Latest / Michelle Explains Anime, Poorly / Banana Fish Ep. 4- This Side of Paradise
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, it's your person thing, Michelle or whatever. Back again.
- 0:06Speaker 1: And if you're still here, congratulations you're surviving this anime.
- 0:13Speaker 1: If not, well, then I don't need to talk about
- 0:15Speaker 1: you because you can't hear me. So yeah, I mean
- 0:18Speaker 1: there's not much news, at least not in the present
- 0:20Speaker 1: time that I'm recording this, so we can pretty much
- 0:24Speaker 1: just get right into it, I guess, which is good
- 0:26Speaker 1: because the amount of notes I'm writing for this show
- 0:29Speaker 1: is averaging about twenty to twenty one pages per episode,
- 0:31Speaker 1: which is way more than it usually does. For example,
- 0:36Speaker 1: in a fun episode of Windbreaker, I was doing about
- 0:39Speaker 1: eleven pages of notes. Yeah, it's dense, so let's just
- 0:45Speaker 1: do it. So. Episode four of Banana Fish is called
- 0:49Speaker 1: this Side of Paradise, and that's taken from the title
- 0:53Speaker 1: of f Scott Fitzgerald's debut novel called That Obviously, which
- 0:58Speaker 1: apparently examined the lives and morality of care free American
- 1:03Speaker 1: youth at the dawn of the jazz Age and explores
- 1:06Speaker 1: the theme of love warped by greed instead is seeking,
- 1:10Speaker 1: which I don't actually know how that fits with this show.
- 1:14Speaker 1: I don't really think it does. I don't know if
- 1:17Speaker 1: we've discussed this before. I can't remember if I've mentioned it.
- 1:19Speaker 1: But as fun as these book titles are, because I
- 1:23Speaker 1: think they're pretty cool, and whether they work with the
- 1:26Speaker 1: books or not, I think they're good titles for the episodes,
- 1:30Speaker 1: they are just anime only. The manga doesn't even have
- 1:34Speaker 1: chapters at all. There are no chapters. It's really hard
- 1:38Speaker 1: to refer to things in the manga because I can't say,
- 1:40Speaker 1: in chapter seventeen this happened. I have to go buy
- 1:43Speaker 1: volume and say in volume five, and like the end
- 1:46Speaker 1: of volume five, this happened, which is weird. I've never
- 1:49Speaker 1: come across that before. I don't know if it was
- 1:51Speaker 1: common with older manga to just not have chapters. I
- 1:54Speaker 1: really should read some older manga and kind of compare
- 1:58Speaker 1: to see if this is something unique to a Kimi
- 2:00Speaker 1: Yoshida or if this is like a stylistic thing that
- 2:03Speaker 1: was happening in Mongo or showed you at this time.
- 2:06Speaker 1: But it's very odd. Anyway. At the end of last episode,
- 2:10Speaker 1: remember ag was going to see doctor Meredith and he
- 2:14Speaker 1: ran into Arthur instead, which is probably not good. So
- 2:19Speaker 1: we start right there in this episode. So the first
- 2:23Speaker 1: scene we are looking up like that stairwell that he
- 2:26Speaker 1: was walking up in the last episode, and we hear
- 2:29Speaker 1: Arthur say thanks for guiding us here, and we cut
- 2:33Speaker 1: to ag who is being knocked back into a chair
- 2:35Speaker 1: I think, and his hands are tied behind his back,
- 2:38Speaker 1: and Arthur says, my guy's been following you, obviously, and
- 2:43Speaker 1: we see that he is with three guys. Two of
- 2:46Speaker 1: them are guys we don't know. They're just kind of
- 2:48Speaker 1: young thug guys, I guess. And then there's also that
- 2:53Speaker 1: guy that we've met before, the guy with red hair
- 2:55Speaker 1: and glasses who wears like a lab coat, so I'm
- 2:58Speaker 1: assuming he's like probably a scientist, and he's also a
- 3:02Speaker 1: little bit older, so he kind of doesn't fit with
- 3:04Speaker 1: this crowd, but he's there. And then we see doctor
- 3:08Speaker 1: Meredith is sitting on the ground and he also is
- 3:10Speaker 1: probably tied, and one of the dudes who has like
- 3:14Speaker 1: a hoodie on is holding the woman assistant or receptionist.
- 3:18Speaker 1: She's the receptionist, guys, but they just don't ever say
- 3:21Speaker 1: that in the anime, so it's really strange. Anyway, Arthur
- 3:24Speaker 1: to Age says, what did ashe tell you? And Age's
- 3:27Speaker 1: like nothing, and Arthur scoffs, and he's like, I can't
- 3:31Speaker 1: kill you since you're a precious gift for Dino, and
- 3:34Speaker 1: he turns to the dude in the hoodie and he nods,
- 3:36Speaker 1: and the guy raises a knife to that woman's throats. Great,
- 3:40Speaker 1: and doctor Meredith, who we see has a black eye,
- 3:42Speaker 1: is like, leave her alone, and Arthur says, talk or
- 3:46Speaker 1: she dies. Agy gasps and he is clenching his teeth
- 3:50Speaker 1: and sweating, and he thinks, forgive me ash, and then
- 3:53Speaker 1: he says he said to retrieve what he left here,
- 3:56Speaker 1: and Red hair Glasses guy is like a bottle with
- 3:59Speaker 1: white powder and he like holds up his fingers and
- 4:02Speaker 1: he's like about this size. And then we see this
- 4:07Speaker 1: scene from the perspective of the other room, like through
- 4:11Speaker 1: a curtain where Griffin is sitting and doctor Meredith says,
- 4:16Speaker 1: it's on the desk, just take it them leave, and
- 4:19Speaker 1: Griffin stands.
- 4:20Speaker 2: Wait, he can stand, and then.
- 4:22Speaker 1: We cut to red hair Glasses guy holding the little
- 4:26Speaker 1: like vile of drug and looking like super relieved and
- 4:29Speaker 1: super excited, and Arthur turns to his guy and he's
- 4:33Speaker 1: like killer fuck and ag and doctor Meredith gasp and
- 4:38Speaker 1: Age's like, but I talked, and Arthur says, you I'll
- 4:42Speaker 1: take I actually really suffer watching Dino have fun with you.
- 4:46Speaker 2: Why would he watch? Ag? And I gasp?
- 4:50Speaker 1: And Arthur holds up his scarred hand and he's like,
- 4:53Speaker 1: I'm gonna crush everything that's important to him, and he
- 4:56Speaker 1: makes a fist and he says, first skip, now these
- 4:59Speaker 1: people will die too. He grabs Ag by his hair
- 5:03Speaker 1: and Ag winces and you you'll be drugged by the
- 5:06Speaker 1: old perb and sucked to the bone.
- 5:09Speaker 2: Jesus fuck dude.
