- 0:00Speaker 1: I'm a kid coming from the project, just been offered
- 0:02Speaker 1: a million dollars. And I'm like, nah, I'm good. Okay.
- 0:05Speaker 1: But how much am I worth? So no deal is
- 0:07Speaker 1: that big that you can't turn down.
- 0:09Speaker 2: Was there any problem with you and Cash Money?
- 0:11Speaker 1: We always stayed out each other way. Y'all coexist over here.
- 0:14Speaker 1: We coexist over there. So when you talk about Snoop, right?
- 0:17Speaker 1: I could have took half of everything Snoop had. I'm like, no, man,
- 0:20Speaker 1: I want what's mine. When our deal was over with,
- 0:23Speaker 1: Snoop went on and turned into a boss. And I
- 0:26Speaker 1: appreciate that. I don't count other people's pockets. And that's
- 0:29Speaker 1: why I got into business and diversifying my portfolio. You
- 0:32Speaker 1: was never afraid to put out a lot of product.
- 0:34Speaker 1: What was your thought process? I have a distribution deal.
- 0:37Speaker 1: I don't have a record deal. Well, I get 85%
- 0:38Speaker 1: and a record company get 15%. So when I put
- 0:42Speaker 1: out those 24 records in one year, 23 of them
- 0:45Speaker 1: went gold and platinum. And I only could do that
- 0:47Speaker 1: because I controlled the project.
- 0:50Speaker 3: That same mentality goes into the products.
- 0:52Speaker 1: If you got the marketing money to put this in
- 0:55Speaker 1: the main eye level on every shelf, then this turns
- 0:58Speaker 1: into a billion-dollar company. What about taking this public to
- 1:01Speaker 1: where ordinary people could invest $ 100, 000, $ 200, 000, and then we
- 1:04Speaker 1: could all make money together?
- 1:07Speaker 3: 30 years in now, what does success look like?
- 1:09Speaker 1: Confidence and energy. This company here, No Limit 69, this
- 1:13Speaker 1: is a sexual wellness, health wellness.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Is it just the rush that you get when you're
- 1:17Speaker 2: selling something?
- 1:17Speaker 1: I told you, I found a problem. It's so many
- 1:20Speaker 1: men and women that need this. I'm telling y'all, marketing
- 1:23Speaker 1: is the key.
- 1:23Speaker 2: All right, guys, welcome back.
- 1:27Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:27Speaker 4: We got a special episode. We don't even need to...
- 1:31Speaker 4: Really tell the audience who the guest is.
- 1:34Speaker 2: Everybody already knows.
- 1:34Speaker 3: Pretty obvious, right?
- 1:35Speaker 4: Yeah, legend in the game, icon in our culture, master. Pete,
- 1:38Speaker 4: it's actually our third time having a conversation. We met
- 1:41Speaker 4: in Miami, we did, and then Revolt Summit. So great
- 1:45Speaker 4: conversations every time and really appreciate you taking the time
- 1:48Speaker 4: out of your schedule to sit with us.
- 1:50Speaker 1: Yes, sir. We got to move the culture forward. That's
- 1:53Speaker 1: what it's about. And our people don't realize that we
- 1:56Speaker 1: don't own nothing, then we ain't nothing. And And it's like,
- 2:01Speaker 1: you know, people be thinking like, oh, P, well, you
- 2:04Speaker 1: say that because you're successful. No, man, I wasn't always
- 2:07Speaker 1: where I'm at. And I tell people all the time,
- 2:10Speaker 1: it's like, you know what, how bad you want it?
- 2:13Speaker 1: Because you're looking at me thinking that my life is
- 2:15Speaker 1: so easy, but you ain't look at the beginning. You
- 2:19Speaker 1: ain't look at the struggle. You're just looking at, oh,
- 2:21Speaker 1: look at P now. And I'm like, man, y'all really tripping.
- 2:25Speaker 1: You know, this generation really had to understand that if
- 2:28Speaker 1: you want something, you got to go out there and
- 2:29Speaker 1: get it. And you got to, for me, I don't
- 2:33Speaker 1: know about everybody else, but for me, I let God
- 2:36Speaker 1: lead me on the journey. And I put God first.
- 2:39Speaker 1: And I know that's why everything that I'm doing is
- 2:41Speaker 1: more fruitful now. And that's why I'm still here, because
- 2:44Speaker 1: I know it's bigger than me.
- 2:46Speaker 5: Yeah, I think the part of the music, obviously, is
- 2:50Speaker 5: part of the story, the entrepreneurship, the business. But at
- 2:54Speaker 5: this point, we're talking about almost 30 years. You're still
- 2:57Speaker 5: Master P. We're still looking at you like, that's P.
- 3:00Speaker 3: Look at all he's done.
- 3:01Speaker 5: When you look at the aura that you have now,
- 3:05Speaker 5: how do you feel? 30 years in this business and
- 3:08Speaker 5: still killing it.
- 3:09Speaker 1: I feel blessed, man. I know that God has a
- 3:13Speaker 1: bigger plan for me. And so I'm happy because I'm like, man,
- 3:19Speaker 1: that was me 30 years ago. And I look at
- 3:21Speaker 1: myself now and be like, And I come from the
- 3:24Speaker 1: Kelly O Projects to be around the people that I
- 3:29Speaker 1: love and being able to shed a spotlight with the
- 3:34Speaker 1: people that I love in my family, man. Like, I
- 3:37Speaker 1: know that I broke a lot of generational curses. And,
- 3:41Speaker 1: you know, when I go and look at it, I
- 3:43Speaker 1: can't wait to tell my story. The Master P Only
- 3:47Speaker 1: God Could Judge Me movie. I know that it's going
- 3:50Speaker 1: to be different because when people see this, they thinking, oh,
- 3:52Speaker 1: we're just going to be a shoot them up movie. Nah, man,
- 3:55Speaker 1: this is going to be a fake based street movie.
- 3:59Speaker 1: This is history.
- 4:00Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:01Speaker 1: So because I don't want to sugarcoat. And I know
- 4:03Speaker 1: when people go to church, they say, oh, well, no,
- 4:06Speaker 1: but God took murderers and prostitutes to heaven. You got
- 4:11Speaker 1: to ask for forgiveness. And when I start understanding that,
- 4:13Speaker 1: I'm like, man. I'm on my way. You know what
- 4:18Speaker 1: I'm saying? I'm on my way because this is all
- 4:20Speaker 1: about building God, kingdom, and serving, being a servant. And
- 4:25Speaker 1: so when I understood that, I'm like, yeah, man, if
- 4:28Speaker 1: you do the right thing, you ask God for forgiveness,
- 4:31Speaker 1: then you could go to a higher place. And so
- 4:34Speaker 1: that's the journey I'm on, feeding my people, giving them
- 4:37Speaker 1: the education, giving them the knowledge, letting them know I'm
- 4:39Speaker 1: not perfect. I never was perfect, you know, but I'm
- 4:42Speaker 1: a work in progress. And that's what this is about,
- 4:44Speaker 1: being a work in progress. And I think that's where
- 4:47Speaker 1: we come at to this journey. Where we at now,
- 4:50Speaker 1: because a lot of people didn't think, oh, no limit
- 4:52Speaker 1: in cash money.
- 4:54Speaker 2: Well, that's what I want to get at.
- 4:57Speaker 3: The sound of that.
- 4:58Speaker 4: Collaboration has always been a major theme for you, right?
- 5:02Speaker 4: Always working with Snoop Dogg. No limit how it was
- 5:05Speaker 4: built with family. Cash money, right? So no limit cash money.
- 5:11Speaker 4: Those are the two titans in New Orleans. And last
- 5:14Speaker 4: year was a historical moment where Earlier this year was
- 5:17Speaker 4: a historical moment with the Versus.
- 5:18Speaker 1: Yes.
- 5:19Speaker 2: And now you're going on tour together.
- 5:21Speaker 3: Come on. Come on now. Where I'm at.
- 5:24Speaker 1: Right here.
- 5:25Speaker 3: You're going to get to witness history. No limit. Cash money.
- 5:28Speaker 3: The tour. Got the dates at the bottom. We're going
- 5:30Speaker 3: to talk about the dates in a second.
- 5:32Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:32Speaker 3: As you know. Some people up here, we got something
- 5:34Speaker 3: to say.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Come on, man.
