- 1:38[SPEAKER_02]: That's me Kyle Meredith.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_02]: Today my guess is actor Pearson Foday.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_02]: Now it was only a little bit of go.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_02]: That that I had the cast of the wrong Paris on here.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_02]: Most of the cast.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_02]: I did not have Pearson.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_02]: And so now it's nice that he drops by although we're not actually talking about the wrong Paris.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_02]: He's got another movie.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_02]: In fact, he's got four movies out this year.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_02]: Like it's happening for him.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_02]: His latest is a new Netflix holiday romcom called a Merry Little Ex-Miss where he stars alongside
- 2:08[SPEAKER_02]: Oliver Hudson, Melissa Joan Hart, Jamila Jamil.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_02]: And Pearson and I are going to dive into embracing his shirtless slow-mo guy reputation.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_02]: The art of balancing humor and self-awareness and Christmas movies and what makes Netflix seasonal films so addictive.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_02]: He'll also talk about this breakout year, juggling multiple projects, his activism work, his Washington family farm roots, and shooting the upcoming The Last Misses Parish with Robert Zemeckis and Jennifer Lopez.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_02]: It'll be all of that cinema a lot more as we dig into a married little ex-mus it's Kyle Meredith with Pearson Foday love your backdrop man.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_02]: This is fantastic.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_02]: It's a whole lot more exciting to look at than just me and not come on keep the heroes there let them do all the heavy lifting That's a great way to look at it.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_02]: I do the same thing man.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, that's nice what you got behind you there.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_02]: It's, you know, a little humble brags, I think.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you know what keeps me inspired during the day.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, hey, I've done something.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_01]: I've done something that meant something to someone, so I'll take it.
- 3:11[SPEAKER_02]: No, that can keep you inspired, but that can go the other way as well, right?
- 3:13[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I've done something.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_02]: I don't need to do anything today.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to take a nap actually.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_02]: a merry little ex-mus, your newest.
- 3:23[SPEAKER_02]: I thought, surely by this point, they had run out of titles for Christmas movies and they just found another one.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_01]: So, they keep cranking them out and boy, they'll, they'll, they'll manage a title together anyway they can.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_02]: used to be like you could strive to be like you know a Christmas card maker to come up with this stuff but I think it's that if you can if you can still do the Christmas movies at this point it likes that's a new career right there absolutely absolutely it has a pace of bells congrats on it though this is such a fun little movie too that you guys have done here and and even before I get into that you're year I mean it really seems like something's happening here like
- 4:05[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, is that perception or is that the real thing that I think that is the real thing, you know, I think perception is reality, but also like it's been such a great year, especially coming out of the pandemic and then coming off of the strikes, you know, I push my team and I push myself really, really hard to like,
- 4:24[SPEAKER_01]: Let's not go back.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_01]: Let's move forward with an absolute conquering mindset of, let's take over.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_01]: Let's do the best that we possibly can and it's paid off.
- 4:36[SPEAKER_01]: This is my third movie that came out this year, fourth.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_01]: fourth movie and then you know we're still waiting for distribution on one more and so like it's just it's incredible And I'm shooting with Bob's a mech is right now like I couldn't be You know I'm pinching myself on set every day.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just like Bobi I love you so much literally.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_01]: I was just at the IMAX screening of the 40th anniversary of back to the future I'm doing that with my son right after we get off of this by the way.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, that's what I'm doing so good.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah
- 5:04[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and that's what I mean like to be in that position because you've been a working actor now for quite a while Yeah, and that's how the story goes, right?
- 5:13[SPEAKER_02]: Like like you do the work and you build towards something and then if the star is aligned It's all at once is usually that all at once that you're the overnight success, right?
- 5:22[SPEAKER_01]: That's yeah, it takes 15 years to become an overnight success.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_01]: That's the that's the great beauty of all of it
- 5:29[SPEAKER_02]: But it is interesting too because, you know, even to get to the point where you can make the choices.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_02]: Like, like, you've got different roles happening here, but of course, I also did some interviews not with you, but with the wrong Paris, the cast of that too.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_02]: And seeing you in that, and seeing you in this, and this hunky role.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_02]: that like even that like is that a choice you make at some point to say you know what if I beef up even more than I am that's going to open all these doors is that part of that strategy?