- 5:11Speaker 1: AG looks terrified, rightfully so, but then he kind of
- 5:14Speaker 1: finds his resolve and he says, you're insane, and Arthur
- 5:19Speaker 1: finally lets go of his hair and kind of pushes
- 5:21Speaker 1: him back slightly, and he's like, he's made a fool
- 5:24Speaker 1: out of me for the last time. He'll pay for
- 5:26Speaker 1: it till he dies. And he points to Ag and says,
- 5:30Speaker 1: if you want to die with dignity, I suggest you
- 5:32Speaker 1: in your own life. And he kind of laughs and
- 5:34Speaker 1: he's like, I'll even let Ash watch. And then we
- 5:37Speaker 1: see a hand lower the hammer on a double action
- 5:41Speaker 1: revolver and Arthur gasps, it's shorter, thank god, and he
- 5:46Speaker 1: is looking as cool as always, and he has got
- 5:48Speaker 1: his gun to the back of Arthur's head and he says,
- 5:53Speaker 1: it's your life that's gonna end. Yeah, I guess, and
- 5:56Speaker 1: one of the guys is like Shorter, and ag is
- 5:59Speaker 1: kind of surprised, and Shorter says, your big mouth's so
- 6:02Speaker 1: loud you didn't even hear your watchmen. Go down drop them,
- 6:05Speaker 1: or I'll blow his brains out. And Arthur's two guys
- 6:08Speaker 1: like kind of curse, but then they throw down their
- 6:10Speaker 1: knives and Red hair Glasses Guy takes out his gun
- 6:13Speaker 1: and Shorter's like, forget about it, old guy, you can't
- 6:16Speaker 1: kill people. And then the curtain opens and it's Griffin
- 6:22Speaker 1: just looking as dead eyed as usual, and Red hair
- 6:26Speaker 1: Glasses Guy sees him and he freaks out and he's
- 6:29Speaker 1: like Griff and everyone's like what, and Red hair glasses
- 6:34Speaker 1: Guy continues and he's like, no way, no way, You're
- 6:36Speaker 1: supposed to be dead. And he's like waving his gun
- 6:39Speaker 1: around super dangerously.
- 6:41Speaker 2: Why are you here?
- 6:42Speaker 1: And at that the light returns to Griffin's eyes and
- 6:46Speaker 1: Griffin says you you and he reaches out for him
- 6:51Speaker 1: and he says banana fish abra and he starts to
- 6:57Speaker 1: walk towards red hair glasses guy, and red hair glasses
- 7:00Speaker 1: guy like backs away, terrified and he's like stay away,
- 7:03Speaker 1: and he aims his gun and doctor Meredith's like no,
- 7:07Speaker 1: and fucking he shoots him and the receptionist woman screams,
- 7:12Speaker 1: and Arthur takes this opportunity to knock the gun away
- 7:15Speaker 1: from Shorter, and doctor Meredith is like Griffin. And one
- 7:18Speaker 1: of the guys grabs red hair glasses Guy's gun and
- 7:21Speaker 1: he's like, give me that, and he shoots it Shorter
- 7:23Speaker 1: but I think he misses, but Shorter is like on
- 7:25Speaker 1: the ground now and Arthur's like later Shorter and the
- 7:28Speaker 1: gang starts to run off, but that guy with the
- 7:31Speaker 1: gun attempts to shoot Shorter again, and Shorter like knocks
- 7:35Speaker 1: the gun with his foot so the bullet hits the
- 7:38Speaker 1: door frame instead of him. But they're like still shooting
- 7:41Speaker 1: as they run off down the stairwell, and Shorter is like, agy,
- 7:44Speaker 1: get down, and ag slams himself on the ground because
- 7:47Speaker 1: remember his hand are still tied, and Arthur turns back
- 7:50Speaker 1: and is like tell Ash will be back, and they leave.
- 7:54Speaker 2: The Shorter is like shit.
- 7:57Speaker 1: And he stands up and he goes over to Ag
- 7:59Speaker 1: and he says you hey, and he like it's untying him,
- 8:02Speaker 1: and Ag says thanks. But him and doctor Meredith and
- 8:07Speaker 1: the receptionists are on the ground with Griffin and they're
- 8:12Speaker 1: trying to stop his bleeding because his chest is just
- 8:15Speaker 1: like gushing blood and it like does not look good,
- 8:19Speaker 1: and Shorter says, how is he? And doctor Meredith's like,
- 8:23Speaker 1: I'm doing what I can. He finally came around and
- 8:26Speaker 1: remembered something. Don't die now for Ash, and Griff really
- 8:31Speaker 1: looks like he's in pain, which makes sense. He looks bad.
- 8:36Speaker 1: Shorter's like, why Ash?
- 8:38Speaker 2: Who is he?
- 8:39Speaker 1: Doctor Meredith says Ash's older brother, and Shorter and Age
- 8:44Speaker 1: you are like what And.
- 8:45Speaker 2: Then we have the opening theme.
- 8:46Speaker 1: Yes, I made it through that section. I have no
- 8:49Speaker 1: idea how I just stopped so many times because I
- 8:52Speaker 1: was laughing from embarrassment. You have no idea, guys, no idea.
- 8:58Speaker 1: Back from my confession and maybe a break. Shorter and
- 9:02Speaker 1: Ag are waiting out in the hall as doctor Meredith
- 9:05Speaker 1: and like another doctor are I guess operating on Griffin.
- 9:09Speaker 1: They're like taking out the bulletin stuff and Ag says,
- 9:12Speaker 1: I wonder if he'll be okay, and Shorter's like, we
- 9:15Speaker 1: just have to leave it to the doctor. I'm glad
- 9:17Speaker 1: you're safe. AG says, but they took that bottle. I
- 9:21Speaker 1: was supposed to give it to you. And Shorter's like,
- 9:24Speaker 1: must have been really important, considering how up said they were.
- 9:27Speaker 1: AG says, how'd you find me? You weren't at chang
- 9:31Speaker 1: Dai and Shorter's like, no, no, I was there, and
- 9:34Speaker 1: She's like where. Shorter then takes out a hat and
- 9:37Speaker 1: he puts on a fake mustache and he's like here
- 9:39Speaker 1: and he looks like the dude from the last episode
- 9:43Speaker 1: who AG was talking to that looked really stereotypical. And
- 9:46Speaker 1: Age's like, oh, and Shorter says, I couldn't tell you
- 9:50Speaker 1: because you were being followed, So that's good, I guess.
- 9:53Speaker 2: Anyway.
- 9:54Speaker 1: We see the jail exterior and we hear a voice
- 9:57Speaker 1: say give me a break. Max, You're the one I
- 9:59Speaker 1: wanted be in the same cell as him. And we
- 10:02Speaker 1: see Ash eating quietly in the mess hall whatever, and
- 10:08Speaker 1: Max is over to the side talking to a guard
- 10:11Speaker 1: and Max says, I know, I'm sorry, man, and he
- 10:14Speaker 1: hands the guard some cash and the guard's like fine,
- 10:17Speaker 1: there are a ton of guys who want to bump
- 10:19Speaker 1: with him anyway. Fuck Max looks kind of conflicted for
- 10:23Speaker 1: a second and then he smiles, fuck you Max, and
- 10:26Speaker 1: he says thanks. Then we cut to Ash in his
- 10:30Speaker 1: cell reading Max's notes and he hears Max arrive and
- 10:34Speaker 1: he closes the notebook and Max is like, back, already,
- 10:38Speaker 1: go on a walk or something, and Ash says, why
- 10:41Speaker 1: I'll still be in a cage. So Max says, you
- 10:44Speaker 1: got a point, and he starts to grab his stuff
- 10:47Speaker 1: and he lifts his bag and he's like later, good
- 10:49Speaker 1: luck to you, and then he walks out of the cell.
- 10:52Speaker 1: Then we see Max being let into a new cell
- 10:54Speaker 1: and the guards like here you go, and Max says
- 10:57Speaker 1: all to myself, perfect and the guard's like you get it, Nubian,
- 11:01Speaker 1: no time, and Max says, I'll be out here before then.
