- 0:00Speaker 1: What's up, everybody, It's Jeff here. I wanted to let
- 0:02Speaker 1: you know.
- 0:02Speaker 2: We recorded this podcast episode on Tuesday, November fifth, twenty
- 0:06Speaker 2: twenty four. By the time you hear this, some things
- 0:08Speaker 2: may have changed here or there, but we hope you
- 0:10Speaker 2: enjoy the show. Welcome to Table Talk here at the
- 0:33Speaker 2: Philadelphia Sports Table podcast show, the longest running weekly Philly
- 0:37Speaker 2: sports podcast show.
- 0:38Speaker 3: In the world.
- 0:38Speaker 2: That's right over eleven and a half year strong. We
- 0:41Speaker 2: got a great discussion coming your way about this Philadelphia
- 0:44Speaker 2: Flyers team. It has been an interesting early part of
- 0:47Speaker 2: this season. A lot of different moving parts with regard
- 0:50Speaker 2: to the offense, with regard to the defense, the goalie
- 0:52Speaker 2: situation as well. We are going to be getting into
- 0:55Speaker 2: it here on Table Talk. We got a great guest,
- 0:58Speaker 2: absolutely love having her on.
- 0:59Speaker 1: Let's get to it.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Is great to have with us this week, joining us
- 1:03Speaker 2: from broad Street Hockey dot Com and she is doing
- 1:05Speaker 2: some Phantoms coverage over at pH L Y. Love PHL Y.
- 1:10Speaker 2: We love Broadstreet Hockey dot Com as well. Madeline Campbell, Madeline,
- 1:15Speaker 2: how you doing.
- 1:16Speaker 3: I'm hanging in there. It's been a busy start of
- 1:19Speaker 3: the year, but.
- 1:19Speaker 2: It has it has look you know, when we're talking
- 1:22Speaker 2: about this Flyers team, and look, we know we're in
- 1:24Speaker 2: the midst of a rebuild. But I got to say,
- 1:27Speaker 2: four seven and one regular season record already and only
- 1:31Speaker 2: nine points on the.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Season, it's been a little rough, been a little rough
- 1:34Speaker 1: watching this team. I mean, you would agree, correct, Yeah.
- 1:38Speaker 3: I mean it's been fun at times, so I'm glad
- 1:40Speaker 3: we have that at least, but it's it's been a
- 1:43Speaker 3: little bit of a trial.
- 1:45Speaker 2: It's been spotty fun, you know what I mean, Like
- 1:47Speaker 2: you said, a trial for sure. But you know, I
- 1:50Speaker 2: wanted to dive into what we're seeing with this team
- 1:52Speaker 2: right off the bat, kind of a two part question
- 1:55Speaker 2: for you to get us started off here with the Flyers.
- 1:58Speaker 2: Want to talk about the best part of the team,
- 1:59Speaker 2: and then and what's been the most frustrating part of
- 2:01Speaker 2: the team. So first, let's focus on what's been the
- 2:04Speaker 2: best part of the team for you to watch and
- 2:06Speaker 2: observe thus far during this twenty twenty four twenty twenty
- 2:10Speaker 2: five season.
- 2:11Speaker 3: Yeah, I think Mishkov has been fun. Obviously, that's the
- 2:15Speaker 3: big thing. But beyond that, I've really liked seeing just
- 2:23Speaker 3: how Sam Yerson has continued to settle in. Yeah, Obviously
- 2:27Speaker 3: we've got the injury hiccup here, but yeah, I mean
- 2:31Speaker 3: I think heading into the season he was still a
- 2:33Speaker 3: bit of a question mark and he's really knocked it
- 2:37Speaker 3: out of the park. I mean, I have no worries
- 2:38Speaker 3: about him really at this point, So I think he's
- 2:42Speaker 3: done some really excellent work to just calm a lot
- 2:45Speaker 3: of worries about what the starting goaltending position is going
- 2:48Speaker 3: to look like for them, And I could not have
- 2:50Speaker 3: asked for anything more from him.