- 5:36Speaker 2: So how did... Was there any problem with you and
- 5:40Speaker 2: Cash Money?
- 5:41Speaker 1: Nah, I mean, to be honest with you, as you
- 5:43Speaker 1: grow up and you get older and you realize like, man,
- 5:48Speaker 1: it's a lot of people that just don't get you.
- 5:51Speaker 1: But we've always been about business. So, you know, I
- 5:55Speaker 1: think that's what made this work. And we always stayed
- 5:58Speaker 1: out each other way. Like, it's like, you know what, man?
- 6:01Speaker 1: Y'all coexist over here. We coexist over there, even though
- 6:04Speaker 1: we're like right in the same community. And to be
- 6:08Speaker 1: honest with you, I respect them for what they've done.
- 6:11Speaker 1: as black people coming from the community where I grew
- 6:15Speaker 1: up at too, man, I want to see them win.
- 6:17Speaker 1: And so at the same time, but you know, we
- 6:19Speaker 1: all competitive and we all did our thing the way
- 6:23Speaker 1: we did. And I thank God that, you know, where
- 6:25Speaker 1: we at in life. Now we can show this generation
- 6:28Speaker 1: that this is bigger than us. This tour is about
- 6:31Speaker 1: mental health. And a lot of people, a lot of
- 6:34Speaker 1: us have been dealing with that for years and not
- 6:36Speaker 1: knowing it. So when we get out here and get
- 6:38Speaker 1: on this tour, we're like, you know what? We're going
- 6:40Speaker 1: to be able to bring awareness to mental health. We're
- 6:43Speaker 1: going to be able to show the next generation that
- 6:46Speaker 1: stop all this beef and let's get out here and
- 6:48Speaker 1: get this money. And let's just go have an amazing tour.
- 6:51Speaker 1: So this is about to be history. Like you said,
- 6:53Speaker 1: witness history. And, man, they're just going to show you
- 6:59Speaker 1: everything happens in time. So that's what I feel about this.
- 7:04Speaker 1: It took time, man. It took time.
- 7:06Speaker 3: Did the Versus spark the idea for the tour?
- 7:09Speaker 5: Or were you at the point where both companies came
- 7:13Speaker 5: together and said, we need to do something together.
- 7:15Speaker 3: This would be big for the city.
- 7:16Speaker 1: Yeah, I think both companies came together, but it was
- 7:20Speaker 1: a lot of people wanting to do this tour. But
- 7:23Speaker 1: what's so important about this tour for me, right? Being
- 7:26Speaker 1: able to do this with black promoters.
- 7:29Speaker 3: Mm-hmm.
- 7:30Speaker 1: Tour promoters, which is, this is incredible. Like, I'm like,
- 7:34Speaker 1: you know what? Instead of us doing all these different
- 7:37Speaker 1: tours for these other people and stuff, you know, let's
- 7:40Speaker 1: do this tour for this man. You know, that is
- 7:45Speaker 1: successful and put this together.
- 7:48Speaker 2: Who's the tour promoter?
- 7:50Speaker 1: It's right on there.
- 7:51Speaker 2: Okay.
- 7:52Speaker 1: You see that?
- 7:54Speaker 3: What we got? B.
- 7:56Speaker 3: BM Entertainment.
- 7:58Speaker 1: BM Entertainment. And that's incredible. That's a black owned tour company.
- 8:04Speaker 1: Do they approach you or you approach them? Yeah, no,
- 8:06Speaker 1: they approach me. They approach everybody. So what's your relationship
- 8:10Speaker 1: like with Birdman? Like, how does that conversation come with you?
- 8:13Speaker 1: Do you and Birdman sit down and work out the logistics,
- 8:15Speaker 1: work out the deal? Bro, like, let me tell you something.
- 8:18Speaker 1: I have no ego. It's not working. You know what?
- 8:22Speaker 1: Whatever you work out with the promoter, that's your business.
- 8:24Speaker 1: Whatever I work out with the promoter, that's my business.
- 8:27Speaker 1: That's how I am. I just, what I want, if
- 8:30Speaker 1: I get it, I'm cool.
- 8:31Speaker 2: So you get what you want.
- 8:32Speaker 1: I don't worry about what somebody else is doing. That's
- 8:35Speaker 1: been me my whole life. I think that's why I'm
- 8:37Speaker 1: able to be successful. So when you talk about Snoop, right? Like,
- 8:40Speaker 1: I could have. took half of everything Snoop had. I'm like, no, man,
- 8:45Speaker 1: I want what's mine. When our deal was over with,
- 8:49Speaker 1: Snoop went on and turned into a boss. And I
- 8:52Speaker 1: appreciate that. Think about it. I don't count other people's pockets. Like,
- 8:56Speaker 1: I don't do that. And I think a lot of
- 8:58Speaker 1: these artists do that. They get caught up into, oh,
- 9:01Speaker 1: what you got? Nah, that ain't me, though.
- 9:03Speaker 2: When you say you could have took half, like when
- 9:04Speaker 2: he was coming over from Death Row?
- 9:05Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, even after, if I wanted to. Because
- 9:10Speaker 1: of the investment that I made into it. The thing
- 9:13Speaker 1: about it, a lot of companies don't do that. Like
- 9:15Speaker 1: every artist I had, I never, if they wanted to leave,
- 9:19Speaker 1: told a contractor, go ahead. Think about it. You don't
- 9:23Speaker 1: hear that, right? It's like most artists, people like, man,
- 9:26Speaker 1: I put you on, I blew you up. So I
- 9:29Speaker 1: could hold you for however long I want because I
- 9:32Speaker 1: should take that journey with you. No, not me. I've
- 9:35Speaker 1: always thought that I'm a pack fair guy. But that's
- 9:39Speaker 1: on the artists if they don't save their money. Because
- 9:41Speaker 1: you think as music industry, you think that you're going
- 9:44Speaker 1: to be hot forever. You're not. And that's why I
- 9:48Speaker 1: got into business and diversifying my portfolio.
- 9:52Speaker 4: You brought up a good point. A lot of artists,
- 9:56Speaker 4: they beef with their label. They say the label is
- 9:58Speaker 4: ripping them off. They're not getting paid. I never heard
- 10:00Speaker 4: that from any of your artists. Do you think that
- 10:04Speaker 4: as a music executive, as a record label CEO, do
- 10:07Speaker 4: you think that the artists are to blame for blaming
- 10:10Speaker 4: their label when that happens? Or do you think the
- 10:12Speaker 4: label is to blame for taking advantage of the artists?
- 10:14Speaker 1: I think it's a lack of information. So you have
- 10:19Speaker 1: to educate yourself what the contracts you sign and you
- 10:23Speaker 1: can be mad about. But what I what I don't
- 10:25Speaker 1: see a lot of the white CEOs of these companies
- 10:30Speaker 1: that artists are fussing with. I don't see that. But
- 10:32Speaker 1: I see a lot of black CEOs that the artists
- 10:35Speaker 1: are fussing with because. they end up being friends and
- 10:38Speaker 1: they hanging out, you know, with the artists. So now
- 10:41Speaker 1: you think you're at the table, you eating together, but
- 10:43Speaker 1: it's a different, that guy actually, me and Boz, so
- 10:46Speaker 1: you see, I got on my shirt, my day one,
- 10:48Speaker 1: me and Big Boz, like we, we, we've been doing
- 10:51Speaker 1: this for 30 years. And that's what this shirt said
- 10:54Speaker 1: day one. This real No Limit Soldiers right here.
- 10:58Speaker 3: It take me back to when I was getting the
- 11:00Speaker 3: Source magazine.
- 11:01Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 11:01Speaker 3: And those ads were in it.
- 11:02Speaker 1: I mean, about five of them. Yeah.
- 11:04Speaker 3: Y'all just took over the whole marketing department.
- 11:07Speaker 1: So think about this, right, with what you were saying.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Artists don't know what you go through to build this company,
- 11:14Speaker 1: this brand. Me and Boz was laughing about this. Boz said, man,
- 11:17Speaker 1: they don't know. We was on the block. We could
- 11:19Speaker 1: have lost our life anytime. Right. Y'all. But, you know,
- 11:22Speaker 1: once y'all get on, y'all think that this because of
- 11:25Speaker 1: y'all or you did this. Right. But it's not, man.
- 11:29Speaker 1: People don't know what it took to build something like this.
- 11:32Speaker 1: They don't know the adversity you had to go through.
