Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Good, how's your day going?
- 0:02Speaker 2: I'm really good, how are you?
- 0:03Speaker 1: I'm good, I'm Matt, nice to meet you.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Nice to meet you, Matt Alley, how are you, Matt?
- 0:07Speaker 1: Yeah, sweet as, how are you going?
- 0:09Speaker 2: I'm good, I'm good. So Matt from Mertes, you guys
- 0:12Speaker 2: are all the way from the NT.
- 0:15Speaker 1: We are, yeah, we're a punk band from North East
- 0:17Speaker 1: Arnhem Land.
- 0:18Speaker 3: That is so bizarre. I actually am quite familiar with
- 0:21Speaker 3: Arnhem Land. I have family that lived many, many years
- 0:24Speaker 3: in Owen Pelly.
- 0:25Speaker 1: Oh, wow.
- 0:26Speaker 2: Cool. Yeah.
- 0:27Speaker 1: We're on the northeast side of that.
- 0:28Speaker 2: So, yeah.
- 0:29Speaker 1: Yeah. Nice one. Have you been there before?
- 0:32Speaker 2: I have.
- 0:32Speaker 1: I have.
- 0:33Speaker 2: It's been so many years, but I am very familiar. Yeah.
- 0:35Speaker 3: So it's a special part of the country, isn't it?
- 0:38Speaker 3: It's definitely a culture shock if you haven't been there before.
- 0:42Speaker 3: It's maybe not what people expect, but lovely, lovely place,
- 0:46Speaker 3: lovely people. But, yeah, so what's the weather like?
- 0:50Speaker 2: Wet and hot?
- 0:51Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, you got one time of the year it
- 0:54Speaker 1: rains and one time it's really hot, but we don't
- 0:57Speaker 1: think it's all that hot. It's nice and sunny outside
- 1:00Speaker 1: at the moment.
- 1:01Speaker 3: Nice, nice, because you're in your dry season at the moment,
- 1:04Speaker 3: are you?
- 1:04Speaker 1: Yeah, we are. So this is like our winter, which
- 1:07Speaker 1: is as cold as it gets. It's around 26 degrees,
- 1:10Speaker 1: but that's pretty cold.
- 1:11Speaker 2: I live on the Northern Rivers. It's about the same temperature.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Yeah, it's cold.
- 1:15Speaker 2: I was fucking cold, I'm telling you. Yeah.
- 1:18Speaker 3: Yeah, and then you fly in and out through Jabiru
- 1:20Speaker 3: when it's– otherwise you get stuck in there and it's
- 1:23Speaker 3: not much fun. But, yeah, so a punk band from
- 1:25Speaker 3: NT and of all places, the far north. Tell me
- 1:30Speaker 3: how that come about. Tell the listeners about where Murder
- 1:33Speaker 3: started and what your inspiration has been and all the rest.
- 1:39Speaker 1: Yeah, I just grew up going to the skate park
- 1:42Speaker 1: all the time and I used to really like hip-hop
- 1:44Speaker 1: sort of music and then one of my skater mates–
- 1:47Speaker 1: showed me a bunch of, like, punk stuff and Tool
- 1:50Speaker 1: and stuff like that. And I was like, yeah, this
- 1:52Speaker 1: is cool. I could get around this. And then I
- 1:55Speaker 1: was doing a lot of vocals in a sort of
- 1:58Speaker 1: Rage Against the Machine-y kind of outfit, but I didn't
- 2:01Speaker 1: know how to play guitar. And then I got bored.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Nice, nice.
- 2:07Speaker 3: I think we've got a bit of a lag happening
- 2:08Speaker 3: at the moment.
- 2:09Speaker 2: I don't know. I think it might be my internet
- 2:10Speaker 2: as well.
- 2:11Speaker 3: It was telling me there was low bandwidth despite the
- 2:13Speaker 3: fact I pay for fast internet.
- 2:15Speaker 2: I don't think it's yourself, though. Sorry. Sorry, go on.
