- 0:02Speaker 1: On a Saturday afternoon in October twenty twenty two, officers
- 0:06Speaker 1: from the Santa Fe Police Department found twenty one year
- 0:09Speaker 1: old Grace Jennings stabbed to death by a large sword
- 0:13Speaker 1: in the garage of a house on Jaguar Drive.
- 0:15Speaker 2: It looks clear he is right here by the door.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Grace did not live in the home where she was found.
- 0:22Speaker 1: She had only arrived the night before, offered an ostensibly
- 0:26Speaker 1: safe place to stay the night by someone claiming to
- 0:29Speaker 1: be her friend. Following the horrific discovery, two suspects were
- 0:34Speaker 1: detained and questioned, each offering a different story.
- 0:38Speaker 3: Well, I'm partially hope for her to be done, but
- 0:41Speaker 3: I'm also confused.
- 0:43Speaker 4: I'm scared right now, pretty scared of what just happened.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Eventually, the truth came out, though no one was prepared
- 0:58Speaker 1: for just how strange truth would be.
- 1:06Speaker 3: Hi.
- 1:06Speaker 1: There, I'm Kevin, and welcome to just that lounge. Today's
- 1:10Speaker 1: case is really odd. The investigation unraveled on scene and
- 1:15Speaker 1: through interviews rapidly, despite a collection of confusing and bizarre details.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Was this a murder motivated by a love triangle, anger
- 1:23Speaker 1: over a breakup, outright insanity, or was there something more
- 1:27Speaker 1: intricate and unpredictable at work under the surface. Let's take
- 1:34Speaker 1: a look.
- 1:50Speaker 2: At.
- 1:50Speaker 1: Just before two pm on Saturday, October twenty ninth, twenty
- 1:54Speaker 1: twenty two, officers from the Santa Fe PD were dispatched
- 1:58Speaker 1: to a home on Jaguar Drive. An emergency call had
- 2:01Speaker 1: been placed by a woman who claimed that her son
- 2:04Speaker 1: had just witnessed a murder at the property. Gathering at
- 2:08Speaker 1: the front of the house, they then made their way
- 2:10Speaker 1: along the left side of the house through a wooden gate.
- 2:13Speaker 1: Officer Alvarado approached the backyard first and spotted a young
- 2:17Speaker 1: blonde woman in a black T shirt and pajama bottoms
- 2:20Speaker 1: walked from the detached garage and into the back door
- 2:23Speaker 1: of the mainhouse.
- 2:33Speaker 5: Kick it in.
- 2:35Speaker 1: A red substance appearing to be blood, was visible on
- 2:38Speaker 1: the door handle the door. Alvarado began to kick in
- 2:44Speaker 1: the door backup.
- 2:47Speaker 6: What's going on? Who called?
- 2:52Speaker 2: So?
- 2:53Speaker 5: Someone was?
- 2:58Speaker 2: Where's the garage?
- 3:07Speaker 1: Emerging from the house was the homeowner, Lanny McCully, followed
- 3:10Speaker 1: shortly after by her nineteen year old daughter, Kiara. It
- 3:14Speaker 1: was Kiara who had entered through the back door just
- 3:17Speaker 1: as police arrived.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Someone just called that someone just got step over here,
- 3:22Speaker 2: step over here. Someone just got stabbed inside that garage.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Lanny provided a key to the locked garage. Inside, amongst
- 3:34Speaker 1: a floor covered in trash, officers discovered the lifeless body
- 3:38Speaker 1: of a young woman. A three foot long sword, blood
- 3:43Speaker 1: covering the blade rested just inside the door. Also inside
- 3:48Speaker 1: the garage was a dagger and a butterfly knife. The
- 3:52Speaker 1: officers were unable to gain access to the garage from
- 3:55Speaker 1: the large, apparently broken door on the other side of
- 3:58Speaker 1: the building.
- 4:00Speaker 2: It looks there is right here by the door.
- 4:03Speaker 7: There's way too much trash unless we can open that
- 4:07Speaker 7: back door the garage.
- 4:09Speaker 5: Can you open the garage from that side?
- 4:14Speaker 1: Medics arriving moments later, had to push their way through
- 4:17Speaker 1: the smaller entrance to reach the victim, though she showed
- 4:20Speaker 1: no signs of life.
- 4:23Speaker 6: I have cats, I have to they Unfortunately, this is
- 4:27Speaker 6: an active investigation. Okay, so somehow at this point that's
- 4:33Speaker 6: my house.
- 4:33Speaker 2: Fucking crazy, there's a that's why it's a crime.
- 4:38Speaker 6: The body in stand up for me?
- 4:43Speaker 2: What the fuck didn't come? You wish she is?
- 4:49Speaker 6: I don't know who was in there.
- 4:53Speaker 2: Is she.
- 4:54Speaker 6: Kia said that her friend Grace was her next friend,
- 4:59Speaker 6: a gall and any of Grace there last night. I
- 5:03Speaker 6: was rather in though, Grace. What is Jennings? She's tall,
- 5:11Speaker 6: skinny black girl that helps you guys?
- 5:15Speaker 8: Oh, I don't want there, sweet.
- 5:21Speaker 1: The woman discovered on the garage floor was in fact
- 5:24Speaker 1: identified as twenty one year old Grace Jennings. She appeared
- 5:28Speaker 1: to have been stabbed multiple times. One of her ears
- 5:31Speaker 1: had been removed. The medical examiner would later conclude that
- 5:35Speaker 1: her injuries displayed signs of an attempted decapitation.
- 5:40Speaker 2: Who lives in this house? You do? Who else?