- 11:04Speaker 1: My lawyer's coming tomorrow, and he's like taking stuff out
- 11:07Speaker 1: of the bag. I was gonna write an exposa on prisons,
- 11:09Speaker 1: but I guess I want have time. Then he realizes
- 11:12Speaker 1: something and he's like my notebook and the guard says
- 11:15Speaker 1: forgot something and Max is like, nats, it's nothing. Then
- 11:20Speaker 1: we cut back to Ash reading the notebook and we
- 11:23Speaker 1: get a close up shot, which I will read for
- 11:25Speaker 1: you now. Okay, So it says Survey of the Daily
- 11:28Speaker 1: Lives of Returning Veterans by John R. Howard from University
- 11:33Speaker 1: of Eastern California, New York, Saturday, September. I can't read
- 11:38Speaker 1: the rest of that. In interviewing our subjects, the story
- 11:42Speaker 1: of one particular soldier stood out. He stated that his
- 11:46Speaker 1: unit moved their camp every day and every night, one soldier, Thomas,
- 11:51Speaker 1: would become prone to sudden, violent outbursts. He stated that Thomas,
- 11:55Speaker 1: who is described as a cheerful, light hearted soldier, changed
- 11:59Speaker 1: suddenly one day. His eyes became vacant, and he was
- 12:02Speaker 1: often absent minded. In the end, he was killed in battle.
- 12:06Speaker 1: Although a tragic tale, the interesting fact is that these
- 12:10Speaker 1: kind of incidents were not uncommon. Although there was no
- 12:14Speaker 1: official record, this kind of sudden behavioral change was witnessed
- 12:18Speaker 1: by many units below. I would like to describe a
- 12:21Speaker 1: few of these incidents. And this was all like typed
- 12:24Speaker 1: and Max had just kind of stuck it in this journal.
- 12:27Speaker 1: So then in his hand like in his handwriting, it
- 12:30Speaker 1: says similar incidents commonalities. They all use the phrase banana fish.
- 12:35Speaker 1: The something in their behavior can be I can't read
- 12:38Speaker 1: this because there's a subtitle on it can be pinpointed
- 12:40Speaker 1: to a certain day familiar or something drug use, something
- 12:46Speaker 1: seems to be a dealer only effects. And then Angelus
- 12:50Speaker 1: like from Los Angeles. And then there's like an arrow
- 12:53Speaker 1: and it says unknown if Banana Fish is an individual
- 12:55Speaker 1: or organization believed to be tied known Yeah traps, Yeah,
- 13:00Speaker 1: we already heard that, So now you know what was
- 13:03Speaker 1: in the part of the journal that Ash was reading. Anyway,
- 13:07Speaker 1: he's reading the notebook and he hears someone say what's
- 13:11Speaker 1: with the serious face? Ash puts down the book and
- 13:15Speaker 1: he looks over at the door and there's some really
- 13:18Speaker 1: big dude that's being let into the cell and Ash says,
- 13:21Speaker 1: who are you? And the guy, who is really big again,
- 13:25Speaker 1: very muscular, has long brown kind of like almost greasy
- 13:29Speaker 1: looking hair and scraggly facial hair, says, I your new
- 13:32Speaker 1: cell mate, little princess. Great, And then we cut to
- 13:36Speaker 1: Max in the cafeteria and there's not a lot of
- 13:38Speaker 1: people there. There's people, but it's pretty sparse, I guess.
- 13:41Speaker 1: And then Max says to this guy who's reading a
- 13:44Speaker 1: paper who we barely see in the anime, but I'm
- 13:47Speaker 1: pretty sure is Max's friend? Where is everyone? And he
- 13:51Speaker 1: sits down and the dude'es like, off to watch the show,
- 13:54Speaker 1: I guess, and Max says the show and the dudes
- 13:58Speaker 1: like the mur Bull is after the wild links and
- 14:02Speaker 1: Max is like, what his new cell mate is?
- 14:05Speaker 2: Bull?
- 14:06Speaker 1: And the dude's like, who cares, You're the one who
- 14:08Speaker 1: has to change cells. Max backs off because he was
- 14:12Speaker 1: kind of leaning over the table and he looks concerned,
- 14:15Speaker 1: which she should be, and the dude's like, let him
- 14:19Speaker 1: be what that's terrible? Max thinks, that's right. He hates me.
- 14:27Speaker 1: I should just leave him alone. He's gonna only hates
- 14:29Speaker 1: you more, dude. He picks up his drink with like
- 14:32Speaker 1: a little cup of water and he's about to drink
- 14:35Speaker 1: it and then he freezes and he thinks, I can't
- 14:38Speaker 1: he Scriff's little brother, and then out loud, he goes,
- 14:41Speaker 1: damn it and he hits the table when he says,
- 14:45Speaker 1: that's startling the dude, and he stands up and takes off,
- 14:48Speaker 1: and the dude's like, hey, where are you going? Back
- 14:50Speaker 1: at the cell. Bull takes off his shirt because of
- 14:54Speaker 1: course he does, and says, you gave it up. To
- 14:58Speaker 1: Garby without a fight. Let's have some fun, all me, gentle.
- 15:02Speaker 1: He is standing over Ash, who is sitting on the
- 15:05Speaker 1: bottom bunk and Ash says, never, I just wanted to
- 15:09Speaker 1: go to the infirmary that time. And there are a
- 15:11Speaker 1: bunch of guys like standing outside of the cell and watching,
- 15:14Speaker 1: and it's like, fucking get lives, guys, this is not
- 15:17Speaker 1: an okay thing to do with your time. And they're
- 15:21Speaker 1: like kind of talking, and one guy says, ooh, cutie's
- 15:24Speaker 1: acting tough, and another guy's like, don't worry, Bull'll send
- 15:28Speaker 1: you to the infirmary, and Bull kind of laughs it
- 15:31Speaker 1: was a good joke. Ash says, you don't want to
- 15:34Speaker 1: get me mad, old guy, and he stands up and
- 15:37Speaker 1: kind of scratches his head and he's like, I'm used
- 15:39Speaker 1: to dealing with guys like you. We should probably talk
- 15:43Speaker 1: about that, but he can wait. Bull's like, is that
- 15:47Speaker 1: so then deal with me, honey, and Ash says fine.
- 15:53Speaker 1: Bull chuckles, and Ash is like, but you gotta take
- 15:57Speaker 1: good care of me, okay, And he gives him that
- 16:00Speaker 1: look from episode two, and some of the guys like
- 16:06Speaker 1: cheer a little bit and whistle from outside, and Bull
- 16:10Speaker 1: laughs and then we cut to Max, who is out
- 16:14Speaker 1: of breath and he had been like running through like
- 16:16Speaker 1: the main hall area, and he looks up and sees
- 16:20Speaker 1: the commotion in front of the cell and he's like,
- 16:22Speaker 1: damn it. Then we cut back to Ash and Bull,
- 16:25Speaker 1: and Bull walks over to Ash and he's like, you
- 16:28Speaker 1: know how to survive here, don't you? Yeah? I think, yeah,
- 16:35Speaker 1: apparently that is the case. And he puts his hand
- 16:39Speaker 1: on Ash's face and he is closing in to kiss him,
- 16:44Speaker 1: and at that Ash grabs a sheet from the top
- 16:46Speaker 1: bunk and he covers Bull like completely with it, and
- 16:50Speaker 1: Bull's head is like totally covered, so we can't see
- 16:52Speaker 1: what's going on. And Ash grabs him and slams him
- 16:54Speaker 1: into the mirror and you know, breaking it, and then
- 16:58Speaker 1: he like jumps on the bar and then jumps onto Bull,
- 17:02Speaker 1: kind of sort of kicking him to the ground. And
- 17:06Speaker 1: Max is finally approaching and he's like, out of my way,
- 17:09Speaker 1: move and he breaks through the crowd and he's like,
- 17:12Speaker 1: stop Bull, He's just a kid, and he realizes what's happening.
