- 1:43Speaker 1: Good to be here. I was just telling uh Dwight
- 1:45Speaker 1: the story about the time I, uh me and head
- 1:48Speaker 1: went to the Kanye event. Yep. We ran into you
- 1:51Speaker 1: at the bus little bus where you had to catch
- 1:54Speaker 1: a bus in Hollywood, yep, yep, And you were by yourself,
- 1:57Speaker 1: Del and you had just moved out to LA a
- 2:00Speaker 1: day or two before, like I think we you were
- 2:03Speaker 1: you had come on the show before that, but it
- 2:06Speaker 1: was like you were like just like enjoying the LA ship,
- 2:09Speaker 1: like you know what I'm saying. We ran new it
- 2:11Speaker 1: was the kids see Ghosts kits ghost and we took
- 2:14Speaker 1: a bus there and like, yeah, it was it was
- 2:16Speaker 1: pretty crazy. That was a crazy last night. Yeah, it
- 2:18Speaker 1: was a vibe and I think I tweeted you were
- 2:21Speaker 1: signing the waiver and it said good music on it. Yeah,
- 2:23Speaker 1: I took a picture of you, said oh yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 2:25Speaker 1: signed a good music. That was a real thing. That
- 2:27Speaker 1: was a real thing. That was a real thing. People
- 2:29Speaker 1: thought I was signed a good music. Yeah. So what's
- 2:31Speaker 1: up man? How's first of all, congrats because the album
- 2:33Speaker 1: is incredible. Thank you, bro. That mean the world to me.
- 2:36Speaker 1: Appreciate that. That's it, you know, as dope as the
- 2:38Speaker 1: first project was, I feel like you leveled up with
- 2:41Speaker 1: this one. I feel like it was more cohesive. It
- 2:43Speaker 1: feels just more personal, like, thank you, bro, thank you.
- 2:46Speaker 1: That means the world. Appreciate that for real. It took
- 2:48Speaker 1: your time, Yeah, I did, you know. I feel like
- 2:52Speaker 1: you could have followed up, you know, within a year
- 2:54Speaker 1: with the way the last album went. But yeah, I
- 2:56Speaker 1: feel like you really took your time with this project.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Obviously you gave us, I ad Epe gave us some taste,
- 3:02Speaker 1: but like what was for you, Like was that on
- 3:04Speaker 1: purpose to like really not rush the sophomore album? Yeah? Now,
- 3:08Speaker 1: it was a string of things. One, you know, this
- 3:10Speaker 1: pandemic right, I'm really a touring artist, like I make
- 3:14Speaker 1: music to perform it. And two is like I always
- 3:18Speaker 1: wanted to sort of set myself up to where I
- 3:22Speaker 1: have an expectation of taking my time with albums. Not
- 3:26Speaker 1: an expectation, but it's just patient myself career wise, career wise.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Excuse me. I know I could always deliver high quality
- 3:33Speaker 1: album every two years. You know, if I would have
- 3:36Speaker 1: dropped the album in twenty twenty, like back to back,
- 3:38Speaker 1: right after Lost Boy, it wouldn't have been good, you know,
- 3:41Speaker 1: in my opinion, it wouldn't have been at the level
- 3:43Speaker 1: to where I needed it to be. And so I
- 3:45Speaker 1: just really I had to live a bunch of life honestly,
- 3:48Speaker 1: to talk about some new things, you know, and go
- 3:52Speaker 1: through some shit in order to express that into music.
- 3:55Speaker 1: And yeah, it wasn't a purpose. It's funny though, the
- 3:58Speaker 1: day that Lost Boy came out, I remember I was like, yeah,
- 4:00Speaker 1: it's probably gonna be like another two years before I
- 4:02Speaker 1: drop another album. I'm like, nigga, what And I'm like, all,
- 4:05Speaker 1: you're gonna see but and but it's not like I'm
- 4:09Speaker 1: just sitting there for six months and then I'm like, Okay,
- 4:11Speaker 1: I got a year and a half left. Let's get
- 4:12Speaker 1: it done, like I'm working every all time, Yeah, the
- 4:14Speaker 1: whole time. But I just didn't want to rush shit
- 4:18Speaker 1: and just put some shit out just to put some
- 4:20Speaker 1: shit out, just to feed the algorithm. You know, I
- 4:22Speaker 1: just want it cause I know I would look back,
- 4:26Speaker 1: like twenty years from now, ten, fifteen years from now,
- 4:29Speaker 1: however long it may be, and be like, I'm so
- 4:31Speaker 1: glad that I took my time with this album, Versus
- 4:35Speaker 1: I'll regret it more if I just rushed and put
- 4:38Speaker 1: out an album Versus now I took this time out,
- 4:41Speaker 1: all this time and creating and cultivating this album and
- 4:44Speaker 1: putting all the energy, all my effort into it versus
- 4:48Speaker 1: just throwing some shit out, rushing it out just to
- 4:50Speaker 1: put it out. Plus, if we think of like the
- 4:52Speaker 1: all time greats, right we're thinking like Kendrick, we think
- 4:55Speaker 1: of a lot of these guys nahs, like, you know,
- 4:57Speaker 1: they took their time from it. I mean, these guys
- 4:59Speaker 1: take their time, Like, for sure, Hole's not dropping every
- 5:01Speaker 1: twelve months, you know what I'm saying. For sure, Yeah,
- 5:04Speaker 1: it's a couple. Everybody got their own path. J for
- 5:08Speaker 1: a while, he covers every year every summer. Jay Z.
- 5:10Speaker 1: When I was a kid. But you know, yeah, jay
- 5:14Speaker 1: Z's the greatest of all time. For Shure, everybody got
- 5:16Speaker 1: their own path. And it's not like I'm looking at
- 5:19Speaker 1: like a Kendrick blueprint or like, Okay, Kendrick dropped three
- 5:23Speaker 1: years in between his first and second now or two
- 5:26Speaker 1: years between. It's freaking seven out. So I got it.
- 5:28Speaker 1: It's just what naturally how I progress. Like I recorded
- 5:31Speaker 1: hundreds and hundreds of songs, but I knew what I
- 5:35Speaker 1: wanted to say, what point I wanted to get across,
- 5:37Speaker 1: And I just wanted to make a complete, cohesive body
- 5:39Speaker 1: of work. And I knew I just wanted to take
- 5:43Speaker 1: my time, not with like actually creating, but with just
- 5:46Speaker 1: finishing everything up. No, I feel like over the last
- 5:49Speaker 1: couple of years, we've seen you in the studio with
- 5:51Speaker 1: so many people, yeah, where it's like, oh shit, oh shit,
- 5:55Speaker 1: he's in with oh man, Like how much music did not?
- 6:00Speaker 1: Like you said you recorded hundreds of songs, Like, yeah,
- 6:02Speaker 1: how tough was it? Because twelve Like obviously there are
- 6:04Speaker 1: songs that are already out. Yeah, like when you put
- 6:07Speaker 1: when you when the album came out, you said, press
- 6:09Speaker 1: play from one to twelve consecutively. Yeah, that's how I
- 6:11Speaker 1: want you to listen to the album for sure. How
- 6:15Speaker 1: hard was it to keep it so tight, because you know,
- 6:19Speaker 1: it could have been twenty songs it could have been
- 6:21Speaker 1: you know, for sure, not as hard as you think,
- 6:24Speaker 1: because every song that's on the album, as soon as
- 6:25Speaker 1: I recorded it, I knew it made me feel a
- 6:28Speaker 1: certain way. I was like, yeah, I really like this one.
- 6:31Speaker 1: It was two songs that I left off the album
- 6:33Speaker 1: that I really three songs that I really really enjoyed.
- 6:36Speaker 1: I don't know if I'm going to deluxe some or
- 6:39Speaker 1: just wait and saving for a whole new like body
- 6:41Speaker 1: of work or a whole new idea, just put it
- 6:44Speaker 1: out there, whatever, but it was three songs that I
- 6:47Speaker 1: left out that I really like loved. But at one
- 6:49Speaker 1: point in time, every single song that's on the album
- 6:52Speaker 1: was like my favorite song that I made at the time,
- 6:54Speaker 1: if that makes sense. That makes sense. Yeah, And it
- 6:56Speaker 1: just they just happened to fit together. It's do that
- 7:00Speaker 1: you have to be put Freddy on the album because
- 7:01Speaker 1: you guys also did the record with NAS for Spotify?
- 7:05Speaker 1: What's that for Spotify? Life is like it was for Spotify?
- 7:08Speaker 1: Life is like a dice game, right, I'm super you
- 7:12Speaker 1: know what's crazy. I was really hoping you and Benny
- 7:14Speaker 1: would have worked together put you guys on the text
- 7:16Speaker 1: like yeah, but yeah yeah rock with Bro have to
- 7:18Speaker 1: get you and Freddie you know, to have him on
- 7:20Speaker 1: the record. How how was that, Like, how did you
- 7:22Speaker 1: guys relationship kind of grow from maybe that life is
- 7:25Speaker 1: like a dice game to you know, him hopping on
- 7:27Speaker 1: that joint. Uh. To be honest, like, I don't like
- 7:29Speaker 1: to say things are more than what they are, you
- 7:31Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. Freddy just it's always just been
- 7:33Speaker 1: a mutual respect as fellow artists and peers, and whenever
- 7:37Speaker 1: we see each other, it's just love and respect, you know.
- 7:41Speaker 1: And he seems like from you know, my interactions with him,
- 7:44Speaker 1: which haven't been like too many, but he seemed like
- 7:46Speaker 1: a stand up guy, you know what I'm saying. And
- 7:49Speaker 1: even more than that, I just knew his vocal tone
- 7:51Speaker 1: on Champagne Glasses would have sounded like really good, and
- 7:54Speaker 1: it did. For sure. He did. He delivered. He definitely
- 7:57Speaker 1: delivered on the album you talk of about you got
- 8:01Speaker 1: your Pops pressure Washer Van Yeah, yeah, which which is dope,
- 8:06Speaker 1: by the way, So explain that. So your your dad,
- 8:09Speaker 1: you set him up with a business. You hooked him
- 8:11Speaker 1: up with a little small business like tool. Yeah. Yeah,
- 8:13Speaker 1: he already had his business like going, and he didn't
- 8:17Speaker 1: and you know, he didn't like call me and asked
- 8:19Speaker 1: me anything. It's just something I wanted to sow a
- 8:21Speaker 1: seed into his business, you know. And but it's just
- 8:24Speaker 1: small things like that, that's just that makes me. That
- 8:28Speaker 1: makes what I do worthwhile to me to where I'm
- 8:30Speaker 1: able to just like, Okay, let me just sow a
- 8:32Speaker 1: seed in this business right here, invest more so like
- 8:36Speaker 1: invest into it, you know. And it's a dope thing. Yeah,
- 8:41Speaker 1: I mean, like I feel like family's obviously very important
- 8:44Speaker 1: to you. It's been a big theme of both your projects.
- 8:47Speaker 1: On Mama's Hood, you talk about your boy who you lost. Yeah,
- 8:49Speaker 1: for sure. I was just on the phone with his
- 8:52Speaker 1: mom too, literally yesterday, Juwan Ross, I was on the
- 8:54Speaker 1: phone with his mom and my bad. I was just
- 8:59Speaker 1: thinking out loud, you know, but I was just saying
- 9:00Speaker 1: like that that was like a kind of a crazy verse. Yeah.
- 9:04Speaker 1: I feel like there's so many people who probably have
- 9:08Speaker 1: been in that position where they got a friend who like,
- 9:10Speaker 1: you know, they like you know, did you like it
- 9:14Speaker 1: felt like you had some sort of guilt, Like, yeah,
- 9:16Speaker 1: for sure, survival's guilt. Yeah, I think that's a real thing,
- 9:19Speaker 1: and I think a lot of people go through that.
