- 0:00Speaker 1: Now, from the Star Reynolds Sports Desk, your 93.3 KJR
- 0:04Speaker 1: FM Sports Headlines.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Good morning. Happy Monday. Headlines are brought to you by Frostbrood,
- 0:09Speaker 2: Coors Light, Choose Chill. Seahawks cut 91 players down to
- 0:13Speaker 2: 53 yesterday. Setting the initial roster for the regular season,
- 0:17Speaker 2: they traded to the Chargers to get an undrafted rookie cornerback,
- 0:20Speaker 2: Avery Smith. I'll tell you why they did that. He
- 0:23Speaker 2: goes right on the 53 man. He plays inside nickel.
- 0:25Speaker 2: He plays outside corner. Montori Foster, our guy. We had him, what,
- 0:30Speaker 2: back in July?
- 0:31Speaker 3: Dude, where we were like, huh, okay, great.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Before Hard Knocks got on.
- 0:36Speaker 4: And then we found out everything about him before Hard Knocks.
- 0:40Speaker 2: And then he was going nuts and playing so well,
- 0:43Speaker 2: he was sweating it Friday night in Kansas City. You're
- 0:45Speaker 2: going to hear from him later. He made the team,
- 0:47Speaker 2: but he thought Friday night in Kansas City. When I
- 0:49Speaker 2: talked to him at Arrowhead Stadium, he was sweating it, man.
- 0:52Speaker 2: He didn't think he was going to make the team.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Of course.
- 0:54Speaker 3: I mean, look at his position. It makes sense that
- 0:56Speaker 3: he would sweat.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Trevon Diggs did not make the team. He got cut
- 1:01Speaker 2: after he starred in the game Friday night. There's way
- 1:03Speaker 2: more to it than meets the eye there. We'll talk
- 1:05Speaker 2: about that. We'll talk about Cody White. Kind of same
- 1:09Speaker 2: situation as Diggs. He got cut. Patrick O'Connell, fourth year
- 1:12Speaker 2: out of Montana. He made his first team. roster for
- 1:15Speaker 2: an NFL team coming out of the preseason. He's the
- 1:17Speaker 2: backup middle linebacker to Ernest Jones. Tons more to talk
- 1:21Speaker 2: about on the Seahawks roster, why they did what they did.
- 1:22Speaker 2: A little roster gymnastics by the GM. We'll explain that
- 1:26Speaker 2: as well. Seahawks finally signed Terryon Arnold on Saturday, like
- 1:29Speaker 2: we said they would, the day after the final preseason game.
- 1:33Speaker 2: Then the free agent cornerback they had an agreement to
- 1:35Speaker 2: sign two weeks ago yesterday got put on the NFL's
- 1:38Speaker 2: commissioner list, which we also knew was going to happen.
- 1:40Speaker 2: The Seahawks knew it, too, because of the eight felony
- 1:43Speaker 2: charges he's facing in Florida. He can be in the building.
- 1:46Speaker 2: He can do meetings and training. He can't practice or play.
- 1:49Speaker 2: We're going to talk way more about this, too. Aaron
- 1:51Speaker 2: Donald did exactly what we said he would do.
- 1:53Speaker 5: Yep.
- 1:55Speaker 2: I guess it's kind of.
- 1:56Speaker 3: Sure did.
- 1:57Speaker 2: I'll just skip all the training camp. We'll skip all
- 1:59Speaker 2: the preseason games. Oh, it's over? I'll sign now, please.
- 2:02Speaker 2: One year, $ 20 million with the Rams. Rams open the
- 2:04Speaker 2: season September 10th to the 49ers in Australia. That's, of course,
- 2:08Speaker 2: the day after the Seahawks opened against the Patriots September
- 2:11Speaker 2: 9th at Lumen Field. The Giants kept Odell Beckham Jr., 33-year-old.
- 2:15Speaker 2: It is like fifth reincarnation of an NFL career. Titans
- 2:19Speaker 2: cut former quarterback, starting quarterback Will Levis. Four teams kept
- 2:23Speaker 2: four quarterbacks, which is three more than did that last season.
- 2:27Speaker 2: The Steelers, the Vikings, the Browns, and the Eagles all
- 2:29Speaker 2: kept four quarterbacks. Of course, the Seahawks kept three. Jalen
- 2:33Speaker 2: Milrow really, really improved defensively. That was a good game
- 2:36Speaker 2: for him. He was strong. We're going to talk about that, too.
- 2:39Speaker 2: But a couple throws in particular were like, okay, that's
- 2:41Speaker 2: what they wanted to see. Decisive play from Jalen Milrow.
- 2:45Speaker 2: He's the third quarterback on the active roster again, like
- 2:47Speaker 2: he was last season. Mariners. Should we just move on?
- 2:52Speaker 2: Are they sunk? They're sinking. Are they sunk?
- 2:56Speaker 3: That's a really good question.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Just swept out of Toronto. Lost all three games. Saturday's
- 2:59Speaker 2: fourth three loss after leading 3-0 in the sixth. Edward Bazzardo. Leadership.
- 3:07Speaker 2: This is another example of talent without leadership. Dan Wilson
- 3:13Speaker 2: should have walked out on the field as soon as
- 3:15Speaker 2: Bazzardo did not even turn to tag the guy sliding
- 3:17Speaker 2: home right under his feet and say, give me the ball.
- 3:19Speaker 2: You're done. Just like he showed up when Julio Rodriguez
- 3:22Speaker 2: threw a live ball into the stands a couple weeks
- 3:24Speaker 2: ago and did it again a few days later. Give
- 3:26Speaker 2: me the ball. You're done.
- 3:27Speaker 3: No ass kickers.
- 3:28Speaker 2: You're done.
- 3:28Speaker 3: No ass kickers.
- 3:29Speaker 2: You're done. That's fine. You're done. They don't have that.
- 3:32Speaker 2: One hit yesterday against 96-year-old Max Serger, who was throwing
- 3:36Speaker 2: 92 miles an hour. One hit. 15 strikeouts yesterday in
- 3:40Speaker 2: one hit. That's how urgency this team is showing. Talent
- 3:46Speaker 2: without leadership. M's are a season-low tying nine games under. 500,
- 3:50Speaker 2: five games out in the ALS, five games out in
- 3:52Speaker 2: the wild-card spot, 25 games remaining. Now they head to Boston,
- 3:56Speaker 2: three games against the Red Sox. George Kirby starts today, 345,
- 3:59Speaker 2: first pitch at Fenway Park. And the Red Sox have
- 4:01Speaker 2: a 6-6 left-hander who throws 99 miles an hour going.
- 4:04Speaker 2: How do you think that's going to go?
- 4:05Speaker 3: Oh, boy.
- 4:07Speaker 2: I don't know. I do. Sounders tied 2-2 with Chicago.
- 4:11Speaker 2: New guy Dejan Jolovic scored both goals, including in the
- 4:15Speaker 2: first one, 12 minutes into the match, 12 minutes into
- 4:18Speaker 2: his Sounders career. But then Seattle gave one away late
- 4:21Speaker 2: for the equalizer for Chicago. The Sparks, Los Angeles beat
- 4:24Speaker 2: the Storm 90-74. Stormer, 8-32 in a WNBA. Curacao beat
- 4:28Speaker 2: Nevada to win the Little League World Series. Novak Djokovic,
- 4:33Speaker 2: 39 years old. You know him. Tennis legend.
- 4:36Speaker 6: Of course.
- 4:36Speaker 2: He lost in the first round of a Grand Slam
- 4:39Speaker 2: tennis tournament for the first time in 20 years last
- 4:41Speaker 2: night at the U.S. Open in Flushing Meadows on Jessamyn's
- 4:45Speaker 2: Long Island.
- 4:46Speaker 3: It's just so funny. Flushing Meadows. It sounds so gorgeous.
- 4:50Speaker 3: That place is not.
- 4:52Speaker 2: That's the end of the runway at LaGuardia Airport. Yes, exactly.
- 4:56Speaker 3: Flushing Meadows.
- 4:57Speaker 2: He was throwing up last night. His body's betraying him.
- 5:01Speaker 2: He's 39. body just gave out in a four and
- 5:03Speaker 2: a half hour match. Now on with the Monday pack show.
- 5:06Speaker 2: Happy Monday. Greg Bell, Justin McIntyre. Justin's dancing now. I've
- 5:10Speaker 2: got to go and dance.
- 5:11Speaker 3: How can you not dance to this song?
- 5:13Speaker 2: Mark Morrison in the studio. I get to see that
- 5:15Speaker 2: now because I'm in the studio. I'm back from Kansas City.
- 5:17Speaker 2: Thanks to Mike Benton for pitching on Friday. I heard
- 5:20Speaker 2: it was a good time.
- 5:21Speaker 7: It was.
- 5:22Speaker 3: It's always a raucous time with the captain.
- 5:24Speaker 2: Captain Mike. Mike. Thanks, Mike.
- 5:25Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:26Speaker 2: Kansas City will tell you what I saw that it
- 5:28Speaker 2: pertains to the regular season in this final preseason game.
- 5:33Speaker 2: Good morning, Jessamyn. Good morning. How are you? I'm well. Good.
- 5:37Speaker 2: You seem a little sprightly from what I expected this morning.
- 5:39Speaker 3: You know what?
- 5:40Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 5:40Speaker 4: Sometimes you eat some bad lettuce and you expel all
- 5:43Speaker 4: the demons throughout the weekend.
- 5:45Speaker 3: I'm feeling pretty good right now.
- 5:47Speaker 2: Stay away from Taco Bell.
- 5:48Speaker 3: It wasn't Taco Bell.
- 5:50Speaker 2: We don't have a sponsorship for Taco Bell.
- 5:51Speaker 3: It was Trader Joe's.
- 5:52Speaker 9: No, we do not.
- 5:53Speaker 10: Oh, Trader Joe's.
- 5:54Speaker 3: No, it was just like, you know, there's a thing.
- 5:56Speaker 4: That happens with the food these days, and I've been
- 6:00Speaker 4: eating a lot of produce lately.
- 6:02Speaker 3: Blueberries and lettuce. I cannot find the.
- 6:06Speaker 4: Demon, but whatever demon existed is outside of me now.
- 6:11Speaker 3: Wow.
- 6:13Speaker 11: I know.
- 6:13Speaker 3: I didn't even lose any weight. It sucks.
- 6:16Speaker 2: You checked. We'll talk about the Seahawks roster. I mean,
- 6:21Speaker 2: all the consternation, oh, what will they do, and projections
- 6:24Speaker 2: and all of that, and then it happens, and you're like, oh, okay.
- 6:26Speaker 2: It's a little anticlimactic, but there were some interesting— Inside
- 6:31Speaker 2: ball stuff that went on yesterday, including with Trevon Diggs.
- 6:34Speaker 2: And I know there are people looking at it and going,
- 6:36Speaker 2: wait a minute, they cut Diggs? They did, but they didn't.
- 6:39Speaker 2: We're going to explain that. It's about Mike McDonald's culture.
- 6:43Speaker 2: If he didn't have this culture as strong as it is,
- 6:45Speaker 2: the brotherhood and togetherness that impact players feel it as
- 6:48Speaker 2: soon as they get here. Diggs talked about it last
- 6:51Speaker 2: week when he got here. That's what they're banking on
- 6:54Speaker 2: when they do these veteran moves of cutting veterans and saying,
- 6:56Speaker 2: will you please come sign with a practice squad? Most teams,
- 6:59Speaker 2: the veterans would be like, eh, I'm going to go
- 7:01Speaker 2: shop myself somewhere else and try to get on an
- 7:03Speaker 2: active roster. In Seattle, what you got going for you
- 7:06Speaker 2: is you're the defending Super Bowl champions.
- 7:08Speaker 3: It's a big selling point.
- 7:10Speaker 2: With the number one defense in the league and a
- 7:12Speaker 2: young mastermind defensive coach. And two, the culture. The togetherness
- 7:17Speaker 2: that the players sell these new guys on, the veterans
- 7:20Speaker 2: come in and they're like, whoa, this is how you roll?
- 7:24Speaker 2: I'd love to be a part of this. And that's
- 7:26Speaker 2: why Trevon Diggs is saying, okay, I'm an unrestricted free agent,
- 7:30Speaker 2: free to sign with any team, but I'm not going to.
- 7:32Speaker 2: I'm going to come back to your practice squad and
- 7:34Speaker 2: get ramped up and acclimated for the next couple weeks
- 7:37Speaker 2: and see if I can play in the opener or
- 7:39Speaker 2: the next game or two after that. He hasn't played,
- 7:41Speaker 2: of course, in seven months. 1025, you're going to hear
- 7:44Speaker 2: my chat Friday night in the locker room in Kansas City.
- 7:46Speaker 2: With Montori Foster Jr., the Ohio substitute high school teacher
- 7:52Speaker 2: and real estate agent who was sweating it. He did
- 7:55Speaker 2: not like how his game went. He had one catch
- 7:57Speaker 2: and two targets. He thought he should have run under
- 7:59Speaker 2: a long ball from Milrow in the first half. He
- 8:02Speaker 2: was double teamed, but the pass was about five yards
- 8:05Speaker 2: past him. I'm like, no, he thought he should have
- 8:07Speaker 2: caught that.
- 8:08Speaker 3: Which is great.
- 8:09Speaker 2: Exactly. He wanted a chance on kickoff return, but the
- 8:12Speaker 2: kickoff went to the other side, to Emmanuel Henderson Jr.
- 8:15Speaker 2: 's side, and actually went out of bounds right before
- 8:16Speaker 2: the pylon. So he didn't get a chance at that.
- 8:20Speaker 2: They tried him at punt return, which they hadn't tried before,
- 8:22Speaker 2: and he didn't get an opportunity there either. He was unsatisfied,
- 8:26Speaker 2: dissatisfied for sure. And I said, you're going to be
- 8:29Speaker 2: all right. I think you're making the team. And he's
- 8:31Speaker 2: going to be like, don't say that. He's putting his
- 8:33Speaker 2: hands up. No, no, no, don't say that. So he
- 8:35Speaker 2: was sweating all weekend, but he did make the team
- 8:38Speaker 2: as he deserved to for the standout.
- 8:39Speaker 3: I'm so excited about that.
- 8:41Speaker 4: Honestly, like when you sat down with him and if
- 8:44Speaker 4: you want to hear that interview, it is up on
- 8:47Speaker 4: the Greg Bell show podcast page, but it was so early.
- 8:51Speaker 4: And we didn't know much about him. And you did
- 8:54Speaker 4: your research. You found out about him. And he told
- 8:57Speaker 4: us about him. And so this is way before 87
- 9:01Speaker 4: parents in the stands on hard knocks that you got
- 9:06Speaker 4: to sit down with him.
- 9:07Speaker 3: And you wrote a story about it, too.
- 9:08Speaker 2: In the News Tribune, he went to the high school
- 9:12Speaker 2: that my nephews have gone to, Lakewood St. Edwards High School.
- 9:15Speaker 2: Lakewood is the town just west of downtown Cleveland along
- 9:18Speaker 2: Ohio Route 2 along Lake Erie. He's from the east
- 9:21Speaker 2: side of Cleveland, actually near JFK High School. I played
- 9:24Speaker 2: against Cleveland JFK when I was in Steubenville High School
- 9:27Speaker 2: in Ohio. So I'm very familiar with where he's from
- 9:29Speaker 2: and his background and where he went and where he
- 9:32Speaker 2: taught last year. And then he told me this great
- 9:34Speaker 2: story about how he needed someone to throw with, to
- 9:37Speaker 2: throw to him so he could run routes and stay
- 9:39Speaker 2: sharp last year. The Seahawks cut him in August of
- 9:42Speaker 2: last season because he had a hamstring injury. It wasn't
- 9:45Speaker 2: that bad. They cut him, waved, injured, and he was done.
- 9:47Speaker 2: He didn't play for anybody last year. He was substitute teaching,
- 9:49Speaker 2: getting his real estate license, thinking it was time to
- 9:51Speaker 2: move on to his life's work. And he bumped into,
- 9:55Speaker 2: he called some random guy at a gym, 24 hour
- 9:58Speaker 2: fitness type of gym who said, Hey, I heard you
- 10:00Speaker 2: were in an NFL training camp. You're a wide receiver.
- 10:03Speaker 2: I can throw passes to you. And Foster's like, who
- 10:06Speaker 2: are you? And it turns out this guy was a
- 10:08Speaker 2: high school quarterback on the East side of Cleveland 10
- 10:10Speaker 2: years ago.
