- 0:40Well, you know guys, often what happens is that.
- 0:44The. Brewery underground podcast and
- 0:46the foamy heads come together as a collab.
- 0:49Hello everybody. We become the foamy underground
- 0:54podcast and we've done this many times.
- 0:57Steve and Scott, Mitch and Rich, we love you.
- 1:00We're. All very.
- 1:01Comfortable. Yeah, very.
- 1:02Familiar. Very familiar.
- 1:04We've done this a few times and we're at Middle Ground Brewing
- 1:06in Murfreesboro, TN and guys, we are in the presence of crap
- 1:15royalty. This guy next to me, As you can
- 1:18see, this is Ozzy. Ozzy Nelson.
- 1:22Ozzy has been. Around for a long time in terms
- 1:25of. Beer Community.
- 1:28Ozzy. Relatively speaking, yes.
- 1:31Ozzy for. Murfreesboro.
- 1:32Yeah, COSI was known for a number of years owning Mayday
- 1:37Brewery, one of the stalwarts not only in just the national
- 1:41area, but in Middle Tennessee. And we are so glad to have you
- 1:46on this podcast. Thanks for jumping, I appreciate
- 1:50it very much. 1000 for having me, absolutely.
- 1:54We all have our. Really nice, nice peep at the
- 1:59beginning. We are there.
- 2:00You. Go It's probably the beer as
- 2:02well. People get nicer the more they.
- 2:04Drink. Yeah.
- 2:05Yeah, almost. Exactly.
- 2:07We all have our, I mean, we all have our, our moments with, with
- 2:10Mayday and and Ozzy a synonymous with that.
- 2:13And I, I, we all appreciate, I, I can speak for everybody here
- 2:17at this table when I say that we all appreciate that we're
- 2:20getting, we're getting real Aussie today because real Aussie
- 2:25is, is synonymous with Mayday. I mean, every time I've walked
- 2:29into Mayday, Ozzy was always the same person as he is outside of.
- 2:34And on our 100th episode collab show a few months ago.
- 2:39Yes. Episode 100.
- 2:40Doing that, one of the cool things was they were talking
- 2:43about the legacy and the legend of Ozzy and paving the way for
- 2:49them. And so, you know, Ozzy, we have,
- 2:51we had to bring you on, man. We have to be like, we got to
- 2:54find out more about this guy, who he is, what he's done.
- 2:58He's drawing tonight. He's got a lot going on here.
- 3:00Drawing for sure it's This is going to suck.
- 3:05That's that's one of the things is, is present and future Ozzy
- 3:09is some of the topics on discussion tonight as well,
- 3:12because Ozzy is I wanna get into a little bit about that and kind
- 3:16of kind of talk about the first introduced cuz most of the
- 3:19people listening, my microphones moving everywhere.
- 3:22The Yeah, you're listening. Your stand got bent, so we got
- 3:27to loosen it, push it back on so it's secure.
- 3:30They're making me work. Scott's holding up his
- 3:32microphone. Get it?
- 3:33Be careful, Scott. We keep talking rich, but it
- 3:37might poke it. So Ozzy, give us, I guess before
- 3:40we jump into like, you know, present day and future
- 3:43everything, give us a little bit about yourself.
- 3:45Tell us most of the people that listen to the shows already know
- 3:48who you are. But sometimes people outside of
- 3:51Murfreesboro or Nashville, if they're in like northern part of
- 3:53United States or out West may not.
- 3:55So kind of give us a little bit of background about who Ozzy is
- 3:58as an individual. OK, I I was born in Daytona
- 4:03Beach, FL. My mother moved me to Middle
- 4:05Eastern, Middle Tennessee, Cumberland Plateau when I was 12
- 4:07years old. That's kind of a culture shock.
- 4:09Daytona Beach to Livingston Alpine area.
- 4:13Yeah. Graduated from Smyrna High
- 4:16school 1983. I've worked for corporate
- 4:21America most of my life. Started working at HCA in 1986.
- 4:25It's giant hospital company I've.
- 4:27Never heard of them still. There started in 86 and I still
- 4:32worked there through the brewery.
- 4:33I'd never quit my job. I kept my job through the
- 4:35brewery, just worked all the time.
- 4:40I, I like people and I like to. That's why I started the
- 4:46brewery. I started the brewery to to have
- 4:48a legacy, to have something to be remembered by and I wanted to
- 4:53be the coolest guy in town. That was my goal, to be the
- 4:56coolest guy. Accomplished.
- 4:57Yeah. 100% I worked really hard on that and then sometimes I
- 5:03failed for sure. And that's what beer will do to
- 5:07you every now and then. But yeah, we had the brewery for
- 5:1112 years. Both my daughters work for me.
- 5:13Ashley did the books and Kelsey did the brewing at at Mayday for
- 5:18for 10 years. And we closed down in 2024.
- 5:23Our landlord wanted our space more than they wanted our money.
- 5:26So had a had a a lease until 2037.
- 5:30So they gave me money to leave and I sold all my equipment and
- 5:34quit. You locked in a lease until
- 5:362037. It was yes, it was pure.
- 5:39It was, it was my I had three-year options up until
- 5:432037. I had a 10 year lease and then I
- 5:46had three-year options for 15 more years.
- 5:48Wow. And that that if I wanted to
- 5:51keep stay there, there's nothing that they could kick me out.
- 5:54There was no way they could kick me out.
- 5:55They had to give me money to get.
- 5:57Bought you out. Yeah.
- 5:58So you, if you said no, you still could be there if you
- 6:01wanted to be correct, right. OK.
- 6:03All right. Yeah, they wouldn't have made it
- 6:04pleasant, right? I can't imagine.
- 6:09Whoa. Oh, sorry.
- 6:12You can hang on. They I just wanted to position
- 6:15it. There you go.
- 6:17They yeah, they could definitely make it make it difficult for
- 6:20me. So that was not a thing that I
- 6:22wanted to do. If your landlord doesn't want
- 6:24you there, you really don't want to be there.
- 6:25But it cost them some money. I mean, they got lots of money.
- 6:30They there. That's a drop, Sir.
- 6:33Well, real quick, we want to raise our glasses to Ozzy.
- 6:35Yeah, absolutely. What is it?
- 6:42We're all. We're glad you're here in.
- 6:43Middle ground. We've got middle ground.
- 6:45We've got the Liv Laugh logger, Hellas Logger, All right, a
- 6:48middle ground brewing. We were talking about this.
- 6:50We actually had Brandon Bingman on earlier today.
- 6:54And we were. Talking so we were running the
- 6:56gamut for for beers down the chain, and the Liv Laugh Logger
- 7:00was one of them. And we brought up the fact that
- 7:03hell, all those loggers are very unique style of beer in a sense
- 7:07that they're they can be the hey, I drink, you know, big beer
- 7:13companies give me something that tastes like that, but maybe has
- 7:16a little bit more flavor. All those loggers fit that
- 7:19category very well. They're typically, you know, on
- 7:21the 5 to 6% side of things, but they also tailor to craft beer
- 7:26nerds as well because people like everybody sitting at the
- 7:29table make their way all the way up to the high ABV stuff.
