Latest / Early Edition with Ryan Bridge / Rhys Gardner: GFactor Edge co-founder on their VR simulators, Fieldays
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Thousands of visitors are expected in Hamilton today, attracting a
- 0:03Speaker 1: big international crowd. This year, the Germans are coming for
- 0:05Speaker 1: the first time apparently. I'm sure there have been one
- 0:08Speaker 1: or two Germans who have attended before, but there is
- 0:10Speaker 1: some contingent coming. Former sheep farmer Reece Gardner is going
- 0:13Speaker 1: to be at the event with his VR driving simulation
- 0:17Speaker 1: company and he's with us now.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Hey Reese, Yeah, morning, bron How are you good?
- 0:21Speaker 1: Thank you? You excited about today? What do you think
- 0:23Speaker 1: the farmers will have their wallets out?
- 0:27Speaker 2: I don't know. Yeah, I'm not sure. There's a lot
- 0:30Speaker 2: of rain overnight, so maybe everyone's keen to sort of
- 0:35Speaker 2: get cracking this morning and get into it. I'm not sure.
- 0:39Speaker 1: What is the you've obviously there now? Is the weather
- 0:43Speaker 1: being quite bad? How bad overnight? How much rain? We're
- 0:45Speaker 1: talking lots.
- 0:47Speaker 2: I drove down from Walkland last night and kind of
- 0:51Speaker 2: a monsoon it seemed, so I don't know, it's probably
- 0:55Speaker 2: it felt like sort of Gimbridge kind of weather last night.
- 0:57Speaker 2: But yeah, I'm not sure. It seems to happen some years,
- 1:01Speaker 2: doesn't it. It just gets it just gets really wet hair.
- 1:04Speaker 1: Yeah, what are you offering at Field Days this year.
- 1:08Speaker 2: So we're bringing some of the some of the reality
- 1:11Speaker 2: stuff that we've been doing in the States with ATVs.
- 1:17Speaker 1: Okay, and what it to explain what that is.
- 1:20Speaker 2: I guess sort of virtuality is a way that you
- 1:23Speaker 2: can that you make mistakes and not get hurt. I'm
- 1:28Speaker 2: one of those sort of people that struggles to learn
- 1:31Speaker 2: from people telling me what to do. I kind of
- 1:33Speaker 2: need to do it myself. Often I'll be told what
- 1:37Speaker 2: to do and then and then kind of do the
- 1:40Speaker 2: opposite and then realize what I was supposed to do,
- 1:42Speaker 2: what the sort of expert or the experienced person is suggesting.
- 1:46Speaker 1: You learned by doing so you're I think I've seen
- 1:50Speaker 1: you in one of your exhibitions. Your virtual reality headsets
- 1:54Speaker 1: basically allow you to do the driving the truck or
- 1:58Speaker 1: the tractor or whatever it is in a controlled environment
- 2:02Speaker 1: and then hopefully go out and do it better in
- 2:06Speaker 1: the real world.
- 2:08Speaker 2: Yeah. What we're doing now is recreating sort of actual
- 2:11Speaker 2: accidents or near misses and actual locations and putting those
- 2:17Speaker 2: together into scenarios where someone sort of makes a decision
- 2:21Speaker 2: or presents the situation and gives them a chance to
- 2:25Speaker 2: make a decision and then experience the outcomes of that.
- 2:29Speaker 1: How does what does the experiencing the outcomes feel like?
- 2:31Speaker 1: Obviously not like a real accident, but does it simulate that.
- 2:36Speaker 2: What we do is you make the decision from the
- 2:38Speaker 2: in the cab of the vehicle or whatever that vehicle
- 2:41Speaker 2: happens to be, and then sometimes we'll shift you outside
- 2:46Speaker 2: that vehicle so that you can see how that decision
- 2:48Speaker 2: is going to play out.
- 2:50Speaker 1: Interesting stuff, Reese. I appreciate your time this morning. I
- 2:52Speaker 1: have a great date Field Days. It's Reese Garden, a
- 2:54Speaker 1: former sheep farmer co founder of g Factor. Edge for
- 2:58Speaker 1: more from Early Edition with Iron Bridge. Listen live to
- 3:01Speaker 1: news talks. It'd be from five am weekdays, or follow
- 3:04Speaker 1: the podcast on iHeartRadio
