- 0:22Speaker 2: The rut has been rocking and Roland. It is Thanksgiving
- 0:25Speaker 2: week and I am very thankful for many things in
- 0:28Speaker 2: this world, and I am thankful that this gear are
- 0:30Speaker 2: still doing the thing. This is rot Fresh.
- 0:32Speaker 3: Let's go.
- 0:47Speaker 2: What's going on? Everyone? Welcome to rut Fresh Radio, rock
- 0:50Speaker 2: you by First Light Gear. I'm your host k C.
- 0:53Speaker 3: Smith.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Tyler Jones is here as well, and want to inform
- 0:55Speaker 2: you first and foremost that you need to be thankful.
- 0:58Speaker 2: You have a lot to be thankful for. I don't
- 1:00Speaker 2: care who you are.
- 1:01Speaker 3: Don't do this to me. Why you know what you're doing?
- 1:03Speaker 2: No, I don't. It's it's for real, man. I mean,
- 1:06Speaker 2: there's there's just the air we breathe, the woods outside,
- 1:11Speaker 2: the near running around. You know, the life that we've
- 1:14Speaker 2: been gifted is a blessing and I'm thankful for it.
- 1:18Speaker 2: If you are the kind of person who thinks that
- 1:21Speaker 2: you might want to buy some gifts for some people.
- 1:24Speaker 2: First Light is having a Black Friday seal, right, now,
- 1:26Speaker 2: you can go in there and get you all kinds
- 1:28Speaker 2: of good stuff. You can even have it in time
- 1:31Speaker 2: for some winter hunting if you want to.
- 1:34Speaker 3: Are we going to have a first Light cell at
- 1:35Speaker 3: the Element? What do you mean? Sorry? Are we going
- 1:40Speaker 3: to have a Black Friday cell at the Element? Maybe?
- 1:44Speaker 3: I hope, So, I don't know, I hope. So we
- 1:49Speaker 3: were fixing me selling some T shirts and shirts and stuff.
- 1:52Speaker 3: So I'm pretty scad about that. Yeah, But I'm most
- 1:54Speaker 3: excited this week for hen. Turkey's on my plate? Dude,
- 2:00Speaker 3: do you have one to eat? And I mean, I
- 2:02Speaker 3: got a turkey. I'm sure my mom's gonna make a
- 2:04Speaker 3: turkey for us. I'm sure, but I don't know if
- 2:05Speaker 3: it's gonna be a hen. But what do you think
- 2:07Speaker 3: they do? You can't make it? God will sound very
- 2:09Speaker 3: good with my mouth. What do you think they do
- 2:11Speaker 3: with all the hens?
- 2:11Speaker 2: Because I think that the most of is that what
- 2:15Speaker 2: it is, They just all go into production. I think
- 2:17Speaker 2: so the majority of turkey that's eating is probably gobs.
- 2:22Speaker 2: If there if you're cooking a big guy or a
- 2:24Speaker 2: big turkey. It's probably a god right, Yeah, it's gotta be. Yeah,
- 2:28Speaker 2: that's interesting. Yeah, I bet it's like cattle man.
- 2:31Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:32Speaker 2: I beat heifers too.
- 2:34Speaker 3: Yeah, but they're mostly eating steers and letting them Yeah,
- 2:38Speaker 3: halfsp so probably so.
- 2:40Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, Tyler, it's a weird time of year. But
- 2:47Speaker 2: I can tell you that just from some of our
- 2:50Speaker 2: recent experiences. I'm gonna be honest with you. I had
- 2:55Speaker 2: a little bit of the oh no, it's over. I
- 2:58Speaker 2: missed my operaortunity. Did you I did? When did you
- 3:01Speaker 2: have that? Probably driving home about a week and a
- 3:04Speaker 2: half ago. It felt like once we got to the
- 3:07Speaker 2: twenties in the dates that it was just like man,
- 3:12Speaker 2: no more. Really, I felt I felt better about the
- 3:14Speaker 2: second I know you do. I think that it's because
- 3:17Speaker 2: you just have a little more experience hunting some of
- 3:21Speaker 2: the Midwestern stuff in the later dates than I do.
- 3:24Speaker 2: I've just well, one year, I did kill a buck
- 3:27Speaker 2: on the twenty third, but outside of that, I've killed
- 3:30Speaker 2: a deer fifteenth and earlier pretty much anytime I've hunted
- 3:34Speaker 2: the Midwest, and you're so good. No, it's just because
- 3:37Speaker 2: I'm willing to shoot smaller deer than you, no whatever
- 3:41Speaker 2: do I do think, you know, to just kind of
- 3:44Speaker 2: offer that encouragement that we do to try to be
- 3:47Speaker 2: pretty encouraging around here. Man, deer doing the thing almost
- 3:52Speaker 2: until the new year in most of the country, as
- 3:55Speaker 2: weird as that sounds, and especially in the next couple
- 3:57Speaker 2: of weeks, right, I mean, and truth be told, even
- 4:04Speaker 2: once kind of the rut does seem to be over,
- 4:06Speaker 2: you know, bed to food is still a really good
- 4:08Speaker 2: way to kill a deer. Yeah, And so like there's
- 4:10Speaker 2: just a lot of opportunity out there. I don't know.
- 4:13Speaker 2: One of the things I kind of learned throughout this
- 4:15Speaker 2: rut is that I might not actually like the rut
- 4:19Speaker 2: as much as I thought I did. Really, Yeah, you're
- 4:22Speaker 2: a little bit of inpredicted, unpredictable for sure.
- 4:25Speaker 3: Right now, What if you were a guy who only
- 4:29Speaker 3: had five acres, would you like the rut more?
- 4:32Speaker 4: You think?
- 4:35Speaker 2: And I only hunted that.
- 4:37Speaker 3: I guess what I'm saying is like if you didn't
- 4:39Speaker 3: have because you got a couple of nice private tracks
- 4:41Speaker 3: to hunt, yeah, and so do I. And there that's
- 4:45Speaker 3: because we hunt together. I mean, if if you deer
- 4:52Speaker 3: in public, if you're in public or something like that.
- 4:54Speaker 3: You may like the rut better because you know these
- 4:57Speaker 3: people that have not that we have any of this
- 5:00Speaker 3: on our private pieces or anything, but like the's people
- 5:04Speaker 3: that have these big old summer food plots and all
- 5:06Speaker 3: you know, they're leaving corn and all this, and that
- 5:08Speaker 3: you might you might only have a chance of that
- 5:10Speaker 3: deer on their property during rut.
- 5:12Speaker 2: I think that limited time would make me like the
- 5:16Speaker 2: rut more than limited acreage. I think that if you
- 5:20Speaker 2: if you're a kind of guy who hunts only on
- 5:22Speaker 2: the weekends or you know, uh, just only has like
- 5:27Speaker 2: maybe five days total in the woods, Yeah, the rut
- 5:31Speaker 2: is just awesome because you there's gonna be deer running
- 5:34Speaker 2: around and you can you can manipulate them. Was calling inside.
