Speaker A: He was born on a Saturday in.
• 0:03
Speaker B: 73 he loves park rock music fighting the 13 cabin in the desert Rock now on the beach guitar with a short wind radio back his motherfucking Andy scolding look at motherfucker cuz here he comes Andy scrolling wearing his orange hat.
• 0:27
Speaker A: Welcome to unsigned 518. I am here with no such thing as ghosts. How's it going?
• 0:33
  Speaker C: It's going great.
• 0:34
Speaker A: So what we're gonna do, I think is, you know, cause there's four people in the room with me currently, not counting the voices in my head. But we'll start with Rachel and just introduce yourself and what you do in the band and then we'll just go right around the room here.
• 0:47
Speaker C: All right. I am Rachel. I play bass for the band and I also sing.
• 0:55
Speaker D: My name is Noah. I play guitar in the band and I also sing.
• 1:00
Speaker E: My name is Tony.
• 1:01
Speaker F: I play the drums and I'm Tom. And I sing and play guitar for nose sings ghosts.
• 1:08
Speaker A: And so, you know, I was saying before we got started, you know, this is just like an introduction. We're gonna just talk about how things got rolling. And you were saying how you're a very new band, but that you'd done like other things before. So I guess whoever wants to take the lead, you know, you can either incorporate some of like the past experience, past bands and lead up to now with the band, or you know, just kind of, I guess, tell the story a little bit.
• 1:37
Speaker F: Yeah, so it started a long time ago with dance cancer. Me and Noah started that.
• 1:43
  Speaker A: Oh, fuck.
• 1:43
Speaker F: What year was that?
• 1:44
Speaker A: I know that band. All right, all right. Now we're onto something.
• 1:50
Speaker F: That was forever ago.
• 1:51
  Speaker A: Holy shit.
• 1:52
Speaker F: Yeah, so it was that and then we stopped playing. When. What year was it?
• 1:57
  Speaker D: It's like 2012.
• 1:59
Speaker F: Yes, we stopped. I picked it back up with another drummer. We did it as like a two piece. Me and the drummer, he wasn't able to do music anymore. I moved out to New York State and I started jam with Tony what, five, six years ago? So we've all been jamming a lot and I just. I was writing songs for dance cancer and. Which is now same old rat and the songs weren't. It didn't sound like that. It sounded like its own thing.
• 2:27
Speaker A: So I didn't even realize that fucking dance cancer became like, oh, it's changed so many times. I'm like, it's still like. Cuz I haven't. If it's. I feel like in the fucking Star wars movies where I'm like, I haven't heard that name in a long time.
• 2:40
Speaker F: It's been a long time. It's been a long time, yeah.
• 2:44
Speaker A: Cause I lived in Troy from, like, in the early two thousands, and, like, that's when I started, like, really, like, getting into, like, all the music that wasn't, like, the big, big stuff, you know, I started being like, oh, there's so much cool fucking music, you know, around here. And that's when I came across dance cancer.
• 3:03
  Speaker G: That's fucking line.
• 3:03
Speaker F: It was crazy. Back in the day, we went on a couple tours. We were a bunch of idiots, young and stupid and crashing cars and. Yeah, it was rough. It was fun, though. It was good.
• 3:13
Speaker A: And then. So that stopped in 2012, you say?
• 3:17
Speaker F: Well, it stopped with that version of it. I wanted to keep doing music. So a few years later, I had another drummer, and he was playing. It was a two piece, just really loud. I basically took some of what Dan's cancer was, took a lot of the riffs, and just made new things with it, and it just kept evolving. I started playing with John Otterbeck, Justin Nichols, and that became sandra old rat. So we're doing that now, and. Yeah, so the songs I was writing for same old rat, not all of them worked. And so I started jamming with Tony, and this is what happened.
• 3:51
Speaker A: And I love that because, like I said, you know, I don't do any research. I'm like, holy shit. Like, all these, like, you know, and just last night, like, you were down where you were playing where?
• 4:02
  Speaker F: El Dorado.
• 4:02
Speaker A: El Dorado, yeah. And we were at. Or I was at fucking twisted fiddler and then peach misfits who opened the show there. Like, he's been on the show. He's a friend of mine, like, and all this, and I had no idea that, like, you were gonna be on the show the very next day. Like, it just fucking wild.
