Latest / Beyond The Horizon / Mega Edition: The Chad Daybell Trial (Part 5) (10/19/26)
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: What's up, everyone, and welcome back to the program. In
- 0:03Speaker 1: this episode, we're gonna get right back to the Chad
- 0:05Speaker 1: Daybell trial, and we're gonna pick up with day number
- 0:09Speaker 1: five of testimony. To do that, once again, we're going
- 0:13Speaker 1: to use the East Idaho News, and the author is
- 0:17Speaker 1: Nate Eaton. 8.37 a.m., jurors are in their seats. John
- 0:22Speaker 1: Pryor is at the defense table, sitting next to Chad Daybell.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Chad is wearing a blue dress shirt and a red tie.
- 0:29Speaker 1: Fremont County Prosecutor Lindsey Blake, Madison County Prosecutor Rob Wood,
- 0:34Speaker 1: Special Prosecutor Ingrid Beatty, and Fremont County Deputy Prosecutor Rocky
- 0:38Speaker 1: Wixom are at the prosecution's table. 8.39 a.m. Boyce says
- 0:44Speaker 1: a question has arisen about who the alternate jurors will be.
- 0:48Speaker 1: He says according to Idaho law, when the case is
- 0:50Speaker 1: ready for deliberation, the alternate jurors will be randomly selected.
- 0:55Speaker 1: So what happens is, You have the jurors who are
- 0:58Speaker 1: going to be selected, and then you have the alternates.
- 1:01Speaker 1: But nobody knows what's what until the trial concludes. And
- 1:05Speaker 1: when that happens, they'll have the final tally, and they'll
- 1:09Speaker 1: know who the alternates are. 8.40 a.m. Detective Kinsadus is
- 1:14Speaker 1: sworn in. Wood will be questioning him and says he
- 1:17Speaker 1: has a lot of evidence he plans to discuss with
- 1:20Speaker 1: the detective. The bailiff carries a large tote full of
- 1:23Speaker 1: binders and paperwork to the witness stand. 8.42 a.m. Consaitis
- 1:29Speaker 1: has been a detective since 2011. On November 27, 2019,
- 1:33Speaker 1: Consaitis became aware that Detective Hermosillo was conducting searching warrants
- 1:40Speaker 1: at three townhomes on Pioneer Road, 174, 175, and 107.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Consaitis walked through apartment 175 to look for evidence. He
- 1:51Speaker 1: found a printer in the bedroom and an invoice for
- 1:54Speaker 1: a storage unit at Self Storage Plus, 8.45 a.m. Consaitis
- 2:00Speaker 1: went to the storage unit with a warrant. He found
- 2:03Speaker 1: a couple of items inside, a tote, a baseball glove,
- 2:07Speaker 1: and some other things. He wrote a warrant in December
- 2:10Speaker 1: 2019 for a post office box in Sugar City. He
- 2:14Speaker 1: found a large bundle of unopened mail, around 100 pieces,
- 2:18Speaker 1: addressed to Lori Vallow, Charles Vallow, and Alex Cox. And
- 2:22Speaker 1: it's funny how Alex Cox is always somehow hanging around
- 2:26Speaker 1: in the background. And he was never far away when
- 2:29Speaker 1: they needed some dirty work done. 8.46 a.m. There were
- 2:34Speaker 1: cell phone bills, bank statements, and letters from IRS in
- 2:38Speaker 1: the post office box. Probably not the kind of letters
- 2:41Speaker 1: you want to ignore, huh? The IRS starts sending you letters.
- 2:44Speaker 1: You better pay attention. Some abandoned mail from apartment 107
- 2:48Speaker 1: was also turned into the police department. Considus serve warrants
- 2:52Speaker 1: and subpoenas to banks and cell phone companies. 8.48 a.m.
- 2:58Speaker 1: Considus says in a missing persons case, a lot of
- 3:00Speaker 1: information can be learned by looking at bank statements and
- 3:04Speaker 1: financial accounts. Yeah, because if somebody's using their debit cards,
- 3:08Speaker 1: taking money out of the bank, depositing it, whatever, then
- 3:12Speaker 1: you can have a money trail maybe, and you can
- 3:14Speaker 1: follow that money trail to the person. But in this case,
- 3:18Speaker 1: we know that that's not the case because those kids
- 3:21Speaker 1: were dead. However, they can build a pattern of fraud
- 3:24Speaker 1: by going back and forensically looking at Lori Vallow's bank
- 3:28Speaker 1: account and the bank accounts of the dead kids. 8.50am.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Wood displays an exhibit on the screen. It's a list
- 3:36Speaker 1: of financial accounts associated to Lori and Tylee. The first
- 3:40Speaker 1: account on the list is from J.P. Chase, a joint
- 3:42Speaker 1: account with Lori and Charles. There is another J.P. Chase
- 3:46Speaker 1: account with Lori and Tylee, There is a business account
- 3:49Speaker 1: with Lori and Charles. There is also a BBA Compass
- 3:52Speaker 1: account for Lori. And there is another BBVA Compass account
- 3:57Speaker 1: with Tylee and Lori. There is a Barclays Hawaiian credit
- 4:00Speaker 1: card that Lori shares with Charles. There is a Barclays
- 4:04Speaker 1: credit card between Lori and Alex. There is a First
- 4:07Speaker 1: Hawaiian Bank account for Lori and a Chase Southwest card
- 4:11Speaker 1: for Lori. There is another business account for Charles and
- 4:14Speaker 1: a $ 2 million life insurance policy for Lori. 8.56 a.m.
- 4:20Speaker 1: Wood moves to admit another exhibit. It has several pages.
- 4:23Speaker 1: The first page is an electronic signature card for the
- 4:26Speaker 1: JPMorgan Chase account. Charles and Lori use this account in Arizona,
- 4:30Speaker 1: and it interacts with Tylee's joint account, and they send
- 4:33Speaker 1: money between the accounts. 8.59 a.m. We now see a
- 4:38Speaker 1: document showing the history of deposits, transfers, and debits on
- 4:42Speaker 1: the Chase account belonging to Lori and Charles. The next
- 4:45Speaker 1: document is the signature card on the JPMorgan Chase application
- 4:49Speaker 1: belonging to Lori and Tylee. 9.01am. The next document shows
- 4:54Speaker 1: Tylee's activity on the bank account. She uses it regularly.
- 4:59Speaker 1: The death benefits she got following her father's death go
- 5:02Speaker 1: into this account. She was spending money at stores, fast food,
- 5:06Speaker 1: gas stations on an almost daily basis. Well, I could
- 5:09Speaker 1: see that. You're a kid, you have access to this
- 5:12Speaker 1: debit card, and you know it's going to have money
- 5:14Speaker 1: on it every month. Chances are you're going to go
- 5:17Speaker 1: out and buy some snacks. Unfortunately, it looks like there
- 5:20Speaker 1: was some other stuff going on with this card as well.
- 5:22Speaker 1: We know that she was giving her brother money, and
- 5:25Speaker 1: we also know that she was giving Lori money. So
- 5:27Speaker 1: was Lori using these cards to pay for her day-to-day?
- 5:32Speaker 1: More than likely, she was. 902 AM Considus says the
- 5:37Speaker 1: majority of Tylee's spending... happened at brick-and-mortar type of establishments.
- 5:42Speaker 1: There were only a few online payments, but she was
- 5:44Speaker 1: physically out spending money. 9.03 a.m. The next document is
- 5:49Speaker 1: a partial monthly statement showing August 23, 2019 through September 3,
- 5:55Speaker 1: 2019 from Tylee Ryan's account. Through August, she is actively
- 5:59Speaker 1: out spending money. Toward the 1st of September, it shows
- 6:02Speaker 1: Tylee's financial activities moving from Arizona to Idaho. Her last
- 6:08Speaker 1: in-person use of her card was done at a McDonald's
- 6:11Speaker 1: in St. George, Utah on September 1st, 9.05 a.m. Concitus
- 6:16Speaker 1: says in the middle of August, Lori contacted Social Security
- 6:20Speaker 1: and stopped having the monthly stipends deposited into Tylee's account.