- 5:43Speaker 8: My daughter jan Isaac?
- 5:46Speaker 2: Isaac lives in here.
- 5:47Speaker 8: Isaac and Kiera mostly stayed in here. I mean they.
- 5:51Speaker 2: Know Isaac and Kiara are.
- 5:55Speaker 3: Togetherish, I don't understand their relationship entirely.
- 6:00Speaker 8: She get married at one point, so I can kind
- 6:02Speaker 8: of has my son in law.
- 6:07Speaker 1: As Kiara was handcuffed and escorted to the police cruiser,
- 6:10Speaker 1: officers noted cuts and bandages across her hands. Kiara would
- 6:15Speaker 1: later state that these were from earlier that morning, when
- 6:18Speaker 1: she attempted to make herself something to eat and picked
- 6:21Speaker 1: up the knife wrong. After Kiara was secured, officers made
- 6:26Speaker 1: their way over to a local cell phone shop, where
- 6:28Speaker 1: they expected to find the third resident of the house
- 6:30Speaker 1: on Jaguar Drive, twenty five year old Isaac Apodaca. His mother,
- 6:36Speaker 1: Linda Montoya, had placed the nine to one one call
- 6:39Speaker 1: leading police to Grace's body. She reported that her son
- 6:43Speaker 1: was waiting at the shops for police to arrive.
- 6:47Speaker 2: Come over here, you get come here.
- 6:49Speaker 5: You don't have any knives and any weapons on you? No, no,
- 6:53Speaker 5: just put.
- 6:53Speaker 7: It off or not, just put it on your nine
- 6:55Speaker 7: got to make sure you don't have any weapons.
- 6:56Speaker 2: Okay, should put your hands up.
- 6:58Speaker 7: Right yre heright here, mhm, I get it here for now, bro,
- 7:11Speaker 7: just because we're he looks like your girlfriend or if
- 7:14Speaker 7: we was in there, is uh really injured.
- 7:18Speaker 5: So for now we're gonna put you under the tension
- 7:20Speaker 5: of kinto.
- 7:21Speaker 7: We can figure this out.
- 7:22Speaker 5: You're not under arrest.
- 7:25Speaker 1: Isaac was escorted to a police cruiser. The owner of
- 7:29Speaker 1: the cell phone shop overheard the phone conversation between Isaac
- 7:33Speaker 1: and his mother, which had prompted the call to nine
- 7:35Speaker 1: one one.
- 7:37Speaker 2: What happened when he got here, Like she just kind
- 7:39Speaker 2: of tell me what's going on.
- 7:42Speaker 6: He just came in.
- 7:45Speaker 4: Of like even gravity to the things.
- 7:46Speaker 5: Okay, I'd like how to stumbling, not.
- 7:48Speaker 9: Really stumbling, but he just couldn't even talk and talk
- 7:52Speaker 9: to me, like, bro, you're okay, okay, like kind can
- 8:00Speaker 9: tell you what thoful and talk and started hearing.
- 8:06Speaker 4: A sea just that like you don't have to tell
- 8:09Speaker 4: me nothing.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Just chilled and then he came talking to somebody and.
- 8:14Speaker 5: He came in crying, kind of tearing. Shook it up.
- 8:17Speaker 4: But he said that he did something bad.
- 8:19Speaker 2: No, he said he didn't. He said he was he
- 8:22Speaker 2: witnessed something. He said, he witnessed something awful, and you can't,
- 8:26Speaker 2: I can't.
- 8:26Speaker 4: And then he just kept starting he couldn't even tell me.
- 8:30Speaker 9: He kind of when he was on the phone, he
- 8:35Speaker 9: said that you from what I heard is that he
- 8:39Speaker 9: bought a sword for he displayed and they used it
- 8:43Speaker 9: against another person and he believed that they were dead.
- 8:46Speaker 3: Okay.
- 8:48Speaker 1: After speaking with his mother over the phone, Isaac was
- 8:51Speaker 1: contacted directly by law enforcement dispatch to confirm the details.
- 8:55Speaker 1: To the dispatcher, he restated what he claimed to have
- 8:58Speaker 1: witnessed that morning, his sometimes girlfriend Kiara McCully standing over
- 9:04Speaker 1: Grace's dead body. I did it, she allegedly said to him.
- 9:09Speaker 5: So he said there was a kee mal because you
- 9:14Speaker 5: live in the garage, right.
- 9:15Speaker 4: Yes, you live in the garage.
- 9:18Speaker 2: And who's in the girl who lives within the garage?
- 9:20Speaker 2: Your girlfriend, Ciara mcully.
- 9:22Speaker 5: Okay, so can you tell me how did this culture inspire?
- 9:26Speaker 2: How did you? How did you call it?
- 9:29Speaker 5: I I was, I walked into the garage. I walked
- 9:36Speaker 5: into the garage. And when I walked into the garage,
- 9:41Speaker 5: she goes, oh, I just did it.
- 9:45Speaker 2: I don't like And who is this Ciara McCully.
- 9:49Speaker 5: She told you that very calmly, and everything flood on
- 9:54Speaker 5: her hands.
- 9:55Speaker 2: And okay.
- 10:03Speaker 1: Four years earlier, Lanny McCully had allowed her daughter's boyfriend
- 10:07Speaker 1: turned fiance, Isaac Apodaca, to move in. At first, the
- 10:12Speaker 1: young couple lived in the spare room of the main house,
- 10:14Speaker 1: and the family shared the space amicably. Home Videos posted
- 10:19Speaker 1: online captured happier times, holidays, birthdays, and silliness with their
- 10:24Speaker 1: five beloved cats.
