- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome back to a peak inside Gator football alley peak here.
- 0:03Speaker 1: This reaction is brought to you by prize picks.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Don't forget.
- 0:06Speaker 1: New users can download the app, play a $ 5 lineup
- 0:10Speaker 1: and use our code.
- 0:10Speaker 2: It's HMA. If you win, you get $ 150 in lineups instantly. Okay, guys,
- 0:16Speaker 2: that was rough. There are losses.
- 0:18Speaker 1: And then there are those games where you were sitting
- 0:21Speaker 1: there for three and a half hours wondering what in
- 0:24Speaker 1: the hell am I watching? Florida just got absolutely embarrassed
- 0:29Speaker 1: by Missouri on the road, 45-17. The number eight team
- 0:33Speaker 1: in the country walked into Columbia, Missouri undefeated, coming off
- 0:37Speaker 1: of what is probably the most impressive wins we've seen
- 0:40Speaker 1: from this program in a long time, and got run
- 0:44Speaker 1: out of the stadium. There really is no other way
- 0:47Speaker 1: to say it. This wasn't a bad bounce. This wasn't
- 0:51Speaker 1: one turnover changing the game. This wasn't Florida losing a
- 0:54Speaker 1: heartbreaker on the road. This wasn't the refs. Missouri was better.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Missouri was tougher. Missouri was more physical. Missouri was better
- 1:04Speaker 1: coached today. And Florida got exposed in some areas that,
- 1:08Speaker 1: quite frankly, I think we knew would eventually become problems.
- 1:11Speaker 1: We just didn't expect all of them to show up
- 1:14Speaker 1: at the exact same time, and maybe not against Missouri.
- 1:17Speaker 2: So this is not my good, bad, and ugly.
- 1:20Speaker 1: I'll do that tomorrow morning when I've had a chance
- 1:22Speaker 1: to actually digest this thing.
- 1:24Speaker 2: This is an instant reaction. And my instant reaction is, wow.
- 1:30Speaker 2: Because a week ago, Florida looked like one of the
- 1:32Speaker 2: best teams in college football.
- 1:33Speaker 1: They ran for more than 300 yards against Ole Miss.
- 1:35Speaker 1: They scored 52 points against the number four team in
- 1:38Speaker 1: the country.
- 1:39Speaker 2: The swamp was rocking. Jaden Baugh looked unstoppable. Duke Clark
- 1:43Speaker 2: looked explosive. Aaron Filo looked comfortable.
- 1:46Speaker 1: John Sumrall looked like the hottest coach in college football.
- 1:50Speaker 1: Florida jumped all the way to number eight in the country.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Seven days later, Florida basically rushed for nothing. Jadenbaugh had
- 1:59Speaker 1: 12 carries for 13 yards. 13. Missouri completely took away
- 2:04Speaker 1: the thing that Florida had built its identity around. And
- 2:08Speaker 1: once the running game completely disappeared, Florida really had no answer.
- 2:12Speaker 1: And that's probably my biggest takeaway offensively. We knew Missouri
- 2:16Speaker 1: was going to sell out to stop Jaden Ball.
- 2:18Speaker 2: Everybody knew that.
- 2:19Speaker 1: If you watched one second of Florida Ole Miss, you
- 2:22Speaker 1: knew what Missouri's defense was going to do. You knew
- 2:26Speaker 1: what their game plan was going to be. Make Aaron
- 2:28Speaker 1: Philo beat us. Make Florida win without running the football.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Florida couldn't do it. Now, I'm not putting this whole
- 2:34Speaker 1: thing on Philo. There are some throws that he would
- 2:37Speaker 1: probably like back and there were some opportunities that were missed,
- 2:40Speaker 1: but there were also protection problems and there were penalties,
- 2:43Speaker 1: lots of penalties.
- 2:45Speaker 2: There were drops.
- 2:46Speaker 1: VB3 wasn't available and Florida spent most of the afternoon
- 2:49Speaker 1: playing behind the chains. Philo eventually was put into a
- 2:53Speaker 1: situation where Missouri knew Florida had to throw the football
- 2:56Speaker 1: and that is a terrible situation for any quarterback. But
- 3:01Speaker 1: I think what bothered me the most was that Florida
- 3:03Speaker 1: never found plan B. If Baugh isn't working, what is
- 3:07Speaker 1: the counterpunch? Where was Duke Clark? He only had one carry.
