- 1:11Doctor Tim. But here now is The Shepherd Matter, Part five from Hollywood.
- 1:19It's time now for Johnny Dollar. This is a hotel operator, mister
- 1:25Dollar, to let any more calls in here. Come on. I was
- 1:30cut off, but I'd rather against some sleep. Now, anybody phones,
- 1:34just take a message. All right, hold of that sit up, put
- 1:45your hands on your knees. Now, just so as you and I understand
- 1:49each other, you make one move, wiggle a finger, I'll empty this
- 1:53gun right in your stomach. You understand me, I understand your Fobes,
- 1:57You're crazy tonight and every weekday night Bob Bailey in the Transcribed Adventures of the
- 2:08Man with the Action Packed Expenser gout America's Fabulous Freelance Insurance Investigators, Truly Johnny
- 2:15Dollar expense account submitted by special investigator Johnny Dollar to Richard Porter for Ady Webster
- 2:36Boulevard, Providence, Rhode Island. The following is an accounting of expenditures during
- 2:39my investigation of the Shepherd matter. I was pretty sick of it and with
- 2:46it. When I had Paul Forbes visit me in my hotel room about seven
- 2:49o'clock in the morning. He used a gun in front of me once before
- 2:52to crack my skull. I decided i'd try to avoid that again, so
- 2:55I sat down and I played good. It didn't seem to please him a
- 3:00bit. You were up to my house about an hour ago, weren't you.
- 3:02Yeah. I went out to talk to your wife. Yeah, I
- 3:04saw you. I was across the street watching. I followed you here fixing
- 3:09up another deal. I don't know what you're talking about. Forbes. I
- 3:13followed you here so we could have a little talk, and we're going to
- 3:15have it. You and I you ought to put that gun away and let
- 3:17them take you. Forbes, where do you live in Hartford, Kennedy?
- 3:21I mean, where do you live in town here? I don't I live
- 3:23in Hartford. Where do you practice practice? What are you trying to get
- 3:25funny with me? I don't practice anything here in Providence. I don't live
- 3:29here. I'm just here for a few days doing what working on an insurance
- 3:34matter? Insurance matter? You're licensed to practice law on Rhode Island. Oh,
- 3:39You've got something all wrong, Forbes. I don't practice law. I'm
- 3:43not a lawyer. I'm an insurance investigator. I tried to tell you that
- 3:46yesterday morning when you cracked me with that gun. I was called in by
- 3:50doctor Shepherd. He said you threatened his life. You're lying to me.
- 3:53Shepherd called me yesterday morning, said lawyer named Dollar was on his way over
- 3:57to talk to me about getting Pauline a divorce. You're a lawyer. I'm
- 3:59what I I am. If you hadn't started swinging that gun butt around,
- 4:02I'd have told you why I was there yesterday. You got a billfold or
- 4:06something my coat pocket inside on the back of that chair there. I think
- 4:12I know why. Shepherd called you and told you I was a lawyer.
- 4:15I think he wanted you to attack me and make me up up. You
- 4:20and Shepherd are trying to pull something to take my wife away from me.
- 4:24I know that much. And now you're trying to pull something to get out
- 4:28of this jam. You're wrong, Forbes. I don't know anything about trying
- 4:30to take your wife away from you. You know I didn't kill Shepherd.
- 4:33How do I know you didn't kill him? You threatened him. Half a
- 4:36dozen people have attested to that. I know you had a reason to kill
- 4:40him. I know every time I've seen you, you had a gun in
- 4:42your hands and you've been swinging it at somebody, particularly me. You know
- 4:46who did it. You're in on it somewhere. You know who killed Shepherd,
- 4:49and you're gonna clear me. You're gonna tell me dollar. I'm gonna
- 4:53whip it out of here. You're going crazy, all right, Get on
- 5:01your feet. He sat in the chair just the way I propped him there.
- 5:14His eyes looked dull and lifeless, as though he were already dead.
