Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: The Twins take two out of three in Houston. After
- 0:04Speaker 1: a fantastic and record setting start for TODJ. Bradley on
- 0:08Speaker 1: Wednesday night on the road, they now head off to
- 0:11Speaker 1: New York to play the hated Yankees for three games,
- 0:15Speaker 1: the struggling Yankees. I should add as well, This is
- 0:18Speaker 1: Zach Pierce of the Athletic with Dan Hayes, the Athletics,
- 0:21Speaker 1: Minnesota Twins Beat writer, and this is Twin City's Territory
- 0:24Speaker 1: You're Minnesota Twins podcast here on the Foul Territory Network.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Tyler Duffy was going to be here with us today
- 0:30Speaker 1: but he had technical issues, so no Tyler today, but
- 0:33Speaker 1: we will get a video from him that will be
- 0:35Speaker 1: at the end of the show talking about some Yankee
- 0:38Speaker 1: stadium stories and what it's like playing against that team
- 0:41Speaker 1: with the history this franchise has against it. But first,
- 0:44Speaker 1: Dan Twins won the rubber game in Houston and Wednesday
- 0:47Speaker 1: they're forty two and forty six, still four and a
- 0:50Speaker 1: half out in the Central, two and a half out
- 0:52Speaker 1: in the Wildcard, but they started off this twelve game
- 0:55Speaker 1: stretch to the All Star Break here with a much
- 0:59Speaker 1: needed series victory.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Yeah, same record as last year. As of right now,
- 1:03Speaker 2: and I think they're in a much different spot than
- 1:08Speaker 2: that club was because that club had expectations. This club
- 1:11Speaker 2: is feeling good right now. And you know, you co
- 1:14Speaker 2: go through Arizona and Texas and Houston and all teams.
- 1:19Speaker 2: You know, Arizona was the most above five hundred at
- 1:22Speaker 2: the time of but all three teams sort of in
- 1:24Speaker 2: that same area as they are and to come away
- 1:27Speaker 2: with three series victories and you know, realistically could have
- 1:30Speaker 2: won that Dodger series as unfortunate the Zebe Matthews game
- 1:33Speaker 2: didn't go their way. But they really have played pretty
- 1:37Speaker 2: well of late, and you know, dating back to June one,
- 1:41Speaker 2: they're fifteen and thirteen, so they're they're hanging in and
- 1:44Speaker 2: it's all beyond this because this offense is thriving right now.
- 1:49Speaker 2: And Barron Buckston, we talked about it on the show
- 1:52Speaker 2: the other day, but Barron Buckston has the ultimate confidence
- 1:56Speaker 2: in his team to the point where he doesn't feel
- 1:58Speaker 2: like he has to be Superman right now and play
- 1:59Speaker 2: three through injury and potentially make that hip worse. And
- 2:04Speaker 2: it's because he thinks guys are going to pick him up.
- 2:06Speaker 2: And what did they do? Yet again, you know, they
- 2:08Speaker 2: scored five in the series an opener against Houston, they
- 2:11Speaker 2: came back and had four. The offense wasn't the reason
- 2:14Speaker 2: why they lost on Tuesday night, and then they scored
- 2:17Speaker 2: eight in the finale on Wednesday, and Josh Bell got
- 2:21Speaker 2: him started early with that monster home run. That's the
- 2:23Speaker 2: best home run we've seen from him, four under and
- 2:26Speaker 2: fifty two feet over the batter's eye.
- 2:27Speaker 1: I think the video behind the dugout.
- 2:30Speaker 2: Yeah, that was so great, Like, you know, you could
- 2:33Speaker 2: tell he's pumped. He got to play in front of
- 2:34Speaker 2: his family, both in Arlington and in Houston, and Josh
- 2:38Speaker 2: was just I mean, he was outstanding in all six
- 2:42Speaker 2: games in Texas, and you know, if you're a Texas team,
- 2:45Speaker 2: you might want to think about signing him in the future.
- 2:48Speaker 2: He's played a lot of places, He's not played in
- 2:49Speaker 2: Texas yet, but that was really cool. And then an
- 2:52Speaker 2: inning later, another family moment when Cody Clemens homeer in
- 2:56Speaker 2: the front of Roger Clemens. The one that was more
- 2:59Speaker 2: important to Cody because he said he's lost count now
- 3:02Speaker 2: and we're only talking about going back to last year
- 3:04Speaker 2: where he's homeward in front of Dad, but that's already
- 3:07Speaker 2: lost Uh, it's luster for him because he's done it
- 3:10Speaker 2: handful of times. He's lost count of how many he's
- 3:13Speaker 2: homeward in front of Roger. It's at least five or
- 3:15Speaker 2: six now. But Grandma was there last night, his mom's
- 3:18Speaker 2: mom was there, and Derek Shelton met Nana before the game,
- 3:22Speaker 2: and uh so Cody gave her a shout out after
- 3:25Speaker 2: the game saying, Nana is the goat. You just saw
- 3:27Speaker 2: it keep going. Luke Keishall had a big home run late.
- 3:32Speaker 2: You know, it wasn't all easy last night. TOAJ Bradley
- 3:34Speaker 2: was outstanding. We'll talk about that in a minute here.
- 3:36Speaker 2: But TODs Bradley was phenomenal. But the bullpen struggled a
- 3:42Speaker 2: little bit. The defense tried to give some outs away
- 3:45Speaker 2: and for a little bit there was consternation in there.
- 3:47Speaker 2: But Luke Keishall made a fantastic running catch at one
- 3:51Speaker 2: point in the fifth inning catch TOAJ Bradley gave him
- 3:54Speaker 2: the TODJ. Bradley gave him the glove.
- 3:56Speaker 3: Yeah, he was very.
- 3:59Speaker 2: He was. I mean, lu Keisha went far for that.
- 4:02Speaker 2: But then Lukey was.
- 4:04Speaker 1: Just like surprised, like wow, somebody other than Buckston.
- 4:08Speaker 2: No, because the one thing that's really true is Lukey
- 4:11Speaker 2: Shall might be Lukey Sholl is their second best athlete
- 4:15Speaker 2: on this team. He's faster than Austin Martin is. Austin
- 4:18Speaker 2: Martin's a really good athlete too, But Lukey Show's faster
- 4:20Speaker 2: than Austin Martin. And man, like you could see it,
- 4:25Speaker 2: like he's just looked good in right field. I wrote
- 4:27Speaker 2: about that a little bit today since he's been there.
- 4:30Speaker 2: He had the one miss play over the weekend against
- 4:32Speaker 2: Colorado turned a potential double into a triple. But we
- 4:35Speaker 2: saw him learn from that already. I just think that
- 4:38Speaker 2: that was the picture happy reaction. Like, guys, you know,
- 4:43Speaker 2: I loved hearing it. I used to cover Mike Cameron
- 4:46Speaker 2: way back in the day for the Yeah And I
- 4:52Speaker 2: remember one time that Scott linbrink another and we'll go
- 4:55Speaker 2: another way back name said he's saved my bacon so
- 4:58Speaker 2: many times. Pictures just love it when their outfielders run
- 5:01Speaker 2: down baseballs. So I think that was just an appreciation
- 5:04Speaker 2: for Luke Kishall going probably seventy five feet. I don't know.