- 11:35Speaker 1: And then the artists just have to know their business.
- 11:37Speaker 1: A lot of these artists don't know publishing. They don't
- 11:40Speaker 1: know these deals. They just sign these deals and then
- 11:43Speaker 1: they get upset. But they only get upset with the
- 11:45Speaker 1: people that they know or the people that look like
- 11:48Speaker 1: them because they can't communicate with them. These big companies,
- 11:52Speaker 1: you have no communication. So think about it. That's why
- 11:55Speaker 1: you never seen all this arguing with these guys. You
- 11:58Speaker 1: don't even know who the owner of these companies are.
- 12:01Speaker 1: And so they take it out on the people that's
- 12:04Speaker 1: close to them, but just get your business together. If
- 12:06Speaker 1: you get your business together, you ain't got to worry
- 12:08Speaker 1: about that.
- 12:08Speaker 3: Y'all look good, man.
- 12:09Speaker 5: When I was watching it, I'm glad that you said
- 12:12Speaker 5: you have no ego because that's what came through the
- 12:14Speaker 5: TV when I was watching it. It was like, he's
- 12:16Speaker 5: here to celebrate, have this reunion. Silk look incredible. Mia
- 12:21Speaker 5: did her thing. The whole limit looked great.
- 12:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 12:25Speaker 5: But you said this is about reunion. This is about collaboration.
- 12:27Speaker 5: It's also about mental health.
- 12:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 12:29Speaker 5: Talk about that side of it, because that's something that
- 12:32Speaker 5: most people wouldn't have respect from a label that, you know,
- 12:36Speaker 5: is bad about it.
- 12:36Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. And guess what? You do have to grow up.
- 12:40Speaker 1: And I want artists to know, like, you don't have
- 12:42Speaker 1: to be bad about it for the rest of your life.
- 12:45Speaker 1: I mean, I was born and raised in Providence. And
- 12:50Speaker 1: so I seen a lot. And so when I talk
- 12:53Speaker 1: about the mental health side, it's what we call it
- 12:55Speaker 1: mental strength. We see murders. We see young people go
- 13:00Speaker 1: to jail. We see young people get killed. We seen
- 13:04Speaker 1: a lot of poverty. So you don't get counseling or
- 13:08Speaker 1: nothing like that in the projects. So I'm like, man,
- 13:13Speaker 1: if I could reach back to my young self now
- 13:15Speaker 1: and say, everything you've been through, Have anybody ever talked
- 13:20Speaker 1: to you about it? No. So you are healing yourself.
- 13:24Speaker 1: And a lot of these people in the hood is self-medicating.
- 13:29Speaker 1: They're taking drugs. They're doing things to get behind this.
- 13:32Speaker 1: So I'm like, man, we have to figure something out
- 13:36Speaker 1: to let's not keep this a secret. Let's sit around.
- 13:39Speaker 1: Let's talk about this. Let's bring awareness to this. And
- 13:42Speaker 1: that's why we could do this with this tour. And
- 13:44Speaker 1: that's why it's so important that Cash Money and No
- 13:49Speaker 1: Limit is involved with this because the next generation could say,
- 13:53Speaker 1: these are the guys that started this, especially both gigantic
- 13:57Speaker 1: labels from New Orleans. And to be able to be
- 14:02Speaker 1: on this journey together, man, I think we're going to
- 14:05Speaker 1: change and save more lives because when people see us
- 14:08Speaker 1: on that stage in all these different cities, be like, man, yeah,
- 14:11Speaker 1: these guys made some of the toughest street music in
- 14:15Speaker 1: the world, but these guys grew up. So don't be
- 14:18Speaker 1: afraid to grow up. I'm telling youngsters out here right now,
- 14:20Speaker 1: don't be afraid to grow up. Don't be afraid to
- 14:22Speaker 1: get better. Don't be afraid to better yourself. And that's
- 14:25Speaker 1: what this tour is about for me. I think this
- 14:28Speaker 1: tour is going to go on and on overseas. And
- 14:32Speaker 1: so many people want to see us. Just like you
- 14:35Speaker 1: were saying, people in New York. I looked at the days.
- 14:38Speaker 1: I saw the first days in Texas. I said, okay,
- 14:40Speaker 1: they're going up to Detroit, but I don't really see
- 14:43Speaker 1: a New York show. I'm like, yo, I was there
- 14:47Speaker 1: in 96. I love New York, man. I used to
- 14:50Speaker 1: go to Dapper Dan and get my clothes.
- 14:52Speaker 3: Okay, you see what I'm saying?
- 14:53Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying? We started out with the
- 14:56Speaker 1: Gazelles and the Big Change. I mean, New York literally
- 15:01Speaker 1: made me on the East Coast because- Nobody knew my music,
- 15:06Speaker 1: but me coming, hanging out, going to the tunnel, doing
- 15:09Speaker 1: all this stuff. You know, I definitely brought a lot
- 15:12Speaker 1: of that swag back to the South and to the
- 15:15Speaker 1: West Coast. You know, being able to come out here,
- 15:17Speaker 1: I got my, I mean... I mean, I got some
- 15:21Speaker 1: of the nicest clothes out here, man. I don't think
- 15:24Speaker 1: Dapper Dan even know who I was. He was like, man,
- 15:26Speaker 1: this little dude just spending money with me. I'm like, yeah, man,
- 15:30Speaker 1: give me that. I want to put some Louis on
- 15:32Speaker 1: his sweatsuit. So it's in the movie. You're going to
- 15:35Speaker 1: see in the movie, you know, what New York did
- 15:38Speaker 1: for me and for me to be able to watch
- 15:41Speaker 1: in that tunnel and watch the vibe and watch hip hop.
- 15:45Speaker 1: I mean, I was able to go back home and
- 15:47Speaker 1: be like, man, them boys from New York, they turned up.
- 15:51Speaker 1: It was crazy back then, you know. And then the
- 15:55Speaker 1: way I talk, right? So the girls was on me
- 15:58Speaker 1: out here when I come out here. Like, I just
- 16:00Speaker 1: want you to talk to me. I'm like, yeah, shorty,
- 16:03Speaker 1: what's happening with you? So I felt like, man, I
- 16:08Speaker 1: got it going on. It's a movie in itself. Yeah, no, man.
- 16:12Speaker 1: And we definitely got to come to New York, man.
- 16:14Speaker 1: And we going, you know, at the time, a lot
- 16:16Speaker 1: of these venues, they wasn't available. So you got so
- 16:20Speaker 1: many tours going on. So I want my fans to know, man,
- 16:23Speaker 1: I love my fans. Even in Cali. Like, so think
- 16:25Speaker 1: about it. You know, me living in the Bay Area
- 16:28Speaker 1: in Richmond, California, that's where I really got my swag
- 16:30Speaker 1: from for as independent hustling the music. And so I
- 16:35Speaker 1: got to, you know, be able to go do a
- 16:38Speaker 1: gigantic show in the Bay Area in Los Angeles. So
- 16:42Speaker 1: I'm telling Snoop, you know, Snoop doing his movie right now.
- 16:45Speaker 1: But after he finished filming his movie, you know, I
- 16:49Speaker 1: could see us going to L.A. and doing something big,
- 16:54Speaker 1: taking over. Yeah.
- 16:57Speaker 5: Who from your side is going on the tour? Or
- 17:00Speaker 5: is it different people at each city?
- 17:03Speaker 3: Or is it like.
- 17:04Speaker 1: No, man, everybody from my side go to it. I
- 17:07Speaker 1: made sure that everybody go. And if you're a part
- 17:13Speaker 1: of this, you're a part of history. And, man, we
- 17:16Speaker 1: losing so many brothers and sisters. It's like, man, I
- 17:19Speaker 1: want my team out there. You know, for us, man, adversity,
- 17:24Speaker 1: differences or whatever, man, it's like ain't nothing more important
- 17:27Speaker 1: than what we did together. So we don't have that
- 17:32Speaker 1: kind of hate. in our heart for each other. We
- 17:34Speaker 1: might disagree sometimes, but it's like brotherly love, sisterly and
- 17:39Speaker 1: brotherly love. It's like for us, if you're going to
- 17:41Speaker 1: look at and you're going to see in a movie,
- 17:43Speaker 1: when we have a problem, go put the gloves on.
- 17:46Speaker 1: We put the gloves on and then it's all good.