- 2:19Speaker 3: Yeah, so you started with hip-hop and a background being
- 2:23Speaker 3: inspired by and moved into the more doing a bit
- 2:25Speaker 3: more heavier stuff and led you to.
- 2:27Speaker 2: Did you say you don't play guitar? You just sing?
- 2:29Speaker 1: No, no, I do play guitar. Yeah, so that's how
- 2:33Speaker 1: the band started. I started learning how to play guitar
- 2:37Speaker 1: and then hit up a couple of mates and was like,
- 2:39Speaker 1: you want to jam out? Then we started recording stuff
- 2:43Speaker 1: and then that's about it. Just, yeah. From listening to
- 2:46Speaker 1: my mate showing me punk at the skate park and
- 2:49Speaker 1: then having a crack.
- 2:51Speaker 2: Punk at the skate park. I like it. I like it.
- 2:53Speaker 2: It's where all good bands start in Australia, isn't it?
- 2:55Speaker 3: Somewhere in the skate park and wagging is cool.
- 2:58Speaker 1: Yeah, a little bit of that.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Yeah. So you guys are a fairly young outfit.
- 3:02Speaker 3: So what are the age ranges for you guys?
- 3:06Speaker 1: We're not super young.
- 3:07Speaker 2: I'm 28. So, yeah.
- 3:08Speaker 1: And then Drummer is, yeah, he's around that. A little
- 3:15Speaker 1: bit younger. One of our guitar players, he's.
- 3:17Speaker 2: A baby, though.
- 3:18Speaker 1: He's like 20 years old.
- 3:21Speaker 2: But my baby's 20. That's adorable. Yes.
- 3:26Speaker 3: Is that a King Giza shirt that you're wearing?
- 3:30Speaker 2: King Stingray.
- 3:31Speaker 1: King Stingray.
- 3:31Speaker 2: King Stingray.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:34Speaker 2: Just as cool.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Yeah, they're legends. They're from the same community as us.
- 3:38Speaker 2: Yes, yes.
- 3:39Speaker 1: They're good fellas. They are.
- 3:40Speaker 2: So you guys are coming to Big Sound. That must
- 3:43Speaker 2: be exciting.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, we are. We're absolutely stoked to be coming
- 3:45Speaker 1: to Big Sound. We're pretty keen to, A, see the
- 3:49Speaker 1: event itself and the forum and all that, but most
- 3:53Speaker 1: of all we're really keen to just play in Brizzy
- 3:55Speaker 1: because we've never actually played outside of the Northern Territory.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Oh, really? Wow.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Yeah, so we're pretty chuffed about it. We've done heaps
- 4:00Speaker 1: of shows around Arnhem Land and Darwin.
- 4:03Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:04Speaker 1: But we've never made the trek down to Queensland to play.
- 4:08Speaker 3: Oh, well, that's a great opportunity, yeah. And has that
- 4:11Speaker 3: just been timeline or...? Logistics, what's been the.
- 4:16Speaker 1: It's been a mixture of, yeah, timeline, like getting the
- 4:19Speaker 1: stuff together. We've been playing for a little bit, but
- 4:23Speaker 1: we've only really just sort of started to get our
- 4:25Speaker 1: band into a bit of a functioning thing for shows
- 4:29Speaker 1: and everything.
- 4:29Speaker 2: Okay, yeah.
- 4:30Speaker 1: And logistics as well. We live in remote northeast Arnhem Land,
- 4:35Speaker 1: so it's.
- 4:35Speaker 2: Super easy to get there.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Yeah, the flights out of here, the cheapest kind of
- 4:41Speaker 1: way is like, nearly two grand per head so yeah.
- 4:45Speaker 2: That's just one way.
- 4:46Speaker 1: Uh return-ish yeah okay depending on the day yeah.
- 4:51Speaker 3: That's that's so true it's those small connecting flights that
- 4:53Speaker 3: are the problem.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Yeah absolutely or you or we could drive but it's
- 4:57Speaker 1: um 12 hours to darwin on a dirt track for
- 5:02Speaker 1: about eight of those hours you.
