- 0:00Speaker 1: I'm going to regret this.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Welcome to the NED party.
- 0:06Speaker 3: Hi, this is Nick and Astas, you story editor on
- 0:09Speaker 3: Star Wars, The Clone Wars and Star Wars bad Batch,
- 0:14Speaker 3: and you are listening to Aggressive Negotiations.
- 0:24Speaker 4: Here you are back with Aggressive Negotiations, and here we
- 0:27Speaker 4: are to bring you another episode of it. I am
- 0:30Speaker 4: one of your humble hosts, Jedi Master John Mills. With
- 0:34Speaker 4: me as always embarking on this beautiful journey is my
- 0:37Speaker 4: dear friend, Jedi Master Matthew Rushing.
- 0:40Speaker 1: Matt.
- 0:41Speaker 4: We are here to discuss a variety of topics. Tonight
- 0:45Speaker 4: there will be one in particular, but also a nice
- 0:47Speaker 4: little surprise for the fans. Are you buckled up as
- 0:50Speaker 4: your hyperspace acceleration chair?
- 0:52Speaker 2: All set, John, I'm so excited that people have chosen
- 0:56Speaker 2: to join us here on Aggressive Negotiations Variety hours, and
- 1:00Speaker 2: I am just one of the hosts, and I'm so
- 1:03Speaker 2: glad to be here. Of course, this is my variety,
- 1:06Speaker 2: our accent, and we're so glad that you have chosen
- 1:09Speaker 2: to join us.
- 1:11Speaker 4: I would have personally gone with something a little more
- 1:13Speaker 4: Bob Barker, but you do you. That's fine, that's fine.
- 1:16Speaker 4: I'm just I can only imagine what a Jedi in
- 1:21Speaker 4: disguise after Order sixty six doing game shows to win
- 1:26Speaker 4: the money.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Okay, that's a series. There you go.
- 1:30Speaker 4: Lucasfilm another pitch for.
- 1:33Speaker 2: Forst to like win money on like wheel of Fortune.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Yes, exactly right.
- 1:39Speaker 4: Every time he spends it lands on the five thousand
- 1:41Speaker 4: dollars thing, and it's like, ohh, I don't know, I'm
- 1:43Speaker 4: just really lucky tonight at all. Yeah, And like you know,
- 1:48Speaker 4: and then like he's all going to guess the letter
- 1:50Speaker 4: and then like he's reaching out with his mind to
- 1:52Speaker 4: pull it out of the producer's head and he's like,
- 1:54Speaker 4: give me three rs if you would. How did you
- 1:56Speaker 4: know it would be three just the lucky guess, Yeah,
- 1:59Speaker 4: something like that. You know it could be done, and
- 2:01Speaker 4: you know it would be a great sitcom, maybe a
- 2:03Speaker 4: one season, but a really funny one. And then of
- 2:06Speaker 4: course at the end, as he's discovered, Vader kills him
- 2:10Speaker 4: and takes the prizes and.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Uses that to build his castle. There you go.
- 2:14Speaker 4: Now we've gone into the drama. And speaking of drama,
- 2:17Speaker 4: it's dramatic for me, it's dramatic for Matt.
- 2:20Speaker 1: When we get.
- 2:22Speaker 4: New ratings and reviews on Apple Podcasts or whatever, podcat
- 2:26Speaker 4: or a choice that you have. Help other people find
- 2:29Speaker 4: the show, help us, help you, help us, help them
- 2:33Speaker 4: to find the show, and just give us a star
- 2:36Speaker 4: rating and review, please please, But we also have a
- 2:39Speaker 4: special thrill this week, Matt. We got feedback directly from
- 2:42Speaker 4: a listener. This listener is in the wilds of an
- 2:48Speaker 4: upstate that experiences weather changes that I don't, and he
- 2:54Speaker 4: goes by the code named Old Joe, and he listened
- 2:57Speaker 4: to our discussion recently about the World between Worlds and
- 3:02Speaker 4: that galaxy even farther away in Ahsoka season one. His question,
- 3:08Speaker 4: and he posed it to both of us, but I'll
- 3:10Speaker 4: pose it to you, was do you think it's possible
- 3:14Speaker 4: that the two galaxies were actually closer together than they
- 3:18Speaker 4: are now at some point in the past, and it's
- 3:22Speaker 4: not as distant past as we think, and that is
- 3:26Speaker 4: the origin of the Night Sisters and the Mortis gods,
- 3:31Speaker 4: and the World between Worlds was the way that they found,
- 3:34Speaker 4: or even the pergol were the way that they found
- 3:37Speaker 4: to get back to this other galaxy that they were
- 3:41Speaker 4: used to going to.