- 5:08Speaker 2: I wish that we had stat cast because he went
- 5:11Speaker 2: a long way and it was full sprint and then
- 5:13Speaker 2: slide on the track to make that catch. But it
- 5:16Speaker 2: was just a good win, a feel good victory. They
- 5:19Speaker 2: needed it, especially going into the Yankee Stadium, and you know,
- 5:23Speaker 2: their vibes are good. And I know we've talked about
- 5:26Speaker 2: this a lot, but I mean, it just feels so
- 5:28Speaker 2: much different than last year's forty two and forty six.
- 5:31Speaker 2: That team had so much expectations. This team came in
- 5:34Speaker 2: with fewer expectations. The offense is thriving. The offense hasn't
- 5:38Speaker 2: thrived like this with Twins probably since the Bomba squad
- 5:41Speaker 2: in twenty nineteen. And when you have a group like
- 5:45Speaker 2: that going, you know, where a bunch of guys are contributing,
- 5:49Speaker 2: it's infectious, and you know, if they can keep it going,
- 5:52Speaker 2: it can be the thing that props them up and
- 5:54Speaker 2: helps mask some of the flaws that we've talked about
- 5:57Speaker 2: that they just need to do that all year. They
- 5:59Speaker 2: need to hit to help overcome the shortcomings in the
- 6:02Speaker 2: bullpen or the flawed defense. And you know, they did
- 6:06Speaker 2: it in this series enough to win the series.
- 6:09Speaker 1: I always, I always love when guys make the catch
- 6:14Speaker 1: and then dive or slide, and I like to snicker
- 6:17Speaker 1: about it, but I think Keishal's was legitimate. He was
- 6:21Speaker 1: full speed, Yeah, like the ball was kind of behind him,
- 6:24Speaker 1: and also I'm sure he could feel the start. I
- 6:27Speaker 1: think he was right on the edge of the warning track,
- 6:29Speaker 1: so he's probably worried the walls back there. But it
- 6:31Speaker 1: was just a great play, especially considering it's a relatively
- 6:34Speaker 1: new position for him, or at least, you know, not
- 6:38Speaker 1: as frequent of one for him this season. Go ahead, Nan,
- 6:42Speaker 1: you're about to say something.
- 6:43Speaker 2: No, he yeah, he like he's expressed confidence. He feels
- 6:47Speaker 2: good and comfortable. And I thought the play in the
- 6:50Speaker 2: second inning represented it even more than that. Cam Smith
- 6:54Speaker 2: hit that screamer to write off the right handed bat,
- 6:57Speaker 2: and it was going for that right right field corner,
- 7:00Speaker 2: and he knew it was either going to be a
- 7:03Speaker 2: home run or that it was going to be off
- 7:06Speaker 2: the wall. And the other day at home he went
- 7:09Speaker 2: back on a ball and Kram passed him towards the
- 7:13Speaker 2: enfield and led to a triple and that run scored
- 7:15Speaker 2: and it was three to one Rockies at that point.
- 7:17Speaker 2: And that was the disaster game against the Rockies. The
- 7:20Speaker 2: not the disaster where they nearly blew the or where
- 7:23Speaker 2: they blew the seven run lead, but the middle disaster
- 7:26Speaker 2: and he backed off on this ball and knew to
- 7:30Speaker 2: play it off the wall almost. You know, Cam Smith's
- 7:32Speaker 2: fast guy. He almost got him in second base. But
- 7:34Speaker 2: you can tell he's already just learning from the experiences
- 7:37Speaker 2: and it's benefiting him. And you know, he's looking like,
- 7:43Speaker 2: you know, a guy that can be a guy out there.
- 7:45Speaker 2: Because Max Kepler owned right field for so long and
- 7:50Speaker 2: Matt Walner we've talked about his struggles defensively this year.
- 7:52Speaker 2: You know, he's the worst outfield defender in baseball. This
- 7:56Speaker 2: is the opposite of that. And you know, Luke Keishall's
- 7:59Speaker 2: getting on base a ton to boot right now. So
- 8:03Speaker 2: he's making himself very valuable in just a short time
- 8:06Speaker 2: in right field.
- 8:09Speaker 1: The Twins efficient night eight runs on eight hits, drew
- 8:14Speaker 1: a bunch of walks as well. Three of those hits
- 8:15Speaker 1: were from Trevor Larnick, who just continues to rake up
- 8:19Speaker 1: to two ninety one on the year, and I was
- 8:22Speaker 1: just trying to look up. I think he's his average
- 8:25Speaker 1: is up like fifty points in the last two weeks.
- 8:30Speaker 1: Yeah he was. He was hitting two forty eight on
- 8:33Speaker 1: May twenty second, and yeah, he was still. Oh, he's
- 8:37Speaker 1: still still hitting two forty nine on June thirteenth, So
- 8:40Speaker 1: there you go.
- 8:41Speaker 2: Yes, that road trip to Dallas and Arizona got him going.
- 8:45Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:45Speaker 2: And I mean he had the third highest average in
- 8:48Speaker 2: the American League in June. And I told him that
- 8:51Speaker 2: yesterday because we did the month end of the or
- 8:53Speaker 2: the Player of the Month awards. We vote on them
- 8:56Speaker 2: every month, hit her, pitcher, rookie, and reliever, and he
- 9:00Speaker 2: was third in the ALE and average behind Yondi Diaz
- 9:04Speaker 2: and Jordan Alvarez. That's good territory to be in. Not
- 9:08Speaker 2: as good as Twin Cities territory, but it's good territory
- 9:10Speaker 2: to be in. And one he yeah, he loves like
- 9:16Speaker 2: Trevor is not. Trevor is the kind of guy that
- 9:18Speaker 2: if you tell him a good stat about himself, he
- 9:20Speaker 2: always thanks you. And you can tell he digs it
- 9:23Speaker 2: hearing it. He's not seeking it. He doesn't ever. I
- 9:26Speaker 2: just like I recognized if you talk to him about
- 9:29Speaker 2: a playing and you're like, hey, that was a really
- 9:30Speaker 2: nice play, he appreciates it. He likes hearing that stuff,
- 9:33Speaker 2: but he uh, you know, and then we were talking
- 9:36Speaker 2: about it afterwards. I was like, at one point you
- 9:38Speaker 2: were seven fifteen July when he missed out and has
- 9:41Speaker 2: lasted bat So he's only carrying a six hundred average
- 9:45Speaker 2: so far in July, going three for five last night.
- 9:47Speaker 2: But he's been another guy. I mean, it's just that's
- 9:50Speaker 2: the part that you can find so many different guys
- 9:53Speaker 2: that are doing well. And you know, when we were
- 9:56Speaker 2: looking at the ops is for June, I felt bad
- 9:59Speaker 2: because Alex Jackson was like a seven eighty and it
- 10:02Speaker 2: was like I couldn't include him in my list of
- 10:04Speaker 2: guys that were eight hundred because it's so much cleaner
- 10:07Speaker 2: to say guys who are above eight hundred. But he
- 10:10Speaker 2: had a seven eighty. Like this is a guy who
- 10:12Speaker 2: has never really hit in the majors and he is hitting.