• 4:19
Speaker F: They did really good. They opened up, and it was really nice.
• 4:22
Speaker A: Yeah. When I first. When Ian was first on the show, he. He had didn't have a band. Like, it was just. It was just, like, his songs, and he didn't have a band. And, like, now that, like, he's got the band, it's like, they're doing really good. They're fucking killing.
• 4:40
Speaker F: He's good, too. On guitar. He's young.
• 4:41
Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, yeah. He's only, like, fucking 22 or three, maybe.
• 4:45
Speaker C: I think he said he was 24. I talked to him.
• 4:47
Speaker A: All right, maybe. Maybe that's.
• 4:48
Speaker C: I'm gonna play with you guys.
• 4:49
Speaker A: I'm 51, so, like, anybody that's, like, under 28 is a fucking infant. Whatever. Sweet. So, yeah, this is opening up whole new. Whole new things that I didn't know. So where is the band based out of?
• 5:07
Speaker F: Oh, so two of us are in East Greenbush.
• 5:10
  Speaker A: Okay.
• 5:10
Speaker F: And the other two are in Pittsfield, Massachusetts.
• 5:12
Speaker A: Oh, all right. So, I mean, I guess crazy far.
• 5:16
  Speaker F: About 45, 50.
• 5:17
Speaker C: Well, I grew up in Pittsfield, too, so I don't. Yeah, we grew up. Me and Noah grew up together.
• 5:23
  Speaker F: Okay.
• 5:24
Speaker C: Yeah, we've known each other since we were, like, six, so.
• 5:27
Speaker A: Oh, that's wild. I love that. Here comes Calvin puppy.
• 5:31
  Speaker C: Hi, Calvin.
• 5:32
Speaker A: I was just saying, on one of the last episodes that I recorded, I recorded a bunch today. I'm like, calvin's been in this room for every single recorded episode of.
• 5:40
  Speaker C: He's very welcome.
• 5:41
Speaker A: Yeah, he just. He may have killed something outside. That's fine. He's been on a bird killing epidemic. Like, all these fucking birds are, like, making nests in the yard and then just, like, hanging around when they're done. And I kept telling them, like, birds, you might want to get out of here, because. Oh, nope, too late. Calvin just hate you. Sorry.
• 6:03
Speaker C: Oh, just a snack.
• 6:05
  Speaker A: Yeah, totally.
• 6:06
Speaker C: You protect the event.
• 6:09
Speaker A: So, you know, we're talking now, I guess. You know, I remember how I said we were gonna get sidetracked, and that's totally cool. It's totally fine. We're sidetracked now, but we're. At this point. I've learned, I guess, some of the musical connections around here. But once the band started where you had a name, you had all four members, like, solidified. What are we talking about for a timeline there? You don't have to get specific.
• 6:34
Speaker F: Oh, well, no, but even still, it was like, there's been different members, you know, different bass player, different guitarist. Now still me and Tony. He can't get rid of me, so he's stuck. But. So we had Jay Williams. He was in the damaged back in the day. He played bass for them. He played guitar for us. And Jesse Whitney, who was in Anacortes, she was playing bass for us.
• 6:59
Speaker A: Well, you know, it's funny is when I was playing that theme song that was from the Anacortes episode.
• 7:07
Speaker F: We love both of them. They're great. Just timing and all that. Work schedules. So we got Rachel, and she happens to be my wife and live with me, so she kind of forced it upon her to play bass. You're in the band now. And then we picked up Noah a few months ago, four or five months ago, something like that.
• 7:25
Speaker C: Since they already have the history, it just kind of made sense. Yeah, and he's our friend and we love him.
• 7:30
Speaker A: And that's such a great theme within like local music. And one of the other bands that was on today was talking about that. Is that important to making? You can't make music if you're with people that you're not friends with. You know what I mean? Like, if it's just like a.
• 7:47
  Speaker C: From Craigslist.
• 7:48
Speaker A: Right, totally. Just like someone you don't know.
• 7:50
Speaker F: Like, that's how I got John and Justin become.
• 7:52
Speaker A: Yeah, you could become something with that. But like right out of the gate, it's gonna be very hard to be like, all right, let's. You know, cuz you gotta figure each other out. And especially having, like, you two have like knowing each other forever. And then, you know, you two obviously being married, like, those are like, we know each other. Yeah, you know each other.