- 6:25Speaker 1: The deposits were switched to Lori's personal account. There were
- 6:28Speaker 1: no more funds going into Tylee's account. The next exhibit
- 6:32Speaker 1: shows a statement saying Tylee's ending balance was zero. The
- 6:36Speaker 1: money was transferred to Lori's account. And keep in mind,
- 6:39Speaker 1: when they're talking about Lori Vallow, she was in a
- 6:42Speaker 1: conspiracy with Chad Daybell, so they're all guilty of the crimes.
- 6:47Speaker 1: Just keep that in mind. So what they're doing is
- 6:50Speaker 1: setting the foundation when they talk about Lori Vallow, who
- 6:53Speaker 1: is a co-conspirator who has already been convicted. 9.07 a.m.
- 6:58Speaker 1: The next exhibit is a document showing Lori's online bank
- 7:01Speaker 1: activity on Tylee's account. Many of the jurors are looking
- 7:05Speaker 1: intently at the screens in front of them as Concitus
- 7:08Speaker 1: points out different items on the document. 9.10 a.m. Tylee
- 7:13Speaker 1: and Lori each have their own individual pins. If either
- 7:17Speaker 1: of them made changes to the account, it would indicate
- 7:19Speaker 1: who was doing it and making the changes based on
- 7:23Speaker 1: the pin login. This account was closed on September 20th, 2019. 9.12 a.m.
- 7:29Speaker 1: The next exhibit is a checking summary. showing a zero
- 7:32Speaker 1: balance on Tylee's JPMorgan Chase account for anything after September 20th.
- 7:38Speaker 1: The following exhibit is a signature card application page for
- 7:41Speaker 1: JPMorgan Chase for Charles and Lori Vallow. 9.16 a.m. Wood
- 7:47Speaker 1: moves to admit more financial documents, Concitus talking about Lori's
- 7:51Speaker 1: BBVA account, and we see a sample portion of monthly statements.
- 7:56Speaker 1: And remember, the financials are very important here because it
- 8:00Speaker 1: cuts straight to the heart of the opening statement and
- 8:03Speaker 1: what the main point is that the prosecution's trying to make.
- 8:07Speaker 1: And that point is, Lori Vallow was willing to go
- 8:10Speaker 1: to any length to get this money. Even if that
- 8:13Speaker 1: meant killing her children, conspiring to have her ex-husband killed,
- 8:18Speaker 1: and conspiring to have Tammy Daybell killed. 9.19 a.m. Tylee's
- 8:23Speaker 1: benefits were deposited on August 28, 2019 in the BBVA account.
- 8:29Speaker 1: Concitus says police believe Tylee was killed 10 days later. 9.20 a.m.
- 8:35Speaker 1: Two deposits were made into Lori's account in September of 2019,
- 8:38Speaker 1: one for JJ's benefits and one for Lori's benefits. Wood
- 8:43Speaker 1: asks if the deposit date is significant to Concitus. He
- 8:47Speaker 1: gets emotional and says yes, JJ was killed a few
- 8:51Speaker 1: days later. 9.23 a.m. Wood admits another exhibit. It's a
- 8:56Speaker 1: chart showing Tylee's Social Security benefit deposit history. It shows
- 9:00Speaker 1: deposits going into Tylee's account, but then the deposits start
- 9:04Speaker 1: going into Lori's account after Tylee's death. 9.26 a.m. After
- 9:10Speaker 1: the account change happened, $ 7, 465 of Tylee's benefits went into
- 9:12Speaker 1: Lori's account. 9.28 a.m. The next exhibit is a chart
- 9:21Speaker 1: showing JJ's Social Security benefits being deposited into Lori's account.
- 9:25Speaker 1: Total amount after JJ's last proof of life was $ 7, 835, 9.33 a.m.
- 9:28Speaker 1: A new exhibit is a summary showing Tylee and Lori's
- 9:30Speaker 1: BBVA account. It was opened August 19, 2019. The following
- 9:42Speaker 1: exhibit is a translation history of Tylee's BBVA account. Concita
- 9:47Speaker 1: says Tylee was not receiving any deposits from Social Security.
- 9:51Speaker 1: All the deposits were from her mom. The transactions show
- 9:55Speaker 1: the bank card was used along the move from Arizona
- 9:58Speaker 1: to Utah. 937. a.m. All other transactions in connection to
- 10:03Speaker 1: this account were done online, Concita says. The next page
- 10:06Speaker 1: shows transaction history on Tylee's account from August through January
- 10:11Speaker 1: of 2020. Concita says this activity is completely opposite of
- 10:15Speaker 1: what Tylee was using on her J.P. Chase account Everything
- 10:19Speaker 1: was done online with the exception of a September 17th
- 10:24Speaker 1: at Costa Vida and another purchase on October 7th. So
- 10:28Speaker 1: when your pattern changes as far as your financial pattern
- 10:32Speaker 1: and you're missing or something happened to you, yeah, they're
- 10:35Speaker 1: going to have some questions as they're doing their forensic
- 10:38Speaker 1: financial investigation. Maybe Stunad and Scafusa should have consulted with
- 10:43Speaker 1: the spirits before they tried to become criminals because thankfully
- 10:47Speaker 1: they're terrible at this shit just like they're terrible at
- 10:50Speaker 1: being parents, and just like they're terrible at being functional
- 10:54Speaker 1: human beings. 9.38 a.m. Concita says there was money going
- 11:00Speaker 1: into Tylee's account from Lori's account. The money was then
- 11:04Speaker 1: immediately Venmoed out to Colby Ryan. The next exhibit is
- 11:08Speaker 1: a copy of the receipt at Costa Vida in Rexburg
- 11:11Speaker 1: on September 2019. Another page shows a purchase of at
- 11:16Speaker 1: Costa Vida in Amman on October 7th, 2019. And why
- 11:21Speaker 1: was this money being sent to her brother in the
- 11:23Speaker 1: first place? I mean, I get it if you're in
- 11:26Speaker 1: a position, a spot, every now and then, ask your
- 11:29Speaker 1: sister for a couple bucks or something, but your little
- 11:32Speaker 1: ass sister? All seems weird to me, folks. It all
- 11:36Speaker 1: seems very, very weird to me. But then I remind
- 11:38Speaker 1: myself that everybody's not me. And everybody lives their lives
- 11:42Speaker 1: the way they're going to live their life. So what
- 11:44Speaker 1: might be odd to me might not be odd to
- 11:46Speaker 1: other people. But the fact that this little girl was
- 11:50Speaker 1: sending a bunch of money to all these adults sets
- 11:53Speaker 1: off all kinds of red flags in my mind. 9.40 a.m.
- 11:57Speaker 1: Larry and Kay Woodcock are sitting alone in the victim
- 12:00Speaker 1: section of the courtroom today. Kay has her hand on
- 12:03Speaker 1: Larry's shoulder. 9.42 a.m. The next few documents are Barclays
- 12:08Speaker 1: credit card applications for Lori and Charles from 2015 and 2016.
- 12:13Speaker 1: The next exhibit shows transaction activity on the credit card
- 12:18Speaker 1: belonging to Lori and Charles. There's a payment to Valley
- 12:21Speaker 1: of the Sun Mortuary on the credit card made the
- 12:24Speaker 1: day after Charles was shot and killed. There's another transaction
- 12:28Speaker 1: for an Allegiant airline ticket for Chad Daybell from Provo,
- 12:31Speaker 1: Utah to Mesa, Arizona. Oh, I'm sure that's just a coincidence, too.
- 12:35Speaker 1: Chad was just coming down there to be, I don't know,
- 12:38Speaker 1: support for Lori after she conspired to kill her husband? 9.46 a.m.
- 12:45Speaker 1: The airline ticket purchase was made during the time Tammy
- 12:48Speaker 1: Daybell was alive. Wood displays a new document showing Alex
- 12:52Speaker 1: Cox's monthly credit card statement. Alex and Lori share the account.
