- 0:00dude, these Dursleys need to be on Super Nanny.
- 0:03Yeah.
- 0:04That would be such an incredible show.
- 0:05Or like, Wife Swab with King Curtis.
- 0:07Like the wife swap? Dudley is King Curtis,
- 0:10Hello and welcome back to Inside Quotes Book Club,
- 0:12the show where my brother and I read some books.
- 0:15But more specifically, we read books that turn into movies.
- 0:19We are currently covering the first Harry Potter book,
- 0:22one chapter per week, with intentions of prepping for the new HBO show coming this
- 0:26Christmas. I'm your host Jeremy,
- 0:28and with me today is my older brother Jonathan.
- 0:31Jonathan, what you been reading lately?
- 0:34Hey Jeremy, you know what I've been reading lately?
- 0:36Lego instructions. All right.
- 0:38Really?
- 0:39I
- 0:39got this little ~ pack of Harry Potter Legos from ~ Kelsey's
- 0:42Okay
- 0:43mom and I was like now's the perfect time to put together.
- 0:46Is this technically
- 0:47fan mail?
- 0:48Yeah, I yeah, I guess it's fan mail,
- 0:50yeah. And I I got like a
- 0:50Yeah.
- 0:51little, you know, Harry Potter minifig here.
- 0:53I got ~ Albus Dumbledore's
- 0:53Let's go!
- 0:57desk here with a sorting hat, mind you.
- 0:58that's cool, that's cool. Nice.
- 0:59You know? It's just
- 1:01like a little you know little mini set,
- 1:03you know. I but I I I
- 1:04Little miniset just to get your Lego fix.
- 1:07think you were referring to this book right here,
- 1:09Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.
- 1:11That particular Harry Potter book,
- 1:11Mhm. Yeah.
- 1:13yes.
- 1:15Mine's a hardback edition, but you know,
- 1:18who's counting?
- 1:19Well, Jeremy, chapter three, The Letters from No One.
- 1:22What what did you think of the chapter?
- 1:23Ooh, letters from no one. Well,
- 1:26first of all, who is no one and why are they sending me letters?
- 1:32You've been getting letters?
- 1:32No, not really. I wish if you want to send me a letter you can do that
- 1:37in a comment form down below Just say hey Good takes on this chapter that you're
- 1:43reading right now and then I'll be like Thanks
- 1:47~ so yeah the letters from no one we are
- 1:53on chapter three Do we want to do a little recap of what we've already?
- 1:58Like for you know, it's been a week already since
- 2:01the last people have watched. like,
- 2:04should we do a recap of last week's chapter?
- 2:07Last time on Harry Potter.
- 2:09Ooh, sounds like you were prepared for that.
- 2:12I I'm very much not, but
- 2:15Okay.
- 2:17well, last time on Harry Potter,
- 2:19~ it was the Vanishing Glass where Harry and the Dursleys go to the
- 2:24zoo for Dudley's birthday and some hilarity pretty much ensues.
- 2:29~ and then he gets punished and that's pretty much where we're at at this point.
- 2:34so yeah,
- 2:37I've got my-
- 2:39Finally, didn't write my notes in the car,
- 2:41so I can actually read my notes this time.
- 2:43Okay, this should be good then.
- 2:46But Jonathan, do you have a chapter summary for this particular chapter?
- 2:51Yeah. Mm-hmm. So for chapter three,
- 2:54The Letters from No One. Harry begins receiving mysterious letters addressed
- 2:58specifically to him. Uncle Vernon refuses to let Harry read them
- 3:02and becomes increasingly desperate to prevent the letters from reaching him.
- 3:06As more and more letters arrive,
- 3:08the family tries moving from place to place to escape them.
- 3:10Eventually, hundreds of letters pour into the house through every possible opening.
- 3:16On Harry's eleventh birthday, the family retreats to a miserable shack
- 3:19on a small island, hoping they have finally escaped the mysterious letters.
- 3:25Clarity ensues
- 3:26Clarity ensues.
- 3:29This is an action-packed chapter.
- 3:30It is full of just chaos and craziness But also it's
- 3:35This
- 3:35just at the end of the day. It's just like Harry getting mail ~
- 3:42This is like the madness of Uncle Vernon,
- 3:44this chapter. Just like
- 3:46This is a great, it's a very entertaining chapter to read,
- 3:49I would say.
- 3:51I think, I hope the show really buys into the craziness of Uncle Vernon,
- 3:57because like, he's sitting here like,
- 3:59sleeping on the floor in front of his door so that Harry can't get his mail.
- 4:04And more, we'll dive deeper into it.
- 4:07But yeah, it's so funny and there's a lot of potential here for the show.
- 4:12And I really hope it's shown.
- 4:16So, but yeah, this is a exciting chapter because at first we've kind
- 4:20of like the first chapter is just introduction to Harry
- 4:27as a baby and what happened. Basically Harry's not even in that chapter,
- 4:31but then the second chapter is actually this is Harry now he's 10 years old.
- 4:35His life sucks, but now there's a little bit of hope or just a little
- 4:42bit of creepiness because he has no idea what's going on.
- 4:46And somehow people are like stalking him,
- 4:48sending him mail. So let's find out.
- 4:51There's a whole mystery and a whole nother world knocking on his door.
- 4:56So shall we dive into this chapter?
- 5:01Let's dive in.
- 5:03So immediately I am...
- 5:10guess I should pick it up. So immediately I am shown
- 5:15the chapter art here. Classic chapter art.
- 5:20It's solid. is a bunch of, for those not watching our video,
- 5:25it is a mantelpiece, a chimney fireplace with hundreds of letters flying
- 5:32out of it. And then you've got pictures of the family with Dudley's image.
- 5:38as like the biggest because he's the most important on the mantle.
- 5:39The mantle. Yeah. Mm-hmm.
- 5:41Yeah.
- 5:42What did I say?
- 5:44I was just he didn't say anything.
- 5:47I was just saying
- 5:47okay. Okay. I thought I said it wrong.
- 5:51Anyways, it's so funny. I love the image of this and it's,
- 5:55I can't help but think of the hundreds of owls on the roof at this moment,
- 6:00either waiting in line or just simultaneously swooping in one at a time.
- 6:04Like it's a, like a fighter jet or something like that.
- 6:07Yeah. Well let's let's talk
- 6:09about that. Did owls deliver these letters?
- 6:12Did owls deliver these letters?
- 6:14That's what I- that's what the movie led me to believe because there's hundreds
- 6:14Yeah. I the the movie does yeah,
- 6:20of owls.
- 6:21they're like they're all perched outside.
- 6:23Do you see ~ like flying swooping through Privet Drive.
- 6:27But in the book here, I don't think it actually mentions them seeing any
- 6:31Really?
- 6:32owls actually. Now the it's definitely like,
- 6:35you know, magic is involved because,
- 6:38yeah
- 6:38you
- 6:39know, they just keep coming, you know,
- 6:41and it just keeps escalating. But
- 6:45It doesn't actually say anything about like,
- 6:47an owl delivered it on their doorstep.
- 6:49It's actually coming through like the regular post,
- 6:52actually. Which is kinda weird.
