- 0:01When we begin to reflect on the role of thought in the creation
- 0:05of forms in the world. It becomes clear that it is an
- 0:09important part of the process of converting pure conscious
- 0:13awareness into the world of vital action and physical
- 0:17substance. Thought is a tool of
- 0:20consciousness. When properly utilized, it has
- 0:24the power to shape matter and life.
- 0:27We see this in the way we manipulate material substance in
- 0:31the world. We are now able to edit genetic
- 0:35sequences as well as liberate energy from matter.
- 0:40The basic building blocks of material forms and living beings
- 0:44are being harnessed and redirected.
- 0:47The power of thought, however, is not necessarily always
- 0:51beneficent. It can be applied for negative
- 0:55or positive aims based on the intention and the care taken in
- 1:00applying this tool. As we become aware of the power
- 1:04of thought to shape the direction we take in life, it
- 1:08becomes ever more evident and important to us to choose our
- 1:13thoughts wisely, to focus them on creation and support of
- 1:17harmony, compassion, goodwill, light and clarity of purpose,
- 1:24rather than directing them into negativity, hostility, hatred,
- 1:29division and the pursuit of mindless distraction.
- 1:35Sri Orobindo notes in his Thoughts and Glimpses quote,
- 1:40thought is not essential to existence nor its cause, but it
- 1:45is an instrument for becoming. I become what I see in myself.
- 1:50All the thought suggests to me I can do.
- 1:54All the thought reveals in me I can become.
- 1:58This should be man's unshakable faith in himself, because God
- 2:03dwells in him. End Quote.
- 2:07The Mother elaborates. Quote.
- 2:10Sri Aurobindo declares that thought is not essential to
- 2:14existence. It is not the cause of
- 2:16existence, but is just the process, the instrument of
- 2:20becoming. For thought is a principle of
- 2:23precise formulation which has the power of creating forms.
- 2:28And as an illustration, Sri Aurobindo says that all that one
- 2:33thinks one is 1 can, by the very fact of that thinking, become.
- 2:39This knowledge of the fact that all that one thinks 1 can be is
- 2:44a very important key for the development of the being, and
- 2:48not only from the point of view of the possibilities of the
- 2:52being, but also from that of the control and choice of what one
- 2:56will be, of what one wants to be.
- 3:00This makes us understand the necessity of not admitting into
- 3:04ourselves any thought which destroys aspiration or the
- 3:08creation of the truth of our being.
- 3:11It reveals the considerable importance of not allowing what
- 3:161 doesn't want to be or doesn't want to do to formulate itself
- 3:21into thought within the being, because to think these things is
- 3:25the beginning of their realization.
- 3:28From every point of view, it is bad to concentrate on what 1
- 3:32doesn't want, on what one has to reject what one refuses to be,
- 3:38for the very fact that the thought is there gives to things
- 3:42one wants to reject, a sort of rite of existence within
- 3:45oneself. This explains the considerable
- 3:49importance of not letting destructive suggestions,
- 3:53thoughts of ill will, hatred, destruction enter, for merely to
- 3:58think of them is all ready to give them a power of
- 4:02realization. Fioro Bindo says that thought is
- 4:06not the cause of existence but an intermediary, the instrument
- 4:11which gives form to life, to creation, and the control of
- 4:15this instrument is of foremost importance if one wants disorder
- 4:21and all that is anti divine to disappear from creation.
- 4:26One must not admit bad thoughts into oneself under the pretext
- 4:31that they are merely thoughts. They are tools of execution and
- 4:36one should not allow them to exist in oneself if one doesn't
- 4:40want them to do their work of destruction.
