- 4:07Speaker 3: girl at Sea book Out eight four three, and it's
- 4:11Speaker 3: another Saturday night, and you know what, I'm bringing you
- 4:14Speaker 3: a brand new author, you guys. So you guys know
- 4:20Speaker 3: the month of August sc Bookouts and Friends is dedicating
- 4:24Speaker 3: to our African American children's authors. It's time to get
- 4:30Speaker 3: those babies back and ready for school. And I truly
- 4:33Speaker 3: understand this myself, because you guys, I just spent the
- 4:37Speaker 3: last five hours doing my daughter's hair. I know, y'all
- 4:41Speaker 3: thinking five hours. She has locks, so imagine shampooing and
- 4:49Speaker 3: twisting and all that beautiful stuff.
- 4:51Speaker 1: And she has a cute.
- 4:53Speaker 3: Little style and she starts school on Monday. But I
- 4:58Speaker 3: have a good friend who's gonna help us. Was something
- 5:02Speaker 3: that we parents all have to go through, you guys.
- 5:07Speaker 3: Party training. For me, it was an experienced and I
- 5:16Speaker 3: have a daughter and I have a son, So if
- 5:18Speaker 3: I had to choose which one was horter, I would
- 5:23Speaker 3: say the daughter because she didn't want to sit still.
- 5:27Speaker 3: The sun was funny because I got some cheerios and
- 5:29Speaker 3: I throw inside the toilet and told him to shoot
- 5:33Speaker 3: and he was cool with it until the day he
- 5:37Speaker 3: had a bunch of cheerios sitting in the toilet. But
- 5:41Speaker 3: that was a whole different day. But we have an
- 5:45Speaker 3: author that wrote a book to help us with party training,
- 5:48Speaker 3: you guys. So I am going to bring up miss
- 5:51Speaker 3: Nakita Tyler.
- 5:53Speaker 1: Come on up, my dear, Thank you Miss Patrice for
- 5:58Speaker 1: having me on. Excited about this interview?
- 6:03Speaker 4: How are you?
- 6:04Speaker 1: I am doing great, I'm doing well.
- 6:08Speaker 3: So first of all, you have to tell us a
- 6:10Speaker 3: little bit about yourself.
- 6:12Speaker 1: All right, I can do that. So my name is
- 6:15Speaker 1: Nikita Tyler. I just recently became an author. It's something
- 6:19Speaker 1: that I've been wanting to do, so I recently wrote
- 6:23Speaker 1: my first book, Time to Go Party. But I am
- 6:28Speaker 1: a native of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, born and raised. I
- 6:31Speaker 1: lived in Missouri for a couple of years and I've
- 6:35Speaker 1: been here in Texas since twenty sixteen. And I love
- 6:38Speaker 1: it here. I really love it here. I have family here,
- 6:42Speaker 1: I love my job here, I have friends here, and
- 6:45Speaker 1: it's great. I've been an educator for fifteen plus years.
- 6:50Speaker 1: I really stopped counting. It's been a long time. And
- 6:55Speaker 1: I enjoy what I do. I love teaching little learners.
- 7:00Speaker 1: I love just being a positive person in general.
- 7:05Speaker 3: Yeah, that is awesome. So why childcare?
- 7:11Speaker 4: Why?
- 7:12Speaker 3: Okay, so let me let me back up with that question.
- 7:16Speaker 3: Like we talked before, I work at a library.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Mm hmm.
- 7:20Speaker 3: But everyone who works in the children's department, only one
- 7:24Speaker 3: of them has one kid. Everybody else has no kids.
- 7:30Speaker 4: So how do you.
- 7:35Speaker 3: How?
- 7:36Speaker 4: How?
- 7:37Speaker 3: What?
- 7:37Speaker 1: What made you want to write this book for kids
- 7:42Speaker 1: and deal with kids?
- 7:44Speaker 3: Oh? Dang, how do you?
- 7:46Speaker 5: How do?