- 17:16Speaker 1: He sees that Ash is strangling Bull with the sheets
- 17:19Speaker 1: that's still over a Bull's head. I don't know if
- 17:22Speaker 1: I should cheer for possible murder but yeah.
- 17:25Speaker 2: Ash is like, I.
- 17:26Speaker 1: Told you, I'm used to this.
- 17:29Speaker 2: Fuck.
- 17:30Speaker 1: We really need to talk about this, and Max is like,
- 17:34Speaker 1: don't kill him. And two guards like arrive at the
- 17:37Speaker 1: back of this massive group of onlookers and one of
- 17:41Speaker 1: them says what's going on and the other one's like,
- 17:43Speaker 1: out of the way, and Max continues, don't throw your
- 17:46Speaker 1: life away over that trash. Ash looks casually at Bull,
- 17:50Speaker 1: who is struggling to breathe and his head is bleeding too,
- 17:54Speaker 1: and he smiles and he just drops him. The other
- 17:59Speaker 1: guys are sad that it's over, I guess, and Ash
- 18:03Speaker 1: starts to leave this cel and he says I don't
- 18:06Speaker 1: need your help, and Max is like, hey, wait up.
- 18:10Speaker 2: Ash.
- 18:11Speaker 1: Ash stops and turns back and he's like, what do
- 18:13Speaker 1: you want. Max says, I'm just impressed. Now they'll acknowledge
- 18:17Speaker 1: you is a full fledged male, and Ash's like, whatever,
- 18:21Speaker 1: I don't give a fuck with the scum here think
- 18:23Speaker 1: of me, and he starts to walk off again, and
- 18:25Speaker 1: Max is like he got a point. Then we see
- 18:28Speaker 1: this from above. Garvey and his crew are watching and
- 18:32Speaker 1: they're saying something to each other but we can't hear
- 18:34Speaker 1: what it is, but it's probably not good. We cut
- 18:37Speaker 1: back to Age, who is looking around a corner in
- 18:40Speaker 1: Chinatown and he sees sho Nichi, who is also looking around,
- 18:45Speaker 1: and he's like ebaysan and Shuni runs over and grabs
- 18:49Speaker 1: him and is like, where have you been? You've been
- 18:51Speaker 1: gone an entire day. I was scared to death. I
- 18:53Speaker 1: thought they'd kidnap you again. And he's like shaking Ag
- 18:56Speaker 1: and Agy's like, I'm sorry, and Shunici sighs and he's like,
- 19:01Speaker 1: I'm just glad you're safe.
- 19:02Speaker 2: What happened?
- 19:03Speaker 1: Then we cut to Griffin in the hospital bed and
- 19:06Speaker 1: Shunichi and Ag and Shorter are there and Snici says
- 19:10Speaker 1: who is he? And AG's like Ash's older brother, and
- 19:14Speaker 1: She's like what, and Ag continues, Arthur's ben shot him,
- 19:18Speaker 1: but we can't take him to a hospital or the
- 19:20Speaker 1: syndicate will find him. Shunichi jumps and he's like syndicate, Oh,
- 19:24Speaker 1: I guess he didn't know yet, And Ag says, we
- 19:28Speaker 1: found out who Banana fish is that thing that Charlie
- 19:31Speaker 1: told us about, And Shorter says, tell him what you
- 19:34Speaker 1: told us? Doc. Doctor Martha's like, okay, and he shows
- 19:38Speaker 1: them a small container of white powder. Oh, and he
- 19:41Speaker 1: says I kept some aside and Shunici's like, what is that?
- 19:45Speaker 1: And AG says it's what the man that was killed
- 19:48Speaker 1: handed to ash. Doctor Martha says, so far, I figured
- 19:52Speaker 1: out it's some kind of hallucinogen like lsd On's like,
- 19:56Speaker 1: but and doctor Meredith continues, Eliste's effects only last day.
- 20:00Speaker 1: It could actually be up to twelve guys. But this
- 20:02Speaker 1: lasted twenty four hours, maybe even longer, and she Negi's like,
- 20:07Speaker 1: maybe Doctor Meredith says, that's as long as we could
- 20:11Speaker 1: do the experiment. For all the rats died. They became
- 20:14Speaker 1: violent and they started to hurt themselves. In other words,
- 20:17Speaker 1: they committed suicide. Oh, this is probably not good. Shoonichi
- 20:21Speaker 1: says suicide, and Age's like, remember what Charlie said about
- 20:25Speaker 1: those strange suicide cases. Shunichi gasps, and doctor Meredith says,
- 20:31Speaker 1: it's probably something that guy created. And AG's like, there
- 20:35Speaker 1: was a man with glasses with Arthur's men, and we
- 20:37Speaker 1: see a flashback from this episode. Come on, guys, gotta
- 20:42Speaker 1: do some animation here. Can't just put in flashbacks from
- 20:44Speaker 1: the same episode and AG continues, Ash's brother called him
- 20:49Speaker 1: banana fish back to jail.
- 20:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:52Speaker 1: We hear Ash say out, let go of me, and
- 20:56Speaker 1: Max says, just come with me, and we just see
- 20:59Speaker 1: their feet at this, and Max says, ouch, don't claw me.
- 21:04Speaker 1: And Max is pulling Ash by the arm and he says,
- 21:08Speaker 1: I'm taking you to see my lawyer friend. Ash at
- 21:10Speaker 1: this pulls away and he's like, no thanks, and he
- 21:12Speaker 1: turns around. I don't need your help. And Max is like,
- 21:15Speaker 1: why don't you ask for bail? You'll be killed if
- 21:18Speaker 1: you stay here. That's not really how it works. And
- 21:21Speaker 1: Ash is like, it's none of your business. And then
- 21:23Speaker 1: he kind of turns back around and he's like or
- 21:25Speaker 1: is it your guilt talking? Max is like what And
- 21:30Speaker 1: then we hear a voice say Max, hey, Max, and
- 21:33Speaker 1: Max is like huh and we see that he is
- 21:36Speaker 1: at the table with his lawyer, and his lawyer's like,
- 21:39Speaker 1: are you listening and Max says, yeah, I'm sorry George
- 21:42Speaker 1: that punk and George is like, you got enough on
- 21:45Speaker 1: your hands and Max says, was it no good? And
- 21:49Speaker 1: George is like the bail's no problem, You'll be out soon.
- 21:53Speaker 1: But Michael, drop the suit. You can't win and Max says,
- 21:58Speaker 1: he's my son and are just like yours and Jessica's.