- 10:27Speaker 7: Happy Birthday, do you happy birthing? Hi?
- 10:34Speaker 6: Isaiac?
- 10:35Speaker 8: Happy birthy too?
- 10:40Speaker 1: A deeper look, however, revealed something darker under the surface
- 10:44Speaker 1: of the young couple's social media accounts. Kiara used a
- 10:47Speaker 1: handful of different names across platforms. Froggie, Sage, and Maize,
- 10:53Speaker 1: to name a few. Many of her posts were typical
- 10:57Speaker 1: teenage content, vacations, cats, memes that she thought were clever,
- 11:05Speaker 1: but some took a stranger turn on TikTok. In the
- 11:09Speaker 1: days before Grace's murder, Kiara posted distorted videos of herself
- 11:13Speaker 1: and Isaac with a deep red filter, their contorted faces
- 11:18Speaker 1: overlaid with visual effects in loud maniacal laughter. In another video,
- 11:31Speaker 1: she lip synced to audio stating.
- 11:34Speaker 3: Can we all take a moment of fucking silence to
- 11:37Speaker 3: acknowledge the fact that, despite the bullshit, I have yet
- 11:40Speaker 3: to turn into a serial killer.
- 11:44Speaker 1: There were other signs that something was off with Kiara.
- 11:48Speaker 1: An ex boyfriend reported that she began to refer to
- 11:51Speaker 1: herself as an all powerful witch, that she intended to
- 11:56Speaker 1: hext people, that she could levitate, and that she was
- 11:59Speaker 1: able to predict the exact date of everyone's death. These delusions,
- 12:05Speaker 1: he said, were escalating. The last time this ex boyfriend
- 12:09Speaker 1: encountered her, she threatened him. He said that Kiara was
- 12:13Speaker 1: hostile towards him and said that her boyfriend could f
- 12:16Speaker 1: him up in a matter of seconds. Kiara must have
- 12:21Speaker 1: been referring to Isaac online. She referred to Isaac as
- 12:25Speaker 1: her ride or die. However, despite outward appearances, there were
- 12:29Speaker 1: definitely cracks forming in their relationship. Their three year engagement
- 12:37Speaker 1: had ended in early April following an argument that resulted
- 12:41Speaker 1: in a trip to the er with Kiara sustaining minor injuries.
- 12:45Speaker 1: Lannie had thrown Isaac from the house after that, only
- 12:48Speaker 1: to have her daughter routinely sneak him back in over
- 12:51Speaker 1: the following months. Lannie eventually conceded and allowed Isaac to
- 12:56Speaker 1: live there once more. Because they had spent years intending
- 13:00Speaker 1: to be married, Lannie had come to view Isaac as
- 13:02Speaker 1: a son, and she often referred to him as such.
- 13:07Speaker 1: The couple, who maintained an on again, off again intimate arrangement,
- 13:11Speaker 1: relocated from the house to the detached garage, where they
- 13:14Speaker 1: had a bit more space and privacy. There was also
- 13:19Speaker 1: drama in other areas of Kiara and Isaac's social life.
- 13:23Speaker 1: For example, they each had a history with Grace Jennings.
- 13:33Speaker 1: Grace was the reason Kiara and Isaac had met. Years earlier.
- 13:37Speaker 1: At the tender age of sixteen, Grace had entered into
- 13:40Speaker 1: a romantic relationship with a then twenty year old Isaac Abudaca.
- 13:44Speaker 1: It had been short lived, and the two had apparently
- 13:47Speaker 1: remained on good terms. Grace's relationship with Kiara, however, had
- 13:52Speaker 1: not ended well. They too, had been romantically involved, beginning
- 13:57Speaker 1: in twenty sixteen or twenty seventeen, after she had dated Isaac.
- 14:01Speaker 1: Kiara and Grace were involved for roughly eleven months. Accounts
- 14:06Speaker 1: vary as to what led to the animosity between the
- 14:08Speaker 1: two after they split, but what is not disputed is
- 14:12Speaker 1: that when the dust settled, Kiara maintained a deep seated
- 14:16Speaker 1: anger towards her ex girlfriend. Grace had tried everything possible
- 14:21Speaker 1: to avoid Kiara as a result.
- 14:24Speaker 10: Lets go was my girlfriend at one point, but she
- 14:27Speaker 10: we became friends afterwards. But this is psychotic. I'd just
- 14:31Speaker 10: gotten out of treatment. I was in there for eight months,
- 14:33Speaker 10: and I went to the mall to go hang out
- 14:36Speaker 10: with my sister, and I don't know, just chill. I
- 14:39Speaker 10: was enjoying being out in bout and I see one
- 14:42Speaker 10: of my homies and then I see her walking around talking,
- 14:45Speaker 10: chatting whatever, and this chick literally goes as shit, you
- 14:48Speaker 10: fucking not. Did you just get out of jail because
- 14:51Speaker 10: you stabbed me and cut me two months ago? Huh?
- 14:57Speaker 10: What till this bit, shried out up, No, the fuck
- 15:00Speaker 10: I didn't. I was in treatment, Like, yes, you did.
- 15:03Speaker 10: I have evidence on my arm. Looked at it and
- 15:06Speaker 10: it looks like she stabbed herself on her forearm, her
- 15:09Speaker 10: left forearm.
- 15:13Speaker 1: By the autumn of twenty twenty two, the two had
- 15:16Speaker 1: had very little to do with each other for years.