- 3:42Speaker 2: I mean, that's an interesting question because as you were
- 3:47Speaker 2: saying that, I was thinking to myself. We know that
- 3:50Speaker 2: the Clone Wars were actually going to touch the Yujon
- 3:52Speaker 2: Vong if they had continued, and those characters were always
- 3:58Speaker 2: ones that came from outside the universe we know, and
- 4:01Speaker 2: so that's a question that also made me wonder about
- 4:04Speaker 2: had they left that universe that we see in Ahsoka
- 4:08Speaker 2: and they didn't have light speed and they just were
- 4:12Speaker 2: traveling on these very slow ships relatively speaking, at like
- 4:18Speaker 2: these big world ships, you know, and so that's a
- 4:22Speaker 2: whole other question. But so yeah, I mean the idea
- 4:26Speaker 2: that you know, this is a long long time ago
- 4:29Speaker 2: in a galaxy far far away. We know that, you know,
- 4:32Speaker 2: the Star Wars universe, we're talking existence of thousands of years,
- 4:39Speaker 2: ten thousands of years. You know, it's been around for
- 4:42Speaker 2: a long period of time. And so the idea that
- 4:45Speaker 2: there could have been a universal drift from one universe
- 4:49Speaker 2: to the next, I think makes complete sense. And it
- 4:52Speaker 2: would have been really interesting in the sense that you
- 4:55Speaker 2: could have maybe gotten there because they were closer, much
- 4:58Speaker 2: easier previous, and then as the drift has happened, it
- 5:02Speaker 2: got more and more difficult, which is you know, one
- 5:05Speaker 2: of the reasons why the Death Mary Witches end up
- 5:09Speaker 2: there in the first place, and maybe they just got stranded,
- 5:12Speaker 2: you know, because they didn't maybe know about Pergol or
- 5:16Speaker 2: something like that. There's just all of these really incredible
- 5:18Speaker 2: stories that I think that could go into explaining all
- 5:23Speaker 2: of these different facets about these two universes and how
- 5:27Speaker 2: they are connected.
- 5:29Speaker 1: Yeah, I think.
- 5:30Speaker 4: And the thing is, as you're brainstorming there, I'm thinking
- 5:32Speaker 4: of different things where the Eugen Vong are from that
- 5:37Speaker 4: galaxy and they were on the way they're on the
- 5:39Speaker 4: way over here or over to the Skywalker galaxy, and
- 5:44Speaker 4: their ships to your idea of being worldships, their sleeperships.
- 5:49Speaker 4: They know it's going to take a long time, so
- 5:51Speaker 4: they go to sleep and so it's almost like that.
- 5:53Speaker 4: I think it's Joe Haldeman wrote the book The Forever War,
- 5:56Speaker 4: where by the time you get to where you're going,
- 5:58Speaker 4: the war's already over or the enemy has changed sort
- 6:02Speaker 4: of things. So that could even be a very interesting thing.
- 6:04Speaker 4: And it's the type of thing where it's like I
- 6:06Speaker 4: could see this sort of thing being pitched and developed
- 6:09Speaker 4: in a Lucasfilm story room. But that leads into sort
- 6:16Speaker 4: of the core question for this episode. As you know,
- 6:19Speaker 4: look twenty twenty five is starting to wind down. We
- 6:22Speaker 4: know we have a project that's coming out in twenty
- 6:24Speaker 4: twenty six. We know that there's one in twenty twenty seven.
- 6:26Speaker 4: Star Wars is coming back to theaters. We know that
- 6:29Speaker 4: we're going to get a fiftieth anniversary re release in Imax.
