28:37Speaker 3: the collars.
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: But yeah, it's like Hogwarts has its own color of
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: like the maroon and.
- 1:28:43Speaker 3: Gold and then confusing because it's Griffin, right.
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: So like, are they going to make the Gryffin door
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: because Gryffindor is supposed to be more of a scarlet color. Yeah,
- 1:28:54Speaker 1: I wonder if they're going to make it brighter, like
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: more like a true red.
- 1:29:01Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:29:02Speaker 3: I think if they did that, it'll differentiate it a
- 1:29:04Speaker 3: little bit.
- 1:29:09Speaker 2: We've soon found out.
- 1:29:11Speaker 3: I know we haven't seen it. It's like we haven't
- 1:29:14Speaker 3: we've seen it, but we also haven't seen it enough
- 1:29:16Speaker 3: to like really like to your point, Lucy, to like
- 1:29:18Speaker 3: really kind of see what it looks like in action.
- 1:29:20Speaker 3: But I agree. I do love that they're using tartan.
- 1:29:25Speaker 3: I'm really hoping that the tartan that they showed us
- 1:29:27Speaker 3: is going to be like the official Hogwarts tartan because
- 1:29:31Speaker 3: it is very customary for Scottish institutions to have their
- 1:29:34Speaker 3: own tartan. It's part of the culture. I still have
- 1:29:36Speaker 3: my tartan from the Adam University of Edinburgh where I
- 1:29:39Speaker 3: did grad school. It's very it's it's very just part
- 1:29:43Speaker 3: of that culture. And so like exactly what you said,
- 1:29:45Speaker 3: Lucy about them just paying homage to Scotland and the culture,
- 1:29:48Speaker 3: because at the end of the day, like Hogwarts is
- 1:29:51Speaker 3: in Scotland and so like of course we'd have tartan
- 1:29:53Speaker 3: built in so I which I feel like to get.
- 1:29:57Speaker 2: In the films that a that at all, And I
- 1:30:01Speaker 2: would love it if they actually did go because you
- 1:30:05Speaker 2: can go and get your own tartan made, like you
- 1:30:09Speaker 2: can talk to someone and they can make it with
- 1:30:12Speaker 2: like specifics, like you can get your own specific tartan.
- 1:30:15Speaker 2: So I wonder if they did something like that, because
- 1:30:18Speaker 2: that would be very cool, especially if they want to
- 1:30:22Speaker 2: then make it into merchant because I love my Gryffindos
- 1:30:28Speaker 2: scarf I have because it says one hundred from Scotland.
- 1:30:34Speaker 3: Yeah, and quite one of those I want.
- 1:30:37Speaker 2: And I do know from the documentary that they did
- 1:30:40Speaker 2: say that it's all one hundred percent wool from Scotland,
- 1:30:44Speaker 2: So I wonder if they're using the same company again
- 1:30:47Speaker 2: maybe m Yeah, that's my thing on merch, like it
- 1:30:53Speaker 2: has to say it's from Scotland by that company, otherwise
- 1:30:57Speaker 2: I'm not getting it. I'm not getting it.
- 1:30:59Speaker 3: Yeah, I forgot. I put a note in here about
- 1:31:03Speaker 3: Snap's costume. So yeah, I just wanted to circle back
- 1:31:05Speaker 3: because obviously we got a few more glimpses of Snape
- 1:31:10Speaker 3: in this documentary, more than you know, than we got
- 1:31:13Speaker 3: in the trailer. And I know I last episode, I
- 1:31:17Speaker 3: was like a little harsh on the one still that
- 1:31:20Speaker 3: we got of like the leather get up with the
- 1:31:23Speaker 3: like zipper, and I was like, gosh, this is not
- 1:31:25Speaker 3: something Snape would wear. I'm okay with it now because
- 1:31:28Speaker 3: I one hundred percent think that this is his quidditch robes.
- 1:31:32Speaker 3: I messaged Amy after because I saw a TikTok where
- 1:31:36Speaker 3: it's so quick in the trailer you have to pause
- 1:31:38Speaker 3: it just perfectly to see. But in the trailer scene
- 1:31:43Speaker 3: where we see like Harry kind of walking towards the
- 1:31:45Speaker 3: quidditch pitch and it's the game that's Gryffindor versus Hufflepuff
- 1:31:48Speaker 3: in the like in the back corner, you can see
- 1:31:52Speaker 3: Snape emerging holding the broom and as we know from
- 1:31:55Speaker 3: the books, Snape referees this game. And so I we're good.
- 1:31:59Speaker 3: I think we're gonna get to see this because there
- 1:32:01Speaker 3: he is with his broom and in it you can
- 1:32:03Speaker 3: see that big long zipper And in that moment, I
- 1:32:06Speaker 3: was like, okay, like that makes sense that this like
- 1:32:09Speaker 3: leathery kind of zippered look like of course that's like
- 1:32:12Speaker 3: what he would wear flying a broomstick and refereeing put
- 1:32:15Speaker 3: its right. And so I think it's very clear that
- 1:32:17Speaker 3: that I think is that part of the costume, because
- 1:32:20Speaker 3: every other clip we've seen of him he's very much
- 1:32:23Speaker 3: in just a plain black, very snapelike costume NICs that
- 1:32:28Speaker 3: I love.
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: I have to say, this quidditch get up for him
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: is very stylish, more stylish than I would think Snape
- 1:32:35Speaker 1: would go.
- 1:32:35Speaker 3: But that's why I was a little hard on it
- 1:32:38Speaker 3: last week. Right when we saw that picture, I was like, oh,
- 1:32:41Speaker 3: I don't know about this, but I still agree that
- 1:32:44Speaker 3: it's a little too stylish for him. But I'm glad
- 1:32:46Speaker 3: that it doesn't seem to be necessarily his everyday wear
- 1:32:49Speaker 3: because I agree it's too stylish for him, but I
- 1:32:53Speaker 3: don't know. I mean, what he's wearing too is pretty,
- 1:32:55Speaker 3: is pretty stylish.
- 1:32:59Speaker 2: I'm slowly on board with Snape, but I still can't
- 1:33:02Speaker 2: get over he's here. I'm sorry, that is not Snape's hair.
- 1:33:06Speaker 2: Where's my greasy, greasy blackhead.
- 1:33:09Speaker 3: It's funny because I did message Amy and I was like, oh,
- 1:33:13Speaker 3: Snape looks really good, and I'm like, really gonna struggle
- 1:33:16Speaker 3: with this because like he's too handsome. I'm just like
- 1:33:19Speaker 3: I am, I'm gonna I'm gonna have a struggle with
- 1:33:21Speaker 3: being attracted to Snape, and I guess I'm just gonna
- 1:33:24Speaker 3: have to.
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: I mean, we already I feel like went through the
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: worst of it with our attraction to Albus Dumbledore and
- 1:33:33Speaker 1: Uber Fourth Dumbledore.
- 1:33:35Speaker 3: Especially Aber fourth. Oh my god.
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: So I think we can get over Snape hopefully, Like
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: I feel like we come to terms with that.
- 1:33:43Speaker 3: Well yeah, yeah, I feel like I just need to
- 1:33:48Speaker 3: get When you get older, right too, your attractions change
- 1:33:51Speaker 3: and now I'm like, oh the professors.