- 6:53Really?
- 6:54Yeah.
- 6:55Or is an owl dropping it through the post box?
- 6:59Whatever it's called.
- 7:01I mean it could be. It's it's
- 7:03We've been poisoned by the movies.
- 7:05it's there with all the other like whenever he gets his first letter,
- 7:08right? It's like there with some other stuff.
- 7:10Yeah, yeah.
- 7:10Something from Aunt Marge, you know you know,
- 7:13whatever. So he picks it up with the regular mail.
- 7:14You can't help but think, okay.
- 7:16Wow.
- 7:18So I feel like that could be a difference in how they portray that in the HBO show.
- 7:22That changes
- 7:23one or two of my notes at least
- 7:25throughout this chapter.
- 7:25Mm-hmm.
- 7:27Wow, that's interesting. I know one of them,
- 7:29cause one of them comes as like an egg carton through the dairy guy,
- 7:32Mm. Yeah. Yeah.
- 7:33cause that happens still. ~ and then they have a
- 7:35I mean yeah.
- 7:38half giant delivery at the end of this in the next chapter.
- 7:41So, but yeah.
- 7:43I I had
- 7:44a question. I'm very interested in the mail,
- 7:47you know. Our our father was a mailman,
- 7:49so th this whole just like you know,
- 7:51retired post officer.
- 7:51the wizard
- 7:52the wizard you know, post is a fascinating topic,
- 7:56yes.
- 7:56It truly is, yeah.
- 7:58Do you think wizarding mail has red receipts?
- 8:02Like why? Yeah.
- 8:02Wizarding mail, ooh.
- 8:04Like because they find out that he's not getting the letter,
- 8:08so they keep sending him and they keep like multiplying,
- 8:11you know?
- 8:11Are you supposed
- 8:12to like send something back though?
- 8:15Well, it just says to reply by like the end of summer.
- 8:18So like how do they not know like the same day that
- 8:22Yeah
- 8:23he gets the letter that he's not reading it?
- 8:25There has to be something magical there.
- 8:27That's something easily explainable swept under the rug if it is a plot hole.
- 8:33So Hog Hogwarts'
- 8:34letters are like under some kind of like enchantment then.
- 8:36Some kind of
- 8:36Yeah,
- 8:37charm.
- 8:38either that or the owl is waiting around to see if they read it.
- 8:40Or the are the owls off screen waiting.
- 8:41Yeah,
- 8:43waiting for his tip, his payment.
- 8:45Yeah. Okay, okay.
- 8:48I want to sidebar real quick because I have a new idea.
- 8:52Every episode while we talk about the chapter art,
- 8:55I would love for us to rank the chapter arts.
- 8:57Now, if you will allow me,
- 9:00bear with me as I share my screen.
- 9:05because I've got an exciting little.
- 9:08What could it be? What could it be?
- 9:11little thing right here. It's called a tear list.
- 9:14Can you see my screen and everything?
- 9:16Okay. So this is this
- 9:18is why, you know, audio listeners,
- 9:19you gotta follow us on YouTube or Spotify's got the video too,
- 9:23but
- 9:23Yeah. Yeah. So we've got ourselves a nice run of the mill tier list.
- 9:28I didn't change any of the names because I like,
- 9:30I like S A B C D E F and we've got all 17 chapters,
- 9:35including the first like title page.
- 9:38And we can start off with that because honestly,
- 9:41I didn't really look at that one as much.
- 9:42So I figured we would go ahead and do the first four since just to catch up,
- 9:47you know? ~
- 9:48Okay. Okay.
- 9:49what do you think about the
- 9:52title page it's just well it looks like an image of Hogwarts
- 9:58Yeah. It's ~ yeah,
- 10:02this is gonna be hard for people to see.
- 10:03It's kinda the hit pictures are kinda small.
- 10:04It will be, it is pretty hard.
- 10:06I'll pop up an image if I can in editing.
- 10:06Okay. ~
- 10:10I I like it. It's not like the classic it's a very generic castle though,
- 10:13It's not very Hogwarts-y of us.
- 10:15Yeah.
- 10:17I would say.
- 10:18And I feel like you get better pictures of the castle in other I don't know,
- 10:24other book covers, other chapter arts and stuff.
- 10:26Mm-hmm
- 10:26as the series goes on, so I don't know.
- 10:29I feel like that one's kind of mid mid tier.
- 10:32I'm just saying that's a C. That's pretty mid.
- 10:37Okay, okay.
- 10:37Okay. Now let's do chapter one,
- 10:40the boy who lived. I feel like we gotta go at least A tier for this because it's
- 10:46iconic. It's the first image you really see.
- 10:50It's it's so iconic, it's classic.
- 10:52I I would even go S tier. I think you have to.
- 10:54It would go S tier, okay. I was gonna let it be there.
- 10:56Mm-hmm.
- 10:56I think I agree with that.
- 10:58Okay, then we've got the Vanishing Glass Chapter 2.
- 11:00Mm-hmm. Okay.
- 11:03I hate this one.
- 11:04I know y you said it's not your Dudley.
- 11:07It doesn't look like Dudley to me.
- 11:08It's too
- 11:09flat. I feel like they could have extended it out vertically.
- 11:11Yeah.
- 11:12~ it's, it's presence with Dudley.
- 11:14I don't know. It's cool. It's a weird haircut,
- 11:17but it's not exactly what I imagined Dudley to look like.
- 11:19D for Dursley.
- 11:20D for Dudley Dursley. Okay.
- 11:23Now we've got this chapter, ~ letters from no one.
- 11:28I'm saying minimum B.
- 11:31Okay. I
- 11:32I think it's great.
- 11:35I'd go with a B. Yeah, I don't think it's like amazing,
- 11:37Okay.
- 11:37but it it does highlight like an iconic moment in the in the chapter.
- 11:41Yeah. Yeah. Okay.
- 11:42And it's very
- 11:43memorable to me, yeah.
- 11:45True. Truly, truly. So I think these can all be edited as we go.
- 11:50So we will continue to do this.
- 11:51So as of right now, we've got S tier,
- 11:54B tier, C tier and D tier.
- 11:56Okay. Got the whole spectrum.
- 11:57So we'll see about next week.
- 11:59Just a little quick little, ~ almost stopped our entire recording.
- 12:03Just a quick little segment there.
- 12:06Make it fun. So yeah. ~
- 12:09Now that we are summarized and we've critiqued the art,
- 12:13let's talk about the first section.
- 12:17So we've split this up into four sections so that we can all talk about
- 12:20it more evenly. ~ in the first section we titled Harry's miserable summer.
- 12:26So we've got his actual miserable summer.
- 12:30He's by the time they let him out of the cupboard,
- 12:32it's already the summer holiday,
- 12:34which makes me feel like, did they not allow him to go to school?
- 12:40Because the phrase says by the time they let him out of the cupboard,
- 12:43it was the summer holiday. Sounds like a horrible time.
- 12:47If you're going to punish someone.
- 12:52I guess I don't know, yeah. I'd have to look at the dates on that.
- 12:54I don't know if it When is Dudley's birthday?