- 7:32The, you know, the very hoppy beers, the the high Ibus.
- 7:36And then eventually they get enough of that and then they
- 7:38kind of go right back down to what they would consider to be
- 7:41the sweet spot For me. That's a Hellas Logger.
- 7:44Yeah. So Hellas Logger serves multiple
- 7:46purposes. It it, it serves multiple styles
- 7:50of beer drinkers. And so it's honestly not that
- 7:54surprising to see us all land on that tonight because we've all
- 7:58got very diverse tastes in beer. But if you look at the colors of
- 8:01our beers on this table right now, that's exactly what you're.
- 8:04Talking about, yeah, that's. Exactly what you're talking
- 8:06about. They're all different.
- 8:07Makes good beer for sure. Great beer.
- 8:10Yeah. We had a we had a hellus at the
- 8:12brewery once, a seasonal. We called it Heaven and Hellus.
- 8:16That was good stuff. It's a good name.
- 8:17Ozzy, were you, let me ask, quit and this is this is my ignorant
- 8:20speaking, but were you involved in a lot of the brewing process
- 8:23itself or were you kind of more operational?
- 8:27Great. So I mean, you're a character in
- 8:29and of itself, like you were the face of Mayday.
- 8:31But in terms of brewing, where did where did your
- 8:34responsibility start and end? I didn't brew per SE.
- 8:39I would have. I would have input on the
- 8:42recipes and what we were going to brew, but Kelsey brewed all
- 8:46the beer. The day-to-day was hers.
- 8:48I would do some small batches occasionally because we had a
- 8:51lot of small batches. We had at least one or two small
- 8:55batches, sometimes three small batches every week.
- 8:58So new beers all the time. We were.
- 9:01We had brewed 1000 beers, 1000 different beers by the end of
- 9:05Mayday. You mentioned Kelsey.
- 9:08That's your daughter, right? Kelsey is my daughter.
- 9:09Yeah. And she's now she's now brewing
- 9:12at another Nashville institute. She is she's she's brewing at at
- 9:16Living Waters. They have two locations.
- 9:18Is she at the? Side and one of the West side.
- 9:20OK, Which one is she at? The one she's on the location I
- 9:23just opened up, right. Living Water, that's.
- 9:24Where the that's where the production brewing is done.
- 9:29All of my understanding. OK, well, that other place on
- 9:32the east side, it's really cramped brewery space.
- 9:34They got that other space and wanted to stretch their legs a
- 9:39little bit. Suited them for the time being,
- 9:41but yeah, they've definitely grown a lot more.
- 9:43And and go ahead, Scott, were you?
- 9:45Going to say, where did the idea of starting a brewery come from
- 9:48where you were a home Brewer? I was a home Brewer, but I
- 9:52didn't want to be, you know, at for me, there's a lot of things
- 9:55are about what how you're going to be remembered.
- 9:58I don't know why, but I think about how you're going to be
- 10:00remembered a lot. And I don't want to be
- 10:02remembered for a person that worked in internal audit for
- 10:05corporate America. It's not.
- 10:08I mean, if you want to be remembered for that, that's
- 10:10cool. It's just not for me.
- 10:12Yeah. Yeah.
- 10:13And so I have always wanted to do something more, something
- 10:17different, something, something that, you know, is going to is
- 10:21going to let outlive me maybe. Or at least their memories will
- 10:25outlive me. Glad the place didn't outlive.
- 10:27Me. Oh yeah.
- 10:29Nobody would have liked. That but but the cool thing is
- 10:32in the sense that we get is that you really in in the
- 10:37Murfreesboro started a trend for the brewery scene there crap
- 10:43brewery scene. Yeah, I mean, I I always tried
- 10:46to make it fun. Well, having something, get
- 10:49something fresh, get a party, have something dress up.
- 10:54We had lots of dress up parties. People love dress up parties and
- 10:56the and the last when we were closing, one of our last parties
- 11:00was all holiday parties. So whatever holiday you wanted
- 11:03to dress up as, dress up like that.
- 11:05And. What we're going to do is put
- 11:08all of the the decorations that we have out so it's decorated
- 11:12like everything. And if you like a decoration,
- 11:15take it home with you, please. I don't fucking want it in my.
- 11:19Way to get rid of inventory, right?
- 11:21Yeah. I want all that stuff going,
- 11:23Yeah, yeah. For people were nice enough to
- 11:26take. Heck yeah, you had some hot.
- 11:29Was it hot chicken and George? Hot chicken and George, that's
- 11:31what it. Was.
- 11:32Yeah, talk about that a little bit.
- 11:34And George was August holiday. We would have live music and it
- 11:41was a big, big redneck party. We'd crown king and queen of the
- 11:44trailer park every year and that was a coveted, coveted trophy.
- 11:52We'd have small batches. We had axe throwing.
- 11:54We've had during the that's a good thing.
- 11:57Beer drinking and axe throwing that goes together go.
- 12:00Very well together. And so we had that.
- 12:03We did a lot of different things, but yeah, Chicken and
- 12:06George was my favorite holiday for sure.
- 12:08It was a good time. And it was what day every year,
- 12:11it was it. Was in August like the second or
- 12:12third week in August I. Remember making my?
- 12:16When it's good and hot, you know you got it's got to be you got
- 12:18to be cut them sleeves off, show some mid drift.
- 12:22Yeah, for. Sure, no shortage of that mayday
- 12:26during that festival. You know, it's, it's very
- 12:28interesting. You were talking before we
- 12:30started recording, you know, Scott and I've been doing the
- 12:33podcast now we're almost going out third year.
- 12:36You guys have been doing it. A little over. 5:00 So we
- 12:39started right before the countdowns.
- 12:41What a lot of people don't realize is that in the craft
- 12:44beer industry, there's a lot of people when you own the brewery
- 12:48Ozzy that you don't have the job as you just mentioned.
- 12:51I mean, it's not just you're not just working at a brewery,
- 12:54you're also doing another job. I mean, talk about that because
- 12:57that had to been a lot of hours and.
- 13:01Actually, yeah. Yeah, there's a lot of work for
- 13:05sure, because I wanted everything to be clean all the
- 13:07time. There's certain ways to to that.
- 13:10I want to things to look. So you know it was to get off
- 13:15from your job, go to the brewery holidays.
- 13:17I'm at the brewery. I'm painting or doing something
- 13:19that that if we're closed like Christmas or Thanksgiving, I'm
- 13:23there patching floors or painting walls or whatever that
- 13:26you have to do when people aren't there.
- 13:30I loved the people and having the brewery and the great times.
- 13:33But the the work is very work is very like work.