- 7:47Speaker 1: I think that it's a gift to work with children general,
- 7:52Speaker 1: that is a special gift, and that's something I knew
- 7:57Speaker 1: I wanted to do at a young age. My grandmother
- 7:59Speaker 1: was a teacher. My mom was a teacher, and I
- 8:02Speaker 1: didn't just want to become a teacher because they were
- 8:05Speaker 1: a teacher. It was really nice to see them in
- 8:08Speaker 1: the classroom as a child, helping other children, and I
- 8:12Speaker 1: used to always say, you know, that's that's something I
- 8:14Speaker 1: might want to do. So I remember being in kindergarten
- 8:17Speaker 1: and they asked, you know, what do you want to
- 8:19Speaker 1: be when you grow up? Naturally, I said a teacher.
- 8:22Speaker 1: But I love kids and I feel like I'm a
- 8:26Speaker 1: magnet for them, Like I can't even explain it, but
- 8:30Speaker 1: it takes a special person. But I did realize after
- 8:34Speaker 1: I had my own and then going into childcare, like, wow,
- 8:40Speaker 1: these children are not like mine. So they're all different,
- 8:45Speaker 1: all the personalities. It's fun.
- 8:49Speaker 3: They are like okay, so why a children's book offer?
- 8:54Speaker 3: What made you want to take that role? What?
- 8:57Speaker 1: I work in the field, right, And I've read some
- 9:00Speaker 1: books and I'm kind of like I could have done this,
- 9:03Speaker 1: or if I would have done better. But reading is important, right,
- 9:08Speaker 1: and I see so many different scenarios on a daily basis,
- 9:15Speaker 1: and I feel like I can write books that can
- 9:17Speaker 1: help not only teachers, but parents at home as well.
- 9:22Speaker 1: But Times Ago Party was my very first book because
- 9:25Speaker 1: I've worked with with two year olds that stage right
- 9:30Speaker 1: where you maybe one some one year olds may start,
- 9:35Speaker 1: but that's the age group where you really work on
- 9:40Speaker 1: partty training. And I found that one of the hardest
- 9:43Speaker 1: things for them to do was stop playing to go
- 9:47Speaker 1: use the restroom. So I was like, what better than
- 9:49Speaker 1: to write a book, I mean and sit down and
- 9:52Speaker 1: teach them about it.
- 9:54Speaker 3: That is true, that's and that's why one of the
- 9:59Speaker 3: things I deal with my son because he would not stop.
- 10:02Speaker 3: He would just keep on going and then he's ready
- 10:05Speaker 3: to stop. I'm like, no, man, I need you to
- 10:07Speaker 3: stop when you first feel it exactly. So when he
- 10:11Speaker 3: started to realize the cheerios was a game, it was like,
- 10:15Speaker 3: oh okay, I could do this all the time.
- 10:18Speaker 1: It's like made it fun, and that's what it's all about.
- 10:21Speaker 1: That's what it's all about. I think the part I
- 10:24Speaker 1: enjoy is the fun underwear. Get the character underwears and
- 10:28Speaker 1: tell them we got to keep them dry, we gotta
- 10:29Speaker 1: keep them clean. It's okay to stop for a minute
- 10:33Speaker 1: and go use the restroom. Your work will still be
- 10:35Speaker 1: here when you get back. But that's a hard concept
- 10:41Speaker 1: for some of them to understand. Sometimes. I never thought
- 10:45Speaker 1: about the character underwears. Yes, you know those are fun.
- 10:50Speaker 1: You picked that find something that they're really interested in
- 10:54Speaker 1: and build off that like they love it, and then
- 10:58Speaker 1: the celebration after they go, oh, we used to have
- 11:00Speaker 1: parties when I worked in the two year old room,
- 11:02Speaker 1: like it was fun.
- 11:05Speaker 3: Yeah, we had the pp and the party song.
- 11:07Speaker 1: Oh yeah, make it fun. Yeah.
- 11:13Speaker 3: So what tip would you give a first time parent
- 11:16Speaker 3: that is leading to body train like they're at their
- 11:22Speaker 3: which end. Little Johnny or little a little Claire is
- 11:29Speaker 3: just not getting it right.
- 11:31Speaker 1: What would you say to me, sometimes it takes a
- 11:34Speaker 1: minute for certain kids to get it. So first, I
- 11:37Speaker 1: would say, have patience, and that's something that I really
- 11:41Speaker 1: have a lot of. Everybody don't have, and I know
- 11:43Speaker 1: that's one of my gifts. I have a lot of patience.
