- 0:00Speaker 1: Good afternoon, everybody.
- 0:01Speaker 2: Welcome to the program on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred design.
- 0:06Speaker 1: I know that was a little cheehy on nine part.
- 0:08Speaker 1: Sorry about that.
- 0:09Speaker 2: That's what happens when you fly home from doing a
- 0:15Speaker 2: basketball game that had a nine o'clock started in Las
- 0:19Speaker 2: Vegas last night and we landed in the wee wee
- 0:23Speaker 2: hours of the morning. We, of course, we welcome to
- 0:26Speaker 2: the program here on Sports Radio AM thirteen under the Zone.
- 0:29Speaker 2: My name is Craig Wait, thank you much for joining us.
- 0:32Speaker 2: We of course includes the producer, and that's Cameron D. Parker.
- 0:37Speaker 2: The D on the birth certificate stands for Dallas, as
- 0:41Speaker 2: he was named for his favorite football team.
- 0:43Speaker 1: That is woe be gone at the moment.
- 0:48Speaker 2: But the D could stand for doubling down, as we
- 0:53Speaker 2: were in Las Vegas, but neither of us went to
- 0:55Speaker 2: the tables, at least I didn't.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Did you go late Sunday night to the tables? Camp?
- 1:00Speaker 1: All right?
- 1:01Speaker 3: If I tried to get chips, my bank account decline.
- 1:05Speaker 2: I understand, I understand, so too much a month left
- 1:08Speaker 2: at the end of the money, as the old saying goes.
- 1:12Speaker 2: So the D could stand for delirious because we got
- 1:16Speaker 2: in in the wee wee hours of the morning and
- 1:19Speaker 2: then each of us driving home to Williamson County. But
- 1:23Speaker 2: today is an importantday, obviously, election day, and hopefully you
- 1:28Speaker 2: were able to exercise your constitutional right and vote for
- 1:32Speaker 2: the candidate and issues of your choosing and and it's
- 1:37Speaker 2: a pretty important day. I think we're all aware of that,
- 1:41Speaker 2: and we'll see how it goes tonight. I was joking.
- 1:47Speaker 2: I was with regard to the earth shattering importance of
- 1:56Speaker 2: the first reveal of the college football playoff right by
- 2:00Speaker 2: the College Football Playoff Committee. I was only joking because
- 2:03Speaker 2: this is the first one. Now you get me in
- 2:04Speaker 2: the first week in December. Might be a different issue,
- 2:06Speaker 2: depending on what the field of twelve looks like. We'll
- 2:09Speaker 2: talk about that. Since the announcement comes down at six
- 2:13Speaker 2: o'clock Texas time tonight, we'll do that. There are college
- 2:18Speaker 2: football notes to take. We'll hear some more of the
- 2:22Speaker 2: conversation from Long Wrns head coach Steve Sarkisian from yesterday,
- 2:25Speaker 2: so we'll do that. Additionally, we'll hear from Long Oarns
- 2:30Speaker 2: head coach Rodney Terry after the Texas basketball team opening
- 2:34Speaker 2: season last night in the Hall of Fame Series in
- 2:37Speaker 2: Las Vegas, Nevada an eighty to seventy two loss to
- 2:40Speaker 2: Ohio State.
- 2:42Speaker 1: The problem shooting the basketball in large measure.
- 2:44Speaker 2: Hard to win games when you shoot thirty seven percent,
- 2:46Speaker 2: and that was the biggest issue that in the fact
- 2:49Speaker 2: that Ohio State was just lights out on fire from
- 2:55Speaker 2: three point range, hit nine of their first twelve beyond
- 2:58Speaker 2: the arc of seventeen in the first half. Now they
- 3:01Speaker 2: only hit four in the second half. But in the end,
- 3:05Speaker 2: in the final analysis, when you look at those numbers,
- 3:08Speaker 2: each team took twenty eight three point shots. The Buckeyes
- 3:12Speaker 2: hit half of theirs fourteen, The Longhorns had half of that,
- 3:15Speaker 2: they had seven.
- 3:16Speaker 1: It's a big part of it, wasn't all of it.
- 3:19Speaker 2: And we'll hear from Rodney Terry talking about it as well,
- 3:23Speaker 2: So we'll get to those issues.
- 3:28Speaker 1: So we'll talk about that.
- 3:30Speaker 2: And there is NFL to discuss as well, because now
- 3:37Speaker 2: that the Monday night football game, and Cameron was really
- 3:41Speaker 2: adept at not only engineering our basketball broadcast from Las
- 3:46Speaker 2: Vegas last night, but he had the Monday night football
- 3:49Speaker 2: game working on the computer as well, So who was
- 3:53Speaker 2: keeping track of Chiefs Bucks? Was that from a fantasy
- 3:57Speaker 2: football perspective.
- 3:58Speaker 3: Or you were just following, just following watching the Chiefs
- 4:01Speaker 3: to somehow just every week turnout another win. They might
- 4:06Speaker 3: be the most the least impressive eight to no team
- 4:10Speaker 3: of all time. I mean, they don't win these games
- 4:14Speaker 3: with I don't know the Chiefs have have covered this year.