- 22:02Speaker 1: Max looks away and George continues getting custody is difficult
- 22:08Speaker 1: as it is. Mothers always have the advantage, and Jessica
- 22:11Speaker 1: makes a good living. Plus Max is in jail, and
- 22:14Speaker 1: Max puts his finger on his temples and he says,
- 22:17Speaker 1: so there's no way, And George is like, not if
- 22:20Speaker 1: you don't want to hurt Michael any further, I'm sorry,
- 22:24Speaker 1: and Max says, nah, you did what you could. And
- 22:28Speaker 1: George is like, so how's that boy. If he doesn't
- 22:31Speaker 1: want out, there's nothing I can do, and Max says,
- 22:33Speaker 1: I'll get him to reconsider. Okay, let's stop there for
- 22:36Speaker 1: just a second, because I do want to talk about
- 22:38Speaker 1: this about bail. You either get bail or you don't
- 22:41Speaker 1: get bail. You don't decide if you're going to apply
- 22:45Speaker 1: for bail or something. So this is a little bit
- 22:48Speaker 1: weird and a little bit doesn't really work with the
- 22:50Speaker 1: criminal justice system in the US, but hey, you know,
- 22:54Speaker 1: sometimes that happens when you are trying to understand law
- 22:58Speaker 1: from a different country. I will say, though, that it
- 23:02Speaker 1: could make sense. It could be that Max didn't originally
- 23:05Speaker 1: get bail because he punched a cop and maybe they
- 23:08Speaker 1: were angry at him, or the bail was too high,
- 23:10Speaker 1: because you can petition for a lower bail or bail
- 23:16Speaker 1: in general in the state of New York. So it's
- 23:18Speaker 1: not like this couldn't work. It could also be he
- 23:21Speaker 1: didn't pay it for some reason. He was just like,
- 23:23Speaker 1: I don't want to fucking do it, because he's like
- 23:25Speaker 1: a mess. He's apparently getting divorced and in a custody
- 23:29Speaker 1: battle over his son. So maybe that kind of explains
- 23:32Speaker 1: the anger issues we've been seeing him have. I don't know.
- 23:36Speaker 1: Obviously things are not going well in his life, but
- 23:38Speaker 1: what I'm trying to say is, yeah, that's not how
- 23:41Speaker 1: bail works. So anyway, moving along, we are in the
- 23:46Speaker 1: yard and when we hear a voice say hey, Ash,
- 23:50Speaker 1: where's ash Lynx? And Ash is resting casually on like
- 23:54Speaker 1: a baseball court, like on the ground of the baseball court,
- 23:57Speaker 1: with his kind of back slightly up against a chain
- 24:00Speaker 1: link fence. I mean, it doesn't look uncomfortable. I was
- 24:03Speaker 1: just like, okay, and his eyes are closed like he's resting,
- 24:09Speaker 1: and this guy says hey, and Ash opens his eyes
- 24:12Speaker 1: and the guy's like, Max wants you, and Ash says
- 24:15Speaker 1: that old man has a visitor, and then he kind
- 24:18Speaker 1: of pauses and he smiles and he says, whe're at now.
- 24:24Speaker 1: In the manga, this looked like a genuine smile to me.
- 24:27Speaker 1: In the anime, it looked slightly devious. So I'm reading
- 24:30Speaker 1: one of them wrong or there was a change, but
- 24:33Speaker 1: just wanted to point that out. And then we go
- 24:35Speaker 1: back to Chinatown. Yay Ag and Shunichi are sitting at
- 24:39Speaker 1: a table in a restaurant and Ag says, but I'm
- 24:42Speaker 1: not going back to Japan. How can you say that now?
- 24:45Speaker 1: And Shannici's like, because of what's happening. The syndicate knows
- 24:49Speaker 1: you're clothes with Ash. Who knows when they'll come for you?
- 24:52Speaker 1: I mean probably soon. Ag sighs and he sits back
- 24:56Speaker 1: in his chair and he's like, I'm not scared, and
- 24:59Speaker 1: Shunichi's like, that's not what I'm talking about.
- 25:01Speaker 2: This is real.
- 25:03Speaker 1: This is a real mafia syndicate. If something happens to you,
- 25:07Speaker 1: what am I supposed to say to your parents? It
- 25:08Speaker 1: was hard enough persuading them to let you come. And
- 25:12Speaker 1: Ag says, I understand what you're saying, and I'm grateful
- 25:16Speaker 1: that you brought me here. I mean, I really needed it,
- 25:19Speaker 1: but I.
- 25:20Speaker 2: Won't go home.
- 25:21Speaker 1: Shoonichi is shocked, and Ag slams his fists on the
- 25:24Speaker 1: table and he's like, I can't. And then Shoonichi also
- 25:28Speaker 1: slams his fist on the table and he's like, no,
- 25:30Speaker 1: you're coming home with me. And then a voice says
- 25:33Speaker 1: Agi eBay and they look up and it is a woman.
- 25:36Speaker 1: It's the woman from shang Dai whose name is naughty,
- 25:39Speaker 1: but apparently she's not gonna get a name, so I'm
- 25:41Speaker 1: telling you. She nods to them and they go over
- 25:44Speaker 1: to her. They walk into a room where doctor Meredith
- 25:47Speaker 1: is standing over Griffin and Shorter is also there, and
- 25:50Speaker 1: doctor Meredith sits and he says time of death twelve
- 25:55Speaker 1: thirty two.
- 25:57Speaker 2: I'm sorry no.
- 25:59Speaker 1: Ag acts up against the wall and he says, no,
- 26:04Speaker 1: what do I tell Ash? And Shinci says, let's tell Charlie.
- 26:09Speaker 1: This isn't a matter for us amateurs. Shorter's like, I'm
- 26:13Speaker 1: with him on this. You're no match for them. Agi
- 26:16Speaker 1: looks sadly at dead Griffin and he repeats, what do
- 26:20Speaker 1: I tell Ash? And Ghinci says, let's not tell him yet.
- 26:25Speaker 1: He won't be able to stake calm goals. These men
- 26:27Speaker 1: could take advantage and get to him, and he she's like,
- 26:30Speaker 1: but we'll have to tell him eventually. First skip now
- 26:33Speaker 1: is brother and Shi's like, I'm gonna call Charlie and
- 26:36Speaker 1: he walks out of the room, and when he's out
- 26:39Speaker 1: of sight of everyone, he's like shit and he slams
- 26:42Speaker 1: his fist against the wall, killing people left and right. America,
- 26:47Speaker 1: Land of the Free, the hell it is. Next we
- 26:50Speaker 1: see Ash opening a door and walking into a dark room,
- 26:53Speaker 1: and then behind him we see that there is a
- 26:56Speaker 1: piece of wood, like a long stick of wood of
- 27:00Speaker 1: some sort, kind of hovering behind him, and someone brings
- 27:04Speaker 1: it down at him, but he ducks out of the
- 27:07Speaker 1: way and they hit a table instead, and we see
- 27:09Speaker 1: that it's Garvey and his two friends again, and Garvey's like, hey, honey,
- 27:17Speaker 1: it's too bad, but it seems like your treasure's in
- 27:19Speaker 1: the boss's hands.
- 27:20Speaker 2: Now.
- 27:21Speaker 1: Ash gulps and he says, then.
- 27:24Speaker 2: Leave me alone.
- 27:25Speaker 1: I wonder if he knew this whole time that they
- 27:28Speaker 1: were part of the mafia. Huh. And Garvey says, it's
- 27:32Speaker 1: not that easy. And he's slapping this big wood improvised
- 27:36Speaker 1: bat against his hands, like you know how that works,
- 27:42Speaker 1: and he continues Boss's orders or to thoroughly punish the trader.