- 12:57Like when did they go to the zoo?
- 13:01I assume April or May. You know?
- 13:03It's a couple weeks.
- 13:04The the opening line
- 13:06of the chapter it says the escape of the Brazilian boa constrictor earned Harry
- 13:11his longest ever punishment. So yeah,
- 13:14I don't know.
- 13:16That's gotta be at least... There's no way they didn't let him out.
- 13:19He probably
- 13:20went to school but it was just like he goes,
- 13:22you know he just gets shoved in the cupboard when he gets home.
- 13:26Yeah, school's not really a break.
- 13:26Yeah.
- 13:28He just gets bullied there anyway.
- 13:30I don't know, the way they made it,
- 13:32the way she wrote it down made it seem like an extra like jail time,
- 13:36solitary confinement. Okay,
- 13:39well that's squashed at least.
- 13:41~ Then he's talking about the school he's about to go to after this.
- 13:46He's like, you know, I'm looking forward to the summer,
- 13:51but even more the fall because I'm not going to be at the same school as Dudley.
- 13:57And I'll actually have a, he'll probably have a chance to make real friends,
- 14:01but they call it the local comprehensive
- 14:07in the British version. It's a public school
- 14:09Yeah.
- 14:10basically, but they still wear uniforms,
- 14:12but they're calling it the local comprehensive.
- 14:15That's such a interesting way to call a school.
- 14:18I don't know. Have you heard about that?
- 14:21Do we have any British listeners right now?
- 14:23No, we don't.
- 14:23No. no, we don't we
- 14:26not currently at the moment.
- 14:28If you're British, let
- 14:30us know because we need your help translating
- 14:32If you're on this call right now,
- 14:33please tell us.
- 14:38Hey, apparently, according to Google,
- 14:40Dudley Dursley's birthday is June twenty third,
- 14:43nineteen eighty. So may
- 14:45~ Okay.
- 14:46maybe it's like the the terms are 'cause I mean like school doesn't start 'til like
- 14:51September first, you know, so maybe it's like they don't get out until
- 14:53That's true. Maybe they're in June.
- 14:54the end of June ish, you know?
- 14:56So
- 14:56~
- 14:58Still. So they just celebrated his birthday early?
- 15:04I don't know, that seems a little too late still.
- 15:11mysteries will not always be revealed on our podcast.
- 15:14But we move on. ~ It's really sad,
- 15:17but it's kind of nice that he's finally going to be away from the Dursleys
- 15:20for once in his life. And then we've got a scene in the kitchen or somewhere
- 15:26in the house where Dudley is trying on his new smeltings uniform,
- 15:30which is absolutely diabolical,
- 15:33by the way. is the
- 15:35From the description.
- 15:36description states maroon tailcoats,
- 15:39orange knickerbockers,
- 15:41and flat straw hat called boaters.
- 15:44Not to mention the smelting stick.
- 15:47Like, what is the smelting stick all about?
- 15:50That is, that's where we need another British person.
- 15:52Is that a thing for some schools?
- 15:54Books the book says it's for for the boys to hit each other when
- 15:57the teacher's not looking. Yeah.
- 15:58But it's so vague, it's like to prepare them later for life?
- 16:04I don't understand that. It's a little weird.
- 16:08The book also says this
- 16:09is Vernon Uncle Vernon's proudest moment.
- 16:11He was so proud.
- 16:12Yeah, that's, that's funny.
- 16:14Especially since he gets hit with it later on.
- 16:16But, this, this uniform really makes the ugly brown sweater with orange balls seem
- 16:23totally fine. Like it's almost school colors from the two chapters ago.
- 16:28So yeah. And then again, why are they naming a dessert after pants?
- 16:33I just don't get it.
- 16:37I just don't get it.
- 16:38~ and then we've got the scene where Harry walks into the kitchen
- 16:41and Petunia is boiling clothes in gray dye.
- 16:46And he's like, ~ what's that for?
- 16:50And she's like, it's for your school uniform.
- 16:52It's some of Dudley's old clothes.
- 16:53They won't notice a difference.
- 16:55And.
- 16:55Yeah. I I got ahead of myself
- 16:58with talking about this last episode.
- 16:59I because I was thinking it was chapter two,
- 17:00Yes. Yeah.
- 17:02but yeah, I just
- 17:03I they just go so far out of their way to treat Harry poorly.
- 17:07Like why would they spend
- 17:08What a waste.
- 17:10that time that like that effort of doing all that?
- 17:13Not just
- 17:13It's so extra
- 17:16Like just buy him cheap clothes,
- 17:18you're just going through even more effort just to give soggy clothes
- 17:22in your kitchen like come on ~ I I did like ~
- 17:28The part where he said I didn't realize it had to be so wet.
- 17:31I Just wrote haha feisty when you are
- 17:37Yeah.
- 17:38He's, he's just got talking smack in this chapter.
- 17:41~ and
- 17:42Yeah.
- 17:42then it'll look like everyone else's when I'm finished and the Harris,
- 17:47it said Harry seriously doubted that.
- 17:49And that's such a funny interaction,
- 17:51like almost like breaking the fourth wall.
- 17:53It's almost like a gym looking at the camera moment.
- 17:56That could be good to see in the show.
- 17:59If just a dead pan to his face,
- 18:02like, okay.
- 18:05Yeah.
- 18:07so yeah.
- 18:09That's interesting. They're going so far.
- 18:12And then he also says, make Dudley get the mail.
- 18:16He keeps talking back as if he's not scared of them,
- 18:20which isn't necessarily shown in the first couple of movies.
- 18:24Like he's talking back.
- 18:28Yeah, I yeah. Mm-hmm.
- 18:28And I guess they deserve it, obviously.
- 18:31But like, it's a side of Harry that I don't really see him as.
- 18:36So that's interesting. He doesn't really talk back
- 18:37Mm-hmm. Yeah.
- 18:39until he has magic.
- 18:45and then he gets told to be poked with the smelting stick.
- 18:50So, but yeah, that's all we got for the first section.
- 18:53So we got the second section called the first letter where Harry finally gets
- 18:58his first letter. Why don't you take that section.
- 19:02Well Yeah, he gets sent to go pick up the mail and you know,
- 19:09~ amongst the stack of letters is he finds something addressed to him
- 19:12for like the first time in his life.
- 19:14You know? I feel like as a kid,
- 19:17you know, you never got mail. It was always for your parents,
- 19:19Dude, even if you're the child of a post officer from the USPS...
- 19:20you know. So if you Yeah. Mm
- 19:25hmm. Yeah. Yeah.
- 19:27We never got our own mail. You'd think he would sneak one for us,
- 19:29Mm-hmm.
- 19:30but nah.
- 19:32I I also just going back to the mail,
- 19:34I'm I'm fascinated
- 19:35Yeah.
- 19:35by this because like we'll get to it later,
- 19:38but like six AM, like I feel like this mail is delivered so early.
- 19:43And like it's like there when they get up already,
- 19:44That is so early. Like, it's like almost with the morning paper.
- 19:48you know? Yeah. Maybe that's how they do it over there.