- 1:33:53Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, I feel like I would definitely get used
- 1:33:57Speaker 2: to Snape. But it's not what I pictured in the
- 1:33:59Speaker 2: book in terms of like especially the hair, Like the
- 1:34:02Speaker 2: hair was the defining part of him I did expect. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:34:08Speaker 2: but the action seems cool. He seems genuine, genuine, so
- 1:34:12Speaker 2: I'm excited to see what he will bring. He seems
- 1:34:15Speaker 2: super I can get over the hair. It's fine, I'll
- 1:34:17Speaker 2: get over the hair.
- 1:34:18Speaker 3: And I think too, And I know we talked a
- 1:34:20Speaker 3: lot about too. Is like sometimes just like waiting to
- 1:34:23Speaker 3: see how somebody like embodies a character because I think
- 1:34:26Speaker 3: at the end of the day, like, at least for me,
- 1:34:28Speaker 3: that's what makes the character come alive, and that's how
- 1:34:32Speaker 3: That's also how I'm able to see Dan as Harry
- 1:34:36Speaker 3: and Dom as Harry, and I'm able to see the
- 1:34:39Speaker 3: Curse Child actors as these same characters because they're embodying
- 1:34:43Speaker 3: the characteristics of them. Right, and I will say I
- 1:34:48Speaker 3: mean in the scenes that we have gotten like of Snape,
- 1:34:50Speaker 3: Like he definitely has the aura. Like I was like,
- 1:34:53Speaker 3: there's some Snape aura there. So yeah, I'm excited. I
- 1:34:57Speaker 3: think he looks good.
- 1:34:58Speaker 1: It's lurking around looking up to no good.
- 1:35:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I loved it.
- 1:35:03Speaker 3: I loved it all right.
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: So then our next section we have the graphic design.
- 1:35:10Speaker 1: We got to finally see some of these designs from
- 1:35:14Speaker 1: the series, which obviously differ quite a bit from Mina Lima.
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: They're doing their own thing, which I think is really cool,
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: Like it's a good, like new take on these things.
- 1:35:27Speaker 2: I love the graphics. It's new, it's fun, it's fresh.
- 1:35:30Speaker 2: The chocolate frogs looks so cool they do. I'm still
- 1:35:33Speaker 2: wrapping my head around the bottom beer, but we'll get
- 1:35:36Speaker 2: over that.
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: I really liked the sweet boxes how they're the triangle
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: they opened up, like, I think that's really fun. Yeah.
- 1:35:45Speaker 3: I don't know how I feel about the Birdie Box
- 1:35:47Speaker 3: Birdie Bots box design. We'll see. I'll wait and see
- 1:35:51Speaker 3: it in action. It's not colorful, it's very muted, and
- 1:35:58Speaker 3: I think it kind of like loses the we use
- 1:36:02Speaker 3: this word so much last week, the whimsy, but I'm
- 1:36:08Speaker 3: sure I'll come round. I think it's just some of
- 1:36:10Speaker 3: it is like an initial like you said, Lucy with
- 1:36:12Speaker 3: the butter beer like label. I think some of some
- 1:36:15Speaker 3: of these things we are going to have an initial
- 1:36:16Speaker 3: reaction to of like, I don't know if I like that,
- 1:36:18Speaker 3: but then once we see it in practice, I think
- 1:36:22Speaker 3: that my opinion will change on it. I'd also put
- 1:36:27Speaker 3: in the dock here just some of the new signs
- 1:36:28Speaker 3: that we get to see, and diagon Alley as well,
- 1:36:30Speaker 3: so we see like elipse all Imporium, Oli Vander's Quality.
- 1:36:33Speaker 3: Quidditch supplies some other little ones too, but these are
- 1:36:36Speaker 3: obviously some of our main ones. And yeah, they're they're
- 1:36:40Speaker 3: similar but different, but very different. And yeah, I just
- 1:36:44Speaker 3: want to see what you guys thought of the science.
- 1:36:49Speaker 2: Honestly, I didn't really have much thought on the designs
- 1:36:52Speaker 2: apart from that they did seem very similar. I just
- 1:36:54Speaker 2: love that the guy who was one of the sign
- 1:36:57Speaker 2: painters his dad worked on the films, so that was cool.
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: That's cool.
- 1:37:01Speaker 2: Other than that, it's like, uh, I didn't really have
- 1:37:06Speaker 2: much Oh, the puffin and three quotas one was cooler.
- 1:37:11Speaker 2: In big, it's big.
- 1:37:13Speaker 1: Now Yeah, see, like they were different, but they weren't jarring. Yeah,
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: like it's still fit.
- 1:37:23Speaker 3: So yeah, quality Quidaitch supplies is actually still pretty similar.
- 1:37:28Speaker 3: Like I actually googled like the storefront in Universal because
- 1:37:32Speaker 3: I'm like, wow, this looks like very similar. Yeah, I
- 1:37:36Speaker 3: think they all look really great. I still I mean,
- 1:37:39Speaker 3: I will always love like our Olivander's logos that we
- 1:37:42Speaker 3: have from the films, and I love like the oh
- 1:37:45Speaker 3: with the like the wand and I will always love that.
- 1:37:48Speaker 3: But I loved what they're doing here too, and it
- 1:37:51Speaker 3: all still everything still to me captures the same aesthetic. Yeah,
- 1:37:56Speaker 3: it's slightly different, but it has the same familiar aesthetic
- 1:37:59Speaker 3: to it. Yeah, I liked everything.
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: It's very just undeniably Wizarding World without being a copy.
- 1:38:06Speaker 2: Yeah, which I like that This is probably one of
- 1:38:09Speaker 2: the few areas that will stay quite similar, which is
- 1:38:14Speaker 2: nice that it's, like you said, it's not jarring. It's
- 1:38:16Speaker 2: still very much home but slightly different.
- 1:38:22Speaker 3: Because they're making you know, obviously just you know, want
- 1:38:24Speaker 3: to make it their own, and I think they're doing it.
- 1:38:26Speaker 3: But yeah, but I mean we also get descriptions of
- 1:38:30Speaker 3: some of these things in the books and stuff. Right too.
- 1:38:32Speaker 3: So I think that, like there's going to be some
- 1:38:34Speaker 3: similarity similarities because we're basing it on the same source material.
- 1:38:41Speaker 2: Yeah, there's only so far you can make a different
- 1:38:45Speaker 2: right right.
- 1:38:47Speaker 3: I think that too. When we talked, we talked about
- 1:38:49Speaker 3: that a little bit with like Hagrid's costuming and stuff,
- 1:38:51Speaker 3: and I know a lot of people were like, well
- 1:38:53Speaker 3: it looks the same, or we get.
- 1:38:55Speaker 2: A big opinions. I see, I need to see his
- 1:39:02Speaker 2: coat of pockets and I need I need him to
- 1:39:06Speaker 2: be Mary Poppins. Yeah. I just reread that part in
- 1:39:10Speaker 2: the book and I'm like, oh my god, where's his
- 1:39:12Speaker 2: coat of pockets? Because I remember when I watched the
- 1:39:13Speaker 2: films and it's like, okay, we're not getting the Coada pockets.
- 1:39:16Speaker 2: It's fine, it's fine, but now I need it. I
- 1:39:20Speaker 2: need him to take out the kettle. I need him
- 1:39:22Speaker 2: to take out sausage and just build a fire pit. Well,
- 1:39:25Speaker 2: the Dursleys are just watching. I'm sorry.
- 1:39:28Speaker 1: Didn't he have like door mice in one pocket?