- 15:19Speaker 1: Grace had moved on with her life. On August twenty second,
- 15:22Speaker 1: her twenty first birthday, Grace became engaged to her boyfriend,
- 15:26Speaker 1: a man named Jackson. Amongst friends and family. They were
- 15:30Speaker 1: living in Albuquerque. Only three days before her death, however,
- 15:34Speaker 1: the two had a heated argument in parted ways. The
- 15:37Speaker 1: first location where Grace went to stay after the breakup
- 15:41Speaker 1: was not working out, so she reached out to friends,
- 15:44Speaker 1: seeking anyone who could help her find a place to crash.
- 15:48Speaker 1: Isaac Abodaka answered the call. Grace could stay with him,
- 15:52Speaker 1: he said. Only after she arrived Grace learned whose home
- 15:58Speaker 1: she had been invited to. Isaac Apudaca and Kiera McCully
- 16:07Speaker 1: were placed in separate interview rooms for questioning. Neither was
- 16:11Speaker 1: at that stage under arrest for the murder of Grace Jennings.
- 16:15Speaker 1: Investigators already knew that Grace had arrived at the house
- 16:18Speaker 1: only the day before. She had stayed the night in
- 16:21Speaker 1: the garage with both Isaac and Kiara. Twelve hours after
- 16:25Speaker 1: her arrival, she was dead. Isaac told the detective that
- 16:30Speaker 1: the three of them slept in the same bed that night.
- 16:32Speaker 1: In the morning, he claimed that Kiara had told him
- 16:35Speaker 1: he had to move out. She was furious that he
- 16:38Speaker 1: had invited Grace to stay. After packing some of his things,
- 16:42Speaker 1: he went to the mainhouse to use the restroom. After
- 16:45Speaker 1: what he estimated could only have been two to three minutes,
- 16:49Speaker 1: he returned and found Grace dead.
- 16:52Speaker 5: And then I launch him back into the garage. I
- 16:57Speaker 5: did it. It was a smile on her face, and
- 17:02Speaker 5: I looked at the ground and I was like, Uh,
- 17:10Speaker 5: what do I do now? I'm scared right now?
- 17:15Speaker 2: What are you scared of?
- 17:19Speaker 11: Of?
- 17:19Speaker 5: What just happened.
- 17:22Speaker 2: It's a lot to take in, I can imagine.
- 17:26Speaker 1: The timeline offered by Isaac was exact. Grace had arrived
- 17:30Speaker 1: at eleven thirty two pm the night before.
- 17:33Speaker 2: He said, what time did you guys wake up that?
- 17:36Speaker 2: What times did you wake up that?
- 17:37Speaker 5: I woke up at about seven.
- 17:39Speaker 2: Fifty seven to fifty eight. Yes, So did this, dude?
- 17:45Speaker 2: At what time did care tell you guys had to leave?
- 17:47Speaker 5: She told us we had to leave at about.
- 17:49Speaker 2: Eight eight thirty.
- 17:51Speaker 5: Okay, I'm being honest.
- 18:01Speaker 1: It was just before twelve pm when he witnessed Kiara's confession.
- 18:06Speaker 2: How long did use the rash? For?
- 18:08Speaker 5: About thirty seconds? It was quick number one?
- 18:12Speaker 2: Okay? What do you mean my number one? P?
- 18:16Speaker 3: Pee?
- 18:16Speaker 2: Okay? And then after you p you had immediately back
- 18:21Speaker 2: to the garage. Yes, surround what happened? You say that
- 18:23Speaker 2: was that.
- 18:26Speaker 5: Eleven?
- 18:27Speaker 2: Are you How certain are you about the time? I'm
- 18:32Speaker 2: really certain, really certain about the time.
- 18:35Speaker 1: Detectives believed that the injuries observed on Grace Jennings's body
- 18:39Speaker 1: were far too numerous and severe to have been inflicted
- 18:42Speaker 1: within the span of only two to three minutes while
- 18:45Speaker 1: Isaac was in the main house, as he claimed, It
- 18:48Speaker 1: was far more likely that he had stayed away for
- 18:50Speaker 1: a lengthier period of time, or that he had been
- 18:54Speaker 1: present in the garage at the time of the murder.
- 18:57Speaker 1: Isaac reported that he phoned his mother at noon.
- 19:01Speaker 2: Between when this happened twelve and I think we got
- 19:07Speaker 2: the call a little after one thirty, Yes, kind of
- 19:10Speaker 2: an hour and a half gap there. I know you
- 19:14Speaker 2: said you called your mom and she quickly called line online,
- 19:17Speaker 2: but it doesn't really seem to line up with our
- 19:18Speaker 2: timeline at least for Can you help make me understand
- 19:22Speaker 2: that was there a long period of time that you
- 19:24Speaker 2: and Kara were trying to figure out what was going
- 19:28Speaker 2: to happen.
- 19:29Speaker 5: There was a there was a long period of time.
- 19:32Speaker 5: It was when I was standing on the side of
- 19:33Speaker 5: the garage.
- 19:35Speaker 2: Tell me about that.
- 19:37Speaker 5: I was hyper ventilating on the side of the garage.
- 19:43Speaker 2: And I was like, You've been super truthful this whole
- 19:50Speaker 2: time from what I could tell, and we really much
- 19:52Speaker 2: appreciate that. I got one more question. I want to
- 19:58Speaker 2: be real truthful with it because you have this whole time. Okay, yes, A,
- 20:02Speaker 2: At any point did you think of or did you
- 20:06Speaker 2: did it cross your mind or did you start helping
- 20:09Speaker 2: Kiara with covering this suff at all?
- 20:13Speaker 6: No?
- 20:14Speaker 2: No, at any point did you help Kiara injure grace
- 20:20Speaker 2: or doing into grace? No.
- 20:23Speaker 3: No.
