- 1:36And the granular today is Series 5, Show
- 1:3932, Episode Number 3, How to Make Every
- 1:42Opportunity Count.
- 1:44Yeah.
- 1:44Welcome, once again, everyone, to the ever-popular
- 1:47Inspirations for Your Life show.
- 1:51I am John C.
- 1:52Morley, serial entrepreneur, engineer, marketing specialist, video producer,
- 1:58podcast host, coach, keynote speaker, graduate student at
- 2:02Montclair State University, a passionate lifelong learner, and
- 2:07now so grateful to be a published author.
- 2:11Yes, guys, great to be with you.
- 2:12Many people spend their lives waiting for the
- 2:15perfect opportunity, believing success will arrive at just
- 2:18the right moment.
- 2:20The truth is opportunities rarely announce themselves.
- 2:24They often appear as difficult conversations, unexpected challenges,
- 2:30new relationships, or problems waiting to be solved.
- 2:34See, the people who achieve extraordinary things aren't
- 2:38necessarily luckier than anyone else.
- 2:41They are simply better prepared to recognize opportunities,
- 2:45the signals, and courageous enough to act upon
- 2:49them.
- 2:50Today, I'm going to explore 30 principles with
- 2:53you that will help you make every opportunity
- 2:55count and build a life that truly matters.
- 2:59Are you ready?
- 3:00I know I am.
- 3:01Number one, guys, opportunities surround you.
- 3:06Opportunities exist everywhere, but you'll only recognize them
- 3:10if you're paying attention for them.
- 3:13Keep your eyes open because your next breakthrough
- 3:16could come from the most unexpected place.
- 3:21Number two, stay prepared.
- 3:24Preparation creates confidence.
- 3:27The more you learn, practice, and improve, the
- 3:31more ready you'll be when opportunity arrives.
- 3:36Number three, recognize possibilities.
- 3:39Don't focus only on obstacles.
- 3:41Train yourself to see possibilities where others see
- 3:45limitations.
- 3:47Number four, think positively.
- 3:49A positive mindset doesn't ignore challenges.
- 3:53It believes that every challenge contains the potential
- 3:56for growth.
- 3:58That's a real key.
- 3:59Number five, take initiative.
- 4:02Don't wait for someone else to create opportunities
- 4:05for you.
- 4:06Take the first step and begin creating your
- 4:09own right now.
- 4:12Number six, act with confidence.
- 4:15Confidence doesn't require certainty.
- 4:18It comes from believing you can learn, adapt,
- 4:22and overcome whatever comes your way.
- 4:26Number seven, don't wait.
- 4:29There will never be a perfect moment.
- 4:31The best time to begin is often right
- 4:34now.
- 4:35Stay curious.
- 4:38Curiosity opens doors that routine often overlooks.
- 4:43Ask questions, explore new ideas, and remain eager
- 4:46to learn.
- 4:48So not only will you be a great
- 4:49student, but when you do that, you will
- 4:52actually become someone that other people want to
- 4:55interact and be part of.
- 4:56So I think that's a very, very key
- 4:58thing, guys.
- 4:59Number nine, learn quickly.
- 5:03Every experience offers a lesson.
- 5:06The faster you learn, the faster you grow.
- 5:11That's key, guys.
- 5:12Number 10, adapt often.
- 5:15Life changes constantly.
- 5:18Those who adapt continue moving forward while others
- 5:23remain stuck.
- 5:25Yeah, nobody wants to be stuck.
- 5:27Number 11, solve problems.
- 5:29Every problem you solve creates value for someone.
- 5:33People who solve meaningful problems naturally create meaningful
- 5:38opportunities.
- 5:41Build momentum in everything you do.
- 5:43Small actions lead to bigger opportunities.
- 5:47Keep taking consistent steps.
- 5:49This is key, guys.
- 5:50Keep taking those consistent steps forward until progress
- 5:54becomes momentum.
- 5:56It's like when you start the engine, you
- 5:58might not be able to start it right
- 5:59away.
