- 0:01Speaker 1: Some of the content of Patriots Unfiltered may not be

- 0:09Speaker 2: The World's a Vegeon podcast. Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. Let's
- 0:20Speaker 2: have Evan call in from the practice field and we'll
- 0:22Speaker 2: get a live report from the field onto the show.
- 0:25Speaker 2: But we'll need a theme song for that. I was
- 0:27Speaker 2: just Kevan bro I was calling in.
- 0:30Speaker 3: Evan's got a song. We don't need to do that.
- 0:31Speaker 3: I'm just saying, I'm throwing it out there. Jill do
- 0:33Speaker 3: seven and TIMEA and now it's coming back from the
- 0:36Speaker 3: locker room. What happened in the locker room?
- 0:37Speaker 4: Now?
- 0:38Speaker 2: Have you guys come out with your roster projections or
- 0:40Speaker 2: anything like that?
- 0:42Speaker 3: I mean we did, Evan did one a while ago.
- 0:43Speaker 5: Do you think we should do another one?
- 0:45Speaker 2: Probably?
- 0:46Speaker 5: Okay?
- 0:46Speaker 2: Why, here's where Evan's wrong.
- 0:50Speaker 5: That's a colleague on colleague crime. That's all right.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Last year they do a sneak and I'd be so mad.
- 0:55Speaker 2: You know, you got second and one.
- 0:56Speaker 5: It's been mad for about fifteen years.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Has anyone had a floater in their eyes? Mine looks
- 1:00Speaker 2: like Andy right now. It's like looking at me. It's
- 1:02Speaker 2: not on your IYO, it's in your eye of floating.
- 1:05Speaker 2: You can't flush them out.
- 1:06Speaker 3: When I had floaters as a kid, my mom always
- 1:08Speaker 3: told me to flush him that.
- 1:09Speaker 2: That was no, no, that's not a floater. I thought.
- 1:12Speaker 5: This is Patriots Unfiltered, presented by Toyota's official website for
- 1:17Speaker 5: deals by a Toyota dot com.
- 1:21Speaker 2: All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Tuesday here
- 1:25Speaker 2: at Jillette Stadium. It's cut down day around the NFL.
- 1:29Speaker 2: The Patriots have already started that process, and we're going
- 1:32Speaker 2: to get into that. They played their last preseason game
- 1:35Speaker 2: against the Commanders, in which I think young Drake May
- 1:39Speaker 2: had a pretty good showing for himself, the best yet
- 1:41Speaker 2: so far, showing off what he possibly could do. And
- 1:45Speaker 2: of course the debate heats up of whether or not
- 1:48Speaker 2: he should start right off the bat, and of course
- 1:51Speaker 2: we'll get into all of that. It's Deuce, it's Evan,
- 1:53Speaker 2: it's Paul, it's myself, it's Matt and the booth, and
- 1:56Speaker 2: we're here for the next two hours talking about Patriots.
- 2:00Speaker 2: And there's a lot to talk about. Because I can't wait.
- 2:04Speaker 2: The Cincinnati Bengals are around the corner a week from
- 2:07Speaker 2: this Sunday coming up, and.
- 2:11Speaker 6: He's like to beat, He's like giddy, yeah, excited we
- 2:15Speaker 6: were done with all that preseason.
- 2:17Speaker 3: I mean, I love we talked about that. I agree,
- 2:21Speaker 3: a little bit of a chance to catch your breath
- 2:23Speaker 3: here for a couple of days. I mean, there's a
- 2:24Speaker 3: lot going on today.
- 2:25Speaker 2: But everything is now looking forward to the regular season. Yeah,
- 2:29Speaker 2: you know, well we.
- 2:30Speaker 3: Look a little back at training camp maybe and things
- 2:33Speaker 3: that have come together, and.
- 2:35Speaker 2: Fred, Fred, do that on your own. But most importantly,
- 2:39Speaker 2: let's talk about the news of the day, which is
- 2:42Speaker 2: cut down day. Patriots have already cut about seventeen guys,
- 2:46Speaker 2: well the unofficial by the way, yeah, okay, I should have.
- 2:49Speaker 3: You know some of them have been fourteen of them.
- 2:53Speaker 7: Oh yeah, correct, the ones we did. We did release
- 2:58Speaker 7: fourteen guys yesterday, so.
- 3:00Speaker 8: Reportedly about at about twenty five guys that have been reportedly.
- 3:04Speaker 2: Of course, the big news reportedly, I think it's Tom
- 3:07Speaker 2: Pelisaro came out with the report with zappy Bailey, zappy yeah,
- 3:12Speaker 2: outright cut which I think most fans what was the
- 3:16Speaker 2: option I think most well, you know a lot of
- 3:19Speaker 2: fans were hoping you could pull off a six or
- 3:21Speaker 2: seventh round trade for him for a team that needs
- 3:23Speaker 2: a backup. But and I'm sure the Patriots tried.
- 3:26Speaker 9: Well, I still could.
- 3:27Speaker 8: I mean, that's one thing that does happen sometimes on
- 3:29Speaker 8: cutdown days. You put it out there, this guy is
- 3:32Speaker 8: gonna get waved and then to jump everybody on the
- 3:35Speaker 8: or in the pecking order, somebody might throw a conditional
- 3:38Speaker 8: sixth or seventh round pick.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Point because again these aren't official. Uh, it could be
- 3:43Speaker 2: just to see what the market is.
- 3:44Speaker 7: So how about the fourteen that the Patriots did make official? Mic,
- 3:48Speaker 7: you have that list, like from oh the ones yesterday
- 3:50Speaker 7: on from yesterday.
- 3:52Speaker 3: You had to throw me a curveball.
- 3:53Speaker 5: I just have them all, So let's we'll skip those.
- 3:57Speaker 5: Evan's going to look up the release.
- 3:59Speaker 7: Why don't you start with some of the names that
- 4:01Speaker 7: we've heard today from various sources.
- 4:03Speaker 3: Well, just starting with some of the big names. I mean,
- 4:05Speaker 3: Zappi was a big one. Kevin Harris was kind of
- 4:07Speaker 3: an interesting name, along with Jashn Fenwick who was on
- 4:10Speaker 3: the official list yesterday, and Terrell Jennings is another unofficial.
- 4:14Speaker 2: I think it's Harris is an official, right, No, if
- 4:18Speaker 2: he does get cut that to me, that's a mild surprise. Cut.
- 4:21Speaker 8: I would agree, yeah, mild surprise, yep, I would agree, yeah, yeah.
- 4:26Speaker 5: I had him in, but.
- 4:28Speaker 7: Not biased on anything you did, just because I figured
- 4:31Speaker 7: they have to have some running backs on the team,
- 4:32Speaker 7: because you guys tell me that that's important. I do, no,
- 4:36Speaker 7: I agree, like for like four running backs to me
- 4:38Speaker 7: would seem to be the minimum. Yes, if you want
- 4:41Speaker 7: to be a running team, which they keep telling me
- 4:44Speaker 7: ye so, And even when either he's coming back or
- 4:47Speaker 7: they're going to sign.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Even when they were less a running team, they've kept five.
- 4:51Speaker 8: Yeah, the Cleveland kept three last year, and so that
- 4:55Speaker 8: was the only reason why I was considering only keeping three,
- 4:58Speaker 8: because that seems to be a VP's mo o of
- 5:01Speaker 8: how many he needs to start the season. But I
- 5:03Speaker 8: thought Kevin Harris had an okay camp. I mean, I'm
- 5:06Speaker 8: not saying that he's Emman Smith, but like I, I
- 5:08Speaker 8: feel like he had a decent camp. Looked a little
- 5:11Speaker 8: bit more comfortable, more decisive this year with his with
- 5:14Speaker 8: his reads.
- 5:15Speaker 9: But I was mildly surprised, like this.
- 5:18Speaker 5: Touchdown of the night we talked about in the postgame show, I.
- 5:20Speaker 2: Was a little burst, a little burst.
- 5:23Speaker 3: I think he got a lot of chances this summer.
- 5:25Speaker 3: You know, it's just he seemed like he was always
- 5:27Speaker 3: out there.
- 5:27Speaker 2: And they cut Bishop Fenwick.
- 5:29Speaker 3: This, yeah to Shaun Fenwick, who was in and out.
- 5:31Speaker 3: Uh yeah, So Sam Roberts, Tucker Addington among those bang out.
- 5:39Speaker 8: So this is fourteen names. Tucker Addington, Kawan Baker, William
- 5:43Speaker 8: Bradley King, Josiah Brunton, Steel Chambers, Deshaun Fenwick, is Easy, Hearn, Zuri, Henry,
- 5:48Speaker 8: Christian McCarroll, Michael Petaway, Sam Roberts, Charles Turner, Mikey Victor,
- 5:52Speaker 8: Jacob Warren.
- 5:53Speaker 9: Yep, that was the official.
- 5:56Speaker 7: So those those fourteen were made official yet yesterday with
- 6:00Speaker 7: a release by the Patriots that they.
- 6:03Speaker 2: Really the only name there is Sam Roberts.
- 6:05Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, yeah, somebody's been around a little bit
- 6:08Speaker 3: of draft pick, late round draft pick.
- 6:10Speaker 5: So the one guy on that list that I was
- 6:13Speaker 5: I wouldn't put in surprise, but a guy that I
- 6:15Speaker 5: thought was pretty active all summer and a number of
- 6:18Speaker 5: different venues was William Bradley King.
- 6:20Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 6:21Speaker 7: I thought he showed some versatility. You know, maybe he's
- 6:24Speaker 7: a practice squad candidate.
- 6:26Speaker 5: I don't know that.
- 6:26Speaker 7: The date early kind of tells me maybe not, but yeah,
- 6:29Speaker 7: I don't know. I thought he kind of flashed for
- 6:31Speaker 7: a guy I knew nothing about. I thought he flashed
- 6:34Speaker 7: a little bit during the summer.
- 6:35Speaker 8: Yeah, he had one rush in the game on Sunday
- 6:37Speaker 8: night on third down, I said, t and stunt. He
- 6:40Speaker 8: came wrapped around, like look look the part there, and
- 6:43Speaker 8: then he had about three or four blown edges and
- 6:45Speaker 8: I was like, at first I wrote down, like, oh, okay,
- 6:47Speaker 8: William Bradley King check checking some boxes here.
- 6:50Speaker 3: And then as.
- 6:53Speaker 9: The game war on.
- 6:54Speaker 8: The the ability to set the edge really started to
- 6:58Speaker 8: be an issue for him.
- 7:00Speaker 2: So now do you want to get into the just reports.
- 7:02Speaker 3: Yeah, some of some of the reports I think that
- 7:04Speaker 3: are that are interesting were Mitchell Wilcox, who was really
- 7:08Speaker 3: really involved. I mean they had a bunch of injuries. Yeah,
- 7:10Speaker 3: then they then he got injured too, and that kind
- 7:12Speaker 3: of I think really hurt his chances probably, but could
- 7:15Speaker 3: sign for Jahem Bell, who rookie, you know, seventh round pick.
- 7:18Speaker 3: I think has showed some some speed.
- 7:19Speaker 5: I mean, I know Matt Smith very high on Jahem,
- 7:22Speaker 5: be very high on him, very high.
- 7:23Speaker 3: On he can move. I'm intrigued by him. I mean
- 7:26Speaker 3: I kind of like what it signals just that, and
- 7:28Speaker 3: of course think these guys could be back, but who
- 7:31Speaker 3: knows what what how injured Mitchell Wilcox was our guy.
- 7:34Speaker 3: Terrell Jennings another report which hopefully is a practice squad guy.
- 7:38Speaker 3: Thought he was somebody who just didn't get a lot
- 7:40Speaker 3: of chances, I mean limited. I think he did lead
- 7:42Speaker 3: the team in rushing for whatever that means, uh in preseason.
- 7:45Speaker 3: Josh Bledsoe another reported guy who has been around a
- 7:49Speaker 3: little bit, and you know one of their safeties that
- 7:51Speaker 3: that they always seem to pick up every season. So
- 7:55Speaker 3: and then there was one more I was gonna I
- 7:57Speaker 3: was gonna mention Zappi of course, Yeah, he's an Arman
- 8:00Speaker 3: Watts too, just another guy that you thought when they
- 8:03Speaker 3: brought him in you lost Lawrence guy when Barmore went down.
- 8:07Speaker 3: Could he maybe be an interior rusher guy. He didn't
- 8:09Speaker 3: really do anything all summer. I didn't really ever see
- 8:11Speaker 3: him pop at all once, ye, jeremiahpoint.
- 8:15Speaker 2: No, I wasn't on the postgame show, as you.
- 8:18Speaker 5: Know, because that was Yes, we had a strong show.
- 8:22Speaker 5: Did Ellis make your Christian Ellis?
- 8:26Speaker 3: Did he make your list of a coin flip on
- 8:28Speaker 3: that one?
- 8:29Speaker 5: On the Goods.
- 8:30Speaker 7: The Goods he was I think he did because I
- 8:33Speaker 7: talked about it, because we talked about him and Bradley
- 8:35Speaker 7: King as being kind of active in the game.
- 8:37Speaker 2: Now he went off with a head injury, right and
- 8:40Speaker 2: he did not return.
- 8:41Speaker 5: I think he got concussed on that play.
- 8:43Speaker 2: So could that help him actually stay on the team.
- 8:45Speaker 5: I think he's probably going to be on the team again.
- 8:47Speaker 5: It was last year.
- 8:48Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean it just I know that there's like
- 8:51Speaker 7: this notion that there won't be any special teams guys.
- 8:53Speaker 7: There will be special teams guys because you need four guys,
- 8:57Speaker 7: Like there's still special teams to worry about. Maybe they
- 9:00Speaker 7: won't have as many guys that aren't involved. But Brandon's
- 9:03Speaker 7: school are going to be on the team and he
- 9:06Speaker 7: won't be the only one. Yeah, So yeah, I think
- 9:09Speaker 7: christianelle Is could stay. I think Mike did we have
- 9:11Speaker 7: him on the final one.
- 9:12Speaker 3: I think we went with Joel's Harris on that one.
- 9:14Speaker 7: Paul kind of a point flipped there and just like
- 9:17Speaker 7: we were listening to the open Evan, you know, full disclosure,
- 9:20Speaker 7: I did not say I'm just going to do everything
- 9:23Speaker 7: the opposite of that. First of all, I would have
- 9:26Speaker 7: had to have looked at it to be able to
- 9:28Speaker 7: ignore it, like I didn't. People, I didn't say, well,
- 9:32Speaker 7: it's just yeah, like everything I hate about content.
- 9:36Speaker 2: But whatever the content I hate, I hate, I hate
- 9:41Speaker 2: hate content I hate.
- 9:42Speaker 7: I said, it's everything I hate about content. I didn't
- 9:45Speaker 7: say I hate content.
- 9:46Speaker 3: Well, Evan and I were talking about it's kind of
- 9:48Speaker 3: like mock drafts, and like, I'm a mock draft guy,
- 9:50Speaker 3: but I can't bring myself on the fifteen.
- 9:52Speaker 8: Ten roster projections are the mock drafts of training camp.
- 9:55Speaker 8: There's nothing that clicks more than an fifty three yeard.
- 9:58Speaker 5: And that was my point, not I hate content.
- 10:01Speaker 2: By the way, and now you get into fantasy football.
- 10:03Speaker 5: Thanks to your your finger wagging of me. I got
- 10:08Speaker 5: guilted into doing it last Friday while I was on
- 10:10Speaker 5: the radio, and the hardest part was coming up with
- 10:13Speaker 5: fifty three players. I only had fifty one, I said, Melan,
- 10:17Speaker 5: though I did, and I only forgot one guy. Yeah,
- 10:20Speaker 5: oh Shane Zimminis.
- 10:21Speaker 2: I like it.
- 10:22Speaker 5: It was the only guy that I forgotten.
- 10:24Speaker 7: And I texted Mike and I said, listen, I only
- 10:27Speaker 7: have fifty one guys.
- 10:28Speaker 5: I know this.
- 10:28Speaker 7: Somebody obvious that I'm missing, And evidently there wasn't anybody
- 10:31Speaker 7: obvious that I was missing. But he was the one
- 10:34Speaker 7: guy that I said, you know, he's I think he's in.
- 10:36Speaker 2: I think he's got some potential.
- 10:38Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 10:38Speaker 8: We we had some conversations in the press box before
- 10:41Speaker 8: the game. Small media contingent on the road for a
- 10:44Speaker 8: preseason game, but there's a godless there was interesting to me. Yeah,
- 10:49Speaker 8: that's been the last couple of years. Last year in
- 10:51Speaker 8: Tennessee was pretty small.
- 10:52Speaker 2: Great. I saw most of the game, but some of
- 10:54Speaker 2: it was blocked out by this it person who decided
- 10:57Speaker 2: that she was going to test all the ports in
- 10:59Speaker 2: front of us in the middle of the game.
- 11:01Speaker 9: Yeah, yeah, I.
- 11:04Speaker 2: Purpose No, I think somebody else grunted and she realized, oh, oh,
- 11:07Speaker 2: I'm sorry. Are you actually trying to watch the game?
- 11:11Speaker 3: How long did they go for it before?
- 11:13Speaker 2: Minutes?
- 11:13Speaker 5: Now? If they changed that press box, I haven't been
- 11:15Speaker 5: there all. No, it's terrible. Is it still the one
- 11:17Speaker 5: that's low and in the corners. Yes, that's tough.
- 11:20Speaker 2: That's a tough it's a very you can you have
- 11:23Speaker 2: no perspective?
- 11:24Speaker 5: Yeah, tough.
- 11:25Speaker 2: So even and all their stats crew was right in
- 11:28Speaker 2: the press box next to us, says, you know, in
- 11:30Speaker 2: our press box, you only hear them. You don't see them,
- 11:33Speaker 2: and you only hear them when they put the speaker on.
- 11:36Speaker 2: These people right next to us, and it's constant blah
- 11:39Speaker 2: blah blah blah blah. And they have no perspective either,
- 11:42Speaker 2: so it's like where's the ball, like yelling at each other.
- 11:45Speaker 5: That's probably a tough place to do stats from.
- 11:47Speaker 2: They didn't even know, They had no idea how long.
- 11:50Speaker 2: They had no idea how long that final field goal
- 11:53Speaker 2: attempt was or no, the sixty four yard Yeah, they
- 11:56Speaker 2: thought it was fifty four yards. And it was a mess.
- 12:00Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:00Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 12:00Speaker 8: I turned to the person sitting next to me at
- 12:02Speaker 8: one point and was like, is it just me or
- 12:03Speaker 8: is it really hectic in here tonight? It was just
- 12:06Speaker 8: there's so much noise and people moving around and then
- 12:10Speaker 8: the tech it lady, and I was just like, I'm just.
- 12:12Speaker 9: Trying to watch the game.
- 12:14Speaker 2: Is a working environment?
- 12:15Speaker 9: Yeah, we all settle down.
- 12:16Speaker 2: They have a candy bar, No, but they had hot
- 12:18Speaker 2: some jars.
- 12:21Speaker 3: That's the way you got hot dogs in the press box. Threads.
- 12:24Speaker 2: That should be mandatory. Every press box should have hot dogs.
- 12:26Speaker 5: Glizzies.
- 12:28Speaker 2: You know, I don't care what brand, but just just
- 12:31Speaker 2: have hot.
- 12:31Speaker 5: Dogs, popcorn, popcorn, popcorn.
- 12:35Speaker 2: You like the popcorn, you teeth.
- 12:39Speaker 3: I'm lucky to have to write during because if I
- 12:40Speaker 3: didn't have to write during the game, I would just
- 12:42Speaker 3: be munching popcorn or like sour Patch candy, like that
- 12:45Speaker 3: whole game. So it's probably good keep my fingers active.
- 12:47Speaker 5: You're a big sour patch kid.
- 12:49Speaker 2: Watermelons, that's that's not good for your teeth.
- 12:51Speaker 3: I don't do them that much, but I don't worry
- 12:52Speaker 3: nowhere candies cut three years. I got a cleaning yesterday,
- 12:57Speaker 3: thumbs up, no cavities, don't worry pop up the way now.
- 13:01Speaker 3: But I got the bag with the mini you know,
- 13:02Speaker 3: to toothpaste and a new.
- 13:03Speaker 2: Toothbrush, travel gear, travel travel floss. Okay, so back to football.
- 13:09Speaker 3: So we've got the yeah, Born and Strange pup are
- 13:12Speaker 3: of reports as well.
- 13:13Speaker 5: Yeah yeah, those those are not Taki Taki, not taki
- 13:16Speaker 5: yet all right.
- 13:18Speaker 3: And he was running a little bit on that lower field.
- 13:20Speaker 3: I don't know what it means, but yeah, maybe.
- 13:22Speaker 5: Henning Born ran a marathon.
- 13:25Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, I would just say too with like
- 13:28Speaker 3: Ellis McMillan, Giles Harris, Tacky Taki kind of all the
- 13:31Speaker 3: same guy to me.
- 13:33Speaker 7: I mean McMillan's a little bigger and more of the
- 13:36Speaker 7: like that kind of traditional maybe like a Bentley kind
- 13:39Speaker 7: of replacement to me, whereas Taki Taki and a little
- 13:43Speaker 7: bit more active, kind of like that Mac Wilson thing
- 13:45Speaker 7: of the past.
- 13:46Speaker 3: I just don't know how.
- 13:46Speaker 5: It's like more of a pass game kind of together.
- 13:49Speaker 2: So with the if you add up, if the reports
- 13:53Speaker 2: and the ones that are official, what have we got
- 13:55Speaker 2: about six more guys to.
- 13:56Speaker 9: Go now we're at sixty five.
- 13:58Speaker 2: We're at sixty five now, Yeah, okay, so we've got
- 14:01Speaker 2: twelve guys to go.
- 14:02Speaker 8: Yes, I mean some of them, Like I said earlier,
- 14:04Speaker 8: David Wallace is just by. We could probably get it
- 14:09Speaker 8: down to probably fifty six fifty five guys. It's really
- 14:12Speaker 8: just sixty five technically.
- 14:13Speaker 3: You know, del Pettis and Jotham Russell are the only
- 14:16Speaker 3: two kind of undrafted rookie guys.
- 14:19Speaker 7: I think del Pettis if like Josh Bledsoe was one
- 14:21Speaker 7: of the guys that's reportedly gone, I think that could
- 14:24Speaker 7: mean that del Pettis might have a role.
- 14:28Speaker 5: Yeah, Jathan Russell. I think does he stay on the
- 14:30Speaker 5: practice squad like.
- 14:31Speaker 9: He's a seventeenth practice squad guy.
- 14:34Speaker 5: Right for no apparent reason.
- 14:36Speaker 7: No, no penalty, It doesn't pass away play, he doesn't count.