- 20:27Speaker 1: Kiera mccully's interview immediately took an unexpected turn when she
- 20:31Speaker 1: began to speak with a non existent person in the room.
- 20:34Speaker 1: She then helpfully explained to the detective her self. Diagnosis
- 20:39Speaker 1: was a disassociative identity disorder, a condition previously known as
- 20:44Speaker 1: multiple personality disorder. The detective was speaking with Froggy, a
- 20:49Speaker 1: persona she described as her stage name. Amongst her personas
- 20:54Speaker 1: was someone called Jinx, who she described as the troublemaker.
- 20:59Speaker 1: Then there was Abby who was the protective one, Jess
- 21:02Speaker 1: or Jessica, who she had not seen lately, and finally
- 21:07Speaker 1: little Kiara.
- 21:12Speaker 5: I was trying to sleep it.
- 21:15Speaker 6: Mm hmm.
- 21:21Speaker 5: If you want backing members who need it, Sorry, we're
- 21:26Speaker 5: talking to.
- 21:30Speaker 6: My best.
- 21:30Speaker 3: Guess is that I have the idea, but I'm not
- 21:32Speaker 3: a hundred sent certain associate if identity disorder one personality
- 21:42Speaker 3: I haven't seen in a long time, Like I haven't
- 21:45Speaker 3: communicated with her.
- 21:49Speaker 11: Wow, my name was jess Jessica, you always called it
- 21:56Speaker 11: jess any of the personalities, there's the little version of
- 22:03Speaker 11: me which actually responds to my biological name, my.
- 22:08Speaker 3: Government name, which is very dangerous for her, and I
- 22:12Speaker 3: don't I don't want her to get hurt.
- 22:15Speaker 5: God, honesty, she.
- 22:17Speaker 2: Responds to this.
- 22:18Speaker 1: Ki Kiara or Froggy, told the detective about her past
- 22:25Speaker 1: with Grace. She claimed that a video was produced in
- 22:28Speaker 1: twenty sixteen, when she was fourteen years old, that showed
- 22:32Speaker 1: her being assaulted by multiple men while Grace stood off
- 22:36Speaker 1: to the side of the screen collecting money. Santa Fe
- 22:40Speaker 1: Police later confirmed that around the time that Kiara claimed
- 22:43Speaker 1: this took place, she had in fact reported an incident
- 22:47Speaker 1: to police, though the details provided at that time did
- 22:51Speaker 1: not match those she claimed to the detective following Brace's murder,
- 22:58Speaker 1: Is she ever did Grace?
- 23:01Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 23:02Speaker 5: No, No, I'm not sure. What what do you think?
- 23:07Speaker 3: Well, I partially hope for her to be dead, but
- 23:10Speaker 3: I'm also like confused, like it was, I'm like, why would.
- 23:14Speaker 2: You hope that she's good?
- 23:16Speaker 3: I'm still angry at her, but I also won't have
- 23:18Speaker 3: hope that she'd be better. But it's like this frustrating
- 23:21Speaker 3: motion that I can't seem to pinpoint. She was the
- 23:26Speaker 3: first person I ever.
- 23:27Speaker 11: Loved and the first person to completely destroy It's.
- 23:37Speaker 3: A part of me hates her guts, who wants to
- 23:40Speaker 3: see her dead. The other part wants to see her
- 23:43Speaker 3: get better and see if she'd admit it, just fix it.
- 23:50Speaker 3: It's like I'm split. I don't know what's the better emotion.
- 23:56Speaker 3: Finding between them is really challenging.
- 23:59Speaker 2: Her.
- 24:00Speaker 3: That's why I didn't want hurt in my home.
- 24:01Speaker 5: It's just like this is too.
- 24:03Speaker 2: Much a lot of emotions. He said that part of
- 24:08Speaker 2: you would be okay if she was dead, right, Yeah,
- 24:13Speaker 2: it's honest.
- 24:15Speaker 4: Like all the people, I don't want to lie. Have
- 24:21Speaker 4: you ever thought about hurting.
- 24:22Speaker 5: Her or killing her? I had a couple dreams like that.
- 24:25Speaker 2: I had a couple of dreams like that.
- 24:26Speaker 3: Yeah, dependent on the dreams I've had, like a bunch
- 24:34Speaker 3: of murder dreams, I could call that.
- 24:37Speaker 2: Not a lot of people that is Grace.
- 24:43Speaker 3: Yeah, Grace is like the thumber one. I'm pissed at you.
- 24:48Speaker 1: In an effort to explain her condition, Kiara used a
- 24:51Speaker 1: video game analogy. It was as though all of her
- 24:54Speaker 1: personalities were connected to the same gaming system, like an Xbox,
- 24:59Speaker 1: but at any given point in time, only one of
- 25:02Speaker 1: them held the controller. The question was, when Grace Jennings
- 25:06Speaker 1: was brutally murdered, who was playing the game?
- 25:10Speaker 9: So?
- 25:11Speaker 4: Who who was playing the game?
- 25:12Speaker 2: Last night?
- 25:14Speaker 6: I felt like.
- 25:17Speaker 3: I was in control for a little while, and then
- 25:19Speaker 3: it just kept getting really foggy.
- 25:21Speaker 2: Like I was being drawn jam your control of meaning
- 25:27Speaker 2: project right, That's what I'm talking to you now projects
- 25:33Speaker 2: than do you think he killed Grace?
- 25:39Speaker 5: I'm not sure.
- 25:42Speaker 11: She is.
- 25:43Speaker 12: Dada just the dead person found the garage, give any
- 25:48Speaker 12: memory of that?
- 26:00Speaker 2: You think it's possible to each other.