- 3:11Speaker 1: This is the guy who ran all over Ole Miss
- 3:13Speaker 1: a week ago. Missouri was loading the box.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Fine. Then get the ball outside. Use Clark. Use the perimeter.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Use screens. Use motion. Make them defend the entire field.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Once Florida realized it couldn't run Baugh straight into that
- 3:26Speaker 1: Missouri front, the entire offense felt like it just kind
- 3:30Speaker 1: of lost its identity.
- 3:32Speaker 2: And then there's the defense. And this one is probably
- 3:34Speaker 2: even more concerning.
- 3:36Speaker 1: We've talked a lot about this secondary, and we've talked
- 3:39Speaker 1: about giving up explosive plays. We've talked about Florida's ability
- 3:42Speaker 1: to survive some of those mistakes because the pass rush
- 3:45Speaker 1: was getting home. Today, the pass rush couldn't save them.
- 3:49Speaker 1: And Austin Simmons absolutely picked Florida apart, 23 of 30,
- 3:52Speaker 1: 340 yards, and he made it look easy.
- 3:53Speaker 2: Their guys were running open.
- 3:59Speaker 1: There were lots of busted coverages. Florida wasn't getting enough, really,
- 4:04Speaker 1: any pressure. I don't understand only rushing for 90% of
- 4:09Speaker 1: the time.
- 4:10Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Missouri just kept attacking. And then, almost unbelievably, after Missouri
- 4:16Speaker 1: had already thrown the football all over the field, Florida
- 4:20Speaker 1: completely collapsed against the run, too. Jamal Roberts had 44
- 4:24Speaker 1: yards in his first 17 carries.
- 4:25Speaker 2: 44. And then he goes 77 yards.
- 4:29Speaker 1: And then basically the next time Missouri touches the football,
- 4:31Speaker 1: he goes 80 for a touchdown.
- 4:33Speaker 2: That's 157 yards on two plays.
- 4:37Speaker 1: At that point, this thing kind of went from being
- 4:39Speaker 1: a bad loss to just an embarrassment.
- 4:42Speaker 2: And here's the part that really bothers me.
- 4:44Speaker 1: The game was 10-10 with four minutes and 26 seconds
- 4:47Speaker 1: left in the second quarter.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Think about that. Florida hadn't played particularly well.
- 4:51Speaker 1: The run game wasn't going. The defense had already given
- 4:54Speaker 1: up a couple explosives. But yet, you are tied 10-10
- 4:57Speaker 1: on the road. You're the number eight team in the country.
- 5:02Speaker 1: Find a way to get into halftime. Instead, Missouri scored
- 5:06Speaker 1: 10 points before half. Then they come out after halftime
- 5:10Speaker 1: and they score another touchdown. So in that middle eight,
- 5:14Speaker 1: which I have preached on this channel for years, is
- 5:18Speaker 1: so important. And Florida's done an incredible job in the
- 5:21Speaker 1: first four games of the season. But Florida went from
- 5:25Speaker 1: 10 and 10 to 27 and 10 in the middle eight.
- 5:30Speaker 2: That was the football game.
- 5:32Speaker 1: We talked all last week about how good the middle
- 5:35Speaker 1: eight was against Ole Miss, how Florida just absolutely dominated there. Today,
- 5:40Speaker 1: Missouri punched Florida right in the mouth during that exact
- 5:43Speaker 1: stretch and Florida never recovered. That is what good teams
- 5:49Speaker 1: cannot allow to happen. We're going to take a quick
- 5:52Speaker 1: break from this video because I want to talk to
- 5:53Speaker 1: you guys about something exciting. We are now available on
- 5:56Speaker 1: Apple Podcasts and Spotify. You guys have asked for a
- 5:59Speaker 1: really long time if we could have an audio option.
- 6:01Speaker 1: We have it there for you now. If there is
- 6:03Speaker 1: an audio platform that is not one of those two
- 6:05Speaker 1: that we should be on, let me know down in
- 6:07Speaker 1: the comments and I'll do my best to get on
- 6:09Speaker 1: there as well. You guys have asked for it. We
- 6:11Speaker 1: tried to answer. So making sure everybody can listen to
- 6:13Speaker 1: us any way that you enjoy your podcasts. So I
- 6:18Speaker 1: know everybody is going to ask the obvious question tonight,
- 6:21Speaker 1: and that is, was Florida overrated? Maybe.