- 2:51Speaker 2: Is Sam Yarrison. It seems like he is continuing to
- 2:54Speaker 2: grow within his role. And I know it's only been like,
- 2:57Speaker 2: I don't want to say, like a few games this season.
- 2:58Speaker 2: We're a decent way into this season, but it does
- 3:01Speaker 2: seem like he has been able to grow. And I
- 3:04Speaker 2: know that we were gonna kind of get into it,
- 3:07Speaker 2: you know, a little bit later, but maybe we'll just
- 3:11Speaker 2: talk about it right now. With regard to this goalie situation,
- 3:14Speaker 2: which it does seem to be resolved at this point
- 3:17Speaker 2: with Aerson playing well, and a lot of that is
- 3:19Speaker 2: because I think the defense too has been a bit
- 3:22Speaker 2: more stable over these past few games, and we're gonna
- 3:26Speaker 2: get into the defense in just a little bit But
- 3:28Speaker 2: what have you been seeing with Arson specifically and the
- 3:31Speaker 2: goalie situation, like overall and not just with Sam, but
- 3:35Speaker 2: you know some of the backups as well.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Are you still concerned as some of us were.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Maybe say about a week or so ago, with where
- 3:42Speaker 2: the goalie situation could be, and, like you said, Arison,
- 3:44Speaker 2: with the hiccup situation injury wise, that could be a
- 3:48Speaker 2: problem for this team. So where are you with the
- 3:51Speaker 2: overall goalie situation even in terms of the backups?
- 3:54Speaker 3: Yeah, I think overall, still a little bit worried, not
- 3:58Speaker 3: worried about Erson. I think he's got to be fine
- 4:00Speaker 3: as long as they don't run him into the ground
- 4:02Speaker 3: like they did last year. But I think Tortorella has
- 4:05Speaker 3: said already they're not trying to do that again. They
- 4:07Speaker 3: know how bad that was. Still a little unsure about
- 4:12Speaker 3: the backup situation. I mean, Kolosov's shown some flashes, but
- 4:16Speaker 3: he definitely still needs some developing. So I'm not getting
- 4:19Speaker 3: my hopes up too much about him because I do
- 4:23Speaker 3: expect it to be pretty up and down. But Otov's
- 4:27Speaker 3: gotta put some work in. He's not been great, but
- 4:31Speaker 3: I don't know. I am in sort of a weird
- 4:33Speaker 3: spot as it relates to the goaltending, Like, I think
- 4:36Speaker 3: it's going to be kind of fine either way. It
- 4:38Speaker 3: just depends on how you look at it. Like, either
- 4:40Speaker 3: they both figure it out, they've got a stable backup situation,
- 4:44Speaker 3: and that's great. We love to see that. But if
- 4:48Speaker 3: they're inconsistent, they have, you know, maybe another year like
- 4:52Speaker 3: last year, a little bit of a stealth tank light
- 4:56Speaker 3: year and they do a little better in the draft,
- 4:59Speaker 3: which helps the rebuild in the big picture. So the
- 5:03Speaker 3: latter is definitely not as fun, right and it's gonna
- 5:06Speaker 3: cause us a lot of angst, But I think it's
- 5:10Speaker 3: gonna be okay either way.
- 5:11Speaker 2: You cover the phantoms as well, and you really have
- 5:14Speaker 2: been able to dive into the Flyers minor league team
- 5:18Speaker 2: Lea Valley phantoms. And I'm wondering with regard to the
- 5:21Speaker 2: goalie situation, if we're gonna end up seeing any of
- 5:22Speaker 2: those goalies, I would say probably only if an injury
- 5:25Speaker 2: situation happens. In the long term, we're probably gonna see
- 5:28Speaker 2: one of the phantoms goalies possibly being called up. Is
- 5:30Speaker 2: that what you're thinking as well?
- 5:32Speaker 3: Yeah, they seem like they're pretty out on Peterson at
- 5:37Speaker 3: this point, I find with that macinnieummy has like it's
- 5:42Speaker 3: still so young, it's still so relatively inexperienced. I can't
- 5:46Speaker 3: imagine them bringing him in just to be another NHL option.
