- 0:01Speaker 1: Altitude Sports Radio 92.5's Pro Football Insider.
- 0:06Speaker 2: I know what my eyes tell me.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Jeff Legwald.
- 0:09Speaker 2: I look at it a lot and I ask a
- 0:11Speaker 2: lot of people.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Brought to you by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
- 0:15Speaker 1: Start with a job, end with a career. IBEW Local 68.
- 0:18Speaker 1: It's Leggy.
- 0:20Speaker 3: Jeff, Jeff, Jeff.
- 0:21Speaker 1: On Altitude Sports Radio 92.5.
- 0:24Speaker 4: You know, he continues to have those touches and then
- 0:31Speaker 4: where you want to even get him more touches. That's
- 0:33Speaker 4: sometimes a challenge, but certainly he's deserving. You say that
- 0:38Speaker 4: a lot, Sean.
- 0:39Speaker 5: What?
- 0:39Speaker 3: To get Marvin more touches. I know.
- 0:43Speaker 2: What's the barrier?
- 0:44Speaker 4: Well, sometimes it's coverage, right? And then, you know, it's
- 0:54Speaker 4: trying to find those personnel groupings where, you know, we've
- 0:58Speaker 4: got a number of guys that are starting to, that
- 1:00Speaker 4: are healthy and playing well. So hopefully we can find
- 1:06Speaker 4: those opportunities.
- 1:08Speaker 6: That's Sean Payton and that was Jeff Legwald who joins
- 1:10Speaker 6: us now on the Ramos Law Hotline. Car accident, you
- 1:13Speaker 6: need Ramos Law. Medical doctor and attorney, RamosLaw.com. Leggy, how
- 1:16Speaker 6: are we doing this morning?
- 1:18Speaker 2: Great, how are you guys?
- 1:20Speaker 3: Good.
- 1:21Speaker 6: Let's just start here. I know you have to take
- 1:24Speaker 6: the opponent into account for stuff like this, but did
- 1:28Speaker 6: the offense turn maybe a little bit of a corner
- 1:31Speaker 6: last week, or was that just a bad opponent that
- 1:34Speaker 6: you took advantage of?
- 1:36Speaker 2: Probably a little of both. You know, I, I think,
- 1:39Speaker 2: you know, anytime, you know, that, that whole deal that
- 1:44Speaker 2: confidence is driven by, you actually make something happen to,
- 1:49Speaker 2: to give you confidence. So I think that the fact
- 1:52Speaker 2: they were able to, to finally, uh, uncork some big plays,
- 1:58Speaker 2: that's always going to help, no matter who you're playing.
- 2:01Speaker 2: And the fact that you do it and it ends
- 2:03Speaker 2: up being a two-touchdown win, I think that does help.
- 2:08Speaker 2: I mean, they still wake up today and Bo Nix
- 2:13Speaker 2: is near the bottom of almost every advanced metric you
- 2:19Speaker 2: can have for a quarterback, and the offense is still
- 2:23Speaker 2: down among the teams that are struggling. So in the
- 2:28Speaker 2: big picture, probably not fixed, but in the short term,
- 2:31Speaker 2: it certainly gives them a boost and they at least
- 2:34Speaker 2: get a glimpse of what they can do if they
- 2:38Speaker 2: can just put together, especially on third down, do a
- 2:43Speaker 2: little better on third down, do a little better on
- 2:45Speaker 2: first down. Maybe it makes some things happen.
- 2:49Speaker 3: Jeffrey, is Jonah Coleman running back one?
- 2:53Speaker 2: Well, he probably won't start games, but I think they
- 2:59Speaker 2: answered that question, Vic, when they're trying to close it
- 3:03Speaker 2: out Sunday in Arizona, who was the guy on the field?
- 3:08Speaker 2: It was Jonah Coleman. I think it's intriguing. He's only
- 3:13Speaker 2: got 19 carries, but his percentage of runs of 10
- 3:18Speaker 2: or more yards is already one of the highest in
- 3:21Speaker 2: the league. So that gets your attention and I don't
- 3:25Speaker 2: care what team you are or what coach you are.