- 10:10Speaker 3: He could still throw though.
- 10:13Speaker 2: And so that's what they did out in the cold
- 10:15Speaker 2: inside in a 24 hour fitness gym. They threw all during–
- 10:19Speaker 2: while the Seahawks were going to the Super Bowl and
- 10:21Speaker 2: marching to the NFC West title, Montori Foster was throwing
- 10:24Speaker 2: and catching passes from some random guy in a gym
- 10:26Speaker 2: in Cleveland. And he stayed sharp enough to become the
- 10:29Speaker 2: practice squad call-up– wait, we didn't get called up. He
- 10:32Speaker 2: got signed to the practice squad at the end of December.
- 10:34Speaker 2: He was on the practice squad through the Super Bowl.
- 10:36Speaker 2: He was on the sideline in a hoodie in Santa
- 10:39Speaker 2: Clara February 8th when the Seahawks won the Super Bowl.
- 10:41Speaker 2: He has a Super Bowl ring. And he got invited
- 10:43Speaker 2: back to be on the offseason, preseason roster. And he
- 10:46Speaker 2: just kicked ass.
- 10:47Speaker 3: Greg, does it not represent the way the Seahawks do things?
- 10:51Speaker 2: Yeah, it does.
- 10:52Speaker 4: More than anything, it is. And also, you have to shine.
- 10:56Speaker 4: You have to do it.
- 10:57Speaker 2: Yeah, it seizes your opportunity, for sure.
- 10:59Speaker 3: Right, but it just.
- 11:02Speaker 3: I just love this team so much. And I'm not
- 11:05Speaker 3: a 12.
- 11:06Speaker 4: I did not grow up a Seahawks fan. I have
- 11:08Speaker 4: gravitated towards them since I moved out here and I work.
- 11:12Speaker 3: I'm in the media just like you.
- 11:14Speaker 4: But the way they operate is just like a gravitational force.
- 11:20Speaker 3: I love the way they do things. I love the
- 11:23Speaker 3: way they do things.
- 11:24Speaker 4: And this is just the perfect example of how something
- 11:27Speaker 4: great can come out of someone great.
- 11:30Speaker 2: When you hear him at 1025, it's also an example
- 11:32Speaker 2: of how the stress adds up on these guys on
- 11:36Speaker 2: cut weekend. 1,100 players yesterday got either cut or put
- 11:40Speaker 2: on injured list and were told, nah, you're not in
- 11:43Speaker 2: our plans. 1,100 around the league, many of whom will
- 11:46Speaker 2: not be picked up. Some will, but not a lot.
- 11:51Speaker 2: Last year, in fact, only 26 players league-wide got picked
- 11:54Speaker 2: up on the waiver pickups.
- 11:55Speaker 8: Hmm.
- 11:56Speaker 2: Out of 32 teams. That's pretty low. Not even one
- 11:58Speaker 2: per team.
- 11:59Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 11:59Speaker 2: So all this concern about, well, he cleared waivers, almost
- 12:03Speaker 2: always do. That's interesting to me. The waiver period ends
- 12:06Speaker 2: at 1 o'clock today, after which time Trevon Diggs can
- 12:09Speaker 2: sign as an unrestricted free agent to the Seahawks practice squad.
- 12:12Speaker 2: Cody White can do the same thing. Noah Igbenogany can
- 12:14Speaker 2: do the same thing. I think that's going to happen.
- 12:17Speaker 2: We'll talk about which veterans they cut yesterday. I like Noah.
- 12:20Speaker 2: Noah talked to us, too, and Jessamyn was a fan.
- 12:24Speaker 3: Okay, I'm the easiest fan to get that.
- 12:26Speaker 2: 10.45, we're going to hear from Mike McDonald, how he
- 12:30Speaker 2: thinks of Jalen Milrow after his performance. Man, the Seahawks
- 12:33Speaker 2: feel a lot better about him than they did a
- 12:34Speaker 2: week ago. And you're going to hear McDonald describe, when
- 12:38Speaker 2: I ask him, what makes you think the starters are
- 12:39Speaker 2: ready because you haven't seen them play in a game
- 12:42Speaker 2: since the Super Bowl in February? He answered that question.
- 12:44Speaker 2: You'll hear that at 10.45. 11 o'clock, you're going to
- 12:48Speaker 2: hear from John Schneider. The general manager who had a
- 12:52Speaker 2: press conference with the beat writers yesterday, it's like a
- 12:54Speaker 2: meteor strike or a blue moon. It happens two or
- 12:57Speaker 2: three times a year.
- 12:58Speaker 3: Yeah, he's not on the mic all the time.
- 13:01Speaker 2: He talks to other people, but he doesn't talk to
- 13:03Speaker 2: us regularly, and he did yesterday, and we asked him
- 13:05Speaker 2: questions about Terryon Arnold. You'll hear why he signed Arnold,
- 13:10Speaker 2: but more than that, you'll hear about the Seahawk legend
- 13:13Speaker 2: who told him to sign Terryon Arnold. Remember the name
- 13:16Speaker 2: Leon Washington from back in the day?
- 13:18Speaker 3: My gosh.
- 13:19Speaker 2: New York Jets?
- 13:20Speaker 5: Yes!
- 13:21Speaker 3: Yes, I'm very well aware.
- 13:22Speaker 13: I know.
- 13:23Speaker 2: Leon Washington is the reason that Tarion Arnold is a
- 13:27Speaker 2: Seahawk today.
- 13:28Speaker 3: That's pretty awesome.
- 13:29Speaker 2: You'll hear about that at 11 o'clock. 1130, your text
- 13:31Speaker 2: and talkbacks on the Tacoma Dodge text line, the talkbacks
- 13:33Speaker 2: on the iHeartRadio app or website 933KJR. com. She loves Jessamyn.
- 13:38Speaker 3: Give me the voices. I'm not so lonely today because
- 13:42Speaker 3: you're in studio. So that helps a little bit. But
- 13:45Speaker 3: I just love putting your voices on the show.
- 13:49Speaker 2: The surprise of yesterday was for sure Trevon Diggs getting
- 13:52Speaker 2: cut because I think he won a job on Friday night.
- 13:54Speaker 2: Now the question is, when will he be ready to
- 13:56Speaker 2: fill that job? When I asked Mike McDonald, is it
- 13:59Speaker 2: viable that Diggs can play in week one? He said, yeah, viable.
- 14:02Speaker 2: Interception on the only pass thrown to him. The veterans
- 14:06Speaker 2: running all the way down the side, very conspicuously running
- 14:08Speaker 2: down the sidelines onto the field. Leonard Williams, Ernest Jones
- 14:11Speaker 2: into the end zone. Diggs said he, oh yeah, he
- 14:14Speaker 2: noticed that. He felt right at home. First tackle, first
- 14:17Speaker 2: play of the game. This is when I knew Diggs
- 14:18Speaker 2: knew this was a tryout. He knew it anyway, but
- 14:21Speaker 2: he played like it was. Very first play of the game.
- 14:23Speaker 2: Did you, I don't know if you watched the game.
- 14:25Speaker 2: I did. The very first defensive play of the game.
- 14:28Speaker 2: It was a dive play up the middle by the Chiefs.
- 14:31Speaker 2: You know who was in on the tackle? Trevon Diggs
- 14:34Speaker 2: from right cornerback ran from outside the numbers. I mean, sprinted.
- 14:39Speaker 2: This is a seventh-year veteran going to turn 29 next month, 28,
- 14:42Speaker 2: who's been an all-pro, was sprinting into a dive play
- 14:47Speaker 2: to make a tackle in the first play. And I said, whoa,
- 14:49Speaker 2: Diggs has come to play. He's come to win a
- 14:51Speaker 2: job tonight. That was the tell. You'll hear from Diggs
- 14:56Speaker 2: right now, matter of fact, about that. debut friday night
- 15:00Speaker 2: and about the veterans running down the sideline this is
- 15:03Speaker 2: trevon diggs after friday night's game in kansas city what do.
- 15:06Speaker 11: You feel like you got out of the plane tonight
- 15:08Speaker 11: i feel like i got the jitters out you know
- 15:10Speaker 11: i haven't played in what seven months since i put
- 15:13Speaker 11: on equipment and just been flying around and going against
- 15:15Speaker 11: someone else so you know i only had two practices
- 15:18Speaker 11: so you know just getting out there and you know
- 15:20Speaker 11: just getting the natural you know football feeling getting that
- 15:23Speaker 11: feeling back you know i feel good How.
- 15:25Speaker 14: Much did you feel part of the team when you
- 15:26Speaker 14: had all the veteran guys running down the sidelines with
- 15:29Speaker 14: you to celebrate?
- 15:29Speaker 11: Yeah, it was amazing. Those guys do a great job
- 15:32Speaker 11: of just uplifting everybody. No matter who it is, they
- 15:35Speaker 11: do a great job of just uplifting, being there for
- 15:39Speaker 11: one another and just supporting. You need that, especially on
- 15:42Speaker 11: a team. I feel like a brotherhood, so you need that.
- 15:44Speaker 11: What do you think.
- 15:45Speaker 14: You showed in four practices in one game?
- 15:49Speaker 11: Hopefully I showed that I can still play.
- 15:53Speaker 2: I'm ready to go.
- 15:53Speaker 13: I'm ready to play.
- 15:54Speaker 11: I'm ready to help this team win.
- 15:58Speaker 2: He convinced Mike McDonald that he can play. That was
- 16:00Speaker 2: Trevon Diggs Friday night at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City
- 16:03Speaker 2: after the third preseason game. He took off his shoulder
- 16:05Speaker 2: pads in the middle of the second quarter and was
- 16:07Speaker 2: just standing with Devin Witherspoon and Julian Love and the veterans.
- 16:10Speaker 2: That's when I knew he, one, made the team, and two,
- 16:13Speaker 2: is going to be a part of the starting defense.
- 16:15Speaker 2: Now the question becomes how soon can he get there?
- 16:18Speaker 2: And the fact that it's not a slam dunk that
- 16:20Speaker 2: he can play week one is the reason that he's
- 16:22Speaker 2: not on the 53. They cut him. Why did they
- 16:26Speaker 2: cut him yesterday? Well, John Schneider's roster gymnastics are he
- 16:29Speaker 2: has an agreement with Diggs that come back and sign
- 16:32Speaker 2: with the practice squad as an unrestricted free agent. If
- 16:35Speaker 2: you have four years or more of a crude service
- 16:38Speaker 2: in the NFL, you're not subject to waivers when you're
- 16:40Speaker 2: released by a team. Under four years, you have to
- 16:43Speaker 2: go through league waivers. That waiver period ends at 1
- 16:45Speaker 2: o'clock today. But if you're an unrestricted free agent, you
- 16:48Speaker 2: can sign anywhere you want, do anything you want. Practice squad,
- 16:50Speaker 2: active roster, wherever you want. Diggs is now an unrestricted
- 16:53Speaker 2: free agent with an agreement with Snyder to come back
- 16:56Speaker 2: to the Seahawks practice squad after the waiver period ends
- 16:58Speaker 2: at 1 p.m. today. That's what he's going to do
- 17:00Speaker 2: unless he gets blown away with some offer. But again,
- 17:03Speaker 2: he could have signed with anybody all offseason until two
- 17:06Speaker 2: weeks ago, and he chose the Seahawks. So that's where
- 17:09Speaker 2: they're headed with that. They're going to try to do,
- 17:12Speaker 2: I think, the same practice squad roster trick with Cody White.
- 17:15Speaker 2: These are all the veterans they cut yesterday who are
- 17:17Speaker 2: now unrestricted free agents with service time. Cody White, the
- 17:21Speaker 2: safety D'Anthony Bell, and we mentioned Igbenogany, the running back
- 17:25Speaker 2: Vellis Jones Jr., safety Rodney Thomas, who used to start
- 17:29Speaker 2: with the Colts, who was missed part of training camp
- 17:32Speaker 2: with a hand injury he had surgery for. You can
- 17:35Speaker 2: carry up to six vested veterans on the practice squad.
- 17:39Speaker 2: So the two, I don't think Nick Vanette's coming back
- 17:42Speaker 2: as much as I like him.
- 17:43Speaker 12: I know.
- 17:44Speaker 2: Because they chose Nick Kellerup as their fourth tight end. Younger,
- 17:48Speaker 2: more of an upside.
- 17:49Speaker 3: Happy for Nick, though.
- 17:50Speaker 2: Nick's 33. He's got a good life. Just had a
- 17:53Speaker 2: new baby.
- 17:53Speaker 9: Yes.
- 17:54Speaker 2: Yeah, we talked to him a couple weeks ago.
- 17:55Speaker 3: He's got a White Walker wife.
- 17:57Speaker 2: Yes.
- 17:57Speaker 4: I'm sorry, that's a joke because she has the bluest
- 18:00Speaker 4: eyes I've ever seen. It's a Game of Thrones reference.
- 18:04Speaker 3: I wasn't being a jerk.
- 18:06Speaker 2: She's gorgeous. Bobby Hart, the tackle, also someone I don't
- 18:10Speaker 2: think is going to come back to the practice squad.
- 18:12Speaker 2: Although they need tackles, he didn't perform very well, the
- 18:15Speaker 2: veteran in training camp. Although they could bring him back too.
- 18:18Speaker 2: But only six of those eight can come back, up
- 18:20Speaker 2: to six veterans on the practice squad. So that's what
- 18:22Speaker 2: they're doing with Diggs. That's what they're doing with Cody White.
- 18:26Speaker 2: The Anthony Bell had been the backup to Nicky Manwari. Okay,
- 18:29Speaker 2: let's talk about Nicky Manwari. Yesterday was a step for
- 18:33Speaker 2: him toward playing in the opener. He's not there yet,
- 18:36Speaker 2: but for the first time he was in a jersey
- 18:39Speaker 2: and participating at the start of practice. He was warming up,
- 18:42Speaker 2: doing calisthenics, doing stretching, in with his guys. He looked
- 18:45Speaker 2: like he was participating in practice. Now, we're shooed away
- 18:49Speaker 2: after the first five minutes. All we get to watch
- 18:51Speaker 2: is stretching these days because it's super secret, top secret.
- 18:55Speaker 2: NFL teams that can't show anything on August 30th.
- 18:58Speaker 3: Double secret probation.
- 19:00Speaker 2: I can get into the Pentagon and get more access.
- 19:02Speaker 2: I have gotten in the Pentagon and gotten more access
- 19:05Speaker 2: than I can do an NFL team. But suffice to
- 19:08Speaker 2: say that it was another step. He had not put
- 19:10Speaker 2: on a jersey yet. He had not been in cleats
- 19:12Speaker 2: in a jersey since the arthroscopic surgery last month on
- 19:15Speaker 2: his ankle. It's a nod toward him getting closer to playing.
- 19:19Speaker 2: Is he still there? I think it's 50-50 that Eamon
- 19:21Speaker 2: Worry plays September 9th against the Patriots. But he's not
- 19:25Speaker 2: on any injured list to begin the season. And he
- 19:28Speaker 2: came off the pup list a couple weeks ago when
- 19:30Speaker 2: he passed his physical. So that's where that stands with
- 19:33Speaker 2: Eamon Worry. The only guy they put on injured designated
- 19:36Speaker 2: return is a wide receiver no one's talked about. Irvin
- 19:38Speaker 2: Charles is a veteran in the NFL. And we asked yesterday,
- 19:42Speaker 2: Curtis Crabtree of Fox 13 asked him, basically saying, why
- 19:46Speaker 2: did you put Irvin Charles as one of your two
- 19:47Speaker 2: designated-to-return guys on the cut day? And he said he's
- 19:51Speaker 2: an extraordinary gunner. And that might explain why they cut
- 19:55Speaker 2: Emmanuel Henderson Jr., the draft pick, that they drafted four
- 20:00Speaker 2: special teams. Four of the eight draft picks got cut.
- 20:04Speaker 2: That's unusual. The last four of the eight all got cut,
- 20:08Speaker 2: including the two seventh-round drafts Michael Dansby and Andre Fuller,
- 20:13Speaker 2: Devin Eastern, the nose tackle, their seventh-round pick, and Emmanuel
- 20:17Speaker 2: Henderson Jr. Henderson, I'm pretty much certain that he's going
- 20:21Speaker 2: to come back to the practice squad, unless for some
- 20:23Speaker 2: reason someone would claim him. The other reason teams don't
- 20:26Speaker 2: claim guys is because if you claim them, you have
- 20:27Speaker 2: to put them on your 53.