- 5:59You do a couple times, and then once
- 6:01it turns over, it keeps running.
- 6:03But once it runs, it stays running.
- 6:05Number 13, stay focused.
- 6:07Distractions steal opportunities.
- 6:10Keep your attention on your goals and avoid
- 6:13wasting energy on things that don't move you
- 6:16forward.
- 6:18Number 14, keep improving.
- 6:21Never stop developing your skills.
- 6:24Your knowledge and your character are key.
- 6:27Continuous improvement prepares you for greater opportunities.
- 6:32Number 15, believe in possibility.
- 6:36The greatest accomplishments often begin with someone believing
- 6:40that something difficult is still possible.
- 6:44I think a lot of people, when they
- 6:45hear that, and they hear from other people
- 6:48that you can't do something, they're like, okay,
- 6:51I guess I can't do it.
- 6:53And a lot of people don't share that
- 6:55they can do something.
- 6:56They just share that they can't do something.
- 6:58I think that's a big – I think
- 7:02that's something that a lot of people miss.
- 7:03They miss that whole concept that they are
- 7:06bigger than the problem.
- 7:08You know, all the storms you have, okay,
- 7:12you'll weather any of them, okay?
- 7:16But a tough person is around after the
- 7:18storm.
- 7:18So storms come and go.
- 7:20But your resilience, your attitude keeps you to
- 7:24last through any storm.
- 7:26Number 16, stay disciplined.
- 7:30Opportunities don't just arrive when it's convenient.
- 7:34Discipline keeps you prepared even when you don't
- 7:37immediately see results.
- 7:39See, the habits you build today determine whether
- 7:44you'll be ready when tomorrow's opportunities appear.
- 7:48Will you be ready or you'll be saying,
- 7:51oh, I'm not ready for that opportunity?
- 7:53Can you come back tomorrow?
- 7:54Can you come back next week?
- 7:55And I tell people this is a pretty
- 7:56interesting thing, and that is one thing.
- 8:02What I want to tell you is that
- 8:04when you think about these opportunities, right, you
- 8:06think about how they're going forward.
- 8:08A lot of people don't understand how our
- 8:14thoughts make these opportunities become easier.
- 8:20Number 17, guys, turn setbacks into lessons.
- 8:23Not every opportunity works out the way you
- 8:27planned.
- 8:28And that's okay.
- 8:31Every disappointment teaches something valuable.
- 8:35Instead of asking, why did this happen to
- 8:37me?
- 8:38Ask, what can I learn from this?
- 8:42Different way to pose it, right?
- 8:45Lessons gained through experience often become your greatest
- 8:50advantage.
- 8:52Your greatest advantage.
- 8:54Number 18, guys, number 18, keep moving, keep
- 8:58moving.
- 9:00That's important.
- 9:02Momentum is created by action, not by waiting,
- 9:06not by procrastinating, not by stalling.
- 9:09So progress feels slow.
- 9:11Every step forward is building confidence, right?
- 9:16Experience and resilience are your keys.
- 9:19Don't allow the temporary obstacles or, you know,
- 9:23these barriers that get in your way to
- 9:25stop permanent progress.
- 9:28Number 19, invest wisely.
- 9:33Your time, energy, and attention are valuable resources.
- 9:39Invest them in people, skills, and opportunities that
- 9:43align with your long-term goals, instead of
- 9:47wasting them on distractions that provide little lasting
- 9:50value, guys.
- 9:52Yeah.
- 9:53Number 20, build confidence.
- 9:56Confidence grows through action.
- 10:00Every challenge you accept, every problem you solve,
- 10:06and every opportunity you pursue strengthens your belief
- 10:09in yourself.
- 10:12So when we overcome, let's say, a challenge,
- 10:17we build that confidence.
- 10:25And that confidence helps us to grow even
- 10:28more.
- 10:29So it builds more confidence, and the energy
- 10:33is positively contagious.
- 10:36Other people want to be part of your
- 10:38circle or your, let's say, two to five
- 10:42feet range so they can gain that.
