Transcript
- 0:00The following program is produced by the tech Talk Radio Network. This is Alice
- 0:03Cooper, the original Techno Todd, and you're listening to tech Talk Radio.
- 0:10This is tech Talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor, I'm Sean de Weird,
- 0:13I'm Matt Jones, I'm Slick, and I'm justin lemme. The entire crew
- 0:18is here and everybody is tired of grubby. Yeah, just a little bit.
- 0:27I don't know, as Sean, what do you think when when the
- 0:29cameras came on, everybody was sitting here with just this look of their face
- 0:33like I'm angry. Yeah, it's everybody's busy. I'm busy. Yeah,
- 0:39It's kind of like how and next week we'll probably do nineteen graduation ceremonies.
- 0:45Oh yeah, I would rather rub my eyeballs with sandpaper. The look on
- 0:52everybody was everybody's face when we first joined the Zoom call for this recording was
- 0:56kind of like that look on your face the morning of your calling. Yeah,
- 1:00that would be good after all those the great liquid Yeah, oh that
- 1:06tastes so bad. But we're here for you, folks, But we love
- 1:11you. We hate everybody else, but we love our listeners. I think
- 1:15I think we found the name for this week's show. You know, we
- 1:18always looking for a name. I think this week's show is it's better than
- 1:22a colonoscopy, more entertaining than a colonoscopy. Well, you know it's gonna
- 1:26be interesting because you know, Okay, granted, we're all not in the
- 1:32very best of moods for various personal reasons, but this should actually make for
- 1:37an interesting show. So let's see. Let's see how it turns out.
- 1:38There is a there's a lot of stuff to talk about. Earlier this week,
- 1:42Apple had their big to do and I know and as I'm gonna go
- 1:47get a beer, I'll be back in a couple of minutes. As I
- 1:49was putting this together, I realized, you know, Justin is not the
- 1:53biggest fan of Apple when it comes to their announcements, their hoopla. They
- 1:57had a big event that they hosted this week where they introduced and everybody knew
- 2:02what they were going to be introducing. They were going to introduce the new
- 2:06iPads. And the thing is not just putting out a new iPad. They
- 2:09did announce some technology with it, the M four. I was looking at
- 2:14iPads the other day and I was thinking about getting one myself. But then
- 2:17I looked at the price and I thought, you know, I could just
- 2:20I could beef up my system if I really wanted to. Yeah, I
- 2:23mean you got to think about who the iPads are really targeting, right,
- 2:27They're the people who don't have desktop computers. They're the creative people who are
- 2:30on the go. My mom has an iPad pro that she uses for all
- 2:35version of nastics judging, and she loves it, so she it's for her
- 2:39with the pencil, I think she has one of the other versions of the
- 2:43pencil, and she's able to doodle all of her notes and able to share
- 2:47them with other people, and she really enjoys it. So she doesn't have
- 2:52a big fancy desktop. She doesn't have. I don't even think I have
- 2:54a desktop computer at a home anymore at all. Oh wow, they really
- 2:58they are. Well they're using iPads for ever. I would never have thought
- 3:00of somebody actually using this as a replacement for a desktop or even maybe a
- 3:06laptop. Definitely can. Yeah, for my parents who are on the go,
- 3:08they use it all the time for when they travel. They have them
- 3:13with the cell phone plan on them so they can use them for all of
- 3:16their work their emails. And also my parents are both retired, they're traveling
- 3:22a lot, so it makes sense for them. But Samsung has their decks
- 3:24de Ex, which does the desktop experience with their tablets, So they actually
- 3:29sell a specific dock where you can take a Galaxy tab, pop it in
- 3:34that and it actually starts acting as a PC. Oh wow. So there
- 3:39are people who are definitely being like, I don't need this heavy laptop.
- 3:44I don't need this gigantic tower looking at mine. They would just rather have
- 3:49a small tablet they can take everywhere. So it's a little bit of a
- 3:53variation of what you guys are talking about. But if I may jump in
- 3:57just for a moment to talk about like from the video game aspect of this.
- 4:00You know, I've I've got a really really nice desktop computer that I
- 4:05built a year and a half ago. I mean, I've upgraded it over
- 4:09the years, but I mean I'm talking you know, an AMD top of
- 4:13the line processor, you know, lots of RAM, a nice video card,
- 4:17you know, triple monitors. I don't use it for anything except to
- 4:24record tech talk radio anymore because my Steam deck, you know, I played
- 4:30video games. I don't even touch my Xbox anymore. Wow. I strictly
- 4:35play on the steam Deck, and which is really weird because I remember the
- 4:39day that Matt showed me his wife's steam deck. We were on the Amtrak
- 4:45train heading to Glenwood Springs from Denver and we were on what was it a
- 4:49six and a half hour train ride. I remember you talking ride. I
- 4:54remember taking his wife's steam deck and I'm like, oh, this is that
- 4:58new thing they called the steam deck on me check it out and I was
- 5:00like, gosh, it's it's kind of bulky, and I don't know if
- 5:04I'd like this or whatever, but I never really got a chance to sit
- 5:06out and play with it. But you know what, I ended up buying
- 5:09my own. We've talked about it on a previous show. I bought a
- 5:12steam Deck and it is completely transformed the way I play games because I can
- 5:15just do this on the on the go. So to go to your point
- 5:18where you don't need to have a desktop, whether it be a PC or
- 5:24a Mac. If you can do everything you're doing on the go like an
- 5:28iPad pro or if you're gonna play video games, if you can do it
- 5:31on a steam deck, I mean it's becoming more and more of a handheld
- 5:36market, and not to even go into a whole other category. But now
- 5:40there's super huge rumors out there that are talking about the next Xbox console.
- 5:45It's not gonna be a console at all. It's gonna be a handheld.
- 5:47They're gonna try to take on Nintendo in Nintendo's turf. M h yep.
- 5:53And I think part of that is the leaps and bounds that cloud computing has
- 5:59made along with building out the internet infrastructure, having more people having access to
- 6:06high speed internet, having five G Internet that is, you know, rivaling
- 6:12most people's home internet, to where you now have companies ISPs offering five G
- 6:15home Internet to the point where you don't need to have some big super processing
- 6:21unit at home in the form of a console, a PC, things like
- 6:26that. You can do it all on the go. I mean, we
- 6:30talked about this in a previous show, you know, justin just brought it
- 6:32up with Xbox saying, you know, it's going to be something handheld because
- 6:35they have so much power on the back end on the other side of that
- 6:40cloud connection. You know, Sony renders half of their games through PS.
- 6:45Plus you stream the game, it installs like a five hundred kilobyte file on
- 6:48your hard drive and you're streaming the game directly to your machine. So why
- 6:53do I need to buy a big bulky thing when you have it in a
- 6:57data center somewhere else. And back to our original point with the tablets,
- 7:00you don't need to have all that storage space on a tablet or at home
- 7:03anymore because it's all on the cloud accounts. You have Adobe Creative Cloud,
- 7:08you have iCloud, you have Google Cloud, every Office three sixty five.