- 9:20Speaker 1: So to hear you talk about it and I don't
- 9:22Speaker 1: I don't think like people might have expected that from you,
- 9:24Speaker 1: because I think we look at you it's kind of like,
- 9:27Speaker 1: you know, like a not a street rapper. Yeah for sure.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Like to know that one of your best friends got
- 9:33Speaker 1: into a shootout and passed away, and like, yeah, that
- 9:35Speaker 1: made you feel it was like, you know, a pretty
- 9:36Speaker 1: vulnerable moment on the album. Was that something that like
- 9:39Speaker 1: happened and you knew right away, I gotta I gotta
- 9:41Speaker 1: make sure I share this with the world. It's it
- 9:44Speaker 1: was a kind of like therapy. Noah, it wasn't. More
- 9:46Speaker 1: so I got to share it with the world. It
- 9:49Speaker 1: just happened. I wrote that song the week, you know,
- 9:51Speaker 1: I found out he got killed, and U, this is
- 9:53Speaker 1: somebody I'm with every day in high school. We played
- 9:56Speaker 1: basketball together. Even when I go to college. You used
- 9:59Speaker 1: to always come up and visit me, and you know,
- 10:03Speaker 1: and all of these things. So when he got killed, man,
- 10:05Speaker 1: I just felt like guilty, Like, man, I could have
- 10:07Speaker 1: saved him, like I single handedly. I felt like, man,
- 10:09Speaker 1: I might as well have pulled the trigger because I
- 10:11Speaker 1: could have just saved him, you know. And when that
- 10:15Speaker 1: beat came on, it just gave me like those vibes.
- 10:18Speaker 1: And I say that to say that it's unfortunate that
- 10:22Speaker 1: it takes, you know, like I said, a lot of
- 10:24Speaker 1: my music, it's a real life experience just transmuted into
- 10:27Speaker 1: emotions and musical form, and unfortunately, sometimes it's something as
- 10:31Speaker 1: tragic as that sparks a song, you know, and yeah,
- 10:36Speaker 1: it's a crazy thing, man, It's an unfortunate part of life.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Like I lost a lot of people that I grew
- 10:40Speaker 1: up with. Rest in peace, a little Tony, Rest in peace,
- 10:43Speaker 1: Fly Brandon and one of my friends got killed in
- 10:45Speaker 1: middle school. Brandon Tony got killed right after we graduated, Juan.
- 10:49Speaker 1: And it's just so many people I grew up with,
- 10:52Speaker 1: you know, that I'm with day to day. We live
- 10:54Speaker 1: in the same neighborhood, this and that, and I'm like,
- 10:57Speaker 1: be a day later, I'm like, Damn, were just walking
- 10:59Speaker 1: home from school together. They get killed, you know, And
- 11:01Speaker 1: so it just really been bugging me because it's something
- 11:04Speaker 1: that I've gotten used to, you know, people that I'm
- 11:08Speaker 1: with every day and going to school with getting either
- 11:12Speaker 1: killed prematurely before they're eighteen years old in some cases,
- 11:17Speaker 1: or getting locked up for a super long time. And
- 11:19Speaker 1: it's something I've like grown accustomed to, it used to
- 11:22Speaker 1: to where like I may not even shed a tear,
- 11:24Speaker 1: you know, And it's not because I'm not empathetic or
- 11:26Speaker 1: I love him, I'll miss him, but because I'm just
- 11:29Speaker 1: so used to the shit, and I'm thinking it's normalized
- 11:31Speaker 1: to me. So I'm thinking it's normal. When I'm talking
- 11:33Speaker 1: to other people about they like, nah, you get desensitized. Yeah, exactly.
- 11:39Speaker 1: I mean keeping it with your homies, like talk about
- 11:42Speaker 1: how the intro and your boy Shiloh being part of
- 11:45Speaker 1: the album, how that like like kind of give people
- 11:47Speaker 1: the background on who Shiloh is, and yeah, you know
- 11:49Speaker 1: he's got the interlude and the Yeah, yeah, so shatout.
- 11:53Speaker 1: That's my brother. Like we we from and we're not blood,
- 11:58Speaker 1: but we always was with each other since day one.
- 12:00Speaker 1: So we always used to tell everybody who was brothers.
- 12:02Speaker 1: We was both like light skin or whatever, So this
- 12:05Speaker 1: is like my brother and he was rapping as well,
- 12:08Speaker 1: like before I was not before I was but at
- 12:11Speaker 1: the same time, but he was popping before I was,
- 12:13Speaker 1: and me seeing him like that close, but he was
- 12:16Speaker 1: still like super heavy in the street shit, you know.
- 12:19Speaker 1: And so me seeing him like glowing up in his
- 12:23Speaker 1: way just on some straight street. Buzz On didn't have
- 12:26Speaker 1: no manager, didn't I was his manager at one point
- 12:29Speaker 1: in time. Yeah, Yeah, I was managing him because I
- 12:32Speaker 1: just knew, like, Okay, I know how to upload shit
- 12:34Speaker 1: to like a tune corde, I know how to monetize it,
- 12:37Speaker 1: just the regular basic shit, small shit. And so me
- 12:42Speaker 1: seeing him go up that kind of a lot of times,
- 12:45Speaker 1: it just takes you seeing things, especially up close, to
- 12:48Speaker 1: understand that you can attain the same sort of things
- 12:51Speaker 1: even to a higher level. And us growing up together
- 12:56Speaker 1: and him getting locked up for twenty five twenty four years,
- 12:58Speaker 1: to be exact, for a murder, that's something that that
- 13:01Speaker 1: messed up with me psychologically because I end up blowing
- 13:04Speaker 1: up or getting on the scene or so the year
- 13:07Speaker 1: after he gets locked up. So I'm like, damn, if
- 13:09Speaker 1: I was able to, if I was at where I'm
- 13:11Speaker 1: at now, he might be in a whole different situation,
- 13:14Speaker 1: you know. But that's why I thought it was very
- 13:17Speaker 1: important to highlight where he's at, you know, on the
- 13:20Speaker 1: intro and in the loud as well, that's dope. I
- 13:23Speaker 1: was just on the phone with a matter of fact
- 13:24Speaker 1: when I came in here. Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's dope.
- 13:27Speaker 1: So when he like, yeah, I mean, how long is
- 13:29Speaker 1: he gonna be? Is he got a while? Or yeah
- 13:31Speaker 1: he got twenty four years? Shit? But we're working right now,
- 13:34Speaker 1: working with a bunch of he got a team of lawyers,
- 13:36Speaker 1: and I'm working with Robert Rooks from Reform and a
- 13:40Speaker 1: couple other guys to really put all the resources that
- 13:43Speaker 1: we have now and able to in order to get
- 13:45Speaker 1: him out, as well as my dog Mac, his cole defender,
- 13:48Speaker 1: who got thirty years, another one of my dogs. So
- 13:51Speaker 1: this is just just trying to utilize this access to
- 13:56Speaker 1: relationships I have to be able to help, especially so
- 13:59Speaker 1: close to hime. Do you with with what you know?
- 14:04Speaker 1: I feel like a lot of people during the pandemic,
- 14:07Speaker 1: during kind of what happened like in June of twenty twenty, like,
- 14:10Speaker 1: I feel like there was a lot of I feel
- 14:14Speaker 1: like there was a lot of fake wokeness, sure, a
- 14:17Speaker 1: lot of predatory you know, people were doing a lot
- 14:22Speaker 1: of posting and a lot of shit just for to
- 14:25Speaker 1: make themselves feel good. Sure it was very trendy. Absolutely, No,
- 14:29Speaker 1: that's one hundred percent all day. But you obviously ended
- 14:33Speaker 1: up getting arrested. I think my song was there, Yeah, Yeah,
- 14:36Speaker 1: was Trade there? Yeah? Yeah, Trade the Truth? Yeah. What
- 14:41Speaker 1: is your take on that? Man? Because I do feel
- 14:43Speaker 1: like we see it now right, Like there's hell of
- 14:45Speaker 1: shit that's still going on in the world, but it's
- 14:48Speaker 1: not as trendy it was because it's not as trendy
- 14:52Speaker 1: for sure. You'll see like a lot of artists like that,
- 14:54Speaker 1: like you were like, oh, a lot of people for
- 14:56Speaker 1: that matter, Like like like, what is your thought on that? Like,
- 15:00Speaker 1: you know, because as somebody who like really sacrificed their freedom, yeah,
- 15:03Speaker 1: to you know, push against injustice. You know, does it
- 15:07Speaker 1: kind of make you feel a certain type of way
- 15:09Speaker 1: when you when you kind of notice it's like there's
- 15:10Speaker 1: a lot of bullshit going on too. You know, at
- 15:12Speaker 1: first I did, because again, this is something I've been
- 15:15Speaker 1: doing since I was like a kid, and you know,
- 15:17Speaker 1: I'm far from an activist. I don't have all the answers.
- 15:19Speaker 1: I'm not perfect, but I was going to you know,
- 15:24Speaker 1: Filando Castill protests as a kid Mike Brown and as
- 15:29Speaker 1: a teenager on my own free will. And the only
- 15:32Speaker 1: difference now is actually have a platform. And I actually
- 15:36Speaker 1: got a felony from getting arrested that day, Like I
- 15:39Speaker 1: just got that removed, Like off my I couldn't even
- 15:41Speaker 1: like travel overseas or anything because I had a felony. Yeah, yeah,
- 15:45Speaker 1: I couldn't. And so I just got to remove, thank God.
- 15:48Speaker 1: And so I say all that to say, at first,
- 15:51Speaker 1: I used to get mad because I see a lot
- 15:53Speaker 1: of people just doing it because it's trendy and you know.
- 15:56Speaker 1: But I was like, you know, especially artists. You know
- 15:59Speaker 1: what the term that I use for it was. I
- 16:06Speaker 1: forgot the term I had for it, but I can't
- 16:07Speaker 1: remember off the top of the head. But I can't
- 16:11Speaker 1: really I forgot the term. I can't remember off AnyWho.
- 16:14Speaker 1: But at first I used to get real mad at like,
- 16:17Speaker 1: you know, all the fake actors, activism, the fake wokeness whatever,
- 16:20Speaker 1: especially from entertainers and things that nature, because I know
- 16:23Speaker 1: they're doing it for their own internal benefits so that
- 16:25Speaker 1: people can be like, oh, yeah, you're a real one,
- 16:27Speaker 1: you really. But then I thought about it, even if
- 16:29Speaker 1: they intentions aren't pure and coming from a real and
- 16:33Speaker 1: pure place, at least they are getting the message out
- 16:36Speaker 1: there the people that need to see it to that.
- 16:39Speaker 1: That's it. Even if you know, like even if you're
- 16:41Speaker 1: the biggest person on the planet and you don't really
- 16:44Speaker 1: believe in the cause and you're just doing it from
- 16:46Speaker 1: an impure place, well, at least you're you're showcasing the
- 16:52Speaker 1: problems that we got going on in the world in
- 16:54Speaker 1: general to your platform to where people may be educated
- 16:57Speaker 1: on it want to do something about it. So I
- 16:59Speaker 1: don't get add at it, honestly no more. I used to.
- 17:01Speaker 1: And you know, it's a James Baldwin quote. To be
- 17:04Speaker 1: black in America and just somewhat aware of what's going
- 17:09Speaker 1: on is to be enraged all the time. And I
- 17:14Speaker 1: try to stay aware of everything, but I try not
- 17:17Speaker 1: to let everything get me super enraged, if that makes sense.