- 10:44It's earned, ladies and gentlemen, through experience, not
- 10:49osmosis, all right?
- 10:51Number 21, think creatively.
- 10:54Sometimes the greatest opportunities appear when you stop
- 11:00looking for ordinary solutions.
- 11:03I want you to challenge yourself to think
- 11:05differently.
- 11:06Starting today, ask better questions and consider possibilities
- 11:10that others may have overlooked.
- 11:13So when we ask better questions, we get
- 11:16better answers.
- 11:17I've told people this with technology.
- 11:19If you put in better input, you get
- 11:22better output out.
- 11:26We just have to think about what that
- 11:28means.
- 11:29That's a whole key, guys.
- 11:31That's a key.
- 11:32Number 22, stay optimistic, okay?
- 11:38Optimism allows you to see potential where others
- 11:42see problems.
- 11:43A positive outlook doesn't guarantee success, but it
- 11:47helps you recognize opportunities that negativity often hides.
- 11:52So it's like what we're looking for.
- 11:54And if we're looking for something and we
- 11:55miss it, it's like, oh my gosh, what
- 11:57am I supposed to do?
- 11:58And then you're like, I don't know.
- 12:01So you get taken off by that.
- 12:03And that causes you to get to a
- 12:07whole new level.
- 12:08And that level, I think, will not only
- 12:11build your confidence, but it will cause you
- 12:15to learn things that you didn't even know
- 12:18were possible.
- 12:20I think that's a real important thing.
- 12:23So we want to have positivity so we
- 12:26don't have any negativity because negativity shields us
- 12:30from the good that we have to be
- 12:32able to see and opportunities that are there
- 12:34for us.
- 12:35Number 23, guys, keep growing.
- 12:40Growth should never, ever stop.
- 12:43Every book you read, every conversation you have,
- 12:47and every skill you develop, and every lesson
- 12:49you learn prepares you for greater opportunities ahead.
- 12:54Number 24, every opportunity teaches.
- 12:59I don't care what it is.
- 13:00You may not like the opportunity, but it's
- 13:03still going to teach you.
- 13:04And I think that's a very important thing
- 13:07for us to actually embrace.
- 13:10Very important.
- 13:12Every opportunity teaches.
- 13:14Whether an opportunity leads to success or disappointment,
- 13:18it always leaves you with greater knowledge to
- 13:22do something again or to stay clear of
- 13:25something.
- 13:25Every experience expands your perspective and prepares you
- 13:30for the next challenge.
- 13:34Because if you try to just skip the
- 13:37steps, right, you know how we used to
- 13:38do like paint by number, you connect the
- 13:40dots, you have to go in the order
- 13:42of the numbers or the letters.
- 13:44If you go out of order, what happens?
- 13:47It doesn't look like much.
- 13:49This is why learning how to count when
- 13:52you're young was very important, learning the alphabet
- 13:54was important.
- 13:54And when you follow the letters, you're able
- 13:58to create something.
- 13:58Somebody that would say, hey, now follow the
- 14:01numbers backwards or follow the numbers by skipping
- 14:05five to get something.
- 14:07These are all different things you can do.
- 14:10And when we apply this knowledge, it's pretty
- 14:14amazing what we can accomplish, guys.
- 14:17Really, really amazing.
- 14:19Number 25, I want you to stay intentional.
- 14:23I know I say this word every day,
- 14:26but your life needs to consist with intentional
- 14:28pieces.
- 14:29If it doesn't, it's like you're just going
- 14:31through the motions.
- 14:33So stay intentional.
- 14:35Don't drift through life hoping something good will
- 14:40happen.
- 14:41It's nice to have those thoughts, but you
- 14:43need to take the action from your inspired
- 14:46thoughts.
- 14:46Live with purpose.
- 14:48Make decisions that align with your values, your
- 14:52goals, and the future you're working to create.
- 14:59I'm not saying you're going to know exactly
- 15:02what that future is or where you're going
- 15:04to turn, but what I'm telling you is
- 15:05you're going to make that future.
