- 0:00Bag alert, bag alert, bag alert, bag alert, bag alert folks that's right I called it,
- 0:09I called it, no one else called it, I called it.
- 0:13I was the one that said on the last episode that guess what there's a good chance that
- 0:18we were going to have a bag alert and something was going to happen and just when I was editing,
- 0:23just when I was gearing put out this episode this morning, guess what happens?
- 0:27CD lamb gets paid, called it greatest football podcast in the world.
- 0:32It's all I got to say, all right, but we have to get into all of these things.
- 0:36Okay, CD lamb gets paid.
- 0:38Of course, we do have to ask because we always have to with with anytime we have a bag alert,
- 0:44does this affect Jamar Chase and brand are you a situation?
- 0:48If it does cool, if it doesn't don't really care about it.
- 0:50Malik Willis finally gets a fresh start a new opportunity.
- 0:54I'm so happy for him to get it as well as the Texans in the Broncos are sellers.
- 1:02We got a lot to talk about folks, a lot to talk about.
- 1:05We are one episode away from 30 episodes, one episode away from 30 episodes.
- 1:13I don't know if you guys realize this, but that is a major milestone, major milestone.
- 1:19Guess what we have all of this to talk about and more on the 29th episode of the football
- 1:24junkies podcast.
- 1:25I'm your host, Bagrod Thomas, two time Bagrod Thomas.
- 1:30Okay, I am your chief head of the table, chief bag meteorologist.
- 1:36Okay, I am your GM who currently is not on a team right now, but my predictions have
- 1:42come to pass and they will continue to come to pass because I am Bagrod Thomas.
- 1:47But most importantly, the most important title, I am your host, Kale.
- 1:52You already know what I'm getting ready to say.
- 1:54Let's lock you.
- 2:24All right, folks, let's just get into everything.
- 2:33All right, we're not going to stall.
- 2:35We are not going to waste any more time.
- 2:38Okay, let's get into everything.
- 2:40We're going to try to keep this episode as short, sweet and to the point.
- 2:45Okay, that is the goal in this episode and future episodes.
- 2:48Okay, because we've been putting out a lot of long episodes lately and we just want to
- 2:54try to try to bring things back just a little bit.
- 2:57But hey, you know, when you have a lot of things happening, you know, you got to talk
- 3:01about it because why we are the football junkies podcast.
- 3:04We are the hub.
- 3:05We are the place to go with all things related to football, not to mention college football
- 3:12also starts this week.
- 3:14So we also have to talk about that as well.
- 3:17Man, man, oh man, this is going to be busy, busy, busy.
- 3:22All right, let's get into it.
- 3:25So CD Land receiving for the Dallas Cowboys into a four year 136 mega deal.
- 3:32Okay, he gets 38, he gets a $38 million signing bonus, 100 million in total guarantees, and
- 3:40he will be making 34 million a year.
- 3:43Okay, now let's go over just a few notes and whatnot.
- 3:48So this is the largest signing bonus for receiver, 38 million, and he is second behind Justin
- 3:56Jefferson in a wide receiver guarantees at 100 million.
- 4:01Now when we look at his stats, you know, for last season, he had 135 receptions, 1,749 yards,
- 4:1112 touchdowns, and he averaged 13 yards of play according to ESPN.
- 4:17It's the coffee, it's definitely the coffee.
- 4:20Now more notes, right, before we get into everything that we need to get into.
- 4:26He's had three 1000 yard seasons straight, 2021, 2022, and 2023.
- 4:33He was the most productive receiver against man coverage with 70 targets for 49 receptions
- 4:39and 794 yards.
- 4:41That is 132 more yards than any receiver in the league.
- 4:47Not to me.
- 4:48He gained 894 yards from the slot and 829 yards when lined up outside according to NFL
- 4:56Pro.
- 4:57So when we look at it here, the Cowboys were definitely in a situation where they definitely
- 5:01needed to pay CDLAM and they realized that because there is no other receiver that is
- 5:07as productive as CDLAM.