- 11:46Speaker 1: So I would definitely encourage parents, caregivers, whoever's party training
- 11:52Speaker 1: to have patience, a lot of it and just make
- 11:56Speaker 1: it fun. Make it a fun experience and it'll be great.
- 12:01Speaker 3: Okay, So, as an author, what would you say was
- 12:10Speaker 3: the hardest part about writing a book? Was it the
- 12:14Speaker 3: getting the process together, the illustration and trying to market?
- 12:22Speaker 3: What part was the hardest?
- 12:25Speaker 1: I think for me, so excuse me. I used Canva
- 12:32Speaker 1: and I love graphics. That's something that I love to
- 12:35Speaker 1: play around with. So that was pretty much the easy part.
- 12:39Speaker 1: Coming up with the words and the content for the
- 12:42Speaker 1: book wasn't hard. But I think for me, marketing probably
- 12:45Speaker 1: has been like the biggest challenge.
- 12:49Speaker 3: Are you self published or are you publishing under under
- 12:56Speaker 3: publishing company?
- 12:58Speaker 1: I have self published all of my books, so this
- 13:03Speaker 1: is still so new. I'm still researching and trying to
- 13:06Speaker 1: figure out that marketing part. But I'm gonna get it.
- 13:11Speaker 1: You're gonna get it.
- 13:12Speaker 3: So how many books do you have under your built?
- 13:14Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 13:15Speaker 1: How many? Which is I'm sorry what you say?
- 13:18Speaker 3: How many books do you I have? How many books
- 13:21Speaker 3: do you have on this?
- 13:22Speaker 1: I have six children books and I also published a
- 13:27Speaker 1: like self help book of positive affirmations.
- 13:33Speaker 3: Oh wow, So six children's books? Which one is your
- 13:43Speaker 3: baby Baby? Which one?
- 13:46Speaker 1: Absolutely love? It would have to be my my God
- 13:52Speaker 1: is Good book? God is Good? Cans it? But yeah,
- 13:58Speaker 1: she is my b on the screen.
- 14:02Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 14:02Speaker 1: So this is my favorite. And it's my favorite because
- 14:09Speaker 1: I grew up in the church and I think when
- 14:12Speaker 1: you teach children at a young age about God, like
- 14:17Speaker 1: that's something that won't they won't depart from. So that's
- 14:20Speaker 1: one of my favorite books. And it teachers of gratitude.
- 14:24Speaker 1: That's that's super important too.
- 14:29Speaker 3: Yes, because that's something that a lot of kids really
- 14:33Speaker 3: don't know. It's about gratitude, especially this generation, because there
- 14:41Speaker 3: are a lot of give me, give me, give me,
- 14:42Speaker 3: give me, give me, give me an instant, instant. Absolutely,
- 14:46Speaker 3: I think that is a great book.
- 14:49Speaker 1: Okay, that's that's my favorite.
- 14:54Speaker 3: That's your favorite?
- 14:55Speaker 1: Okay?
- 14:56Speaker 3: Can you tell us about your other titles that you have?
- 15:00Speaker 1: So I do I have time to go party. Of course,
- 15:04Speaker 1: time to go party. God is Good, which has just
- 15:08Speaker 1: kind of talked about. And then I have, uh, I
- 15:14Speaker 1: don't want to go to school. So that's something that
- 15:17Speaker 1: I've seen in the cloud. Well, you know, children come
- 15:21Speaker 1: to school they really don't want to. They didn't want
- 15:24Speaker 1: to come for whatever reason. So I wrote that book
- 15:28Speaker 1: to kind of help with with that. I also have
- 15:32Speaker 1: Keep my Body Safe and feeling feeling blue and I
- 15:40Speaker 1: don't know what to do about big feelings that we
- 15:43Speaker 1: really don't know what to do with. That book will
- 15:47Speaker 1: help with that. I know as adult we have feelings
- 15:52Speaker 1: that we really don't know what to do with right
- 15:55Speaker 1: Oh no.