- 26:03Speaker 5: I'm guessing myself right now, and the second guess.
- 26:05Speaker 11: I'm trying to figure out if it was one of them.
- 26:11Speaker 3: I don't want.
- 26:11Speaker 5: I haven't met yet.
- 26:14Speaker 1: Kiara claimed that an invisible force, which she believed to
- 26:18Speaker 1: be the spirit of Little Kiara, had held back her
- 26:21Speaker 1: arm when she first attempted to stab Grace in her
- 26:24Speaker 1: sleep with the dagger.
- 26:27Speaker 3: I had my dagger in my hand and I could
- 26:30Speaker 3: quite and then just stopped, like I felt a little
- 26:34Speaker 3: kid's hand hold me back, like it was Kiara Tommy, don't, don't, don't,
- 26:40Speaker 3: because that was also her best friend's.
- 26:42Speaker 2: Sister growing up.
- 26:45Speaker 1: Kiara may have had no recollection of committing the murder,
- 26:49Speaker 1: but she did admit to strange visions that she could
- 26:53Speaker 1: not explain.
- 26:55Speaker 3: It looked like an on my wall, an ear on
- 26:59Speaker 3: my wall.
- 27:00Speaker 2: It was really confusing.
- 27:02Speaker 5: Yeah, I think that was part of.
- 27:04Speaker 2: The dreams now, like a human ear. Yeah, just like
- 27:09Speaker 2: what the fuck? That's what it looked like.
- 27:12Speaker 3: It looked like one of Grace's but it had liked
- 27:14Speaker 3: and detection not that sure, Like what the fuck?
- 27:22Speaker 1: The possibility remained that Kiara, or one of her personalities
- 27:26Speaker 1: was not the only one responsible. Kiara was asked to
- 27:30Speaker 1: explain her relationship with Isaac. What role did he play
- 27:34Speaker 1: in this? The detective could not have been prepared to
- 27:38Speaker 1: make sense of the response he received.
- 27:42Speaker 3: So there's an organization that I think is in charge
- 27:45Speaker 3: of I probably shouldn't be saying with Tunca, m hm,
- 27:50Speaker 3: that's not it.
- 27:51Speaker 2: I'm just trying to understand that, Marina.
- 27:53Speaker 3: Well, that it's called ghost There like an underground version
- 27:58Speaker 3: of Cops in a way, but a little more intense day.
- 28:06Speaker 5: And I get rid of people who are.
- 28:11Speaker 3: Works in charge of sex, trafficking, in charge of anything
- 28:16Speaker 3: that has to.
- 28:17Speaker 8: Deal with her name kids us.
- 28:20Speaker 1: Kiara had joined Isaac's secret organization. She had an initiation
- 28:25Speaker 1: tattoo on her arm and another that represented membership in
- 28:29Speaker 1: her platoon. If she wanted to advance in the organization, however,
- 28:33Speaker 1: she needed to take action. She needed to become a
- 28:37Speaker 1: killer vigilante and exact justice upon those they believed deserved it.
- 28:43Speaker 1: Isaac had told her, if she wanted to level up,
- 28:47Speaker 1: she needed to kill Grace Jennings.
- 28:53Speaker 3: He kept trying to tell me, just do it, and
- 28:55Speaker 3: you're gonna just just kill her. Get rapped up. Yes,
- 29:01Speaker 3: he had we join and I'm like, I don't know
- 29:05Speaker 3: what the book's going on, talking about the black market,
- 29:11Speaker 3: ghost and bitcoin, the end of the world in twenty
- 29:14Speaker 3: four days.
- 29:18Speaker 2: There was a number he set by a number of
- 29:20Speaker 2: people he kill. Yeah, so many, forty forty people. Supposedly
- 29:25Speaker 2: it's a big club. Yeah, it's out of it. I
- 29:28Speaker 2: have it's all over, probably partially in Roswell.
- 29:31Speaker 3: He wasn't a gang.
- 29:33Speaker 2: Where it is that he no longer listened Roswell. It's confusing.
- 29:37Speaker 2: It's more game with him.
- 29:39Speaker 5: I don't know what the neighbor.
- 29:47Speaker 1: During Isaac's interview, he signed a waiver that gave Santa
- 29:51Speaker 1: Fe investigators access to his phone data. When they began
- 29:54Speaker 1: to read through his messages, those inviting Grace to stay
- 29:57Speaker 1: and then exchanges with Kiara after her arrival, a twisted
- 30:01Speaker 1: plot emerged. Despite Isaac's description of the three of them
- 30:06Speaker 1: hanging out that night and sharing the bed to sleep,
- 30:09Speaker 1: Grace's messages that morning suggested that she was concerned over
- 30:12Speaker 1: whether Kiara even knew she was in the garage. On
- 30:16Speaker 1: the morning she was killed, she messaged Isaac, why is
- 30:19Speaker 1: she kicking you out? And does she know I'm here?
- 30:23Speaker 1: More disturbing were the messages exchanged between Kiara and Isaac
- 30:27Speaker 1: throughout that night as Grace slept. These messages exchanged on
- 30:32Speaker 1: Facebook appeared to show the two planning the murder and
- 30:35Speaker 1: discussing the subsequent cleanup. Detectives read through Isaac's correspondence with
- 30:42Speaker 1: him in the interview room. In this way, he was
- 30:45Speaker 1: able to provide context to the conversations in real time.
- 30:49Speaker 1: He claimed that only some of the messages sent from
- 30:52Speaker 1: his device had been written by him. The most incriminating ones,
- 30:56Speaker 1: he said, were sent from his other phone. Kiara must
- 31:01Speaker 1: have been holding a conversation with herself using this other device,
- 31:05Speaker 1: he claimed.