- 5:11And you know, when you're talking about somebody who has that inside outside versatility and
- 5:16the way that they use CDLAM, you better pay him.
- 5:20You better pay him because you don't have anybody else that can do the things that he
- 5:24do.
- 5:25It'll be different if they still had Michael Gallup and they still had a Marnie Cooper
- 5:29in company, then it opens up to a different conversation.
- 5:35But you know, when it's literally just CDLAM, you have to pay him.
- 5:40This is the price that you pay for having a superstar receiver.
- 5:45This is the price.
- 5:46And you know what?
- 5:47That might actually be the title.
- 5:48See?
- 5:49Come on, man.
- 5:50Best podcast in the world.
- 5:51Come on now.
- 5:52Now, when we go a little bit deeper in this, I've definitely looked at the stacks and you
- 5:57know, shout out to Corey, one of the members of the Not That Serious podcast.
- 6:05You guys can find them on YouTube or Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you guys listen
- 6:09to podcasts as well.
- 6:11We've definitely been going back and forth about this.
- 6:15And I didn't realize it until I actually looked at the stats.
- 6:18CDLAM has been lined up in the slot a lot.
- 6:22So essentially, what it looks like to me is they just reset at the slot receiver market.
- 6:29Wow.
- 6:30I don't...
- 6:33I don't...
- 6:35I don't know how to feel about this, folks.
- 6:39This is a weird...
- 6:42This is a weird situation because granted, the times that I have seen Cowboys games, I've
- 6:47always seen CDLAM where?
- 6:52Lined up on the outside.
- 6:53I've never really seen him lined up on the slot.
- 6:55But you know, the stats don't lie.
- 6:57Stats do not lie.
- 6:58So maybe I'm going to have to look at more CDLAM footage.
- 7:02I probably will or something.
- 7:04But geez, I did not expect this.
- 7:06I did not.
- 7:07I did not expect this.
- 7:09I was...
- 7:10I was befuddled again.
- 7:13Be fuddled.
- 7:14But did you know what?
- 7:15It's fine.
- 7:16It's fine.
- 7:17Now, with all of this and whatnot, I think it does open up somewhat of a secondary conversation
- 7:23of that everybody immediately asks, as soon as someone like a CDLAM gets paid the type
- 7:30of money that he gets paid, does this affect other receivers that are looking for deals?
- 7:36And you have to look at it from a situational basis.
- 7:41You can't just group everybody into the same decision.
- 7:46When you look at it for Jermara Chase's case, I think it definitely ups up the ante for
- 7:54them because now Jermara Chase has more money that he could dictate and say, hey, listen,
- 8:02he's the second highest paid.
- 8:04I'm close to him.
- 8:06I may be better than him in certain aspects on the field, but he just got close.
- 8:14I'm trying to get as close as I can to him or at least try to get in the middle between
- 8:19him and Justin Jefferson, one of the two.
- 8:23So I mean, in that type of situation, it's definitely going to have major ramifications
- 8:31for Jermara Chase moving forward because if Jermara Chase has a better season than CDLAM
- 8:38and his stats are like literally neck and neck with Justin Jefferson, that opens up
- 8:46the floodgates.
- 8:47That changes everything.
- 8:49That means that whatever agreements that they had in place are basically scrapped at that
- 8:55point.
- 8:56You're basically starting from step one and trying to do the whole process all over again.
- 9:03Now, when you look at the free age or receiver market, there's going to be a lot of notable
- 9:08names that are going to be available such as Deontay Johnson, Stefan Diggs, Kenan Allen,
- 9:15and Company.
- 9:16So you have that mixed with T. Higgins, Hollywood Brown, Odo Beckham Jr., whatnot.
- 9:24So it's a good thing for the receiver market, but it's also a bad thing because now you're
- 9:31going to have players who, if they have better seasons than what they're supposed to have,
- 9:38well, no, let me rephrase it.