- 20:29Speaker 3: You do, yes.
- 20:30Speaker 2: So you can't just stow them on the practice squad.
- 20:32Speaker 4: That's actually a really good point that you should explain
- 20:34Speaker 4: to the listeners, too, because I think people forget about that.
- 20:38Speaker 2: Right, and that's why only 26 last year got claimed
- 20:41Speaker 2: around the league after cut day. Because you already have
- 20:44Speaker 2: 53 guys plus your practice squad guys that you've tied
- 20:47Speaker 2: all training camp with, so you know them really well.
- 20:49Speaker 2: And it's very rare that you're going to sign some
- 20:51Speaker 2: dude out of somebody else's program and put him right
- 20:54Speaker 2: into one of your 53 active roster spots who you
- 20:56Speaker 2: haven't even had in the building yet. Right. Now, the
- 20:59Speaker 2: Seahawks are doing that with Avery Smith, who they traded
- 21:01Speaker 2: with the Chargers for yesterday.
- 21:03Speaker 5: Why?
- 21:04Speaker 2: Well, they scouted the hell out of Smith at Toledo
- 21:06Speaker 2: because they were signing Max and Hook out of Toledo,
- 21:09Speaker 2: and they drafted Andre Fuller out of Toledo this year.
- 21:12Speaker 2: Hook was a two-year, second-year pro. But they were familiar
- 21:16Speaker 2: with Avery Smith's game. John Schneider said that Smith can
- 21:19Speaker 2: play inside at nickel and outside at outside corner, and
- 21:22Speaker 2: that he's played in schemes similar to McDonald's scheme, including
- 21:25Speaker 2: what the Chargers have been running. He was a standout
- 21:27Speaker 2: during the Chargers training camp. A lot of people were
- 21:29Speaker 2: surprised in L.A. that he got cut, or was going
- 21:32Speaker 2: to get cut, obviously. That's why the Chargers traded him
- 21:35Speaker 2: to the Seahawks. It's a sixth-round pick next year. The
- 21:37Speaker 2: Seahawks gave up for Avery Smith. So that's a lot
- 21:40Speaker 2: of ground to cover to explain all this. 49451. What
- 21:44Speaker 2: do you want to know about the Seahawks roster, the cuts,
- 21:46Speaker 2: why they did what they did, any questions you have,
- 21:47Speaker 2: how waivers work, all of it. Diggs, if anything I
- 21:51Speaker 2: didn't cover or you don't understand, put it down on
- 21:53Speaker 2: the text line and I'll answer it for sure.
- 21:55Speaker 3: And send in those talkbacks, please.
- 21:57Speaker 2: Because Jessamyn will play that back at 1130.
- 21:59Speaker 3: It's my favorite thing.
- 22:00Speaker 2: For sure. Up next, a whiplash weekend from Montori Foster Jr.
- 22:04Speaker 2: He was not happy when I talked to him. I
- 22:09Speaker 2: think he was afraid he was going to get cut
- 22:10Speaker 2: when I talked to him Friday night in Kansas City.
- 22:12Speaker 2: You'll hear from the surprise... of training camp, the star
- 22:15Speaker 2: of training camp, who made the Seahawks roster, the Ohio
- 22:18Speaker 2: High School substitute teacher, Montori Foster Jr., Seahawks wide receiver,
- 22:21Speaker 2: next on 93.3 KJRFM. We'll be right.
- 22:35Speaker 4: Back.
- 22:43Speaker 2: Hi, welcome back. Happy Monday to you, Greg Bell and
- 22:46Speaker 2: Jessamyn McIntyre on every weekday, 10 a.m. to noon on
- 22:49Speaker 2: 93.3 KJRFM before Ian Furness joins us from 12 until 3.
- 22:53Speaker 2: I think it's Molly Whop Monday.
- 22:54Speaker 15: Oh, boy.
- 22:56Speaker 2: Man.
- 22:56Speaker 3: Oh, it's going to get whopped. All the Molly's will
- 22:58Speaker 3: be whopped.
- 22:59Speaker 11: The Mariners.
- 23:01Speaker 2: Again, it's worth reiterating. The Mariners, to me, are a
- 23:05Speaker 2: example of talent devoid of leadership. And it has absolutely
- 23:09Speaker 2: wrecked their season. The lack of leadership. You just. The
- 23:14Speaker 2: stuff that happens on the field just should not ever happen.
- 23:18Speaker 2: When I covered ball, it's been 20 years now, guys
- 23:20Speaker 2: got fined for stuff that the Mariners are pulling off.
- 23:23Speaker 2: I don't think they do that anymore. The players' union
- 23:25Speaker 2: has stepped up and screamed about it because, you know,
- 23:27Speaker 2: the players don't have enough money to pay a $ 1, 000 fine.
- 23:30Speaker 2: But the manager should walk out and get the ball
- 23:33Speaker 2: from Bazzardo when the guy slides under his leg. I
- 23:36Speaker 2: don't care what your philosophy is about pitching. You should
- 23:39Speaker 2: not pitch a pitcher who's obviously hurt like Hancock was
- 23:42Speaker 2: on Friday night. They pitched him, what, three more innings
- 23:44Speaker 2: after he was hurt? Now guess what? He's on the
- 23:46Speaker 2: injured list. I mean, just stuff like that. Dan Wilson
- 23:53Speaker 2: is a puppet manager who's handpicked by a president who
- 23:57Speaker 2: wants first-time managers who won't have any old say and
- 23:59Speaker 2: will just press iPad buttons. I don't know how many
- 24:01Speaker 2: times we have to say it. That's the problem with
- 24:04Speaker 2: the Mariners. Everyone's saying, well, why didn't Dan Wilson do this?
- 24:07Speaker 2: He's not capable of that.
- 24:08Speaker 3: That's not his.
- 24:10Speaker 2: He was not hired to do anything. It appears he
- 24:13Speaker 2: was not hired to do anything independently. It was to
- 24:16Speaker 2: just push the iPad buttons that they feed down from
- 24:18Speaker 2: up high. But it was inexcusable what he did to
- 24:22Speaker 2: Hancock the other night. It was inexcusable not to take
- 24:24Speaker 2: the ball from Bazzardo before he even got back to
- 24:27Speaker 2: the mound after that second guy had crossed the plate
- 24:29Speaker 2: under his nose. That was ridiculous. I mean, in the
- 24:33Speaker 2: high school team I coached, I would have said, give
- 24:35Speaker 2: me the ball. You're done. You can do that. You
- 24:38Speaker 2: are absolutely allowed to do that. But nobody gets accountability
- 24:42Speaker 2: for anything that they do on the field in that club. Nothing.
- 24:46Speaker 2: It's unbelievable the lack of leadership from the Mariners. From
- 24:48Speaker 2: the top down into the clubhouse onto the field. How
- 24:53Speaker 2: the hell is a team that talented, nine games under. 500,
- 24:55Speaker 2: in one of the worst divisions in the history of
- 24:57Speaker 2: the sport? This is the most disappointing.
- 25:00Speaker 8: They're so talented.
- 25:02Speaker 2: They have the pitching staff. They have a core lineup
- 25:05Speaker 2: that should be just smoking mediocre under 500 teams, and
- 25:09Speaker 2: they can't do it. This is by far the most frustrating,
- 25:12Speaker 2: disappointing season in Mariners history, bar none. And we've lived
- 25:15Speaker 2: through 100 lost seasons in this town.
- 25:17Speaker 3: Let's talk about September, though. What if they get hot?
- 25:20Speaker 3: Which they have the capability to do, right?
- 25:23Speaker 8: I mean.
- 25:24Speaker 3: Okay, you know I'm Susie Sunshine over here.
- 25:27Speaker 2: Of course!
- 25:27Speaker 3: I'm the worst.
- 25:29Speaker 16: But.
- 25:30Speaker 3: What if they do? Because it's get in and then
- 25:34Speaker 3: we see, right? Everything starts over.
- 25:36Speaker 2: I hear you, Jessamyn. And the math still is that
- 25:39Speaker 2: they could get it covered. Yes, all of that's true.
- 25:42Speaker 2: But the facts are it's a bad baseball team that
- 25:46Speaker 2: plays poorly and is actually more games out with fewer
- 25:50Speaker 2: games to play than they were a week ago. They
- 25:52Speaker 2: were three games out with 30-some games to play. They're
- 25:54Speaker 2: five games out with 25 left. The math ain't massive.
- 25:58Speaker 3: No, it's really bad math.
- 25:59Speaker 2: Eventually, the math... What's my guy on the text line?
- 26:03Speaker 2: He gave it to me at the top of the
- 26:04Speaker 2: show here.
- 26:05Speaker 3: Oh, perfect.
- 26:06Speaker 2: 206. Greg, your weekly math update. The Mariners need to
- 26:09Speaker 2: play 9-20 ball to hit the POTO line. The depot
- 26:12Speaker 2: line is called 54%. How good does 54% look right now?
- 26:16Speaker 3: We would die for 54 right now.
- 26:17Speaker 2: They'd be the number two seed in the playoffs if
- 26:20Speaker 2: they were 54%.
- 26:21Speaker 4: That is what really sucks, too, because it's like we
- 26:24Speaker 4: have to, even though that was like the most dreaded
- 26:26Speaker 4: press conference of all time, we would kill for it.
- 26:31Speaker 2: The magic number is three losses to be eliminated from
- 26:34Speaker 2: the depot line. And then kaput for this year. No,
- 26:36Speaker 2: I do not suffer depoto derangement syndrome. Just utterly disappointed.
- 26:40Speaker 2: Just an utterly disappointed Mariners fan. And I get it.
- 26:42Speaker 2: 50 years in this town. No World Series. You get
- 26:46Speaker 2: within eight outs and you run it back with basically
- 26:48Speaker 2: the same team. And they absolutely pratfall. I mean, like trapdoor.
- 26:54Speaker 2: Pull the rug out with a hole in the floor.
- 26:56Speaker 2: Looney Tunes platform. This is just ridiculous.
- 26:59Speaker 3: You just gave me a really fun visual from my childhood.
- 27:01Speaker 2: Remember?
- 27:02Speaker 3: Thank you. Yes, I do.
- 27:03Speaker 2: Rugs over the floor. How many times has Sylvester the
- 27:06Speaker 2: Cat and Wile E. Coyote, those guys, always fell for
- 27:08Speaker 2: the same stupid tricks?
- 27:10Speaker 4: Well, I mean, just like paint a tunnel and everything,
- 27:12Speaker 4: but the Roadrunner gets to get through.
- 27:14Speaker 3: Maybe they can be the Roadrunner this time.
- 27:16Speaker 10: Maybe.
- 27:17Speaker 11: Maybe.
- 27:18Speaker 2: Let's talk about something more pleasant.
- 27:19Speaker 3: Let's do that.
- 27:20Speaker 2: Montori Foster Jr., making the Seahawks as a high school
- 27:24Speaker 2: substitute teacher. He was teaching during last season while the
- 27:27Speaker 2: Seahawks were rushing to the NFC West title. Montori Foster Jr.
- 27:31Speaker 2: was a high school substitute teacher at Lakewood St. Ed
- 27:34Speaker 2: High School just west of Cleveland where he played. He
- 27:37Speaker 2: was actually a high school basketball star where he played
- 27:40Speaker 2: only one year of high school football because he finally
- 27:43Speaker 2: got tired of his coach bugging him at his locker,
- 27:45Speaker 2: he told us. One year of high school football, he
- 27:48Speaker 2: got a scholarship to Michigan State, and now here he
- 27:50Speaker 2: is in the NFL. Well, Friday night, he is not
- 27:54Speaker 2: happy with how he played in the preseason finale. I
- 27:56Speaker 2: talked to him. This is Montori Foster in Kansas City
- 27:59Speaker 2: Friday night. So now that it's over, how did this
- 28:02Speaker 2: go for you? If you can look back on the
- 28:04Speaker 2: whole camp tonight and the whole camp.
- 28:06Speaker 10: Yeah, I felt like for me, I didn't end it
- 28:09Speaker 10: how I wanted to end it. Why not?
- 28:11Speaker 13: Just some plays.
- 28:12Speaker 10: I just hold myself to a high standard. I felt
- 28:14Speaker 10: like it wasn't up to my style of play. I
- 28:15Speaker 10: wanted to go out.
- 28:17Speaker 2: It was a Tennessee ball between your hands. You said what?
- 28:20Speaker 2: It was a Tennessee ball last week. I know you
- 28:22Speaker 2: thought it was a touchdown.
- 28:23Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 28:24Speaker 10: I'm talking about this game, tonight. I'm always focused on
- 28:28Speaker 10: the future. Not the future, but right now. It just
- 28:32Speaker 10: wasn't up to my standard today.
- 28:35Speaker 2: What impression do you think you've made overall in five
- 28:38Speaker 2: or six weeks?
- 28:39Speaker 13: I think a great impression.
- 28:40Speaker 10: Just continue to show up, be consistent, do whatever the
- 28:44Speaker 10: team needs me to do any time. I feel like
- 28:46Speaker 10: I showed that, and, you know, I can live with
- 28:50Speaker 10: all the results after that for sure.
- 28:52Speaker 2: How new record do you think the next 48 hours
- 28:54Speaker 2: is going to be for you? It's going to be crazy, man.
- 28:57Speaker 10: I have no idea what's going to happen, but, you know,
- 29:00Speaker 10: It's all God's plan, so I'm just excited for the future.
- 29:03Speaker 2: How does this environment welcome a guy like you who got.
- 29:07Speaker 13: Here just last year, late in the season?
- 29:10Speaker 2: How welcome do.
- 29:11Speaker 14: You feel here?
- 29:12Speaker 10: I feel very welcome. There's definitely a family atmosphere here.
- 29:15Speaker 10: A lot of guys are awesome, man, especially the wide
- 29:18Speaker 10: receiver room. I love every single one of those guys, man.
- 29:22Speaker 2: They are great.
- 29:23Speaker 10: And it's just been a blessing just to be around
- 29:26Speaker 10: those guys and learn a lot from the vets too
- 29:28Speaker 10: as well.
- 29:28Speaker 13: So it's been a great experience.
- 29:30Speaker 2: Thank you, sir. Good luck to you. Thank you. Wide
- 29:34Speaker 2: receiver Montori Foster Jr. made the team yesterday after that interview.
- 29:38Speaker 2: He was sweating it. He really was. until 3 o'clock yesterday,
- 29:41Speaker 2: the cut-down time. Okay, why was I whispering, you might
- 29:44Speaker 2: want to know? Well, around him were two guys that
- 29:47Speaker 2: I knew were going to get cut. So I was
- 29:50Speaker 2: trying to have a little grace and not just chirping
- 29:53Speaker 2: and patting him on the back and saying, congratulations, you're
- 29:55Speaker 2: going to make the team. I know you are. Because
- 29:57Speaker 2: the two dudes next to him were watching me. In
- 30:00Speaker 2: the locker room when 90 players are in a 53-man
- 30:02Speaker 2: locker room, it's crowded. And you're stepping over dudes. So
- 30:06Speaker 2: I didn't want them to hear.
- 30:07Speaker 11: Wait, wait.
- 30:09Speaker 3: 37 guys without a job.
- 30:10Speaker 2: Exactly. And I've learned over the years that that particular
- 30:14Speaker 2: locker room after the final preseason game is a very
- 30:17Speaker 2: touchy one. It's a very.
- 30:19Speaker 2: It's different. And it's a lot of dudes with heads
- 30:23Speaker 2: down knowing they just played what might be their last
- 30:25Speaker 2: time ever being in an NFL uniform. So I was
- 30:28Speaker 2: trying to be mindful of that, which is why it
- 30:29Speaker 2: came off as me whispering. He smiled when I asked
- 30:33Speaker 2: him what impression you think he made. And he knew
- 30:36Speaker 2: he had made a great impression. He didn't know if
- 30:38Speaker 2: it was enough, but he knew it was a great impression.
- 30:40Speaker 2: Yesterday it was enough. I caught his eye as he
- 30:43Speaker 2: was walking onto the practice field to begin warming up, stretching,
- 30:46Speaker 2: and he gave me a smile. I didn't need to
- 30:49Speaker 2: talk to him.
- 30:49Speaker 3: Isn't that great? Isn't that great? There's these moments.
- 30:52Speaker 4: I'm so glad that you're letting people into these moments
- 30:55Speaker 4: because so few people actually get to experience that. And
- 30:59Speaker 4: you describing it actually lets you inside of it.