- 1:39:31Speaker 2: He has the most random stuff that I just wanted.
- 1:39:35Speaker 2: It's not that hard to make a coat of pockets.
- 1:39:39Speaker 4: Side.
- 1:39:39Speaker 3: Yeah, I was gonna say maybe the inside.
- 1:39:42Speaker 2: Okay, I can get. If it's on the inside, that's fine,
- 1:39:44Speaker 2: you know, just open it up. Here's what I've got.
- 1:39:48Speaker 2: But I just need it, Like there's certain parts in
- 1:39:52Speaker 2: the book that I just want to see on screen.
- 1:39:56Speaker 2: And I don't think I'm asking much for a coata pockets.
- 1:40:00Speaker 2: Like they did Mary Poppins, they did Mary Poppins Return,
- 1:40:04Speaker 2: it can't be that hard.
- 1:40:08Speaker 3: Well, when they listen to our episode, they'll make a
- 1:40:10Speaker 3: note and be like, oh wait, we got to make
- 1:40:12Speaker 3: sure for Lucy, we got to go I shart that
- 1:40:17Speaker 3: costume lady, like after how much you praised her in
- 1:40:19Speaker 3: her hair though, like I bet you she'd go back
- 1:40:21Speaker 3: and do that for you.
- 1:40:22Speaker 2: Oh yeah, and she is a huge because her son
- 1:40:25Speaker 2: is a huge man. So I reckon she got her
- 1:40:27Speaker 2: son on board, and she'll be like, actually, yeah, we
- 1:40:31Speaker 2: need you that.
- 1:40:31Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, Well I had a like just a little
- 1:40:38Speaker 3: section in here about like some of the sets that
- 1:40:40Speaker 3: we like also get to see, like a lot of
- 1:40:42Speaker 3: it is really quick, right, but but at the same
- 1:40:45Speaker 3: time we still get pretty good glimpse of things. So
- 1:40:48Speaker 3: we do get a little better look at Harry's cupboard
- 1:40:53Speaker 3: and kind of all the things on the walls and
- 1:40:55Speaker 3: like all the little knickknacks that are in there.
- 1:40:57Speaker 1: It's so depressing, just this thin little mattress on the floor. No.
- 1:41:05Speaker 2: Another scene I want to see is how you're getting
- 1:41:08Speaker 2: his bedroom. It did not make sense any sense in
- 1:41:13Speaker 2: the film. I just need it because it's just a
- 1:41:20Speaker 2: bit of realization from the days they's gone. We can't
- 1:41:24Speaker 2: abuse them anymore. They're watching.
- 1:41:26Speaker 1: I want to see Dadley have his tantrum about his
- 1:41:28Speaker 1: second bedroom being taken away.
- 1:41:32Speaker 3: I bet we get it.
- 1:41:33Speaker 2: I bet we get it, yep, because if we don't,
- 1:41:37Speaker 2: it's just not gonna make any sense by the time
- 1:41:39Speaker 2: book two rolls around.
- 1:41:44Speaker 3: So we already talked a little bit about seeing the
- 1:41:46Speaker 3: new sign for platform nine and three quarters, losing the
- 1:41:50Speaker 3: little three quarters and making it nice and big and words,
- 1:41:53Speaker 3: And we also get a few glimpses of the platform
- 1:41:57Speaker 3: and the Hogwarts Express. We get to see the new
- 1:42:00Speaker 3: like the Hogsmead Railroad like logo on the train, and
- 1:42:04Speaker 3: I think it all looks really good. And I think,
- 1:42:06Speaker 3: obviously it looks very familiar, because there's only so much
- 1:42:09Speaker 3: you can do with like a train platform. But I
- 1:42:13Speaker 3: think it looks really cool.
- 1:42:13Speaker 2: It looks a lot like the studio tour in a way,
- 1:42:18Speaker 2: like just.
- 1:42:18Speaker 3: How it's laid out, it does, I agree?
- 1:42:21Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: Yeah, which cool they built like you know, there's like
- 1:42:25Speaker 1: a little cafe and stuff, like it looks very like
- 1:42:29Speaker 1: a train station.
- 1:42:32Speaker 3: Yeah. We get a quick glimpse of what looks like
- 1:42:37Speaker 3: probably the interior of Olivanders, and it looks familiar, right,
- 1:42:44Speaker 3: like you've got all these wands and stuff, but it
- 1:42:45Speaker 3: also looks very different. I actually really loved how like
- 1:42:49Speaker 3: simple and clean and organized that it looked, which is
- 1:42:52Speaker 3: very different than kind of like the chaotic mess that
- 1:42:54Speaker 3: we have of Olivanders in the movies.
- 1:43:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't. Yeah, I think I need to wrap
- 1:43:03Speaker 2: my head around that bit as well. Like I love it,
- 1:43:06Speaker 2: but I also love that I feel like Olivander's just
- 1:43:09Speaker 2: on diagnos ATHD. Everything's everywhere but.
- 1:43:12Speaker 3: He yes' or it's like it's an organized mess, which
- 1:43:18Speaker 3: I can understand because I also live my life in
- 1:43:20Speaker 3: an organized mess. So but of course we only see
- 1:43:24Speaker 3: like one little part, right, so like we have no
- 1:43:26Speaker 3: idea what it looks like behind the camera. We're just
- 1:43:28Speaker 3: kind of seeing this one little wall, so we don't
- 1:43:31Speaker 3: really know what it will look like. Although the scene
- 1:43:35Speaker 3: that we got of Olivander in the trailer, like that
- 1:43:37Speaker 3: Olivander looks like an Olivander that would be very like
- 1:43:40Speaker 3: organized and like like know where all my stuff is?
- 1:43:43Speaker 3: Where the Olivander we get in the films, like his
- 1:43:45Speaker 3: Olivander store like very much like it mimics him. Yeah,
- 1:43:49Speaker 3: so yeah, very curious to see what we get there.
- 1:43:53Speaker 3: They also talk a little bit about Gringotts and show
- 1:43:56Speaker 3: some blueprints of it. We kind of get to see it,
- 1:43:58Speaker 3: and I think it us come across as like a
- 1:44:01Speaker 3: much more simple and like normal building, but still has
- 1:44:05Speaker 3: like the grandness to it.
- 1:44:07Speaker 2: Mh. I'm excited, yeah, because I.
- 1:44:12Speaker 3: Think that's where the magical elements like really would be, right,
- 1:44:16Speaker 3: is once you get into the space that like wouldn't
- 1:44:19Speaker 3: be I think it makes sense that the outside looks
- 1:44:23Speaker 3: like a normal building, like any building would, but then
- 1:44:26Speaker 3: you step inside and that's really where that's grand, right.
- 1:44:32Speaker 1: I mean, like banks in the Muggle world are not
- 1:44:35Speaker 1: these big columned things, So yeah, it does make sense
- 1:44:42Speaker 1: to make it a little bit more simple.
- 1:44:46Speaker 3: They also talked a little bit more about Private Drive
- 1:44:49Speaker 3: and how they really wanted to make it be very
- 1:44:51Speaker 3: rooted in reality from like a Muggle perspective. And I loved,
- 1:44:56Speaker 3: like all the family pictures that we see in the
- 1:44:58Speaker 3: Dursley house because that is like what you would exc
- 1:45:00Speaker 3: back to see in a house in the nineties. There's
- 1:45:02Speaker 3: tons of family pictures all over the wall and and
- 1:45:05Speaker 3: just not even that. But they look like real I'm
- 1:45:08Speaker 3: pretty they are real pictures. Like they're not like they
- 1:45:10Speaker 3: could just like cgi some things in but like, these
- 1:45:14Speaker 3: look like real pictures because I think they are real pictures.