- 10:15Speaker 2: He had a good year last year with Baltimore, but
- 10:17Speaker 2: it was in you know, sparing time, and but you
- 10:20Speaker 2: just look around and they are hitting a ton. It's
- 10:24Speaker 2: a if. Do we have time before the break here
- 10:27Speaker 2: to talk about TAJ or should we do taj R.
- 10:29Speaker 1: I'll take the break and we'll talk about Taj. But
- 10:31Speaker 1: just last thing about Larnick, Like Buxton is clearly number
- 10:35Speaker 1: one on the All Star list, at least among hitters
- 10:37Speaker 1: just because of the home runs. But Larnick, I mean.
- 10:41Speaker 2: It's really good.
- 10:42Speaker 1: It is a piece should be right there too.
- 10:45Speaker 2: I mean, he's been outstanding. He look, he hits rockets
- 10:49Speaker 2: like everything you see it. They are just he's got
- 10:53Speaker 2: that swing. And I remember thinking it when they drafted him,
- 10:56Speaker 2: when we saw him in spring, that he had the
- 10:58Speaker 2: hit factor. It really has never been amazing at the
- 11:02Speaker 2: major league level, but he's always been a consistent guy,
- 11:04Speaker 2: and it's clear this year that he sacrificed some power
- 11:08Speaker 2: to just be a better hitter. And man, he is
- 11:10Speaker 2: hitting the ball well and he's running well, which helps
- 11:13Speaker 2: because in the past he's had a bunch of foot
- 11:15Speaker 2: stuff that slowed him down. But he is, you know,
- 11:20Speaker 2: he's coming to his own, especially as a hitter, and
- 11:22Speaker 2: knows what he wants to do. And when they're facing
- 11:24Speaker 2: the writing they put him at the top, there's a
- 11:26Speaker 2: pretty good chance that they feel like he's gonna get
- 11:28Speaker 2: on base. So's it's been one of his best stretches
- 11:32Speaker 2: for sure the last two and a half three weeks,
- 11:34Speaker 2: and he's set in the table for them.
- 11:37Speaker 1: We'll take a quick break come back talk Taj Bradley
- 11:39Speaker 1: Byron Buxton and more on Twin Cities Territory right after this.

- 12:42Speaker 4: Thank you to ze geek.
- 12:49Speaker 1: Dan. The other biggest thing from Wednesday night a fantastic
- 12:53Speaker 1: outing from Taj Bradley was injured a little while ago,
- 12:56Speaker 1: came back, had some rough outings, has been really good lately,
- 12:59Speaker 1: and Wednesday was the cherry on top so far.
- 13:03Speaker 2: He three weeks ago. I remember talking to you about
- 13:07Speaker 2: it after Detroit where he had that start where he
- 13:09Speaker 2: was just flustered and had no answers about what was
- 13:13Speaker 2: going wrong and was just confessed to me and a
- 13:17Speaker 2: freelance reporter that was there, like, guys, I got nothing,
- 13:20Speaker 2: we have to go back in review. Yeah, and you
- 13:23Speaker 2: know it was it was a very honest moment, And like,
- 13:26Speaker 2: I wonder if that like sometimes you're talking your stuff out.
- 13:30Speaker 2: Because he found it immediately and he acknowledged it, like
- 13:33Speaker 2: the middle of the week. He's like, maybe it's just
- 13:36Speaker 2: like you say it and you admit the issue and
- 13:39Speaker 2: then you're able to get past it. I don't know
- 13:41Speaker 2: if that's something, because he really did. I'm not trying
- 13:44Speaker 2: to make this a mean thing. I think in the moment,
- 13:47Speaker 2: like he just was able to vocalize that he had
- 13:50Speaker 2: no answers at that time, and it was like he
- 13:52Speaker 2: let go, and man, he's been outstanding ever since. Like
- 13:56Speaker 2: the next outing was Saint Louis and it wasn't perfect,
- 13:59Speaker 2: but it was like Taj was back, the early version
- 14:02Speaker 2: of him was back, and he said that he saw
- 14:05Speaker 2: light at the end of the tunnel, and like I
- 14:07Speaker 2: wrote it today, he's been speeding through that tunnel ever since.
- 14:12Speaker 2: And the only thing slowing him down right now is
- 14:15Speaker 2: this offense just dragging out innings and making him sit
- 14:18Speaker 2: on the bench forever. It's like, can we get Taj
- 14:22Speaker 2: Bradley a normal quick inning? And of course he wants
- 14:26Speaker 2: the runs. He doesn't want to he doesn't. He's not
- 14:30Speaker 2: complaining about him at all, but he's having to be
- 14:33Speaker 2: inventive in finding ways of staying hot in between innings
- 14:36Speaker 2: right now, because you know, he warms up in the
- 14:38Speaker 2: bullpen last night and the offense came out and Bell
- 14:42Speaker 2: hit the two out, two run homer, and then the
- 14:45Speaker 2: Twins loaded the bases after that. They sent eight men
- 14:47Speaker 2: to the plate in the first inning against Emi, and
- 14:51Speaker 2: like they looked good and it was a long inning.
- 14:53Speaker 2: So Taj of course went and threw some pitches in
- 14:57Speaker 2: the hallway tunnel on the way to the clubhouse, and
- 15:01Speaker 2: then you recognizing it was a long inning, he couldn't
- 15:05Speaker 2: throw any more pitches. He's by the way wearing a
- 15:08Speaker 2: towel at this point to stay warm. And what he
- 15:12Speaker 2: said he does if it's a really long inning and
- 15:14Speaker 2: he needs to stay loose and warm, he'll start doing
- 15:16Speaker 2: some of his dynamic exercises to stay loose and hot.
- 15:21Speaker 2: And he's been doing an awful lot of that because
- 15:24Speaker 2: if you remember, he was on the mound for the
- 15:26Speaker 2: seven run game against Colorado that the bullpen blew and
- 15:29Speaker 2: then they won on the Friday night in extras, and
- 15:33Speaker 2: he was on the mound for the ten run inning
- 15:35Speaker 2: in Arizona, the night when they set their season high
- 15:37Speaker 2: and runs and hits. So his last three starts have
- 15:40Speaker 2: been carbon copies. And the thing that has been awesome
- 15:44Speaker 2: is that just the performance he's put up in each
- 15:46Speaker 2: of those games in spite of really challenging conditions. I mean,
- 15:50Speaker 2: to sit for twenty minutes in between innings can be
- 15:54Speaker 2: very challenging for a pitcher. You find a rhythm, you attack,
- 15:59Speaker 2: you might lose your deliver, you might just get out
- 16:01Speaker 2: of sorts. Maybe you lose it mentally, there's there's so
- 16:05Speaker 2: many factors and he has not lost it. You know,
- 16:09Speaker 2: in the middle of that start, he struck out ten
- 16:11Speaker 2: batters in a row. He recorded I was it was
- 16:14Speaker 2: recorded to consecutive outs, yes, because there were fourteen batters.
- 16:19Speaker 2: It was over the stretch of fourteen batters. He gave
- 16:21Speaker 2: up I think two hits and walked to in that stretch.