- 31:07Speaker 2: Yeah, why don't you pop off my little firecracker? What
- 31:11Speaker 2: would you like me to do? Stab her? I don't know.
- 31:16Speaker 2: I don't have the energy.
- 31:17Speaker 6: To do shit.
- 31:21Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 31:22Speaker 5: That's not me, that's not you, that's not me.
- 31:25Speaker 2: Who is it?
- 31:26Speaker 5: That's the other phone that's been they were being used
- 31:30Speaker 5: to message back and forth.
- 31:32Speaker 2: Isaac, This is a getting really weird, man.
- 31:34Speaker 5: I have a second phone.
- 31:35Speaker 2: You have a second phone? Yes, where is that phone?
- 31:38Speaker 5: That's at the house? Okay, it is log into the
- 31:40Speaker 5: same Facebook account.
- 31:42Speaker 2: Okay, I don't know, man, These these messages look a
- 31:47Speaker 2: lot like there's some conspiring going on, some planning going on.
- 31:53Speaker 1: The detective then read through an exchange that took place
- 31:56Speaker 1: as they prepared for bed, and then after they believed
- 31:59Speaker 1: Grace had fallen asleep, Kiara had likely joined them in
- 32:03Speaker 1: the garage at that time.
- 32:06Speaker 4: Dagger because it's blunt?
- 32:08Speaker 2: What does that mean?
- 32:12Speaker 4: Why are you telling her dagger? Because it's blunt?
- 32:15Speaker 5: She was asking. She asked me a question in the room,
- 32:18Speaker 5: like what what is the difference between the dagger and
- 32:21Speaker 5: the lord?
- 32:22Speaker 2: Okay, and I.
- 32:24Speaker 4: Because it's why is it blunt better?
- 32:27Speaker 2: She says? You say it cuts like butter? She says,
- 32:29Speaker 2: just kinda stab the throat.
- 32:32Speaker 4: Is that what she's trying to say?
- 32:34Speaker 2: The thought?
- 32:35Speaker 4: Just going to stab the thought?
- 32:36Speaker 2: Yes?
- 32:37Speaker 5: Instant?
- 32:38Speaker 2: Or will it take long? What does she mean? Instead?
- 32:41Speaker 4: What do we do about the mess? What do we
- 32:44Speaker 4: do about the mess?
- 32:47Speaker 2: What? We burn it? And I'll buy a new blankets
- 32:55Speaker 2: in bed? What's going on here? Is it?
- 33:01Speaker 11: She?
- 33:02Speaker 5: I was talking to her and what mess she was
- 33:07Speaker 5: talking about? She said, stab, I was gonna stab the thought.
- 33:12Speaker 5: And I thought thought like, oh, like she was poking
- 33:17Speaker 5: the thought that was in her head about her dagger.
- 33:21Speaker 4: Okay, what about the mess?
- 33:22Speaker 2: What mess?
- 33:26Speaker 5: She had made? A mess? And the in the bed?
- 33:32Speaker 2: What kind of mess?
- 33:35Speaker 4: Pops poop kind of mess?
- 33:38Speaker 2: Yes, we burn it and I'll buy new blankets and
- 33:40Speaker 2: bed Yeah, but until we can. I love these sheets,
- 33:45Speaker 2: and my favorite fuzzy blanket is here. I know, just
- 33:48Speaker 2: intense wash tomorrow has your poxide and ice? I was
- 33:52Speaker 2: sure we'll get it out. Yes, can you help this time?
- 33:55Speaker 6: Yes?
- 33:56Speaker 4: I am just waiting for you to make the first move.
- 34:00Speaker 2: What does she mean? I'm waiting for you to make
- 34:01Speaker 2: the first move? She will wait till sleep? Shall we
- 34:07Speaker 2: wait till sleep? So she pooped herself last night? Yes?
- 34:13Speaker 2: And did you guys wash the sheets?
- 34:15Speaker 3: No?
- 34:16Speaker 2: So you guys slept in a bed full of poop?
- 34:18Speaker 5: Yes?
- 34:19Speaker 2: So when we go into the garage lay for search
- 34:22Speaker 2: one of there's poop on the sheets? Yes? Okay, gotcha?
- 34:27Speaker 2: What are you? What are you guys waiting for till sleep?
- 34:30Speaker 2: Shall we wait till sleep? Remember when you told me
- 34:33Speaker 2: don't be a pussy when I kissed you. Yeah, yeah, yeah, brat.
- 34:36Speaker 2: We will have to take care of the mess asap
- 34:38Speaker 2: after we finish, we will have take care of the message.
- 34:42Speaker 4: I thought she already pooped herself. What mess A you're
- 34:44Speaker 4: going to take care of?
- 34:46Speaker 1: I go know.
- 34:49Speaker 2: You're in charge of clean up. Okay. I can't tell
- 34:52Speaker 2: if she's falling asleep. It feels like it. Her feet
- 34:55Speaker 2: are on my side. I wish she'd make the first
- 34:59Speaker 2: move for once. Remember, you'll move up to the ranks.
- 35:02Speaker 2: Plus you get perks in the black market since this
- 35:04Speaker 2: is your first, your first What see, Isaac, what the
- 35:12Speaker 2: hell happened?
- 35:14Speaker 4: Tell me what happened? Fortle shn we stop making up
- 35:17Speaker 4: lives of this messages?
- 35:19Speaker 2: What the hell happened? Listening?