- 5:17I couldn't think of anything brilliant to say or do, so I rummies around
- 5:20my suitcase and pulled out a bottle. Then I found a pair of glasses
- 5:25in the bathroom and poured a couple of drinks. When I came on out,
- 5:28he hadn't moved from the chair. He looked crumpled, like a worn
- 5:30out suit of clothes. He made no effort to look at me when I
- 5:33took the glass in his hand. Here, try this, go on,
- 5:39go on, drink it. Why didn't you call the police? Now you
- 5:46say you followed me here to have a talk and find out what's what?
- 5:49Now's the time to talk, pal. This thing isn't the best conversation piece
- 5:54in the world. Leave me alone calling him? You have something going for
- 5:59you here? This gun hasn't been fired. Do you have another one?
- 6:01No? No, dollar, I didn't kill doctor Shepherd. I wanted to
- 6:09more than anything in the world, but I didn't kill. Now, look,
- 6:12I want some facts, So let's start. Well, last night,
- 6:15where were you when Shepherd was shot? How do I know where I was?
- 6:19I don't even know what time he was. Let's start with yesterday morning.
- 6:24You slugged me, ran out of the house, jumped in the car,
- 6:26and what happened? Go on? Take it from there. I drove
- 6:30over doctor Shepherd's office. I was going to have it out with him.
- 6:35He was breaking up my home or go on? Did you see him?
- 6:40No? I parked down the street from his office, and then I saw
- 6:45him jump in his car and I followed him. He came back over here.
- 6:48I knew my wife must have called him to take care of you.
- 6:51What happened? Then I went over to the park and sat and tried to
- 6:58figure things out. You don't know what I've been through this past year,
- 7:02all right, go on, go on. Then I went to a bar.
- 7:06I was hungry. I hadn't eaten all day. I got a couple
- 7:10of sandwiches, and then I had some drinks. I don't know how many.
- 7:14Anyhow, the more I drank, more hopeless everything looked. Did you
- 7:18call Shepherd? Yeah? Yeah, I called him from the bar? Any
- 7:24idea what time it was? Must have been around five or six? What
- 7:30difference does it all make? I'm cooked? And you know, go on,
- 7:32well, you call Shepherd? Then? What did you do? I
- 7:36told him I wanted to talk to him about everything that had happened. I
- 7:42told him where to meet me. You mean you wanted doctor Shepherd to come
- 7:45down and meet you so you could kill him. Maybe I did have that
- 7:48in my mind. I don't know. On the phone, he sounded so
- 7:54calm and said we could talk it out and straighten it out, like gentlemen.
- 7:58Did you talk to him? No? Oh, I didn't see him
- 8:01at all. I waited an hour and he never showed up. I called
- 8:05his office back and the answering service had everyone had gone out for the day,
- 8:07and I didn't know what to do. I got back in my car
- 8:11and turned on the radio, and that's where I heard I was wanted for
- 8:13murder. Tell her I didn't do it. I swear I didn't. I
- 8:16had reason enough, but I didn't. I knew all about the others,
- 8:22but this was serious. Wait a minute, what are these Pauline's always had
- 8:26other friends friends, I guess. I don't guess I love her anymore.
- 8:37I don't know. I don't think she ever loved me. But I needed
- 8:41her. I needed her more than anything this last year or so, and
- 8:46at times I did love her the way it once was. And I found
- 8:50out what was going on between her and Shepherd. She wanted a divorce.
- 8:54I wouldn't give her a divorce if I had let her and Shepherd get away,
- 9:00with It would have been too much to take to ask, Oh,
- 9:03this doesn't make sense. Even though you didn't love her and she didn't love
- 9:07you, you wouldn't stand still for a divorce action. It sounds stupid.
- 9:09I just told you I needed her so much this last year or so so
- 9:16much still doesn't make any sense. Forbes, why didn't you let it go?
- 9:20She knew she didn't have to divorce me. She knew it wouldn't be
- 9:24too long. What Shepherd gave me a year Another doctor in Baltimore eighteen months
- 9:35leukemia. Don't you see she would have been free. They could have waited
- 9:43until I was dead, at least just that until I was dead, couldn't
- 9:48they Well, couldn't they expense account? I am ten two dollars sleeping pills.