- 14:41Speaker 2: So why do you think that there are some players
- 14:44Speaker 2: that they announced early in that fourteen person press release
- 14:49Speaker 2: and some that they're waiting to announce.
- 14:51Speaker 8: Well, the guys that they announced yesterday, I would assume
- 14:54Speaker 8: we're not close to making the roster, and you put
- 14:57Speaker 8: your name out there earlier, so you get a little
- 14:59Speaker 8: bit of a headstart, whereas maybe you wait a little
- 15:01Speaker 8: bit longer, and in that way there you can sneak
- 15:03Speaker 8: some guys through to the practice squad. Like the guys
- 15:06Speaker 8: that come down to like the very bitter end are
- 15:08Speaker 8: usually the ones that you're trying to keep under wraps
- 15:10Speaker 8: for as long as possible.
- 15:11Speaker 3: Yeah, like all the cornerbacks, you know, that whole group
- 15:14Speaker 3: of you know, Seam Wade, Isaiah Boulden or Sells, all
- 15:16Speaker 3: those guys still seem to be around. I think that's
- 15:18Speaker 3: a spot maybe where I'd like to maybe hang onto
- 15:20Speaker 3: some of those guys.
- 15:21Speaker 7: It's a good question, though, Fred, and I don't I
- 15:23Speaker 7: don't have a good answer for it. But because they
- 15:26Speaker 7: didn't practice. Yeah, Like so they come back, you know,
- 15:29Speaker 7: maybe they're just I mean getting final evaluations from a healthstap,
- 15:33Speaker 7: you know, like however.
- 15:34Speaker 2: Came announcing like veterans are like just as a you know,
- 15:38Speaker 2: a little pat in the back. Get them out early
- 15:40Speaker 2: so they can hook on with another team. But like
- 15:43Speaker 2: these guys, what does.
- 15:44Speaker 5: It matter practicing today?
- 15:46Speaker 2: No?
- 15:46Speaker 7: No, So that's the only thing that ever comes into
- 15:50Speaker 7: my mind is when you know a guy is gonna
- 15:52Speaker 7: get cut, you cut him because you don't want to
- 15:55Speaker 7: risk something happening on the practice field. And case they're
- 16:01Speaker 7: coming back from Washington's you know, early morning hours Monday,
- 16:05Speaker 7: they haven't practiced, they're not they I don't know why
- 16:07Speaker 7: you would release fourteen guys yesterday and not just you
- 16:10Speaker 7: know whatever forty today, right, Yeah, but the thirty whatever.
- 16:16Speaker 2: Yeah, there will be more guys released today and they'll
- 16:18Speaker 2: have to have a press release because those are mandatory
- 16:21Speaker 2: by four o'clock. So we'll see what happens.
- 16:24Speaker 3: Do you remember last year even do we get the
- 16:25Speaker 3: official Yeah, I was gonna say six o'clock, it's mandatory
- 16:29Speaker 3: day file to the league.
- 16:31Speaker 5: League.
- 16:31Speaker 9: Yeah, we'll see what time we get the press release, the.
- 16:34Speaker 2: Whole New World.
- 16:34Speaker 7: I don't know about the press release, but we'll know
- 16:36Speaker 7: four o'clock, the Whole New World.
- 16:38Speaker 9: That's what they keep saying.
- 16:39Speaker 2: We'll see Yeah, okay uh. And then, of course the
- 16:42Speaker 2: big discussion is what's going to happen week one at
- 16:47Speaker 2: the quarterback position. And I think if you watch the game,
- 16:52Speaker 2: especially this third game, you saw the potential of Drake May.
- 16:57Speaker 2: You know, the athletic ability that no other quarterback on
- 17:00Speaker 2: this team has except for maybe Joe Milton. But you
- 17:04Speaker 2: add that with, you know, his readiness and ability to
- 17:07Speaker 2: play the position both from the mental and physical standpoint.
- 17:11Speaker 2: There's no one better on this roster right now than
- 17:13Speaker 2: Drake May. But you know there are other factors that
- 17:17Speaker 2: the coaches are taken into consideration, the state of the
- 17:20Speaker 2: team so on that you know, maybe the best guy
- 17:25Speaker 2: doesn't start. But as anybody here's opinions changed since the
- 17:31Speaker 2: last time we had our show.
- 17:34Speaker 7: No, I still think that May should start week one,
- 17:36Speaker 7: just like I did when they drafted them in April.
- 17:37Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, play May.
- 17:39Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 17:40Speaker 2: No, I still go back to your argument last Thursday, Deuce,
- 17:45Speaker 2: And in case anybody wasn't watching It made a lot
- 17:49Speaker 2: of sense to me in that it's a brand new
- 17:51Speaker 2: offense with brand new coaches, coaches who have never coached
- 17:56Speaker 2: these players in that offense in a regular season, So
- 18:00Speaker 2: nobody knows what this offense is going to look like. Yeah,
- 18:04Speaker 2: you know, when the season starts, nobody knows. And is
- 18:08Speaker 2: it a good idea to see what the offense looks
- 18:11Speaker 2: like first before you insert Drake May into it? So
- 18:15Speaker 2: at least you have a bar. Okay, here's what the
- 18:17Speaker 2: offense looks like. Now let's see what effect Drake May
- 18:20Speaker 2: has on the offense.
- 18:23Speaker 3: That's where I'm still at. Fred. I mean, I'll diverge
- 18:24Speaker 3: from the boys here. I'm not I don't need to
- 18:26Speaker 3: start him next week. I don't need to start him
- 18:28Speaker 3: against this defense, these first two defenses. I'm gonna let
- 18:32Speaker 3: Jacobe go out there. I want to see what the
- 18:33Speaker 3: real problems are. I want to see what a real
- 18:35Speaker 3: game plan looks like and what, you know, how they
- 18:37Speaker 3: actually try to put things together, and you know, then
- 18:41Speaker 3: I want to get him in this year. But I
- 18:42Speaker 3: just don't need to start him next week against Cincinna.
- 18:44Speaker 2: But like what you just said, let's see what the
- 18:47Speaker 2: problems are you know if you put may if may starts,
- 18:51Speaker 2: is he part of the problem or is he not
- 18:54Speaker 2: part of the problem. You don't know because you don't
- 18:56Speaker 2: know what it looked like without him. So to me,
- 18:59Speaker 2: that's the only kind of argument that makes any type
- 19:03Speaker 2: of sense to not start May.
- 19:07Speaker 7: Well, what if he's not ready mentally? Like what if
- 19:09Speaker 7: he doesn't know the offense?
- 19:11Speaker 2: But I think the coaches would know that.
- 19:13Speaker 5: Well, yeah, well, but.
- 19:14Speaker 7: That's an argument to not stot them, right. I don't
- 19:16Speaker 7: know the like, I'm not saying that, I don't know
- 19:17Speaker 7: the answer to that. I'm just saying, yeah, that's not
- 19:20Speaker 7: the only reason Mayo wouldn't start them.
- 19:22Speaker 2: If I think that's a given. I think that's a given.
- 19:26Speaker 2: If may isn't mentally ready, then he shouldn't.
- 19:29Speaker 5: Start, right.
- 19:30Speaker 7: But I think that people sort of watch the preseason
- 19:34Speaker 7: games and they say, well, he's ready, Like, how do
- 19:36Speaker 7: you It's just not about skills, no, Like, again, we're
- 19:40Speaker 7: going to go back to April. We knew that he
- 19:42Speaker 7: had more skill than Jacobe Brisstt.
- 19:44Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean you're not scheming in these preseason games.
- 19:48Speaker 2: You're playing against second and third uh, you know, guys
- 19:52Speaker 2: on the depth chart, so you don't know. You really
- 19:56Speaker 2: don't know. He's not running really the offense yet, so
- 19:59Speaker 2: you you know, mentally, it's hard for us to judge. Now,
- 20:02Speaker 2: the coaches know because they they know what's supposed to
- 20:05Speaker 2: be happening in practice. They know how he is in
- 20:08Speaker 2: the film room, so the page, the coaches have a
- 20:12Speaker 2: good idea of whether or not he's mentally ready.
- 20:15Speaker 8: Yeah, I can't speak to the practice piece of it
- 20:17Speaker 8: as much because we don't watch the film of practice.
- 20:21Speaker 2: We don't know, we don't know what we're looking at.
- 20:23Speaker 8: Well, I wouldn't say that. I just would say that
- 20:24Speaker 8: we don't have the.
- 20:25Speaker 2: Film a practice.
- 20:26Speaker 5: I would I would say that.
- 20:28Speaker 8: No, I'm just saying I would say that about any
- 20:30Speaker 8: of us, Like we've all watched plenty of practice over
- 20:33Speaker 8: the years to know what it looks like on a
- 20:34Speaker 8: football field and whether or not it's working or not,
- 20:37Speaker 8: Like we.
- 20:37Speaker 2: Know what it's working. But again, this is the whole
- 20:40Speaker 2: PFF argument of of how they grade things. They don't like.
- 20:44Speaker 2: You look at a blocking uh you know, the offensive line,
- 20:47Speaker 2: and you see the tackle make a big mistake. Well,
- 20:50Speaker 2: you don't know if it was because there was bad
- 20:52Speaker 2: communication with the guard or if the tackle was just
- 20:56Speaker 2: you know, just got beaten. That's you know, that happen.
- 21:00Speaker 2: It's more than you think.
- 21:01Speaker 8: Maybe I just feel like, you know, Paul has been
- 21:05Speaker 8: watching training camp practices. Not to make you feel old, Paul,
- 21:07Speaker 8: but for twenty years. Like I think Paul has an
- 21:11Speaker 8: eye for the game.
- 21:12Speaker 2: And I think we all do, yeah in that respect,
- 21:15Speaker 2: but you know, we don't know what play they're actually
- 21:19Speaker 2: running and how it you know, if the quarterbacks saw
- 21:22Speaker 2: it the way it's supposed to be seen. That again,
- 21:25Speaker 2: that happens more often than you think. And you know,
- 21:29Speaker 2: you get back to the film room and what we
- 21:31Speaker 2: thought was the problem on the play really wasn't.
- 21:34Speaker 6: You know.
- 21:35Speaker 8: Yeah, that definitely happens during games, and you know, you
- 21:37Speaker 8: watch it live and you think one thing and you
- 21:39Speaker 8: go back and watch it. I this, they're in a
- 21:42Speaker 8: really tough spot. Like they're in a pickle right now
- 21:44Speaker 8: at this quarterback situation because he's the best quarterback on
- 21:46Speaker 8: the team, like Drake's the best quarterback on the team.
- 21:49Speaker 8: He's ready to play. Oh yeah, they're not ready for him,
- 21:52Speaker 8: you know. And to douce his point, if you give
- 21:54Speaker 8: it a month, does the offensive line kind of declare
- 21:57Speaker 8: itself and maybe settle down a little bit. Do you
- 22:00Speaker 8: understand what you're good at and what you're not good at,
- 22:02Speaker 8: and how you're going to move the ball offensively, and
- 22:05Speaker 8: then you put the better quarterback in and then it
- 22:07Speaker 8: elevates it even a little.
- 22:08Speaker 9: Bit more from where it was with Jacobi brissaid.
- 22:11Speaker 8: If they were in a situation, you know, let's just
- 22:14Speaker 8: use Chicago as an example, with Keenan Allen and DJ
- 22:17Speaker 8: Moore and Real madoone, say Cole Comet, there would be
- 22:20Speaker 8: no question in anybody's mind who was starting Week one
- 22:23Speaker 8: for the Patriots.
- 22:24Speaker 2: Because there's no question on anyone's mind what the offense is.
- 22:27Speaker 9: You know what I mean, Well, he just has more
- 22:29Speaker 9: talent around him, That's.
- 22:31Speaker 2: What I mean. Like you're you're sure of what's around
- 22:33Speaker 2: him right now. We don't know how these guys are
- 22:35Speaker 2: going to perform. I don't know how Poke is going
- 22:38Speaker 2: to be, and.
- 22:39Speaker 7: I just don't like that as a reason, Like if
- 22:41Speaker 7: he's not ready, then that's the only reason why I
- 22:43Speaker 7: would say he shouldn't play. If they If Gerard Mayo
- 22:47Speaker 7: thinks he needs more time to develop to sort of understand,
- 22:53Speaker 7: you know what game plans are going to be and
- 22:54Speaker 7: all that stuff, then I can I can accept it.
- 22:56Speaker 5: Otherwise I'm with Evan, like, yeah, I just.
- 22:58Speaker 9: All that stuff to me.
- 23:00Speaker 8: But it's in the same bucket of like is it
- 23:02Speaker 8: just better to just be patient and just let him
- 23:08Speaker 8: go through the motions of watching Jacob Prisett prepare for
- 23:11Speaker 8: a game and watching how he handles game day and
- 23:14Speaker 8: all these different little things. And then on top of that,
- 23:17Speaker 8: now you get AVP gets his feet wet, puck calling plays,
- 23:20Speaker 8: and the offensive line maybe comes together a little bit better,
- 23:23Speaker 8: and you just sort of, let's say, a month from now,
- 23:25Speaker 8: have a better idea of what your strengths and weaknesses
- 23:30Speaker 8: are as an offense. That if you go in there
- 23:32Speaker 8: and you put Drake May in week one, then he's
- 23:35Speaker 8: now the crash test on me. Like, let Jacoby Brissett
- 23:38Speaker 8: kind of do that sort of thing. Not that I
- 23:40Speaker 8: want him to get hurt, but like, let him sort
- 23:42Speaker 8: of go through those growing pains with the offense. That
- 23:45Speaker 8: there is a good argument for that, but I think
- 23:48Speaker 8: it's disappointing that they've put themselves in this position, that
- 23:52Speaker 8: the offensive line is in such a current disarray that
- 23:56Speaker 8: their best quarterback is.
- 23:58Speaker 9: Not going to be playing.
- 23:59Speaker 8: Yeah, and now you have to go in there and
- 24:01Speaker 8: you have to look at the defense and Jabrill Peppers
- 24:04Speaker 8: and Kyle Dugger and Devon Godshaw and all the Kean
- 24:07Speaker 8: White and say to them, sorry, but we can't throw
- 24:11Speaker 8: Drake to the Wolves. He's twenty one years old. He's
- 24:14Speaker 8: you know, we're not gonna do that. And they're gonna
- 24:16Speaker 8: go on the other side of the ball and they're
- 24:17Speaker 8: gonna be like, well, we got Burrow and Jamar Chase
- 24:20Speaker 8: in week one and we're gonna have our hands full
- 24:23Speaker 8: and we can't score on offense like that. That's not
- 24:26Speaker 8: a great feeling.
- 24:26Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I would also just point out that
- 24:29Speaker 3: Jacoby Brissett has started games against Cincinnati. He's familiar with
- 24:32Speaker 3: what they do. He's beaten that team before. I'm just
- 24:35Speaker 3: saying to Paul, two of the last three times Cleveland
- 24:38Speaker 3: has played Cincinnati, they've run the ball forty times. So
- 24:41Speaker 3: to me, that sounds like a conservative. Hey, Jacobe, go
- 24:43Speaker 3: out there and hand it off a bunch. And I'd
- 24:45Speaker 3: also say week two, you've got Mike McDonald, who is
- 24:48Speaker 3: arguably the hottest young defensive coordinator who is going to
- 24:52Speaker 3: put Drake may in a literal blender out there. So
- 24:55Speaker 3: if you want to throw him out there against that,
- 24:57Speaker 3: you know, I get it, Like I'm gonna be kind
- 24:58Speaker 3: of like, God, we got to watch Brissette, Like, I'm
- 25:00Speaker 3: with you, guys, But I do think that that's part
- 25:02Speaker 3: of it too. The teams that he's specifically going to
- 25:04Speaker 3: be going up against. Is he going to even have
- 25:06Speaker 3: a chance out there?
- 25:07Speaker 5: You know?
- 25:07Speaker 3: And is it or is it gonna be he's gonna
- 25:09Speaker 3: have guys falling around his legs and he's gonna have
- 25:11Speaker 3: to run and throw like let you Kobe deal with
- 25:13Speaker 3: it first couple of weeks.
- 25:14Speaker 2: No, it's it's not a it's a fair argument because
- 25:19Speaker 2: you have no idea how this offensive line is going
- 25:21Speaker 2: to be.
- 25:21Speaker 3: I just think Paul's thing is ultimately true, though he's
- 25:23Speaker 3: not ready yet. He doesn't know. I'm not I'm not
- 25:26Speaker 3: saying no, but I think that I'm not saying that's
- 25:28Speaker 3: what I'm saying at your point that he's like, it's
- 25:30Speaker 3: more it's not any of the stuff. It's that it's.
- 25:32Speaker 7: Because a couple of people have like snapped back and
- 25:34Speaker 7: me like, you know, well, Paul says he's not ready,
- 25:36Speaker 7: So he can't play.
- 25:37Speaker 3: No, No, I'm not saying you're not. I just think
- 25:38Speaker 3: that's what the reason I'm not gonna says get You're
- 25:43Speaker 3: gonna have Mike McDonald out there throwing all these crazy
- 25:45Speaker 3: who's coming, Who's going? And Drake May is going to
- 25:47Speaker 3: be like, oh my god, I hadn't.
- 25:48Speaker 5: Seen you know.
- 25:49Speaker 3: I just I like him.
- 25:50Speaker 7: It's gonna what's like a rookie quarterback, It's going to
- 25:53Speaker 7: be that you're in a blender. Like that's that's a given.
- 25:58Speaker 7: I just if he is, if he's done everything that
- 26:01Speaker 7: they wanted him to do and he's ready to go, Like,
- 26:04Speaker 7: at some point he's going to be in the blender,
- 26:06Speaker 7: I don't care if it's in week six, week eight,
- 26:08Speaker 7: week one. Like I want the blender part to be
- 26:11Speaker 7: over with as quickly as we can, as long as
- 26:13Speaker 7: he's ready to go.
- 26:14Speaker 5: If he's not, then I'm okay with the patient approach. Yeah,
- 26:17Speaker 5: like the whole like what do you guys think?
- 26:20Speaker 2: You know?
- 26:21Speaker 5: The offensive line?
- 26:22Speaker 7: Obviously they had a lot of issues the other night
- 26:24Speaker 7: with alignment with penalties and whatnot, but a lot of
- 26:27Speaker 7: people have sort of looked at it and said, and
- 26:29Speaker 7: I haven't seen what you've had to say about your
- 26:31Speaker 7: film review, but like it was pretty good, like otherwise,
- 26:34Speaker 7: like a WHENU was openly defiant after the game. You know,
- 26:40Speaker 7: Mayo was saying they were in the backfield, and when
- 26:42Speaker 7: you're saying, no, we were fine, like that worries me too.
- 26:46Speaker 7: I didn't think it was fine.
- 26:47Speaker 5: I thought may looked like he was sort of making
- 26:50Speaker 5: a lot of plays on his own, a lot.
- 26:52Speaker 2: Of plays on his own, and also a lot of
- 26:54Speaker 2: plays with people all over him. Yeah, to the point
- 26:57Speaker 2: where he didn't have room to follow through, which I
- 27:00Speaker 2: was worried about him hurting it.
- 27:01Speaker 5: And it's a really short amount of time that he played.
- 27:04Speaker 5: And you know, like I just my impression. I didn't
- 27:06Speaker 5: think it was great.
- 27:07Speaker 3: No, My impression in what we saw a little bit
- 27:08Speaker 3: on social media yesterday was that you can highlight individual
- 27:12Speaker 3: plays along the offensive line that we're promising, but as
- 27:15Speaker 3: together as a whole, working as a unit, it was
- 27:17Speaker 3: a mess.
- 27:18Speaker 7: The only thing I could say on a positive side
- 27:21Speaker 7: is how much better will it look when David Andrews
- 27:23Speaker 7: is in there? And I think there's something to be
- 27:25Speaker 7: said for that, Like it's an important position. Van Pelt
- 27:30Speaker 7: says that in particular for that offense. The center does
- 27:33Speaker 7: a lot, and he's a big upgrade, you know, no
- 27:36Speaker 7: offense to Nick Leverrett. He's really not a center. So
- 27:39Speaker 7: I think that's a big difference. But I didn't like
- 27:42Speaker 7: what I saw individually for most of those guys, and
- 27:47Speaker 7: I don't know if that's the reason why you're not
- 27:49Speaker 7: playing him. I don't really like it because I think
- 27:50Speaker 7: you can you can learn from that. I think you
- 27:52Speaker 7: can get some benefit from playing if he's ready to play.
- 27:56Speaker 7: That's always my caveat.
- 27:57Speaker 8: Yeah, So I'm not going to sit here and say
- 27:59Speaker 8: the offense the line was good the other night, because
- 28:02Speaker 8: I'm not gonna lie to people and say that the
- 28:04Speaker 8: penalties were absolutely inexcusable. That being said that when you
- 28:09Speaker 8: watch the film back in the first half, that it
- 28:12Speaker 8: wasn't as bad as it ran the ball watching live,
- 28:17Speaker 8: they only allowed seven pressures on twenty seven twenty six dropbacks.
- 28:21Speaker 8: It's about twenty seven percent, which is pretty good. You know,
- 28:24Speaker 8: thirty percent is anything below thirty is good. Anything over
- 28:28Speaker 8: thirty you're starting to get into danger zone. So twenty
- 28:31Speaker 8: seven percent is not bad. I know it's against backups
- 28:34Speaker 8: and all that, but when you actually watch when they
- 28:38Speaker 8: weren't aligned improperly and getting flagged left and the right,
- 28:41Speaker 8: and you just actually snapped the ball and had the
- 28:43Speaker 8: play go off. They actually did an okay job, and really,
- 28:48Speaker 8: to me, the one guy who just was dreadful was
- 28:53Speaker 8: Chokes And if you take him, he had four penalties
- 28:56Speaker 8: and he had three of the seven quarterback pressures allowed.
- 28:59Speaker 8: So half of the all the issues with the offensive
- 29:02Speaker 8: line was one guy.
- 29:03Speaker 2: What do you think why do you think he kept
- 29:06Speaker 2: lining up that way because he's cheating? No, I know
- 29:09Speaker 2: why he's like, but why again and again and again
- 29:12Speaker 2: and again.
- 29:13Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean, look a lot of linemen, you know,
- 29:15Speaker 8: Juwan Taylor with the Chiefs is kind of the reason
- 29:17Speaker 8: why this is even a story.
- 29:19Speaker 9: Uh, he did it a lot last year.
- 29:21Speaker 8: It was they were a lot of games on national
- 29:23Speaker 8: TV for Kansas City, and like we know around here,
- 29:26Speaker 8: when the when that spotlight's on you, it becomes a thing.