- 5:51Speaker 3: I think if they get hit with another injury, certainly
- 5:54Speaker 3: we'll see another one of them. But I wouldn't be
- 5:56Speaker 3: holding my breath on seeing any of them.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Right exactly. Well, let me go back to my first
- 6:03Speaker 2: two part question for you. We talked about best part
- 6:05Speaker 2: of the team thus far, got into that what has
- 6:08Speaker 2: been the most frustrating aspect of this Flyers team thus far?
- 6:12Speaker 2: There have been some frustrating things for sure, but like
- 6:15Speaker 2: from what you have personally seen game in, game out,
- 6:18Speaker 2: what has been that most frustrating part of this Flyer
- 6:21Speaker 2: season so far for you? I know, defense was for me,
- 6:28Speaker 2: like the first few games of the season. My gosh,
- 6:30Speaker 2: and you know we talked about on the show. I know,
- 6:32Speaker 2: I just asked you the question. Now I'm starting to talk.
- 6:33Speaker 2: I apologize for that, but like even like you know,
- 6:36Speaker 2: even even the offense getting getting getting into the zone,
- 6:39Speaker 2: getting into the zone, well however, just not I think
- 6:45Speaker 2: a lot of the guys were just trying to do
- 6:46Speaker 2: too much. Once they got into the zone and it
- 6:48Speaker 2: just wasn't filtering down to anything productive offensively initially. I mean,
- 6:52Speaker 2: we're starting to see some things here and there coming around,
- 6:55Speaker 2: but I mean, for me, the defense early on, and
- 6:58Speaker 2: then part of that just offensive guys just trying to
- 7:02Speaker 2: do too much.
- 7:02Speaker 1: So I don't know. I'm sorry. I asked you the question,
- 7:04Speaker 1: and I'm sitting here pontificating.
- 7:05Speaker 3: Go ahead, it's a conversation. We're having fun. Yes, No,
- 7:10Speaker 3: For me, it's just how lost some of the guys
- 7:13Speaker 3: look in the offensive zone. Yes, Like we know these
- 7:18Speaker 3: players can be creative and can score and can do
- 7:21Speaker 3: the good and fun things. But it's so many guys
- 7:24Speaker 3: right now look like shells of themselves when they have
- 7:27Speaker 3: to figure something out in the zone there. And I
- 7:31Speaker 3: have no idea what's going on.
- 7:32Speaker 2: Is it they're trying to do too much? Seriously, because
- 7:34Speaker 2: sometimes it looks like they were trying to do too much.
- 7:37Speaker 2: I mean, for God's sake, Farrabee, Sometimes I'm like, what
- 7:41Speaker 2: are you doing, buddy, Like it seems like he's really
- 7:44Speaker 2: trying to put way too much on himself.
- 7:46Speaker 3: Yeah, And I think the tough thing about that too,
- 7:49Speaker 3: is it starts to snowball, like when it's already going
- 7:52Speaker 3: kind of badly, you're pressing a little bit, and then
- 7:54Speaker 3: it keeps going badly, you're pressing even more and you're
- 7:57Speaker 3: just digging yourself a deeper and deeper hole. I do
- 8:01Speaker 3: think that the transition game has been a little bit
- 8:03Speaker 3: of a problem with that in terms of like they're
- 8:07Speaker 3: sort of relying on more difficult passes from the defense
- 8:12Speaker 3: to get into the zone, and I keep seeing these
- 8:15Speaker 3: moments where the forwards, by the time the puck gets
- 8:18Speaker 3: to them, are standing still at the blue line and
- 8:20Speaker 3: they've got no support on entries. They're not getting pucks
- 8:23Speaker 3: deep enough. I haven't been seeing much of a low
- 8:27Speaker 3: cycle from them, which is something that they have been
- 8:29Speaker 3: good at in the past, and it's so frustrated.
- 8:35Speaker 2: There are some good hockey players here. I mean, not
- 8:37Speaker 2: necessarily the most elite players in the world by any stretch,
- 8:40Speaker 2: but there are some good hockey players here that have
- 8:42Speaker 2: a lot of skill, and we haven't been seeing that skill.