- 6:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah I think so I think there's you know there's certainly a fine line of getting two beefed up and staying lean and then getting two lean and not beefed up enough because you know you want to like for instance you know of course I'm just going to point myself so like then
- 6:12[SPEAKER_01]: the no-kissless back here.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_01]: That was like 14, 13 years ago, something like that.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_01]: And that when I was still kind of in my modeling weight, I was 180 pounds, and I was lean, green machine, and then all of
- 6:27[SPEAKER_01]: And that's 13 years apart, so you got some time to put on some size.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, I think you have to be aware of the medium that you're trying to get into.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_01]: And then also the audience that you're trying to cater to, you know, and that I use my body is kind of the template for, hey, this is how I want the character to be perceived, especially if I'm shirtless, you know, I'm going to be hopefully in a slow, remote, remote moment that goes viral.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_02]: That's the moment in both of these movies right there, too.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_01]: This and Mary Lilac's misses some good slow-mo.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's a...
- 7:01[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's going to be my title from here on out.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_01]: Sure, let's slow-mo guy.
- 7:04[SPEAKER_02]: That's it?
- 7:05[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_02]: That's all you need.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_02]: That's all.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_01]: That's all.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_01]: That's all.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_02]: That's all.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_02]: That's the work for you.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_02]: That's simple.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_02]: It pays the bills, let me tell you.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_02]: I imagine it does, and it's working for you, and I don't know what you're doing with Zemeckis.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_02]: I sort of don't expect that that's what you're doing with Zemeckis, but...
- 7:21[SPEAKER_01]: Very, very different.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_01]: Right, it's a very cool role, though, let me tell you.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_01]: I, it's so much fun, but yeah, it is very different from the other roles that I've been doing.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_02]: And that's the important part is what I'm getting to.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_02]: It's like, it's not that you're just shirtless, slow-mo guy.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and it's one of those things where it's like you build up an audience in a certain way and then you give them something new, you know, surprise them with something different and I think that's that's what we've been able to do in a complex and I've been I've been really blessed man, you know, I've worked my ass off for so long and, you know, this is a this is a moment that I got a chance to perform in front of as a mechus and he liked what I had to offer and, you know, I booked it and that's that I think that's the key is like
- 8:08[SPEAKER_02]: And I know we probably can't say much about it, but the title is out there.
- 8:10[SPEAKER_02]: The last Mrs. Parrish is at risk.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_02]: Just so we know we're looking for eventually.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_01]: Me, Jennifer Lopez, Nicolai, Costa Waldo, Debbie Mason.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_02]: So that line on there, or that name on there too, like that's the cool cast.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_02]: And we'll be right back right after this.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_02]: Welcome back.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_02]: It's Kyle Meredith with Pearson Foday.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_02]: and speaking of and and for marry the lexmus I mean what a cool cast oh my god yeah I like what it is you still restone Melissa Joan Hart among others I mean that's like I said to kind of come into this and let's talk about this because you're character by the way he's fun like these lines have got to be
- 8:50[SPEAKER_02]: a lot of fun when you get it because he, like, total puppy dog energy, right?
- 8:55[SPEAKER_02]: Yep.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_02]: Yep.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_01]: I had a blast, man.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_01]: Like, and puppy dog energy is correct.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_01]: Like, that was kind of my motto for check the entire time was like, he's a golden retriever.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_01]: He's happy everywhere he goes in the present moment.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_01]: He is, he is there for you.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_01]: No matter where you're at, he'll be there for you.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_01]: and he's happy.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_01]: Like, even if the worst thing is happening, which you can see many times does happen, he's just like, oh, this is great.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_01]: You know, we'll find a way out of it.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_01]: No big deal.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_01]: That's all good.
- 9:22[SPEAKER_01]: Was it like that on paper?
- 9:23[SPEAKER_01]: Is that something you actually built from the script?