- 29:29Speaker 2: Right.
- 29:30Speaker 8: It's kind of like the Patriots, you know, being physical
- 29:33Speaker 8: with the cults receivers and then all of a sudden
- 29:35Speaker 8: it's an emphasis that we're not going to allow contact
- 29:38Speaker 8: down the field.
- 29:39Speaker 9: So he they.
- 29:42Speaker 8: It seems like a lot of linemen try to cheat
- 29:44Speaker 8: that just a little bit and get away with it.
- 29:47Speaker 8: They also try to cheat the snap and get away
- 29:49Speaker 8: with it too, And it's just a matter of do
- 29:52Speaker 8: you have a crew that's being strict about it and
- 29:54Speaker 8: how much are you after does it?
- 29:56Speaker 2: Once? You know, in a particular guy like I, I understand,
- 30:00Speaker 2: I'm going to test this ref I'm gonna see what
- 30:02Speaker 2: my limits are. But after you realize, okay, he's gonna
- 30:05Speaker 2: call me, why did he keep doing?
- 30:07Speaker 3: That's what Reese asked Mayo yesterday. I mean, that's what
- 30:08Speaker 3: Reese was trying to get out, Like what And I mean,
- 30:11Speaker 3: I just go back to the summer in training camp.
- 30:12Speaker 3: He was one of the main offenders of all the
- 30:14Speaker 3: false starts, the rehuddles. This is I don't have a
- 30:17Speaker 3: lot of confidence in its seven right now. I'm adding
- 30:19Speaker 3: him to my list of the surprise candidates.
- 30:22Speaker 5: Yeah, for that reason.
- 30:24Speaker 8: Well, I it the thought crossed my mind watching it
- 30:27Speaker 8: back yesterday that he might be trying to get him
- 30:30Speaker 8: his way out of town. Maybe he's not happy about
- 30:33Speaker 8: the flip flopping of left and right and you know,
- 30:36Speaker 8: basically paying him nothing to be a starting left tackle
- 30:40Speaker 8: and those types of things.
- 30:41Speaker 9: Maybe that.
- 30:41Speaker 8: You know, Trent Brown went through that with the with
- 30:43Speaker 8: the team too, when they paid him like a right
- 30:46Speaker 8: tackle and then we're playing him at left. I don't
- 30:48Speaker 8: that's purely speculative.
- 30:50Speaker 9: But you lie.
- 30:51Speaker 8: You got called for four penalties in one half. You're
- 30:54Speaker 8: aligning incorrectly, You're giving up pressure left and right.
- 30:57Speaker 9: Like it just the effort was He's not about repeater.
- 31:00Speaker 5: I mean, that is the effort part is why I
- 31:02Speaker 5: was thinking, Yeah, the.
- 31:03Speaker 3: Ever repeater thing, Like I'm like, they would have old
- 31:06Speaker 3: Rashime would have pulled that guy out of the game.
- 31:07Speaker 7: I feel like, well, and then you know, like I
- 31:11Speaker 7: do agree that there are times where you know, the
- 31:13Speaker 7: league looks at and says, you know, we have some
- 31:16Speaker 7: things that we want to emphasize, and it's a national
- 31:19Speaker 7: TV game.
- 31:19Speaker 5: Good, good time to do it right. Why was it
- 31:22Speaker 5: only on one team?
- 31:24Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 31:25Speaker 5: Yeah, because there was only one team doing it right right?
- 31:29Speaker 7: You know, like this whole notion it was like a
- 31:31Speaker 7: flag happy ref which by the way, Sean Hockily only
- 31:34Speaker 7: did the first half. He didn't do the whole game,
- 31:36Speaker 7: and there were plenty of flags in the second half too.
- 31:39Speaker 3: What do we got, Chad Roland, Yeah, Joey Chad, that's
- 31:44Speaker 3: a big one. Adam Schefter.
- 31:46Speaker 2: So Joey Sly wins the kicking competition.
- 31:48Speaker 5: I just think that was where it was trending. Yeah,
- 31:51Speaker 5: Sly was was better, especially late.
- 31:55Speaker 7: I think you know, when you could perceive that as
- 31:57Speaker 7: when it got sort of important, when you know it's
- 32:01Speaker 7: really down to the pressure rises.
- 32:04Speaker 5: I think the last two practices, Ryland was like one
- 32:07Speaker 5: for four at the end of practice.
- 32:08Speaker 3: Yeah, definitely had one was four for four, one for four.
- 32:11Speaker 8: Yeah, it was much better for Sly forty five plus two,
- 32:15Speaker 8: and I feel like that's really what separates kickers. Like
- 32:17Speaker 8: every kicker in the NFL, for the most part, is
- 32:19Speaker 8: pretty good from forty and in it's you know, the
- 32:21Speaker 8: distance kicks, and Joey's Sly was much more accurate from
- 32:24Speaker 8: forty five plus.
- 32:26Speaker 7: So, I mean there's some resolution there. That's probably not
- 32:30Speaker 7: what they wanted. They probably wanted Ryland to win that
- 32:32Speaker 7: job as a fourth round pick and whatnot, But I
- 32:36Speaker 7: think Sly was better.
- 32:37Speaker 3: Yeah, Yeah, competition.
- 32:38Speaker 2: Okay, Well there's a little breaking news, not official though,
- 32:42Speaker 2: right official Adam Schefter though Adam Schefter, yeahah Shifter is
- 32:44Speaker 2: usually reliable source.
- 32:47Speaker 7: So the you know, like just that whole thing with
- 32:50Speaker 7: the with the flags. Yeah, I do think that all
- 32:52Speaker 7: those things are probably accurate. I just don't think it
- 32:54Speaker 7: explains it. And to me, the bigger thing is twofold one.
- 32:58Speaker 7: It's the shots that we're seeing of Scott Peters and
- 33:02Speaker 7: Mayo specifically sort of hammering them on the sideline to
- 33:06Speaker 7: line up properly and then then going back out and
- 33:08Speaker 7: doing it again. And it was a win you too,
- 33:10Speaker 7: by the way, it wasn't just a core for and
- 33:14Speaker 7: you know that the second part of that is sort
- 33:17Speaker 7: of Mayo talking in post games saying, you know, we're
- 33:19Speaker 7: looking at the pitchers and they were in the backfield,
- 33:22Speaker 7: and when you're saying they be they were being picky,
- 33:24Speaker 7: you know, for lack of a better I'm paraphrasing, but
- 33:27Speaker 7: when you was basically telling you it wasn't that big
- 33:29Speaker 7: a deal, like that worries me. Like that's like that's
- 33:33Speaker 7: coaching and obviously they're not necessarily looking at it. And
- 33:37Speaker 7: like when Evan says something like chokes kind of has
- 33:40Speaker 7: the look of a guy who might not be happy
- 33:42Speaker 7: and he might be trying to make a send a message.
- 33:45Speaker 7: I don't dismiss that I think that's possible.
- 33:48Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean he at this point, everybody's healthy on
- 33:52Speaker 8: the line, assuming everybody's healthy on the line, but Darien
- 33:54Speaker 8: Low's a better left tackle than Chuokes's like Vadariu and
- 33:57Speaker 8: LS should be starting against the Bengals if he's healthy. A.
- 34:00Speaker 7: I would think that that's why he sat out the
- 34:01Speaker 7: other night, because there was a couple of reports that
- 34:04Speaker 7: indicated that was minor and he could go, and they
- 34:07Speaker 7: chose to sit him.
- 34:08Speaker 5: I would be surprised if he didn't start.
- 34:10Speaker 8: Yeah, at this point, I feel like you score for
- 34:12Speaker 8: us on the bench, like I I you know, I'm
- 34:14Speaker 8: assuming when who's going to play right tackle? And Vederianos
- 34:18Speaker 8: should play left?
- 34:19Speaker 5: So that's too bad. Here's a couple of things though.
- 34:21Speaker 7: We should keep talking about the offensive line, because so
- 34:24Speaker 7: you would keep Laydon Robinson at right guard because I
- 34:26Speaker 7: didn't like that the other night either.
- 34:27Speaker 8: Oh, I thought he was much better on the film,
- 34:29Speaker 8: Like a couple of penalties, like he's he's a rookies
- 34:31Speaker 8: were going to be on a roller cars.
- 34:33Speaker 7: I'm I'm not just worried about the penalties as I
- 34:34Speaker 7: am getting pushed around, but I also am very worried
- 34:38Speaker 7: and I said this in the post game about City.
- 34:40Speaker 7: So that game, those like I don't want to say
- 34:44Speaker 7: non contact because obviously he's blocking, so this contact, but
- 34:46Speaker 7: there was nothing apparent that happened, like he didn't right, Yeah,
- 34:50Speaker 7: they listed at his ankle, he didn't turn it. We
- 34:52Speaker 7: watched the replay several times.
- 34:54Speaker 2: Yeah, could ankle.
- 34:59Speaker 5: He's in a boot at.
- 35:00Speaker 7: The end of by by all reports, did you see
- 35:03Speaker 7: him Yeah, yeah, I'm just I'm not telling you that
- 35:07Speaker 7: it is that. I'm telling you on worried that that's
- 35:10Speaker 7: a significant injury. And that's yeah, I think not good
- 35:12Speaker 7: for a team that wants to be strong on the interior.
- 35:15Speaker 3: I just say Brandon Thorne had a nice cut up
- 35:17Speaker 3: of Laydon Robinson. I mean, I was with you watching.
- 35:19Speaker 3: He had a good He was very high on Laydon
- 35:22Speaker 3: Robinson and put together a loss.
- 35:25Speaker 5: Like I guess, I just don't know anything about football.
- 35:27Speaker 5: Because the guy was in the backfield the whole game.
- 35:29Speaker 3: I felt the same way you felt, just and I
- 35:31Speaker 3: like the guy.
- 35:32Speaker 5: I think he's made a push. I'm just gonna get we.
- 35:34Speaker 2: Haven't really talked about Wallace.
- 35:36Speaker 3: I thought he was actually okay too.
- 35:38Speaker 8: Yes, I thought he was Okay, he was Caden Wallace
- 35:40Speaker 8: in the second half of this game was really good.
- 35:42Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 35:43Speaker 8: I would say probably his best film of the preseason
- 35:45Speaker 8: so far. Now, I mean he's going up against guys
- 35:47Speaker 8: that are gonna get cut by Washington most likely, so
- 35:49Speaker 8: with that being considered, but I thought he was really
- 35:52Speaker 8: good in this game. Really made some really good blocks
- 35:55Speaker 8: in their outside zone schemes. Had one awesome block. I
- 35:57Speaker 8: had posted it on my Twitter and on our side zone.
- 36:01Speaker 8: That's really good. I do wonder if there's a world
- 36:04Speaker 8: where if this is an injury to City that he's
- 36:06Speaker 8: going to miss some time. Caden at right on WHENU
- 36:09Speaker 8: andrews Leyden Robinson Viderium play left.
- 36:13Speaker 3: Has he played left at all?
- 36:14Speaker 9: He can play some left. I think he played left
- 36:16Speaker 9: in college. You know that that might be He was
- 36:19Speaker 9: that left.
- 36:20Speaker 5: Guard a lot in practice because he was replacing.
- 36:22Speaker 8: So yeah, yeah, that might be their their best five
- 36:25Speaker 8: right now. And it also gets those two rookies out there,
- 36:28Speaker 8: So there's some upside if those guys work out some
- 36:31Speaker 8: of these issues.
- 36:32Speaker 7: That would be my upside if you can get Robinson
- 36:34Speaker 7: and Wallace in the starting line up. We talked about
- 36:36Speaker 7: that in the post game show too. Then you draft
- 36:39Speaker 7: a left tackle and suddenly, like not not just playing,
- 36:44Speaker 7: I'm talking about did good did they belong in the
- 36:47Speaker 7: starting lineup? Not just well, you know, we don't have
- 36:49Speaker 7: anything else we're going to start. You know, if those
- 36:51Speaker 7: two guys are good starters by the end of the year,
- 36:54Speaker 7: and then you draft a left tackle, all of a
- 36:55Speaker 7: sudden you get an offensive line cold strange comes.
- 36:57Speaker 2: Back, so that you talk about, but I'm talking about
- 36:59Speaker 2: week one sychastic. If I'm a defensive coordinator playing the
- 37:04Speaker 2: Patriots early this season, I'm licking my jobs. I'm gonna
- 37:08Speaker 2: test that.
- 37:09Speaker 3: I said it this morning. I knew exactly Rush three.
- 37:14Speaker 5: Blitz all year.
- 37:15Speaker 7: I just let them go after him and just cover. Well,
- 37:18Speaker 7: see see what they got. Make the quarterback hold the
- 37:20Speaker 7: ball and you're going to get there.
- 37:21Speaker 2: Now, if you're the Patriots, you know that we're going
- 37:23Speaker 2: to get tested. However it is we're going to get tested.
- 37:27Speaker 2: Does the importance of that fifth, that extra alignement coming
- 37:32Speaker 2: in or an extra tight end being kept in, like
- 37:36Speaker 2: how often Wallace? How often are you going to have
- 37:38Speaker 2: to go into max protect to start this season? And
- 37:41Speaker 2: does that limit your offense?
- 37:43Speaker 3: Especially without any tight ends?
- 37:44Speaker 8: Who are really Plus I'm not a big fan of
- 37:47Speaker 8: six offensive lineman unless it's short yardage. I just it
- 37:51Speaker 8: makes it much more difficult when you only send four
- 37:53Speaker 8: guys into the pattern to space the field. Like now
- 37:56Speaker 8: you are telling the defense that you're only going to
- 37:59Speaker 8: have four receivers out in the pattern, and I just
- 38:01Speaker 8: am not a.
- 38:01Speaker 9: Huge fan of that.
- 38:02Speaker 8: But they could easily and you know, they'll move the
- 38:05Speaker 8: pocket and they'll do some of those bootlegs and things
- 38:07Speaker 8: like that too, So they could easily have some six
- 38:10Speaker 8: seven man protect off play action where they're only sending
- 38:13Speaker 8: two or three guys. But that that's scheming it up.
- 38:15Speaker 8: You know, you're dressing it up now at this point.
- 38:18Speaker 8: So I mean, it's possible that they could do some
- 38:21Speaker 8: some of that kind of stuff. That's sort of where
- 38:22Speaker 8: I've been at with Drake May is that you know,
- 38:25Speaker 8: he is athletic and he can move in the pocket,
- 38:27Speaker 8: and you can move outside the pocket, and you can
- 38:29Speaker 8: move the pocket and schematically and all that kind of stuff.
- 38:31Speaker 3: Another one David Wallace, Fred, Sorry, that's Dug Kyde reporting
- 38:35Speaker 3: David David, not the one from the office.
- 38:37Speaker 5: Who's receiver who reported that, Uh, Dougie Doug Kayde Dougie.
- 38:41Speaker 3: Doug Yeah, and Chris Price also confirmed. Chad Ryland league
- 38:46Speaker 3: source now just just confirmed.
- 38:48Speaker 2: He can confirm.
- 38:50Speaker 7: I love the I love the confirmations. Don't ever change boys. Yeah,
- 38:55Speaker 7: the I agree with Evans's point on the like if
- 38:59Speaker 7: you're in like if you want to keep a tight
- 39:02Speaker 7: end into block, that's okay, because that's not telling the
- 39:05Speaker 7: defense that you're only like if you have a tackle
- 39:08Speaker 7: on third and eleven and you have like an extra
- 39:10Speaker 7: tackle as the six offensive lineman, you're telling the defense
- 39:14Speaker 7: that the max protecting you, right.
- 39:16Speaker 3: Like unless it's like a game like twenty fourteen against
- 39:19Speaker 3: the Colts where you're just like we're gonna put six
- 39:20Speaker 3: off and you can't stop us, like you just you can't.
- 39:22Speaker 5: Oh you're running the book.
- 39:23Speaker 7: Yeah, Like no, no, I'm talking about like third and
- 39:25Speaker 7: eleven you got to throw and you're telling the defense
- 39:28Speaker 7: we're only going to use five receivers four receivers here now?
- 39:31Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 39:32Speaker 9: Yeah, no it.
- 39:34Speaker 8: I when I wrote it in after further review, I said, like,
- 39:38Speaker 8: how is the play, missus Lincoln when you take the
- 39:41Speaker 8: when you take the penalties out, It was fine, right,
- 39:43Speaker 8: you know, it's it's one of those situations. But I
- 39:46Speaker 8: actually thought, I don't even know what the right word is, Like,
- 39:49Speaker 8: I guess I was like pleasantly surprised that it wasn't
- 39:52Speaker 8: as much of a train wreck as I thought watching live.
- 39:54Speaker 7: And that's why I keep talking about David Andrews, because
- 39:56Speaker 7: I thought Leverett really was getting pushed in the backfield too.
- 40:01Speaker 2: His snaps are bad.
- 40:03Speaker 9: Yeah, I think some of that's on Drake.
- 40:04Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't know.
- 40:05Speaker 2: I look at the ball.
- 40:06Speaker 8: It's like floating like a knuckle The shotgun snap was
- 40:10Speaker 8: was not the center stuff.
- 40:11Speaker 7: Is It was a low snap. The snap that that
- 40:14Speaker 7: May bobbled was on May. The ball they showed the replay,
- 40:18Speaker 7: it definitely came when he was under center.
- 40:19Speaker 2: Yeah oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm just talking about one.
- 40:23Speaker 5: But that's not ideal. But yeah, May, I thought May
- 40:25Speaker 5: rightly called himself out.
- 40:27Speaker 2: On his snaps are slow with and they're they're like knuckleballs.
- 40:31Speaker 9: Yeah, no, he's it's a problem.
- 40:33Speaker 8: But David Andrews will problem, will make it better. And
- 40:37Speaker 8: the sack on Brissett, to me, was uh schematic more
- 40:42Speaker 8: than anything. I didn't love the play call into the
- 40:46Speaker 8: front that the defense was running because they had a
- 40:49Speaker 8: player right over Laden Robinson, uh, you know, in the
- 40:52Speaker 8: in the B gap or and then they had a
- 40:55Speaker 8: defensive end with his hand in the dirt. That was
- 40:57Speaker 8: the unblocked rusher. Like if you're gonna leave a guy
- 40:59Speaker 8: on blocked, usually it's like a wide nye with the
- 41:01Speaker 8: two you know, up on his feet and you have
- 41:03Speaker 8: a little bit more time to get there. Even if
- 41:06Speaker 8: that hit the way it was supposed to do, I'm
- 41:08Speaker 8: still not one hundred percent soul City so gets there.
- 41:10Speaker 7: We talked about it a little bit while it happened.
- 41:13Speaker 7: There was so many things that seemed like they were
- 41:15Speaker 7: wrong on that that it had to be So is that.
- 41:17Speaker 2: Something that the quarterbacks should see and then call out
- 41:20Speaker 2: of the play.
- 41:22Speaker 5: It's a good point.
- 41:23Speaker 8: If it was Tom Brady, I would probably say that
- 41:25Speaker 8: he would, but I don't know what kind of controls
- 41:29Speaker 8: they're giving.
- 41:30Speaker 9: Jacoby.
- 41:31Speaker 8: Brissett and Drake may to come out and say that
- 41:35Speaker 8: that was you know, that's on Jacoby, like you could,
- 41:37Speaker 8: but I didn't. Brady always talks about snapping the ball
- 41:41Speaker 8: into a defense that it's gonna the play is gonna work. Right,
- 41:43Speaker 8: That play had no chance of working in my mind.
- 41:47Speaker 8: You know your four down, you have the the end
- 41:49Speaker 8: is closer to the line of scrimmage and hand in
- 41:51Speaker 8: the dirt.
- 41:52Speaker 7: I just it's very un defense and ends up in
- 41:55Speaker 7: the backfield. So ends up bumping him, knocking into Jamichael Hasty,
- 41:59Speaker 7: and no one touches the guy who ended up killing
- 42:01Speaker 7: right percent. There was like a there was a variety
- 42:05Speaker 7: of things that seemed out of position on that plug.
- 42:08Speaker 8: It was actually a screen to Jeane Bell, it was
- 42:11Speaker 8: a it was a play action tight end screen.
- 42:13Speaker 5: Matt would have lost it like that.
- 42:15Speaker 7: If that ends up getting completed for like twenty yards,
- 42:17Speaker 7: Matt's already Matt's already got Jeem Bell based on his catch.
- 42:22Speaker 8: Try try forty five yard touchdown. There was nobody on
- 42:25Speaker 8: the other side of the field if they actually got
- 42:28Speaker 8: it off that that That was one thing that you
- 42:30Speaker 8: looked at at the overhead is you know they ran the.
- 42:32Speaker 9: Receiver that was on that side of the field.
- 42:34Speaker 7: So I sacked on the screen is beyond inexcusable. Yeah,
- 42:38Speaker 7: that's beyond inexcusable. Getting sacked on a screen and he
- 42:41Speaker 7: had no shot and it was not on Jacoby unless
- 42:44Speaker 7: it was like what you're saying, Yeah, he needed to
- 42:45Speaker 7: fix that pre snap.
- 42:46Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, all right. Eight five to five Pats five
- 42:49Speaker 2: hundred is the a stick and hotline. Eight five five
- 42:51Speaker 2: Pats five hundred web radio at patries dot com as
- 42:54Speaker 2: the email address. We were talking before the show little
- 42:57Speaker 2: NFL news that they're talking now about and they've been
- 43:01Speaker 2: talking about allowing private equity firms to invest in teams.
- 43:06Speaker 2: Of course, you know that would give the owners some
- 43:09Speaker 2: liquid asset, some liquidity up front, but it could. I
- 43:13Speaker 2: don't know how they would do it, but it could.
- 43:14Speaker 7: If you are a fan, you could also take a
- 43:18Speaker 7: pay cut and that would give a little liquidity.
- 43:19Speaker 2: Well, sure, there you go liquid If you're a fan
- 43:21Speaker 2: and you're invested in this private equity firm, if they
- 43:25Speaker 2: create some fun, maybe you could have a part ownership.
- 43:28Speaker 3: And a team get controlling interest.
- 43:30Speaker 2: In the I don't know controlling interest. I think I
- 43:33Speaker 2: think you're controlling interest something like that.
- 43:37Speaker 7: If we if like Paul, you get controlling interest like Paul,
- 43:41Speaker 7: we're a little concerned. You really don't have anybody that's
- 43:44Speaker 7: over like two hundred and fifty pounds, Like what do
- 43:46Speaker 7: you do?
- 43:47Speaker 3: It's interesting, though, because you feel like private equity firms
- 43:49Speaker 3: are trying to you know, make money, and you know
- 43:52Speaker 3: they're gonna get a little slice of it. But it
- 43:53Speaker 3: almost seems more like you're doing it to be part
- 43:56Speaker 3: of it, because you're not really going to make I.