- 7:13Everything is turning into software as a service. It's all subscription based and it's
- 7:18all accessible everywhere. I mean one note ever note they will ever note is
- 7:24more of the first. But you just have it all saved up in a
- 7:28cloud location. You can access it anywhere. Why wouldn't we do that?
- 7:32Yeah, I think it's gonna be kind of a return to like an old
- 7:35concept where there's gonna be these huge you know, in your house maybe or
- 7:41a service you sign up for, there's gonna be that huge mainframe esque thing
- 7:45and you're just gonna be walking around with your hand terminals. Who cares how
- 7:47much power the terminal has, it's just linking up to the big boy.
- 7:50I'll tell you. And it's pretty amazing with the power of some of these
- 7:54points, some of these tablets now you know, you yes, you could
- 7:57use them for you know, for work, use for fun as well.
- 8:01I mean you put all your apps on there that you stream with, whether
- 8:05it be you know, Paramount Plus, Netflix, Hulu, and you could
- 8:09use it as an entertainment device. I just recently on television showed a product
- 8:13from Logitech, and you know you're talking about, you know, the docking
- 8:16station. Logica has the Universal Folio and it is a universal four iPads as
- 8:24well as androids. So you know, I have the Samsung Galaxy tab A
- 8:26eight and that worked in it and it connects me a blue tooth to the
- 8:31tablet itself and a little switch turns it on to lithium batteries power this this
- 8:37little keyboard and you have the ability then so you don't have to use the
- 8:41on screen keyboard, which some people have told me that's what they don't like
- 8:45about tablets is trying to type on the screen and doing that. Well,
- 8:48now it's almost transformed into a type of a type of laptop, although I
- 8:54wish there was like a like kind of a pad on it where you could
- 8:58move around a little easier. But again, you have the ability now with
- 9:03this this follicle which only runs about they're listed at sixty bucks. I summon
- 9:09Amazon for twenty five dollars. It's a that's a great little device. You
- 9:13get a lot of power. You just off did the same thing with the
- 9:16with the surface. Yeah, you went from having a big machine to the
- 9:20surface or the keyboard that's got the tablet. Can we just get this over
- 9:24with and just give us all our pit boys and jumpsuits and let's just call
- 9:26us a day, Like, seriously, what are you talking about pit boys
- 9:30on jump sualt? You're putting me in. I am not going into some
- 9:33of those. I'm sorry for those of you not following me. I'm referencing
- 9:37Fallout. Oh I tried. I started watching. I watched it. About
- 9:39halfway through. I was like, okay, oh my god, I finished
- 9:43it. I finished it. It's so good. I'm talking about the first
- 9:45episode. It was like so violent. I was like, okay, dude,
- 9:48yeah, I was like, well, see, now here's the thing.
- 9:50Andy. I know you you have a history of saying that you're gonna
- 9:54watch stuff, and then you watch one episode and you're like nah, I'm
- 9:56gona going back to Hallmark. It didn't grab me. I was like,
- 10:00I don't know, I gotta give it a chance. But even then,
- 10:03I'm just saying with all the what I'm trying to say is, with all
- 10:07the talk about the everybody's on the go with their handheld tablets. Yeah,
- 10:11just give us all a pit boy. We start it to our wrist,
- 10:13give us our jumpsuits, tell us what vault we're going into, and we'll
- 10:15call it a day. I'll tell you a really cool use for tablets.
- 10:20And I don't know how everybody uses the tablet. I think we all have
- 10:22them, right, we all have a tablet. There is a company called
- 10:26RCS and they make software for broadcasting. They have a product called Zeta,
- 10:31and this is what's so cool about it. And I know there's other products
- 10:35that are out there, but say somebody is broadcasting, and I will say
- 10:39one of us had to go down to the grand opening of BUCkies, which
- 10:43we're hoping we get invited to, all right, and do a broadcast remote
- 10:46from there with the Zeta. This is so cool. It's a tablet you
- 10:52can actually dial into the radio station without somebody even having to be there.
- 10:58At the radio station and record a you know of what they call a break
- 11:05saying, you know, hey, it's you know, justin I'm over at
- 11:07Bucky's for the grand opening with tech Talk Radio. They love us, We
- 11:11love them. Come on down. As long as you've got an Internet connection,
- 11:16you're good to go. They have made tablet technology so easy to use.
- 11:20You don't do this with a laptop. You do it with a tablet.
- 11:22Now with the power, you know, with the M four inside the
- 11:26iPad pro. You know, they're gonna launch eleven inch tablet for just under
- 11:30one thousand bucks, a thirteen inch tablet for twelve ninety nine. I had
- 11:35the Gen two. I couldn't update it anymore, you know, and it's
- 11:37pretty much a battery life. It'll run for about twenty five minutes. I'm
- 11:41thinking maybe it's time for me to upgrade and try to put myself into the
- 11:46tablet. I remember the very first tablet I had was a Gen one iPad
- 11:52back when I stole work for Apple, and then I remember we were trying
- 11:54to sell them, telling people that well, it's not a replacement for your
- 12:00computer, it's like an interim between. And for the longest time that's been
- 12:03the discussion of tablets. It is an interim between a phone and a computer.
- 12:07It is more powerful than a phone. It is dumber than a computer.
- 12:11And that is pasted. The tablets are are just they're so capable,
- 12:18they're stupid powerful. Like we said earlier, you link it up to the
- 12:22cloud services and for your average everyday user, that's gonna take care of ninety
- 12:28five percent of what you're gonna need. Yeah, and that's been. That's
- 12:31enough. That's like you. I use tablets, don't you? I use?
- 12:35I have, Well, I have a couple. I have one uh
- 12:37that's uh the government gaming and you know, just basic service on it,
- 12:43wireless service. Another one. I have a ten inch tablet that I've been
- 12:46watching streaming on and taking notes and stuff like that. The problem I have
- 12:50is that, to my surprise, I think this tablet has three gigs a
- 12:54RAM and it's it's stuttering on me. I'm sorry, three running three gigs
- 13:00a RAM. That's kind of they don't do that. Did you buy it
- 13:05from China or something? No, it was, I mean it was major
- 13:09brand. I can't even think of it. Rams don't come in odd numbers,
- 13:13dude, No, this one did come with three point Well then you
- 13:16definitely got it from like Timu or something. Oh no, I did not,
- 13:20I do not do no, I I it was probably it's probably older,
- 13:24isn't it. Yeah? Yeah, it's quite a bit, and it's
- 13:28from Ye Wish the Comah. If you guys gonna make me say Amazon,
- 13:33you're gonna make me say I wished for six gig I got three, but
- 13:41that it's gonna be thirteen. And you said thirteen inches on the new iPad.
- 13:43Yeah, third, they'll have a thirteen inch for twelve ninety nine.