- 16:24Speaker 2: But all ten outs that he recorded the last out
- 16:27Speaker 2: of the first inning, all the way through the fourth
- 16:29Speaker 2: were all strikeouts and he was just dominant. I mean
- 16:32Speaker 2: it was. That's a powerful, good lineup there, fourth in
- 16:35Speaker 2: the American League, and home runs, they score a lot
- 16:37Speaker 2: of runs. I don't know how you get Jordan Alvarez
- 16:40Speaker 2: out right now. He's incredible. It's scary every time he
- 16:44Speaker 2: comes to the plate, and they're thrilled that they are
- 16:47Speaker 2: done with him for the regular season. You know, they
- 16:50Speaker 2: don't face him again. They already faced him in May
- 16:52Speaker 2: and now they faced him here. But he just carried it.
- 16:56Speaker 2: And you know, to be at ten strikeouts after four
- 16:59Speaker 2: and the only thing it did was run up his
- 17:00Speaker 2: pitch count a little bit. But I think if they
- 17:03Speaker 2: hadn't been up by such a big score, maybe they
- 17:06Speaker 2: would have tried to squeeze a sixth inning out of him.
- 17:09Speaker 2: He was that good. And afterwards I loved his quote
- 17:13Speaker 2: and he said we Matthew Leach was there and asked
- 17:17Speaker 2: with me, you know you struggle for a little bit.
- 17:21Speaker 2: Do you feel like you were at the point where
- 17:24Speaker 2: are you? Are you getting back to where you want
- 17:26Speaker 2: to be? Like how do you feel? And this quote
- 17:29Speaker 2: was perfect and let me just find it here and
- 17:31Speaker 2: read it. He said, I feel like I'm right where
- 17:35Speaker 2: I want to be mentally or need to be mentally,
- 17:37Speaker 2: physically everything he said, I'm not closer. I'm at the
- 17:41Speaker 2: destination now. I'm just keeping it knowing who I am
- 17:46Speaker 2: and staying on that track. And I was like, that
- 17:48Speaker 2: was just an amazing quote. I mean, this guy clearly
- 17:53Speaker 2: has found something this year with the Twins. And when
- 17:56Speaker 2: he is going like this, you know they are a
- 17:59Speaker 2: hard team to be.
- 18:01Speaker 1: Yeah, it seemed like the right call. He was right
- 18:03Speaker 1: out one hundred pitches, just shy he'd been, Yeah, had
- 18:05Speaker 1: all those long waits like you mentioned, the game was
- 18:08Speaker 1: taking forever like five innings. Done, good job, big Lea.
- 18:12Speaker 1: Let the bullpen take it from there. But Bradley now
- 18:15Speaker 1: seven three eight, six ERA in sixteen starts for the Twins,
- 18:22Speaker 1: seven wins.
- 18:23Speaker 2: Strikeouts innings. It's because it's got to be more than one.
- 18:27Speaker 1: Hundred and two strikeouts in eighty eight and two thirds innings.
- 18:32Speaker 2: It is. Look, I love Gryffin Jacks. I love what
- 18:35Speaker 2: Griffin Jacks brought to this team. But that trade is
- 18:38Speaker 2: looking very good for the Twins right now because Taj
- 18:42Speaker 2: Bradley has multiple more years and Gryffin Jackson is a
- 18:45Speaker 2: free agent after next year, and he has been looking
- 18:48Speaker 2: pretty solid himself. Pitching at a starter for the Rays.
- 18:52Speaker 2: That's something that had been talked about a little bit here,
- 18:55Speaker 2: and Jackson even considered it, and they're having him do it.
- 18:59Speaker 2: But I mean todsh Bradley's younger, Tosh Bradley is rolling
- 19:02Speaker 2: in his arsenal. He blew one hundred by guys at
- 19:05Speaker 2: the top of the zone yesterday multiple times. When Duff,
- 19:08Speaker 2: when Duff is reacting, Duff was sitting next to me
- 19:11Speaker 2: at that game. And when Duff is reacting the way
- 19:13Speaker 2: he was, you know how good it is because Duff
- 19:16Speaker 2: is pretty. He's pretty. He keeps it close to the
- 19:19Speaker 2: best unless somebody really sucks. But he doesn't seem to
- 19:24Speaker 2: be easily impressed. I mean, he played with some really
- 19:26Speaker 2: hard throwers and he when Bradley threw that hundred was
- 19:31Speaker 2: his reaction was genuine like wow, where did that come from?
- 19:34Speaker 2: And you know we've seen it a lot this year.
- 19:37Speaker 1: This is Bradley's fourth season and he's one win away
- 19:40Speaker 1: from tying his career high already, which came in twenty
- 19:43Speaker 1: twenty four with Tampa Bay. So two point zero on
- 19:48Speaker 1: the war according to Baseball Reference, pretty good for reliever trade.
- 19:53Speaker 1: I would say.
- 19:55Speaker 2: Fourth season, but after this year he will only have
- 19:59Speaker 2: three three plus years of service time, so Twins have
- 20:04Speaker 2: him for three more years after this before he would
- 20:06Speaker 2: become a free agent, which is very encouraging. That's why
- 20:09Speaker 2: they made the trade.
- 20:12Speaker 1: The other notable thing from Wednesday night you probably missed
- 20:15Speaker 1: this dan being at the game and not watching it
- 20:17Speaker 1: on TV, but Corey provis not a World Cup guy.
- 20:21Speaker 1: We learned last night because the US men's national team
- 20:26Speaker 1: game ended during the Twins Astros game, so they talked
- 20:29Speaker 1: about it on air and Anthony Recer had to educate
- 20:32Speaker 1: him on many things World Cup, including the US's next opponent.
- 20:36Speaker 1: But Provos was a good sport about it. And you know,
- 20:39Speaker 1: I think he might be a fan now going forward.
- 20:41Speaker 1: So next time you see him, just just be aware
- 20:44Speaker 1: he can't hang with you in the World Cup. Talk Dan,
- 20:46Speaker 1: you because you are somebody, of course who almost bought
- 20:48Speaker 1: tickets to a game, so you know a lot.
- 20:52Speaker 2: Hey, I will tell you that my interest is peaked
- 20:56Speaker 2: with this. This is the most wins right by the
- 20:58Speaker 2: US and any World Cup correct.
- 21:00Speaker 1: The three?
- 21:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I know, look, look, I know there's
- 21:05Speaker 2: extra rounds, Okay, I get it. But this is the
- 21:07Speaker 2: best team that we've had in our lifetime.
- 21:10Speaker 1: I think it legitimately is the best team they've had.
- 21:13Speaker 1: It just also happens to be the expanded World Cup
- 21:15Speaker 1: where it's of.
- 21:16Speaker 2: Course, it feels like it feels like there's so many
- 21:20Speaker 2: guys that can score. And the free kick, especially when
- 21:24Speaker 2: you're down one of your best strikers. It's not your
- 21:27Speaker 2: best striker, that's free kick. That's amazing. You should see
- 21:31Speaker 2: You should have seen it in the press box. It
- 21:33Speaker 2: was hilarious because the press box WiFi was so slow
- 21:38Speaker 2: because everybody was watching the game on their damn computers.
- 21:42Speaker 2: And I turned to Leach and Brian McTaggert from MLB
- 21:45Speaker 2: at the end and I'm like, guys, WiFi is about
- 21:47Speaker 2: to get a hell of a lot better. This match
- 21:49Speaker 2: is almost over and what do you know, it's sped
- 21:51Speaker 2: up like just ten times. So many people were watching it.