- 19:50But
- 19:51Maybe so. mean, dad got up pretty early,
- 19:53but that's cause he had to drive like 40 minutes.
- 19:55He would like
- 19:55leave for work at six AM, you know,
- 19:57to
- 19:57But he didn't get on his route
- 19:59until like, cause he had to sort his mail.
- 20:01Yeah, you gotta sort it. Yeah,
- 20:01You know, he didn't get on his route until like 10 o'clock.
- 20:03So.
- 20:04but
- 20:07This is a different system though.
- 20:07Things work different across the pond.
- 20:08Yeah.
- 20:08But yeah, you are right. The getting mail,
- 20:11like a letter, addressed to you as a kid,
- 20:14probably one of the, it's gotta be one of the top 10 greatest feelings of childhood.
- 20:18~ I feel so special. Now I don't,
- 20:21Mm.
- 20:22I don't really get it. Yeah.
- 20:25~ it it says here like he couldn't believe ~ that it was addressed to him.
- 20:30He's like, He I didn't even belong to a library,
- 20:32so I didn't get rude notes asking for books back.
- 20:35Like I I thought that was kinda funny.
- 20:36And then he says a letter addressed to him so plainly there could be no mistake,
- 20:41'cause it's addressed to him like Mr.
- 20:44H. Potter,
- 20:44Right.
- 20:44the cupboard under the stairs.
- 20:45It's just like, It's got my cupboard on it.
- 20:47They're already... They didn't even start out with like just the address.
- 20:48Yeah. Mm-hmm.
- 20:51just went, ~
- 20:54covered under the stairs. It's very specific.
- 20:56We're not messing this up. Make no mistake.
- 20:59Yeah.
- 21:02So he t he takes it back to the table and of course I I feel like this
- 21:05is a recurring theme that we'll see with Dudley is just like he can't
- 21:08let Harry get anything. And he's just like,
- 21:11Hang
- 21:12Yeah.
- 21:12on, Harry's got a letter, and just kind of points it out.
- 21:14And Harry's just like, I wish I kind of kept that to myself.
- 21:18But they
- 21:19here.
- 21:19rip it out of his hands. Uncle Vernon reads it,
- 21:22and then he flips out. He tells Petunia and then she flips out,
- 21:26and then they won't tell anybody what's going on.
- 21:28They lock everyone out.
- 21:30And Harry and Dudley have this like little wrest mini wrestling match to
- 21:34see who can like listen at like the the door,
- 21:37at the at the keyhole. Dudley won.
- 21:37Yeah.
- 21:40I love that part mostly because it's rare
- 21:45to see them on the same team.
- 21:49They're
- 21:50Yeah. Mm-hmm.
- 21:51not, they're not really on the same team,
- 21:53but they are both against their parents right now.
- 21:57So it's like, they're kind of equals when they're normally not.
- 22:00So
- 22:00Yeah.
- 22:01I think that's kind of fun to see that little dynamic just for a brief moment.
- 22:06Yeah.
- 22:07~
- 22:08Let's talk about the letter. I think this letter has a good description.
- 22:10Yeah. Okay.
- 22:11~
- 22:17They describe it as thick, heavy,
- 22:19yellowish parchment with emerald green ink.
- 22:22I love a good green ink. And it has a purple wax seal bearing
- 22:27the four house animals. Lion, snake,
- 22:30badger, and eagle.
- 22:33and Jonathan. this point, Harry has no idea what a Hogwarts house is.
- 22:37He just sees these animals. So.
- 22:41question for you and for the discord or whoever's just listening
- 22:44and wants to comment. Without knowing the attributes to each house like bravery,
- 22:50cunningness, know, smarts, wits,
- 22:53and loyalty. Without knowing anything,
- 22:56just rating based off of the animals.
- 22:59Which is the coolest animal? Which is,
- 23:01which are you like drawn to the most?
- 23:04So, ~ lion, snake, badger,
- 23:08eagle?
- 23:09Yeah.
- 23:11Well, Jeremy, you and I are are both Eagle Scouts of the the Boy Scouts of America.
- 23:15So I I feel like we would have to go with Eagle.
- 23:16That is so true.
- 23:18I got my trophy right here dog.
- 23:20Eagles are majestic. ~ man.
- 23:20Yeah. I got mine too, but I'm I'm not gonna go get it.
- 23:24It
- 23:25was just right here that's why I had it.
- 23:26I'm gonna not put that back. I'm just gonna have that right there.
- 23:29But that's my Eagles trophy for getting Eagle Scout.
- 23:33I
- 23:34I would be tempted to go lion though.
- 23:36I feel like lion's pretty cool.
- 23:37I don't like snakes.
- 23:38I don't know if they're cool, they just are powerful
- 23:40and scary. I don't know no snakes,
- 23:43I don't like snakes.
- 23:43Yeah.
- 23:44And badgers are a bunch of duffers,
- 23:46aren't they? You know?
- 23:46I love a badger.
- 23:51Dude, check this one out. ~
- 23:53He's I bet he's gonna pull a book of of Redwall off the shelf.
- 23:56not only a book of redwall lord brochtree speaking of
- 24:00Okay, that's a cool badger. It is.
- 24:02books we do read books in this house now ~ this is about
- 24:07a badger dude he's awesome
- 24:13I badgers are really cool. I'm actually between,
- 24:16Holding a sword like that.
- 24:19all badgers actually have swords.
- 24:21You know, but if we're talking Narnia,
- 24:24like obviously lion is the coolest thing.
- 24:26They have badgers there too.
- 24:26Mm-hmm. Yeah, yeah.
- 24:29The badger is pretty cool. I love a badger.
- 24:31Would you go Eagle though?
- 24:35I have to on my honor,
- 24:38you know? Gotta be eagle scouting.
- 24:39Yeah. It's in our blood.
- 24:42But honestly, I do feel like the left out houses have cooler animals.
- 24:49I don't know, people might disagree.
- 24:51I'll put a poll in the Discord to
- 24:57see what other people think.
- 25:01If you haven't joined our free Discord,
- 25:03you should definitely do that so we can get your answer.
- 25:07Yeah. So at at this point they're they're trying to listen in to to Uncle Vernon
- 25:12and Petunia, ~ their conversation.
- 25:15And you get like little bits and pieces of it.
- 25:17But
- 25:18Mm-hmm.
- 25:18you know, they're trying to figure out like are they how d how do they know he's
- 25:22living under the stairs? Are they watching us?
- 25:24Are they spying on us? Like what's what's going on here?
- 25:26~ and they're like, What should we do?
- 25:29And Uncle Vernon's just like No,
- 25:32we'll ignore it. If they do, they'll get the answer,
- 25:34you know.
- 25:35Yes, that's best. We won't do anything,
- 25:36you know. They'll get the hint.
- 25:37I of relate to that. I kind of ignore problems until they become a really big
- 25:41issue. ~ man.
- 25:43Yeah.
- 25:44He's like, I'm not having one in the house,
- 25:46Betunia.
- 25:47You
- 25:48Didn't we swear when we took him in we'd stamp out that dangerous nonsense?
- 25:52So yeah.