- 8:45Speaker 3: Yeah, I just so much of that skill has looks
- 8:48Speaker 3: like it's evaporated to start the season, and like, I
- 8:52Speaker 3: don't have any answers. The coaching staff doesn't look like
- 8:54Speaker 3: they have any answers, Yep, it should not be this bad.
- 8:58Speaker 3: It's rough.
- 8:58Speaker 1: I hope we have more than fifteen points by Thanksgiving.
- 9:01Speaker 1: I tell you that.
- 9:04Speaker 2: I know, so frustrating at times, but again, folks, keeping
- 9:07Speaker 2: in mind, this is still a rebuild. This team is
- 9:09Speaker 2: still trying to get a handle on what the future
- 9:12Speaker 2: is going to look like and what is the future
- 9:14Speaker 2: going to look like for the defense. And that's where
- 9:16Speaker 2: I wanted to go next with our conversation here, Madeline,
- 9:18Speaker 2: because I hoping we can dive into some players here
- 9:21Speaker 2: and what you've actually been seeing from them. We're kind
- 9:23Speaker 2: of just going to go down the list here. It's
- 9:25Speaker 2: going to give you like a quick synopsis of what
- 9:26Speaker 2: you've been seeing from these guys. Because coming into this season,
- 9:29Speaker 2: especially this first guy I talked about a number of
- 9:32Speaker 2: times on this podcast platform, I wanted to see more development.
- 9:35Speaker 2: He's had the injury bug over the past couple of years,
- 9:38Speaker 2: and I want to see him take those next steps.
- 9:40Speaker 2: We all do. And it's Jamie Drysdale. What have you
- 9:42Speaker 2: been seeing from Jamie Drysdale.
- 9:44Speaker 1: As of late.
- 9:45Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I think he's been okay. I've liked
- 9:49Speaker 3: him on the power Play but I'm in the same
- 9:51Speaker 3: spot with him where I'm trying to be understanding, like
- 9:54Speaker 3: he's had so much up and down and stopping and
- 9:56Speaker 3: starting in his career from the end Tury situations, so
- 10:03Speaker 3: he's he's definitely in a weird place developmentally, but I'm
- 10:06Speaker 3: still really waiting for him to just blow my socks off.
- 10:10Speaker 1: Yeah, and it.
- 10:11Speaker 2: Just yet again somebody who I feel like is really
- 10:14Speaker 2: trying to do too much at times and like you said,
- 10:17Speaker 2: snowballs and it just doesn't.
- 10:19Speaker 1: Help the team out. Yeah.
- 10:21Speaker 2: Yeah, let's next, guys, Wrista, Lane and Risto. What have
- 10:25Speaker 2: you even been seeing from him? What type of defensive
- 10:28Speaker 2: play have you been seeing? What do you want to
- 10:29Speaker 2: see more from? With regard to Risto, you know what.
- 10:32Speaker 3: He's been perfectly solid for me. I mean, he's still
- 10:37Speaker 3: like he can't get away from the occasional dumb play
- 10:39Speaker 3: miss you with the puck, right, that's just who he is.
- 10:42Speaker 3: But overall I've been still kind of surprisingly pleased with him. Okay,
- 10:50Speaker 3: he's been a perfectly serviceable depth defenseman for them, which
- 10:54Speaker 3: is I know the contract situation is not great, but like,
- 10:59Speaker 3: if he's find out there, I can live with that.
- 11:01Speaker 2: Okay, sounds good next to Travis Sandheim. What are your
- 11:04Speaker 2: thoughts on Travis and where he's at this season in
- 11:07Speaker 2: terms of his defensive play.
- 11:09Speaker 3: Yeah, still a little up and down, but I have
- 11:11Speaker 3: been pleased with how he's stepped up in the absence
- 11:15Speaker 3: of some of you know, the other big pieces on
- 11:18Speaker 3: the back end there in Seal or in York. Yep,
- 11:21Speaker 3: he's another guy who like it's going to be a
- 11:22Speaker 3: little bit up and down with him just given the
- 11:25Speaker 3: nature of the style of play. Yeah, he plays, but yeah,
- 11:30Speaker 3: I not too many big critiques with him. I think
- 11:34Speaker 3: at this point like he is what he is.