- 21:55Speaker 2: Houston's a pretty big soccer city Mexico player. The night
- 21:58Speaker 2: before when we left, there were so many fans that
- 22:01Speaker 2: come downtown to watch Mexico and man, I do not
- 22:05Speaker 2: I do not envy England going to Mexico City.
- 22:08Speaker 1: It's going to be amazing the stuff they.
- 22:11Speaker 2: Pulled off against Ecuador. Stuff the fans did, staying up
- 22:15Speaker 2: all night playing music and move Azelda's outside the hotel
- 22:19Speaker 2: and then intentionally creating a traffic jam so that the
- 22:22Speaker 2: bus was late to the game, Like like that's that
- 22:27Speaker 2: is amazing stuff. Ye, so yeah, it's easy to get
- 22:30Speaker 2: into it. I'll have to give Corey some crap about this.
- 22:33Speaker 1: I said England might be better off just hanging out
- 22:35Speaker 1: in Atlanta until the morning of the game and then
- 22:38Speaker 1: but you know, yeah, altitude, acclimate, all that. I get
- 22:41Speaker 1: it off of the World Cup Talk not a World
- 22:45Speaker 1: Cup Cut podcast, but we do have a little bit
- 22:47Speaker 1: of an update on Byron Buxton and what's going on
- 22:49Speaker 1: with him? He's been out last couple of games. Dan,
- 22:51Speaker 1: What what do we hear yesterday from Derek Shelton.
- 22:55Speaker 2: Yeah, so chill. Derek Shelton the other day left some
- 22:59Speaker 2: wiggle room in when he talked about it that I
- 23:03Speaker 2: took it first to think, man, you know, he said,
- 23:05Speaker 2: we're in a weird spot where we have a day
- 23:07Speaker 2: off today Thursday, and then we have a day off Monday.
- 23:10Speaker 2: And I was like, Oh, that means they think they
- 23:11Speaker 2: could maybe manage him and he'll come back in New
- 23:14Speaker 2: York and play Friday and maybe Sunday, and then with
- 23:17Speaker 2: the day off, you know, maybe they do Friday and
- 23:19Speaker 2: Saturday and then. But then I recognized maybe Shelton was
- 23:24Speaker 2: talking about, well, we are we have these two off days,
- 23:27Speaker 2: so Byron would only miss eight games if we put
- 23:30Speaker 2: him on the aisle for ten. And so I asked
- 23:32Speaker 2: him about that in the manager session pregame if that
- 23:35Speaker 2: was why he kind of left that wiggle room in there,
- 23:38Speaker 2: and he said that it was a possibility, of course,
- 23:41Speaker 2: but they weren't there because they'd seen progress from Byron
- 23:45Speaker 2: Buckson with his hip impingement, and so they weren't even
- 23:49Speaker 2: remotely thinking that. As of Wednesday, I think going to
- 23:52Speaker 2: New York, the flight to New York, Man, they got
- 23:55Speaker 2: in super late, like they were scheduled. If the game
- 23:58Speaker 2: had been on time, it was gonna be like a
- 23:59Speaker 2: three forty five am arrival in New York. And then
- 24:02Speaker 2: the game went ridiculously slow. So I bet you they
- 24:06Speaker 2: didn't get their hotel until four thirty. But we'll see
- 24:08Speaker 2: how he responds after them play, right they don't correct, Yeah,
- 24:13Speaker 2: and so that's four days off for him right now
- 24:15Speaker 2: since the last time he played. They'll get a sense
- 24:18Speaker 2: for him for Friday in New York. If it's not
- 24:22Speaker 2: going well, they know that they can pull the back
- 24:25Speaker 2: date on the aisle and you know, he'll miss eight games.
- 24:29Speaker 2: So I think that they feel like they're in an
- 24:33Speaker 2: okay spot to handle it. But you know, it didn't
- 24:37Speaker 2: sound like they were ready to even consider that at
- 24:40Speaker 2: all because of the progress he's made. So we will see.
- 24:42Speaker 2: I'm glad we don't have a Daily Dingers to pick
- 24:45Speaker 2: for the Friday game, because I would probably pick Byron
- 24:48Speaker 2: to hit a home run at New York Yankee Stadium.
- 24:50Speaker 2: But it's it sounds like it's progressing well. Enough.
- 24:56Speaker 1: We will take a quick break and be back to
- 24:58Speaker 1: t up that series Yankee Stadium right after this.

- 26:05Speaker 1: The Twins are headed to Yankee Stadium this weekend a
- 26:09Speaker 1: three game set Friday through Sunday. If you haven't heard,
- 26:14Speaker 1: they've struggled against the Yankees in recent years. I hate
- 26:16Speaker 1: to break it to you, but since two thousand and two,
- 26:21Speaker 1: the Yankees are one hundred and eleven and forty four
- 26:25Speaker 1: against the Twins in the regular season, which is just
- 26:28Speaker 1: an astounding statistic. That is, obviously, if you were to
- 26:33Speaker 1: extrapolate that as a team's record over a full season,
- 26:36Speaker 1: historically good for the Yankees, historically bad for the Twins.
- 26:39Speaker 1: In the playoffs, It's sixteen and two the Yankees' record
- 26:44Speaker 1: against the Twins. I was saying before the show. Fun fact, Dan,
- 26:48Speaker 1: I personally attended the first and most recent of those
- 26:51Speaker 1: sixteen playoff losses to the Yankees in that span, two
- 26:54Speaker 1: thousand and three at old Yankee Stadium. So you're saying
- 26:57Speaker 1: it was you, I think I think it's my fault. Yeah,
- 27:00Speaker 1: they are. They are still stuck under my curse, got
- 27:04Speaker 1: my hat stolen in the bleachers. It was a great
- 27:05Speaker 1: day back then, and uh I remember that crazy yeah,
- 27:10Speaker 1: But brad Radkey started that game. Tory Hunter smacked a
- 27:14Speaker 1: homer to center field, to tie it in like the
- 27:16Speaker 1: fifth or sixth, and then the Yankees, as they always do,
- 27:19Speaker 1: did what they do, did what they do. The difference
- 27:24Speaker 1: maybe this time around, is that the Yankees stink hot
- 27:27Speaker 1: garbage right now.
- 27:29Speaker 2: They do.
- 27:30Speaker 1: They're beat up too. They're beat up. They've lost seven
- 27:33Speaker 1: in a row. What could go wrong? Dan, Everything's everything's
- 27:37Speaker 1: looking up.
- 27:38Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly, No, No, that's exactly. Hey, we got them
- 27:41Speaker 2: where we want them, No, Aaron Judge in this series, Hey,
- 27:44Speaker 2: we're the Yankees are struggling right now. Stanton's on the
- 27:48Speaker 2: I L. Grisham's on the I L. Ryan McMahon, I
- 27:52Speaker 2: think is on the I L. Like they are beat up,
- 27:56Speaker 2: So got them right where they want him, prime for
- 27:58Speaker 2: Yankee sweep right now. We know that's just how it like,
- 28:02Speaker 2: Like the Yankees see the Twins come to town, They're
- 28:04Speaker 2: like time to get fat boys. This is it. But
- 28:07Speaker 2: in all reality, like this is a the Twins are
- 28:12Speaker 2: in a good spot to go in here and battle
- 28:14Speaker 2: those demons. And I know that Duff is gonna contribute
- 28:18Speaker 2: a little bit here before the episode on video with
- 28:21Speaker 2: what it's like to go there.
