- 0:09Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Over 435 episodes, thanks to you.
- 0:13Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: This is a uh, I guess a special uh edition show.
- 0:20Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Um all of our shows are are special and are meaningful.
- 0:27Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Uh this one is that times the thousand.
- 0:35Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: First, we're we're gonna have a little bit of a chat.
- 0:40Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Um, and then try to do something a little special to pay homage.
- 0:49Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Uh so this uh yeah, this past this past Friday the Olympics kicked off, yeah, opening ceremonies and uh really spectacular in Italy, Milano, Cortina, uh Cortina.
- 1:15Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Sorry about that.
- 1:17Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: And Sunday was the American football super bowl as our and we have the competition halftime shows shows turning point USA uh halftime show really rocked it, brought in a heck of an audience, um, and then kind of sandwiched in between was Saturday and a uh not just a pop culture moment, but a life moment.
- 2:07Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Uh, and that is so I believe it was nine months ago, around there.
- 2:16Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: So I think it was yeah, it was in May or so.
- 2:21Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Um last year in 2025.
- 2:25Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Uh Creed had just finished up kind of like their reunion, like a reunion tour.
- 2:36Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: And uh the other band, other headliner, three doors down, went with them all across all across the country.
- 2:48Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: I was thinking about going to show they were they were coming locally, well, as local as could be.
- 2:59Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Uh I just wasn't able to to do it.
- 3:04Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: The it's not even about the ticket prices, so I'm not gonna get into that.
- 3:11Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Um so this the so the tour ended, and shortly after that, Creed announced kind of you know, like kind of an extension of the reunion tour, and they're gonna they'll be bringing three doors down with them again.
- 3:39Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: And and so it was sometime again, I I think it was in May of 2025, the there was a social media video message from Brad Arnold, the founder, which I guess he he started on drums.
- 4:03Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: I didn't I didn't even know about that.
- 4:05Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Uh, but he founded the the rock band three doors down, and Creed was gonna bring Three Doors Down with him again to hit some more dates.
- 4:22Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Um I remember Three Doors Down.
- 4:28Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Oh man.
- 4:29Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: This was early 2000s.
- 4:34Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: I was at school at Youngstown State University, and there were certain certain bands, they were they're doing kind of like the college circuit, where you're in college, you know, you're doing your thing, and and then different bands would come to the university.
- 5:00Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: And our university, we had one that I know of that I can remember.
- 5:07Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: There, I remind remember so vividly.
- 5:11Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Uh and that is uh three doors down, they came to Youngstown State University and played.
- 5:20Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: It was, I mean, it was great.
- 5:21Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: They were they were in the gymnasium, and it was just so cool that again, just to to watch and listen, and as much uh music has meant to me over the course of my lifetime, in times where I've known I've needed it, and in other times, and then go, oh wow, I didn't I didn't realize this impact that I that this particular band, this particular show had on me.
- 6:06Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: So fast forward, so right, so that's the early 2000s, and um so three doors down just got done touring with Creed.
- 6:22Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: They had announced Creed had announced that they were gonna be doing some more dates uh coming up, and Three Doors Down was gonna come with them again.
- 6:33Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Uh and Creed was another band that I listened to.
- 6:38Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Um I I hadn't had a chance to see them live before.
- 6:48Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Um but anyway, so shortly after that announcement of the new shows came, there was a social media video message from Brad Arnold, the uh the founder Three Doors Down, and uh the front man, so vocals and all that.
- 7:14Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: And it looked like he was just sitting on a maybe a park bench, and he said he had um he had some news to share.
- 7:34Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: It wasn't very good news.
- 7:38Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: A couple weeks before this video that he put together um that he had went to went to the doctor or the ER and through the different tests that they ran uh were able to find that he had stage four kidney cancer, and I don't know if it had spread to his lung if he knew that at that time, or if it was a little later, and that he was gonna he and the rest of the three hours down band, they were gonna have to pull out out of out of that out of those shows, those new shows that were were just announced recently, and that he was gonna undergo treatment, and he wasn't afraid, he's been a big believer, Jesus Christ, and by seeing the outpouring of messages, he wasn't just doing it for show, he was helping people, the kindest one of the kindest people to everybody from you know the members in the band all the way down to you know volunteers, he just was just so grateful for for basically everybody that he came in contact with uh and so on this past Saturday, sandwiched again in between the opening ceremonies of the Olympics and the Super American football super bowl on Sunday, which those are all important things, but when it comes down to it, to the to the purest level of being a human being, right?
- 10:22Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Like we're born, we live, and then we pass away with the hope that we're gonna be on our way to heaven and we're gonna see all the friends and family and others that have passed along the way.