- 11:36Speaker 2: Yeah, but I think we'd all like to see a
- 11:39Speaker 2: little bit more consistency at times from him. But like
- 11:42Speaker 2: you said, kind of is where he is the hockey
- 11:45Speaker 2: player that he is at this point, and I don't
- 11:46Speaker 2: think anything's gonna really change from now until you know,
- 11:49Speaker 2: whenever he's you know, whether he leaves Philly or whatever
- 11:54Speaker 2: the situation is with him. Travis Sandheim is who he
- 11:57Speaker 2: is exactly exactly. What about Nick Steeler at this point,
- 12:02Speaker 2: what have you been seeing from him in terms of
- 12:03Speaker 2: defense and where do you think he may need to improve?
- 12:07Speaker 3: He is such a funny one for me because I
- 12:10Speaker 3: know when he was out. Logically it was like, I
- 12:14Speaker 3: know that putting one player back into the mix is
- 12:17Speaker 3: not going to fix absolutely everything, and yet he's back
- 12:21Speaker 3: and it looks so much better. Yeah, it's like him
- 12:24Speaker 3: being in the lineup just lets everything else fall together
- 12:26Speaker 3: so much more nicely, just being the type of player
- 12:30Speaker 3: he is playing, the type of minutes he does. Yeah,
- 12:34Speaker 3: I mean, he's been great. Honestly. The shot blocking still
- 12:38Speaker 3: scares me a little bit, considering he got hurt on
- 12:39Speaker 3: a shot block last time. Yeah, what was it last week?
- 12:43Speaker 3: He took one off his hand and I was just
- 12:45Speaker 3: sweating bullets that.
- 12:47Speaker 2: Yeah, we were like, I hope the wafer hand is okay,
- 12:51Speaker 2: that shouldn't be that mean.
- 12:52Speaker 1: I do love Nick Steeler.
- 12:54Speaker 3: Yeah, but no, I think he's been perfectly solid in
- 12:58Speaker 3: the minutes he's been given. We'll see how things trend
- 13:02Speaker 3: for the rest of the season. But yep, no real
- 13:04Speaker 3: complaints there, Okay.
- 13:05Speaker 2: Cam York, and then we've got one after him, Cam York,
- 13:09Speaker 2: what are your thoughts with regard to how he has
- 13:11Speaker 2: been performing thus far here this season?
- 13:14Speaker 3: You know what, I really liked his start of the
- 13:17Speaker 3: season and it's such a shame that he took the injury.
- 13:20Speaker 3: I know it's not long term at least how it's
- 13:22Speaker 3: looking now, putting a stop to that momentum. But I think, yeah,
- 13:28Speaker 3: he's another guy who I think really stepped up in
- 13:31Speaker 3: the absence of Steeler in the beginning of the season.
- 13:33Speaker 3: I think it's a shame we haven't been seeing him
- 13:36Speaker 3: getting power play time. I would really like to see
- 13:39Speaker 3: him on that second unit. I know they're trying to
- 13:41Speaker 3: manage his minutes so he doesn't completely run out of
- 13:43Speaker 3: gas like last year, but you could give him a
- 13:46Speaker 3: little bit more. I think he would really help that unit.
- 13:49Speaker 3: I mean, Andre has been good there, but I.
- 13:51Speaker 2: Think we're continuing to see him develop too, and I
- 13:53Speaker 2: think that's been nice. It's been very welcoming. In fact,
- 13:58Speaker 2: Zamola will finish up the defense. Been with him here?
- 14:01Speaker 2: What have you been seeing from Zamola here?
- 14:03Speaker 3: It's been rough. Yes, it's been pretty rough, you know.