- 9:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you know, there was moments of it on paper.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_01]: We went through a lot of drafts in the beginning.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_01]: I remember the character was kind of different.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_01]: He was a little bit more supposed to be
- 9:37[SPEAKER_01]: Steve had done some rewrites, our director, and Netflix had given some rewrites, and so there's that the writer had been rewriting stuff, and so we were really finding the character kind of as we went, and the more we found it, the more I was able to improvise and play off of stuff, and Steve let me run wild as often as possible, and Netflix was really happy with the product that was coming back, and so there's so many times where we'd just be throwing lines out.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_01]: You know, because of the base that we have with the script and what the writer's gave us, it gives us the opportunity to play in that sandbox.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_01]: And so we really developed chat as we were shooting quite often.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_02]: The big boblowski.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_01]: Is that the, oh yeah, big loplowski.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, big, that's it.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_02]: That's right.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_01]: That one was written.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_01]: That was their thing.
- 10:24[SPEAKER_02]: That was real.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_02]: It feels like it could have been improv.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_01]: There's a possibility it maybe it was.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_01]: No, it's probably written.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_01]: I don't want to say credit for that.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_02]: But it is fun because I was joking about the title at the beginning and it's fun title.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_02]: But it's also like the Christmas genre, right?
- 10:43[SPEAKER_02]: When it became a genre, a handful of years ago, to the point where very quickly the cliche started happening and you have to buy into it and also be ready for some self awareness.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_02]: At least that's my perception.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_02]: There's both of those that goes on in this movie.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_02]: Like when you're signing up for it, you sort of know what you're getting into?
- 11:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you know, I think with specifically like the Christmas genre and I think Netflix has done a really good job of like kind of hauling out their niche for it because they do so many in a year.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_01]: And they also do so well on cater to an audience around the world.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_01]: I think they've found their perfect niche of it.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, I think you go in aware of the medium and the playground that you're playing inside of.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_01]: And then you're able to kind of expand off of that and try to do things that maybe somebody else hasn't done before.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_01]: Not take yourself seriously.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that that was one of the fun things that I got to do a chat and it's.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_01]: kind of one of my favorite things like when I'm not number one on a call sheet like get to be the guy where it's like I get to kind of take all the chances and there's no pressure on me to do it and I love it so much because it's like you can always just cut that out and they're like yeah that's good point and I was like just cut out whatever you don't like go for it
- 11:56[SPEAKER_01]: And so, yeah, there's a lot of fun and lightness that I really enjoy with movies like this.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_02]: Like I said, there's some self-awareness there too, because you talk about the rules of a Christmas movie, because there's sort of rules, right?
- 12:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, there's definitely like, you know, don't do anything that's like our rated, don't do anything that's like going to upset children on Christmas.
- 12:16[SPEAKER_01]: You know, just the little simple things try to keep a positive spirit about the whole thing.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_01]: We're gonna have a happy ending.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_01]: Happy ending.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_01]: We always need a happy ending.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_01]: I also think that's necessary for the kind of the climate we're in with so many things in life where it's like, hey, go outside, touch grass.
- 12:31[SPEAKER_01]: Watch your Christmas movie.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, it'll all be okay.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_01]: We're all gonna survive this.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_01]: It's gonna be good, you know?
- 12:36[SPEAKER_01]: Life is okay if you just enjoy yourself a little bit.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_01]: Step off the social media and bye.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_02]: You get into that a bit too.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_02]: Like there's an activism part of your life, right?
- 12:46[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, there has been in the past at least as that's still as much.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, very much.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_01]: So, I'm pretty involved with our family farm back home in Washington State.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_01]: I went back there during the strike and I helped my dad buck bales across Washington to different equestrian farms.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_01]: Oddly enough, we delivered some to the same equestrian farms that we shot the wrong paris at.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_01]: I wrote the same horse that was raised in the town.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_01]: I grew up in.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_01]: You know, and then also, you know, next next, we've got, I don't know if I'm fully allowed to say this, so we're going to, it's going to be okay.
- 13:18[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to Washington, DC, to do a World War II honoring of the veterans that are still alive.
- 13:24[SPEAKER_01]: And like Tom Cruise has done this before, and Glenn Powell did it, and I think it's a really special thing that we get to do to like,
- 13:30[SPEAKER_01]: honor the people that came before us that set up the country that we live in that, you know, perfect or imperfect, it's this thing that these people put their lives on the line and I think that's really important that we remember that.
- 13:41[SPEAKER_01]: My grandfather was in the army and I think that's it's awesome that I get to remember that.