- 17:20Speaker 1: If you really, like, if you really pay attention to everything,
- 17:23Speaker 1: that you're going to be mad all the time. It's
- 17:25Speaker 1: gonna penetrate your peace, No, it is for sure, and
- 17:27Speaker 1: it does. Like it's hard, especially it's again survivors remorse,
- 17:32Speaker 1: as in even you know, with just my immediate circle,
- 17:35Speaker 1: but just with the whole community as a whole. You know,
- 17:39Speaker 1: you want to do everything and give as much as
- 17:42Speaker 1: you can possibly to everybody, but it may not even
- 17:45Speaker 1: be possible. You know. On the project you talk a
- 17:49Speaker 1: bit about like signing like young, and you know, I
- 17:52Speaker 1: feel like you're one of the more smarter young artists
- 17:55Speaker 1: we have as far as I feel like you're very
- 17:58Speaker 1: self aware. Yeah, started on label high level. What you
- 18:01Speaker 1: got on your shirt right there. Appreciate you. I gotta
- 18:03Speaker 1: get you some gears. Well, you know, when you're a
- 18:06Speaker 1: kid like you, who I mean, when did you sign
- 18:09Speaker 1: officially our eighteen seventeen? I believe so like nineteen. I'm
- 18:15Speaker 1: assuming that, like you know, you probably have learned a
- 18:19Speaker 1: lot since then, for sure our business, maybe about your
- 18:22Speaker 1: own contract, and I'm sure like with your own label,
- 18:25Speaker 1: Like what are the things that you're applying to, like
- 18:28Speaker 1: being a CEO, having a label, having an imprint that
- 18:31Speaker 1: you've learned from your own path to you know, being
- 18:35Speaker 1: on a major label as a as a young unproven artist.
- 18:38Speaker 1: Now for sure, just freedom, creative freedom obviously it goes
- 18:42Speaker 1: without saying, right, allow our artists to control their own destiny,
- 18:47Speaker 1: you know, and given whatever knowledge we may have or
- 18:53Speaker 1: not that we may have that me and the team
- 18:55Speaker 1: have through our you know, years of experience to the industry,
- 18:58Speaker 1: because like, I'm not ever going to say here and
- 19:00Speaker 1: pretend like I got all the answers and I know everything,
- 19:02Speaker 1: but I will give the information and knowledge that I
- 19:05Speaker 1: have and utilize even more than that, the resources, the relationships,
- 19:09Speaker 1: the roller decks that we've been able to build through
- 19:11Speaker 1: operating at the level we've been operating that and used
- 19:14Speaker 1: that to build artists. We have our own team of
- 19:18Speaker 1: in house creatives, in house videoographers, photographers, creative directors, management,
- 19:25Speaker 1: in house A and r's just and everything we want
- 19:28Speaker 1: to utilize just to build you know, not just artists, producers,
- 19:31Speaker 1: creatives in any multifascets. Yeah, do you have a Have
- 19:35Speaker 1: you signed your first artist yet? Uh? No, we haven't. No,
- 19:38Speaker 1: no noes are actively looking. Man, I'm looking like crazy,
- 19:42Speaker 1: like I can't wait to go on the road for
- 19:44Speaker 1: people to come up to me and wrap and pitch
- 19:47Speaker 1: that stuff because I don't want to. It was a
- 19:48Speaker 1: couple of artists that I was like very close to signing,
- 19:51Speaker 1: but I was kind of getting anxious, if you will,
- 19:55Speaker 1: I just wanted to sign somebody just to sign somebody,
- 19:58Speaker 1: but it would be a disservice to them. Just breathe,
- 20:00Speaker 1: take your time. It's no rush, it's no rush. The
- 20:03Speaker 1: right person will come to you. Yeah. It's always works
- 20:05Speaker 1: out that way. It always works out that way. One
- 20:07Speaker 1: hundred you you're one of the few guys in your
- 20:12Speaker 1: generation that's got two songs with Eminem. Yeah, shout out
- 20:17Speaker 1: to Eminem killed the remix on the album Thank You
- 20:20Speaker 1: killed his remix. Yeah. Either way, I'd like to point
- 20:22Speaker 1: out your manager is a crazy person. He tried to
- 20:24Speaker 1: tell me Eminem is one of the biggest club artists
- 20:26Speaker 1: of all time. Club artists, he said, he said, club Ace,
- 20:30Speaker 1: your man's burnt out. He's right in there. Yea burn
- 20:32Speaker 1: that's burn the clubs you be going to, Yeah, that's crazy.
- 20:36Speaker 1: That's not shout out to Eminem, you know. Yeah, yeah,
- 20:39Speaker 1: he he does stadiums, you know, and you're not listening
- 20:42Speaker 1: to the club I say off to say, well that
- 20:44Speaker 1: a con record, Yeah, that one that I mean, Yeah, yeah,
- 20:48Speaker 1: the Nate Doug Shake. But these are also like still
- 20:51Speaker 1: getting played now. But like you know in like you know,
- 20:55Speaker 1: bars and ship. But yeah, yeah, for sure, another story.
- 20:58Speaker 1: Nice little slight to ace. Yeah, yeah, that's he burned.
- 21:01Speaker 1: But eminem As obviously put his arm around you. Man,
- 21:05Speaker 1: he's obviously a fan of what you're doing, Like talk
- 21:07Speaker 1: about your guys' relationship and has he given you any
- 21:10Speaker 1: advice or Yeah. So right before I did the Killer
- 21:14Speaker 1: remixed for him and we had like an hour and
- 21:16Speaker 1: a half conversation about just life, about music, hip hop,
- 21:20Speaker 1: all different types of things, and you know, just he's
- 21:25Speaker 1: always been showing me genuine love and support very early on.
- 21:28Speaker 1: And you know, I appreciate all love and public support
- 21:31Speaker 1: I get because it's not like, you know, I'm signed
- 21:34Speaker 1: to him, you know, so he doesn't have to do that.
- 21:36Speaker 1: I don't ever feel entitled for anybody to show me
- 21:38Speaker 1: any love. So whatever genuine love and support I get
- 21:41Speaker 1: publicly from any from fellow peers, fellow artists, DJ's such
- 21:46Speaker 1: as yourself and your platform as well, whatever love I get,
- 21:50Speaker 1: I really appreciate that. And I say that to say
- 21:52Speaker 1: he was just showing me a lot of love publicly,
- 21:55Speaker 1: and we had a dope conversation and he was just like, man,
- 21:58Speaker 1: we just got to get some work in whatever I
- 21:59Speaker 1: seen you something, and yeah, we gotta get something in
- 22:02Speaker 1: and I'm like beat and so we probably had that
- 22:05Speaker 1: convo like June twenty twenty wow. And I didn't send
- 22:09Speaker 1: him the record for him to get on until like
- 22:11Speaker 1: February twenty twenty one, and because I was just like
- 22:15Speaker 1: I was trying to find a song for him. But
- 22:16Speaker 1: I was like, Yo, this is eminem bro. It's been
- 22:19Speaker 1: like ten months since like he told me he got
- 22:21Speaker 1: me with a record. I'm like, let me just fucking
- 22:23Speaker 1: get this shit, you know, like and no waste that opportunity.
- 22:28Speaker 1: And so I knew Parables was the one automatically because
- 22:30Speaker 1: his vocal tone fits that's slim shady all day. His
- 22:33Speaker 1: vocal tone fits that perfectly, and he has a dope thing. Honestly,
- 22:38Speaker 1: So were you intimidated to get on that remix? Like
- 22:41Speaker 1: did you like like did you did you write harder?
- 22:43Speaker 1: Does that make sense? Like? Nah? Nah? Honestly, m M
- 22:48Speaker 1: he Oh you know what I did? I did my
- 22:51Speaker 1: first verse for Killer Remix, right, I sent it over
- 22:54Speaker 1: to him am and I did it and it was
- 22:56Speaker 1: more on some like three stacks he forty type of
- 23:00Speaker 1: and then him called, he was like, y'all, I wanted
- 23:02Speaker 1: you to be like a little more like lyrical like
- 23:05Speaker 1: on some rap rap shit on it, and I'm like,
- 23:07Speaker 1: all right, cool, like whatever. So I he had me
- 23:10Speaker 1: like redo my verse on some more rap because at
- 23:12Speaker 1: first I just wanted to because you know, that song
- 23:14Speaker 1: is more like a rap rap rapord. It's more of
- 23:17Speaker 1: like a vibe sort of thing, and so that's why
- 23:19Speaker 1: I gave that. He was like, I want you to
- 23:21Speaker 1: you know, like attack it. You know. So I'm like,
- 23:23Speaker 1: all right, cool, let's try that. If I'm goin ask
- 23:25Speaker 1: you to redo your verse, redo your verse for sure,
- 23:27Speaker 1: one hundred man, if anybody you know on they song,
- 23:31Speaker 1: I haven't. I haven't ever been asked that before, but
- 23:34Speaker 1: if anybody asked me to redo it, because I asked
- 23:37Speaker 1: people to redo their verses all the time for my
- 23:39Speaker 1: song for my album. Not all the time, but I
- 23:42Speaker 1: will in a heartbeat anyone on this album that you said, hey,
- 23:45Speaker 1: can you do something different? No, actually everybody was one
- 23:49Speaker 1: and done with this, but I've done it before, like like, okay,
- 23:53Speaker 1: I like this one because I just always want to
- 23:57Speaker 1: paint the best picture. Whenever you add an artist to
- 23:59Speaker 1: your song, where you get added to another artist song,
- 24:02Speaker 1: they already got the camvus it's like what color palette
- 24:04Speaker 1: you want to add to this, you know, and vice versa.
- 24:07Speaker 1: Do you feel the burden of like being like the
- 24:11Speaker 1: young Like I feel like when you came out and
- 24:14Speaker 1: that slim shady freestyle came out, and yeah, I feel
- 24:18Speaker 1: like you were like a much needed breath of fresh
- 24:20Speaker 1: air in the climate that was twenty eighteen, twenty nineteen,
- 24:25Speaker 1: because when was that? I was a twenty nineteen eighteen
- 24:27Speaker 1: twenty eighteen. So I feel like you kind of like
- 24:30Speaker 1: infused like some fresh air that was needed in a
- 24:32Speaker 1: real in my opinion, one of the worst fucking errors
- 24:35Speaker 1: of music was like twenty seventeen, twenty eighteen. Yeah, for sure.
- 24:38Speaker 1: But do you feel the burden of being like the
- 24:41Speaker 1: chosen One, the golden Child? If you will, because I
- 24:43Speaker 1: feel like that's kind of like what I think A
- 24:46Speaker 1: lot of people look at you like that, like you're
- 24:49Speaker 1: from a younger, younger generation, one of the only people
- 24:52Speaker 1: who are really pushing like bars and pushing like you know,
- 24:55Speaker 1: I think a lot of just quality and real you
- 24:58Speaker 1: know what I mean? Do you feel that not really?
- 25:00Speaker 1: To be honest, I always just wanted to be I
- 25:02Speaker 1: just want to be me, like honestly, And it's not
- 25:05Speaker 1: like I appreciate whatever, but are you aware that people
- 25:08Speaker 1: look at you that way? I try not to think
- 25:10Speaker 1: about it too much, you know, because I don't want
- 25:13Speaker 1: to go in the studio with that approach, like, oh,
- 25:15Speaker 1: I got to be the save you save this s
- 25:18Speaker 1: to keep this ship. They're like, Nah, that's not it.
- 25:21Speaker 1: I just go in and create music. I just want
- 25:23Speaker 1: to make good music, man like at a high level,
- 25:26Speaker 1: and I value good music and good songs over just
- 25:29Speaker 1: like trying to bar bar bar bar bar rap rap rap.