- 9:41If they have like a crazy season statistically speaking, that could jack up the price even
- 9:48more for receivers.
- 9:49And granted, we have seen now that the league has accepted the receiver market now in values
- 9:56than more simply because you're seeing more people getting paid as a receiver.
- 10:03I could probably make a strong case that this offseason alone, this has probably been the
- 10:08most, not only friction, but the most, well, no, not baggolards.
- 10:14I don't know.
- 10:15I'm drawing a blank.
- 10:16This is probably the one offseason where I have seen multiple, multiple receivers get
- 10:23paid 30, 35, almost close to $40 million.
- 10:30I would not be surprised, and this is a baggoladamus prediction.
- 10:34You're hearing it here first on the Football Junkies podcast.
- 10:38I would not be surprised if somebody creses the $40 million mark within the next three
- 10:44years.
- 10:45I would not be surprised.
- 10:46I'm just going to say that I'm going to get the first.
- 10:47Simply because, you know, receivers now are valued because not only of the skill set that
- 10:53they bring, but like how much influence they also have on an offense.
- 10:59Like we're seeing it now that in order for a team to be successful, they have to have
- 11:03a number one receiver.
- 11:05They have to have, you know, an elite quarterback.
- 11:07They have to have, you know, an elite pass rusher and elite offensive linemen and whatnot.
- 11:12So when you have that mixed with, you know, college football is basically a receiver factory
- 11:19and you're basically getting, you know, NFL caliber receiver, multiple NFL caliber receivers
- 11:25every staff, regardless if it's an offensive draft or defensive draft, the prices is going
- 11:31to continue to go up, right?
- 11:33And that's not even counting when people like Marvin Harrison, Jr., you know, becomes available
- 11:38to, you know, to start doing contracts and whatnot, it's only going to continue to go
- 11:43up.
- 11:44It really is.
- 11:45So, you know, congratulations to CDLAM.
- 11:48Now moving on to Malik Willis.
- 11:51Okay.
- 11:52So former, former Titans quarterback Malik Willis was traded yesterday to the Packers.
- 11:58So the Packers of course received Malik Willis and the Titans are receiving a 2025 seventh
- 12:03round pick.
- 12:04Now when we look at it, this was definitely a move that was definitely needed simply because
- 12:08Malik Willis really didn't have a chance, you know, when being drafted to the Titans,
- 12:14right?
- 12:15Instantly, you know, they started to favor, you know, Will Leviss and really started to
- 12:19give him a chance and everybody knew that Malik Willis coming out of Liberty that year,
- 12:25he was a raw prospect.
- 12:27He was, he still had a lot of things that he had to work on.
- 12:29He had to work on his mechanics, had to work on play calling, had to work on his execution,
- 12:33all those different types of things.
- 12:35But the, but the skill set is there.
- 12:38He just had to work on the basics and whatnot.
- 12:41So you know, the Titans, the Titans are going through a lot of change and a lot of, you
- 12:46know, turnover from the last regime to now, right?
- 12:51And so this is, you know, expected when you do have a new GM, they're going to clean house,
- 12:57they're going to get rid of a lot of the older, you know, a lot of the players that, you know,
- 13:01they feel like, you know, should probably go somewhere else and probably won't be on
- 13:05this team, they're going to get rid of them.
- 13:07And this is, you know, and this is what happens.
- 13:09So I think him going to the Packers is probably a great situation.
- 13:13You're on a young team.
- 13:15You know, you get to sit behind Jordan Love and, you know, you probably get to get coached
- 13:19by someone like Matt LaFleur.
- 13:21So all in all, I think it's a great situation for him.
- 13:26You know, it's, it's nothing, it's nothing where it's like, oh, he was trash, he was
- 13:31this, that, you know, look at it.
- 13:33Will Levis show, showed a lot of upside, you know, during this past season and, you know,
- 13:40they got me screwed off.
- 13:41So you have those two quarterbacks right there.