- 25:53I love the part where Vernon first reacts to the letter and it says
- 25:58his face changes colors from red to green to grayish white.
- 26:02It reminds me of
- 26:02Yeah.
- 26:03that scene from Monsters Inc where Randall's getting hit with a baseball bat.
- 26:09I imagine different patterns on them and everything.
- 26:12Yeah. That's a good pool there.
- 26:12So, ~ yeah.
- 26:15I also realized once he kicked Dudley out into the hall with Harry,
- 26:19that's like the first time I've ever seen them parent Dudley for once,
- 26:25you know? ~ And obviously that doesn't last long.
- 26:29As yeah. As it goes
- 26:31on, like they they never give in and tell Dudley what it's all about.
- 26:35And yeah,
- 26:37Right.
- 26:37they're just like th for once in their life they've told him no,
- 26:41you know. Yeah.
- 26:41They're trying to keep him perfect and
- 26:44innocent, I guess, even though he's a turd.
- 26:47I think it's just like yeah, it's just very telling their their reaction
- 26:51to the letter in general. Like something something's going on
- 26:53Yeah.
- 26:53here. ~ later that evening it says Uncle Vernon did something he'd never done
- 26:58before. He visited Harry in his cupboard.
- 27:01And did
- 27:03How's it going sport?
- 27:06Did we get this in the movie like in a deleted scene or something like that?
- 27:10Like I feel like I can picture it,
- 27:13but also I can't really.
- 27:14not sure.
- 27:15I really want to see this this in the in the show.
- 27:18Yes.
- 27:19Because I've always thought this is so funny.
- 27:22Again, the Dursleys go so far out of their way to mistreat Harry.
- 27:26Cause he's
- 27:26Yeah.
- 27:27basically like Harry asks Vernon,
- 27:29like, where's my letter? And he's like,
- 27:31I I don't know what you're talking about.
- 27:31Yeah. It's fine.
- 27:32Don't ask questions. And he's like,
- 27:34It's mine. It had my cupboard on it.
- 27:36You know. It was not a mistake,
- 27:39you know. ~
- 27:40yet.
- 27:41but Vernon's like, Yes, ~ about this cupboard,
- 27:44~ we think you should move into Dudley's second bedroom.
- 27:47And I just
- 27:48second one and that's
- 27:50it says like the the Dursleys had four bedrooms,
- 27:53actually. Like so like Vernon and Petunia had one.
- 27:57They had a guest room for any time Marge would come to stay,
- 28:00and then Dudley had two to himself and then Harry gets the cupboard,
- 28:05like
- 28:05Yes, they had two whole
- 28:06It's so bad.
- 28:07unused bedrooms.
- 28:10Yeah.
- 28:10~ man, that's crazy.
- 28:13th this
- 28:14chapter in particular, you you were talking like roll doll vibes.
- 28:17Like I'm definitely
- 28:17Yeah.
- 28:18getting that from this. Like this is like Matilda's parents,
- 28:20Especially in like the mean, yes.
- 28:21like, you know. Yeah.
- 28:22Right, right, right. That'll be so good to see.
- 28:26~
- 28:28Well, I, there's a prop alert that I want to see in this now.
- 28:34Okay.
- 28:35One of Dudley's old presents is a working tank.
- 28:40Yeah.
- 28:42How exactly does that work? partially...
- 28:45I'm interested partially because that's an insane thing to have,
- 28:48but it also sounds really fun.
- 28:50Like if it's a Nerf gun thing,
- 28:53that would be cool to just drive around the house.
- 28:54Probably like that ninja turtles pizza shooter,
- 28:56you know.
- 28:57No, I don't No, I don't know.
- 28:57I thought it was like a real thing you could get in.
- 28:59That seems huge.
- 29:01~ a working tank Dudley had once driven over to the neighbor's door next door
- 29:05Yeah.
- 29:05neighbor's dog. no, he used it to over the he drove it over the dog.
- 29:08It's like... Yeah! ~ He's
- 29:11an evil little turd. man. Yeah,
- 29:15so it's like
- 29:15Yeah.
- 29:15one of those little motor cars,
- 29:17but it's a tank. I've never seen that.
- 29:18Okay, yeah. Mm-hmm. Yeah.
- 29:19And you could shoot stuff out of it,
- 29:21like a tennis
- 29:22ball or something. That'd be awesome.
- 29:23Kinda envy one of his 37 presents.
- 29:27Yeah.
- 29:28I I liked how it said like there was like a whole shelf of books that were just like
- 29:33very new. Probably the only thing in the room that hadn't been played with
- 29:34Yeah.
- 29:36or touched, like
- 29:38I think my favorite item in the empty room in Dudley's second bedroom
- 29:43was the empty bird cage, which I assume turns into Hedwig's cage.
- 29:47I don't know. Maybe not. ~ but just the thought of Dudley shoving
- 29:53an entire parrot in his backpack to take to school is insane.
- 29:59Like obviously he couldn't bring the cage,
- 30:01but he could have just asked like a friend to come over to get it.
- 30:05But he like traded, I guess,
- 30:08did he trade it for the working tank or I don't know exactly what he traded it for,
- 30:12but he brought a live pair to school to trade.
- 30:16It's swapped out for a real air rifle.
- 30:18Air rifle. So now he just has
- 30:20Which was on the shelf,
- 30:21it.
- 30:22with the end bent because Dudley had sat on it.
- 30:25I he just catches strays like just left and right.
- 30:26That's horrible. Always catch it.
- 30:30Yeah.
- 30:30Man.
- 30:31Not good. good. And it's, you know,
- 30:34every chapter there's something new.
- 30:36Mm-hmm.
- 30:38Ugh. But the- I just love
- 30:39Dudley's like up
- 30:40that he didn't give him the birdcage.
- 30:42Because can't you just like fold down birdcages
- 30:42Mm-hmm.
- 30:45too?
- 30:47I guess some of the I have seen them do that before,
- 30:49but you know, those those ones
- 30:50So funny.
- 30:51that use by that are used by magicians,
- 30:53you know, they'll like, you know,
- 30:54smash
- 30:54Alright.
- 30:55and then the bird disappears. Yeah.
- 30:57Like in The Prestige. We just watched that.
- 30:58Except the bird doesn't disappear
- 31:00in the in the prestige. It's not real magic.
- 31:05Wait... He makes a bird reappear though.
- 31:09That's that bird.
- 31:12I I can't spoil the prestige on this podcast.
- 31:14It's too good of a movie.
- 31:22So does that bring us to the next section here?
- 31:24Okay.
- 31:24That does bring us up to the next
- 31:25section. Letters everywhere. So we've got more letters arriving through increasingly
- 31:31impossible routes and Vernon becomes desperate to keep them from Harry.
- 31:35So my first note was, dude, these Dursleys need to be on Super Nanny.
- 31:43Yeah.
- 31:44That would be such an incredible show.
- 31:46Or like, Wife Swab with King Curtis.
- 31:47Like the wife swap? Yeah, Dudley is King Curtis,
- 31:51like Yeah.
- 31:55man. ~
- 31:56Yeah.