- 25:33Speaker 1: You know, we always gonna I love this hip hop show,
- 25:35Speaker 1: we always gonna get the raps off. But I'm just
- 25:37Speaker 1: trying to make good music. And I say that to
- 25:40Speaker 1: say I have my own expectations. I try not to
- 25:43Speaker 1: live into or fit into anybody else's expectations because that's
- 25:46Speaker 1: not what's going to make me happy. What's gonna make
- 25:48Speaker 1: me happy is being the best person, the best artist
- 25:51Speaker 1: that I can be. What was the bigger deal for
- 25:54Speaker 1: you a Wayne feature or an m feature? Hmm, because
- 25:57Speaker 1: they're both goats for sure. I don't know. They both
- 26:01Speaker 1: were like huge for me at the time, especially when
- 26:03Speaker 1: I did the Wayne video, Like a lot of times. Man,
- 26:06Speaker 1: My my new word for this year, past six months
- 26:09Speaker 1: is just gratitude, just living in the moment more and
- 26:11Speaker 1: just infinite gratitude. Because before it would just be like
- 26:15Speaker 1: I do some crazy dope shit. I'll be like, Okay,
- 26:17Speaker 1: what's next, Let's keep it going tunnel vision. Sometimes you
- 26:19Speaker 1: get wrapped up in like just the work that you
- 26:22Speaker 1: don't even realize what you're doing. Yeah. I always tell
- 26:25Speaker 1: people sometimes you got to stop and say, Man, if
- 26:28Speaker 1: you talk to yourself five years ago, he'll be like like,
- 26:31Speaker 1: what the fuck. Nah. For sure, it's a balance because
- 26:35Speaker 1: you can't take that and get complacent and smell your
- 26:38Speaker 1: own hot horse too much, like man, I'm shit, I'm not,
- 26:41Speaker 1: you know, but you got to appreciate it absolutely. And
- 26:44Speaker 1: so one of those moments was I was at the
- 26:46Speaker 1: the Wayne video shooting. We were shooting sinister shout out,
- 26:50Speaker 1: shout out, hit boyfriend the video goat right now, yah yeah, yeah,
- 26:53Speaker 1: he been doing that joint boy, And so I'm looking
- 26:56Speaker 1: at the video and I'm like, oh, wow, Like that's Wayne,
- 27:02Speaker 1: that's Wayne, bro. That's that was the biggest thing for
- 27:05Speaker 1: this is weezy. This is arguably you can argue the
- 27:07Speaker 1: best rapper whatever, like his his that eight run like
- 27:12Speaker 1: Carter three, no ceilings. I mean we can go with
- 27:15Speaker 1: card two. We can go on for days about this
- 27:17Speaker 1: man catalog and his impact and influences. He got too
- 27:21Speaker 1: many sons, Yo, stop of the interview. Got to tell
- 27:25Speaker 1: you about our good folks at odd Socks. Man. Listen,
- 27:27Speaker 1: Go to odd socksofficial dot com. Use the promo code
- 27:30Speaker 1: twenty percent off. Save twenty percent off some of the

- 27:35Speaker 1: shout out to kool Aid. You know what I'm saying,
- 27:37Speaker 1: Shout out a SpongeBob. Plus, they got the odd Socks basics.
- 27:43Speaker 1: These are my boys right here. I love these right here.
- 27:45Speaker 1: You get the plain black, the plain white, very comfortable,

- 27:50Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. Plus underwear, y'all cheese it draws.
- 27:55Speaker 1: Come on, what are we doing. Go to odd socksofficial
- 27:57Speaker 1: dot com, use the promo code Bootleg and save twenty

- 28:06Speaker 1: Throw all the methicas in the trash, all that PSD shit,
- 28:09Speaker 1: all that shit is all listen, man, put the odd
- 28:12Speaker 1: socks on your ass cheeks and think me later. Was
- 28:15Speaker 1: there somebody who you wanted to get on the album
- 28:18Speaker 1: that maybe just the schedules, didn't a line or you
- 28:21Speaker 1: couldn't get it turned in on time. Yeah, that was
- 28:23Speaker 1: really close to happening. Not really, man, Everybody who I
- 28:27Speaker 1: wanted on the album is ended up on there. You know,
- 28:30Speaker 1: because as soon as I make us, even like chronicles,
- 28:33Speaker 1: as soon as I make a song, I'll be like
- 28:35Speaker 1: because most of the time I try not to put
- 28:37Speaker 1: features because it's like, when it's features, you gotta if
- 28:41Speaker 1: you want to shoot a video, you gotta work around
- 28:43Speaker 1: everybody's schedule things of that nation multiple yeah, exactly, and so,
- 28:49Speaker 1: but every song that has a feature, as soon as
- 28:51Speaker 1: I made that song, I was like, Okay, I'm gonna
- 28:52Speaker 1: get this person on it. As soon as I made today,
- 28:54Speaker 1: I'm like, I'm getting gunned on this joint. And these
- 28:57Speaker 1: just all happen to be people I got genuine relationship
- 29:00Speaker 1: ships with. So it's not like I'm paying for any feature.
- 29:02Speaker 1: By the way, it's just straight swaps you know, all
- 29:05Speaker 1: of the features on the album, you didn't have to
- 29:06Speaker 1: pay for it, didn't have to pay it down for
- 29:08Speaker 1: straight swaps respect. So it's like, hey, Lna, I got
- 29:11Speaker 1: you when you need a feature, Yeah for sure. It's
- 29:14Speaker 1: love because I feel like if it's just a money
- 29:17Speaker 1: play for somebody, like I don't even charge anybody for features. Bro,
- 29:21Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, Like, if you're doing a feature,
- 29:23Speaker 1: its because you're genuinely fuck with the artists. Yeah for sure.
- 29:26Speaker 1: And so I say all that to say that, and
- 29:30Speaker 1: these are people I'm actually like close with and like
- 29:33Speaker 1: have like genuine relationships with for the most part, and
- 29:36Speaker 1: so like Gunn, as soon as I made Today, I'm like, Gunna,
- 29:40Speaker 1: this is the one we made that join in Australia.
- 29:41Speaker 1: As soon as I made Chronicles, I don't know why,
- 29:44Speaker 1: I was like I got to get her and Dirk
- 29:45Speaker 1: on this. You know, those are both people I'm cool with,
- 29:49Speaker 1: like mad cool with every single song. You know, With
- 29:52Speaker 1: Stevie Wonder, I ended up cooking with him for like
- 29:54Speaker 1: a week before I got him to do Harmonica. Yeah.
- 29:57Speaker 1: When you say you were cooking with Stevie Wonder for
- 30:00Speaker 1: a week, Yeah, that's crazy. So you're in this like
- 30:03Speaker 1: I'm in the studio with him in person, hanging out
- 30:05Speaker 1: with Stevie, hanging out with getting the gym, studio, getting
- 30:08Speaker 1: the gym, the real gems, the real knowledge. They don't
- 30:11Speaker 1: make them like him anymow. This is Michael. His stories
- 30:13Speaker 1: that he got about like your icon's icon, you know,
- 30:18Speaker 1: like it's just the most unimaginable thing man Like for
- 30:23Speaker 1: he talks about like Obama pulling up on him at
- 30:26Speaker 1: the studio like before he was president. You know, like
- 30:30Speaker 1: his story is just different. Bro, No, he's talking about
- 30:32Speaker 1: Little Mike, you know, like, yeah, I remember one time
- 30:35Speaker 1: I was in there with Bro, what what was the
- 30:38Speaker 1: Little Mike's story? It wasn't. He just brings up like
- 30:41Speaker 1: small like things like like he's Michael Jackson's big homie.
- 30:45Speaker 1: That's so crazy. You gotta think that this is Michael
- 30:48Speaker 1: Jackson's big homie and now he's your big homie. Good company?
- 30:53Speaker 1: Hergo connection? Was he like just a fan of yours?
- 30:56Speaker 1: Like like that's a you know what's crazy because I've
- 30:57Speaker 1: seen Stevie Wonder pop out before, I want to say,
- 31:02Speaker 1: at a Anderson Pact show, Oh do, but he's out
- 31:06Speaker 1: like you I've seen Stevie Wonder three or four times
- 31:08Speaker 1: like a random ship, and I'd just be like, yeah,
- 31:10Speaker 1: he lived life, brother, he's living He lived a good life.
- 31:13Speaker 1: But he just was up on like like how did
- 31:15Speaker 1: that happen? Like so somebody from his team reached out
- 31:19Speaker 1: to somebody on my team to Dallas, I believe, shout
- 31:22Speaker 1: out Dallas and they was like, yo, like Stevie want
- 31:25Speaker 1: to like lock in with Corda And I was like,
- 31:28Speaker 1: what Dondal Dundale. So I pulled up on him and
- 31:31Speaker 1: we just started out. He had me work on the
- 31:33Speaker 1: record for his and Blase Bla, so we're working on
- 31:39Speaker 1: this can't put in the hands of Faith. We're working
- 31:41Speaker 1: on his record, and like day two or three, he's like, Yo,
- 31:45Speaker 1: if you want me something on your album, then I
- 31:49Speaker 1: got you. And I'm like I had my laptop and
- 31:51Speaker 1: my hard drive with me like say less, I was like, yo,
- 31:53Speaker 1: can I get you to play harmonica on this? Because
- 31:56Speaker 1: I like using people's like almost if you know Steve,
- 32:00Speaker 1: you want to you know him playing harmonica isn't a
- 32:02Speaker 1: hidden talent, but to like the average just music person,
- 32:04Speaker 1: they may not know him playing harmonica. Same with like
- 32:08Speaker 1: j Cole gave him to produce on him to make
- 32:10Speaker 1: a beat. You know, like I like using people's hitting
- 32:13Speaker 1: talents and and and highlighting him and so I say
- 32:16Speaker 1: that to say, yeah, just locking in with him, like
- 32:18Speaker 1: it's crazy, Like he just matter of fact he called
- 32:20Speaker 1: me to day the album drop. He facetimed me and yeah,
- 32:24Speaker 1: I'm not even trying to speak in my truth. May
- 32:27Speaker 1: speaking my truth. It's an interesting way for Stevie Wonder
- 32:29Speaker 1: to call somebody his FaceTime. He uses it pretty adept.
- 32:32Speaker 1: I didn't believe he was blind when I first met him.
- 32:34Speaker 1: I feel like when you he's been as blind as
- 32:37Speaker 1: he's been, like as long he's just been for sure,
- 32:39Speaker 1: he knows how to move. Yeah, for sure, he's definitely
- 32:42Speaker 1: blind by the way, but he's like super It's not
- 32:47Speaker 1: a crutch for him. It's just like Daredevil kind of
- 32:49Speaker 1: like on Netflix. You're like, this guy is not blind, Like, yeah, no,
- 32:53Speaker 1: he's just he's been blind for he's seventy years. I
- 32:56Speaker 1: don't know when he went blind, but he's been blind
- 32:58Speaker 1: for a long time. It probably also helps that he
- 33:00Speaker 1: was once not blind. And he's a rich blond man
- 33:02Speaker 1: rich blind like super rich. If you're gonna be blind.