- 17:51Speaker 1: Somebody might come out, you know, with a black eye
- 17:54Speaker 1: or whatever, but we like, man, that's my brother. We good.
- 17:58Speaker 1: After that, it's like, man, we ain't trying to kill
- 18:01Speaker 1: each other or hurt each other. We have disagreements. Man,
- 18:05Speaker 1: let's figure this out and let's move on. Because, man,
- 18:08Speaker 1: think about it. Even with me and my brothers, we
- 18:11Speaker 1: might get into it. Next hour, we get into it
- 18:13Speaker 1: with somebody else, we jumping them. They like, man, I
- 18:16Speaker 1: thought they was tripping. No, man, you thought wrong. So
- 18:20Speaker 1: my whole thing with this tour, get your camouflage on.
- 18:24Speaker 1: because it's going to be soldiers everywhere, all over these arenas.
- 18:29Speaker 1: I'm giving $ 1, 000 out to the best camo outfit every night.
- 18:33Speaker 1: So bring your camo.
- 18:35Speaker 3: The tank is back out.
- 18:37Speaker 1: The tank is out. We're going to port it like
- 18:39Speaker 1: it's 1999. We say it one more time for the streets.
- 18:43Speaker 1: So that's what this tour is about, being able to
- 18:46Speaker 1: go live that soldier life out. It's going to be
- 18:50Speaker 1: like a masquerade soldier porting. So, and, yeah.
- 18:56Speaker 4: Well, you know, talking about that, because you're running so legendary,
- 19:01Speaker 4: just from a business standpoint, because you're such a smart businessman,
- 19:04Speaker 4: when you saw the music business start to change, what
- 19:07Speaker 4: was your first thought? Because you come from the era
- 19:08Speaker 4: of selling CDs out your time. When you saw it
- 19:11Speaker 4: transition into what it is now, streaming, and, you know,
- 19:15Speaker 4: Steve Giles making the iPod, what was your initial thoughts?
- 19:20Speaker 1: I mean, you know what? You got to catch up.
- 19:23Speaker 1: And we be so far behind, man, that we worry about, like,
- 19:27Speaker 1: time is changing. Like, time is waiting for nobody. Like,
- 19:32Speaker 1: these guys are passing down money, generational money. Like, we're
- 19:35Speaker 1: trying to build generational wealth, and we're trying to bridge
- 19:39Speaker 1: the wealth gap, but they are passing this money down.
- 19:42Speaker 1: And we're not looking at it. I mean, I went
- 19:45Speaker 1: to a grocery store in Tulsa, Oklahoma, last week. A
- 19:49Speaker 1: guy aged Owens.
- 19:50Speaker 2: That's our guy.
- 19:51Speaker 1: Yeah, Oasis. That's our guy. Man, Oasis. Let me tell
- 19:54Speaker 1: you something. What I love about this, right? People are
- 19:58Speaker 1: not seeing this and not saying we should be standing
- 20:01Speaker 1: outside that store making sure people come in there. And
- 20:05Speaker 1: my thing is we're going to put that store on
- 20:07Speaker 1: the map because in Tulsa in 1920, people don't realize
- 20:11Speaker 1: what happened to our people.
- 20:12Speaker 2: Black Wall Street.
- 20:13Speaker 1: Black Wall Street. And so to be able to support that.
- 20:17Speaker 1: We support all these other stores. You know, a lot
- 20:20Speaker 1: of people say, man, well, don't say you own something
- 20:22Speaker 1: you don't know, man. You know, me and James always
- 20:24Speaker 1: been about, you know what? We're going to show the
- 20:26Speaker 1: people if they could do it, we could do it.
- 20:29Speaker 1: And to be able to support a brother like that.
- 20:32Speaker 1: And he has four stores now. I'm saying he could
- 20:34Speaker 1: have 10, 20 stores now. He could take that company public.
- 20:38Speaker 1: I mean, his stores are neat. They got fresh products
- 20:43Speaker 1: in there. He giving back to the community. And it's
- 20:47Speaker 1: in Tulsa where we got to go back and say,
- 20:49Speaker 1: let's take this back over and show people that guess what?
- 20:54Speaker 1: We're making good products. We're owning stores. We're giving back
- 20:57Speaker 1: to the community. We definitely should be making that go viral.
- 21:03Speaker 1: And that's the things I want to do. Like make
- 21:07Speaker 1: something like that go viral because we're celebrating a brother
- 21:11Speaker 1: that's making a difference for the culture.
- 21:13Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 21:14Speaker 5: We were down there for the 100th anniversary of the
- 21:17Speaker 5: Tulsa massacre.
- 21:19Speaker 3: We met AJ. We sat down with him, interviewed him.
- 21:21Speaker 1: Yeah. He got a lot of energy, huh?
- 21:23Speaker 3: He's one of a kind.
- 21:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 21:25Speaker 5: But he knows his business, and he broke down the
- 21:27Speaker 5: business to inspire others.
- 21:29Speaker 1: Nah, so I took my guy, Rizzo, he over there.
- 21:32Speaker 1: Him and Rizzo got that same kind of energy. So,
- 21:35Speaker 1: you know, they got that coach energy. You know, Rizzo
- 21:39Speaker 1: a coach. He been out there doing stuff on a
- 21:41Speaker 1: national level, and he's– been the spearhead of the Master
- 21:47Speaker 1: P Reviews, where we give Black-owned business opportunities to where
- 21:53Speaker 1: we're going to promote them. And that's what we did,
- 21:55Speaker 1: going down there promoting Oasis, which I think is going
- 21:59Speaker 1: to be the next big grocery store that could be
- 22:02Speaker 1: all over the U.S.
- 22:04Speaker 2: And it's needed.
- 22:04Speaker 1: It's needed.
- 22:05Speaker 2: We need grocery stores.
- 22:06Speaker 1: Yes. Yes. I mean, we got a lot of food
- 22:08Speaker 1: deserts in our community. So imagine having black-owned grocery stores
- 22:14Speaker 1: that are giving back and buy people that look like
- 22:17Speaker 1: us and go put the money back into the community.
- 22:19Speaker 1: I told, I said, you know what? We make a
- 22:21Speaker 1: tenth of 1% of the Fortune 500 CEOs, African-Americans, which
- 22:27Speaker 1: that has to change. Yeah.
- 22:30Speaker 3: You brought up the word virality, right? Did I say
- 22:33Speaker 3: it right?
- 22:34Speaker 1: Viral?
- 22:34Speaker 3: Viral.
- 22:35Speaker 5: So I'm thinking in terms of music, like you said,
- 22:37Speaker 5: because you said you came from the CD era, streaming
- 22:40Speaker 5: became a thing, and now TikTok can decide. I wonder
- 22:45Speaker 5: from your CEO lens in the world of music, how
- 22:48Speaker 5: do you feel about it, man? Could a no limit
- 22:50Speaker 5: exist in today's environment with social media?
- 22:54Speaker 1: I think we would sell billions. Because everything we've done
- 23:00Speaker 1: was raw and real. And so you imagine if you
- 23:03Speaker 1: could just capture that the way that thing was sold, billions,
- 23:10Speaker 1: because people want the real. And I think that when
- 23:14Speaker 1: you look at TikTok, anything that's authentic, it's going to go.
- 23:19Speaker 1: And man, no, I really think like even AI, all
- 23:24Speaker 1: this stuff, I know a lot of people don't like it,
- 23:25Speaker 1: but I'm like, learn how to use this stuff. Just
- 23:28Speaker 1: use it as a tool. It's not going nowhere. Like
- 23:31Speaker 1: they are linking up. Like how come we're not doing
- 23:34Speaker 1: that as business people? They are grouping up together. They
- 23:38Speaker 1: buying each other companies. They coming together. They going public
- 23:42Speaker 1: selling companies. Why we not doing that? One thing I
- 23:46Speaker 1: always wanted to ask you was your output. You was
- 23:48Speaker 1: never afraid to put out a lot of product. Like
- 23:51Speaker 1: I remember No Limit. I think you had like 30
- 23:54Speaker 1: albums that came out one year. Like every other week
- 23:56Speaker 1: there was an artist. And then you had that signature,
- 23:59Speaker 1: like the graphic design.
- 24:00Speaker 2: Graphic designs, man.
- 24:01Speaker 4: Yeah, it was like Mia X one week, Cain and
- 24:04Speaker 4: Abel one week, Silk to Chaka one week.