- 12:57Speaker 1: At the bottom of the page, there's an airfare purchase
- 12:59Speaker 1: for Lori between Mesa, Phoenix, and Idaho Falls on February
- 13:04Speaker 1: 25th 2019. Idaho Falls Airport is the closest airport to
- 13:09Speaker 1: Chad's home. 9.48 a.m. We now see purchases Lori made
- 13:14Speaker 1: on the credit card showing she bought airfare for Tylee
- 13:17Speaker 1: Ryan and one of Tylee's friends from Phoenix to Lahu
- 13:21Speaker 1: on Kauai. Lori also brought a plane ticket for Chad
- 13:24Speaker 1: Daybell to go from Idaho Falls to Phoenix in March
- 13:28Speaker 1: of 2019. 9.51 a.m. The next document is Alex Cox's
- 13:33Speaker 1: application for a Barclays credit card. Wood moves to admit
- 13:37Speaker 1: to business records affidavits. 9.53 a.m. A document is displayed
- 13:42Speaker 1: on the screen showing the business agreement with Chrysler concerning
- 13:46Speaker 1: the Jeep. The following exhibit is the rental agreement Lori
- 13:49Speaker 1: signed for the Pioneer Road apartment. 9.55 a.m. Concitus points
- 13:55Speaker 1: out that on the application, the reason for leaving her
- 13:57Speaker 1: prior home is her daughter is attending BYU-Idaho. It says
- 14:02Speaker 1: Tylee graduated at 16, was too young to live alone,
- 14:05Speaker 1: so Lori was coming with her. Lori listed her income
- 14:08Speaker 1: as Social Security over $ 5, 000. 9.57 a.m. Consaitis says he
- 14:15Speaker 1: also reviewed the financial information for Alex Cox, which shows
- 14:19Speaker 1: a financial account attribution list related to Alex. He says
- 14:23Speaker 1: an everyday account at Desert Financial Credit Union and had
- 14:27Speaker 1: a decent account balance, Consaitis says. 10 a.m. Alex had
- 14:32Speaker 1: a Mercury MasterCard and two Capital One credit cards. He
- 14:35Speaker 1: opened up an account at Mountain American Credit Union when
- 14:39Speaker 1: he moved to Rexburg. The next exhibit, a consumer loan
- 14:42Speaker 1: application for a 2007 Ford F-150 pickup truck in the
- 14:46Speaker 1: name of Alex Cox. 10.01 a.m. Considus says Alex was
- 14:51Speaker 1: responsible on his main bank account and made payments to
- 14:54Speaker 1: his credit cards from this account. Alex worked in Arizona
- 14:58Speaker 1: and got two to three paychecks a month. He quit
- 15:00Speaker 1: his job when he moved to Idaho. Just before he
- 15:04Speaker 1: quit his job, he got a loan for $ 21, 000 on
- 15:07Speaker 1: August 8th. He had no regular income after he moved
- 15:10Speaker 1: to Idaho because he didn't have a job. Always a
- 15:12Speaker 1: good idea to take out a loan, then quit your job,
- 15:15Speaker 1: and then move somewhere and plan on not getting another one.
- 15:21Speaker 1: Alex began purchasing firearms in August 2019. He had not
- 15:26Speaker 1: bought firearms before. Consaitis says, would ask Concitus if there
- 15:31Speaker 1: was a reason listed for Alex getting the $ 21, 000 loan.
- 15:35Speaker 1: Alex listed medical reasons. Concitus says he never found any
- 15:39Speaker 1: medical documents regarding Alex's health during this time. 10.08 a.m.
- 15:45Speaker 1: Boyce says we're going to take 30-minute morning break. We
- 15:48Speaker 1: will continue until noon after the break. And that's where
- 15:51Speaker 1: we're going to wrap up this first episode for day
- 15:54Speaker 1: number five of testimony at the Chad Daybell trial. In
- 15:58Speaker 1: the next episode, we'll pick up with the remainder of
- 16:02Speaker 1: the morning session. Then we'll kick off into the afternoon
- 16:05Speaker 1: session and we'll keep it rolling. But until then, all
- 16:09Speaker 1: of the information that goes with this episode can be
- 16:11Speaker 1: found in the description box. What's up, everyone, and welcome
- 16:15Speaker 1: back to the program. In this episode, we're going to
- 16:18Speaker 1: get right back to it and pick up where we
- 16:20Speaker 1: left off with day number five of the Chad Daybell trial.
- 16:25Speaker 1: And to guide us on our journey, once again, we'll
- 16:28Speaker 1: be using EastIdahoNews.com, and the author is Nate Eaton. 10.44 a.m.
- 16:36Speaker 1: We are back in the courtroom, Pryor and Chad, Chad
- 16:39Speaker 1: at their table, as prosecutors get settled in. Boyce has
- 16:43Speaker 1: just taken the bench. Concitus returns to the witness stand,
- 16:47Speaker 1: and jurors will be brought in shortly. 10.48 a.m. Judge
- 16:52Speaker 1: notes the blinds are now open by request of the jurors.
- 16:55Speaker 1: They were previously closed for the camera video feed. It's
- 16:58Speaker 1: nice having some sunlight in here, but I know it
- 17:00Speaker 1: affects the look of the live stream. 10.50am. Wood continues
- 17:06Speaker 1: questioning Concitus. He explains several exhibits detailing credit card applications. 10.54am.
- 17:13Speaker 1: We now see a timeline of Alex Cox's financial details
- 17:17Speaker 1: from February 7th, 2019 through December 12th, 2019, which was
- 17:19Speaker 1: the day of Alex's death. Alex had a steady income
- 17:27Speaker 1: from February through August. He applied for the loan on
- 17:30Speaker 1: August 9th. It was deposited into the account and from
- 17:34Speaker 1: August 10th through October 24th, Alex made 46 transactions for
- 17:39Speaker 1: gun-related purchases. On November 13th, Alex opened Mountain America Credit
- 17:44Speaker 1: Union account in Rexburg and he dies less than a
- 17:48Speaker 1: month later. So he takes this loan out and has
- 17:51Speaker 1: no job and decides he's going to use all this
- 17:53Speaker 1: money to to buy guns and weapons and bullets and
- 17:56Speaker 1: the rest of it? Sure seems to me, when you
- 17:59Speaker 1: look at everything here, and you look at Alex Cox
- 18:01Speaker 1: in general, that he planned on checking out. Now, I
- 18:05Speaker 1: know that the official narrative says that he died of
- 18:07Speaker 1: natural causes, but I don't believe it. I don't think
- 18:12Speaker 1: that this man died of natural causes. And if he did,
- 18:16Speaker 1: that is very convenient for Lori Vallow and Chad Daybell.
- 18:20Speaker 1: And for me, the thing that seals it is the
- 18:22Speaker 1: fact that they found Narcan in his system. You don't
- 18:25Speaker 1: have that in your system if you're just looking to
- 18:28Speaker 1: get a buzz, right? The only reason you would have
- 18:30Speaker 1: that in your system is to counteract a opioid overdose
- 18:35Speaker 1: or what somebody thought was an opioid overdose. So I
- 18:39Speaker 1: have my suspicions about the official narrative when it comes
- 18:42Speaker 1: to Alex Cox for sure. 10.58 a.m. We now see
- 18:47Speaker 1: a list of Chad Daybell's bank accounts in the transaction history.
- 18:51Speaker 1: on a few of those accounts. 11.03 a.m. The next
- 18:55Speaker 1: exhibit is a bank account application for Chad Daybell at
- 18:58Speaker 1: First Hawaiian Bank, followed by a credit card application for
- 19:02Speaker 1: Chad Daybell at Citibank. 11.05 a.m. The next exhibit is
- 19:06Speaker 1: a Wells Fargo Visa card application for Chad. The following
- 19:10Speaker 1: is Capital One monthly statements for Chad and Tammy. 11.07 a.m.
- 19:16Speaker 1: The next document shows a Hawaii Dreams reality document from
- 19:20Speaker 1: Julie Black. The email to Julie Black was sent from chad.daybell
- 19:25Speaker 1: at gmail.com on November 8th, 2019, three days after Chad
- 19:30Speaker 1: and Lori got married. We are interested in seeing this property.
