- 0:00Speaker 1: Out of the Gates on Sport and State. Good morning
- 0:03Speaker 1: to you. This is Tuesday edition. We are streaming live
- 0:05Speaker 1: at sportandstate.com, on YouTube, at Hutton & Withrow, Daily Wire, Facebook, X, podcast,
- 0:12Speaker 1: wherever you get your video or audio. That's where we
- 0:15Speaker 1: want to be with Sport and State and Hutton & Withrow.
- 0:17Speaker 1: He's Chad Withrow. I'm Jonathan Hutton. Chad, good morning to you, man.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Good morning, Hutton.
- 0:20Speaker 2: I was told yesterday by one of our viewers that
- 0:23Speaker 2: I should stop looking down at my phone.
- 0:25Speaker 1: During the show. I saw that. It was just a
- 0:28Speaker 1: very direct, it was a directive. It wasn't even like,
- 0:31Speaker 1: you know, helpful criticism. It was just, don't look at
- 0:34Speaker 1: your phone during the show.
- 0:36Speaker 2: And my response was, I'm looking down at my phone
- 0:39Speaker 2: because I am with our audience in the YouTube chat.
- 0:43Speaker 1: I will be there with you.
- 0:44Speaker 2: And if you've got a question or something that pops
- 0:46Speaker 2: out to you, I can then relay that back to
- 0:49Speaker 2: the audience. So I will not apologize. This is Conor
- 0:52Speaker 2: McGregor time. I apologize for absolutely nothing. I will not
- 0:56Speaker 2: apologize for looking down at my phone. I'll continue to
- 0:58Speaker 2: do so because I'm going to be in the YouTube
- 1:00Speaker 2: chat because that's where a lot of you will be, hopefully,
- 1:02Speaker 2: throughout the day. And I'll be interacting with you there.
- 1:05Speaker 2: But we're also on podcasts. We're also on the Daily
- 1:08Speaker 2: Wire's homepage. We're all over the place, Hutton. Wherever you
- 1:11Speaker 2: consume media, you can find the Hutton & Withrow Show.
- 1:14Speaker 2: And you can find me looking up at Hutton and
- 1:17Speaker 2: occasionally looking down at the phone at as I read
- 1:20Speaker 2: comments and what's happening. And I promise I'm not doing
- 1:23Speaker 2: online shopping. I'm not death scrolling Instagram. I'm actually looking
- 1:27Speaker 2: at the YouTube chat.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Chad, I would say this. There is a quality to
- 1:30Speaker 1: looking down at the phone, and here's why. If you're
- 1:34Speaker 1: watching a show or a podcast that is just directly
- 1:36Speaker 1: looking at the camera, they're on teleprompter. And we want
- 1:40Speaker 1: to be live so we can react in real time
- 1:42Speaker 1: to stories. We don't want to be scripted or edited.
- 1:46Speaker 1: That's why we're live. That's Clay's belief, too. There is
- 1:50Speaker 1: a quality to that over quantity of just letting AI
- 1:54Speaker 1: write your scripts and reading off a prompter. I can
- 1:57Speaker 1: see chat in front of me. That's it. If I
- 2:02Speaker 1: get a text and our phone buzzes a lot, we're
- 2:04Speaker 1: going to look at our phones. Sorry.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Look, if I was looking at my phone, I couldn't
- 2:08Speaker 2: see that David already bright and early this morning is
- 2:11Speaker 2: saying that he called it that Dart was going to
- 2:13Speaker 2: be back in the blue tent at some point before
- 2:15Speaker 2: the season. I wouldn't have known that David called it
- 2:18Speaker 2: before the season even started with Jackson Dart had I
- 2:20Speaker 2: not been looking down. So I will continue looking down
- 2:23Speaker 2: and glancing down at the phone to see what's going
- 2:25Speaker 2: on in the YouTube chat. I make no apologies for it.
- 2:28Speaker 2: And you're right, Hutton, live is the best way to
- 2:29Speaker 2: do it. That's why Clay wanted a live network all day.
- 2:32Speaker 2: That's why we're live every morning. None of this is scripted.
- 2:36Speaker 2: I can promise you that. I am looking right into
- 2:38Speaker 2: a camera lens and right into Jonathan Hutton's beautiful eyes
- 2:41Speaker 2: the entire day.
- 2:42Speaker 1: That's all that I'm seeing.
- 2:43Speaker 2: That and the YouTube chat is what I'll be looking
- 2:46Speaker 2: for every single day.
- 2:47Speaker 1: And I hope to see a lot of you in there.
- 2:49Speaker 1: We'll get to last night's game coming up. You mentioned
- 2:52Speaker 1: Jackson Dart. They're fortunate that he's only out, what, four
- 2:55Speaker 1: to six weeks is the initial report on things. It
- 2:59Speaker 1: looked worse than that. Reports were he tried to come
- 3:02Speaker 1: back in the game. They had to physically take his
- 3:05Speaker 1: pads and his jersey away from him when he came back.
- 3:08Speaker 1: That would have been unbelievable. I also knew my bet
- 3:10Speaker 1: with Hard Rock Bet was going to fail. As soon
- 3:13Speaker 1: as he went down and Jameis Winston came in, I
- 3:17Speaker 1: thought you were going to hit on your way over
- 3:20Speaker 1: on Skadabo. I like the chances there with a run game,
- 3:25Speaker 1: but man, I knew that the Rams were going to
- 3:27Speaker 1: be one and one. We knew the Titans were going
- 3:30Speaker 1: to be 0-2. That was just the foregone conclusion. Even
- 3:34Speaker 1: though Cam Ward was going into year two, Chad, everyone
- 3:37Speaker 1: expected them to be where they are right now. That's
- 3:40Speaker 1: not a good sign. Look, we know that Kyle Brandt,
- 3:46Speaker 1: who came in for the new uniform unveiling and hosted that. Coincidence,
- 3:51Speaker 1: by the way?
- 3:52Speaker 2: Coincidence that the guy gets paid, I mean, probably, I
- 3:55Speaker 2: don't know, $ 100K or $ 50K. I don't know. Or whatever
- 3:58Speaker 2: it is to come in and host that. Happens to
- 4:00Speaker 2: have the Titans winning the AFC South. And I love
- 4:02Speaker 2: Kyle Brandt.
- 4:03Speaker 1: I do too, man.
- 4:04Speaker 2: I love the dude. He's awesome on air. He's got
- 4:06Speaker 2: great energy. He's terrific at all times. But I feel
- 4:09Speaker 2: like that can't be a complete coincidence.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Yeah. And I didn't hear anybody else going, the Titans
- 4:14Speaker 1: are going to win the AFC South. They're one of
- 4:17Speaker 1: three teams, by the way, in the AFC South, 0-2. Yeah.
- 4:21Speaker 1: unlike the Texans and the Colts, no one was picked
- 4:24Speaker 1: in the playoffs. Cam Ward was expected to improve, and
- 4:29Speaker 1: while we can say he looks better than he did
- 4:31Speaker 1: the first two games from last year, that's not saying
- 4:33Speaker 1: very much. It's all short passes. Now, he did do
- 4:37Speaker 1: better in a short passing game this past week, but
- 4:39Speaker 1: that is such a low bar from where we are
- 4:42Speaker 1: right now in year two with Brian Dable as his
- 4:45Speaker 1: offensive coordinator and really the head coach of the offense. And, Chad,
- 4:49Speaker 1: I look at Ward– And locally, and I guess across
- 4:55Speaker 1: the board, really, there's almost a reason to– not excuses.
- 5:01Speaker 1: I wouldn't say they're making excuses. I think it's more hope.
- 5:04Speaker 1: Everyone's hopeful that the Titans are going to turn things
- 5:06Speaker 1: around and change the narrative. You know, I say a lot.
- 5:09Speaker 1: I don't root for a team necessarily. I'm rooting for
- 5:12Speaker 1: a storyline more than a team result. When the Chiefs
- 5:15Speaker 1: are winning back-to-back-to-back or they're going on– I'm tired of
- 5:18Speaker 1: talking about the same thing every Super Bowl Monday. Mm-hmm.
- 5:21Speaker 1: I want to change the result. I would like to
- 5:22Speaker 1: see the Titans get back to their winning ways. It
- 5:25Speaker 1: would change the morale and do a lot for football
- 5:28Speaker 1: in the city on Sundays instead of just seeing beatdowns.
- 5:31Speaker 1: That wasn't the case this past week. But are we
- 5:36Speaker 1: seeing the coaching staff even acknowledge what we're saying right now?