- 13:44And you know, Malik Willis is basically ass out.
- 13:48That that's, that's just what it is.
- 13:50That is what happened.
- 13:51That is what happens when it comes to football.
- 13:55This is the side of football and not a lot of people talk about, but this is what happens.
- 13:59But even then it gives him a chance to possibly maybe start in a game or two.
- 14:05You know, if Jordan Love, you know, for some apparent reason gets hurt or anything crazy
- 14:09like that.
- 14:10So it's definitely a good situation for him.
- 14:14Now on to another topic that we need to talk about.
- 14:17Actually, you know, is that going to be the final topic?
- 14:19Oh, wow, we are breezing through this thing.
- 14:21See, I'm telling you guys, we're keeping things light.
- 14:25We're keeping things in a good enough timeframe for everybody to listen to.
- 14:30We're not trying to do this long and drawn out because I know we've been doing a lot
- 14:33of longer drawn out episodes lately.
- 14:36So I definitely want to just keep things fresh and keep things light.
- 14:40And at the same time, you know, talking things we need to talk about and whatnot and just
- 14:44keep pushing.
- 14:45Now I will say this while I am recording, a lot of things are happening, you know, in
- 14:52the league because it is cut down and basically teams have until four, I think it is four
- 14:59o'clock this afternoon to, you know, cut the rosters down.
- 15:02So you have people like Teris Marshall Jr. that got cut Desmond Ritter, James Pierre,
- 15:08CJ, um, Bethard, you have Adrian Amos, you have what's to do is name CJ Henderson, he
- 15:15got cut.
- 15:16Um, who else?
- 15:17Who else?
- 15:18Who else?
- 15:19And then Robinson, Miles Boykin, Caleb Farley.
- 15:22So you have a lot of movement that is happening.
- 15:26As we speak right now, as I am recording this right now, a lot of things are happening
- 15:31and a lot of it is because, you know, teams are, you know, making their roster cuts and
- 15:36whatnot.
- 15:37But, you know, I will say this, this is what I will say.
- 15:42What's one man's trash is another man's treasure, right?
- 15:45And the reason why I say that is because a lot of times, you know, some of these players,
- 15:51they, you know, they'll come back on the same team that they were cut from.
- 15:55They'll probably just join the practice squad or whatever.
- 15:57They'll probably just wait for another opportunity depending on where you are in your NFL career.
- 16:03Right.
- 16:04For instance, like Alan Robinson, right?
- 16:06Alan Robinson is an 11 year veteran, right?
- 16:09So technically speaking, you know, he could probably go and wait, you know, for another
- 16:15opportunity to arise, right?
- 16:17Compared to someone like a Miles Boykin where you're mainly used for special teams, you
- 16:22know, and you may not, you'll probably get some traction, but you probably won't get
- 16:28a whole lot of traction, right?
- 16:30And then you even have, you know, former first round picks, Caleb Farley and CJ Henderson,
- 16:35who, you know, they have not lived up to the expectations that a lot of people had for
- 16:40them.
- 16:41And, you know, they just, you know, they just had to get cut, especially for Caleb Farley.
- 16:45Caleb Farley definitely, definitely was someone that I definitely was interested in, you know,
- 16:52when he was coming out of Virginia Tech, but he just hasn't been able to do it.
- 16:57Now, a lot of that is because, you know, he's had, I think he had a back injury one year
- 17:01and then he has like asthma that's supposed to be like really bad, like just a whole bunch
- 17:06of stuff.
- 17:07And you know what?
- 17:08It happens.
- 17:09It does.
- 17:10And then later, it's going to have this successful career.
- 17:12It's not going to get, you know, the big paycheck, but, you know, this is the business side of
- 17:19football that not a lot of people talk about and not a lot of people like because, you
- 17:24know, it definitely, it's a lot.
- 17:26It definitely is a lot.