- 6:32Speaker 4: No less, I mean that movie is gonna make money
- 6:35Speaker 4: handover fist especially. Some of the other rumors are true,
- 6:38Speaker 4: but we'll leave that to the side. And we have
- 6:41Speaker 4: AHSOCA season two, so it seems like there are some
- 6:44Speaker 4: things that are in development. And we got mal shadow
- 6:48Speaker 4: Lord on the way too.
- 6:49Speaker 2: And that is the Starfighter, which they're filming right now,
- 6:52Speaker 2: so they're actually filming it, you know.
- 6:55Speaker 4: But that's the thing is, like we have all of
- 6:57Speaker 4: these great, neat, innovative, mind expansive projects that are coming
- 7:03Speaker 4: out there, but everybody still has this perception of Star
- 7:08Speaker 4: Wars as a franchise struggling right now, Look, let's just
- 7:13Speaker 4: embrace why. It's because of this story that broke about
- 7:15Speaker 4: the hunt for Ben Solo. So basically, as we go
- 7:19Speaker 4: into twenty twenty six, is it possible that we're looking
- 7:23Speaker 4: at Lucasfilm taking another shot at redefining itself as at innovative,
- 7:31Speaker 4: story focused studio for its core franchise that it's known
- 7:35Speaker 4: for continuing to work against.
- 7:40Speaker 1: What I would call corporate structure.
- 7:42Speaker 4: That only sees things in terms of sequential storytelling, merchandising rights,
- 7:48Speaker 4: streaming capabilities and those sorts of things, the stuff that
- 7:50Speaker 4: sort of strips away the heart of what made us
- 7:54Speaker 4: fall in love with it.
- 7:55Speaker 2: I mean, this is just a really interesting question because
- 7:57Speaker 2: you know, as a recently just came out in the
- 8:01Speaker 2: theaters was tron Ares And one of the things that
- 8:05Speaker 2: and the research I did to talk about that film
- 8:08Speaker 2: on the six or two Club was came across some
- 8:11Speaker 2: information that the reason that the Joseph Kazinski sequel to
- 8:15Speaker 2: that never happened that was supposed to happen that he
- 8:18Speaker 2: was working on, was because Disney had the returns for
- 8:23Speaker 2: tomorrow Land and decided, no, we're not doing another one
- 8:28Speaker 2: of these films because of what they got back for
- 8:32Speaker 2: tomorrow Land. And I think that ever since the debacle
- 8:43Speaker 2: that was Solow And when I say that, it's not
- 8:49Speaker 2: I'm not sliding.
- 8:50Speaker 1: We both love the film exactly. We both love the
- 8:52Speaker 1: film not about that.
- 8:53Speaker 2: This is about the botched behind the scenes travesty that
- 8:58Speaker 2: happened from beginning to end on that film. Uh and
- 9:02Speaker 2: continued of course with the you know, terrible promotion of
- 9:07Speaker 2: that film that the the just I mean everything about
- 9:11Speaker 2: how they handled that whole thing was awful. The fact
- 9:14Speaker 2: that that movie turns out to be fantastic is just
- 9:19Speaker 2: a you know, it's thank the first Howard. Yes, absolutely,
- 9:26Speaker 2: Apparently the Howards should just be making more Star Wars things,
- 9:29Speaker 2: you know, because Actions does just as good as Father.
- 9:33Speaker 1: And so.
- 9:35Speaker 2: What I'm what I'm trying to get at though.
- 9:37Speaker 3: Is.
- 9:40Speaker 2: There seems to be a culture of fear that's happening
- 9:47Speaker 2: in the Disney corporation. It's not even Lucasfilm itself, it's
- 9:54Speaker 2: the Disney corporate structure, right, and they seem to be
- 9:59Speaker 2: terrified at point to make anything that's not going to
- 10:03Speaker 2: make tons of money, right, And so the only thing
- 10:06Speaker 2: that they seem to care about these days is remaking terror,
- 10:10Speaker 2: remaking perfect animated features into less perfect other animated features,
- 10:19Speaker 2: because they feel like they can make bukoos of money
- 10:22Speaker 2: on that unless it's snow white and.