- 3:27Speaker 2: That that's the kind of stuff where you got to
- 3:29Speaker 2: raise your eyebrows and say, all right, that, that guy
- 3:32Speaker 2: probably needs to see the ball more, but you know, he,
- 3:36Speaker 2: the head coach loves JK Dobbins. Dobbins still does plenty
- 3:42Speaker 2: of good work in the offense. I think he will
- 3:45Speaker 2: be like the guy starting games and the, and the
- 3:48Speaker 2: first guy in the rotation, but Jonah Coleman's getting the
- 3:51Speaker 2: ball more, and that's just how it's going to be.
- 3:54Speaker 5: Jeff, it's weird. You're a journalist, so you've got to
- 3:56Speaker 5: do journalistic things. We just talk about stuff.
- 3:59Speaker 3: And I'll say this.
- 4:01Speaker 5: The shine has come off the Chiefs. I just don't
- 4:03Speaker 5: fear them anymore. I don't care what happened in week one.
- 4:05Speaker 5: Broncos didn't tackle, but they were at the point of attack.
- 4:07Speaker 5: I just don't. For some reason, I just, probably a
- 4:11Speaker 5: lot of good reasons, I just don't fear this team.
- 4:14Speaker 5: I feel really good about Sunday. That's how I feel.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Well, Mo, it's just a weird year for them already.
- 4:20Speaker 2: I mean, you got a story about an offensive tackle
- 4:24Speaker 2: being asked to leave a meeting because he won't take
- 4:28Speaker 2: his feet off the desk. You know, they work out
- 4:32Speaker 2: a kicker who was suspended for 10 games for off-the-field conduct.
- 4:39Speaker 2: You know, Mahomes looks frustrated at times because they don't,
- 4:44Speaker 2: You know, Kenneth Walker's been a revelation. Where would they
- 4:47Speaker 2: be without him? You know, had they not signed him,
- 4:51Speaker 2: this could really be something, you know, a little uglier.
- 4:56Speaker 2: But I think this is a textbook case of you're
- 5:00Speaker 2: a really good team and you had a really good run,
- 5:03Speaker 2: multiple championships, but you did not handle the draft well
- 5:09Speaker 2: to keep yourself up on the perch. We're for as
- 5:15Speaker 2: long as possible. I don't think they have drafted that well.
- 5:19Speaker 2: And I think it's starting to catch up with them,
- 5:21Speaker 2: but you know, we say all that all of us
- 5:24Speaker 2: and they're, they're five and one. So, you know, as
- 5:28Speaker 2: long as that guy's at quarterback, it's the great equalizer
- 5:34Speaker 2: in NFL history. If you've got one of the guys
- 5:37Speaker 2: at quarterback, he can, he can lift, he can clean
- 5:42Speaker 2: up a lot of the mess and, and, I think
- 5:45Speaker 2: Mahomes just has to more and more, and Walker's going
- 5:49Speaker 2: to have to stay healthy for them to maintain all this.
- 5:53Speaker 6: Jeff Legwald with us. All conversations with Leggy are brought
- 5:55Speaker 6: to you by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, IBEW
- 5:58Speaker 6: Local 68. Start with a job and with a career. Leggy,
- 6:02Speaker 6: how much of this game changes, at least based on feel,
- 6:05Speaker 6: if Zach Allen can't go?
- 6:07Speaker 2: Yeah, everything changes. He's having not just a Pro Bowl year,
- 6:12Speaker 2: he's having an All-Pro year, and A lot of what
- 6:16Speaker 2: they do up front is based on he's a high-volume
- 6:20Speaker 2: snap guy who plays really, really well on most of
- 6:25Speaker 2: those snaps. So I'll be interested to see today and tomorrow,
- 6:30Speaker 2: you know, what it looks like.
- 6:33Speaker 5: But is it that bad? I mean, it's a hammy, right?
- 6:36Speaker 3: Is it that bad? Hammies are hammy, dude. You know hammies.
- 6:38Speaker 3: Hammies take time. I don't care who you are.
- 6:42Speaker 2: Yeah, and, you know, it's– he– He, you know, obviously
- 6:46Speaker 2: something that came up because he finished things out Sunday
- 6:50Speaker 2: and had his usual snap count. But he did get
- 6:53Speaker 2: rolled up weird on one of the plays. And that probably,
- 6:58Speaker 2: you know, got worse on the flight home and then
- 7:01Speaker 2: on Monday. So, like I say, if he's moving around,
- 7:05Speaker 2: you know, at all as they go through stuff today
- 7:11Speaker 2: and tomorrow. But, you know, he wasn't really even off.