- 13:46And that's the largest they've made, right, Uh, yeah, no,
- 13:52it is, it is. It is actually the largest they made. I
- 13:54just I can't wait till they released a fifty inch iPad pro. There was
- 13:58a product we looked at for television some years ago from a company I think
- 14:03it was called Naboo, and it was a tablet that was enormous, but
- 14:07it was for kids. I want to say. It was a twenty inch
- 14:09tablet or maybe even a twenty five inch tablet. And it was funny because
- 14:13they kept telling everybody the new tablets are out, but it was really just
- 14:18for kids, special applications, and I don't know if the company still still
- 14:20makes them. But that was just a lot of fun to have and play
- 14:24around with. That was good. Just waiting for the new Newton, the
- 14:28Newton Newton. The Newton's been around for like that, are they coming back?
- 14:35I just want one. I aways wanted the next. You're gonna want
- 14:41to pomp pilot or I had them all the way up to the last one.
- 14:46Now, Sean, howbout you? How do you use your tablets?
- 14:48I have an iPad Mini two, so the second version of the iPad Mini
- 14:54two, and it is woefully out of date. I can't even get close
- 14:56to the most recent version of I strictly use it for running my mobile plex
- 15:05Raspberry Pie in my camper. Oh there you go. So I have the
- 15:09Raspberry Pie running rasbian and I'm running Actually I'm not running PLEX, it's actually
- 15:16running MB because MB is a little bit more user friendly when you're not connected
- 15:20to the Internet than plexes with updates and anything like that. And then I
- 15:26just connect. I have a TP link Mini Wi Fi router, so it's
- 15:31got one Ethernet port and I plug that into the Pie and then that gives
- 15:35me connectivity there via Ethernet, and then I connect my iPad to it,
- 15:39and I can stream the movies that I have on a one teraby drive.
- 15:43So I plug it all in via twelve volt, and I've got it wired
- 15:48up with adapters and buck converteris and stuff to be all powered over twelve volt.
- 15:54So when we're camping, I can just plug it in and I've got
- 15:56it all the Pelican cases, plug in one cable and all powers up,
- 16:00nick MyPad to it, and I can stream movies on my Yeah. It's
- 16:03kind of a good thought though, what you're talking about. You can actually
- 16:04take older tablets that you could still power up and you could find other uses
- 16:10for them, right, I mean I do, Yeah, you do have.
- 16:14I have mindset up for the home assistant in the in the home,
- 16:17so I've got a couple of tablets mounted to the wall. So I hired
- 16:21an electrician to come out and put like a recessed what do you recessed outlet?
- 16:27Yeah, junks box, yeah, sure, why not? Yeah behind
- 16:30it, and then I just mounted the tablet over the top of it so
- 16:33it stays charged. But yeah, it's an it's an older Amazon Fire.
- 16:37I don't know HD nine, HD ten something like that, whatever, But
- 16:41I just use it just to run Home Assistant bad. All right, we
- 16:45got a question in from Brian. We got a couple of listener questions this
- 16:47week, so I thought we could all kind of chime in on this one.
- 16:51Says Hi, guys, your thoughts on this. I was at a
- 16:52groad sale here at Tucson last week and they had some cool old tech.
- 16:57Oh that's always good to fight to the garage sale, right, I gotta
- 17:04find slick as Newton. I'll give you a fake Dudon said, Uh,
- 17:08I did pass to the old CRT fourteen inch optiquest monitor. No, why
- 17:12would you pass on that? That was a great monitor. But there was
- 17:15a Western Digital my book one terabyte for fifteen bucks. M So the lady
- 17:22said it works. But I'm wondering number one, who sells old storage and
- 17:26what can I do to protect myself when I plug it into my computer?
- 17:30I can answer number one. Number one is old ladies at garage sales that
- 17:34have no idea what they have? You think? So how can I protect
- 17:37myself when I plug it in? That's easy? Yeah, you gotta be
- 17:41really careful about in. Yeah, you gotta be care like finding a USB
- 17:45drive on the street. You never you never take it and plug it into
- 17:48your theater. Yeah, I would not plug it into your main computer.
- 17:51Yeah, by I have a Linux box for that little little stand you know.
- 17:55Yeah, okay, but but okay, let's let's look at you.
- 17:56I understand that's that's that's probably the route that I would. Oh, that's
- 18:00probably the route Matt would go. But if you're talking about a normal user
- 18:03who doesn't have the technical prowess of somebody who might know how to run Linux
- 18:07and whatnot, is there a way to protect yourself with you know, if
- 18:12you want to see what's on it by plugging it into Windows machine? Like
- 18:15what how could you go about doing that? How? How could you do
- 18:19it? Well? Realistically? If you so, if you had like you
- 18:22say, malware bites or Norton or set or or even a Chronus cyber home,
- 18:27if you had that on your computer, would that be enough to protect
- 18:32you? I don't think. I still don't. Well, okay, so
- 18:37the best thing that you could do in this case would be to do something
- 18:41like malwaar bites if I say MBAM, that's what it is. Would be
- 18:45to get something like malware bites, set it up to do an offline scan,
- 18:51which is basically where you will set it up. You'll lug in that
- 18:56drive and the machine reboots and it reboots into I'm honestly not sure iff Mount
- 19:00Warbite still has this anymore, but it will reboot to kind of like a
- 19:03light OS and then yeah, and then it'll scan that drive without initializing it.
- 19:11Matter is that the paid version of the free version. Will they both
- 19:15do it or just one? Is the paid version? The free version is
- 19:19just like your machine is filled with nasty stuff? What are you doing?
- 19:25Let me fix it? But the paid version has a lot more kind of
- 19:29guts to it. I know Akronus has it, but it'll it boots to
- 19:33their own little proprietary OS. I can tell you how that all works,
- 19:38but I'm tired and not I want to. It goes into like some super
- 19:44detail. Yeah, but but there is a way to do it though there
- 19:47probably is. You know, another thought would be building a I don't know
- 19:51if you go through all of this, but it only never helped. It
- 19:53never hurts because I've got one a production machine that is off the network that
- 20:00is just basic Windows, and I could use it to test stuff out.
- 20:04Justin you're having your Tooby. It just no, it just sounds so funny.
- 20:08I spent fifteen dollars at a garage sale to buy a one terrabyte USB
- 20:12drive. Then I took it home and built a seven hundred dollars test machine
- 20:17to plug it into. Well you could do that with an order so much
- 20:19money? Yeah, but she asked us, Yeah yeah he ain' Brian,
- 20:23Brian, Brian, Brian, I'm sorry, Brian asked us. You could
- 20:27if you had an old system leground turn it into a production machine. Just
- 20:32don't put it on the web. Don't put it on the net and test
- 20:33it out that way. I mean, you're taking the chances. But if
- 20:37you really want to use this one terrorbyte, look, Brian, I'm gonna
- 20:40I'm gonna level you. Go ahead, Okay, I'm gonna level with Let
- 20:42really want to test it out, Brian, buy the drive, take it
- 20:47to work and just plug it into your work machine. Oh my god,
- 20:52I'll pick your resume before you do that. The views of Justin Lemmy are
- 20:56not that of tech Talk Radio or this radio station. You remember that one
- 21:00time where I said we're going to live stream this and absolutely get sued.