- 31:57And then there's another like very assertive and brave Gryffindor trait coming
- 32:02up for Harry because it says he had grabbed Uncle Vernon around the neck from behind
- 32:08trying to get his letter. And I feel like that's a no-no,
- 32:11but he doesn't respect Vernon.
- 32:14He shouldn't. But I thought that was interesting.
- 32:19Little future Gryffindor here we come.
- 32:24someone had known he had slept in the cupboard under the stairs.
- 32:27If I had gotten that letter, I probably would be a little freaked out.
- 32:32I mean, that's gotta be super creepy.
- 32:34Cause he doesn't know what's like who this is that's trying to reach him,
- 32:39which is exciting, but also like,
- 32:43they're freaking out because it's like stranger danger.
- 32:46Like they're worried for me, even though they wouldn't be.
- 32:49Yeah.
- 32:53~ and then I thought to myself,
- 32:57even now that he has his own room,
- 33:00I feel like it's, I would want to be back into the,
- 33:05the cupboard just because I have the whole downstairs to myself at night away from
- 33:09the Dursleys, you know? I feel like that's...
- 33:13Yeah.
- 33:14He he does say something similar to that where he's like,
- 33:17He'd rather be back in his cupboard with the letter than than up here without it.
- 33:19yeah right and they also said so he could sneak food
- 33:21But yeah. Yeah.
- 33:28So yeah. He's waiting.
- 33:32He gets up really early to wait for the postman.
- 33:36This is one of my notes that may have been.
- 33:40ruined by your new theory that there's no owls here but I was like
- 33:42it's okay. I don't know for sure.
- 33:46little does he know that it's an owl delivering his stuff and not a postman
- 33:52and then this is the part where Vernon really starts to go crazy because
- 33:55his first reaction is to give him a bedroom to sleep in that's fine
- 34:01but now Vernon is sleeping at the bottom of the stairs in a sleeping
- 34:06bag waiting for the mail to come
- 34:12'Cause it's ar
- 34:12And that's just.
- 34:13it's already escalated. I did you already mention it,
- 34:15Yeah. Yeah.
- 34:15of of how
- 34:16the letter like they knew he moved upstairs.
- 34:19He got the second letter. And then like
- 34:20right right right
- 34:22they just keep coming. And so,
- 34:23like, yeah, Harry's like, I got a plan,
- 34:25more specific. Yes.
- 34:25I'm gonna get this letter. Yeah.
- 34:28So. He tried to be so quiet too.
- 34:31And I love that it's pitch black and he can't,
- 34:34he doesn't know it's him until he's stepping on a squashy face.
- 34:41I feel like this is the beginning of the five stages of grief for Vernon.
- 34:46Like he's starting to go crazy,
- 34:47but like this is a man in denial at least right now.
- 34:52And then he slips into the anger stage when he yells at
- 34:58him for half an hour at 6 a.m.
- 35:01I've never been yelled at for half an hour.
- 35:05That's 30 whole minutes.
- 35:08Is is it the same though in in ~ England?
- 35:11Is half an hour still the same?
- 35:12It's half an hour's different.
- 35:13Do they use they use time different?
- 35:15I don't know. We'll have to consult Big Ben.
- 35:18It's a British half hour.
- 35:25And then we've got this image,
- 35:26an interaction of Vernon speaking to Petunia with a mouthful of nails,
- 35:32which is also something really funny to see.
- 35:34hope we, I hope we see that. ~ and then we get
- 35:40our first musical needle, needle drop.
- 35:42hope this can be a good thing.
- 35:44Tiptoe through the tulips
- 35:47Yes. Mm-hmm.
- 35:49as he's nailing the thing shut.
- 35:52He's singing Tiptoe the Through the Tulips to himself.
- 35:55And I just feel like that would be the perfect if you have...
- 35:59They're probably gonna fit all of this into one episode.
- 36:02So this requires a solid good montage of Vernon's craziness.
- 36:07So my suggestion for the HBO show is to have a Tiptoe Through
- 36:11the Tulips needle drop. And he starts to go crazy.
- 36:15You can see it in his eyes. And you know how that song is used as like
- 36:18a creepy horror movie?
- 36:21trope we can make it really funny but give a little bit of on the edge look that'll
- 36:26be a great montage of him just of all of them like the different ways they're
- 36:32getting letters and ripping them up like petunia gets the the eggs
- 36:35and blends them up in the food processor and just them driving but it could be like
- 36:43montage with that song and then I take a break for the no post on Sunday scene
- 36:48and then back to tiptoe through the tulips when they get into the car to
- 36:53go to the hotel like shake them off shake them off
- 36:58Yeah,
- 36:58I I really did I I did want to go back to one thing as he was like nailing
- 37:03up the mail slot. it says that like
- 37:07it says ~ basically he like what got so like flustered and distracted that he's like
- 37:13he's trying to knock in a nail with a piece of fruitcake Aunt Petunia had
- 37:16you
- 37:17just brought him. Like he's and he d there's another moment later on,
- 37:21the no post on Sundays, where
- 37:23Yeah
- 37:24~
- 37:26It says he he's talking to them about no post on Sundays,
- 37:29you know, they can't deliver today.
- 37:30And it says as he's spreading marmalade on his newspaper.
- 37:34Yeah.
- 37:34Like he's just gone
- 37:35crazy. He's so distracted.
- 37:38I missed that. I missed that.
- 37:38I thought that was so
- 37:40fun. But like you're saying, like whenever they go off,
- 37:43they're trying to like run away from these letters and like,
- 37:46yeah, shake off,
- 37:46Yeah.
- 37:46shake off and
- 37:47Yeah.
- 37:48He they like drive out into the woods.
- 37:50He gets out of the car, looks around,
- 37:52he says, Nope, not here and gets back in the car and keeps driving like
- 37:54Yes! All of a sudden takes a hard right turn.
- 37:56the I I really
- 37:58I just hope it's like a really funny scene.
- 38:00I feel like it could be.
- 38:01I do too.
- 38:02And I really hope they buy the rights to tiptoe through the tulips so they
- 38:05can make this a funny, lighthearted,
- 38:06Yeah.
- 38:08and creepy
- 38:09little montage. think, ~ that would be so great.
- 38:12Ugh. ~ I feel like the pullout quote for this one is,
- 38:17no post on Sundays. Probably
- 38:20That's a good one.
- 38:20because the movie makes it so iconic,
- 38:22but.
- 38:25Do we have, have you ever heard of a kitchen chimney?
- 38:28Is it common to have a
- 38:30~
- 38:30chimney inside your kitchen? Or am I just going crazy?
- 38:33I'm not sure what it is. Is
- 38:34it like an exhaust vent for like above the stove?
- 38:36Like a fan.
- 38:37That might be what they mean,
- 38:39because I'm thinking like fireplace chimney.
- 38:41That makes a lot more sense. I mean,
- 38:42Yeah, I don't Okay. That's probably what it is.
- 38:46they had like in the 1800s before electricity,
- 38:49they cooked on their fireplace,
- 38:51but this is the nineties. So.
- 38:54Yeah, it's just those things above the stove.
- 38:56Like those vents to Yeah.