- 10:25Speaker 1: Well, so yeah, that's a whole story lot it self.
- 10:29Speaker 2: Right, But the point is is that we have gone
- 10:31Speaker 2: from being a studio that is trying to be inventive
- 10:35Speaker 2: in any way to be a studio that's driven by
- 10:38Speaker 2: fear of not making enough dollars back. And when you
- 10:42Speaker 2: when you're not willing to take any kind of creative risk,
- 10:47Speaker 2: or you're not just willing to realize, I don't have
- 10:51Speaker 2: to spend three hundred million dollars on every single movie.
- 10:55Speaker 2: If I have the right person behind the film and
- 10:58Speaker 2: they have one hundred million dollars, they could make an
- 11:02Speaker 2: incredible film and we could make back what we put
- 11:07Speaker 2: into it and more, you know. And so yeah, it
- 11:11Speaker 2: just feels like this will be weird. Analogy watching the
- 11:17Speaker 2: as if we're recording this. The Blue Jays and the
- 11:20Speaker 2: Dodgers are in the World Series, and the other night
- 11:23Speaker 2: the game went into the eighteenth inning, right, and it
- 11:27Speaker 2: didn't end before the end of the eighteenth inning when
- 11:30Speaker 2: we got to walk off home run from Freddie Freeman
- 11:33Speaker 2: for the Dodgers. Why does that happen? Because once you
- 11:37Speaker 2: get into the extra innings in a World Series game,
- 11:41Speaker 2: guys stop playing and swinging the way they had been
- 11:44Speaker 2: swinging the rest of the game. Now you're only swinging
- 11:47Speaker 2: for the fences, and that changes the game because you
- 11:51Speaker 2: just get a lot of pop ups. That's what's happening.
- 11:54Speaker 2: I think with Disney as a creative force, they're always
- 11:59Speaker 2: swinging for the fences in the sense, we're going to
- 12:01Speaker 2: spend five hundred million dollars making this movie, but now
- 12:05Speaker 2: we need to make a billion and a half dollars
- 12:07Speaker 2: for it to be successful, and you're you're just creating
- 12:11Speaker 2: your own monster that you can never overcome or be.
- 12:15Speaker 4: You know.
- 12:15Speaker 2: It's it's like the question, can God make a rock
- 12:18Speaker 2: so big that he can't pick it up? Well, Disney
- 12:20Speaker 2: has made a problem so big it can't fix it
- 12:24Speaker 2: with more money. And so I think that's really one
- 12:28Speaker 2: of the places that we might be coming down to
- 12:30Speaker 2: in the structure.
- 12:32Speaker 1: What do you think?
- 12:32Speaker 4: Okay, well, well I got a couple of things here.
- 12:35Speaker 4: One great analogy and I'll tackle ont of that. It's
- 12:38Speaker 4: because they're trying to win with one big swing, because
- 12:43Speaker 4: they're they're no longer playing to win, they're playing not
- 12:46Speaker 4: to lose. Oh, it's a totally different point to go,
- 12:49Speaker 4: totally different way to get yes. And I think with
- 12:52Speaker 4: this corporatism that you're talking about as well, with it
- 12:57Speaker 4: is the problem with the corporate strung ructure is that
- 13:02Speaker 4: Lucasfilm is now part of a larger hole like any
- 13:07Speaker 4: other big corporation or any other big studio. I'm not
- 13:12Speaker 4: curb stomping Disney in particular with this comment, Okay, I'm
- 13:16Speaker 4: coming at it from the perspective that the larger corporations,
- 13:22Speaker 4: no matter what, the people at the top upper management,
- 13:26Speaker 4: their paycheck clears, no matter what.
- 13:28Speaker 1: Right.
- 13:30Speaker 4: Whereas when Lucasfilm was its own independent studio, Lucas was
- 13:35Speaker 4: literally running it, I mean almost, it was almost just
- 13:38Speaker 4: like a nonprofit corporation, yeah, because everything that was made
- 13:41Speaker 4: was sunk back into the company to make it larger,
- 13:44Speaker 4: to make it grow, to make it more stable. And
- 13:49Speaker 4: I think that what we're witnessing as Star Wars fans,
- 13:52Speaker 4: because we have such a vested interest in it emotionally,
- 13:58Speaker 4: is it's something that's happening everywhere, but we're only seeing
- 14:04Speaker 4: it here because we're only looking here, right, And every
- 14:10Speaker 4: company that gets larger, all that they can look at
- 14:13Speaker 4: is that bottom line, that that ruthless look at it.