- 9:58I fed them to them all with a cup of hot chocolate. He
- 10:01had a pretty worn out. Within fifteen minutes, he was sound asleep in
- 10:03my bed. Idam eleven four dollars sixteen cents. One long distance phone call
- 10:09to a Baltimore clinic, where I spoke with the doctor Franz Mueller. Doctor
- 10:13Muller confirmed what Forbes had said. Forbes was doomed with an incurable ailment.
- 10:18It hadem twelve twenty cents. Another phone call, this one from the hotel
- 10:22lobby to the cor in his office. I learned that Shepherd had been killed
- 10:24by thirty two caliber slugs. Forbes gun A thirty two had not been fired
- 10:28or hastily cleaned. His story was checking out. That left just one small
- 10:33item to be cleared up. Expense acount item thirteen four dollars taxi fare from
- 10:37my hotel back to the Oakdale Home. Special rates for nurses. Oh,
- 10:45I thought you'd be back to see me. Oh, I'm glad it's you,
- 10:52mister Dollar. Go ahead. That's an old story, old and corny.
- 11:01I applied for a job as doctor Shepherd's nurse five years ago, and
- 11:05I fell in love with him that very day. I've loved him every day
- 11:11from that time on. Five years go on. I don't know when it
- 11:18was when you started up with missus Forbes. I knew she was trying to
- 11:22get a divorce. I knew mister Forbes wouldn't stand for it. Then one
- 11:26day last week, I guess it was, I heard doctor talking to her
- 11:31on the phone. He said, there's a way to get rid of him.
- 11:37I knew he was talking about getting rid of mister Forbes. Did they
- 11:39discuss the part about Shepherd getting Forbes to threaten his life in front of witnesses
- 11:43so he could shoot him down when the time came. No, I didn't
- 11:46know that until yesterday morning. It's a long ago. It seems you came
- 11:52to see doctor and then you left. I overheard him on the phone again.
- 11:56He called up mister Forbes and said mister Doller was coming over to talk
- 12:00about the divorce action, and he knew Forbes would be upset enough to attack
- 12:03me. Doctor was very good about anticipating what people would do and given situations,
- 12:09even me. I was in the office when mister Forbes called last night.
- 12:15I saw a doctor put the gun in his coat. I knew he
- 12:18was going down to meet mister Forbes and shoot him, so I followed him.
- 12:24He was working around in the dark looking for mister Forbes with a gun
- 12:26in his hand. I ran up to him and pleaded with him not to
- 12:31be crazy, that missus Forbes wasn't worth it, and he said he was
- 12:35going to kill me too. He struggled, the gun went off. I
- 12:39don't know how many times I can help you came and you didn't mean to
- 12:45kill him. He meant to shoot you. When all these other details come
- 12:48out, the most they can charge you with a second of me justifiable or
- 12:50manslunter. No, you're nice, but I can't get off. Huh,
- 12:58I guess the police haven't found it. I went over and killed missus forbes
- 13:05an hour ago. Expense account, I am fourteen, same as IDEM want
- 13:13transportation back to Hartford. The next time you have a doubtful insurance application,
- 13:18mister porter, settle it yourself or call someone else. Don't call me.
- 13:22As far as I can add up, and I'm not going to recheck the
- 13:24figures expens a count total is four hundred and eighty five dollars. Yours truly,
- 13:30Johnny Dollar. Now here's our star to tell you about next week's intriggering
- 13:46story. Next week, the case of a lonely Heart that found plenty of
- 13:48company in the nearest Morgue. Join us, won't you? Yours truly?