- 21:06That would do it. That would probably do it right there. I would
- 21:10do it. Do not do that, Brian, Do not do that.
- 21:15It's like I worked for the Department of the Navy. Is that gonna be
- 21:18a problem. You don't look it into I just work at this small place
- 21:22called Quantico. It's completely fine. No, you definitely don't want to do
- 21:27it. I don't know, Brian. You get it at least Brian knew
- 21:33to ask, and Brian is thinking about that. No. Yeah, because
- 21:37I'm pretty sure that maybe somebody that's not as well versabile just see it,
- 21:40think oh, this is great, buy it. And this is the other
- 21:44thing you have to watch out for when you're buying stuff online. You don't
- 21:48know where you really sometimes don't know where this is coming from. Okay,
- 21:53here's what the easiest, easiest way for him to deal with this problem.
- 21:57Look at the one terabyte drive, see that it costs fifteen dollars. Then
- 22:03drive to Walmart and spend eighteen and buy the one terabyte flash drive instead and
- 22:07don't have this problem. Yes, okay, now, but let me let
- 22:11let's let's back up one second. There. Let's let's go look at look
- 22:15at it from a different way. Okay, let's just say he buys the
- 22:18the one teraby drive. Let's say it doesn't have any viruses. Let's just
- 22:22say for a moment that viruses don't exist. Okay, what what if you
- 22:27find something on that drive that he's not supposed to which is a possibility.
- 22:33Yeah, what if there's some illegal content on that drive? Or or what
- 22:40if there's just some personal information or personal information? Yeah? Personal information is
- 22:45one thing. Okay, Like you'd be like, oh wow, this person
- 22:47just gave away a bunch of personal information. But what if there was illegal
- 22:51content? And now that you've plugged it into your computer? M now you
- 22:56might be the person that's in possession of illegal content. And when I say
- 23:00that, I do mean in the worst possible way. You just turned out
- 23:03a very dark corner. But yes, you're right. Unfortunately I have had
- 23:07to deal with this before. So let me tell you exactly what you do.
- 23:11You unplug it, you wrap it up, You put it in a
- 23:15bag. You write where you bought it, if you remember the address of
- 23:19the sale, You write it down when you bought it, what you've done
- 23:23with it so far. You put it off in a corner, and you
- 23:26immediately call your local law enforcement and tell them exactly what happened. I went
- 23:32to a garage sale. There was a hard drive for sale. I bought
- 23:34it. I plugged it in, I found some stuff, and you guys
- 23:40need to come get it right now. Yeah. Yeah, And I have
- 23:42unplugged it. I've put it in a ziploc bag, I've written the information
- 23:47on it, and it's sitting in a corner. I will wait for you
- 23:49to show up. Yeah. And if you're concerned about, well, what
- 23:52if they say that that I put it on there. No, they have
- 23:56forensic tools to know when the files were put on there, that you would
- 23:59know that. No, this person did not put them on there. Sylvia.
- 24:03Don't know when somebody is fixing computers. And I too have been in
- 24:06this similar situation where somebody they divorced, and she had the data. She
- 24:11wanted to go through the data and she's looking at the data while I'm looking
- 24:15at it and I'm showing her what was on it, and it was very
- 24:18uncomfortable. But again, this is something that sometimes tech guys we don't necessarily
- 24:23want or tech girls don't want to see. We don't want to deal with
- 24:26it. But unfortunately that's out there. We did turn a very dark corner.
- 24:30On that, we have another question that's not that bad that actually I
- 24:34think Sean could be a big help for We'll find out more about that when
- 24:37we take a come back from our break. This is Tech Talk Radio.
- 24:41I'm Andy Taylor, I'm Sean de Weird, I'm Matt Jones, I am
- 24:45Slick, and I'm justin lemme. And don't worry. We can always turn
- 24:48a dark corner. We'll be right back now back to tech Talk Radio.
- 24:53So our next question comes from ROBERTA in Tucson. I have internet and cable
- 24:57TV service with Xfinity. I'm sorry, I only have one opinion channel,
- 25:03HBO. They call it Max Now, yeah they do this week. It's
- 25:07getting ridiculous with the bill, and I've been thinking about cutting the cord.
- 25:10I heard one of you talking some time ago about YouTube TV if it were
- 25:14if I was to get rid of the cable boxes and keep my neck connection.
- 25:18Is YouTube easy to navigate? Do I use a box with it?
- 25:21And can I have it on three TVs in the house? Sean, I
- 25:25think this is directly up your alley, buddy. Yeah, so I have
- 25:27had direct experience with this, and I have an update to this because my
- 25:30in laws are moving, so they are still going to keep you GDV in
- 25:34there. Just I'll get into that later. But YouTube TV is just like
- 25:38using your Infinity service. You load the app and you get the guide.
- 25:42You get all the channels, but the guide is much better. Oh but
- 25:48the guide is way better, is it really? Oh? Yeah, the
- 25:51Exfinity that's what That's what my in laws had, and it was awful and
- 25:53they were paying way too much money for not enough content. And they decided
- 25:59to jump the gun and cut cut the cord, so to speak, from
- 26:03Exfinity for TV and they went with YouTube TV. Now, when they first
- 26:07did it, it was not as expensive as it is now, right like
- 26:11every other streaming services has gone up. I think they're paying around sixty eight
- 26:15or seventy dollars a month, and yes, around that, and they have
- 26:22been very happy with it. Right, they can set it up to record
- 26:25their shows a DVRs. It all lives in the cloud, so you can
- 26:30set it up and pretty much however you want. Wait, so you don't
- 26:33have a you don't have a physical DVR. It's actually it all lives in
- 26:37the cloud. How accurate? Remember that thing we said about cloud getting stupid
- 26:42powerful yes, going into everything answer your question and it's it's super accurate.
- 26:49I mean it's just like a regular DVR. I mean yeah, okay to
- 26:53be told like with a with a typical DVR, let's say maybe Exfinity or
- 26:56maybe like what was that other one you know directs? Uh right? What
- 27:00was there? Was big? With TVO, Yeah, you could. You
- 27:03could set it to like record one minute prior or one minute after or whatever.
- 27:08You don't have to worry about with that with ut TV because it knows
- 27:11the program you want to watch and it will record it when it starts and
- 27:15when it ends. It just knows. Now with YouTube TV, and I'm
- 27:21glad Roberta has asked this question. Do you have the capability then of getting
- 27:25local channels or is it going to be depending on where you're at? So,
- 27:29well, it's depending on where you're at, right, So if you're
- 27:33based in Ludington, Michigan, you're gonna get the seven and four out of
- 27:37Traverse City. You're gonna get the nine to ten out of Cadillac, you're
- 27:40gonna get the the ABC affiliate out of gut Rapids. But if you share
- 27:45it like they share it with us, because we share our Disney Plus with
- 27:48them, we get our local TV channels here because it goes based off of
- 27:53your IP address and or however you sign in right, so we get we
- 27:57get the you know, the South Best stations here. They get their local
- 28:00stations. Now occasionally, when you log out or get forced to log out
- 28:06and log back in, it goes based off of the original user's location.