- 31:03Speaker 3: And so I appreciate that.
- 31:05Speaker 2: You're welcome. Again, he knows my. nephews went to Lakewood St.
- 31:09Speaker 18: Ann.
- 31:09Speaker 2: He knows, I know the football coach there. I don't
- 31:11Speaker 2: know him personally, but I know who he is. And I,
- 31:13Speaker 2: my nephew played for him and blah, blah, blah. So
- 31:17Speaker 2: we've talked about that. So when I walked over to
- 31:19Speaker 2: him in Kansas city, he smiled. He knew he recognized
- 31:21Speaker 2: me by face and he remembered he was on our
- 31:23Speaker 2: show and whatnot, but he was a surprise of camp.
- 31:27Speaker 2: When we came into camp, nobody thought Montori Foster was
- 31:29Speaker 2: going to be on the field. I mean, nobody, including
- 31:31Speaker 2: the coaches and Frisman Jackson, the wide receiver coach was
- 31:34Speaker 2: just blown away. He forced his way onto the team.
- 31:38Speaker 2: Other surprises. Julian Neal made the 53, and it looked
- 31:40Speaker 2: like for a long time the rookie third-round pick would
- 31:42Speaker 2: start on the injured reserve list. John Schneider, I keep
- 31:46Speaker 2: saying Mike McDonald because that's who I talk to all
- 31:48Speaker 2: the time about this stuff. Yesterday it was John Schneider
- 31:50Speaker 2: who said he had a quadriceps injury. It was a
- 31:52Speaker 2: leg injury. We didn't know what it was. It was
- 31:54Speaker 2: a quad, the GM said. But Neal made the 53.
- 31:57Speaker 2: They are thin at safety. They have only three on
- 32:01Speaker 2: the active roster with Love. They Love and Okada are
- 32:08Speaker 2: going to be the starters. Nicky Manwari is technically listed
- 32:11Speaker 2: as a safety, though, of course, he plays hybrid linebacker
- 32:13Speaker 2: most times. So Neal is needed as a corner who
- 32:18Speaker 2: can also play safety. He's more of a versatile guy.
- 32:21Speaker 2: He's listed as a cornerback, but he played safety in
- 32:23Speaker 2: his college career. I haven't seen him much at all
- 32:25Speaker 2: in the last three weeks because he hasn't been on
- 32:26Speaker 2: the field, but when he was on early in camp,
- 32:28Speaker 2: he was at corner. What else? The Seahawks cutting four
- 32:33Speaker 2: of their eight draft picks were a surprise because that's
- 32:35Speaker 2: a lot. But it also speaks to his roster being
- 32:37Speaker 2: a Super Bowl champion roster that brought it back with
- 32:40Speaker 2: 20 of 22 starters and 48 of 53 from last
- 32:43Speaker 2: year on the team. So not a lot of room
- 32:46Speaker 2: for those guys. That's what the expanded practice squad rules help. Okay,
- 32:49Speaker 2: the practice squad. You can have up to 17 players
- 32:52Speaker 2: in the Seahawks case because Federico Moranjas is a Puerto
- 32:55Speaker 2: Rican player, a native of Puerto Rico, who gets to
- 32:58Speaker 2: be a part of the international program the NFL has.
- 33:00Speaker 2: So you get a roster exemption for him. 17 on
- 33:03Speaker 2: the practice squad. Up to six can be vested veterans,
- 33:07Speaker 2: which is why I think six of the eight they
- 33:09Speaker 2: cut yesterday will come back, including Noah Igbenogany, the former
- 33:13Speaker 2: starting nickelback for Dan Quinn in Washington. They need another nickelback.
- 33:18Speaker 2: That's why they traded for Avery Smith yesterday with the Chargers.
- 33:22Speaker 2: But I would expect Igbenogany today to sign with the
- 33:25Speaker 2: practice squad. That may be announced today or tomorrow. I
- 33:28Speaker 2: hope so.
- 33:28Speaker 3: I like him.
- 33:29Speaker 4: You had a really good conversation with him too.
- 33:31Speaker 2: We did. And I think he fits these guys for
- 33:34Speaker 2: what they need. Now, the coaches thought he was a
- 33:37Speaker 2: little bit of a feast or famine player who high risk,
- 33:40Speaker 2: high reward, who missed tackles and missed some assignments, but
- 33:42Speaker 2: also made some big plays. They like to even that
- 33:45Speaker 2: out a little bit and not be so feast or famine-y.
- 33:48Speaker 2: Because if you give up big plays in the secondary,
- 33:50Speaker 2: it's a touchdown, right?
- 33:51Speaker 4: Well, I mean, that's learning the playbook, you know, and
- 33:54Speaker 4: actually sticking to your assignment. And I think that can
- 33:56Speaker 4: be taught if he has the talent. then he can
- 33:59Speaker 4: be taught how to follow.
- 34:01Speaker 2: The rules, if you will. So 253, we're going to
- 34:06Speaker 2: the text line just because it's in the middle of
- 34:07Speaker 2: a conversation here. 253 says, didn't he join the practice squad,
- 34:11Speaker 2: meaning Foster, in week 16 last year? No, it was
- 34:14Speaker 2: maybe a 16, whatever December 30th is. No need for
- 34:18Speaker 2: hyperbole unless you consider the march to the NFL championship
- 34:21Speaker 2: was before week 16. I don't know how much hyperbole
- 34:25Speaker 2: you could say about a guy who was a high
- 34:26Speaker 2: school teacher during college. 90% of the regular season last year.
- 34:31Speaker 2: I don't, that's a fact. I'm not trying to be hyperbolic.
- 34:34Speaker 3: That's not hyperbolic.
- 34:35Speaker 2: I'm not being hyperbolic. He was, he was in a
- 34:38Speaker 2: gym in Cleveland during the NFL season. And on December 30th,
- 34:41Speaker 2: when most guys have packed it up and say the
- 34:43Speaker 2: season's over is when the Seahawks called and say, Hey,
- 34:45Speaker 2: can you come back? Are you healthy now? And he said, sure.
- 34:49Speaker 3: I mean, he said it with his own mouth to us. Like,
- 34:52Speaker 3: it's not like you're making something up.
- 34:55Speaker 2: He went to go get a real estate license. Dudes
- 34:57Speaker 2: who think they're playing aren't going to go get a
- 34:58Speaker 2: real estate license.
- 34:59Speaker 3: And go to high school teaching.
- 35:02Speaker 2: I'm trying not to be hyperbolic here. I'm just trying
- 35:04Speaker 2: to be stating what the facts were.
- 35:06Speaker 3: I'm No, you're not. Don't be defensive.
- 35:09Speaker 4: That person didn't understand how well you know his story.
- 35:13Speaker 2: It is unusual that a guy was teaching high school
- 35:16Speaker 2: last year and has now made the team the following summer.
- 35:18Speaker 4: It is.
- 35:19Speaker 3: It's a great story.
- 35:20Speaker 2: I've covered the league for 25 years, and I don't
- 35:22Speaker 2: remember any other time of a player doing that. John
- 35:26Speaker 2: Schneider yesterday said, you're going to hear at 11 o'clock
- 35:29Speaker 2: his comments in full. He said, I don't think I've
- 35:31Speaker 2: ever seen a wide receiver improve that much in a
- 35:34Speaker 2: short amount of time as Montori Foster. And that's a
- 35:37Speaker 2: general manager who's been in the league 17 years and
- 35:39Speaker 2: saw Foster at the beginning of training camp last year
- 35:41Speaker 2: when he cut him. They didn't see any of this
- 35:43Speaker 2: last year, making one-handed catches and turning around starting cornerbacks.
- 35:47Speaker 2: And by the end of camp, Montori Foster went from
- 35:51Speaker 2: an afterthought to catching passes from Sam Darnold in the
- 35:54Speaker 2: first team offense. That's how meteoric his rise was. It's
- 35:58Speaker 2: better than teaching Latin and Lakewood St. Edward High School
- 36:01Speaker 2: from last year. He said he didn't even know Latin.
- 36:03Speaker 3: No shade to Latin or anything.
- 36:04Speaker 2: No, he said he didn't even know Latin. He said,
- 36:06Speaker 2: I just said, okay, don't get in trouble. Whatever your
- 36:09Speaker 2: sign was, do it. Don't get in trouble. And we'll
- 36:12Speaker 2: be done in 45 minutes. He couldn't teach Latin. He
- 36:14Speaker 2: didn't know Latin. Oh, boy. 425, are they going to
- 36:18Speaker 2: sign Bell back? Yes. As I said at the top
- 36:19Speaker 2: of the show, DeAnthony Bell, the safety, who had been
- 36:22Speaker 2: a on the first-team defense for part of training camp,
- 36:24Speaker 2: I think is going to come back to the practice squad.
- 36:25Speaker 2: That'll probably be finalized today, maybe announced tomorrow or the
- 36:28Speaker 2: next day. The Seahawks are off for the next three days.
- 36:31Speaker 2: It's mandatory by the CBA that teams get three days
- 36:33Speaker 2: off at the end of the preseason. It's usually the
- 36:36Speaker 2: Labor Day weekend, but the Seahawks' Labor Day weekend is
- 36:38Speaker 2: going to be a work weekend. How it's working this week,
- 36:40Speaker 2: Seahawks off today, tomorrow, and Wednesday. I mean, players gone,
- 36:43Speaker 2: gone fishing. And then Thursday, they come back to practice,
- 36:46Speaker 2: as if that's a Monday. Friday would be like a
- 36:49Speaker 2: normal Tuesday. Saturday, full-scale practice, press conferences, the whole bit,
- 36:55Speaker 2: as if Saturday was a Wednesday. Sunday will be like
- 36:57Speaker 2: a Thursday of game week.
- 36:59Speaker 3: Oh, my gosh, this whole thing again.
- 37:00Speaker 2: And Monday will be like a Friday.
- 37:02Speaker 3: I don't even know what day it is. The Apple
- 37:04Speaker 3: Cup's on a Sunday.
- 37:05Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 37:05Speaker 19: Yeah.
- 37:06Speaker 2: So the Seahawks are going to be fully practicing on
- 37:08Speaker 2: Labor Day weekend, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, Labor Day. And
- 37:11Speaker 2: then on Tuesday, they're off because the game is on Wednesday.
- 37:14Speaker 2: That's why they're backloading and having three days off this week.
- 37:17Speaker 2: I threw a lot at you there.
- 37:18Speaker 3: That's just too much.
- 37:19Speaker 2: I know. My Labor Day weekend will be at a
- 37:22Speaker 2: training camp. And September 7th, Labor Day Monday, is when
- 37:25Speaker 2: Factor Fiction begins. Your chance to be a winner and
- 37:29Speaker 2: guess along with us on college and pro sports. Take
- 37:31Speaker 2: Army in the Under. That's my inside tip. Up next,
- 37:34Speaker 2: Coach Mike McDonald. What he said about the preseason finale,
- 37:38Speaker 2: about Jalen Milrow. But most of all, what he said
- 37:40Speaker 2: about the starters and their readiness for the opener after
- 37:42Speaker 2: not playing a lick at all this preseason. That's next
- 37:45Speaker 2: on 93.3 KJRFM. Welcome back. Reg Bell, Jesse McIntyre. And
- 38:15Speaker 2: I had to go out. I just saw Anderson Hurst
- 38:18Speaker 2: drop in. So I had to open the door and say,
- 38:20Speaker 2: wait a minute. Are you okay? Because this morning, Lionel
- 38:24Speaker 2: Messi announced he is retiring from international soccer.
- 38:26Speaker 3: Oh, it's not if he's okay.
- 38:28Speaker 2: It's if his wife is okay. I asked that too, Jesse.
- 38:32Speaker 2: Is your Argentinian wife okay?
- 38:36Speaker 20: Play you know another world cup or even really much
- 38:38Speaker 20: more for argentina but he gave us enough happiness as
- 38:41Speaker 20: it is and he deserves to be this family now so.
- 38:44Speaker 2: You know messy retiring at age 39 from international soccer
- 38:47Speaker 2: he's still with fc miami or whatever they call it
- 38:49Speaker 2: inter miami for the mls or all stars go to
- 38:52Speaker 2: play out the pasture oh good to see him good
- 38:55Speaker 2: to see him smiling because i didn't know if he
- 38:57Speaker 2: was you know that's.
- 38:58Speaker 3: That's a shock yeah he's been in a cheery mood
- 39:00Speaker 3: today that's a.
- 39:01Speaker 2: Shock Mike McDonald was in a pretty good mood Friday
- 39:05Speaker 2: night in Kansas City. He didn't really care whether it
- 39:07Speaker 2: was a 9-9 tie or whatever. He didn't care that
- 39:10Speaker 2: the Seahawks, I mean, he cared. He wants them to
- 39:12Speaker 2: win every time they play.
- 39:13Speaker 3: Of course.
- 39:14Speaker 2: But 0-2-1 in the preseason doesn't bother him that much either.
- 39:17Speaker 3: I think he saw what he needed to see.
- 39:19Speaker 2: What he didn't see were his starters playing. They didn't
- 39:21Speaker 2: play a lick. They will not have played from the
- 39:23Speaker 2: Super Bowl until February the 8th, or February the 8th
- 39:26Speaker 2: was the last time they played, until September the 9th
- 39:28Speaker 2: when they played. the opener against the Patriots at Lumen Field.
- 39:32Speaker 2: This was Mike McDonald and his thoughts on Jalen Milrow,
- 39:35Speaker 2: what his starters readiness is, and more from Kansas City
- 39:37Speaker 2: after the final preseason game.
- 39:39Speaker 16: All right.
- 39:42Speaker 21: It would have been great to close it out with
- 39:44Speaker 21: a win, but I just told our team that just
- 39:49Speaker 21: the body of work that they've been able to put
- 39:50Speaker 21: together up to this point is, um, just, uh, tip
- 39:54Speaker 21: my cap to, to our guys, our team, our coaches,
- 39:56Speaker 21: our staff. Uh, you know, if you, if you, if
- 40:01Speaker 21: you trust the, uh, the work that we've, that I've
- 40:04Speaker 21: seen our, our team do and put in and the,
- 40:06Speaker 21: and the practices we've stacked together and the off season
- 40:08Speaker 21: that they've done. And then you trust the people involved,
- 40:11Speaker 21: which we do. Um, I think we're in a great
- 40:13Speaker 21: place going into the season. Um, but we're not, we're not, uh,
- 40:17Speaker 21: that's not, Some of those things aren't showing in the
- 40:19Speaker 21: preseason games, which I understand, and we'll attack those things.
- 40:23Speaker 21: But overall, I'm very pleased with our effort, the spirit
- 40:28Speaker 21: of our team, our leadership on our team. It'll be
- 40:33Speaker 21: an interesting couple days here as we figure out how
- 40:38Speaker 21: we're going to start the season, but I'm excited to
- 40:41Speaker 21: get going and start working on our week one process.
- 40:49Speaker 13: Well, he's really come up to speed, which is, which is,
- 40:51Speaker 13: which is, um, saying something.
- 40:53Speaker 21: And I think our, our players have done a great
- 40:55Speaker 21: job of, of coaching them up and you hear him
- 40:58Speaker 21: in walkthroughs, our guys, you know, coach them up play
- 41:00Speaker 21: to play and he knows ball. Like all it is
- 41:02Speaker 21: is just kind of connecting dots and, you know, connecting
- 41:05Speaker 21: some of that, all the things that he's heard to
- 41:08Speaker 21: get to the, to the new techniques and the new
- 41:10Speaker 21: words and stuff. So, um, did some great things today.
- 41:12Speaker 21: Obviously having the interception was, uh, It was pretty awesome. But, yeah,
- 41:17Speaker 21: I've been really impressed since he got here.
- 41:19Speaker 14: How viable is it he's a big one-cat person?
- 41:22Speaker 2: Viable.
- 41:24Speaker 14: He was only out there for a little bit of time.
- 41:26Speaker 22: Had you seen what you wanted to see out of
- 41:28Speaker 22: him on that drive?
- 41:29Speaker 21: Yeah, I think he had three drives, and so that
- 41:32Speaker 21: was about almost a quarter, which we had budgeted going in,
- 41:36Speaker 21: and our coaches felt good about it, so we decided
- 41:38Speaker 21: to move on to the next crew.
- 41:41Speaker 23: What were you hoping to see out of this game
- 41:43Speaker 23: from people who were trying to.
- 41:45Speaker 3: Earn a roster spot?
- 41:46Speaker 13: A lot of the things that.