- 13:54Johnny Dollar? Yours truly? Johnny Dollar is starring Bob Bailey, is transcribed
- 14:01in Hollywood. Written by John Dawson, it is produced and directed by Jack
- 14:05Johnstone. Heard in this week's cast were Gene Bates Virginia, Greg Russell,
- 14:11Thorson, Harley Bear, Herbellus, Barney Phillips, and Lawrence Dubkin. Musical
- 14:16supervision by Amrigo Marino. Be sure to join us on Monday Night at same
- 14:20time in Station for another exciting story of Yours Truly. Johnny Dollar, Roy
- 14:24Rowan speaking welcome Back. Well, this was one of those episodes that turned
- 15:58everything we thought on its head. I think throughout the show that really Forbes
- 16:06looked like a bad guy, and then we, you know, we get
- 16:15to the ending, you just feel bad for the guy. You know,
- 16:18just a horrible way that things went. And this episode, by the way,
- 16:22was one of the early John Lunn episodes. This was based on The
- 16:30Shepherd Matter, which was originally broadcast December fifth, nineteen fifty two, which
- 16:34explains in part the extremely downbeat ending. This was one story where you get
- 16:41to the end and it looks like that there'll be, if there'll be a
- 16:49situation where the nurse will be able to walk and start over again. But
- 16:53then it comes out that she just went in an effort to get vengeance killedness
- 17:00is Fords. I don't know why. Johnny blames the insurance agent for this.
- 17:07He's the one who came in and investigate and actually stayed on it after
- 17:12the insurance angle was pretty much over once Doctor Shepherd died back in part three.
- 17:18But that just tends to be, I guess, one of the more
- 17:21emotional aspects of these expense accounts. All right, well, now we move
- 17:25on to listener comments and feedback, and have a comment episode ten seventy one,
- 17:33Rebecca says very interesting, and of episode ten seventy three, pastor Lisa
- 17:38said, enjoyed the podcast. I love Johnny Doller. Well, thanks so
- 17:42much. Now we're going to turn to another program. It's time for Doctor
- 17:48Tim Detective. And we had a couple of lost episodes. I don't know
- 17:53the titles, but the program we played last week was episode six. This
- 17:59week's program this episode nine. So here's the Mystery of the Chest of Dynamite.
- 18:06There's Doctor Tim Detective to bring you, by transcription, the Mystery of
- 18:10the Chest of Dynamite. You couldn't have asked for anything nicer than the way
- 18:26that day started out. Sandy and Jill, very special pals of mine,
- 18:30had insisted that this was the day for the hike four miles over the mountain
- 18:36and back again. I tried to protect my aging bones by protesting, but
- 18:41it was no use. I was outvoted. Gee guysh doctor Tim, we've
- 18:45already explored everything around the cabin. Oh sure, with a vacation in the
- 18:48mountain four if you're just gonna sit around and be ninety. Besides, it
- 18:51isn't healthy. Everybody needs exercise, all right, all right, But as
- 18:56a doctor, I resent having my own advice flung in my teeth. I
- 19:02merely said that a certain amount of mild exercise was good for the constitutions,
- 19:07the house of it amount. You just to talking about dating amount and no
- 19:11more. Oh my aching back tomorrow. Ah, come on, all right
- 19:15on, Jill, you picks up a lunch, and Sandy be sure the
- 19:19car winders are rolled up in case of ring. Okay, you better lock
- 19:22it while you're at it. Never can tell whom I'd come falling around,
- 19:25even this far off the beaten tracks. Yes, and that's how I got
- 19:29myself mixed up in what I like to call the mystery of the chest of
- 19:33Dynamite, Because if we hadn't started off on that height, I'm getting ahead
- 19:37of myself anyway. Among the unusual features of the mystery. Perhaps the chief
- 19:41one was that I got mad, good and mad, more angry in fact,
- 19:45than I had in all the years I've gone through life as a combination
- 19:48of doctor and detective, because the cheap thing that makes me mad is criminal,
- 19:55carelessness and stupidity. Well, anyway, we headed for the mountains.
- 20:12Are we going to stout and rest at all? Exercise, my dear Jill,
- 20:18is excellent for the human constitution, you said, So why should we
- 20:22temper these soft bodies with RESTful ease when vigorous and health giving stimulation lies right
- 20:29upon our path? Or the next time I opened my big mouth. Of
- 20:33course, if I weren't about to give out myself relief, I had walked
- 20:37till you dropped. I'm dropping all way. However, unless my eyes deceive
- 20:41me. That looks like a farmhouse to the left, about a thousand yards
- 20:45away. Oh boy, milk, jallons A yeah, no, no,
- 20:51no, no milk unless it's pasteurized. Kids, We're allow have to stick
- 20:53to can milk until we get back to town. I was thinking of a
- 20:56nice haystack to stretch out on the owner's permission, of course, uh picnic
- 21:02lunch in the past day somebody's waiting at us. Why and that gos to
- 21:07come over? Still the Oh yeah, I don't want it. What's the
- 21:11matter somebody in travel, Well, that's your second wind and follow me.