- 28:11So right now, for probably for the next week, we'll be getting the
- 28:15Northern Michigan channels again, until it figures out that we're not actually watching it
- 28:18from burthern Michigan. I thought that was the craziest thing because I also have
- 28:22YouTube TV, right. I cut the court a long time ago. I
- 28:26went just straight over the air for a while, but I decided to go
- 28:27YouTube TV. When I was on vacation in southern California. I brought along,
- 28:34you know, my tablet, and I launched YouTube TV on the tablet,
- 28:37hoping to see you know, my local Denver channel because there was a
- 28:41particular news story I wanted to see, and no, I got Los Angeles
- 28:45Television. I'm like, wait a second, what does this But Sean is
- 28:49right, it's based on your IP address. The other really nice thing about
- 28:53YouTube TV, unlike Comcast is it's not contractual. You pay for the months
- 29:00to months, you don't have a contract with it. I ran it for
- 29:04a while and my favorite thing was during the football season, I would grab
- 29:08the sports package so I could have access to all the football games, red
- 29:14Zone, whatever I wanted to watch, yep. And then as soon as
- 29:17the football season was over, which for the Raiders is way before the season
- 29:21actually ends, which is basically September, you can just go ahead and just
- 29:26go done, and you kick that ad in, you kick off that add
- 29:30on, and then the next month not on your bill. Now. The
- 29:33thing is, though, if you're talking about football, there is something to
- 29:34be said about that. The what is that the Sunday NFL Sunday ticket They
- 29:40have an agreement now with YouTube TV. That is I think the only place
- 29:45to get a Sunday ticket anymore, and they promote the heck out of it
- 29:48now. That is one thing is annoying about it is every time I launch,
- 29:52you know, my Google not not I don't launch YouTube TV, but
- 29:55I have. I use YouTube TV using a Google TV. It's kind of
- 29:59like got Amazon Fire TV stick or a Roker or whatever. But every time
- 30:03I turn on the Google TV. It's like, are you sure you don't
- 30:07want to get Come on, you want to get NFL side a ticket.
- 30:08Here's one hundred dollars off. I'm like, no, I don't care about
- 30:11Sunday ticket, but yes, you can get Sunday ticket. Do you ever
- 30:15do this? You guys ever go to best Buy and you're just walking around
- 30:18taking a look and you hear a clerk helping somebody and they don't know the
- 30:22answer to a question. I try and stay out of there as much as
- 30:27possible. Well, this just happened the other day to be because I was
- 30:30walking and it's only because of Sean. Do I know this because he's been
- 30:33to this before. But I was walking through and I hear a gentleman talking
- 30:38to the sales guy and he's saying, you know, I had dish or
- 30:41direct, I think he said, and I got this. This the sports,
- 30:45and I don't get the sports anymore. They got rid of the Sunday
- 30:48ticket and I heard it. My ears went, you've got to speak up,
- 30:52Andy, you must speak up. And I turned and I walked over
- 30:57because the guy said, I have no I don't know what that is,
- 31:00and I said YouTube TV I said, they actually carry Sunday ticket now and
- 31:04he goes, oh yeah. They go yeah, you could get a subscription
- 31:07and you could go ahead and you could watch it that way with YouTube.
- 31:10He goes, that's great. The other guy said thanks, and then I
- 31:11walked away and you lost that guy's commission. So well, first off,
- 31:17best Buy doesn't work on commission. Second off, it was probably an eighteen
- 31:19year old kid that had no idea about how the world works. But you
- 31:22know, I think it was. But still and confirm, just to let
- 31:27you know the amount of training you go through at best Buy for your department.
- 31:33Like you'd think, like, we're gonna sell computers, we should make
- 31:37sure after the interview process that you know more about computers. Nope, yeah,
- 31:41you know how to spell your name. Good, you're hired. And
- 31:45the guy was talking about having somebody come to his house for the Geek Squad,
- 31:48pay him a hundred bucks and he would help set up his brand new
- 31:52laptop. It's like that famous scene from from Parks and rec where Ron Swanson
- 31:57walks into a home depot and he got I was like, can I help
- 32:00you find something? Sertny guys like I know more than you that's that's that's
- 32:07exactly how I feel when every time I go into best Buy, I'm like,
- 32:08no, I know more than you tell me where this is at.
- 32:12You wear your blue shirt? Yeah right, I burned them in effigy.
- 32:17Yeah, but it's actually it's actually funny you bring up like wanting to send
- 32:22geek Squad agent out there, because I was just reading the other day the
- 32:24best Buy is actually spinning down there the Geek Squad Road Agent division really,
- 32:30which which they call I think it was like mobile Agents. I don't remember.
- 32:34They tried to act like they're the CIA, and they're they're not,
- 32:37with all the names, but they tried too hard to be Chuck. That's
- 32:42the hard Chuck. Whoever wrote Chuck worked at best Buy way too long.
- 32:49Yeah, the number of things they got right, we were just like,
- 32:52oh my god, he's one of us. They understand for those who don't
- 32:55know that's a TV show. That was pretty funny. So yeah, but
- 32:59no, they're they're actually spinning down the mobile unit of geek Squad, so
- 33:04like they'll still have the installers and stuff, but from what it seems like
- 33:07a lot of the in home support they're trying to move that to remote support
- 33:10instead, which we used. The actual code name for that used to be
- 33:15Agent Johnny Utah. And when you would connect to geek Squad, you'd be
- 33:19connecting to some dude in a help center who would always say, Hi,
- 33:22I'm Agent Johnny Utah. I'm here to help you. Oh wow. All
- 33:24right. Now back to Roberta though, with her question about the boxes.
- 33:29You don't so you don't need any kind of box to use YouTube TV.
- 33:32You just need a smart television, okay, So that you do have to
- 33:37have or a a like a Roku fire stick or something like that, or
- 33:40like a YouTube TV app. Right, And the benefit is also you can
- 33:45put it on your iPhone, You can put it on your Android, you
- 33:46can do it whatever you wherever, or your Google phone whatever. You can
- 33:50put it anywhere and get it on the gup too. So well, this
- 33:52I just tied to your house. Right, If you want to watch your
- 33:54favorite show that you missed because you were traveling, blow it up on your
- 33:59app on your phone, which which also means then when you think about it,
- 34:01Roberta would be saving because you have to pay for a DVR. You
- 34:06have to pay for the technology behind the DVR. You have to pay for
- 34:09the cable box if you've got a converter that changes your channels, so she'd
- 34:14be saving money on just those alone. But this makes me think, because
- 34:19I have three four televisions, only two of them have the boxes, so
- 34:23the other ones they have to have a stick on there, and you're stuck
- 34:27with Roku or Amazon. However, if you wanted to get those other channels,
- 34:31just like the cable service, how many can you do on one account?