• 8:11
  Speaker C: Tony.
• 8:12
  Speaker F: And there's Tony.
• 8:15
Speaker E: Well, like. No, that I met Noah shortly after that iteration of dance. Cancer stopped when we were both going to school together. And then at the same time, that's how I met Tom and started playing music with him about like six years ago.
• 8:28
Speaker F: Cause drummers are so difficult to keep.
• 8:30
  Speaker A: Yeah, geez.
• 8:31
Speaker F: They're the hardest to get.
• 8:33
  Speaker A: They really.
• 8:34
Speaker F: And that's why other bands are.
• 8:35
Speaker A: That's gonna say, like, that's the thing. That's why that a lot of drummers are in so many bands. It's like such high demand cuz without a let a solid drummer, it's.
• 8:45
  Speaker E: Yeah.
• 8:46
Speaker F: Oh, we said we had him sign a contract. He's not allowed to play with any other bands.
• 8:49
Speaker E: It's true. I think about that.
• 8:53
  Speaker F: There's a blood contract.
• 8:54
Speaker E: Yeah, I have it in a folder in my home, signed in blood, like waiting for it. There's an expiration date, but it's not for like another 25 years. And I'm like, you know, just like.
• 9:04
Speaker A: Yeah, by then I'm not even gonna be old.
• 9:07
Speaker E: Yeah, exactly. Like, just stop.
• 9:11
Speaker A: And so, you know, being new, you know, I don't know what you have for like recorded stuff, stuff that you're working on, but where are you at with.
• 9:21
Speaker F: So we're hitting the studio the 21st, 22nd, 23rd of this month, June. Don Fury studio in Troy. I recorded with him a little bit ago with same old rat. It was a lot of fun. He's so good capturing sound. And then we're gonna try to release it early July. We're gonna call it the cat ep. It songs named after our cats. Because we love our fucking cats.
• 9:46
Speaker A: Nice. Sweet. And so since nothing is out right now, what we're gonna do is you've brought some instruments, and you're gonna do, like, a stripped down version, which you've. You've not really done with these songs, correct?
• 10:03
  Speaker F: No, never.
• 10:04
Speaker C: This is the first.
• 10:04
Speaker A: So this is gonna be, like, a first attempt. Give it a go.
• 10:09
Speaker F: She got the acoustic bass for this.
• 10:11
  Speaker C: I literally did.
• 10:12
Speaker A: Really? And before you go, you are gonna have to let me play that a little bit, because I've been thinking about getting an acoustic bass, but I've never really played one, and I'm a.
• 10:20
Speaker C: You're gonna love it.
• 10:22
Speaker A: I'm the bass player in my band as well, so, like, I want to. I want to check that out.
• 10:25
Speaker F: It's tuned low. It's in, like, drop c or D stand.
• 10:28
Speaker A: Oh, sick. Then I'll play some Deftone songs. Well, cool. Well, let's have you play a song. What are we gonna do first?
• 10:38
Speaker C: Oh, we're gonna play wolf for you guys.
• 10:41
Speaker A: And I'm assuming that is the name of one of the cats.
• 10:43
  Speaker C: Yes, it is.
• 10:44
Speaker F: The cat that is tattooed on my back.
• 10:45
Speaker C: Our favorite. Our favorite.
• 10:47
  Speaker F: He's our baby.
• 10:48
Speaker A: Look at Calvin, by the way.
• 10:49
  Speaker F: He's like, brother.
• 10:51
Speaker A: He's like, did somebody just say cat up in here?
• 10:54
  Speaker C: Need them.
• 10:55
Speaker A: All right, well, cool. Well, give you a second to set up here, and we're going to listen to wolf live here in the dazzle den from no such thing as ghosts, and then we'll be right back.
• 11:12
Speaker G: Take over from the shame I'm throwing at you I could never find a way to love someone like you.
• 11:27
  Speaker F: And.
• 11:27
Speaker G: Take pleasure in the pain I'm giving to you I could never find the time to be someone like you took the words right out of my head she said, she said her eyes were looking a little more and she said took the words right out of my head she said, she said Risa. Looked a little more and she said so take cover from the days I'm without you I could think of other ways to have someone like you.
• 12:42
  Speaker F: And.