- 13:37I mean, getting there every Saturday and mopping the floor
- 13:39for yoga is no fun. And clean the bathrooms
- 13:45everyday. No fun.
- 13:46But hey, you know, it's what you signed up for, man.
- 13:49That's what you're going to do and you love the people, so you
- 13:52got to make it clean. You spend money nights there.
- 13:55You don't want pieces of pallet on the back of somebody's yoga
- 13:58mat. Right.
- 14:00And there's pallets freaking every.
- 14:01They don't like the pallets everywhere, so you've got to
- 14:04sweep out a mat floor. Yeah.
- 14:05Gosh. It's it's a little sliver in
- 14:07your butt, you. Don't want that woodchip.
- 14:11Woodchip IPA? No, no.
- 14:13The last thing I wanted was somebody to you see this piece
- 14:16of wood in my in my. Driver.
- 14:20It's in my your name. Pallet driver.
- 14:25I can I so it was, it was a lot of work.
- 14:28And so now I'm, I'm, I'm feeling whenever I think things aren't
- 14:32going well. Hey, did you have to, did you
- 14:36have to mop 3000 square feet of floor today?
- 14:39I don't know if it's 3000, but it was a lot of square feet.
- 14:43That's. No, I did.
- 14:45So hey, I'm winning. Life is good, Life is good.
- 14:50You, you, you save money. You mentioned earlier you were
- 14:52like, hey, I could be if I had the brewery, I'd be probably be
- 14:55there right now doing this other thing right now to you, you're
- 14:58sitting at a brewery talking amongst some friends and you're
- 15:01not doing. That you're on the other side of
- 15:02the brewery. You're.
- 15:03Feeling good about it, yeah. And he's drawing something.
- 15:05In front of. Him, I don't know if I regret
- 15:09sitting in front of him or not because it just it kind of
- 15:12happened. There's going to be a big
- 15:13revealing. We were, we were here earlier.
- 15:16Good. Well, I saw the glasses
- 15:18immediately. I was like.
- 15:19Mitch's. My.
- 15:20Glasses. So maybe it's Mitch, but then he
- 15:22keeps looking up at me. Oh, you're a direct?
- 15:25You're going back to our conversation from earlier where
- 15:27it was like, I'm sitting across from him.
- 15:29So it's like. Heck yeah.
- 15:30When he opened his notebook and he hadn't started right, but he
- 15:32kept he's looking at your face like he was getting oh.
- 15:34Yeah, I'm always. Looking somebody's face.
- 15:36You know, I know it's you, rich, because you got eyebrows.
- 15:42Yeah, you can't see them behind the glasses and it's a lot.
- 15:44Different. My glasses have to be my
- 15:46eyebrows, they are very faint. I've never heard anybody say
- 15:51that before. Eyebrows.
- 15:53Yeah. I see where there's some nights
- 15:55you literally just slept at the birth, especially in the
- 15:58beginning. It got I I came to my senses at
- 16:01some point said dude, man, we might want to chill out if you
- 16:05want to make any money, you idiot.
- 16:07Yeah, I said. As opposed to drinking up all
- 16:09the profits. Yes, drinking.
- 16:12And you make mistakes. You, you screw shit up.
- 16:15You don't do that. Don't do that.
- 16:16Don't do that. Only human.
- 16:18Only human. That's quality control though,
- 16:21right? A lot of it's quality control.
- 16:23It would be for me too. I'd have a problem.
- 16:25I can't. Imagine Ozzy is is is beer like
- 16:28a is it a sin margin game? Like is there a lot of money to
- 16:32be made in running a brewery or did you find yourself God, I
- 16:37don't want to use, I don't want to use the term because it's
- 16:39it's such a bad day. You don't want to use the term
- 16:41cut corners. But like, are there were there
- 16:42ways you were trying to find to make sure that you were
- 16:46profitable? Or does breweries lend
- 16:48themselves to kind of more of a higher profit margin game where
- 16:52it gives you the affordability to make it?
- 16:54Honestly is the first time asking the question because a
- 16:58lot of a lot of times when when we're talking craft beers, like
- 17:02we're drinking the beers in front of them and if we're kind
- 17:05of more interested in the science and stuff.
- 17:06Like that? But like, you know, don't talk
- 17:09to somebody that's got the history.
- 17:11Oh, yeah, I can't. I'm what?
- 17:14The margin when you sell, when you distribute, when you go
- 17:18through a distributor, the margin is very thin.
- 17:21I have asked that question before because you have to give
- 17:23away points. Yeah, you the, the, the
- 17:26distributor has to pay the taxes and the, and the distributor has
- 17:30to make money and so does the retailer.
- 17:32So everybody's, it's like a farmer, you know, the farmers
- 17:36don't make anything for what they grow.
- 17:37They have to grow a lot. And So what, what my strategy
- 17:42was is the tasting room. You, you build the tasting room
- 17:47and that's where your margin is and you get people to come in
- 17:49the tasting room. That's why we had the small
- 17:51batches. That's why we had the events.
- 17:53That's why we did something. It's all about the margins in
- 17:55the tasting room. You bring people in there, you
- 17:57make it clean, you make it a great environment.
- 17:59You make the, the bartenders are, are personable and happy
- 18:02and loving and, and they take care of you.
- 18:05And so my, my thought was, OK, you drink the beer here, you're
- 18:08going to go out and drink it too.
- 18:09And you're going to ask for it because you're going to love
- 18:11this concept. And I think that that, you know,
- 18:15that worked well. But selling beer, if you're if
- 18:18you're just distribution only or you're very Lim limited with
- 18:22your tasting room, there's a lot of money that you're not making
- 18:26because the you got to have the tasting room is the margin right
- 18:29there. That was my opinion.
- 18:31I mean, other others do it different ways.
- 18:33I guess that's my thought, yeah. I guess it makes sense.
- 18:36I mean, some of the, some of the best breweries I've ever been to
- 18:40are those ones where you can only get certain beers at the
- 18:43brewery And, and Living Waters is a great example of that.
- 18:46Like they do some distribution, but you're not going to find,
- 18:51you're not going to find that really high ABV bourbon barrel
- 18:55aged stout, right? Out in the wild somewhere adding
- 18:59adding that personability to your bar too, man yeah, being
- 19:05able to come back to friendly folk it's.
- 19:08Yeah, you want a cool place to be where people know who you
- 19:10are. And that's a big deal for me
- 19:12that the whole time I was at the brewery and what I preached to
- 19:15my people or what the example that I wanted to set was, I
- 19:19know, I know your name, Mitch. Yep.
- 19:22Yeah, I and I want to. And I wanted my people to
- 19:25remember people's names because people care about that.
- 19:28Because people would come in, they come in one time and I'd
- 19:31meet them, I get their name, and then they hey, man, what's my
- 19:34name? I met you 3 weeks ago, man.