- 43:58Speaker 2: Think it's a little dangerous yea, honestly, because, like you said,
- 44:01Speaker 2: private equity firms, their only motivation is to make money.
- 44:05Speaker 2: Now you can say, well, yeah, but if the team
- 44:07Speaker 2: is good, then they make more money.
- 44:10Speaker 5: Not necessarily.
- 44:11Speaker 2: Yeah, look at the Celtics, Well they're good.
- 44:14Speaker 10: I know.
- 44:15Speaker 5: Yeah, a, you're making money.
- 44:18Speaker 2: But their valuation has gone up so much for different reasons.
- 44:24Speaker 7: But yes, yes, anyway, But I'm saying, like when you're
- 44:29Speaker 7: paying a bunch of guys like Max dollars, there's a
- 44:34Speaker 7: big debt coming and that's why they're getting out.
- 44:37Speaker 2: No, that's not why.
- 44:41Speaker 5: Let's just say I'm not just making that up me too.
- 44:43Speaker 2: Let's just say I know some things, they.
- 44:47Speaker 7: Get some things going on. Yeah, and I'll bet you
- 44:49Speaker 7: Robert would have no interest in no, but that kind
- 44:52Speaker 7: of a debt. But they also taking on that kind.
- 44:54Speaker 2: They also can't afford to just give it. He can't
- 44:57Speaker 2: afford the owner to give it to his kids. Because
- 44:59Speaker 2: they can't afford were the appreciation.
- 45:01Speaker 3: Tax, you know, like, so they have to sell it,
- 45:04Speaker 3: ye billionaire problems, and.
- 45:07Speaker 2: That's because the valuation of the team has going up.
- 45:09Speaker 5: Anyway, they're gonna get six billion dollars for the Celtics,
- 45:12Speaker 5: but they're gonna try.
- 45:13Speaker 9: They go pretty pretty close.
- 45:15Speaker 2: I mean, the latest valuation of the Patriots is seven billion,
- 45:18Speaker 2: which is like, it's unbelievable. If I were the Crafts,
- 45:22Speaker 2: I'd be tempted to sell it.
- 45:23Speaker 5: I have to tell say that, well, I got some
- 45:25Speaker 5: time I left here.
- 45:26Speaker 2: Bro I know, we wish that, we hope that never
- 45:28Speaker 2: ever ever happens, but like, well, I mean yeah, but
- 45:32Speaker 2: personally bought it. You bought it for one hundred and
- 45:36Speaker 2: seventy some odd million dollars and now seven billion. That's crazy.
- 45:43Speaker 2: That's crazy.
- 45:43Speaker 9: Sounds like a lot of money.
- 45:44Speaker 3: It's a big twinkie put money in the stock market.
- 45:48Speaker 4: You know.
- 45:49Speaker 3: Lane's always mad. And when they were when she was
- 45:50Speaker 3: in middle school, they did like a exercise like find
- 45:52Speaker 3: a company to put money into, and she found like Apple,
- 45:55Speaker 3: you know, in like the eighties, and she was always like,
- 45:57Speaker 3: man if I just put money in Apple at that point,
- 45:59Speaker 3: right for I don't know, can't I tell.
- 46:04Speaker 2: You, though, if you want to put money in, go
- 46:08Speaker 2: to Bob's Discount Furniture. This needs something to do before

- 46:55Speaker 2: easy to drink, it's easy to enjoy. Bud Light, the
- 46:59Speaker 2: official sponsor of the New England Patriots.
- 47:02Speaker 3: I just I got him dying to hear what you
- 47:04Speaker 3: guys think about Juju going back to the Chiefs, because
- 47:06Speaker 3: I just I feel like I'm so fascinated to see
- 47:08Speaker 3: what that looks like like kN Patrick Mahomes like resurrect
- 47:12Speaker 3: the ghost of Juju Smith Schuster, who to me just
- 47:15Speaker 3: looks like he is done. He can't run anymore, he
- 47:18Speaker 3: can't really catch the ball anymore. Like if he goes
- 47:20Speaker 3: there and actually is productive, like I'm going to have
- 47:23Speaker 3: like a crisis, like do you think he's gonna be
- 47:26Speaker 3: any goods productive to you? I don't like if he
- 47:29Speaker 3: plays if they put him out there, like if they
- 47:31Speaker 3: put him on the field, I think.
- 47:32Speaker 5: He's insurance in case they lose what's his face?
- 47:36Speaker 7: Rashi Rice through it right, like a suspense tension, and
- 47:40Speaker 7: maybe they're not okay, completely comfortable because I think Hollywood
- 47:44Speaker 7: Brown's hurt. I think wash Rice they think could have
- 47:47Speaker 7: a shoe drop on them. And they just want a
- 47:49Speaker 7: guy who so.
- 47:50Speaker 3: It's not from this year, just like a d is
- 47:53Speaker 3: it No?
- 47:53Speaker 5: Not a d Mitchell?
- 47:54Speaker 7: They Xavier A Worthy Worthy and Sky Moore I think
- 47:59Speaker 7: would be like their best two receivers.
- 48:01Speaker 5: In that case that's not enough.
- 48:02Speaker 3: I kind of wanted to say, I just want one
- 48:04Speaker 3: there with Patrick, like any Patrick Mahomes' is like ten
- 48:06Speaker 3: passes to Juju when he's like.
- 48:09Speaker 7: Not necessarily Patriot current Patriots related. But it looks like
- 48:12Speaker 7: old friend Mac Jones has won the backup job because CJ.
- 48:17Speaker 7: Bether got hurt. He's was released with an injury settlement. Okay,
- 48:20Speaker 7: so mac Jones is probably QB two.
- 48:23Speaker 2: You think he would have won it anyway?
- 48:25Speaker 5: It sounds like he would have.
- 48:26Speaker 7: Yeah, but it was I guess it was pretty close
- 48:29Speaker 7: all summer and now Bethar got hurt.
- 48:32Speaker 5: So I don't know how much that affected, you know,
- 48:35Speaker 5: I just don't.
- 48:35Speaker 3: Get all the Max stuff like I saw. You know,
- 48:36Speaker 3: we had a good preseason, but like everything I saw
- 48:39Speaker 3: from him were things that he showed with the Patriots.
- 48:41Speaker 3: It wasn't like all of a sudden he looked different
- 48:43Speaker 3: to me.
- 48:43Speaker 5: Can we talk about something that I found interesting?
- 48:46Speaker 11: What's that?
- 48:46Speaker 5: Do you see that comment from Doug Peterson?
- 48:50Speaker 3: Did you see what his walk back was?
- 48:51Speaker 5: I know, But unfortunately, when you clarify it, like days later,
- 48:55Speaker 5: you realize, oh, I shouldn't have said that, and you.
- 48:58Speaker 9: Come up with a not solo evable what did you
- 49:01Speaker 9: tell people?
- 49:02Speaker 7: So he said, you know, he was talking in positive
- 49:05Speaker 7: terms about mac Jones this summer doing some things well, throwing.
- 49:09Speaker 7: He still once in a while, he still had that
- 49:10Speaker 7: goes back into patriot mode or goes back to his
- 49:13Speaker 7: Patriots days. Patriots, he reverts to his patriots ways. And
- 49:21Speaker 7: you know, evidently there are media contingents that are worse
- 49:24Speaker 7: than than ours. No one asked him what that meant, right,
- 49:28Speaker 7: and then I guess he clarified it days later with.
- 49:32Speaker 3: With like the terminology and you know, getting yeah he was.
- 49:35Speaker 5: He was saying, sure, that's what he was talking about.
- 49:37Speaker 8: They were saying like he was giving hand signals that
- 49:39Speaker 8: were Patriots hand signals but not Jaguars hand signals. You
- 49:44Speaker 8: guys believe that in a little bit, a little bit, Yeah,
- 49:48Speaker 8: I do.
- 49:48Speaker 5: I believe it was a shot.
- 49:50Speaker 8: Yeah it could have been, but I do believe that that.
- 49:53Speaker 8: I mean, it happens all the time that you are.
- 49:55Speaker 8: It's like, you know, people that speak the English is
- 49:58Speaker 8: their second language, and so in your head you're you're
- 50:01Speaker 8: speaking Spanish, but in your and you have to speak
- 50:03Speaker 8: in English.
- 50:04Speaker 10: You know.
- 50:04Speaker 2: You know, for a quarterback that goes from one team,
- 50:06Speaker 2: I'm sure that happened. That happens a lot, but you
- 50:09Speaker 2: don't often here coaches say, oh.
- 50:12Speaker 7: They're correct, it would be you know, he's negative you know,
- 50:15Speaker 7: he's still picking up our system. He still goes back
- 50:18Speaker 7: to some of the terminology he was familiar with. You
- 50:20Speaker 7: don't say that not reverting to his Patriots ways, that's
- 50:23Speaker 7: a negative. Reverting to bad ways.
- 50:26Speaker 5: Yeah, like, yeah, I think he was talking about he's
- 50:29Speaker 5: got to be the smartest guy in the room.
- 50:31Speaker 2: Stems, you know, most Yeah, that kind of stuff. I agree.
- 50:35Speaker 2: All right. A couple a couple more.
- 50:40Speaker 8: Calvin Anderson with an injury settlement injury designation and Jonathan Russell,
- 50:46Speaker 8: a IPP player, both cuts and were down to sixty
- 50:51Speaker 8: three sixty one.
- 50:52Speaker 2: If these reports are accurate, correct, Yeah, yeah, yes, okay,
- 50:57Speaker 2: all right, we'll take a break, we'll come back. We'll
- 50:59Speaker 2: get to your calls. We'll get to your emails. They
- 51:01Speaker 2: see the emails coming in, thank you. We'll get to
- 51:04Speaker 2: all of that right after this.

- 51:39Speaker 13: Thanks staceym g to just listen to you on the radio,
- 51:43Speaker 13: And just wanted to follow up on one thing, just
- 51:45Speaker 13: on the long quote there on the Jacoby and Drake
- 51:50Speaker 13: about and I think at this current point Drake has
- 51:55Speaker 13: outplayed Jacoby. I just wanted to ask you the context
- 51:57Speaker 13: of that. You know, yeah, I would say, you know,
- 52:01Speaker 13: it just starts.
- 52:02Speaker 11: It starts in.
- 52:02Speaker 14: Practice and also in the game where you know Drake
- 52:05Speaker 14: has played better now in saying that, you know, everyone
- 52:09Speaker 14: wants to know, like who the starter is going to be.
- 52:11Speaker 14: I think there are multiple factors that kind of have
- 52:14Speaker 14: to go into this decision. One is the total body
- 52:17Speaker 14: of work, whether we're talking about the spring or the
- 52:20Speaker 14: entirety of training camp. And then I will also say,
- 52:23Speaker 14: oftentimes we forget about just the overall experience that a
- 52:26Speaker 14: guy like Jacobe has, which will also be waited in
- 52:29Speaker 14: the decision that we have to make here in the
- 52:31Speaker 14: near future.
- 52:32Speaker 11: But I'm happy with the way those guys.
- 52:34Speaker 14: Are, you know, battling it out and hopefully over you know,
- 52:37Speaker 14: over the next couple of days, we can name a
- 52:39Speaker 14: starter and get the season rolling.
- 52:41Speaker 11: In just one quick followup trouble, when when did that
- 52:43Speaker 11: start to turn in your view?
- 52:46Speaker 13: Was there one point that that stood out where he
- 52:48Speaker 13: started to outplay him?
- 52:50Speaker 2: I don't.
- 52:50Speaker 14: I don't have just a certain time. What I will say, it's,
- 52:54Speaker 14: you know, just I would say there's a combination. Well, really,
- 52:57Speaker 14: it's one thing. It's just Drake becoming more comfortable with
- 53:00Speaker 14: the scheme and more comfortable with the players around him.
- 53:02Speaker 11: So he's done a good job with that. I can't
- 53:05Speaker 11: remember a certain point though, Mike. Sorry. The next question
- 53:12Speaker 11: the College followed by Chris Ryan.
- 53:15Speaker 4: Good morning, Drod Moarning does on this morning as well,
- 53:19Speaker 4: and you said that, you know, we've all seen rookie
- 53:21Speaker 4: quarterbacks thrown to the wolves too early. Is that just
- 53:25Speaker 4: in reference to playing before they're ready, or being in
- 53:29Speaker 4: a Pugnan situation where there's an offensive line they can't
- 53:33Speaker 4: protect them, or or something else.
- 53:35Speaker 14: I think I think every situation is unique, because you know,
- 53:38Speaker 14: I don't want to fall into this narrative fallacy or
- 53:41Speaker 14: anything like that, because you have seen, you know, rookie
- 53:43Speaker 14: quarterbasketball out there and perform at a high level. And
- 53:47Speaker 14: I don't know what the story you know, how the
- 53:49Speaker 14: story ends with Droit's rookie season, But all possibilities are
- 53:53Speaker 14: open and we'll see what happens as far as like
- 53:55Speaker 14: who we didn't start a hearing in your future?
- 53:58Speaker 11: Another quick one.
- 53:59Speaker 4: And I know that roster cuts are coming up here,
- 54:01Speaker 4: But has there been a decision made whether Kendrick Bourne,
- 54:05Speaker 4: Ony Talk Talkie and Cole Strange will begin the season
- 54:08Speaker 4: on Pop?
- 54:10Speaker 11: Yeah, there have been those decisions.
- 54:12Speaker 14: I'd rather just wait to get those to you and
- 54:15Speaker 14: hold because there would have been decisions on a few Slayers,
- 54:18Speaker 14: just not all of them.
- 54:19Speaker 6: Thank you, Thank you, Chris Ryan, forward to Cornea.
- 54:26Speaker 11: Chris, how are you? It just started to start some
- 54:30Speaker 11: of the game where you know better than that. Try
- 54:35Speaker 11: to find it there, guy. So it's Henry, It's Henry.
- 54:38Speaker 11: I know it's Henry by bad Sorry.
- 54:44Speaker 15: All right, just kind of back to the quarterback situation
- 54:48Speaker 15: for Sick. You mentioned that if Jacoby is the choice,
- 54:51Speaker 15: it could be based upon experience. How do you determine,
- 54:55Speaker 15: you know, what is the right time for Drake to
- 54:58Speaker 15: you know, to get that get that experience. If in
- 55:00Speaker 15: fact he's you know, won the competition, kind of a
- 55:03Speaker 15: why not now type of question order from to gain
- 55:06Speaker 15: that appropriate experience.
- 55:08Speaker 14: Yeah, when when I spoke, when I spoke about experience,
- 55:11Speaker 14: I just wanted to make sure that you guys had
- 55:13Speaker 14: transparency as far as the different factors that go into
- 55:16Speaker 14: making this decision.
- 55:18Speaker 11: You know, it's no secret that Jakobe's been in the
- 55:20Speaker 11: league for a long time.
- 55:22Speaker 14: Uh And at the same time, I will say Drake
- 55:23Speaker 14: has been performing well here over the last few weeks.
- 55:26Speaker 14: So I just wanted to make sure that you guys
- 55:28Speaker 14: knew the different factors that go into, uh naming a
- 55:31Speaker 14: starting quarterback.
- 55:33Speaker 15: And just kind of falling up on that, how do
- 55:36Speaker 15: you kind of go about determining when is the right
- 55:39Speaker 15: time for Drake?
- 55:40Speaker 11: If it's not you know right now, you.
- 55:45Speaker 14: Know that's something to think about going forward. It could
- 55:47Speaker 14: be you know, a lack of performance on the offense
- 55:49Speaker 14: as a whole. It could be that it can be injury.
- 55:53Speaker 14: It could be so many different things. And that's why
- 55:54Speaker 14: it's hard right now to do all of those different
- 55:58Speaker 14: scenarios where if Kobe was to start, when Drake will
- 56:01Speaker 14: be ready to get in the game and things like that.
- 56:03Speaker 14: So it's a it's a very I don't want to
- 56:05Speaker 14: say a unique situation, but it's a it's a case
- 56:08Speaker 14: within itself where I just don't I just don't know
- 56:12Speaker 14: at this current time.
- 56:13Speaker 11: Thank you, Thank you the quarterin Rod, good morning.
- 56:19Speaker 4: I want to ask, but the offensive line, the group
- 56:22Speaker 4: we saw last night, other than Nick being in for David,
- 56:24Speaker 4: is that the group you'd like to continue over the
- 56:26Speaker 4: next two weeks before you get.
- 56:28Speaker 11: To Cincinnati or you know where do things sort of
- 56:30Speaker 11: stand on that unit?
- 56:31Speaker 14: Yeah, we're still have some time to figure out, you know,
- 56:34Speaker 14: what the best combination is. I would say those guys
- 56:38Speaker 14: pre snap penalties aside, there were definitely times where that
- 56:42Speaker 14: union out there did a pretty good job for the
- 56:45Speaker 14: quarterback and also especially in the run game. Anytime you
- 56:47Speaker 14: average over five yards to carry, I mean, it's a
- 56:49Speaker 14: good it's a good day in the run game. Now
- 56:52Speaker 14: I'm saying that, I'm not sure you know what the
- 56:54Speaker 14: exact combination looks like, but we got it at four
- 56:57Speaker 14: o'clock this morning, and still kind of you know, crank
- 56:59Speaker 14: into the film, but we'll have a group ready to
- 57:02Speaker 14: go for Cincy.
- 57:03Speaker 11: And when it comes to cuts, will you guys start
- 57:05Speaker 11: that process today or do it tomorrow.
- 57:08Speaker 14: You know, that's a conversation I'm gonna have with Elliott.
- 57:11Speaker 14: We spoke a little bit about it last night, how
- 57:13Speaker 14: we wanted to approach it. We're both uh, we're both rookies,
- 57:17Speaker 14: rookies in the game, and it'll probably start, you know,
- 57:21Speaker 14: sometime here soon.
- 57:22Speaker 10: Thank you, Chris, Hey Drod here you go on the
- 57:30Speaker 10: offensive line, Just wondering that, given the issues at center,
- 57:34Speaker 10: would you would all consider trying Cold Strange out at
- 57:36Speaker 10: center when he's ready to come back.
- 57:39Speaker 14: Yeah, I mean that was always a possibility, you know
- 57:41Speaker 14: when he when we drafted Cole was that he did
- 57:44Speaker 14: have that flex to be able to go in there
- 57:46Speaker 14: and snap and saying that I'm not sure when Cole
- 57:49Speaker 14: will be ready to go.
- 57:50Speaker 11: That's where the medical professionals and Cole to design.
- 57:53Speaker 14: But if he's healthy, he'll definitely, uh, he'll definitely get
- 57:56Speaker 14: some of those those opportunities.
- 57:59Speaker 10: I guess what about him, you know, makes him potentially
- 58:03Speaker 10: intriguing option at center because I know that you know,
- 58:05Speaker 10: there are a lot of evaluators before the draft who
- 58:07Speaker 10: thought he could play center.
- 58:08Speaker 11: In the pros.
- 58:09Speaker 14: Yeah, I would say's overall athleticism He's one of those
- 58:12Speaker 14: guys that you know, even though he's a bigger guy,
- 58:14Speaker 14: he can move and he can move bodies, so he's
- 58:18Speaker 14: a He's a very athletic offensive lineman in my opinion.
- 58:21Speaker 11: Thank you, thanks appreciate so far by Bob Souci.
- 58:27Speaker 16: More than draft moren Chris, So, I've heard you and
- 58:31Speaker 16: Elliott kind of repeatedly point to having the number three
- 58:34Speaker 16: waiver claim coming up here. Do you guys expect to
- 58:37Speaker 16: be active on the trade market in the next thirty
- 58:39Speaker 16: six hours or so, or are you more just kind
- 58:41Speaker 16: of good with having the high waiver claim there?
- 58:44Speaker 14: You know, I don't want to like overshoot anything as
- 58:46Speaker 14: far as like the waiver wire. We're always looking for
- 58:49Speaker 14: ways to improve the roster. And I would say, you know,
- 58:52Speaker 14: between the Elliott and myself, we're on the same page.
- 58:55Speaker 11: Whether it's through trades or waiver wire or whatever else.
- 58:57Speaker 14: It is getting it off the street, which is always
- 58:59Speaker 14: in the mind instead of how do we get this
- 59:01Speaker 14: roster better?
- 59:02Speaker 11: Uh, and how do we continue to improve as a
- 59:05Speaker 11: team going forward.
- 59:06Speaker 16: Have there been any intriguing trade offers or anything over
- 59:09Speaker 16: the last couple of days.
- 59:12Speaker 14: That's an Elliot question. He only brings me the uh,
- 59:15Speaker 14: the ones that are that are pretty important.
- 59:17Speaker 10: So thanks Ro, thank you your final up questions Bob
- 59:21Speaker 10: so C, Mike Gobob, Thanks day.
- 59:24Speaker 11: Good morning, John Dreda.
- 59:27Speaker 6: I want to ask you again about the overall experience
- 59:29Speaker 6: in Jacoby's longevity tenure in the league.
- 59:33Speaker 11: For context on that, is that related.
- 59:35Speaker 6: To the seeing a variety of schemes playing in you know,
- 59:41Speaker 6: adverse conditions on the road. What goes into the importance
- 59:45Speaker 6: of that experience in longevity.
- 59:47Speaker 11: I would say all of the above, Bob.
- 59:50Speaker 14: You know, whether it's a you know, a road game
- 59:52Speaker 14: and a tough environment, whether you know, just going out
- 59:56Speaker 14: there leading teams to victory, those are all things that
- 59:59Speaker 14: are important. And once again I just wanted to be
- 1:00:01Speaker 14: very transparent about just the different, let's call it critical
- 1:00:04Speaker 14: factors that have to go into this decision going forward
- 1:00:07Speaker 14: and naming the starting quarterback.
- 1:00:09Speaker 6: I think we just quick fall up on a different positions,
- 1:00:11Speaker 6: the kicking situation. What do you want in a place kicker.
- 1:00:15Speaker 6: We saw obviously Joey get the attempts last night from
- 1:00:17Speaker 6: very long distance at the end of each half. When
- 1:00:20Speaker 6: you make the decision on that position, if it hasn't
- 1:00:22Speaker 6: been made already. What do you want as a head coach.
- 1:00:25Speaker 14: Yeah, we just want someone that's steady, someone that you
- 1:00:29Speaker 14: know can make the you know, just all the field goals.