- 15:55Speaker 3: No, my nine year old, because that little girl, we
- 15:58Speaker 3: have some eaglely EMUs And I'd be like, hey, look girl,
- 16:02Speaker 3: I don't know what to tell you life right now,
- 16:04Speaker 3: but I you to get it together.
- 16:06Speaker 1: That's one of the things that I value about teaching,
- 16:10Speaker 1: like teaching about character and social and emotional like because
- 16:14Speaker 1: a lot of people don't understand. You want your kids
- 16:17Speaker 1: to go to school and learn ABC one, two three,
- 16:20Speaker 1: but if they can't cope or have you know, their
- 16:25Speaker 1: social emotional together, that they won't be able to learn anything.
- 16:27Speaker 3: So.
- 16:29Speaker 1: That's important. And then I also have colors, numbers, and shapes.
- 16:37Speaker 1: Those are mine.
- 16:38Speaker 3: That's why do I see I see work books coming
- 16:41Speaker 3: from me.
- 16:41Speaker 1: I don't know why that's important too, My positive information book,
- 16:51Speaker 1: so that could be for I say, it's designed for
- 16:54Speaker 1: teens adults, it's helpful for me. I pull it out
- 17:00Speaker 1: when I needed.
- 17:01Speaker 3: That is awesome. But yeah, I did need the one
- 17:05Speaker 3: but the blue, because.
- 17:06Speaker 1: Hey, this is a little one.
- 17:07Speaker 3: I don't know what to do these little kids. I mean,
- 17:11Speaker 3: my daughter came to me and said, Mom, today was
- 17:16Speaker 3: a date. I'm looking at her, like, girl, you're just
- 17:18Speaker 3: been in your own looking at tivvy? Will you talking
- 17:20Speaker 3: about the days and day? What the world so like?
- 17:25Speaker 3: For me as a parent, I literally take off the
- 17:28Speaker 3: first three days of school because I know that I'm
- 17:32Speaker 3: gonna have to be emotionally ready to sit down here
- 17:35Speaker 3: and talk to the girl for about a good hour
- 17:38Speaker 3: and a half about her little eight hours a day
- 17:42Speaker 3: in school.
- 17:43Speaker 1: So it's important. The fact that you take the time
- 17:47Speaker 1: to do that, that's important because some people don't have
- 17:51Speaker 1: five minutes for their children. And the fact that she's
- 17:54Speaker 1: able to open up and tell you about her day,
- 17:57Speaker 1: that is important. Kudos you for taking the time to
- 18:01Speaker 1: do that.
- 18:02Speaker 3: Okay, what can I call you for a bottle one
- 18:04Speaker 3: after we get managed?
- 18:05Speaker 1: Because you sure can.
- 18:07Speaker 3: I am always you sure can. If I have to
- 18:11Speaker 3: hear about Meson and Destiny and Lauren and all their
- 18:14Speaker 3: little buddies, I love it. I love it.
- 18:19Speaker 1: Be a listening here for her. That's awesome.
- 18:23Speaker 3: So how do you do you read your books to
- 18:27Speaker 3: your students in your class?
- 18:30Speaker 1: I have not read these particular books to my children,
- 18:33Speaker 1: because I think we spoke before. I work with infants, right,
- 18:37Speaker 1: I work with six weeks to twelve months. I haven't
- 18:41Speaker 1: read my books to those. But I've recently discussed with
- 18:44Speaker 1: like the director of my school, maybe going into the
- 18:47Speaker 1: older classrooms and reading with those those kiddos.
- 18:51Speaker 3: Okay, how about have you gone to like libraries or
- 18:56Speaker 3: other kid friendly events and spoken to kids about your books?
- 19:01Speaker 5: I have not.
- 19:02Speaker 1: That's something that I want to do though, That's something
- 19:05Speaker 1: I'm gonna be working on in the future.
- 19:08Speaker 3: Awesome, awesome, So tell us a little bit about how
- 19:13Speaker 3: to party like your character's names or you know, tell
- 19:17Speaker 3: us a little bit about that one.