- 1:45:17Speaker 3: And we see pictures of Dudley as a baby and
- 1:45:21Speaker 3: a young boy, and then I love the wedding photo
- 1:45:24Speaker 3: that we get vernon a petunia, and we get to
- 1:45:27Speaker 3: see like Harry's grandparents there and Mom looks a little displeased,
- 1:45:32Speaker 3: probably because obviously Lily is not there and this feud
- 1:45:36Speaker 3: and stuff between her daughters, and I just I loved
- 1:45:39Speaker 3: that picture that we.
- 1:45:40Speaker 1: Saw, Yeah, which is really cool because like I guess
- 1:45:44Speaker 1: I never thought about that before that Harry probably had
- 1:45:48Speaker 1: seen pictures of his grandparents because they would have still
- 1:45:53Speaker 1: be which makes me frank.
- 1:45:55Speaker 2: I don't think we know what happened to them, because
- 1:45:58Speaker 2: we know what happened to James's parents, but not Lily's parents. Interesting.
- 1:46:06Speaker 3: Yeah, I see. I immediately thought of that when I
- 1:46:09Speaker 3: saw that picture. Like at first, I'm like, oh, this
- 1:46:11Speaker 3: is a cute wedding picture, and then I was like,
- 1:46:13Speaker 3: oh my god, wait, this is like Harry's grandparents.
- 1:46:16Speaker 1: Yeah, because like in the books and stuff, it's like
- 1:46:19Speaker 1: very much implied that the first time he sees them
- 1:46:23Speaker 1: is in the Bear of Aara said, but that can't be,
- 1:46:28Speaker 1: like unless Petunia had a strained relationship with them and
- 1:46:32Speaker 1: had no photos around. But like you would think she
- 1:46:35Speaker 1: would like this one.
- 1:46:38Speaker 3: Maybe not a lot of them, but like I could
- 1:46:40Speaker 3: absolutely see this particular picture that we see being a
- 1:46:43Speaker 3: picture that they would have had in their house.
- 1:46:46Speaker 2: Especially if they passed, which I'm assuming happened when they
- 1:46:50Speaker 2: the boys were quite young mm hmm. Or at the
- 1:46:53Speaker 2: same time that Lili and James did.
- 1:46:55Speaker 1: Right like before Harry was born.
- 1:47:00Speaker 2: Maybe, yeah, which make which makes a lot of sense
- 1:47:04Speaker 2: why they never showed up, because they would have told
- 1:47:06Speaker 2: Harry about his parents.
- 1:47:08Speaker 1: Right and they would have taken Harry in. So they
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: had to have died sometime after Petunia in Vernon's wedding,
- 1:47:16Speaker 1: but before Harry was.
- 1:47:18Speaker 2: Born, or before just before hawks Halloween mm hmm.
- 1:47:28Speaker 1: Hmm.
- 1:47:29Speaker 2: Maybe they were the ones that died in the car crash.
- 1:47:32Speaker 3: Mm hmm.
- 1:47:34Speaker 1: Maybe.
- 1:47:39Speaker 3: And then we do get to see a little bit
- 1:47:41Speaker 3: more in depth of like Hogwarts as well, So we
- 1:47:44Speaker 3: get to see a little bit more of like the
- 1:47:45Speaker 3: Hormology classroom, which of course we kind of have already
- 1:47:47Speaker 3: gotten some looks at kind of our first looks at
- 1:47:51Speaker 3: what what I think is probably the Potion's classroom, which
- 1:47:54Speaker 3: I think looks really cool, really dark, really ominous, and
- 1:47:57Speaker 3: again love all of the candlelight, which we talked about
- 1:48:01Speaker 3: in our trailer breakdown as well. And we do get
- 1:48:05Speaker 3: also a little bit more glimpses at the Great Hall
- 1:48:07Speaker 3: as well as the and I think it, I mean,
- 1:48:11Speaker 3: it looks like the Great Hall to me. Yeah it does,
- 1:48:15Speaker 3: so I liked it. But yeah, so I guess now
- 1:48:22Speaker 3: that we've like talked through all of these different pieces,
- 1:48:27Speaker 3: what I think was our overall kind of thoughts on
- 1:48:31Speaker 3: this documentary. And we talked at the beginning of like
- 1:48:33Speaker 3: our first kind of impression of it, But what was
- 1:48:35Speaker 3: our overall thoughts after we've been able to digest it
- 1:48:37Speaker 3: a little bit.
- 1:48:40Speaker 1: I Mean, I'm always all for behind the scenes look,
- 1:48:44Speaker 1: so I'm all about it I think it was really cool.
- 1:48:48Speaker 1: I wish it was longer, say give us an hour
- 1:48:54Speaker 1: fortes definitely expecting more than thirty minutes. But yeah, I
- 1:48:59Speaker 1: think it was really really cool, very smart, as we said,
- 1:49:06Speaker 1: from a marketing perspective kind of. I mean, they've got
- 1:49:10Speaker 1: to be aware of like how much this means to people,
- 1:49:18Speaker 1: and just the hesitancy of people, you know, being like,
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: oh my gosh, I can't believe they're remaking this, Please
- 1:49:25Speaker 1: don't ruin it. So like, it was incredibly smart of
- 1:49:29Speaker 1: them to do this, I think now as opposed to
- 1:49:33Speaker 1: after it comes out, just to be like, look, this
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: is what you're going to get. This is how good
- 1:49:39Speaker 1: it's going to look like. Trust us, and I mean
- 1:49:44Speaker 1: I drink the kool aid. It worked.
- 1:49:46Speaker 2: So yeah, I loved it so much. And it sounds
- 1:49:52Speaker 2: like from when from how Nick Frost ended it that
- 1:49:56Speaker 2: we're probably going to get another one, because I think
- 1:50:00Speaker 2: he just says we'll see you next time or something
- 1:50:02Speaker 2: like that and just sort of hinted, which would be
- 1:50:04Speaker 2: like there's more to come. So I hope that maybe
- 1:50:08Speaker 2: we'll get another one in a couple months time, and
- 1:50:10Speaker 2: then one just after everything is released, Like I think
- 1:50:16Speaker 2: it's very smart, well Warner Brothers chose and HBO chose
- 1:50:20Speaker 2: to do.
- 1:50:21Speaker 1: They could continue this like throughout the production of the
- 1:50:24Speaker 1: show for like every season, because there's gonna be new
- 1:50:28Speaker 1: things that they're gonna have to be.
- 1:50:29Speaker 2: Nothing is a secret, Like there's no point keeping a
- 1:50:33Speaker 2: secret like it's in the books.
- 1:50:37Speaker 1: We've seen it on film, right, Huh Yeah.