- 34:37I'm thinking five. I thought it was six. Yeah, wow,
- 34:42I think they might be five. Six might be right, but I think
- 34:44it's five right, But it's enough. I mean, if you've got six
- 34:50TVs, you can afford better stuff. Three three just googled it. They
- 34:53have changed it. Your membership includes up to three simultaneous streams, no chargemaneous
- 35:04three people using it at once for an additional monthly charge. Our four K
- 35:08plus add on unlock unlocks unlimited streams at home, so you can watch YouTube
- 35:14TV on as many compatible screens as you want. And do I have to
- 35:19share one DVR library with my household? Not at all. Your dream library
- 35:23is all yours. That was one thing I really I wanted to bring up
- 35:28with this When you do YouTube TV, you have your own profile. So
- 35:34with with a traditional DVR, let's say with Comcast or Infinity or whoever you're
- 35:37with, you you kind of have to just have the one DVR with all
- 35:40your programs and your husband, your your brother, your your son, your
- 35:45daughter, whatever, you all share it. No YouTube TV, when you
- 35:50go to log in, it'll ask you who's watching, and you pick your
- 35:53profile. Then it shows you not only just your favorite channels, because you
- 35:58can also do your favorite channel, so you only get to see the channels
- 36:01that you want to watch. For Andy, that might be like Hallmark and
- 36:06whatever. I'm sorry, I'm just never going to let you live that down.
- 36:09But if I want to watch like let's say MTV or whatever, that
- 36:15channel is going to be listed as one of my favorites. And I get
- 36:17my own DVR, so the channels and the shows that I've recorded or I've
- 36:22told it to watch, it will be there for me and my whole family
- 36:28won't have to worry about seeing that stuff. All right. Here's another thought
- 36:30though. Obviously she would have to have that relationship with her internet provider,
- 36:36which I mean there are going to be options soon with a starlink and then
- 36:40you've got a more fiber that's going to be available, and then of course
- 36:45you've got Exfinity. If she stays with them. Are you going to chew
- 36:47up more bandwidth though, because you're using YouTube as your official TV provider and
- 36:52could that end up costing you some money? It depends on if you have
- 36:54data caps, because it is going to count as data instead of of you
- 37:00know, just cable. But if we're on the topic of also saving money,
- 37:05I'm ROBERTA. If you are listening, I'm looking at this right now.
- 37:09They have a deal right now fifty seven ninety nine, so fifty eight
- 37:15bucks a month for your first three months, then it's seventy three bucks a
- 37:17month thereafter for the base plan without that four K upgrade we talk So that's
- 37:22only three simultaneous streams, but that's the cost there are well, she got
- 37:29HBO Max, so that well, that's yes, you'd have to add HBO
- 37:30Max in there as well, so there's a there's going to be you know,
- 37:34the charge for that channel as well, but you're not going to be
- 37:37when you look at your Comcast bill, you've got well, this is my
- 37:39plan. And then we talked about the equipment fee, but then you're not
- 37:43going to see like retransmission fees and local cable taxes and da dah da da.
- 37:47Because Comcast is very famous for being like, this will be your bill
- 37:52and then you get it and it's like what what is all this other stuff
- 37:57and they're like, oh, we're so sorry. Charges. Yeah, so
- 38:01there's no there's no extra charges with YouTube TV. It is just that cost.
- 38:07Wow, that's it. I wonder if do they do a trial so
- 38:10if Roberta wanted to give it a spin seven day, yeah, seven day,
- 38:15seven day trial, seven day trials, so give you know, Berberta,
- 38:17it's not going to hurt you to try it out for seven days.
- 38:21See if you could adjust to it and you know, go that route.
- 38:23But now there is a there is a downside though, a little bit to
- 38:28the YouTube TV. We should probably discuss that too. I mean, like
- 38:31we we kind of touched on it a little bit. YouTube TV started out
- 38:35as like what fifty bucks a month for everything, Then it went to fifty
- 38:38five, then it went to sixty, went every sixty five, then it's
- 38:42seventy now seventy five. Now there's there's there's talk about the the FCC is
- 38:47trying to or actually, I'm sorry, so all the local TV stations are
- 38:52trying to get YouTube TV classified as cable television because then they get the the
- 39:00the local channels don't have to fight with the cost of I don't know all
- 39:04the logistics behind it. All I know is that YouTube TV is basically becoming
- 39:09a cable provider. They said that they were the uncable when they first came
- 39:15out, and now they are pretty much the same thing as a cable provider.
- 39:17Which if that's the case, you're going to pass the taxes along to
- 39:21the consumer, right sure, Yeah, that's essentially I don't know if you
- 39:25guys saw, But the FCC also reinstated net neutrality, so I don't know
- 39:31if that's going to come into play as well. But also talking because I
- 39:37want to make sure I get this information. For Roberta. They actually have
- 39:40what they call their Entertainment Plus Bundle, which is Max Paramount plus showtime and
- 39:49Stars for thirty bucks a months. That's actually pretty good, so all for
- 39:53those for an extra thirty So you're looking at when you get out of your
- 39:59trial period, out of the promotional period, you're looking at one hundred and
- 40:02three bucks a months and you're getting it out. Yeah. And also you're
- 40:07talking about HBO Max and you're talking about Paramount Plus, right, Yea.
- 40:09They all have their own apps, right, that have their own content.
- 40:14If you have a YouTube TV subscription, you can sign in to those apps
- 40:19and get the content that isn't available on YouTube TV because you do pay that
- 40:24so you don't have to have Exfinity or whatever cable provider account. YouTube TV
- 40:30classifies as good enough to get you access to those apps because those apps do
- 40:37contain content that isn't available on normal cable television, right, Chun. Your
- 40:43parents they're moving, they're taking this with them, I'm sure, so they're
- 40:46gonna have it even where they end up going. It's worked out really well
- 40:50for them. Yeah, they like it because they get the shows that they
- 40:54want to watch, and with sharing our Netflix, because we paid for Netflix
- 41:02to allow them to have it out of the house, like because Netflix stop
- 41:07people from having it outside of their range or whatever. Right, and they
- 41:13get they want and they don't watch that much TV anyways, but for what
- 41:16they wanted, that was the best and didn't save the money. So you
- 41:20sean your parents when they go on travel with YouTube DV remind me you can
- 41:24actually download your shows, right, like you can download shows offline, so
- 41:29you can watch them without having an Internet connection, right is my understanding?