- 35:21Speaker 1: Isaac did not admit to luring Grace to the McCully
- 35:24Speaker 1: house with the intent to kill her. He denied planning
- 35:28Speaker 1: the murder, and he refused to acknowledge that the messages
- 35:32Speaker 1: on his phone to Kiara encouraging her to commit the
- 35:35Speaker 1: murder were sent by him. That is, until the detective
- 35:40Speaker 1: read one message that did away with any ambiguity. It began,
- 35:45Speaker 1: I want you to kill her and your suffering by
- 35:49Speaker 1: ending her joy?
- 35:52Speaker 2: What do you mean here when you say that, Huggle,
- 35:55Speaker 2: I am wanting you to kill her. You have to
- 35:58Speaker 2: end your suffering by any her joy.
- 36:10Speaker 5: I want to show you.
- 36:17Speaker 3: I do.
- 36:19Speaker 5: What it means in that text.
- 36:20Speaker 2: You meant what it says in that text?
- 36:22Speaker 5: Yes?
- 36:22Speaker 4: Why come on, man, how.
- 36:27Speaker 2: We make sense of all this year?
- 36:31Speaker 5: She was bringing He was bringing great suffering to Kiara?
- 36:35Speaker 2: And who was Grace? Grace is bringing great suffering to Kiara? Yes,
- 36:43Speaker 2: and that's why you want to Cia kill Grace.
- 36:47Speaker 1: It seems that both Isaac and Kiara believed, or claimed
- 36:51Speaker 1: to believe, the story they told themselves about Grace Jennings
- 36:55Speaker 1: that she had somehow sold fourteen year old Kiara to
- 36:59Speaker 1: a group of men. The video of the incident allegedly
- 37:02Speaker 1: circulated online. It was this unsupported assertion that Isaac also
- 37:07Speaker 1: made to the detective to justify the murder, though he
- 37:11Speaker 1: fell short of revealing the secret operations of Ghost, the
- 37:15Speaker 1: gang of vigilantes who he claimed to lead.
- 37:19Speaker 2: Hey, Isaac, you you know it's legal to plan killing someone, right?
- 37:24Speaker 3: Yes?
- 37:28Speaker 2: Do be a little bit of accountability for that?
- 37:30Speaker 5: They said that, right?
- 37:31Speaker 2: So we are in a file. Awards are age.
- 37:34Speaker 1: All tonight Camp, Isaac Apodaca and Kiara McCully were charged
- 37:39Speaker 1: with first degree murder. One month after the murder. In
- 37:43Speaker 1: November twenty twenty two, a judge found Kiera McCully was
- 37:47Speaker 1: not competent to stand trial. She was sent to the
- 37:51Speaker 1: New Mexico Behavioral Health Institute in Las Vegas, New Mexico,
- 37:54Speaker 1: to receive treatment. Only a month after that, however, a
- 37:58Speaker 1: state evaluation found that she was competent and so was
- 38:02Speaker 1: rebooked into the Santa Fe County Jail. In January twenty
- 38:06Speaker 1: twenty three, after a pre trial hearing found sufficient evidence
- 38:12Speaker 1: to continue with the murder charges against him. Isaac Apodaca
- 38:16Speaker 1: initially accepted a plea deal, the details of which were
- 38:19Speaker 1: not placed on the public record. That is because in
- 38:23Speaker 1: November twenty twenty four, Isaac fired his attorneys and had
- 38:28Speaker 1: the judge tear up the deal. He re entered a
- 38:31Speaker 1: plea of not guilty. A backlog at the state's crime
- 38:36Speaker 1: lab initially set back the trial date by years. Now,
- 38:40Speaker 1: with a new legal team that needs to get up
- 38:42Speaker 1: to speed, the start date for Isaac's trial has been
- 38:45Speaker 1: pushed back once more. In February twenty twenty five, However,
- 38:50Speaker 1: Hiarra McCully made a deal. She pleaded guilty to second
- 38:55Speaker 1: degree murder in exchange for her future testimony against her
- 38:59Speaker 1: former fiance, Isaac Apodaca, should his case ever reach trial.
- 39:04Speaker 1: She faces up to thirty years in prison under the deal.
- 39:07Speaker 1: Despite the downgrade and charges to second degree murder, the
- 39:11Speaker 1: Deputy district Attorney said the extra time is due to
- 39:15Speaker 1: the brutality of the murder. Grace Jennings is desperately missed
- 39:34Speaker 1: by her loved ones. Her aunt Catherine Jennings told the
- 39:38Speaker 1: Santa Fe New Mexican she was the laughter, she was
- 39:41Speaker 1: the joy, the singing, the dancing. She was the friend,
- 39:46Speaker 1: she was the sister, she was the daughter, the beloved niece.
- 39:50Speaker 1: The cousin is just a beautiful soul with a lot
- 40:03Speaker 1: of hope. And that was the tragic case of Grace Jennings.
- 40:16Speaker 1: Thank you for joining me, and a special thanks this
- 40:19Speaker 1: week to Phenom, Paul Spicer, Lauren h. Jake Kelly and
- 40:24Speaker 1: Boss Office for becoming Sherlock Holmes members in joining our lounge.
- 40:29Speaker 1: I'm Kevin, this is just thought lounge and I'll see
- 40:32Speaker 1: in the next one.
- 40:36Speaker 2: Go ahead and settle to be selective doing all the research,
- 40:39Speaker 2: keeping it objective, always being effective.
- 40:41Speaker 5: Can say he got a neck, pick it a litter.
- 40:43Speaker 5: You see how Newton got his back the content that
- 40:46Speaker 5: you need. This could be a new sign.

- 40:50Speaker 10: In and like love that it feels like the whole world.