• 12:43
Speaker G: Take order from the waves I'm throwing at you I could never find a way to love someone like you took the words right out of my head she said, she said her eyes are looking a little more red she said took the words right out of my head she said, she said took the words right out of my head she said, she said her eyes were looking a little more red she said took the words right out of my head she said, she said rising little and she said out of my head she said, she said rising a little more. And she said, oh.
• 15:07
Speaker A: All right, so that was wolf. No such thing as ghost live here in the dazzle den. And we were talking before that you were not. Not only nominated, and I love how, like, when you said you were nominated for award and then you topped it off with, oh, and we won, too, you know, by the way, instead of leading with, oh, we won an award. Yeah, we were nominated for something, which we fucking won.
• 15:30
Speaker C: Well, we were just shocked in the first place that we were even nominated for it.
• 15:36
Speaker A: And we're talking about the listen up awards. Yes. And I think that's such a cool thing because it's the scene that's voting. You know what I mean? It's not somebody that's, like, picking, hey, we'll get this band and this band and this band, and we'll let people choose between these four bands or whatever that we decide. It's literally like, they open up the fucking floodgates and anybody can vote for, like, whoever. So it's such a. It's such a great way to Jumpstart. I mean, not a career. Cause obviously this isn't the first, like, notes you've played, but, like, it's such a great way to jumpstart name recognition in the scene.
• 16:16
Speaker F: And we're so new to the scene, too, so it definitely helps out.
• 16:18
Speaker A: Right. And it'll pull you. You know, it'll pull you right in.
• 16:21
Speaker F: It felt really good, too, after we won, I got so many texts and emails and messages, like, I voted for you. I voted for you so many times. And, like, I didn't even know that you knew I was in a band. You're actually paying attention to me, like, holy crap, this is nice.
• 16:34
Speaker A: That is wild. And. And, noah, when you joined the band, it was just before the ceremony.
• 16:42
  Speaker F: Yeah.
• 16:42
Speaker D: So I joined about a week before. And you're an award winning musician. We had, I think, one or two practices, and they told me, like, oh, and by the way, we're nominated for this. And I was like, oh, cool.
• 16:58
Speaker F: And then I didn't do shit.
• 16:59
Speaker D: Yeah. And then I got a text, what, two or three days later that we had won. And I just feel like I accomplished something in life by winning an award I did absolutely nothing for.
• 17:13
Speaker A: I would have just been smugly going around to everybody be, like, telling everybody I'm an award nominee. I'm an award winner, by the way.
• 17:24
Speaker F: You know, wear the plaque on a chain around your neck.
• 17:27
Speaker A: Oh, I keep thinking, anybody watch parks and rec, like, where Ron wins the woman of the year, and she's like, that's not the attitude of award winner. And he goes, everything I do is the attitude of. And again, that's a hell of a way to start off a tenure in a band.
• 17:46
  Speaker F: Oh, yeah.
• 17:46
Speaker A: Just like, come in, win shit, continue. And did you find that, like, not only, like, incorporating you into, like, the scene more? You know, because, again, the. The name recognition. Like, I. You know, I told you I don't do research, but I've heard the name. It feels like, for, like, a long time. You know, when you were like, we're wicked new. I was like, all right, wait, really?
• 18:09
Speaker C: You guys started, like, two years?
• 18:12
  Speaker F: We tried, so.
• 18:13
Speaker C: Oh, two years ago.
• 18:14
Speaker F: So I had a plan, okay. And the plan was, we're gonna rehearse, we're gonna record, we're gonna release some shit, and then we'll start playing shows. We had a couple practices. Yeah, Tony's getting ready. A couple practices. And this guy and Jay and Jesse, because they got offered a gig in Pittsfield, they're like, we're doing it. We're doing it. It's like, oh, we weren't ready.
• 18:33
Speaker E: It seemed like a good idea at the time.
• 18:34
Speaker F: It was bad. It was a bad idea. To him.
• 18:36
Speaker E: It seemed like a bad idea at the time, but to us, it seemed like a good idea at the time.
• 18:39
  Speaker F: But was it?
• 18:40
  Speaker E: No, no.
• 18:42
Speaker F: So my plan was to do all that, and I don't know where I was going with that.
• 18:47
Speaker E: The fact of that. We were playing for a bit, which is why.
