- 0:00Has your doctor or endocrinologist told you, quote, we don't know what causes Hashimoto's, unquote?
- 0:06They told you that before? Have you heard that before? That's what we're going
- 0:09to talk about on today's short episode of Health with Hashimoto's.
- 0:13So during the summer, I am attempting to do a short series where every single
- 0:17episode is between seven and 10 minutes.
- 0:20A couple of them have gone a couple seconds over 10 minutes.
- 0:22So I'm really meeting my goal of seven to 10 minutes.
- 0:26I'm pretty proud of myself. I wasn't sure if I could stay under 10 minutes and
- 0:30just going a couple of seconds over in a couple, I'm okay with that.
- 0:33If we haven't met before, my name is Esther. I am a registered nurse and I specialize
- 0:38in Hashimoto's, specifically helping you discover a simple and sustainable solutions
- 0:44so that you can figure out how to have better health.
- 0:47And I have a path to health with Hashimoto's that we're going to talk about later in this episode.
- 0:52But this specific comment came to me in a direct message, and they said that's
- 0:58what her endocrinologist had told her.
- 0:59We don't know what causes Hashimoto's.
- 1:02And I would kind of agree and kind of disagree with this endocrinologist.
- 1:06Now, obviously, the endocrinologist is a specialist.
- 1:10They have gone to more school than I have. I went to four years of school to
- 1:15become a registered nurse, and then I went back to school for two more years
- 1:19for holistic health education.
- 1:21Also, I have a lot of learning under my belt, both in the emergency department
- 1:25and then on my own so that I can help you.
- 1:28The endocrinologist went to school for a lot more years to become a doctor and
- 1:33then to specialize in hormones, which is what endocrinologists specialize in.
- 1:38So he or she has a lot of knowledge behind that answer.
- 1:43And the reason why I would agree with the endocrinologist in that we don't know
- 1:48what causes Hashimoto's is because Western medicine wants exactly one cause for one disease.
- 1:56And if we don't have one cause for one disease, then they say we don't know, typically.
- 2:01For example, the breast cancer gene. Now they can, quote, know what causes breast
- 2:08cancer because we have some genes to link it back to.
- 2:11There's two different genes and they're abbreviated BRCA. There's BRCA1 and
- 2:16BRCA2. People can get tested for that.
- 2:19Now, it's not 100% that if you have those genes, you're going to have breast
- 2:22cancer. it's not 100% that if you don't have those genes, you're not going to have breast cancer.
- 2:27But we know that those genes are directly related to breast cancer,
- 2:33and they do increase your risk of getting breast cancer if you have those genes.
- 2:37And then of course, there's a lot of other scenarios in Western medicine where,
- 2:42you know, we have vaccines for different things.
- 2:45Like you're going to get, I don't know, MMR so that you don't get measles, mumps, and rubella.
- 2:51Now there's a lot lot of different paths that we could go on for a vaccine topic,
- 2:56and I'm not going to, I'm just saying they like to have a specific cause so
- 3:02that they can have a specific treatment so that they can market it to you and
- 3:06also to keep you healthy.
- 3:08There are people who really, really want to help you be healthier.
- 3:11There are also people in Western medicine who really want to make a lot of money and are very good at it.
- 3:17So in Western medicine, they want one cause for one disease and Hashimoto's does not have one cause.
- 3:24So can we say that we know what causes Hashimoto's in that scenario? No.
- 3:31We know there's a genetic component to Hashimoto's. To my knowledge,
- 3:34they have not isolated the specific gene and can test for it,
- 3:38but you can see it run in families.
- 3:40So we know that there's a genetic component. And if you have downloaded step
- 3:45one in your path to health with Hashimoto's, step one is 10 thyroid questions
- 3:50to ask your doctor. It's the first part of Hashimoto's Decoded.
- 3:53Question number two to ask your doctor is what caused my diagnosis?
- 3:57Because a diagnosis is helpful and it determines your treatment plan,
- 4:01but the diagnosis is not the whole picture.
- 4:04And I even say in the explanation about number two is your provider may not
- 4:10know the answer to this question. In fact, they probably will not.
- 4:13It usually takes some digging to get to your root causes.