- 5:04Speaker 3: Forget how far away it's Yeah, we take for granted,
- 5:07Speaker 3: you know, when we leave where it's very urbanised, it's,
- 5:11Speaker 3: you know, but the 12 hours to drive into Darwin,
- 5:14Speaker 3: that's going to Tannadie shopping.
- 5:16Speaker 2: You take a plane and a drive normally. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 5:18Speaker 1: No, it's good though. It makes it great when you
- 5:21Speaker 1: get out of here because we love it so much,
- 5:23Speaker 1: but it's like really exciting when you go out to
- 5:26Speaker 1: play a show because you're met with things like stoplights.
- 5:29Speaker 1: We don't have stoplights. We don't have any of that
- 5:32Speaker 1: sort of stuff. We don't have Kmart. We don't have Maccas.
- 5:34Speaker 1: We don't have any of that.
- 5:35Speaker 2: Wow.
- 5:37Speaker 1: Yeah, we're just keen to eat good food in Brisbane.
- 5:40Speaker 2: And hang out. Oh, you'll love Brisbane. Brisbane's lovely.
- 5:42Speaker 3: It's just like a big country town. For a city,
- 5:45Speaker 3: it's very small and welcoming. So, yeah, I hope you
- 5:48Speaker 3: guys do have a good experience.
- 5:49Speaker 2: Have you been there before? Is this your first time?
- 5:51Speaker 1: Oh, I have, yeah. I've got family down there now. But, yeah,
- 5:54Speaker 1: just never as a band.
- 5:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:56Speaker 1: Yeah, and we're really lucky. I'm pretty sure everyone in
- 5:59Speaker 1: the band has friends and family there, so we're pretty
- 6:01Speaker 1: stoked about that element and hopefully bring them out to
- 6:04Speaker 1: our big sound sets. Getting a bit rowdy.
- 6:08Speaker 2: Yeah, so we're about to see you guys playing in
- 6:09Speaker 2: Big Sound again.
- 6:10Speaker 1: We're playing at Tomcat on a Tuesday night. Yeah, we're
- 6:15Speaker 1: really keen on that one.
- 6:16Speaker 2: It's a late one.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Yeah, we're playing at 11.30, so it's going to be
- 6:19Speaker 1: the night out.
- 6:21Speaker 2: It's a cool little dive bar. I do enjoy Tomcat.
- 6:23Speaker 1: We've sussed it out. We're really excited for that venue.
- 6:27Speaker 1: And then we're playing on the Thursday at 9.15pm at Rick's.
- 6:32Speaker 2: Oh, okay, nice. Another great venue. Yeah.
- 6:35Speaker 1: Yeah, we're actually stoked. Yeah, we're actually stoked with the
- 6:38Speaker 1: venues and the time slots and that. So thank you,
- 6:41Speaker 1: Big Sound. Thanks for that. Yes.
- 6:42Speaker 2: Cue music, Big Sound, all the goods.
- 6:45Speaker 3: So you guys have lived in NT your whole life
- 6:47Speaker 3: or have you come from other areas?
- 6:49Speaker 2: How have you?
- 6:49Speaker 1: Yeah, I was born here.
- 6:52Speaker 2: Wow.
- 6:53Speaker 1: So, yeah, this is the spot.
- 6:57Speaker 2: It's a lifestyle.
- 6:57Speaker 3: So how do you find, I guess, being what you say,
- 7:00Speaker 3: punk band and musicians, your, I guess, traction would be
- 7:04Speaker 3: a lot of thanks to like online and social media platforms.
- 7:08Speaker 3: Is that how you've sort of exposed yourselves and put
- 7:11Speaker 3: yourselves out there?
- 7:12Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely. I do photography and videography for a living.
