- 0:30roads by Jane Reid Climb. April second, twenty twenty five,
- 0:34the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet announced Washington County will be receiving
- 0:39over one point three million dollars for local roadways. The
- 0:43announcement came at the Washington County Fiscal Court meeting on Friday,
- 0:47March eighteenth. The state has allocated five hundred forty three
- 0:51thousand dollars to resurface just over six miles of Kentucky
- 0:55four thirty eight Maze Creek Road from Highway five to
- 0:58fifty five to Highway one fifty two, which is Maxwell Road.
- 1:03An additional one hundred thirty three thousand, two hundred five
- 1:06dollars has been allocated for a one point two mile
- 1:09section of the Retto Road, or Kentucky one fifty two. Additionally,
- 1:15five hundred twenty three thousand dollars from the Rural Secondary
- 1:18Roads Program has been designated for routine maintenance of county roads,
- 1:23one hundred and seventeen thousand, one hundred ninety eight dollars
- 1:26in flex funds and three thousand, eight hundred seventy five
- 1:30dollars for county judge executives expenses related to road maintenance,
- 1:35for a total of one million, three hundred twenty thousand,
- 1:39three hundred and seventy eight dollars. The Rural Secondary Roads
- 1:44Program is funded by twenty two percent of the motor
- 1:47fuel task receipts of the state. Funds for routine maintenance
- 1:51are allocated to all one hundred twenty counties based on
- 1:54a five point formula, one fifth equally among all counties,
- 1:59one fifth based on rural population, one fifth based on
- 2:02road miles, and two fifths based on land area. The
- 2:06money designated for each county is based on estimates of
- 2:10motor fuel tax receipts for the fiscal year. This money
- 2:14is sent to the county in three installments. In August,
- 2:18the county receives sixty percent of the money allocated another
- 2:22thirty percent is received in late winter early spring. The
- 2:25remaining ten percent is dispersed in June and is adjusted
- 2:29based on actual fuel tax receipts for the year. County
- 2:33Judge Executive Tim Graves said he is happy with the
- 2:36money that has been allocated for Washington County. Also at
- 2:40Friday's meeting, Sheriff Jerry Pinkston presented the court with a
- 2:44check for ten thousand dollars for excess fees as a
- 2:47sheriff's office. The sheriff's office is funded by the county,
- 2:52and each year, the sheriff's office budget is set by
- 2:54the Court and the county budget for the fiscal year.
- 2:57At the end of the calendar year, if the shafre
- 3:00has collected more than the amount estimated in the budget,
- 3:04he gives any access back to the county. The Court
- 3:08also received a draft of a jail budget for fiscal
- 3:10year twenty twenty five through twenty twenty six. Graves explained
- 3:15that the county jailer must submit this budget before April first.
- 3:19This preliminary budget is then incorporated into the county's overall budget.
- 3:24One adjustment was proposed to Jailer Joe Mudd's budget mud
- 3:28estimated five hundred forty thousand dollars per contracts with nearby
- 3:33counties to house Washington County inmates. Those contracts are so
- 3:38much per day per inmate there is no way to
- 3:41know how many individuals will be incarcerated over the course
- 3:44of the year or how long they will be in custody.
- 3:48Judge Graves said he lowered that to five hundred thousand
- 3:51based on this year's expense in this category. The budget
- 3:55could be amended further at the budget workshop on May third,
- 3:58when Graves and County mad Distress will develop the county
- 4:01budget for twenty twenty five through twenty twenty six. At
- 4:06the last meeting, discussion was held about a loader at
- 4:09the transfer station that was in need of a repair
- 4:12to an arm of the loader that was causing other
- 4:14parts to break. The county voted to replace the arm
- 4:17rather than repair it, but Judge Graves was informed the
- 4:21wait for the replacement part was over a year, so
- 4:24a repair was planned. In the meantime, the loader broke
- 4:27down yet again. Graves that the loader is currently at
- 4:30a shop being repaired, and a rental unit is being
- 4:34used at the transfer station until repairs are complete. Magistrates
- 4:38previously approved twenty eight thousand dollars for the repairs to
- 4:42the loader. The county opened bids for blacktop to resurface
- 4:46county roads. Hayden Materials was the only bidder and was
- 4:50awarded the contract at one hundred four dollars per time.