- 33:05Speaker 1: You gotta be rich blind. So it's like it's so
- 33:08Speaker 1: much probably like in mind you this is just like
- 33:11Speaker 1: me inferring, me guessing. It's probably like so much technology
- 33:15Speaker 1: he has like access to to make him being blind
- 33:17Speaker 1: like super easy because he's just like filthy rich, you know,
- 33:21Speaker 1: so for real. So shout out to Stevie Wooder. You
- 33:25Speaker 1: I saw you allude that you you have an unreleased
- 33:27Speaker 1: Juice WRLD song. Yeah I do, yeah you obviously I
- 33:32Speaker 1: remember when that tour happened. Yeah, it was like super
- 33:35Speaker 1: early on, super early on. I feel like you didn't
- 33:37Speaker 1: even I don't even know if the WHITEBN mixtape was
- 33:39Speaker 1: out yet. No it wasn't. It sure wasn't. And it's
- 33:42Speaker 1: like all I had was three songs, all short, and
- 33:47Speaker 1: two of them was damn freestyles, you know yeah, and
- 33:51Speaker 1: that whole set was unreleased. But man, that was like
- 33:53Speaker 1: it's some real historical ship because just looking just at
- 33:57Speaker 1: my what I've done or just that's something all gonna
- 34:00Speaker 1: be able to tell my kids, Like mam, my first
- 34:01Speaker 1: time ever tour was on I was Torn with Juice
- 34:03Speaker 1: World and Juice This is his first tour too, So
- 34:05Speaker 1: this is both of all first time first, like being
- 34:09Speaker 1: that motherfucker like that was the first tour ever. Yeah,
- 34:12Speaker 1: it happened fast for him for sure. That was first
- 34:14Speaker 1: tour ever. So it was clever on that tour. No,
- 34:16Speaker 1: he wasn't clever. It was me Juice World and Little Mosey. Wow.
- 34:21Speaker 1: And I'll just be looking back even at like the
- 34:23Speaker 1: Marquis like Juice World cord under it, you know what
- 34:27Speaker 1: I'm saying. And so I say that to say, yeah,
- 34:32Speaker 1: we do. We definitely got to unreleased in a song
- 34:34Speaker 1: that you are interested in even releasing or in the
- 34:37Speaker 1: future probably you know. I never wanted like when he
- 34:40Speaker 1: came out. It wasn't like, man, I gotta put this
- 34:42Speaker 1: funny enough. Man. Our last text between each other was
- 34:46Speaker 1: like about the song, you know. And I say all
- 34:50Speaker 1: that to say that, you know, when he passed, it
- 34:52Speaker 1: wasn't like it's not something I want to capitalize on
- 34:55Speaker 1: and drop this record because I know it's going to
- 34:57Speaker 1: be it's gonna go up. Yeah. Yeah, one is a
- 35:01Speaker 1: great song, by the way. Two it's on some rap ship.
- 35:06Speaker 1: But I never wanted to like capitalize off of friend's death.
- 35:10Speaker 1: So if it never comes out, like, I'm cool with that.
- 35:13Speaker 1: He's yeah, he's rapping, like trying to tell people like
- 35:17Speaker 1: Juice WRLD was like one of the nicest still ill
- 35:20Speaker 1: like crazy. He chose to be like a fucking dude
- 35:23Speaker 1: the super hits like Gollly like Male off the Dome
- 35:28Speaker 1: we be Like. I remember when he came in freestyle
- 35:30Speaker 1: for me in head, I was just like floored. I
- 35:33Speaker 1: was like Jesus Christ, like this guy's you gotta tell
- 35:36Speaker 1: him to stop. He's a savant. You gotta tell him
- 35:38Speaker 1: to stop because you gonna keep going. But like I said,
- 35:41Speaker 1: it's just something that's more so like for my memories
- 35:44Speaker 1: and for the archives, and you know, God willing if
- 35:47Speaker 1: you know obviously when when it comes to postmis releasing
- 35:52Speaker 1: music whenever that time comes from. So why did you
- 35:55Speaker 1: said that that word right? Because I don't know how
- 35:57Speaker 1: to say it. Every time I read it, I don't
- 35:58Speaker 1: know if I said it coactly postmiss. Yeah, I don't
- 36:01Speaker 1: know how to. I honestly might have mispronounced it. Who knows. Yeah,
- 36:04Speaker 1: the comments let us we'll find out later. But yeah,
- 36:06Speaker 1: it's never something I want to be like I'm gonna
- 36:08Speaker 1: just release this. It might come out years from now,
- 36:10Speaker 1: I might not ever come out. You know, I'm just
- 36:12Speaker 1: always it's something that's the sacred to me, more than
- 36:15Speaker 1: anything more than JOHNA just you know, capitalize off of friends.
- 36:19Speaker 1: You are a part of like a generation of artists
- 36:21Speaker 1: where your peers are dying, are dying for sure at
- 36:26Speaker 1: like a rate that we've never seen in hip hop?
- 36:28Speaker 1: Is this more than like that ninety six ninety eight era? Right? Yeah,
- 36:32Speaker 1: for sure, it's not even close. Yeah, it's not even close. No,
- 36:35Speaker 1: for sure, Like does that like you know, I mean
- 36:38Speaker 1: I always tell like I have some close friends that
- 36:41Speaker 1: I you know, I'll just be like, yo, you gotta
- 36:43Speaker 1: chill cause like I don't want to wake up one
- 36:45Speaker 1: day and like you're out of town and you get
- 36:47Speaker 1: shot or something like, yeah, it's fucked up. It's a
- 36:50Speaker 1: wild time. Like and I feel like you're like I,
- 36:53Speaker 1: like I said, like you're kind of one of the
- 36:55Speaker 1: bright lights in our culture where it's like you're not
- 37:00Speaker 1: promoting certain things, You're you're not in the lot of bullshit,
- 37:05Speaker 1: you're not stirring up shit on the internet, you're not
- 37:07Speaker 1: talking about drug use shit like that. But like, like
- 37:11Speaker 1: is it like you know, these are your peers, these
- 37:14Speaker 1: are people you know, these are people who you've seen
- 37:16Speaker 1: at parties, Like yeah, for sure. It's sad because nobody
- 37:20Speaker 1: can relate to you like other artists can. We all
- 37:23Speaker 1: are our peers, like you said, we all appears and
- 37:27Speaker 1: coworkers in this ecosystem of music, and so to see
- 37:31Speaker 1: people that you're on like early shows we've done early towards,
- 37:36Speaker 1: whether you've seen them at festivals or you know, Juice
- 37:39Speaker 1: World was the only one I was like really like
- 37:42Speaker 1: genuine close with in a real real way, like really
- 37:46Speaker 1: my like one of my closest friends. But just seeing
- 37:49Speaker 1: you know, like the Doph situation that broke my heart
- 37:53Speaker 1: and how many other set I can't even think of
- 37:56Speaker 1: everybody at the top of my head, you know, crazy,
- 37:58Speaker 1: it's crazy. Yeah, It's like it feels like once every
- 38:02Speaker 1: like sixty days, it's like, what the fuck, what is happening?
- 38:05Speaker 1: It's a wild time, man, that's ridiculous. So there is
- 38:08Speaker 1: going to be a Deluxe possibly possibly, I don't know
- 38:11Speaker 1: everybody the Deluxe these days. Yeah, yeah, you know what's funny,
- 38:14Speaker 1: I don't know. I was going to do a Lost
- 38:16Speaker 1: Boy Deluxe like way way like when it first dropped
- 38:19Speaker 1: before everybody, Well, I can't even say, because people have
- 38:21Speaker 1: been doing deluxes for thirty five years. But I think
- 38:24Speaker 1: UZI kind of kicked off this new deluxe. Yeah, yeah,
- 38:26Speaker 1: for sure, it definitely did one hundred percent. And I
- 38:30Speaker 1: don't know, man, I kind of just like letting the
- 38:32Speaker 1: idea and the project just be an idea and what
- 38:35Speaker 1: it is as a complete body of work and just
- 38:37Speaker 1: going into something new. But I'm not sure, honestly, I
- 38:40Speaker 1: don't know. You've had a lot of big moments in
- 38:44Speaker 1: your career. You've been on records with the big people,
- 38:46Speaker 1: You've performed all the awards. I mean, you've had some
- 38:49Speaker 1: huge moments. What was the one moment that you can
- 38:52Speaker 1: reflect on that you felt either the most nervous or
- 38:54Speaker 1: where you really had to like kind of pinch yourself like, shit,
- 38:57Speaker 1: this is actually about to happen, or this is happening.
- 38:59Speaker 1: You know what? Man? It was probably the day I
- 39:01Speaker 1: got the Best Rap Album Grammy nomination, like Dad was
- 39:06Speaker 1: in and I can't wait to win them things in
- 39:08Speaker 1: the future, Like you know, nominations are great infinite gratitude,
- 39:11Speaker 1: but I'm gonna win them things. And were you nominated
- 39:15Speaker 1: alongside it was me? Tyler the Creator? Yeah, ego won it. Yep,
- 39:21Speaker 1: I wasn't. I think he should have won Album of
- 39:23Speaker 1: a Year, like you know, I'm not. I wasn't on
- 39:26Speaker 1: what he said after those awards is true, like yeah,
- 39:30Speaker 1: they should. They kind of just bunched them in with
- 39:32Speaker 1: hip hop. I mean, yeah, for sure, it wasn't a
- 39:34Speaker 1: rap album. It was a great album by the way, amazing,
- 39:37Speaker 1: amazing album. You should have won Album of a Year,
- 39:39Speaker 1: like for sure. And but I was happy to see
- 39:41Speaker 1: him win because he earned it. He's been in the
- 39:43Speaker 1: game for a minute. It was his time, you know.
- 39:47Speaker 1: And I was just like the wall, I just gotta
- 39:49Speaker 1: pay my dues, bro, Like he doesn't pay his dues.
- 39:51Speaker 1: He didn't put out great albums that didn't get recognized,
- 39:53Speaker 1: so it was just his time. But I think he
- 39:55Speaker 1: should have won at the highest level, which is Album
- 39:57Speaker 1: of a Year. I agree. And so yeah, like I
- 40:03Speaker 1: sailed that to say, probably getting nominated for Best Rap
- 40:05Speaker 1: Album at that I just remember, that's the most like
- 40:08Speaker 1: I lived in the moment. I was already on vacation
- 40:11Speaker 1: at the time. I was in Turks and Kko's and
- 40:13Speaker 1: then I watched like them announcing the Grammy nominations, and
- 40:18Speaker 1: I remember because they said my name last because they
- 40:21Speaker 1: say it in alphabetical order, so I heard the first
- 40:23Speaker 1: four names and then I ain't hit my name and
- 40:26Speaker 1: yeah exactly, and so Yan I was like because I thought,
- 40:30Speaker 1: I was like, I thought I wouldn't go because I
- 40:32Speaker 1: just knew I was going to get it for sure.
- 40:33Speaker 1: I knew I was gonna get it. And then when
- 40:36Speaker 1: they said my name, lad my heart sung. When I
- 40:38Speaker 1: think my name didn't get called it and I heard it,
- 40:41Speaker 1: I'm like, let's fucking go. I didn't even care about
- 40:43Speaker 1: the Best Rap Song nomination. I just wanted that album album.
- 40:48Speaker 1: That's what mattered. Bodies of work you want to be.
- 40:52Speaker 1: You know, people get Best Rap Song and nominations all
- 40:55Speaker 1: the time, but best Rap Album that's a big deal
- 40:57Speaker 1: now for sure, especially up against you know, like A
- 41:00Speaker 1: Coler and things of that nature. So I was like
- 41:03Speaker 1: that that was probably the most like I lived in
- 41:06Speaker 1: the moment, saw the moment for me. What were your expectations,
- 41:09Speaker 1: because there's your first week numbers are out right. Yeah,
- 41:12Speaker 1: it's just like a narrative that you know it might
- 41:14Speaker 1: have underperformed. How do you feel about that whole conversation? Man,
- 41:17Speaker 1: it's funny, man, because like, I don't I took the
- 41:21Speaker 1: label off anyway. I don't give a ship to Ralph's Water, right,
- 41:24Speaker 1: all right, that's what you got me drinking keviv. What
- 41:27Speaker 1: if it now fucking with you? Water's water baby? No
- 41:29Speaker 1: pH levels in this. But it's all good. It's all good.