- 21:15Maybe somebody has been injured her up. In just a few moments we were
- 21:32getting the story from the old man. He must have been near seventy.
- 21:34And so when I see gift, I would hoping it might be some of
- 21:37the neighbors had to go for some health or just mind, don't go look
- 21:41to have it turn out to be some city folks. Hey, there's both.
- 21:45Maybe a night horse right there. Trum me to now just a minute,
- 21:48everybody, this, what's the matter? Matter? Where? Matter?
- 21:51Now? Why I'm up here? All mama self to durn lane to get
- 21:53on horseback. It's your knife hold that darned wife and that fool daughter or
- 21:57two it gets one. I might have taken the only audimo be on the
- 22:00place and going up, traking off there the city for a week. Mind
- 22:04you were didn't even do backward day after tomorrow. He asked me, that's
- 22:08going to be too late, Yes, sy too late. Then they blame
- 22:12me, my look, blame you for what is something wrong? Wrong?
- 22:15Why were things been wrong since my daughter's husband got killed at their war?
- 22:19Or they see no face for a little kid. This thing I said the
- 22:22one thousand times. If somebody hurt, I'm a hurt worthy nothing here to
- 22:27hurt. Nobody just came down to the saw. Oh this person he did
- 22:32Nobody can blame me for that. If it's more heaven going up trake.
- 22:37I don't think he means that I said kid in nor why of course there
- 22:40isn't. I've been telling you what well, good gosh, why did you
- 22:41say was the matter? Why did you realize? I didn't wait to hear
- 22:45more, but left Sandy Angel explaining the old man. As I dashed inside
- 22:48the house and found the bedroom, sick kid was an understatement. I didn't
- 22:52know what was the matter. But as I stooped down over the bed and
- 22:55got a look at the child, about five years old, I'd guess I
- 22:59knew one thing. The fight was now with death. Well, I've been
- 23:15in some type situations, but never one like this. My car, and
- 23:19of course my medical bag was in It was several miles over the mountains.
- 23:23The nearest phone was fourteen miles away. The child was dying and for help
- 23:29I had two kids and a daughter, and half scared of death. Old
- 23:32man Silently I worked over the child, trying to ease the breathing going over
- 23:37in my mind with things that might be wrong, summoning all the knowledge of
- 23:40my lifetime, trying to think what treatment I could give. In a few
- 23:44moments, the old man entered kind of sick, any very sick. First
- 23:48off, seems to be some kind of poisoning. When did he eat last
- 23:53night? Yeah, let me see now for first thing, four or five
- 23:56days drinking he won a nothing's inch mm hmm, what did he eat it?
- 24:03Nothing? I ain't it myself, not been fine. Durned rheumatism seemed
- 24:07to drive every year that durned rumty car, you mean the rumatatm where are
- 24:11you? Child? Sat? Cold fever? Where you did sort of complain
- 24:15about feet and hats and chill me in and said it's how the thought was
- 24:18hurting. I went over a rapid list in my mind. Deysteria one of
- 24:22the signs, scarlet fever. Same, but something toxic, something poison was
- 24:26working in that child's body, and unless I could find out, the end
- 24:32was a matter of hours. The pulse was rapid fready the breathing difficult,
- 24:36and the temperature. Even without a thermometer, I knew it was dangerously high.
- 24:40Suddenly I had a thought. I turned to the old man. You
- 24:42drive a car for me? Nope, never been behind the one whole I
- 24:48can dodges him. I know not old enough to have a license, but
- 24:51my dad's been teaching me. Or that car has to be driven, you
- 24:53won't need a license, Sandy. I've got to have that medical bag,
- 24:57and I've got to have the car here in case I decided there moved the
- 25:00child and get into a hospital. And I can't leave because that as murder.