• 18:51
Speaker F: Yeah, we played for a tiny bit. Yeah. But I mean, with so many, like, we changed our sound every time we got a new member. When Rachel joined the band, we got almost more pop and indie. We were originally a little bit more punk rock. She joined the band. It got really indie pop. And then when he came with his sound, every time a new member. Yeah. He brought the Noah to the band, and the sound evolved and changed. So, I mean, really? I feel like. Yeah, yeah.
• 19:17
Speaker E: It is the thing that pushes over the edge.
• 19:18
Speaker F: It feels even newer than it is just because it's the four of us now doing it. So.
• 19:24
Speaker A: Cool. Well, I love that I caught you right at the right time then. Yeah. But, yeah, definitely. It's definitely a catchy name. And I guess just from my own curiosity, where did the name come from?
• 19:34
  Speaker E: Tom.
• 19:35
Speaker F: Yeah, it was me. Yeah. No one else wanted it. It wasn't like nobody else wanted it.
• 19:41
Speaker A: I was fucking great.
• 19:42
Speaker F: I like it. And then we had nstag. Nstag? Yeah, as a little abbreviation. And then we have a little logo or mascot. It's a ghost elope. So it's the. It's on the shirt. It's a little sweet. Yeah, I got the antlers and all that.
• 19:56
Speaker D: I told you because you were just kind of telling me some of your ideas and stuff. A couple years ago, you threw that name out, and I was like, that doesn't work.
• 20:05
Speaker F: Yeah. Nobody likes it, but I think it's definitely memorable.
• 20:10
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 20:11
Speaker C: I thought it was wordy at first, even, because, like, he was having band practices in our house, and I'm listening in to the band practices, so, like, I already knew all the songs and everything like that, but he was like, what do you think of the name? I was like, I don't know. It's kind of like a mouthful. But then it made me think of, like, death cab for cutie. Like, right. You know, like, multiple, which is an amazing band, but I don't know, I think it works.
• 20:37
Speaker A: Yeah, I like it.
• 20:38
Speaker F: I don't mind it. The band names, song names, all that. It's the hardest part.
• 20:41
  Speaker A: Oh, yeah.
• 20:42
Speaker F: Playing music is easy. Settling on a name. Settling on song name.
• 20:47
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 20:47
Speaker F: That's why we just named the songs after our cats.
• 20:49
Speaker C: I love our songs are strange, but.
• 20:53
Speaker F: We love our cats, so we're gonna love it.
• 20:55
Speaker A: You can do whatever the fuck you want. You know what I mean? And, like. And that's another cool thing about a local scene, is that there's nobody being like, okay, guys, come on. The cat thing? Really? Yeah.
• 21:04
Speaker F: Well, people were upset with dance cancer.
• 21:07
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 21:07
Speaker F: They just didn't. I mean, people don't like cancer.
• 21:10
Speaker A: I mean. Well, good. They shouldn't, like. You know, it's funny, I never even thought of that as being, like, quite.
• 21:18
Speaker D: A few shows back in the day. We had quite a few people who were very upset.
• 21:23
  Speaker F: Yeah.
• 21:24
Speaker D: With us over the name. And we're really kind of surprised by how serious people were not happy about it.
• 21:32
Speaker A: Wow. There's a lot. There's. I mean, you know, there's lots worse names, right?
• 21:38
Speaker C: There's so many sad names like Goblin, cock.
• 21:41
Speaker F: But, hey, that's a great band.
• 21:44
Speaker A: It sounds like the name of, like, a great trivia team or something.
• 21:47
Speaker C: Oh, my God, right?
• 21:49
  Speaker F: Rob Crow.
• 21:50
Speaker C: Rob Crow. We love Rob Crow.
• 21:52
Speaker F: Do you know pin back? Oh, what's the other one?
• 21:55
Speaker C: The bass players band systems officer. Have you heard of that one?
• 22:00
  Speaker A: I have not.
• 22:00
Speaker F: We've just obsessed with them lately.
• 22:02
Speaker C: So once we discover those bands, we fell in love.
• 22:06
Speaker F: We obsess over bands. It's. It's like. It's hard. I don't have, like, favorite bands. But for, like, a month or two, I'll obsess on a band and not certain songs. Yeah, that's the band I listen to. Then I forget about them. And then the next band, it's obsessive.
• 22:18
Speaker A: I do a little bit of the same. I, like, roll it into, you know, like, obsess over an album or something. And then, you know, once I'm done with it, it kind of goes away. But then, like, you know, every time I hear it, I'm like, oh, yeah, well, it's.