- 41:32Speaker 1: I used to order like seven eleven water from Postmates
- 41:35Speaker 1: just from like just pure laziness of not going AnyWho.
- 41:37Speaker 1: That's a whole different story. But you know, with the
- 41:40Speaker 1: first week things, like, I'm at the the point of
- 41:44Speaker 1: my career to where I'm not worried about no first
- 41:46Speaker 1: week numbers and I know it's fucking oh he's saying
- 41:48Speaker 1: that because of now it's I said this with my
- 41:50Speaker 1: last album. I said it from the very beginning, you know,
- 41:53Speaker 1: like I'm not pressed about no ship like that. You know,
- 41:55Speaker 1: I'm worried about what my tour is going to do
- 41:58Speaker 1: because I'm a torn artist, you know. Oh, so I
- 42:00Speaker 1: make music to perform it. So when if my tour
- 42:03Speaker 1: is sold out off the album, then I know it's
- 42:05Speaker 1: done what it's supposed to do. And again, I waited
- 42:09Speaker 1: two and a half years in between it without like
- 42:12Speaker 1: any touring and not this ain't no excuse or anything.
- 42:14Speaker 1: I'm just saying, like, I make music to tour, So
- 42:17Speaker 1: as long as my tours are sold out and my
- 42:20Speaker 1: merch and people are like loving the music, That's what
- 42:23Speaker 1: I cared the most about. You know? Is it cause
- 42:25Speaker 1: like there is a truth right to artists these days
- 42:30Speaker 1: in major situations for the most part, do you make
- 42:32Speaker 1: your money? I mean we're gonna get to how you
- 42:35Speaker 1: made seven million dollars okay, allegedly, allegedly without dropping a
- 42:39Speaker 1: fucking song, but no, but like in general, you know,
- 42:43Speaker 1: yg was just talking about on he was doing the
- 42:46Speaker 1: Barbershop Talk with Lebron and he was saying how he
- 42:48Speaker 1: hasn't seen a cent off of any of his album
- 42:50Speaker 1: sales this whole time he's been on death Chat. Yeah,
- 42:53Speaker 1: So is it like, is it indeed like you're touring
- 42:57Speaker 1: your merch, your endorsement situation? Yeah, Puma Coulture, Yeah, you're
- 43:01Speaker 1: fucking everywhere. You know what I'm saying, you appreciate it?
- 43:05Speaker 1: Is that really where you're you're getting your bread and
- 43:07Speaker 1: butter financially for sure, unless you were like fully independent
- 43:11Speaker 1: and you own your masters, like you're going to get
- 43:14Speaker 1: most of your majority of your bread from uh, you know,
- 43:18Speaker 1: to out other entities. Do you own your masters? Nope, No,
- 43:23Speaker 1: not yet, not yet. That's what I was kind of
- 43:26Speaker 1: alluding to earlier, because you're when you sign men sign
- 43:29Speaker 1: young like you signed early. Yeah, for sure. So I
- 43:31Speaker 1: feel like you've already kind of leveled up where you
- 43:36Speaker 1: where you are mentally and kind of understood how I
- 43:38Speaker 1: own a percentage of them, but I don't. You own
- 43:40Speaker 1: your masters is like you percent und so the next
- 43:45Speaker 1: go round, that's got to be in the deal, right, Yeah,
- 43:48Speaker 1: for sure. I gotta. Look, I don't want to misquote
- 43:51Speaker 1: you know what my situation is anything, but I gotta
- 43:54Speaker 1: But it's on the way all the way. Would you
- 43:56Speaker 1: with the way the industry is kind of moving and
- 43:59Speaker 1: you're seeing like a lot of artists have real success independently,
- 44:02Speaker 1: would that be ever a route that you would explore
- 44:04Speaker 1: in the future. I don't know, honestly. I really fuck
- 44:07Speaker 1: with Atlantic Records, you know, at this point in time, right,
- 44:12Speaker 1: But I say that to say I really fuck with them, honestly,
- 44:15Speaker 1: Like it's high level under Atlantic. Now it's a whole separate,
- 44:18Speaker 1: instantly separate. Yeah. Yeah, Like I got full control on
- 44:21Speaker 1: my own ship. Like creative control on everything. It's like
- 44:26Speaker 1: they just do they just put it out honestly, you know.
- 44:29Speaker 1: They they're enthusiastic about your ship. Like like I talked
- 44:33Speaker 1: to everybody over there, so everyone's always talking about your ship.
- 44:35Speaker 1: Yeah for sure, And that's why I signed with Atlantic,
- 44:37Speaker 1: because that enthusiasm and that excitement and passion, you know what.
- 44:42Speaker 1: Julie Greenwald, Mike Causer, Dallas, so many other plan Rey,
- 44:47Speaker 1: so many Craig Common, all those people over there there
- 44:50Speaker 1: were like, you know, really enthusiastic and really excited about everything.
- 44:55Speaker 1: And so I say all that to say that I
- 44:58Speaker 1: like why, I'm honestly not even though no like politically
- 45:03Speaker 1: correct shit. It's like if it wasn't, i'd say it. Yeah.
- 45:06Speaker 1: Twenty twenty two, the album is out, Uh fucking you're
- 45:09Speaker 1: doing Coch Yep. The pandemic is still kind of going on. Yep,
- 45:13Speaker 1: we're still in the pandemic. Yeah. No, it's wild, Yeah,
- 45:16Speaker 1: one hundred percent. We just like, all right, it's just
- 45:19Speaker 1: because the for economic reasons that were not shut down. No,
- 45:22Speaker 1: for sure we should be shut down. If we were
- 45:24Speaker 1: still shut down, it might be the end of America
- 45:27Speaker 1: for sure, Like finance for sure. All the way, there'd
- 45:31Speaker 1: be so many people killing themselves and you know it'd
- 45:33Speaker 1: be done. I'd be pissed off personally. Yeah, I feel like, like, god,
- 45:37Speaker 1: damn I toured, Like, yeah, it's crazy. Are you? Are
- 45:41Speaker 1: you going to tour the album? Yeah? Yeah, I got
- 45:42Speaker 1: I tour in two weeks. It starts in two weeks.
- 45:44Speaker 1: Starts in two weeks. Who's opening I'm not sure yet. Honestly,
- 45:48Speaker 1: Oh shit, well, I mean for two weeks away. You
- 45:49Speaker 1: might want to figure that shit out. Absolutely. I was
- 45:51Speaker 1: hoping for high level artist honestly, yeah, exactly, like we
- 45:55Speaker 1: gotta find somebody. Ship ship. Yeah. I saw that Namir
- 46:02Speaker 1: was at the release party. Yeah, I appreciate you for
- 46:06Speaker 1: DJ and that you and zach VIIa. That was a
- 46:08Speaker 1: very random night because I go to the party and
- 46:12Speaker 1: Ace comes to me in a panic and he's like,
- 46:15Speaker 1: I need you to DJ, and I was like, I
- 46:18Speaker 1: don't have my laptop. He was like, get it here,
- 46:21Speaker 1: and I was like, all right, damn, you must really
- 46:24Speaker 1: fuck with a that's my dog. Yeah. So I got
- 46:29Speaker 1: I had, I got a laptop delivered, and my the
- 46:33Speaker 1: laptop that was delivered, Nico Blitz's, was not compatible with
- 46:36Speaker 1: whatever fucking dj. It was a struggle. Well I said
- 46:39Speaker 1: that to say the album release party was an incredible event.
- 46:42Speaker 1: You shout out Dave Chappelle. You had Dave Chappelle do
- 46:46Speaker 1: stand up. Yeah, he hosted, he jammed out. Yeah. There
- 46:50Speaker 1: was a blunt circle backstage. It was him, Steve Herkle, Simba,
- 46:56Speaker 1: somebody else was there. Oh sada baby. Yeah. It was
- 46:59Speaker 1: the most random blunt circle I've ever I was like, Yo,
- 47:03Speaker 1: this is Dave Chappelle, Steve Virkle, Jahill, is it Hill White? Yeah?
- 47:06Speaker 1: I can tell you got later that night too. Man,
- 47:09Speaker 1: the same day my album dropped, Me and Dave went
- 47:11Speaker 1: to go pull up on Kanye and yeah, so after
- 47:15Speaker 1: the album release party, you pulled up on Kanye with Dave.
- 47:17Speaker 1: Yeah yeah. And ab actually ab ab happened to be there.
- 47:21Speaker 1: That's my boy. Shout out a B and y'all got
- 47:23Speaker 1: to this is my first I met Kanye before, but
- 47:26Speaker 1: this is the first time I got to like chop
- 47:27Speaker 1: it up with him on some like you know, on conversation.
- 47:31Speaker 1: Yeah exactly, and like, you know, this is one of
- 47:33Speaker 1: my idols, one of my biggest idols, I said ever
- 47:36Speaker 1: for sure, Like I've said it a dozen times, and
- 47:40Speaker 1: he was like, oh, were you album just dropped now?
- 47:42Speaker 1: He's like, yeah, play it for me, and he was
- 47:45Speaker 1: just dope, man, just to sit play my album that
- 47:47Speaker 1: just came out thirty minutes ago with Kanye and Dave
- 47:50Speaker 1: and just kick it with him, you know what I'm
- 47:52Speaker 1: saying on some some chill shit? What what was? What was?
- 47:55Speaker 1: Did he give you any feedback on the album or
- 47:57Speaker 1: just any any gems at all? I didn't ask for it.
- 47:59Speaker 1: I just feel like Kanye's just when he talks, it's like, man, man,
- 48:03Speaker 1: he's the one. Yay he played like some unreleased music,
- 48:07Speaker 1: like we're just playing track for track, you know, like
- 48:09Speaker 1: unreleased stuff, and man, Yay's the one bro. I got.
- 48:13Speaker 1: I And I was a lot of times when I
- 48:15Speaker 1: meet like people I've idolized I would not be too
- 48:18Speaker 1: cool for school, but like, you know, cause I'm from Maryland. Bro.
- 48:22Speaker 1: We never we used to call it like man, you
- 48:24Speaker 1: on dick, like you dick riding whatever, whatever. And I
- 48:28Speaker 1: never was the type like I meet one of some
- 48:30Speaker 1: of the biggest people you can think of. I never
- 48:32Speaker 1: asked for a pick. I never like it just be
- 48:34Speaker 1: just chopping up on some human and human shit. But
- 48:39Speaker 1: one of my biggest regrets was when I met Kobe,
- 48:41Speaker 1: I didn't get to tell him like what he meant
- 48:42Speaker 1: to me, like growing up, how much of an idol
- 48:45Speaker 1: he was to me. So when I met Yay, I
- 48:47Speaker 1: just had like in a real way, I tell him like, man, like, Nigga,
- 48:50Speaker 1: you my biggest influence. I say that, I said when
- 48:53Speaker 1: I'm in an interview and they asked I say that.
- 48:54Speaker 1: He's like, yeah, you better tell him, nigga, Like you
- 48:57Speaker 1: know what. I moved to La, took a bus by
- 48:59Speaker 1: myself with thirty year old strangers. Blue le Kevin DJ
- 49:02Speaker 1: had to come to your release party for sure. Did
- 49:05Speaker 1: you get any free merch that night? Remember we're trying
- 49:06Speaker 1: to grab dud. Yeah I did get it. Yeah, good looks. Yeah,
- 49:09Speaker 1: I definitely got it that fire merch by the way,
- 49:12Speaker 1: Hell yeah, of course it's gonna be fire merch. How
- 49:14Speaker 1: did the Dave ship because obviously you and Ve shappardy
- 49:16Speaker 1: from the same region, you know for yeah DMV. Yeah
- 49:18Speaker 1: from the d MV. Like it's not a he sat
- 49:21Speaker 1: on stage that you call him to come and do this. Yeah,
- 49:25Speaker 1: and he came. He came, and you know, he was
- 49:29Speaker 1: like Yo, look, everyone have have their Nobody was allowed
- 49:32Speaker 1: to have their phone out. One's phones was in bags
- 49:34Speaker 1: except mine. Yeah wow, and whoever else that footage? Yeah?