- 14:07Speaker 3: I think just from covering him as he's come up
- 14:10Speaker 3: through the phantoms and everything. My concern with him has
- 14:14Speaker 3: just been that he's not going to be able to
- 14:18Speaker 3: read the game well enough quick enough to be a
- 14:21Speaker 3: good long term option. At the NHL level, and I
- 14:25Speaker 3: think we're starting to see that hurting him now that
- 14:29Speaker 3: he's got a larger sample of games. Yeah, like, I
- 14:35Speaker 3: don't know what they do with him at this point
- 14:37Speaker 3: because he's become so important as Matt fay Mishkov's best friend, right,
- 14:43Speaker 3: but like they can't play him as a regular. He's
- 14:47Speaker 3: just not been responsible enough with the puck. The reads
- 14:50Speaker 3: have not been where they need them to be. It's
- 14:54Speaker 3: a shame, but yeah, it's it's not been a great
- 14:56Speaker 3: start to the season for.
- 14:57Speaker 2: Him and has not Well, you did mention somebody who
- 15:00Speaker 2: I want to get into next, but before that, folks
- 15:03Speaker 2: real quick again. Talking to Madeline Campbell from Broadstreet Hockey
- 15:06Speaker 2: dot Com. She's doing some phantoms analysis over at pH
- 15:10Speaker 2: L y check out everything she is doing. Where can
- 15:12Speaker 2: folks find you on the Twitter.
- 15:14Speaker 3: Slash x, I'm at Madeline Campbell, No Ian Campbell because
- 15:20Speaker 3: they're they're at situation username situation yep, tyrant. But yeah,
- 15:25Speaker 3: I'm like sort of on there. It's it's not very
- 15:29Speaker 3: fun to be on there anymore.
- 15:30Speaker 1: It really does suck.
- 15:31Speaker 3: Technically, you can find me on there.
- 15:33Speaker 2: I feel like we have to stay on there. I've
- 15:35Speaker 2: said a number of times on this platform. I'm like,
- 15:37Speaker 2: you know what, that's it. We're done. We're not doing anywhere.
- 15:39Speaker 2: I'm still there. I'm still there. By Buddy Eric, who
- 15:42Speaker 2: is the one of my co hosts, He's like, I'm staying.
- 15:45Speaker 1: He's like, it's a dumpster. I'm gonna go down with
- 15:47Speaker 1: the dumpster.
- 15:47Speaker 3: Yeah. I respect that commitment.
- 15:49Speaker 1: Yes, if he's very committed.
- 15:51Speaker 2: As awful as it is, so all right, well let's
- 15:53Speaker 2: get into Matt Ved Mitch Coff.
- 15:55Speaker 1: You know what what a sensation he has been.
- 15:58Speaker 2: Of course, you know, I I wonder if Mitchkoff is
- 16:02Speaker 2: going to have a better NHL rookie season than Connor Bdard.
- 16:06Speaker 2: Quite frankly, sometimes I wonder that. I don't know if
- 16:08Speaker 2: that's gonna happen, but I'm wondering what you've been seeing
- 16:12Speaker 2: from him on the ice, and where, even though he's
- 16:15Speaker 2: been fun to watch, where we may need to improve
- 16:18Speaker 2: because let's face it, he's not perfect. You know, we've
- 16:20Speaker 2: seen some some glitches here and there, some hiccups, but
- 16:23Speaker 2: he's awesome to watch thus far. Like, what are your
- 16:26Speaker 2: thoughts on what we've seen from Mitchkoff and even where
- 16:28Speaker 2: he may need to get a little bit better here
- 16:30Speaker 2: on the ice.
- 16:31Speaker 3: Yeah, he's been so fun, man, and I think that's
- 16:35Speaker 3: been such a long time coming. We've had to watch
- 16:37Speaker 3: such bad hockey for so long we have. It's such
- 16:41Speaker 3: a nice reward. It's so refreshing. Yeah, I mean, I
- 16:45Speaker 3: think he's been a really good asset to sort of
- 16:48Speaker 3: raising the floor offensively. Obviously it's not been great on
- 16:52Speaker 3: the whole, like we said, but he's certainly giving them
- 16:55Speaker 3: a little bit more to work with and that's been
- 16:57Speaker 3: very cool, even if he's still kind of figuring it
- 17:00Speaker 3: out still at this level. Yeah, you know, I don't
- 17:03Speaker 3: have a whole lot that I can nitpick about his game.