- 5:39Speaker 1: That there hasn't been the marked improvement? And before we
- 5:43Speaker 1: go and say, well, he played better, there's no consistency
- 5:46Speaker 1: with what we're seeing. Did we see a consistent... five
- 5:50Speaker 1: practices from Cam Ward during camp. I never heard about that.
- 5:54Speaker 1: It's always one-on, one-off. And that's what we're seeing here.
- 5:58Speaker 1: There's got to be more. He's got to stack some
- 6:00Speaker 1: performances and fast. And it's hard to do whenever you're
- 6:04Speaker 1: settling for field goals. Yeah, and look, he didn't... It
- 6:07Speaker 1: wasn't a turnover fest to where he took the Titans
- 6:11Speaker 1: out of the game. But he also wasn't good in
- 6:15Speaker 1: this game, right? I mean... It's not like he lived
- 6:18Speaker 1: the world on fire. You can say he's better, but
- 6:22Speaker 1: I can't say he's good. That's right.
- 6:24Speaker 2: Yeah. Cam Ward, 13-20, 183 yards, four rushes for seven yards,
- 6:27Speaker 2: two rushing touchdowns against the Eagles. But there's just got
- 6:33Speaker 2: to come a time where you take the training wheels
- 6:34Speaker 2: off a guy. He has been coddled at every turn
- 6:38Speaker 2: by that organization. He gets into a dust-up with a reporter,
- 6:42Speaker 2: let's kick the reporter.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Out and revoke his credential.
- 6:45Speaker 2: If someone is mean to my baby online, his dad's
- 6:48Speaker 2: going to hit up the guy and go after him.
- 6:51Speaker 2: He's got agents going after people or publicity people that
- 6:56Speaker 2: are going after people. It's time to take the gloves
- 6:59Speaker 2: off and get rid of the training wheels with a
- 7:01Speaker 2: second-year guy who is the number one pick, that quarterback,
- 7:07Speaker 2: to do something. Hutton, what we wanted for a long
- 7:09Speaker 2: time during the Brian Callahan regime, as long as he
- 7:13Speaker 2: was here, was– Let's get some adults in the room.
- 7:16Speaker 2: Not that Brian Callahan was a bad guy, but it
- 7:18Speaker 2: just felt like an unserious operation for the Titans.
- 7:22Speaker 1: Right. Where it was much more serious with.
- 7:24Speaker 2: Mike Vrabel and John Robinson at this. You had a
- 7:28Speaker 2: GM and director or president of football operations that you
- 7:32Speaker 2: didn't know what the job description was at times for
- 7:35Speaker 2: either one.
- 7:35Speaker 1: Who did what?
- 7:36Speaker 2: Chad Brinker couldn't even describe what he was doing, right?
- 7:39Speaker 1: Right. You wanted direction. You wanted someone who this person's
- 7:43Speaker 1: in charge. You want daddy at the wheel at 2 a.m.
- 7:47Speaker 1: as he's driving you to the beach for spring break
- 7:50Speaker 1: or for fall break, right? You want 10 and 2, right?
- 7:53Speaker 2: I want dad up there with a hot piping thermos
- 7:56Speaker 2: of coffee, and I can sleep in the back seat
- 7:58Speaker 2: knowing that dad's got us, and he's going to drive
- 8:01Speaker 2: us all the way to the beach when you're a kid.
- 8:03Speaker 2: That's what the Titans need in terms of leadership and
- 8:06Speaker 2: what they needed in a head coach. Now that they
- 8:09Speaker 2: have it, what is the message that dad is giving
- 8:13Speaker 2: back to everyone? Because Brian Dayball is an adult in
- 8:15Speaker 2: the room when it comes to offense as an offensive coordinator.
- 8:20Speaker 2: I think what Sunday showed us is that when the
- 8:23Speaker 2: game is on the line and the game is tight,
- 8:25Speaker 2: we're going to go put it on our defense and
- 8:27Speaker 2: not on Cam Ward. When it's third and seven or
- 8:30Speaker 2: third and nine in an obvious passing situation, we're going
- 8:34Speaker 2: to run a draw and kick the ball. whether that
- 8:36Speaker 2: be a punt or a field goal. We're not going
- 8:38Speaker 2: to press the issue because we don't trust this guy.
- 8:42Speaker 2: My argument would be it's time to do something with
- 8:46Speaker 2: him one way or the other. If that's the case,
- 8:49Speaker 2: there are plenty of teams in college that bring on
- 8:52Speaker 2: the running option on third and short or fourth and short,
- 8:55Speaker 2: and that bigger quarterback runs the football for a first down.
- 8:59Speaker 2: If you're telling me with your play calling and that
- 9:01Speaker 2: you go that conservative that you don't trust Cam Ward
- 9:04Speaker 2: to throw the ball, and a key third down, bring
- 9:07Speaker 2: in Mitch Trubisky to throw the ball. Or let Cam
- 9:10Speaker 2: Ward throw it. My solution would be let Cam Ward
- 9:14Speaker 2: let it rip. It is time to let him sink
- 9:16Speaker 2: or swim one way or the other.
- 9:18Speaker 1: Here's the problem with that. They did try to pass on.
- 9:22Speaker 1: We're going to the final drive, right? That's what we're
- 9:24Speaker 1: going to discuss first. The final drive where they kick
- 9:26Speaker 1: a field goal instead of going for the touchdown. Eagles
- 9:28Speaker 1: get the ball back, drive down, and win the game
- 9:30Speaker 1: with a touchdown. The problem with that is J.C. Latham
- 9:33Speaker 1: can't block on first down, and there's a sack. They're
- 9:37Speaker 1: snapping from, what, the nine? They take a big loss
- 9:41Speaker 1: right on first down. Ward's back to pass and gets
- 9:45Speaker 1: immediately dropped by Carter, who just blows past J.C. Latham
- 9:48Speaker 1: on the right. That's the issue here, is if they
- 9:52Speaker 1: call a play, Ward's going to be sacked on third
- 9:55Speaker 1: and long, and they're backing up the field goal. I
- 9:58Speaker 1: think they just played to to try to win the
- 10:01Speaker 1: game instead of, you know, take the chance that all
- 10:06Speaker 1: of these other factors, plus the fact that they're not
- 10:09Speaker 1: aggressive with Cam Ward whatsoever. I mean, he has the
- 10:11Speaker 1: fewest air yards per attempt of any quarterback who has
- 10:15Speaker 1: started two games so far this season. They're just keeping
- 10:18Speaker 1: things train wheels only. And I'm with you, man. They've
- 10:21Speaker 1: got to unleash that. But he also, I mean, he is,
- 10:25Speaker 1: I think he has eight completions all season when he's
- 10:29Speaker 1: held the ball for two and a half seconds or longer.
- 10:31Speaker 1: I'm going to double check this. I took a screenshot
- 10:33Speaker 1: of this. That's wild. I know. If he's back to pass,
- 10:37Speaker 1: he either feels pressure that's not there or he actually
- 10:40Speaker 1: is pressured and he's dropped. Now, they didn't give up
- 10:43Speaker 1: a lot of sacks. I think that Carter got him.
- 10:46Speaker 1: But overall, he's feeling the heat. And in the biggest moment,
- 10:50Speaker 1: the guy is, you know, J.C. Latham's giving up the sack.
- 10:54Speaker 1: I mean, it was just a total whiff on this.
- 10:58Speaker 1: Then you second down, you hand it off, and it's
- 11:00Speaker 1: a short gain or a line of scrimmage. And now
- 11:03Speaker 1: it's third and long. And, I mean, the last time
- 11:07Speaker 1: they did this, they did a quick draw play and
- 11:10Speaker 1: actually ran the ball okay. I don't agree with not
- 11:15Speaker 1: showing aggressive play there. But I also understand there are
- 11:20Speaker 1: a lot of factors of guys around this offense that
- 11:23Speaker 1: are not picking up their end of the bargain either.
- 11:26Speaker 1: And Ward has to be the leader and the frontrunner
- 11:28Speaker 1: of this. There has to be consistency, even though the
- 11:31Speaker 1: players around him are not, you know, with it every play.
- 11:35Speaker 1: And the offensive line the first two games has been okay.
- 11:39Speaker 1: But Ward is, you know, he's gun-shy. Last year he
- 11:42Speaker 1: was getting, you know, whipped, beaten up. by the defensive line.
- 11:47Speaker 1: That's not making the excuse for him. He hasn't played well. But,
- 11:51Speaker 1: you know, the short passing game is all they have,
- 11:53Speaker 1: and that's really an extension of the run game.