- 7:14Speaker 2: among the side group, which is usually the guys who
- 7:19Speaker 2: are getting ready to come back to practice.
- 7:22Speaker 3: I want to go back to your Q & A
- 7:24Speaker 3: with Sean Payton about the usage of Marvin Mims. Nellie,
- 7:27Speaker 3: if you can play that again, because I have a
- 7:29Speaker 3: particular question I want to target after hearing this. Hold, please.
- 7:38Speaker 4: Nellie continues to have those touches and then where you
- 7:43Speaker 4: want to even get him more touches. That's sometimes a challenge,
- 7:46Speaker 4: but certainly he's deserving. You say that a lot, Sean. What?
- 7:50Speaker 3: To get Marvin more touches.
- 7:52Speaker 4: I know.
- 7:54Speaker 2: What's the barrier?
- 7:56Speaker 4: Well, sometimes it's coverage, right? And then, you know, it's
- 8:06Speaker 4: trying to find those personnel groupings where, you know, we've
- 8:09Speaker 4: got a number of guys that are starting to, that
- 8:11Speaker 4: are healthy and playing well. So hopefully we can find
- 8:17Speaker 4: those opportunities.
- 8:19Speaker 3: Okay. You asked what's the barrier. Did he want to
- 8:23Speaker 3: say quarterback's got to throw him the ball? Is that
- 8:26Speaker 3: what he wanted to say, but he just couldn't say it?
- 8:29Speaker 2: I don't think so because this is– I'm not talking
- 8:32Speaker 2: out of school here. This is something I've asked Sean
- 8:35Speaker 2: to face-to-face. I find it fascinating when he says– you know,
- 8:42Speaker 2: got to, got to try to get this guy more
- 8:45Speaker 2: touches or that, like there's some mystical beating who makes
- 8:50Speaker 2: the decision. And it's really him, you know, and it's,
- 8:55Speaker 2: I'm fascinated when he, when there's this continued, this is
- 8:59Speaker 2: a three year struggle now to somehow get Marvin Mims
- 9:03Speaker 2: the ball more. And I am really, and That's why
- 9:08Speaker 2: I sort of asked him what's the barrier because the
- 9:10Speaker 2: implication is you call all the plays. You design the
- 9:15Speaker 2: game plans. You are in charge. So I'm just not
- 9:21Speaker 2: sure who he has to ask. to get Marvin the
- 9:24Speaker 2: ball more. So I guess that's where I was going
- 9:25Speaker 2: with that.
- 9:27Speaker 5: I know what it is. It's basically this look. When
- 9:30Speaker 5: everybody's healthy, we like these other guys better for what
- 9:32Speaker 5: we do.
- 9:33Speaker 3: Period.
- 9:33Speaker 5: End of story. And if we need to go to
- 9:35Speaker 5: him because Pat Bryant's been out, now Waddle's going to
- 9:38Speaker 5: be out, then yeah, maybe he'll get the ball a
- 9:39Speaker 5: little bit more. But there's no denying that when he
- 9:42Speaker 5: gets the ball in his hands, things happen.
- 9:45Speaker 2: No, in terms of impactful... things that happen when a
- 9:50Speaker 2: guy has the ball. He's got to be among the
- 9:52Speaker 2: team leaders. You know, I will say, I think sometimes,
- 9:57Speaker 2: you know, Sean has a very, he came up in
- 10:00Speaker 2: personnel with a lot of people around him that, you know,
- 10:05Speaker 2: I've dealt with over the years. And that group of people,
- 10:09Speaker 2: Parcells and a lot of those folks, have very definitive
- 10:14Speaker 2: profile numbers for what they think each position should look
- 10:19Speaker 2: like And that profile for those guys are receivers who
- 10:25Speaker 2: are a lot bigger than Marvin Mims. And that's the
- 10:27Speaker 2: bottom line. So Sean is sort of fighting his training there.
- 10:33Speaker 2: And I think a lot of times when they start
- 10:36Speaker 2: to up the, the ante about getting him the ball,
- 10:41Speaker 2: he'll sometimes he gets dinged injury wise, you know, he
- 10:45Speaker 2: has an ankle or something happens and, And then they
- 10:49Speaker 2: dial it all the way back, and then it's kind
- 10:51Speaker 2: of like this process to get him the ball again.
