- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome back to ACC Football Addiction. This is presented by PrizePix.
- 0:05Speaker 1: We're all new users who play a $ 5 lineup and win,
- 0:08Speaker 1: get 115 lineups instantly if they use code HMA. Brian
- 0:12Speaker 1: from Clemson Football Live on with us for a few
- 0:14Speaker 1: minutes today. And we haven't talked. We went through a
- 0:17Speaker 1: bye week. I let you recover a little after that
- 0:20Speaker 1: Miami game. So I don't want to go too far
- 0:22Speaker 1: back and relitigate that game. But I do want to
- 0:26Speaker 1: just ask about the mood coming out of that game
- 0:30Speaker 1: and then going into the bi-week now coming out of
- 0:32Speaker 1: the bi-week, you obviously have an opponent that you should
- 0:35Speaker 1: very easily win against. And then it's that stretch run
- 0:38Speaker 1: of the ACC to maybe get back to Charlotte. We'll
- 0:41Speaker 1: see how they can play down the stretch and, and
- 0:43Speaker 1: maybe force a rematch. But, um, Coming out of that
- 0:46Speaker 1: Miami game, I'll give you my take, and then I
- 0:48Speaker 1: want to kind of get your thoughts and then the
- 0:50Speaker 1: bye week thoughts and maybe any news that's come out
- 0:53Speaker 1: of that. I didn't think Clemson played terribly. I thought
- 0:57Speaker 1: the margins were there. If they maybe hit Mintz's arm
- 1:00Speaker 1: a half a second earlier, they're taking a touchdown back.
- 1:04Speaker 1: break goes Miami's way. Mensa fumbles the ball. If that
- 1:06Speaker 1: goes out of the back of the end zone, maybe
- 1:09Speaker 1: things are a little bit different. Now there was a
- 1:10Speaker 1: penalty on that play. So, you know, not a perfect,
- 1:12Speaker 1: but I thought they were there. I thought they competed well.
- 1:15Speaker 1: I thought they played hard. I thought the effort was good.
- 1:17Speaker 1: I just think Miami's a whole lot better than them
- 1:19Speaker 1: right now. And you have to kind of tip your cap.
- 1:22Speaker 1: It's probably a lot of what I expect on Saturday
- 1:25Speaker 1: when we play them in Coral Gables, I think we'll
- 1:27Speaker 1: fight hard. I think we'll play hard. The, the game
- 1:31Speaker 1: was one by Miami in South Carolina and then in
- 1:35Speaker 1: Coral Gables. That game was won far before kickoff and
- 1:40Speaker 1: was really kind of decided based on the rosters many
- 1:44Speaker 1: years before. So just thoughts coming out of that game,
- 1:47Speaker 1: thoughts on the bye week, and then we'll move on
- 1:49Speaker 1: from that.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a really good point that you make, that
- 1:52Speaker 2: there were good things that happened, good things that Clemson
- 1:56Speaker 2: did here and there, and that's where the fan base
- 1:59Speaker 2: is actually kind of split right now. We saw Clemson fight.
- 2:04Speaker 2: We saw Ashton Hampton really do very well against Malakai Taney.
- 2:08Speaker 2: That's one of the top stories coming out of the game.
- 2:11Speaker 2: Bryant Wesko is as advertised, played very well. Tyler Brown
- 2:15Speaker 2: did have a drop on what I believe would have
- 2:17Speaker 2: been a touchdown, but overall he made a really good
- 2:20Speaker 2: reception throughout the game, and we saw some good things
- 2:25Speaker 2: here and there.
- 2:26Speaker 3: Overall, Miami still wins by four touchdowns.
- 2:29Speaker 2: And so where I'm at with the program on the
- 2:32Speaker 2: more realistic side of things, still scratching my head and
- 2:37Speaker 2: really angry that the program has fell off this far
- 2:40Speaker 2: that we're having to look for moral victories in, oh,
- 2:45Speaker 2: this guy played well and this guy played well, so on.