- 19:37It's not fair, but it's cool still that you expect me to know
- 19:41it. But yeah, yeah, I'm not that
- 19:43cool. I'm not that cool, but I'm
- 19:45trying. But because I try, I at least
- 19:47show you that that I'm doing something.
- 19:51So that's, that's why we did the tours.
- 19:53That's what that was the whole thing about getting people to
- 19:55the brewery. You get people in, you get them
- 19:57to like the beer and then they then they go out and they drink
- 20:00it in other places. Tours were great at Mayday, by
- 20:04the way, I mean just being able to back I'm going to I'm showing
- 20:08my age here, but 10 bucks got you a beer glass and you know,
- 20:12some pores. And then you got a chance to
- 20:14tour and an experience cuz he Ozzy walks you around and tells
- 20:19you about, you know, this is where this is brewing.
- 20:21The rest recipes were right on the tanks, you know, and it's
- 20:23just like, I'm not trying to hide anything.
- 20:25This is how you brew beer. Go out and brew yourself if you
- 20:27want to. Take the recipe.
- 20:28Yeah, go open your own brewery. See how that works out for you.
- 20:33Back of your head, you're like. You drunk SOB.
- 20:38We should start a brewery. Yeah, we could do this too.
- 20:44You got a big pile of money. That's what I say.
- 20:47That's right. I want to start a brewery.
- 20:48Well, how big is a pile of money?
- 20:49Yeah, because you need one now. Not as big a pile because you
- 20:53could buy all the equipment. Our our equipment went for not
- 20:58much money, right? But the, the the landlord gave
- 21:02me money. It's true.
- 21:03I was like, I thought to myself, OK, what's the worst thing that
- 21:06can happen? I'm a stoic.
- 21:07So I'm thinking, OK, think about what's the worst thing that can
- 21:10happen. The worst thing that can happen
- 21:11is we don't sell any of this shit.
- 21:13We have to scrap it all. Are you going to be, are you
- 21:17going to be OK if that happens? You got to say that in your own
- 21:19mind, right? Right.
- 21:21Yeah, you do. You just got to be OK with it.
- 21:23We only had to scrap a few things.
- 21:25So we got, we got, we did OK. Yeah.
- 21:30It's just, you know, it's not, it's a, it's a, it's a buyer's
- 21:32market for brewing equipment. If you have a a a brew house
- 21:35that needs a boiler, you're not going to sell it.
- 21:39No. Yeah, because everybody's
- 21:42starting smaller now because that's the that's the trend.
- 21:46I mean I just read an article the other day said 54% of
- 21:50Americans thinks alcohol is bad for you or something like that.
- 21:54So it's. Immediately alphabet half of the
- 21:57population you're doesn't refers to going to a brewery.
- 22:00Yeah. So it's it's going up and up.
- 22:02And so alcohol sales are hurting right now for sure.
- 22:06You can look at the I got out at the right time.
- 22:09Yeah. Yeah, it's a weird time for
- 22:11craft. Beer it is, and it'll come back,
- 22:13but it's not going to be next year.
- 22:15It'll be. It'll be.
- 22:16It takes time and it's a cycle. Everything's.
- 22:19Right, always comes full circle. It's.
- 22:21Going. It'll come back, but it's not.
- 22:22Curious because we, we, we know that you're very well known in
- 22:29the beer beer community with other Brewers who really had
- 22:33helped guide you and you got your a lot of advice from in the
- 22:36beginning, whether it was from the Nashville.
- 22:39It's a good question. Whoever, especially when you're
- 22:41the OG in that area. Yeah, Murfreesboro didn't have
- 22:44anything. There were some guys you reached
- 22:47out to that said hey. It's not a rare.
- 22:51There was one I can't remember and we have a different
- 22:54situation in Rutherford County, at least we did it mayday
- 22:57because we had the volume was wastewater.
- 23:01In Nashville, they don't have to think about wastewater.
- 23:02I thought about wastewater every freaking day.
- 23:04Whoa, OK waste. I had a device outside my
- 23:10brewery that was plugged into my electricity that I rented from
- 23:14the wastewater department that took a sample of my wastewater
- 23:17every 15 minutes to and then they would normalize the sample
- 23:23and tell me how much biological oxygen demand I had above the
- 23:28above what I was supposed to. And usually it was suspended
- 23:32solids and biological oxygen demand.
- 23:34So they charge extra for that. And so I would have my phone
- 23:38bill. I mean my phone bill, not my
- 23:40phone bill. My, my, my sewer bill was a lot
- 23:45sometimes because I had to control those bods.
- 23:48I have to, that's, that's organic material going down the
- 23:52drain. So I had, I, we had systems to
- 23:55reduce the amount of bods and I, I have to talk to somebody out
- 23:59of state to, to advise me on that.
- 24:03And I, I did the best we could. I mean, we got better at it.
- 24:08I think that's just one, one more thing that you have to
- 24:10think about when you're, when you're doing something like
- 24:12that. Was that something that once you
- 24:13got started that came to be as in maybe something you were
- 24:17unaware of? No, I, well, I was aware of it
- 24:20when I talked to the city for the first time.
- 24:23And then I had, I had talked to enough people to know that could
- 24:26have been an issue. And we had, we, we did, we
- 24:31mitigated it as best we could over the years.
- 24:35It was a different strategy and we did, we tried lots of
- 24:38different things, but don't want to bore you with with
- 24:40wastewater, but that's something else that you have to think
- 24:43about is wastewater. And there's not and there's not
- 24:46a lot of when, when you're 1 of The Pioneers in the area, like I
- 24:50guess when you said you struggling to come up with
- 24:52somebody that you might have if you did have somebody to lean
- 24:55on, you don't remember their name, there may not have been
- 24:58anybody in. There like you got the money on
- 25:02the line, you fit you what you stay up at night, you study, you
- 25:05figure it out, you try ways to do things, different ways to do
- 25:07things. You talk to a lot of people.
- 25:11You had you, you know, you talk to everybody that comes in and
- 25:15see what's see what they do for a living.
- 25:17And if they can do something that you they do something that
- 25:21you need, then you'd be friends. Yeah, that's a good move, right.
- 25:25And you keep some of these. OK, maybe you can't help me
- 25:27right now, but you might be some.
- 25:28Yeah. You're an electrician.
- 25:29You're you're somebody, a mechanical guy, you whatever
- 25:35back. Of the head for later.
- 25:36For sure, for sure. And then you depend on those
- 25:39people. Interesting.
- 25:41That's what I did. And that's.
- 25:43And that saves you all kinds of money and heartache.
- 25:45Yeah, sure, because you can't know everything.
- 25:48There's no way to know everything.
- 25:49There's so many different things to know.
- 25:51Yeah. Exactly.
- 25:53In those regards, people willing to help you when you kind of
- 25:56reach back out 100% yeah. If you're nice to people and and
- 25:59you're, you know, you give them a beer from time to time,
- 26:02They're they're totally, yeah, they're going to be nice to you
- 26:05back. They want to, they want to give
- 26:07back your expertise. They want to keep you going.