- 24:06Speaker 3: Bing.
- 24:06Speaker 2: Yeah, Bing one week.
- 24:07Speaker 4: It was just like, what was your thought process in that?
- 24:11Speaker 4: Because most people would be afraid to put out that
- 24:13Speaker 4: much music. They would feel like they're watering it down
- 24:15Speaker 4: or they're stepping on the artist's rollouts. What was your
- 24:19Speaker 4: thought process in just like flooding it as much as possible?
- 24:22Speaker 1: Man, let me tell you something, right? So I had
- 24:24Speaker 1: a distribution deal with Prodigy. And they told me I
- 24:26Speaker 1: only could put out one record a year. I said, no,
- 24:30Speaker 1: I put up $ 200, 000 for marketing. So I have a
- 24:34Speaker 1: distribution deal. I don't have a record deal. Well, I
- 24:37Speaker 1: get 85% and a record company get 15%. I said, no,
- 24:41Speaker 1: but it's not normal. I'm saying, that's why I did
- 24:44Speaker 1: this deal. So when I put out those 24 records
- 24:50Speaker 1: in one year, 23 of them went gold and platinum.
- 24:53Speaker 3: Hmm.
- 24:54Speaker 1: And I only could do that because I controlled the project.
- 24:59Speaker 2: 23 on Golden Platinum.
- 25:01Speaker 3: Yeah, 23.
- 25:01Speaker 2: In one year.
- 25:02Speaker 1: In one year. And guess what? That's the power of marketing. Like,
- 25:07Speaker 1: I've always been a marketing genius. Like, I took products
- 25:12Speaker 1: and marketed them inside whatever I know. I'm putting a
- 25:15Speaker 1: Master P album out. I know this is going to
- 25:17Speaker 1: be big. So I want to put these other 22
- 25:21Speaker 1: records inside that project. And I think a lot of
- 25:24Speaker 1: people want to be stars, and it's all about them.
- 25:29Speaker 1: I've never. I've always wanted to be a businessman. Like,
- 25:31Speaker 1: I don't need the private jets. When I get on
- 25:34Speaker 1: a private jet, it's because I got to be three
- 25:37Speaker 1: different places at one time. Other than that, I'm cool.
- 25:41Speaker 1: I can ride with the people. I come from the projects.
- 25:43Speaker 1: I never had nothing anyway. So it's like... I could.
- 25:47Speaker 1: I put, think about it. I probably put Snoop on
- 25:49Speaker 1: a private jet way more times than I've been on whatever,
- 25:52Speaker 1: wherever you got to go or wherever you got to go.
- 25:55Speaker 1: I've never worried about being pampered. I get minds in
- 25:57Speaker 1: the end.
- 25:58Speaker 4: So how did you get your team? Because it's like,
- 26:00Speaker 4: did you have a meeting with all the artists? Like, look,
- 26:03Speaker 4: we're going through this. Everybody's going to benefit everybody, but
- 26:06Speaker 4: we can't be selfish. Like, you're going to come out
- 26:08Speaker 4: two weeks later, there's going to be another album that
- 26:09Speaker 4: comes out, but don't worry, that's going to help.
- 26:11Speaker 1: I ain't got to do none of that. If you
- 26:12Speaker 1: the boss. That's what comes with being a prostitute. Trust
- 26:16Speaker 1: the process. Trust the process. Because think about it, I'm
- 26:18Speaker 1: putting the money up. Like, by I say, I done
- 26:20Speaker 1: took the chance for this. Like, we got to do
- 26:22Speaker 1: this my way because this is my vision. No limit
- 26:25Speaker 1: is my vision. Like, This is not somebody else's vision. Like,
- 26:30Speaker 1: I love this. I've never done this for money. So
- 26:32Speaker 1: the artist might be doing it for money. Hey, I'm
- 26:34Speaker 1: going to sell a million dollars. I'm going to make this.
- 26:35Speaker 1: I did it because I love it. I love creating things.
- 26:38Speaker 1: So that's why it's easy for me to create other
- 26:41Speaker 1: products because I love building stuff. So I've never done
- 26:45Speaker 1: stuff for the money. So a lot of artists tell me, hey, man,
- 26:47Speaker 1: I'm going to sell a million copies. I'm going to
- 26:50Speaker 1: make blah, blah, blah. I've never done that. Like, I've
- 26:52Speaker 1: never done nothing for the money. Because guess what? As
- 26:54Speaker 1: a boss, you got to be willing to take and
- 26:56Speaker 1: make no money. I brought artists houses and cars for
- 27:00Speaker 1: they even sold one record. Because I believed in them. Now,
- 27:04Speaker 1: guess what? It's artists that I brought houses and cars
- 27:08Speaker 1: for that didn't sell no records. But I had to
- 27:10Speaker 1: take the loss. And then there was some of them
- 27:12Speaker 1: that I brought houses and cars for. They sold a
- 27:14Speaker 1: lot of records. But I took the risk. So it's
- 27:17Speaker 1: come with being a boss. I paid a lot of
- 27:19Speaker 1: people that worked for me. I went home some days.
- 27:23Speaker 1: I ain't had nothing. But it comes with being a boss.
- 27:25Speaker 1: So you can't tell me what my vision. My thing
- 27:28Speaker 1: is we all are going to get along if I'm
- 27:30Speaker 1: going to be the boss. And I'm going to do
- 27:31Speaker 1: this this way so if somebody pop, then everybody going
- 27:34Speaker 1: to pop. So everybody going to get a chance to
- 27:36Speaker 1: be successful if I promote everybody. Because think about it.
- 27:40Speaker 1: I looked at it back in the days, right? If
- 27:41Speaker 1: you look at a lot of the artists, it was
- 27:44Speaker 1: always about one artist. They never was putting other people on.
- 27:49Speaker 1: I mean, I went to the West coast and I
- 27:52Speaker 1: put on West coast artists and I'm from the South.
- 27:55Speaker 1: So I've always been about, Hey, I want to put
- 27:59Speaker 1: these people on as a team that come from me
- 28:02Speaker 1: playing basketball, playing sports. So I've always thought about the team.
- 28:06Speaker 1: It never was about me.
- 28:08Speaker 5: That same mentality goes into the products, right? It's, Because
- 28:12Speaker 5: it's not like, hey, I got one product. It's like,
- 28:14Speaker 5: I got a bunch of products. Here they are.
- 28:16Speaker 1: Look, man. Product got to weigh his talent.
- 28:21Speaker 3: I still have those doodles at the crib.
- 28:22Speaker 1: Come on, man.
- 28:24Speaker 3: Talk about wrap snacks.
- 28:25Speaker 1: Wrap snacks, man. Come on.
- 28:26Speaker 3: Talk about it, man. Because this is a new flavor.
- 28:28Speaker 3: I've never seen this flavor.
- 28:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 28:29Speaker 3: Talk about this.
- 28:30Speaker 1: But let me tell y'all something, right? When you talk
- 28:32Speaker 1: about wrap snacks, it's a black-owned company. And people don't realize,
- 28:36Speaker 1: you know, everything that James went through. And when we
- 28:39Speaker 1: started just going to these places, man. to what nobody
- 28:42Speaker 1: believed and to be able to turn this into one
- 28:45Speaker 1: of the biggest chips and noodle companies. And hopefully, you know,
- 28:49Speaker 1: the next step to take this brand public, because that's
- 28:53Speaker 1: what it, that's what we should be doing growing to
- 28:56Speaker 1: get to there. Right. But this was nobody believing, you know,
- 29:01Speaker 1: in this, I can't wait. Me and James working on
- 29:03Speaker 1: right now, we working on doing a reality show because
- 29:06Speaker 1: we want to build up artists. Like we got a
- 29:08Speaker 1: lot of artists on this brand, right. But why not
- 29:10Speaker 1: put a rap snack label? That's going to be the
- 29:13Speaker 1: next step. To create a label and do it through
- 29:17Speaker 1: reality TV so you can watch the growth of these artists.
- 29:21Speaker 5: Have you been approached about acquisition? Like has, you know,
- 29:26Speaker 5: there's competitors in that space, right? You've got the Lays, PepsiCo.
- 29:29Speaker 5: Have they, because I've seen, this has been moving for
- 29:32Speaker 5: years now. It doesn't seem like it's slowing down.
- 29:34Speaker 1: New artists, new flavors.