- 7:17Speaker 1: So we've really tried to make a lot of stuff
- 7:21Speaker 1: all here in this bedroom. Yeah. The recording, the filming,
- 7:25Speaker 1: the videos and trying to get it out there. But yeah,
- 7:27Speaker 1: predominantly it has been And as of the last couple
- 7:31Speaker 1: of years at Darwin, we've been going to Darwin a lot,
- 7:35Speaker 1: which has been really lucky how we've had a bit
- 7:38Speaker 1: of a reception there with all that crew. They're just
- 7:40Speaker 1: a bunch of legends. They've got a really nifty punk
- 7:43Speaker 1: scene going on there and a rock and roll live shows.
- 7:46Speaker 1: So we've been going there. We were there a few
- 7:48Speaker 1: months ago and we're actually heading back in a couple
- 7:51Speaker 1: of weeks for Darwin Festival to check that out.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Nice, nice.
- 7:54Speaker 3: And for those who may not be aware, Darwin is
- 7:57Speaker 3: a very, big melting pot of a lot of different
- 8:01Speaker 3: cultures and ways of life and people and it's definitely
- 8:05Speaker 3: not what I guess you know most people might expect
- 8:07Speaker 3: or think it's um it's very rich in a lot
- 8:09Speaker 3: of areas so to hear that it's got a really
- 8:11Speaker 3: strong you know um underground scene for metal music and
- 8:15Speaker 3: rock and that kind of then live music scene just
- 8:17Speaker 3: in general is a really kind of it's quite a
- 8:20Speaker 3: healthy response I.
- 8:21Speaker 2: Guess that yeah to do the online stuff and then
- 8:24Speaker 2: go and practice it you know real time.
- 8:27Speaker 1: Absolutely yeah Darwin is and it's expanding ever more as
- 8:31Speaker 1: well Darwin at the moment there's bands like Co coming
- 8:33Speaker 1: out of there and they're like world-class heavy metal band
- 8:36Speaker 1: that have just come out and they're all from darwin
- 8:39Speaker 1: as well you know what's going on here.
- 8:40Speaker 3: Like it's so funny i've seen this documentary once and
- 8:43Speaker 3: i forget who actually had done it but it was
- 8:46Speaker 3: about the young kids on the communities and they had
- 8:50Speaker 3: and they all call them they're part of like groups
- 8:53Speaker 3: but they're all based on like old school like heavy
- 8:55Speaker 3: metal like you know guns and roses metallica and they're
- 8:59Speaker 3: just like oh is.
- 9:00Speaker 2: This what i hear is it Sorry.
- 9:02Speaker 1: Is this what I am?
- 9:04Speaker 2: I think it might be. I don't even know how
- 9:06Speaker 2: I come across a docker. It was bloody awesome. And
- 9:08Speaker 2: I went, holy shit, that is so funny.
- 9:11Speaker 3: And, yeah, these kids, these young Indigenous kids just froth
- 9:15Speaker 3: and love that stuff up.
- 9:16Speaker 2: And it was really cool.
- 9:17Speaker 3: It was kind of the softer side to maybe, you know,
- 9:20Speaker 3: not so a darker side to the story and to
- 9:24Speaker 3: the lifestyle.
- 9:24Speaker 2: But, yeah, that metal, like, softened it all. Yeah. It
- 9:28Speaker 2: was awesome.
- 9:29Speaker 1: Yeah. I think it's great. I think it's a biased
- 9:32Speaker 1: documentary on what I think I've seen that before. It's great.
- 9:35Speaker 1: I think that's so cool that people are making gangs.
- 9:39Speaker 2: Out of metal bands.
- 9:40Speaker 3: I don't want to get cancelled, but, yeah, that was
- 9:43Speaker 3: what I was alluding to, yeah.
- 9:45Speaker 2: But it is, and it was.
- 9:47Speaker 3: Just this beautiful side of, like, that music was that
- 9:49Speaker 3: soft side to them and, you know, heavy metal and, like,
- 9:53Speaker 3: proper old school stuff that there's no way these kids
- 9:55Speaker 3: should even know after these bands.
- 9:56Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 9:57Speaker 1: I think it's a great way to incite musicals.
- 10:00Speaker 2: People.
- 10:00Speaker 1: I think it's cool.