- 25:07You'd think you could get the car here over that trail we came in
- 25:08on the other day. Wow, I think so I ought to be shot
- 25:12for letting you try, And I'm afraid it means a life here mckeys catch
- 25:19now run run over the mountain as you've never run before. An hour passed,
- 25:36the child was resting more easily, Jill and I returns, wiping his
- 25:38face and trying to make it more comfortable with straining ears. I listened for
- 25:42the car. Would Sandy make it well? It was too soon to tell,
- 25:47yet lost in thought it wasn't until Jill repeated what she was saying to
- 25:52me, that it sank into my consciousness. Dotty can the old man said,
- 25:56he get in my body. But maybe it's candy gets any is made
- 26:00Jimmy strange. I never thought of the child is having a name. And
- 26:06then suddenly, what what does that? You said? His medicine, you
- 26:08old man, thing rambling on about it. King Try came with one bound.
- 26:11I was at the door of the bedroom calling the old man, and
- 26:14a moment he appeared. Yes, you're a fine kind of doctor. And
- 26:17how to give them folks something they can take? Were the poor little kid
- 26:19in there? You've been giving this child medicine? Of course, a half
- 26:22real drum store medicine too. The dock down there seven mile. He fixed
- 26:26it up for me when I had a sore throat last week, the same
- 26:29as, kid, give me here quick, let me have that bottle.
- 26:30Sure, As I turned my head once again to listen to the sound of
- 26:34a motor car, an idea was beginning to shape itself in my mind.
- 26:37If that medicine was what I thought it might be, I snatched the bottle
- 26:42from the old man's hands. He came inside the door. Katy kill.
- 26:45What's the manner sofa. You've been giving this child an adult dose of SOFA
- 26:51for five days. Give it to him just like I says. You're on
- 26:53the bottle for Jacky Kim. I've got to self a judge. But good
- 26:56for stor throut and all kinds of in taking, Yes, like rat poison
- 27:00is good for a rat. You mean, Dunn. It's sit down and
- 27:03listen. Listen carefully before you murder someone else. More people have been killed
- 27:08by taking the wrong drugs than are killing any war said to Dark told me,
- 27:12yes, he told you to take it, not that child. It
- 27:15was your prescription for your illness. You were safe taking it. It wasn't
- 27:18met for Jimmy. Do you know what's happened to that child? He's dying
- 27:23of uremic poisoning. That's SOFA drug too Bigados has formed crystals in his kidneys,
- 27:29has pugged them up until they can't work for Jimmy anymore. All the
- 27:32poisons, the waste matter, and the kidneys had been killing him for days.
- 27:34He will Dark, I didn't mean to do it, of course,
- 27:37you didn't mean to hurt him, But you tied the safety valve down on
- 27:41the boiler. Oh, I'd like to take the contents of half the medicine
- 27:45chests of this country and dig a pit and bury them. Evaporated iodin left
- 27:48for goodness knows how long to burn and scar an innocent victim poisons taken in
- 27:52the belief they are antiseptics, sleeping pills, that kids get hold of them
- 27:56and kill themselves. I'm only lie cleaning fluid right in the meadowson chests.
- 28:00We're forced to drink some night medicine chest there chests of chynamite. That's what
- 28:06you you? Oh, what's the use? I'm sorry. I didn't mean
- 28:14to lose my temper, Okay, Jimmy, well I steal now, you'll
- 28:21be better soon. The next half hour was broken only by the softly spoken
- 28:37conversation between Jill and myself as we spent our thoughts to Sandy in the car.
- 28:42A rough job for a kid with no experience in driving, sky King.
- 28:47Can you do something even your medical bare? Hope? So, Jill,
- 28:52all depends upon what I did the other day when I left my laboratory.
- 28:56Well, I had a supply of SpineLine esthetic, you know, the
- 29:00stuff he used for operations when you don't want to give ether. He inject
- 29:03it into the spine. I I think I put it in my bag.