- 5:37Speaker 3: I think also for a guy that wants to kill
- 5:39Speaker 3: like a pope and young say, but if you're like, oh,
- 5:42Speaker 3: I'm holding out for that one sixty, that's you know,
- 5:45Speaker 3: or I'm the guy who's holding out for a target
- 5:47Speaker 3: deer right like you. I mean you may not even
- 5:49Speaker 3: have one sixties where you're at yet, maybe that your
- 5:51Speaker 3: target deer is a one forty one or whatever.
- 5:54Speaker 2: Limited and limited time both don't like if I could
- 6:00Speaker 2: advise someone don't put yourself in that box. If you're
- 6:03Speaker 2: if you have limited time, order go out and find
- 6:06Speaker 2: a dear that's doing something cool and shooting, you know,
- 6:08Speaker 2: like it's uh it's a good way to like sit
- 6:11Speaker 2: all year and kind of be miserable and maybe not
- 6:13Speaker 2: be one hundred and three.
- 6:13Speaker 3: Or four years. I'm telling you that I did the
- 6:17Speaker 3: target deer thing. I think it was day two of
- 6:20Speaker 3: that first hunt when you were like, I'm going to
- 6:23Speaker 3: leave that deer and go somewhere else, and I was like, well,
- 6:26Speaker 3: I'll go over in hunt him because you told me
- 6:28Speaker 3: how easy it was, you know, you just talk.
- 6:32Speaker 2: The first day.
- 6:34Speaker 3: After that it was ridiculously hard. Which that was the
- 6:37Speaker 3: only days with the dough. So that's that's the thing
- 6:39Speaker 3: that made a difference, you know. And so uh he
- 6:42Speaker 3: became uh more predictable outside of his rut behavior, but
- 6:48Speaker 3: also because of that deer uh and what he is
- 6:52Speaker 3: and who like, how how he behaves right, how wise
- 6:55Speaker 3: that deer is, and how arrey he is, it made
- 6:57Speaker 3: him extremely hard hunt.
- 6:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:59Speaker 3: Yeah, I think if you had a deer that was
- 7:01Speaker 3: just bed to food, not super wise to hunters or whatever,
- 7:05Speaker 3: October could be a pretty good time for you.
- 7:06Speaker 2: It could be it might be uh in the future
- 7:08Speaker 2: for us too.
- 7:09Speaker 3: You know.
- 7:09Speaker 2: It's uh, every deer season is different, and this one
- 7:12Speaker 2: has definitely felt a lot different than the ones in
- 7:14Speaker 2: the past, and it's how it's always going to feel.
- 7:15Speaker 2: And it's really one of the things that keeps us
- 7:17Speaker 2: liking to do it for sure, you know, because it's uh,
- 7:20Speaker 2: you just there's no like, oh, remember fourth is a
- 7:22Speaker 2: day when we kill the deer this year, and it's
- 7:23Speaker 2: how it's always going to be.
- 7:24Speaker 3: Yeah, it's always different, dude. I'll tell you. There's a
- 7:26Speaker 3: there's a thing that we deal with because you know,
- 7:29Speaker 3: we do have we have to make plans for where
- 7:32Speaker 3: we go in the year, and so like you either
- 7:34Speaker 3: have limited you do have limited time sometimes, but it's
- 7:37Speaker 3: only in that area or whatever. And so I think
- 7:39Speaker 3: what you sometimes what you run into or I feel
- 7:42Speaker 3: this a lot, is like, oh, dude, I'm not going
- 7:43Speaker 3: to kill on this trip because you know, the ruts
- 7:46Speaker 3: winding down this next trip and then from there I
- 7:48Speaker 3: got to go do this and that's not going to
- 7:50Speaker 3: be that great a hunt. It's just something kind of
- 7:52Speaker 3: stuck in there or whatever. And it's like you start
- 7:54Speaker 3: looking at things. You're like, obviously, being tired kind of
- 7:57Speaker 3: uh can affect your attitude as well, right, And also
- 8:00Speaker 3: and you're just like, I'm not going to kill another
- 8:01Speaker 3: deer this year, Right've killed one and that's all. That's
- 8:04Speaker 3: all we kill this year, you know, which I mean
- 8:06Speaker 3: most people would love to kill just one deer year,
- 8:08Speaker 3: you know, I mean one big buck, right, But I
- 8:13Speaker 3: just I feel that way sometimes And then I come
- 8:15Speaker 3: home from a trip like we just had, and I'm like, man,
- 8:19Speaker 3: I just need to not I just need to not
- 8:22Speaker 3: like worry about that stuff, probably quite as much as
- 8:27Speaker 3: I do, and just which I've done better, but I like,
- 8:29Speaker 3: just continue to hunt hard, that's the main thing, right, Like,
- 8:32Speaker 3: continue to go out there, get up at the right time,
- 8:36Speaker 3: go out there, don't sit in the truck too long
- 8:37Speaker 3: when you get to the parking spot.
- 8:39Speaker 2: These are all things that I did and still kill
- 8:40Speaker 2: the deer, sofa.
- 8:42Speaker 3: And you can, right, But like you're also really really
- 8:45Speaker 3: good on the ground, so I think that, yeah, but
- 8:49Speaker 3: you also have you have the the kind of note
- 8:52Speaker 3: don't give up kind of thing too, Like you may
- 8:54Speaker 3: not have the get started kind of thing, but you
- 8:56Speaker 3: don't you have to don't get up the kind of
- 8:58Speaker 3: thing you gotta.
- 8:59Speaker 2: You gotta be able to judge your situation. And you know,
- 9:02Speaker 2: if you're going to glass from a vehicle, there's no
- 9:05Speaker 2: reason to be there an hour before the sun gets up.
- 9:07Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, but if you do, then you get
- 9:10Speaker 3: you might bump the deer because you're moving your trucks.
- 9:13Speaker 2: What do you know about that?
- 9:14Speaker 3: I know something about it, so Tyler.
- 9:18Speaker 2: What Tyler is alluding to is that him and I
- 9:19Speaker 2: both had some really great blessings of success this past
- 9:24Speaker 2: week and those have been posted over on the Element
- 9:26Speaker 2: Instagram if you want to check that out, and.
- 9:29Speaker 3: We'll talk about it on our podcast too.
- 9:31Speaker 2: We're talking about it on our podcast. It's coming out
- 9:32Speaker 2: pretty soon as well. But enough about us, y'all are
- 9:36Speaker 2: here to hear from hunters around the country. Tyler, who
- 9:40Speaker 2: do we have this week?
- 9:42Speaker 3: Well, we've got one of our good buddies, Patrick pay Singer.
- 9:45Speaker 3: He works with that end game calls and somehow being
- 9:50Speaker 3: known for their turkey calls. Patrick is just a white
- 9:53Speaker 3: tailed deer killer. He is. He finds a way to
- 9:55Speaker 3: shoot Mondo's and he's going to be talking to us
- 9:58Speaker 3: about Tennessee. We've also got another dead end game called
- 10:03Speaker 3: guy who's Jeremy Kritcher out in North Carolina. He killed
- 10:08Speaker 3: him a buck out there the other day. And that's
- 10:10Speaker 3: that's North Carolina's kind of under the radar kind of place.