- 26:09They, they realize, dude, you're here all the fucking time, man.
- 26:13Yeah, well, yeah, because it, they're a part of that at this
- 26:15point too, right. If they've helped you, Oh yeah,
- 26:17yeah, for sure. They're on the team 100%.
- 26:20Yeah, yeah. That's, that's what they became.
- 26:23They became part of the team. And kind of talking about, you
- 26:27know, the whole always trying to keep going and keep learning
- 26:30things. We were talking about this with
- 26:32Ozzy before the mics turn on. And I, I wish kind of we had
- 26:35that conversation or at least had the mics turned on, but you
- 26:38know, kind of moving from from mayday Ozzy into like present
- 26:42day Ozzy, right? You know, it's, he's, he's one
- 26:46and he said it himself. He's not one of those guys that
- 26:48likes to just sit still and do nothing.
- 26:51So the mentality kind of follows him from being the person that
- 26:56opened the brewery and having to figure it out and learn it
- 26:58yourself to after the brewery and now no longer sitting still,
- 27:02you're kind of doing the same thing in regards to instead of
- 27:06it being a brewery, you're doing it in your current life right
- 27:09now. So never sitting still, always
- 27:10going out, learning something, and always kind of just staying
- 27:15knowledgeable and not being that person that just sits home and
- 27:18says I've done my stuff, I don't want to learn anymore, I'm just
- 27:21going to sit and relax because that's detrimental to health for
- 27:23one. But it's not interesting either.
- 27:26No, it's not. I don't.
- 27:28Yeah, I now I, I started drawing in in July of 2025 and I, I just
- 27:35thought, you know, what can I do where I can go anywhere and I
- 27:40can do it. And it's not any overhead.
- 27:44And you may be able to make money and you make people happy
- 27:49or you don't. Well, you're still meeting.
- 27:53You're meeting people. Yeah.
- 27:54It's another way to meet. Yeah.
- 27:55It's another way to have a legacy.
- 27:57It's another people know who you are or know it's that guy.
- 28:00And yeah, it's a lot of fun. And you given to people.
- 28:03It's given a part of you to them.
- 28:05And they give you money. If hopefully, yeah.
- 28:09And so, yeah, it's a lot of fun. I'm not getting any good at it
- 28:13yet, but I'm working, I'm working, I work every day.
- 28:17I'm looking at. I know who that is, just it's
- 28:19not even finished it and I know who that is.
- 28:20So I'm. Waiting for the mouth and the
- 28:24facial hair to come out to see where it lies.
- 28:27Little tricky. Beards and mouths, you know,
- 28:29they kind of blend together you got to you got to yeah, bounce
- 28:32too. Obviously, when you put your
- 28:34first post out for Tell Me what on Instagram for your your
- 28:38character thing, it was it was it.
- 28:40Ozzy. It's Ozzy's face Odyssey.
- 28:43That's it. You put your very. 1st post out
- 28:46or when you first came out with it and one of these two guys
- 28:49were like, we got to get Ozzy on that's how this thing started
- 28:52right now. Oh wow, very first post from
- 28:54that and we're like fuck yeah. Well, I was waiting to do my
- 28:57first post until I was worth a damn, but I'm still not worth a
- 28:59damn. So I I got in about four or five
- 29:03months of drawing pretty much every day.
- 29:06But drawing pic, looking at a picture, drawing the picture, or
- 29:10drawing someone live that you know some unsuspecting soul?
- 29:16Sitting right across from me, across the.
- 29:21Are you learning as you learning techniques, other techniques to
- 29:24drawing and things you're picking up or like like the
- 29:26glasses or hats or I I copy other people and what I look at
- 29:31other people's Instagram and and I actually went to a pair
- 29:35caricature conference in in Los Angeles.
- 29:38Caricature conferences. Yeah, there's a caricature
- 29:41conference in LAISCA, the International Society of
- 29:44Caricature Artists. Wow, They have a shout out to
- 29:50those beautiful people. They had a conference in the in
- 29:55in LA at the Marriott by the airport in November and I bought
- 30:01my ticket in in September. I was going and I had no, I had
- 30:06no idea what was going to happen.
- 30:08I looked online. There's like three classes.
- 30:11It's not like any any conference I've ever been to especially
- 30:14starts on Sunday and ends on Friday night.
- 30:20But there's a lot of drawing going on, that's for sure.
- 30:25There's 170 people were there, a little over 170 from 14
- 30:28different countries. And these people are beautiful,
- 30:30awesome people and they helped me so much.
- 30:34As far as you know, you can go to a conference and you're not
- 30:36going to come out of that one skill level.
- 30:38You're going to come out at about the same skill level.
- 30:41However, you have a lot of tools and things you can work on to
- 30:44get a lot better if you'll apply those.
- 30:47And I met all these people and I go to all these people's
- 30:50Instagram and I'm, and I screenshot, Oh, I got a
- 30:53screenshot that's so good. And so I copy what they're
- 30:57doing, copy their the whole picture and say, OK, I love the
- 31:00way she did those eyes or that chin or, you know, the way they
- 31:04use color and just try to get better by copying people and
- 31:08then doing your own thing. Copy people doing your own
- 31:11thing, copy all kinds of different people.
- 31:13And that's how to be better. Keep practicing, keep working
- 31:17and keep copying other people and say, dude, this is what I
- 31:22got. Tell me it sucks, you know?
- 31:26Or where I can improve, right? And where I can improve?
- 31:29How can I be better? Tomorrow morning?
- 31:30I'm actually meeting a guy at Henry Horton.
- 31:35He did caricatures at the brewery.
- 31:38He's about my age. He's been caricature drawing
- 31:40since Opryland. Wow.
- 31:42Yeah, he was drawing caricatures at Opryland when he graduated
- 31:46from high school. So this guy is no joke.
- 31:48He's good. And I'm going to go see him and
- 31:52we're going to talk caricatures and how I can get better and.
- 31:55And yeah, things like that. So, you know, developing a style
- 31:59what you know, tell me the steps and so I can try and get there
- 32:03quicker because I want people to like me.
- 32:06Man. You're OK right now, You're OK.
- 32:10When a guy like that is doing it and then you're learning from
- 32:13him what's what's the eventual end goal as far as who you want
- 32:19to be reaching out to you, You know, like who does this guy
- 32:22have reaching out to him? We're saying we really want you
- 32:25as a part of our business or you know, our caricatures or
- 32:30whatever. A guy like that that's been
- 32:31doing it for so long, who who become his clients.
- 32:35Oh yeah, he does private parties and he does.
- 32:38You know, I had him at the brewery two or three times.
- 32:40Hot chicken and darts. We get a caricature artist while
- 32:43you got your hot chicken darts outfit on.