- 49:40Speaker 1: But uh, in general, like it was a very like
- 49:43Speaker 1: he was doing it because he obviously genuinely fucks with
- 49:45Speaker 1: you as a person, as an artist, et cetera. But
- 49:47Speaker 1: how did that relationship Like what are the roots of
- 49:49Speaker 1: you and Dave Chappelle? We what did I first meet Davit?
- 49:54Speaker 1: I can't quite recall honestly when I first met him,
- 49:58Speaker 1: but again, we both from the same area. Whenever I
- 50:03Speaker 1: first I first met him, like we just we birthed
- 50:05Speaker 1: both virgos, excuse me, and like he's one of my idols.
- 50:09Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. I saw you when you're
- 50:11Speaker 1: on stage and the way I feel like that was
- 50:12Speaker 1: one of those moments where you were, like, fucking Dave
- 50:15Speaker 1: Chappelle's next to me on my album release dage. Yeah, Nah,
- 50:18Speaker 1: he's the one, bro, Dave Chappelle is the one. But
- 50:20Speaker 1: like not even like he's It's not too many people
- 50:23Speaker 1: that like unequivocally who you can say they are the
- 50:26Speaker 1: best what they've done or what they do. He is
- 50:29Speaker 1: actually the best at what he does. He's the greatest
- 50:31Speaker 1: comedian of all like alive, you can argue of all time.
- 50:35Speaker 1: I would say he's top three. Yeah, I think it's
- 50:38Speaker 1: like him prior to George Carl But he's the greatest
- 50:41Speaker 1: comedian alive, correct, right, and to me anyway in my opinion.
- 50:45Speaker 1: But maybe I'm a little biased, right, But but even
- 50:48Speaker 1: before he's the greatest. But you know, the Chappelle Show,
- 50:52Speaker 1: even my sense of humor, man, it's like super like
- 50:54Speaker 1: Dave Chappelle influenced. And so we just continue to build.
- 50:59Speaker 1: I would even when I was making this album, I
- 51:00Speaker 1: will go up to Ohio to go see him. It's
- 51:03Speaker 1: because it's like in the middle of nowhere. I just
- 51:06Speaker 1: get timed for peace and quiet to think on things.
- 51:11Speaker 1: Because he's got like a compound. Yeah, yeah, he got
- 51:14Speaker 1: he got a town, he's got a little he got
- 51:16Speaker 1: a town he has Ohio. Did you go to any
- 51:19Speaker 1: of those comedy shows he was doing, Yeah I did, Yeah,
- 51:21Speaker 1: I did. I went to a couple actually, And he's
- 51:24Speaker 1: just always somebody that has shown me love, just been
- 51:26Speaker 1: He's always a phone call away, man. I just call
- 51:28Speaker 1: him ask him for advice about certain things. And you
- 51:32Speaker 1: know how to maneuver and how does he do this
- 51:34Speaker 1: and do that? You know, like he's really like the
- 51:37Speaker 1: greatest man. Like welling up on Kanye with Dave Chappelle
- 51:40Speaker 1: is like, kid, Dave is the one who introduced us.
- 51:43Speaker 1: By the way, I gotta make sure credit him on that.
- 51:45Speaker 1: I just think of like Kanye being on the Chappelle show.
- 51:48Speaker 1: The Double XL cover that Dave Chappelle curated. It was
- 51:51Speaker 1: dead press to quality. I think Kanye was on there too, anyway.
- 51:56Speaker 1: Do you remember that cover? You're probably a young child,
- 51:59Speaker 1: yeah that Yeah. Yeah, you're a big basketball guy. How
- 52:04Speaker 1: you feeling about this year so far? Because I know
- 52:07Speaker 1: you're not Wizards. I'm Wizards all day? Hey yeah addition
- 52:10Speaker 1: by subtraction, Yeah, Westbrook goes the Wizards are good. Yeah,
- 52:15Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. Yeah, Bradley Bill's I know
- 52:18Speaker 1: you can correlate those two. But Bradley Bill is balling
- 52:21Speaker 1: and Kuzma's bawling. Yeah, boy, Kuzman is nice. Yeah. How'd
- 52:25Speaker 1: you ask something to prove? Yeah? Yeah, you and KD
- 52:28Speaker 1: got a cool relationship, right, Yeah, yeah, I would say
- 52:30Speaker 1: we were cool. I'm not like again, I don't like
- 52:31Speaker 1: to exaggerate anything. But that's like, that's the homie. You know,
- 52:34Speaker 1: he from the same area. He always show love and
- 52:38Speaker 1: support my music. He's a real nigga. Who is your
- 52:40Speaker 1: If you had to give me like your top five
- 52:43Speaker 1: d m V rappers of all time excluding Corday who Okay,
- 52:47Speaker 1: top d n V rappers of all time, Yep, gotta
- 52:52Speaker 1: go wide of course, gotta go Shot Lizzie, Okay, gotta
- 52:56Speaker 1: go Fat Trail, Free Fat Trail again, Free Fat Trailer again.
- 53:00Speaker 1: I did a record with him too when he was out.
- 53:02Speaker 1: We got some shit together, so boom boom, because those
- 53:05Speaker 1: are just the three that kicked in the door, kicked
- 53:07Speaker 1: open the door for me. Wile a Fat Trail, Shot Glizzie,
- 53:12Speaker 1: Big Flock, and Cue the Fool Okay, Yeah, and you
- 53:15Speaker 1: gotta put logic in there as well as far as
- 53:17Speaker 1: just massiveness, big selling records, selling out arenas. But those
- 53:22Speaker 1: five were like the most influential for sure. But you
- 53:25Speaker 1: definitely got to put logic in there for what he
- 53:27Speaker 1: done and opened up the doors. I'm trying to think
- 53:29Speaker 1: if there's anyone else that I'm thinking from the d
- 53:31Speaker 1: m V that I used to really, I mean, I mean,
- 53:35Speaker 1: you've got a lot of them. Yeah, that's it. Shout
- 53:37Speaker 1: out to the DMV man and then of course Corday.
- 53:40Speaker 1: Now yo, so the album is out. You know, Rico
- 53:42Speaker 1: Nasty's from the DNV as well. I did not know.
- 53:44Speaker 1: Yeah on the whole Brent Fayez, Oh yeah, Brent's fucking
- 53:48Speaker 1: Brent Fire and I was just going to you know,
- 53:51Speaker 1: but Brent Fayaz and Rico Nasty, those are the two
- 53:54Speaker 1: people honestly that in that like inspired me the most
- 53:58Speaker 1: coming out of dn V because we all not the
- 54:00Speaker 1: same age, but all was coming up. Well, they was
- 54:02Speaker 1: up way before I was. They was already like but
- 54:04Speaker 1: they weren't superstars quite yet in like twenty seventeen, twenty eighteen.
- 54:08Speaker 1: But they showed me because I thought you had to
- 54:11Speaker 1: be on some street shit to blow up out of
- 54:12Speaker 1: DNV because that's what everybody was doing, like you know,
- 54:14Speaker 1: the cute fool Shabaz, big Flop Gunu, all of these cats.
- 54:18Speaker 1: Shout out to all of them. I feel like Brent's
- 54:20Speaker 1: one of the more underrated guys. Like when we just
- 54:21Speaker 1: think of like how he came up, how he was independent,
- 54:25Speaker 1: just like now he's the ones business model. First of all,
- 54:28Speaker 1: the music is incredible, but high level everything else that
- 54:31Speaker 1: comes with, like his story, like how they were just
- 54:36Speaker 1: operating just so independent for so long as R and
- 54:38Speaker 1: B singers, Like, Yeah, we always think about all these
- 54:40Speaker 1: rappers that are independent as fuck. He shout out to Russ,
- 54:43Speaker 1: shout out to Dolph, shout out to all these independent dudes. YEA,
- 54:45Speaker 1: Like Brent Fires is really independent as a motherfucker. Yeah,
- 54:50Speaker 1: on a whole other level on some R and B shit. Yeah, nah,
- 54:52Speaker 1: He's one of the ones. And seeing him and Rico,
- 54:55Speaker 1: they both was in their own they whole like own lane,
- 55:00Speaker 1: you know, not following like the DMV trend, both on
- 55:02Speaker 1: their own lane doing the executing at a high level.
- 55:05Speaker 1: So those two motherfuckers right there was inspiring the shit
- 55:08Speaker 1: out of me. What is on the binge watch list
- 55:10Speaker 1: for Corday recent? Like, what are you binge watching at home?
- 55:13Speaker 1: If you're at home chilling with the lady, what do
- 55:15Speaker 1: you guys throwing on? I don't really binge watch anything,
- 55:18Speaker 1: to be honest, bro, I've been I'm even Like the
- 55:20Speaker 1: day my album came out, after I linked up with
- 55:22Speaker 1: Ya and after the album release party, I went straight
- 55:25Speaker 1: back home and got in the studio row but you
- 55:28Speaker 1: don't watch TV, not that your four Nah, don't. I
- 55:33Speaker 1: gotta tap into that, honestly, Like, I'll like watch I
- 55:38Speaker 1: Love to Be a Mess series. I got to watch that.
- 55:40Speaker 1: That ship was super fire. Shout out Little Meat fifty.
- 55:43Speaker 1: That shit was incredible. You ever watched Curby Enthusiasm? Nope?
- 55:46Speaker 1: Oh man, it's the funniest show ever. I've heard that
- 55:50Speaker 1: recently from somebody else, Larry David. He's just old. He's
- 55:52Speaker 1: a guy who wrote Seinfeld, so it's like a bro.
- 55:54Speaker 1: I just heard this from somebody. It's the funniest show
- 55:57Speaker 1: like all time. I don't know who recommended me this,
- 56:00Speaker 1: but somebody literally recommended me. Curb your enthusy as excuse me,
- 56:04Speaker 1: curb your enthusiasm within the last two weeks. You gotta
- 56:07Speaker 1: tap in. Yeah, I must have to. What about your
- 56:10Speaker 1: favorite movies ever? Give me three movies that come to mind. Okay,
- 56:15Speaker 1: top is top movies ever? Now this pornography count porn movies? Yeah? Sure, hmm,
- 56:26Speaker 1: you say, what who's this? We'll get to those. Who's
- 56:30Speaker 1: your favorite porn star everts of all time? All time? Oh? Okay,
- 56:35Speaker 1: you gotta go with the pop Eyes chick. Just for
- 56:38Speaker 1: the culture because like that was just a moment in time.
- 56:41Speaker 1: The Popes. You never seen the pop Oys jump? You
- 56:47Speaker 1: recommended curb your enthusiasm. I recommend the pop Eyes jump.
- 56:53Speaker 1: I don't know, like just top three. We'll do the
- 56:58Speaker 1: porn stars first, then the movie. Sorry, the movie. Let's
- 57:00Speaker 1: do the movie. Let's do the movie. Three movies Friday.