- 14:19Speaker 4: I mean, as we have this discussion, there are headlines
- 14:21Speaker 4: breaking because you know, Company a's profits are down by
- 14:27Speaker 4: one percent. They're gonna acts tens of thousands of people,
- 14:32Speaker 4: and it's like, well, wait, who actually made the bad
- 14:35Speaker 4: decisions to cost this? Get rid of those jabbronis like that.
- 14:40Speaker 4: That's that's the whole thing. That's the thing that I think.
- 14:42Speaker 4: And I think that's the movie studios in general now,
- 14:46Speaker 4: because they're not studios anymore. They're corporations. They're not actually
- 14:52Speaker 4: movie studios anymore. Disney's not a movie studio anymore. They're
- 14:55Speaker 4: not Disney was there's a multi corporation. Yeah, right exactly.
- 15:02Speaker 4: And so you can have I think the disheartening thing
- 15:05Speaker 4: right now, I'll throw this to you right is you
- 15:10Speaker 4: have the Hunt for Ben Solo come up. It gets greenlit.
- 15:16Speaker 4: It crosses every hurdle that we've been told is necessary
- 15:20Speaker 4: to cross. The head of story is okay. The head
- 15:22Speaker 4: of story is more than okay with it. There's a
- 15:24Speaker 4: final script that's been done. They're ready to order people.
- 15:27Speaker 4: They have one of the most esteemed directors in Hollywood
- 15:30Speaker 4: history attached to it. They have a huge star whose
- 15:33Speaker 4: name draws people in even non star wars. Fans love
- 15:36Speaker 4: the dude. Yep, and the head of Lucasfilm is like yep,
- 15:40Speaker 4: this is it. Look at all of this stuff, we did,
- 15:41Speaker 4: all of the work, We're ready to go, and then
- 15:45Speaker 4: it's that mystical. It's like the final boss in a
- 15:50Speaker 4: video game suddenly shows up and you're like, well, no, no, no, no,
- 15:52Speaker 4: no no, I'm hitting ab at the same time, what's
- 15:54Speaker 4: going on? And it's like you're doing everything right, but
- 15:56Speaker 4: you still lose the game? Like how can fans not
- 16:00Speaker 4: look at that and be like, man, what a bunch
- 16:01Speaker 4: of bult Like how can that not take the wind
- 16:05Speaker 4: out of your sales to see that happen?
- 16:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I find this to be really interesting
- 16:14Speaker 2: to me. And the most fascinating part about this is
- 16:20Speaker 2: is that the whole aspect of and I think, look,
- 16:29Speaker 2: I don't want to throw you know, tons of shade, right,
- 16:33Speaker 2: but I think that this really kind of comes down
- 16:35Speaker 2: to the fact that it's very clear what happened with
- 16:40Speaker 2: the sequel trilogy and why I think they have struggled
- 16:43Speaker 2: so mightily on how to follow it up is because
- 16:48Speaker 2: of the disjointed nature of the storytelling from start to
- 16:53Speaker 2: finish in the series. And you know, so this isn't
- 16:57Speaker 2: about whether or not you liked certain aspects of it
- 17:02Speaker 2: or if you liked The Last Jedi or not, or
- 17:04Speaker 2: if you liked The Force Awakens or not. I mean,
- 17:07Speaker 2: this isn't about that. But I don't think anybody in
- 17:11Speaker 2: their right mind thinks to themselves, man, that was just
- 17:15Speaker 2: one internally consistent trilogy. I mean, there's just nothing about
- 17:19Speaker 2: that trilogy that I have a problem with or make
- 17:22Speaker 2: doesn't not make sense, you know. And so I think
- 17:25Speaker 2: one of the issues that we run into with it
- 17:28Speaker 2: is that we're at a place where it is they
- 17:33Speaker 2: don't know how to follow it up and where to
- 17:36Speaker 2: follow it up, because there wasn't kind of like a
- 17:40Speaker 2: clear vision in the series itself as to where it
- 17:44Speaker 2: was going.