- 41:52Speaker 21: I have not worded this answer well. I saw a
- 41:55Speaker 21: lot of great things out of a lot of guys.
- 41:58Speaker 21: A lot of great effort plays. A lot of great
- 42:00Speaker 21: situational stands defensively. Offensively, it was a sloppy game. Straight up,
- 42:06Speaker 21: you have that many penalties.
- 42:07Speaker 13: It's just.
- 42:09Speaker 21: This is the way it goes, really choppy, but in
- 42:11Speaker 21: some of those series, being able to overcome those things
- 42:13Speaker 21: and working through it and staying poised, things like that.
- 42:16Speaker 2: That was Mike McDonald in Kansas City on Friday night.
- 42:21Speaker 2: Myself and Ari Horton, the Seahawks.com reporter, asking the questions
- 42:25Speaker 2: because we were the only two there from Seattle.
- 42:28Speaker 3: I know. Look at you, insider.
- 42:30Speaker 2: Well, they just blow it off. Bob Condotta of Seattle
- 42:33Speaker 2: Times was in Atlanta covering the owner's incident. vote on Wednesday.
- 42:37Speaker 4: That was a pretty big one, too.
- 42:40Speaker 2: We're going to talk about the owners. There was something
- 42:42Speaker 2: that John Schneider mentioned yesterday that I asked him about,
- 42:45Speaker 2: about the Kozloff family taking over. There were two points
- 42:48Speaker 2: that he talked about that got overlooked in the reporting
- 42:50Speaker 2: of what Schneider said. You're going to hear Schneider at
- 42:53Speaker 2: 11 o'clock. You're going to hear what he said about
- 42:55Speaker 2: the Kozloff family, and you're going to hear about what
- 42:57Speaker 2: immediate change they're going to make to the operations, soup
- 43:00Speaker 2: to nuts, as they say, of the Seahawks. And I
- 43:03Speaker 2: don't know if you're in favor of this or not,
- 43:05Speaker 2: but it's coming. You'll hear that next from John Schneider
- 43:08Speaker 2: of Seahawks GDM on 93.3 KJRFM. Good morning. Happy Monday.
- 43:29Speaker 2: You'll hear from Seahawks General Manager John Schneider after headlines.
- 43:32Speaker 2: Brought to you by Frostbrood Coors Light. Choose chill. Schneider
- 43:34Speaker 2: Seahawks cuts 91 players to 53. Set the initial accent
- 43:39Speaker 2: on initial roster for the regular season. It's going to
- 43:41Speaker 2: change from waiver pickups, free agent signings, and whatnot. Traded
- 43:46Speaker 2: with the Chargers to get Avery Smith from Toledo, a
- 43:48Speaker 2: quarterback who can play inside, nickel, and outside. He's an
- 43:51Speaker 2: undrafted rookie who starred in the Chargers preseason. The Seahawks
- 43:55Speaker 2: gave the Chargers a sixth-round draft pick for him. Montori
- 43:57Speaker 2: Foster Jr., the Ohio High School substitute teacher we talked
- 44:01Speaker 2: to way back in July. He made it at wide receiver.
- 44:04Speaker 3: 87, remember the number.
- 44:05Speaker 2: 87, that's right. He'll be 87 and blue on opening
- 44:09Speaker 2: night September 9th against the New England Patriots. Trevon Diggs
- 44:12Speaker 2: did not make it, got cut. He doesn't have to
- 44:14Speaker 2: go through waivers as a vested veteran. GM John Schneider
- 44:17Speaker 2: says he'd intend to sign the former Dallas Cowboys all-port
- 44:20Speaker 2: cornerback to the practice squad. Cody White's probably going to
- 44:22Speaker 2: get the same treatment. Patrick O'Connell made it fourth year
- 44:25Speaker 2: out of Montana, first time making an NFL roster. He's
- 44:27Speaker 2: the backup middle linebacker to Ernest Jones. Seahawks finally signed
- 44:31Speaker 2: Terran Arnold, and then the NFL did what they told
- 44:33Speaker 2: the Seahawks they'd do. They put him on the commissioner's
- 44:35Speaker 2: exempt list. Cannot practice, cannot play while he's on it.
- 44:39Speaker 2: Next court date is October 4th, 5th, in Tampa, Florida.
- 44:43Speaker 2: For eight felony charges, possible life in prison for Terryon Arnold.
- 44:47Speaker 2: The Seahawks think he may, outside chance, get to play
- 44:49Speaker 2: late this season. But by signing him now, they own
- 44:52Speaker 2: the rights to him for next season. That's the bigger,
- 44:55Speaker 2: long play there. Aaron Donald came out of retirement after
- 44:58Speaker 2: two years away. The 35-year-old all-world defensive tackle signs a one-year,
- 45:01Speaker 2: $ 20 million deal with the Rams. Doing exactly what he
- 45:04Speaker 2: said he'd do. Blow off all the preseason in the
- 45:06Speaker 2: training camp and then sign when it got real. He's
- 45:08Speaker 2: kind of earned it. I think so. Rams open September 10th.
- 45:12Speaker 2: Against the 49ers in Australia, that's, of course, the day
- 45:14Speaker 2: after the Seahawks and Patriots opened the NFL season. Giants
- 45:17Speaker 2: kept Odell Beckham. Titans cut former starting quarterback Will Levis.
- 45:21Speaker 2: Four teams kept four quarterbacks, Steelers, Vikings, Browns, and Eagles.
- 45:25Speaker 2: You notice I haven't talked about the Mariners yet on
- 45:27Speaker 2: this headline. You know what?
- 45:28Speaker 3: It's okay.
- 45:29Speaker 2: Are they sinking again or are they sunk? 4-9-4-5-1. I
- 45:33Speaker 2: think they're sunk and they stunk. Lost three in a
- 45:35Speaker 2: row in Toronto, including 7-0 yesterday to a 75-year-old pitcher
- 45:39Speaker 2: who had a 6 ERA. Max Scherzer. One hit. One frickin' hit.
- 45:45Speaker 2: They struck out 15 times yesterday and had one hit.
- 45:48Speaker 2: Not a banner day. They did have more hits than urgency, though.
- 45:53Speaker 3: There you go. Look at you. Silver linings, Greg.
- 45:58Speaker 2: Yeah, that's me. Mariners are a season-low tying, nine games under. 500,
- 46:02Speaker 2: five games out. Now they're headed to Boston. George Kirby
- 46:06Speaker 2: starting against a 6'6 left-hander who throws 99 miles an
- 46:09Speaker 2: hour for Boston. How's that going to go? Sparks beat
- 46:13Speaker 2: the Storm, 90-74. Stormer, 8-32 in the WNBA. Curacao beat
- 46:16Speaker 2: Nevada to win the Little League World Series. Novak Jokovic,
- 46:20Speaker 2: 39 years old, lost in the first round of a
- 46:21Speaker 2: Grand Slam tennis tournament for the first time in 20
- 46:23Speaker 2: years last night at the U.S.
- 46:24Speaker 25: Open.
- 46:26Speaker 2: Yesterday... John Schneider spoke to the local Seahawks beat writers for,
- 46:31Speaker 2: I think, one of three times this season. One time's
- 46:34Speaker 2: at the Combine in Indianapolis. One time's here, and one
- 46:37Speaker 2: time's at the league meetings.
- 46:39Speaker 3: He's just not in front of the mic all the time.
- 46:42Speaker 3: He's got jobs.
- 46:45Speaker 2: Okay.
- 46:48Speaker 13: Okay.
- 46:50Speaker 2: Well, it was somewhat informative. This is what he said
- 46:53Speaker 2: about Terryon Arnold. He tells him why he signed it.
- 46:55Speaker 2: The Seahawk legend who told him to sign Terryon Arnold.
- 46:59Speaker 2: He explains the Trevon Diggs situation. And he explains the
- 47:02Speaker 2: new ownership of the Kozlas. I thought there was some
- 47:04Speaker 2: interesting comments here we'll talk about after you hear from
- 47:06Speaker 2: John Schneider on 93.3 KJR.
- 47:09Speaker 13: Thanks for coming out. Just, you know, shout out to
- 47:12Speaker 13: the staff upstairs, all the personnel people, all the coaches,
- 47:15Speaker 13: everybody working through everything. As we work to... establish our 70.
- 47:21Speaker 13: As you guys know, we don't refer to it as
- 47:22Speaker 13: our 53 or to make the team or to not
- 47:25Speaker 13: make the team, all that kind of stuff. Yeah, Armani
- 47:31Speaker 13: and his staff and Willie and Matt Berry and Aaron
- 47:36Speaker 13: and everybody upstairs just did a great job. And a
- 47:40Speaker 13: special shout out to Carter and Tess, our interns that
- 47:45Speaker 13: have to go end up grabbing the guys and that
- 47:49Speaker 13: like three minute walk of silence that is like, I've
- 47:52Speaker 13: been there. It's not fun. So, um, yeah, three minutes
- 47:56Speaker 13: full of anxiety and quietness. So, uh, yeah, just excited to, um,
- 48:01Speaker 13: continue this tonight as we get into, um, you know,
- 48:04Speaker 13: the waiver wire coming out this evening and, uh, establishing
- 48:08Speaker 13: our practice squad while our initial practice squad, uh, tomorrow
- 48:11Speaker 13: and a lot of moving parts, as you guys well know,
- 48:13Speaker 13: over the next, um, especially I'd say two weeks as
- 48:17Speaker 13: we kind of figure out, um, what the landscape looks
- 48:20Speaker 13: like for our team as well as the rest of
- 48:22Speaker 13: the National Football League as we prepare for the 2026
- 48:28Speaker 13: regular season. With that, I'll take your questions.
- 48:32Speaker 2: You mentioned the 70. Sorry, you're with.
- 48:36Speaker 13: How's it going, John?
- 48:38Speaker 15: How much are some of these decisions you have to
- 48:39Speaker 15: make today part of looking ahead to tomorrow?
- 48:43Speaker 13: It's very much having the six veterans on the practice
- 48:50Speaker 13: squad has enabled us to not expose certain, certain players
- 48:53Speaker 13: to the waiver wire. And, uh, yeah, it's a strategy
- 48:57Speaker 13: for the, the initial 53 cut. And then as well as,
- 49:02Speaker 13: you know, what we're going to look like in the
- 49:04Speaker 13: middle of October and then trying to be as strong
- 49:06Speaker 13: as we possibly can and as deep as we possibly can, uh,
- 49:10Speaker 13: with a combination of older and younger players, uh, down
- 49:13Speaker 13: the stretch, you know.
- 49:14Speaker 18: Um.
- 49:16Speaker 13: Uh end of november december january hopefully february.
- 49:20Speaker 26: How much do the like relationship with agents and prior
- 49:24Speaker 26: like proof of doing that help you you know negotiate
- 49:26Speaker 26: those kind of agreements with with the.
- 49:28Speaker 13: Vets yeah definitely has to be a level of trust
- 49:30Speaker 13: absolutely and uh you know we had to pick up
- 49:34Speaker 13: some of those relationships with nolan and trent taking off
- 49:36Speaker 13: so um yeah no but uh Yeah, definitely. It's definitely
- 49:42Speaker 13: a relationship-based business, especially with the agents. They've been through
- 49:47Speaker 13: this with us before, as well as some of the
- 49:49Speaker 13: players that you guys have seen be elevated, practice squad, 53, whatever,
- 49:55Speaker 13: kind of moving around. I know that, I think, I
- 50:00Speaker 13: don't know, we have to be in the area of
- 50:02Speaker 13: leading the league in terms of transactions, whether it be, well,
- 50:06Speaker 13: I know in the preseason we had the third most
- 50:08Speaker 13: tryouts But in terms of just transactions, whether that's practice squad, movements, elevations,
- 50:19Speaker 13: 53 movement, we've always been a high volume personnel group.
- 50:26Speaker 13: And that's a tribute. It's always been a tribute to
- 50:28Speaker 13: our coaching staff to be open minded to that, to
- 50:30Speaker 13: be able to provide as much depth as we possibly
- 50:33Speaker 13: can for them.
- 50:34Speaker 14: Trevon Diggs, is that kind of the plan with.
- 50:36Speaker 13: Him to try to get him back off obviously? Yes. Yep.
- 50:40Speaker 14: Do you already agree to the practice squad, John?
- 50:43Speaker 13: I can't agree to practice squads until tomorrow.
- 50:47Speaker 14: Is it an acclimation thing for him, only being with
- 50:49Speaker 14: the team?
- 50:50Speaker 13: Yeah, I mean, he came in a little bit late,
- 50:51Speaker 13: and he's kind of just getting going. He's kind of
- 50:54Speaker 13: just getting ramped up, as you saw the other night,
- 50:56Speaker 13: just getting his legs under him. But he's confident, and
- 51:01Speaker 13: we're excited to get him going and see how far
- 51:04Speaker 13: he can take this thing. He's really bought into the
- 51:06Speaker 13: culture and the guys and the staff and, you know,
- 51:09Speaker 13: carl and and uh nico and those guys so it's
- 51:12Speaker 13: been pretty cool to pretty cool to see he's.
- 51:14Speaker 5: A great guy phenomenal preseason i mean uh shoot outside
- 51:21Speaker 5: nickel as you know has played in our defense now
- 51:24Speaker 5: um coming out we liked him as a smart tough
- 51:27Speaker 5: reliable guy uh very.
- 51:29Speaker 13: Instinctive um yeah he's just uh you know they couldn't
- 51:33Speaker 13: speak more highly of him and and uh They had
- 51:37Speaker 13: a really nice defensive backfield. They did a really nice
- 51:41Speaker 13: job in the offseason, and they felt like this was
- 51:44Speaker 13: an opportunity. I'm glad they were willing to do it. So, yeah,
- 51:48Speaker 13: we'll be adding him and get him in the mix,
- 51:50Speaker 13: another young guy that, like I said, could play some
- 51:52Speaker 13: nickel on the outside, and then we'll see what he
- 51:55Speaker 13: can do on teams.
- 51:57Speaker 2: With Terry and Arnold, do you have any idea of
- 51:58Speaker 2: kind of the time frame for him or now that
- 52:00Speaker 2: he's on.
- 52:01Speaker 13: That jump list?
- 52:02Speaker 12: No.
- 52:02Speaker 13: No, that's up to the commissioner.
- 52:05Speaker 14: How much was the fact that you couldn't retain his
- 52:08Speaker 14: rights next year as a restricted or exclusive rights because
- 52:12Speaker 14: of his tenure in the league a factor.
- 52:13Speaker 2: In signing him now?
- 52:15Speaker 13: Yeah I mean the whole there's there's a ton of
- 52:17Speaker 13: different factors that went into it obviously the legal stuff
- 52:20Speaker 13: has to take care of itself and we totally respect
- 52:22Speaker 13: that we there's like you know tons of different buckets
- 52:26Speaker 13: to this situation and you know, just the advocates that
- 52:31Speaker 13: he had, you know, we had traded for Leon Washington
- 52:33Speaker 13: the first year we were here and, and, uh, he's
- 52:36Speaker 13: basically like his father. And so, you know, Leon's always,
- 52:40Speaker 13: he'll always be a legend here and, you know, has
- 52:42Speaker 13: a great relationship with the, you know, with, with the
- 52:45Speaker 13: organization and, and, um, you know, the, the, the character just,
- 52:50Speaker 13: you know, it just didn't really fit with the allegations
- 52:54Speaker 13: and everybody we've talked to. So, um, But yes, there's
- 52:59Speaker 13: a long-term play. This isn't like, let's see how quickly
- 53:02Speaker 13: we can get this done. Let's get him in the
- 53:05Speaker 13: building and see how it goes.
- 53:07Speaker 27: Do you anticipate him being around you guys here starting
- 53:10Speaker 27: now and everything?
- 53:11Speaker 13: Yeah, absolutely. He can't practice, but he can be in
- 53:14Speaker 13: meetings and train.
- 53:15Speaker 26: Was there any consideration with Torrey Horton going on IR
- 53:20Speaker 26: at all and any consideration of taking Zach Charbonnet off PUP?
- 53:25Speaker 13: No and no. Yeah, so Torrey... No, it wasn't going
- 53:29Speaker 13: on IR, and Sharps is always going to go on PUP.
- 53:34Speaker 13: Is that how you asked it? Yeah. Yeah.
- 53:36Speaker 26: Nick, even Worry, similarly, like, still feel like there's potential
- 53:40Speaker 26: that he might be available week one, or is that
- 53:43Speaker 26: still just to be determined?