- 19:19Speaker 1: So the guy, the little fella that you see on
- 19:24Speaker 1: the cover. He's not exactly like a character. It's more
- 19:30Speaker 1: so about the message. Okay, so whenever you read it,
- 19:34Speaker 1: it'll kind of tell you or the pictures, like the
- 19:37Speaker 1: kiddos can relate, like they play with blogs and they
- 19:40Speaker 1: play with their friends all day. So it's not more
- 19:44Speaker 1: so a character in the book. It's a message that
- 19:47Speaker 1: I'm giving.
- 19:49Speaker 3: That's okay, that's great. I mean least me knowing that. Okay,
- 19:52Speaker 3: you guys, you feel that.
- 19:54Speaker 1: Little inkling right right, and they focus so much on
- 19:59Speaker 1: but I want to stop playing and then you have
- 20:02Speaker 1: to understand, like or explain to them, your work will
- 20:05Speaker 1: still be there. I just need you to go release
- 20:08Speaker 1: what's in your body and you can. And it's motivating
- 20:11Speaker 1: them saying you can do this, you know, talking them
- 20:14Speaker 1: through it, and then they do it. We talk about
- 20:17Speaker 1: washing our hands and being all done and we celebrate
- 20:20Speaker 1: after and how proud mom and dad are you for
- 20:22Speaker 1: getting that done?
- 20:23Speaker 3: So that is awesome, awesome, awesome. So where would you
- 20:30Speaker 3: like your journey to go as a children's author?
- 20:35Speaker 1: I would like my journey to go far. I want
- 20:39Speaker 1: to see people sharing the books. I want to see
- 20:42Speaker 1: children reading the books, teachers sharing the books, and I
- 20:45Speaker 1: want to hear all the excitement that's going on when
- 20:48Speaker 1: when these stories are being read to the children. So
- 20:53Speaker 1: I'm excited. I want to I want to hear and
- 20:55Speaker 1: see all about And I've gotten a couple of videos
- 20:59Speaker 1: and some from parents. I've gotten a book and that
- 21:03Speaker 1: really warn't my heart to see that they enjoyed it.
- 21:06Speaker 1: And so my pictures on the back of so some
- 21:09Speaker 1: of the kids that know me, they were like, oh,
- 21:11Speaker 1: that's Mesquita, so they'll know like I wrote that book.
- 21:15Speaker 1: So that's pretty exciting. That is cool.
- 21:19Speaker 3: So we have a question for you. What's your passion
- 21:22Speaker 3: for children's book? What drives you to focus on children?
- 21:25Speaker 4: Oh?
- 21:27Speaker 1: So my my passion is children hearing stories and getting
- 21:32Speaker 1: something meaningful from it. I've been in education for fifteen
- 21:37Speaker 1: plus years. As I discussed and they said, what drives
- 21:42Speaker 1: you to focus on children? Like I love children? I
- 21:46Speaker 1: don't know. I'm a magnet for children. So that's my drive.
- 21:50Speaker 1: Like seeing them learn and that light bulb. When that
- 21:55Speaker 1: light bulb comes on and then I see that they
- 21:58Speaker 1: got something like that does something for me that's exciting.
- 22:04Speaker 1: So that's.
- 22:07Speaker 3: Do you see yourself writing for an older age group
- 22:11Speaker 3: or even adult books.
- 22:14Speaker 1: Yes, I'm actually working on my personal story at the moment.
- 22:21Speaker 1: That's what I was doing before I became a children's author.
- 22:25Speaker 1: I've always wanted to tell my personal story. So that's
- 22:29Speaker 1: what I'm currently working on. It's just taking me some
- 22:34Speaker 1: time to get it out because it's therapy for me. Yeah.
- 22:41Speaker 1: So I didn't even know I was going to be
- 22:46Speaker 1: a children's author, but something came to me one day
- 22:52Speaker 1: and I said, you know what, I can start here
- 22:55Speaker 1: while I'm working on my parents story. I can start here.
- 23:00Speaker 1: So right now I'm working on my personal story. Okay, okay,
- 23:06Speaker 1: so we have a question. Somebody says, do you have
- 23:11Speaker 1: coloring books? I do not have coloring books at the moment.
- 23:16Speaker 1: Not to say that, I mean I won't, but I
- 23:22Speaker 1: do not have coloring books at the moment.