- 10:02Speaker 2: It's the universal language and metal. We always say the
- 10:04Speaker 2: metal heads are the nice ones. So, you know, it's
- 10:06Speaker 2: kind of like living proof. Yeah, that was really cool.
- 10:09Speaker 3: So, yeah, so coming to Big Sound in September for
- 10:13Speaker 3: the first time as a band, which is super exciting,
- 10:16Speaker 3: and got two gigs at Rick's and Tomcat. Who are
- 10:19Speaker 3: you guys hoping to see while you're spending some time
- 10:21Speaker 3: in Brisneyland?
- 10:23Speaker 1: In Brisneyland?
- 10:23Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:25Speaker 1: I really want to check out Indigo Blaze. I hope
- 10:27Speaker 1: we can make it to them. Yes. I've been put
- 10:30Speaker 1: onto them through looking at the Big Sound line-up and
- 10:33Speaker 1: I've been sussing their music. I'm like, this is unbelievable.
- 10:35Speaker 1: This is so good.
- 10:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I think I'm interviewing them tomorrow. So, yeah.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Oh, really? Cool. Yeah. Yeah, I'm really keen to suss
- 10:40Speaker 1: them out.
- 10:41Speaker 2: Oh, cool.
- 10:41Speaker 1: This band, Blinder, that looks epic.
- 10:44Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:45Speaker 1: Really keen to see... I'm assuming it's pronounced L-O-W. They're
- 10:51Speaker 1: playing after us at Rick's Backyard, I believe, and we're
- 10:56Speaker 1: really keen to stick around and watch them.
- 10:58Speaker 2: Yeah. They're playing after you, say, at Rick's Backyard?
- 11:01Speaker 1: I believe so, yeah. I might need to double-check that,
- 11:04Speaker 1: but I was messaging them on Instagram. I was like,
- 11:06Speaker 1: I want to check your band out, man. So, yeah.
- 11:09Speaker 2: Yeah, nice.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Pretty keen to suss them.
- 11:11Speaker 2: Yeah, and Indigo Blaze, they're from Perth. Is that right?
- 11:13Speaker 1: Yeah. I believe so, yeah. I'm very new to their
- 11:16Speaker 1: music but I've just found them through Big Sound and
- 11:18Speaker 1: we've been cranking them like every day. I think they're
- 11:21Speaker 1: just epic. Their riffs are so good and the hip-hop
- 11:25Speaker 1: element is really cool.
- 11:27Speaker 2: Yeah, I love that.
- 11:27Speaker 1: The band around, it's cool. I think it's great music.
- 11:30Speaker 3: Yeah, my two favourite things are hip-hop and metal and
- 11:32Speaker 3: when the two combined, God.
- 11:34Speaker 2: Speak, so to speak. Very much a big fan of that. So, yeah.
- 11:39Speaker 3: So yourself, so with your music, you described like being punk,
- 11:42Speaker 3: sort of like punk alt-rock.
- 11:45Speaker 2: Who were your main influences as a band? Would you
- 11:47Speaker 2: say are?
- 11:48Speaker 3: Well, don't you think you sound like, you know, that
- 11:51Speaker 3: listeners can clock in if they?
- 11:53Speaker 1: Yeah, maybe we're pretty silly. I reckon people that like
- 11:58Speaker 1: Dune Rats might like us. But we also go into
- 12:02Speaker 1: a bit more kind of even violent Soho-y sort of
- 12:05Speaker 1: textures with the music. So, yeah, it's a bit of
- 12:08Speaker 1: a mixed bag because a lot of it's kind of
- 12:10Speaker 1: borderline pub rock. and a lot of it goes into
- 12:13Speaker 1: a bit more, yeah, old, as you said. So, yeah,
- 12:17Speaker 1: probably Dune Rats and Soho, I reckon. Hopefully, I mean,
- 12:20Speaker 1: we aspire to be anywhere near as good as them. But, yeah,
- 12:24Speaker 1: hopefully if you like their music, you like ours.
- 12:26Speaker 2: Yes, yes.
- 12:26Speaker 3: Well, we love both of those, the Dune Rats and
- 12:29Speaker 3: the Violent Soho.