- 13:45[SPEAKER_01]: I have so many friends that are still in the Marines, it's still in the army, still in the Navy and the Air Force and it's I want them to know that I'm in full support of them, you know.
- 13:53[SPEAKER_02]: I love that.
- 13:54[SPEAKER_02]: I've got
- 13:55[SPEAKER_02]: two nephews that are following in their dad's footsteps right now.
- 13:59[SPEAKER_02]: I'll think of the army so I actually seeing them kind of start with the RO2C and go on.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_02]: It's important, man.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_02]: You know, that's a noble thing that they do.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_02]: Well, it's great that it's a noble thing that you're doing, too, to actually see the time for that.
- 14:13[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's really cool and it's a special thing and, you know, telling stories is a awesome way that we get to entertain and hopefully get the world a little bit of respite and inspire people to hopefully be better, do a little bit better and also just take a break, you know, it's okay.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_02]: And we'll be right back right after this.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_02]: Welcome back.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_02]: It's Kyle Meredith with Pearson Foday.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_02]: Jumping off a laughing point a minute ago too because you know, you're talking about the family farm and everything which you grew up on.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_02]: And you mentioned this stuff behind me because as I was prepping for this, I was thinking like, I can't, like I live in the world of music.
- 14:52[SPEAKER_02]: I run a radio station here in Louis FBK and I thought, I can't pin point.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_02]: your lane because you got the farm thing and cliche stereotype like maybe send the country music but then there's Washington state like nope that throws that part out right there banana and food fighters you know we got it all yeah like you're a you know film buff growing up and everything and a lot of times like well that since people towards musicals but that doesn't exactly seem like you know that's no yeah like what was if if you had any like what was
- 15:26[SPEAKER_02]: maybe the most important show that you went to in high school.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_01]: Show as in like a concert.
- 15:33[SPEAKER_01]: A concert.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_01]: That's a really good question.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I was raised, I was homeschooled up until like freshman or sophomore year and I went to like our college at the same time.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_01]: So I didn't really go to a whole lot of concerts.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_01]: I remember
- 15:51[SPEAKER_01]: I think we saw the news boys.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_01]: If I'm not mistaken, I see the news boys plenty back there.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that was that was something that was really cool DC talk back in the day, you know, that those were shows that were really epic and exciting for me and
- 16:08[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I think to this day now my favorite show of all time is seeing Hans Zimmer live, like that was, that's the pinnacle of my concert going experience.
- 16:16[SPEAKER_02]: But that would be incredible.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_02]: I've never seen any of the scoring guys do their, the live shows.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_02]: And I've always thought that would be, because Trent resident tried to do a whole festival this year with nothing but the folks that scored, you know, that was the really.
- 16:29[SPEAKER_02]: And then it fell apart and my guess was that it was people's schedules just changed so often like how are you gonna do that anyway?
- 16:36[SPEAKER_01]: That's gotta be super hard.
- 16:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 16:37[SPEAKER_01]: Oh my god.
- 16:38[SPEAKER_01]: I would have loved to have gone to that.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_01]: That would have been because I was emotional at the Hans Zimmer thing And I don't really get emotional at a lot of shows, but like that's just that's the peak, you know.
- 16:47[UNKNOWN]: Yeah
- 16:47[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, that's interesting.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_02]: All right, you've sent me in different ways now.
- 16:51[SPEAKER_02]: So it's a joy that's fun, that's fun.
- 16:55[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, you know what, here's a good one.
- 16:57[SPEAKER_01]: I just saw my buddy Josh Dunn had the 21 pilot show here in LA.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_01]: And that was phenomenal.
- 17:04[SPEAKER_01]: He and Debbie are,
- 17:05[SPEAKER_01]: my best friends from back in the Jesse days, and man, they crush it.
- 17:10[SPEAKER_01]: They put on an incredible show.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_01]: That's probably if I had to pick a favorite rock and roll genre show that I've ever seen as theirs.
- 17:20[SPEAKER_02]: They're great.
- 17:21[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 17:21[SPEAKER_02]: I had them on the show 10, 12 years ago, or whatever.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 17:26[SPEAKER_02]: And it's still one of my favorite interviews I've ever done.