- 19:34Speaker 1: Would the owners be interested in leasing this property to
- 19:37Speaker 1: a clean couple with no kids and no pets? So,
- 19:42Speaker 1: while these kids are still missing, Lori Vallow and Chad
- 19:45Speaker 1: Daybell are out here trying to find an apartment or
- 19:48Speaker 1: a house, and according to them, they have no children. Meanwhile,
- 19:52Speaker 1: the rest of the world is still looking for these kids.
- 19:55Speaker 1: But Chad and Lori, they knew what happened. They knew
- 19:58Speaker 1: what happened to Tylee. They knew what happened to JJ.
- 20:01Speaker 1: And you know how they knew? Well, they knew because
- 20:04Speaker 1: they were the ones who put those plans into motion.
- 20:07Speaker 1: It might have been Alex Cox who carried out the
- 20:09Speaker 1: actual murder, but it was Lori and Chad, in my opinion,
- 20:14Speaker 1: that got this whole entire ball rolling and were the
- 20:17Speaker 1: ones who came up with this plan. 11.10 a.m. Considus
- 20:21Speaker 1: says at the time Chad sent the email, the kids
- 20:23Speaker 1: were missing. We now see a Cable 1 document showing
- 20:26Speaker 1: Lori signed up for service in September of 2019. It
- 20:29Speaker 1: was for service in apartment 107, but she was living
- 20:32Speaker 1: in apartment 175. 11.13 a.m. Considus says Lori was in
- 20:40Speaker 1: possession of Tylee's cell phone and Venmo transfers were being
- 20:43Speaker 1: made through Tylee's account. The next document shows a Cable
- 20:46Speaker 1: 1 document for Alex Cox for the other apartment. Considus
- 20:51Speaker 1: says Alex and Lori switched apartments. Yeah, they were switching
- 20:55Speaker 1: lots of things. My guess is they were switching bodily
- 20:58Speaker 1: fluids too. I know, I know, gross as hell, but
- 21:01Speaker 1: when you look at their history and you look at
- 21:04Speaker 1: the relationships, Between Lori Vallow and her brother Alex, it's
- 21:08Speaker 1: hard not to think they were out here doing some
- 21:11Speaker 1: Lannister-type shit. 11.15 a.m. The next document is a letter
- 21:16Speaker 1: from Windstream. Considus says Lori was transferring money into Tylee's
- 21:21Speaker 1: account and then immediately sent via Venmo to other places.
- 21:25Speaker 1: Windstream Services provides Trax IP accounts and says the Venmo
- 21:30Speaker 1: transfer was done on October 10, 2019, in Missouri. 1118 AM.
- 21:37Speaker 1: The next exhibit is a residence in Bill in Kansas City, Missouri.
- 21:41Speaker 1: The IP of the Venmo account was tracked to this hotel.
- 21:45Speaker 1: The room was registered to Melanie Boudreau. Lori traveled to
- 21:49Speaker 1: Kansas City with Melanie. Lori was in Missouri using Tylee's
- 21:53Speaker 1: phone and Tylee wasn't there. Concita says, And again with
- 21:58Speaker 1: Melanie and Zulema and the rest of these people. I
- 22:03Speaker 1: have my doubts about their... Ignorance, if you will, when
- 22:06Speaker 1: it comes to these kids and them being missing. 11.19 a.m.
- 22:11Speaker 1: Consaitis says Lori and Melanie flew from Phoenix to Missouri,
- 22:15Speaker 1: according to flight records. There were only two people listed
- 22:18Speaker 1: on the hotel folio. 11.21 a.m. Consaitis now talks about
- 22:24Speaker 1: doing a search for pharmaceutical records in Arizona, Montana, Hawaii,
- 22:29Speaker 1: and Idaho. Consaitis says early on in the case, they
- 22:33Speaker 1: received a tip that J.J. and Tylee might be held
- 22:36Speaker 1: in a compound in Montana, so that's why he searched
- 22:39Speaker 1: drug records in Montana. And whenever you're dealing with wild-ass, crazy,
- 22:45Speaker 1: religious extremists, you never know. Maybe there is a compound somewhere,
- 22:50Speaker 1: and they have some kind of Waco David Koresh type
- 22:53Speaker 1: shit going on. Thankfully, that wasn't the case here, but
- 22:56Speaker 1: when you're investigating it, you have to do your due diligence,
- 23:00Speaker 1: and you have to track things down wherever they might lead. 11.25 a.m.
- 23:06Speaker 1: Considus found prescription records for JJ in Hawaii, but not
- 23:10Speaker 1: in the time frame they were looking for. Nothing was
- 23:12Speaker 1: found for Tylee in Hawaii. Considus searched for multiple names
- 23:17Speaker 1: related to JJ, with the last names Ryan and Vallow.
- 23:21Speaker 1: Considus also searched for Melanie Boudreau and Melanie Pawlowski. Considus
- 23:26Speaker 1: says Tylee Ryan once traveled by Tylee Vallow One way
- 23:30Speaker 1: but returned, Tylee Ryan. 11.28 a.m. Concitus learned Arizona only
- 23:37Speaker 1: keeps track of narcotics and opioids, no other medications. Concitus
- 23:42Speaker 1: now reads an email Lori sent to her accountant. She
- 23:45Speaker 1: explains to the accountant that Charles Vallow died and she
- 23:48Speaker 1: wanted information about how to forward tax returns to her
- 23:51Speaker 1: new address. The accountant responds saying he is sorry to
- 23:55Speaker 1: hear about Charles. The email is dated September 9th, 2019.
- 24:00Speaker 1: Concita says Tylee's last known proof of life was September
- 24:04Speaker 1: 8th or 9th, so the email was sent hours after
- 24:08Speaker 1: Tylee was buried. So this poor kid is murdered, buried,
- 24:13Speaker 1: and Lori Vallow's out here talking about tax returns and
- 24:16Speaker 1: the rest of it? What a disgusting, callous skufuza. 11.34 a.m.
- 24:23Speaker 1: Flight records from American Airlines are being submitted for evidence.
- 24:27Speaker 1: Considus says there is flight information for Tylee and Lori.
- 24:31Speaker 1: Tylee flew to Hawaii in February and March of 2019.
- 24:35Speaker 1: Lori flew multiple times with American. There are also flights
- 24:39Speaker 1: for Chad Daybell. 11.39 a.m. Considus says Chad and Lori
- 24:45Speaker 1: flew to Hawaii on November 3rd on American Airlines. Next
- 24:49Speaker 1: exhibit shows Southwest Airline records. Lori and Charles traveled on
- 24:53Speaker 1: the airline in 2019. J.J. had six trips between Phoenix
- 24:59Speaker 1: and Houston prior to them moving to Idaho. There were
- 25:02Speaker 1: no flights for Tylee. 11.41 a.m. Wood moves to admit
- 25:08Speaker 1: a huge stack of papers, like the size of a ream.
- 25:11Speaker 1: As the bailiff hands Pryor the stack, he jokingly says,
- 25:14Speaker 1: I'll just do some light reading, Judge. Pryor is now
- 25:17Speaker 1: reviewing them. 11.44 a.m. Pryor asks to approach. The attorneys
- 25:23Speaker 1: gather with Boyce in the corner of the courtroom. And
- 25:26Speaker 1: white noise is played. 11.46 a.m. Attorneys are back at
- 25:30Speaker 1: their tables. The next exhibit shows records from Allegiant Airlines.