- 17:27And I talked about it, you know, in the last episode, but, you know, this, this is a time
- 17:33where, you know, it's, there's a lot of tension because you don't know if you're going to
- 17:38get traded, if you're going to get cut, if you're going to be able to return to the practice
- 17:42squad and whatnot.
- 17:43And that takes a lot, especially when you have given your all in training camp, you've
- 17:48given your all into the preseason and you feel like you've, you know, you've done enough
- 17:53to be, to be like, okay, I, you know, I have a roster spot here.
- 17:59And you know, they'll come up to you and say, Hey, you know, we, we think you did a great
- 18:04job, but you know, we don't think this is probably the best opportunity for you.
- 18:09And they cut you.
- 18:10And that's a tough thing to take because now you have to figure out, you know, what are
- 18:14you going to do moving forward?
- 18:16And you know, it's not like there's a robust of opportunities on these teams.
- 18:21It's very competitive outside of the star players and whatnot.
- 18:26The rest of the roster spots are very competitive.
- 18:29They are, you know, here today gone tomorrow type of situations.
- 18:33If you get hurt and the injury is, is a significant, most likely they'll have your replacement
- 18:40already on the plane, you know, ready, ready to sign a one year deal.
- 18:45That's just the, the brutal side of it that, you know, not a lot of people talk about.
- 18:50And you know, sometimes as fans, they, they try to turn it into a joke or whatnot.
- 18:56When it's like, no, this is people's livelihood.
- 18:58We're talking about this is, you know, a lot of these players are the, the primary care
- 19:03taker for not only themselves, but for their families and whatnot.
- 19:06So a lot rise on this type of stuff.
- 19:09Now onto the final topic, a lot, you know, with everything that's going on and whatnot
- 19:14cuts and trades and, you know, all those various different, different types of things.
- 19:19We do have to talk about two teams that have definitely started to become sellers.
- 19:25And that is the Broncos and the Texans.
- 19:27So apparently a lot of teams have inquired with the Texans about, about, you know, receivers
- 19:34such as John Mechie and other receivers that may be at the bottom part of their, you know,
- 19:41of their receiver roster.
- 19:42So as well as, you know, the Broncos teams are calling about Tim Patrick because Tim Patrick
- 19:48actually looks very promising.
- 19:50This is probably the best we've seen Tim Patrick since, since his arrival into the lead.
- 19:55And granted, the only problem with, with Tim Patrick, I think that makes me very wary
- 20:00about him is because of his extensive injury history.
- 20:04Like he literally had two season, two season ending injuries back to back.
- 20:10Right.
- 20:11And he's just been, I want to say a glasshouse, but he just hasn't been able to stay healthy.
- 20:17And in a league where, you know, availability is the best ability, you have to stay somewhat
- 20:22healthy.
- 20:23And granted, you know, in the preseason, he was looking phenomenal.
- 20:26He's making the catches.
- 20:28He was creating separation.
- 20:30He was doing all those different types of things, but it's like, bro, if you just stay
- 20:34healthy just one season, one season, I guarantee you somebody will definitely give you a chance.
- 20:41But I do think someone like John Mechie, I think that's a very unique trade to go for
- 20:47because one, he's still on his rookie deal.
- 20:49So you don't have to worry about, you know, oh, this is going to be a large cap pay.
- 20:54Do we have to do a restructure?
- 20:55You don't have to worry about that.
- 20:57You, the, the trade for him is relatively easy to make because you don't have to give
- 21:02up, you know, a first round pick, a second round pick or a third round pick.
- 21:06You could probably give them a conditional fifth that can turn into a fourth round pick
- 21:10for John Mechie.
- 21:11John Mechie is a deep threat who can, you know, play in the slot, play on the outside,
- 21:17play with route runner and, you know, someone who he's, you know, his goal is to score.
- 21:24That's who John Mechie is.
- 21:25And, you know, John Mechie was, was talked about very highly, you know, definitely when
- 21:30he was coming out of Alabama and he was definitely someone that I definitely, you know, really
- 21:35wanted honestly.