- 27:46Speaker 1: We cut to Max, who is on the phone as
- 27:49Speaker 1: he is when all bad things happen, and he says,
- 27:52Speaker 1: what did you just say? And Charlie over the phone says,
- 27:55Speaker 1: Griffin Callan Raes is dead. Don't tell Ash yet. Captain's
- 27:59Speaker 1: trying to get him out of there so we can't
- 28:01Speaker 1: have him breaking out. Max is like yeah, got it, bye,
- 28:06Speaker 1: and Charlie's like, hey, wait, wait, but Max hangs up
- 28:09Speaker 1: the phone and he just says Griffin. Back to Ash,
- 28:13Speaker 1: who was getting the shit kicked out of him, and
- 28:15Speaker 1: he is on the ground like curled up in pain,
- 28:18Speaker 1: and Garvey says, I hear you were the Boss's special pet.
- 28:24Speaker 1: Do we need to stop there and say that that's
- 28:26Speaker 1: probably not a good thing for Ash anyway? He continues,
- 28:32Speaker 1: why did.
- 28:33Speaker 2: You turn on him?
- 28:34Speaker 1: You could have had a good life, Ash like half
- 28:37Speaker 1: laughs and he's like, don't make me laugh. What's so
- 28:40Speaker 1: fun about smuggling drugs and pimping horse? Yeah? At that,
- 28:43Speaker 1: Garby kicks him again and he writhes in pain, and
- 28:47Speaker 1: he is also struggling for breath and like coughing, and
- 28:49Speaker 1: Garvey says, still got a big mouth, hunh, And we
- 28:52Speaker 1: cut to that dude that's Max's friend who's in the
- 28:56Speaker 1: yard and he's reading a paper and we hear Max
- 28:59Speaker 1: saying Ash, Ash, and the guy's like, I thought you
- 29:03Speaker 1: two went to the workshop. Max is like what the
- 29:06Speaker 1: guy says, I thought you were together, and Max gasps
- 29:13Speaker 1: back to Ash, who is being held up against the
- 29:15Speaker 1: wall by Garvey's forearm like against his neck, like crushing
- 29:20Speaker 1: his fucking trachea ouch, and Garby chuckles and he's like,
- 29:24Speaker 1: let's have some fun, baby, and he starts to unzip
- 29:28Speaker 1: his jumpsuit great and pushes Ash harder against the wall.
- 29:36Speaker 1: He continues just like last time, and he licks his lips,
- 29:40Speaker 1: which I don't really appreciate, and then we hear like
- 29:43Speaker 1: a metal like sound, and Garby looks over and Ash
- 29:46Speaker 1: has that fork to his neck and his crew gasps
- 29:50Speaker 1: because forks are really scary or something, and Ash, who
- 29:53Speaker 1: is struggling to get the words out, says, I told
- 29:56Speaker 1: you it was just that once. Gy looks worried and
- 30:01Speaker 1: he loosens his hold a bit and Ash says, you
- 30:04Speaker 1: strangling me or me stabbing you in the throat, which
- 30:07Speaker 1: will be quicker. And one of the guys is like,
- 30:09Speaker 1: you punk, and they start to close in and Ash says,
- 30:12Speaker 1: don't move where your buddy dies. Garvey sets Ash down,
- 30:16Speaker 1: thank God, and Ash says, tell Dino to get me
- 30:20Speaker 1: out of here, or I'm telling the cops everything, and
- 30:23Speaker 1: Garvey's like, oh okay. And at this Max busts in
- 30:29Speaker 1: too late and says, Ash, don't cause any more problems,
- 30:34Speaker 1: feel me, dude, and he runs over and he's like
- 30:37Speaker 1: Griffin is and this distraction allows Garby to try to
- 30:40Speaker 1: punch Ash, but Ash dodges and head butts him, and
- 30:43Speaker 1: Garby like screams yeah, and he falls to the ground
- 30:47Speaker 1: and he's like rioting in pain because I guess he's
- 30:49Speaker 1: never been headbutted before by a kid, and Ash like
- 30:52Speaker 1: kicks him aside and flips the fork around in his
- 30:54Speaker 1: hand and says, you pig, and he fucking stabs him
- 30:58Speaker 1: in the crotch with the fork, and Garvey screams and
- 31:03Speaker 1: Max like looks away in shock, and Garvey's buddies carry
- 31:09Speaker 1: him away, and when they're gone, Max says, are you okay,
- 31:14Speaker 1: and Ashes like what did you just say? And Max
- 31:17Speaker 1: says what and Ashes like what about Griffin? And Max?
- 31:22Speaker 1: Who has made a mistake. It's like, I uh nothing.
- 31:27Speaker 1: Ash stands and he's like, what happened? Say something?
- 31:31Speaker 2: Answer me?
- 31:32Speaker 1: Max says well uh, and Ashes like.
- 31:36Speaker 2: Say it, Max, spit it out?
- 31:38Speaker 1: Or are you betraying me like you did to my
- 31:40Speaker 1: brother Geez. Max puts his hand on his mouth and
- 31:46Speaker 1: he takes a breath and says, and you just stay calm.
- 31:50Speaker 1: Griffin is dead. Ash stands motionless for a second, and
- 31:56Speaker 1: we cut to the bloody fork on the floor, which
- 31:58Speaker 1: is pretty nice, and Ash says another seizure and Max
- 32:04Speaker 1: says no, he was shot by one of Goldzine's men.
- 32:09Speaker 1: Ash is just kind of staring at the ground, possibly
- 32:11Speaker 1: that fork, and Max continues, I don't know what to say.
- 32:16Speaker 1: I'm gonna lost two. Ash just kind of walks past him,
- 32:21Speaker 1: and Max is like, where are you going. He put
- 32:23Speaker 1: his hand on his shoulder and says, you're not thinking
- 32:26Speaker 1: about breaking out? Don't You'll just get yourself shot. Ash
- 32:30Speaker 1: just like fucking straight up beneath him in the chest
- 32:32Speaker 1: and is like, leave me alone. Keep following me around
- 32:35Speaker 1: and I really will kill you next time. Max doubles
- 32:38Speaker 1: over in pain and he's like, after all I've done
- 32:42Speaker 1: for you, trying to be mister nice guy, kill me
- 32:45Speaker 1: if you can, and he like, maybe lunges at Ash
- 32:48Speaker 1: and we cut to a new scene. But I just
- 32:50Speaker 1: wanted to talk about that because it pissed me the
- 32:52Speaker 1: fuck off.
- 32:53Speaker 2: Max, Max, all you've done for him? What have you
- 32:58Speaker 2: done for him?
- 32:59Speaker 1: You have never been in time to save him. There's
- 33:03Speaker 1: been three instances where Ash has had to get himself
- 33:08Speaker 1: out of a situation that was really bad and he
- 33:12Speaker 1: showed up like super lates and he just fucking strangled him.
- 33:16Speaker 1: In the last episode, what do you mean, mister nice guy?
- 33:19Speaker 2: What the fuck is your problem? Sorry?
- 33:23Speaker 1: Really fucking pissed me off. Anyway, We cut to the
- 33:26Speaker 1: police station and Charlie is sitting at his computer doing
- 33:30Speaker 1: computer things, and we hear Jenkins say, Charlie, do you
- 33:34Speaker 1: have Max's lawyer's number? And Charlie's like, I know his
- 33:37Speaker 1: office number?
- 33:38Speaker 2: Why?