• 22:29
Speaker F: It's the ones that come back years later that you still enjoy. It's like, ooh, these are the bands I like, you know, and then there's some to come back. I can't believe I'm obsessed over this band. Like, this is so bad.
• 22:39
Speaker C: Yeah, he'll be showing me bands, and I'm like, what the fuck is this?
• 22:43
  Speaker A: What is this?
• 22:44
Speaker F: Some of it's more like nostalgia from when I was younger, so it brings back a feeling.
• 22:48
  Speaker E: Maybe.
• 22:48
Speaker F: I don't really like the music. I just like the memories that comes with it.
• 22:52
Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. I do the same with, like, movies. Like, there'll be these movies that I, like go to show. You know, I'm not gonna say the names of the movies because, you know, I don't want to shame them, but there was an eighties one that I was like, babe, you gotta watch it. It's super scary. It's gonna terrify you. Like, and. All right, fuck it. It was fucking poltergeist, okay? And I love Poltergeist. I've got, like, t shirts of Poltergeist. It was like. It was one of my favorite. That movie is not fucking scary. Yeah. And I was, like, embarrassed to be like, this movie scared the shit out of me when I was a kid.
• 23:25
  Speaker B: Yeah.
• 23:25
Speaker C: But for the time, I'm sure it was.
• 23:27
Speaker A: But, like, nostalgia wise, I could still be like, oh, no. That movie scared the shit out of me when I was nine. Yeah.
• 23:33
Speaker C: That was the ring for me. That was, like, the first horror movie that ever seen. And it scared me so bad.
• 23:39
  Speaker F: It's so silly.
• 23:41
Speaker C: And it is so silly.
• 23:42
Speaker A: But, like, that shit, like, my wife, the fast moving Samara shit.
• 23:47
  Speaker C: Yeah.
• 23:47
Speaker A: Anytime she sees that in any movie, it fucking freaks. Yeah.
• 23:52
  Speaker F: Yeah.
• 23:55
Speaker A: So, like, she can't watch a ring to that terrifies her. Whereas I'm like, this.
• 24:00
Speaker F: Really? Yeah, this is silly. Yeah, just punch that girl in the face.
• 24:05
  Speaker A: Fuck that.
• 24:05
Speaker F: You know, greasy haired.
• 24:10
Speaker D: The only one that I still can't stand, man. Jaws. That. That one I saw when I was five years old and that scarred me from.
• 24:21
Speaker A: I was literally just. That's the word I was gonna use that cuz I'm. You know, I was born two years before that movie came out. So basically jaws, you know, like, I remember it was still big. Like when I. And that. That fucked me up. From the ocean. I'm 51 years old. I will not go in the ocean.
• 24:36
  Speaker D: Same big.
• 24:36
Speaker F: I won't go on a cruise. I will not go on a cruise.
• 24:39
  Speaker A: Okay.
• 24:39
Speaker E: But like, big water, super scary sometimes.
• 24:42
Speaker A: Big water is very scary.
• 24:43
Speaker F: Big water, super scary most times, but.
• 24:46
Speaker E: Yes, middle of big water. When on edge of big water, you're fine, right? But no, Chucky was the thing that got me bad. Right? Cause I don't like porcelain dolls anyways. With their deadlines.
• 24:56
Speaker A: Dolls are creepy eyes, you know, and.
• 24:58
Speaker E: They'Re just staring at you and just like that just. No, I didn't do. I didn't do well with that. Yeah, yeah. Nope, nope, nope.
• 25:07
Speaker F: I don't get scared of movies.
• 25:08
Speaker A: You know, there's the. The classic. The exercise.
• 25:10
Speaker F: Oh, yeah, actually, yeah, that one ceiling.
• 25:13
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 25:13
Speaker F: That scared the shit out of.
• 25:15
Speaker E: You know what I mean? Like, I watched now and I was just like, look at those. Well, I didn't see it till I was old.
• 25:19
Speaker A: And, like, the thing about the exorcist now is, like, if you want, like, it's a good film. You know what I mean? It's made by, like, filmmakers. Like, it wasn't like a horror movie first, and then, like, it was like. So it holds up, like, from that standpoint, even if some of the stuff is a little cheesy.