- 4:17And that is why I have provided Hashimoto's Decoded Part Two.
- 4:22Part part two or step two on your path to health with Hashimoto's is Hashimoto's decoded root causes.
- 4:29So step one is Hashimoto's decoded 10 questions for your doctor.
- 4:34And then step two is the root causes.
- 4:37Root causes is really what you want to figure out.
- 4:40And I feel like when the endocrinologist says we don't know what causes Hashimoto's,
- 4:46they're saying there isn't one specific thing.
- 4:48What I'm saying is we know and we have identified a bunch of different root
- 4:54causes, and it's your job to figure out which ones apply to you based on your health history,
- 5:01based on what you know about your own life and your own situation.
- 5:05A couple of weeks ago, I was serving at a Bible camp as their camp nurse, and it was really fun.
- 5:10But I was talking to one of the kids about out migraines. And I mentioned to
- 5:14him that when I was logging my migraines, I didn't find that there was one single trigger.
- 5:20For me, my migraines came when there were three different things kind of coming together.
- 5:27And that was a lack of sleep, increased sugar, increased or any gluten, and poor posture.
- 5:34Now, if you were counting, those are four things.
- 5:36I didn't need all four. I just needed three of them and it could be any three.
- 5:41I noticed that as I was tracking my migraines, when I had any three of those
- 5:46four, I would get a migraine, but it didn't have to always be the same three.
- 5:50And you know what? That made it really hard to pin down my triggers.
- 5:54It took a long time to figure out, oh, it's this combination or it's this scenario.
- 6:00It can be the same thing for you. We know that there are a bunch of identified
- 6:05root causes and triggers.
- 6:07And then it's your job to look at them and say, well, these specific ones apply
- 6:12to me and my situation. It's not.
- 6:16One-size-fits-all. And that's the really hard thing about autoimmune problems,
- 6:20because it's not a one-size-fits-all.
- 6:23It's not a one-solution-fits-all.
- 6:25It's a figure out what's going on in your life, and then figure out how to address that.
- 6:31That is the goal. We want to address what's going on in your specific situation
- 6:37so that you can get the answers, and you can get the results that you want.
- 6:42And that is why I created the Path to Health with Hashimoto's.
- 6:46Three steps so that you can get your exact answers.
- 6:51Like I said, step one on that path is Hashimoto's Decoded, 10 Questions to Ask Your Doctor.
- 6:57Step two on that path is Hashimoto's Decoded, The Root Causes,
- 7:01so you can figure out what contributed to you getting Hashimoto's. Now, is this 100%?
- 7:07No, this is based on what you are reflecting on.
- 7:11And it's not a like, I can't give you an A and say, yep, you exactly figured it out.
- 7:16There's always some subjectiveness in this and figuring it out.
- 7:21But you don't need a bunch of expensive tests.
- 7:24Just go through that. It's a $7 course right now. The Hashimoto's Decoded Root Causes.
- 7:31Super simple. Figure out your root causes. And then step three is the holistic Hashimoto's course.
- 7:38And that is where you're going to figure out exactly what to do.
- 7:41I'm going to shortcut your time and your energy. I'm going to take away a lot
- 7:47of the like throw spaghetti at the wall, the trial and error.
- 7:51Like one person I talked to, she said, I just keep trying over and over and over.
- 7:56I have so much error in trying to figure out what's going on until I finally got to some solutions.
- 8:02She had wasted so much time and I don't want you to waste all that time and energy.
- 8:07So that is why I created the holistic Hashimoto's course.
- 8:11So was that endocrinologist correct? Do we know what causes Hashimoto's?
- 8:15They said no. And I say, well, kind of. You can go through that path,
- 8:21step one, step two, step three, and you can get answers for yourself and figure
- 8:27out some solutions for yourself.
- 8:30And that is what really matters in the end.
- 8:33So drop below in the show notes and there will be links to the app,
- 8:37the Health with Hashimoto's app.
- 8:38You can find all three steps in there, or you can just do step one, which is down below.
- 8:44And then of course I will send you an email and then you can go to step two.
- 8:48And then after step two, you would check your email and go to step three.
- 8:51I look forward to seeing you along the path to health with Hashimoto's.