- 10:13Speaker 3: So I feel like there's some pretty good bucks and
- 10:14Speaker 3: there's real cool habitat.
- 10:16Speaker 2: It might be the prettiest state in the country. I
- 10:17Speaker 2: need to go there, Yeah, for sure, for sure you do. Yeah,
- 10:20Speaker 2: you should go there sometime and do that. Jake Belinda
- 10:26Speaker 2: who had some recent success in another state, but he
- 10:28Speaker 2: will be in Pennsylvania and has been there for the
- 10:32Speaker 2: next foreseeable future. So he's got a good report from
- 10:34Speaker 2: US for US for that state. And we've got our
- 10:38Speaker 2: own Chris Christopher Webb who has been hunting Texas and
- 10:43Speaker 2: killed just such a nice, just dark headed deer the
- 10:47Speaker 2: other day here in North Texas. Awesome, let's get the reports.
- 10:52Speaker 2: We are making the rounds with dead end game calls
- 10:55Speaker 2: today because we have got Patrick Paysinger in Tennessee. Man,
- 10:59Speaker 2: what's going on?
- 10:59Speaker 3: Patrick?
- 11:00Speaker 2: Not much?
- 11:01Speaker 5: Brother?
- 11:02Speaker 2: You seen them deer out there? Yes, I am.
- 11:06Speaker 6: I actually sat Sunday evening after church about gotten the
- 11:11Speaker 6: stand about three pm. It was a good high pressure,
- 11:15Speaker 6: clear started cooling off real good towards sunset, and seen
- 11:20Speaker 6: a lot of deer, a lot of deer on their feet.
- 11:22Speaker 2: You know, just as a little background for folks that
- 11:25Speaker 2: don't know you actually are probably known for turkey hunting,
- 11:30Speaker 2: but you're quite the deer slayer yourself. And even there
- 11:33Speaker 2: where you're at in Tennessee, you've killed some of the
- 11:35Speaker 2: biggest deer around. And I don't want to make you blush,
- 11:39Speaker 2: but it's a podcast, so nobody will know. But you know,
- 11:43Speaker 2: Tennessee a state that isn't known for giant bucks. But
- 11:47Speaker 2: at the same time, has big Bucks had the world
- 11:49Speaker 2: record for a little while. You know, what's what's kind
- 11:52Speaker 2: of the thing that gets big bucks killed in Tennessee
- 11:54Speaker 2: in your area?
- 11:56Speaker 6: Yes, over the years, Tennessee has done a really good
- 12:01Speaker 6: job at the management and uh, you know, growing up,
- 12:05Speaker 6: we were a four bucks state limit and now it's
- 12:08Speaker 6: down to two, so that has really helped. And in
- 12:13Speaker 6: East Tennessee where I'm at, one of the major things
- 12:17Speaker 6: that we've what I've seen is is going back into
- 12:19Speaker 6: the nineties, when I grew up, it was all cattle
- 12:22Speaker 6: pasture and tobacco fields. Yeah, and once the government did
- 12:27Speaker 6: the big tobacco buy out. A lot of these farms
- 12:30Speaker 6: has transitioned over to corn and beans agriculture because we're
- 12:37Speaker 6: at the foothills of the mountains and it's rolling. So
- 12:39Speaker 6: we've got a lot of open fields and bottoms and
- 12:43Speaker 6: those are converted to ag.
- 12:44Speaker 2: And you know how good that is for deer. Yeah,
- 12:46Speaker 2: for sure, for sure. So in that area of the country,
- 12:50Speaker 2: is there a lot of crops still in or is
- 12:52Speaker 2: a lot of stuff harvested?
- 12:54Speaker 6: Pretty much all of it's harvested. Something I do on
- 12:58Speaker 6: my farm. We used to I've got one hundred acres
- 13:02Speaker 6: there and it was growing up, it was always pasture
- 13:05Speaker 6: and cattle, and now I've converted. I've got a good
- 13:09Speaker 6: friend that does ag, so he does soy beans are corn,
- 13:14Speaker 6: and what he does on the back two acres, he
- 13:19Speaker 6: leaves it standing for me. So I've pretty much got
- 13:23Speaker 6: the only crops still standing. And I put a couple
- 13:27Speaker 6: of white tail Institute food plots that butt up right
- 13:31Speaker 6: against it, and you'll see the deer will transition, come out,
- 13:36Speaker 6: hit the clover, hit the greens, and then go into
- 13:38Speaker 6: the grains.
- 13:39Speaker 3: Man, it sounds like you got a good setup. From
- 13:41Speaker 3: here on out to the end of the year.
- 13:44Speaker 6: Yes, my place will get better and better because I
- 13:49Speaker 6: leave the pressure off I've got on the Basically, I've
- 13:54Speaker 6: got an acre of acre and a half of standing beans,
- 13:58Speaker 6: two green food play and then on the other side
- 14:01Speaker 6: of the green food plots, I've got an acre of CRP.
- 14:04Speaker 6: So they've got everything in this back corner and then
- 14:07Speaker 6: hardwoods on the other side of it. And I just
- 14:10Speaker 6: don't hunt it much. I can sit back and watch
- 14:13Speaker 6: it a little bit from my house and then monitor
- 14:18Speaker 6: the trail cameras and then whenever I see a deer
- 14:21Speaker 6: move in and everything's right, then I go in.
- 14:24Speaker 3: So you know, when you say see a deer, I'm
- 14:27Speaker 3: assuming you're talking about mostly on trail camera. Now what
- 14:30Speaker 3: are your trail camera? What do they look like right now?
- 14:33Speaker 3: Are they deer moving around? Are you seeing big bucks
- 14:35Speaker 3: show up? Are they not near the food or they
- 14:38Speaker 3: near the food? What's the deal?
- 14:40Speaker 6: So right now, it's smack dab in the middle of
- 14:45Speaker 6: just major breeding.
- 14:47Speaker 2: I'd say right in the middle of it.
- 14:48Speaker 6: Usually the week leading into Thanksgiving is prime time breeding.
- 14:54Speaker 6: And what I'm seeing is is the dose are concentrating
- 14:57Speaker 6: hitting the beans. They are pouring out in the bean
- 15:00Speaker 6: every evening and I'm seeing those those real small bucks
- 15:05Speaker 6: irritate them, and then I'm getting pictures or seeing those
- 15:08Speaker 6: big boys cruise in.
- 15:11Speaker 2: So it's it's definitely peak of the rut.
- 15:15Speaker 3: Would you say it's, uh, there's a lockdown situation going
- 15:19Speaker 3: on right now?
- 15:21Speaker 2: There is.