- 2:48Speaker 4: And so on.
- 2:49Speaker 2: And you still walk out of your own house, a
- 2:53Speaker 2: not game, which we used to never lose, with Herbstreet
- 2:58Speaker 2: and Fowler are up in the booth and you lose
- 3:00Speaker 2: by four touchdowns. I'm still struggling with that after watching
- 3:05Speaker 2: some of those legitimately good things that certain players did
- 3:10Speaker 2: here and there. Tate Reynolds, here's my thoughts on that guy.
- 3:15Speaker 3: He's a freshman.
- 3:16Speaker 2: He threw the ball over 40 times. We put a
- 3:19Speaker 2: lot of pressure on him. He's ran the ball a lot.
- 3:22Speaker 2: And what it really comes down to is the offensive line.
- 3:24Speaker 2: The offensive line, it's kind of, leaked out throughout the
- 3:28Speaker 2: Clemson community over the past few weeks, especially since the
- 3:30Speaker 2: LSU game, is that we were trying to attain three
- 3:36Speaker 2: offensive linemen out of the transfer portal, and we did
- 3:39Speaker 2: not meet their demands, whatever their demands were. And it
- 3:45Speaker 2: just seems like that's ended up being an extremely costly
- 3:49Speaker 2: mistake on our part because this guy is running for
- 3:53Speaker 2: his life, and though he's a big, strong physical back,
- 3:56Speaker 2: he's still a freshman. And the question is, and he's quarterback,
- 4:01Speaker 2: the question is, when will he get hurt? Because if
- 4:04Speaker 2: you run him so many times, he's taking hits, logic
- 4:07Speaker 2: says he's going to get hurt. And I don't want
- 4:09Speaker 2: that for him, especially after he sat out his entire
- 4:12Speaker 2: senior season in high school because of an injury. So
- 4:17Speaker 2: there were some good things here and there, but Clemson
- 4:19Speaker 2: still loses by four touchdowns. The program should have never
- 4:23Speaker 2: got to that place. Moving forward, We will see how
- 4:26Speaker 2: that impacts the season, definitely.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Hey, just before we go on, I want to give
- 4:31Speaker 1: some love to Alumni Hall. I have chatted with Alumni Hall,
- 4:33Speaker 1: and you guys are using this code and using it
- 4:35Speaker 1: a ton. Keep on doing it. If you're buying Tiger's gear,
- 4:38Speaker 1: if you're buying gear for anybody that Alumni Hall has
- 4:41Speaker 1: merch for, make sure you're using the code CFA15.
- 4:45Speaker 4: Doesn't sign you up for anything. Not a subscription, not
- 4:48Speaker 4: a monthly fee.
- 4:49Speaker 1: Just save 15% on your order at alumnihall.com or in person.
- 4:54Speaker 1: We appreciate alumni hall for their support. Go check them out.
- 4:57Speaker 1: Coming out of the bi-week. Are they, do you, I
- 5:01Speaker 1: think the bi-week came at a good time. I think
- 5:03Speaker 1: you could glass half full that you could glass half
- 5:06Speaker 1: empty it for sure. But I do think coming out
- 5:10Speaker 1: of that bi-week and it sucks to have to sit
- 5:12Speaker 1: with that for two weeks, but from a physicality standpoint,
- 5:15Speaker 1: from a health standpoint, kind of getting Tate who I thought,
- 5:19Speaker 1: you know, he is a warrior. I didn't think he
- 5:21Speaker 1: played incredibly poorly in that game. You give him two
- 5:24Speaker 1: weeks now to run kind of with the ones. You
- 5:26Speaker 1: kind of even have an extra week, considering the opponent
- 5:30Speaker 1: this week, to make that stretch run in the ACC. Look,
- 5:33Speaker 1: this is not a great Clemson team by any means,
- 5:35Speaker 1: but if they could compete and get to Charlotte, hope
- 5:39Speaker 1: for a miracle probably there against Miami in a rematch,
- 5:42Speaker 1: but if they could get to Charlotte and... and salvage
- 5:45Speaker 1: this season, beat a couple of rivals in Doak, and
- 5:48Speaker 1: then at the end of the year against SC. I
- 5:51Speaker 1: think you would probably look at this and say, hey,
- 5:53Speaker 1: it's still not up to the standard, but we did
- 5:55Speaker 1: a lot of good things this year in rebounding after
- 5:58Speaker 1: losing to the biggest two teams we played, the best
- 6:01Speaker 1: two teams, and you've got a long way to go
- 6:03Speaker 1: to get back to that level. But coming out of
- 6:06Speaker 1: the bye week, where do you feel like they're at
- 6:08Speaker 1: right now, big picture?