- 32:46That's a good caricature. Yeah, Father's Day we did.
- 32:49We had him. So, you know, he does all kinds
- 32:52of Christmas parties, things like that.
- 32:54So lots of. Private.
- 32:55Yeah. No, that's cool.
- 32:56I think if I could just if I if I sat on a small town St. with
- 33:02that with that was drawing. It's so easel out there would
- 33:07would sit down. Yeah.
- 33:09And want their picture drawn. I've done it at a cafe in
- 33:13Galena, IL I'm just sitting it there outside drinking a cup of
- 33:16coffee, practicing. This lady looks over my
- 33:19shoulder. She sees Sean.
- 33:21I'm drawing a face. Can you draw my face?
- 33:26This sucks, but you can have it. Yeah.
- 33:30You walk down the streets of like a New York City or Chicago,
- 33:32right? And they're on every corner and
- 33:34they're doing a great job and they're people are lined up.
- 33:37You're just walking by. Really.
- 33:38Oh, let's get our pic, honey. Let's get our picture done.
- 33:40Since I work right by Centennial Park, I'm going to walk over to
- 33:44Centennial Park in the spring and do some.
- 33:48It's really cool. I'll have to check with the park
- 33:49to get that. Get the permit or whatever you
- 33:52need to do, but I don't want to get arrested.
- 33:55You do it and they sit down for like 10 minutes, right?
- 33:57You're knocking down, but they're on their way and they
- 33:59got another one right behind. Them and I think what's great
- 34:01about that is like eventually becomes word of mouth where you
- 34:04have more clients where you're like, OK, who becomes your
- 34:06client? So it's a friend of a friend,
- 34:09you know, word of mouth that gets out there.
- 34:11Yeah, like weddings. He does lots of different
- 34:14events. And I just talked to a couple
- 34:15that were getting married here at Middle Ground.
- 34:18They're not getting married here, but I talked to him here
- 34:20and they're gonna have a caricature artist at their
- 34:21weddings. Nice reception.
- 34:23So do you draw the groom? Like, really sad.
- 34:27See, that would be fun. She's all happy and the groom's
- 34:30like the groom's like. I haven't done that, but I'll
- 34:32keep it in the back of my mind. If anything, find the right
- 34:35material, right you find the right couple.
- 34:37You're like, OK, this guy's going to get it.
- 34:39It's not the guy, it's the girl that has that's got to get it.
- 34:44I think, you know, I don't have a living will yet, but when I
- 34:47write it up, I'm going to have like a caricature at my field
- 34:49there you. Go.
- 34:52That's a really good idea. As is, I like it, yeah.
- 35:02But I like the. Mitch, is that your, is that how
- 35:04you were feeling at the time? Yeah, that's exactly it.
- 35:06He got it. That looks like him.
- 35:09For those of you that don't know Mitch, this is what he looks
- 35:12like. Is that the mood you're in?
- 35:15Yeah, that's it. You keep that idea, Ozzy.
- 35:19There is something different about caricature artists at
- 35:21funerals, dude. It brings some levy.
- 35:23Yeah, I like it. I like it.
- 35:25Nobody mentioned that at the conference, but next year it's
- 35:29going to be in Florida and I will I'll be there for just.
- 35:32Perfect. Yeah, a lot of potential
- 35:36business. Unlimited, yeah.
- 35:40Well, and then and Ozzy, he brought up something.
- 35:43He brought up something like when he was talking about like
- 35:45just copying people, just copying people.
- 35:47There's a million different ways to draw somebody.
- 35:50So at the end of the day, Ozzy may figure out this is how I
- 35:54like drawing someone's eyes. This is how I like drawing
- 35:57somebody. You kind of make your own.
- 35:59Oh yeah, your own, your day become your own person for.
- 36:02Sure, because it's not copying one specific style of person.
- 36:05You know, caricature drawing for everything you have your own.
- 36:08Well, they had 170 people at the at the at this conference and
- 36:12they had this thing called the lightness competition.
- 36:14So they would show a person that no one in this in the room had
- 36:17seen before a, a full face, three quarter face and then some
- 36:23other face, I don't know. And everyone in the room had 10
- 36:26minutes to draw that face. And then you had 170 drawings of
- 36:32the same face. And it's so cool to look at all
- 36:36the different variations on what the people thought of that one.
- 36:42One that one dude was like 90 years old that they drew and guy
- 36:46drew him as a skull. But I bet.
- 36:50It was an ingenuity there, man. Yeah, that's what's coming at
- 36:53your funeral. Man, bring it, I hope I could
- 36:57see it. Some ways, sometimes you're
- 36:59really good with Ozzy at Mitch's funeral.
- 37:02What's your caricature artist sense of humor?
- 37:06I I really hope Mitch is not the first person to pass.
- 37:10But if? He.
- 37:11Does. We have a gun.
- 37:13You heard it here. Someone's got to be there, Maybe
- 37:15170. We could do the conference right
- 37:19there, bring them all in. Here's your thing, quarter faces
- 37:21just. Go call me in.
- 37:24It's like Friday to Aussie. What are you doing Tuesday?
- 37:26Well, I was pretty short notice. Well, Mitch didn't give us much.
- 37:30Yeah, we want to go crash. So few like trick in
- 37:33Chattanooga. Fortunately, he dropped like an
- 37:35album. It's really cool when you're
- 37:36talking about like, you know, doing weddings and things.
- 37:39If you were, if you were to say OK in five years, where would
- 37:42you want to be with this like doing more weddings or what
- 37:45would you like to? Do, man, when people ask you
- 37:47that, I'm always the person that says where do what you want to
- 37:53be in five years. If I knew where I wanted to be
- 37:55in five years, then I'd probably miss out on something else.
- 37:58Yeah. Yeah.
- 37:59I'm, I, I, I like to take it as it comes.
- 38:02So opportunities come as you as you work on things and you meet
- 38:06new people and things that you never even think about come up.
- 38:09If you have the right attitude and energy and it's coming to
- 38:12you and it's flowing. You bring, you're putting it out
- 38:15there, you're bringing it back. It's like breathing.
- 38:17You know, you're given, you're you're not taking.
- 38:20People are given to you. And so I don't, I, you know, I,
- 38:24I have this thing about this, this small town, sitting in a
- 38:28small town and just meeting the people and go to the Eagles Club
- 38:33or the Elks or whatever and hanging out with the real people
- 38:36there. And I don't know, that's just
- 38:39kind of my thing. I like the I like the small town
- 38:43venues and the people that live in small towns.
- 38:47I. Think getting that human element
- 38:49out of it. Yeah, for sure.
- 38:50Yeah, you get the feedback, you get the yeah, you get blessed.
- 38:54Yeah. Do you make sure you've got your
- 38:56notebook everywhere you go? I try to, no matter what it is.
- 38:59Sometimes I fail. I, I, I want to, because you
- 39:03might want to be Jimi Hendrix with the guitar.