- 15:21Speaker 6: They're there, but they're bouncing off, coming on and off
- 15:25Speaker 6: quite a bit. But yeah, it can be that lockdown definitely,
- 15:29Speaker 6: because it seems like the big buck that I killed
- 15:33Speaker 6: two years ago on my home place, I think it
- 15:37Speaker 6: was the eighteenth. I had trail camera pictures the day
- 15:40Speaker 6: before I killed him.
- 15:41Speaker 2: Actually breeding they do.
- 15:42Speaker 3: Oh wow.
- 15:43Speaker 2: So Tennessee is you know, technically the South and if
- 15:48Speaker 2: people are listening, they can tell from your accent for sure,
- 15:50Speaker 2: just like us, right, but surely not deer. You know,
- 15:54Speaker 2: deer in the South are kind of used to warmer tempts,
- 15:56Speaker 2: but you know, kind of across the country it's been
- 15:58Speaker 2: unseasonably warm for the November. Do you feel like that's
- 16:01Speaker 2: suppressed deer movement or are they still pretty daylight active?
- 16:05Speaker 6: Well, what has suppressed the deer movement where I'm from
- 16:10Speaker 6: is acorns. Yeah, we've had a bumper crop of acorns,
- 16:14Speaker 6: and until I'd say the past week, it didn't matter
- 16:19Speaker 6: what food I had out, I just wasn't getting many
- 16:22Speaker 6: deer come out into the food plots or the beans,
- 16:27Speaker 6: even when the beans were green and they usually demolished.
- 16:30Speaker 6: The end of September, we were having the white oaks fall,
- 16:33Speaker 6: and the deer were just staying in the woods.
- 16:36Speaker 2: So I'm so close to betting that.
- 16:40Speaker 6: I usually don't see the temperature play a big part
- 16:43Speaker 6: of that.
- 16:45Speaker 2: I think it was mostly the acorns got you.
- 16:48Speaker 3: So in the next week, do you expect the lockdown
- 16:52Speaker 3: situation to be different? You're going to see more buck
- 16:55Speaker 3: movement or less buck movement. How do you feel about it?
- 16:58Speaker 2: I think we're going to see more.
- 17:01Speaker 6: You know, we're going to get into I traditionally I
- 17:04Speaker 6: love that that week of Thanksgiving, in the first week
- 17:07Speaker 6: of December, we're right there. As you guys said, that
- 17:11Speaker 6: southern transition, if you look at lines Tennessee is like,
- 17:15Speaker 6: it's not deep.
- 17:16Speaker 2: South, it's not north.
- 17:19Speaker 6: I usually see that that peak of the rut, you know,
- 17:23Speaker 6: a week or two later, mostly in our area, and
- 17:27Speaker 6: from those dose getting bred the first couple of weeks,
- 17:32Speaker 6: you're going to see that you know.
- 17:33Speaker 2: What is that the drury is called desperately seeking.
- 17:37Speaker 6: They're not going to be in the complete just food mode,
- 17:42Speaker 6: but you're going to have those big boys still want
- 17:45Speaker 6: to find that last available though.
- 17:47Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that makes sense. So with that being said,
- 17:50Speaker 2: do you what would you rink buck moving on a
- 17:52Speaker 2: scale of one to ten for the next week in Tennessee,
- 17:56Speaker 2: I would say a seven. That's pretty good, man, It's
- 17:59Speaker 2: a pretty good time in the woods, that's right.
- 18:02Speaker 6: The only reason I wouldn't give it higher just because
- 18:05Speaker 6: we have been in gun season since Saturday.
- 18:08Speaker 3: Gotcha?
- 18:10Speaker 2: If gun season, what wouldn't have been going on?
- 18:12Speaker 6: So that may suppress some dear movement just from you know, pressure,
- 18:18Speaker 6: But I think if you're somewhere where that pressure hadn't
- 18:21Speaker 6: been affected, you're going to see really good dear man.
- 18:23Speaker 2: Gotcha. All right, it's a little bit of a bonus
- 18:25Speaker 2: question here. Are there better weeks coming or is this
- 18:28Speaker 2: the time to be out right now?
- 18:32Speaker 6: I think if you have a place with low pressure,
- 18:36Speaker 6: you've still got to just killer weeks left.
- 18:40Speaker 3: Awesome?
- 18:40Speaker 2: Cool, all right, Patrick, appreciate the report, man, Yes, sir.
- 18:45Speaker 3: Talking to one of my old friends, Jeremy Chritcher, here
- 18:47Speaker 3: from dead End Game calls Jeremy, how's everything going, dude?
- 18:51Speaker 7: And too blessed to be the press?
- 18:53Speaker 2: Brother?
- 18:53Speaker 3: Hey, I like it, man, I like it.
- 18:56Speaker 4: Man.
- 18:56Speaker 3: Well, you guys have been blessed, y'all. Yup shot several
- 19:01Speaker 3: deer and been out hunting quite a bit, and y'all
- 19:03Speaker 3: are about the deadliest turkey people I know. I mean,
- 19:06Speaker 3: I'm telling you, if ain't a turkey just out there
- 19:10Speaker 3: just shaking in its boots while I'm saying dead end
- 19:12Speaker 3: game calls, man, then I don't know what that turkey's doing,
- 19:15Speaker 3: because y'all are deadly on the turkeys. But we're talking
- 19:18Speaker 3: deer right now. You've been out there in North Carolina
- 19:21Speaker 3: and had some success recently. Talk about that a little bit.
- 19:25Speaker 3: What was going on when you were able to kill
- 19:29Speaker 3: that buck?
- 19:30Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 19:30Speaker 4: Sure?
- 19:31Speaker 7: So last week we finally where we're out North Carolina.
- 19:36Speaker 7: We're kind of at the bottom of the mountain as
- 19:38Speaker 7: far as Northwest goes, though, but it's been hot like
- 19:42Speaker 7: seventies and it's just not ideal for mid November. Finally
- 19:47Speaker 7: had a good col frut push in, but it rained
- 19:49Speaker 7: the whole day. But I was watching the wind for
- 19:53Speaker 7: this particular buck and the col frut push, and I
- 19:58Speaker 7: was like, man, as soon as it's rain stops, he's
- 20:00Speaker 7: gonna want to get up. And sure enough, about an
- 20:03Speaker 7: hour before it quit, he was on his feet by himself.
- 20:08Speaker 7: And but then I got in the stand hoping to
- 20:12Speaker 7: hunt that evening, and it just.
- 20:15Speaker 3: Right there last.
- 20:16Speaker 7: Light, it come a quick rain. So I kind of
- 20:18Speaker 7: got caught in the rain again, and that messed me
- 20:23Speaker 7: up because I thought I had everything.
- 20:25Speaker 2: I didn't think I got as wet as I actually got.
- 20:28Speaker 7: And a couple of days later, still good, cold, frosty
- 20:32Speaker 7: morning got in there and he come right in, just
- 20:36Speaker 7: as pretty as he pleases, and just blew the cap
- 20:40Speaker 7: on him.
- 20:41Speaker 2: The powder didn't nignight. Oh. I was like, man, this
- 20:45Speaker 2: is not happening.