- 17:45Speaker 4: I think I think it's a yes, no, I'll go
- 17:47Speaker 4: all the way back to your your baseball analogy, right
- 17:50Speaker 4: and the playing not to lose sort of thing. I
- 17:53Speaker 4: honestly think, because I'm reconstructing it in my brain, the
- 17:57Speaker 4: turn against Marvel hadn't happened yet, and I think that
- 18:02Speaker 4: the sting of what happened with the way Solo suffered
- 18:09Speaker 4: for the way fans really felt about The Last Jedi,
- 18:13Speaker 4: you know, and the general public in general felt about it.
- 18:17Speaker 4: Let's be honest, guys, I think that it's almost like
- 18:23Speaker 4: an emotional damage thing where the same people are at
- 18:28Speaker 4: the head of Disney by and large, and they've never
- 18:32Speaker 4: understood how to process it. They don't know what went
- 18:36Speaker 4: wrong because they don't understand. They literally look at it
- 18:41Speaker 4: as product. It's like when you know, you know, it's
- 18:45Speaker 4: basically like suddenly people don't like Oreos anymore, and the
- 18:48Speaker 4: people making Oreos are like, well, wait, no, it's still Oreos.
- 18:52Speaker 1: We're still selling Oreos.
- 18:53Speaker 4: But what they don't realize is they changed some minor
- 18:56Speaker 4: ingredient in the double stuff or something like the cream
- 19:01Speaker 4: in the center, and people tasted it and they were like,
- 19:04Speaker 4: Oreos don't taste the same anymore.
- 19:06Speaker 1: You know, they're fine, but I don't like them as much.
- 19:09Speaker 4: But to the people up at the top of the chain,
- 19:11Speaker 4: they're like, but it's still Oreos. It tastes the same
- 19:14Speaker 4: to me, And it's like, ah, does that make sense
- 19:18Speaker 4: to you? Like, and I think Marvel's going through the
- 19:21Speaker 4: same thing. They don't understand what went wrong. They're almost
- 19:25Speaker 4: like they're incapable of understanding what misfired, and so it's
- 19:30Speaker 4: making them afraid to do anything bold or continue to
- 19:35Speaker 4: take risks.
- 19:36Speaker 2: Yeah, no, I think that's really an astute observation as
- 19:40Speaker 2: to what the problem is. And I think it is
- 19:44Speaker 2: crazy to me that you had a script that Dave
- 19:52Speaker 2: Filoni liked, Kathleen Kennedy liked, everybody seemed to be on
- 19:57Speaker 2: board with. And then it was Iiger who says no.
- 20:06Speaker 2: And why he said no? We don't even have a
- 20:09Speaker 2: clue as to why he would say no to this,
- 20:12Speaker 2: And but it.
- 20:15Speaker 1: Was you right, no?
- 20:18Speaker 4: What wasn't one of the I swear I read an
- 20:20Speaker 4: article where the reasoning given was that the feedback was, well,
- 20:25Speaker 4: he's dead, how could this happen? Like they couldn't understand
- 20:28Speaker 4: how you could tell a story about him, which I
- 20:33Speaker 4: think even shows that they struggled even with the idea
- 20:36Speaker 4: of I wonder if they even understood that Rogue one
- 20:40Speaker 4: and Solo were.
- 20:41Speaker 1: Prequels like I do.
- 20:44Speaker 4: I think is it possible that they just didn't understand
- 20:47Speaker 4: the idea of nonsequential storytelling. It's almost like, well, look,
- 20:54Speaker 4: we can't fix it. Obviously, you and me, nobody listening
- 20:59Speaker 4: can fix it. And it's it's one of those things, though,
- 21:03Speaker 4: where I want to look at twenty twenty six with
- 21:06Speaker 4: hopeful eyes. I want to say, there's hope on the
- 21:09Speaker 4: horizon that the seas will calm and things will hit
- 21:15Speaker 4: a regular cadence. The simple fact that we know for
- 21:18Speaker 4: certain two more movies are coming out in the next
- 21:21Speaker 4: two years, and we're going to get a season of
- 21:24Speaker 4: a show, and Mal's Shadow Lord the one that I'm
- 21:27Speaker 4: most excited for of all four of them, in God's
- 21:31Speaker 4: honest truth, that's the one I am the most excited for.