- 39:05You know, I won't be Jimi Hendrix with the drawing, but
- 39:08you know, I want to be like that.
- 39:09But you might be somewhere, right?
- 39:10And not having like, shit, I wish I had.
- 39:11Oh yeah, I've done that many, many times.
- 39:13So I try to take it wherever and if I don't pick it up, I don't
- 39:16pick it up right? Better try to.
- 39:19Have it not need it kind of thing, yeah, for sure kind of
- 39:21thing. Could you do something like
- 39:22that? Like even if you went to, say
- 39:23the grocery store, right, you could bring that thing in
- 39:26necessarily because your hands. Yeah, yeah, I have a smaller
- 39:30version, but man, it's I'm, I'm learning today.
- 39:34I, I drew on a smaller notebook, just messing around, drawing a
- 39:38bunch of faces. And I said I've draw better on
- 39:42the bigger scale. But some of these guys, you
- 39:44know, they, they really can draw a small face really well.
- 39:48So I have, you know, I've got to work into that.
- 39:50You know, it's more things to practice, practice on a smaller,
- 39:54on a smaller, whatever the. Medium.
- 39:58Medium. There you go On a bigger medium.
- 40:01This guy gave me a giant thing to draw and I'm like, dude, I'm
- 40:06not comfortable in that. I need a bigger marker.
- 40:08Are you using a same utensil every time?
- 40:11Was it some kind of marker? Cool.
- 40:12People just have one. The Crayola.
- 40:14The big Crayola if the white one.
- 40:17Yeah. Yeah.
- 40:18Well, some of it has a little bit of a square tip, but I
- 40:21haven't gotten there yet. I practiced with that some and
- 40:24the pen is the just like. I have more pens than than I
- 40:28should. Pens are relatively cheap
- 40:30compared to compared to a tank. I think you know six of these
- 40:35today. What?
- 40:36A filter or all that's cheap. Sure, you can leave them in the
- 40:40car by all the different your. Inventory looks a little
- 40:44different these days. Yeah, I do that with a lot of
- 40:46things, like tweezers, floss sticks.
- 40:49I leave them everywhere, man, just in case I need a floss
- 40:52stick, man, it better fucking be someone.
- 40:54Yeah, I knew it was here. Used to be when I had the beard,
- 40:57man. Had beard Combs all over the
- 41:00place. Yeah, beard Combs, man.
- 41:02If you need a beard comb. I I drew my other car.
- 41:05I would if I'd have drove them the other car.
- 41:07I have one of those. It's a wooden 1.
- 41:10You know it's awesome combing that beard all the time for
- 41:14sure. Want to comb my beard though.
- 41:17Oh yeah, you do do. It and I do.
- 41:19Oh yeah, you do. I mean, look at your.
- 41:22Look, look, look, look at you. Look at you.
- 41:24It needs combing. You mentioned Rich, you
- 41:30mentioned earlier on the mouth. Just go for it.
- 41:33I want to see it. I need, I need to see it.
- 41:36What? What was you about to say,
- 41:37Scott? I was going to say, you
- 41:38mentioned going back to Mayday, walking around and doing the
- 41:42tour. I remember Oz.
- 41:44I don't remember walking so much.
- 41:45I remember Ozzy leading the tour and putting the girl in the
- 41:48chair and running across the freaking or just running across
- 41:54the thing. Could have had so much wide
- 41:55space in there. And I was like, this is awesome,
- 41:58like how you had that energy at the end of the day after your
- 42:01regular work day and then driving back to the brewery and
- 42:03doing stuff and then Saturdays I.
- 42:04Think running with the cell phone in hand.
- 42:06Right. Yeah, he.
- 42:08Gave the cell phone to somebody else.
- 42:10That's. Right there, yeah.
- 42:12He was. Running from station to station.
- 42:16Yeah, well, I got to keep these drunk people's interest, man.
- 42:19I learned that. That's why you learn the names
- 42:23and you and you, you got, if they, if this just like the same
- 42:26fucking brewery tour that you had last week at some other
- 42:29place, then you ain't going to Remember Me at all.
- 42:31And you ain't talking about their tour either.
- 42:33Right now you're talking about mine.
- 42:35Because I fucking got out there and I gave it everything I had
- 42:38with every tour, no matter what. I had tours where I lost my
- 42:42voice and I could not talk and I typed it up and I had one of the
- 42:45people in in the tour to say what I was going to say and I
- 42:50just ran around and did the motions.
- 42:52So just just say these words. Just say it all.
- 42:56Along with. And I will do I think it just
- 42:59treated how good. See, how cool is that for your
- 43:01legacy? Well, there's people out there
- 43:03that, you know, 10 years ago you gave them a tour and they're
- 43:06still talking about it going, man, I remember this.
- 43:09We had the hot hot when. Guy named Ozzy and Mayday
- 43:13Murphy. Well, there's people now that
- 43:15that come up to me, as you know, when I got to the hot liquor
- 43:18tank, I'd, I'd kind of rub on it like this with it in my back and
- 43:23say hot water. And so people come up hot water,
- 43:29yeah. That's a good point.
- 43:32It's we're we're 15 years after the tour that I had.
- 43:36And I'm talking about Mayday's tour with Ozzy.
- 43:39I'm not talking about any other tour I went to.
- 43:42Or, well, you wouldn't be talking about theirs with me
- 43:44here, but you know, at the same time.
- 43:46I I will say I have mentioned your tour on other episodes.
- 43:50I have done it. So that is a false statement
- 43:53actually. Good they stand out.
- 43:54Good for. Me it's, that's the point is
- 43:56it's to to what Ozzy just said. You will remember Ozzy's tour
- 44:02more than you'll remember other tours.
- 44:03We had us here today. That was cool because Brandon
- 44:07took us around in the back and gave us kind of the personal
- 44:09thing. But I don't go to brewery tours
- 44:11anymore because they're kind of the same.
- 44:14Yeah. You know how to make beer right
- 44:16now? The beer, the tour's not about
- 44:18making beer. The tourism is a fucking, it's,
- 44:20it's dinner and a show, man. You get cheese balls and and
- 44:24animal crackers and we're going to have fun.
- 44:28We're not going to. We're not going to talk boring
- 44:30shit, man. And that's what it was.
- 44:33And I've been a bunch of distillery tours and those are
- 44:34different because some of those places of 200 years old, are
- 44:36they Burberries are just kind of, it's kind of the same stuff.
- 44:41So I don't do them anymore to remember Ozzy's tour.
- 44:46Exactly. So and I guess kind of winding
- 44:49things down just because in the name of time, it's yeah, we're
- 44:52going to have two, but. I have to take over the space
- 44:55and start playing some music. One final question for me, Ozzy,
- 44:58is where's the next place you plan on traveling to do
- 45:02something like this? Do.
- 45:04Caricatures. Oh.