- 15:08You're going to make it, okay?
- 15:10But you've got to believe in yourself, and
- 15:12you've got to take those steps.
- 15:14And those steps, guys, might not be like
- 15:18walking on sand.
- 15:21They might be like walking in almost hardened
- 15:24concrete, feeling like drudgery.
- 15:27But you can get through it.
- 15:28Every step makes you stronger, builds the confidence,
- 15:33builds your resilience, okay?
- 15:35Number 26, build experience.
- 15:42Experience is one of life's greatest teachers.
- 15:45Every project, every conversation, every success, and every
- 15:51setback adds another layer of wisdom that no
- 15:57classroom can fully provide.
- 16:01Let me see if that explains it.
- 16:01So I've gone to Europe many times, and
- 16:04I'll go back again, but I was with
- 16:06a group called American Leadership Study Groups.
- 16:08I don't think ALSG, I don't think they're
- 16:10even in business anymore.
- 16:12Yeah, it was American.
- 16:14I don't think they're still American Leadership Study
- 16:17Group.
- 16:18I don't think they're still around anymore.
- 16:23So according to this, they're a domestic for
- 16:30-profit corporation, and they were filed in 1967,
- 16:33and they're currently listed as, right now, they
- 16:36dissolved.
- 16:37They were in Massachusetts, so they're not around
- 16:40anymore.
- 16:42But the whole thing with them was that
- 16:45it wasn't just about taking a trip.
- 16:47It was about gaining knowledge.
- 16:48Somebody said to me, John, you could take
- 16:51French.
- 16:51You could take Italian.
- 16:52You could take all these classes.
- 16:54But what you're going to learn by going
- 16:57to that country for just a month will
- 17:02probably be more than you learn in a
- 17:04few years in school.
- 17:09That's powerful, guys.
- 17:11That's powerful.
- 17:14So that means that we learn by, what
- 17:17am I going to say, guys?
- 17:18We learn by immersion.
- 17:19We learn by immersion.
- 17:23That's a very profound thing, that we can
- 17:27learn by immersion.
- 17:29That's how we learned the English language, in
- 17:31case you didn't know that.
- 17:33That's exactly how we learned the English language.
- 17:35You learned it by immersion.
- 17:38And when you're part of something, it changes
- 17:42you.
- 17:43And it gets you to think differently, just
- 17:46like your goals.
- 17:48If you want a goal to happen, embrace
- 17:50the goal.
- 17:50Create things that would be as if the
- 17:52goal happened.
- 17:55And I think that's hard for a lot
- 17:56of people to understand.
- 17:59It's hard.
- 18:00I get it.
- 18:01But if you do it day in and
- 18:03day out and you keep showing up, you're
- 18:06going to be amazing.
- 18:08So building experience is not the easiest thing.
- 18:11But when we build experience, we're able to
- 18:14transform our lives a lot faster than if
- 18:19we didn't.
- 18:24Immersing yourself in the culture, being with somebody,
- 18:28hearing how they talk, and being right in
- 18:31the thick of it.
- 18:32I mean, that's pretty amazing.
- 18:35I know I went there with – Google
- 18:37wasn't that popular back then for translating, so
- 18:40I had a little translator.
- 18:41I had a little book, actually.
- 18:42It was a translating book.
- 18:43And I would look up certain words of
- 18:44people, like, oh, he's trying to learn a
- 18:46language.
- 18:46And they were kind.
- 18:49Most places were very kind when they knew
- 18:51you were trying to speak the language.
- 18:53Number 27, guys, this is not easy.
- 18:56Trust yourself.
- 18:56I know everybody around you is going to
- 18:58say no, but you've got to believe and
- 19:00trust yourself.
- 19:00So believe in your current ability.
- 19:02Even if it's not what you want, so
- 19:05you can adapt, solve problems, and keep learning,
- 19:08guys.
- 19:09You don't need to know everything before taking
- 19:13the next step.
- 19:15You'll be able to say, well, I don't
- 19:16know what I've got to do.