- 29:07I'm praying that I did help. It will probably save Jimmy's life, you
- 29:15say, Jill. In the last War, a lot of soldiers took an
- 29:18overdose of sulfur. They didn't know they were supposed to drink lots of water,
- 29:22take baking soda with it, And at first the army doctors thought the
- 29:26only way to save their lives was to operate upon the kidneys. You may
- 29:29know the many way for sure. The doctors discovered by accident that when they
- 29:33gave the spinal anesthetic to get the soldier ready for the operation, the anesthetic
- 29:37itself often seemed to start the kidneys to working again without the operation. Really,
- 29:44and if you do have any new bank, yes, even at that
- 29:48it's dangerous business, Jill. To inject that anesthetic is dangerous in itself.
- 29:52It really should be done in the hospital. But driving forty miles over these
- 29:56roads would mean sure death for Jimmy, who love Oh Lord, it has
- 30:03to be run, run, Jill quick Well. Sandy was the hero of
- 30:22the day, all right. Although I wake up nights sometimes in horror at
- 30:26the thought of his wrestling that car over the trail to the ranch. Locks
- 30:30had been with me, that medicine was in my bag. A couple of
- 30:33times we thought we'd lose Jimmy, but he did pull through. But the
- 30:37funny thing was the way my getting sore acted on the old farmer. As
- 30:41soon as Jimmy pulled over the hump, he had a celebration. I was
- 30:45napping peacefully on the couch when okay, Doc, I've done it. I'd
- 30:52torn that medicine yet plumb out. There ain't gonna have no more dynamite around
- 30:56here, No, sue, Well, I chuckle to myself, You're never
- 31:03too old to learn. This is doctor Tim Detective saying, so long until
- 31:11next week, at the same time, when Sandy, Jill and I will
- 31:15bring you the exciting transcribe mystery of the Poisoner at Large. Welcome back.
- 32:13While the show continues to do a good job of public health education, and
- 32:17I think Doctor Tim definitely justifiably upset about the situation and overall, though a
- 32:30pretty solid story making the point about the importance of only using prescription medication that's
- 32:37actually prescribed to you, with just a touch of humor to lighten up at
- 32:42the end, so nicely done. I should mention that Doctor Tim the Doctor
- 32:45will be out next week. We have another lost episode serial of Yours Truly
- 32:52Johnny Dollar, so we'll have a special on Wednesday, and then we will
- 32:58have the final two parts we have of the Lonely Hearts Matter on Friday,
- 33:04So Doctor Tim will return in two weeks. Comment on From now we turn
- 33:09to iTunes comment from Tiger B sixty five, who says, actually, regarding
- 33:15the Yours Truly Johnny Dollar podcast, I only wish I could see the full
- 33:19name of the episode before I play it. Well, thanks so much for
- 33:22the comment, Tiger, and I wish there was a way we could do
- 33:25that, But with the series length mean what it is, and in an
- 33:35addition to that of the title of the series, the title of episode and
- 33:40on the is a part number. I suppose we could always try and a
- 33:44breaviate Yours Truly Johnny Dollar in the title, but that might make it harder
- 33:47for new listeners to find us, so sorry, there's not a really good
- 33:52answer to this question. Now we turn to a question about Jack Webb,
- 34:00who will be coming back here in a few months as Pete Kelly and Pete
- 34:05Kelly's Blues, and then not Pete Kelly's Blues but pat No back for hire,
- 34:09and then in Dragnet listen or emails, I've fallen in love with Jack
- 34:15Web That voice was amazing. I have a question for you, the expert.
- 34:19In every movie and TV show I've seen Jack in from the late nineteen
- 34:23forties on, he's worn a bracelet let on his right wrist. What's the
- 34:28story with the bracelet? It's killing me? Well, Karen in injury to
- 34:31your question, The story of the bracelet is that it's just a simple chain
- 34:37bracelet. It does look in some shots when you see it on television like
- 34:45it might be something else, but looking at it still, it's just a
- 34:51simple gold chain bracelet. Now, as to why he wears it, I
- 34:57don't know. It's just because some and that he liked to wear. And
- 35:01unfortunately I'm not aware of any additional information other than it's just a gold chain
- 35:07bracelet. All right, Well, that will finish us up for today.
- 35:10We'll be back tomorrow with the lineup and join us on Monday if we start
- 35:15a new Johnny Dollar story, and in two weeks join us for Doctor Tim