- 45:05To do caricatures. I'm well, I'm, I'm going with my
- 45:09brother to Montana. We're going to go to Big Sky and
- 45:12High Week. But I have, but I don't know how
- 45:15much character I'll be drawing. Then for sure.
- 45:17I'll drink my spring, my stuff. But there's different places in
- 45:20Montana. Montana is cool.
- 45:21If you hadn't been to Montana, go to Montana.
- 45:23You never been to Montana? Yeah, I went this year.
- 45:28Yeah, it was a lot of fun. I went, I, I slept on the ground
- 45:31more this year than I've ever slept on the ground.
- 45:33I, I stayed at a glacier for three nights, three nights at
- 45:37Glacier and I'd hike all during the day and had a great time at
- 45:41Glacier and stayed in Bozeman for a couple of days with during
- 45:44the Sweet Pea Festival. That's good.
- 45:46Great music festival there in, in Bozeman.
- 45:49And then over to Missoula. Had to check out the check it
- 45:55out the other side a little bit. Missoula was cool, yes.
- 45:59I had a great time in Montana, so I'm going to go back there.
- 46:02I don't have anything really planned for the first part of
- 46:05the year. I'm kind of seeing where my
- 46:06job's going to be going. A lot of changes going on in the
- 46:09corporate America job, so we'll see what happens.
- 46:12But I think I like this. I don't want to do anything
- 46:15more. Sometimes don't want to do the
- 46:16beard. When you do, oh, there's a
- 46:18beard. You don't see the beard there.
- 46:20Do I need to do? I need to do.
- 46:22I need to spell it out a little bit more for me.
- 46:25There you go. There we go.
- 46:26Yeah, I think that you get to a point where if you draw one more
- 46:31line, it's not as good. And so I'm I try less is more
- 46:39well. Young.
- 46:40He doesn't have the age line. I don't know man, I feel like.
- 46:45Twin twins and a five year old will do it to you.
- 46:48Oh my gosh, man. I've got way more Gray hair
- 46:50these days than. 2. Years ago.
- 46:53Bastard, this bastard. Boom.
- 46:58I am, I am happy he's putting the the hat on.
- 47:00Like you're always going to have the character to put the hat on.
- 47:03Arrogant bastard. If you if you had the hat turn
- 47:06around, you would have to drop the devil thing on the back,
- 47:08which is actually on the front, which is that'd be kind of a
- 47:11cool thing to. I've always just kind of I.
- 47:13Guess yeah, millennial thing, just the Habs.
- 47:15Have always been backwards. Today, yeah.
- 47:17This was fun, guys. Yeah.
- 47:19One more thing, Ozzy. You you do some singo, don't
- 47:21you? Around town?
- 47:22I do music. Bingo.
- 47:23Singo. Yeah.
- 47:24At Cedar Glade every week at six, Tuesday at 6:30.
- 47:27It's a lot of fun if you want to come over to that.
- 47:30Yeah. My mother lives with me.
- 47:31So that's, that's a whole nother story, man.
- 47:33Have you drawn her? I've drawn my mother several
- 47:36times. My mother's not really a, she
- 47:39says. She also says.
- 47:44She also says you're not, you're not going to give that to them,
- 47:48are you? Oh.
- 47:51Yeah, it's not the mom mentality a lot of those are used to.
- 47:54Your mom I thought about. It really well, you should keep
- 47:56going. I started playing guitar when I
- 48:00was 48. So I play guitar and my mom will
- 48:03somehow sometimes come out of her room and she'll say you're
- 48:07not going to play that in front of anybody.
- 48:09Are you really supportive 81 year old mom?
- 48:13You know, you know, it's a real mom right there, you know?
- 48:15It's funny. So my mom, my mom is 91,
- 48:18assisted living there. A few years ago, she said to me,
- 48:21well, you know, you could grow your hair out if you want to.
- 48:24Oh. Yeah.
- 48:27If you want. Thanks.
- 48:28Mom. Maybe not.
- 48:30And you know what I said that and the and the most love
- 48:32because she was great. It was great.
- 48:33It was like, well, you know, mothers always love you.
- 48:36You're like, I don't know if I could.
- 48:37But I can try. Anyway, there's the there's the
- 48:40Mayday touch right there. Angry bastard.
- 48:43Angry I've got how to spell here.
- 48:49Guys. Go with the say this here is to
- 48:52the legacy that brought us so all so many memories it would be
- 48:56Mayday brewery I've. Got a few things we could we're.
- 48:59Going to go get some more. It's a lot of y'all have been a
- 49:02lot of fun man. It's been, it's been appreciate
- 49:04one more thing out anytime there was one more thing and it was an
- 49:07experience I had with you. Do you remember Bluebird in the
- 49:11Burrow? Oh, for sure, yeah.
- 49:12And you may have done it many times.
- 49:13I mean, we did it 3 or 4 times, maybe 5/20/18.
- 49:16I was there and it was Don Schlitz was the guy.
- 49:19I think he was like Kenny Rogers guy or something.
- 49:21He was saying all the Kenny Riders and you were the sole
- 49:23vendor, beer vendor in the thing.
- 49:25Oh, OK, OK, OK. So that wasn't at the brewery.
- 49:28This was, this was at another venue.
- 49:30Another venue. Got it.
- 49:31But you were the vendor for the place.
- 49:32You were the and it was you kind of solo when you had your kiosk
- 49:35set up and stuff. I talked his head off the whole
- 49:38fucking time because I was like, hey, this is OK.
- 49:41Like I know, I know Mayday and I stood next to you the whole
- 49:44time. Enjoyed it.
- 49:46We had a good time. I'm, you know, I left you alone
- 49:48when people were coming up to get beer.
- 49:50But I always remember that because I got to hang out with
- 49:52Ozzy for that's fucking cool, man, in a place and I like the
- 49:55the thing, but I was like, OK, that's there's someone for me.
- 49:58I had already I'd already done it a bunch of times, so I
- 50:01probably appreciated the conversation for sure.
- 50:04It was it was it was a good time.
- 50:05I always remember that and always will.
- 50:07Cheers, guys. Well, Oh awesome.
- 50:09I appreciate y'all. We've got a couple of shares for
- 50:12you if you're in share if you want to stick around, yeah.
- 50:14I'll stick around for a minute, do that, and then please come
- 50:17back on with this time. We could go another hour easily.
- 50:20Lots of lots of topics. There's a band setting up behind
- 50:23us that will probably just overplay us at some point.
- 50:25So yeah, yeah, we should exit soon.
- 50:27We're. Right next to them.
- 50:28So we have to make the hard exit.
- 50:30We usually don't. Comes out.
- 50:33On the underground and. Before we leave Oz and we can
- 50:35get a picture together. Because we always forget that.
- 50:37Absolutely. All right, Cheers, guys.
- 50:38Cheers. Cheers, everybody.
- 50:40Cheers.