- 19:18You don't need to know everything.
- 19:20You need to know you want to take
- 19:21the next step.
- 19:22Maybe you know a few things, and that's
- 19:23really all you need to know is you
- 19:27can learn that next step.
- 19:35That's very important, guys.
- 19:38Very important.
- 19:40Very, very important to understand that concept.
- 19:46The concept that it's okay not to know
- 19:49everything.
- 19:50It's okay to keep learning.
- 19:52It's okay to be wrong sometimes.
- 19:56You're going to learn from that mistake.
- 19:58You're probably not going to do that again.
- 20:02You're not going to do that again.
- 20:03But I know trusting in ourself is hard
- 20:07when we just learn something, like a new
- 20:12skill.
- 20:14Trust that you'll continue growing along the way,
- 20:19learning and changing and morphing.
- 20:22Nothing wrong with that.
- 20:23That's pure success.
- 20:26Number 28, success, ladies and gentlemen, if you
- 20:29have not guessed it by now, does not
- 20:32favor people sitting on the couch.
- 20:33Does not favor procrastination.
- 20:35Does not favor, you know, putting it off.
- 20:39Success favors one thing, consistent, constructive action.
- 20:46Ideas have value.
- 20:47They do.
- 20:48But action creates results.
- 20:50The people who consistently move forward are often
- 20:54the ones willing to act while others continue
- 20:57waiting for perfect conditions.
- 20:59If you want to keep waiting for those
- 21:01perfect conditions, keep waiting.
- 21:03And you're like, when am I going to
- 21:04get my chance?
- 21:06Well, probably not for a while because there's
- 21:09never going to be a perfect time, a
- 21:11perfect moment, a perfect day, a perfect experience.
- 21:17It's not going to be there.
- 21:19You need to adapt to what's there, learn
- 21:22and grow into it.
- 21:24And the more you do that, the more
- 21:26resilient you become.
- 21:27The more resilient you become.
- 21:29Number 29, guys, every chance matters.
- 21:33I don't care if it's a big chance
- 21:34or a small chance.
- 21:35Every chance matters.
- 21:37Don't dismiss an opportunity because it seems small.
- 21:43Many of life's biggest breakthroughs begin with one
- 21:49conversation, one meeting, one introduction, or just one
- 21:56simple decision to say the word yes.
- 22:01A lot of people I know are afraid
- 22:04to say the word yes.
- 22:07They feel it's going to be like a
- 22:08doomsday.
- 22:08It's not.
- 22:10But you definitely need to embrace what that
- 22:14is.
- 22:16And the more you embrace it, the more
- 22:18that you can change.
- 22:25That's very important, very, very important to understand.
- 22:33But you guys can do this.
- 22:34You absolutely can do this.
- 22:36Number 30, opportunity rewards preparation.
- 22:42Luck may open a door.
- 22:44Great.
- 22:45But preparation determines whether you're ready to walk
- 22:49through it.
- 22:50Now, I'm going to tell you something else.
- 22:52People say, oh, you know, John, I don't
- 22:54want to go in the door yet.
- 22:54I'm not ready.
- 22:55The door's open right now.
- 22:57Yeah, I'll get it later.
- 22:58Now, that door may come around and you
- 23:00may see it.
- 23:02But it's got to be locked.
- 23:05Or you'll never see the door again.
- 23:07Continue learning, improving, and preparing because the opportunities
- 23:13you're hoping for may arrive sooner than you
- 23:17expect.
- 23:20That's a mouthful, guys.
- 23:22A real mouthful.
- 23:23I want to close this show today.
- 23:26Making every opportunity count isn't about saying yes
- 23:29to everything.
- 23:30You don't need to be a yes man
- 23:31or a yes lady.
- 23:32It's about becoming the kind of intentional person
- 23:37who is prepared and courageous enough to recognize
- 23:42opportunities when they appear.
- 23:44The more you grow, learn, and take action,
- 23:48the more opportunities you'll begin to see.