- 4:54Bids for knowing that the Judicial Center were also opened.
- 4:58The contract was awarded to Jeremy Smith at sixty dollars
- 5:01per mowing. Smith will maintain the grass areas around the
- 5:05Judicial Center and parking lot. Graves announts to the court
- 5:09that the Saint Ivor Bridge work is complete. Last year,
- 5:13the county received a grant to install a gas line
- 5:16or gas lines to the area of Maxville Road where
- 5:19the distilleries are locating. Graves said work has begun on
- 5:22those installations. He also announced the county has received the
- 5:26salt that was ordered and it is available for the
- 5:29next winter storm. The court was updated on construction of
- 5:36the new Emergency Services building. Graves said the project is
- 5:40on schedule and under budget. The next meeting of the

- 11:00Recovery client arrested by Jane Reid Clins. March thirty first,
- 11:04twenty twenty five, a client at the Crown Recovery Center
- 11:08was arrested by Springfield Police after leaving the facility and
- 11:12creating a disturbance of the roundabout in front of the
- 11:15Saint Catherine's Motherhouse. In the Sheriff's reports to Fiscal Court,
- 11:18it was noted that six arrest had been made at
- 11:21the Crown Recovery Center in March, prompting questions about the
- 11:24incident at the roundabout in front of the Saint Catherine
- 11:27Motherhouse on Monday, March twenty fourth. That incident was not
- 11:31handled by the Sheriff's office, but rather by the Springfield
- 11:33Police Department, so Sheriff Pinkston could offer little information to
- 11:37the court. According to Springfield Police Chief Siue Mud, an
- 11:42individual who arrived at Crown on Sunday decided he wished
- 11:46to leave the drug abuse treatment facility on Monday morning.
- 11:49He refused Crown's offers to drive him to a safe location,
- 11:53choosing to walk. Mud said this individual was in the roundabout,
- 11:57disrupting traffic and making no saint gestures towards motors. When
- 12:00her officers responded, officers attempted to get him to safety,
- 12:04and again Crown offered transport. The individual ran into the
- 12:09roadway and had to be restrained. A taser was deployed
- 12:12and the man was arrested. Mud said. The man was
- 12:15charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. He pled guilty
- 12:19to the charges that afternoon and served five days. He
- 12:23was released on Friday. The six arrests made by the
- 12:26Sheriff's office were on outstanding warrants from other jurisdictions for
- 12:30clients getting treatment at the facility corruption. Last week in
- 12:38the Sun we reported that the main breaker for the
- 12:40electricity to the boat dock at Willisburg had been removed
- 12:43in the hall by then city Councilman Penny Stein for
- 12:46safety reasons. That was incorrect. Previously, Danny's Marina, formerly at
- 12:51Willisburg Lake, ran extension cords to the dock. An employee
- 12:55of Dawn's Marina installed electrical outlets at the dock for
- 12:58voters to recharge marine batteries. In the fall, the Willisburg
- 13:03City Council was made aware that the wiring was improperly installed.
- 13:07Animals were chewing into the wires, creating safety concerns. The
- 13:11council voted to pull the breaker for safety issues until
- 13:15wiring could be repaired. Stein went to the lake to
- 13:18pull the breaker. The Carla Ruble, owner of Don's Marina, refused.
- 13:22She signed a letter stating the refusal and that she
- 13:25would turn off the individual breakers. At the March to
- 13:28Willisburg City Council meeting, Rubel and her daughter stated the
- 13:32main breaker had been pulled and they wished to restore
- 13:35electricity to the dock area. The council voted to ask
- 13:39Mike Halsey to examine the wiring at the lake and
- 13:42make recommendations. Republicans elect local officers by Jane Reclimb April first.