- 28:22Speaker 1: But we are going to have time with Tyler still.
- 28:25Speaker 1: We hope. We haven't haven't gotten the video yet, though
- 28:27Speaker 1: I'm a little worried.
- 28:28Speaker 2: I don't think we have. I don't think we have.
- 28:30Speaker 2: But I've seen some unbelievable crap over the years where
- 28:33Speaker 2: I'm like, how what just happened? I mean, base running, gaffs,
- 28:39Speaker 2: stuff that just doesn't ever happen. And you know, the
- 28:42Speaker 2: Twins seem to hang when the Yankees are in Minnesota.
- 28:46Speaker 2: But it's like when Minnesota goes to this particular stadium.
- 28:49Speaker 2: I mean, it doesn't even feel this way when they're
- 28:51Speaker 2: playing the Mets. You know, it's not a New York thing.
- 28:54Speaker 2: It's a Yankee thing. It is much more a Yankee
- 28:57Speaker 2: thing than anything else, because the Twins will go to
- 28:59Speaker 2: New York and play the Mets. They were down and
- 29:02Speaker 2: remember early on in April that Ryan Jeffers game time
- 29:05Speaker 2: Grand Slam. It was this They were down like seven
- 29:07Speaker 2: to one and they came back and tied. They lost
- 29:10Speaker 2: that game, but they don't have fear on the other
- 29:12Speaker 2: side of the Apple. It just seems to be in
- 29:13Speaker 2: the Bronx. And I don't know if Minnesota and ice
- 29:16Speaker 2: doesn't play well in the Bronx what it is, but
- 29:19Speaker 2: it just historically has been insane, and I remember talking
- 29:23Speaker 2: to Rocco Baldelli about it because i'd seen it in
- 29:25Speaker 2: eighteen when we went in with the Twins. You know,
- 29:30Speaker 2: they'd been coming, they'd just come off that wild card loss,
- 29:33Speaker 2: and I remember you and I had a you. I
- 29:36Speaker 2: had a long story I was set to publish in
- 29:39Speaker 2: eighteen and it was gonna be about how they don't
- 29:42Speaker 2: believe in this curse. But we got hung up, both
- 29:45Speaker 2: of us, and I couldn't get it to you until
- 29:48Speaker 2: just before the first game, and the Twins got their
- 29:51Speaker 2: asses kicked so badly that this was like a thirty
- 29:54Speaker 2: inch story and we just decided not to run it.
- 29:57Speaker 2: And I was like, yeah, let's just chalk that one up.
- 29:59Speaker 2: And they lost three four. If they didn't get swept
- 30:01Speaker 2: in four in that series, it was something like that.
- 30:04Speaker 2: And I just remember Rocco coming in the next year
- 30:07Speaker 2: and thinking this is all bs, and then just seeing
- 30:10Speaker 2: him defeated by the fact that they were just ghosts
- 30:13Speaker 2: for the Twins at Yankee Stadium over the years, that
- 30:16Speaker 2: they always exist no matter how good the team is
- 30:19Speaker 2: coming in. You know, they did win a series a
- 30:21Speaker 2: couple of years ago. I think it was in twenty
- 30:23Speaker 2: twenty three, and it was like, oh, this, that's why
- 30:25Speaker 2: this team is real.
- 30:26Speaker 1: That's the one year since two thousand and one that
- 30:29Speaker 1: they have won the season series against the Yankees. It
- 30:32Speaker 1: was twenty twenty three.
- 30:33Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, and they got him early in Yankee Stadium.
- 30:37Speaker 2: I think it was April before before I don't know,
- 30:40Speaker 2: before things could get going into the season. And it
- 30:42Speaker 2: was so stunning that they won that series.
- 30:44Speaker 1: But yeah, three out of four Yankee Stadium that year. Wait, yeah, no,
- 30:48Speaker 1: I'm sorry. Yeah, and it was they split at Yankee
- 30:52Speaker 1: Stadium and then won two out of okay, target Field.
- 30:55Speaker 2: Okay, well, hey, a split a splittory is like, that's
- 30:58Speaker 2: like winning the world for the Twins. Seriously, that's that's
- 31:03Speaker 2: just how I don't believe in this crap, right, And
- 31:06Speaker 2: you know, I loved the story of the Red Sox
- 31:08Speaker 2: curse and the Cubs curse and you and I'm like,
- 31:12Speaker 2: none of this is real. These curses aren't jinxes, no
- 31:15Speaker 2: hit or jinxes aren't real. And yet I kind of
- 31:19Speaker 2: believe that the Twins are cursed at Yankee Stadium.
- 31:22Speaker 1: I would love to ask Tyler about this, and we
- 31:24Speaker 1: will on Monday if we remember, but having been to
- 31:30Speaker 1: Yankee Stadium, not just for that game, but for others,
- 31:33Speaker 1: it it's a different place. Like the There's something about
- 31:37Speaker 1: the energy and the crowd that just feels maybe because
- 31:40Speaker 1: you've seen it on TV a million times in big games.
- 31:43Speaker 1: Maybe it's the lighting. Maybe it's that old dude who
- 31:46Speaker 1: used to do the PA who was so great. What
- 31:47Speaker 1: was his name, Bob Shepard, Bob Shepherd rip, I believe
- 31:52Speaker 1: at this point, sorry, but fantastic PA guy. There was
- 31:57Speaker 1: just the aura of that place. I really do think
- 31:59Speaker 1: it like it's tough to play there in a way
- 32:02Speaker 1: that it isn't in apologies to Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Minnesota, Like
- 32:06Speaker 1: it just isn't the same revironment. And I think I
- 32:10Speaker 1: think some players would agree with that. Maybe I'm crazy,
- 32:12Speaker 1: but no, Okay, look, I very much think there are
- 32:17Speaker 1: three places that are exceptionally hard to play for the aura.
- 32:21Speaker 2: And at any time, at any time, not just when
- 32:25Speaker 2: the team is going like well, Yankee Stadium, Fenway Park,
- 32:30Speaker 2: and Dodger Stadium. Dodger Stadium, you've been there, you know
- 32:34Speaker 2: they have those big ass speakers in center field and
- 32:37Speaker 2: it's just like a rock concert at all times. The
- 32:41Speaker 2: Dodgers have made it much harder to do this now
- 32:43Speaker 2: because they're so good with all their stars. But they
- 32:47Speaker 2: used to bring the stars out on the field and
- 32:49Speaker 2: you'd see Mary Hart and you'd see I'm not even
- 32:53Speaker 2: gonna go over the amount of people I've seen, but
- 32:56Speaker 2: I saw Danny Trejo a couple of years ago. He
- 32:58Speaker 2: was out there selling tequila and I'm like, oh my god,
- 33:01Speaker 2: that's Danny trayho And you go with very hard all right, Well,
- 33:07Speaker 2: Danny tray Hoo is like one of those guys. You
- 33:09Speaker 2: see him, you know exactly who it is, you know
- 33:10Speaker 2: what I mean, Like it's Jane Seymour has been there,
- 33:14Speaker 2: it's Larry Davids, like everybody's there, right, and and anytime
- 33:19Speaker 2: those people are there, everybody around is like, yeah, it's
- 33:23Speaker 2: like any other day that ends in a wy at
- 33:25Speaker 2: Dodger Stadium. There's like this weird just star quality and
- 33:29Speaker 2: you get caught up in it and it's so different.