- 38:59Okay, cool. That
- 39:00makes it a lot better to me. That's just another Britishism.
- 39:06~ So then he decides they're going away and I feel like that's the bargaining stage.
- 39:12then the next, throughout the rest of this chapter,
- 39:16he kind of goes back into other stages.
- 39:17He doesn't finish the full five because it's that bad,
- 39:20I guess. ~ And then I guess going back to the letter,
- 39:26he asks, he's already getting paranoid,
- 39:29but he makes a joke saying, ~ you're checking for letter bombs.
- 39:35And I was wondering what that was such a weird side comment,
- 39:37but apparently big like back then it was a big scare back then,
- 39:42like the IRA in the 1990s were sending letter bombs to around London
- 39:47to like army bases and stuff.
- 39:51that's some interesting, like historical context.
- 39:55So yeah, back to driving away.
- 39:57finally go to a hotel, and they have stale corn flakes
- 40:03and cold tin tomatoes on toast.
- 40:05Which sounds disgusting.
- 40:09But it's nice to know the British also have continental breakfast.
- 40:12Even if it's gross.
- 40:17and I checked to see if the, the Rail View Hotel is a real place,
- 40:20but it is not, but it's located in Corkworth,
- 40:25which is described as a dirty industrial town in the English Midlands where
- 40:30characters like Lily Evans, Petunia Dursley,
- 40:33and Severus Snape grew up. So that's kind of interesting,
- 40:38but that'd be cool if there was a real hotel that that was based off of.
- 40:42I
- 40:42bet we could we could map this this journey out,
- 40:44right? 'Cause don't they like live in Surrey,
- 40:45Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
- 40:46right? So from like Surrey
- 40:50to Cokeworth to wherever this shack is,
- 40:53we can make a I don't know, an estimate on that.
- 40:55to the boat docks?
- 40:56I don't know.
- 40:57I wonder.
- 40:58The last part is the hut on the rock.
- 41:00Vernon takes the family to an isolated hut as Harry's eleventh birthday begins.
- 41:05Someone knocks on the door.
- 41:08wonder who that could be.
- 41:12yeah.
- 41:14Yeah, so Vernon is going crazy.
- 41:18He's driving around, driving in circles.
- 41:21He'll go in one direction, turn around,
- 41:24go in the opposite direction,
- 41:24you
- 41:25drive out to the woods. Finally he's like,
- 41:28I found the perfect place for us and he gets this like this guy in like
- 41:33a little little rowboat to take him out to this hut in the middle of the ocean.
- 41:37And
- 41:39This guy is described as a toothless
- 41:41old man and for some reason I imagine this dude at like
- 41:46a lighthouse keeper in Maine, but I imagine him as that fisherman mouse
- 41:52guy with a raincoat from flushed away if you remember that guy He had the fish
- 42:00yeah.
- 42:00Super deep cut I guess, but that's who I imagine
- 42:03he got the keys from
- 42:06I just
- 42:06remember the fish that said, you know,
- 42:07Have you seen my den? Okay.
- 42:09Yeah, that's him. He was holding him.
- 42:12Okay. Yeah.
- 42:13He had like a hook
- 42:14and stuff.
- 42:14So you you said no post on Sundays is a standout quote.
- 42:19I put Daddy's gone mad, hasn't he?
- 42:21I feel like that's a good one.
- 42:21Daddy's gone mad, hasn't he? Yeah,
- 42:23that is a good one. Yeah. That is true.
- 42:23Made famous by the movie, I feel like,
- 42:26but
- 42:28I I know it'll be it'll be so interesting to see to hear some of these like iconic
- 42:33lines done in a different way,
- 42:35delivered differently. Yeah.
- 42:36you know. I don't know.
- 42:39Some things maybe you just have to do it that way,
- 42:41but I don't know.
- 42:42Yeah. ~ so then they're finally here.
- 42:46They, they talk about their rations and he gets a bag of crisps,
- 42:51which in our, in our language,
- 42:54it is chips, but their chips in,
- 42:58in Britain is French fries. I just feel like they're wrong on that.
- 43:02Pringles are crisps because they're not chipped off of a potato.
- 43:06But that doesn't mean that a chip is from,
- 43:09is in a french fry form. Because chipping off a potato means a potato chip.
- 43:16So, I think we win that debate.
- 43:22I don't I don't feel that strongly on that one,
- 43:24but I'll support you.
- 43:25Okay. All right.
- 43:26~
- 43:28Got a couple of debates throughout this book for British versus American.
- 43:35Dudley's talking about he wants to stay somewhere that has a television.
- 43:38He says it's Monday. The great Humberto's
- 43:39You
- 43:41on tonight. I want to stay somewhere with a television.
- 43:44I assume that's also a fake person.
- 43:48The great Humberto. I I I
- 43:49Is it like a magician show?
- 43:51know, it feels like like a magician.
- 43:53Like a David Copperfield or something.
- 43:53Which is interesting because
- 43:56this is a wizard. They're anti wizard here,
- 43:59anti magic. So I don't know. It's weird that
- 44:04I Dudley wishes he was a wizard subconsciously.
- 44:08if there's I don't know if there's any info about it.
- 44:08I bet there's a fanfic that Dudley is
- 44:11also going to school.
- 44:17Thanks.
- 44:18But ~ Harry says Monday, this reminded Harry of something.
- 44:21If it was Monday, and you could usually count on Dudley to know the days
- 44:24of the week because of television,
- 44:26then tomorrow, Tuesday,
- 44:27Alright.
- 44:28was Harry's eleventh birthday.
- 44:32I keep bringing up the office in this show.
- 44:36I'm not even a huge office fan,
- 44:38but this part also reminded me of Kevin being able to do accounting based
- 44:44off of &Ms. Like he can do any calculation of numbers.
- 44:47Only if you say it's this many &Ms,
- 44:50how many do you have left? I don't know if you remember that part.
- 44:53Yeah.
- 44:53It's really funny.
- 44:55He plays like the dumb guy.
- 44:59Not when there's &Ms involved.
- 45:01I just feel like that's so deadly.
- 45:03Like
- 45:04But yeah, he
- 45:05knowing the days of the week. But it totally makes sense.
- 45:07He's very on top of things.
- 45:08He's being rationed, which it makes total sense why in the next chapter
- 45:12he goes ham on the cake. Like he's eating cornflakes,
- 45:1710 tomatoes or tomatoes. And what else was that?
- 45:23We just saw it. crisps.
- 45:27Yeah. So like...
- 45:29I'd be upset too. It says it's like his worst day he's ever had in his life.
- 45:33Ha ha ha.
- 45:35Well they they traveled to the hut,
- 45:37says it was freezing in the boat,
- 45:38and icy sea spray. When they when I was listening to the audio book,
- 45:43I was like, What is this I C C C spray?
- 45:46But it's like I see spray and rain crept down their necks and a chilly wind
- 45:46I say sea spray. Sea spray.
- 45:52whipped their faces. Seemed like hours until they reached the rock where Uncle
- 45:56Vernon slipping and sliding led the way to the broken down house.
- 46:00The inside was horrible, smelled strongly of seaweed,
- 46:02the wind whistled through the gaps in the wooden walls,
- 46:05and the fireplace was damp and empty.