- 12:30Speaker 2: They're our big fans.
- 12:31Speaker 3: We're big fans of those at Heavy, and they've seen
- 12:34Speaker 3: them a few times now, so.
- 12:36Speaker 2: Fingers crossed.
- 12:37Speaker 3: And like, we've got some gut attraction on, you know,
- 12:39Speaker 3: I just say online, which is always, you know, it's
- 12:42Speaker 3: interesting to see bands younger like yourselves using that to
- 12:46Speaker 3: the full advantage. And obviously, you know, location wise for
- 12:49Speaker 3: you guys, it's been sort of the only way that
- 12:51Speaker 3: you can get yourselves out there and getting to then,
- 12:55Speaker 3: you know, like you say, doing that. And then the
- 12:57Speaker 3: live shows, there's a lot of bands out there that,
- 12:59Speaker 3: you know, most people might only ever hear on a,
- 13:01Speaker 3: you know, streaming that don't play live. So, to be
- 13:05Speaker 3: able to incorporate the two and take both hands and run.
- 13:09Speaker 2: That's really awesome.
- 13:09Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:10Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 13:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:11Speaker 1: We try, we try to do that. It's, it's a
- 13:13Speaker 1: hilarious chicken or the egg thing. Cause you're right. So
- 13:16Speaker 1: you have to do the social media stuff, but. we
- 13:19Speaker 1: just want to play live like we're live you know
- 13:22Speaker 1: so it's i'm glad it resonates that way that's cool
- 13:26Speaker 1: yeah hopefully we can get more gigs to make it
- 13:28Speaker 1: a little bit more in the live cool social media court.
- 13:32Speaker 2: You may need to move out of darlin though but.
- 13:34Speaker 1: Yeah yeah but we can't i can never leave arnhem
- 13:36Speaker 1: land oh.
- 13:38Speaker 3: Yeah leave some part of you there but i guess
- 13:40Speaker 3: you know if you're looking at doing that sort of
- 13:41Speaker 3: touring and practicality wise it's um Yeah, just to be
- 13:45Speaker 3: able to tour.
- 13:45Speaker 2: And stuff and, you know, Australia's going to tip like this.
- 13:48Speaker 2: We're all living on the east coast, so. Yeah.
- 13:51Speaker 3: In the southeast. But, yeah, and also, too, like, there are,
- 13:54Speaker 3: you know, bands that have been doing it for some time.
- 13:57Speaker 3: Some of them, I mean, some embrace the new wave
- 14:00Speaker 3: of how music's done, which is great because obviously it
- 14:03Speaker 3: opens up their opportunities and allows for more creativeness, too, which,
- 14:07Speaker 3: you know, I found off the back of COVID a
- 14:08Speaker 3: lot of really cool stuff come out of there and,
- 14:11Speaker 3: were all locked down and didn't have that opportunity. But
- 14:14Speaker 3: you get some that resist it and it's kind of,
- 14:17Speaker 3: you know, they're still doing their thing because, you know,
- 14:19Speaker 3: they have been so well known over the time. But it's,
- 14:21Speaker 3: I don't know if it's going to get to a
- 14:24Speaker 3: point in which, you know, some may say it almost
- 14:26Speaker 3: probably is that you can't have one without the other.
- 14:29Speaker 2: You know, you really.
- 14:29Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's completely accurate. We all the time
- 14:33Speaker 1: are beating ourselves up over how much we don't do
- 14:35Speaker 1: the social media thing because we are very, inclined to
- 14:39Speaker 1: be just that live band and not take a part
- 14:42Speaker 1: of it I don't even have Instagram on my phone
- 14:44Speaker 1: or anything like that it makes me I don't like
- 14:48Speaker 1: it but yeah I think unfortunately it would be a
- 14:52Speaker 1: very hard battle to try to get known without it
- 14:54Speaker 1: now it's just a society.