- 1:50:42Speaker 3: I think both the points I put in the docu
- 1:50:44Speaker 3: both have kind of already touched on. I think that,
- 1:50:47Speaker 3: like to the point we were just talking about, I
- 1:50:49Speaker 3: think the fact that like they even are going through
- 1:50:52Speaker 3: the process of filming all of this footage like makes
- 1:50:55Speaker 3: me excited that we could and probably will get more
- 1:50:58Speaker 3: documentaries and or behind the scenes things throughout the series,
- 1:51:02Speaker 3: and even more than we got for the films. And
- 1:51:06Speaker 3: I do really hope as well, like I didn't think about,
- 1:51:08Speaker 3: like if we could possibly get more even before the show,
- 1:51:13Speaker 3: I would love that if they kind of continue to
- 1:51:15Speaker 3: do a couple little bit more teasers here and there,
- 1:51:17Speaker 3: especially if they want to just keep it to like
- 1:51:19Speaker 3: thirty minutes. And also to the point that you made, Amy,
- 1:51:23Speaker 3: I think that another thing strategically that they did here
- 1:51:28Speaker 3: is at least in my opinion. I think that they
- 1:51:32Speaker 3: showed that this series is in the right hands. I
- 1:51:36Speaker 3: think that their focus on the people that are like
- 1:51:41Speaker 3: literally behind the magic of making the show and highlighting
- 1:51:44Speaker 3: their connection to this series, whether it's familiar, whether it's
- 1:51:48Speaker 3: like the costume designer who wants to get it right
- 1:51:51Speaker 3: for her son, whether it's you know, them talking about
- 1:51:56Speaker 3: their responsibility. They did not shy away about how big
- 1:52:00Speaker 3: of a responsibility is on them and that they have
- 1:52:02Speaker 3: to get it right for the fans. And they talk
- 1:52:04Speaker 3: about the diehard fans, and like, I think that it's
- 1:52:07Speaker 3: so clear that they are thinking of us and considering us,
- 1:52:12Speaker 3: and it's probably got them a little stressed out too, right,
- 1:52:15Speaker 3: But it's a good stress, right, It's like a stress.
- 1:52:17Speaker 3: It's like, we have to get this perfect because these
- 1:52:20Speaker 3: people are depending on us, and you know, I think
- 1:52:24Speaker 3: I think back to like when we before we started
- 1:52:26Speaker 3: getting looks at the show, we did talk a lot
- 1:52:29Speaker 3: about how, like you know, from a business decision, like
- 1:52:32Speaker 3: of course they were going to remake this. It's it
- 1:52:35Speaker 3: makes so much sense financially to remake Harry Potter and
- 1:52:39Speaker 3: put all the steak in Harry Potter, but this documentary
- 1:52:43Speaker 3: to me did not make it seem at all like
- 1:52:46Speaker 3: we're just doing this as a cash grab. Oh yeah,
- 1:52:50Speaker 3: I and I believe that's a ton of money to
- 1:52:52Speaker 3: make this absolutely.
- 1:52:54Speaker 1: I mean they'll make it back, but it's yeah, they're
- 1:52:57Speaker 1: investing what they should be investing.
- 1:53:00Speaker 2: And I've got people asking me. They're just like, why
- 1:53:03Speaker 2: are they remaking Harry Potter? Why are you doing like
- 1:53:05Speaker 2: something like the Marauders. I was like, I feel like
- 1:53:08Speaker 2: them remaking Harry Potter as a TV show is a prototype,
- 1:53:15Speaker 2: not a prototype, but like a dip in the waters
- 1:53:18Speaker 2: of how they could then expand the Wisdening world into
- 1:53:22Speaker 2: other TV shows like they do with Game Friends, huh,
- 1:53:25Speaker 2: and then we might get the Marauders like as a
- 1:53:29Speaker 2: like Bridgeton did like it in between season year like
- 1:53:33Speaker 2: between three and four or something won't make sense, and
- 1:53:36Speaker 2: we will get the Founders and Foldamore and stuff like that.
- 1:53:39Speaker 2: I feel like it's a dip in the water of
- 1:53:42Speaker 2: how they might go because Fantastic Beasts did not work
- 1:53:45Speaker 2: out as films.
- 1:53:48Speaker 3: You have to dry the people in, right, and like,
- 1:53:49Speaker 3: how are you going to drive them in with the
- 1:53:52Speaker 3: story that they already know and love? Really? And so
- 1:53:56Speaker 3: I agree that I think that, especially as I mean
- 1:53:59Speaker 3: obviously we don't know, like with all the streaming, bid
- 1:54:02Speaker 3: wars and stuff, with everything like where this is all
- 1:54:04Speaker 3: going to land. But I think that the way you
- 1:54:06Speaker 3: just described that, Lucy is such an HBO thing to
- 1:54:09Speaker 3: do in terms of like, you know, I think that
- 1:54:14Speaker 3: we can't I don't know, I think right now, like
- 1:54:18Speaker 3: a lot of adaptations like are going that TV route.
- 1:54:21Speaker 3: We've talked about this a lot, right, Whereas if making
- 1:54:26Speaker 3: books into TV shows was as big as it is
- 1:54:29Speaker 3: now as it was when Harry Potter first came out,
- 1:54:32Speaker 3: I think we probably would have originally gotten it as
- 1:54:35Speaker 3: a show over films, But in the time that it
- 1:54:38Speaker 3: came out, it was more popular to make them into films, and.
- 1:54:41Speaker 2: It was so financially right easier to make it into
- 1:54:45Speaker 2: films at the time as.
- 1:54:46Speaker 3: Well, right, And so really I really got the sense
- 1:54:50Speaker 3: as they were talking through everything here, and they even
- 1:54:53Speaker 3: talk about that they like later on, they're like, this
- 1:54:57Speaker 3: is given us a chance to still honor what came before,
- 1:55:01Speaker 3: but just do it. Plus I'm going to use that again,
- 1:55:05Speaker 3: like you know, to be able to add in the
- 1:55:07Speaker 3: extra details, be able to add in the little things
- 1:55:09Speaker 3: we didn't get to see, Like I did not get
- 1:55:12Speaker 3: the sense from any of them talking that their thing,
- 1:55:14Speaker 3: their plan here is to erase what we already have,
- 1:55:17Speaker 3: but they're still playing homage to it and they want
- 1:55:21Speaker 3: to honor it. But it's just, yeah, it's just another
- 1:55:26Speaker 3: forum where we can more.
- 1:55:28Speaker 2: John's quote, who plays Domedal and I think it was
- 1:55:30Speaker 2: one of the first quotes of the documentary where it
- 1:55:32Speaker 2: says it's to let the story brieve, to go down
- 1:55:35Speaker 2: the rabbit holes, to enact all the things that are
- 1:55:37Speaker 2: going on in the wings, and he's just like, you
- 1:55:40Speaker 2: can't do that in a film, which we saw in
- 1:55:42Speaker 2: like Book four and five. But we made episodes series, which,
- 1:55:49Speaker 2: since it's going to go straight on digital, has the
- 1:55:51Speaker 2: opportunity to be more episodes. As the books go on,
- 1:55:56Speaker 2: you can and we already know that we're going to
- 1:55:59Speaker 2: get more story reason we've ever gotten, Like like I
- 1:56:02Speaker 2: said at the start, we're getting Draco's, we're getting Hamioni's backstories,
- 1:56:06Speaker 2: and it's just the possibilities are a bit more endless.
- 1:56:11Speaker 1: Imagine how good this is going to be when we
- 1:56:14Speaker 1: get to like season four and we can open on
- 1:56:18Speaker 1: Little Hanngleton and all the residents in the pub gossiping,
- 1:56:23Speaker 1: and like just like all those little things that are
- 1:56:27Speaker 1: so good in the books.