- 17:06Speaker 3: I think they're still like things are still really coming
- 17:09Speaker 3: at him pretty fast, and he's still figuring out what
- 17:13Speaker 3: to do with the puck at all times.
- 17:15Speaker 1: Yes, so damn aggressive.
- 17:18Speaker 3: Yeah, but you know, that's all part of the process.
- 17:21Speaker 3: And I think if you look around the league right now,
- 17:23Speaker 3: a lot of the players making their debuts this season
- 17:28Speaker 3: and around the same age as him are struggling a
- 17:32Speaker 3: lot more than he is. So I'm really happy with
- 17:35Speaker 3: what he's been able to do.
- 17:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:37Speaker 2: Yeah, same here, Same here. I think we all are
- 17:39Speaker 2: Flyers Nation. He's the one. He's like the glue that's
- 17:42Speaker 2: kind of like keeping us all really engaged with this
- 17:45Speaker 2: team and just keeping us watching game after game. But
- 17:50Speaker 2: before I let you go, madeland just one more topic
- 17:53Speaker 2: I wanted to dive into with you. Of course, we
- 17:56Speaker 2: know I mentioned I mentioned the points at the beginning
- 17:59Speaker 2: of this this discussion. Scoring definitely needs to come around
- 18:03Speaker 2: a bit more. Last week on the show, we were
- 18:06Speaker 2: talking about how a lot of the offensive playmakers at
- 18:09Speaker 2: times seem to be trying to do too much. Goes
- 18:12Speaker 2: back to the theme that I was talking about, you know,
- 18:14Speaker 2: just a few minutes ago at the beginning of our discussion.
- 18:17Speaker 2: I wonder how we're gonna stop to see this. I know,
- 18:21Speaker 2: I know you said, you know you're seeing this as well,
- 18:24Speaker 2: and just how this team is gonna be able to
- 18:26Speaker 2: start consistently getting more offense in the future. Here, I mean,
- 18:31Speaker 2: what really needs to happen in terms of I guess
- 18:34Speaker 2: this team getting out of their own way? Is it
- 18:36Speaker 2: John Tortorella, is it the team maybe coming together honestly
- 18:40Speaker 2: for a team meeting to say, look, we are trying
- 18:42Speaker 2: to do too much out on the ice. You know,
- 18:45Speaker 2: let's kind of try to bring things back a little bit,
- 18:47Speaker 2: work on fundamentals at times, because there are times when
- 18:49Speaker 2: we're like, my gosh, these guys are hockey players. Seems
- 18:52Speaker 2: like they're a few of these guys, it's like, my god,
- 18:54Speaker 2: they haven't been on the ice ever before. From an
- 18:57Speaker 2: offensive standpoint, what do they really need to do to
- 18:59Speaker 2: start generating some consistent offense?
- 19:02Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I think it's a little bit of
- 19:04Speaker 3: all of that. To be honest, I think they need
- 19:06Speaker 3: to look inward a little bit and just settle themselves
- 19:09Speaker 3: down a little bit so they're just get, like you said,
- 19:12Speaker 3: getting out of their own way. Yeah, but I think
- 19:15Speaker 3: it is going to come from the coaching staff a
- 19:16Speaker 3: little bit as well. I think they need a better
- 19:19Speaker 3: plan of what they're trying to do once they get
- 19:21Speaker 3: into the offensive zone. I know, like it's hard to
- 19:25Speaker 3: draw up set plays for offensive situations like that. It's
- 19:30Speaker 3: like a little bit of a free for all once
- 19:31Speaker 3: you get in there. But yeah, right now it looks
- 19:33Speaker 3: like they have no plan, which is a problem. So
- 19:37Speaker 3: I think the whatever the coaching staff is telling them
- 19:40Speaker 3: to do, they've got to re They're going to recalibrate.
- 19:44Speaker 2: Yeah, they've got to recalibrate in so many different ways.
- 19:47Speaker 2: So great discussion, Madeline. Great discussion again, folks. Madeline Campbell