- 23:51Remember, opportunity doesn't usually arrive wearing a name
- 23:55tag or holding a megaphone saying, hey, I'm
- 23:58over here.
- 23:58It often looks like hard work, a difficult
- 24:03challenge, an unexpected conversation, or a problem waiting
- 24:07for someone to solve.
- 24:10Stay curious.
- 24:12Stay disciplined.
- 24:13Keep improving.
- 24:14And never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever stop
- 24:19believing that your next opportunity could change your
- 24:24entire life.
- 24:25I thank you so much from the bottom
- 24:28of my heart for choosing to join me
- 24:30today for another amazing episode of the ever
- 24:33-popular Inspirations for Your Life show.
- 24:36I am John C.
- 24:37Morley, serial entrepreneur, engineer, marketing specialist, video producer,
- 24:44podcast host, coach, keynote speaker, graduate student at
- 24:49Montclair State University, passionate lifelong learner.
- 24:53And so grateful, ladies and gentlemen, now to
- 24:56be a published author.
- 24:58The words I say to you next are
- 25:00these.
- 25:01Until next time, remember that extraordinary lives aren't
- 25:07built by waiting for opportunity.
- 25:09They're not.
- 25:10If you think you're going to get your
- 25:13ticket or your golden ticket because you got
- 25:16lucky, like Willy Wonka, you know, and how
- 25:20that guy advertised and how the kid actually
- 25:24bought the candy bar and they didn't win.
- 25:28And then the other candy bar, they won.
- 25:30And the Grandpa Joe and the kid, they
- 25:33went off.
- 25:34And then he said it was all a
- 25:37waste of time.
- 25:40Until he had to test Charlie Slugworth, who
- 25:47was, he thought, the bad guy.
- 25:50And he took the gobstopper, which was what
- 25:53Slugworth wanted, and he put it on the
- 25:56desk.
- 25:57And as soon as that happened, he changed
- 26:00his whole, like, modus.
- 26:02He was like, now he trusts that person.
- 26:04And now they could move into this whole
- 26:06factory together.
- 26:07That was an amazing change of life.
- 26:10See, they're built by recognizing them and preparing
- 26:16for them and taking action when they arrive.
- 26:20Too many people think once they arrive, okay,
- 26:22I'm done.
- 26:23I don't need to learn anymore.
- 26:24I know so much.
- 26:26Those that do that are going to be
- 26:28destined to be sorry.
- 26:32Because things morph.
- 26:33Things change.
- 26:36I ask you, ladies and gentlemen, please keep
- 26:40growing.
- 26:42Please keep believing.
- 26:44And please keep building a life that truly
- 26:48matters, not only to you, but to other
- 26:51people.
- 26:52And you might do all these things I
- 26:53said today, and you'll be like, John, it
- 26:56didn't work.
- 26:57Well, if you ever played basketball or any
- 27:01other sport, do you become an expert the
- 27:04day out of the gate?
- 27:06Or maybe you're riding a horse or you're
- 27:07fishing or whatever you're doing.
- 27:09Do you become an expert as soon as
- 27:11you sign up?
- 27:13No.
- 27:16You work at something.
- 27:18It doesn't work.
- 27:19You retool.
- 27:21I remember taking my very first computer science
- 27:24course.
- 27:25I learned basic probably before I was even
- 27:28in high school.
- 27:29It was actually at an IBM summer computer
- 27:31camp.
- 27:32And it was amazing.
- 27:34Coding and figuring out what worked and what
- 27:36didn't work.
- 27:36It was absolutely amazing.
- 27:40And getting to think and create something before
- 27:44I was even in high school.
- 27:47That was powerful, guys.
- 27:49I remember my Atari 800 or 1200 when
- 27:54I actually wrote my first program.
- 27:56Have yourself a great rest of your day
- 27:57or evening, and do check out BelieveMeAchieve.com.
- 28:00And let's make every opportunity count.
- 28:43That's right.
- 28:44Right, yeah, yeah.
- 28:45Oh, that's nice you won.
- 28:47You got to pick the queen of something.