- 21:36Like I really wanted John Mechie.
- 21:38So would I be surprised if, you know, if either one of them gets traded?
- 21:42No, I wouldn't.
- 21:43Even Robert Woods.
- 21:44Robert Woods is even getting some traction as well, simply because he's a great blocking
- 21:49receiver.
- 21:50He's probably one of the best blocking receivers, right?
- 21:54So you have that on top of, you know, he was on that, that Rams championship team.
- 21:59So teams may try to, you know, may try to get that as well for that championship type
- 22:04of pedigree player and whatnot.
- 22:05So it's a lot of things that are happening.
- 22:09And you know, with this much movement, I would not be surprised if the trade deadline is just
- 22:14like this or even, or even worse.
- 22:16Anyway, not a good worse, not a bad worse.
- 22:19And the reason why I say that is because teams are trying to win now.
- 22:24Okay.
- 22:25You still, you have teams like the Ravens, like the 49ers, who else liked the chiefs
- 22:32and company like the Eagles who are trying to win now.
- 22:36And if there is a player that they feel like that, if they get that play that they're going
- 22:39to be an instant impact and that can, and that can probably take them to the next level,
- 22:44they are going to get them.
- 22:46They are going to move heaven and earth to get them.
- 22:49Now the only problem is for teams like the 49ers, they're in the, the pressure is really
- 22:56mounted on them this year because they, they have a, they don't have a whole lot of, you
- 23:02know, leverage.
- 23:03They don't have a whole lot of time with their situation because they are going to be over,
- 23:09I think $39 million over the cap next year.
- 23:13Not to mention, not to mention, right?
- 23:16You have the holdout with both Brandon and Trent Williams and on top of that, I keep
- 23:21my saying Brandon and you and Brock, is, is up for a deal next year.
- 23:26And you know, if, if the 49ers went in all this year, that's $60 million that's going
- 23:31to Brock, as I've said before, episodes.
- 23:33So you know, they have, this is the year that they have to win it.
- 23:37I don't think there is another two or three years where they can continue to roll with
- 23:42the roster that they have and you know, probably try to stay competitive.
- 23:46I just don't, I think they've, I think they've been trying to mortgage a championship for
- 23:51the past few years and have been unsuccessful.
- 23:54A lot of that has been, you know, has been because of their own fault when it comes to
- 23:58coaching and, you know, various different things.
- 24:01But the fact of the matter is folks, it's going to be active.
- 24:05This is going to, this is, this is my prediction.
- 24:07This is my prediction.
- 24:08I didn't hear this from anybody else.
- 24:10I don't have any sources or anything, but this is my prediction.
- 24:12I do believe this is going to go down in history as one of the most active trade deadlines
- 24:18this year.
- 24:19Multiple top notch players are going to get moved.
- 24:23They are going to be put in better situations.
- 24:25You have people like JC Horn, Marshawn Latimer, that's not getting talked about a whole lot,
- 24:30Savante Adams, Hassan Reddick and company who are going to want out of their situation
- 24:37and who are going to want to be in, who are going to be going to be put in better situations.
- 24:43So you have that mixed with, you know, teams, teams are more, are more likely to give up
- 24:50high draft compensation just so they can be able to, you know, to sweeten up the deal.
- 24:56Of course, if it means that they can win the championship, okay, they'll throw away first
- 25:00run pick.
- 25:01They won't think twice about it.
- 25:02That's just, that's just the mentality that GMs are having now.
- 25:06You're seeing more GMs who have become somewhat gunslingers when it comes to trades who are
- 25:12pulling the trigger, not thinking twice about it, who are, you know, not really thinking
- 25:17about the repercussions and whatnot, not trying to be reserved.
- 25:20They are trying to put, they are trying to assemble the best team that they possibly
- 25:24can and it shows.
- 25:26So I'm going to end this, I'm going to end this episode right here if you guys like what