- 25:34Speaker 1: There were no flights recorded for JJ and Tylee. But
- 25:37Speaker 1: multiple flights were taken between Arizona and Idaho for Chad Daybell,
- 25:42Speaker 1: Lori Vallow, Alex Cox, and Melanie Boudreau in 2019. And
- 25:48Speaker 1: what they're trying to do here is show you a
- 25:50Speaker 1: pattern of Lori and Chad traveling without these children. And
- 25:54Speaker 1: if you have kids, especially minors, you're not going to
- 25:57Speaker 1: be traveling all over the place without them. And nobody's
- 26:00Speaker 1: watching them. Nobody's keeping an eye on them. So what
- 26:03Speaker 1: they're doing here is establishing a pattern of Chad and
- 26:06Speaker 1: Lori being without the children in their presence. And that
- 26:10Speaker 1: helps build their timeline, obviously. 11.48 a.m. The next document
- 26:15Speaker 1: is a hotel folio from a holiday inn in Houston
- 26:19Speaker 1: from April 26th to April 29th, 2019. Lori was living
- 26:25Speaker 1: in Houston with Charles, and this hotel folio syncs up
- 26:28Speaker 1: with the dates Charles traveled to Houston, Consaitis says. 11.50 a.m.
- 26:34Speaker 1: The next document is a United Airlines record paid for
- 26:37Speaker 1: by Lori Vallow, but the ticket is for Chad Daybell. 11.52 a.m.
- 26:43Speaker 1: Consaitis has prepared a timeline showing all the travel with
- 26:46Speaker 1: Chad and Lori. He walks the jury through the timeline
- 26:49Speaker 1: Chad and Lori met on October 26, 2018. The timeline
- 26:54Speaker 1: starts in January 2019. Chad took a flight to Arizona
- 26:59Speaker 1: in January. In March, Lori flew from Phoenix to Idaho Falls,
- 27:03Speaker 1: but canceled it for unknown reasons. She ended up booking
- 27:07Speaker 1: a flight and flew to Hawaii instead. Mid to late March,
- 27:11Speaker 1: Chad flew from Idaho Falls to Phoenix. The flight was
- 27:14Speaker 1: booked by Lori. In April, Lori flew one way from
- 27:18Speaker 1: Phoenix to Idaho Falls. She then flew back on April 26th.
- 27:22Speaker 1: Chad flew round-trip from Idaho Falls to Houston. Lori paid
- 27:26Speaker 1: for the flight. Chad used his Spring Creek business credit
- 27:29Speaker 1: card to pay for the baggage. In May, Lori flew
- 27:33Speaker 1: one way from Phoenix to Provo. Charles Vallow died July 11, 2019.
- 27:41Speaker 1: After his death, Lori traveled under the name of Lori Ryan,
- 27:45Speaker 1: not Vallow. In late August, Lori and Melanie B. flew
- 27:49Speaker 1: from Phoenix to Idaho Falls. From October 8th Through October 13th,
- 27:54Speaker 1: Lori flies from Idaho Falls to Phoenix and then goes
- 27:57Speaker 1: to Missouri. Tammy was shot in her driveway on October 9th,
- 28:01Speaker 1: and on October 17th, Lori flies from Las Vegas to Hawaii.
- 28:06Speaker 1: She was supposed to return on the 21st. She flies
- 28:10Speaker 1: back from Hawaii and flies to Idaho Falls. In early November,
- 28:14Speaker 1: Chad flew from Salt Lake City to Kauai. Chad booked
- 28:17Speaker 1: the Kauai flight five days after Tammy's funeral service. So
- 28:21Speaker 1: his wife dies, Five days later, this dude's on the phone,
- 28:25Speaker 1: headed to Kauai to hang out with Skafuza. Can somebody
- 28:29Speaker 1: please explain to me why his kids are still supporting him?
- 28:33Speaker 1: If my mom died, and then five days later my
- 28:36Speaker 1: dad was on the beach with some Skafuza, and then
- 28:39Speaker 1: I find out all these other details, murdered kids, my
- 28:42Speaker 1: mom might have been murdered, forget about asking me to
- 28:45Speaker 1: provide testimony in your defense. I'd never want to talk
- 28:48Speaker 1: to you again. So it's wild to me that these kids...
- 28:51Speaker 1: are just like, oh, you know what? Our dad's innocent.
- 28:54Speaker 1: He didn't do this. It's not in his character. Meanwhile,
- 28:58Speaker 1: five days after your mom's dead, he's on the beach
- 29:00Speaker 1: in Hawaii with some lady? 12 noon. The last page
- 29:04Speaker 1: of the timeline shows Lori and Chad flew from Hawaii
- 29:07Speaker 1: to Phoenix in November and then to Idaho Falls. On
- 29:10Speaker 1: November 28th, Chad flew his kids and spouses to California.
- 29:15Speaker 1: No record of Tylee or JJ on the trip. Last
- 29:18Speaker 1: box shows Chad and Lori flew from LAX to Hawaii
- 29:21Speaker 1: December of 2019, 12.02pm, lunch recess, back in an hour. Alright,
- 29:28Speaker 1: so we're going to take our break here as well,
- 29:30Speaker 1: and in the next episode, we'll finish up with the
- 29:33Speaker 1: recap of Day five of the Chad Daybell trial. All
- 29:38Speaker 1: of the information that goes with this episode can be
- 29:40Speaker 1: found in the description box. What's up, everyone, and welcome
- 29:45Speaker 1: back to the program. We're going to pick up where
- 29:48Speaker 1: we left off with day number five of Chad Daybell's trial.
- 29:53Speaker 1: Once again, the article we're using is from eastidahonews.com, and
- 29:58Speaker 1: the author of this article is is Nate Eaton. 1.02 p.m.
- 30:02Speaker 1: We are back in the courtroom. The bailiff reminds everyone
- 30:05Speaker 1: to silence their phones, watches, and computers. There are around
- 30:09Speaker 1: 25 people in the gallery today. Detective Concitus remains on
- 30:14Speaker 1: the stand. 1.10 p.m. Boyce is on the bench. He
- 30:18Speaker 1: says there will be a brief motion hearing right now
- 30:21Speaker 1: outside the presence of the jury. 1.12 p.m. Pryor says
- 30:26Speaker 1: he needs guidance from the court. about questioning Concitus about firearms.
- 30:30Speaker 1: He says the 2007 felony case involving Alex Cox and
- 30:34Speaker 1: Joseph Ryan may come into play as Pryor cross-examines Concitus.
- 30:39Speaker 1: Boyce has ruled that incident cannot come into play during
- 30:42Speaker 1: the trial. Wood argues the 2007 event shouldn't be brought
- 30:46Speaker 1: into this trial. Apparently, Pryor wants to bring up whether
- 30:50Speaker 1: Alex legally or illegally bought the weapons. And Pryor is
- 30:54Speaker 1: attempting to make it out like Alex Cox is the
- 30:58Speaker 1: only villain here. He had illegal guns, this, that, the
- 31:02Speaker 1: other thing. And what he's trying to do is to
- 31:05Speaker 1: get a little bit of reasonable doubt sewn into the
- 31:08Speaker 1: minds of the jurors, right? Oh, it wasn't my client.
- 31:12Speaker 1: It could have been Alex Cox. My client didn't do this.
- 31:16Speaker 1: He wasn't involved in killing these kids. You didn't find
- 31:19Speaker 1: any of his DNA. Okay. But the big problem for
- 31:22Speaker 1: Chad Daybell and his legal team is the conspiracy charge.
- 31:26Speaker 1: And just to reiterate, when you're hit with conspiracy to
- 31:29Speaker 1: commit murder, you don't have to be the one that
- 31:31Speaker 1: actually carries out the action of murdering somebody. You just
- 31:36Speaker 1: have to be involved in the planning stages. You have
- 31:39Speaker 1: to be involved in talking about it, laying out whatever
- 31:42Speaker 1: sort of blueprint you folks are going to follow. And
- 31:45Speaker 1: that's what Chad Daybell is being charged with. So I
- 31:49Speaker 1: understand the misdirection that Pryor's trying to throw here, but
- 31:52Speaker 1: I don't think that it's going to work. 1.16 p.m.
- 31:56Speaker 1: Boyce says if the matter comes up and Pryor wants
- 31:58Speaker 1: to inquire, he can also ask a generic question, like
- 32:02Speaker 1: if the witness is aware Alex Cox has a firearms felony,
- 32:06Speaker 1: but not get specific. He can inquire, but not get
- 32:09Speaker 1: into detail about the victim. 1.20 p.m. Jurors are back
- 32:14Speaker 1: in their seats and Wood has no further questions for Kounsaitis.