- 20:46Speaker 7: But he's still there, And I was like, how did
- 20:49Speaker 7: he not spook? And put another cap in? And I'm
- 20:52Speaker 7: just like, Lord, please help this shot to go off
- 20:55Speaker 7: and just.
- 20:55Speaker 2: The cap again?
- 20:57Speaker 3: Oh man, And I'm like he's still there. So where
- 21:02Speaker 3: did he? Was he coming into food or what?
- 21:04Speaker 7: Yes, at this point on camera, a couple of nights
- 21:09Speaker 7: he had been with some doze, but this morning in particular,
- 21:14Speaker 7: he was coming into cornpile.
- 21:16Speaker 3: Got you, and oh he well, he was hungry that morning.
- 21:22Speaker 2: I guess why he wouldn't leave.
- 21:25Speaker 3: If I was a deer, I'd be killed at food
- 21:26Speaker 3: for sure.
- 21:29Speaker 2: That's my problem.
- 21:32Speaker 3: We had.
- 21:33Speaker 7: So so he's still there and I managed to pull
- 21:36Speaker 7: the gun off the tripod, unscrew my breech plug dunk
- 21:41Speaker 7: the powder loading now round unberknownst to me. I didn't
- 21:45Speaker 7: look at it enough. My breech was just caked and
- 21:48Speaker 7: wet powder. So when I got this shot off, I
- 21:51Speaker 7: guess it just locked. Man, it finally ignited, but it
- 21:54Speaker 7: just and he ducked it.
- 21:56Speaker 2: And uh ran off And I was like, man, that's it.
- 22:00Speaker 7: And the next that night he actually came right back
- 22:03Speaker 7: with a young buck. And then the next morning he
- 22:05Speaker 7: was with the dough and she was hot, and he
- 22:08Speaker 7: he was more concerned about her, and I was like, well,
- 22:11Speaker 7: this evening might be it.
- 22:12Speaker 3: So hey, real quick on that that morning, when he's
- 22:15Speaker 3: with that dough, is he is he coming by the corn? Still?
- 22:19Speaker 3: Like is that dough leading him to corn?
- 22:22Speaker 2: Yes? So what he'll.
- 22:24Speaker 7: Typically what will happen that I've seen on a hot
- 22:27Speaker 7: dough is he might stand in the pile, but he's
- 22:30Speaker 7: more concerned about what she's doing. God, he may not
- 22:34Speaker 7: even dip his nose down.
- 22:35Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, So so maybe like being at a food
- 22:39Speaker 3: source because of the dose is a pretty good reason
- 22:41Speaker 3: to be at a food source too, not just because
- 22:43Speaker 3: it draws bucks in.
- 22:45Speaker 7: Yeah, And I think, uh, we have a lot of
- 22:49Speaker 7: doze around here, and just and that's what led to
- 22:54Speaker 7: his destruction there that evening was because uh he left her.
- 23:00Speaker 2: I had some does.
- 23:01Speaker 7: Come in, young bucks come in, grunting the most vocal
- 23:04Speaker 7: I've ever heard them on this farm. But the doze
- 23:08Speaker 7: just did not want to have it, and so the
- 23:11Speaker 7: young bucks would absolutely run them all off. And about
- 23:15Speaker 7: five minutes left of legal no camera light.
- 23:18Speaker 4: But I was like, God, just would you give me
- 23:21Speaker 4: one more chance?
- 23:22Speaker 7: And I've paid that prayer one hundred times, but so
- 23:28Speaker 7: sure enough, like fifty yards from me, a deer comes
- 23:31Speaker 7: out of the creek, which I have never seen a
- 23:33Speaker 7: deer come out this way before, and I'm looking at
- 23:37Speaker 7: its butt and again it's dark, I'm in the woods,
- 23:40Speaker 7: and I see Antler's moving. I was like, I think
- 23:44Speaker 7: that's him. If not, it's that big seven, but I
- 23:47Speaker 7: think it's him. And I was like, well, he's probably
- 23:50Speaker 7: going to go to the bait pile and he'll turn
- 23:52Speaker 7: for me.
- 23:52Speaker 3: Here in a minute.
- 23:54Speaker 7: And sure enough, all he did was he he scanned
- 23:56Speaker 7: that field and he turned and he went back into
- 23:59Speaker 7: the creek to leave. And as soon as he turned
- 24:01Speaker 7: back into the creek, I was like, it's now or never,
- 24:04Speaker 7: and I shot right then and he wasn't standing at
- 24:07Speaker 7: eighty yards and and then he probably didn't go fifty
- 24:13Speaker 7: seventy five yards.
- 24:14Speaker 2: Man smoked him. That's cool, dude, congrats on the big bulls.
- 24:19Speaker 7: It was fun because I had my little boy and
- 24:21Speaker 7: my wife and Mitchell and his son. So I called
- 24:26Speaker 7: I called that everybody and was like, hey, I think
- 24:29Speaker 7: he's down. And I was like, but there's also a chance,
- 24:32Speaker 7: like it's not him. I was like, I think it's
- 24:35Speaker 7: him though, But so anyway, having man just having a
- 24:41Speaker 7: little tracking party with family like that was just that
- 24:43Speaker 7: was what it.
- 24:44Speaker 2: Was all about. That's a good time. Do you feel
- 24:46Speaker 2: like there's still gonna be doze in heat right now? Like,
- 24:49Speaker 2: are we still in the dead of the rut there?
- 24:53Speaker 7: I think some of it's locked down because of just
- 24:57Speaker 7: what I've been seeing man. Two weeks ago, two three
- 25:01Speaker 7: weeks ago, scrapes were unbelievable. But camera activity wise, I've
- 25:06Speaker 7: got a couple different cameras on the farm, and I'll
- 25:10Speaker 7: have a dough walking and you know, within between five
- 25:13Speaker 7: minutes and an hour a buckle on that same trail.
- 25:17Speaker 7: So I think they're still cruising.
- 25:18Speaker 3: Though, Yeah, got you?
- 25:20Speaker 2: Yeah? Are they going to be pretty daylight active still
- 25:24Speaker 2: or is it just too hot?
- 25:28Speaker 7: So they have been more nighttime. But the good news
- 25:31Speaker 7: is within this next week it's supposed to get down
- 25:35Speaker 7: into the twenties finally, man, and so we should see.
- 25:40Speaker 7: I think they'll definitely be up on their feet more.
- 25:42Speaker 7: But I have you know, they really like those cold,
- 25:45Speaker 7: frosty mornings as far as what I've been saying.
- 25:47Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure cool.
- 25:49Speaker 7: So they're just giving far between here man, thirty minutes
- 25:55Speaker 7: from here up the mountain, you know, the elevation goes
- 25:57Speaker 7: up fifteen hundred feet. I mean they it snowed and
- 26:01Speaker 7: my brother was hunting the snow Saturday.
- 26:03Speaker 4: Wow.
- 26:03Speaker 2: Yeah, how about that?
- 26:04Speaker 3: Hey, would you ever use a like a drag, like
- 26:07Speaker 3: a you know, a scent scent drag or whatever?