- 33:38Speaker 1: And he hands Jenkins a business card and Jenkins hands
- 33:42Speaker 1: him like a bunch of papers and Charlie's like a
- 33:45Speaker 1: special bail permit for Ash links and Jenkins picks up
- 33:49Speaker 1: the phone and starts dialing that number, and he's like,
- 33:51Speaker 1: I finally got it, and Charlie is reading the piece
- 33:55Speaker 1: of paper and he's like an exception has been made
- 33:57Speaker 1: for this individual to be released on bails by Donald B. Taylor,
- 34:01Speaker 1: the state judge, and Jenkins says he only made it
- 34:05Speaker 1: through high school because taught him algebra, and then into
- 34:08Speaker 1: the phone, he's like, oh, hello, mister Scott, please, and
- 34:11Speaker 1: Charlie's like a shady deal, huh. Then we cut back
- 34:15Speaker 1: to Max punching Ash in the face and he is
- 34:18Speaker 1: trying to catch his breath, but Ash punches him in
- 34:21Speaker 1: the face, but Ash is really shocked to see that.
- 34:23Speaker 1: He doesn't go down or move it all, and Max,
- 34:25Speaker 1: with Ash's fist still in his face, says, I served
- 34:28Speaker 1: in the Navy. Don't think I can't hurt you, and
- 34:30Speaker 1: he punches Ash really hard. Ash falls over and kind
- 34:34Speaker 1: of lands on a table and Max is on the ground,
- 34:38Speaker 1: and at this point they're just kind of both trying
- 34:40Speaker 1: to catch their breath and Max says, I told you
- 34:44Speaker 1: to calm down, dumb ass, and Ashes like I was
- 34:47Speaker 1: already beat up by those assholes. You couldn't go a
- 34:50Speaker 1: little easier on me. Max says, tremon. If I could,
- 34:54Speaker 1: I wouldn't have punched you in the first place, and
- 34:56Speaker 1: Ash says, damn old man. Max is like, damn punk.
- 35:01Speaker 1: And then that dude from before walks through the door
- 35:03Speaker 1: and he's like, hey, Max, you here, and he sees
- 35:06Speaker 1: them and he's like, what the hell are you two doing?
- 35:09Speaker 2: Now?
- 35:09Speaker 1: It's night and Ash is laying on the top bunk
- 35:13Speaker 1: like all bandaged duck and he looks over and he
- 35:15Speaker 1: sees Max with some alcohol because I guess they're in
- 35:17Speaker 1: the same cell again or something, and Max says, you awake.
- 35:22Speaker 1: I smuggled some special bourbon from the guards.
- 35:25Speaker 2: Have some.
- 35:26Speaker 1: They're friends now, and Ash is like nah. Max says fine,
- 35:31Speaker 1: I'll drink it myself, and he takes a shot. I've
- 35:33Speaker 1: got to write to mourn. It doesn't matter how you
- 35:36Speaker 1: see it. Griff and I were buds, and we get
- 35:38Speaker 1: some scenes of like war in Iraq and stuff now
- 35:41Speaker 1: and he continues in that nauseating city of sand friend
- 35:44Speaker 1: or foe all file Gryffin couldn't bear it. I guess
- 35:48Speaker 1: he relied on drugs to get through. He has his
- 35:51Speaker 1: weakness to blame for it. But any sane human would
- 35:54Speaker 1: do the same. He pours another shot and continues, I'll
- 35:58Speaker 1: never forgive anyone who tries to profit out of other
- 36:00Speaker 1: people's weaknesses. Banana Fish my ass, and he drinks. Max
- 36:06Speaker 1: kind of looks back, and Ash has gotten down off
- 36:08Speaker 1: the bed and he still is holding that fork, and
- 36:13Speaker 1: Max says, do whatever you want. I'm too tired to
- 36:16Speaker 1: go on anyways. When I heard he died, I lost
- 36:20Speaker 1: all strength. I wish I could have seen him one
- 36:22Speaker 1: last time, even if he didn't recognize me. He takes
- 36:25Speaker 1: another shot. Ash says Stephen Thompson. Before he died, he
- 36:31Speaker 1: said to go meet Banana Fish. Max's eyes widen, Ash continues,
- 36:36Speaker 1: and he gave me a small locket. It had a
- 36:38Speaker 1: bottle containing some white powder. Max turns to face him,
- 36:43Speaker 1: and Ash says, after that, he said forty two Westwood,
- 36:47Speaker 1: Los Angeles, and died.
- 36:49Speaker 2: That's all I know.
- 36:51Speaker 1: Max is like, why are you telling me this? And
- 36:55Speaker 1: Ash says I don't know, and tears start too well
- 36:59Speaker 1: up in his eyes and then one slides down his
- 37:01Speaker 1: cheek and he says, I really don't know. He looks
- 37:06Speaker 1: just totally devastated. He continues, I wish I could hate you.
- 37:11Speaker 2: I need someone to hate.
- 37:13Speaker 1: And he puts the fork in his pocket and sits
- 37:15Speaker 1: on the bed, looking at the ground. He says, my
- 37:18Speaker 1: brother raised me. Without him, m'd have starved to death.
- 37:22Speaker 1: But when I found him in that dark, filthy hospital,
- 37:25Speaker 1: he couldn't even go to the bathroom by himself. And
- 37:27Speaker 1: Max interjects, so you brought him home. Ash says, yeah,
- 37:34Speaker 1: but that's all over now. I can feel that he's gone,
- 37:38Speaker 1: that he's not here anymore, and Max says, you've had
- 37:41Speaker 1: it rough. Ash looks up and says, I don't need
- 37:44Speaker 1: your sympathy, and he looks away like kind of embarrassed,
- 37:48Speaker 1: like he didn't really expect that he was gonna tell
- 37:50Speaker 1: Max all of that. Max holds a shot of Bourman
- 37:54Speaker 1: out to him and he says, it's nothing like that.
- 37:57Speaker 1: Drink up. Ash takes it and he's like it's so
- 38:00Speaker 1: damn pland and Max is like, just shut up and drink.
- 38:04Speaker 1: And then we go to the title card, the side
- 38:06Speaker 1: of Paradise, and then we go to the ending theme
- 38:09Speaker 1: and that's it. Yeah, we did it, man, I got
- 38:14Speaker 1: through that somehow. Closing thoughts the annoying thing that I mean,
- 38:21Speaker 1: it's not like a flaw in the show so much
- 38:23Speaker 1: as it is just me being angry about characters. Listen,
- 38:28Speaker 1: if you know someone who's loved one has died and
- 38:31Speaker 1: you don't tell them right away because you think it
- 38:34Speaker 1: would be better to wait, or they're on vacation, or
- 38:37Speaker 1: they're on their you know, honeymoon, I don't fucking care,
- 38:40Speaker 1: or they're taking a big test. Well, I mean, you
- 38:42Speaker 1: can wait till the test is over. But like, you
- 38:45Speaker 1: need to tell that person that their loved one has died.
- 38:47Speaker 1: You don't get to just decide that they don't get
- 38:49Speaker 1: to have that news because you're concerned about what's gonna happen. No,
- 38:53Speaker 1: you have to fucking tell them. So that's the moral here.
- 38:56Speaker 1: It's not really, but it's me telling you that it's
- 38:59Speaker 1: the moral tell people if their loved ones died. It's
- 39:02Speaker 1: not good to keep that from someone.
- 39:04Speaker 2: It's a really big deal.
