- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Hey my friend.
- 0:01SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Daily Writer, where we help writers become authors of their own lives.
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: I was talking with a good friend the other day, and we both observed that a lot of people that we know seem to be in what we call waiting mode.
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: Some people are waiting for medical issues to be resolved.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: Some people are waiting for new clients.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: Some people are waiting for a third party to come through on some kind of agreement they have.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: Some people are waiting to hear about a job opportunity.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: Some people are waiting for a relationship issue to be resolved one way or the other.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: No matter the situation, waiting is really frustrating.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: And I think that we can all agree on that.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: There are some things I'm waiting on in my own life.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: And just like me, you probably have some things that you're waiting on as well.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: But while we're all waiting for that next win, whatever that might be, and however we might define it, we can still move the ball forward in our lives.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: And I think that's the difference between passive and active waiting.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: Let me explain what I mean by that.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: Passive waiting means that you're not doing anything while you wait.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: You get angry, you get frustrated, and it feels like your whole life is on hold until whatever situation is that's causing you to be angry is resolved.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: Now, active waiting, on the other hand, is totally different.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: It means that you're taking advantage of the extra time that you have to prepare for when those results or when that win comes through.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: You realize that you can't always control external results, of course, but you can control how you respond and how you use your time and energy.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: That's the difference between active and passive waiting.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: And to that end, I suggest three actions that you can take while you're waiting for that answer, for that result, or for that resolution.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: And these all come back to the idea of active waiting.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: First of all, and this is going to sound really simple and maybe a little juvenile, but first of all, clean up any messes that you have.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: And I mean that literally.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: Clean up those messes in your office, your garage, your desk, your car, wherever it is.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: When you do that, it brings positive energy and a sense of control and renewal in your life.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: Second of all, while you're waiting, tackle a big project that's not related to what you're waiting for.
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: Maybe it's diving into that book that you've been putting off or redesigning your website or something else.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: Third, have that conversation that you've been avoiding.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: I know, I know, nobody wants to hear about having those hard conversations because we all like to avoid them, don't we?
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: But the truth is that when we have those hard conversations, it resolves lingering issues that are kind of like a cloud over your life.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: I actually just in the past week, I had a couple of difficult conversations.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: They weren't, you know, ultra painful conversations like, you know, super come to Jesus meetings type of a thing.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: But they were both things where I had to confront someone, and they were not major, major issues, but I had to confront a couple of people about a couple of things that had just been bothering me and things that needed to be resolved.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: And it's out of my character to confront people because I don't like conflict and I'm a very peaceful and chill kind of a guy.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: But sometimes you just have to take the bull by the horns and have that difficult conversation.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: And sometimes it's things that have been bothering you for a long time.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: And when you do that, it gives you a sense of agency and control in your life, both of which translate to every other area of your life.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: So again, I want to encourage you to do these three things, which are clean up messes, tackle a big project, and have that hard conversation you've been avoiding.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: You know, one of my favorite musicians, Rich Mullins, who passed away decades ago, he once sang, the truth is that it can be so hard to wait.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: And man, ain't that the truth, as they say?
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: I don't like waiting either.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: It's really hard.
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: It's an inevitable part of life.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: But we don't have to passively wait for things to turn out in our favor.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: We can still move the ball forward in life, even when things feel like they're in limbo.
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: And I think these three tips that I've shared on this episode today are really going to help.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: Because in the end, it's all about being ready and prepared for when that big moment comes.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: Well, how do you stay patient and calm while you're waiting?
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: I'd love to know.
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: You can shoot me an email at Kent at KentSanders.net.
- 4:07SPEAKER_00: Well, hey, as always, thanks for listening.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: Keep writing, keep showing up, and I'll see you tomorrow.