- 32:17Speaker 1: Pryor will now question the witness. 1.21 p.m. As Pryor
- 32:22Speaker 1: walked to the podium, he said to the gallery in
- 32:24Speaker 1: front of Wood, if I had known that was going
- 32:26Speaker 1: to happen, I would have been prepared, with a smile.
- 32:30Speaker 1: Wood objects to the comment. Boyce didn't hear it and
- 32:33Speaker 1: calls a sidebar. The sidebar is over and apparently all
- 32:37Speaker 1: is resolved. 1.22 p.m. Pryor asks Concitus how many accounts
- 32:42Speaker 1: Alex shared with Lori. Concitus says they shared one Barclays
- 32:46Speaker 1: credit card. Oh, I'm sure they were sharing a lot
- 32:49Speaker 1: more than that. According to everything we've heard about old
- 32:52Speaker 1: beaver face Alex Cox and his relationship with Lori Vallow,
- 32:56Speaker 1: his sister, certainly seems to me that they were out
- 32:59Speaker 1: here living that Lannister-type lifestyle. 1.24 p.m. Pryor shows the
- 33:05Speaker 1: travel timeline prepared by Concitus. He asks if one of
- 33:08Speaker 1: the flights from Idaho Falls to Mesa was for business
- 33:12Speaker 1: or to record a podcast. Concitus says he does not know.
- 33:15Speaker 1: Pryor asks about another trip and asks if it was
- 33:18Speaker 1: a business trip. Considus is not aware. Pryor asks if
- 33:22Speaker 1: he is aware of Chad's occupation. Considus says he owned
- 33:26Speaker 1: a publishing company, wrote some books, spoke at events, and
- 33:29Speaker 1: recorded podcasts. 1.26 p.m. Pryor asks Mr. Daybell, traveling twice
- 33:35Speaker 1: has anything to do with Charles Vallow's death. Considus says
- 33:38Speaker 1: it has nothing to do with his death. Pryor asks
- 33:41Speaker 1: if he put it on the timeline to get a
- 33:43Speaker 1: reaction from the jury. Wood objects. The objection is sustained.
- 33:48Speaker 1: Boyce says we need a sidebar and they all leave
- 33:50Speaker 1: the courtroom. Yeah, he's about to go and admonish Pryor
- 33:54Speaker 1: outside of the earshot of the court. And that's because
- 33:57Speaker 1: Pryor's out here acting foolish. But I understand why. He
- 34:02Speaker 1: has nothing else to go on, right? His only hope
- 34:04Speaker 1: is loopholes and technicalities. That is the only hope that
- 34:07Speaker 1: these folks have. People like Chad Daybell who are caught
- 34:10Speaker 1: dead to rights. They don't have evidence to back up
- 34:13Speaker 1: what they're talking about. They don't have any corroborating witnesses. Instead,
- 34:18Speaker 1: all of the evidence is piled up against them. So
- 34:20Speaker 1: what do they do? They rely on loopholes and technicalities. 1.28 p.m.
- 34:26Speaker 1: The court reporter has now left the room with Boyce's
- 34:28Speaker 1: staff attorney. 1.35 p.m. All the attorneys return to the
- 34:33Speaker 1: courtroom and Boyce is back on the bench. Boyce says
- 34:36Speaker 1: there was a concern about unauthorized audio recordings of the proceedings.
- 34:41Speaker 1: Boyce says people could be held in contempt. if there
- 34:44Speaker 1: are recordings. And they're not messing around with that. Boyce
- 34:48Speaker 1: will definitely slap somebody with contempt if they're out here
- 34:51Speaker 1: recording their proceedings. That's why he put out the order
- 34:55Speaker 1: governing courthouse rules. That way nobody can say, oh, we
- 34:58Speaker 1: didn't know what to do or how to conduct ourselves.
- 35:02Speaker 1: There's a whole ass guideline for how to conduct yourselves,
- 35:05Speaker 1: as if adults should even need that, but here we are. 1.37 p.m.
- 35:10Speaker 1: Pryor returns the question in Concitus. He refers to the
- 35:13Speaker 1: timeline and asks the detectives how many flights Laurie paid
- 35:17Speaker 1: for Chad. Concitus says there were two flights, January and
- 35:21Speaker 1: March of 2019. Pryor says this has nothing to do
- 35:25Speaker 1: with the death of Charles Vallow. 1.39 p.m. Pryor asks
- 35:29Speaker 1: if Concitus knows all the facts surrounding Charles Vallow's death.
- 35:33Speaker 1: Concitus says not all of them, but he knows Chad
- 35:36Speaker 1: was not implicated in the deaths. Pryor says that by
- 35:40Speaker 1: putting the deaths On the timeline, it seems that Considus
- 35:43Speaker 1: is implicating Chad in connection to the death. Considus says no. Well,
- 35:48Speaker 1: in my opinion, it's all part of the story. Because
- 35:52Speaker 1: Charles had to be out of the way. Even if
- 35:54Speaker 1: Chad wasn't involved in conspiring to kill Charles, which I
- 35:58Speaker 1: have my doubts about, it still shows a pattern of
- 36:02Speaker 1: Lori Vallow having an affair with Chad. And it shows
- 36:05Speaker 1: her creeping around with this dude right before her husband
- 36:09Speaker 1: gets blasted. So yeah, I think it's pretty relevant. 1.42 p.m.
- 36:14Speaker 1: Pryor moves to admit exhibits showing Alex Cox searching the
- 36:18Speaker 1: internet for firearms. Pryor asks Concitus if he's aware that
- 36:22Speaker 1: Alex looked at firearms on other occasions. Concitus says no.
- 36:26Speaker 1: Pryor asks Concitus if he was aware that Alex had
- 36:30Speaker 1: a felony conviction prohibiting him from purchasing firearms. Concitus says
- 36:35Speaker 1: there was an arrest, but it did not prohibit him
- 36:37Speaker 1: from purchasing firearms. 1.45 p.m. Pryor asks Concitus about the
- 36:43Speaker 1: time frame he searched for information on Alex Cox looking
- 36:46Speaker 1: up firearms. Concitus says it was during the time JJ
- 36:50Speaker 1: and Tylee were missing. Pryor asks if the detective is
- 36:53Speaker 1: aware about the paintball gun incident with Tammy Daybell. Concitus is. Well,
- 36:58Speaker 1: we don't know if it was a paintball. That's what
- 37:00Speaker 1: Tammy referred to it as, but we know now that
- 37:03Speaker 1: it was something a lot more sinister. 1.47 p.m. Pryor
- 37:08Speaker 1: asks Concidus if Chad and Lori ever had a joint
- 37:11Speaker 1: bank account. He says he doesn't think so, even after
- 37:14Speaker 1: they were married. Pryor says they never commingled their money,
- 37:18Speaker 1: but Alex and Lori did. So you don't have a
- 37:21Speaker 1: joint account with your husband, but you have a joint
- 37:23Speaker 1: account with your brother? Yeah, nothing odd there. 1.48pm Pryor
- 37:30Speaker 1: asks who were the people who went to Costa Vida.
- 37:33Speaker 1: Consaitis tried to get video showing who ate at the restaurant, too,
- 37:37Speaker 1: but too much time had passed and the surveillance was erased.
- 37:41Speaker 1: Tylee's phone was in the immediate area of the cell
- 37:44Speaker 1: tower next to Costa Vida, Consaitis says. When Chad and
- 37:48Speaker 1: Lori were detained in Hawaii, Lori had Tylee's phone. So
- 37:52Speaker 1: why would Lori have Tylee's phone? What 16-year-old girl is
- 37:57Speaker 1: giving up their phone, first of all? Second of all,
- 38:00Speaker 1: why does Lori have it? Third of all, Where is Tylee? Oh,
- 38:04Speaker 1: that's right. You and your disgusting ass stew not of
- 38:07Speaker 1: a husband. Well, you killed her. 1.50 p.m. Pryor asks
- 38:13Speaker 1: Concitus if it would surprise him if Alex Cox visited
- 38:17Speaker 1: Costa Vida. Wood objects and Boyce sustains. Concitus says all
- 38:21Speaker 1: he can testify to is the fact Tylee's phone was
- 38:24Speaker 1: in the area of the restaurant. 1.51 p.m. Pryor asks
- 38:28Speaker 1: Concitus if he had the ability to check Alex's phone.