- 11:55Speaker 2: Well, and look, it's week two. So I'm for the
- 11:58Speaker 2: coaches doing what they think is best to win the game.
- 12:01Speaker 2: And in that moment, I don't– I believe them, by
- 12:04Speaker 2: the way. Like the best thing to win that game
- 12:06Speaker 2: was probably to rely on the defense at that point
- 12:08Speaker 2: and to kick a field goal and to not put
- 12:10Speaker 2: it in Cam Ward's hands based on what you had
- 12:12Speaker 2: seen and not put it on the offensive line.
- 12:14Speaker 1: Based on what you had seen from them. I'm not
- 12:17Speaker 1: disagreeing with that.
- 12:18Speaker 2: My point is, maybe I'm a little quick to give
- 12:20Speaker 2: up hope on this season for the Titans, but from
- 12:23Speaker 2: what I've seen from this roster and this team, you've
- 12:26Speaker 2: got to figure out if you've got.
- 12:27Speaker 1: The quarterback or not this year.
- 12:30Speaker 2: It's time to put it on his arm and his
- 12:32Speaker 2: decision-making and let him go be an NFL quarterback or
- 12:36Speaker 2: move on. If you feel like he can't do it
- 12:39Speaker 2: on third and seven, or he's going to make a
- 12:41Speaker 2: bad decision, or he's going to sense pressure that's not there,
- 12:43Speaker 2: or J.C. Latham sucks and is going to give up
- 12:46Speaker 2: a sack, then put Mitch Trubisky in, who knows the
- 12:49Speaker 2: Brian Dayball system, and see what he can do.
- 12:51Speaker 1: I don't want to do that, by the way.
- 12:53Speaker 2: But I'm saying if that's going to be your decision consistently,
- 12:56Speaker 2: and all we know is this one game when they
- 12:57Speaker 2: were in it.
- 12:58Speaker 1: They were never in the Jets game.
- 13:00Speaker 2: But when they were in it to win it late
- 13:02Speaker 2: in the game, these were the decisions– that the coaching
- 13:04Speaker 2: staff made. Dwayne on the YouTube chat says, on first
- 13:08Speaker 2: and goal, Latham looked awful.
- 13:10Speaker 1: Yes.
- 13:10Speaker 2: But there was another defender waiting, and Ellic Isle Manor
- 13:14Speaker 2: was covered with a boot to a one-man route on
- 13:16Speaker 2: that side. That's the other thing you could do, by
- 13:18Speaker 2: the way, is bring in tight ends or running back
- 13:21Speaker 2: to help block and protect your quarterback. But obviously, you're
- 13:24Speaker 2: giving up other guys in the formation at that point,
- 13:27Speaker 2: which makes it more difficult on the quarterback also when
- 13:29Speaker 2: you've got guys who aren't getting open at receivers. So,
- 13:33Speaker 2: There's a lot of issues for the Titans. But to me,
- 13:35Speaker 2: the biggest issue is quarterback and figuring out whether or
- 13:39Speaker 2: not this guy can play in the NFL. And I
- 13:41Speaker 2: don't think you're doing that by not allowing him to
- 13:44Speaker 2: be an NFL quarterback on third and passing situations.
- 13:47Speaker 1: Now, let's also say Dable is known for the short
- 13:49Speaker 1: passing game, short to intermediate. That helps accuracy, the short game.
- 13:54Speaker 1: He's got to take the layups. Now, in this game,
- 13:57Speaker 1: it's from Jim Wyatt. Titans quarterback Cam Ward was 8-for-8
- 14:01Speaker 1: for 87 yards on quick passes. Anything under 2.5 seconds.
- 14:06Speaker 1: Ward was 5-of-12 for 96 yards and a sack when
- 14:09Speaker 1: holding the ball for longer than 2.5 seconds. So if
- 14:11Speaker 1: he's holding the ball, he's not doing anything with it.
- 14:15Speaker 1: They're not pushing down the field. We haven't seen Carnell
- 14:16Speaker 1: Tate do anything. And here's the other thing. Wondell Robinson.
- 14:21Speaker 1: Is he on this team? Last year, with New York,
- 14:26Speaker 1: he had 14 catches for 197 yards through two games.
- 14:30Speaker 1: This year, six catches for 47 yards. I mean, that's
- 14:34Speaker 1: got to pick up. If you're not throwing it to
- 14:37Speaker 1: Cardale Tate, you better start throwing it to the guy
- 14:42Speaker 1: that's going to be the safety valve here. Alec Eidelman
- 14:45Speaker 1: has done a nice job. And Ward had a nice
- 14:50Speaker 1: pass to him on a slant route. He's done some
- 14:53Speaker 1: nice things in this past game, but there's nothing consistent
- 14:56Speaker 1: that makes me think that's going to continue. That's where
- 14:59Speaker 1: they've got to go out and prove it. And 0-2
- 15:01Speaker 1: is 0-2, you know, like that speaks for itself.
- 15:05Speaker 2: Well, and at what point are you just, you're just
- 15:08Speaker 2: in evaluation mode, right? Like I know coaches can't go
- 15:12Speaker 2: into it and be like, hey, we're, We're just going
- 15:15Speaker 2: to do whatever to see this guy because, you know,
- 15:17Speaker 2: we're looking at it like an evaluation and not trying
- 15:19Speaker 2: to win the game. And I'm not asking the Titans
- 15:21Speaker 2: to tank or do any of that right now at all. But, like,
- 15:24Speaker 2: you've got to see that this is the biggest part
- 15:28Speaker 2: of the organization right now.
- 15:29Speaker 1: Yes.
- 15:30Speaker 2: For the coaches, for everyone, is you've got to see
- 15:32Speaker 2: with Cam Ward. And I don't know– at this point,
- 15:36Speaker 2: if you continue to lose– At what point does it
- 15:39Speaker 2: matter when you pull the plug or not?
- 15:41Speaker 1: Or do you just use it as an evaluation tool
- 15:43Speaker 1: the rest of the year? They have to let Dable
- 15:45Speaker 1: work with him. They have to give him a chance
- 15:48Speaker 1: to actually develop this guy. Yeah. Longer than two weeks,
- 15:52Speaker 1: I'm saying. But here's another factor. This is from Cameron Wolfe.
- 15:56Speaker 1: Great point. He says, unheralded play of the game. Eagles
- 15:59Speaker 1: win over the Titans. First to go from the nine,
- 16:01Speaker 1: Jalen Carter. Carter told me he noticed Cam Ward had
- 16:04Speaker 1: a tendency to dip his shoulder with slow bootleg fakes.
- 16:08Speaker 1: went full attack and made the first sack of the year.
- 16:11Speaker 1: That's the mental edge because the Titans had a 79%
- 16:13Speaker 1: chance of winning this game at that stage. And then
- 16:16Speaker 1: they dropped him for a sack. And that's when he
- 16:19Speaker 1: blew past J.C. Latham. That's what the Titans aren't doing, right?
- 16:24Speaker 1: Those things. The good players, Jeffrey Simmons, are making plays.
- 16:30Speaker 1: But Kaharski said this. I agree with him. When the
- 16:33Speaker 1: Eagles got the ball back, I knew they were going
- 16:35Speaker 1: to go down and score. Didn't you? I mean, they weren't...
- 16:38Speaker 1: That's the difference between Hurts and the ability to execute
- 16:43Speaker 1: with throwing the ball downfield with receivers who are going
- 16:46Speaker 1: to make the difficult catch look great. And that's what
- 16:51Speaker 1: happened with Devontae Smith and others. Wicks. Wicks was great.
- 16:55Speaker 1: Where's that version on the Titans? They're not doing that.
- 16:58Speaker 1: But the quarterback has to make the right read, the
- 17:00Speaker 1: right play. And Hurts isn't known for throwing across the middle.
- 17:03Speaker 1: He did in this game. And now, again, I'm with you, man.
- 17:08Speaker 1: They have to show development with him. Same story. We're
- 17:14Speaker 1: talking about the same thing again. I guess it's either first.
- 17:18Speaker 1: They will win a couple of games in December that
- 17:21Speaker 1: will keep them from the first pick. That's the storyline
- 17:24Speaker 1: for them.