- 1:00:32Speaker 14: So give me one hundred percent kicker, someone who could
- 1:00:35Speaker 14: kick the ball through the upright. It's one hundred percent
- 1:00:37Speaker 14: of the time. But that competition, you know, it's been
- 1:00:40Speaker 14: going on in all training camp and it's definitely anytime
- 1:00:43Speaker 14: you have the ability to score points or a player
- 1:00:45Speaker 14: on your team that could score points, this is an
- 1:00:47Speaker 14: important spot. And you know this league is it's all
- 1:00:50Speaker 14: about you know, it comes down down to the wire
- 1:00:52Speaker 14: a lot of the times, and you got to have
- 1:00:53Speaker 14: a kicker that you can trust and depend depending on.
- 1:00:55Speaker 17: When someone accidentally threw away the school play costumes, no
- 1:01:00Speaker 17: replacements were shipped with FedEx and with picture proof of delivery,
- 1:01:04Speaker 17: everyone could focus on the perfect opening night FedEx where
- 1:01:08Speaker 17: now it's next for residential delivery.
- 1:01:10Speaker 5: Only and now great moments in.
- 1:01:16Speaker 11: History.
- 1:01:17Speaker 8: My point was, like Alex is just saying that you
- 1:01:19Speaker 8: can't You couldn't imagine to an eight and either could have.
- 1:01:22Speaker 8: That's I couldn't have either, because I thought that at
- 1:01:24Speaker 8: the very worst, they would just.
- 1:01:26Speaker 5: Be to think I'm really I am negative and I
- 1:01:29Speaker 5: don't ever think of that, but I don't. I don't
- 1:01:32Speaker 5: think I don't that.
- 1:01:34Speaker 8: But but you said seven wins is their ceiling, right, Yeah,
- 1:01:37Speaker 8: And I don't necessarily disagree with that.
- 1:01:39Speaker 9: They're not going to get to seven wins.
- 1:01:41Speaker 5: But when if everything fell in in other words, if
- 1:01:43Speaker 5: they stayed healthy, everything fell in place, but everybody was
- 1:01:47Speaker 5: hurt close the other teams got hurt, and you didn't like,
- 1:01:49Speaker 5: maybe you could win seven games. That's how I felt
- 1:01:52Speaker 5: about this team.
- 1:01:53Speaker 9: I don't, but I don't necessarily disagree with that.
- 1:01:55Speaker 8: If they're two and eight, Paul, like there, I thought,
- 1:01:57Speaker 8: win the four games, that's going to be a lot.
- 1:02:00Speaker 3: I didn't think the offense could get worse.
- 1:02:02Speaker 5: Than I didn't think that I would. I would, that's
- 1:02:05Speaker 5: the sign, But that's I didn't think the offense could
- 1:02:07Speaker 5: be worse than it was.
- 1:02:08Speaker 3: And my question is just I think we all kind
- 1:02:10Speaker 3: of agree that, like six, I feel like we said
- 1:02:12Speaker 3: a lot. Six six wins feels like the floor for
- 1:02:14Speaker 3: this team. Like he's too good a coach to not
- 1:02:17Speaker 3: get them six wins. Why aren't we the six wins
- 1:02:19Speaker 3: this year?
- 1:02:19Speaker 11: You know?
- 1:02:20Speaker 7: Yeah, I would have said it's like, see I would
- 1:02:23Speaker 7: I know you think I'm probably lying, but I'm not either,
- 1:02:28Speaker 7: because I think there's some teams that they could be
- 1:02:31Speaker 7: just like the last couple of games they played, they
- 1:02:33Speaker 7: could have won.
- 1:02:34Speaker 9: That would be a big mistake.
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: That's another great moment from.
- 1:02:40Speaker 2: All right back here on Patriots Unfiltered. A five to
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: five pass five hundred is the A stickn outline web
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: radio at Patriots dot com is the email address. We
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: got a lot of emails. Will clear out the phones here. Uh, Todd,
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: North Carolina's been holding on for quite a while. What's up, Todd?
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: Todd has been holding on for quite a while? And
- 1:02:59Speaker 2: gay up? Okay, No, no worries, No worries. How about
- 1:03:03Speaker 2: Daniel from Sacramento? What's up Daniel?
- 1:03:08Speaker 5: Yeah, you guys are doing okay.
- 1:03:11Speaker 18: So the question I wanted to ask what it's.
- 1:03:14Speaker 19: Kind of just like something that you guys were saying
- 1:03:16Speaker 19: before a couple of weeks ago. I know the old
- 1:03:21Speaker 19: line is bad, it's and it's it's very scary throwing
- 1:03:24Speaker 19: Drake in there. So I remember you guys talking. Maybe
- 1:03:29Speaker 19: maybe week five could be like a good hitting spot
- 1:03:31Speaker 19: for him to come in. I don't see the harm
- 1:03:34Speaker 19: in a quarterback sitting I would, trust me. I'm one
- 1:03:36Speaker 19: of those guys. I want Drake to start week one.
- 1:03:38Speaker 19: I want, I want it to happen, But I don't
- 1:03:41Speaker 19: see the harm at all. You can bring any harm
- 1:03:43Speaker 19: to a rookie just him sitting for a little bit.
- 1:03:47Speaker 19: But with that said, what what do you guys realistically
- 1:03:51Speaker 19: Because I know we're probably not gonna make the playoffs
- 1:03:53Speaker 19: or anything, but what is realistic record? If Drake May
- 1:03:55Speaker 19: is playing either week one or week five, what do
- 1:03:57Speaker 19: you think the ending record is if the defense is
- 1:03:59Speaker 19: playing good. I know it's a hard question because our
- 1:04:02Speaker 19: offense is very unproven with the new offense coordinator, but
- 1:04:06Speaker 19: just yeah, basically, just a question is what do you
- 1:04:09Speaker 19: think our record would be him starting week one or
- 1:04:11Speaker 19: week five?
- 1:04:12Speaker 2: They could take it off their guys think, okay, so
- 1:04:14Speaker 2: what's the Is there any difference if he starts week
- 1:04:17Speaker 2: one or week five in the record.
- 1:04:19Speaker 9: I think it's hard to say it because I just
- 1:04:21Speaker 9: you don't know.
- 1:04:22Speaker 2: I know it's hard to say, but that's why it's
- 1:04:23Speaker 2: a good question.
- 1:04:24Speaker 3: Uh why I would say. I mean, look, he's not
- 1:04:27Speaker 3: going to probably get in week five if they haven't
- 1:04:29Speaker 3: lost four of the five at least, right, I mean,
- 1:04:31Speaker 3: at they're four, if they've already got four wins, then
- 1:04:33Speaker 3: he's probably not going to play. So I don't know.
- 1:04:36Speaker 3: I mean, it's probably one or two wins difference.
- 1:04:39Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 1:04:39Speaker 3: I'm not really sure how to answer the question. I
- 1:04:41Speaker 3: just think they're gonna win.
- 1:04:42Speaker 7: I mean, I think his point is they're probably not
- 1:04:45Speaker 7: going to win like those games. They're probably not going
- 1:04:47Speaker 7: to beat Cincinnati, San Francisco and the Jets. I think
- 1:04:50Speaker 7: people look at Seattle it's sort of a toss.
- 1:04:53Speaker 5: Up kind of game. I think that's his point. Yeah,
- 1:04:56Speaker 5: without saying it's so I'm.
- 1:04:58Speaker 7: Extrapolating, and again I'm be reading too much into this,
- 1:05:01Speaker 7: but I think he's thinking, what's the difference? Why not
- 1:05:03Speaker 7: just wait, I think you can oh that difference okay,
- 1:05:08Speaker 7: like not the difference in the record. No, he's asking
- 1:05:10Speaker 7: you what would the record be? And I think he's
- 1:05:12Speaker 7: looking for someone to say one in three with or
- 1:05:16Speaker 7: without Drake May. Yeah, So to his point, like, well,
- 1:05:20Speaker 7: if you were going to be four and oh with
- 1:05:22Speaker 7: Drake May and one and three with percent, then I
- 1:05:24Speaker 7: think people would say, well, start May. But I don't
- 1:05:26Speaker 7: think anybody thinks that, Yeah, but I.
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: Don't think that's why people want us. I don't think
- 1:05:32Speaker 2: winning more games to start the season is why people
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: who want me to start are saying that. I think
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: they're saying it is because they want his development to
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: be corrected.
- 1:05:41Speaker 7: And I think you can stunt a development by not
- 1:05:43Speaker 7: playing them. Yeah, I think it's a small little possibility,
- 1:05:47Speaker 7: much like you can ruin a quarterback that playing him
- 1:05:49Speaker 7: too soon, small little possibility.
- 1:05:51Speaker 5: I don't dismiss it. I think that both of those
- 1:05:53Speaker 5: things could happen.
- 1:05:55Speaker 8: Yeah, I'd be more worried about him being ruined by playing. Honestly,
- 1:06:01Speaker 8: He's come a long way with his fundamentals, and like
- 1:06:03Speaker 8: with his mechanics, his footwork is is night and day better.
- 1:06:07Speaker 8: And as much as I don't want to give them
- 1:06:09Speaker 8: too many flowers before they play a regular season game,
- 1:06:12Speaker 8: this coaching staff takes a lot of heat, and the
- 1:06:14Speaker 8: Hires took a lot of heat, and I gotta be honest,
- 1:06:17Speaker 8: I think they've done a great job with him so
- 1:06:19Speaker 8: far in terms of his mechanics. His feet are night
- 1:06:24Speaker 8: and day from where they were in college. Now it's
- 1:06:26Speaker 8: preseason and we'll see if it carries over into regular
- 1:06:29Speaker 8: season games. But the little things that he's still working
- 1:06:31Speaker 8: on from a minutia standpoint, like him drifting in the pocket.
- 1:06:36Speaker 8: If you start drifting in the pocket and you have
- 1:06:38Speaker 8: Trey Hendrickson coming off your edge, that's a lot different
- 1:06:41Speaker 8: than a third string defensive end coming off your edge.
- 1:06:44Speaker 8: Like those things can invite pressure and put you into
- 1:06:47Speaker 8: harm's way. I still feel like he ducks the ball.
- 1:06:50Speaker 8: They say that they don't care about his throwing motion,
- 1:06:53Speaker 8: but to me, he still ducks the ball. And you know,
- 1:06:57Speaker 8: in the throat of pulk on the crossing route, the
- 1:06:59Speaker 8: defense is like this close from knocking the ball out
- 1:07:02Speaker 8: of his hands because he's carrying it so low.
- 1:07:05Speaker 2: Uh.
- 1:07:05Speaker 8: Those are like the little things that he's still working through.
- 1:07:08Speaker 8: And you just worry that if now, all of a sudden,
- 1:07:10Speaker 8: he gets into a game and it's a forty five
- 1:07:12Speaker 8: percent pressure rate and he's constantly under duress, now he's
- 1:07:16Speaker 8: gonna develop bad habits and it's going.
- 1:07:18Speaker 9: To start to break on him.
- 1:07:19Speaker 8: So all the progress that they've made with his mechanics
- 1:07:22Speaker 8: could go out out the door of Big Loo and McDonald.
- 1:07:25Speaker 9: They're coming after him in weeks one and two.
- 1:07:28Speaker 8: The Jets in week three two, I mean yeah, and
- 1:07:30Speaker 8: Nick Bosa in week four yeah right.
- 1:07:32Speaker 5: Rough four games, yeah yeah, and we'll get him back
- 1:07:35Speaker 5: in time for Bradley Chubb to come off for you.
- 1:07:40Speaker 3: There's no Easy's not going to be easy.
- 1:07:42Speaker 9: No, there isn't.
- 1:07:43Speaker 8: I I am surprised though, that they that they don't
- 1:07:46Speaker 8: care about the throwing motion a little bit.
- 1:07:49Speaker 9: I've asked him about.
- 1:07:50Speaker 8: It like two or three times when we've had the
- 1:07:51Speaker 8: assistance available, and they they keep saying that as long
- 1:07:55Speaker 8: as he's getting the ball where it needs to go,
- 1:07:57Speaker 8: Like they look at it more from like an act.
- 1:07:59Speaker 2: They talk about their throw motion. They're talking about the
- 1:08:01Speaker 2: wind up right.
- 1:08:01Speaker 8: Yes, yeah, So he has like a long wind up
- 1:08:07Speaker 8: and he dips the ball below his waist when he
- 1:08:09Speaker 8: winds up, so it goes below and defenders when they
- 1:08:13Speaker 8: come around in the corner, they're gonna start swiping at
- 1:08:16Speaker 8: his arm.
- 1:08:17Speaker 5: It's one of the things that I don't It's one
- 1:08:19Speaker 5: of the what is he like.
- 1:08:23Speaker 2: He does.
- 1:08:25Speaker 8: And he moves I do like that, Like when he
- 1:08:26Speaker 8: moves around the pocket, he keeps two hands on at
- 1:08:29Speaker 8: eyes downfield, good poise, but he just he does dip
- 1:08:33Speaker 8: the ball.
- 1:08:33Speaker 7: So it's one of the things that I still see
- 1:08:35Speaker 7: that I am concerned about is that reload and when
- 1:08:39Speaker 7: you have that kind of you know, wind up with
- 1:08:43Speaker 7: the ball. He pumps a lot, and then when he
- 1:08:46Speaker 7: ends up throwing it, it's not the same thing again,
- 1:08:49Speaker 7: so it's a much different like just quick little throw.
- 1:08:53Speaker 7: Now he hit Hasty on the first player of the
- 1:08:55Speaker 7: second drive with a play like that, and Hasty picked
- 1:08:58Speaker 7: up an easy first down.
- 1:09:00Speaker 5: I just don't like. I looked at Mike, I said,
- 1:09:02Speaker 5: he's still doing it. I don't like that. Like that's
- 1:09:04Speaker 5: a play.
- 1:09:04Speaker 7: I think that's going to get him in trouble more
- 1:09:06Speaker 7: often than not when you don't like sort of reset
- 1:09:10Speaker 7: when you want to pump it and you're just kind
- 1:09:12Speaker 7: of like throwing it as an afterthought.
- 1:09:13Speaker 5: He's getting away with it.
- 1:09:14Speaker 3: Yeah, it's weird to me too, and some of them, Paul,
- 1:09:16Speaker 3: because it feels like he has the right idea and
- 1:09:19Speaker 3: he stops and then he's like no, yeah, and then
- 1:09:21Speaker 3: he because then he goes sidearm with you, and you know,
- 1:09:23Speaker 3: so it's almost like he's making up for the lost
- 1:09:26Speaker 3: time on this and now I got to hit the
- 1:09:27Speaker 3: guy over here.
- 1:09:28Speaker 5: That's exactly what it is.
- 1:09:29Speaker 3: I'm adjusting the arm angle, and I.
- 1:09:31Speaker 5: Can't go through my whole thing again because I won't
- 1:09:33Speaker 5: have time to do right.
- 1:09:34Speaker 8: And is it just throw it when you should throw it,
- 1:09:36Speaker 8: get it out, you know, the one to hasty. He
- 1:09:38Speaker 8: has like two stop routes like vertical stops. And I
- 1:09:41Speaker 8: thought Taekwon was was open and his shoe.
- 1:09:45Speaker 9: Fell off, like his shoe.
- 1:09:47Speaker 5: There's a lot of crap going on.
- 1:09:50Speaker 8: Can we can talk about why his shoe fell off,
- 1:09:51Speaker 8: But his shoe fell off, and I kind of thought, well,
- 1:09:55Speaker 8: like maybe he wasn't going to throw it fifteen yards
- 1:09:58Speaker 8: down the field without a shoe on, so so he
- 1:10:01Speaker 8: was just like, you know, like I could throw this
- 1:10:03Speaker 8: to Taekwon, but if I step into this and my
- 1:10:05Speaker 8: shoes off and like, you know whatever.
- 1:10:07Speaker 9: So, but the wind up is one thing.
- 1:10:10Speaker 8: And the drifting in the pocket I still think is
- 1:10:12Speaker 8: there at times, like with the throat to Pop Douglas
- 1:10:15Speaker 8: on the crossing ground. If you watch it from the
- 1:10:17Speaker 8: end zone angle, he's he's drifting with Pop Douglas like
- 1:10:20Speaker 8: as Pop is running across the field, Drake is going
- 1:10:24Speaker 8: let to his left and what happens is is, you know,
- 1:10:27Speaker 8: the the edge on the left hand side like he's
- 1:10:29Speaker 8: gonna run into a defender like he's gonna run into
- 1:10:32Speaker 8: and create pressure on his own. So those are like
- 1:10:36Speaker 8: the little things that now when you get into an
- 1:10:38Speaker 8: NFL pocket against real pass rushers, that you start to
- 1:10:41Speaker 8: get a little bit concerned about.
- 1:10:43Speaker 6: You know.
- 1:10:43Speaker 2: That's the thing, Like, it's worth reminding ourselves that the
- 1:10:47Speaker 2: defenses that we saw in preseason are not anything near
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: what we're going to see. First of all, the talent
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: level is gonna be much higher, but they're also scheming
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: it up. And you know, as much as this is
- 1:10:59Speaker 2: a passing league and off you know, the league wants
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: offenses to have the edge. Defenses are better now. They're
- 1:11:05Speaker 2: better at give, you know, disguising things and giving quarterbacks
- 1:11:09Speaker 2: different looks. That's why it's so hard to be a
- 1:11:12Speaker 2: good quarterback in this league. And it's he's gonna see
- 1:11:17Speaker 2: things he's never seen before.
- 1:11:19Speaker 9: Yeah, you know.
- 1:11:20Speaker 8: Now, with that all that being said, all the nitpicks
- 1:11:23Speaker 8: that I had being said, there are some guys that
- 1:11:26Speaker 8: are just so gifted as throwers that they can just do.
- 1:11:31Speaker 9: All this crap and get away with it.
- 1:11:33Speaker 8: And as another thing I wrote about and after further
- 1:11:35Speaker 8: review that his mechanics right now remind me a lot
- 1:11:39Speaker 8: of Aaron Rodgers at the beginning, where there are some
- 1:11:42Speaker 8: of these weird, quirky things that he's doing, Like on
- 1:11:45Speaker 8: the Jalen Polk throw, he's he falls off the bidline
- 1:11:49Speaker 8: right like he falls to his right normally, like a
- 1:11:51Speaker 8: quarterback coach would look at that and be like, we
- 1:11:54Speaker 8: need to fix this. It's a dot. It's like right
- 1:11:56Speaker 8: on his hands in stride. Like some guys just can
- 1:11:59Speaker 8: break the rule, like you have that kid in school
- 1:12:01Speaker 8: that always got away with everything. Like some guys are
- 1:12:04Speaker 8: just so talented that they just get away with all
- 1:12:06Speaker 8: this crap. And he might be one of those types
- 1:12:08Speaker 8: of guys. If that was Mac Jones, that would be
- 1:12:11Speaker 8: a problem because he doesn't have the physical skill set
- 1:12:13Speaker 8: that Drake does. So maybe he's just a freak like
- 1:12:16Speaker 8: you not You don't know yet.
- 1:12:18Speaker 3: Fingers crossed, Yeah all right.
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: Web Radio at patries dot com is the email address
- 1:12:24Speaker 2: Joe writes in sorry for making Fritz swear last week,
- 1:12:28Speaker 2: Good get you. I agree with Paul that you hypothetically
- 1:12:33Speaker 2: could pull may after you start him, But in reality,
- 1:12:36Speaker 2: how can you certainly not Mayo with his need to
- 1:12:40Speaker 2: be liked by the media. If you're pulling him for
- 1:12:43Speaker 2: his mistakes, then why he needs to make them to learn?
- 1:12:46Speaker 2: If you pull them because of the O line, then
- 1:12:49Speaker 2: how do you explain it? Yeah, if you think drafting
- 1:12:52Speaker 2: Milton was going to cause unwonted questions or distractions, how
- 1:12:56Speaker 2: can you justify pulling May without saying directly that it's
- 1:13:00Speaker 2: the Lion's fault.
- 1:13:02Speaker 5: No, No, I wouldn't pull May. I would not want
- 1:13:06Speaker 5: to do that. I'm just saying I wouldn't not play
- 1:13:08Speaker 5: him because once I play him, I have to keep
- 1:13:09Speaker 5: him out there. Yeah, like that to me shouldn't be
- 1:13:12Speaker 5: a deterrent. If he plays and he's really bad, he
- 1:13:15Speaker 5: should be treated like all the other players and lose
- 1:13:18Speaker 5: playing time. Yeah, that's all I'm saying.
- 1:13:20Speaker 2: But I think what he's saying is No, it's a
- 1:13:22Speaker 2: really good email.
- 1:13:23Speaker 5: Like all the points valid, it.
- 1:13:25Speaker 2: Also goes to something I was thinking about with the cutdowns.
- 1:13:29Speaker 2: So my contention, I don't know this, no one's told me.
- 1:13:32Speaker 2: But my contention is, you know, and Jerry kind of
- 1:13:35Speaker 2: said it. He wants to tell the team who the
- 1:13:37Speaker 2: start you know, the team who the starting quarterback is
- 1:13:40Speaker 2: before he tells the media I got that, which is fine.
- 1:13:44Speaker 2: You know, so you tell the team, but we all
- 1:13:49Speaker 2: know that May is the best quarterback. So if we do,
- 1:13:52Speaker 2: then probably the team does too, the players. So but
- 1:13:55Speaker 2: if they go with Jacoby, how does he explain that
- 1:13:59Speaker 2: to the team. How does he tell the team, Yeah,
- 1:14:02Speaker 2: we're gonna go with Jacoby because our line stinks.
- 1:14:05Speaker 7: No, because he feels like he gives them the better
- 1:14:07Speaker 7: chance to win with based on his experience.
- 1:14:09Speaker 5: But he's ready to run.
- 1:14:10Speaker 2: The point is, like, are the players going to buy.
- 1:14:13Speaker 5: That if he if he's ready? If if May's not
- 1:14:16Speaker 5: ready to run the offense?
- 1:14:17Speaker 7: Yes, well, ye okay, if he's but he's better. There's
- 1:14:22Speaker 7: nobody that has eyes that doesn't know that May is
- 1:14:24Speaker 7: better than That's what I mean.
- 1:14:26Speaker 5: But that doesn't mean he's ready to play.
- 1:14:27Speaker 2: No, No, that's a big if.
- 1:14:29Speaker 5: But let's say he is, then he should play.
- 1:14:31Speaker 2: I know, but like what if, like there's this other
- 1:14:34Speaker 2: ulterior plan.
- 1:14:35Speaker 5: That's a coaching mistake.
- 1:14:37Speaker 2: But that's my point is, how do you explain that
- 1:14:39Speaker 2: to the team if he is ready, how do you
- 1:14:41Speaker 2: explain it to the team that Jacoby is our starter?
- 1:14:44Speaker 3: I mean, I don't think it's that hard. I mean,
- 1:14:46Speaker 3: I think Jacoby has the respect of all those guys.