- 1:56:30Speaker 2: I always found I love like I loved them before,
- 1:56:34Speaker 2: but I always hated the movie because it was so
- 1:56:38Speaker 2: rushed and you just you just miss all those little
- 1:56:43Speaker 2: bits in between the tasks that made it what it was,
- 1:56:48Speaker 2: and like all those little like easter eggs to the
- 1:56:50Speaker 2: next couple of films, well books, and I feel like
- 1:56:55Speaker 2: that also happened, like the first couple where you're missing
- 1:56:57Speaker 2: all those little stor eggs that you just like, oh
- 1:57:00Speaker 2: my god, I didn't realize like this was like here
- 1:57:04Speaker 2: so early on in book one. That played a huge
- 1:57:07Speaker 2: part in like Book two.
- 1:57:09Speaker 1: Yeah, I want to see Marobie Gaunt showing up at
- 1:57:13Speaker 1: the Orphanage pregnant. I want to see her selling off Thercket,
- 1:57:18Speaker 1: like I want to see all of those things that
- 1:57:21Speaker 1: we don't get to see, Please give them to Yeah.
- 1:57:24Speaker 2: I want to see the Muggles getting tortured at the
- 1:57:28Speaker 2: quidditch game.
- 1:57:29Speaker 1: Yeah, it's like that's a huge part of what so
- 1:57:34Speaker 1: much happens at the World Cup.
- 1:57:37Speaker 2: It's just just yeah, and there's really big parts of
- 1:57:42Speaker 2: like the books, like the overall, like themes the books
- 1:57:48Speaker 2: that got lost in the movies that I do find
- 1:57:52Speaker 2: that people don't give the awphul credit for it, and
- 1:57:55Speaker 2: like reasons why certain plot points or certain like themes
- 1:57:59Speaker 2: just go under the radar. And it's like like racism
- 1:58:05Speaker 2: and stuff like that played a huge part because of
- 1:58:08Speaker 2: all these little bits between the Mubles and the Wizarding
- 1:58:11Speaker 2: World half Bloods and pure Bloods. The pure Bloods, it's
- 1:58:15Speaker 2: like they played big roles and there are always these
- 1:58:18Speaker 2: little like bits here and there that we just never
- 1:58:21Speaker 2: got in the films. So I'm hoping that we'll come
- 1:58:26Speaker 2: across from the TV show.
- 1:58:27Speaker 3: I don't think HBO is afraid to dive into those themes,
- 1:58:32Speaker 3: which I think was very clear in this teaser trailer,
- 1:58:36Speaker 3: and I think, you know we talked about this amy
- 1:58:39Speaker 3: and that episode two is that like being with HBO
- 1:58:41Speaker 3: now kind of allows them to maybe do those things
- 1:58:45Speaker 3: that will appeal to like the adult fans and let
- 1:58:48Speaker 3: those story elements breathe in a way that I don't
- 1:58:51Speaker 3: think would have ever made it into the films, both
- 1:58:54Speaker 3: because of the time that the films came out and
- 1:58:56Speaker 3: also just the constraints of something being on a film.
- 1:59:00Speaker 3: I do think that we'll see those things. I mean,
- 1:59:01Speaker 3: I'm already super excited for Half Bloodprints season because there's
- 1:59:07Speaker 3: so much in that book that obviously did not make
- 1:59:09Speaker 3: the film or did not translate to the film, but
- 1:59:12Speaker 3: I want to see played out. And also with that,
- 1:59:15Speaker 3: I'm like, I have people in my personal life that
- 1:59:18Speaker 3: have become really big fans of Harry Potter but are
- 1:59:21Speaker 3: not readers, and so like, I know, are not going
- 1:59:24Speaker 3: to go read the books, and like I'm always like
- 1:59:26Speaker 3: trying to like talk about like all these like cool
- 1:59:28Speaker 3: things that you're missing from the books and stuff. And
- 1:59:30Speaker 3: so I'm also, yes, I want people to go and
- 1:59:33Speaker 3: read the books, like, please go read the books. That's
- 1:59:35Speaker 3: where the story really lives. But I'm excited that the
- 1:59:38Speaker 3: show is giving this opportunity for people who maybe just
- 1:59:42Speaker 3: aren't readers and are not going to do it to
- 1:59:45Speaker 3: see those bits.
- 1:59:46Speaker 2: Yeah, not just that, Like I haven't read the books
- 1:59:48Speaker 2: in ten aduse maybe ye have me too. Even I'm
- 1:59:52Speaker 2: now rereading, I'm going, oh my god, I forgot that happened,
- 1:59:56Speaker 2: and oh like reading these things just like oh yeah,
- 1:59:58Speaker 2: I love that same but I didn't a group of
- 2:00:00Speaker 2: how good that scenees yees so. And I'm so excited
- 2:00:04Speaker 2: that HBO picked it up. Like HBO has track record
- 2:00:08Speaker 2: of making these films, like we've got a lot of
- 2:00:10Speaker 2: the Rings. They had, Game of Friends.
- 2:00:13Speaker 3: I'm pretty sure the Amazon had Lord of the Rings,
- 2:00:16Speaker 3: Rings of Power.
- 2:00:17Speaker 2: Oh, Amazon had a lot of the Rings. We got
- 2:00:19Speaker 2: the mixed up, but you know, they have a track
- 2:00:21Speaker 2: record of making great TV. I'm so, I'm actually so
- 2:00:25Speaker 2: glad Netflix did not get it.
- 2:00:28Speaker 3: Well, I mean that's where I'm saying, we have to
- 2:00:30Speaker 3: kind of wait and see what happens because Netflix bies
- 2:00:33Speaker 3: EACHBO and there's a lot, there's a lot going on there,
- 2:00:36Speaker 3: and unfortunately HBO is looking like it's not going to
- 2:00:38Speaker 3: be able to remain its own little things.
- 2:00:41Speaker 2: So we have fingers crossed that maybe they can. Let's
- 2:00:45Speaker 2: hope that they can pull it out until Harry Potter
- 2:00:48Speaker 2: comes out, because I.
- 2:00:50Speaker 3: Have a lot of money from that, right right, right,
- 2:00:54Speaker 3: But yeah, so any I just think that this I mean, if,
- 2:00:57Speaker 3: like you said, Amy, like you're just drinking the kool aid, Like, yeah,
- 2:01:00Speaker 3: I am too. And now the trailer, right, the trailer
- 2:01:04Speaker 3: was like a cup of a kool aid, right, and
- 2:01:07Speaker 3: now this documentary is just I'm just drinking the gallon, like.
- 2:01:10Speaker 1: I'm ready for the big.
- 2:01:13Speaker 2: Thing.
- 2:01:13Speaker 3: Yeah, that's the next thing. And yeah, if I wasn't already,
- 2:01:19Speaker 3: I mean, obviously I was already on board, but I
- 2:01:21Speaker 3: think the documentary made me even more on board and
- 2:01:25Speaker 3: just made me as a fan. I think so too.
- 2:01:28Speaker 3: I think, especially because I've seen a lot of discourse
- 2:01:30Speaker 3: online of people talking about like, wow, I just have
- 2:01:33Speaker 3: a lot of trust and the people that are making
- 2:01:35Speaker 3: this and like getting to see them talk about it
- 2:01:38Speaker 3: and how much it means to them, and even like
- 2:01:40Speaker 3: having like Papa talk about like apparently I mean he's
- 2:01:43Speaker 3: probably like the same age as me, growing up with
- 2:01:46Speaker 3: the books and reading the books, and like just being
- 2:01:49Speaker 3: able to have people that experience that nostalgia and know
- 2:01:52Speaker 3: how important the story is to the culture. Now bringing
- 2:01:55Speaker 3: those characters to life, yeah, it's just amazing too.