- 6:25Speaker 2: At number eight, yeah, probably.
- 6:27Speaker 1: And I think that's okay to say because Florida earned
- 6:30Speaker 1: that number eight ranking by beating Ole Miss the way
- 6:33Speaker 1: that they did. But rankings in September and early October
- 6:37Speaker 1: are essentially snapshots. We found out today that Florida is
- 6:41Speaker 1: absolutely not a finished product, not even close.
- 6:44Speaker 2: But here's also where I'm not going to go.
- 6:47Speaker 1: I am not going to sit here and say that
- 6:48Speaker 1: everything we saw the first four games was fake. I
- 6:50Speaker 1: think that's ridiculous too. Florida still beat Auburn. They destroyed
- 6:54Speaker 1: Ole Miss. They still started 4-0. John Summerall did something
- 6:59Speaker 1: astounding in those first four games, and he didn't suddenly
- 7:01Speaker 1: forget how to coach football because his team got their
- 7:04Speaker 1: butt kicked in Columbia. Aaron Philo didn't suddenly become a
- 7:08Speaker 1: bad quarterback. Jaden Baas didn't suddenly become a bad running back.
- 7:13Speaker 1: But Florida got a really loud reminder today that turning
- 7:16Speaker 1: this program around is not.
- 7:18Speaker 2: Going to happen in four weeks. And you know what?
- 7:21Speaker 2: Maybe we needed that reminder. The hype got big this week.
- 7:25Speaker 1: How many times did you hear, Florida's back, we're a
- 7:27Speaker 1: top 10 team, we're a playoff contender, that 60% chance
- 7:31Speaker 1: to make the playoffs if they just win on the
- 7:33Speaker 1: road at Ole Miss, or excuse me, Missouri. Summerall is
- 7:37Speaker 1: coach of the year. And listen, I was excited too.
- 7:41Speaker 1: I actually am kind of mad at myself because I
- 7:43Speaker 1: maintained all summer long that Florida would beat Auburn and
- 7:46Speaker 1: they would beat Ole Miss, but they would go on
- 7:48Speaker 1: the road to Missouri.
- 7:49Speaker 2: And they would lose. Last week, I drank a little
- 7:52Speaker 2: bit of the Kool-Aid.
- 7:53Speaker 1: I got excited in the way that we did beat
- 7:55Speaker 1: Ole Miss, and I changed my prediction to have Florida
- 7:58Speaker 1: winning this game incredibly close.
- 8:00Speaker 2: I'm mad at myself. I knew this probably was going
- 8:02Speaker 2: to happen. And you know what? I still have Florida
- 8:05Speaker 2: winning eight or nine games at the end of the year.
- 8:08Speaker 1: I don't begrudge anybody who got excited about what this
- 8:13Speaker 1: team could do. How could you not after what happened
- 8:15Speaker 1: against Ole Miss?
- 8:16Speaker 2: I got excited.
- 8:18Speaker 1: But college football will humble you very, very quickly. And
- 8:22Speaker 1: Florida got humbled today badly. But what is important now
- 8:26Speaker 1: is how John Summerall responds. This is where we can
- 8:29Speaker 1: really learn something about him. It's easy to lead when
- 8:32Speaker 1: you are 4-0 and everybody loves you. It's easy when
- 8:35Speaker 1: the swamp is rocking and you're beating the number four
- 8:38Speaker 1: team in the country by 24 points. Now you've been embarrassed.
- 8:42Speaker 1: Now people are questioning you. Now your players are going
- 8:46Speaker 1: to see people saying that they are overrated. Now they're
- 8:49Speaker 1: going to hear that that ass-kicking of Ole Miss was
- 8:51Speaker 1: a fluke. Now they're going to watch themselves tumble down
- 8:54Speaker 1: in the rankings. What happens next? South Carolina comes to
- 8:59Speaker 1: Gainesville next week. And after that, the schedule gets nasty. Texas, Georgia, Oklahoma.
- 9:06Speaker 1: This thing can go one of two directions really quickly.