- 14:56Speaker 3: That we're in I think yeah absolutely and you know
- 14:58Speaker 3: you're we're not selling you know records in your CDs
- 15:00Speaker 3: in a store anymore it's you know how many streams
- 15:02Speaker 3: that you get and you know there's Again, that side
- 15:05Speaker 3: of it too, that some bands don't want to know,
- 15:07Speaker 3: don't care, and then others, like, you know, that's how
- 15:10Speaker 3: they track, you.
- 15:10Speaker 2: Know, their movement and what does make them success.
- 15:14Speaker 3: And the social media stuff and the streaming, like, they
- 15:16Speaker 3: really do go hand in hand because a lot of
- 15:18Speaker 3: it's tracked through those type of platforms anyway.
- 15:20Speaker 2: Yeah, well, it's.
- 15:22Speaker 1: Such a thing nowadays that people, if they're going to
- 15:24Speaker 1: check out even your live show, they go and look
- 15:26Speaker 1: at your Spotify stream. and they use that as a
- 15:29Speaker 1: judge of character, which can actually be great as the
- 15:32Speaker 1: little underdog if you don't have many views and then
- 15:34Speaker 1: you rock it and someone does see the show and
- 15:36Speaker 1: it just blows your head off. I think that's really cool. But, yeah,
- 15:41Speaker 1: it is definitely a struggle to attempt to do it
- 15:44Speaker 1: without it now, unfortunately. But some people might love.
- 15:48Speaker 2: That, you know. Well, there are.
- 15:49Speaker 1: People are consuming art now, so that's cool.
- 15:52Speaker 3: Yeah, it's able to be consumed and created in so
- 15:55Speaker 3: many different ways and that's the thing.
- 15:56Speaker 2: There's so much opportunity.
- 15:58Speaker 3: Artists you have to be able to do their thing
- 15:59Speaker 3: and there's no i see you know say there's used
- 16:02Speaker 3: to be like one set path you know to success
- 16:04Speaker 3: and now there's just so many it's endless and that
- 16:06Speaker 3: i think is really cool you know for artists and
- 16:09Speaker 3: just music in general that you can do it there's
- 16:11Speaker 3: no you don't have to you can put out a
- 16:13Speaker 3: single and i'll put out an album for five years
- 16:14Speaker 3: if you want to you know there's no right or
- 16:16Speaker 3: wrong way to do it anymore everyone's doing what works
- 16:18Speaker 3: for them in whatever moment and i think it's awesome
- 16:22Speaker 3: um i was actually doing an interview um a while
- 16:25Speaker 3: ago now with, I forget, it was a band that
- 16:26Speaker 3: were in the States and were quite well known. I
- 16:28Speaker 3: just remember who it was because I talked to so
- 16:30Speaker 3: many people, I can't remember who. But coming from that
- 16:32Speaker 3: old school, you know, into the new and saying that,
- 16:35Speaker 3: you know, they embrace it because it just means, you know,
- 16:38Speaker 3: more people, tickets to sell at their show. So, you know,
- 16:41Speaker 3: that was a really cool way to sort of look
- 16:43Speaker 3: at that and say, yeah, you know, you can't knock
- 16:46Speaker 3: it out and you can't.
- 16:48Speaker 2: Hide away from it.
- 16:49Speaker 3: But, yeah, definitely those who are like yourselves using it
- 16:52Speaker 3: to their full advantage are the ones that we see
- 16:55Speaker 3: without the ticket sales and the fans at their gigs
- 16:58Speaker 3: and streams on their platform. So exciting stuff. So what
- 17:02Speaker 3: are the plans then after Big Sound over the rest
- 17:04Speaker 3: of the year? Have you guys got an album out
- 17:06Speaker 3: yet or you just got some?
- 17:08Speaker 1: We've got two out. Yeah, we've got two that we've
- 17:10Speaker 1: independently put out.
- 17:11Speaker 2: Yeah, nice.
- 17:13Speaker 1: We're focusing on singles now. We've got two that we've
- 17:17Speaker 1: just finished. We're going to drop one before Big Sound.
- 17:21Speaker 2: Yeah, cool.