- 17:25Speaker 2: And then the big storyline also is going to be
- 17:26Speaker 2: who is that quarterback that's going to be number one,
- 17:29Speaker 2: probably the number one pick. Is Trinidad Chambliss in the
- 17:32Speaker 2: discussion now for the number one overall pick? And the
- 17:36Speaker 2: Titans aren't there yet. And who's coaching them? To reiterate, too,
- 17:43Speaker 2: we've got to see whether or not you're drafting quarterback
- 17:46Speaker 2: with your first pick. And to do that, let's take
- 17:50Speaker 2: the kid gloves off with Cam Ward. He's a big
- 17:53Speaker 2: boy now. He played a lot of college football. He's
- 17:56Speaker 2: played a full year in the NFL. He's into season
- 17:59Speaker 2: number two. I'm with you that Brian Dayball has to
- 18:02Speaker 2: be allowed to work with him and try to develop
- 18:04Speaker 2: him more.
- 18:05Speaker 1: But let's start to see more of that. Totally agree.
- 18:09Speaker 1: There's another discussion point we can kick to later this
- 18:13Speaker 1: week with the backup quarterback discussion and how the coaches
- 18:18Speaker 1: may feel one way because they're trying to win that game, right?
- 18:22Speaker 1: They had that game. And man, you just didn't have
- 18:26Speaker 1: a quarterback and the players around to stay on the
- 18:29Speaker 1: field in the first half. Couldn't do it. Chad, a
- 18:33Speaker 1: lot to get to today. Coming up, we have the
- 18:36Speaker 1: best vibes. across college football. We had the worst. Now
- 18:40Speaker 1: it's time for the best. I have a feeling we
- 18:42Speaker 1: know number one.
- 18:45Speaker 2: You should have a feeling that maybe we were inside
- 18:47Speaker 2: of number one this past weekend.
- 18:50Speaker 1: Yes. And then believe it or I don't believe it.
- 18:55Speaker 1: That's coming up for the 0-2 teams with the chances
- 18:58Speaker 1: to make the playoffs. We will discuss one of the
- 19:00Speaker 1: teams in the AFC South, not the three that are
- 19:04Speaker 1: currently 0-2. It's honey with rope. We are presented by
- 19:07Speaker 1: Hard Rock Bet. It's Hudson and Withrow presented by Hard

- 20:04Speaker 2: Vibes in Pittsburgh with the Steelers. Vibes with Los Angeles Rams.
- 20:09Speaker 2: And we were getting Cam Ward throwing receivers under the bus,
- 20:15Speaker 2: flattening the routes. Talking about throwing someone under the bus.
- 20:19Speaker 1: Rogers. We'll get to that coming up. First, though, vibes
- 20:23Speaker 1: across college football. Best vibes, Chad. You've got your top five. Yes.
- 20:27Speaker 2: Best vibes, college football. I'll have worse vibes tomorrow coming
- 20:31Speaker 2: off this week. And this is a culmination. This is
- 20:34Speaker 2: not just season to date sometimes. It could just be
- 20:37Speaker 2: in the moment, could be a big bounce back, and
- 20:39Speaker 2: you're going to see one giant bounce back for one
- 20:41Speaker 2: of these teams. It's going to be in the top
- 20:42Speaker 2: five best vibes. With all due respect to Southern Miss,
- 20:47Speaker 2: and I think their one and two start on the season,
- 20:50Speaker 2: number one is the state of Mississippi.
- 20:53Speaker 1: Best vibes.
- 20:54Speaker 2: Ole Miss and Mississippi State.
- 20:57Speaker 1: They're feeling like they're living right right now.
- 21:00Speaker 2: Ole Miss, obviously, with the gigantic win in the game
- 21:04Speaker 2: of the week, maybe the game of the year in
- 21:05Speaker 2: the SEC, on Saturday night where they beat Lane Kiffin
- 21:08Speaker 2: in his homecoming, and they're feeling really good about things.
- 21:11Speaker 2: Mississippi State, Kamario Taylor is outstanding. Goes on the road
- 21:16Speaker 2: and beat South Carolina. Now, let me nitpick here a
- 21:20Speaker 2: little bit, Hutton, because this is starting to bother me.
- 21:23Speaker 2: I've been sending you guys... tweets and videos of people
- 21:27Speaker 2: just assuming that Kamario Taylor is done at Mississippi State
- 21:31Speaker 2: after this year. The immediate talk is someone's going to
- 21:34Speaker 2: pay him $ 10 million to come be the guy for their.
- 21:38Speaker 1: Team, right?
- 21:39Speaker 2: This is what bothers me at times about college football today,
- 21:43Speaker 2: that we.
- 21:43Speaker 1: Can't just enjoy this guy who's from the state, who's
- 21:48Speaker 1: at Mississippi State, who grew up a Mississippi State fan,
- 21:51Speaker 1: who when he went there wanted to transform the Mississippi
- 21:54Speaker 1: State football, and all we're talking about instead of enjoying
- 21:58Speaker 1: what he's doing at Mississippi State is to start to
- 22:01Speaker 1: speculate if he's going to go to LSU or Ohio
- 22:05Speaker 1: State or wherever he's going to go that's going to
- 22:07Speaker 1: pay him top dollar. Let's let that get there when
- 22:11Speaker 1: there's actually a reason to believe he's leaving Mississippi State.
- 22:15Speaker 1: I believe, if I'm guessing right now, if I'm putting
- 22:18Speaker 1: money on it, I think DeMario Taylor's going to stay
- 22:21Speaker 1: at Mississippi State. I think they'll come up with whatever
- 22:22Speaker 1: they need to pay him. to stay and he's going
- 22:25Speaker 1: to be a multi-millionaire in a year anyways.
- 22:29Speaker 2: He's got two years of college football left. He's going
- 22:30Speaker 2: to enter the NFL draft. So he's going to spend
- 22:33Speaker 2: those two years at Mississippi State. Let's stop with all
- 22:35Speaker 2: the speculation about a guy who's a Mississippi guy who's
- 22:38Speaker 2: at Mississippi State that he's automatically going to leave for
- 22:42Speaker 2: some shinier, bigger program. But also, Hutton, I can't I
- 22:46Speaker 2: understand where that thought comes from, too. I hate that
- 22:48Speaker 2: people are talking about it already, but we all know
- 22:51Speaker 2: where that's coming from because we've seen it time and again.
- 22:54Speaker 1: And we haven't seen Mississippi State do it. That's the
- 22:58Speaker 1: other thing is you don't think about the Bulldogs whenever
- 23:00Speaker 1: it comes to NIL. You think about Ole Miss. The
- 23:05Speaker 1: other thing, too, is the perception is he's going to leave,
- 23:09Speaker 1: so I wonder what he feels like, what the agents
- 23:12Speaker 1: must be doing. you know, calling him up, whatever it
- 23:16Speaker 1: might be, during the season. You know, that's also going to–
- 23:21Speaker 1: so you've got all this mess going on behind the
- 23:23Speaker 1: scenes now, and there's pressure on him to– I mean,
- 23:25Speaker 1: he's going to be getting all kinds of offers during
- 23:27Speaker 1: the season. That's the other distracting factor that ultimately, you know,
- 23:32Speaker 1: maybe that factors in, Chad, whenever you're making the call
- 23:37Speaker 1: because you've got family members that are talking. I'm not
- 23:40Speaker 1: saying his family's telling him to leave. But in some cases,
- 23:43Speaker 1: I'm sure that happens to players. You feel the pressure
- 23:45Speaker 1: to take the bundle, take the bag. And Mississippi State
- 23:50Speaker 1: isn't known for handing out the bag.
- 23:53Speaker 2: I feel like he is a guy that will take
- 23:55Speaker 2: a little bit less to stay at Mississippi State. I
- 23:57Speaker 2: think he'll offer the slight hometown discount than what he's
- 24:00Speaker 2: going to get paid elsewhere to not have to leave.
- 24:03Speaker 1: That should be celebrated. Yeah, and especially if this season
- 24:05Speaker 1: continues to go well.
- 24:06Speaker 2: They're going to get Alabama and Starkville coming up pretty
- 24:09Speaker 2: soon also. Missouri's a huge game. You want to talk
- 24:12Speaker 2: about an underrated matchup. Austin Simmons, who's been terrific, the
- 24:16Speaker 2: transfer from Ole Miss to Missouri going against Kamario Taylor,
- 24:19Speaker 2: that's a big-time game. But you're feeling great if you're
- 24:22Speaker 2: a Mississippi football fan right now with Ole Miss and
- 24:25Speaker 2: Mississippi State and what's going on there. Would Dak Prescott
- 24:29Speaker 2: have stayed at Mississippi State back in 2014?
- 24:34Speaker 1: That would be the question.
- 24:35Speaker 2: In today's college football world, would they have been able
- 24:38Speaker 2: to retain someone like him with an open transfer portal
- 24:41Speaker 2: and with the ability for other programs to pay more money?