- 2:02:01Speaker 2: And it's so poor and to have a lot of
- 2:02:03Speaker 2: the artists back as well, it's just amazing. And I
- 2:02:06Speaker 2: do feel like if it was to be sold to
- 2:02:08Speaker 2: someone like Netflix or I think Paramount's the other one
- 2:02:11Speaker 2: that's in the in the ring, that they already have
- 2:02:15Speaker 2: a team behind it. They already have an established teams.
- 2:02:18Speaker 2: So hopefully if that does happen, it won't change too much.
- 2:02:23Speaker 2: It'll just more be like they put their name on
- 2:02:25Speaker 2: it instead of the whole premise or ecosystem changes, if
- 2:02:31Speaker 2: that makes sense.
- 2:02:34Speaker 1: So with the conclusion of our main discussion, that also
- 2:02:37Speaker 1: concludes Lucy's time with us. Thank you for staying up
- 2:02:43Speaker 1: into the wee hours of the night in Australia to
- 2:02:46Speaker 1: record with us.
- 2:02:48Speaker 2: That's so good. I love doing this. As soon as
- 2:02:50Speaker 2: you said to you, do you want to come on,
- 2:02:51Speaker 2: was like, I don't care what time it is, I'm
- 2:02:52Speaker 2: going to do it because I love Yeah, I love
- 2:02:56Speaker 2: chatting with you guys. I love geeking out about film
- 2:02:58Speaker 2: and TV and Harry Potter, like is just just my passion. Sorry,
- 2:03:03Speaker 2: I love it so much. So thank you so much
- 2:03:05Speaker 2: for having me on again. I can't until we do
- 2:03:07Speaker 2: it again.
- 2:03:09Speaker 1: So nice.
- 2:03:13Speaker 3: So last week we asked what are your thoughts on
- 2:03:16Speaker 3: the teaser trailer for the Harry Potter TV series, so
- 2:03:22Speaker 3: Vicky shared with us that immediately started crying, which same Vicky,
- 2:03:28Speaker 3: Same Vicky said, it looks beautiful, it's so nostalgic, and
- 2:03:32Speaker 3: the book touches are incredible. I love the atmosphere. I
- 2:03:37Speaker 3: love the Hogwarts look too, from the entrance to the
- 2:03:40Speaker 3: classrooms and the gryffind Or common room. Do I love
- 2:03:43Speaker 3: the Hogwarts logo? Next question, I will say we did
- 2:03:47Speaker 3: get an update from Vicky very similar to what we
- 2:03:50Speaker 3: just talked about in the episode where after watching the
- 2:03:53Speaker 3: documentary and I'm talking about the elements of nature, We've
- 2:03:57Speaker 3: all seemed to come around a little bit to our
- 2:04:00Speaker 3: h logo in the trees. So Vicky said, the Dursley's
- 2:04:05Speaker 3: look impeccable to me and have such ugly wallpaper, It's perfect.
- 2:04:10Speaker 3: I got super teary over Hagrid McGonagall and Snape. Can
- 2:04:14Speaker 3: we talk about mcgonagall's tartan robes. I think I missed that.
- 2:04:18Speaker 3: I'm gonna have to go back and watch that now.
- 2:04:22Speaker 3: But Vicky said this this made her deceased r r
- 2:04:28Speaker 3: ip ricky. Vicky also said that regarding Dumbledore's shot reddits
- 2:04:35Speaker 3: slots think it's a tuning fork he's holding, which I
- 2:04:37Speaker 3: think I had mentioned to it looks like a tuning fork,
- 2:04:40Speaker 3: and that his hat might be a callback to the
- 2:04:42Speaker 3: hat that Jude Law's younger version wears and Fantastic beats
- 2:04:45Speaker 3: and Vicky.
- 2:04:46Speaker 1: Said thoughts, I didn't even think about that.
- 2:04:50Speaker 3: I was thinking it looked familiar. I was always thinking that,
- 2:04:54Speaker 3: like young Dumbledore's hat was just like a sign of
- 2:04:57Speaker 3: the times, like it was a very typical hat that
- 2:04:59Speaker 3: they would wear, like in the twenties. But yeah, maybe
- 2:05:03Speaker 3: he kept it all these years. Interesting, which Vicky said
- 2:05:11Speaker 3: also alludes to maybe it is the same hat and
- 2:05:13Speaker 3: maybe the top grows over time as he ages.
- 2:05:15Speaker 1: Loll, it's like Harry's hair.
- 2:05:18Speaker 3: Yeah, Vicky said, I was excited for the show when
- 2:05:22Speaker 3: it was first announced, and even more excited about it now,
- 2:05:25Speaker 3: which same, Vicky, Same, And then Vicky said side thoughts, Nicole,
- 2:05:29Speaker 3: it would be really interesting to study the phenomenon of
- 2:05:32Speaker 3: being able to accept a number of realities at once.
- 2:05:35Speaker 3: For me, I think about the books in my I
- 2:05:37Speaker 3: think about the books in my head, the OG movies,
- 2:05:40Speaker 3: the new HBO casting, and the voices from the full
- 2:05:43Speaker 3: cast audiobooks, lots of truths for the Potter world in
- 2:05:46Speaker 3: my head. Yeah, which I agree, And that was a
- 2:05:51Speaker 3: callback to me talking about like just wanting to do
- 2:05:54Speaker 3: a psychological study on how it's easier maybe for some
- 2:05:58Speaker 3: people to kind of be able to have and accept
- 2:06:01Speaker 3: multiple different versions of a show where it's harder for
- 2:06:05Speaker 3: you know, others, or like even just how yeah, how
- 2:06:09Speaker 3: that even works? Because sometimes I even think about, wow,
- 2:06:12Speaker 3: how can I look at all of these different things
- 2:06:14Speaker 3: but all still see the same thing and all like
- 2:06:17Speaker 3: believe that it's the same thing. And then also we
- 2:06:23Speaker 3: got some notes from Jerry, so Jerry said on the
- 2:06:26Speaker 3: whole the trailer left me feeling hopeful for the show.
- 2:06:30Speaker 3: It looks like we will get to see some of
- 2:06:32Speaker 3: the events in Harry's early life that were referred to
- 2:06:34Speaker 3: in flashbacks in the books and barely hinted at in
- 2:06:37Speaker 3: the movies, which I feel will help with character development.
- 2:06:41Speaker 3: The hair cutting scene was wonderful. I wonder if we
- 2:06:44Speaker 3: will get the shrinking sweater. The trio and the other
- 2:06:49Speaker 3: children who we see look cute and sweet, except for
- 2:06:52Speaker 3: Draco and Dudley and their cronies who are supposed to
- 2:06:54Speaker 3: be mean. She said, I didn't notice Neville or the
- 2:06:57Speaker 3: rest of the Weasley children. I actually do want to
- 2:06:59Speaker 3: point out I thought we didn't see Neville either, but
- 2:07:02Speaker 3: I was watching somebody else's reaction to the trailer, and
- 2:07:05Speaker 3: they pointed out that we might that we do see
- 2:07:08Speaker 3: or might see Neville in the herbology scene next to
- 2:07:12Speaker 3: maybe Hermione. I'd have to go back and compare the
- 2:07:15Speaker 3: kids that are in that scene to like the photos
- 2:07:18Speaker 3: we got of the actors, because I don't recognize like
- 2:07:20Speaker 3: the secondary characters yet. Just we've only seen one picture
- 2:07:23Speaker 3: of them, right, But I think that Neville is probably
- 2:07:26Speaker 3: in that scene, Yeah, says I hope that they aren't
- 2:07:32Speaker 3: cut out. I definitely don't think they they will be.