- 9:10Speaker 1: Florida can look at this game, identify exactly why Missouri
- 9:14Speaker 1: dominated them, fix what is fixable, and get back to
- 9:18Speaker 1: playing the physical football we saw through the first month
- 9:21Speaker 1: of the season.
- 9:22Speaker 2: Or this can linger. And if it lingers, October could
- 9:27Speaker 2: get ugly fast.
- 9:28Speaker 1: And I think the biggest thing Summerall has to address
- 9:31Speaker 1: is something that he actually talked about this week. He
- 9:34Speaker 1: said tough teams win, selfless teams win, teams with an
- 9:38Speaker 1: edge win, soft teams lose. Well, Florida looks soft today.
- 9:43Speaker 1: And I don't say that lightly. Missouri controlled the line
- 9:46Speaker 1: of scrimmage. Florida couldn't run it. Florida couldn't protect consistently.
- 9:49Speaker 1: Florida couldn't pressure Simmons consistently. Missouri's receivers ran through the secondary.
- 9:56Speaker 1: And by the fourth quarter, Missouri's running backs were running
- 9:59Speaker 1: through Florida too. That is about as complete a physical
- 10:02Speaker 1: beating as Florida has taken in a while.
- 10:04Speaker 2: And that's why this one stings. If you're going to build.
- 10:07Speaker 1: Your entire program around toughness, then when somebody beats you
- 10:11Speaker 1: physically like that, you have to own it.
- 10:13Speaker 2: And I'm pretty sure Coach Summerall will.
- 10:15Speaker 1: I'll be really interested to hear more about what he
- 10:18Speaker 1: says as the next couple of games go on because
- 10:21Speaker 1: I don't expect excuses.
- 10:23Speaker 2: And there shouldn't be any. Sure, BB3 was out.
- 10:26Speaker 1: But BB3 isn't responsible for giving up 45 points. He's
- 10:29Speaker 1: not responsible for 560 yards. He's not responsible for Florida
- 10:32Speaker 1: getting whipped at the line of scrimmage. Missouri was simply
- 10:35Speaker 1: better today, period. But I do want to mention one
- 10:38Speaker 1: thing at the end. Tramell Jones came into an impossible
- 10:42Speaker 1: situation late and led a touchdown drive. The game was
- 10:45Speaker 1: completely over, so I'm not going to make it into
- 10:47Speaker 1: something bigger than it was, but those reps are important
- 10:50Speaker 1: for a young quarterback, and it was good to see
- 10:51Speaker 1: him come in and compete.
- 10:53Speaker 2: Beyond that, honestly, burn the tape. Actually, you know what? Don't.
- 10:57Speaker 2: Don't burn it.
- 10:58Speaker 1: Watch every second of it on repeat, because there is
- 11:01Speaker 1: a lot Florida needs to learn from this game. They're 4-1.
- 11:05Speaker 1: The season is not over. The John Sumrall era is
- 11:08Speaker 1: not suddenly a failure. The Ole Miss win didn't disappear.
- 11:12Speaker 1: But the margin of error got smaller. And maybe more importantly,
- 11:16Speaker 1: the honeymoon phase is officially over.
- 11:18Speaker 2: We've spent the.
- 11:18Speaker 1: First month learning how good Florida can be when everything
- 11:22Speaker 1: is clicking. Today we learned what Florida looks like when
- 11:25Speaker 1: somebody takes away its strength and forces it to find
- 11:27Speaker 1: another way.
- 11:28Speaker 2: They couldn't.
- 11:30Speaker 1: Now it's on John Summerall and his staff to figure
- 11:32Speaker 1: out what the answer is. Because South Carolina's next. And
- 11:34Speaker 1: Texas and Georgia are waiting right behind them. Florida just
- 11:38Speaker 1: got punched in the mouth. And now we are going
- 11:40Speaker 1: to find out how this team responds. And for the
- 11:43Speaker 1: first time in the John Summerall era, we're going to
- 11:45Speaker 1: find out what the Gators look like after a loss. Guys,
- 11:50Speaker 1: let me know in the comments, what were you most
- 11:53Speaker 1: surprised by or disappointed by? Was there something that just
- 11:56Speaker 1: completely caught you off guard? I want to know down
- 11:58Speaker 1: in the comments. A big thank you to our partners
- 12:00Speaker 1: over at PrizePix. Don't forget, guys, you can download the app,