- 24:44Speaker 1: Well, I think so, because at that point, they were
- 24:46Speaker 1: number one. They had reached number one. Yeah. With Mullen.
- 24:52Speaker 1: Would Mullen have stayed? That's also a great question. No,
- 24:55Speaker 1: you're right.
- 24:57Speaker 2: And the answer there is probably no. Because overall, he
- 25:00Speaker 2: would not have had the bag of cash he would
- 25:01Speaker 2: have had at Florida.
- 25:02Speaker 1: He's taking... Prescott with him, right? Yes, possibly.
- 25:06Speaker 2: But, of course, Lane Kiffin thought he was taking Trinidad
- 25:08Speaker 2: Chambliss with him, and we saw how that worked out.
- 25:10Speaker 2: All right, number two, best vibes across college football. Florida Gators.
- 25:15Speaker 2: Is Florida back? I don't know that they're back. I
- 25:17Speaker 2: don't know that they're a.
- 25:19Speaker 1: Top five SEC team this year.
- 25:22Speaker 2: But I tell you what, that was a cathartic moment
- 25:24Speaker 2: for John Sumrall, who I know did not get along
- 25:27Speaker 2: with John Cohen at Auburn when they went to the
- 25:30Speaker 2: Plains and won on Saturday.
- 25:32Speaker 1: Okay. Huge win for the Gators. If you're a Florida fan,
- 25:35Speaker 1: you love the swagger of what you've seen from John
- 25:38Speaker 1: Sumrall at every turn. Except maybe when he's downplaying his
- 25:42Speaker 1: own team, going against Ole Miss when he finds out,
- 25:45Speaker 1: and I'm sure he found out for the first time here.
- 25:47Speaker 1: I doubt that's the case.
- 25:48Speaker 2: When he found out that his team was the betting
- 25:50Speaker 2: favorite in Vegas, here was John Sumrall's response.
- 25:56Speaker 1: You come into this week ranked and favored against a
- 26:01Speaker 1: top five team in the nation. Do you Use that
- 26:03Speaker 1: doubt this week to fuel it. Who's got his favorite
- 26:06Speaker 1: against these guys? Do they? There's a lot of good
- 26:10Speaker 1: drugs out there, huh? I mean. John Sumrall. A lot
- 26:17Speaker 1: of good drugs out there. I thought the same thing
- 26:19Speaker 1: based on the way I saw Trinidad Chambliss play. I'll
- 26:22Speaker 1: also say the exact same thought I had. Vegas knows. Yep.
- 26:28Speaker 1: Vegas knows.
- 26:30Speaker 2: That was a very emotional, draining week and game for
- 26:34Speaker 2: Ole Miss. And now they're going to the Swamp to
- 26:37Speaker 2: play this game. Very tough turnaround for Ole Miss.
- 26:40Speaker 1: What time is that game? You're going to have to
- 26:43Speaker 1: look it up. I keep going.
- 26:45Speaker 2: I'm not exactly sure when that game is going to
- 26:47Speaker 2: be played. It's one of the, you know, what is it,
- 26:50Speaker 2: seven top.
- 26:51Speaker 1: 25 matchups this week? 2.30 Central, 3.30 Eastern. Okay. It's
- 26:54Speaker 1: one of many top 25 matchups. I know that this weekend.
- 26:57Speaker 1: We'll get the full TV schedule for you.
- 26:59Speaker 2: But, I mean, goodness gracious, what a week in the
- 27:01Speaker 2: SEC alone with top 25 matchups. I mean, pick your
- 27:05Speaker 2: poison for all those big games, and we'll be at
- 27:08Speaker 2: one of them with Tennessee and Texas.
- 27:10Speaker 1: Florida's number two.
- 27:11Speaker 2: Florida fans are feeling like they've got something going now
- 27:13Speaker 2: with Sumrall, and they've got a big opportunity against a
- 27:16Speaker 2: top five team on Saturday at 3.30 Eastern time.
- 27:20Speaker 1: Number three, Kentucky Wildcats. Same thing as Florida.
- 27:24Speaker 2: You feel like you've got your guy with Will Stein.
- 27:26Speaker 2: Will Stein was telling his fans to get drunk and
- 27:30Speaker 2: then get drunker in the stadium against Alabama by sneaking
- 27:33Speaker 2: alcohol in and screaming obscenities at Alabama players. Kentucky fans
- 27:38Speaker 2: are going to love that. Bourbon capital of the world.
- 27:41Speaker 2: They're going to love hearing about getting drunk and yelling
- 27:43Speaker 2: at Alabama fans. Then they have a disappointing second half.
- 27:46Speaker 2: They give up a ton of unanswered points. They lose
- 27:49Speaker 2: after being in the game in the first half.
- 27:50Speaker 1: How do they respond?
- 27:52Speaker 2: They go to College Station and just win wire to wire.
- 27:56Speaker 2: against A & M.
- 27:57Speaker 1: No fluke.
- 27:58Speaker 2: They were the better football team start to finish. They
- 28:00Speaker 2: had a better game plan. He out-schemed Mike Elko.
- 28:03Speaker 1: After they didn't finish against Bama.
- 28:06Speaker 2: Made his defense, Mike Elko, known for defense, made his
- 28:08Speaker 2: defense look bad at times. Looked like they just had
- 28:11Speaker 2: a better plan in that game. Kentucky's feeling great right
- 28:14Speaker 2: now with Will Stein as their coach. Number four, West Virginia.
- 28:21Speaker 2: It's not just because Country Roads has gone everywhere. It's
- 28:23Speaker 2: infected every part of our life in sports because of
- 28:26Speaker 2: the World Cup this past year and Team USA using
- 28:29Speaker 2: it and then everyone else wanted to use it. The
- 28:31Speaker 2: college baseball run for West Virginia, the World Series, that's
- 28:34Speaker 2: where it started with everyone singing Country Roads. People are
- 28:37Speaker 2: singing Country Roads now because Rich Rodriguez picked up a
- 28:40Speaker 2: gigantic win on Saturday in Charlotte against Virginia. West Virginia,
- 28:46Speaker 2: 3-0 on the season, okay? Going through their schedule. They've
- 28:51Speaker 2: got Oklahoma State at home this week. They should win
- 28:53Speaker 2: that game. They've got at Iowa State. Matt Campbell's not
- 28:57Speaker 2: there anymore. That's a very winnable game. Then they get
- 29:00Speaker 2: Arizona and Cincinnati at home. Tough place to play in Morgantown.
- 29:05Speaker 2: They go to TCU. This could set up. It's a
- 29:09Speaker 2: long way to go.
- 29:10Speaker 1: But this could set up where they could be 8-0
- 29:14Speaker 1: playing in Lubbock on November 7th for West Virginia. That
- 29:19Speaker 1: Big 12, I think, is wide open. I think Texas
- 29:22Speaker 1: Tech is the best, but they're, what, a half a
- 29:25Speaker 1: yard or less away from possibly losing to Houston on
- 29:28Speaker 1: Friday night. Maybe it's Utah that's the best in the
- 29:31Speaker 1: Big 12.
- 29:32Speaker 2: They've still got to go to Utah at the end
- 29:33Speaker 2: of the year, but point being, West Virginia's not been
- 29:36Speaker 2: relevant in quite some time. They got a chance for
- 29:39Speaker 2: relevancy in the Big 12 this year if they continue
- 29:42Speaker 2: to do what they did on Saturday, which was surprising
- 29:44Speaker 2: to me. They were a 10.5-point underdog against Virginia, and
- 29:48Speaker 2: to win that way, impressive feat for West Virginia. They're
- 29:52Speaker 2: number four on my list.
- 29:53Speaker 1: Country roads. Always great vibes when the song comes on
- 29:56Speaker 1: the stage. Hey, I would say they're a lot like
- 30:01Speaker 1: a pack of teams right now, teams like 10 through
- 30:04Speaker 1: 18 to 20, where they're going to move up just
- 30:09Speaker 1: because SEC is going to beat the crap out of
- 30:11Speaker 1: each other now. You know, the gauntlet's about to begin,
- 30:15Speaker 1: and the best vibes are, is it, who is, Indiana's
- 30:20Speaker 1: playing some directional school. Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no.
- 30:24Speaker 1: We're going to get to Indiana. We're going to get
- 30:26Speaker 1: to Indiana number five on the list. Okay, sorry. Okay.
- 30:28Speaker 1: Number five on the list. This is a perfect segue, Hutton,
- 30:31Speaker 1: what you're getting. It's Northwestern. They're not playing a directional school, Hutton.