- 6:11Speaker 4: Honestly, I don't know.
- 6:13Speaker 2: I think that one of the biggest problems we've seen
- 6:15Speaker 2: in Clemson over the past few years, I say past
- 6:18Speaker 2: few years, probably about the past four years.
- 6:22Speaker 3: Is inconsistency, right?
- 6:25Speaker 2: So one of the marks of a really good football
- 6:27Speaker 2: team is that they're consistent. Sure, there'll be an upset
- 6:30Speaker 2: from time to time.
- 6:32Speaker 4: That happens.
- 6:33Speaker 3: I mean, that's just the nature of the game.
- 6:35Speaker 2: But overall, a team who is really good, they're consistent.
- 6:39Speaker 2: They're consistently winning the games they're supposed to to win,
- 6:43Speaker 2: they are winning games that's kind of a toss-up, and
- 6:46Speaker 2: then when they're playing the big teams, they're not losing
- 6:48Speaker 2: by 41 points and 28 points. With Clemson, the question is,
- 6:54Speaker 2: how can they refocus themselves coming out of a four-touchdown
- 6:59Speaker 2: loss to Miami at night, at home, where they never
- 7:03Speaker 2: used to lose?
- 7:04Speaker 3: I mean, that's just it.
- 7:06Speaker 2: Going into this Charleston Southern game, this is a really
- 7:09Speaker 2: good mid-season, pre-season type game. I think they need to
- 7:14Speaker 2: spot the football, work on the basics. This offensive line,
- 7:18Speaker 2: this is a really good pre-season practice before they go
- 7:21Speaker 2: on to play. A Virginia Tech team who was looking good,
- 7:24Speaker 2: but over the past few weeks, they've started to fall apart.
- 7:26Speaker 2: But that's still a big game for us. After that,
- 7:30Speaker 2: we see a schedule that is quite winnable for Clemson.
- 7:34Speaker 2: And it's not because Clemson would have to be that good.
- 7:38Speaker 2: It's because the teams are so inconsistent. So if Clemson
- 7:42Speaker 2: could just refocus, keep the turnover ratio low, keep the
- 7:48Speaker 2: penalties low, and just play good, solid football, there is
- 7:51Speaker 2: a legitimate chance that Clemson could meet Miami in Charlotte.
- 7:55Speaker 2: I mean, there's legitimately a really good chance that they
- 7:59Speaker 2: could do that. Now, am I predicting that? No.
- 8:02Speaker 3: No.
- 8:02Speaker 2: Am I even hoping it for the long-term success and
- 8:05Speaker 2: the things I believe needs to be corrected for the program?
- 8:09Speaker 1: No.
- 8:10Speaker 2: But Clemson, I think if they can just chill out,
- 8:15Speaker 2: do the right things, follow their assignments, keep the offensive
- 8:20Speaker 2: playbook open, Clemson could make a run to Charlotte.