- 26:12Speaker 7: I have before? Actually I used one one time in
- 26:17Speaker 7: New York. I was hunting on one of our farmers
- 26:20Speaker 7: up there, and it I don't know if it makes
- 26:24Speaker 7: a difference or not.
- 26:25Speaker 4: I didn't really know what I was doing back then.
- 26:27Speaker 3: Yeah, I was just thinking because as you know, you said,
- 26:29Speaker 3: the Bucks will come through a half hour after a
- 26:32Speaker 3: dough comes through. I just wondered if that was That's
- 26:34Speaker 3: something I don't like doing. But I have done it
- 26:36Speaker 3: before too, and I don't know if I knew enough
- 26:38Speaker 3: either at the time. You know, Yeah, I don't think.
- 26:44Speaker 4: I don't know. I guess it just depends on the.
- 26:45Speaker 2: Quality of the leriu you're using.
- 26:47Speaker 7: But yeah, you know, when them bucks when they're when
- 26:50Speaker 7: their cruising, they just especially them older bucks, they worked
- 26:54Speaker 7: their nose so much there is no telling what can
- 26:56Speaker 7: happen for sure.
- 26:57Speaker 3: Well that's awesome, man, Hey, on a scale and one
- 26:59Speaker 3: to what do you think Buck movement is going to
- 27:01Speaker 3: be like next week?
- 27:04Speaker 7: Next week, I think everything's gonna be on their feet.
- 27:07Speaker 7: I'd say the problem is it's a little bit late.
- 27:11Speaker 7: They might be a little more on lockdown. But I
- 27:14Speaker 7: think movement's gonna.
- 27:15Speaker 3: Be up there. Eight. Oh okay, Yeah, that's awesome man. Well, Jeremy,
- 27:21Speaker 3: I appreciate that.
- 27:22Speaker 7: Pel.
- 27:22Speaker 3: Yeah, I appreciate the report, Jeremy, and Uh. North Carolina
- 27:26Speaker 3: is a state that there's a lot of hunters, but
- 27:29Speaker 3: you don't hear a lot of press coming out of there.
- 27:30Speaker 3: So we appreciate you giving us a good detailed report
- 27:33Speaker 3: on things. Man.
- 27:34Speaker 2: Man, I appreciate it.
- 27:35Speaker 3: Yep, y'all have a blessed season. Man, Yes, tell you too.
- 28:10Speaker 3: On the phone, I've got Jake Belinda with the void. Jake,
- 28:13Speaker 3: you've been hunting up in Pennsylvania. You've been hunting all
- 28:15Speaker 3: over actually Pennsylvania recently. How's how's everything going in your
- 28:20Speaker 3: neck of the woods.
- 28:22Speaker 8: Man, It's been going pretty good.
- 28:25Speaker 5: It uh just wrapped up our our bow season, early
- 28:29Speaker 5: bot season.
- 28:31Speaker 3: So what what you've been seeing during your early bost
- 28:34Speaker 3: season is in the last week or so, what's the
- 28:36Speaker 3: what's the deer movement like, and what's what are the
- 28:38Speaker 3: things that are affecting what those deer are doing.
- 28:42Speaker 5: So it's the tail end of the rut here in
- 28:44Speaker 5: the mountains. I've been seeing a lot of really good
- 28:47Speaker 5: early morning movement, some mid a little bit of mid
- 28:50Speaker 5: day on the certain weather days, and then you know,
- 28:54Speaker 5: evening time the big deer are showing their face where
- 29:01Speaker 5: some of the younger class bucks. You know, your two
- 29:03Speaker 5: and a half year olds are kind of showing more
- 29:05Speaker 5: of a going back to food source pattern.
- 29:10Speaker 3: Okay, so when you say showing their face, they're they're
- 29:13Speaker 3: still doing the thing, the rut thing a little bit.
- 29:16Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, some of the bit.
- 29:18Speaker 5: In my opinion, this end of the year, this time
- 29:22Speaker 5: of year is a really good time to catch some
- 29:24Speaker 5: of those big, giant mature bucks on their feet looking
- 29:27Speaker 5: for the last estra's dozetcha. Right before you know that,
- 29:32Speaker 5: they pretty much go back into hiding.
- 29:34Speaker 3: So so do you expect to see deer that you
- 29:36Speaker 3: haven't ever seen before? Potentially if you're hunting this time
- 29:40Speaker 3: of year.
- 29:41Speaker 5: Oh yeah, I actually seen a really big dear that
- 29:45Speaker 5: I haven't seen. I had pictures of him in August
- 29:48Speaker 5: and then he disappeared and then just showed back up.
- 29:51Speaker 5: I don't know if I'm you know, he's outside of
- 29:53Speaker 5: his core rut range and just kind of hitting those
- 29:57Speaker 5: last few known pockets.
- 29:59Speaker 8: But it's a really good time to catch some big
- 30:01Speaker 8: deer on their feet.
- 30:03Speaker 2: So if they're you got bucks that are out looking
- 30:05Speaker 2: for new doughs, what kind of areas are those? Do
- 30:09Speaker 2: you find those betting in there in Pennsylvania, Like, what's
- 30:12Speaker 2: what's that stuff?
- 30:13Speaker 5: Looks like it's a lot of mountain hill country, so
- 30:18Speaker 5: leeward side, so like it would be like eastern points,
- 30:21Speaker 5: ridge points. Dough groups are starting to get pushed back together.
- 30:26Speaker 5: I'm starting to see a lot more doze instead of
- 30:28Speaker 5: being in singles and doubles, get going back into those
- 30:31Speaker 5: groups of four, five and six family groups.
- 30:35Speaker 3: Gotcha? Gotcha?
- 30:36Speaker 2: So when a buck is going to check those leeward sides,
- 30:41Speaker 2: are you is he gonna be? I guess that you're
- 30:44Speaker 2: saying leeward on the wind right? So is it gonna
- 30:46Speaker 2: be downhill of the end of of those betting areas
- 30:50Speaker 2: is kind of where you want to set up?
- 30:52Speaker 8: Yeah?
- 30:52Speaker 5: So, uh I I hunt a lot of you know,
- 30:56Speaker 5: big mountaintops, so that bottom third, you know, not quite
- 31:00Speaker 5: the very bottom, but the bottom third. They're they're using
- 31:04Speaker 5: drainages to basically cut corners as quick as they can
- 31:08Speaker 5: to check to see if they can find any hot,
- 31:11Speaker 5: hot doughs on those dough betting areas.
- 31:14Speaker 2: Gotcha. So you like kind of the mid mornings then
- 31:17Speaker 2: for that kind of stuff.
- 31:19Speaker 5: Yeah, ten o'clock, ten to ten to one on those overcasts.
- 31:23Speaker 5: You know, forty degree days seem to be the magic
- 31:26Speaker 5: for this late late rut period.
- 31:29Speaker 3: Gotcha. So in the next week or so, do you
- 31:32Speaker 3: expect things to change much much in Pennsylvania as far
- 31:35Speaker 3: as do your movement goes, especially buck movement.