- 29:36Speaker 3: Have they approached you about acquisition?
- 29:38Speaker 1: Well, you know what?
- 29:39Speaker 3: Of shelf space?
- 29:40Speaker 1: To be honest with you, James get people calling all
- 29:42Speaker 1: the time and they want to be a part of this. And,
- 29:45Speaker 1: you know, I mean, it's also a thing that holding
- 29:49Speaker 1: on to this for the right moment. And that's why
- 29:52Speaker 1: I was saying about what about taking this public to
- 29:55Speaker 1: where ordinary people could invest a hundred, two hundred, a
- 29:59Speaker 1: thousand dollars. And then we'd all make money together because
- 30:02Speaker 1: it's not just about us. You know, we're talking about
- 30:05Speaker 1: building generational wealth. We're talking about bridging the wealth gap.
- 30:08Speaker 1: And we're talking about having ordinary people invest into the brands.
- 30:13Speaker 1: So now, because a lot of stuff is about shelving space.
- 30:16Speaker 1: So if you got the marketing money to put this
- 30:19Speaker 1: in the main eye level on every shelf, then this
- 30:22Speaker 1: turns into a billion dollar company. So I think that's
- 30:25Speaker 1: the next step for us is taking this brand public.
- 30:29Speaker 1: And letting the community and the culture be able to
- 30:32Speaker 1: invest into this.
- 30:33Speaker 5: Is this still the most popular? Last time we spoke,
- 30:36Speaker 5: I think Lil Baby had the most popular favor.
- 30:38Speaker 1: I think the Masterpiece label is the most popular. Everybody
- 30:41Speaker 1: want that honey barbecue. I would not expect you to
- 30:43Speaker 1: say anything less. You know what I'm saying? Because think
- 30:45Speaker 1: about it. This is how it started. And so we
- 30:50Speaker 1: still here, man. And to have a partner like James, man,
- 30:54Speaker 1: it's incredible because this a guy that come from the
- 30:57Speaker 1: inner city in Philadelphia and just believed in, you know, came,
- 31:01Speaker 1: got me pee, man. I got these chips, man. I'm like, man,
- 31:04Speaker 1: come on now. He was like, no, bro. I'm telling you,
- 31:07Speaker 1: this is going to be big. Let's get out here.
- 31:09Speaker 1: And guess what? We, we got on these little small
- 31:11Speaker 1: planes and went to these factories and the rest is history.
- 31:16Speaker 1: And we, we, we still got chips.
- 31:18Speaker 3: Yeah. Still chips.
- 31:20Speaker 1: We still got chips. I ain't made a record in
- 31:23Speaker 1: 20 years, but we still got chips.
- 31:25Speaker 3: Collecting the chips.
- 31:27Speaker 1: And we're doing it the right way. That's what I
- 31:29Speaker 1: want to show the culture, right? You should be happy.
- 31:32Speaker 1: You should be smiling. If you're successful, you're happy and
- 31:35Speaker 1: you're smiling. Man, I'm happy, man. It's a good day.
- 31:41Speaker 1: We got our own noodles. Because think about it. I
- 31:43Speaker 1: grew up eating noodles. And so when I came up
- 31:46Speaker 1: with the news, I was like, James, man, I've been
- 31:49Speaker 1: eating noodles all my life. We got to do some noodles.
- 31:52Speaker 1: And we did the noodles. And so we're working on
- 31:54Speaker 1: all kinds of stuff now.
- 31:56Speaker 2: Is it a plan to expand even to other type
- 31:58Speaker 2: of food products?
- 31:59Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. Right now, we're working on a lot of
- 32:05Speaker 1: healthy food products now. We want healthy charts. And so
- 32:09Speaker 1: a lot of the fans, you know, they got on us.
- 32:12Speaker 1: We want healthy charts, and I'm listening. Because I want
- 32:15Speaker 1: to be able to save the community, give back. So
- 32:19Speaker 1: the Miller family foods is what we're doing next. So
- 32:23Speaker 1: the Miller family foods, healthy choices, healthy cereals, healthy snacks.
- 32:29Speaker 1: And think about it, though, to be honest with you,
- 32:32Speaker 1: everybody say they want healthy choices, but they don't. Let's
- 32:35Speaker 1: be honest. Everybody say, oh, I want healthy choices. Pete,
- 32:39Speaker 1: they go online and get at me. Pete, we need
- 32:41Speaker 1: healthy foods. I'm like, oh, OK. But then you don't
- 32:44Speaker 1: go by it. You go by. Oh, I like this
- 32:48Speaker 1: because so what me and James. So one thing about James,
- 32:51Speaker 1: what he know, he know how to make healthy stuff
- 32:53Speaker 1: taste good. And I think that's what the Miller family
- 32:56Speaker 1: foods is about to be. We know how to make.
- 32:59Speaker 1: healthy foods taste good. And that was, that was, that
- 33:01Speaker 1: was the problem too. We like, man, we can't compete
- 33:04Speaker 1: because if we make some healthy food and it tastes trash,
- 33:07Speaker 1: nobody's going to buy it. They're going to talk about
- 33:09Speaker 1: it and say, oh, it's healthy, but it don't taste good.
- 33:11Speaker 1: So that's why we still eat the other stuff. But
- 33:14Speaker 1: now we got some healthy food that tastes just as
- 33:18Speaker 1: good as the other stuff out there.
- 33:20Speaker 5: To talk about distribution when it comes to that, because
- 33:23Speaker 5: that's a process as well.
- 33:25Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 33:25Speaker 3: Shelf life is a process where you're on shelves.
- 33:28Speaker 5: Like, being in the large, the Kroger's of the world, Costco's,
- 33:31Speaker 5: the Walmart's. How has that process been for y'all? Do
- 33:34Speaker 5: you have to struggle or does the fact that it's
- 33:37Speaker 5: Master P's involved?
- 33:38Speaker 1: Nah, so, you know, they understand that we got a
- 33:42Speaker 1: verse to the community and the culture. And like right
- 33:45Speaker 1: now we in dollar store, which it was tough to
- 33:48Speaker 1: get in there at first. But all our people eat
- 33:51Speaker 1: in there and to get them to understand, like, you
- 33:53Speaker 1: know what? We about to, I got Rizzo, we about
- 33:56Speaker 1: to get on the road. And so we're going into
- 33:58Speaker 1: these stores and say, are they helping our community? The Targets,
- 34:02Speaker 1: the Walmarts, all these places. You know, we're going to
- 34:04Speaker 1: hold them accountable. Saying like, you know, we understand they
- 34:08Speaker 1: came up with all these different things. But no, man,
- 34:10Speaker 1: we spent a trillion dollars a year in these stores.
- 34:16Speaker 1: Y'all have to really take us serious and take care
- 34:18Speaker 1: of the community. And so we're going to start holding
- 34:21Speaker 1: them accountable, going out there saying, you know, We got
- 34:25Speaker 1: the biggest buying power. What are you doing for our
- 34:27Speaker 1: culture and our community? So I think the accountability is
- 34:31Speaker 1: the most important way that we have to go out there,
- 34:34Speaker 1: because if not, our product is not going to get
- 34:37Speaker 1: on these shelves. They like, well, they come into our
- 34:39Speaker 1: stores buying stuff anyway, so it don't matter. But holding
- 34:43Speaker 1: them accountable, saying, yeah, we understand you guys own these stores,
- 34:47Speaker 1: but we are spending a lot of money. And I
- 34:50Speaker 1: think look at Target right now, what happened? Like, I
- 34:52Speaker 1: feel like Target got hit hard this year because of
- 34:56Speaker 1: thinking that we don't need the African-American dollar. And then
- 35:01Speaker 1: they found out that, wow, these guys really spend. And so,
- 35:05Speaker 1: you know, sometimes you got to do that. You got
- 35:07Speaker 1: to go through that transition to see how, you know,
- 35:11Speaker 1: I tell people all the time, know your self-worth. And
- 35:14Speaker 1: I think our culture don't really know our worth all
- 35:16Speaker 1: the time. So, you know, and it's okay to do business,
- 35:20Speaker 1: you know, with these people. But at the same time,
- 35:23Speaker 1: you got to know that at least Pac fell with us.
- 35:28Speaker 4: What do you, you know, basketball has always been a
- 35:31Speaker 4: part of your life, right? You played basketball.
- 35:34Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 35:34Speaker 2: But now you're on a different side of it, right?