- 41:32Also, Wow, Okay, that's actually really good deal. I might even
- 41:36do the seven day trip trial myself, Roburton. I'll talk about it next
- 41:39week on the show. See what we think on your new iPad. Andy,
- 41:43Well, if you want to do the seven day trial, who's something
- 41:45I was going to ask the guys. Yeah, so, Andy, if
- 41:46you do the seven day trial, see if you can with your Google account,
- 41:51assign me as a user with my Google account, so that way you
- 41:54could try it out, right, so I don't have to so I don't
- 41:58have to log in with your log in. Just don't get me be mad.
- 42:00If i'm they'll go beyond that seven days. I've had friends that have
- 42:04said, hey, I really want to watch someone Hallmark tonight, can you
- 42:07can I borrow your account? I'm like, yeah, okay, here you
- 42:10go, and then they get mad when I cancel it. No, we
- 42:13just put it on our Google calendar to shut it down on the sixth day.
- 42:15There you go. All right, we gotta take another quick break.
- 42:19We come back with more of Tech Talk Radio. I bought a toy.
- 42:22I've got something to talk about, but it's actually pretty good for the health.
- 42:25That'll be more with tech Talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor, I'm Sean
- 42:29de Weird, I'm mad Jones, I am Slick, and I'm justin.
- 42:32Find us on the web tech talk radio dot com. We'll be right back,
- 42:37and that fact to tech talk Radio. Jessica Fierro is a BAFT writer
- 42:43for Seen It, and she put together an article not long ago. In
- 42:45the article, she talked about the fact that using health apps has helped her
- 42:51focus and stay focused on, you know, getting up and moving and being
- 42:57active. And she got herself an Apple Watch and has been writing about the
- 43:01experience on cnet. Not only the Apple Watch in reminding her to be healthy,
- 43:07reminding her to move, but also finding really cool apps that are different.
- 43:12So you could find Jessica's articles on snet. Well, I recently went
- 43:15through some surgery and it evolved my heart and I wanted to and I've been
- 43:21in this group where they've talked about this particular condition and I thought, you
- 43:24know, I really want to kind of keep an ear and eye on what
- 43:29other people are going through. And I learned that that was a big mistake
- 43:30because everybody is doom and gloom. So I finally decided, okay, I'm
- 43:34gonna go ahead and get myself one, and I got myself the Series nine,
- 43:38Series nine Apple Watch. I got the forty five forty four milimeter,
- 43:43not the forty nine, which is the Ultra, and that's that's a really
- 43:46well received watch. But it's like eight hundred dollars and this one I picked
- 43:51up on sale. It COSTCO for three hundred and fifty bucks, so I
- 43:54think I got a pretty good deal with it. And you know, I
- 43:59used the hell I've been used in the health app on the iPhone, which
- 44:01is good, but I have to tie my cardios system into it for doing
- 44:07you know, scans of the heart and getting an ECG and finding out what's
- 44:10going on. But the Apple Watch is constantly monitoring, and I love that.
- 44:14If I want to take a look and see, okay, what's the
- 44:16heart rate, what's my step count all of that, I can actually see
- 44:21it on the Apple Watches. I was not sure I was going to keep
- 44:24this. I showed it on TV and then I thought, you know what,
- 44:27I'm kind of hooked on it now because it does help you get up,
- 44:30and it does say okay, get moving. And now, justin you
- 44:32have experienced with a couple of different watches. Yeah, well, first,
- 44:37first off, we all know my films on Apple. However, I do
- 44:40like the Apple Watch. I do think the Apple Watch is probably one of
- 44:45their better products in terms of Apple. If you enjoy the Apple Watch,
- 44:50you know, for all, for any reason, even if it's just simply
- 44:53to use it for a health purpose, to be able to remind you to
- 44:57get up and walk around, go for it. I love it. I
- 45:00love that idea behind it. The Apple Watch is cool. I just want
- 45:05to say Android also does it too, you know, like you said,
- 45:07Samsung has their Galaxy Watch, the pixel has the pixel Watch. I do
- 45:13find myself with I have a pixel Watch as well. I do find it
- 45:16lacking in certain areas where I do And please don't tell anybody about this,
- 45:22but I do wish from time to time that I had the Apple Watch,
- 45:25because that is the one product of Apple that I do actually enjoy. So
- 45:29I just want that to be said. Yeah, but I do have experience
- 45:31with them, and yes, I love the fact that even with the Samsung
- 45:36orry, the pixel Watch or the Apple Watch, whatever. I love how
- 45:37they track your health. You know they have the trackers underneath. Now for
- 45:44me, I'm Irish and Norwegian, I'm hairy. I have a lot of
- 45:47hair. I have a problem. I literally have to shave the area underneath
- 45:53my watch sensor because it won't read it sometimes because I have too much hair.
- 45:59Oh wow, it doesn't just snatch it off your wrist or anything.
- 46:01No, it doesn't do that. Now, what is the thing? I
- 46:05follow this on Reddit. A couple of days ago, people posted about on
- 46:08this reddit. There's like a I think it was the Samsung Galaxy, maybe
- 46:12it was a different model, but there was like a watch that exploded or
- 46:15something and like burned a hole in somebody's hand. There were literally like canyons
- 46:22in this guy's hand from the watch battery leaking overnight, and for some stupid
- 46:28reason, the guy never woke up, woke up the next morning with like
- 46:30literally holes in his wrist. Oh my god. And then people were that
- 46:36you posted about it on Reddit, was like, oh, what do you
- 46:37think I should do about this? And they're like, bro, call the
- 46:40watch manufacturer. They take this stuff seriously. And the guy's like, ooh,
- 46:44already destroyed the watch. I'm like, well, you just lost out
- 46:46on one hundred thousand dollars or a million dollars because they take these things extremely
- 46:51seriously. These things are not supposed to happen, and you could have a
- 46:54serious lawsuit on your hands. But my suggested was co doctor, Well not
- 47:00too but after you do that. But no, seriously, watches like this,
- 47:05and I'm sorry, that's as kind of a scare tactic. Do not
- 47:07think about that. That is super super rare. Watches like these are amazing
- 47:13with fitness tracking, tracking your run. I love mine because it's LTE so
- 47:16I don't have to have my phone on me. I can walk away from
- 47:20my phone and if I get a call, oh, just press the button
- 47:22and talk through my watch, like Dick Tracy. There was some confusion about
- 47:25that, and the salesperson and I were talking about it and if some people
- 47:30think they have to get the cellular version, which could be a little pricier
- 47:35for them to be able to use it like with their phone, that's not
- 47:38true. No, if your phone is nearby, it pairs to your phone.
- 47:43You can make phone calls with it. I can ask a question on
- 47:46it, you know, by saying the name of the assistant and it will
- 47:51actually give you the answer. The one other thing that I love about all
- 47:53these wearables, if you're wearing them at night is somebody who struggled with sleep
- 48:00issues for most of their life. Is the sleep tracking. Yeah, I
- 48:04love not only will not only will it be like, hey, you slept
- 48:07well, or you slept for absolute crap. It'll like show you on a
- 48:12graph, Here's how much light sleep you had because of the bud light.