- 31:38Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 31:39Speaker 5: Uh, it's definitely gonna change, and it's due with a
- 31:42Speaker 5: multiple of factors. I mean, we have a very large
- 31:45Speaker 5: hunting pressure numbers starting bear season just came in, and
- 31:50Speaker 5: then rifle seasons coming up next week. And the older
- 31:55Speaker 5: age class of bucks if they're not on a dough
- 31:59Speaker 5: basically the young fond does this.
- 32:02Speaker 8: Uh, I see him going.
- 32:04Speaker 5: Back to their their places of hide that they've you know,
- 32:07Speaker 5: survived four five and six years to get away from
- 32:10Speaker 5: the gun hunting pressure.
- 32:12Speaker 3: Gotcha? Gotcha? Okay, so those places, what do those places
- 32:17Speaker 3: look like? The hiding places?
- 32:19Speaker 5: Man, it's very in so everywhere, but uh, steep hillsides,
- 32:24Speaker 5: thick terrain, mountain orl thickets where they have isolated food
- 32:29Speaker 5: sources for you know, mature dear. Once they're done with
- 32:32Speaker 5: the rut here this next week, they like to be
- 32:35Speaker 5: isolated and kind of by themselves. You still may catch
- 32:39Speaker 5: one or two on some dough dough groups. You know,
- 32:44Speaker 5: you have that second cycle coming in about the third
- 32:48Speaker 5: of December here, and you might catch a buck on
- 32:51Speaker 5: his feet, you know, following some does, but a lot
- 32:53Speaker 5: of the majority is going to be isolated by themselves.
- 32:57Speaker 3: Cool. All right.
- 32:57Speaker 2: So on a scale of one to ten over the week,
- 33:00Speaker 2: what are you gonna rank buck movement in Pennsylvania?
- 33:05Speaker 8: I think it's gonna be a pretty good I would
- 33:08Speaker 8: say seven, because we're getting some We're getting some weather.
- 33:14Speaker 5: We're supposed to have really cool temperatures, some snow for
- 33:17Speaker 5: gun season, So that's gonna get deer on their feet
- 33:20Speaker 5: and they'll be seen.
- 33:21Speaker 3: Awesome, dude. Well, thanks so much for the report, Jake,
- 33:24Speaker 3: and I hope you have a good rest of your year.
- 33:26Speaker 8: I appreciate it.
- 33:26Speaker 2: Man. Thanks The Element's own Christopher Webb. Chris Webb is
- 33:32Speaker 2: on the phone. He has been having some success in Texas. Chris,
- 33:36Speaker 2: what's happening?
- 33:36Speaker 8: Dog?
- 33:38Speaker 7: Oh?
- 33:38Speaker 4: You know, just got one less tag in my pocket.
- 33:40Speaker 2: That's nice, man. You still got how many you gotta lift? In?
- 33:44Speaker 8: Oh? In Texas?
- 33:50Speaker 2: Well? You know, when they're their bodies are so small,
- 33:52Speaker 2: you have to kill quite a few to make up
- 33:55Speaker 2: the meat. Yeah. Yeah, that's right, but you killed a
- 33:57Speaker 2: really nice buck. Congratulations man, thank you. It's a funny.
- 34:00Speaker 2: Tyler tried to claim, you know, something in on it
- 34:03Speaker 2: because he had talked to you, But then I had
- 34:04Speaker 2: talked to you even more recently than he had, and
- 34:07Speaker 2: so we all, you know, if you don't mind, Tyler,
- 34:11Speaker 2: and I would like to just also be included tiny
- 34:13Speaker 2: bit on the success.
- 34:14Speaker 3: You can be the one that tags it though.
- 34:16Speaker 2: Yeah, So tell me about what that deer was doing.
- 34:22Speaker 4: He was, I mean, it was ten minutes after first light.
- 34:29Speaker 4: He was just searching, searching for DOZ and so I
- 34:35Speaker 4: had the camera I have there showed he was there
- 34:37Speaker 4: about an hour earlier, and he was just you know,
- 34:41Speaker 4: we're kind of entering that late stage here in North
- 34:43Speaker 4: Texas where they're trying to find those last few dos,
- 34:47Speaker 4: and so he was that's.
- 34:49Speaker 7: What he was doing.
- 34:50Speaker 3: Gotcha, what uh, what's the food source in that area?
- 34:57Speaker 4: That field has a couple oaks, and then I I
- 35:00Speaker 4: run corn there and then I also planted a bunch
- 35:02Speaker 4: of oats and stuff.
- 35:04Speaker 3: So do you think are those oats look good? I mean,
- 35:07Speaker 3: like you think that's a big draw for deer right now?
- 35:12Speaker 4: As they look good? Yes, and as much as I
- 35:14Speaker 4: would like to say yes, it really hasn't been the
- 35:17Speaker 4: case right now. I think there's still so much food
- 35:21Speaker 4: in the woods and they like the corn. But we
- 35:24Speaker 4: haven't had a hard freeze yet.
- 35:25Speaker 3: So, yeah, what's the weather been like? I mean, we've
- 35:28Speaker 3: been out of state, but I would assume because I
- 35:31Speaker 3: came back and it was like eighty Is that kind
- 35:33Speaker 3: of what it's been or is it hot yesterday compared
- 35:35Speaker 3: to what it has been the last few days.
- 35:38Speaker 4: It's been mid days in the sixties and then love's
- 35:42Speaker 4: and like the mid to high forties.
- 35:44Speaker 3: That's not too bad.
- 35:45Speaker 2: Yeah, it's not bad deering weather, but still that cold
- 35:47Speaker 2: freeze would make a huge difference on hitting that green
- 35:50Speaker 2: food source. Right But you said you had this deer
- 35:53Speaker 2: on camera. Are you relying on camera day to quite
- 35:55Speaker 2: a bit to make moves right now?
- 35:58Speaker 8: Right now?
- 35:59Speaker 4: No, someme of the year is just getting the woods?
- 36:02Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, gotcha. So do you feel like most
- 36:08Speaker 2: of the dos have kind of gone through cycle? Where
- 36:11Speaker 2: you're at or where are we at in the rut
- 36:13Speaker 2: in Texas right now?
- 36:15Speaker 4: I do think most have I hunt a pretty small
- 36:19Speaker 4: property that doesn't have a lot of dose. So I
- 36:21Speaker 4: think I know for sure that one of them has
- 36:26Speaker 4: from some chasing and stuff that I've seen and heard about.
- 36:30Speaker 4: So some of the younger ones could come in later.
- 36:35Speaker 2: But yeah, I feel like the most it's still a
- 36:39Speaker 2: good time of year to do some calling right now.
- 36:43Speaker 4: Where I'm at, I've I've had no success calling, and
- 36:49Speaker 4: I have been continuing to experiment, like with deer insight,
- 36:54Speaker 4: seeing how they react to different stuff.
- 36:56Speaker 3: Are use deer calls or something different.