• 25:36
Speaker E: We talk about the transition in the evil Dead trilogy from I'm scared by number one to I can't stop laughing by army of darkness.
• 25:43
Speaker A: Yeah. And then they went. They went. I mean, again, I'll fucking turn this right into a horror movie. We're right there already. But, like, we're right there already. They went. Then they went back to, like, with. With, like, dude, that house burned. Betty Alvarez.
• 25:57
Speaker E: Did you know that that house burned down?
• 25:58
Speaker A: I did know that. That.
• 26:00
Speaker E: Think Sam Raimi did it. Or do you think the actual house now? So, like, the house that they filmed evil Dead one and two. And, like, didn't we see recently?
• 26:10
Speaker F: Or was that with Cody evil dead? I think that was a Cody.
• 26:14
Speaker E: Would it like the newer one?
• 26:16
Speaker A: Yeah, that rides. The one where they're in the. The sky rise. The. Like the big apartment building.
• 26:22
  Speaker E: I haven't seen.
• 26:23
  Speaker F: I don't.
• 26:24
Speaker E: You know, like, I haven't it was.
• 26:27
Speaker A: It was good. Like, it was good.
• 26:29
  Speaker F: I really, like.
• 26:30
Speaker E: In the house is the original one.
• 26:32
  Speaker F: Yeah.
• 26:32
Speaker E: As what's his name.
• 26:33
Speaker A: The dude. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
• 26:36
Speaker F: That was good. Cheesy. Who's good, dude?
• 26:40
Speaker E: That one freaked me out.
• 26:42
Speaker F: Maybe we're talking about different movies.
• 26:44
Speaker C: Well, isn't that the one where, like, the daughter, she's, like, sleeping in her room and then, like, there's like a cabinet or a boudoir or whatever? Like.
• 26:51
Speaker A: No, there's no daughter.
• 26:53
  Speaker F: Okay.
• 26:54
Speaker C: It's like a whole. The one I'm thinking of has a whole family and they moved into a big house. You know, that's the one that Cody watched.
• 27:00
Speaker F: Oh, well, yeah, that's not what. No, we're on something else.
• 27:03
Speaker C: All right, we're off.
• 27:04
Speaker F: We're off. Well, yeah, we can edit that out.
• 27:10
Speaker A: The new one has a family in it. It's like mother and her sister and then her kids. In the sky rise.
• 27:18
  Speaker C: I don't know what I'm talking about.
• 27:19
Speaker A: It was pretty good, man. It was. It wasn't the best, but, like, it was some pretty. Pretty spooky parts, I guess. Oh, you know, we may end up editing some of this out. No, I actually. Fuck it. We won't. But are you familiar with the movie sleepaway camp from, like, the early eighties there?
• 27:37
Speaker E: That sounds wicked familiar.
• 27:39
Speaker A: It was like a direct, like, Friday 13th ripoff. And it was. I think it was from, like, 1982. So it was just a couple years after Friday 13th. But. But that was filmed, like ten minutes from here.
• 27:51
Speaker F: I believe it. I believe it was filmed right around here.
• 27:55
Speaker E: And it was a creepy camp with a lake.
• 27:57
Speaker A: It's actually not a creepy camp, but, like, the, you know, the. It's cool that, you know, if you go there today, you're just like, oh, this is nice. You know, like, it's just a lawn and a lake or whatever. But it's pretty funny watching a cheesy eighties slasher and being like, yeah, you.
• 28:12
Speaker E: Can chase kids across this field. Hell, yeah.
• 28:14
Speaker A: I actually watched because I know the guy who owns the property now. A few years ago, he screened sleepaway camp on the property.
• 28:22
  Speaker E: Nice.
• 28:23
Speaker A: So we were like, on the actual property where it was filmed. And you can see almost all of the filming locations from where we were sitting.
• 28:30
Speaker F: You see, they do that for jaws where they'll be on a lake.
• 28:34
Speaker A: You would be on this number, every bit of that. Like, I wouldn't care if it was floating pool in my backyard. I would not be in water and watch jaws. There was no way that my fucking. I couldn't handle it. I wouldn't be able to handle it.
• 28:47
Speaker D: Yeah, no, I'm right there. And, you know, it sucks too. Cause I'd love to go to Cape Cod and, like, you know, look out at the ocean.
• 28:54
Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, just look.