- 48:15Here's how much uh you know, ren deep sleep. Here's where you were
- 48:19tossing and turning. I was keeping my uh was it the Google Nest Hub,
- 48:25the one of the little screen on it next to my bed for ages,
- 48:29because it would detect coughing and snoring and everything else, and it would
- 48:34give you a sleep score the next day. And if you're like, well
- 48:37my score was crap, I'd be like, well, yeah, you had
- 48:40a bright screen on that I could detect until one am. No wonder you
- 48:45didn't sleep well. Here's our recommendations, right, So I completely agree that
- 48:49it's not just like oh I can check my text messages and I can have
- 48:53a call on the go. It's a little mini medkit, ye Shonda or
- 48:59sleep do you guys have an Apple Watch. I do not. Somebody gave
- 49:02me a fit bit or something, so I've been wearing that and uh,
- 49:07you know, just because yeah. Yeah, yeah, so I had a
- 49:13Series three. We bought them in twenty Yeah, so we bought them as
- 49:17first anniversary gifts for each other for in twenty eighteen, and then I didn't
- 49:23buy a new watch until twenty twenty three, so I kept another Apple Watch,
- 49:29right, Yeah, I bought the series eight, so I think they're
- 49:32up to the series nine. Now. I love it. I love it.
- 49:35Yeah, I really enjoyed it because from a social aspect, right,
- 49:38I have an iPhone, so it ties in flawlessly with my messages and all
- 49:42this stuff, and it's easier to be connected in the Wi Fi in the
- 49:47house where at work and be able to receive calls, messages and everything without
- 49:52having my phone tied to me all the time. The benefit is that at
- 49:54work, because we're on we have edge of Rome, which is you university
- 50:00Wi Fi, I could be anywhere on campus and my watch will connect to
- 50:05edgy Rome. So if I forget my phone at my desk, or if
- 50:07I stand up or walk away from my desk and go into our control room
- 50:12or to the other building where we have our other control rooms. I can
- 50:15still get messages and everything on my watch. So your watch is in LTE.
- 50:19No, I don't have the Nolt Watch. Yeah, that's pretty good.
- 50:22I do like it. I think it's a it's a good bye for
- 50:25anybody that just wants to maybe you know, maybe it'll motivate you more.
- 50:29And that's what that article at Sinet said was that it was getting her to
- 50:34say, Oh, I've taken this many steps, I'll take some more.
- 50:37It's like, well, last week we were aired a best of show and
- 50:40it was that show about the watches where you would walk something like fourteen thousand
- 50:44step Shawn. Oh. Yeah. So when I first had when I had
- 50:47my first watch and I was working as a utility for the university and doing
- 50:52all of the setting up the cameras and stuff. The University of Michigan game
- 50:57we played them in the fall of twenty eighteen, walked to like thirty eight
- 51:00thousand steps wait, which is wow, which is like six and a half
- 51:05miles because I had to park far away and then I had to walk back
- 51:07there, and then I had to walk around the stadium sitting everything up,
- 51:09But I wanted to make a quick mention about my dad has the same watch
- 51:14that you have. Andy. He actually he actually can get a HSA,
- 51:17he can spend, he can use his HSA. He used his HSA money
- 51:22to get the watch because he whoa track his hypertechtic cardia. WHOA yeah,
- 51:30whoa because it because it is a medical device. Whoa, Anthony or I'm
- 51:36sorry, Andy, do you have an HSA. I don't. I haven't
- 51:40regular insurance. But still, well you can write it off on Texas right
- 51:45if you have hypertactic cardia or another heart ailment. Uh, my dad has
- 51:51actually registered his hypertechtic cardia with his watch and gone and got it like resolved
- 51:55and things like that. So I think I have hypertractic cardia right now,
- 52:00out just go get myself. That is great. All right, Well you
- 52:02take another quick break. We come back with more of tech Talk Radio.
- 52:06I'm Andy Taylor, I'm Sean de Weird, I'm Matt Jones, I'm slick,
- 52:10and I'm justin. Let me send us an X at tech Talk Radio.
- 52:15We'll be right back and now back to tech Talk Radio. Hey,
- 52:19this is Mike Nelson from Mystery Science Theater and rifftracks dot com and you're listening
- 52:22to the greatest show on the planet, tech Talk Radio. Thanks hanging out.
- 52:28One of the big things that we like to talk about on this show
- 52:30not only the cool tech, the new products, the upcoming products, but
- 52:35also, yeah, we love games and video games are a big part of
- 52:38the technology industry. And one of the big games is Helldiver. Now,
- 52:43actually, you've got some inful on this, so we've talked a little bit
- 52:45about this game on the show in the past. Helldivers too, right,
- 52:47this game kind of came on by storm. Hell Divers was the PlayStation game
- 52:52that came out a handful of years ago. Hell Divers two, very very
- 52:54popular. Sony did a big booboo. Really, Sony came out, so
- 53:00it's on Steam. It's a PC port of a PlayStation game. Sony came
- 53:04out and said, oh, by the way, six months after this game
- 53:07is the number one game on Steam, we're going to make you register a
- 53:10PlayStation network account to access the game. So here's if you don't make your
- 53:15pist of Country team, you can't play it. What here's the real kicking
- 53:21the teeth for that. Sony made that a requirement. It was initially going
- 53:25to be a requirement. They backed off when the game first dropped because it
- 53:29was causing server issues and they had to drop it so the game could actually
- 53:34run. Then they reinstated this and it was supposed to drop on the March
- 53:37sixth update, and the announcement came sometime last week that it was going to
- 53:43be reinstated. So many of the countries that this game was available in that
- 53:49people had already bought the game, put hundreds of hours into the game,
- 53:52PlayStation Network is not available in those countries. Sony had no idea what to
- 53:58do with that. They just said, well it's easy, just make a
- 54:00PSN account. And you had people in you know something is Stan who were
- 54:04like, well, you don't have PlayStation Network in in my country, so
- 54:07what am I supposed to do? So, for one of the first times
- 54:10in a long time, Sony back down. The player base of hell Divers
- 54:16too as a loyal Helldiver spreading managed democracy it the fan base did so much
- 54:24review bombing on Steam that it went from overwhelmingly positive for both sets or reviews
- 54:30it is now overwhelmingly negative in both sets or reviews. That takes a lot.
- 54:37The community manager on the official discord was like, well, just ask
- 54:42for Steam refunds and review bomb it and I think they actually is just seeing
- 54:47a post Spitz just lost his job. But for the first time, the
- 54:52player base linked up and Sony back down. Oh wosh amazing. All right,
- 54:57Soner, remind you too if you've got a question for the show,
- 55:00it is super easy. All you have to do is drop us an email.
- 55:02It's tech guys at tech talk radio dot com. That's T E C
- 55:07H T A L K R A d I O dot com. Any question
- 55:12that you may have when it comes to technology, if we'll we'll take it
- 55:15up with the show and hopefully we'll be able to help you in the solution
- 55:19for the question that you are seeking. That's it for this week's tech Talk