- 17:21Speaker 1: Yeah, I haven't announced that yet, but I'm actually looking
- 17:24Speaker 1: at dropping that on August 14th, I think.
- 17:28Speaker 2: I heard it here first.
- 17:30Speaker 1: Yeah, it's actually getting a lot heavier. So, yeah, we're
- 17:35Speaker 1: just going to make heavy stuff now because all our
- 17:36Speaker 1: live shows have just been. So we're like, yeah, this
- 17:41Speaker 1: is what we like. So we're going to go with that.
- 17:43Speaker 2: Old school crowd surfing. Yeah. Yeah.
- 17:46Speaker 1: So we'll drop a single before Big Sound. And then
- 17:49Speaker 1: after Big Sound, we've got another one that we're going
- 17:52Speaker 1: to chuck out. pretty quickly after that and then from
- 17:56Speaker 1: there no immediate plans for shows for like we were
- 17:59Speaker 1: speaking about before it is a bit of a struggle
- 18:01Speaker 1: to get out of Arnhem Land financially to tour and
- 18:04Speaker 1: that so yeah we we just need some more opportunities
- 18:07Speaker 1: to come up and we'll jump right at them so
- 18:09Speaker 1: yeah anything yeah.
- 18:11Speaker 3: And I guess too like having that time afterwards it
- 18:13Speaker 3: would be a good time for you to sit down
- 18:15Speaker 3: and like digress and go through you know how it
- 18:17Speaker 3: was and what worked and like what you'd like to
- 18:19Speaker 3: maybe do different you've got that space to sort of
- 18:21Speaker 3: really focus and plan that out but um I guess
- 18:24Speaker 3: you guys had to organise all your merch too. So
- 18:26Speaker 3: live gigs and merch, they're two ways. You can make
- 18:28Speaker 3: that money so you can do more. So, yeah, you're
- 18:30Speaker 3: taking some merch over with you when you come?
- 18:33Speaker 1: Yeah, definitely. Yeah, we've been stoked with the response that
- 18:35Speaker 1: our merch has had with people. It blows us away
- 18:39Speaker 1: how many people will cop it and we see wearing
- 18:41Speaker 1: them around town or even in Darwin and that.
- 18:43Speaker 2: That's so cool.
- 18:45Speaker 1: Yeah, and it's all on our website. A little hyperlink
- 18:48Speaker 1: thing in our Instagram if anyone wants to.
- 18:50Speaker 2: Buy a t-shirt or a record. Yeah, that little thing, yeah,
- 18:54Speaker 2: the little magic box. So, yeah, check them out, guys, Murtis.
- 18:59Speaker 3: We're keen to get a hold of you and see
- 19:01Speaker 3: you live in action and become big sound in September.
- 19:04Speaker 3: So go and show them some love over on their
- 19:06Speaker 3: socials and let them know what you think. And hopefully
- 19:10Speaker 3: we'll see some more of you guys after the festival
- 19:12Speaker 3: and come back down this way soon.
- 19:15Speaker 1: Absolutely.
- 19:16Speaker 2: We'll put you on a really long rope and anchor
- 19:18Speaker 2: out of Darwin and we'll just like anchor you to
- 19:19Speaker 2: the end.
- 19:20Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, we'll jump on. Yeah, we'll hold on tight.
- 19:22Speaker 1: We'll get there.
- 19:23Speaker 2: Yeah, a retractable lead.
- 19:25Speaker 1: Yeah, no, thank you, Heavy Mag people. This is sick.
- 19:29Speaker 2: Thank you, Matt.
- 19:30Speaker 3: It's been an absolute pleasure chatting with you and congratulations
- 19:33Speaker 3: on Big Sound and all the rest and your new
- 19:35Speaker 3: album and on your single, sorry, and look forward to
- 19:38Speaker 3: catching you guys at the festival.
- 19:40Speaker 1: Thanks so much. Thank you very much.
- 19:42Speaker 2: No worries. You take care. See you.
- 19:44Speaker 1: You too, eh?
- 19:45Speaker 2: Bye-bye.