- 21:35Speaker 4: We have four solid projects we know that are cued up.
- 21:39Speaker 4: My question to you is going to twenty twenty six,
- 21:42Speaker 4: all of these projects, you throw them at me, I'm hopeful.
- 21:44Speaker 4: I'm like, Okay, these all actually sound pretty solid. I'm
- 21:48Speaker 4: actually kind of digging what they're Yeah, they're putting out there.
- 21:53Speaker 4: Why how do we remove the mental hurdle for ourselves
- 21:58Speaker 4: as fans to go into twenty twenty six clean, to
- 22:01Speaker 4: drop the baggage and say, you know what, I can't
- 22:04Speaker 4: hold on to that. Let's move forward, just the same
- 22:07Speaker 4: way that George Lucas was trying to teach us with
- 22:10Speaker 4: his six films.
- 22:12Speaker 2: Look, I think one of the ways that we do
- 22:15Speaker 2: that is maybe we should be thankful that at least
- 22:20Speaker 2: one of the lessons that we learned, uh, and they
- 22:25Speaker 2: seem to have learned at Lucasfilm with Star Wars, stop
- 22:29Speaker 2: making things so quickly that you can't actually think about anything. Yes,
- 22:34Speaker 2: stop making things so quickly that we we don't have
- 22:37Speaker 2: an opportunity to sit back and make sure do we
- 22:40Speaker 2: really need to make this?
- 22:43Speaker 1: Does this?
- 22:44Speaker 2: Is this important to the saga? Does it add anything
- 22:47Speaker 2: to the storyline? Does it?
- 22:49Speaker 1: Does it?
- 22:49Speaker 2: Does it really give us what we're looking for with
- 22:54Speaker 2: Star Wars to make it special?
- 22:57Speaker 1: Right?
- 22:59Speaker 2: And so in that, I think if we're going to
- 23:02Speaker 2: talk about what we should be thankful for, in what
- 23:07Speaker 2: we should be grateful for, which we've got a big
- 23:09Speaker 2: episode coming up soon called Thanks Gungan.
- 23:11Speaker 1: When we'll talk a lot about race.
- 23:14Speaker 2: I love that annual tradition. But I think you're right
- 23:17Speaker 2: and absolutely talking about this idea. We should be grateful,
- 23:24Speaker 2: We should be looking forward to what's coming out. We
- 23:26Speaker 2: should be hopeful because that none of these things have
- 23:29Speaker 2: been rushed. Mal's Shadow Lord not rushed. U Soka season
- 23:34Speaker 2: two not rushed. In fact, we've we've if you've read
- 23:37Speaker 2: articles about it, they have put so much time and
- 23:40Speaker 2: effort into that series. They they've been worked, they worked
- 23:43Speaker 2: on the cinematography to make it even more epic. You know,
- 23:46Speaker 2: they're filming over in England, which you know, we know
- 23:48Speaker 2: how that turned out for and or in Rogue one.
- 23:53Speaker 2: You know, uh Grogu and Mando, they have had a
- 23:58Speaker 2: long time to work on the effects, right, They haven't
- 24:03Speaker 2: been rushing that. So much of this stuff that we
- 24:07Speaker 2: complained about with things in Star Wars was because things
- 24:13Speaker 2: were rushed, because we felt we had this inclination that
- 24:19Speaker 2: we just had to get things out there and we
- 24:22Speaker 2: had to do it now because we had to strike
- 24:24Speaker 2: while the iron is hot, instead of making sure that
- 24:29Speaker 2: the things that we were actually giving folks was what
- 24:34Speaker 2: they didn't know they always wanted but and also always
- 24:38Speaker 2: needed in Star Wars, right, And so I think that's
- 24:41Speaker 2: the type of thing that again, I really appreciate you
- 24:45Speaker 2: saying that, Yeah, we should be hopeful coming forward because
- 24:49Speaker 2: there are some lessons I think that they had to
- 24:52Speaker 2: learn the hard way and those aren't being repeated right now,
- 24:56Speaker 2: and that's great.