- 38:32Speaker 1: to see if he was at Costa Vida. Consaita says
- 38:35Speaker 1: Tylee's card was used and Tylee's phone was in the
- 38:38Speaker 1: area of the restaurant. That's all he can testify to.
- 38:41Speaker 1: Pryor asks if Chad Daybell was there. Consaita says that's unknown. 1.53 p.m.
- 38:47Speaker 1: Consaita says there's no information to suggest Chad took any
- 38:51Speaker 1: of the Social Security funds from JJ or Tylee. Consaita
- 38:55Speaker 1: says correct. Pryor says Lori Vallow is the only person
- 38:59Speaker 1: who took the money and it is not a reflection
- 39:01Speaker 1: on Chad. Considus says, correct. No, I'm sure that he
- 39:05Speaker 1: wasn't chirping in her ear. I'm sure he had nothing
- 39:08Speaker 1: to do with the fact that she wanted all of
- 39:10Speaker 1: this money. Give me a break. Now, you can't really
- 39:13Speaker 1: pin it on Chad Daybell, probably. They can't prove it
- 39:16Speaker 1: beyond a reasonable doubt. But don't sit here and piss
- 39:20Speaker 1: on my back and tell me it's raining. 1.54 p.m.
- 39:24Speaker 1: Pryor has no questions. Wood has some brief follow-up. He
- 39:28Speaker 1: asks Considus if he was responsible for GPS data. The
- 39:32Speaker 1: detective says no. Wood asks if during his review of finances,
- 39:37Speaker 1: he was aware of Lori and Chad being in a
- 39:39Speaker 1: business together. Considus says no. But they were in a
- 39:42Speaker 1: relationship together? Yes, Considus answers. Wood asks if Lori was
- 39:47Speaker 1: married to Chad when she received some of the funds.
- 39:50Speaker 1: Concitus says yes. Wood has no further questions. Concitus will
- 39:55Speaker 1: be recalled later. 1.58 p.m. Next witness is FBI forensic
- 40:01Speaker 1: accountant Michael Douglas. He also testified in Lori Vallow's trial
- 40:04Speaker 1: last year. 2.01 p.m. Wood questioning Douglas. He asked him
- 40:09Speaker 1: to explain how audits and other investigations are done. When
- 40:13Speaker 1: he was brought into the investigation, he started building a spreadsheet...
- 40:17Speaker 1: and got to include around 80 accounts. And that's what
- 40:21Speaker 1: they'll do. They will go into your life, forensically speaking,
- 40:26Speaker 1: when we're talking about finances, and turn things inside out.
- 40:30Speaker 1: Every transaction you've ever made, you know, the whole thing.
- 40:34Speaker 1: And then they'll build these spreadsheets, and they'll bring them
- 40:37Speaker 1: in as exhibits, and they'll slam the door shut on you.
- 40:41Speaker 1: And that's exactly what we're seeing here once again. This
- 40:44Speaker 1: is the same pattern that was used to get the
- 40:47Speaker 1: conviction against Lori Vallow, and I have no doubt that
- 40:50Speaker 1: they're going to stick with this the whole way through
- 40:52Speaker 1: to get that conviction of Chad Daybell. 2.04 p.m. Wood
- 40:57Speaker 1: moves to admit a timeline Douglas made regarding Tylee's bank
- 41:00Speaker 1: account records. 2.05 p.m. Side note, we just received an
- 41:05Speaker 1: email regarding courtroom seating for the trial. Starting Monday, the
- 41:09Speaker 1: reservation system will no longer be required. Admission will be
- 41:13Speaker 1: first come, first serve for as long as the seats
- 41:15Speaker 1: remain available. There will be no priority seating and no
- 41:19Speaker 1: designated seating for the public or the media. And that's
- 41:23Speaker 1: because this is not as much of a circus as
- 41:25Speaker 1: they thought it was going to be. And I think
- 41:28Speaker 1: a lot of people understand that Chad Daybell's cooked here.
- 41:33Speaker 1: There is so much evidence against this man that I
- 41:35Speaker 1: have no idea how they plan to get him off.
- 41:39Speaker 1: And in fact, their best course here probably is just
- 41:43Speaker 1: to try and get him off of the death penalty itself.
- 41:46Speaker 1: Because you're not going to beat this case. You're not
- 41:49Speaker 1: going to beat these charges. So they should be focused
- 41:52Speaker 1: on making sure he doesn't meet the hangman's noose. 2.07 p.m.
- 41:58Speaker 1: Back to the testimony. Wood displays a timeline showing a
- 42:01Speaker 1: monthly number of transactions on Tylee's account. There is a
- 42:05Speaker 1: lot of activity early on, and then it drops down
- 42:07Speaker 1: to very little. 2.15 p.m. The next exhibit shows Tylee's
- 42:12Speaker 1: financial timeline. It begins with the death of Joseph Ryan.
- 42:16Speaker 1: That's when the Social Security started. Tylee received her GED
- 42:20Speaker 1: in October 2018. Lori then opened an account. 2.19 p.m.
- 42:27Speaker 1: Douglas continues to detail key events in Tylee's financial history.
- 42:32Speaker 1: Wood pauses and we will have an afternoon recess. Be
- 42:35Speaker 1: back in 15 to 20 minutes. 2.42 p.m. We are
- 42:40Speaker 1: back in the courtroom, Boyce is on the bench, and
- 42:42Speaker 1: the jurors are in their seats. 2.43 p.m. Douglas continues
- 42:47Speaker 1: to walk us through Tylee's financial timeline. It shows when
- 42:50Speaker 1: Lori started to receive Tylee's social security payments and moved
- 42:54Speaker 1: to Rexburg. Colby sent Tylee a message on September 8th
- 42:58Speaker 1: asking for money via Venmo. This was a regular occurrence,
- 43:02Speaker 1: Douglas says. Tylee responded back that she couldn't Venmo the
- 43:05Speaker 1: money because mom gets her money now. And I'm not
- 43:09Speaker 1: trying to pile on Colby here, but come on, buddy.
- 43:12Speaker 1: Your little sister's receiving dough and you're hitting her up
- 43:15Speaker 1: for not just a loan, but it's a regular occurrence.
- 43:20Speaker 1: Not a good look, my friend. Not a good look
- 43:22Speaker 1: at all. 2.45 p.m. On September 9th, 2019, Douglas discovered
- 43:29Speaker 1: an email from Lori to her accountant asking about a
- 43:31Speaker 1: tax refund she had not received. On September 10th, one
- 43:35Speaker 1: of Tylee's accounts was added as a source of income
- 43:38Speaker 1: account on Venmo. On September 20th, Tylee's JPMorgan Chase account
- 43:43Speaker 1: was completely closed and the remaining amount was withdrawn. On
- 43:47Speaker 1: September 22nd, there were texts associated between Tylee's phone and
- 43:51Speaker 1: Lori and Kobe. Lori texted Tylee's phone saying to send
- 43:55Speaker 1: Kobe money or Lori would tell Kobe she sent money
- 43:58Speaker 1: to Tylee and Tylee would send the money. 2.48 p.m.
- 44:03Speaker 1: On October 10th, Venmo provided IP data regarding the transfer
- 44:07Speaker 1: of the funds. Money was sent to Colby from Kansas City, Missouri.
- 44:11Speaker 1: The other dates on the timeline show when Tammy died
- 44:15Speaker 1: and when the bodies were found on Chad's property. 2.51 p.m.
