- 0:00Podcasthero.com Welcome to The Daily Quote, the podcast
- 0:06designed to kick start your day in a positive way.
- 0:11I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and this episode is brought to
- 0:13you by the Great News Podcast. Link is in the show notes.
- 0:19Today's quote has been attributed to Will Rogers for
- 0:22decades. And while the original source
- 0:24can't be 100% verified, it's so perfectly captures the spirit of
- 0:30the man, and it's hard to imagine it belonging to anyone
- 0:33else. Rogers was a Cherokee cowboy
- 0:35philosopher who dropped out of school in the 10th grade to
- 0:39become a cowboy, went on to travel the world three times,
- 0:43make 71 movies and write more than 4000 nationally syndicated
- 0:48newspaper columns. He was a man who never once sat
- 0:52still. He may or may not have said even
- 0:59if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just
- 1:03sit there. The first half of that sentence
- 1:07is what most people want to be on the right track.
- 1:11Direction confirmed, values aligned, half chosen and pointed
- 1:17the right way. And then the second-half takes
- 1:21the comfort away completely. You'll get run over if you just
- 1:25sit there, because being right about the direction is only half
- 1:29the equation. The other half, the half that
- 1:32most people underestimate, is continuous forward movement.
- 1:37The track doesn't carry you, you have to move yourself.
- 1:43Think about what's sitting on the track actually looks like in
- 1:46the real world. The person with the right
- 1:49business idea who keeps refining the plan instead of launching.
- 1:54The person in the right relationship who stops investing
- 1:58in it because the foundation feels so solid.
- 2:03The person who found the right career path and then coasted,
- 2:07assuming that being in the right place was enough to make things
- 2:10happen. The business owner who was in
- 2:14the right industry at the right time but doesn't make the sales
- 2:18calls thinking the product will just sell itself.
- 2:24The direction was correct, but the momentum never started.
- 2:28And if you can't get up to speed and you get run over.
- 2:34Rodgers understood this from experience.
- 2:37He put in the hard work and the long hours to succeed.
- 2:41He wasn't just philosophically committed to forward motion.
- 2:45He lived it. He wrote books, articles, a
- 2:48syndicated newspaper column, frequently performed on radio
- 2:52and was a popular after dinner speaker, all simultaneously, all
- 2:57at full speed, right up until the plane crash in Alaska that
- 3:02ended his life at 55. He never coasted.
- 3:06He never sat still. The right track is a gift, but
- 3:10it's not a guarantee. It's the beginning of the work,
- 3:14not the end of it. So here's the question.
- 3:18Where in your life are you currently on the right track but
- 3:23not doing the work to pick up the speed and get some momentum?
- 3:28Just assuming the right direction is enough.
- 3:31Because Roger's warning isn't about people heading the wrong
- 3:34way. It's for people who got that
- 3:37part right who found the track and then stopped.
- 3:42The ones who most need to hear it are the ones who the least
- 3:46expect to. You found the track now keep
- 3:50moving, do the hard work. That's it for today.
- 3:55I'm Andrew McGivern, signing off for now, but I'll be back
- 4:01tomorrow. Same pod time, same pod station
- 4:06with another daily quote.