- 33:32Speaker 1: It's a different, but it still exists. Yeah.
- 33:37Speaker 2: Right, It's like seeing the Lakers and looking over at
- 33:41Speaker 2: the court side and there's Jack you know. It's like
- 33:44Speaker 2: like that you're under the eyes of the world when
- 33:47Speaker 2: all those stars are out and Yankee Stadium in a
- 33:49Speaker 2: baseball way, and that stupid noise they play every time
- 33:54Speaker 2: they strike out a batter. It's a local electronics commercial.
- 33:57Speaker 2: It's like this annoying whistle. Got it. Hate that thing.
- 34:01Speaker 2: Fenway Park is the same way. Fenway Park is so
- 34:04Speaker 2: games switched so quick there because the Monster and the
- 34:08Speaker 2: Red Sox knowing how to use it that it can
- 34:11Speaker 2: be the same thing. And just the energy of the fans.
- 34:13Speaker 2: They know how to turn it on at the right
- 34:14Speaker 2: point because it's instilled in them. It's part of baseball tradition.
- 34:18Speaker 2: You see it other places when they're going good. Wrigley
- 34:22Speaker 2: Field can be that way. At and T Park in
- 34:25Speaker 2: San Francisco can be that way. When teams are playing great,
- 34:29Speaker 2: their home field can be an advantaged so Twins have
- 34:31Speaker 2: had it. Target Field. Target Field can be an intimidating,
- 34:34Speaker 2: loud place, even with twenty thousand people at times like
- 34:38Speaker 2: they can pump it up. I'm not saying when it's
- 34:42Speaker 2: thirty nine, it's real like the playoffs in twenty three,
- 34:45Speaker 2: that was a real home field advantage for the Twins.
- 34:47Speaker 2: That place can be deafening, but there's but they just
- 34:51Speaker 2: don't compare, because like Yankee Stadium, it's like.
- 34:54Speaker 7: That eighty one of eighty one, you know, and you
- 34:58Speaker 7: see guys expecting it and knowing it's there. So I think,
- 35:02Speaker 7: and I think Duff is going to chime in here
- 35:04Speaker 7: on video and tell us because in twenty nineteen, in
- 35:08Speaker 7: that place, that postseason, the Twins went in and you know,
- 35:13Speaker 7: they had tied the Bombas squad had tied the Yankees
- 35:16Speaker 7: for the all time home run record that season, both
- 35:19Speaker 7: teams hit three hundred and seven home runs.
- 35:21Speaker 2: The Twins went in very confident and like, hey, the
- 35:25Speaker 2: past is the past. We're not that team. And man,
- 35:28Speaker 2: they got their asses kicked in the two games of
- 35:31Speaker 2: the Yankee Stadium, and weird stuff happened. Louis a Rise
- 35:34Speaker 2: dropped that pop up or maybe it was a maybe
- 35:37Speaker 2: it was a yeah, he dropped the pop up, and
- 35:39Speaker 2: then his relay on a double play ball skipped past
- 35:43Speaker 2: c J Cron. Jose Burrios pitched way better than his
- 35:48Speaker 2: line indicated and left losing and like, you know, should
- 35:51Speaker 2: have been winning, and the defense failed him. And then
- 35:54Speaker 2: the Yankees blew out the bullpen and won like twelve
- 35:57Speaker 2: to four, and then Game two is Randy Dobnack and
- 36:00Speaker 2: that's all she wrote, folks, Because no way the Twins
- 36:02Speaker 2: are coming back and winning three four at home and
- 36:05Speaker 2: then winning five in Yankee Stadium like it was over. Yeah,
- 36:09Speaker 2: and everybody was just stunt because that was one of
- 36:11Speaker 2: the best offenses and they couldn't do anything in that postseason.
- 36:14Speaker 1: Yeah. Remember, Tyler made the point that this team doesn't
- 36:21Speaker 1: really have any connection to the twenty four years of failure.
- 36:27Speaker 1: But I feel like we've had that turnover a few
- 36:29Speaker 1: times over in the last twenty four years where it's
- 36:31Speaker 1: like this core, most of them should have no recollection
- 36:35Speaker 1: of these past failures and some shit, it keeps it
- 36:37Speaker 1: keeps happening. If we get that video.
- 36:39Speaker 2: From Tyler, issue there, Yeah, connective tissue or connective fiber
- 36:43Speaker 2: in there somewhere.
- 36:46Speaker 1: If we get that video from Tyler, we will insert
- 36:48Speaker 1: it here.
- 36:49Speaker 8: Playing in Yankee Stadium is always an exciting, you know experience.
- 36:55Speaker 8: It's one that's not always great. Sometimes it's a blast,
- 36:59Speaker 8: but either way, it's you know, a lot of these
- 37:01Speaker 8: guys is going to be their first time and it's
- 37:02Speaker 8: somewhere that is it's a historic place. Granted it's a
- 37:06Speaker 8: new building, but it's still the same Yankees uniforms, the
- 37:10Speaker 8: same ghosts are still in the stadium, you know, monument
- 37:13Speaker 8: parks out there, all the incredible features that they have,
- 37:17Speaker 8: and then not to mention the spread inside.
- 37:19Speaker 3: You know, it's just a it's a one of one
- 37:21Speaker 3: experience as a fan, as a player.
- 37:24Speaker 8: You know, it's a place that can get loud and
- 37:26Speaker 8: get crazy quickly, especially on a big weekend like this,
- 37:30Speaker 8: Holidays are coming. You know they're going to have somebody cool,
- 37:32Speaker 8: probably doing the anthem and things like that.
- 37:34Speaker 3: Like it's a it's a unique place.
- 37:37Speaker 8: It's you know, Finnways up there for me, but as
- 37:39Speaker 8: far as baseball places where you know, destinations, it's probably
- 37:43Speaker 8: up there for everybody as one of one and it's
- 37:46Speaker 8: just a special.
- 37:47Speaker 3: Energy they have. It's an incredible environment.
- 37:50Speaker 8: You know the names that are in those lineups, you
- 37:53Speaker 8: know they're missing some unfortunately for us, but it's still
- 37:56Speaker 8: the Yankees and and games can get out of hand
- 37:58Speaker 8: quick there.
- 37:59Speaker 3: You know, it's it's just special place to play a game.
- 38:01Speaker 8: Can't say that enough, but you know it's one a
- 38:04Speaker 8: lot of guys will be their first time on that field,
- 38:07Speaker 8: first time on that immaculate mound, they have.
- 38:09Speaker 3: They've used some different dirt.
- 38:11Speaker 8: I don't know what it is, but it's even just
- 38:14Speaker 8: warming up for that game, you feel special. It's really
- 38:18Speaker 8: is that. Like I'm in the big leagues. You know,
- 38:20Speaker 8: you get it a few times, face people things like that,
- 38:22Speaker 8: but once you get on that mound in that stadium
- 38:24Speaker 8: and see those people all up on top of you, it's.