- 10:46Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: And so on Saturday there was the announcement from the band's website the that Brad, the lead singer, three doors down, that he passed away in his sleep due to the the cancer.
- 11:20Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: And so an outpouring started immediately on social media about all the all the people that Brad had helped, and he was you know, kind of the quintessential human that titles didn't matter, you know, every everybody again from a roadie, somebody you know, handed him microphone to get the show started.
- 12:11Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Uh everybody just like anybody can think of that he was just that caring, that kind of a person.
- 12:20Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: And so it's hard, it's hard for I mean, so I no doubt sending an embracement and a hugs and prayers to hit his wife, his family, his dog, his dog.
- 12:46Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Um saw pictures over the last several months with him and his dog.
- 12:55Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: One was at the beach, and and then there's a picture circulating.
- 13:02Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Looks like he was at home and it was him and his wife as his dog.
- 13:08Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: And so when we we think of all the things that go on in life, you know what's what's really important?
- 13:30Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Is it money?
- 13:36Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Is it fame?
- 13:38Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Is it I don't know, cars, yachts, airplanes?
- 13:45Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Just get a whole new perspective on things when somebody you know passes away.
- 13:57Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: I don't have any connection, directly connect direct connection the three doors down, or Brad and his wife and uh other bandmates, and uh I'm just talking as a as a human being who it was just over a year after my dad had passed away after learning he had stage four cancer, and they're able to treat it, but they weren't able to cure it.
- 14:35Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Went through all the visits, all the well checks, all everything.
- 14:41Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Did everything you hear people talk about like, well, did they get did they get physicals, did they get blood work, did they get all of these things?
- 14:51Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Well, my dad did.
- 14:53Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: And then he shows up at the hospital and boom, stage four cancer.
- 15:01Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Sorry.
- 15:02Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: It's already stage four, and even this point last year, you we probably still wouldn't have been able to track it to know that it was there.
- 15:14Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: And so that part makes me so mad, so upset.
- 15:20Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: I don't know what it's linked to.
- 15:26Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: There's a lot of things in this world that I don't understand.
- 15:34Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: I don't know if it was the COVID supposed whatever, the shot.
- 15:46Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: I mean, it didn't stop people from dying.
- 15:51Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: It's not a vaccine.
- 15:56Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Vaccine lowers or darn near takes the chance of getting whatever the vaccine is, too, down down as close to zero as possible.
- 16:15Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: And so I'm upset that my dad didn't have a chance.
- 16:24Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: He didn't have stage one, he didn't find out he had stage one.
- 16:33Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Again, he did all his he did all his well visits, he did everything he was asked to do, you know, that you hear from doctors to, you know, these experts on TV and wherever, you know, they radio talking about, well, you should do this and you need to do that.
- 16:50Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Um, like, okay, so he did.
- 16:54Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: He was he had smoked earlier in his life, but there were so many years since he had that he his lungs were at the same level as a non-smoker.
- 17:12Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: And so I don't I don't know what it was.
- 17:16Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: I don't I don't it just makes me so mad because my dad didn't have a chance, and he we did everything again, humanly possible, and then he shows up not feeling well now stage four, sorry, um basically have a year, maybe a year and a half left to live.
- 17:49Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: And you might ask, well, what's this have to do with you know Brad, Arnold, and Three Doors Down, and that has a lot to do.
- 18:00Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: I don't know Brad.
- 18:02Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Didn't know Brad, didn't know I again, I don't have any direct connection.
- 18:09Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: I'd imagine being a a band member, a touring band member.
- 18:20Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: You know, that he probably had his fair share of wellness visits and that too.
- 18:32Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: And so when he didn't feel well, I don't know what the symptoms were.
- 18:37Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: I don't I don't I don't need to know.
- 18:40Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: But for him to show up at the hospital and then to find out, okay, Brad, you have stage four cancer.
- 18:49Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: And I can I can only imagine the feeling he and his wife had like what do you mean stage four?
- 19:13Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Like, well what about stage one, two, and three?
- 19:19Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Oh, sorry.
- 19:22Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Um, it's stage four, and so this works me up and gets me upset with Brad's situation and what he had to go through, and he did everything and treatment-wise, and again, find out the very first time that you have it's not like oh okay, you have the flu, or you have a cold, so it'll take a couple weeks to run its course.
- 20:07Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Take this Z PAC or whatever, or don't take anything, just rest.
- 20:13Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: I don't know.
- 20:14Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: But my heart just aches because of how similar these situations are for Brad and three doors down and my dad of things are fine or as close to fine as could be.
- 20:40Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: So me and my family, we we got to spend close to thirty more years with my dad than Brad's wife and his loved ones, and and then the other reason why I want to bring this up is he was forty seven.