- 44:20Speaker 1: Wood now moves to admit a timeline showing J.J. Vallow's
- 44:23Speaker 1: financial history. We see the timeline, and it has key
- 44:27Speaker 1: points such as Charles Vallow's death, text messages from Lori,
- 44:31Speaker 1: the listing of JJ's service dog for sale, and Lori
- 44:34Speaker 1: applying for the apartment in Rexburg. That's just horrible. Again,
- 44:40Speaker 1: your child dies and you're getting rid of their dog?
- 44:44Speaker 1: If my kid was gone or passed away, whatever, the
- 44:48Speaker 1: last thing I'd be doing is getting rid of their dog. Like,
- 44:50Speaker 1: how don't you look at that dog and think about
- 44:53Speaker 1: your kid? But when you're a disgusting skafooza who only
- 44:56Speaker 1: cares about money, well, you'll sell that dog too. If
- 44:59Speaker 1: you'll kill your kid's, You'll definitely sell their dog. 2.57 p.m.
- 45:04Speaker 1: Wood asked to admit an exhibit showing the Social Security
- 45:08Speaker 1: payment table of money going into Lori's BBVA account. Grand
- 45:12Speaker 1: total of $ 22, 545 went into the account after the deaths
- 45:17Speaker 1: of the children. 3.03 p.m. Wood moves to admit a
- 45:21Speaker 1: document Douglas has prepared called the Grand Theft Timeline. The
- 45:26Speaker 1: first item on the chart is Joe Ryan's death. Tylee
- 45:29Speaker 1: then starts receiving Social Security payments. The chart shows when
- 45:33Speaker 1: life insurance payments were paid out to Lori and when
- 45:36Speaker 1: she used her card to pay Valley of the Sun Mortuary.
- 45:40Speaker 1: So remember, conspiracy. That's why they're talking about all of this.
- 45:44Speaker 1: So what they're saying is, Lori and Chad, they were married.
- 45:48Speaker 1: They were in this conspiracy together. So this money might
- 45:51Speaker 1: have went to Lori, but it was being used to
- 45:53Speaker 1: further the conspiracy. And that's why it has relevance here
- 45:57Speaker 1: during the Chad Daybell trial. 3.05 p.m. The timeline also
- 46:02Speaker 1: shows Lori applying for the Rexburg apartment when Tylee's payments
- 46:06Speaker 1: were changed and Lori moved to Rexburg. It includes text
- 46:09Speaker 1: messages between Kobe and Tylee and when Tammy's life insurance
- 46:13Speaker 1: was increased. 3.08 p.m. As Douglas reads through the timeline,
- 46:18Speaker 1: Chad is scrolling through the computer in front of him
- 46:20Speaker 1: at the defense table. 3.11 p.m. Next up is a
- 46:24Speaker 1: timeline focusing on Chad and Tammy Daybell's financial history. It
- 46:28Speaker 1: also includes information regarding Lori and life insurance and travel information. 3.12 p.m.
- 46:36Speaker 1: Douglas explains dates when Chad purchased a prepaid phone, when
- 46:40Speaker 1: Alex used his credit card to purchase a flight for
- 46:42Speaker 1: Lori to Idaho Falls, a date when Lori purchased a
- 46:46Speaker 1: flight for Chad to Arizona, a time when Lori paid
- 46:49Speaker 1: for Chad's flight to Houston, and some other dates when
- 46:52Speaker 1: Chad bought prepaid phones. And again, they're trying to tie
- 46:55Speaker 1: their finances together. And they're doing a good job at
- 46:58Speaker 1: doing that. And this is the same way that they
- 47:01Speaker 1: sunk Lori Vallow. It's a master class in prosecution, really
- 47:06Speaker 1: is what it is. They're taking everything that they've already
- 47:09Speaker 1: known from the Lori Vallow trial, and they've wrapped it
- 47:13Speaker 1: all into the conspiracy charges that they've hit Daybell with, 3.15 p.m.
- 47:18Speaker 1: The timeline shows Tammy's life insurance was increased on September 8, 2019.
- 47:24Speaker 1: This was the same date as the last known sighting
- 47:27Speaker 1: of Tylee. Chad continued to purchase prepaid phones. On October 8, 2019,
- 47:33Speaker 1: Chad initiated a refinance with Wells Fargo. The timeline shows
- 47:39Speaker 1: he later canceled the refinance and filed a claim to
- 47:42Speaker 1: cash out Tammy's life insurance policy. 3.17 p.m. Chad received
- 47:48Speaker 1: his final check and resigned from the AVOW website on
- 47:52Speaker 1: November 1st. Chad got a percentage of the fees he
- 47:55Speaker 1: acquired on those who would read his column, the timeline details,
- 47:59Speaker 1: the trip to Knott's Berry Farm. He bought tickets for himself,
- 48:03Speaker 1: five kids and some in-laws and a ticket for Lori.
- 48:07Speaker 1: So you're going to go to Knott's Berry Farm and
- 48:09Speaker 1: no Tylee, no JJ. You would think the kids would
- 48:12Speaker 1: be the ones who want to go to the amusement park, right?
- 48:15Speaker 1: But no, instead him his Hills Have Eyes-type family, and
- 48:20Speaker 1: Scafusa Lori Vallow. 3.19 p.m. Chad transferred $ 1, 000 to three
- 48:25Speaker 1: of his kids on the date Rexburg police announced JJ
- 48:28Speaker 1: and Tylee were missing. On January 3, 2020, there were
- 48:33Speaker 1: two money transfers to Chad's middle son, one from his
- 48:36Speaker 1: business account, one from his personal. The total was $ 1, 500.
- 48:40Speaker 1: On March 6, 2020, Lori was extradited from Hawaii to Idaho.
- 48:45Speaker 1: Chad sold his two vehicles on March 8th to his
- 48:48Speaker 1: two daughters. They gave him $ 200 each for both vehicles.
- 48:52Speaker 1: On June 9th, 2020, they discovered Chad had transferred $ 8, 000
- 48:57Speaker 1: to his children. 3.22 p.m. Douglas says Daybell transferred $ 10, 000
- 49:03Speaker 1: from his Spring Creek book account to his personal account
- 49:06Speaker 1: on June 9th, 2020. That same date, he moved $ 8, 000
- 49:10Speaker 1: to Seth's account. He also sent $ 8, 000 to Joseph and
- 49:15Speaker 1: Emma Murray. 3.24 p.m. The same day, Chad also transferred $ 8, 000
- 49:20Speaker 1: to his son Garth from a savings account. 3.24 p.m.
- 49:25Speaker 1: The transfers were made around 9.50 a.m. that morning. Police
- 49:29Speaker 1: were on the property searching for the kids. So as
- 49:32Speaker 1: the kids were being searched for, this do-not-thinks-it's-a-good-idea to start
- 49:37Speaker 1: transferring all kinds of money. Everything he has done makes
- 49:41Speaker 1: him look guilty. And while I usually look for some
- 49:44Speaker 1: redeeming qualities in people, I find none with Chad Daybell
- 49:48Speaker 1: or Lori Vallow. 3.25pm. Wood has more exhibits for the witness,
- 49:53Speaker 1: but figures this is a good stopping point until tomorrow morning.
- 49:56Speaker 1: The court is now in recess. Alright, so there is
- 50:00Speaker 1: a recap of day number 5 from the Chad Daybell trial.
- 50:05Speaker 1: And honestly, it's going exactly how I expected it to go.
- 50:09Speaker 1: This guy has no chance in hell of beating these charges,
- 50:13Speaker 1: and that's because, in my opinion, he's guilty as guilty
- 50:17Speaker 1: could be. And I think that when all is said
- 50:19Speaker 1: and done, that's going to be the verdict that the
- 50:22Speaker 1: jury renders. Either way, we're going to be here covering
- 50:26Speaker 1: it every single day. And I appreciate all of you
- 50:29Speaker 1: who have come along for the ride as the state
- 50:31Speaker 1: of Idaho looks to drop the hammer on the Stunad
- 50:35Speaker 1: Chad Daybell. All of the information that goes with this
- 50:39Speaker 1: episode can be found in the description box.