- 30:36Speaker 1: They are playing a school that has a direction in
- 30:38Speaker 1: their name in Northwestern. Indiana and Northwestern, Friday night, 7
- 30:43Speaker 1: o'clock Central Time, kickoff on Fox. Northwestern just housed Colorado.
- 30:48Speaker 1: They're feeling great. They're 2-0.
- 30:50Speaker 2: By the way, why the hell would you have a
- 30:52Speaker 2: bye week in Week 2 if you're Northwestern? They beat
- 30:55Speaker 2: South Dakota State. If you remember, that was my big
- 30:56Speaker 2: upset pick. in the first week of the season with
- 30:59Speaker 2: South Dakota State going to Northwestern.
- 31:00Speaker 1: They win that game.
- 31:01Speaker 2: Then they have an immediate bye week the week after,
- 31:04Speaker 2: and then they play Colorado this last weekend and beat them.
- 31:07Speaker 2: You got Deion Sanders, Coach Prime, saying afterwards he had
- 31:10Speaker 2: to chew guys out because they were laughing and joking
- 31:12Speaker 2: around after getting beat so bad by Northwestern walking back
- 31:16Speaker 2: to the locker room, and he doesn't understand how anyone
- 31:18Speaker 2: could be that way, could be happy and be joking
- 31:21Speaker 2: after a loss like that, which I love that from Deion.
- 31:24Speaker 2: You got to love it if you're Northwestern right now.
- 31:25Speaker 2: They're 2-0 in the season. They're a 21-point underdog at
- 31:29Speaker 2: Indiana on Friday night. I don't think Northwestern is going
- 31:32Speaker 2: to go to Indiana and win, but you're feeling pretty good.
- 31:34Speaker 2: You've got a new stadium about to open. They're going
- 31:37Speaker 2: to open that stadium with their game against Penn State
- 31:39Speaker 2: if you're Northwestern. You feel good about your young head
- 31:42Speaker 2: football coach. You just beat Coach Prime in Colorado, who's
- 31:46Speaker 2: got a nice win over Georgia Tech already.
- 31:49Speaker 1: You beat them bad.
- 31:50Speaker 2: Now you're going to Indiana and Kurt Cignetti, Darth Vader,
- 31:55Speaker 2: of the big 10 and maybe college football right now
- 31:58Speaker 2: probably has plans for Northwestern, but right now Hutton on Tuesday,
- 32:02Speaker 2: September 22nd, you're feeling good. You're a top five college
- 32:07Speaker 2: football vibes team. If you're the Northwestern Wildcats.
- 32:11Speaker 1: So how do you feel like, yes, enjoy the, enjoy
- 32:15Speaker 1: the embrace. Enjoy it right now. Yes. I mean, Penn
- 32:20Speaker 1: state right now is three and oh, I mean, that's
- 32:22Speaker 1: a different feel. Yeah. That's a different vibe. And they've
- 32:27Speaker 1: got Wisconsin coming up. And then they have that matchup
- 32:30Speaker 1: against Northwestern, as you mentioned. But, I mean, again, that's
- 32:34Speaker 1: another example of a team that's going to move up
- 32:36Speaker 1: or should. And you've got the coach now. They haven't
- 32:39Speaker 1: played anybody. But, I mean. Penn State, Hutton. Yeah.
- 32:45Speaker 2: 45-0 over Marshall. 27-9 over Temple. 55-13 over Buffalo. They
- 32:49Speaker 2: get a terrible Wisconsin team at home. They go to Northwestern.
- 32:53Speaker 2: They get USC, who squeaked by Rutgers.
- 32:56Speaker 1: Barely.
- 32:57Speaker 2: This past week. They get them at home. I can't
- 33:00Speaker 2: find two losses on their schedule.
- 33:02Speaker 1: Nope.
- 33:03Speaker 2: I definitely can't find three losses. Maybe they lose at Michigan.
- 33:07Speaker 2: Maybe they lose at Washington.
- 33:10Speaker 1: But they get Minnesota and Rutgers at home.
- 33:12Speaker 2: I mean, this is going to be the easiest path
- 33:14Speaker 2: to a college football playoff in year one for Matt
- 33:17Speaker 2: Campbell that we've ever seen.
- 33:20Speaker 1: It's a Notre Dame schedule this year.
- 33:21Speaker 2: I mean, Notre Dame even has a hard time scheduling
- 33:24Speaker 2: this week, and they're independent. This, to me, is where
- 33:28Speaker 2: the Big Ten, you've got no bragging rights on this.
- 33:32Speaker 2: This is impossible in the SEC. You cannot have a
- 33:35Speaker 2: schedule where you don't see at least three pitfalls on
- 33:39Speaker 2: the schedule for every team in the SEC. I don't
- 33:42Speaker 2: see any way Penn State loses three games this year,
- 33:45Speaker 2: not one.
- 33:46Speaker 1: They are 10-2 at worst. On the schedule. Is it
- 33:49Speaker 1: just one top 25 matchup for the Big Ten this week?
- 33:52Speaker 1: And that would be Iowa and Michigan. Yeah. I think
- 33:55Speaker 1: that's it.
- 33:57Speaker 2: Maybe two. Maybe two. But yeah, I think maybe just one.
- 34:00Speaker 2: There's a graphic that has all of them. I'll find it.
- 34:03Speaker 2: The SEC is just stacked this week.
- 34:05Speaker 1: You know? And you've got... The difference in college game
- 34:09Speaker 1: day is going to another SEC campus. Of course they would.
- 34:15Speaker 1: People are pissed about that, too. Well, I mean... Why?
- 34:18Speaker 1: I mean, a big new kickoff's going to the Big Ten.
- 34:20Speaker 1: We know that. You know? Yeah. I mean, that makes sense. Like,
- 34:24Speaker 1: everyone's like, oh, the SEC bias. I'm like, well, Foxes
- 34:27Speaker 1: has the Big Ten, and they're going to a Big
- 34:28Speaker 1: Ten campus. That makes sense to me. Yeah, I don't...
- 34:32Speaker 1: I don't understand that game day is, like, supposed to support, like, represent,
- 34:36Speaker 1: not support, represent all of college football. But why wouldn't
- 34:42Speaker 1: they be at the game of the week? You know? Like...
- 34:46Speaker 1: And yes, Texas is featured, all these different things. But
- 34:50Speaker 1: why wouldn't you go to Tennessee and Texas? Well, you
- 34:53Speaker 1: go to Tennessee and Texas because it's the best. If
- 34:54Speaker 1: we're saying that should be the night game, that's where
- 34:56Speaker 1: game day should be. You go to Tennessee and Texas
- 34:58Speaker 1: because it's the biggest game of the week.
- 35:00Speaker 2: If you want to say the more impactful game is
- 35:02Speaker 2: LSU and A & M, that's another SEC game, but
- 35:04Speaker 2: it might be because it feels almost not like an
- 35:08Speaker 2: elimination game, but whoever loses that game, their back's against
- 35:11Speaker 2: the wall already for the college football playoff. So that's
- 35:15Speaker 2: a big game, and it's a night game and all that.
- 35:16Speaker 2: But Tennessee and Texas, the first ever regular season game
- 35:21Speaker 2: between the two UTs, with Arch Manning coming to Knoxville
- 35:25Speaker 2: wearing number 16, and Peyton Manning telling Pat McAfee that
- 35:29Speaker 2: he's going to be there on Monday night countdown last
- 35:32Speaker 2: night and all this, that's the biggest game of the week.
- 35:34Speaker 2: We're going to get into pregame show discussions and a
- 35:37Speaker 2: topic that I want to bring to the table later.
- 35:40Speaker 1: College game means you go to the biggest game of
- 35:41Speaker 1: the weekend. This is the biggest game of the weekend.
- 35:43Speaker 1: Put the SEC bias aside, which of course they have,
- 35:47Speaker 1: because they're the biggest rights holder for the SEC. But
- 35:50Speaker 1: that's where they should be, is Tennessee, Texas.
- 35:53Speaker 2: I think Fox is making a gigantic mistake by just
- 35:56Speaker 2: staying in bed with the Big Ten only. Because they
- 35:59Speaker 2: completely ignore other conferences. They completely ignore the SEC on
- 36:03Speaker 2: their broadcast. And the SEC is the NFL of college football.
- 36:08Speaker 2: We've seen it time and time again. If you're claiming
- 36:10Speaker 2: to be a national college football show, you can't ignore
- 36:14Speaker 2: the SEC completely.
- 36:16Speaker 1: I think that's a misstep by Fox.