- 53:43Speaker 13: Yeah, we'll see how that goes. We'll see what kind
- 53:46Speaker 13: of progress he continues to make.
- 53:47Speaker 2: It's a good call, though.
- 53:48Speaker 13: I watch Mike's press conferences, too.
- 53:51Speaker 27: We didn't get to see much of Irv Charles during
- 53:53Speaker 27: camp because he was hurt and such, but you have
- 53:55Speaker 27: him designated to return to. What did you kind of
- 53:57Speaker 27: see out of him to want him to be a
- 53:58Speaker 27: part of this and keep him on.
- 53:59Speaker 2: The ability to come back?
- 54:01Speaker 13: Well, he's a dominant gunner. I mean, he came in
- 54:05Speaker 13: today and we talked, and I forgot how big he was.
- 54:07Speaker 13: I gave him a hug, and I felt like I
- 54:08Speaker 13: was at his waist. And he's running 22 miles an hour,
- 54:12Speaker 13: and he's just a monster special teams player. So it's definitely...
- 54:17Speaker 13: It's definitely worth waiting for.
- 54:18Speaker 19: John, this time last year, Montori Foster, starting to substitute.
- 54:22Speaker 14: Teach because he was not out here, had the injury.
- 54:26Speaker 28: What does it say about him being able to come
- 54:29Speaker 28: back here, take advantage of the end of last season,
- 54:31Speaker 28: and then now earn.
- 54:32Speaker 13: Himself a spot on this team? Yeah, really proud of
- 54:36Speaker 13: him and proud of his teammates, obviously his position coaches.
- 54:40Speaker 13: I've never seen a player, I don't know how to
- 54:46Speaker 13: say that, it's hard to remember a player that at
- 54:49Speaker 13: the receiver position that's improved as quickly as he has. Um,
- 54:53Speaker 13: I told Jax, I felt like he like just took
- 54:55Speaker 13: his film and just completely studied it or, you know,
- 54:59Speaker 13: just followed him around for, you know, all spring or something. But, um,
- 55:04Speaker 13: and then his special team stuff's been really nice too.
- 55:06Speaker 13: So he's done a great job. Uh, that's pretty funny
- 55:09Speaker 13: that we were, we had the, uh, Kansas city, like
- 55:11Speaker 13: the local TV on there, like, you know, voluntary fosters
- 55:15Speaker 13: back there to, return the punt, this guy's a dangerous
- 55:18Speaker 13: pumper turner. I'm like, he literally doesn't do that. He's
- 55:22Speaker 13: just starting, but good shot. But if he can do that, great,
- 55:27Speaker 13: you know, as a safety pumper turner and gunner and
- 55:30Speaker 13: hold-up guy and stuff like that, too, it would be fantastic.
- 55:33Speaker 28: Bigger picture, you were talking with Ray Bull on the
- 55:35Speaker 28: pregame show, I think, for the second game about how, like,
- 55:39Speaker 28: you've learned you can't make emotional decisions.
- 55:42Speaker 2: When you're coming off a Super Bowl.
- 55:43Speaker 28: How hard is that, though, when you just saw the
- 55:46Speaker 28: team that you had collected win the Super Bowl?
- 55:48Speaker 13: Yeah, I mean, it's very hard. You know, we saw
- 55:51Speaker 13: Ken the other night. You know, it's tough. Like, we
- 55:53Speaker 13: were around him for, you know, four years. I mean, competitor,
- 55:59Speaker 13: hell of a player. You know, Reek and Boye and,
- 56:04Speaker 13: you know, Kobe. Unfortunately, Kobe was injured. You just miss
- 56:09Speaker 13: those guys, you know, but you have to keep going,
- 56:12Speaker 13: you have to be able to budget yourself to be
- 56:14Speaker 13: able to make, uh, smart decisions moving forward. And so
- 56:17Speaker 13: they're just kind of like, no, we did, we did
- 56:20Speaker 13: keep a lot of guys. We actually kept, you know,
- 56:22Speaker 13: a number of, I forget what the number of snaps,
- 56:24Speaker 13: like the total was or whatever, but it was, it
- 56:26Speaker 13: was more than I had anticipated looking back. Um, and
- 56:30Speaker 13: so I think that's a credit to, you know, the
- 56:33Speaker 13: coaches and Joey Lane and, and, um, you know, our
- 56:36Speaker 13: personnel staff and in terms of just like, you know,
- 56:38Speaker 13: guys wanting to be here and, and, um, Yeah, just
- 56:42Speaker 13: keeping as many guys as we possibly can. It's hard
- 56:45Speaker 13: not to. And Jason Light kind of reminded me of
- 56:54Speaker 13: that at the combine. We got together and grabbed some
- 56:59Speaker 13: dinner really late one night, and he was talking to
- 57:01Speaker 13: me about, like, hey, man, remember, like, heads up, like,
- 57:04Speaker 13: you know, what this is like. So it was a
- 57:07Speaker 13: great reminder from a good friend.
- 57:08Speaker 14: We didn't see Julian Neal do much in the preseason.
- 57:11Speaker 4: But he's on the 53 right now.
- 57:13Speaker 2: What have you kind of seen from him, maybe behind
- 57:15Speaker 2: the scenes?
- 57:15Speaker 13: Yeah, we're not into releasing third-round draft picks. Yeah, no,
- 57:19Speaker 13: I mean, yeah, he had a quad, and, you know,
- 57:22Speaker 13: it's like, let's go, and nothing that he did that
- 57:26Speaker 13: was his fault. He had, like, some sort of slight setback, and,
- 57:31Speaker 13: you know, I think he's out there today and was
- 57:35Speaker 13: out there in the pregame the other day. He looks
- 57:36Speaker 13: great in uniform. Looks good in Seahawks uniform, so if
- 57:41Speaker 13: you're into six, two guys that run fast and have
- 57:44Speaker 13: good ball skills and will tackle, it's pretty cool.
- 57:47Speaker 2: I wasn't implying you. I might have said no, because
- 57:49Speaker 2: it's healthy enough.
- 57:50Speaker 13: It's been a long couple days, buddy. I'm just being
- 57:52Speaker 13: a smartass.
- 57:54Speaker 27: John, fans might look at you signing Terry and Arnold.
- 57:58Speaker 27: Javon Diggs making the trade for the corner today and
- 58:00Speaker 27: not seeing Julian in the preseason and wonder about your
- 58:02Speaker 27: depth at corner. How do you feel about it right
- 58:04Speaker 27: now and how that outlook is for the position overall?
- 58:07Speaker 13: Yeah, great question. I feel solid about it, but it's
- 58:12Speaker 13: like that position is like you can never have enough
- 58:15Speaker 13: guys all the way through, and we've been in spots
- 58:18Speaker 13: before where we've been stuck where we're signing a guy,
- 58:23Speaker 13: practice squad, two weeks here, elevating. we want to be
- 58:27Speaker 13: able to have guys that are in the system for
- 58:29Speaker 13: a long time that, that the coaches feel comfortable about
- 58:31Speaker 13: playing in games. So, you know, with Avery, again, he's
- 58:36Speaker 13: a system fit. He's been, you know, in the same
- 58:38Speaker 13: system now for, but you know, the whole spring and everything. So,
- 58:42Speaker 13: you know, talking to those guys, it's a comfortable guy,
- 58:44Speaker 13: but to your point, yes. Like, like how do we
- 58:47Speaker 13: keep Ted Thompson would say, how do you, you gotta keep,
- 58:50Speaker 13: you gotta have one in the chamber. You know, you
- 58:51Speaker 13: always have a guy in the chamber all the time,
- 58:53Speaker 13: ready to go.
- 58:53Speaker 26: So, Are you going to ask any sort of like
- 58:56Speaker 26: closing conversation with Jody and Bert at dinner or anything
- 59:00Speaker 26: just as part of this transition?
- 59:01Speaker 3: That's a good question.
- 59:03Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 59:03Speaker 13: This has been nuts. We had the ring ceremony and then,
- 59:06Speaker 13: you know, we kind of went on vacation and, you know,
- 59:08Speaker 13: I've been in, I was obviously in contact with her
- 59:11Speaker 13: about the Tarion stuff but other than that now we've
- 59:14Speaker 13: just been going along you know to her to her
- 59:17Speaker 13: you know her deal was like a business as usual
- 59:20Speaker 13: and but it's it's incredible how fast it came and
- 59:23Speaker 13: like now it's like all right and now we're you
- 59:25Speaker 13: know now I'm in communication with new ownership so it's
- 59:28Speaker 13: pretty it's pretty wild And.
- 59:29Speaker 26: With the Leonard Williams extension, was that something that you
- 59:31Speaker 26: talked about with them or with the new ownership, or
- 59:33Speaker 26: how did that work?
- 59:34Speaker 13: That one was kind of in limbo, yeah. It was
- 59:36Speaker 13: kind of like right in the middle of the, you know,
- 59:38Speaker 13: it took a minute with that, but Joey did a
- 59:41Speaker 13: great job of just sticking with it and really like working,
- 59:48Speaker 13: like just working, because, yeah, I stopped myself there. But
- 59:54Speaker 13: Joey Lane did a great job of, continuing the conversations,
- 59:59Speaker 13: and then finally, like, we were able to get to
- 1:00:01Speaker 13: a spot about a week and a half ago where
- 1:00:03Speaker 13: we felt pretty close, so. But, you know, regardless of
- 1:00:08Speaker 13: the ownership group, like, Leonard Williams is, like, game changer.
- 1:00:13Speaker 13: It was, like, a no-brainer.
- 1:00:15Speaker 27: John, big picture on the signings this offseason to get Jackson, Devin,
- 1:00:20Speaker 27: Leonard all kind of done, knowing you got Byron coming next.
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: Year, too.
- 1:00:23Speaker 27: Like, how do you feel that does for the big
- 1:00:24Speaker 27: picture of.
- 1:00:25Speaker 13: Yeah, I was going to brag about that.
- 1:00:26Speaker 4: It was.
- 1:00:27Speaker 13: He was pumping them up the other day already. It's like,
- 1:00:30Speaker 13: I don't even need to. That one coming down the line, too.
- 1:00:31Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:00:32Speaker 27: Just kind of your thoughts on how that's allowed you
- 1:00:34Speaker 27: guys to set things up for the future, keep the
- 1:00:36Speaker 27: guys that you've wanted, the big pieces of your roster,
- 1:00:38Speaker 27: and kind of all of that.
- 1:00:39Speaker 13: Yeah, I mean, identifying foundational core players, right, and then
- 1:00:45Speaker 13: being able to reward them appropriately is huge. And so
- 1:00:49Speaker 13: now you just have to keep continuing to, you know,
- 1:00:53Speaker 13: build around those guys.
- 1:00:55Speaker 16: Yeah.
- 1:00:57Speaker 13: You know, unfortunately, you can't, you know, there's, like, you
- 1:00:59Speaker 13: can have, at some point, you can have the haves
- 1:01:01Speaker 13: and the have-nots. You have to be, there has to
- 1:01:03Speaker 13: be a balance in there, too. So, but, again, I
- 1:01:06Speaker 13: just give Joey Lane a ton of credit. There's a
- 1:01:09Speaker 13: lot of, I mean, let's go to Abe. Starting with
- 1:01:11Speaker 13: Abe and Cross, and, like, those were, you know, two tackles.
- 1:01:14Speaker 13: And then Jax, well, sorry, Rasheed, you know. Josh Jones
- 1:01:23Speaker 13: was a big one for us, like, you know, our
- 1:01:24Speaker 13: third tack. So, like, going all the way through, he
- 1:01:27Speaker 13: just did a great job. He would hate me for
- 1:01:30Speaker 13: saying this, but he just crushed it. And he's got
- 1:01:34Speaker 13: a great personality. He's easy to work with. Yeah, you're
- 1:01:39Speaker 13: not always going to like what you hear, but, you know,
- 1:01:41Speaker 13: he's just going to be there and continue the conversations.
- 1:01:43Speaker 14: John, how much are you going to look forward to
- 1:01:45Speaker 14: the new ownership's AI expertise and incorporating that in everything
- 1:01:49Speaker 14: you guys do?
- 1:01:51Speaker 13: Yeah, we've discussed it with them several times. When they
- 1:01:54Speaker 13: came in, when the groups were coming through, obviously we
- 1:01:57Speaker 13: did our research on the different groups and it was
- 1:02:00Speaker 13: just really exciting to figure out if we want to
- 1:02:06Speaker 13: be the franchise of the future, where can we take
- 1:02:08Speaker 13: this thing? We have really smart people that are able to,
- 1:02:15Speaker 13: we have the bandwidth to be foundational with it, but
- 1:02:20Speaker 13: then to have them come in and be able to
- 1:02:23Speaker 13: help us just take it to another level, whether it's,
- 1:02:25Speaker 13: you know, in the medical field and scouting and coaching, wherever.
- 1:02:30Speaker 13: We're going to do whatever we possibly can to just
- 1:02:33Speaker 13: crush it with these people. And, yeah, we've talked to
- 1:02:37Speaker 13: them several times about it, and it's just, I think
- 1:02:39Speaker 13: it's a really exciting thing.
- 1:02:41Speaker 14: Do you feel behind the rest of the league in
- 1:02:43Speaker 14: that regard?
- 1:02:44Speaker 13: No, I thought, like, I, no. I was reassured Like
- 1:02:51Speaker 13: I always feel behind. That's kind of what drives us. So, uh, um,
- 1:02:57Speaker 13: that level of anxiety, but, uh, no, like we're doing,
- 1:03:00Speaker 13: we're doing a, we're doing a good job with it,
- 1:03:01Speaker 13: but like we can go way, you know, like we
- 1:03:05Speaker 13: could take this to another level and, and a pretty
- 1:03:07Speaker 13: quick banner, I believe.
- 1:03:10Speaker 26: You mentioned you've had some contact with them maybe since
- 1:03:12Speaker 26: the last few days.
- 1:03:12Speaker 2: Just, just what is.
- 1:03:13Speaker 13: That like with kind of getting that working relationship?
- 1:03:16Speaker 16: Yeah.
- 1:03:16Speaker 13: Just, you know, understanding what's important to them and, and, uh,
- 1:03:19Speaker 13: to the family and, They're excited. They want to support.
- 1:03:29Speaker 13: They want to learn. It's just going to be very different.
- 1:03:34Speaker 13: So we're all going to be learning each other as
- 1:03:36Speaker 13: we go through here and figuring out what our cadences are. But, yeah,
- 1:03:43Speaker 13: they want to support and help in any way they can.
- 1:03:48Speaker 13: They want to win. They want to dominate. It's pretty cool.
- 1:03:50Speaker 2: As you understand it, are they going to be based
- 1:03:52Speaker 2: here or moving here?
- 1:03:54Speaker 13: I don't know that yet. I mean, there's been some
- 1:03:57Speaker 13: discussion with Neil a little bit, but I'm not sure
- 1:04:01Speaker 13: how that's going to... And the culture.
- 1:04:04Speaker 14: Piece that you guys built last year, how hard or
- 1:04:07Speaker 14: successful were you in the people you signed, the people
- 1:04:10Speaker 14: you retained, bringing that back, and how hard is that
- 1:04:14Speaker 14: to replicate.
- 1:04:14Speaker 13: What you had last year? Well, I would say, you know,
- 1:04:19Speaker 13: if Mike, a ton of credit, you know, post 25
- 1:04:23Speaker 13: season where he was like, I, you know, we, we
- 1:04:26Speaker 13: have so much further to go into building a cohesive team.
- 1:04:29Speaker 13: Like how do we build the relationships and, and like the,
- 1:04:33Speaker 13: the football, uh, connectedness. And he really, he really went
- 1:04:37Speaker 13: for it and, you know, spent a lot of time with, with, uh,
- 1:04:41Speaker 13: Mike Gervais and Hauschka and, and, um, just bought into
- 1:04:45Speaker 13: like the, the, what, what they were, what they were
- 1:04:48Speaker 13: talking about and, and understanding how much further we can,
- 1:04:52Speaker 13: we can grow as a team. And, and like the
- 1:04:56Speaker 13: ultimate team sports of playing for each other. And like,
- 1:04:58Speaker 13: no matter how much money this guy's making or that
- 1:05:00Speaker 13: guy's money, you know, like, like how do we just
- 1:05:02Speaker 13: try to, you know, avoid that noise and just be
- 1:05:05Speaker 13: the best team we possibly can as a, as a unit.