- 57:04Speaker 1: This is just some ultimate, just nigga shit, to be honest,
- 57:07Speaker 1: but it's just my truth, my top three. It's a
- 57:09Speaker 1: great movie, change my life. Great movie Friday, six years old,
- 57:15Speaker 1: talking like Smokey Damn. What's another movie I love? I love? Okay,
- 57:22Speaker 1: this is a random one because I just got asked
- 57:24Speaker 1: this question. But Glorious Bastards, Oh so good. I loved
- 57:28Speaker 1: that because I'm a history fucking fiend. I love history,
- 57:31Speaker 1: so whenever people incorporate like history and it's some shit.
- 57:34Speaker 1: I guess the most underappreciated Quentin Tarantino movie. Great movie.
- 57:38Speaker 1: I was at the comedy store a couple of days
- 57:40Speaker 1: ago and Quentin Tarantino was sitting in the booth next
- 57:43Speaker 1: to us by himself, fucking laughing his like, the guy
- 57:46Speaker 1: had the loudest fucking laugh in the whole place. But
- 57:48Speaker 1: it was like it was kind of surreal to be like,
- 57:50Speaker 1: oh shit, I live in LA and sometimes you go
- 57:52Speaker 1: to the comedy store and you're sitting next to the
- 57:54Speaker 1: greatest director of all time. Yeah, one more glorious Bastards Friday.
- 58:00Speaker 1: Can it be TV show or just strictly movies? Give
- 58:03Speaker 1: me a TV show? Fuck it? I would say the
- 58:06Speaker 1: Chappelle Show. But if I can't say the Chappelle Show,
- 58:08Speaker 1: I would say Boondocks. Boon Docks is amazing, amazing, Yeah,
- 58:12Speaker 1: boon Docks is up there. Okay, porn Stars, and then
- 58:14Speaker 1: the interview's over, Okay, porn Stars. I can't remember, honestly,
- 58:18Speaker 1: it's been such a minute because like I used to
- 58:21Speaker 1: love porn as a kid, as a teenager, but it's
- 58:23Speaker 1: like a vice bad. It's really bad for you. No, no, no,
- 58:26Speaker 1: it's like I like, after I've finished, I'd be like,
- 58:29Speaker 1: oh my god, what is wrong with me? I'm sure
- 58:31Speaker 1: terrible human? But it's like the most every time you
- 58:34Speaker 1: jerk off, and you know, sometimes you got porn Hub
- 58:37Speaker 1: open and you end up with like eleven tabs. Yeah,
- 58:40Speaker 1: for sure, you're gonna have some credit cards, get scammed
- 58:42Speaker 1: and ship and then you're like, damn, what did I ah,
- 58:47Speaker 1: like what about yeah for sure? Like yeah, no, it's
- 58:51Speaker 1: not the wave honestly, like I can you never know
- 58:53Speaker 1: what you're gonna get right because you just start like,
- 58:55Speaker 1: oh this is a cool tap, like a cool thumbnail.
- 58:59Speaker 1: You're like, then you just you end up in a
- 59:01Speaker 1: place that you didn't know you we're gonna end up
- 59:03Speaker 1: in thirty minutes prior and man thirty forty five or
- 59:07Speaker 1: like on a man man. I really can't name like
- 59:11Speaker 1: the names off the top because it's been a minute.
- 59:13Speaker 1: I'm not just trying to be on some cool nigga
- 59:15Speaker 1: shit like oh you know, I don't want but I
- 59:19Speaker 1: can't think of it. No one name not off the
- 59:22Speaker 1: door Popeyes, I forgot her name. I can just tell you,
- 59:25Speaker 1: like the scenario it was, it was shot up, was
- 59:28Speaker 1: shot in Adam Popeyes. This is like this is culture
- 59:31Speaker 1: keV like at like this is this is called many
- 59:35Speaker 1: years ago? Is this about five four to five years ago?
- 59:39Speaker 1: My prom he's a creep. You know what the Popeyes?
- 59:41Speaker 1: You know about the Popeyes, bro, you curb your enthusiasm.
- 59:48Speaker 1: Popeye'es porn for sure, It's gonna go on h X
- 59:51Speaker 1: videos and typing Popeyes and see what pop is maybe
- 59:53Speaker 1: on porn hub. I'm not sure about X videos. Shout out,
- 59:56Speaker 1: shout out to the hub of Hub is life, Hub
- 59:59Speaker 1: is life. Well, look, I appreciate you pulling up man,
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: the album is dope. Appreciate you having me. I was
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: telling this to Ace. I think I had the album
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: maybe like a week early, and cohesively is like perfect,
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: Like you know, thanks you back, Like I feel like,
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: you know, I love the first album, but I feel like,
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: you know you you improved on the second one. Man, Nah,
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: thank you. I appreciate that. That means the world to me.
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: Hopefully I got away three years to get the next. No, no, no,
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: I'm coming. I'm the world is back open like a pandemic.
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: I'm coming. You know every artist has their uh, their
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: era to where they just start dropping ship and start
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: going crazy. I think this is this is why I
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: like doing that. How'd you make seven million dollars? This
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: is the last question. Okay, you know, for all you know,
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: I could have been lying, man. I mean, you know
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: it's a nice flex. So how'd you make you know, uh,
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: less than seven million? I mean, how'd you get in
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: lessons without putting out music during the pandemic. Man, just
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: being more honestly, being more mindful of my business, more
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: mindful everything I do as a business expense, you know,
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: it's a write off. I'm investing in the real estate,
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: stocks and bond This is just how you attain wealth
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: in general. Just more so generalizing my turn, not saying
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: how I made more or less right but now, but
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: like you're actually putting money into yeah, yeah, in stocks, bonds,
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: real estate. I'm not too big on the crypto way
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: because I would have to do a lot more research
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: on that. But I'm super like old school more so
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: with my safe stocks. I found a couple of gold
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: mines like Neo and i Owe, which is like the
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: Chinese Tesla. And I got into the stock market at
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: a great time. This is when COVID first happened. When
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: it first happened, everything was super low. No no no, no,
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: dal Jones on the nineteen thousand. Right now it's at
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: like thirty seven or something like that. So I dumped
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: into it. I was just like, I have, I'm in
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: this blessed position to have access to all this extra capital,
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: So I just dumped in it. You know, doing certain
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: brand endorsement deals things of that, nature like, yeah, I
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: mean your fly ship with the latest one is coach right, No, no, no,
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: I'm not coach on Puma all day. Oh Puma. I
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: feel like I feel like someone told me you were coach.
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: Yeah I was, but you know how it didn't work
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: out and it's not and it didn't work out. But
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: I'm Puma all day, Puma, Pum all day. What is
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: their biggest non rap check been so far? Don't don't
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: tell us how much? Just yeah, where was it from? Puma?
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: Puma all day? Fucking poom man? They man, I had
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: to downgrade my lifestyle when the pandemic happened. I'm like, ship, nigga,
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: we might have to start motherfucking doing swipe up so
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: on the stories and promos and ship for It's like,
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: I'm like, ship nigga, how are we finna do this?
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: We ain't doing shows like ship now. But you know
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: I didn't have to downgrade my lifestyle at all. That's good.
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: They gonna give your own sneakers soon, yes, on the
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: works right now, Yeah, because Cole sneakers fire. Yeah, I
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: feel like you're you gotta get your sneaker man. You
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: know it's it's it's already. It's gonna be high level.
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: Are you be involved in the silhouette and the design? Yeah, yeah,
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: My boy Ian Rutlish, my boy I and Michael excuse me,
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: shout out to him has been helping on a design
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: as well. So it's gonna be imello. It was a
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: Puma guy. Yeah, yeah, now Puma and I've been with
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: Puma like Earth. They've been rocking with me early, like
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: remember a mellow before a bunch of not saying you
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: know whatever, but I remember a lot of these cats.
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: They've been rocking with me early early. You know. They
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: was in the location my Locations video Location Ships video
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: was paid for by Puma, you know. So I called
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: them like my fairy godmother man like, because they they're
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: just they treat me well over there, like no even
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: like for my the Hourum release, they sent me like
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: fucking Acespace bottle and like, man, they like they treat
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: me really well. Like when I'm doing things in conjunction
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: with Puma, they'll like fly me on like the Puma jet,
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: like I really fuck with that company. Man. Even more
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: than that, they're like very and I'm not just saying
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: this because I'm getting the check up for sure, this
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: and that, because with as an artist is a fine line.
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: You can't become like too brand heavy because you lose
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: like you're you'll just look like you'll do whatever for
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: a dollar, you know. So I try to remain like
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: very reclusive when it comes to brand alignment thing anybody.
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: And I think the less brand deals you have is
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: more cool because I could just because of like who
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: I am and the type of the lane I'm in,
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: I can fucking be cashing out brands all the day.
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: But but but I'd be sletting myself out in the
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: long term if I'm just taking every single brand deal
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: every Yeah, for sure. And so I say that to
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: say that Pulma has been in alignment with what I
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: have for my vision and they're always like helping with
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: community projects, things that I'll never like have on camera,
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: these things that's just for for my good karma and
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: to actually help people they really like into the community
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: and things of that nature. So they got to do
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: a commercial with you, LaMelo and the best Puma athlete,
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: the starting center for the best team in the NBA,
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: DeAndre Aiden. Yeah, oh you are shout out CP three.
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: That's my boy. Yeah, that's my dog. He's a grown
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: ass man. Now that's my boy. Like he'd be showing
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: me mad and mad mad love and he's just like
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: no, no no, no, we met? How did mean CP three meet?
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: We met? Oh? Because you know, my family lives in
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: North Carolina. You know, I was born in North Carolina.
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: You know, I was raised a lot of Maryland. But
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: my I talked to Rhapsody about that. She was like
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: that boy from Carolina. Yeah yeah, yeah for sure, but
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: but a lot I was I grew. I was born
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: in Raleigh, North Carolina. Like, my family lives in North Carolina,
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: and so it's that Carolina connection. And yeah, he just
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: shows like a lot of love. Man, gives a lot
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: of insight and whatever. Like he's one of the ones real.
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: He's probably the best point guard of Like I think
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: it's your point guard top five all time. Yeah, I mean,
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: like probably the best leader in the NBA over the
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: last like twenty years. Bro. Yeah, every team he goes
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: to gets instantly better, like playoff not even play off
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: the Thunder two years ago. Bro. Yes, yeah they're at
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: five seed. Yeah, like no, bro, because it's like a
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: piece of advice CP three is given. Man, just just
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: lock in and stay working, like and just realize what's
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: your goal and just stay true to yourself, and you'd
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: be fucking pulling up to these games. You flew to
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: Phoenix to go to the finals game. I was at
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: the finals. Yeah. I was late for it too, I
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: can I know. I was sitting like up above and
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: I saw you come in, like yeah, like end of them. No, no,
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: it was like five minutes left in the fourth court.
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: I was upset about it. I know. I had a
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: sent me He's like, Yo, do you want to go
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: to the Sun's game with Corda And I was like sure,
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: and then he was like, yo, he's gonna be super
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: fucking late. And I was like, well, I'm I'm gonna
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: just get my own ticket, yeah, because I can't miss.
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: I mean we ended up losing that game. Yeah, No,
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: I was there for Yeah, I went there. Really does
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: support CEP. Honestly, You're at a lot of games though
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: you're like a real fucking basketball and man, you know,
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: I'm in a blessed position. But I've never been to
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: an NBA game, not courtside really, like I've never my
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: first NBA game. No, no, no, no, I've never went
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: to an NBA game as a kid. So my first
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: NBA game was you know, me being an artist. So
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: I've always been courtside. Bro, it's a blessing you worked
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: into the plumid deal. No no, no no, no no, no,
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: no no no, this is this is just how you splurge. Now.
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: I don't spend no, I don't spend no money on it.
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: It's like either a player lookout or like somebody just
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: randomly called like yo, you want to go to the
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. So like me having this
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: relationships with players, they'd be like, yo, pull up on