- 8:23Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I think it almost is like this idea of,
- 8:29Speaker 1: you know, if you have just an awful season, it
- 8:32Speaker 1: forces a ton of change, right? When Florida state went
- 8:34Speaker 1: two and 10, it forced new coordinators. It forced a
- 8:38Speaker 1: restructuring of the way that they approach football. And I
- 8:41Speaker 1: still think the leadership there is wrong. And so that's
- 8:45Speaker 1: why you haven't seen this climb back to the top
- 8:47Speaker 1: of the mountain or even close to halfway up the mountain. But, um,
- 8:51Speaker 1: it's almost like this purgatory of If they– they're going
- 8:54Speaker 1: to beat Charleston Southern. I think they're going to beat Syracuse.
- 8:57Speaker 1: I think they're going to beat Georgia Tech. I think
- 8:58Speaker 1: they've got a really good chance to beat Florida State,
- 9:00Speaker 1: Virginia Tech, and Duke. Talent and some things going right
- 9:05Speaker 1: for some of those programs, some things going wrong for
- 9:08Speaker 1: each of them as well.
- 9:09Speaker 4: And then the rivalry game at the end of the.
- 9:10Speaker 1: Year could go either way, kind of what has happened
- 9:13Speaker 1: with South Carolina by the time you get to it.
- 9:16Speaker 1: The problem becomes if you go 10-2– And you got dominated. Does,
- 9:20Speaker 1: is that bad enough to force a lot of change
- 9:22Speaker 1: or if it's, or is it like, Hey man, we
- 9:24Speaker 1: went 10 and two, we, we did get blown out
- 9:26Speaker 1: in those two games for sure.
- 9:28Speaker 4: We were not close, but man, we beat everybody else.
- 9:31Speaker 1: And so it's almost like, you know, I don't think
- 9:33Speaker 1: Clemson fans are, you know, by and large in a
- 9:36Speaker 1: spot where they are cheering against their team. Like I
- 9:38Speaker 1: know Florida state fans are right now, but it's almost like,
- 9:41Speaker 1: you know, darned if you do darned, if you don't,
- 9:43Speaker 1: you know, you, you, if you lose a bunch of
- 9:45Speaker 1: these games down the stretch to teams that aren't very good, Yeah,
- 9:47Speaker 1: that hurts in the moment, but maybe that's better for
- 9:49Speaker 1: what's long-term.
- 9:50Speaker 4: At the same time, you want to win a lot
- 9:52Speaker 4: of these games. You want to see this team grow.
- 9:53Speaker 1: You want to see maybe what Tate looks like next
- 9:55Speaker 1: year you know, and, and, and his development not be stunted.
- 9:57Speaker 4: So it's almost like this.
- 10:00Speaker 1: I don't know if purgatory is the right word or,
- 10:02Speaker 1: or what, but it's almost like this, like darned if
- 10:04Speaker 1: you do darned, if you don't kind of mindset. Now
- 10:07Speaker 1: at the end of the day, I, you know, I
- 10:08Speaker 1: think most fans want to win games, you know? And
- 10:10Speaker 1: so I'm certainly not implying that people should be cheering. Oh, you,
- 10:12Speaker 1: if you lose a couple of bad teams, it might
- 10:14Speaker 1: bring around more change. You kind of hope that the
- 10:16Speaker 1: wake up call of a 28 point loss against Miami
- 10:19Speaker 1: is and an absolute dominating blowout loss by 41 against
- 10:24Speaker 1: LSU would be enough of a wake-up call to say, like, hey,
- 10:26Speaker 1: we do need to have change, even if we beat
- 10:28Speaker 1: some of these bad teams on the back half of
- 10:29Speaker 1: the schedule.
- 10:30Speaker 4: But I don't know that there's anything that says that
- 10:32Speaker 4: that's absolutely going to.
- 10:33Speaker 1: Be the case in a wake-up call and kind of
- 10:36Speaker 1: a revitalization.
- 10:37Speaker 4: So, yeah, it's a weird spot for Clemson right now,
- 10:41Speaker 4: for sure.
- 10:42Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean.
- 10:44Speaker 2: I don't know if purgatory, I think that would definitely
- 10:48Speaker 2: be a hotter side of purgatory, I guess you would say.