- 38:27Speaker 3: It's such a special experience.
- 38:29Speaker 8: And it's one that guys will you know, you'll remember
- 38:32Speaker 8: you do something special there or have a rough one
- 38:34Speaker 8: there like I have.
- 38:35Speaker 3: You remember it for a long time, and you know,
- 38:38Speaker 3: at the end of the day, it's baseball.
- 38:39Speaker 8: It's ninety feet and it's sixty feet six inches. And
- 38:42Speaker 8: I think as long as those guys can remember to
- 38:44Speaker 8: do that and don't make it more than it is,
- 38:46Speaker 8: you know, get out tonight and try to take Game
- 38:49Speaker 8: one and get some momentum going. You know, the Yankees
- 38:51Speaker 8: been struggling a little bit, trying and keep a roll
- 38:54Speaker 8: going for the Twins and get those boys hot, you know,
- 38:56Speaker 8: and got some good guys in that lineup short porches
- 38:59Speaker 8: to both sides, so you know, the Twins have been
- 39:01Speaker 8: hot hitting Homer, so might as well keep that going.
- 39:08Speaker 1: We'll move on to more practical matters with this series.
- 39:11Speaker 1: Three games sets starting Friday night, six ozho five start
- 39:14Speaker 1: Mike Parides against Garrett Cole. On Saturday twelve thirty five start,
- 39:19Speaker 1: Twins are actually moving up Zebbie Matthews. That should have
- 39:22Speaker 1: been Connor Prelip spot, but it'll be Zebie Matthews against
- 39:24Speaker 1: Carlos Rodon. And then on Sunday twelve thirty five start
- 39:27Speaker 1: on Peacock and that'll be Joe Ryan against Ryan Weather's
- 39:30Speaker 1: a battle of Ryan's. So Dan. A couple of things
- 39:33Speaker 1: of note, Connor Prelip getting held off of a Yankee
- 39:37Speaker 1: Stadium start, and also the Twins are going to miss
- 39:39Speaker 1: Cam Schlittler. I have to be very careful how I
- 39:42Speaker 1: say that name well good and who is obviously a
- 39:46Speaker 1: cy young candidate. So another starting pitching break for the Twins.
- 39:50Speaker 1: But the Twins felt the best not to put Prelip
- 39:53Speaker 1: out there given his Tommy John sergeries. Why don't you
- 39:57Speaker 1: explain danil'll do a better job than I.
- 39:59Speaker 2: Yeah, he's already coming up. I bet they have ear
- 40:02Speaker 2: marks like one hundred and twenty innings for Connor Prelip
- 40:05Speaker 2: because he threw eighty two last year, maybe maybe one
- 40:08Speaker 2: twenty five, somewhere in that range, maybe one thirty, who knows.
- 40:11Speaker 2: It's fluid. It's gonna be dependent on how Connor Prelip
- 40:14Speaker 2: is feeling, because they don't want to blow him out.
- 40:17Speaker 2: We talked about this before that they need his talent
- 40:20Speaker 2: around for years, and you saw it on Sunday how
- 40:23Speaker 2: good he could be. So they're going to give him
- 40:24Speaker 2: days when they can. And with these two days off today,
- 40:27Speaker 2: Thursday and then Monday, it's a chance to push him
- 40:30Speaker 2: back to either Tuesday or Wednesday of that next series
- 40:33Speaker 2: and maybe you know if it's if it's if they
- 40:36Speaker 2: did Thursday, if they because they can wiggle room it
- 40:40Speaker 2: to that point, If they put him on Thursday to
- 40:43Speaker 2: end that in the Guardian series, then he goes into
- 40:48Speaker 2: the All Star Break and that's his last start. He
- 40:50Speaker 2: doesn't pitch again. Even actually Wednesday would be the case.
- 40:54Speaker 2: So yeah, sorry doing the math here as on three
- 40:58Speaker 2: hours sleep. And look, they're going to get one more
- 41:01Speaker 2: start from Connor Prilip before the All Star Break most likely,
- 41:04Speaker 2: unless they pitch him Tuesday, I doubt they will. I
- 41:06Speaker 2: just think Bailey Over is gonna come back in there
- 41:09Speaker 2: and they can fit him in on that final weekend
- 41:12Speaker 2: against the Angels, and then you've managed Connor prelip at
- 41:16Speaker 2: a time where you want to manage him and give
- 41:18Speaker 2: him extra days. And I asked him about it before
- 41:21Speaker 2: Wednesday's game. He said, and he's just throwing extra bullpens
- 41:24Speaker 2: and he's working in it, and he was really pleased
- 41:27Speaker 2: with how he felt. I think it was nine days
- 41:28Speaker 2: rest the last time he pitched on Sunday or it
- 41:30Speaker 2: was either eight or nine days rest. He looked outstanding,
- 41:33Speaker 2: and he'll get to do this again. I don't think
- 41:36Speaker 2: he's at all phased by the extra days. I know
- 41:39Speaker 2: he knows they're taking care of him. It's working out
- 41:43Speaker 2: well with the schedule, and you can get him two
- 41:46Speaker 2: starts at the end of the first half, which has
- 41:48Speaker 2: been a physically taxing first half for him, but it's
- 41:51Speaker 2: been a very good one and it's a way to
- 41:53Speaker 2: try and manage him to keep him giving you innings
- 41:57Speaker 2: in that second half too.
- 41:58Speaker 1: Yeah, well, we'll see what happens. The Twins off today Thursday,
- 42:03Speaker 1: and we're coming to you on Thursday instead of Friday
- 42:05Speaker 1: this week because there is no game tonight. And we
- 42:09Speaker 1: started taping and thought, why not just publish the show
- 42:12Speaker 1: after we're done rather than saving it for Friday. Give
- 42:14Speaker 1: you a little more time to tee up for the Yankee,
- 42:17Speaker 1: especially if you're headed out July fourth weekend. Maybe you're
- 42:19Speaker 1: already in your car and your way to your cabin.
- 42:21Speaker 1: Give you something to listen to. I'm sure your kids
- 42:23Speaker 1: will love it. It's a great show for kids. Right
- 42:26Speaker 1: you haven't you haven't? Yeah, you haven't cussed in like weeks, Dan,
- 42:29Speaker 1: I'm surprised.
- 42:30Speaker 2: I think I have one swear this season, maybe too,
- 42:33Speaker 2: at least maybe.
- 42:34Speaker 1: A two in one show. But that's neither here nor there.
- 42:37Speaker 1: We'll see what what happens this weekend. The Twins are
- 42:40Speaker 1: off Monday, and then get ready for an even bigger
- 42:43Speaker 1: series at home against Cleveland, who they're chasing in the
- 42:46Speaker 1: al Central, and then after that three with the Angels.
- 42:50Speaker 1: That's it before the All Star break. But we'll see
- 42:53Speaker 1: you on Monday. Thanks everybody for listening. If you like
- 42:55Speaker 1: what you hear, please toss us a comment, like a subscribe.
- 42:58Speaker 1: We are trying to get up to five hundred subscribers
- 43:02Speaker 1: on the show. We're on our way. There's a QR
- 43:04Speaker 1: code on the screen right there. If you're watching on
- 43:07Speaker 1: YouTube to make it super easy, Appreciate you and we'll
