- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Danish with Fexingo. I'm Lucas, and Luna is here with me. Luna: Hej, Luna! I'm ready to learn some more Danish. What are we diving into today? Lucas: Today we're going to the library. It's a great place to practice Danish and discover new books. Luna: Oh, I love libraries. I remember we did library basics before, but I still get stuck when I want to ask for recommendations. Lucas: Perfect, let's start with that. If you want to ask a librarian for a recommendation, you say: Kan du anbefale en god bog? Luna: Kan du anbefale en god bog? That sounds like 'can you recommend a good book?'. Lucas: Exactly. Kan du anbefale en god bog? Listen again: Kan du anbefale en god bog? Luna: Kan du anbefale en god bog. I think I've got it. Lucas: Let's say you want to check out a book. You need to ask: Hvordan låner jeg en bog? How do I borrow a book? Luna: Hvordan låner jeg en bog? That's a mouthful. Hvordan låner jeg en bog. Lucas: Almost perfect. Hvordan låner jeg en bog? The 'jeg' is soft. Hvordan låner jeg en bog? Luna: Hvordan låner jeg en bog? Yes, that feels better. Lucas: Now, if you have a specific book you want to borrow, you can say: Jeg vil gerne låne denne bog. I'd like to borrow this book. Luna: Jeg vil gerne låne denne bog. That's useful. Jeg vil gerne låne denne bog. Lucas: Great. And you might want to ask how long you can keep it: Hvor længe kan jeg låne den? How long can I borrow it? Luna: Hvor længe kan jeg låne den? Let me try: Hvor længe kan jeg låne den? Lucas: Spot on. And if you need more time, you can say: Jeg vil gerne forny mit lån. I'd like to renew my loan. Luna: Jeg vil gerne forny mit lån. Forny means renew, right? Lucas: Yes, exactly. Jeg vil gerne forny mit lån. Good. Luna: So we have: Kan du anbefale en god bog? Hvordan låner jeg en bog? Jeg vil gerne låne denne bog. Hvor længe kan jeg låne den? And Jeg vil gerne forny mit lån. That's a lot, but I think I can remember. Lucas: You're doing great. Let's use them in a quick scene. Imagine you're at a library in Copenhagen. You walk up to the librarian and say: Kan du anbefale en god bog? Luna: Kan du anbefale en god bog? The librarian says yes and hands me a book. I say: Jeg vil gerne låne denne bog. Lucas: Then you ask: Hvor længe kan jeg låne den? Luna: Hvor længe kan jeg låne den? She says four weeks. Perfect. Then I ask: Hvordan låner jeg en bog? She shows me the machine. Lucas: And if you need more time later, you say: Jeg vil gerne forny mit lån. Luna: Jeg vil gerne forny mit lån. I can see myself using that. Lucas: Great practice. You know, if you find these library phrases useful and want to keep learning with us ad-free, listeners like you make that possible. You can support the show at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Luna: Yeah, it really helps us keep going. And it's a small way to say thanks if you're getting value. Lucas: Exactly. Now, let's try a little drill. I'll say the English, and you say the Danish. Ready? Luna: Ready. Lucas: Can you recommend a good book? Luna: Kan du anbefale en god bog? Lucas: How do I borrow a book? Luna: Hvordan låner jeg en bog? Lucas: I'd like to borrow this book. Luna: Jeg vil gerne låne denne bog. Lucas: How long can I borrow it? Luna: Hvor længe kan jeg låne den? Lucas: I'd like to renew my loan. Luna: Jeg vil gerne forny mit lån. Lucas: Perfect, you nailed them all. Luna: Thanks, Lucas. I feel much more confident about going to the library in Danish now. Lucas: That's the goal. Practice these phrases, and next time you're at a library, try them out. Keep up the great work, and we'll see you next time on Learn Danish with Fexingo. Luna: Hej-hej, everyone!