• 28:56
Speaker D: Yeah, I'll look. I will not go, like, any for. No, I swear. I won't stand more than, like, maybe my feet at the edge and I.
• 29:06
Speaker A: Will, like, we've been on, like, you know, tropical vacations, you know, like, down, like, the Caymans and, like, Dominican, where it's like. Like crystal clear water and, like, you know, you just.
• 29:16
Speaker F: You can see him coming.
• 29:17
Speaker A: You could totally see him coming. And, like, I've done shit like that and been like, all right, cool. But, like, the regular ocean just getting in that.
• 29:24
  Speaker D: Fuck, no, no.
• 29:27
Speaker E: I fell out of a boat in the mid Atlantic, like, off the coast of Delaware as a kid. Like 5 miles away from the coast, like, into the open water. I was scared shitless. It was terrible.
• 29:37
Speaker A: Wow, that's a whole other podcast how I survived the 3 seconds it took.
• 29:44
Speaker E: For my dad to pull me out.
• 29:45
Speaker F: Yeah, yeah. With the trauma, you still have absolute ears.
• 29:49
Speaker A: Yeah, but we can. We can embellish a little bit. You know, like in those three shark.
• 29:52
Speaker E: Like, later that day and ate it, so.
• 29:55
Speaker A: Yeah, and see, we could just say, like, when you were stranded on the island, you had to kill a shark and eat it.
• 29:59
Speaker E: Yeah, I definitely. It can't be like a volleyball, though. It's got to be something else. It's got to be like, you know, kickball.
• 30:06
Speaker A: One of those red. One of those red kickballs. Like, from, like. Yeah. All right, cool. Well, we're super off track now, but.
• 30:16
Speaker F: We'Re a band and we play music.
• 30:18
Speaker C: No such thing as ghosts.
• 30:20
Speaker A: Why don't we bring it back and play one more song before we take off? So what cat is this song named?
• 30:27
Speaker C: This is Tiger. So this is Wolf's twin sister, and.
• 30:31
Speaker F: Rachel's gonna sing this one.
• 30:32
  Speaker A: Awesome.
• 30:33
Speaker C: I sing this one.
• 30:34
Speaker A: All right, cool. So let's give him another second to get set up here, and we're gonna hear tiger from no such thing as ghosts, and then we'll be right back to wrap it up.
• 30:58
Speaker B: Baby, you're driving me crazy the way you've been living leave it alone bright eyes can see when it's raining is this entertaining? Taking my phone anything? Tiger, let me go is this the only thing you know? I'm not the answer and it shows many tiger, let me go couldn't be more bright open up your eyes let it rise Mel. Eating tiger, let me go is this the only thing you know? I got the answer and it shows many tiger, let me go let me.
• 33:10
  Speaker F: Go.
• 33:14
Speaker B: Let me go let me go my God. Open up your eyes let it shine anything tiger, let me go the only thing you know I'm not the answer and it shows many tiger, let me.
• 34:07
Speaker A: Go all right, so that was Tiger. No such thing as ghosts. And I want to thank you so much for taking time out of your day to not only drive up here to horse country, but to, you know, lug your gear up and perform in the dazzle den. It was really super cool. So I appreciate that. And before we go, I just want to give you each individually a chance to say what I refer to as your gratitude. So, Rachel, we'll start with you.
• 34:35
Speaker C: All right, well, thank you for having us.
• 34:38
  Speaker A: You're welcome.
• 34:39
Speaker C: I want to say a big thank you to my kids, Aiden, Liam, and Cody. Thank you to my bandmates because you guys are awesome. And let me play bass for you guys and sing. And I guess thank you to a lot of the music scene because it's an amazing place to be and a great community to be a part of. So, yeah, hell, yeah.
• 35:02
Speaker D: I'd like to thank Rachel for thanking everyone that was on my list. I'd also like to thank my family and my friends and my wife for being supportive.
• 35:17
Speaker E: I want to thank the hauntings and the snorts for being fucking kick ass. I don't. Yeah, grape juice as well. I don't particularly like Tom, but, you know. Yeah, I'm stuck.
• 35:31
Speaker F: Yeah. Thank you guys for putting up with all my bullshit. Yeah, it really sucks for you guys. And just shout out to my oldest boy, Aiden. He's at Fort Liberty, North Carolina, right now. He's just kicking ass in the army. Miss that little fucker.