- 36:19Speaker 2: I think the ESPN college game is making the right decision.
- 36:22Speaker 1: This is the game to go to this week. This
- 36:24Speaker 1: is the one that you can set prior to the
- 36:28Speaker 1: season and kick it off. This is expected. Going in.
- 36:33Speaker 1: Week zero, they didn't have it. Week one, ACC against SEC.
- 36:37Speaker 1: Big 10 against SEC week two. And then it's been
- 36:40Speaker 1: SEC matchups the last two weeks. I mean, the ones
- 36:45Speaker 1: that I always see that are complaining are the power,
- 36:48Speaker 1: the group of five teams. They're like, oh, I thought
- 36:50Speaker 1: this was going to be spread around. It's normally James
- 36:52Speaker 1: Madison who always gets the– it's still the largest attended
- 36:55Speaker 1: game day, by the way, is that James Madison crowd,
- 36:58Speaker 1: I think. Are you serious? Yeah, yeah.
- 37:01Speaker 2: I mean, look, I'm sure there's a sentimental part of it,
- 37:06Speaker 2: you know, but still, they picked the right game.
- 37:08Speaker 1: All right, top 25 matchups, Hutton, you ready? Yes, okay, yep.
- 37:11Speaker 2: This weekend, Texas and Tennessee, that's number one versus number 14.
- 37:15Speaker 1: You've got Ole.
- 37:17Speaker 2: Miss and Florida, another SEC, four versus 21. You've got
- 37:21Speaker 2: Iowa and Michigan. There's your Big Ten top 25 matchup.
- 37:24Speaker 2: That's 230 Central on CBS, 17 versus 18. You've got
- 37:30Speaker 2: Texas A & M LSU.
- 37:32Speaker 1: That's 630 on ABC, 23 versus 10. Here's your second
- 37:37Speaker 1: Big Ten offering, Oregon at USC. That is number 20
- 37:42Speaker 1: versus number 12. And then later at night, 645, you've
- 37:46Speaker 1: got Missouri at 19 versus Mississippi State, 24. So that's four.
- 37:50Speaker 2: And two, I think, SEC to Big Ten this week.
- 37:55Speaker 1: So really a great week for both conferences.
- 37:57Speaker 2: When you look at it, but an exceptional week for
- 37:59Speaker 2: the SEC.
- 38:00Speaker 1: Yes, absolutely. 26,000 people were present when game day stopped
- 38:05Speaker 1: at James Madison. That says the largest college game day
- 38:09Speaker 1: crowd of all time. That was 2023. Anyway, I just,
- 38:15Speaker 1: I mean, they're pointing to that saying, we're still going
- 38:18Speaker 1: to bring the crowd. Yes, but like the entertainment value,
- 38:21Speaker 1: the ratings, you know, you, Of course, they're going to
- 38:24Speaker 1: go to Lake Giffen's game against LSU, and this one
- 38:27Speaker 1: makes sense because of Manny. The guest picker. Have you
- 38:29Speaker 1: heard anything on the guest picker? I have not. I
- 38:33Speaker 1: threw out Kevin Hart as my sleeper pick. I like
- 38:35Speaker 1: that one, man. That could be the guy, but I've
- 38:38Speaker 1: not heard.
- 38:39Speaker 2: Anything else about it. Everyone always guesses Morgan Wallen. Yeah,
- 38:43Speaker 2: I don't think Morgan Wallen's done it. I feel like
- 38:45Speaker 2: he's done something on game day, like performed in Knoxville
- 38:48Speaker 2: or something, but I don't know that he's been the
- 38:50Speaker 2: celebrity guest picker. Was it Dolly last time? Dolly, I
- 38:55Speaker 2: don't know that she's picked. She's been a part of
- 38:58Speaker 2: game day in Knoxville. She walked out with Peyton Manning.
- 39:01Speaker 2: Peyton Manning escorted her out on the field for a
- 39:04Speaker 2: game at one point. I don't know that she's been
- 39:06Speaker 2: the celebrity guest picker.
- 39:08Speaker 1: Gotcha. We were talking about this. I love trying to
- 39:11Speaker 1: guess it. You're always great at that. Kevin Hart's a
- 39:13Speaker 1: good one, a great one there. Hey, 0-2 teams in
- 39:18Speaker 1: the NFL. I've got three I'm going to bring up.
- 39:21Speaker 1: And we're going to believe it or we don't believe
- 39:22Speaker 1: it for playoff contenders right now. And there's a big
- 39:26Speaker 1: matchup for one of them this week within the division.
- 39:29Speaker 1: Let's try to head here on Hutton and Withrow, presented
- 39:31Speaker 1: by Hard Rock Bet. Man, the show's flying by. Good
- 39:36Speaker 1: morning to you. Hutton and Withrow here at sportandstate.com, streaming
- 39:39Speaker 1: live on Daily Wire, YouTube at Hutton and Withrow. If
- 39:42Speaker 1: you're watching, join us in the chat. Chad's monitoring that. No,
- 39:47Speaker 1: he's not ignoring us. No, he's not looking at anything
- 39:52Speaker 1: but the chat. I'm looking at the chat right now, Hutton.
- 39:56Speaker 1: I know you were.
- 39:57Speaker 2: I'm saying you're not looking at anything but the chat.
- 39:59Speaker 2: I was going to read something from the chat. Brooke says,
- 40:02Speaker 2: many people wanted game day to go to Boise State,
- 40:04Speaker 2: Western Michigan because it's basically an elimination game for the
- 40:11Speaker 2: group of five.
- 40:12Speaker 1: Yeah. No one's talking about that game. I mean, again–
- 40:17Speaker 1: I'm not trying to ridicule the game, but if you're
- 40:21Speaker 1: going to be the entertaining show at the game of
- 40:23Speaker 1: the week and the other network is just going to
- 40:28Speaker 1: the Big Ten, go to the SEC game of the week.
- 40:32Speaker 1: That makes sense to me, doesn't it?
- 40:33Speaker 2: If you're going to criticize ESPN this week, it's for
- 40:36Speaker 2: not having Tennessee, Texas late afternoon or night at 11 a.m.
- 40:41Speaker 2: That's what I don't understand. I don't like the game
- 40:43Speaker 2: days that flow right into the game. You know, Kirk
- 40:46Speaker 2: Herbstreit's going to leave to go up to the booth
- 40:48Speaker 2: to call this game with Chris Fowler and Holly Rowe,
- 40:51Speaker 2: so he won't be there at the end of it,
- 40:53Speaker 2: so it won't be quite the same. I mean, maybe
- 40:56Speaker 2: they rush him up quickly and he does the picks,
- 40:58Speaker 2: but I don't like that.
- 41:00Speaker 1: That might be a reason to have Peyton, because Herbstreit
- 41:03Speaker 1: doesn't pick the game he's calling, and that means Peyton
- 41:06Speaker 1: wouldn't have to pick that game. Peyton's not– I just–
- 41:11Speaker 1: I've seen a clip where he was on with McAfee
- 41:13Speaker 1: before the Manning cast last night, and McAfee was.
- 41:17Speaker 2: Like, oh man, we're going to see you in Knoxville.
- 41:18Speaker 2: He's like, yeah, we'll see you in Knoxville on Saturday.
- 41:21Speaker 2: McAfee was saying to Peyton Manning, so he's going to
- 41:23Speaker 2: the game. But he's also been very transparent that he's
- 41:29Speaker 2: not going to root against, that he's rooting for Arch
- 41:31Speaker 2: in the game. So I don't know if you could
- 41:33Speaker 2: play it both ways. I'm rooting for Arch, but I
- 41:35Speaker 2: think Tennessee wins at a shootout. You know, I'm going
- 41:38Speaker 2: to pick the Vols, like, to win at 38-35 because
- 41:41Speaker 2: I want Arch to do well also. I don't think–
- 41:43Speaker 2: I shall see any way he's the celebrity guest picker
- 41:46Speaker 2: this week.
- 41:47Speaker 1: Hey, so you've got a Manning returning to Neyland wearing 16.
- 41:51Speaker 1: And then there's the number 10, Perfect 10. The name
- 41:53Speaker 1: says it all. Apply in 10 minutes. Close in 10 days.

- 42:08Speaker 1: down to you. That's right.
- 42:10Speaker 2: Date the rate, marry the house. Throw that up on
- 42:12Speaker 2: a t-shirt, whatever you need to do to remember it.