- 23:26Speaker 3: Okay, So, if you can partner with any author and
- 23:34Speaker 3: write a book, well, let's see. If you can partner
- 23:38Speaker 3: with any author, who.
- 23:40Speaker 1: Would it be?
- 23:44Speaker 5: You know what?
- 23:45Speaker 1: I really like Jamie Lee Curtis.
- 23:49Speaker 3: Her books are fun.
- 23:52Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm sorry, but is she up the age nine?
- 23:57Speaker 3: Now? Then it was.
- 24:01Speaker 1: Sure, I'm not sure, but I really love her books.
- 24:06Speaker 1: My favorite book of hers is Big Words. For little people,
- 24:10Speaker 1: because I just love to hear little kids say big words.
- 24:14Speaker 1: That's the funnest thing ever. And so I think I
- 24:19Speaker 1: would want to pair with her because vocabulary using a
- 24:22Speaker 1: large vocabulary, like coming from a child, that's amazing to me.
- 24:27Speaker 1: And then when they know what it means.
- 24:31Speaker 3: That's yes, yes, Actually, when they know what it means,
- 24:35Speaker 3: you're like, yes, yes, I love that.
- 24:41Speaker 1: So you have a question.
- 24:43Speaker 3: Are you connected with any other authors, any mutual friends
- 24:47Speaker 3: or people you found along the way.
- 24:52Speaker 1: Other than like friends or family that I know that
- 24:56Speaker 1: are authors. I'm not connected with people outside of that,
- 25:01Speaker 1: Like I just published my first book at the end
- 25:04Speaker 1: of April, so this is still new for me. I'm
- 25:08Speaker 1: looking forward to networking with different people. Yeah, so other
- 25:13Speaker 1: than friends, family, I haven't connected with other authors, but
- 25:19Speaker 1: I'm looking forward to it because I will.
- 25:24Speaker 3: Well, you know you got us, So anything we can do,
- 25:27Speaker 3: you let us know.
- 25:28Speaker 1: Absolutely. Somebody say kids say the dark, Yes they do,
- 25:33Speaker 1: they are there. They I found that.
- 25:39Speaker 3: Out during COVID when we had the homeschool our kids.
- 25:43Speaker 3: Yes here, these kids say I'm at the camera, Like yo, dude,
- 25:49Speaker 3: he just say that. I know.
- 25:51Speaker 1: And they could be so brutally honest, but I love it.
- 25:57Speaker 3: It's so innocent. If you could write a subject for
- 26:03Speaker 3: a child, Well, this is gonna be a two part question,
- 26:08Speaker 3: so I'll do the first. If you can write a
- 26:09Speaker 3: subject for a child that has not been covered and
- 26:13Speaker 3: you feel it's very important, what would the subject be?
- 26:17Speaker 1: Hmmm, ohmi, I don't know. I see so much on
- 26:26Speaker 1: a daily basis in a classroom, and that that's my
- 26:31Speaker 1: thought process when I'm coming up with these titles, thinking
- 26:35Speaker 1: of subjects or things that I could write about. I
- 26:40Speaker 1: don't know. I have to think more about that. I
- 26:44Speaker 1: know that don't want to go to school. That one
- 26:47Speaker 1: really stuck out for me. That's why I have a
- 26:49Speaker 1: character in there run and his mom because he was
- 26:53Speaker 1: stuck on I'm not going to school. But I have
- 26:58Speaker 1: to really think about that. I haven't thought about it.
- 27:02Speaker 3: Okay, So before I ask that next question, the Crew
- 27:06Speaker 3: podcast is Welcome to the world of authorship.
- 27:09Speaker 1: Thank you so much, thank you, thank you, thank you.
- 27:12Speaker 1: I'm excited about the journey, I really am.
- 27:17Speaker 3: And then another question that's come to my mind. They're
- 27:19Speaker 3: just coming. So, if you can write a book about
- 27:23Speaker 3: a certain someone that you feel that kids should know about,
- 27:28Speaker 3: who would it be or an event?
- 27:31Speaker 1: Who or what would it be? And why? Oh you
- 27:39Speaker 1: got me with this one.
- 27:44Speaker 3: I know I've seen so many things covered.
- 27:52Speaker 1: I really think, h yeah, that is something I would
- 27:59Speaker 1: really have.