- 39:07Speaker 1: Other than that, we're learning more about banana fish, which
- 39:11Speaker 1: is I guess a person or something and what that
- 39:15Speaker 1: drug does. But honestly, right now, I'm more concerned about
- 39:18Speaker 1: these characters emotional and physical well being than I am
- 39:21Speaker 1: what banana fish is. I'm super concerned for Age, who
- 39:24Speaker 1: has just been threatened again to be sex trafficked. I guess,
- 39:30Speaker 1: first of all, I don't think he told eBay that.
- 39:33Speaker 1: I know eBay was pretty set on them going back
- 39:35Speaker 1: to Japan, but I think that's just because he heard
- 39:38Speaker 1: that the mafia isn't involved, not that Arthur wanted to
- 39:41Speaker 1: sell ag into sexual slavery to Dino. I guess who.
- 39:47Speaker 1: You may have noticed, I didn't say a slur when
- 39:50Speaker 1: he was talking about that, because again, that's not really
- 39:52Speaker 1: in there. I heard hentai, which just kind of means
- 39:55Speaker 1: perverted or pervert, which is not as far of a
- 39:58Speaker 1: jump as the last time. I didn't the slur, So
- 40:00Speaker 1: I'm actually okay with that the manga decided to take
- 40:03Speaker 1: that route as well. I mean, I don't really like
- 40:05Speaker 1: having slurs in my stuff, but this at least made
- 40:09Speaker 1: a little.
- 40:09Speaker 2: Bit more sense.
- 40:10Speaker 1: But anyway, Age should go back to Japan because he's
- 40:14Speaker 1: gonna get himself in even more trouble if he stays.
- 40:17Speaker 1: It's not safe in the US for him. He needs
- 40:22Speaker 1: to go back to Japan, like write the fuck now,
- 40:24Speaker 1: And I get that, like he wants to help, but
- 40:26Speaker 1: I'm gonna go ahead and side with Shunici here and say,
- 40:28Speaker 1: like you need to drag him back to Japan, like
- 40:30Speaker 1: right the fuck now. Other than that, I just want
- 40:33Speaker 1: to point out because I think it's important that the
- 40:36Speaker 1: exchange with Garvy that he had when Garvey was fucking
- 40:39Speaker 1: strangling him. God damnit, he gets strangled a lot, with
- 40:43Speaker 1: Garvey saying that he knows that he's Dino's pet kind
- 40:49Speaker 1: of makes me really really worried. Obviously, this is not
- 40:53Speaker 1: looking good for my I hope maybe he's just kind
- 40:56Speaker 1: of defiant, but Dino is really nice. No, I'm pretty
- 40:59Speaker 1: sure Dino is super terrible dude, and that they have
- 41:03Speaker 1: not had a good relationship in any capacity of the
- 41:07Speaker 1: word good. So I guess we'll probably find more out
- 41:13Speaker 1: about that. But it's looking real bad, guys, and it's
- 41:19Speaker 1: kind of off putting that Garvey knew about that. So
- 41:24Speaker 1: this is not a secret. Whatever's happening is a widely
- 41:28Speaker 1: known thing, at least within this organization. And yeah, that's
- 41:34Speaker 1: a little upsetting. I'm never really sure how much I
- 41:36Speaker 1: should say about this stuff. So we'll just end it
- 41:39Speaker 1: there for this time, and next time we'll discuss more. Yeah,
- 41:44Speaker 1: in episode five, definitely, definitely. And then one last thing
- 41:47Speaker 1: that I wanted to tell you about is that this
- 41:50Speaker 1: kind of jail arc is actually really different than it
- 41:53Speaker 1: is in the manga. And I don't know why this
- 41:55Speaker 1: arc specifically has so many changes, but those kind of
- 42:01Speaker 1: three instances of you know, sexual violence that happened one
- 42:05Speaker 1: of them is kind of anime original because basically the
- 42:09Speaker 1: people involved are not the same. Garvy is a person
- 42:13Speaker 1: named Garvy, but he is not related to the mafia
- 42:15Speaker 1: at all, and he is part of the first gang
- 42:18Speaker 1: rape incident and the second thing in the cell, and
- 42:22Speaker 1: then that's it for him because he's almost probably murdered
- 42:25Speaker 1: by Ash. And then the folks that Dino has sent
- 42:30Speaker 1: are actually not going to rape Ash.
- 42:34Speaker 2: They're just going to.
- 42:36Speaker 1: Beat him up to get information out of him, which is.
- 42:39Speaker 2: Better.
- 42:41Speaker 1: So I don't know why the change at all, but
- 42:44Speaker 1: I think it's interesting and I think it works okay
- 42:47Speaker 1: either way. I'm really partial to the manga because I'm
- 42:50Speaker 1: going to be a manga purist this whole time. So
- 42:53Speaker 1: I think the manga is excellent, but I don't think
- 42:56Speaker 1: that this is bad in the anime by any capacity.
- 43:00Speaker 1: Actually know, there is one thing that I think is
- 43:03Speaker 1: really not good, and that is in that last thing
- 43:06Speaker 1: with Garvey when he licked his lips or you know,
- 43:11Speaker 1: stuck out his tongue or something. It's too cartoony, and
- 43:15Speaker 1: it's like a dead giveaway that that didn't come from
- 43:17Speaker 1: a Chemi Yoshita and that came from the current either
- 43:21Speaker 1: director or key animator or whatever. To me, it just
- 43:24Speaker 1: kind of breaks the direness of the situation a little bit,
- 43:29Speaker 1: So I'm not happy having that in there. And then
- 43:32Speaker 1: also one more thing that I should have said like
- 43:34Speaker 1: immediately and I just forgot about for a second, is
- 43:37Speaker 1: so we basically confirmed that the dang rape in the
- 43:43Speaker 1: last episode was at least partially intentional, like that Ash
- 43:49Speaker 1: specifically didn't fight back so that he could go to
- 43:53Speaker 1: the infirmary. And to of course clarify things a little
- 43:56Speaker 1: bit more because they just totally write it out of
- 43:58Speaker 1: the anime, is that him not fighting back and Garby
- 44:04Speaker 1: spreading rumors about him really helped him when he met
- 44:09Speaker 1: Ag when they were visiting, because him kissing Ag looked
- 44:14Speaker 1: like it wasn't a huge deal because he's obviously gay, right,
- 44:18Speaker 1: So there's a lot of thought and planning that went
- 44:21Speaker 1: into that. And I don't know how I feel about
- 44:25Speaker 1: his mental state that this was the idea honestly. I mean,
- 44:29Speaker 1: it would have been a good plan if Arthur wasn't
- 44:32Speaker 1: paying attention, but he was, but like, yeah, I'm worried.
- 44:37Speaker 1: That's the first place his head went to. So yeah,
- 44:41Speaker 1: definitely says something about him that has been kind of
- 44:44Speaker 1: implied this whole time, that like, there's definitely some traumatic,
- 44:48Speaker 1: messed up shit back there. I mean, we obviously know
- 44:50Speaker 1: that at this point, but yeah, I don't know. It's
- 44:54Speaker 1: both impressive and terrifying. So yes, that is all I
- 45:00Speaker 1: wanted to say about this episode, and again, thank you
- 45:04Speaker 1: for dealing with this. It's harder for me than it
- 45:08Speaker 1: is for you. Maybe I don't know, it might be
- 45:11Speaker 1: as hard or not hard at all. I really like
- 45:14Speaker 1: the show, but talking about it is taking it out
- 45:16Speaker 1: of me. Man. So that's really all I got this time,
- 45:22Speaker 1: And yeah, thank you for sticking around, and I hope
- 45:26Speaker 1: you have a really good whatever later. Weeps.