- 10:52Speaker 2: Right now, Clemson, we've seen this over the past few years,
- 10:55Speaker 2: and I've witnessed it. It's not all Clemson fans, by
- 10:57Speaker 2: the way, right? I have friends who disagree with me
- 11:01Speaker 2: totally on the way that I approach Clemson football right now,
- 11:03Speaker 2: but Clemson still has a lot of fans, and it
- 11:09Speaker 2: seems to be the mindset of our coaching staff and
- 11:11Speaker 2: leadership is that They really don't care about– they do,
- 11:15Speaker 2: but they don't care about the 41 and 28-point loss.
- 11:18Speaker 3: We're playing moral victories.
- 11:20Speaker 2: So if Clemson, you know, moved to the Sun Belt
- 11:24Speaker 2: Conference and they beat every team and then they lost
- 11:28Speaker 2: to LSU and Miami, they would still be talking about
- 11:30Speaker 2: how we won the Sun Belt. There would be no change.
- 11:34Speaker 2: There would be no pointing back to, well, you know,
- 11:36Speaker 2: we used to beat Oklahoma, Ohio State, Notre Dame, and
- 11:39Speaker 2: all those guys, Alabama when Alabama was really good. um
- 11:44Speaker 2: you know so so it you would be shamed for
- 11:46Speaker 2: even have the having the audacity to bring that up
- 11:49Speaker 2: so you know i think that if clemson wins out
- 11:53Speaker 2: i think it's going to be bad for the program
- 11:55Speaker 2: in the long run but like you said there's just
- 11:57Speaker 2: so many people who's living in the here and now
- 11:59Speaker 2: they really don't care about what's going to happen next
- 12:01Speaker 2: year when you go and play another good football team
- 12:04Speaker 2: you get blown out and instead of you know looking
- 12:08Speaker 2: at recent history and saying, hey, I notice a trend. No,
- 12:13Speaker 2: they'll just look for that next.
- 12:15Speaker 3: Thing that makes them happy. Oh, we beat Duke. Really?
- 12:19Speaker 3: We beat Duke?
- 12:21Speaker 2: You're going to take beating a Georgia Tech team that's
- 12:24Speaker 2: rebuilding or a Florida State team who was historically bad?
- 12:28Speaker 3: No offense, Seminoles.
- 12:30Speaker 2: In fact, we should look at Florida State and go,
- 12:32Speaker 2: we better get our act together or else. So, I mean,
- 12:36Speaker 2: it's just a really awkward place to be in, like
- 12:39Speaker 2: you said. But we'll definitely see if Clemson just, if
- 12:42Speaker 2: they'll refocus, plays good, solid football, we'll see what happens
- 12:46Speaker 2: moving forward.
- 12:48Speaker 1: Looking at the back half of the schedule, do you
- 12:52Speaker 1: have like a prediction for how they do? Like, do
- 12:55Speaker 1: you kind of look at it and say, man, each
- 12:58Speaker 1: game individually, I think they actually win it? Or what
- 13:01Speaker 1: are the big traps if we are talking football only,
- 13:04Speaker 1: not big picture?
- 13:05Speaker 3: Yeah, absolutely.
- 13:06Speaker 2: Virginia Tech, definitely. I think that James Franklin is going
- 13:10Speaker 2: to coach up for this game. I think that Clemson
- 13:13Speaker 2: can win that game, definitely. I don't think that it's
- 13:16Speaker 2: like a Miami or LSU game where I'm like, yeah,
- 13:19Speaker 2: we're losing.
- 13:20Speaker 4: We're losing.
- 13:20Speaker 2: I mean, before the LSU game, I said, we're losing
- 13:22Speaker 2: by 21 points or more. And I was told by everyone,
- 13:27Speaker 2: including people popping up out of the grave when I
- 13:30Speaker 2: passed by a cemetery going, you're wrong, buddy.
- 13:33Speaker 3: Well, 41 points later, there we are. Miami.