- 28:01Speaker 3: I think, okay, so for me, for me as a parent,
- 28:04Speaker 3: for my daughter, I would have to say. And even
- 28:09Speaker 3: though it's been covered so many times, I think even
- 28:11Speaker 3: with the age of social media and stuff, I think
- 28:13Speaker 3: it has to be that self love. Because of talking
- 28:22Speaker 3: to my daughter and doing your hair today, she's like, think,
- 28:27Speaker 3: I'm ready to get rid of my locks. I would
- 28:29Speaker 3: like to have a long flowing head. What your mama
- 28:34Speaker 3: head is full seed and your daddy we don't even
- 28:38Speaker 3: know what he got under his cap and you want
- 28:40Speaker 3: long soaki here. I don't think that's gonna happen to
- 28:43Speaker 3: the baby girl.
- 28:46Speaker 1: Yes, I love that subject. Self love is so important
- 28:52Speaker 1: not only for tidmen but us as it's important for everybody.
- 28:56Speaker 1: And that's actually a subject that I value. I think
- 28:59Speaker 1: that will be some teaching. I just had to woosa,
- 29:07Speaker 1: it's so important. It's just so important. I have a friend,
- 29:11Speaker 1: she's really good and so love She takes time to
- 29:14Speaker 1: get her hair down. She works like a lot, but
- 29:17Speaker 1: she takes the time to get the hair to nails done,
- 29:19Speaker 1: it takes time to take herself out to eat. I
- 29:21Speaker 1: have to practice practice that a little bit more. But
- 29:24Speaker 1: for children, that is really important. So that's what I
- 29:28Speaker 1: love that subject. Hmmm, Like, well, hmmm, maybe you have
- 29:37Speaker 1: a question.
- 29:40Speaker 3: Would you consider writing any books geared towards the current
- 29:44Speaker 3: age group you work with?
- 29:47Speaker 1: Absolutely, I've been thinking about it. I'm like, I work
- 29:51Speaker 1: with infants, so I mean know a lot of their
- 29:54Speaker 1: books are board books, of course, but you have the
- 30:00Speaker 1: the high contrast images that they need to see, I
- 30:03Speaker 1: mean picture books. That's something that I've absolutely thought about.
- 30:07Speaker 3: Yes, yes, yeah, ooh. When should we really focus on
- 30:13Speaker 3: self love for kids?
- 30:15Speaker 1: Oh Miah? As soon as they get here, we talk
- 30:18Speaker 1: to them about it, like have them looking in the mirror, saying,
- 30:23Speaker 1: you know you're teaching them. Like, I think as soon
- 30:26Speaker 1: as anything are born, we can teach them about self
- 30:30Speaker 1: love looking in the mirror, because they look in the
- 30:31Speaker 1: mirror and they're smiling at themselves, and you can look
- 30:34Speaker 1: with them and say that's you, You're beautiful.
- 30:37Speaker 3: Look at you.
- 30:38Speaker 1: I think as soon as they're born, we can talk
- 30:40Speaker 1: to them about about loving themselves.
- 30:44Speaker 3: That is so correct. So my last question for you
- 30:50Speaker 3: is how does it feel being an African American children's
- 30:54Speaker 3: often during this time?
- 30:58Speaker 1: It feels amazing. When I realized that my first book
- 31:04Speaker 1: was being published, I was like, careally an author, look
- 31:08Speaker 1: at me. Like when I got my first copy in email,
- 31:11Speaker 1: I was like, this is mine.
- 31:13Speaker 3: I did this.
- 31:14Speaker 1: It feels great. It is great.
- 31:17Speaker 3: It is because to see the development of diversity and
- 31:24Speaker 3: the willingness of people to write the books for or
- 31:33Speaker 3: be authors of color is full. It is so beautiful
- 31:39Speaker 3: and we thank you for that. We truly do.
- 31:44Speaker 1: I appreciate it, thinks.
- 31:46Speaker 3: So before we leave, you gotta tell us how we
- 31:50Speaker 3: can get your book, tell us how we can't follow
- 31:54Speaker 3: you on social media, tell us the rundown as we
- 31:58Speaker 3: call it.