- 2:07:36Speaker 3: I think that we just didn't have time to see
- 2:07:39Speaker 3: them all in this trailer. For sure.
- 2:07:40Speaker 1: They're all definitely cast like we have that family photo
- 2:07:43Speaker 1: of the Weasleys altogether. Yeah.
- 2:07:47Speaker 2: So.
- 2:07:47Speaker 3: Jerry also said the subway scene and the rest with
- 2:07:50Speaker 3: Hagrid were great. Those who say he looks too much
- 2:07:53Speaker 3: like Robbie Coltrane are missing the point. It's just like
- 2:07:56Speaker 3: what we talked about kind of in this episode, right.
- 2:07:58Speaker 3: His face is his own. The hair in the clothing
- 2:08:00Speaker 3: and so on are just following the book description, as
- 2:08:02Speaker 3: they also did for the movie. Jerry said the snow
- 2:08:06Speaker 3: Angel was a great added bit of fun and whimsy.
- 2:08:09Speaker 3: I hope it actually shows up in the show and
- 2:08:11Speaker 3: doesn't turn out to be a Jacob saying, I want
- 2:08:14Speaker 3: to be a wizard, and the Fantastic Beast trailer a
- 2:08:17Speaker 3: well loved bit that only showed up in a deleted scene.
- 2:08:20Speaker 3: You know, I wasn't even thinking about that. Is that
- 2:08:22Speaker 3: like sometimes we do see scenes and the trailers that
- 2:08:25Speaker 3: don't end up in the final product. That does happen
- 2:08:28Speaker 3: a lot, I will say, I do think that ends
- 2:08:30Speaker 3: up happening more for movies than it does for TV shows, though,
- 2:08:33Speaker 3: so hopefully everything we saw does make it till the
- 2:08:36Speaker 3: final cut, because I also love that snow Angel scene,
- 2:08:41Speaker 3: Jerry said. The hardest thing for her to accept and
- 2:08:44Speaker 3: get used to is the change in graphic design. I'm
- 2:08:47Speaker 3: so used to and invested in Mina Lima from the
- 2:08:50Speaker 3: movies and the theme parks and the illustrated books and
- 2:08:53Speaker 3: various merch A new graphic design feels like it will
- 2:08:56Speaker 3: take getting used to. Perhaps once the first few episodes
- 2:09:00Speaker 3: have been released, you can get Carolyn Hope I spelled
- 2:09:02Speaker 3: her name right to discuss the differences in the graphic
- 2:09:05Speaker 3: design choices between the two. Yes, we would love to
- 2:09:08Speaker 3: have Carolyn to be back on to talk about now
- 2:09:11Speaker 3: that we see some of the new graphic design, Jerry said,
- 2:09:14Speaker 3: But I am not objecting to the changes. They had
- 2:09:16Speaker 3: to use a different graphic design team, both to distinguish
- 2:09:19Speaker 3: the TV show from the movies and probably for contractual reasons.
- 2:09:23Speaker 3: I feel pretty sure I will adjust, but it will
- 2:09:25Speaker 3: take time. Yeah, I agree with that too, you know, Jerry,
- 2:09:29Speaker 3: and I'm actually really interested to see now that we've
- 2:09:32Speaker 3: got the documentary and we've seen a little bit more
- 2:09:35Speaker 3: of the graphic design work. Definitely interested to know your
- 2:09:38Speaker 3: thoughts on the graphic design now that we've seen a
- 2:09:41Speaker 3: little more of it.
- 2:09:42Speaker 1: Yeah, definitely. I feel like so much of this is
- 2:09:47Speaker 1: like our opinions change with time. I mean, look at
- 2:09:51Speaker 1: how many of our opinions have changed just in the
- 2:09:53Speaker 1: amount of time since we got the trailer.
- 2:09:55Speaker 3: I hated that h logo, and now I'm like, yeah,
- 2:09:57Speaker 3: I love it because of what it represents he'll buy
- 2:10:00Speaker 3: a pin, right, I'm already ready for the merch with
- 2:10:03Speaker 3: that logo on it. So, and I think right now too,
- 2:10:07Speaker 3: to your point, I think right now, obviously we've been
- 2:10:10Speaker 3: like Amy and I have been very positive about the show,
- 2:10:13Speaker 3: and we're very excited about the show, and like, you know, definitely,
- 2:10:16Speaker 3: I understand we've not shared a lot of criticisms thus
- 2:10:20Speaker 3: far because it's just right now, I think the both
- 2:10:23Speaker 3: of us don't really have many other than you know,
- 2:10:26Speaker 3: we've talked about a few things. But I think that
- 2:10:28Speaker 3: with time and the more that we see, like I think, yeah,
- 2:10:32Speaker 3: opinions might I mean, do I think my opinions are
- 2:10:34Speaker 3: going to shift so much that I'm going to be
- 2:10:35Speaker 3: not on board with this anymore? Absolutely not. I'm so
- 2:10:38Speaker 3: on board drinking the kool aid, as we keep saying.
- 2:10:40Speaker 3: But I think as we start to see more, like
- 2:10:42Speaker 3: I think for sure, there's going to be things that
- 2:10:44Speaker 3: come up that I'm like, oh, I don't know if
- 2:10:46Speaker 3: I love this. And even with Jerry mentioning like with
- 2:10:49Speaker 3: Mina Lima, like, I'm sure once I love like the
- 2:10:52Speaker 3: Daily Profit paper so much, right, And I could totally
- 2:10:55Speaker 3: see me struggling to get on board a little bit
- 2:10:57Speaker 3: with however they decide to design Daily Profit because to me,
- 2:11:01Speaker 3: it's already perfection and what else could you do with that?
- 2:11:04Speaker 3: So but definitely just trying to I guess, I guess
- 2:11:09Speaker 3: I'm trying to keep an open mind with it and
- 2:11:11Speaker 3: we'll just take it as it comes.
- 2:11:15Speaker 1: That's right, That's all we can do, all right, so
- 2:11:20Speaker 1: our discussion question for this episode is what were you
- 2:11:25Speaker 1: most excited or surprised to see in finding Harry the
- 2:11:29Speaker 1: craft behind the Magic. We would love to hear from you,
- 2:11:32Speaker 1: so drop us an email at Revellio Podcast staff at

- 2:12:09Speaker 1: all of this great TV show content, but we'll get there.
- 2:12:14Speaker 3: Yeah. Hopefully we will be talking about Professor lupin next week,
- 2:12:19Speaker 3: unless they decide to drop another bombshell on us, which
- 2:12:21Speaker 3: I do not think that we will get anything else,
- 2:12:23Speaker 3: So I think that we will probably be talking about
- 2:12:26Speaker 3: our favorite Dada professor.
- 2:12:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:12:31Speaker 1: Until then, I'm Amy and I'm Nicole Mischief managed