- 46:06There were only two rooms. Dudley only got one of
- 46:10You two rooms.
- 46:15Yeah, I guess so. Did Dudley get his own room?
- 46:17Was it two bedrooms or two rooms,
- 46:19like one bedroom and the living room?
- 46:21you're you're right. I th I feel like it probably was
- 46:21Cause Dudley
- 46:24was on the couch. ~
- 46:27In the movie.
- 46:28no, in the book too, they set up a palette or something on the couch
- 46:29Does that is that what it says?
- 46:30Okay. I know Harry's on the floor,
- 46:31of old moldy blankets.
- 46:34you know.
- 46:37but yeah, I thought that was confusing text here because it says next door.
- 46:42Like they went next door.
- 46:45Okay, yeah.
- 46:46but there's not an external building.
- 46:49That makes me think that, but maybe it's more like that's the next door from where
- 46:55they're at. I guess that makes sense.
- 46:57It's it seems
- 46:58like just like a one room cabin and then a living area in a kitchen,
- 47:01Yeah. Yeah.
- 47:02you
- 47:02know, or something.
- 47:03Well, as as the night rages on,
- 47:05Harry's kinda listening to Dudley's stomach rumbling over the the sounds of thunder.
- 47:10He's counting down the minutes,
- 47:12you know, five, four, three, two.
- 47:14It's not every day one turns eleven,
- 47:16you know. You can't help but be excited.
- 47:18You know.
- 47:18That's also another good feeling
- 47:20is just like staying up when you know you're gonna turn 11 maybe
- 47:26and just like watching the clock turn to midnight even though you're in bed,
- 47:30you know, sleepless. That's a good feeling too.
- 47:34Yeah. He's counting down the seconds and then boom.
- 47:38The whole shack shivered, and Harry sat bolt upright,
- 47:41staring at the door. Someone was outside,
- 47:43knocking to come in.
- 47:46Sounds like a really big letter.
- 47:49My my prediction is that that is where episode one ends of the HBO series.
- 47:55Okay. Okay.
- 47:57I feel like that's a natural point to to end.
- 48:00Although I would like him to space it out a little
- 48:01There's a lot.
- 48:02bit more. So I don't know.
- 48:05Hmm... Interesting.
- 48:07But I I feel like that's a very good,
- 48:09like, dramatic end of end of the pilot episode,
- 48:12you know.
- 48:13Yeah, I would say another stopping point if you wanted to stop earlier would
- 48:18be him receiving his letter and nothing happening.
- 48:21The first one? Yeah.
- 48:22Like,
- 48:22yeah, the first one. And then this is where the second episode starts.
- 48:27And then they have this whole interaction.
- 48:29And then the third episode is Diagon Alley after he's with Hagrid.
- 48:33So I don't know. This could be an entire episode.
- 48:35Could be. Mm-hmm.
- 48:38Because there's a lot of stuff that has dropped in the next.
- 48:42Like chapters three and four could be its own episode for sure because there's
- 48:46a lot of backstory dropped in it ~ So,
- 48:51I don't know we'll see I'm excited anyways
- 48:55Yeah.
- 48:56I I feel like this maybe we've got too high expectations now for this chapter.
- 49:01But like I think we're both really looking forward to it.
- 49:03If they like if they get the right tone with it of just seeing how like
- 49:07I need it.
- 49:07crazy Vernon gets, just how unhinged and mad he gets,
- 49:10Yeah, that's what I re-
- 49:11like, yeah.
- 49:13We really- I think everybody wants them to do the Dursley's right.
- 49:16And give them some good screen time.
- 49:18And more time for us to hate them even more.
- 49:21So. Yeah, it'll be good. And it-
- 49:24I'll get bonus points. We should like-
- 49:28tally up all of our predictions and see which ones were we were right at
- 49:31the end of it. And
- 49:32Yeah. That'd be cool.
- 49:34then we'll see who wins, who has the most bonus points.
- 49:36Okay.
- 49:38Well, Jeremy, I'm getting a little hungry.
- 49:41You want a little wizarding snack off the trolley?
- 49:43Let's get the spinny wheel out of Snack Hood.
- 49:47I
- 49:48Okay, okay.
- 49:49get a new name for this each time.
- 49:50So if you're new here, which I don't know why you would be if starting
- 49:53on chapter three, ~ we have this wheel of different snacks from
- 49:58the Wizarding World that we've got.
- 50:00~ Every other one is a BirdieBot's roulette.
- 50:03Could be a birdie bots?
- 50:03section so
- 50:05we've only gotten birdie bots the past couple times and we've gotten vomit rotten
- 50:09egg marshmallow and what was the one you had candy floss so we've
- 50:12Candy floss. Yeah, that one was good.
- 50:15had two really bad ones and two solid good ones but we're really hoping
- 50:20for some other type non-bean because we have some trauma from episode one still so
- 50:26Okay, so you ready to spin this wheel or?
- 50:28Alright.
- 50:28I'm ready.
- 50:35What is this? What Fizzing Whizbees!
- 50:37Ooh.
- 50:37Okay. It's- I feel like this is a snack-like segment to do before
- 50:44we have anything like showcased in the book,
- 50:47but you know, whatever. Let me go get my Fizzing Whizbees.
- 50:54believe these are it. Yeah. We didn't want to buy two separate packages,
- 50:59so we just split them up. Jonathan has the main packages.
- 51:02Yeah. Yeah Yeah, here's the box here.
- 51:02Did you already show off the packaging?
- 51:06Okay.
- 51:07Fizzing Whisbeys. Official
- 51:09Okay.
- 51:09Harry Potter.
- 51:13Orange sherbet white chocolate with popping candy.
- 51:16So I'm excited.
- 51:17Ooh, interesting.
- 51:19So I've gotten these at Wizarding World of Harry Potter and I...
- 51:22Hundred and sixty calories. If you're allergic,
- 51:23How for- ~ for three pieces.
- 51:24to any of these ingredients, stop listening for a few minutes.
- 51:31That's a lot of calories for three pieces of candy.
- 51:33That's crazy. Okay. ~ I will say I had them at Harry Potter World,
- 51:38well, like maybe five, 10 years ago,
- 51:42and they were chocolate with raspberry popping candy.
- 51:46and I really loved those. And I'm not sure how I feel about it,
- 51:49but let's go for it.
- 51:52Okay.
- 51:53All
- 51:54like orange cream signal.
- 51:56Mm-hmm. It's good.
- 51:58I mean, I mean the rest of it.
- 52:00This is great.
- 52:03Well.
- 52:04I'll eat two.
- 52:07Amen.
- 52:08I'm gonna eat one just to watch my figure.
- 52:10They're pretty thick too.
- 52:13They're very chewy, yeah.
- 52:15Mm-hmm.
- 52:17Well, I guess that concludes our chapter three,
- 52:21so... My brain is bubbling right now because
- 52:22Hmm. I'm good with that. I can't yeah.
- 52:27of that fizzing whiz. I can't even hear myself.
- 52:30What a fun candy. I love popping
- 52:32Yeah.