- 35:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 35:37Speaker 2: You know, watching your son play.
- 35:39Speaker 4: I see you're involved in, is it the University of
- 35:41Speaker 4: New Orleans?
- 35:41Speaker 1: No, I was coaching at the University of New Orleans,
- 35:45Speaker 1: but my son played for the University of Houston.
- 35:47Speaker 2: But you did the floor.
- 35:48Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 35:49Speaker 2: That was New Orleans.
- 35:49Speaker 1: Yes. Yeah.
- 35:50Speaker 4: So what's your plans for basketball? Like, are you going to,
- 35:55Speaker 4: I know you had the agency before, the sports agency,
- 35:57Speaker 4: Ricky Williams.
- 35:58Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 35:59Speaker 2: Is it a relaunch of that? Are you in NIL deals?
- 36:02Speaker 1: I'm in the coaching.
- 36:03Speaker 2: Coaching.
- 36:04Speaker 1: So that's what I did at the University of New Orleans,
- 36:06Speaker 1: but they, turned over to LSU. So LSU took over
- 36:11Speaker 1: the new Orleans system, which now the colors are purple
- 36:14Speaker 1: and gold. And I love Baton Rouge for LSU to
- 36:18Speaker 1: be purple and gold, but new Orleans is blue and white.
- 36:21Speaker 1: And so that's what I, you know, I feel like
- 36:23Speaker 1: new Orleans always needed his own identity for his college basketball.
- 36:27Speaker 1: I mean, we beat TCU this year. These are all
- 36:30Speaker 1: guys that I brought in and we competed with some
- 36:33Speaker 1: of the biggest teams in the country. And, um, Now
- 36:38Speaker 1: it's under the LSU umbrella, which I feel like I
- 36:41Speaker 1: love LSU purple and gold for Baton Rouge, but not
- 36:45Speaker 1: for New Orleans. And that's when I kind of like
- 36:47Speaker 1: backed away because now I think we're going to go
- 36:50Speaker 1: division two. I don't think that is going to be
- 36:52Speaker 1: a division one. I don't think LSU with all the
- 36:54Speaker 1: money they spending, they will want to compete with LSU,
- 36:57Speaker 1: New Orleans. Because that's what the team is called now.
- 37:01Speaker 2: LSU New Orleans.
- 37:02Speaker 3: I mean, how that sound to you?
- 37:06Speaker 1: Okay. Don't sound great. So think about it. I put
- 37:10Speaker 1: University of New Orleans on the map. Nobody ever heard
- 37:12Speaker 1: of it. I talked to all these NBA players. They
- 37:15Speaker 1: were like, P, I never heard of that school. And
- 37:18Speaker 1: so we put it on the map. But now I
- 37:21Speaker 1: don't have an identity. And I think the people in
- 37:23Speaker 1: the city feel the same way. Like we've been New
- 37:26Speaker 1: Orleans for all these years and now we LSU New Orleans.
- 37:30Speaker 1: So now it's like LSU had two teams and they
- 37:32Speaker 1: both purple and gold.
- 37:36Speaker 2: So you stepped away from the situation?
- 37:38Speaker 1: Yeah. No, I stepped away because, you know, now it's
- 37:41Speaker 1: under that umbrella. I know that it's going to go
- 37:43Speaker 1: division too. And so I invested a lot of money,
- 37:46Speaker 1: a lot of time, but it's also, it was a
- 37:49Speaker 1: good learning experience. I feel like maybe I might go
- 37:53Speaker 1: to the NBA next year. Maybe I might go to
- 37:56Speaker 1: another college, but I think I could be good for
- 38:00Speaker 1: a program like the Spurs.
- 38:03Speaker 2: So what exactly would you like to do in the NBA?
- 38:07Speaker 1: I would like to do the marketing, but I also
- 38:09Speaker 1: like to do the advisory to the young players and
- 38:13Speaker 1: preparing them, knowing that It's some of the recruiting, knowing
- 38:17Speaker 1: that you got good people around, the players. And I
- 38:21Speaker 1: think that's the thing, showing somebody that really love and
- 38:23Speaker 1: passionate and has the resume. I have the basketball resume
- 38:29Speaker 1: to do this. So I got a bunch of schools
- 38:32Speaker 1: that I'm looking at, but I haven't decided yet. I'm
- 38:34Speaker 1: kind of waiting to after this tour and then I'll
- 38:39Speaker 1: be back in the gym. I mean, basketball saved my life. So,
- 38:42Speaker 1: you know, I think that people understand that now. And
- 38:46Speaker 1: they see all the kids I put into the NBA.
- 38:49Speaker 1: DeRozan is one of my kids. Brandon Jennings, Lance Stevenson
- 38:55Speaker 1: from out here. I could go on Ryan Boatwright.
- 39:00Speaker 3: At UConn. Yes.
- 39:03Speaker 1: I put on Jalen Suds. I could go on and on.
- 39:08Speaker 1: I still got a bunch of players. Chad Holden played
- 39:11Speaker 1: for me. So, you know, my son's, you know, Mercy.
- 39:14Speaker 1: Matter of fact, my son, he's a dog. And what
- 39:18Speaker 1: I love about him, Mercy at Houston, right? He played
- 39:21Speaker 1: with Chad and Jell and all those guys and won
- 39:25Speaker 1: the high school state championship in the eight. grade. So
- 39:31Speaker 1: he'd been playing up all those years. And I know
- 39:36Speaker 1: how to develop dogs and so how to push them,
- 39:41Speaker 1: how to support them. And then also the mindset is
- 39:45Speaker 1: like that's so important in sports. being around good people.
- 39:49Speaker 1: So I think that's what I could bring to college
- 39:52Speaker 1: and I could bring it to the NBA because it's
- 39:55Speaker 1: that non-traditional and you need to have the business now
- 39:58Speaker 1: because college is now, it's, I mean, I think LSU
- 40:01Speaker 1: spent $ 20 million on a marketing team. Like that's they
- 40:06Speaker 1: marketing people, 20 million. Yeah.
- 40:08Speaker 5: So with that, cause as you're saying, I'm thinking, Shaq
- 40:12Speaker 5: became the general manager of the school.
- 40:14Speaker 3: Steph became the general manager.
- 40:16Speaker 1: Shaq, like last year, Shaq went on TMZ and said
- 40:20Speaker 1: he wanted to beat me and play my team. What happened?
- 40:26Speaker 1: Nobody never went back. I feel like I'm going to
- 40:29Speaker 1: make a movie about this team last year. Because, you know,
- 40:32Speaker 1: before I got there, they only won four games. Like,
- 40:36Speaker 1: they only won four games. Like, they made it to
- 40:38Speaker 1: the playoffs twice. Once I got there, like we took
- 40:41Speaker 1: this to a whole nother level. And yeah.
- 40:44Speaker 5: So if LSU comes and says, and because it's still
- 40:48Speaker 5: in the state of Louisiana.
- 40:50Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 40:51Speaker 3: Hey, P, we got this general mayor position. Are you interested?
- 40:54Speaker 5: Is that something, obviously with your marketing background, the level
- 40:58Speaker 5: of budget that they have, and you're obviously eye for talent.
- 41:02Speaker 1: So I think this year, I wouldn't do it because
- 41:06Speaker 1: they got so many players and so many coaches. LSU's
- 41:09Speaker 1: crazy right now.
- 41:10Speaker 2: They got a pro team.
- 41:10Speaker 1: Yeah, they got a pro team. And they got an
- 41:12Speaker 1: older team.
- 41:12Speaker 2: That's what I'm saying.
- 41:13Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 41:14Speaker 2: They got dudes like 25, 26.
- 41:15Speaker 1: I think they got the oldest team in history. Never.
- 41:19Speaker 1: So my thing is this year, I want to wait.
- 41:24Speaker 1: Maybe I might go to HBCU this year.
- 41:27Speaker 3: Okay.
- 41:28Speaker 1: So I haven't decided.
- 41:29Speaker 3: John Wall just did that.
- 41:31Speaker 1: Yeah, John Wall just did it. So I'm thinking about
- 41:36Speaker 1: maybe that or going to the NBA. But, yeah, I
- 41:39Speaker 1: would definitely go and help HBCU and help put that
- 41:44Speaker 1: on the map.
- 41:45Speaker 3: Maybe back in Toronto.