- 1:05:08Speaker 13: And that's what we talk about. Like, I mean, you
- 1:05:10Speaker 13: guys are, I'm talking about this a lot this weekend
- 1:05:12Speaker 13: with the guys we're talking to, but like, again, this
- 1:05:14Speaker 13: is like, 70 you know like this whole group of
- 1:05:17Speaker 13: people it's really like it'll probably end up being like
- 1:05:19Speaker 13: as you guys well know like 85 maybe getting back
- 1:05:22Speaker 13: to 90 92 we'll probably have 100 and some guys
- 1:05:25Speaker 13: through the building this year and it's like it's not
- 1:05:27Speaker 13: just like the players it's the foundational people like dave
- 1:05:30Speaker 13: and ek and mo and soup and strick and sam
- 1:05:34Speaker 13: ramsden and all these people that have been here that
- 1:05:36Speaker 13: are always have their hands on the on the players
- 1:05:38Speaker 13: and are trying to help them be the best they
- 1:05:40Speaker 13: possibly be as well as the coaches and everybody that's
- 1:05:43Speaker 13: just touching the players Last question.
- 1:05:46Speaker 28: Uh, Sam, what do you thought of the summer that
- 1:05:48Speaker 28: he's had and how big do you think it is
- 1:05:50Speaker 28: for him to be, you know, in the same position,
- 1:05:53Speaker 28: you know, not like, you know, I think it's been
- 1:05:55Speaker 28: since 2020 that with the same team and not competing
- 1:05:58Speaker 28: for a job.
- 1:05:59Speaker 13: Or very good offense.
- 1:06:01Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:06:01Speaker 13: We were very impressed last season, the way he came
- 1:06:04Speaker 13: in and was a leader right away. And in the way,
- 1:06:07Speaker 13: the way he does it, you know, us being a guy,
- 1:06:09Speaker 13: like being a real, um, authentic leader, um, And I
- 1:06:15Speaker 13: would say that's much stronger. And then I think the
- 1:06:21Speaker 13: level of play is further along than it was at
- 1:06:23Speaker 13: this point last year as well. All right.
- 1:06:26Speaker 14: Thank you, everyone.
- 1:06:27Speaker 8: Thanks, guys.
- 1:06:30Speaker 2: That's John Schneider, the Seahawks general manager. You heard him
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: mention Hauska there. Yeah, that's Stephen Hauska.
- 1:06:35Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:06:35Speaker 2: The former Seahawks kicker. He now works with Michael Gervais,
- 1:06:39Speaker 2: who's the performance psychologist, sports performance psychologist that Mike– Mike
- 1:06:44Speaker 2: McDonald meets regularly, like weekly during the season. He meets
- 1:06:48Speaker 2: with Hauska and Gervais. And a lot of what they
- 1:06:51Speaker 2: meet about is how to talk in front of the
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: team and present mental challenge and mental health and mental
- 1:06:57Speaker 2: sport performance talking points.
- 1:06:59Speaker 4: It's a huge part of the sport. My friend Luke Falk,
- 1:07:03Speaker 4: former Coug, go Cougs.
- 1:07:05Speaker 3: He does the same thing.
- 1:07:07Speaker 4: And when he finally got into that, it changed his career.
- 1:07:12Speaker 3: It changed his life.
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: You heard me ask about the AI component. The coaches
- 1:07:16Speaker 2: are really anxious to get the Kozla family in here.
- 1:07:19Speaker 2: They're early investors in AI. Neil, the son in his
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: late 30s, who may have the day-to-day long-term operations with
- 1:07:26Speaker 2: the team, is an investor and, in fact, a founder
- 1:07:29Speaker 2: of an AI medical company in the Bay Area. John
- 1:07:33Speaker 2: Schneider and Mike McDonald are anxious to get the Kozlas
- 1:07:35Speaker 2: in the building. And when the finances are done and
- 1:07:37Speaker 2: that's finally done, they'll have a press conference at Lumen
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: Field probably within a week or so to announce it's
- 1:07:41Speaker 2: formally now done-done. But they want to change scouting. You
- 1:07:46Speaker 2: heard them. Medical, coaching, how they schedule, how they eat,
- 1:07:50Speaker 2: all with AI. And they want the Kozla family to
- 1:07:53Speaker 2: be a part of that. How do you feel about that? 49451. Yes,
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: they were minority. Vinod Kozla was a minority investor in
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: the 49ers, and that hasn't actually been a well-run operation
- 1:08:03Speaker 2: in the last 24 months.
- 1:08:05Speaker 3: Well, it was a good time to jump ship on
- 1:08:07Speaker 3: that one. Thank you, Jed.
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: You're a chance to be a part of the show.
- 1:08:11Speaker 2: We have a Show record of talkbacks, I think, like
- 1:08:15Speaker 2: six or seven of them.
- 1:08:16Speaker 3: We've got plenty coming in, and they're still coming in, too.
- 1:08:19Speaker 2: And I bet some of them are about the Mariners.
- 1:08:21Speaker 3: Yeah, you are correct, sir.
- 1:08:24Speaker 2: We'll do that. We'll do text 49451 at Tacoma Dodge
- 1:08:28Speaker 2: text line coming up next on 93.3 KJR FM.

- 1:14:15Speaker 9: Hey guys, love the show. Jess, we gotta stop saying
- 1:14:21Speaker 9: that this team is talented. This team has overrated talent.
- 1:14:27Speaker 9: If you go by position by position, this team is
- 1:14:31Speaker 9: not talented.
- 1:14:33Speaker 14: Like, at all.
- 1:14:35Speaker 9: They're just not a talented baseball team. They have a
- 1:14:39Speaker 9: couple good players. This is not a talented baseball.
- 1:14:42Speaker 36: Team, and it's showing. Hi, Greg.
- 1:14:45Speaker 24: Hey, Justin. A question I would have is why the
- 1:14:50Speaker 24: Seahawks decided to put Diggs on the practice list, even
- 1:14:55Speaker 24: though he... He's new to the team, trying to catch up,
- 1:15:00Speaker 24: but I would think you would want him on the
- 1:15:02Speaker 24: 53-man muster versus Nehemiah Pritchett.
- 1:15:08Speaker 2: I can't understand that. You're a U.S. Coast Guard listener.
- 1:15:11Speaker 25: Some opponents cry saying it's not fair. But to quote
- 1:15:14Speaker 25: Coach McDonald, we did not care. Didn't care then and
- 1:15:18Speaker 25: we don't care now.
- 1:15:19Speaker 7: 12 is one.
- 1:15:20Speaker 25: You look perplexed. I'll show you how. When the Hawks
- 1:15:23Speaker 25: hit the field, that's how it starts. Before the game
- 1:15:26Speaker 25: is over, you'll see the sum of all parts. When
- 1:15:28Speaker 25: you play for your brothers, all you do is win.
- 1:15:31Speaker 25: Now back to the show with Greg and Jessamine.
- 1:15:36Speaker 3: I love you guys so much.
- 1:15:37Speaker 2: We need her name. She should market that and record
- 1:15:41Speaker 2: it and put it out. Some spitting bars, as my
- 1:15:44Speaker 2: son would say.
- 1:15:44Speaker 3: That was some bars, yes.
- 1:15:47Speaker 4: I love every second, and thank you guys for making
- 1:15:50Speaker 4: my day when you send these in.
- 1:15:53Speaker 2: Coast Guard O'Day listener, a question about Pritchett versus Diggs
- 1:15:56Speaker 2: to the practice squad. It's simply who's eligible for waivers.
- 1:16:00Speaker 2: If they waived Pritchett, he would have to go through
- 1:16:02Speaker 2: league waivers, and he's got some game film from last
- 1:16:05Speaker 2: season that the league has seen, there's a high likelihood
- 1:16:08Speaker 2: he would get claimed, or at least there's a chance
- 1:16:10Speaker 2: he would get claimed, and the Seahawks would lose him.
- 1:16:12Speaker 2: Diggs does not go through waivers. So if you have
- 1:16:15Speaker 2: an agreement with Diggs, a handshake agreement, a gentleman's agreement, okay,
- 1:16:18Speaker 2: I'll go sign to your practice squad and develop there.
- 1:16:22Speaker 2: That's why you do that. So you don't expose Pritchett
- 1:16:25Speaker 2: to waivers. You can keep both of them rather than
- 1:16:27Speaker 2: risk one of them. That is the only reason. It's
- 1:16:29Speaker 2: not a status thing of practice squad versus active roster.
- 1:16:32Speaker 2: It's what gives you the best chance to keep both
- 1:16:34Speaker 2: of them. And as far as the not talented, I
- 1:16:37Speaker 2: think the M's have talent. They just play terribly. I
- 1:16:41Speaker 2: think they have a very talented lineup and roster that
- 1:16:45Speaker 2: play like they don't know how to play. And they're
- 1:16:47Speaker 2: not holding an accountability standard of focus and performance. The
- 1:16:51Speaker 2: results are what they are, but pushback saying that they
- 1:16:54Speaker 2: are not talented. I think Cole Young, Kyle Raleigh, Julio
- 1:17:00Speaker 2: Rodriguez has talent, obviously Josh Naylor. They're talented. Randy Rosarino
- 1:17:05Speaker 2: is talented and your most consistent hitter. They have talent.
- 1:17:09Speaker 2: They just don't perform to their capabilities, and that's a
- 1:17:11Speaker 2: problem from leadership on down. That is a leadership, motivation,
- 1:17:15Speaker 2: execution issue, I think. We have more, huh?
- 1:17:18Speaker 3: I'm with you, too. We have a lot of contributions today.
- 1:17:22Speaker 36: This whole wasted season just feels like Jerry's failed attempt
- 1:17:26Speaker 36: to show the baseball world that he knows more than
- 1:17:29Speaker 36: any of them. From Danager to the six-man piggyback rotation fiasco,
- 1:17:35Speaker 36: this whole season has just sucked balls.
- 1:17:39Speaker 2: Hi, Greg and Jess.
- 1:17:41Speaker 37: So do the Mariners not know that rock bottom is
- 1:17:45Speaker 37: supposed to be something that's rare and It's not something
- 1:17:48Speaker 37: that's supposed to happen once every couple weeks. And also,
- 1:17:51Speaker 37: once you hit rock bottom, you're supposed to go up
- 1:17:55Speaker 37: from there. You're not supposed to hit rock bottom, then
- 1:17:58Speaker 37: win a game or two, and then hit rock bottom.
- 1:18:01Speaker 14: Again, win another game or a few, and then.
- 1:18:04Speaker 2: Hit rock bottom again.
- 1:18:06Speaker 37: Rock bottom is supposed.
- 1:18:07Speaker 2: To be rare.
- 1:18:08Speaker 16: Hey, Chuck Powell here with the ABCs of the Mariners
- 1:18:11Speaker 16: for Always Be Catastrophic.
- 1:18:14Speaker 2: It's not Jerry's fault. I love Jerry Napoto.
- 1:18:18Speaker 16: It's Scott servicing the manager. I love Jerry DePoto. And
- 1:18:22Speaker 16: for ABCs, it's ABJ.
- 1:18:24Speaker 30: Always believe in Jerry.
- 1:18:26Speaker 16: I think it's good that the hitters don't know what
- 1:18:29Speaker 16: the hell they're doing. I think it's good we don't
- 1:18:32Speaker 16: play this minor.
- 1:18:32Speaker 19: League talent and we listen to 54%.
- 1:18:35Speaker 2: Go M's.
- 1:18:37Speaker 13: Sorry.
- 1:18:38Speaker 36: I guess I should have said this whole season I've
- 1:18:40Speaker 36: sucked baseballs. And the whole life out of everybody.
- 1:18:46Speaker 2: No, I think Suck Balls worked. Oh, yeah.
- 1:18:51Speaker 4: I mean, I do appreciate the creativity when it comes
- 1:18:55Speaker 4: to Suck Baseballs.
- 1:18:58Speaker 2: They are rocker bottom-er. Because every time that... I don't
- 1:19:03Speaker 2: know how many times Adam Jude and Ryan Divish can
- 1:19:05Speaker 2: use rock bottom because.
- 1:19:07Speaker 3: I mean, you run out of similes.
- 1:19:10Speaker 2: If tonight they lose, it would be actually technically rock
- 1:19:13Speaker 2: bottom because that would be the season low 10 games
- 1:19:16Speaker 2: below 500. And again, the Red Sox have a left-hander,
- 1:19:20Speaker 2: a young 6'6, left-hander who throws 99 miles an hour.
- 1:19:23Speaker 2: So you can see where that's headed. George Kirby's going
- 1:19:25Speaker 2: to have to pitch the game of his season to
- 1:19:27Speaker 2: win tonight. But if they lose, then it is certifiably
- 1:19:31Speaker 2: rock bottom to be 10 games under. They have not
- 1:19:33Speaker 2: been 10 games under.
- 1:19:34Speaker 37: Once you hit rock bottom, you're supposed to go up
- 1:19:37Speaker 37: from there.
- 1:19:40Speaker 2: Rocker bottom of her. I get it. That's so good.
- 1:19:44Speaker 3: That's so true.
- 1:19:44Speaker 4: Oh, yes.
- 1:19:44Speaker 3: We appreciate you.
- 1:19:46Speaker 2: Suck balls.
- 1:19:48Speaker 3: Suck baseball.
- 1:19:49Speaker 2: Yeah. As if that's better.
- 1:19:50Speaker 3: I don't think that is.
- 1:19:53Speaker 2: On the text line, 49451, a lot of you have
- 1:19:55Speaker 2: asked a question that I have avoided answering throughout the show.
- 1:19:59Speaker 2: Jason Myers. I caught up with Jason Myers on the
- 1:20:03Speaker 2: way out of the locker room in Kansas City Friday night.
- 1:20:05Speaker 2: He wasn't exactly happy to see me because he knew
- 1:20:08Speaker 2: what I was going to talk about. He kind of
- 1:20:10Speaker 2: had this look on his face like, okay, now you
- 1:20:11Speaker 2: talk to me. Oh, really? You haven't talked to me
- 1:20:13Speaker 2: since the Super Bowl, but now you talk to me.
- 1:20:16Speaker 2: He missed five kicks out of eight tries, counting two
- 1:20:19Speaker 2: missed extra points in the preseason. He only missed seven
- 1:20:22Speaker 2: kicks all last season, playoffs and regular season. 20 games,
- 1:20:28Speaker 2: only missed seven kicks. In three preseason games, he missed five.
- 1:20:32Speaker 2: Even the 46-yarder he made the other night started veering
- 1:20:34Speaker 2: to the right. I don't know if you noticed that.
- 1:20:36Speaker 2: It was heading down. I didn't notice.
- 1:20:39Speaker 3: The directionality, but yes.
- 1:20:41Speaker 2: It wasn't great. For the win, the last kick, the
- 1:20:44Speaker 2: 52-yarder looked like it was on a joystick and someone,
- 1:20:46Speaker 2: a chief, had just derailed it out of the right.
- 1:20:50Speaker 2: It was just right turned outside. He said, Jason Meyer,
- 1:20:53Speaker 2: the story's at thenewstribune.com. I wrote it Friday night. From
- 1:20:57Speaker 2: Kansas City, he told me, yep, I'm working on mechanics.
- 1:21:01Speaker 2: I'm looking at film. I'm trying to find the reason.
- 1:21:03Speaker 2: He said it does happen from time to time. He
- 1:21:07Speaker 2: believes it's a mechanical issue that he can fix. He
- 1:21:09Speaker 2: doesn't see it as a mental issue. He didn't say
- 1:21:11Speaker 2: anything about mentality or mental issue, but that it was
- 1:21:14Speaker 2: a physical. He's trying to find the root cause of
- 1:21:17Speaker 2: the ball veering the way it has during the preseason.
- 1:21:20Speaker 2: Mike McDonald said after the game they trust J.M.I., that
- 1:21:23Speaker 2: they went for what they packed it up after they
- 1:21:26Speaker 2: got to the 35-yard line and just ran two plays
- 1:21:29Speaker 2: into the line and then called timeout with three seconds left.
- 1:21:32Speaker 2: There was like a minute 15 left. They had time
- 1:21:34Speaker 2: to get more yardage and get a closer kick, but
- 1:21:36Speaker 2: they thought, eh, he can make it from here. And
- 1:21:38Speaker 2: so McDonald explaining his trust in Myers is why he
- 1:21:41Speaker 2: did it that way. No, they aren't taking a kicking change,
- 1:21:44Speaker 2: but I'll tell you what, if your kicker loses a
- 1:21:46Speaker 2: couple games for you, this is on the table. The Seahawks,
- 1:21:50Speaker 2: we all know, because of their good defense, their excellent defense,
- 1:21:53Speaker 2: world-class top-ranked defense play a lot of close games, close,
- 1:21:57Speaker 2: low-scoring games that your kicker can't miss field goals in. Can't. So, well,
- 1:22:02Speaker 2: it's something definitely to watch. But, no, no changes are
- 1:22:05Speaker 2: imminent there.