- 1:14:48Speaker 3: I mean, if you guys saw he was on Devon
- 1:14:49Speaker 3: Godshaw's podcast and don Von Godshaw was singing the praises
- 1:14:53Speaker 3: of the leadership of Jacoby Brissett and how he was
- 1:14:55Speaker 3: also still getting guys you know ready. I mean, I
- 1:14:58Speaker 3: don't think that there's any secret about you know, the
- 1:15:01Speaker 3: future is Drake May and everybody knows it. But I
- 1:15:03Speaker 3: think people still have a lot of respect for Jacoby Brissette,
- 1:15:06Speaker 3: and I agree, you know, frame the right way. I
- 1:15:07Speaker 3: think those guys will will get in line. I mean,
- 1:15:10Speaker 3: like what I said earlier, Look, we're gonna play Cincinnati.
- 1:15:12Speaker 3: This kid, this guy's played in Cincinnati, He's beaten Cincinnati.
- 1:15:15Speaker 3: You know, we we've we've gone into multiple game plans
- 1:15:17Speaker 3: even when he wasn't playing for us in Cleveland that
- 1:15:20Speaker 3: you know, he knows what it's going to take to
- 1:15:21Speaker 3: beat this defense and how we're going to have to play. Okay,
- 1:15:24Speaker 3: so he's you know, and you just got to take
- 1:15:26Speaker 3: it week by week. I think we get we're getting
- 1:15:27Speaker 3: so caught up and like you know, when he's going
- 1:15:29Speaker 3: to start, it's like, let's just focus on week one.
- 1:15:31Speaker 3: At Cincinnati, who realistically gives you the best chance to
- 1:15:34Speaker 3: win this game. I think there's a there's an argument
- 1:15:36Speaker 3: even as you know, as Paul was saying, based on
- 1:15:39Speaker 3: the ability, we all know who has more ability, but
- 1:15:41Speaker 3: who's going to give you the best chance to win?
- 1:15:43Speaker 3: I don't think it's it's a it's a it's a
- 1:15:44Speaker 3: false argument to say that we really believe that Jacoby
- 1:15:46Speaker 3: Brissett gives us the best chance.
- 1:15:48Speaker 8: Okay, you know, I definitely feel agree with you one
- 1:15:52Speaker 8: hundred percent that they can sell it to the players
- 1:15:55Speaker 8: because they all really like, in respect, Kobe Brissett. So
- 1:15:58Speaker 8: I I definitely feel that that there would be a
- 1:16:02Speaker 8: general feeling of, you know, confidence in that respect. But
- 1:16:06Speaker 8: I'm sure that there would be a lot of players
- 1:16:07Speaker 8: in that locker room that are especially on the defensive
- 1:16:10Speaker 8: side of the ball, that maybe have faced Drake May
- 1:16:12Speaker 8: in practice, that are just like, this guy is much better.
- 1:16:15Speaker 3: It's it's like the undertone that I've realized over the
- 1:16:17Speaker 3: last few weeks of camp, where it was like Brissett's reps,
- 1:16:20Speaker 3: Brisset's reps in the games that fans us everybody you're
- 1:16:26Speaker 3: just kind of in a holding pattern with these preset
- 1:16:27Speaker 3: reps or when he starts, and everybody's aware that, like
- 1:16:30Speaker 3: it doesn't ultimately mean anything win or loss against Cincinnati
- 1:16:33Speaker 3: with Bresset a quarterback, it doesn't really mean anything other
- 1:16:36Speaker 3: than how does it affect when Drake May is gonna
- 1:16:38Speaker 3: get in there? So you know, even like I hesitate
- 1:16:41Speaker 3: to say, even in success, you're kind of like, well great,
- 1:16:43Speaker 3: but like, come on, let's just get Drake in there.
- 1:16:44Speaker 3: Like it's gonna be the undertone all season long until
- 1:16:46Speaker 3: he actually gets in.
- 1:16:47Speaker 8: It's definitely one of those we have to do is
- 1:16:49Speaker 8: show today topics too, because in like two or three years,
- 1:16:52Speaker 8: it's gonna be totally irrelevant of whether or not Drake
- 1:16:55Speaker 8: May started Week one twenty twenty.
- 1:16:56Speaker 2: Four, right.
- 1:16:59Speaker 3: Unless you got hurt and then they got the first
- 1:17:00Speaker 3: overall pick next year, then you get a receiver. I
- 1:17:04Speaker 3: was looking back on that though, it's like, you know,
- 1:17:05Speaker 3: kind of a similar position with the Road, but you know,
- 1:17:08Speaker 3: like that the way that that injury happened to him
- 1:17:11Speaker 3: that then enabled them to get Jamar Chase, it was
- 1:17:13Speaker 3: like it was almost like wun't you almost rather like
- 1:17:15Speaker 3: let's just start May and then he's gonna get hurt.
- 1:17:18Speaker 3: Then we're gonna and then present's gonna start the rest
- 1:17:20Speaker 3: of the season. Well, we're gonna have a top three
- 1:17:21Speaker 3: pick again, I mean start.
- 1:17:24Speaker 8: Borough least started a chunk of games in his first year,
- 1:17:27Speaker 8: so you got to see that it was there that
- 1:17:29Speaker 8: you know, and that it was you know, he wasn't
- 1:17:31Speaker 8: fully there yet, but you could clearly tell he could play.
- 1:17:34Speaker 9: But yeah, it did kind of work out, you know.
- 1:17:36Speaker 2: Floyd and Redford. Michigan Patriots quarterback coach TC McCartney said
- 1:17:41Speaker 2: the best way to get better at football is to play. Also,
- 1:17:46Speaker 2: the head coach said that too. It's not to say
- 1:17:49Speaker 2: you can't learn from the sidelines, but the best way
- 1:17:51Speaker 2: to get better is to play. Drake May needs to
- 1:17:54Speaker 2: play this year. Exclamation point. He doesn't have to start
- 1:17:58Speaker 2: week one, but by week five or six. I'm hoping
- 1:18:00Speaker 2: to see Drake me too.
- 1:18:02Speaker 3: That's and that's that's it. I mean, yeah, I'm fine
- 1:18:04Speaker 3: preaching patients right now. Week one, week two, That's as
- 1:18:07Speaker 3: far as I'll get ahead of myself. But one hundred
- 1:18:09Speaker 3: percent agree with Floyd. If we get to November and
- 1:18:12Speaker 3: we're still just watching an average team kind of struggle
- 1:18:14Speaker 3: to move the ball, I have no.
- 1:18:17Speaker 2: Doubt that Drake May will start the majority of the
- 1:18:20Speaker 2: games this season. My only question is is he going
- 1:18:23Speaker 2: to start Week one? But I think I think yes,
- 1:18:29Speaker 2: the majority of games will be started by Drake May
- 1:18:32Speaker 2: this year.
- 1:18:32Speaker 8: Agreed he'll be in there by Halloween at the latest.
- 1:18:35Speaker 8: I mean, there's no way that we're talking about him
- 1:18:38Speaker 8: playing week one, right, not at all this year. Right,
- 1:18:40Speaker 8: We're already past that point. He's definitely playing this year.
- 1:18:43Speaker 2: And do you think that the decision has been made
- 1:18:47Speaker 2: by the team. Let's just say, like like today, they
- 1:18:53Speaker 2: probably know, but let's say Monday, when they got back
- 1:18:57Speaker 2: from the Commander's game. Do you think knew at that
- 1:19:00Speaker 2: point who was going to be the Week one starter?
- 1:19:03Speaker 2: Or they will? Are they still talking?
- 1:19:04Speaker 9: I think they knew on April twenty seven. This is
- 1:19:08Speaker 9: our wrong.
- 1:19:10Speaker 2: If they had already made up their mind. If they
- 1:19:13Speaker 2: made up their mind, then I think starts week one,
- 1:19:16Speaker 2: Then that's wrong.
- 1:19:17Speaker 9: I'm with Paul.
- 1:19:19Speaker 5: I think they have a plan.
- 1:19:20Speaker 7: They're sticking to it, and I'm not as convinced as
- 1:19:22Speaker 7: you guys that he's going to start. He's going to
- 1:19:24Speaker 7: start the majority of games. I think they have a plan.
- 1:19:27Speaker 2: I believe me.
- 1:19:30Speaker 5: I hope I'm wrong.
- 1:19:31Speaker 3: Yeah, but I think that's a you know, it's a
- 1:19:34Speaker 3: good question. I don't think that they know when they
- 1:19:37Speaker 3: want to put him in. I don't think like, I
- 1:19:39Speaker 3: don't think they have a game in mind.
- 1:19:40Speaker 7: I don't think they do either. But I just, oh,
- 1:19:44Speaker 7: yeah on week one, I think they've known all of camp.
- 1:19:49Speaker 2: What my point was, if somebody, if one of you
- 1:19:52Speaker 2: had said, well, you know, I think they were still
- 1:19:54Speaker 2: debating it, you know, leading up to this last preseason game.
- 1:19:57Speaker 2: And if that's the case, then you got to start May.
- 1:20:00Speaker 2: If there was any question. Absolutely, if there was any question,
- 1:20:03Speaker 2: then you got to start May.
- 1:20:05Speaker 7: Now that said, I thought percent looked fine the other night,
- 1:20:08Speaker 7: you know, like I don't. I don't think the sack
- 1:20:10Speaker 7: was again could have been a pre snap thing, so
- 1:20:13Speaker 7: that would be on him.
- 1:20:14Speaker 6: But like.
- 1:20:16Speaker 7: Picked himself up in another couple of plays and threw
- 1:20:19Speaker 7: one of the best balls he's thrown all of camp.
- 1:20:20Speaker 8: Yeah, Osborne. Yeah, and it was that offscript too, Like
- 1:20:23Speaker 8: it wasn't it.
- 1:20:24Speaker 2: I think we've got a pretty good backup in Jacoby Brissett.
- 1:20:27Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 1:20:28Speaker 2: I agree, you know, let's leave it at that, except
- 1:20:34Speaker 2: for starting, Well, my friend's kind of the irony in
- 1:20:37Speaker 2: this statement. Erica is in Virginia. What's up? Erica?
- 1:20:44Speaker 8: Hey?
- 1:20:44Speaker 18: By Hey, guys, just better lost since I called in.
- 1:20:48Speaker 18: I guess my question is mainly for Evan was go around.
- 1:20:52Speaker 18: I just wanted to just get some clarification. Uh, I
- 1:20:56Speaker 18: wasn't gonna call in, but your first phone call us
- 1:21:00Speaker 18: once be hung up, you had kind of mentioned and
- 1:21:03Speaker 18: I may have been wrong, So please, I just again
- 1:21:05Speaker 18: clarification and then I'll take it off the air. You
- 1:21:09Speaker 18: mentioned that we might win four to five games under Jacoby,
- 1:21:13Speaker 18: But what is it that you're seeing that we are
- 1:21:15Speaker 18: seeing from I guess an outsider's point of view, because
- 1:21:19Speaker 18: we haven't really seen him move the ball in entire years,
- 1:21:22Speaker 18: you know what I'm saying. And then you put him
- 1:21:24Speaker 18: up in against second and third stringers in preseason this
- 1:21:27Speaker 18: year and he hasn't moved the ball, not one. And
- 1:21:30Speaker 18: I get that the O line for the last five
- 1:21:32Speaker 18: years have been an issue, and I'm not saying start
- 1:21:34Speaker 18: strict made one. I guess I just want to know
- 1:21:38Speaker 18: what you're seeing that the rest of us aren't to
- 1:21:43Speaker 18: where we're going to gain at least four to five
- 1:21:45Speaker 18: games with Jacoby, and especially against the rivals of the Jets,
- 1:21:49Speaker 18: and with that, I'll take.
- 1:21:50Speaker 2: It off the air thinks yet, thanks Eric.
- 1:21:52Speaker 9: Yeah, I hadn't put a win total on it. I
- 1:21:55Speaker 9: have no idea, but I was.
- 1:21:56Speaker 5: Just saying, did they move the ball last year?
- 1:21:59Speaker 4: No?
- 1:22:00Speaker 5: In four games?
- 1:22:01Speaker 3: Right, you're probably gonna bad.
- 1:22:03Speaker 5: Teams win four games?
- 1:22:05Speaker 11: Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:22:06Speaker 8: The only reason why Jacoby Brissett's starting is because Drake
- 1:22:09Speaker 8: May is not ready or some combination of factors of
- 1:22:11Speaker 8: the offensive line and all this other stuff we've been
- 1:22:14Speaker 8: talking about. It's not because he's the better.
- 1:22:16Speaker 7: I don't I don't think anybody's really been sort of
- 1:22:18Speaker 7: trumpeting well, Brissette gives you, you know, a chance to
- 1:22:21Speaker 7: move the ball and put points on the board, and
- 1:22:24Speaker 7: we haven't seen that this summer now.
- 1:22:26Speaker 2: I mean, listen, Drake May gives you a better chance
- 1:22:28Speaker 2: to win games because in this league there are times
- 1:22:31Speaker 2: when the quarterback has to just make plays well, and
- 1:22:34Speaker 2: who's better at doing that?
- 1:22:36Speaker 11: Yeah?
- 1:22:36Speaker 2: No, From what the little what we've seen of Drake May,
- 1:22:39Speaker 2: he's better doing that than Jacoby.
- 1:22:41Speaker 3: He can move around, he's mobile. I mean, you know,
- 1:22:43Speaker 3: he's not afraid to throw the ball on the move.
- 1:22:45Speaker 3: And yeah, I don't think.
- 1:22:46Speaker 7: I mean, this might be the biggest plus that I
- 1:22:49Speaker 7: could say for Drake May playing is I don't think
- 1:22:51Speaker 7: there's any difference in your record if he plays or
- 1:22:53Speaker 7: Brissette plays. Not one's a nine year veteran, ones never
- 1:22:58Speaker 7: played before. I don't really think it's gonna matter all
- 1:23:01Speaker 7: that much. And I think potentially, if it really hits,
- 1:23:05Speaker 7: you're gonna win more games.
- 1:23:06Speaker 2: With the r and he's gonna be more ready for
- 1:23:09Speaker 2: year two.
- 1:23:10Speaker 7: That's kind of what I want, is that, you know,
- 1:23:12Speaker 7: And maybe I'm just being cranky and selfish, like I
- 1:23:16Speaker 7: just want to accelerate the process.
- 1:23:17Speaker 5: That's why I wanted to play as.
- 1:23:18Speaker 2: Quickly as the best case scenario is. Other than like
- 1:23:23Speaker 2: there's a miracle and they make the playoffs, the best
- 1:23:25Speaker 2: case scenario is May plays really well, but they still
- 1:23:28Speaker 2: only win two games, and then you have that high
- 1:23:31Speaker 2: draft pick which you trade in stockpile picks, and you
- 1:23:36Speaker 2: go into year two, spend a little money in free agency,
- 1:23:40Speaker 2: and now you've got a team.
- 1:23:42Speaker 7: You know, but you could do that, like I'm gonna
- 1:23:45Speaker 7: go with Evans thing here, like why not win six
- 1:23:49Speaker 7: or seven games with Drake May? And maybe your draft
- 1:23:51Speaker 7: position isn't as high, but now you might be more
- 1:23:53Speaker 7: attractive to the rest of the league. Yeah, in terms
- 1:23:57Speaker 7: of being able to get players in there, I.
- 1:24:00Speaker 2: Think that agents and players are smart enough to say,
- 1:24:03Speaker 2: you know, Drake may played well last night, he's going If.
- 1:24:05Speaker 7: You're two and fifteen, well, it depends on how it looks,
- 1:24:08Speaker 7: but I would say it didn't look good.
- 1:24:09Speaker 2: If you're two and fifteen, hard if you're losing twenty
- 1:24:11Speaker 2: seven at thirty to twenty seven, do you think that.
- 1:24:16Speaker 5: That's gonna happen.
- 1:24:17Speaker 2: I'm just saying, you don't know, Like we're.
- 1:24:20Speaker 7: Having a conversation. Yeah, and you throw Andy Hardism's at me,
- 1:24:23Speaker 7: But like, what.
- 1:24:24Speaker 2: If like the offense, Hey, compared to last year, this
- 1:24:27Speaker 2: offense is light years better, they're still losing.
- 1:24:31Speaker 7: And they're not going to go two and fifteen. If
- 1:24:32Speaker 7: the offense is light years better, even I think more
- 1:24:35Speaker 7: of the defense than that.
- 1:24:36Speaker 3: Yeah, it's it's a it's a pickle, I know, but
- 1:24:40Speaker 3: I think like it's really not like it like the
- 1:24:41Speaker 3: pickle is that like the pickles that we didn't have
- 1:24:43Speaker 3: a quarterback forre Like, now you have a quarterback and
- 1:24:45Speaker 3: we're talking about how to manage him. I'd just say
- 1:24:47Speaker 3: just from what I've seen in camp, that kid can
- 1:24:50Speaker 3: throw the ball down the field. If I'm a receiver
- 1:24:52Speaker 3: with speed looking at that kid and watching the ball
- 1:24:55Speaker 3: go off Javon Baker's hands or going on, you know,
- 1:24:57Speaker 3: Taekwon Thornton can't come down with it. I'm saying this
- 1:24:59Speaker 3: is a this is an element of this offense that
- 1:25:02Speaker 3: is waiting to happen.
- 1:25:03Speaker 2: And if I'm that receiver, I'm like, yeah, I want
- 1:25:05Speaker 2: to I couldn't be that person. Or if I'm a
- 1:25:07Speaker 2: left tackle, yeah, I could be that guy that.
- 1:25:10Speaker 3: You know, I think too. I mean it's and it's
- 1:25:12Speaker 3: as much about the draft too, though. I mean that's,
- 1:25:13Speaker 3: you know, sure a big part of it. But I
- 1:25:15Speaker 3: think with that receiver piece, if you do have to
- 1:25:17Speaker 3: go to the well or not to go to free
- 1:25:19Speaker 3: agency and spend a lot of money, you know, it's
- 1:25:21Speaker 3: it's harder to make that pitch. When you had a
- 1:25:23Speaker 3: guy like Mac Jones where it was like, I mean,
- 1:25:25Speaker 3: don't run more than thirty yards because he probably can't
- 1:25:28Speaker 3: get it there, you know, fast enough. But this kid
- 1:25:30Speaker 3: can get it there, you know, and and and and quick.
- 1:25:32Speaker 3: And I mean that's just some of those throws that
- 1:25:35Speaker 3: he made and granted we've been saying and we'll see
- 1:25:37Speaker 3: how it looks in the regular season, because they've been
- 1:25:38Speaker 3: close and even in camp one hundreds, like how many
- 1:25:41Speaker 3: times do we say whoo? Like that one was completed,
- 1:25:43Speaker 3: but it was close, and so is it. May's got
- 1:25:45Speaker 3: a great arm and he's able to beat that is
- 1:25:47Speaker 3: able to beat the number one cornerback on those kind
- 1:25:50Speaker 3: of plays. We'll see how it does. But I just
- 1:25:52Speaker 3: think watching his arm, it's it's it's exciting, and that's
- 1:25:55Speaker 3: that's a special arm town, you know. That's what's exciting
- 1:25:57Speaker 3: to me. We're gonna get to watch this kid no
- 1:25:59Speaker 3: matter when gets in. I'm with you, guys, though I
- 1:26:01Speaker 3: hope it's sooner than later.
- 1:26:03Speaker 2: I mean, it's you know, when they drafted Bledsoe, you
- 1:26:06Speaker 2: looked at Bledsoe, It's like, what a cannon? You know,
- 1:26:09Speaker 2: you got excited.
- 1:26:10Speaker 3: Paul put his money down right there.
- 1:26:12Speaker 2: He saw and.
- 1:26:15Speaker 5: Talent.
- 1:26:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, the guy can hit all levels of
- 1:26:19Speaker 2: the field.
- 1:26:21Speaker 9: That's the only to have a guy like that.
- 1:26:23Speaker 8: That's the one thing that I just putting our offensive
- 1:26:26Speaker 8: coordinator hats on. Everything is on the call sheet. You
- 1:26:30Speaker 8: can literally call anything with him in the game. You
- 1:26:32Speaker 8: can call quarterback run, you can play under center, you
- 1:26:35Speaker 8: can play out of a gun, you can throw it
- 1:26:37Speaker 8: to every quadrant of the field. That's what makes those
- 1:26:40Speaker 8: types of guys so enticing, Like that's what makes Josh
- 1:26:42Speaker 8: Allen and Herbert you know, like Jordan love like these guys.
- 1:26:46Speaker 8: There's no limitations. There's nothing that you can't do in
- 1:26:50Speaker 8: terms of the routes that you run or what plays
- 1:26:52Speaker 8: you design or whatever, and that that piece of it,
- 1:26:55Speaker 8: as corps matches his arm.
- 1:26:58Speaker 3: I mean, but the development that had, I mean, you know,
- 1:27:01Speaker 3: the signs are all pointing in a positive direction. It'll
- 1:27:03Speaker 3: hit a new level in the regular season. But I
- 1:27:05Speaker 3: just love like this is just you know, fan deuced.
- 1:27:07Speaker 3: But like you know, seeing the dan Orlovsky's of the world,
- 1:27:10Speaker 3: they're seeing people be impressed by his talent, you know,
- 1:27:12Speaker 3: and not feeling like, God, we got we got some
- 1:27:15Speaker 3: limitations with our quarterback of the future. You know, it
- 1:27:17Speaker 3: just doesn't feel like that right now. It just feels
- 1:27:19Speaker 3: like we got a gem. How do we best develop
- 1:27:21Speaker 3: him and make sure that, you know, we put the
- 1:27:23Speaker 3: pieces in place around him as quickly as possible, because
- 1:27:26Speaker 3: you know, the clock is always ticking but there's some
- 1:27:29Speaker 3: real talent there. It be fun to once he gets
- 1:27:31Speaker 3: in there. But now we're gonna be in and we'll
- 1:27:32Speaker 3: see when that.
- 1:27:33Speaker 2: Shane in Springfield writes in I think May should play.
- 1:27:35Speaker 2: I tend to disagree with the notion that Jacoby should
- 1:27:38Speaker 2: start over him due to his elevated knowledge at the line.
- 1:27:42Speaker 2: Mahomes sat for a year with Andy Reid developing him,
- 1:27:45Speaker 2: and Mahomes had stated multiple times he still couldn't read
- 1:27:49Speaker 2: the defense as his whole second year once he finally
- 1:27:52Speaker 2: started playing. Good point. If Andy Reid should have thought
- 1:27:56Speaker 2: of it. If Andy Reid couldn't teach him Mahome that
- 1:28:00Speaker 2: from the sidelines, then why do we push the narrative
- 1:28:03Speaker 2: that Drake can do the same with his staff. Uh,
- 1:28:06Speaker 2: he needs to play and learn the stuff. Enough of
- 1:28:09Speaker 2: the bubble wrap, let's go. Oh yeah, I mean that
- 1:28:14Speaker 2: That is a good point.