- 41:47Speaker 1: Maybe. Maybe. Where did the– oh, think about it, right?
- 41:54Speaker 1: So I played against Bronson's dad growing up, right? So
- 41:59Speaker 1: we in New York. And I look at it, I say,
- 42:04Speaker 1: I can't wait to see his dad because I'm like, man,
- 42:06Speaker 1: your son way better than you. You know, because he
- 42:10Speaker 1: used to talk a lot of noise back in the day.
- 42:13Speaker 1: But I'm proud of that family, man. I definitely want
- 42:16Speaker 1: to say that I'm in New York. I'm proud of him,
- 42:18Speaker 1: his wife, and his son, that as a family, the
- 42:22Speaker 1: way they represent. I mean, it's incredible because his dad
- 42:26Speaker 1: deserved it, man. I mean, we was fighting the whole
- 42:30Speaker 1: way up from the CBA to minor leagues. Like people
- 42:33Speaker 1: don't really know the story and the history. They just think, oh,
- 42:37Speaker 1: Master P just popped up in the NBA or even
- 42:39Speaker 1: Bronson did. Like that man went through a lot of adversity.
- 42:44Speaker 1: you know, in the CBA, the minor leagues, before getting
- 42:48Speaker 1: in and finding these different teams. So people don't know
- 42:51Speaker 1: the journey is for real, man. One day you go
- 42:54Speaker 1: to these teams, and next thing you know, your key
- 42:57Speaker 1: code don't work. Your service is no longer needed in
- 43:02Speaker 1: the community. So you got to go find another job quick.
- 43:06Speaker 2: So you just brought up Rick Brunson.
- 43:10Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 43:11Speaker 2: You're a great father as well.
- 43:12Speaker 4: And you have tremendous track record with your sons from
- 43:15Speaker 4: music to sports. And that's not highlighted. What's the formula
- 43:19Speaker 4: that you have used to raise young men to become
- 43:24Speaker 4: successful on their own?
- 43:25Speaker 2: Yes.
- 43:26Speaker 1: Spending time with them, teaching them hard work and preparation.
- 43:31Speaker 1: So consistency is it. And the most important thing, putting
- 43:34Speaker 1: God first. Like I teach my kids that I tell
- 43:37Speaker 1: my son every day. man, because you could get hurt
- 43:40Speaker 1: no matter what. You got to give God the glory.
- 43:41Speaker 1: So first thing, you got to give God the glory.
- 43:44Speaker 1: And then, you know, we.
- 43:45Speaker 3: Got to work.
- 43:46Speaker 1: We got to put our body through conditions that's going
- 43:52Speaker 1: to be uncomfortable if you really want to be successful.
- 43:55Speaker 1: And so none of my kids had cars until they
- 43:58Speaker 1: got to college. You're either going to ride your bike
- 44:01Speaker 1: to school, you're going to run to school, you're going
- 44:04Speaker 1: to walk to school, or you're going to catch a ride. But,
- 44:06Speaker 1: you know, I grew up in poverty. We ain't had
- 44:08Speaker 1: all that. So it's like, you know what? I want
- 44:10Speaker 1: you to earn. Like my son, what I love about Mercy,
- 44:13Speaker 1: I mean, he's giving back. I mean, he's not just
- 44:16Speaker 1: taking his NIL money and just I'm going splurge. No,
- 44:20Speaker 1: we just did a basketball camp with over a thousand
- 44:23Speaker 1: kids the other day. So he's making sure his Lord
- 44:27Speaker 1: have mercy foundation. He's making a difference. And so I
- 44:30Speaker 1: think that's what I raise my kids on. You know,
- 44:33Speaker 1: the more you make, the more you give. And when
- 44:35Speaker 1: you bless others, blessings will come back to you.
- 44:39Speaker 5: When you look at the landscape, obviously music has done
- 44:43Speaker 5: it for you. In terms of the next opportunity of wealth,
- 44:48Speaker 5: where do you see it?
- 44:50Speaker 1: Is it in sports?
- 44:50Speaker 3: Is it in entertainment? Is it in tech? How are
- 44:52Speaker 3: you looking at the landscape of business right now?
- 44:54Speaker 1: I feel the next landscape for me and my family
- 44:58Speaker 1: is making money in your sleep. It's definitely tech. It's
- 45:02Speaker 1: definitely being able to understand the ecosystems. And I think
- 45:08Speaker 1: a lot of people not looking at that, they still
- 45:10Speaker 1: caught up in the past, brick and borders. But no, man,
- 45:15Speaker 1: you have to be able to have a consumer online
- 45:20Speaker 1: and to be able to sell them something. And I
- 45:23Speaker 1: think that that's where the world is going because people
- 45:25Speaker 1: don't even want to go to stores no more. They
- 45:27Speaker 1: just want the stuff to pop up at their house.
- 45:29Speaker 1: So being able to establish great customer service, reliable product,
- 45:35Speaker 1: that you could send out in the mail and people
- 45:38Speaker 1: know they're going to get their stuff on time. That's
- 45:40Speaker 1: the way.
- 45:43Speaker 4: You had so many legendary moments in your career, from
- 45:46Speaker 4: music to movies to sports, and you've had conversations with
- 45:50Speaker 4: high-level executives. What did you learn in meetings with people
- 45:55Speaker 4: as far as negotiation and business throughout your 30 years
- 45:59Speaker 4: of business?
- 45:59Speaker 2: What are some of the lessons that you learned?
- 46:01Speaker 1: Well, for me, the first lesson is never do a
- 46:03Speaker 1: deal when you're desperate. And I think a lot of
- 46:06Speaker 1: us running there, hey, I got to pay the light bill.
- 46:09Speaker 1: I got to pay the rent. And they're like, oh,
- 46:11Speaker 1: you do, huh? They see it. Oh, that's what you're
- 46:14Speaker 1: going to get. You're going to get rent money and
- 46:16Speaker 1: bill money. And that's it. And also knowing your work.
- 46:23Speaker 1: I mean, when I turned that deal line with Jimmy Iovine,
- 46:26Speaker 1: I taught him one thing, that everybody, just because you got, oh,
- 46:30Speaker 1: I'm going to give you this, you don't have to
- 46:32Speaker 1: take it. So no deal is that big that you
- 46:35Speaker 1: can't turn down. So I'm a kid coming from the project,
- 46:38Speaker 1: just been offered a million dollars, and I'm like, nah,
- 46:41Speaker 1: I'm good. Yeah.
- 46:43Speaker 4: But you was able to do that because independent, though.
- 46:46Speaker 4: You had some way to make money, though. That's important
- 46:49Speaker 4: for people to understand, too.
- 46:50Speaker 1: Yeah, well, I mean, think about it. That's not true
- 46:53Speaker 1: because I'm still going back to nothing. Nothing is promised,
- 46:57Speaker 1: but you have to know. So that's what I'm saying.
- 46:59Speaker 1: You have to bet on yourself. You are your most
- 47:03Speaker 1: important investment. I think a lot of people don't bet
- 47:05Speaker 1: on themselves. What I looked at, I said, wow, this
- 47:08Speaker 1: guy don't know me. He offered me a million dollars.
- 47:10Speaker 1: He's going to sign me the check right now. How
- 47:12Speaker 1: much I'm worth. Not how much I have at home. No,
- 47:16Speaker 1: this guy about to give me a million dollars. I'm
- 47:17Speaker 1: going to be a millionaire. Okay, but how much am
- 47:21Speaker 1: I worth? Because if you don't even know me, like
- 47:23Speaker 1: think about it. If you just walked up to somebody
- 47:26Speaker 1: and said, hey man, I'm going to give you a
- 47:27Speaker 1: million dollars. Dude, like for what? I'm like, Then I'm like, well,
- 47:32Speaker 1: how much you gave Suge Knight? Oh, we gave him 10.
- 47:37Speaker 1: So I'm like, oh, okay. But you only going to
- 47:40Speaker 1: give me one? All right. I'm about to go get
- 47:44Speaker 1: some lunch.
- 47:47Speaker 3: You know, it's crazy.
- 47:48Speaker 5: As you're telling the story, the Seat at the Table
- 47:51Speaker 5: album just came to my head. It's like, because you
- 47:54Speaker 5: tell the story on that album.
- 47:56Speaker 3: And I'm like, he's telling it now. That's so surreal. Obviously,
- 48:00Speaker 3: that deal worked out for you. Yeah.