- 21:17Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Forty-seven freaking years old.
- 21:21Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: I'm forty-four.
- 21:24Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: You know, when we talk on the show about being grateful, you know, for being here, and we truly mean it because too often our fellow humans are being taken from us so soon.
- 21:46Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: And this is why it bothers me is was it the COVID supposed vaccine that they call they call these these these turbo cancers like you know if you have a turbo car it goes you know faster than the non-turbo car it's like if you have cancer you have a turbo cancer that goes so it goes much faster people die from cancer people die from heart attacks people those things don't change but the opportunity to treat cure have more time to live I mean maybe I'm just coming in now that I'm 44 maybe maybe I'm just now starting to you know maybe the last couple years I've just started to come into my own to understand uh understand these things a little bit more and and and really have have these feelings I don't I don't know but it makes me so sad because of my dad it makes me so sad because of Brad didn't have to happen this way should have had an opportunity to live to have treatment and then we have these pharmaceutical companies and I can only imagine if Brad had it some form of chemotherapy or others well guess what that pharmaceutical company that you know they got their money they got their money for the chemo they're still alive Brad's not alive my dad's not alive and with Brad being forty seven years old that's just three years three years older than me so I have a little bit of a feeling like no matter what I do no matter what vitamins no matter what visits I have is it gonna make a difference because the same COVID shot that my dad got that Brad got if he got it I'm not sure if he did but if he got it as high likelihoods one out of two it's I think there are two choices that you could get and that I got because it's like we gotta get it you gotta get it because you can't go eat you can't do anything if you don't get the you don't get you don't get these they're not vaccines they're not vaccines Fauci Fauci you should you should be locked up for the gain of function research that you you had going on again I don't know if all this is connected but what I do know is the Fauci had this gain of function research out of this lab in Wuhan and that's where the first cases that they tried to hide where their burkers were getting sick at that lab in Wuhan and Fauci could have just stood up been a man and and talked about but no this is why we're doing an episode on it because then this did then this affects not only the mental health of the individual like Brad and my dad it affects the mental health of our families and his family and extended because like oh my gosh what if I don't do this what if I do do this will this make will this give me the best opportunity and and so that's probably not probably it is one of the big reasons why I put my head down and we're making stuff happen with voices for voices.
- 27:24Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: I don't know how much longer I have left on earth nobody knows how much longer we have left on earth so I'm not gonna sit around be complacent I'm gonna do as much as I can and I'm gonna share as much as I can I'm gonna talk about as much as I can whether it's again light topics heavy topics but we're gonna talk about it and that's that's what we're gonna do and what we have been doing.
- 27:52Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: And if you don't like it turn a channel I'm not gonna explain myself and to somebody that wants to act so noble and so all I am is a human being sharing my experiences my events and those of guests that come on our show that's that's what that's what we're here for so what I'm gonna attempt to do I don't know how well it's gonna go because I'm not a I'm not a singer I'm not a I mean I like to play guitar like it's one of my hobbies the one song that I when it came out it came out in 2022 It's uh again it's called Away from the Sun so I'm gonna attempt the sing it's it's mostly gonna be me reading the lyrics uh but it's to pay a little bit of a homage to Brad all three doors down uh people everywhere and so goes a little bit like this it's called Away from the Sun credit to three doors down and memory of Brad Arnold and anybody and everybody who has lost somebody dear in their lives it's down to this I've gotta make this life make sense can anyone tell what I've done I miss the life I miss the colors of the world can anyone tell where I am 'cause now again I've found myself so far down away from the sun that shines into the darkest place I'm so far down away from the sun again away from the sun again I'm over this I'm tired of living in the dark can anyone see me down here The feeling's gone there's nothing left to lift me up back into the world I know 'cause now again I've found myself so far down away from the sun that shines into the darkest place I'm so far down away from the sun that shines to light the way for me to find my way back into the arms that care about the ones like me I'm so far down away from the sun again Oh no yeah oh no it's down to this I've gotta make this life make sense and now I can't tell what I've done and now again I found myself so far down away from the sun that shines the light the way for me 'cause now again I found myself so far down away from the sun that shines into the darkest place I'm so far down away from the sun that shines to light the way for me to find my way back into the arms that care about the ones like me I'm so far down away from the sun again Oh no yeah I'm gone rest in peace Brad Arnold Dad and anybody who has lost anybody thank you for joining us on this episode of the Voices for Voices TV show and podcast this is Justin Alan Hayes thank you so much we'll see you on a future episode bye for now.