- 1:28:15Speaker 3: I'm with him.
- 1:28:16Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, would Mahomes have known it? Quicker course
- 1:28:22Speaker 2: he would have. The answer is yes, He's.
- 1:28:26Speaker 3: Thrown out so much right now, and I feel like
- 1:28:28Speaker 3: Paul just needs to like press a button and be like,
- 1:28:29Speaker 3: here's my response.
- 1:28:31Speaker 5: I wish I wish I had thought of that.
- 1:28:32Speaker 2: Argument I remember you specifically. People said, well, Mahomes, and
- 1:28:37Speaker 2: I've heard you say in the radio, well, how do
- 1:28:39Speaker 2: we know we wouldn't have been a.
- 1:28:41Speaker 3: Super boot that trademark, that's that's.
- 1:28:44Speaker 7: He could have just been great as rookie year and
- 1:28:46Speaker 7: then won the title his second year. You know, it's
- 1:28:47Speaker 7: just been nothing is rookie year and just been great.
- 1:28:50Speaker 7: Not win the title is second one. He couldn't playing Fantasyland.
- 1:28:54Speaker 7: I'm going to give him another title if he plays.
- 1:28:56Speaker 2: At the end of the day, if you're a Kansas
- 1:28:58Speaker 2: City Chiefs fan, you don't care. It's like everything worked out.
- 1:29:00Speaker 2: But like to prove a point about starting verus nuts starting,
- 1:29:04Speaker 2: that's not a legitimate argument.
- 1:29:06Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 1:29:06Speaker 3: Well, and now it's like kind of like oh six
- 1:29:08Speaker 3: was for the Patriots, where you're like, eh, we could
- 1:29:10Speaker 3: we could.
- 1:29:10Speaker 11: Have gotten another one.
- 1:29:11Speaker 7: But it's like Brady, you know, look, look Brady sat
- 1:29:14Speaker 7: Like Brady was the one hundred and ninety ninth pick
- 1:29:16Speaker 7: of the draft, was kept as the fourth quarterback, and
- 1:29:20Speaker 7: then didn't play until the year two. Like that's not
- 1:29:23Speaker 7: the same as deciding whether or not the third overall
- 1:29:25Speaker 7: pick should play right away.
- 1:29:27Speaker 8: Yeah, And it's really not the same for Jordan Love
- 1:29:30Speaker 8: either who was sitting behind Rogers was picked up. What
- 1:29:33Speaker 8: twenty sixth I want to say or something like that.
- 1:29:36Speaker 8: But even though it's a preseason and the defenses will
- 1:29:39Speaker 8: get more exotic and more creative, he makes pretty good
- 1:29:42Speaker 8: decisions with the ball for the most part. Like there's
- 1:29:44Speaker 8: some times where I, you know, he think gets a
- 1:29:47Speaker 8: little aggressive, but I kind of like that, like have
- 1:29:49Speaker 8: some arrogance, like you gotta can.
- 1:29:50Speaker 2: And in this year, if he plays a lot, I
- 1:29:53Speaker 2: don't care if he has a lot of interceptions. Yeah,
- 1:29:56Speaker 2: as long as the ball's going where it was intended.
- 1:29:58Speaker 7: You know, and it's not the same kind of play, yeah,
- 1:30:02Speaker 7: you know, Like that's what frustrated with mac Jones. Mac
- 1:30:04Speaker 7: Jones didn't throw a lot of interceptions, but he threw
- 1:30:07Speaker 7: a lot of the same kind of interceptions. Yeah, you know,
- 1:30:10Speaker 7: the sort of moving and no business throw going one
- 1:30:15Speaker 7: way throwing the other. I must have seen that one
- 1:30:17Speaker 7: five times three years as the starter.
- 1:30:19Speaker 2: That's that's his game.
- 1:30:20Speaker 5: He never seemed to learn from his mistakes.
- 1:30:23Speaker 3: Seam throws never got better.
- 1:30:24Speaker 2: Justina is in North Carolina. What's what's up, Justina?
- 1:30:28Speaker 5: Hi?
- 1:30:30Speaker 20: My question is, well, I'm Tario graduate of course. So
- 1:30:34Speaker 20: I've been watching May and now I'm a new New
- 1:30:36Speaker 20: England New England saying, but I think the issue to
- 1:30:42Speaker 20: me is a BP is definite. Oh, Jacoby's going to
- 1:30:47Speaker 20: start and May I's like, well, you know, we don't know.
- 1:30:51Speaker 20: I think they made Jacoby's some promises and they don't
- 1:30:56Speaker 20: want to back back up on that. And I think
- 1:31:00Speaker 20: it's not it's not an issue as whether he's more experienced.
- 1:31:04Speaker 20: I think they're just using that as an ascute you know.
- 1:31:09Speaker 20: As far as May's arm and everything. I think if
- 1:31:15Speaker 20: he if he does, he has to be in the
- 1:31:18Speaker 20: game before he could even self correct.
- 1:31:19Speaker 4: You know.
- 1:31:20Speaker 20: If he gets in there, he's smart enough, he knows
- 1:31:22Speaker 20: what his problem is. He's just self correct. I think
- 1:31:26Speaker 20: he should be playing. And I don't think. I don't
- 1:31:30Speaker 20: buy that that Jakobe is more experienced and he's going
- 1:31:32Speaker 20: to help him, you know, along the way, And I
- 1:31:36Speaker 20: think that makes it's more talented. He's just more talented
- 1:31:40Speaker 20: than Kobe. He has experience, but made it's more talented
- 1:31:44Speaker 20: seing him adjust in things when he was at North Carolina.
- 1:31:47Speaker 20: I think he'll justin pros as well.
- 1:31:50Speaker 2: Thanks Justin.
- 1:31:51Speaker 9: Justina knows Ball.
- 1:31:53Speaker 2: I'm not ruling out that they might have made promises
- 1:31:56Speaker 2: to Jacoby, but if they did, shame on that.
- 1:31:59Speaker 9: Oh yeah yeah, I mean, well, I I agree with
- 1:32:02Speaker 9: that to an extent, though I.
- 1:32:03Speaker 5: Think there could be some truth.
- 1:32:04Speaker 2: Yeah, that's wrong. They shouldn't have done that.
- 1:32:07Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:32:08Speaker 9: I also feel like there's no doubt that Mayo and
- 1:32:11Speaker 9: a VP are at odds about this like that.
- 1:32:13Speaker 8: That to me, I think is is clear that that's
- 1:32:16Speaker 8: at odds or just Mayo's not sure yet at odds.
- 1:32:20Speaker 8: But I don't mean that as like hostile, Like I
- 1:32:23Speaker 8: know it sounds hot like they're in these big arguments
- 1:32:25Speaker 8: and jul Stadium.
- 1:32:27Speaker 5: But maybe they're not seeing it the same way, seeing
- 1:32:29Speaker 5: eye to eye.
- 1:32:30Speaker 8: On this, because I think Mayo is a former player
- 1:32:34Speaker 8: on defense that's looking at this and saying, I wouldn't
- 1:32:37Speaker 8: want to have to face Drake like this is this
- 1:32:39Speaker 8: is way harder than going up against Zakobe or I
- 1:32:42Speaker 8: would want to go to battle with the more talented guy,
- 1:32:44Speaker 8: whereas a VP is like, let's let's calm you know,
- 1:32:47Speaker 8: let's calm down and let's.
- 1:32:49Speaker 9: Be patient with this.
- 1:32:50Speaker 8: Their their answers are totally different. I mean, Drake, is
- 1:32:55Speaker 8: you know out playing Jacoby, he's made, he's pushing. It's
- 1:32:58Speaker 8: a competitionby's our starter. He does X, Y and Z
- 1:33:02Speaker 8: better you know than Drake does right now, Like it's
- 1:33:04Speaker 8: they're saying two different things. So I don't know how
- 1:33:07Speaker 8: you can look at it and say that they're not
- 1:33:10Speaker 8: a little bit in disagreement about what's going on.
- 1:33:12Speaker 3: This is gonna get tedious like into the season because
- 1:33:15Speaker 3: they're probably not going to win a lot of games
- 1:33:17Speaker 3: and we're just gonna probably stay on this whole Drake.
- 1:33:20Speaker 5: That this is going to be a topic until May play.
- 1:33:23Speaker 7: Oh god, yes, yeah, I mean I think it even
- 1:33:25Speaker 7: if they, like surprised some in won a few games,
- 1:33:28Speaker 7: I think it would remain a topic until May plays.
- 1:33:32Speaker 3: Driving like the topic, the topic of the team.
- 1:33:35Speaker 5: But isn't that what this like? What else are you
- 1:33:37Speaker 5: like truly invested in right now?
- 1:33:41Speaker 3: When it comes to the Patriots, that's every conversation we have,
- 1:33:45Speaker 3: it's Drake May, that's the that's the piece.
- 1:33:48Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean I thought, you know, it's the whole thing,
- 1:33:51Speaker 8: right Like Polk I think looked pretty good in the
- 1:33:53Speaker 8: game the other night too, And you know, maybe those
- 1:33:56Speaker 8: two guys are going to be what we thought, you know,
- 1:34:00Speaker 8: we're getting ahead of ourselves. But you know that would
- 1:34:02Speaker 8: be exciting too. But other than that, it's it's just
- 1:34:06Speaker 8: Drake May and and he's the only real beacon of
- 1:34:08Speaker 8: hope that they have.
- 1:34:09Speaker 3: Do you think it's like once May gets in there,
- 1:34:11Speaker 3: then it's the deluge of all the different problems, like
- 1:34:14Speaker 3: are we going to be talking about the lack of
- 1:34:17Speaker 3: an X receiver or you know the problems that left
- 1:34:19Speaker 3: tackle like or do you think that those things are
- 1:34:21Speaker 3: going to be overshadowed then once May gets in, Now
- 1:34:24Speaker 3: those are the problems in the spotlight, you know, like
- 1:34:27Speaker 3: those are the next big steps They got to figure
- 1:34:29Speaker 3: out how.
- 1:34:29Speaker 5: To you know, local media, you know, a gender driven media.
- 1:34:33Speaker 2: So will there be second once May starts winning? I mean,
- 1:34:38Speaker 2: once May started receiver, let's just let's just say they're
- 1:34:44Speaker 2: still not that good, you know, you know, be reasonable.
- 1:34:47Speaker 2: He goes in and there's still not one of the
- 1:34:49Speaker 2: better teams in the league, meaning they're not winning. Will
- 1:34:53Speaker 2: there be factions of blame it on May or it's
- 1:34:56Speaker 2: everything around me? Will there be what do you.
- 1:34:59Speaker 5: Think, blame it on everything around him?
- 1:35:01Speaker 9: A year two, if it's still not better, then it will.
- 1:35:06Speaker 7: Be well, that's different, like and you know that happened
- 1:35:08Speaker 7: to Bledsoe, and I was as I'm as big a
- 1:35:11Speaker 7: Drew supporter as that was Pat No. But like when
- 1:35:14Speaker 7: it started, it was like, this guy's great. This guy, Yeah,
- 1:35:17Speaker 7: he makes some mistakes, he tore some some you know,
- 1:35:19Speaker 7: ill timed interception, but man, he making all these plays
- 1:35:22Speaker 7: and he doesn't really have a lot to work with.
- 1:35:24Speaker 7: And then all of a sudden, like you know, you
- 1:35:25Speaker 7: get him Terry Glenn and Sean Jefferson and you know
- 1:35:27Speaker 7: that Curtis Martin is really good, and then it's like
- 1:35:30Speaker 7: you for, yeah, we get bled So I told you,
- 1:35:32Speaker 7: if we just got these pieces around him, you go
- 1:35:34Speaker 7: to the Super Bowl and then ninety seven comes and
- 1:35:37Speaker 7: it's kind of like the same, and ninety eight comes,
- 1:35:38Speaker 7: it's kind of and it was because all of a
- 1:35:40Speaker 7: sudden it became maybe he ain't about the weapons. Maybe
- 1:35:44Speaker 7: he's just he's just really good. He's not great, and
- 1:35:46Speaker 7: he's never going to make that ascension to great. Yeah,
- 1:35:49Speaker 7: you know, but it took a long time. And again,
- 1:35:52Speaker 7: I'm the biggest Drew supporter ever, and I'm recognizing that
- 1:35:55Speaker 7: we probably didn't look at Drew as enough along the
- 1:35:59Speaker 7: way until it was really apparent that Drew was part
- 1:36:02Speaker 7: of the problem, never like as much of the problem
- 1:36:05Speaker 7: as it was made out to be. But yeah, initially
- 1:36:09Speaker 7: everybody's gonna be like, well, we don't know, what do
- 1:36:11Speaker 7: you expect.
- 1:36:12Speaker 9: He doesn't have a left tackle number one.
- 1:36:14Speaker 5: He's got no protection, he's got no receivers that can separate,
- 1:36:18Speaker 5: you know.
- 1:36:19Speaker 3: Yeah, it'll just be like, I mean, yeah, he had
- 1:36:21Speaker 3: those three interceptions, but those four throws he had was crazy, you.
- 1:36:25Speaker 5: Know, like that running made to the left, and you know,
- 1:36:27Speaker 5: you know, we knew he wasn't ready.
- 1:36:31Speaker 6: Arm.
- 1:36:32Speaker 2: Yeah, Emery writes in I have a question for the
- 1:36:35Speaker 2: if May is ready, he should play crowd Hypothetically, if
- 1:36:38Speaker 2: a bunch of injuries happened over the next two weeks,
- 1:36:41Speaker 2: and our line for week one was Anderson, Jordan, Leverett,
- 1:36:45Speaker 2: Mafi and corfor would you still say May should play
- 1:36:49Speaker 2: if he's ready? Do you truly believe the offensive line
- 1:36:52Speaker 2: should have zero bearing on the QB decision?
- 1:36:54Speaker 5: I think I'm the only one that says that.
- 1:36:56Speaker 8: I don't say zero bearing, but I've been saying it
- 1:37:00Speaker 8: since they drafted him. You're not talking about a sitting
- 1:37:04Speaker 8: duck in the pocket. Here, you're talking about a six
- 1:37:08Speaker 8: foot four two and twenty five pound athlete who manages
- 1:37:12Speaker 8: the pocket very very well and can get out of
- 1:37:15Speaker 8: the pocket and get out of dodge when.
- 1:37:16Speaker 9: He needs to.
- 1:37:18Speaker 8: I until he starts to look rattled by pressure, which
- 1:37:22Speaker 8: he hasn't in the preseason, by the way, and there
- 1:37:25Speaker 8: has been some pressure, and he's pretty poised and comfortable
- 1:37:28Speaker 8: back there. I just don't think it's as glaring of
- 1:37:32Speaker 8: a of a factor, I guess, but no one's saying
- 1:37:36Speaker 8: that it's zero factor.
- 1:37:37Speaker 5: Just me.
- 1:37:39Speaker 7: I'm the only one that says, like, the quarterback can
- 1:37:40Speaker 7: learn behind about offensive line.
- 1:37:42Speaker 5: I've seen it. It's mean a lot of examples of it.
- 1:37:46Speaker 2: Brian from New Jersey says, my logic is the fact
- 1:37:49Speaker 2: that they cut Zappi May as the starter since they'll
- 1:37:53Speaker 2: be in trouble if Brissette gets hurt early on. So
- 1:37:56Speaker 2: in other words, because we talked about, you know, some
- 1:38:00Speaker 2: people were talking about do.
- 1:38:01Speaker 5: You keep Zappy if you don't want to play May?
- 1:38:05Speaker 2: If you don't want to play May.
- 1:38:06Speaker 5: So to me, it just tells me that that's right. Yeah,
- 1:38:09Speaker 5: those things have nothing to do with each other. Yeah,
- 1:38:11Speaker 5: you're right, all right, now.
- 1:38:14Speaker 7: Gerard had a funny comment the other night about that
- 1:38:16Speaker 7: second quarterback off the Phil Perry.
- 1:38:18Speaker 5: Exchange will you win the post game?
- 1:38:20Speaker 7: I was did you think that was a little hord
- 1:38:23Speaker 7: when he wasn't really even willing to say he was
- 1:38:25Speaker 7: the second best quarterback?
- 1:38:26Speaker 8: Well, Drake, he said, Drake may is the second best quarterback.
- 1:38:29Speaker 8: I would He didn't commit.
- 1:38:31Speaker 5: I would like to think, I would like to say,
- 1:38:33Speaker 5: is what he said, and then he was asked to
- 1:38:34Speaker 5: fall up. Is that a yes? Next question?
- 1:38:37Speaker 8: Yeah, we were talking about this a little bit off there,
- 1:38:41Speaker 8: but that was the first time that I saw that
- 1:38:44Speaker 8: a little bit.
- 1:38:45Speaker 5: Uh.
- 1:38:45Speaker 9: I don't know what the right word is, just like.
- 1:38:48Speaker 2: Tense.
- 1:38:49Speaker 5: So this is why they make so much money? Yeah, yeah,
- 1:38:52Speaker 5: and it was hard. It was a tough situation for Yeah.
- 1:38:54Speaker 8: I don't necessarily think it was the line of questioning. Fully,
- 1:38:57Speaker 8: I think that he thought that they didn't play very well.
- 1:39:00Speaker 5: Tough performance.
- 1:39:01Speaker 9: Yeah, and uh.
- 1:39:04Speaker 2: Market a point. Yeah, it's so bad, I don't even
- 1:39:07Speaker 2: want to talk.
- 1:39:07Speaker 9: He seemed pretty frustrated.
- 1:39:08Speaker 5: It should have looked a lot better than that in
- 1:39:10Speaker 5: the first half. Can we all agree?
- 1:39:11Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:39:12Speaker 5: I mean, what was it thirty how many thirty five?
- 1:39:15Speaker 7: Players didn't dress for washing for Washington, right, and you
- 1:39:20Speaker 7: really didn't push them around like you should have. Dominated
- 1:39:24Speaker 7: you had enough for you. The patriot didn't play all
- 1:39:26Speaker 7: their starters either. Before I know that that's been sort
- 1:39:28Speaker 7: of you know your starters again, the Patriots didn't play
- 1:39:31Speaker 7: all their starters. I think plenty of guys didn't.
- 1:39:33Speaker 2: Play the second series. There were only a couple guys
- 1:39:35Speaker 2: that might start.
- 1:39:36Speaker 5: But they should have been pushing people around and they weren't. Yeah,
- 1:39:40Speaker 5: that's two weeks in a row.
- 1:39:42Speaker 3: Backup lineman getting pushed around, you know, backup defensive line.
- 1:39:44Speaker 3: I just gotta say. One funny thing, though, is when
- 1:39:46Speaker 3: we heard the next question, I was like, oh, I
- 1:39:48Speaker 3: haven't heard that in a while. And then Paul's like,
- 1:39:50Speaker 3: I've heard I throw back. They'll throw back to Drew Bledsoe,
- 1:39:53Speaker 3: that's question.
- 1:39:55Speaker 2: Uh, Jack writes in Plunkett got pummeled because he had
- 1:39:59Speaker 2: no O line. He got hurt. Same thing will happen
- 1:40:02Speaker 2: to may fix the line before starting him.
- 1:40:05Speaker 9: Well then we're gonna be here for now.
- 1:40:06Speaker 3: I just don't even know.
- 1:40:07Speaker 5: I know, and as much as scream of Patriots media guy, no,
- 1:40:12Speaker 5: not that I can say.
- 1:40:13Speaker 3: What do you need you should put it on our coffee.
- 1:40:15Speaker 2: I know everything. What do you need to know? Oh? There?
- 1:40:17Speaker 2: They are like, oh that's right there?
- 1:40:19Speaker 15: What what?
- 1:40:19Speaker 4: What?
- 1:40:19Speaker 7: What so much Jim plunk like the Jim Plunkett thing
- 1:40:23Speaker 7: like Tony Mas is me like crawls up my tailpipe? Okay,
- 1:40:26Speaker 7: Like yeah, you know what. Jim Plunkett was a Heisman
- 1:40:29Speaker 7: Trophy winner and I'm more on overall pick. He's a
- 1:40:32Speaker 7: really athletic kid coming out of Stanford. It was but
- 1:40:34Speaker 7: way before my time to watch the you know, the
- 1:40:37Speaker 7: real details. It was way before my time. I never
- 1:40:40Speaker 7: saw Jim Plunkett play a game as a Patriots quarterback,
- 1:40:43Speaker 7: Like I wasn't old enough to understand know when he
- 1:40:45Speaker 7: was the quarterback. By year three, they had drafted John Hannah,
- 1:40:49Speaker 7: who people think is the greatest offensive lineman ever. So
- 1:40:53Speaker 7: seventy one, seventy two, seventy three, your first round pick
- 1:40:56Speaker 7: is John Hannah and it still didn't work and by
- 1:41:00Speaker 7: seventy six you had to trade him. So was it
- 1:41:02Speaker 7: because he like he just wasn't as good as everybody thought,
- 1:41:05Speaker 7: or did he get beat up and he.
- 1:41:06Speaker 5: Just can't play? Like that offensive line turned into one
- 1:41:09Speaker 5: of the greatest offensive lines in the history of football
- 1:41:12Speaker 5: with John Hannah as the as the main cog. Bill
- 1:41:17Speaker 5: Lenkitis was part of those offensive line.
- 1:41:19Speaker 2: It didn't ruin Jim Plunkett. He went on to Oakland
- 1:41:22Speaker 2: and had a pretty good career.
- 1:41:23Speaker 5: Yeah, by handing the ball off and watching Marcus Allen
- 1:41:25Speaker 5: run seventy five yards. Everybody thinks that like this through
- 1:41:28Speaker 5: magic epiphany. No they didn't.
- 1:41:30Speaker 7: This magic epiphany happened twelve years after he left New
- 1:41:33Speaker 7: England and he was handing the ball off and winning
- 1:41:36Speaker 7: titles behind a great program with the Raiders. Like, I
- 1:41:41Speaker 7: don't know, maybe Jim Plunkett would have been better if
- 1:41:43Speaker 7: he had more around him in seventy one.
- 1:41:46Speaker 5: I would grant that.
- 1:41:46Speaker 2: I would admit that Fred Blitnakoff.
- 1:41:50Speaker 5: Fred Bolittnakoff, Yeah, how many passes Jim Plunkett throw to him?
- 1:41:53Speaker 2: I don't know. They didn't play together.
- 1:41:55Speaker 7: No, they probably did, but like Cliff Branch and Fred
- 1:41:58Speaker 7: Blittnikoff weren't what they were when Ken Stabler.