- 37:01Speaker 4: I rattled out a buck and then he just ran
- 37:03Speaker 4: off as fast as.
- 37:04Speaker 2: Yeah, it's weirds when a dobin and buck gets after you, Man,
- 37:07Speaker 2: that's it.
- 37:07Speaker 4: Man.
- 37:08Speaker 3: Oh, Chris, Hey, I'm real glad Kse didn't use your
- 37:12Speaker 3: nickname in this podcast.
- 37:14Speaker 2: Yeah, to get rid of it, man, is he Yeah
- 37:16Speaker 2: he did?
- 37:17Speaker 3: Yeah, it looked like he made a good shot.
- 37:20Speaker 2: I did.
- 37:20Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 37:21Speaker 3: Was was there a grunt stop involved?
- 37:24Speaker 2: No?
- 37:25Speaker 3: So the deer was eating something, I would assume.
- 37:29Speaker 4: Uh, he saw a little bit of movement up in
- 37:32Speaker 4: the tree when I drew my bow, and it still
- 37:35Speaker 4: was kind of dark, and he just really couldn't figure
- 37:38Speaker 4: out what I was. And he stopped at about seventeen yards,
- 37:42Speaker 4: quartering to a little bit and I just put it
- 37:46Speaker 4: a little back of the front shoulder and watched him fall.
- 37:49Speaker 3: Oh. I thought you were going to say, throat patch,
- 37:53Speaker 3: that's the way to go.
- 37:54Speaker 2: Man.
- 37:55Speaker 3: Hey, So this deer was in true cruise mode when
- 37:58Speaker 3: you first saw him. Yes, And do you expect that
- 38:01Speaker 3: to be the case in the next week, that deer
- 38:03Speaker 3: still in cruise mode and looking for dose more than
- 38:07Speaker 3: they're worried about food.
- 38:09Speaker 4: Yeah, for Texas for sure. From just historical data and
- 38:12Speaker 4: what I saw this weekend, I expect that to continue.
- 38:14Speaker 2: Gotcha?
- 38:15Speaker 3: Gotcha?
- 38:15Speaker 2: Can you feel like those pinch points and all are
- 38:18Speaker 2: going to be kind of the thing to focus on?
- 38:20Speaker 3: Are you thinking about.
- 38:23Speaker 2: More like dough betting or field edges or like what's
- 38:25Speaker 2: the what's the go to right now?
- 38:29Speaker 4: Field edges and dough betting and food are probably the
- 38:32Speaker 4: things I would focus on.
- 38:33Speaker 3: Gotcha?
- 38:33Speaker 2: Cool? All right, let's give it a ranking, man, on
- 38:36Speaker 2: a scale of one to ten. What do you think
- 38:38Speaker 2: buck movement's going to be like over the next week
- 38:40Speaker 2: in Texas?
- 38:42Speaker 4: I think the next week's going to be a nine.
- 38:44Speaker 4: It's one of my favorite weeks in Texas.
- 38:46Speaker 2: Man, I don't think I would disagree. I think it's
- 38:49Speaker 2: a really good week in Texas and thankfully you still
- 38:53Speaker 2: got tags in your pocket, man, so get out there
- 38:54Speaker 2: and get it after.
- 38:55Speaker 4: I appreciate the repas. Yeah, absolutely anytime.
- 39:00Speaker 2: I was like, the deer is still doing the thing
- 39:01Speaker 2: around the country and it's always a good time to
- 39:03Speaker 2: be in the woods as long as you've got an
- 39:05Speaker 2: open season. If you want to hear more about Tyler
- 39:09Speaker 2: and I's success in the Midwest hunting some big old
- 39:13Speaker 2: deer out on the planes, which those two places kind
- 39:16Speaker 2: of sounded different, but they touch. They kind of sound different,
- 39:18Speaker 2: but they touched, so it's kind of the same place.
- 39:21Speaker 2: It's on the Element podcast this week. Go check that out.
- 39:25Speaker 3: And then also also our very own Mark Kenyon, who
- 39:30Speaker 3: has graciously allowed us to bring these reports to you.
- 39:35Speaker 3: Mark put out a video on the Media channel a
- 39:37Speaker 3: few days back. It's called Hunting and Fishing road Trip
- 39:40Speaker 3: with Mark Kenyon. And this is back in the days
- 39:43Speaker 3: when he had facial hair. I don't know, does he
- 39:45Speaker 3: have that still. I know he shaped it for a
- 39:47Speaker 3: while there. I don't know, Yeah, well I think he had.
- 39:50Speaker 2: He pulled some you know, some ideas from Buck Truck
- 39:52Speaker 2: for this, you know what I mean with facial hair,
- 39:54Speaker 2: being in a truck and all that kind of.
- 39:55Speaker 3: He tried to put a buck boat in that thumbnail
- 39:57Speaker 3: out there. Anyway, Mark's been out doing some cool stuff
- 40:02Speaker 3: and like he usually does, he does some He's one
- 40:05Speaker 3: thing Mark does really good is he like takes a
- 40:07Speaker 3: dream and makes it come to fruition. You know, like
- 40:10Speaker 3: like it's not just like sometimes we're just like a
- 40:13Speaker 3: it's just two dudes going and go him dear hunting.
- 40:15Speaker 1: You know.
- 40:16Speaker 3: Sometimes Mark's like, Hey, what's the coolest thing I could
- 40:19Speaker 3: possibly do? And I'm gonna go pull this on.
- 40:20Speaker 2: That's right, I mean Mark. One of Mark's streams is
- 40:22Speaker 2: to go do you hunt with us? And he pulled
- 40:23Speaker 2: it off one time.
- 40:23Speaker 3: Dude, isn't that crazy? Note I think he's been downhill
- 40:26Speaker 3: since then.
- 40:29Speaker 2: Go watch that video if you want. You guys, we're
- 40:31Speaker 2: gonna link all that stuff in the description below. Remember,
- 40:35Speaker 2: I know that we all want to get out and
- 40:38Speaker 2: hunt deer right now, and honestly, as a hunter, we
- 40:42Speaker 2: get one track minded a lot of times. But it
- 40:44Speaker 2: is a good time of year to stake a step
- 40:46Speaker 2: back and spend some time with your family, telling me
- 40:49Speaker 2: you love him, telling me thankful for him, and uh,
- 40:51Speaker 2: get head out the door and go hunting.
- 40:53Speaker 3: Eagle hunting afterwards.
- 40:54Speaker 2: Make sure you do Thanksgiving the lunches so you can
- 40:56Speaker 2: hunt the afternoon. But no, really, I mean you're gonna
- 40:59Speaker 2: have a here, a lot of marketing this week about
- 41:02Speaker 2: going to stores and buying stuff and this and that
- 41:04Speaker 2: and the other. And you know, it is fun to
- 41:06Speaker 2: give gifts, so I'm not saying that, but remember like
- 41:09Speaker 2: what this week is actually about. It's about giving thanks
- 41:11Speaker 2: for all that we have been given. And remember that
- 41:15Speaker 2: this has been rough, fresh keep it fresh.