- 24:57Speaker 4: And so I think maybe just made we're looking forward
- 25:01Speaker 4: to twenty twenty six being a new hope for Star Wars.
- 25:06Speaker 1: I did it. I did it, guys, I got us there.
- 25:10Speaker 4: I made the reference that we were all thinking in
- 25:13Speaker 4: our heads, but what the rest of us are thinking
- 25:16Speaker 4: in our heads? Matt, to follow up on a point
- 25:17Speaker 4: that you were saying, was the only rushing we want
- 25:20Speaker 4: to hear about is Matt rushing? So where can people
- 25:22Speaker 4: find you online?
- 25:24Speaker 2: Well, I appreciate you saying that, but nobody thought that.
- 25:26Speaker 2: But anyway, you can find me all over social media
- 25:29Speaker 2: under the name Matt Raschint zero two. Of course, I'm
- 25:31Speaker 2: here on the network with outpost a whole podcast about
- 25:36Speaker 2: every single chapter of the Harry Potter series, one chapter
- 25:39Speaker 2: at a time. You can also find me on the
- 25:42Speaker 2: TFM network with a bunch of shows ones called the
- 25:44Speaker 2: six oh two Club, where we're talking about all of
- 25:46Speaker 2: the franchises that we love outside of Star Trek. And
- 25:50Speaker 2: there's a lot of great Star Trek talk over there,
- 25:52Speaker 2: So check all of those out. But John, you know,
- 25:56Speaker 2: if people wanted to see what you're doing for Spooky Season,
- 25:59Speaker 2: because I know, oh, you're such a huge fan of
- 26:01Speaker 2: Spooky Season, where can people find you?
- 26:04Speaker 4: Well, so far as I'm concerned, Spooky Season goes just
- 26:07Speaker 4: about up to Thanksgiving, because gosh darn it, if you
- 26:10Speaker 4: can start selling Christmas stuff, before Halloween. I can celebrate
- 26:15Speaker 4: Halloween all the way up until Wednesday before Thanksgiving. And
- 26:18Speaker 4: that's how I do it in my house, young man.
- 26:21Speaker 4: And you can find me online as Kessel Junkie kss
- 26:24Speaker 4: E l j u n Kie. I have a lot
- 26:26Speaker 4: of fun over on Letterbox because gosh, I can only
- 26:29Speaker 4: talk about movies. There can't possibly get myself in trouble.
- 26:33Speaker 4: That's pretty cool. And of course you can find me
- 26:35Speaker 4: here on the network co hosting a show regularly called
- 26:38Speaker 4: house Lights with Darren Moser and Tristan Radel, where we
- 26:41Speaker 4: look at the work of directors and we are finally, finally,
- 26:44Speaker 4: as of the recording of this talking about one of
- 26:47Speaker 4: my favorite directors, Catherine Bigelow, and I'm so overjoyed about
- 26:51Speaker 4: it because that is a director that I've been wanting
- 26:55Speaker 4: to talk about her work since probably the inception of
- 26:59Speaker 4: that show that's been going on for a long time.
- 27:02Speaker 4: So and honestly, Hey, since we're pitching so many ideas
- 27:05Speaker 4: out here to Lucasfilm lately, Hey, Lucasfilm, bring in Catherine
- 27:09Speaker 4: Bigelow to direct a Star Wars feature.
- 27:11Speaker 1: I'd be so overjoyed if you did. It would be
- 27:14Speaker 1: the best in the world.
- 27:15Speaker 4: But speaking of the best in the world, I have
- 27:18Speaker 4: the best wheel of cheese looking chairs back at my
- 27:21Speaker 4: room at the Jedi Temple. So let's go take a
- 27:24Speaker 4: load off Master Rushing, and I think it's time to
- 27:26Speaker 4: close these negotiations, John, negotiations are clothes.
- 27:35Speaker 2: Join the Revolution, Join the Nerd Party.