- 1:42:02Speaker 5: Was the quarterback Rails time. I just like the whole
- 1:42:08Speaker 5: Jim Puckett got killed in New England thing, like, yeah,
- 1:42:13Speaker 5: I guess you know, I guess he did I know
- 1:42:15Speaker 5: that's the that's the common refrain, but that doesn't mean
- 1:42:18Speaker 5: it was accurate.
- 1:42:19Speaker 3: No, But do you know what I mean?
- 1:42:21Speaker 2: No, but Pluckett was a good quarterback.
- 1:42:23Speaker 5: He was the number one overall pick. Of course he
- 1:42:26Speaker 5: was good.
- 1:42:26Speaker 2: I mean like when he went to the Raiders he
- 1:42:28Speaker 2: turned out to be.
- 1:42:29Speaker 5: Why didn't he play any good in San Francisco?
- 1:42:32Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:42:32Speaker 5: So if you're really good, you're good, like I don't know.
- 1:42:37Speaker 5: But but a couple of years later in Oakland he
- 1:42:39Speaker 5: was really good. He wasn't really good, he was. He
- 1:42:41Speaker 5: was kind of a game manager in Oakland. They want
- 1:42:45Speaker 5: they won a couple of titles, pretty good. They won
- 1:42:47Speaker 5: a couple of titles with him, And people think that
- 1:42:49Speaker 5: he was great. He wasn't.
- 1:42:50Speaker 8: I want to hear Fred blinkoff Antonio Brown. The other
- 1:42:53Speaker 8: day there was like a ranking of the top ten
- 1:42:55Speaker 8: receivers of all time, and he was like eighth and
- 1:42:58Speaker 8: Don Hudson was seventh.
- 1:42:59Speaker 9: And he was like, the hell is Don Hudson?
- 1:43:01Speaker 7: Like it's actually Don Hudson had one hundred touchdown receptions
- 1:43:05Speaker 7: in an era when they didn't even throw one hundred
- 1:43:07Speaker 7: pass I know I know who is because Bill Belichick
- 1:43:11Speaker 7: used to teach just who he was and with Antonio Brown, Yeah,
- 1:43:15Speaker 7: like do Don Hudson in your own I was gonna say.
- 1:43:18Speaker 3: One interesting thing to me, though, is you know, Cincinnati
- 1:43:21Speaker 3: a lot of problems on their line with Burrow. It's
- 1:43:23Speaker 3: been a big talking point how bad.
- 1:43:25Speaker 5: Ye yahook year.
- 1:43:26Speaker 9: But but they've had a super Bowl year too, and.
- 1:43:29Speaker 3: Even this year, Like they signed Trump Brown, they draft Mims,
- 1:43:32Speaker 3: they signed who the other guy left tackle? Like you know,
- 1:43:35Speaker 3: it's it's not like everything will be fine, Like there's
- 1:43:37Speaker 3: always problems. You're always trying to figure it out. And
- 1:43:40Speaker 3: like the offensive line is five guys, like it's never gonna.
- 1:43:43Speaker 5: Be per first offensive line in football lost in the Super.
- 1:43:46Speaker 9: Bowl the outside Jamar Chase and t Hagen.
- 1:43:49Speaker 7: But whatever, This is my point, Like this is not
- 1:43:52Speaker 7: necessarily related to Drake may. This is like it's not
- 1:43:55Speaker 7: a catch all. If you're behind an offensive line, I
- 1:43:57Speaker 7: means you can't play. Like, if you're good, you're gonna
- 1:44:00Speaker 7: find a way to make plays and you'll show enough.
- 1:44:03Speaker 9: Of how good you can be.
- 1:44:04Speaker 2: And if your coaches are good, you figure out how
- 1:44:06Speaker 2: to you know, Yeah.
- 1:44:08Speaker 7: Especially now the way they do it, the ball comes
- 1:44:10Speaker 7: out so quick, like at least with Jim Plunkett, the
- 1:44:13Speaker 7: people that you know, it was a different time. He
- 1:44:15Speaker 7: was probably you know, in a lot of bad situations,
- 1:44:18Speaker 7: losing and having to throw and maybe he got killed.
- 1:44:21Speaker 5: Like again, I never saw any games.
- 1:44:23Speaker 8: I mean there were still seven steps dropping from under
- 1:44:25Speaker 8: center when Jim Punktt.
- 1:44:26Speaker 5: Was That's what I'm saying. You get to snap the
- 1:44:31Speaker 5: balls out like.
- 1:44:34Speaker 3: A Burrow. And Burrow's done what he's done in those situations.
- 1:44:37Speaker 7: But his acl as a rookie because you put him
- 1:44:39Speaker 7: behind a bat off its linemark. I don't know if
- 1:44:41Speaker 7: you know, I don't know if you've heard that story.
- 1:44:42Speaker 3: No, it's just it's it's it's always a struggle, like
- 1:44:44Speaker 3: you can you know, draft what Kelvin Bankster Will Campbell
- 1:44:46Speaker 3: next year? And like, okay, it doesn't mean that all
- 1:44:49Speaker 3: right now, it's.
- 1:44:49Speaker 9: Well they draft Will Campbell will be done? Like that guy,
- 1:44:53Speaker 9: Let's go to.
- 1:44:54Speaker 2: Adam in California? What's up Adam, Adam calif for Kendall
- 1:45:03Speaker 2: in North Carolina?
- 1:45:04Speaker 3: What's up?
- 1:45:04Speaker 2: Kendall roasted?
- 1:45:06Speaker 21: Hey, what's going on?
- 1:45:07Speaker 12: Hey?
- 1:45:09Speaker 21: I got a question. If the plan this year isn't
- 1:45:12Speaker 21: about winning, man, they probably not going to play because
- 1:45:15Speaker 21: it doesn't allow how are we going to creatos next year?
- 1:45:18Speaker 21: I mean, you're probably just gonna get passed on, like
- 1:45:21Speaker 21: you know how good you did? How we how do
- 1:45:24Speaker 21: we just get gregeous look be able to make syear
- 1:45:27Speaker 21: if we're not trying to win this year, may at
- 1:45:30Speaker 21: it because it offers.
- 1:45:33Speaker 8: Yeah, I've been on that. I mean, I feel like
- 1:45:36Speaker 8: that's my whole point. And I but Drake will play
- 1:45:39Speaker 8: eventually this year. I think we're all in agreement on that.
- 1:45:42Speaker 8: So hopefully he shows some flashes, you know, whenever he
- 1:45:44Speaker 8: does get into the game. But that is a factory.
- 1:45:48Speaker 8: He needs to show something to showcase himself. Because it's
- 1:45:52Speaker 8: true a lot of these receivers in free agency are
- 1:45:55Speaker 8: at least in part turning them down because they don't
- 1:45:57Speaker 8: have a quarterback.
- 1:45:58Speaker 9: And maybe they do have a quarterback.
- 1:46:00Speaker 8: Now it almost feels like I'm worried about everything else
- 1:46:03Speaker 8: besides the quarterback.
- 1:46:04Speaker 15: Now.
- 1:46:05Speaker 2: It's very odd, but that's kind of a good problem, right,
- 1:46:09Speaker 2: because it's harder to fix other things as long as
- 1:46:12Speaker 2: we're right right right, Jordan and Hawaii, I have a hypothetical.
- 1:46:17Speaker 2: I know it's hard to speculate, but knowing what you
- 1:46:19Speaker 2: know now about this team. If you were Elliott Wolf
- 1:46:23Speaker 2: and you could go back in time to the draft
- 1:46:25Speaker 2: and trade all the picks you have to get up
- 1:46:28Speaker 2: in the draft and take would you do that to
- 1:46:30Speaker 2: get a premium tackle or option B? Would you not
- 1:46:34Speaker 2: have taken Drake May and instead got that tackle? Just curious?
- 1:46:39Speaker 2: Would you go back you.
- 1:46:41Speaker 7: Got to take And so we're saying take May and
- 1:46:44Speaker 7: then take all the rest of them and get a
- 1:46:46Speaker 7: left tackle.
- 1:46:46Speaker 2: Yes, so take May but forfeit all the other picks
- 1:46:51Speaker 2: for a premium left tackle.
- 1:46:53Speaker 9: Well that I mean, it's not very realistic. This is
- 1:46:56Speaker 9: not draft day.
- 1:46:58Speaker 8: But yeah, I definitely here in the argument of they
- 1:47:03Speaker 8: had some trades, it seems like some talks about getting
- 1:47:06Speaker 8: back into the end of the first round. Some people
- 1:47:09Speaker 8: had speculated it was for one of the receivers. Others
- 1:47:11Speaker 8: had speculated it was for Tyler Guyton, who ended up
- 1:47:14Speaker 8: getting drafted by Dallas, who plays tackle. If they I
- 1:47:18Speaker 8: don't we don't know what the packages were that were
- 1:47:21Speaker 8: being offered. But if let's say they had an offer
- 1:47:24Speaker 8: on the table for like a second in their fourth
- 1:47:27Speaker 8: round pick this year, maybe in pick into next year,
- 1:47:29Speaker 8: do I now feel like it's fair to second guess
- 1:47:31Speaker 8: that they didn't pull the trigger on that trade. I
- 1:47:33Speaker 8: would say probably yes, But at the same time, like
- 1:47:36Speaker 8: Tyler Guyton could be out here and maybe he's not ready.
- 1:47:39Speaker 9: And it's not you know, he's a rookie too, he's
- 1:47:40Speaker 9: up and down. Yeah, and it's a late first round pick,
- 1:47:43Speaker 9: so you know, that would.
- 1:47:44Speaker 7: Have been in favor of that if they could have
- 1:47:46Speaker 7: made a trade like like Evan just explained, Yeah, that
- 1:47:48Speaker 7: would I would have taken a left tackle at the
- 1:47:50Speaker 7: end of the first round if they could have done that.
- 1:47:52Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 1:47:52Speaker 8: That's the second guess of the draft to me is
- 1:47:54Speaker 8: that the tackle parade kind of went by and they
- 1:47:57Speaker 8: watched it good.
- 1:47:58Speaker 2: Who's to say they didn't try, you know, yeah, you
- 1:48:01Speaker 2: know you just said yeah. David Bethlehem, Uh three points.
- 1:48:06Speaker 2: He says, yes, always flush floaters, be considerate and leave
- 1:48:10Speaker 2: the seed if women use it.
- 1:48:13Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 1:48:15Speaker 5: Fred still doesn't get that.
- 1:48:16Speaker 2: I do now. Uh Mao's comment about Jacoby's body of
- 1:48:20Speaker 2: work is misleading. Uh Mayo, Van Pelt, and McAdoo are
- 1:48:24Speaker 2: loath to admit their strategy failed. Briseets knowledge of a
- 1:48:28Speaker 2: playbook that he and the Old Line poorly execute is wrong.
- 1:48:32Speaker 2: Brissett's body of past work does not indicate his present performance.
- 1:48:38Speaker 8: I understand the part about it their plan being wrong.
- 1:48:40Speaker 8: There they drafted Drake May and it looks like it's
- 1:48:43Speaker 8: going pretty well.
- 1:48:44Speaker 2: I think maybe he thinks that their strategy is they
- 1:48:47Speaker 2: knew from day one they were going to start per set.
- 1:48:50Speaker 3: I don't know, well, I think that's a point, though
- 1:48:53Speaker 3: he could debate of you know, should May have gotten
- 1:48:56Speaker 3: more opportunities, and part just to play with the ones
- 1:48:58Speaker 3: and play behind the top line.
- 1:49:00Speaker 2: Heart that his third point is May has progressed faster
- 1:49:04Speaker 2: than projected. On what planet does the team deliberately choose
- 1:49:07Speaker 2: to play an obviously less talented player. The real unspoken
- 1:49:11Speaker 2: reason Colon Pat's schedule is very hard and there is
- 1:49:15Speaker 2: a chance he could get injured, So Brissett could get
- 1:49:17Speaker 2: injured first, May and Milton will have to be mobile
- 1:49:20Speaker 2: run for their lives. Coaching and play schemes for sedentary
- 1:49:24Speaker 2: Brissett are much different than for mobile May Milton. I'm
- 1:49:27Speaker 2: afraid that AVP squandered the preseason.
- 1:49:31Speaker 8: So just to go back, I'm sorry, I'm not trying
- 1:49:33Speaker 8: to attack the emailer, but go ahead. He said that
- 1:49:37Speaker 8: the that there's never been a quarterback that's been more
- 1:49:40Speaker 8: talented that sat Tyrod Taylor started the season for the
- 1:49:44Speaker 8: Chargers over Justin Herbert, right, Like, there's no doubt in
- 1:49:48Speaker 8: anybody's mind that Justin Herbert is a better quarterback and
- 1:49:50Speaker 8: more talented than Tyrod Taylor was. But they were in
- 1:49:53Speaker 8: a similar position as the Patriots.
- 1:49:55Speaker 5: Are in now where Patrick Mahomes and Alex Smith.
- 1:49:57Speaker 8: Yeah, Patrick Mahomes Alex Smith a good one. Nathan Peterman
- 1:50:02Speaker 8: started over Josh Allen in Buffalo.
- 1:50:04Speaker 5: Like, there's a lot of situation.
- 1:50:05Speaker 7: I mean, if you wanted to really be like a jerk,
- 1:50:08Speaker 7: and I understand this is the Andy Hart to the
- 1:50:11Speaker 7: nth degree example, do it? Could you make an argument
- 1:50:13Speaker 7: that Jimmy Garoppolo has more talent than John Brady?
- 1:50:17Speaker 11: I would.
- 1:50:19Speaker 2: Jimmy Garoppolo is more talent physically talented than Tom Brady.
- 1:50:22Speaker 5: Yes, I would.
- 1:50:23Speaker 7: Now, where it gets blown out of the water is
- 1:50:26Speaker 7: everything else that is required of a quarterback. There was
- 1:50:30Speaker 7: nobody better than Tom Brady. But from a physical just
- 1:50:32Speaker 7: a physical skill set standpoint, Garoppolo had a better release,
- 1:50:37Speaker 7: he moved better in the pocket, he was a better athlete,
- 1:50:40Speaker 7: didn't matter he wasn't anywhere near the quarterback that Tom
- 1:50:44Speaker 7: Brady was. That's not what we're talking about here with
- 1:50:46Speaker 7: Brissett in May. But I'm just saying, like, let's not
- 1:50:49Speaker 7: use terms like why would you ever start the lesser
- 1:50:52Speaker 7: talented guy. If you thought to let the lesser talented
- 1:50:54Speaker 7: guy was more prepared to run your offense, you'd start him.
- 1:50:58Speaker 7: Like That's why now I don't agree with him. I
- 1:51:00Speaker 7: think May is perfectly ready based on admittedly, you know,
- 1:51:05Speaker 7: three weeks of training camp. That's what I'm basing on.
- 1:51:08Speaker 7: That's all I have, so the only data I have.
- 1:51:11Speaker 5: I think he looks like he's ready enough to play,
- 1:51:15Speaker 5: and he's so far advanced from a skill set set
- 1:51:19Speaker 5: standpoint that to me, it's not even close.
- 1:51:22Speaker 2: Dylan writes in I know everyone is upset about the offense,
- 1:51:25Speaker 2: mainly the old line, but I just want to say
- 1:51:28Speaker 2: nothing in football matters that much if you don't have
- 1:51:30Speaker 2: a top five ish quarterback. That's what it's all about.
- 1:51:34Speaker 2: The old line and weapons aren't impossible to get. I'm
- 1:51:37Speaker 2: no quarterback girl, but I grew up playing quarterback my
- 1:51:40Speaker 2: whole life, played some college and come from a family
- 1:51:44Speaker 2: of quarterback coaches. Drake May looks good. He really does.
- 1:51:48Speaker 2: I don't know how good he'll be, but I knew
- 1:51:50Speaker 2: right away the last guy wasn't going to be in
- 1:51:53Speaker 2: that category, and this guy might be. And that's what
- 1:51:57Speaker 2: everyone should be excited about. Drake May is my favorite
- 1:52:00Speaker 2: type of quarterback, the guy who can throw it. There's
- 1:52:03Speaker 2: too many quarterbacks out there now that can seemingly do
- 1:52:06Speaker 2: everything else and they're throwing. Isn't their best ability. Give
- 1:52:10Speaker 2: me the big athletic guy who has a good arm
- 1:52:13Speaker 2: and we can work on the footwork and other stuff.
- 1:52:15Speaker 2: I'm excited to watch Drake develop.
- 1:52:18Speaker 3: Amen.
- 1:52:19Speaker 9: I agree with everything besides the running thing.
- 1:52:22Speaker 2: But he comes from a quarterback family, yeah, and coaches what.
- 1:52:26Speaker 3: Was his name, Kyle Shanahan.
- 1:52:28Speaker 2: This guy Brian becomes from the Gagney family.
- 1:52:33Speaker 5: The Gagney family, Okay, I'm familiar with that.
- 1:52:35Speaker 2: Fani, you know you don't run across them.
- 1:52:39Speaker 3: And Everett, No, No, he's not from evert someone know
- 1:52:43Speaker 3: that he would if a KB guru lived in every
- 1:52:45Speaker 3: Paul would probably.
- 1:52:46Speaker 5: That means I would have worked very happy.
- 1:52:50Speaker 9: People are starting to come around.
- 1:52:52Speaker 5: Power I right, twenty two lead. It's on one.
- 1:52:56Speaker 3: On you ever throw the first sound in there, just
- 1:53:00Speaker 3: to keep me.
- 1:53:00Speaker 7: The first sound was only short yard and yeah, and
- 1:53:02Speaker 7: usually that was when I got my head kicked out.
- 1:53:04Speaker 5: On the quarterback sneak What hold did that? It was
- 1:53:06Speaker 5: not Tom Brady when it came to quarterbacks sneak?
- 1:53:08Speaker 2: What hold did that?
- 1:53:09Speaker 11: Play? Go through?
- 1:53:10Speaker 2: Left or right?
- 1:53:11Speaker 5: Thirty two power? I right twenty two lead would be
- 1:53:13Speaker 5: on the left side, left side?
- 1:53:15Speaker 2: Which hole? Big gap, the big gap, the big gap. Okay,
- 1:53:18Speaker 2: so you numbers and letters three, I like numbers better.
- 1:53:23Speaker 5: Number went on even it was two four six eight
- 1:53:26Speaker 5: three yeah, three five seven n yeah, I like better.
- 1:53:29Speaker 5: The even left right three technique.
- 1:53:33Speaker 3: Yeah, I love my playbook. That was one of my
- 1:53:35Speaker 3: most favorite parts when I played freshman football was getting
- 1:53:37Speaker 3: my helmet. Of course we know that, and my playbook
- 1:53:40Speaker 3: and I the first, you know, first day of the
- 1:53:42Speaker 3: coach asked the question I knew, and then you play
- 1:53:45Speaker 3: this guy get to play. Yeah, well it's like thirty
- 1:53:49Speaker 3: two dives the same thing. You know, it's like all right,
- 1:53:50Speaker 3: half back through you know, the big gap, like you know,
- 1:53:53Speaker 3: but you could tell who studied their playbook and I
- 1:53:55Speaker 3: did because I liked.
- 1:53:56Speaker 2: Jay and Minnesota rights in seeing how much Drake has
- 1:53:59Speaker 2: improved so far. Do you think that him not starting
- 1:54:03Speaker 2: week one might slow down his progress? We've talked about
- 1:54:06Speaker 2: this at finitem. We all know that playing football makes
- 1:54:10Speaker 2: you better at football. I'm hoping they realize he seems
- 1:54:13Speaker 2: to be picking up on his mistakes and getting better
- 1:54:16Speaker 2: at his mechanics. I think it's easier for him to
- 1:54:19Speaker 2: tweak his throwing motion if he's playing early and realizing
- 1:54:23Speaker 2: he can't pump and needs to bring the ball up.
- 1:54:26Speaker 9: Yeah, I think that could all be true.
- 1:54:28Speaker 8: It is the fear that you have is that it's
- 1:54:30Speaker 8: going to lead to mistakes, which is going to shoot
- 1:54:32Speaker 8: his confidence down right like that. That's what we're all
- 1:54:35Speaker 8: worried about when it comes to these types of things.
- 1:54:37Speaker 8: But we had to call her. That was called in
- 1:54:39Speaker 8: about you know, said that he's this pretty smart kid,
- 1:54:42Speaker 8: and we were talking to TC McCartney. One thing that
- 1:54:44Speaker 8: he pointed out was that when Drake May comes off
- 1:54:48Speaker 8: the field and him and Van Pelt asked him, hey,
- 1:54:50Speaker 8: what were you seeing out there? His recollection of the
- 1:54:54Speaker 8: coverages is like spot on.
- 1:54:57Speaker 2: Is that documented what you're saying right now? Or that something?
- 1:55:00Speaker 2: What did you hear that?
- 1:55:02Speaker 9: Yeah?
- 1:55:04Speaker 8: Yeah, it's probably in what we have somewhere and uh
- 1:55:07Speaker 8: and he said that, you know, he comes off the
- 1:55:09Speaker 8: field and he's like just like this, like they were
- 1:55:12Speaker 8: in this coverage. They were this is what happened, this
- 1:55:14Speaker 8: is why I did this, This.
- 1:55:15Speaker 2: Is what that's what you want what I want to hear.
- 1:55:17Speaker 5: Yeah, that's what we heard about young Tom Brady.
- 1:55:20Speaker 2: Yeah, oh yeah, that's why I want to hear it memory.
- 1:55:23Speaker 8: And I had asked him about in the press conference.
- 1:55:27Speaker 8: I had asked him about a play and about the
- 1:55:30Speaker 8: broken play that you threw to kJ Osborne and uh,
- 1:55:33Speaker 8: he called it a cloud coverage and he knew exactly
- 1:55:37Speaker 8: what they and I turned on the film the next
- 1:55:39Speaker 8: day and sure enough, there there was. I was like
- 1:55:41Speaker 8: that he didn't even he didn't see the replay, Like
- 1:55:43Speaker 8: he doesn't, you know, he's not looking at it back.
- 1:55:47Speaker 9: It's pretty impressive.
- 1:55:49Speaker 3: It's all appear still trapped.
- 1:55:50Speaker 2: Play may play may right.
- 1:55:52Speaker 9: I mean, I've been there since April.
- 1:55:53Speaker 2: All right, so what do we got the rest of
- 1:55:56Speaker 2: the day cuts the becoming well, you know, finalize them
- 1:56:00Speaker 2: and we'll make them official on Patriots dot Com when
- 1:56:02Speaker 2: they happen. So far, you know, Bailey Zappi, I think
- 1:56:06Speaker 2: was the big news today Ryland Land. If Kevin Harris
- 1:56:11Speaker 2: is true to me, that's a mild surprise, you know.