- 4:17Speaker 3: I think they were a touchdown and they have one
- 4:19Speaker 3: by seven with overtime. I thought they were over seven
- 4:22Speaker 3: and a half point favorite in this game. A lot
- 4:24Speaker 3: of games they have not covered against the spread, but
- 4:26Speaker 3: they keep on winning. And it just seems like no
- 4:29Speaker 3: matter how many injuries, or if it's raining, if it's pouring,
- 4:31Speaker 3: that the Chiefs grind out a win. I mean, at
- 4:34Speaker 3: one moment, Mahomes is being help off the field and
- 4:38Speaker 3: then he's back out there and leads to the game
- 4:40Speaker 3: winning drive in overtime.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Yeah, you know they they The Chiefs kind of remind
- 4:48Speaker 2: me of some defending Super Bowl champions of the past
- 4:54Speaker 2: who are good enough to get through some the difficulties
- 5:01Speaker 2: but don't necessarily look like world beaters on a weekend,
- 5:06Speaker 2: week out basis.
- 5:07Speaker 1: Yet they keep winning.
- 5:09Speaker 2: And that includes teams like the Cowboys' second Super Bowl,
- 5:14Speaker 2: the ninety three team that started owing two when Mmon
- 5:17Speaker 2: Smith was doing the holdout. It reminds me of a
- 5:19Speaker 2: couple of the Steelers teams of the late seventies that
- 5:24Speaker 2: went through that even as they were defending Super Bowl champion.
- 5:27Speaker 2: It reminds me even of the Green Bay Packers, their
- 5:31Speaker 2: Super Bowl two championship team coming off Super Bowl One,
- 5:34Speaker 2: which had that team had been really impressive and then
- 5:37Speaker 2: they just kind of struggled and stumbled through some things,
- 5:41Speaker 2: and yet when the smoke cleared there they were So anyway,
- 5:46Speaker 2: there was a lot of that, but they know how
- 5:51Speaker 2: to get it done. They know what they're supposed to do.
- 5:53Speaker 2: So we'll see how it is going forward on that.
- 5:58Speaker 2: But as always, we open up the text line for
- 6:03Speaker 2: your questions. All you have to do is text the
- 6:06Speaker 2: word Texas followed by your question or comment to eight
- 6:09Speaker 2: one five three zero. So again, just text the word
- 6:16Speaker 2: Texas followed by your question comment to eight one five
- 6:20Speaker 2: three zero. Standard messaging and data rates may apply, so
- 6:25Speaker 2: we'll you know, we can get to your questions. And
- 6:29Speaker 2: like I said, there's a lot to get through with
- 6:31Speaker 2: regard to the University of Texas football, men's basketball, and the
- 6:35Speaker 2: first college football playoff rankings are coming down.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Do you have any any predictions for the first rankings?
- 6:47Speaker 2: You know, it's kind of I'm I'm kind of interested
- 6:53Speaker 2: to see how the ten is rated out of this,
- 7:02Speaker 2: because you could have four teams right now in the
- 7:07Speaker 2: playoff good four teams in the top ten, even with Oregon,
- 7:11Speaker 2: Ohio State, Penn State in Indiana.
- 7:14Speaker 1: You could The question is will all four be in?
- 7:18Speaker 2: That's got me curious as well as obviously you know
- 7:22Speaker 2: the SEC the ACC where Notre Dame is where the
- 7:27Speaker 2: G five, the top G five program would be, and
- 7:29Speaker 2: right now that would be Boise State, who is ranked
- 7:34Speaker 2: and I think it's eleven in the polls, so they
- 7:37Speaker 2: would be in the in the college Football playoff ranking.
- 7:41Speaker 2: And I also want to make sure that that I
- 7:43Speaker 2: think folks know this, and I think they understand this,
- 7:46Speaker 2: even in this first year of the twelve team playoff,
- 7:52Speaker 2: I think folks understand that the AP rankings are going
- 7:58Speaker 2: to be different.
- 8:00Speaker 1: There's a good chance there's a good chance that.
- 8:07Speaker 2: The AP rankings are going to be a lot different,
- 8:12Speaker 2: or at least somewhat different than the College Football playoff ranks.
- 8:16Speaker 2: They might not be that different right now, but certainly
- 8:21Speaker 2: when it gets down toward the end, keeping in mind
- 8:24Speaker 2: that a G five school is going to go into
- 8:26Speaker 2: the top twelve whether or not they are ranked there.
- 8:32Speaker 2: You know, going into the final weekend, the conference champion,
- 8:36Speaker 2: the highest ranked conference champion is going to get into
- 8:39Speaker 2: the top twelve. They will have a slot, even if
- 8:41Speaker 2: it is at number twelve. And that's what most folks
- 8:44Speaker 2: seem to think. But I would say this, if Boise
- 8:46Speaker 2: State continues to play well and wins and wins out
- 8:48Speaker 2: and that only loss is a narrow loss to Oregon,
- 8:51Speaker 2: I think they're going to not only be in, they'll
- 8:54Speaker 2: be in on their own merit, and it could possibly
- 8:58Speaker 2: even open up the door for another champion.
- 9:01Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 9:02Speaker 2: We'll have to see how teams do down the stretch
- 9:04Speaker 2: of this, but I am kind of curious to see
- 9:08Speaker 2: what these first rankings reveal. And there's a lot to discuss.
- 9:12Speaker 2: So we're gonna we're gonna get to that. We'll discuss
- 9:14Speaker 2: those things, we'll get to your questions. We're gonna hear
- 9:17Speaker 2: from Sark, We're gonna hear from also Rodney Terry. So
- 9:21Speaker 2: we'll do all that and more here on election Day
- 9:25Speaker 2: on Tuesday, and I hope it's going well for you
- 9:27Speaker 2: here right here on sports Radio AM thirteen under the
- 9:30Speaker 2: zone of the iHeartRadio app.