- 1:22:09Speaker 4: Well, thank you guys for the talkbacks because it made
- 1:22:12Speaker 4: me so happy.
- 1:22:13Speaker 3: I love your voices.
- 1:22:14Speaker 4: I mean, obviously, I love Greg's voice too, but I
- 1:22:19Speaker 4: like more voices on the show.
- 1:22:21Speaker 3: It's so much fun. It's so much fun. And you
- 1:22:23Speaker 3: guys are really creative. And I don't know. I just,
- 1:22:27Speaker 3: I really like it.
- 1:22:27Speaker 37: Once you hit rock bottom, you're supposed to go.
- 1:22:31Speaker 2: Up from there. Yeah, we should just keep playing that.
- 1:22:33Speaker 30: Very poignant.
- 1:22:35Speaker 3: I saved it as a drop.
- 1:22:36Speaker 2: Yeah, that's right. Keep going to that. Um, two, five,
- 1:22:39Speaker 2: three says he's honestly, she's honestly surprised that the Seahawks
- 1:22:42Speaker 2: are already using AI.
- 1:22:44Speaker 16: Yeah.
- 1:22:44Speaker 2: A lot of, I don't know how many sports teams are.
- 1:22:48Speaker 2: I don't think Mary, well, you heard John Snyder say
- 1:22:50Speaker 2: he doesn't feel like he's behind the NFL. The 49ers do.
- 1:22:54Speaker 2: They use a lot of it. And the coaching staff
- 1:22:57Speaker 2: knows that we'll see. We'll see how this changes, how
- 1:23:01Speaker 2: the Seahawks operate. It is an interesting question that AI
- 1:23:04Speaker 2: owners are coming in, buying the team for sure. You
- 1:23:07Speaker 2: know what?
- 1:23:08Speaker 4: I think that there's so much stigma around AI and
- 1:23:12Speaker 4: the way they started it was to help people. It
- 1:23:15Speaker 4: was for medical reasons and to try to actually provide
- 1:23:20Speaker 4: something at a lower cost for people who can't afford it.
- 1:23:24Speaker 3: So I just feel like.
- 1:23:25Speaker 4: That needs to be brought into the equation so that
- 1:23:28Speaker 4: people understand.
- 1:23:29Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:23:30Speaker 4: That it's not just, hey, we want to have robots
- 1:23:32Speaker 4: and fire everyone.
- 1:23:34Speaker 13: No.
- 1:23:34Speaker 2: Or making videos that don't mean anything. Oh, God. That's
- 1:23:38Speaker 2: what AI is. It's been abused in that way for sure. Yeah.
- 1:23:42Speaker 2: All right. 425 says, hey, Greg, I thought of a
- 1:23:44Speaker 2: player like Diggs. Didn't make the 53-man roster. He can
- 1:23:47Speaker 2: then be claimed by any team. What stops someone else
- 1:23:49Speaker 2: from picking him up? Does he have a choice to
- 1:23:51Speaker 2: say or something? Yes, he does have a choice. He's
- 1:23:54Speaker 2: an unrestricted free agent. He doesn't get claimed on waivers.
- 1:23:56Speaker 2: He could be signed by any team. to their 53-man
- 1:23:59Speaker 2: roster today. If they offered him $ 5 million to play
- 1:24:03Speaker 2: this year, he would probably go. The thing is, he
- 1:24:05Speaker 2: hasn't been in pads since January. He's had a history
- 1:24:09Speaker 2: of injuries. He hasn't played a full season since 2022,
- 1:24:12Speaker 2: and he was on the street until the end of
- 1:24:14Speaker 2: August when the Seahawks and Lions were the only two
- 1:24:16Speaker 2: that tried him out. So he chose the Seahawks, and
- 1:24:20Speaker 2: now the Seahawks are giving him a shot, but they're
- 1:24:21Speaker 2: telling him, To get this shot, you're going to be
- 1:24:23Speaker 2: on the practice squad first. So that's why they're doing
- 1:24:25Speaker 2: it this way. He's not subject to waivers. He could
- 1:24:27Speaker 2: sign with any team. He's agreed to sign with the
- 1:24:29Speaker 2: Seahawks practice squad.
- 1:24:29Speaker 3: Okay, before we get to break. One late last talk back.
- 1:24:34Speaker 2: Hey, guys.
- 1:24:35Speaker 19: Ian Furness here. Getting ready for Crosstalk today and Crosstalk tomorrow.
- 1:24:40Speaker 19: We'll have some Crosstalk tomorrow. I just want to check in, period.
- 1:24:44Speaker 2: End of story.
- 1:24:45Speaker 17: Today we got Nathan and Chris. They're pissed off, man.
- 1:24:48Speaker 17: Those couple knuckleheads. They're pissed off. Talk about the local
- 1:24:51Speaker 17: baseball team. We'll talk about the local baseball team.
- 1:24:54Speaker 2: And period. End of story. I do want to touch
- 1:24:57Speaker 2: base on something for Brazardo.
- 1:24:59Speaker 14: Not knowing where home is.
- 1:25:00Speaker 7: What are we doing? What are we doing?
- 1:25:03Speaker 3: Had to get it in. Had to get it in.
- 1:25:05Speaker 2: He didn't say as we go along. He didn't say that.
- 1:25:08Speaker 8: No.
- 1:25:09Speaker 2: That's another Ian-ism.
- 1:25:10Speaker 3: There's some isms, yeah.
- 1:25:12Speaker 2: That's pretty good. Ian is up next. We'll ask if
- 1:25:14Speaker 2: he just heard that. We'll ask what he has on
- 1:25:16Speaker 2: his show. I'm going to ask you about the Cougs
- 1:25:19Speaker 2: and the Huskies, Apple Cup week. It's already going on.
- 1:25:21Speaker 2: There's something that the SID departments for Washington State and
- 1:25:24Speaker 2: UW are already doing to one-up each other. We'll talk
- 1:25:27Speaker 2: about that next on 93.3 KJRFM.
- 1:25:55Speaker 29: You're going to see an accident on the shoulder in
- 1:25:57Speaker 29: Renton on northbound 405 at Oaksdale. Then in Kirkland, we
- 1:26:00Speaker 29: have a stall on northbound 405 north of 85th, and
- 1:26:03Speaker 29: that's been blocking in the right lane. You're going to
- 1:26:05Speaker 29: see some road work slowing you down as you're traveling
- 1:26:07Speaker 29: eastbound 18 approaching Issaquah Hobart Road. And in Renton, the
- 1:26:10Speaker 29: southbound 405 off-ramp to Talbot has a stall partially blocking.

- 1:32:14Speaker 19: some Crosstalk tomorrow.
- 1:32:15Speaker 2: I just want to check in, period. End of story.
- 1:32:19Speaker 2: Today we got Nathan and Chris.
- 1:32:21Speaker 17: They're pissed off, man. Those couple knuckleheads. They're pissed off.
- 1:32:24Speaker 17: Talk about the local baseball team. We'll talk about the
- 1:32:27Speaker 17: local baseball team.
- 1:32:28Speaker 27: And period.
- 1:32:29Speaker 2: End of story. I do want to touch base on
- 1:32:31Speaker 2: something for Brizardo, not knowing where home is.
- 1:32:34Speaker 7: What are we doing?
- 1:32:35Speaker 2: What are we doing? Well played. Well played. Not as
- 1:32:39Speaker 2: good as Furious Feltz on our show, but pretty close.
- 1:32:42Speaker 2: Well done. Well done. You're honored. Oh, God. He's smiling.
- 1:32:46Speaker 2: That's good. That was good. That was good. That was good.
- 1:32:48Speaker 2: How are you? I'm well, thanks.
- 1:32:49Speaker 14: How are you?
- 1:32:50Speaker 2: Ian Furness joining us. Greg Bell, Jasmine McIntyre, 93.3 KJFM.
- 1:32:54Speaker 2: The Apple Cup week begins this week. The game is
- 1:32:58Speaker 2: on Sunday. I heard that. Sunday at 1 o'clock. I
- 1:33:00Speaker 2: heard that. Are you going?
- 1:33:03Speaker 20: Come on, man. Why would I go to Husky Stadium?
- 1:33:09Speaker 2: To see your team.
- 1:33:10Speaker 3: To watch me kick Softy's ass.
- 1:33:12Speaker 2: Well, I can do that every day. Yeah, that's true.
- 1:33:14Speaker 3: I have no desire to go there.
- 1:33:16Speaker 2: To watch your team. I have no desire. My son.
- 1:33:18Speaker 20: I'll watch it on TV that way when things, if
- 1:33:20Speaker 20: they get south early, then I've got everything I need
- 1:33:23Speaker 20: at my fingertips.
- 1:33:24Speaker 2: NBC National TV game Sunday at 1 o'clock. Sunday, Apple
- 1:33:27Speaker 2: Cup at 1 o'clock. Jeff Bechdel, friend of ours, new dub, SID.
- 1:33:31Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 1:33:32Speaker 2: Sent out his weekly game notes this week. And at
- 1:33:35Speaker 2: the very top of it, in bold letters, it says,
- 1:33:38Speaker 2: we will send out a depth chart for the week
- 1:33:40Speaker 2: if and when Washington State does. He does that often, though, right?
- 1:33:44Speaker 2: I think that's a thing now. Sometimes. Well, because... Sometimes.
- 1:33:49Speaker 20: But they did that last year with.
- 1:33:52Speaker 2: I'm trying to think who it was. There's a couple
- 1:33:54Speaker 2: Big Ten schools.
- 1:33:55Speaker 3: Oregon, for sure.
- 1:33:56Speaker 20: But there's, like, Big Ten schools that didn't do a
- 1:33:58Speaker 20: depth chart, and then they wouldn't do the depth chart, which.
- 1:34:01Speaker 20: And this isn't against the whole thing. Like, if you're
- 1:34:05Speaker 20: going to now find teams or you got it like
- 1:34:07Speaker 20: in college, you have to be up front with.
- 1:34:08Speaker 2: The injury report. Yeah.
- 1:34:11Speaker 20: Like, can you just do the broadcasters and others a
- 1:34:13Speaker 20: favor and put the depth chart out? Even in the NFL,
- 1:34:17Speaker 20: when it's preseason, when it doesn't really matter, there's a
- 1:34:20Speaker 20: depth chart.
- 1:34:21Speaker 2: Unofficial, but put out by the PR. But it's still
- 1:34:23Speaker 2: pretty accurate. Close.
- 1:34:25Speaker 20: And, like, I just think it's– I think it's not
- 1:34:28Speaker 20: just him. I think there's SIDs that do that. They're
- 1:34:30Speaker 20: doing their– They're doing their broadcasters, the national broadcasters, and
- 1:34:35Speaker 20: the visiting broadcasters a big disservice.
- 1:34:37Speaker 2: I bet the actual broadcasters can get them. Maybe at
- 1:34:40Speaker 2: least can, but I bet the guy from, I bet,
- 1:34:42Speaker 2: what's the kid's name?
- 1:34:43Speaker 10: Chris.
- 1:34:44Speaker 2: He probably can't get it. So from Wazoo. I think
- 1:34:46Speaker 2: it's just silly, but you know.
- 1:34:48Speaker 3: Chris King is the voice of the Cougs.
- 1:34:50Speaker 2: That's him, yes.
- 1:34:51Speaker 20: They, I, I think it's silly, but that's just, that's
- 1:34:53Speaker 20: the broadcaster in me that just, that just did a
- 1:34:55Speaker 20: preseason game with 180 guys on the roster. And it's
- 1:34:58Speaker 20: hard enough for that. And college has the same.
- 1:35:00Speaker 2: Yes, they do.
- 1:35:01Speaker 20: College has roughly now most of those guys don't play
- 1:35:03Speaker 20: and so forth, but yeah.
- 1:35:06Speaker 2: What stuck out to you about the Seahawks weekend? Miller
- 1:35:10Speaker 2: was good. Very good. Outside of that, nothing. Literally outside
- 1:35:14Speaker 2: of that, nothing. What about the cut? What about Diggs?
- 1:35:16Speaker 2: And what about the cut? Well, I mean, you explained
- 1:35:18Speaker 2: it well.
- 1:35:18Speaker 20: I mean, there's, Schneider and they're all doing, not just Schneider,
- 1:35:21Speaker 20: like all these guys are doing roster gymnastics throughout the league.
- 1:35:23Speaker 20: I think it's a really interesting point because we always,
- 1:35:25Speaker 20: we get to this every year. People are like, oh,
- 1:35:27Speaker 20: like going back in July and early August, people were talking,
- 1:35:31Speaker 20: us probably included, oh, can they sneak him through waivers
- 1:35:34Speaker 20: to get to the practice squad?
- 1:35:36Speaker 2: And 26 guys got picked up last year. Out of
- 1:35:38Speaker 2: 32 teams. Yeah. Fewer than one per team. Less than
- 1:35:40Speaker 2: one per team.
- 1:35:40Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:35:41Speaker 20: So I don't think, so everyone's doing the same kind
- 1:35:43Speaker 20: of thing. the little roster gymnastics. But, yeah, I mean,
- 1:35:48Speaker 20: the safety thing was the one that surprised me. I
- 1:35:50Speaker 20: think you're getting a little risky with a couple of
- 1:35:52Speaker 20: those guys. I think Thomas and Bell are guys that
- 1:35:54Speaker 20: could certainly go somewhere else.
- 1:35:56Speaker 2: That would worry me a little bit.
- 1:35:58Speaker 5: I agree.
- 1:35:58Speaker 2: Because you have no depth there. That's a little bit
- 1:36:00Speaker 2: of a risky move. They count on Bell to come
- 1:36:02Speaker 2: back because Bell actually chose to decline more money to
- 1:36:05Speaker 2: stay with Cleveland. His agent told me that. Yeah. We
- 1:36:08Speaker 2: had him on in training camp. He said the same thing.
- 1:36:10Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:36:11Speaker 2: But it's risky.
- 1:36:13Speaker 8: It is.
- 1:36:13Speaker 2: If somebody puts you on a 53, man. That's right.
- 1:36:15Speaker 2: Then away you go. Molly Wap today should be... Oh, God. Yeah,
- 1:36:21Speaker 2: it'll be interesting. What a weekend.
- 1:36:24Speaker 3: The Molly will be Wap.
- 1:36:25Speaker 2: Why will they not just take the ball out of
- 1:36:27Speaker 2: Bizarro's hand and say, you're done? And why don't they
- 1:36:29Speaker 2: just take the ball out of Julio Rodriguez's hand and say,
- 1:36:31Speaker 2: you're done, when you throw the ball in the stands?
- 1:36:32Speaker 10: Because.
- 1:36:33Speaker 20: I'll just go, I'll reference my friend Softy who did
- 1:36:35Speaker 20: like multiple social media videos this weekend.
- 1:36:37Speaker 2: Accountability. There's no account of it. There's no leadership. You
- 1:36:40Speaker 2: know the answer.
- 1:36:41Speaker 13: Yes.
- 1:36:41Speaker 23: Yes.
- 1:36:41Speaker 2: It's a rhetorical question. That was a rhetorical question. Molly
- 1:36:44Speaker 2: Wap is going to be. One o'clock today. Let's go.
- 1:36:47Speaker 2: What else you got? We'll talk Seahawks. Will you? Yeah,
- 1:36:51Speaker 2: we'll talk Seahawks. I appreciate that. Yeah, we'll get to
- 1:36:54Speaker 2: that as well. Ian and the Molly Wap gang are
- 1:36:57Speaker 2: up for a fireworks show next. Greg Bell, Justin McIntyre,
- 1:37:00Speaker 2: and all the talkbacks. Appreciate that. We'll do it again
- 1:37:03Speaker 2: tomorrow at 10 a.m. Keep them coming. She'll play them
- 1:37:05Speaker 2: in the middle of the night if you send them.
- 1:37:07Speaker 2: He ends up next.
- 1:37:08Speaker 3: Okay, but like don't.
- 1:37:09Speaker 2: Don't send them to her personally. It's a station. He
- 1:37:12Speaker 2: ends up next on 93.3 KJR FM.