- 42:14Speaker 2: Stop juggling credit card debt. And if you're buying new construction,
- 42:17Speaker 2: ask about the builder program, builder funded rate buy downs

- 42:30Speaker 2: Perfect10mortgage. com or call 855- 789-1010. That's perfect10mortgage. com. Perfect 10 Mortgage
- 42:38Speaker 2: is an equal housing lender. Perfect 10 Mortgage is a
- 42:40Speaker 2: DBA or network funding LP. NMLS number 2297, equal housing lender.
- 42:44Speaker 2: All borrowers must qualify. This advertisement is not a promise
- 42:47Speaker 2: to make alone.
- 42:49Speaker 1: Chad, do we believe it or we don't believe it
- 42:54Speaker 1: for the NFL team? So we're going to feature three
- 42:57Speaker 1: of them here. that are 0-2 to begin the season.
- 43:00Speaker 1: It's normally a death knell. It can be. I mean,
- 43:03Speaker 1: there's a 10% chance, roughly, of making the postseason whenever
- 43:05Speaker 1: you reach this point. We have seen this happen. We've
- 43:08Speaker 1: seen Houston do it in the past, make a run
- 43:11Speaker 1: back through the division. They started, what, 0-3 that year,
- 43:15Speaker 1: I believe. They are one of these teams, 0-3. So
- 43:18Speaker 1: are the Chargers and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. We start
- 43:21Speaker 1: with the Houston Texans. 0-2 start, and they fall to
- 43:26Speaker 1: the Bills. in week one, a game that was close,
- 43:31Speaker 1: but a game where Josh Allen just took over this
- 43:34Speaker 1: game at home. And then they lose again this past week.
- 43:39Speaker 1: And the question would be, are we seeing enough from
- 43:42Speaker 1: Houston to make us think that they're going to climb
- 43:45Speaker 1: back to the AFC division title and then make a
- 43:50Speaker 1: run to possibly their first AFC championship game? Those are
- 43:54Speaker 1: the expectations. And I mean, are you believing that? I
- 43:59Speaker 1: am believing in the fact that they can win the division, yes.
- 44:02Speaker 1: I will buy the Houston Texans because of their defense,
- 44:06Speaker 1: because of the fact that they get after the quarterback.
- 44:11Speaker 1: They hit Joe Burrow ten times. I think they sacked
- 44:15Speaker 1: him four or five times in this game. Maybe once more.
- 44:21Speaker 1: They beat him up, but not enough. Their offense wasn't
- 44:24Speaker 1: doing enough to stay on the field. I know that
- 44:29Speaker 1: you've got D'Amico Ryan saying the coach speak this week about, oh,
- 44:32Speaker 1: we've just got to coach better, we've got to do
- 44:33Speaker 1: better in the game plan. Of course. But the defense
- 44:37Speaker 1: and the fact that they're in the division of the
- 44:38Speaker 1: AFC South, where you've got the Colts this week, the
- 44:42Speaker 1: Texans play the Colts, also 0-2. I mean, I like
- 44:46Speaker 1: the Texans' chances of digging themselves out of this.
- 44:49Speaker 2: I like Jacksonville in the division early on. I think
- 44:53Speaker 2: that's one thing that has shifted. My expectation through two weeks.
- 44:56Speaker 2: Maybe I'm a fool to do that, but I think
- 44:58Speaker 2: Jacksonville looks like the better team and the favorite to
- 45:01Speaker 2: win the AFC South right now. I mean, you got
- 45:04Speaker 2: three 0-2 teams in that division.
- 45:06Speaker 1: Yes. And then you got the Jags leading at 1-1.
- 45:09Speaker 1: It's a bad division.
- 45:11Speaker 2: I mean, pick your poison when it comes to that one,
- 45:13Speaker 2: but I'm leaning Jacksonville at this point.
- 45:16Speaker 1: They've got to run the football, and Houston's got to
- 45:18Speaker 1: run the football. I think the offensive line will be
- 45:22Speaker 1: able to get better at that. Lions love running the football.
- 45:27Speaker 1: David Gumry's their back. They're going to get consistent there.
- 45:31Speaker 1: Next up, the Los Angeles Chargers. This is a big surprise.
- 45:36Speaker 1: Based on their schedule, I'm saying I do not believe,
- 45:41Speaker 1: based on who they've lost to, Chad, and the fact
- 45:44Speaker 1: that this is historically, you've got Jim Harbaugh, who uses
- 45:51Speaker 1: the first month of the season to establish their punishing identity,
- 45:56Speaker 1: and he's 0-2 for the first time as a coach.
- 45:59Speaker 1: That says something here. And you've got Herbert, who's more
- 46:03Speaker 1: in love than he is playing quarterback right now. I
- 46:06Speaker 1: don't believe it. I can't believe it. And who can
- 46:09Speaker 1: blame him? That's fair. That's fair. Wow. He's an Instagram
- 46:13Speaker 1: model now. Have we seen Herbert's ceiling? I don't think
- 46:18Speaker 1: we have, but I don't know that– This is the
- 46:22Speaker 1: type of year where he's going to do that. I
- 46:26Speaker 1: don't see the same type of team that I saw
- 46:28Speaker 1: last year to begin the season. I'm out on Herbert completely.
- 46:34Speaker 1: I'm out on the Chargers completely.
- 46:36Speaker 2: I fully believe it, that they're 0-2 for a reason,
- 46:39Speaker 2: and that they're not going to be anything this year.
- 46:41Speaker 2: And I fully believe in Herbert's fiancée. So two sides
- 46:46Speaker 2: I don't believe. One side I'm a complete believer. Total
- 46:49Speaker 2: buy-in on the fiancé.
- 46:51Speaker 1: But it's who they've lost to as well. Cardinals and Raiders.
- 46:55Speaker 1: Cardinals and Raiders. This was like a set-up, like the
- 47:01Speaker 1: Titans had against the Jets to begin the season. And
- 47:03Speaker 1: now they're starting 0-2. And they're in division with the
- 47:05Speaker 1: Broncos and the Chiefs. Finally, we've talked about the Texans
- 47:11Speaker 1: and Chargers. Now Tampa Bay. Tampa Bay begins the season 0-2.
- 47:16Speaker 1: I think it's alarming because, again, they don't have the
- 47:21Speaker 1: same type of playmakers. I don't see that same style.
- 47:24Speaker 1: And they also faced some beatable opponents. I'm not believing
- 47:30Speaker 1: in Tampa Bay, despite the division. Despite the division, Chad,
- 47:33Speaker 1: I'm taking Tampa Bay to miss the playoffs now. They
- 47:36Speaker 1: were one of my playoff teams, and I don't see,
- 47:39Speaker 1: you know, they're losing to Cleveland, UTFO.
- 47:43Speaker 2: Carolina looked good against Atlanta this past weekend. Did not
- 47:50Speaker 2: look great, but scored a bunch of points against the Bears, right,
- 47:53Speaker 2: in week one.
- 47:54Speaker 1: Yes, you're right.
- 47:55Speaker 2: I think in a team we talked about, I think
- 47:58Speaker 2: the Saints are the most interesting team right now in
- 48:00Speaker 2: that division, right? Carolina is the defending champion, but I
- 48:05Speaker 2: don't believe it with the Bucs right now. I'm out
- 48:08Speaker 2: on them. But to me, the Saints are the X
- 48:10Speaker 2: factor right now in the NFC South. I still– Don't
- 48:13Speaker 2: quite know where to fall with them.
- 48:16Speaker 1: Yeah, and again, this is a job-type season for Todd Bowles.
- 48:23Speaker 1: I had him on the hot seat. Not officially on,
- 48:27Speaker 1: but you better... Playoff or pink slips is what we
- 48:30Speaker 1: called the segment earlier. This is a team that should
- 48:34Speaker 1: be climbing the ladder in the postseason. We've seen them
- 48:38Speaker 1: already reach that spot and won a game. But in
- 48:42Speaker 1: this division... This year, they should be on top, and
- 48:45Speaker 1: the 0-2 start is going to come back to be detrimental.
- 48:50Speaker 1: That's terrible for Baker Mayfield. I'm a fan of his now.
- 48:53Speaker 1: I wasn't whenever he started his career. I like where
- 48:56Speaker 1: he's taken his career. Unfortunately, he doesn't have Evans, and
- 49:00Speaker 1: I don't see the firepower with this offense anymore. I
- 49:04Speaker 1: can't believe in two. I do believe in Houston, just
- 49:07Speaker 1: based defensively, of what they should be doing as the
- 49:10Speaker 1: season wears on. So we agree on all this, right?
- 49:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I think we're in full lockstep with uh, believing
- 49:17Speaker 2: it or not on this, uh, this segment.
