Days later, he's dead. That man was a rail and Pope, a

writer who gave us haunting mansions, beating hearts under

floorboards, mass plagues, and a Raven that that croaked

Nevermore. But his life was a his.

His life was as haunted as his imagination.

A childhood loss, a a career of brilliance and poverty, a love

story cut short and a death that remains unsolved to this very

day. This is the legacy of Edgar

Allan Poe. The mystery, the madness, the

legacy. He was born on January 19th, 18

His father abandoned the family and his mother died of

tuberculosis when Poe was just two years old.

John Allen was a stern Scottish businessman Francis Francis was

nurturing this divided the household that shaped Poe, torn

From 1815 to 1820, the Allen's lived in England and Scotland,

and young Egger studied the in gothic surroundings, old

cemeteries, foggy Moors and cathedrals.

These images would later steep into his writing.

Back in Virginia, Poe was excelled in language and

literature. At the University of Virginia,

he studied Latin, poetry and the classics.

But Allen gave a little. But Alan gave him little to no

financial support to survive. So PO gambled, racking up debts

that forced him out of college. Just one year later, a letter

that PO wrote in 1829. I've made, I'm sorry, I have

been made to drink deep of the cup of sorrow.

Yeah, well, let's get into the breakthrough and rise of Poe.

At 18, Poe enlisted into the US Army.

The Allen's Edgar Edgar A Perry. During this time, he published

his first poetry collection, Tamerlane and Other Poems.

In 1830, he entered West Point but deliberately neglected his

duties to get expelled. He wanted to write, he wanted

River Reviews and earned him the fame and his enemies, which then

much of now what we know is Poe in a lot of that, which is kind

controversies and conflicts. PO had a reputation for

alcoholism, though modern scholars debate whether he was a

chronic drinker or simply unable to just find handle a small,

small amounts of alcohol. So he might have just been a

really cheap drunk, but who knows?

He's been so long. So long people theorize it's all

just rumors of drug ruse, particularly opium, circled

through evidence. And his evidence is that he's