- 10:53Speaker 2: And I think that's where they're at right now is
- 10:56Speaker 2: he's coming back from having some injury early in the year,
- 11:01Speaker 2: and now they're trying to ramp it up again, and
- 11:05Speaker 2: we'll see how successful they are.
- 11:07Speaker 6: Jeff Legwald, ESPN.com with us. Jeff, when the Broncos were
- 11:11Speaker 6: absent Pat Sertan and Riley Moss for a second, but
- 11:15Speaker 6: Pat Sertan, Jaday Barron steps in, and he plays well. Now,
- 11:19Speaker 6: if it looks like Pat Sertan is healthy again, does
- 11:23Speaker 6: Johnny Barron just not see snaps? Do you think they
- 11:25Speaker 6: try and mix him in?
- 11:26Speaker 3: What do they do?
- 11:27Speaker 2: They probably do a little more of a mix and match.
- 11:31Speaker 2: You know, they look like, you know, Riley Moss is standing,
- 11:34Speaker 2: hasn't dropped anywhere, you know, around this team. And, you know,
- 11:38Speaker 2: he had the rib injury and they started to mix
- 11:41Speaker 2: and match a little more. I think they might stick
- 11:44Speaker 2: to that pattern a little more than they did early
- 11:48Speaker 2: in the year when everybody was healthy. But, you know,
- 11:51Speaker 2: Sertan's going to play Sertan snaps and they'll figure out
- 11:55Speaker 2: the rest. But I don't think it should be underestimated
- 11:59Speaker 2: of in this day and age, in the current NFL,
- 12:03Speaker 2: corner is one of the most important positions. And they're
- 12:08Speaker 2: the deepest team in the NFL at corner. And I
- 12:12Speaker 2: think it's helped them. You have to say that's a
- 12:15Speaker 2: good plan Because a lot of teams are scrambling when
- 12:19Speaker 2: the Broncos don't have to. I mean, they're 7-0 now
- 12:22Speaker 2: since 24 in games Sertan doesn't play.
- 12:26Speaker 5: That's just crazy.
- 12:27Speaker 4: That's crazy.
- 12:28Speaker 2: I don't think any other team could survive that kind
- 12:33Speaker 2: of removal of talent from their secondary. You know, what
- 12:36Speaker 2: do the Patriots look like when Gonzalez is out? What
- 12:39Speaker 2: do the Rams look like when McDuffie's, you know, if
- 12:43Speaker 2: McDuffie was out at this is why you want to
- 12:46Speaker 2: be deep at corner in, in the current modern NFL.
- 12:51Speaker 5: What's the story with the, do you know anything about
- 12:53Speaker 5: Kansas city's injuries and what they've been dealing with, uh,
- 12:55Speaker 5: you know, Snead or the, uh, the tackle more or
- 12:58Speaker 5: anybody of that nature? Yeah.
- 13:00Speaker 2: They seem to be thinking most everybody's working toward being
- 13:05Speaker 2: available among that group, uh, for the game. But, uh, yeah,
- 13:12Speaker 2: I don't think, uh, I think they think Rasheed Rice
- 13:15Speaker 2: will be back for the game and have that other
- 13:19Speaker 2: group available too.
- 13:21Speaker 3: How much does it hurt your heart as a lifelong
- 13:25Speaker 3: Cubs fan to know that a team that half the
- 13:27Speaker 3: payroll in the division just won the World Series?
- 13:31Speaker 2: Well, it's this crazy notion that you draft well and
- 13:37Speaker 2: develop players. I don't know where they get off having
- 13:43Speaker 2: the the deepest minor league team in the league right
- 13:46Speaker 2: now they might have the best player in minor league
- 13:48Speaker 2: baseball waiting for a team that won the world series
- 13:53Speaker 2: and you know go out sign a lot of pitchers
- 13:55Speaker 2: who throw high velocity we you know the cubs seem
- 13:58Speaker 2: to have decided they they don't want to work that
- 14:01Speaker 2: trend so yeah i think it's uh i think the
- 14:05Speaker 2: plan's working out fine but you know the But Wrigleyville
- 14:09Speaker 2: sure has a lot of nice office buildings now. So
- 14:12Speaker 2: I'm glad they're building something. It just isn't a baseball team.
- 14:16Speaker 6: And that is Jeff Legwald. ESPN.com joins us every week.
- 14:19Speaker 2: Thank you, Leggy. Thanks, fellas. We'll see you.