- 13:37Speaker 2: Miami hammered us. I mean, I knew that there were
- 13:40Speaker 2: some good moments there. So when I look at the
- 13:42Speaker 2: VT game, I see a game that could go either way.
- 13:45Speaker 2: We get out of that one with a win. I
- 13:47Speaker 2: don't care how we do it. One point, two points,
- 13:49Speaker 2: a touchdown. Going to Florida State definitely could win that one.
- 13:53Speaker 2: I'm getting these games out of order, by the way. Syracuse,
- 13:56Speaker 2: Georgia Tech definitely can win. Duke definitely can win it.
- 13:59Speaker 2: South Carolina is going to be interesting because what we
- 14:02Speaker 2: saw over this weekend, They, the Gamecocks, and I hate
- 14:05Speaker 2: to say this, other than being in the state of
- 14:07Speaker 2: South Carolina, the Gamecocks and Clemson, they have something very
- 14:11Speaker 2: much in common is that here and there, they have
- 14:14Speaker 2: some really good players. They have Sellers, Dylan Stewart, Nick Harbor, us.
- 14:20Speaker 2: We know who we have, Sammy Brown, Wesco, Moore, Hampton,
- 14:24Speaker 2: those types of guys. And then there's a bunch of
- 14:27Speaker 2: inconsistency here. So that's going to be a very, very
- 14:30Speaker 2: good game. Interestingly enough, and I'm not conceding this, I
- 14:32Speaker 2: want to beat the Gamecocks no matter if that's our
- 14:34Speaker 2: only win. We could lose to the Gamecocks, win out
- 14:39Speaker 2: in the ACC, and there's a great chance we end
- 14:42Speaker 2: up in Charlotte, whether that's a good thing for the
- 14:44Speaker 2: long run or not. So those are the two games
- 14:47Speaker 2: that I'm really focusing on, VT and South Carolina. Now,
- 14:53Speaker 2: could some of those other teams sneak up on us
- 14:56Speaker 2: because of our inconsistencies?
- 14:57Speaker 4: Sure could.
- 14:58Speaker 2: But VT and South Carolina are the two games that
- 15:00Speaker 2: it's like, hey, hey, we're going to be a problem.
- 15:04Speaker 1: We we have a bye week coming up here soon
- 15:09Speaker 1: after after Miami absolutely beats our brains and we'll see
- 15:13Speaker 1: who's coaching that game for for Florida State on Halloween.
- 15:17Speaker 1: Probably be played at 8 a.m. on Cartoon Network, considering
- 15:21Speaker 1: how both teams have have looked this year. But we
- 15:24Speaker 1: we will talk to you, I'm sure. before that one happens.
- 15:27Speaker 1: But Brian, what do you got going this week? Where
- 15:29Speaker 1: can people follow you?
- 15:30Speaker 4: All those things.
- 15:31Speaker 3: Yeah, absolutely.
- 15:32Speaker 2: I'm on YouTube, Clemson Football Live. So check me out there.
- 15:35Speaker 2: Drop me a line, subscribe.
- 15:37Speaker 3: Let me know you're.
- 15:39Speaker 2: In the comment section because you saw this video. This week,
- 15:42Speaker 2: we're just diving into what can we learn from the
- 15:46Speaker 2: Charleston Southern game? What can we potentially correct? And I'm
- 15:50Speaker 2: still just slamming. I'm not running away from it.
- 15:54Speaker 3: How did we get here? And we don't need to
- 15:57Speaker 3: let that go.
- 15:57Speaker 2: And also, we really need to focus on the importance
- 16:01Speaker 2: of not only having a good quarterback. Every team in college, football, pro,
- 16:06Speaker 2: all the way down to Pop Warner, you need an
- 16:08Speaker 2: offensive line. And we have to stop running from that.
- 16:11Speaker 2: So that's what I'm talking about. I'm having a good
- 16:13Speaker 2: time over there. Even stirring the pot, I'm having a
- 16:16Speaker 2: good time. So I hope everybody will stop by and
- 16:18Speaker 2: say hello.
